A few things we learn about Malleus in Platinum Jacket:

He has had many, many tutors over the years who were brought from all over so he would receive only the finest education. He's a genius however, and whatever they taught him he could do better. He would get angry because he thought they were teaching him basics because they were looking down on him and would throw tantrums so terrible he would accidentally raze his grandma's garden with forest fires. Each and every one of his tutors end up packing their bags and resigning in fear of him. 😭 He'd get severely scolded by Lilia because of this.

Deuce comments that while Hades looks terrifying, his minions look goofy in comparison. Malleus tells him to never judge people based on appearances, as they'd never have been painted if they weren't competent. He also likens these minions to his bodyguards and shares how proud he'd be if they were to be lauded by the world and the succeeding generations in the future. (PROUD BIG BRO MOMENT)

He confirms that Briar Kingdom royalty choose their retainers at a certain age, which we can alreaddy conclude by the way he employed his goofy teenage knights and his mom chose the most radical/problematic generals back then.

He doesn't appreciate the servants in his castle waiting on him hand and foot. It's protocol so he can hardly do anything about it, but he was relieved when he enrolled at Night Raven and had to do everything himself.

Lilia instilled in him from a very young age that a person is nothing if they can't properly take care of themselves. He couldn't do this in the castle though, so he instead reads plenty of books on how to do household chores and whatnot. He's delighted to be able to put this knowledge to practical use at NRC.

He does mundane things like shopping and laundry by himself, until Sebek enrolled and tries to steal all his tasks lol. Although he's visibly disappointed, he lets Sebek do what he wants.

He actually knows how to use the washing machine and dryer but only after so many tries and difficulties.

He once washed his clothes in the kitchen sink and got caught doing it. His dormmates offered to do it instead (because he's their god lmao) but he refused because as he said, he likes to exert his own effort for things.

He is a good art critique and appreciates all kinds of art, though his favorite are sculptures. He likes to see the wears and tears of things over the years. He likes to see proof that things lived their lives (even inanimate things!), and that changes and ageing are beautiful.

He once again repeats that he loves gargoyles.

Though he adores the thought of being happy amongst others, he hates it when people are visibly happy and he isn't.

HELL YEA FOREVER I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are the father and son duo forever to me. I don't know what it is about it but I have NEVER been all that interested in parent & child dynamics in different shows and stuff? Maybe because it tends to fall very quickly into strict tropes that the characters predictably follow without breaking out of them much 🤔 like even with spyxfamily there are long portions of the fanily dynamic specific stuff that I just find myself getting tired and looking away from. I am always just waiting for content on Everyone Having To Hide Their True Identity From Each Other LOL that stuff makes it super fun and enjoyable to follow even with the bits I'm not very into 😌 but with Lilia and Silver omg has anyone ever done it like them???? What is going on. I love them. Has there ever been a teenage son who not only loves their dad So Much but will talk at length, a little obsessively, about how cool he is and all the adventures he has gone on and how proud he is to be his son and So On And So Forth. Like he talks about Lilia SO OFTEN everyone on campus has heard about Silver's cool dad at this point. And Lilia himself is such a weird creature, you cannot throw him into any trope and expect him to behave and follow it in a predictable way. Do I even have to explain myself. Look at him. And I have not even MENTIONED the stuff we're getting into in book 7 like spoilers start now I have ALWAYS thought that Lilia seems weirdly reserved about his affection for Silver compared to how Silver shows his affection and I am VINDICATED that it is being thoroughly addressed. Silver LOVES HIS DAD SO MUCH his heart is full of love and he is STUFFED WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!! Halloween part 2 haunts me forever and the fairy gala if event and all of silver's vignettes and his voice lines and the MELTDOWN he has first realizing that he could one day never see his father again and then realizing that he's the son of his father's enemy and his father must have had such a hard time looking at him the same way he looks back I'm so I'm so Im leave me be leave me to my trenches I cannot handle it silver is so full of love. And yet Lilia has thought for so long thay he is incapable of love. Oh my DAYS. I am waiting with the biggest eyes ever for more unraveling of Lilia's psyche in the next update. Something absurd is always happening between these two, they're so silly 😌 love that Sebek literally has his own parents and they are nice parents and they love each other and they love him and it is a very nice situation to be in but alas. Kalim is so excited to give gifts and food and money and Ruggie is so down to receive gifts and food and money but ALAS Ruggie cannot stand his good boy behavior 😔 the sugar daddy and sugar baby dynamic was inches away LOL I just think they are goofy 😌 I could also see Ruggie taking it into his own hands to make Kalim see the world for what it is & the POTENTIAL for a very tiana & prince naveen dynamic. SO...... Saved this one for last because As You Can See I Am Swinging The Bat At The Wasp Nest. I actually have an absurd amount of ships in twisted wonderland and I think most of the ones I REALLY like are pretty unsavory ones 🙈 I'm selective about the people I talk to about what ships because I get it!!!!!!!!! Some ships are not for everyone and that's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just like it when horrible things happen!!!!! I've seen a lot of hate for it mostly because people see them as siblings and I get that!!!! I enjoy that interpretation as well sometimes!!!!!!!!! But that is not the only way that people can interpret their dynamic and I have also chosen other ways to interpret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure if that aspect alone makes it much worse from how I interpret them actually xbbdjdjndbxbxjekndbx this ship is one that I just could not go up on stand for and say that I do not ship. like he's so PROUD of being lilia's son but it's very clearly spelled out that knowing they weren't blood related at first did truly devastate him- does that carry over into the valley citizens?? do they think lilia is just in his wacky old fae stage and has a weird obsession with making amends and picked up a random human child to serve as the tool for his grief and forgiveness? the war between fae and humans is apparently over but how much of those tensions remain? fae are hundreds of years old, are they able to bury that grudge since we do know that sebek's father lives/works in the valley or is there still an element of judgement and prejudice given by the way that sebek talks about humans? is it because they (silver&lilia) live so far out from any 'city' that silver isn't affected by this mindset?

How do you feel about the Harveston event so far? I always enjoyed seeing the boys being proud of where they came from.

This ask was sent when the event was still running. I saved this for when the event was concluded so that I could give my thoughts, but then two months passed and... well, better late than never, right? xD

Anyway, here are my late more coherent thoughts on the event!

Epel is not a favorite character of mine, so I expected myself to be bored of the event, but actually, it was really endearing. 🥺 Even without knowing the JP, the event felt cozy and homey. It reminded me of Yurucamp. It made me want to curl up in a blanket and get cozy. 

You really do appreciate the event so much more after watching Snow White! One of my private servers watched Snow White before the event because Yana recommended watching the movie for the event, and catching all the references was so fun! From the interior architecture of Epel’s home to the sunrise at the end of the event, there were so many Snow White references littered around. 

Speaking of Snow White references, a TL-er on Twitter pointed out that the part where Sebek saves Epel from an avalanche is the opposite of the time where the Evil Queen got struck by lightning that led to her death. And I find that so beautiful because Sebek represents lightning. In the movie, lightning killed the villain, but in the event, lightning saved the villain. I really love it. It gives me the idea of second chances. 

Please protect Marja. ❤️ She is so cute. We really see where Epel gets his spirit. 

Something I appreciate about Epel is when he mentioned about walking to school for three hours. I personally never had to do that, but I heard stories from a close relative who used to live in the province. She would narrate about how she and her siblings would walk to school and pass by a village to make this Filipino dessert. I felt nostalgic hearing about it. 

About the dwarves, while it sucks to see that they won, I actually liked that they won. I felt that our four students need to be knocked off a bit off their high horses. XD More than winning, I want to see the characters grow and mature. There were a lot of obstacles, but through them, we get to see that they are more than just “villains”. Sebek saving Epel, everyone willing to help rescue Sebek instead of continuing on with the race... they are people at the end of the day who may have selfish intentions but wouldn’t stoop so low to be so cruel. 

I really love the part where Jade and Idia were thinking of ways on how to get the dwarves out of the game while Epel and Sebek were determined to win fair and square. It was hilarious, and I found it even more amusing that without the translation, I could already understand what is happening. 😂 But I’m most enamored about the scene because it’s such an interesting juxtaposition between the younger students and the older ones. It’s like a loss of innocence as one gets older... but that doesn’t mean the older people don’t have to listen to the younger ones. No if anything, they can learn a thing or two. The younger students are bright-eyed teenagers with dreams of making a difference in the world by doing their best or what’s good. The older students seem just a tiny bit more jaded with life that they don’t mind playing dirty if it meant they could get something that they want in life. I’m not sure if I’m even expressing this correctly. 😅

My favorite part of this event has got to be the part where they all played music. Aside from the Snow White references, I really was hooked on the fact that we learned of the instruments the boys know how to play! Like, Epel knows how to play the accordion, and I find that so adorable. 😭 It surprisingly fits him. Then there’s Idia who faked the violin 😔 my inner Ling Ling is not pleased, but it was funny also. Sebek trying and failing to play the violin was so cute. 🥺 It’s such a mood, violin is hard to play, after all. xD But I think the part I’m super enamored with the most is that Jade knows how to play the flute! And here’s where my Octa bias shines through~ because Jade now canonically knows how to play two instruments: the bass and the flute. A string and a woodwind. It made me think how the music curriculum of the Coral Sea is like. 👁 Just how many instruments are they all exposed to? How are they taught? I’m so interested, I really need a Coral Sea event now. 😭

Overall, I really like the event! It’s cozy and homey while still providing all that juicy lore and brain juice that keeps me interested in the story and the worldbuilding. 

What's something you know about Malleus and his issues?

imo, in meta level, it really shows that Yana herself, as an author, is Japanese, an Asian, with his issues mainly about generational role, much like Riddle's helicopter mom issues is a very Asian culture problem.

Like Vil's problem sort of similar to Leona's being the whole "so tired of being second" , Malleus' problem have similar vibe with Riddle, with generational role being the keyword. However, while Riddle is demanded to be "perfect", Malleus is demanded to be "the capable crown prince."

However,their situations are clearly different. Riddle do have Trey and and Che'nya in his life, and as much he cares for them, they couldn't do as much, being fellow kids. Malleus however, he have Lilia raised him, other than the other royal staff and his granma

This, ofc, raised a lot of questions altogether.

How much influence Lilia had in raising Malleus? Sure, he raised him, but like, is Malleus is completely in Lilia's care ? Because as we can see from how Sebek mentioned his family, they still have hand in raising him. Which raises the question, how much doctrine Malleus got from the royal staff and possibly is from his granma? did he ever feel his self esteem is low due to it's not his gran who raised? How much he is groomed solely to fill the throne, and how much he is actually raised for his own psyche?

Considering how the Scalding Sands events is the first time he finally get to travel to other country, and it's also mentioned LIlia fights the senate for it, it's clear that Malleus himself represent the valley and he knows it, that he knows mistakes can be fatal.

For all the very boomer-like traits of Malleus and he also keep noting how young the mortals are , that they are babies for him, note that he is using "boku" pronoun. He is considering himself a young adult, and he is considered still not exactly adult by fey standard. Were he consider himself "mature", he would at least use "watashi" instead. The fact that feys and himself considered him young adult, but mortals consider him ancient. And thus, what it means to "act your age" for him? to act like an old person, or a teenager?

Then there is his more blatant loneliness, attachment to yuu, and naivety to the world outside the valley which I think a lot of people already mentioned.

A trait of his that I hardly see people mentioned is that he's actually really prideful. Like, he reminds you how good he is in magic (or stuff in general really), other than it's part of his identity as "crown prince of the valley" , cause, well, he really proud of how capable he is (proud, guys, not arrogant get your note straight) , but problem is that he does avoid topic he ... actually don't excel at, that he tends to sweep his weakness under the rug.he has amger issues, and then many times he pretend he's not by saying i initially he dislike tech bc he wasnt good at, though he opens up more lately, but it's still there. he alsl has anger issues, often he's upset and openly say he's not. and we know anger issues is also one of maleficent's notable weakness. He also lowkey ask you to mess with Azul for ruining his personal favorite me time zone . Another instance of this is that the character design reveals he still have scales under his bangs, but his bangs are there precisely to hide his scales. Lilia notes he "already raised him since he had eggshells on his face" meaning Malleus originally come into the world hatched from an egg, presumably in dragon form, and learning to transform into human form now, and the scales are reminder how incomplete his transformation is and he doesn't like it.

Furthermore into the "Malleus real form is dragon one" , it means he is spending most of his life in transformed state and even if that doesn't have physical side effect, I don't think that's healthy for his mind. I think he would have identity issues from being "dragon that spends most of his life in humanoid form", but take this with grain of salt..

He is aware of how powerful he is, but as much he wanted people to not fear him he also want to be respected to certain degree (which is why he is attached to yuu, other than plot, but oddly enough despite vil give him that, respect without fear, he is not that attached to vil, even if he do find vil reliable and interesting to certain degree)

I haven't seen anyone do it yet, so ... (Maybe it's already been done, but when in doubt, I'll help). Our dear boys sorted into the houses of Hogwarts!

Dorm leaders:

Riddle: It kind of reminds me of Hermione in her first year. He's reckless and doesn't lack courage (And God knows how much it takes with the duo Adeuce in charge). So for me it will be Gryffindor.

Leona: Slytherin! Do I really need to explain why? This man is so ambitious and cunning! The Sorting Hat would have barely grazed his head when he would have already said "Slytherin!"

Azul: I'm shared with him. For me, he would tend to be a fuzzy hat. He should have chosen between Ravenclaw and Slytherin. He is not lacking in cunning and he is as ambitious as Hell, but above all he shows a great desire for learning and creativity (especially for his contracts). So this time, I'm thinking of sending it to Ravenclaw.

Kalim: It may be surprising, many would see it in Hufflepuff, but for my part, I see it very well in Ravenclaw. Let me explain, although he looks naive, he doesn't quite have it in reality, Kalim can be wise in some ways. And creativity too, not to mention that he still accepts Jamil after his attempt at "Corruption" (I have no other words in mind for that, sorry 😭) and one of the traits of Ravenclaw is the acceptance.

Vil: Hufflepuff. Vil is a relentless worker, he shows enough patience, and his judgment can seem fair enough in his judgment.

Idia: Slytherin. He has a pretty strong self-preservation instinct, though he might think his creatures are pretty ambitious, he's very smart and I'll be honest, the vibe of the Slytherin Common Room suits him pretty well.

Malleus: ... I would have said Slytherin because he has a lot of pride but I find that it does not correspond entirely to him (And if he was in the same House as Leona, we would find the Common Room in a war field every morning, then ..). So I'll say Ravenclaw, his old age has probably given him a lot of wisdom, he learns very quickly and well, he is very, very intelligent and does not lack wit.

The Vice-Leaders:

Trey: Hufflepuff. It totally fits this House and the most important point, the kitchens of Hogwarts! I see him so much baking pastries with the House Elves and then sharing his creatures with his comrades!

Ruggie: Really? Slytherin. He would be the kind of student who played Quidditch and sabotaged the opposing team like it was routine or took points away from his other comrades so he could win the Cup.

Jade: ... You know exactly what I'm going to say, Slytherin. I'm sorry but he gives me way too many of the vibes of Tom Riddle when he was young (handsome) and "innocent". It is as if he has a luminous sign with "Slytherin" writing hanging above his head.

Jamil: Slytherin and I think we'll all agree on that.

Rook: Gryffindor! This guy has a foolproof daring! In addition, I see him totally disobeying the school rules to go to the Forbidden Forest.

Ortho: Our cute creme brulee would totally go to Ravenclaw.

Lilia: Gryffindor, for chivalrous spirit, daring and determination. (And let's not hide it, he gives so much vibes to Weasley Twins or Marauders, I see him making so many jokes to other students and poor teachers)

Our other boys:

Ace: Gryffindor and he makes Riddle want to s 'pull out the hair. Probably did like Seamus Finigan in his first spell class and detonated something or set someone's hair on fire. He's the one who manages to make Gryffindor lose half of the points in not even two weeks and who probably most often scoured the cauldrons or the trophies of the school to such an extent that the dust and the grime never time to settle there.

Deuce: He may not be very patient, but he has a pretty good sense of justice and modesty. Despite his difficulties, he is still a hard worker willing to do anything to make his mother proud of him. And he's very loyal to his friends (even when they're boring). So, Hufflepuff!

Cater: I would be tempted to put it in Gryffindor (Because it has a little side that reminds me of Sirius Black as a teenager). But our dear Cater is cunning and he hides it very well behind his smiles, I put him in Slytherin.

Jack: Jack is for fairness, he is a hard worker who never rests on his efforts, he is fair, loyal, and modest despite what he tries to make people believe. It's perfect for Hufflepuff.

Floyd: He's too reckless for his own good. Would totally accompany Rook in his explorations of the Forbidden Forest and is insanely reckless. He has no instinct for self-preservation. Gryffindor.

Epel: Gryffindor. He's daring if given the chance, he's impulsive and will certainly drop Gryffindor a few points if Vil isn't around to watch him. Could totally help Lilia on occasion with his pranks, it would be a way for him to be a little more himself and to have fun when Vil is not looking.

Sebek: Gryffindor! He is so impulsive, determined and let's not forget, chivalrous in spirit! Not to mention that he is courageous and determined.

Silver: Gryffindor for him too. For the chivalrous spirit and courage.

Curiouser and Curiouser...

Silver...

...is somehow even more lethargic as a child than as a teenager.

Seriously, this boy seems to sleep even more than an infant. According to Lilia, you need to make sure Silver gets 8 hours of sleep, plus two naps, to keep his energy up or else he might fall asleep in his food!

He can’t seem to pay attention to anything! Silver’s always staring off into the distance, his head in the clouds. You need to call him a few times or wave a hand in front of his face to get his attention.

A big fan of playing pretend! Silver spends hours crafting elaborate fantasy realms and making towns out of building blocks.

If he’s feeling particularly energetic, he’ll pick up a stick and wave it around, pretending that it is a sword, and he’s defending his sovereign, Malleus-sama! Sebek has to applaus little Silver for his dedication.

He’s kind of a loner when it comes to playing with other kids his age! Silver sits on the swings by himself, or he’ll fall asleep in the shade of a tree. Wild animals seem to like him, though! They gather around in a circle and nuzzle against him.

Bath times are fun! Silver loves to hide among the bubbles and pretend that he’s in a completely different world.

He loves hearing bed time stories about brave knights going off on grand adventures. It doesn’t take long to knock him out to sleep, but Silver tries his darnedest to stay up as long as he can to hear the ending of happily ever after.

Trey Clover...

...is still pretty mature as a little kid!

He steps in and stops Riddle from getting too upset with Ace and Deuce (mostly Ace)! It’s a bit jarring to see a child scolding Heartslabyul’s dorm leader, but Riddle just can’t say no to his friend’s puppy dog eyes!

Trey’s kind of a doormat around other kids, though! He can’t assert himself well around unfamiliar faces and tends to let them walk all over him annd order him around.

He still wants to help out as much as he can for Unbirthday parties--he’s vice-dorm leader, after all, and it would not do to shirk his work! Because Trey is so small now, you’ll need to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Little Trey offers to help out in the kitchen! You don’t trust him with knives or heat, so you give him simple tasks to do, like crushing cookies in a plastic bag with a rolling pin. He’s so proud to be contributing to the meal~

Trey has an insane sweet tooth. He eats his vegetables too, of course, but he seems to inhale sweets like nobody’s business and always comes back for more.

Brushes his teeth super well (he does it after every meal or snack)~ Trey confides in you that he has always wanted to meet the Tooth Fairy--maybe if he takes extra good care of his baby teeth, she’ll pay him a visit, even if none of his teeth fall out.

Rather than reading him a bedtime story, read him a recipe to help him fall asleep!

Jamil Viper...

...is such a precocious child.

For a little kid, he sure is smart--look, he can sing the alphabet backwards and recite his times table. And if you thought he was ruthless with his burns when he was a teenager, his tongue is even sharper as a kid. Jamil won’t hesitate to call you a doo-doo head or a stupidface if you screw up in front of him.

Pretends to be sultan during play time (Kalim pitches in, playing the role of a servant). At other times, you catch Jamil practicing his swing with a plastic golf club, or Kalim hoisting little Jamil onto the back of a camel or elephant!

He’s quite independent and self-sufficient, often refusing help from others  and insisting he can get tasks done by himself (even it it initially seems impossible). Jamil would rather spend hours finding a stepladder to reach a book than ask someone taller to grab it for him.

He pouts and whines for praise like you wouldn’t believe! Jamil wants your attention to be focused on him, and he’ll tug and pull on your sleeve or shirt until you acknowledge him!

Hates it when you mess up his hair! He spends a long time brushing it in the mornings and washing it in the evenings, even if his braids and ponytail aren’t as pristine as usual. Don’t you dare ruffle his hair and ruin it (looking at you, Kalim)...!

Tries to kick Azul. Several times.

Jamil drifts off to dream land while mumbling about how he wishes he could go back to normal soon, but the smile on his face betrays him--he’s clearly enjoying being doted on.

Lilia Vanrouge...

...is quite the little troublemaker!

It feels like he never properly grew out of his teething phase as an infant. Little Lilia chomps on anything and everything he can nom, from food to furniture to his classmates.

Ignores every single one of your warnings to be careful while he’s playing. Nothing’s stopping Lilia from hanging upside down from a tree or the monkey bars.

His bat buddies still swarm and follow him wherever he goes! Lilia loves to run around in wide open spaces while his bats trail behind him~

He loves playing with his food! Lilia refers to it as “cooking”, but really it is just him mixing up his mashed potatoes, corn, apple slices, chocolate milk, jello, and spaghetti into a messy UFO (unidentifiable food object). His strange food mixtures are still a million times better than anything he would have cooked as an adult.

Another activity that Lilia loves is finger painting! He puts pink, green, and blue paint onto his palms and smears them all over blank sheets of paper to make colorful masterpieces~

Loudly screeches nursery rhymes and songs, much to the chagrin of everyone around him (excluding Cater and Kalim; they’re used to it).

In a weird reversal of roles, it’s suddenly Silver that’s fretting and mother henning over Lilia! He helps you wrestle Lilia into the bathtub and into bed while his old man squirms against his strong arms. Silver bundles Llilia up like a little bat and orders him to go to sleep, which he does after blowing a raspberry at Silver.
