“You smell real good, love" They say while nuzzling their nose in your shoulder and you start to laugh because it tickles so much but they won't stop doing that to make you all giggly”
Being with Jay was nice. It was safe. It was cozy. You felt truly loved. And every night you were reminded of how much you loved him. Sure he’d come home late sometimes but you were always there to accept him into bed with open arms.
And days where he wasn’t working, he would find you at some point throughout the day and shower you with his love and affection.
You were laying in bed, tired from the extra work you had put into your job yesterday, just trying to get your back to rest up a smidge.
Jay was on his side, eyes closed from the nap he’d been taking for a bit, and you sighed, deciding to flip onto your side and maybe catch some sleep too.
As soon as you rolled over, Jay looped his arm around you, pulling you to his chest. His breath tickled your neck as he hummed, “You smell really good baby,” He murmured, rubbing his face into your shoulder.
A laugh left your lips as his breath tickled across your skin. “Stop-“ You managed through a giggle, attempting to cover your neck with your shoulder.
He chuckled softly, nuzzling his face further into your neck, peppering kisses along with them,”Mmm, no,” Jay muttered, too distracted by the beauty of your laugh to stop himself.
“Jayy,” You dragged his name out, moving a hand to the side of his face to push him back, rolling over to face him with a wide smile still on your face. “Enough,” You added, firmly but with no actual malice or annoyance behind your words.
Jay popped his bottom lip out, sending you big green puppy eyes with the pout. Lightly you leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. “That’s for you to promise you won’t tickle me again.”
“I make no promises.”

Tuesday (A Halstead Headcanon)
This imagine wasn’t a request, but I heard the news of the dog that plays Tuesday passing away, so I decided to write a little something about it.
“Aw, shit,” Jay groaned as he walked down the stairs and out of Intelligence.
“What?” asked Hailey.
“Kelly just texted me and told me Tuesday passed away this morning and Y/N loves that dog. What am I supposed to tell her?” he asked as he rubbed his forehead. Tonight was Wednesday, which was always mac n cheese and movie night. And sometimes, when Will could make it, he’d come over. Jay decided on doing this once you hit kindergarten because then it was halfway through the week and would give you something to look forward to. He knew your little brain didn’t comprehend school stress and burnout yet, but he figured it would be good to have in place because, once you hit middle school, you might begin experiencing that school stress and burnout albeit in small doses than in high school or college.
“You can’t keep it a secret from her forever. You’re gonna have to tell her,” Hailey answered.
“I can’t just ignore it?”
Hailey closed her eyes and sighed. She couldn’t believe she was having this conversation with her husband. “No, Jay. You can’t just ignore it. Because one day, she’s gonna want to see Tuesday, and then you’re going to have to explain to her that he died.”
“So, how do I start the conversation?” Jay asked.
“How did you and Will have the conversation with her that your dad died? You do that same thing, but put Tuesday’s name in it.”
“This is not how I wanted to spend my night.”
***
“Can we have cheese popcorn for the movie?” you asked excitedly as Jay helped you buckle into your car seat when he and Hailey picked you up from daycare.
Hailey gave Jay a look. He knew he had to do it now.
He unbuckled your seatbelt. “Y/N, do you want to go on a little walk with me and Hailey really quick? We can go on the trail you like.”
“Yeah!” you exclaimed and quickly jumped out of your car seat. Jay was about to help you out of his truck, but you remembered something. “Wait! Can Teddy come, too?”
Jay smiled despite the conversation he was going to have to have with you in a few minutes. “Teddy can come.”
“Yay!” you cheered and quickly grabbed your stuffed bear from your little purple backpack.
He helped you out of the truck and you quickly ran up to Hailey and held her hand.
“Guess I’m the favorite today,” she joked.
“You always my favorite,” you said, which caused Hailey to smile.
“Hear that, Halstead? I’m her favorite.”
Jay quickly stuck his tongue out at his wife, which did not go unnoticed by you.
“It’s not nice to stick your tongue out, Jay Jay!” you told him sternly and he had to try and hold back his laughter. “You gotta say sorry!”
Hailey cocked an eyebrow at him. “I’m sorry, Hailey,” Jay apologized.
“For what?” you asked. He always said that to you, so why couldn’t you say it to him?
“I’m sorry for sticking my tongue out at you,” Jay finished.
Then, you were happy so the three of you started on your walk to the trail.
***
“So, Y/N, I need to tell you something,” Jay started as the three of you were almost done walking the short trail.
“Okay,” you said and looked up at him with Teddy swinging from your hand.
He crouched down to your height. “So, Tuesday–”
“The firefighter doggie?” you asked excitedly. Maybe you’d get to see her today!
“Yeah, the firefighter doggie,” he confirmed. “So, you know how Mommy and Daddy are up in heaven.” You nodded. “Well, animals have to go to heaven too when they get old or something is wrong with them. And, Y/N, Tuesday went to heaven today.”
For a minute you just stood there, your little brain trying to process what he said. “So- So I can’t see Mommy and Daddy because- because they in heaven, so I can’t see Tuesday anymore?” you asked as your lip started to tremble.
Jay nodded. “Tuesday’s with Mommy and Daddy.”
Then, you crashed into Jay’s arms and just started bawling. You loved Tuesday!
“It’s okay. It’s okay, kiddo. She’s in a better place with lots of toys and treats.”
You shook your head. “No!”
He rubbed your back as you continued to cry.
***
On your way home, you passed a pet store and you had an idea.
“Jay Jay?” you asked.
“Yeah, kiddo?” he asked.
“You know how I- how I gave Daddy a pic-ure so he could have it in heaven?”
“Uh-huh,” Jay answered.
“Can we give- Can we give Tuesday a toy to bring to heaven? Then Mommy and Daddy can play with her.”
Hailey put her hand over her mouth. Your little heart was so good. She looked over at Jay and gave him a nod.
“Yeah, I think we can do that.”
So, he turned around and the three of you went to the pet store.
***
While in the store, Jay had texted Ritter and asked if it would be a good time to stop by and whether or not he had buried Tuesday yet.
He said he was still at the firehouse and planned to bury her tomorrow. He said it would be a good time to stop by, though.
So, the three of you made your way to the firehouse.
Once you got there, you walked in holding a blue bone-shaped chew toy that squeaked and also had a white ribbon wrapped around it and tied in a bow.
“Hey, mini-Halstead, what can we do for you?” Kelly asked and crouched down to your height.
You just hugged Jay’s leg.
“We have something to give Ritter to give to Tuesday,” Jay answered.
“So she can have a toy in heaven,” you explained and held out the toy.
“Oh, wow! I think she’d love that! I think Ritter’s in the common room.”
“Thanks, Kelly,” Jay said.
The three of you walked into the common room and you found Ritter sitting at the table with Gallo and Violet.
“Hey, Darren,” Hailey greeted. “How you holding up?”
“As good as I can,” he answered. Then he saw you and jumped out of his seat. “Hey! How’s my favorite girl?”
“Rude,” Violet said. “I thought I was your favorite.”
“You don’t hold a candle to Y/N. Sorry, Vi,” Ritter apologized. Then, he saw your hands. “Y/N, Tuesday–”
“She knows,” Jay interrupted. “You wanna tell him why you have the toy, kiddo?” Jay asked.
“I thought- I thought Tuesday would want a toy to play with in heaven. Then she can play with it with my Mommy and Daddy,” you said.
Ritter smiled and took the toy from you. “Thank you. I’ll make sure it will get to him. He’ll love it.” Then he paused. “Wait a minute. I’ll be right back.”
Then he ran off, leaving you, Hailey, and Jay confused.
When he came back, he was holding one of Tuesday’s collars. He always kept a spare one at the firehouse in case her normal one broke. “I think Tuesday would want you to have this,” he explained as he crouched down to your height and handed you the collar. “And I know that she’ll love the toy. You’re so thoughtful, Y/N.”
You blushed and hid your face in Jay’s leg.
“What do you say, Y/N?” Jay asked.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Then, you had another thought. Jay always said that you couldn’t have a dog because you had Tuesday. “Can we get a doggie now, Jay Jay?”
Jay laughed. “We’ll see. But, say bye-bye to Ritter, okay? It’s almost time for dinner.”
You gave him a hug and then left the firehouse. That night at home, Jay nailed Tuesday’s collar to your bedroom wall so that you would never forget her.

My aim is so true... (the Med AU, includes characters from The Gypsy Warriors, Black Sheep Squadron and Chicago Fire and PD, as well as original characters)
Please do ramble about this gigantic monster idea! That's a crossover of epic proportions!
Imps have been waiting for this moment. They have. One day I will kick my executive dysfunction in the butt and will answer the asks when I get them. Maybe I am on a good path of doing that.
Thank you for this ask, you do know how to always get me rambling about stories that are dear to me.
I hope all of you bear with me, because I am about to launch on a big ramble about this project that it's so dear to me and will have so many layers and so many of my favorite people.
The story behind this AU that is dubbed the Med AU ever since its conception, is the fact that the show kept beating down on Will with zero respite or him learning something from all those experiences. Then you and I had a talk about a potential AU and the rest is history.
There was a point during the initial brainstorming for this fic where we added Teddy and Shelly (The Gypsy Warriors). Teddy as a Fire Inspector and Shelly as a doctor and Will's best friend. That boy needs people to stick with him and be in his corner so I gave him Shelly. It is fun exploring this dynamic and I wish to write more of it in the future.
Then along came Rory, the Halstead youngest. Once again, she became part of the story in a capacity of the youngest sibling able to keep both Jay and Will in check, but at the same time she would be your worst nightmare if you hurt them in any way. She is fierce and protective and tiny and she is Teddy's partner in the fire investigation unit.
The next question the imps had was about seasons and events that will happen in them. We decided to keep the show format of seasons and the chapters being the episode. There will be a huge flip up of what happened in s4 vs s2 in canon, and each season will have a challenge the boys will have to face. I am proud of the storylines being more or less plotted out. Now I can only add to them and it will be amazing once I write everything.
Last but not least, I added Jim and Greg to the mix (Black Sheep Squadron). Greg is the adoptive Halstead sibling and Jim is Shelly's cousin. They were both POWs while still in the service. They are a couple. I love them so much.
This story will be so good when most of the big parts are written.
I reached 50k words on it awhile back and that made me extremely happy.

First of all, I’m glad it made you smile because the joy and comfort your writing has brought me on numerous occasions is absolutely UNMATCHED so you deserve a little bit of that joy and love in return (especially when the internet is as much of a cesspool as it can be sometimes 🙃). Your writing has completely changed the trajectory of my day or week on multiple occasions and I wish I could thank you in some way other than screaming in your ask box about asshole Jay and what my currently weekly schedule is 😂
That being said, I am definitely going to take you up on screaming at you some more because I’m not just invested… I’m ✨too✨ invested 😂
You’ve somehow managed to take all of my favourite tropes in writing and combine them into this incredible fic and I can’t handle it 90% of the time because the spiral is real!! Everything about that conversation at dinner absolutely sent me and I cannot wait for more Jay/Adam/Kevin conversations surrounding Hailey. Jay being an absolute douche canoe but knowing that underneath all of his hurt is the worlds largest teddy bear who just wants a hug (couldn’t help myself 😂) makes me lose my shit thinking about where you are going to take these characters. Protective older brother Adam is absolutely everything and Hailey telling him to step back because she is a grown ass woman was… uuuuugggggghhhhhh. The spiral is R E A L, Morgan, it’s real 😂
I can’t wait to see what happens with Hailey and mama Halstead because I just know you’ve included her with all of the chaos up your sleeve and I’m definitely not ready for it but I’m also so ready for it.
I’m also obsessed with all of the ways you’ve written Hailey challenging Jay and giving it right back to him, often better than she gets it. This new arrangement they’ve entered into is going to kill me. And then I’m going to come back from the dead to read the next chapter, and it’s going to kill my ghost. Even though Hailey ultimately initiated their fun time at wedding, and Jay made her admit that she wanted him (dead. I’m dead again just thinking about it), I CANNOT wait for Hailey to jump him out of the blue because of their new arrangement. Whether it’s at his office or the club or his place or wherever it ends up happening, I am ready for her to seek out Jay and initiate it completely and his response to that will kill me.
Hope you don’t regret inviting me to yell some more 😂 I reread the entire fic today and I’m spiralling and now you’ve gotten paragraphs of my word vomit thrown at you 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ the overarching gist is that I’m losing my shit over your story and I’m super grateful you are continuing to write and share 💕
Wow. You truly are invested and I was stunned for a moment when I saw this message, and then I teared up as I started reading.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I shall continue this below the cut so I don’t annoy anyone with our musings my friend. 😅
I’m always here for yelling and for chaos of any kind. I don’t know why, but I truly thrive in the chaos. It really is my brand and I don’t think that will ever change. 😅😂
The dinner scene in the last chapter was so much fun to write!! I had this very vivid picture in my head of it playing out and all of them sitting around the table and the scene unfolded just I had hoped. I’m so, so glad you enjoyed it!!
There will definitely be more scenes and conversations involving those three!
Describing Jay as a teddy bear who just wants a hug made me giggle. You’re not exactly wrong there, but it might take a little while before he gets his hug. That guy has got some walls up for sure that need a wrecking ball to be knocked down.
Hailey is a queen. I don’t know what else to say about her. She’s just wonderful and I love her. We always love a good spiral. 😉
Mama Halstead. I love her. I LOVE HER. I will forever be bitter about the fact that we didn’t get to meet her so I had to include her somehow, some way, if not for my own sanity and headcanons. I have absolutely included her for reasons which will be shown soon. Or soonish?
Hailey challenging Jay and throwing it all right back at him is some of the most fun I’ve written in fic. She’s just so sassy and stubborn, and she takes no shit. Not very different at all to how she is on the show honestly, but it still somehow feels a little different. If that makes sense.
Oh it is for sure Hailey’s turn to seek him out. Better be careful what you wish for friend. 😉
I never regret yelling about fic or Upstead or both. Those idiots have the tightest hold on me and I fear they ain’t ever letting go.
Your messages have made my night, my week, my everything. The response to this story has been so incredibly mind blowing and I cannot thank you enough for reading it and loving it and caring about anything my brain comes up with. Seriously. Thank you. 💜💜

Jay Halstead x Halstead!Reader, Will Halstead x Halstead!Reader.
Warnings: Near death experience.
Summary: After falling out of a window on a job, Will and Jay’s sister Y/N ends up being rushed into hospital. When they realise how bad her injuries may be, they realise they need to lean on each other for support.
(GIF’s not mine)
Tumblr media
Will’s POV
“Will! It’s Y/N!” Natalie shouts as a stretcher gets rolled in with my little sister laying unconscious on it.
“What happened?” I ask Kelly as he runs in with the paramedics who were bringing her in.
“She fell from the second floor window.” He tells me, eyes still fixed on Y/N.
“I have to ring Jay.” The realisation hits me that the young lady lying in front of me wasn’t just any patient. It was my little sister. The glue that holds the family together. Jay needed to know. He needed to be here.
“I’ll get started.” Natalie tells me and I nod.
“Hey, Will. Can this wait?” Jay answers the phone.
“Jay.” I breathe out as his cheery voice hits my ears.
“Woah. What’s wrong?” He asks suddenly sounding serious.
“Can you come to the hospital?” I ask.
“I mean I’m a bit busy. I’m at work and we’ve just.” He begins.
“Y/N’s hurt. It’s really bad.” I cut him off.
“What?” I hear as his breath gets caught in his throat.
“Just get her as soon as you can. Please.” I beg.
“I’ll be right there.” He hangs up.
“How is she?” I ask as Natalie rushes out of Y/N’s room.
“It’s not looking good.” She frowns.
~
“Where is she?” Jay rushes through the doors towards the desk.
“Jay, wait.” Natalie tells him.
“Where is she?” He repeats before spotting her through the glass.
“Jay!” I manage to intercept him before he gets through the open door but he pushes me out the way as the tears spill from his eyes.
“Y/N.” His face drops when he sees her there unconscious.
“We had to put her in a medically induced coma.” I finally manage to tell him.
“She’s going to pull through though.” He turns to me.
“She’s got a good chance if we keep her in this coma for a little bit longer.” I nod.
“You should go home and get some rest.” Natalie walks in the room looking between Jay and I.
“Is Y/N waking up and coming home?” Jay asks.
“Well no it’s..” She begins.
“Looks like I’m staying then.” He shakes his head.
“Okay.” She nods and smiles sympathetically at us both before leaving.
“How long will she be like this?” He looks up to me.
“We don’t know yet.” I shake my head.
“Will she be the same when she wakes up?” He asks.
“We won’t know if there’s any brain damage until she wakes up.” I tell him.
“How can you just shut off your emotions? You sound like you don’t even care. Like she’s just another random patient and not our little sister!” He snaps slightly.
“I do care, but someone has to be the calm and stable one around here and it certainly isn’t going to be you.” I shake my head.
~
“Jay, Will.” I recognise the voice that wakes us both up.
“Y/N!” Jay shouts and hugs her tight.
“Ow.” She groans.
“Sorry.” He pulls back.
“It’s okay.” She pushes a weak smile on her face.
“How are you feeling?” I ask.
“Tired.” She tells us.
“Tired? You’ve been asleep for a week.” Jay laughs slightly.
“A what?” She asks shocked.
“Do you remember what happened?” I ask.
“No.” She shakes her head before clutching onto it.
“You’ve been in an induced coma. We tried bringing you out of it last night and you’ve only just came around.” I tell her.
“Have I missed much?” She asks.
“Just when Kelly brought you these.” Jay points to the flowers and teddy next to her bed.
“That was kind of him.” She smiles.
“Natalie asked me to give you this when you woke up.” I tell her as I hand her a card.
“Is that all?” She laughs.
“You also missed Will marrying a potted plant.” Jay laughs.
“What?” She looks between us, confused.
“In my defence, I was very tired and I began to hallucinate and for the record I didn’t marry it. I just got down on one knee and asked it to be my wife.” I shake my head.
“Wow.” She laughs.
“I’m so glad you’re okay.” Jay grabs her hand.
“Me too.” I nod grabbing her other hand.
“I love you guys.” She tears up.
“I love you.” Jay and I smile at her at the same time.
“Halstead hug.” She smiles bright wrapping an arm around each of us. I wrap one arm around her and one around Jay and within a second I feel him do the same.

Coming ‘Round
Well that premiere was amazing! Anyone else cry whenever Jay was emotional?! It was so heartbreakingly beautiful, so I just had to write a post-episode one shot!
The song of when Jay walks around the empty apartment really struck me (Coming ‘Round by Rupert Pope and John Robertson) and that’s what this fic is based on.
I can feel it coming 'round again Messin' with my head Starting up again Feels like something's spinning 'round again Sinking in with me I love you 'cause it's coming 'round
Let's take the time, and rewind Start it over
Maybe if he could start it over again, he would make different choices.
Different choices like not going into the Rangers. Where he was forced to come back less innocent every time because his mind was forced into a state of trepidation. His mind, which never let him rest because it was plagued with images of that God forsaken desert; the heat, the sand, and all those deaths. The desert, where he made mistakes that would forever be etched into his memory. His mistakes, making him think that maybe going to college and medical school like his brother would’ve saved him from all that pain. But he made the mistake of making the wrong choice, and all he can wish for is starting over again.
Different choices like not signing up with the Chicago Police Department. Where he was forced to rip families apart due to suspected domestic abuse. Where he was forced to act out on split second decisions, and sometimes, making the wrong one. Like when he accidently shot a little girl. A little girl who had the potential to make it out of that neighbourhood and make a better life for herself. A little girl who missed the chance of having children of her own one day. A little girl who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. A little girl who died from a bullet from his gun. She was just a little girl. He can only wish that he could start all over again.
Different choices like not meeting her, even though she was the best thing that ever happened to him. Then maybe Abby showing up wouldn’t have made him lose his best friend. Then maybe he wouldn’t be wallowing in darkness that followed him around, feeling like he was swallowed whole and couldn’t find the light. And maybe, everything would’ve been a little bit better. But he made a different mistake; he walked away from her, and didn’t get the chance to make it right, and he wishes he could start all over again.
His vision was completely blurred by the time he made it back to his Jeep. He tried to keep his sniffling and cries inaudible, a mother was grieving the loss of her child; the loss he was at fault for. He was surprised when his hand didn’t shake as he extended Morgan’s necklace to her mother; the same one he had to beg his brother to retrieve for him. He decided that the least he could do was give a mother some piece of her child, even if it was just an accessory she wore. His talk with Upton after the press release didn’t help him feel any better, but it was the catalyst as to why he was parking his car outside near the assortment of flowers, pictures and teddy bears. His eyes surveyed over all the kind words before he bent down and gently left a lily in the middle. A white lily that symbolized Morgan's innocence.
Innocence he didn’t mean to take away.
His legs shook as he made his way to the doorstep, and he surprised himself when he had the courage to knock on the door. He wasn’t ready to speak when he looked up at Morgan’s mother and he knew his eyes were bloodshot from the burning sensation, but he wasn’t going to let himself break in front of her. He could hold it in for a few more seconds because one thing Jay Halstead didn’t do was break in front of people.
At least, he didn’t used to.
When he made it back home later, he drowned his sorrows like he always did. The new apartment was different. It didn’t have the brown, maple wood shelves on the sides of where the TV would go and it neither had the floor to ceiling windows. It didn’t have the couch or bed where many happy memories were made and it didn’t have the smell that was uniquely her. He welcomed the burning sensation down his throat, the one that messed with his head. But he knew even tonight, all the alcohol he could ingest wouldn’t take away his pain. This was pain he would always remember; pain he would have to suffer through until his last breath. Pain of making the mistake of shooting his weapon, even if it may have saved his life. Pain that was all too similar to when he killed, no murdered, innocents in Afghanistan so he could get back home. Pain that would never go away; pain that could only be numbed. Numbed by the sound of her voice.
So he called her.
He was forced to leave another voicemail when she didn’t pick up. Although not completely drunk, he knew he shouldn’t drive. It wasn’t worth it to wrap his Jeep around a tree or worse, head on into another vehicle. Head on, where he would not only take his own life, but the lives of those who had a family. A family that cared about them. And he would just be another Chicago police officer blamed for the wrongful death of others.
The picture stayed in his new apartment, he wanted to find a frame for it. He vividly remembered when that photo was taken. It felt like a lifetime ago. Everything seemed so perfect and happy, until she spiralled. But then the stars seemed to align in his favour, he got to move in with the girl of his dreams, only to have his entire world crash down on him.
As he made it back to their old bedroom, he leaned against the wall, allowing the weight of the day take over. His eyes glazed over the dusty floors and the couple of boxes left on the floor. Eventually his knees gave out under him and he slid down the wall, completely spent and hurt. The tears flowed freely, something he didn’t allow himself to do all day. Not when he found out his bullet was a match, not when that little girl died after Will said she would make it, not when he stood face-to-face with the mother of the innocent child he took away.
And maybe if he could start it over again, take the time and rewind, this all wouldn’t hurt so much.
It's the same mistake that I loved to make On a different day, but it still feels grey I don't wanna talk about it I don't wanna make more plans I just wanna start it over, again

hurry home, partner. [part 7]
 - Surprise, my loves! I will admit my inspiration for writing hasn’t been what it used to be for obvious reasons but today during a really long shift at work I was hit with what I needed to write this next piece. So here’s the next installment and I hope this helps heal all hearts a little bit and thank you from the bottom of my own heart for enjoying what I write and for being a part of this fandom in the first place because you all are absolutely wonderful. <3 Please enjoy.
“I - thank you all so much,” Erin whispered, her throat scratchy with tears and her heart full of appreciation because here, right here surrounded by every single member of the team she had come to call family she knew without a shadow of a doubt that this baby girl was going to be loved. Loved, appreciated, cherished. Everything that she hadn't been growing up in that abusive and dark and dirty home and for that Erin couldn't be more grateful because Anabel would always have someone to turn to and would always have someone to tell her that they loved her when she needed it most.
It was dark, the dim glow from the lamps perched on the corners of everyone’s desks the only source of light in the room because it was well past the time everyone normally clocked out and well past the time everyone usually settled down on a bar stool at Molly’s and tried to erase the horrors of the day with a few bottles but tonight was special, and tonight was different because there was a pile of unwrapped baby gifts near Hank’s office door, and there was a pink and white frosted cake on Jay’s desk with the word ‘congratulations’ scrawled in an intricate cursive of pastel frosting and there was the constant, unwavering grin turning up the corners of Jay’s mouth as he tried really, really hard not to keep kissing the future mother of his child in a pure, overwhelming sense of bliss because his boss and her father figure kept edging closer and though in the middle of the sergeant’s speech his eyes had welled with tears at the mention of his future granddaughter and the reality of the only daughter he had ever known becoming a mother, Jay was all too aware of the fact the man had a mean right-hook.
Burgess raised her glass of good wine they'd all splurged on for the occasion in a toast next, and Ruzek followed suit and Erin was able to wrap her head around the fact that they had been side by side all night, and he'd edged closer to her amidst the flurry of wrapping paper and now his fingers brushed against his ex-fiance’s elbow every so often when he thought no one was looking. And yeah sure, maybe it was the happy buzz of activity in the bullpen or maybe it simply was the affects of the alcohol but nonetheless she was delighted to see the two of them getting along and not keep an arm’s length from each other as they'd tried to do since Adam had returned from his undercover assignment and Erin made a mental note to set up a double date when she was able to safely handle her booze again and could make it past the hour of nine o’clock without dozing off into contented snores.
The team erupted into a pleasant chatter and she finally relaxed because the attention was off of her and the focus wasn't entirely on her huge bulge of a belly and her tiny, delicate baby girl who was kicking and squirming and who apparently had her father’s liking for chocolate milkshakes because she was slurping away on her third of the night and trying and failing not to feel guilty or gross about the fact but she caught his familiar blue eyes from across the room while he was finishing up with Olinsky, and then he was at her side and snaking an arm around her waist and taking his own taste of the sweet treat and she couldn't help but giggle and feel a little less like a beached whale given his attention. “This is the third one I’ve had, and it's all your fault. She’s got a sweet tooth,” Erin murmured and she watched his eyes light up with wonder and love and adoration and she stood on her tiptoes to brush her lips against his cheek because damn, Jay Halstead kept getting better looking and more irresistible if that was even possible and she was going to absolutely maul him the second she could do more than waddle around their apartment with her hopelessly swollen ankles or lay in a heap of exhaustion amongst her pillows at night, fidgeting to try and get comfortable because she used to fall asleep on her belly and she was still trying to adjust her habits all courtesy of keeping Anabel comfortable and content.
“At least she’s got a sweet something,” he whispered in her ear, his warm breath drifting deliciously over her earlobe and she fiercely gnawed on her bottom lip to keep her impulses in check because they were, after all a mere few paces from Voight. “She's gonna get your stubborn streak and fiery personality so I’ll gladly take all the sweet I can get,” he teased with his signature smirk and she rolled her eyes good-naturedly because they both knew Erin Lindsay was all kinds of sweet when it came to Jay Halstead.
She was sweet in the way she always saved him the corner sliced of pizza whenever they ordered out because she knew it was his favorite what with the extra bit of crust and few extra slices of pepperoni.
She was sweet in the way she’d recently let him take over driving duties and even sweeter still because she'd promised that even after the baby was born he’d get to keep that prized position even after she was back as his partner and out on the streets again because she’d decided she throughly enjoyed admiring the way he looked behind the steering wheel.
She was sweet in the way she would trace gentle circles over his bare chest in the darkness of their bedroom, her hazel hues never leaving his blue ones because she still couldn't quite believe he’d chosen her and she still couldn't quite believe they were starting their own family.
But most importantly, she was sweet in the way she sat every night in the nursery he had built with his own bare hands because he loved his girls more than life itself, rocking ever so gently in the rocking chair and humming sweet nothings to their daughter still growing inside of her, halting the tune only to whisper about her father; how he would always be her fierce protector, how mommy and daddy would both love her beyond any sort of measure, how with only a bat of her eyelashes she would be able to get him to do absolutely anything she wanted and standing there, in the shadows of the door frame so he wouldn't be spotted, Jay couldn't muster up an ounce of disagreement because Erin was without a shadow of a doubt right.
“Halstead. Lindsay.”
Voight’s gruff tone brought them both back to the bullpen and they widened the gap between their bodies and even though he'd given his blessings and even though they were here celebrating the baby they’d both created, Erin knew it was a respect thing to Jay when it came to interacting in front of him, and especially here in the work place, and she loved him even more for it. She watched him give a nod and a quick wink, turning straight into Ruzek’s rowdy hoots and hollers and claps on the back in congratulations and it took her a moment to remember that Hank was still there, quiet and brooding as ever but his eyes were soft and warm and welcoming and she remembered that stormy night he’d brought her home when she was a mere fifteen years old; how terrified and utterly distraught she’d been because she was damn certain she'd find a way to fuck this chance up, that she'd find a way to earn this kind man’s disappointment and disgust, but he’d grabbed her tiny, freezing hand in his bigger one and led her to Camille and to Justin and to the warmth of their living room and all the rest was history. He'd given her a family and now she was creating her own and so she couldn't stop the tears as Hank pulled her into his arms, shushing her and rocking softly back and forth to calm her down as he'd always known how to do.
“Hey, kid. Happy thoughts tonight, alright?” He pulled back, keeping his hands on her shoulders and she blubbered out a ‘yeah, yeah’ before he pulled her back for another squeeze, letting out a throaty chuckle. “I have something for you.”
Erin maneuvered away from him then, a soft hint of a frown furrowing her features because he’d already given what had to be a lifetime’s supply of diapers that she’d unwrapped, but he pulled a worn teddy bear from behind his back with a tiny pink bow wrapped around its neck and her eyes welled with tears for the hundredth time that night because she knew exactly where it had come from. Camille had bought him for Justin before her son was even born, and Erin had always been jealous of the fact he'd come into this world with a mother that cared enough about him to buy him nice things but she’d thought she'd hidden her ill feelings well from all those years ago because at least she now had warm meals to ease the painful stabs of hunger in her stomach and at least she now had a pillow to lay her head on at night. She should've known Camille would've picked up on what she really felt.
“She kept on me to save it, and even after she was gone it took me years to figure out why. And when Justin passed, it only seemed right to- well, I hope Anabel appreciates it just as much.” Erin gently took the bear from his hands and Hank kissed her cheek and gave her fingers one last squeeze before venturing over to Olinsky because he'd never been one for mushy except when it came to his grandchildren and Erin had a feeling there was going to be plenty more gifts where that came from.
“Last one, promise.” Jay was back at her side and she had to grin because he was wearing her favorite grey henley and a dark pair of jeans and his blue eyes were radiant the closer in proximity he got but she was momentarily distracted from his piercing orbs by the jangling in his hands. And then he pressed what felt like cold metal into the palm of her hand and her lips turned up into an even bigger smile despite the tears that began to drip down her cheeks. Jay wiped them away with the pads of his thumbs, letting his lips linger over hers for a brief moment before pulling away, his blue eyes twinkling.
“Dog tags,” she whispered. ‘Anabel Camille Halstead’ was printed on one side, with Jay’s fingerprint on the other. The quote ‘Home is always with you’ was scratched into another tag, with Erin’s fingerprint on the opposite side. Both were connected together by a thin chain.
“Next is an engagement ring. Don't think I’ve forgotten about your present,” he murmured, and she pulled him close and breathed in his delicious scent and she tried not to grumble as Will yanked his little brother away from her but she was soon comforted by Owen’s sweet greeting of a smile and Natalie’s welcoming embrace and Erin was certain she'd never been this overjoyed in her entire life. This was family. This was home.

Finally - Chapter 6: Father’s Day
aka: 9 times Jay tries to win Voight over (intentionally and not so intentionally) and the 1 time he doesn’t need to.
Also on ff.net and AO3.
Many, many thanks to @justkillingtimewhileiwait for all of her help, listening to me bounce ideas off her, ramble on about what I wanted to write and mostly, the beta-ing. You are awesome! :)
Jay held his phone between his shoulder and ear as he opened the front door of their apartment, having returned home from his late morning run. He had spent the previous night out at Molly’s with his brother and the rest of the usual suspects, getting home early that morning and waking up with the remains of a hangover. Erin was spending the weekend in New York, accompanying her brother with tying some loose ends so he could make his final, clean break and start afresh in Chicago. Jay had volunteered to tag along, but she had pointed out there was a chance she might not be back until mid-week and Voight wouldn’t let them both go when Olinsky was already on leave for a couple of weeks.
So here he was, filling her in with some of the gossip he had picked up the previous night before asking her how New York was treating her.
“Actually, I do need a favour, if you don’t mind,” she said after informing him that, as much as she loved New York, Chicago was definitely the city for her.
“What kind of favour?” he asked, kicking off his shoes and making his way over to grab some water from the fridge.
“One I’m sure you can twist into winning Hank over,” Erin replied, but it was more her goading voice which claimed his attention rather than the meaning of her words.
“Continue,” Jay prompted, intrigued.
“Well, you know how it’s Father’s Day today?” Her soft, saccharine tone told him that he wasn’t going to want to hear the rest of it, but she hurriedly carried on before he could get a word in edgeways. “I’m not making it home until tomorrow the earliest so please could you go drop off my present with Hank?”
Groaning, Jay threw himself onto one of the kitchen stools and leaned back onto the counter. “Erin-”
“Please, Jay? You know how long I spent searching for the perfect present and it’s right there in the drawer. Please? Pretty please? I even wrote the card and everything. You literally need to turn up and give it to him,” she explained, making it all sound far simpler than he knew it would be. However, her words rang true; he did know exactly how long it had taken her to find Voight the perfect gift, especially as this was the first since Justin had died. It was enough to make him concede, for both Erin and for Voight, wondering if the other man would prefer having some company that day or at least the knowledge that his pseudo-daughter was thinking of him. But then she carried on, breaking him out of his thoughts and adding more incentive to the chore. “I’ll make it worth your while.”
“Will you now? From New York?” he asked amusedly.
“When I’m back, obviously. But if you really want to know how, there’s a box in the closet, under my jeans. You can sneak a peek…” she told him suggestively, trailing off after leaving him enough to start conjuring up the scenarios in his mind about what she could mean.
Jay cleared his throat, blinking a few times to rid himself of the images and trying to focus on the conversation at hand. “Oh, I will definitely be doing that. That’s a thing that’s happening. For sure,” he assured her, already getting to his feet and making his way towards the bedroom.
“I figured,” Erin laughed, deep and truly, making him smile at the sound of it. “So?” she finally prompted.
“Yeah, I’ll go drop it off, don’t worry,” he told her, eyeing the drawer where he knew she kept the present before pulling open the door to her side of the closet.
“You are the best, you know that? The best,” she said emphatically, a grin clearly lacing her words.
“Flattery will get you everywhere, Lindsay,” Jay remarked smarmily, crouching down to dig out the box she had been talking about, a smirk forming on his face as he caught sight of red lace.
“Oh, I know,” Erin said lightly, though Jay caught the sounds of other voices around her. “I’ve got to go, babe. Teddy’s getting impatient.”
“Must run in the family,” he retorted, earning himself a sarcastic laugh. Putting everything back where he found it, he got back to his feet. “Call me later, fill me in with what’s going on?”
He could hear her moving as she spoke, the sounds of the city blurring between her words. “I will do. Thanks again, Jay. I love you.”
“Love you, too.”
“What are you doing here?” Voight greeted him the moment the door opened, not that Jay was expecting anything warmer.
“I’m here to drop this off,” he informed him, holding up the gift covered in plain blue wrapping paper with the greeting card taped to the top. Erin had clearly been prepared, something Jay put down to her excitement at finding something she deemed perfect. “As weird as it is to say this, happy Father’s Day.”
Voight narrowed his eyes at him before stepping back to let him in, taking the present from his hands when Jay held it towards him as he entered. “Then why are you saying it?”
“It’s from Erin. She was upset she couldn’t be here to give it to you in person and asked me to. She spent ages trying to get you the perfect gift, and then we came across this. Thought you’d love it,” Jay explained, entering the living room when Voight ushered him out of the hallway, watching as the other man inspected the gift before placing it onto the arm of the couch.
“Right,” he replied evasively.
“Aren’t you going to open it?” Jay asked as Voight simply stood there, showing no sign in picking up the gift again anytime soon.
Voight shrugged half-heartedly. “Why? You already know what’s in there.”
“So I can tell Erin you liked it.”
“I can tell her myself, Halstead,” he stated gruffly, staring him down until Jay rolled his eyes and nodded. “Why aren’t you spending the day with your own father?”
Laughing dryly, Jay shook his head and turned away, eyes roaming over the line of photos that decorated the Voight front room. “Probably ‘cause I haven’t spoken to him in about, oh, let’s see… 5 years now? I don’t think dropping by would be really welcomed. Not that I’d want to, anyway,” he shot over his shoulder with a self-depreciating smile. “Besides, I’m sure Will is with him so I have no doubt he’s happy.”
A silence fell between them, and Jay wasn’t sure whether to take that as a sign to leave or if Voight was simply digesting what he had told him. Either way, he took a moment to skim over the home photos, each one clearly from a different day or occasion. Sure, he had been around to the Voight house more than a few times before, but it had always been with Erin and it had always been for dinner. He had noticed the pictures but had never taken the time to study them. As he looked closer, he had a feeling Erin had purposely ensured he had never gotten the chance to. There were enough of her up there to put a timeline together.
“The last photo of Erin before Camille lost her patience and set her straight about her clothing,” Voight pointed out about the photo Jay had no idea he was lingering on. “After that, it was dresses, school uniform or brand new clothes which she deemed socially acceptable.”
“I bet Erin was happy about that,” Jay laughed, knowing that despite the changes she had made in her life since she was a teenager, there were still so many parts of her that hadn’t changed; attitude included.
“I’d never heard so many arguments about clothes in my life. But, in light of everything else, it was the least of our worries,” Voight explained, reminiscing in amusement and taking a seat.
Jay picked up the photo, taking a slightly closer look as something caught his eye. Or rather, a shiny something peeking out between the hem of Erin’s top and jeans. “Huh. I never noticed this before,” he murmured, a small frown pulling at his lips at the sight of the belly button piercing. It was probably not a subject that would ever come up naturally, but Jay was sure that it should have at least left a scar. One he doesn’t recall ever seeing.
“Noticed what?” Voight asked, interrupting his musings and reminding him that he was alone with his boss, and shouldn’t be thinking about how well he knew his girlfriend’s body.
“Um, nothing. Just the picture. I’ve never noticed it before,” Jay covered, not lying completely as he replaced it and turned back to Voight. “Any chance I can get a copy? I would love to see Erin’s face when it turns up on the mantle.”
“No,” Voight replied without missing a beat.
“Fair enough.” Jay honestly didn’t expect anything different, but made a mental note to bring it up the next time he saw Erin. Changing the subject before his thoughts took him down the wrong road again, he nodded towards the TV in the corner of the room. “You catching the Hawks game tonight?”
Raising a brow, Voight nodded. “I’m heading out to the club, so probably, yeah.”
Pausing, Jay realised that was probably the best he was going to get for the day and to head back if he wanted to catch the game himself. “Right. If that’s not a cue to leave then…”
“I’ll see you at work, Jay,” Voight said, walking him to the door.
“Have a good evening,” he replied, heading out before turning back at the last moment. “And seriously, happy Father’s Day,” he repeated earnestly, before adding when Voight furrowed his brow at him; “You know, from Erin.”
Chuckling under his breath, Voight nodded and patted Jay on the shoulder as turned to leave again. “From Erin, right.”

[Can I request an image with Jay Halstead in which the reader and Jay don't get along very well since the disagreement they had at the hospital when they met because of a patient. And one night the reader comes across a FLYING cockroach in her apartment and starts screaming and Jay helps her get rid of the insect. ]
You didn’t hate Jay Halstead. No, he was just the annoying guy from two doors down that frequently got on your nerves. First off, you met in the Med ED when one of his friends got brought in. That first interaction alone was horrible.
He tries to tell you (a doctor) how you should take care of his friend (a police officer) and you guessed it, Jay was also a police officer. No medical training whatsoever. But he one upped you, went over your head and got his brother to take over the case.
That was just the beginning of it all. Ever since then it’s like he was always there to push buttons. He never took his laundry upstairs in a normal time. You’d go down to put a load in and his clothes would be in the washer.
You of course didn’t dare move them instead leaving a note on his door telling him to ‘finish your fucking laundry’ which sure he listened to, placing the same note back on your door with a thud as he carried his now dry basket of clothes into his apartment.
Not only that but he always, always, managed to park just a little over the line in the parking lot which at the right time made parking nearly impossible. And since it was assigned parking it wasn’t like you could just move somewhere else. Though you did get your karma a couple times.
Parking as close to his driver side door as possible so he’d have to do gymnastics to get in the vehicle. Always earned you a sharp glare when you passed in the hallway.
He was as fed up with it as you were but that didn’t stop him from parking like an asshole. Like tonight. When he parked slightly crooked over the line and you just so happened to be pulling in behind him.
With a bite of your tongue you did what you always did, pulled up nice and snug to his truck and got out, shooting him an innocently sweet smile as you locked the doors and headed inside.
If looks could kill you’d be dead on the ground right now but that didn’t matter. All you wanted to do was get inside, take a shower and go to bed.
The elevator upstairs was taking forever and by the time it was coming to the ground floor Jay had made his way inside and next to you.
The silence was full of tension as the doors opened, a young couple walking out with their dog, breezing past. Jay shockingly let you inside first, following and stepping to the side with the buttons and signaling to be brought up.
“Was that necessary?” His voice cut the silence as he kept his gaze on the numbers changing above the door.
You rolled your eyes, leaning against the opposite corner, “Don’t park like a dick and that wouldn’t happen,” you replied with a shrug, watching as he shook his head just slightly. The door opened seconds later and the two of you split towards your apartments.
His was just down from yours and completely bare compared to the floor mat outside of yours. The rainbow ‘welcome!’ Sign had seen better days but you didn’t mind its wear and tear as you went inside, shedding the outdoor layers the were a necessity in the cold of Chicago.
Your next stop was the bedroom for clothes and then the bathroom to shower. Which you basked in, the warmth of the water holding you in longer than you wanted it to.
As it grew slightly later you moved to the kitchen, deciding to make something small for dinner before something buzzed by your ear.
Absentmindedly you swatted it away, continuing on with the food making before whatever it was, landed on your arm, pulling a loud scream from your mouth, brushing it off quickly and pulling back against the wall.
Your eyes followed it around the room, the door to your apartment flying open, “Are you okay?” Jay nearly tripped coming inside, his eyes zooming around the entrance to your apartment.
The bug landed on the counter, a whine leaving your mouth before you looked up at the man that usually you’d hate seeing but right now we’re so thankful for. Shakily you pointed at the counter, “There’s a bug.”
Part of you was embarrassed but the way his shoulders relaxed as he stepped further into the kitchen made you feel the slightest bit better. “Seriously? You screamed bloody murder over an insect?”
“First of all, it landed on my arm. Second of all, you’re the one that came barreling in over it.” You rolled your eyes, arms tightly wrapped around you. Bugs were the last thing you liked dealing with. You could do blood, pus, vomit. All the nasty doctor stuff.
But not bugs. “I thought you were hurt.” Jay sighed, looking around. “Where are your paper towels?” He asked, following the line of view where you pointed again.
With a sigh he ripped one off the roll, slowly going towards it. “Wait don’t kill it-“ Jay faced you.
“What?”
“He’s just a bug, he doesn’t deserve to be killed just because I hate him and want him gone.” You slightly stepped forward, reaching into the cupboard above the sink, trying so hard not to disturb the winged insect.
Jay raised his eyebrows, “So the bugs a he now?” He teased, watching as you grabbed a glass and handed it to him.
“Shut up, just, get him so you, I, we, whatever can get him the hell out of here.” You spoke quickly, Jay raising his hands up in defense before placing the glass over the bug.
He turned to you once more, “Now what? You have paper just lying around?” His words were sarcastic but in actuality you did.
You brushed past him, grabbing a page from the magazine you had on your living room table, ripping it out and handing it to him. “That work?”
Jay nodded faintly, “Yeah..” He took it, successfully trapping the bug in the cup as he lifted it. “I’ll let him out the window,” The man offered, walking to the living room where you pulled a window and its screen open for him.
Once it was gone you took the cup from him, a light smile on your face, “Uh, thank you.” You muttered, walking away quickly to the kitchen to wash it out. Whether it touched it or not that glass was tainted.
“Yeah, no problem. Hey, next time try not to scream like you’re getting killed unless you’re actually getting killed.”
“Oh yeah I’ll do my best.” You rolled your eyes once more, glancing over at him. “No promises though. I hate bugs,” You added, flipping the cup over to let it dry.
Jay nodded faintly, “Well, you know where I am if you need an exterminator.” You shot him a look, “Or remover.” He tagged on before giving you a soft smile, “I’ll see ya.”
With that he left and you couldn’t help but look at the door when he was gone. Maybe he wasn’t that horrible of a guy.

Neighbors pt.2 - Jay Halstead
Requested: technically yes?
Word count: 1,379
Warnings: nothing really, just kinda cute
A/n: tbh i kinda just winged this
Masterlist
Tumblr media
It had only been a few weeks since your late night run in with Jay, embarrassment still following you when you passed him.
Not that he poked fun at you. Jay halstead wasn’t that big of an asshole. People had fears and he respected that. Everyone had something they were scared of. Even people that swore they didn’t.
Even him. Though his wasn’t as simple as bugs crawling or flying around his apartment. Or even heights. It wasn’t something as normal, as mundane as that. No.
What Jay feared, was being alone. Truly alone. He’d never admit it of course, but having his team by his side always made him feel better. The late nights at Molly’s. Invitations to come and watch a movie or a game, anything.
He grasped at all of it, holding onto it like a life preserver. Especially after tough cases. When the events of the day took a toll on him in ways nobody would ever understand. All he wanted was to ignore it and have someone by him that would keep him sane.
And usually he did. Hailey was a great partner, she rarely let him go home upset, always offering a shoulder to cry on. But this case? He screwed everything up. Got too close.
Took too many risks. And now he was isolating himself. Letting his team cool off before he talked to them, knowing each and every one of them had some choice words that they wanted to say to him.
You knew something was off when he didn’t react to your parking, instead silently getting out of his passenger side, closing the door without even slamming it in annoyance. Part of you even felt bad for possibly making his night worse as he trudged his way to the building.
It felt like an alternate universe had opened up and swallowed you whole. The man had held both the front door to the building open for you and made sure you were in the elevator before pushing the close door button.
If you had been any closer, you would have asked him what was wrong. If there was anything you could do. But you weren’t. The two of you were barely acquainted with one another, enemies if anything. So instead you stood silently, back to the corner.
Once on your floor you went to your door, stopping as you watched Jay go past, a light sigh leaving your lips, “Hey,” Your voice nearly made him jump, slightly looking up with a tilt of his head.
“I don’t know what has you all moody but, if you wanna talk…” You trailed off, the man muttering a thanks before going inside, leaving you in the silence that followed.
Awkwardly, you went inside, heating up some leftover pizza before changing into some pajamas. It was a Friday which meant no work for the next two days which also meant wine and shitty movies.
At least that’s what you expected as you sat, getting almost an hour into the film you decided on and about quarter of a bottle of wine, when there was a knock on your front door.
With a confused look you stood, heading to the door and peering through the peep hole. Jay was standing on the opposite side, hands in his pockets as he stood a reasonable distance from the door.
Instantly you opened it, looking up at him. “I uh, I was hoping to take you up on that offer.” Jay muttered, partially ashamed that he caved, leaving his apartment to come talk.
But he also knew if he didn’t get all of it off his chest then he might implode. Which wouldn’t be very good. “Yeah, yeah of course,” You stepped aside, letting the clearly distraught man in. “Do you want something to drink? I’m currently downing wine but I have beer, and water or something.”
Jay shook his head, “A beers okay, if you’re sure.” He attempted to not feel like a burden to you, clearly not sure what he was allowed to do, or say or touch.
It wasn’t like he was your best friend or something.
You nodded towards the living room, handing him the bottle of beer you grabbed before moving back to the couch. He took the spot on the opposite end, sitting practically on the edge with his leg bouncing.
“Are you okay?” Your voice was soft, the instinct to comfort taking over any sort of feeling you generally had for the detective.
Jay let out a dry laugh as he shook his head, a soft sniffle following that you pretended you didn’t hear. “I would say yes but if that were true I wouldn’t have come over here. So.” He shrugged, answering the question with a non-answer.
You shifted forward, leaning to try and see his face. (Spoiler: you failed) “Is there anything I can actually do? Do you just wanna sit here? Talk about it? Ignore it?” There was no way you could not ask him those questions.
He was on your couch, solemn look on his face as he drank the beer. “My entire team is pissed at me. Not that it isn’t deserved, I screwed up our case today and it’s going to backfire on all of us. But I just,” Jay sighed heavily, “A boy almost died and I had to do what I did.”
There was a moment of silence before he looked over at you. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come here I just… I hate being alone and you’re the only person that doesn’t hate hate me.” Jay shook his head.
“Well, doesn’t hate me enough to kick me out.” He corrected, chewing at the inside of his cheek. “Which you can totally do if you want to.” Jay huffed out, taking a long sip from the bottle.
You shook your head, “You obviously need someone, I wouldn’t kick you out. Not when you’re like this. You can stay here as long as you need to.” Hesitantly you put a hand on his back, feeling him tense under your touch.
“Did whatever you did at least work?” You attempted to make conversation, a small smile cracking on his face as he nodded.
“Yeah, it did. The kid’s safe. Back home with his family.” He took pride in what he did as a detective. Most, if not all, of the choices he made on the job were things he was proud to do.
Jay was good at his job, he knew what he was doing and he didn’t care what happened if it meant the people he needed to get to were safe. “Good, that’s good.” You breathed out, unsure about what to say next.
This was all uncharted territory and honestly, it was weird. One of two times Jay Halstead was in your apartment and he was nearly in tears. Not something you were used to.
A slight chuckle came from the man, pulling your attention back to him, “Are you seriously watching this movie?” He had tried to use the film you had on in the background to distract himself, laughter building up as he shook his head.
“What- it’s my night for shitty movies shut up,” You nudged his side, face scrunched up as you did. Jay held a hand up defensively, nodding as he did.
“Well you sure did pick a shitty one.”
“Yeah yeah, I bet you have great taste in movies.” You replied with a roll of the eyes, Jay sitting back against the couch, actually relaxing a bit.
As he tried to stop the laughter, he nodded again, “I definitely do.” Jay answered matter of factly, looking over at you. For the first time you noticed the slight rim of red around his eyes, like he’d been crying before he even got to yours.
It almost made you want to hug him, seeing people in pain never felt right. “Fine, here,” You tugged yourself out of your thoughts, reaching to grab the remote that was handed to him seconds later. “Put something better on.”
“I will.” Jay took the remote, flipping for a movie he liked and that’s how the rest of the night went. On your couch, watching a movie with the person you least expected.

Hey guys !!
With the changes I've made to the characters I write for and such, I'm going to reset my taglists.
Here is the link to resubmit your user. HERE pretty please do I want to make sure you guys can still see my stuff. <3
A/n: I don't write for Chicago PD anymore (Jay, Hailey, Kev) And I've also decided to close my Connor requests probably for good. I'm not sure if I'll open them back up again. I did have two requests for him that I have been trying to write but I unfortunately probably won't because of my brain.
I'm sorry if any of this is upsetting? I don't know lol but my form is very messy so I want to clean it up.
Have a good day babes.
xx Teddy
