Your hospital shift was nothing short of exhausting.
That day there were three hospitalizations in the ICU due to a terrible accident that happened in the afternoon. Three patients, all of them brain dead. The ward was short-staffed and it was just you and another nurse, Amanda, on that shift so dealing with these three new patients, along with the other ones, was really exhausting.
After closing your locker, you removed the necklace where you hung the ring and slipped it onto the ring finger of your left hand, which you did at the end of each shift. You didn't want to risk losing it during work, you’d never forgive yourself for it so you just carried it around your neck during the shifts. You looked at it for a moment with a smile on your lips thinking back to the day Jay asked you to marry him.
You took your cell phone from the pocket of your uniform and, as you walked towards the exit, bag on your shoulders, you noticed various texts from Jay, the last one dating back to a couple of minutes prior.
From Fiancée 💍, 7:17 pm
Baby we're still dealing with a difficult case, I think I'll be late tonight. Please let me know when you get home. I love you endlessly. Be careful.
From Fiancée 💍, 7:55 pm
Baby? Are you okay?
From Fiancée 💍, 8.21 pm
Should I send a patrol to the hospital? You know I'll do it love.
You chuckled not doubting about that, you knew he would. Jay had always been very protective of you, which you wouldn't admit but loved it madly. You loved he cared about you, so much he’d leave everything and everyone to come to you if you asked him to.
From you, 8.27 pm
I'm sorry love, it's been a hard shift and I just picked up my cell phone. I'm going home now. How are you? When will you finish? You’ll come home soon, right?
You left the hospital and started walking home. It was late spring and the temperatures were finally starting to warm up a bit, allowing you to finally breathe fresh air. You really needed it after a whole day of smelling the hospital and disinfectants.
Your cell phone started ringing following a call.
“Hi baby! You really miss me that much, don’t you?” You begin, bringing your cell phone to your ear, a smile on your lips.
“I always miss you, you know that,” your fiancée answered on the other end of the phone. “Are you walking home?”.
“Yes, it's a beautiful evening and I felt like walking.”
Jay sighed. “Baby you know I don't like the idea of you walking alone in the dark, you could’ve taken a taxi or waited for me to pick you up.”
“Oh come on Jay, what’s gonna happen. I'll be home in twenty minutes,” you retorted “Where are you?”.
“I'm still in the district baby, I have to finish writing a case report and then I'm finally leaving,” you heard some noise in the background but you couldn't figure out what he was doing.
Jay continued to keep you company on the phone, refusing to leave you completely alone even though you'd insisted that he finish work so he'd get back to you soon.
You asked him about his day and he started telling you what he had done as you listened to him carefully, asking him a few questions from time to time when you didn't quite understand something. You bumped into a person and quickly mumbled an apology before walking on, quickly glancing at the man who reassured you not to worry.
“Everything okay baby?” Jay asked.
“Yeah, yeah, I got distracted and bumped into a guy, no big deal. What were you saying?”.
Suddenly an unease feeling went through your body. You tried to let it go, thinking it was just a figment of your imagination.
You clasped your hand around your purse, quickly picking up your pace when you began to hear footsteps behind you.
They were so loud you seemed to hear them only a few feet away from you.
You turned around and stopped in your tracks, looking around for a few seconds before letting out a sigh of relief.
There was no one walking behind you.
Your heart was pounding and anxiety was eating up your stomach and you forgot for a moment you were on the phone with Jay.
Stay calm, you're just tired.
“Baby? You still there?” Jay's voice brought you back to reality. “Oh yeah, sorry, I couldnt hear you anymore.” You answered. You didn't want to make him worry about your simple and stupid feeling, you knew if you told him you had the impression someone was following you he would’ve rushed to you and acted like the world was about to end.
You were sure it was just the fatigue speaking, but your senses remained alert until you got to your apartment. You took a shower while you waited for Jay to come back home, ordering food since you knew neither of you would feel like cooking.
You were about to lower the blinds in your bedroom window when, glancing outside, you noticed a figure standing on the sidewalk in front of you.
It was too dark for you to make out who it was and for a few moments you stood paralyzed, your eyes fixed on that dark figure, trying to figure out if it was just a hallucination.
The noise of the front door opening and closing made you jump in place, nearly giving you a heart attack.
You took your eyes off that figure for just a second.
Just for a moment.
And it was no longer there.
You ran your hands over your face in frustration, letting out a deep sigh at the same time before walking over to Jay, deciding you were going to ignore it and just needed a good night's sleep.
-
The following days went on quietly and the strange episode that happened a few nights before passed into oblivion. But that was before something else weird made your skin crawl.
“Are you sure you don't want me to drive you to work babe?” Jay asked you as he planted numerous kisses on your lips, making you smile between them. It was morning and you were both in the doorway, your arms around his chest as you both struggled to pull away.
“I'm positive baby, just think about resting okay? I’ll see you tonight.”
He cupped his hands over your face, giving you one last long, sweet kiss on your lips. “I'll have dinner ready for you. You be careful. I love you so much.”
“I love you more.“
The day went on peacefully. You had to work a double shift in the hospital as the nurse on the afternoon shift was sick and had to take over her place.
You loved your job, you really did. There was nothing else you would’ve done in your life but sometimes you couldn't deny how difficult and tiring it was.
“Y/N, sweetie!” You heard the voice of your colleague, Becca, calling you from a patient’s room you'd just passed. You sighed, recognizing the tone she used when she needed something.
You took a few steps back, looking into the room and noticing Becca intent on changing the unconscious patient's dressing.
“Becca I was about to leave, why do you still want to torture me?” You whined and she rolled her eyes. “Please help me change these dressings. Pretty please, I can't wait to leave too.”
She put on the sweetest puppy face she was capable of and for the second time you sighed and rolled your eyes. You ended up disinfecting your hands, putting on a pair of gloves and helping her to change the patient’s dressings.
By the time you finished you were dead tired and couldn't wait to get back to Jay and sleep, you probably would’ve just run away if anyone else had asked you any other favor. For this reason, you practically flew out of the hospital after saying goodbye to your colleagues.
It was particularly cold that evening and you found yourself rubbing your hands on your arms in an attempt to get some warmth. Thank God you took the car that day.
You walked over to your car and grabbed the keys from your bag. Before unlocking it, you noticed an object resting on the windshield, held on it by the wiper. You furrowed your eyebrows when you realized it was a rose.
A black rose.
What the fuck?
There was no card attached to it, just the rose.
Your heartbeat began to accelerate and anxiety took over you. You tried to keep calm and not freak out since there was definitely an explanation why someone had to put a damn black rose on your car.
Maybe they were wrong, maybe it was for another person and they got mixed up with the cars.
Who the hell gives a black rose though?
Your eyes scanned the parking lot around you but you didn't notice anyone suspicious or anyone nearby watching you, before dropping the rose on the asphalt, trying not to think about it. There was definitely a mistake.
The car ride was strange.
You couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong. You kept looking in the rear view mirror to notice if there were any cars following you, you were probably just getting paranoid but you couldn't keep yourself calm.
When you parked in your usual spot once you got back home, that feeling of discomfort hadn't disappeared, on the contrary, it had increased.
The streetlights hadn't been turned on yet and it was dark enough outside so distinguishing objects or people was pretty hard.
After locking the car you were about to enter the apartment building when your gaze fell on the sidewalk in front of you.
You didn't know if it was just your imagination, but you swore there was someone standing, exactly in front of you and, despite the darkness, you were sure they were watching you.
You couldn't figure out who that person was, only that he was a man.
Your breath caught in your chest as you realized it was the same figure you'd spotted a few days earlier from your bedroom window.
The silence was almost deafening, making everything more frightening and suggestive.
Your muscles were paralyzed as your eyes seemed to be glued to that man.
Suddenly he moved and your heart almost stopped beating.
But when you saw him go away, that was the last thing you expected.
He did nothing, just walked away.
You tried to explain what was happening in your mind. Maybe it was just a coincidence, that man was there for another reason and you had nothing to do with it.
You let out a sigh you didn't realize you were holding and quickly entered the apartment building, rushing to your home where you found Jay on the couch watching a show.
That rose left you with a feeling of anxiety that you couldn't get rid of easily, also caused by that figure you saw standing in front of you. You didn't immediately tell Jay, you didn't want to worry him since you already knew how he’d react and he’d worry to death and go crazy about it.
You just wanted to be sure that something’s happening before alarming him.
But, knowing you like the back of his hand, he immediately sensed there was something strange, that something was bothering you. You tried to convince him otherwise, that you were just awfully tired after working a double shift at the hospital.
“Baby, really, I'm fine. I'm just dead tired,” you said for the hundredth time since you'd set foot inside the house.
“Are you sure? You know you can talk to me. Did someone upset you? Did something happen at work?” He kept going, thumb and forefinger under your chin to keep your head up and make you look into his eyes. Your hands slid under his shirt, caressing his chest as you placed your lips on his, trying to distract him.
“No baby, nobody did anything. Seriously, nothing happened,” you muttered against his lips, “I just missed my fiancé like hell.” You bit his bottom lip and he hissed, his breathing suddenly heavy. “Do you want to take a shower with me?”.
“Fuck yeah,” Jay had said before crashing his mouth on yours and kissing your breath away. His tongue explored every corner of your mouth as his lips moved masterfully with yours. His hands went down your body and he bent slightly before reaching your thighs, pressing his fingers against your skin and urging you to jump into his arms.
You wrapped your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck meanwhile he carried you to the bathroom, never letting go of you. As he kicked the door open, you found yourself completely lost in him, the rest of the world vanishing and all negative thoughts forgotten.
However this sensation of bliss was destined to vanish.
In the following days the feeling that was tormenting you didn’t disappear, instead it only got worse.
You started to sense someone was constantly following you and watching you, that every time you walked in the middle of the street there was someone behind you even if every time you turned around there was no one.
After finding that rose on your car, this kept happening and almost every night for two weeks a rose would appear on your windshield.
Jay knew something was wrong, you weren't acting normally anymore.
You were always jumpy, any sudden noise made you almost have a heart attack, even if you were cooking and he suddenly hugged you from behind you’d be scared to death.
Needless to say Jay asked you a million times what was going on, what was it that was bothering you so much but you didn't want to bother him. You didn't want to upset him, make him worry about some stupid feeling of yours, not when his work was already haunting him enough.
Maybe deep down you were hoping whoever was leaving you those roses would stop and eventually leave you alone.
One evening you went out with your friends, on one of your rare days off, to try to keep your mind occupied and to catch up with them since you didn't always have the opportunity because of your hectic job.
Between laughter, jokes, chatting and various cocktails, the evening went on normally and by 1:00 am each one of you went back home. You headed towards your car, parked not far from the bar where you had all met together, calm and happy for the first time in weeks.
However, this feeling of calmness faded the instant your gaze fell on a damn black rose sitting on your windshield, again.
A wave of anger took over you.
You were tired, so damn tired of this little game that whoever it was was playing against you.
Who the hell was this person? What the fuck did they want from you? Why were they targeting you?
Whoever that person was they following you, they knew what you were doing, who you were with, and it scared the shit out of you as well as infuriating you.
You tore all the petals off that rose that would haunt you forever before throwing it angrily on the asphalt and getting into the car. You started it and quickly drove away from there, intending to go home immediately.
You wanted Jay, you wanted your fiancée. You wanted to hug him, feeling safe again in his arms and forget about all that shit that was going on.
As soon as you got home, however, your heart skipped a beat when you saw Jay laying on the sofa, asleep. The TV was on and he had his cell phone resting on his stomach, holding it close in case you called him. A smile was born on your lips and for an instant all negative thoughts flew away as your attention focused on the sleeping figure on the couch.
You leaned towards him, leaving a sweet little kiss on his forehead, also gently stroking his hair with your left hand. He stirred in his sleep and opened his eyes at the same instant, looking around before looking at you, a sigh of relief to see you were back home safe and sound.
“I’m sorry I woke you up baby,” you whispered, kissing his forehead again “Let's go to bed so you can sleep again.”
He mumbled something you couldn’t catch and rubbed his eyes before flashing a smile that nearly made your knees buckle. He nodded and then stood up, stretching his arms before pulling you into a hug. “How are you my love? Did you have fun?”.
The memory of that rose returned to your mind but for some reason, seeing his eyes so red and tired, you decided not to worry him about it and you’d talk to him about it the following morning.
“Mmh,” you muttered nodding your head “I really had fun, we needed this girls night out even though I missed you a lot.”
He chuckled, placing his hands on your face and giving you a kiss on the lips. “I’m glad darling, you deserved it since you’re working so hard lately. And I missed you so much more,” he kissed you again “Come on, let's go to sleep now.”
But that night you couldn't sleep given the thousands of thoughts that were going through your head. You couldn't help but think who would do something like that, what the hell those roses meant. Was there anyone who had it in for you? Did you do something to someone? Maybe an angry patient?
You thought again and again about who could be doing this but none occurred to you. Jay told you about his cases so many times you knew that whoever did this was doing it to torture you, to keep you on your toes, to make you live in fear.
And the fact they were succeeding was infuriating you.
Fear turned into pure terror when, while checking your cell phone, you noticed a text from an unknown number.
So pretty. Can’t wait to meet you.
How did they get your number?
You were so immersed in your thoughts you didn't notice it was morning and that Jay had woken up in the meantime. He literally jumped out of bed when you told him the time after he asked you, realizing he was late. You had the afternoon shift so you didn't have to worry about getting ready for quite a while longer.
“Baby can I talk to you about something?” You had asked him, not being able to hold it in anymore even though you knew you picked up the worst time to do it.
How smart were you for wanting to talk to him about something so delicate as he was hurring to get dressed and going to work? Not much.
“Can you tell me about it later? I'm so sorry, but I'm super late…” he replied frantically as he ran from one part of the room to another looking for the keys. He stopped for a moment in front of you, placing his hands on your face, analyzing your features. “Is it something important though? If…”
You shook his head, placing your hands on his chest and giving him a reassuring smile even if anxiety was making you nauseous. “No, it's not urgent baby. I'll tell you tonight. Now go.”
He smiled at you and made sure to leave you a long, sweet kiss on your lips before saying goodbye and literally flying out of the front door.
It could wait, right?
You tried to keep yourself busy all morning, cleaning every corner of your apartment and keeping your mind from the negative thoughts.
You couldn't deny the slightest noise made you jump, even when you accidentally dropped something on the floor. You hated this feeling, you hated having to be afraid in your own home, you hated whoever was doing this to you, you hated them so fucking much.
You nearly jumped for joy when you realized it was time to get ready for work, the thought that for few hours you'd be safe made you especially happy to go to the hospital.
You took a shower before quickly putting on your uniform and packing your bag. You checked that everything you needed was there, house and car keys and hospital locker keys, a bottle of water, tissues, tampons, some snacks, pepper spray and a small knife. Jay had forced you to carry them around constantly, asserting you could never be too safe and he’d be comfortable with the thought you had something to protect you in case of need, and never as then as then you were grateful to him.
Once you left the apartment, you made sure you locked the door at least three times. The anxiety that had been living with you for weeks was now gripping your stomach, forcing you to constantly look around and keeping you alert to any individual passing by you.
You forcefully clutched your purse to you, walking briskly to your car and unlocking before climbing in and locking yourself inside. You let out a breath you didn't realize you were even holding as your eyes continued to scan the perimeter for any type of threat.
Did you already mention how much you hated this?
“It's okay Y/N, it's okay, just take it easy,” you whispered to yourself, taking a deep breath before putting on your seat belt and starting the car.
As you drove to the hospital you couldn't help but constantly look at the rear view mirror, almost as if you expected someone to be following you but they weren't, there was no car that you repeatedly noticed behind you.
Your cell phone started ringing and you took it from inside your bag, not taking your eyes off the road. Without even looking who it was, imagining for a moment it was Jay, you answered.
“Hello?”.
The smile on your lips instantly disappeared when instead of a voice you started to hear a heavy sigh, almost a pant.
“Hello?”.
You took the phone away from your ear and glanced at the screen, noting that it wasn't Jay, or anyone else you knew, but an unknown ID.
“Who is this?” You continued, hoping whoever it was would answer and maybe you'd recognize the voice. The person on the other end of the phone just kept sighing heavily, making your heart beat so hard you thought you were about to have a heart attack at any moment.
“What the fuck do you want from me?! Leave me alone!” You screamed, in the grip of fear, anxiety and anger that this person was forcing you to suffer. You closed the call and threw the cell phone on the passenger seat, not caring if it had bumped into something or was broken.
Your vision began to blur with tears fearing for your safety. They had your number. They knew where you lived. What kept them from taking you and killing you?
Your hands were shaking on the wheel as you parked at the hospital, palms sweaty. Your heart was still pounding and there wasn't a muscle in your body that didn't shake like your hands.
You took a few minutes to compose yourself, not wanting to cause questions from colleagues about the reason of your emotional state.
You took a few deep breaths and wiped your tears away, constantly telling yourself that everything was fine, that you'd be fine, that no one could hurt you in the hospital.
You never felt the need to have Jay with you like then. God you were stupid, so fucking stupid for not telling him about all of this before, for keeping everything inside you and hoping it’d eventually just go away, for underestimating what was happening. You were being stalked.
You texted him, telling him you'd arrived at the hospital and asking how his day was going, determined to tell him about the person who was stalking you as soon as you got off work.
You never thought you'd say it but you were never as glad you had a hard shift as you were that afternoon. Four patients arrived, one after suffering a stroke, two from a car accident and another after falling from the roof of his house.
The entire shift consisted of you and your colleagues running back and forth across the ward, treating patients, resuscitating them after one of them went into cardiac arrest twice. Your mind was focused on nothing but your patients and in treating them, everything else was left out of the hospital. You wouldn't let whoever was stalking you ruin your job, ever.
At the end of the shift there was no need to say you were dead tired and couldn't wait to go to sleep and although it was only 8:00 pm, the lack of sleep of the night before starting to take a toll on you.
As you placed your stethoscope in the locker and grabbed your bag, you removed your engagement ring from the chain around your neck and putted it on your finger. Your cell phone rang following a text notification and your heart skipped a beat for an instant.
The anxiety, which you managed to not to think about during the afternoon, returned stronger than ever to grip your stomach and for a moment you considered to throw the phone away.
But you thought it’d Jay and when you realized that it was indeed him, you breathed a sigh of relief. He said he'd be late that night because of a particularly difficult case and to let him know when you'd be done and went back home.
You tried to hide your sorrow, not wanting to be alone, especially in that situation.
You quickly typed a text back, asking him what he’d like for dinner, and put your cell phone in your bag. You said goodbye to your colleagues and walked towards the hospital exit.
You took a deep breath, praying to God to go home safe and sound.
Although spring had arrived it was particularly cold that evening due to the wind blowing and you cursed yourself for not bringing a jacket with you.
You walked, actually, almost ran to your car.
Anxiety was eating you alive and your heart was pounding, fear flowing like a river through your veins.
After taking the keys from your bag and unlocked the car, you quickly looked around, a sigh of relief leaving your lips when you saw no one was around you.
But suddenly the keys fell out of your hands as a slimy hand placed over your mouth and an arm around your hips.
Your bag fell to the ground as you began to squirm in an attempt to free yourself from whoever grabbed you.
Adrenaline coursed through your veins as the fear of dying made you fight like never before.
You screamed, your throat burning, even though because of the hand your scream came out muffled.
“Stop fighting it, it had to happen sooner or later, you knew it was going to happen sweetie,” A man's voice came hoarsely to your ears and you suppressed a gag.
You managed to hit his side with your elbow, hard enough to loosen his grip on you and you tried to push him away with all the strength you had in your body.
“You fucking whore!”.
You threw yourself to get the car keys on the asphalt but the man was faster than you and grabbed your arm, pressing his fingers into your skin with such force you were sure they’d leave a mark.
A searing, stinging pain radiated up your face as his fist hit you full-on, knocking you to the ground. You put your hands forward to try to cushion the fall, but it caused you scratches and minor lacerations on both your forearms.
“We're meant to be. I know you want it. I saw it.”
You glanced at him and almost fainted when after few seconds your recognized him.
You had already met him. He was the guy you bumped into two weeks ago.
What the fuck?!
He tried to grab your wrists but before forcing you to get up, you managed to kick him in his genital area, using all the strength you had in your body. A sound of pure pain escaped his mouth and he backed away, leaning forward and gripping the sore area with his hands.
You took advantage of that moment of weakness to get off the asphalt. You weren't going to let him hurt you, not anymore.
You grabbed his black hair in two fists and you didn't care about the damage you would’ve caused him, you didn't care you were a nurse, that you were supposed to be the one to treat people and not hurt them, but you kneed him in his face and the horrible noise his bones made, suggested you most likely broke his nose.
You pushed him to the ground, ignoring the way he grunted in pain and the blood pouring profusely from his nose, kicking him in the stomach with such force that even you were stunned.
You never fought in your entire life, never kicked anyone or punched someone, you hated the idea of hurting people but at that very moment your life was on the line and you had to protect yourself.
The man was laying on the asphalt grunting and muttering some curse word and you took advantage of it. You had to run away, that was your only chance.
You quickly grabbed your car keys and purse off the ground before opening the door and getting in. You locked yourself in before you started fumbling to get the vehicle going.
Your hands were shaking and your vision was still blurry from the punch he had thrown at you.
You gave him a quick look, terrified he’d get up and kill you on the spot.
You didn't know how but you managed to start the car and without even looking back you drove away from that parking lot. You knew you couldn't drive in those conditions but you just wanted to get away from that monster.
You didn't know where to go, you didn't want to go home, the terror of being attacked there would’ve killed you so you went to the place where there was the only person you wanted to see, the only one who could make you feel better, safe.
The journey to the district was awful.
Your body was driving but it was as if you were experiencing everything from the outside, as if your soul had left your body and was looking at you from afar.
You didn't know how you managed to drive and not run over anyone or crash yourself.
Your breathing was still quickening, your chest rose and fell as if you'd run a marathon, your trembling hands struggling to hold onto the steering wheel. Your vision was blurred due to copious tears flowing from your eyes and streaming down your face, not even realizing you were crying desperately.
Your face was in pain and you were sure a huge bruise would appear on your cheek, although you didn't care, grateful you were still alive, that you managed to escape.
When you arrived at the district, you didn’t care about parking your car properly, or to take your bag or lock it after getting off. You just wanted Jay.
A smile appeared on Sergeant Platt's face the moment she saw you walking up the stairs, but when she noticed the way you were running, it immediately disappeared.
“Oh my God Y/N!” she exclaimed as soon as she saw you up close. Your face was streaked with tears, an expression of pure terror and fear contouring your features, your uniform stained with dust. She ran towards you, placing her hands on your arms. “What happened to you?” She took a look at your body looking for any other injury. “Oh dear. It's okay, whatever happened you're safe here.”
You kept breathing hard and your eyes were so full of tears you could barely see her.
“Shh it's okay. Come on, let's go sit down.”
She put her arm around your shoulders as she took your hand with her free one as a sign of support. She led you into one of the break rooms, making you sit on the couch and sitting next to you.
Her hand kept squeezing yours meanwhile the other stroked your back, trying to calm you down.
“Do you want some water?” She asked and you nodded, not being able to speak at the moment. Trudy got up and ran to get a bottle of water.
She handed it to you after opening the cap and it broke her heart to see the way you were shaking. “T-thanks,” you stammered, your chest shaking with sobs. “J-Jay.”
“I'm going to call him right away, don't move from here,” she said, seeing the way you needed him. She got up and ran upstairs, where Intelligence was still busy working on the case.
Everyone turned to the sergeant, who was at the top of the stairs with an expression that did not bode well. “Trudy, did something happen?” Voight asked as soon as he saw her but her gaze fell on Jay, who was standing by the whiteboard, arms folded across his chest.
“Jay… It's Y/N…” She spoke, saying nothing else. “She's downstairs now…”
Jay's eyes widened at the sergeant's words, his eyebrows furrowed in an expression of worry and fear. He knew something was up, by the way Platt looked at him and a wave of anxiety hit him, his mind now focused only on you.
Without even letting her finish the sentence, he quickly moved away from the others, running down the stairs, almost tripping on his feet. Trudy followed him, giving no explanation to the rest of the team who just exchanged a worried look.
“Where's she?” he asked hurriedly and Trudy pointed him to the room you were in.
He burst into the room and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw you sitting on the sofa but immediately worrying when he saw the state you were in. Trudy closed the door behind him, leaving you two alone and not giving any other cops a chance to snoop.
You had your elbows resting on your knees, your hands on your face as your leg bounced up and down almost obsessively.
“Baby!”.
His voice made you snap your head to him and before you knew it, you were rushing into his arms, squeezing yours around his torso with so much force you were almost afraid he’d disappear.
Jay was surprised for a moment but immediately returned that hug, wrapping his arms around your shoulders and hugging you like he never did. He had no idea what had happened, but whatever it was he knew it was serious and that was enough to make his heart race.
“I'm here baby, I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. It's okay,” he whispered, placing a kiss on your head, stroking your hair. You cried in his arms, with relief because he was finally there with you.
His heart sank as he heard you cry like that, feeling helpless like never before. You kept shaking and, without even knowing anything, Jay promised himself whoever had done this to you was a dead person.
“Baby you're making me worry to death. Please talk to me,” his voice coming out desperately. You broke away from his embrace, but still remained very close to him. “Darling, look at me. What happened?”.
His hands rested on your face and inevitably on the bruised cheek. You winched in pain and this didn't escape Jay, who was on the verge of losing his mind by then. “Y/N. Look at me,” he urged and you did as he said, lifting your head and making eye contact with him.
His breath caught in his chest as his gaze fell on the clear purple bruise on your cheek.
“What the fuck? Y/N…” he stammered, an incredulous and horrified look on his face as he looked at you. He took his hand away from your wounded cheek, placing two fingers under your chin and turning your head to inspect it better. “Shit baby… What happened? Who did this to you?”.
His heart was pounding in his chest and as his eyes looked at every single inch of that bruise that lined your cheek, every single cell in his body lit up with rage. Seeing the desperation on your face, the look of pure terror with which you were looking at him, the way your eyes were so full of tears, Jay felt as if he had stabbed and someone had twisted the knife over and over again.
“I-I… H-he…” you stammered meaninglessly, sobbing between words clearly still unable to speak.
“Oh baby come here,” he hugged you again, this time even harder than he had before. “My beautiful princess. It's okay, it's okay, you're safe now do you hear me? You're safe.” He tried to comfort you “I'm here now, I'm here. You’re not alone anymore and I will never let anyone hurt you again. You’re safe with me my love.”
“I-I was…” another sob “So… S-so scared…” you cried into his shirt, wetting it with your tears.
“I know, my baby, I know,” he whispered, placing lots of little kisses on your head. “I'm so sorry. It wasn't supposed to happen, not to you. But you're safe now, I'm here with you, you’re safe with me.” He kept repeating to you.
You both sat on the couch and he continued to hug you indefinitely, holding you and cradling you in his arms until you calmed down. “Sorry,” you muttered, your voice weak as you pulled away from his embrace, gesturing at his tear-stained t-shirt.
“Don’t even say it,” he replied. He raised his hand and stroked your hair, tucking it behind your ears as you kept your gaze on your hands. He was about to continue speaking when his eyes fell on the bruises on your arm, visible outside of your uniform.
His fingers lifted the sleeve to take a better look of the bruises on your skin. He immediately understood they were finger markers, a sign that someone had violently grabbed your arm.
“Oh darling,” he whispered, shattered at the sight of those horrible marks on your beautiful skin “What have they done to you?” His fingers caressed you gently, being careful not to hurt you further.
He was furious, like he had been a few other times in his life, and he still hadn't heard the story.
“Tell me what happened, please.”
You sighed and with still trembling voice, started talking. You told him about everything, about the roses, about the feeling of being followed, about the text, about the call and about the man who attacked you, the fact you already saw him for few seconds weeks prior, how he hit you and how you defended yourself.
“Why the hell didn't you tell me about it sooner?!” Jay snapped, when you finished speaking “This was never going to happen dammit! I would’ve killed that fucking son of a bitch.”
He leapt to his feet, running his hands over his face and pacing around the room. He didn't want to pick on you, it wasn't your fault and he knew it, but he was so damn angry, so angry you had to go through this, that he wasn't there to protect you.
His eyes landed on you noticing how yours quickly filled with tears again at his words and the tone of voice he used. “No, no, no baby, don't cry,” he rushed over to you, kneeling in front of you and wiping away the tears with his thumbs. “I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to blame you. It's not your fault, please don't cry.”
His hands rested on your knees as you looked at him with sad, broken eyes, making his heart break over and over again. “You’re right I should have told you about it…”
“No, baby, don't get this into your head okay? It's not your fault, I’m so sorry for snapping like that I’m just so fucking furious for what that piece of shit did to you. It’s his fault, he hurt you and make you go through all of this. I hate you had to go through this alone and I wasn’t there to help you,” He sighed “I knew something wasn't right, I should have…” Jay stopped his eyes suddenly widening as you looked at him confused.
“Oh my god, that's… That's what you wanted to tell me this morning, isn't it?”. You didn't answer, effectively giving him the answer he needed.
Jay scrambled to his feet again, as if he'd just been given an electric shock. “Fuck!” He tried to keep control but you jumped as he kicked a chair in anger before placing his hands on the table and bowing his head, his back towards you.
“Jay…” you mumbled, standing up and walking towards him. You placed a hand on his back even though he didn't move from that position.
“It's my fault, this…” he choked on his own words “If I had stopped and listened to you this morning… Shit… It shouldn't have happened… I’m so sorry…”
“Hey, hey, no baby,” you interrupted him “Don't be hypocritical and tell me to not blame me and then do the same.”
He turned his head to you and it broke your heart to see his eyes full of tears. “I was late Y/N… I… This happened to you because I didn't stop for five fucking minutes to listen to you!”.
“Jay, listen to me,” you spoke to him softly. You lightly pulled his arm, causing him to straighten his back. You cupped your hands over his face, stroking his cheeks. “It's that crazy bastard's fault okay? Not yours, not mine.”
“If something happened to you… God…”
“No. Let's not do this. No ifs and buts. I'm here and I'm fine, I was scared shitless, I'm still scared shitless, but I'll be fine. You’re here with me and you’re all I need baby. These are just bruises and they'll be gone in a couple days,” you croaked “You should’ve seen how he looked then.”
He sighed before letting out a chuckle though the tears, hugging you for the third time, his hand stroking your hair. “We'll get him okay? And I'll fucking make him pay for what he did to you.”
You and Jay went upstairs, not wanting to let you disappear from his sight for even a second, after reassuring Trudy and telling her what had happened. Needless to say, she threatened to kill the bastard herself if Jay didn't. The way he answered told you that there was no need and that he’d certainly sort it out.
“I'll get you some ice for the bruise,” Kim had offered. The rest of the team didn't take it quite well either and Voight promised you they’d catch the bastard who hurt you. You and Jay had been together for a long time and you were part of the group now, an attack on one of them was an attack on all of them.
“Thank you,” you thanked her with a warm smile, placing the bag of ice on your face. The cold sent a rush of shivers up your spine.
“Come on baby, let's go in the break room,” Jay had said, his hand resting on your lower back. However, your gaze fell on the white board on which various photos and sentences were hung.
At first you didn't notice, but when your eyes saw a particular photo, you did a double take, stopping in your tracks and lowering the hand that was holding the ice.
“Baby? Are you okay?” Jay immediately asked alarmed, then following the direction of your gaze. “Oh. That's the case we're investigating.”
The photo just on the blackboard wasn't clear enough, it was a frame taken from a surveillance video but you could distinguish the features of the man it portrayed.
You stopped breathing for a second and your mind retraced in those brief moments your aggression, still fresh and imprinted in your memory.
“Y/N?” Jay pressed, worried about your reaction as his hand caressed your back.
“It-it… Jay…” you breathed out “It's him…”
“What?!” Jay's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets and everyone in the unit couldn't mask their surprise.
“It was him… H-he attacked me… Oh god…”
Your hands start shaking again and you thanked that Jay was there to hold you or you would’ve probably collapsed on the floor.
Your eyes moved from that frame to the other hanging photos. There were four photos depicting four different women, more or less your age and similar in appearance to yours. Alongside these were other photos portraying instead what were unmistakably the victims’ bodies.
You were in complete shock.
What were the odds that the man stalking you was the same Jay was investigating on?
“C’mon let’s go,” Jay put his arm around your shoulders, leading you to the break room and closing the door behind him.
You weren't even crying. You were just completely shocked.
“Jay… He…” you stammered as if you were having trouble coordinating your thoughts. He put both of his hands on your shoulders.
“Baby, just breathe okay? Do it with me, take a deep breath.”
You shook yourself out of his grip, now in a panic. How could you calm down?
“He was… He would’ve killed me Jay, like… Like those women… Holy shit…” you continued to babble. You couldn't believe it. You understood that bastard was to be locked up somewhere, but you never, ever imagined he was a serial killer, that he’d done that before to those poor women. What if you didn't fight? What if he managed to overpower you?
Jay closed his hands into a fist, pressing his nails into his palms in an attempt to let out even a tiny bit of the anger, rage and fear he was feeling at the moment.
He didn't even want to imagine it, the thought was enough to make him sick. He didn't want to imagine what could happen to you. He run the risk of losing you forever without even realizing it.
Jay couldn't exist in a world where you weren't there. He couldn't even pass the idea of not having you next to him, the pain from this thought alone was unbearable and it was enough to make his heart shatter to pieces. Damn it, he asked you to marry him, you were his fiancée, his soon to be wife, the future mother of his children. You had to start a family together, buy a bigger house to raise your children and you’d live and grow old together, forever.
He couldn't accept some son of a bitch threatened to take you away from him, the most beautiful person he'd ever met, the love of his life, his anchor and his salvation.
“What happened to those women?” You asked, afraid to hear the answer.
“Baby…”
“No Jay, please, just… Just tell me. What happened to them?”.
Jay took a deep breath, knowing that telling you would only make you feel worse. “No, love. Listen to me now,” he walked over to you, placing a hand on your healthy cheek and stroking your skin with his thumb. “Don't torture yourself like this, it won't do you any good to know, please trust me. You were so brave and you managed to knock out that son of a bitch and now you're here with me, safe, so just think about this okay? I beg you. I don't even want to think about what happened to those poor women, I don't want to think something like that could’ve happened to you and I don't want you to think about it either.”
He was right. You didn't want to know, sometimes it was better to live in the unknown.
“I'm so proud of you,” he whispered, kissing your forehead as his fingers wiped away your tears with excruciating delicacy. “I would’ve died if anything had happened to you baby, I love you so, so fucking much. I couldn't have survived without you.”
“I love you so much Jay,” you too replied in a whisper before sharing a soft, sweet kiss, your nerves starting to finally calm down. “What happens now?”.
“You’ll stay here and we’ll continue to work non-stop until we catch that bastard.”
“Are you sure I can stay here?”.
“Is this even a question?” He looked at you as if you were an alien “Yes baby, of course you can. You have stay here. I need to know you're safe or I won't be able to think of anything else and I know nothing can happen to you if you’re here. If you need anything call me and I’ll be here okay? Try to get some rest, and put ice on your cheek.”
You nodded, knowing that even you wouldn't feel safe anywhere else but there in the district.
After sitting on the small sofa in the break room you eventually fell asleep, tired and worn out from the shift, the day's events and the lack of sleep from the previous night.
Jay and the rest of the team worked nonstop to try and locate the suspect whose name was still unknown. After learning you had hit his nose and you had probably broken it, they called the hospitals in the area and within a radius of about 20km – deducing he wouldn’t be so stupid to go to the hospital where you worked – with the hope that he’d go to get treated.
This hope turned out to be a reality when Kevin was told by a hospital just outside the city that there was a patient matching the description who was still there waiting to be treated for his broken nose.
When Jay went into the break room to warn you they'd found a lead, his heart skipping a beat seeing you asleep. Your head was resting on the back of the couch, your arms folded across your abdomen as your chest slowly rose and fell.
A sad smile spread across his face as he approached you with silent steps, his chest tightening at the sight of that horrible bruise on your cheek. As his eyes roamed on your body, he then noticed some scratches on your forearms and his stomach dropped again for the thousand time that night. He’d never forgive himself for not being able to help you, for failing to realize sooner what was happening, allowing someone to hurt you, he was hating himself for not being there to protect you.
He decided not to wake you up and he leaned over you, gently stroking your hair and tucking a strand behind your ear that had fallen in front of your face. He kissed your forehead, taking an extra second to savor the moment, grateful to still being able to do it.
“I love you so much my baby,” he whispered, “Everything will be okay, I promise you.”
After telling Trudy to stay by your side and never leave you alone, he headed towards the hospital where the suspect was supposed to be, his blood boiling with anger, his hands shaking with the frenzy of being able to have that son in his hands.
The stalker, however, after seeing the cops coming, didn't hesitate for a second to run away. Jay chased after him, determined not to let him get away.
“Chicago PD! Stop now!” Jay shouted as he quickly descended the emergency stairs and followed the man, skipping a few steps at a time in an attempt to reach him first. The fact the man was injured went to his advantage as Jay took the opportunity to jump on his back, causing both of them to fall heavily to the ground.
Jay's vision immediately blurred with anger.
He punched him in the face, using all the strength he had in his body to hurt him. “Son of a bitch!” He exclaimed through clenched teeth, punching him again and again. He didn't care about anything, he didn't care about the consequences there could be. He just wanted to see him suffer, to see him writhe in pain and fear, just the way you did.
“You made a fucking mistake tonight,” Jay spat, standing up and grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, lifting him up like a sack of potatoes before slamming him heavily against the wall. The man coughed, letting out sounds of pain even if Jay couldn't care less. “You'll wish you’d never met her when I'm done with you, you worthless piece of shit.”
He hit him in the face with another punch, not caring about the blood splattered on him after each blow.
He didn't even realize he wasn't alone anymore. Voight was there and watched the scene without batting an eyelid. He deserved it, he deserved everything Jay would do to him, not just for you but also for those poor women who weren’t lucky enough to survive. He knew there was no way to stop him, even if he wanted to, especially since you were involved.
Jay hit the man's head against the wall, then pushing him to the ground. He approached him and without any mercy and without even acknowledging the man's suffering, he kicked him in the stomach.
“Fuck…” the man murmured weakly.
“Look at me you son of a bitch!” Jay cursed, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt again and punching him in the face. “You thought it was fucking fun to hurt my fiancée?!”.
Another strong punch.
“Answer me!” He shouted, knowing he’d not receive a response.
Jay had completely lost control.
His mind was only picturing your wounded and tear-stained face, your terrified expression, your eyes full of tears, the bruises on your arm, on your face, the scratches, the way you hugged him so tightly because of the terror you felt, the fear you must have felt in those weeks.
“You thought you’d get away with it huh?! Making my future wife's life a fucking hell?!” He growled again, kicking this time the man’s face. “Making her scared of her own fucking shadow?!”.
Another kick in the stomach.
He was about to kill him and he didn’t give a fuck.
He bent over the man who was then barely breathing. “Did you like putting your useless dirty hands on my girl, huh?” he hissed as his foot stepped on one of the man’s hand with so much force until he heard his screams and his bones cracking.
He didn't move anymore, now unconscious and covered in his own blood.
Voight intervened at that point, not even knowing if he was alive or not. “That's okay Jay, calm down now.” He placed his hands on his shoulders, pulling him away from the unconscious man. Jay was breathing heavily, as if he had just run a marathon, his angry eyes still focused on the bastard lying on the ground.
“Now get away from here. Go out from the emergency exit and drive back to your fiancée, you were always there with her okay? I’m sure she needs you now.” Voight had ordered him but Jay didn't respond at first. “Halstead.”
At that point Jay focused his gaze on his boss and nodded feebly, casting one last glance at the stalker before walking away.
He wiped his face and hands with a handkerchief he had found in the car, trying to ignore the pain in his swelled hand, his knuckles red.
He never regretted what he did.
He had always condemned the brutal ways some cops used, like his own boss did sometimes, but in that moment he didn't stop to think about how he’d not hesitate even a second to do it again and make suffer anyone who’d hurt you.
When it came to you he’d lose his mind, his judgment clouded. You were the most important person in his life, the most precious of treasures, and he’d protect you with his own life if he could, if it meant keep you safe forever. It may have seemed an exaggeration, it may have seemed crazy, but he didn't care, God, he would’ve burn the entire city to the ground if it meant protecting you.
And as he drove to the district, eager to see you again, only one thought ran through his mind: how much he regretted not making that piece of shit suffer more.

You had just gotten out of your car across the street from the side of Med and, as you were making your way through the bit of road that led to the hospital, a car comes into the driveway — screeching tires, in full speed — and runs you over long before you could even see anything and, there, in the matter of a few seconds, everything goes black and you’re left bleeding out in the street.
Almost an hour later, after you had regained consciousness and had begun dragging yourself, very slowly, towards the hospital, Will and Ethan, about to go inside Med, spot you and run your way eager to help you out — even if they hadn’t known it was you at first.
“Oh man, it’s Dr. (y/n) (y/l/n)!” Ethan exclaimed.
“(y/n), can you hear me?!?” You sort of heard Will ask through your dizziness haze.
“Wow, you’re actually shorter this up close than I had imagined at first.” You attempted a joke with your friend, momentarily gaining some clarity.
Ignoring you, Will just asked no one specifically, “oh Lord, how long has she been bleeding out here?”
Decisive as always, you heard as Dr. Choi commanded, “I don’t know but, come on, Will, let’s carry her to the ED!”
As soon as your friends get inside the hospital with you, everybody stays in shock for a moment until Maggie yells: "get her in treatment 4, now!"
Following her lead, Will and Ethan get started on treating you, who has a few broken ribs, and free fluid in your belly besides from a punctured spleen. Having done their best in the ED, they decide to send your upstairs for surgery with Crocket.
Once you're going to surgery, Miss Goodwin tells Maggie and the doctors to call PD and specifically ask for Intelligence, since you were friends with the unit. As the cops get there, one stands out: Jay Halstead. He's frantic, devastated-looking, just completely lost, and desperate to hear more news about your condition. No one really understands why he is reacting like that, but all of them do share the fear of losing a great friend. Voight's giving out assignments to the team, so Jay knows that that's when he needs to speak up.
"Um, sarge?" All eyes are on him. "If you and the team don't mind running one man short today... I was hoping that I could, um, stay here with- with her?" Hank just stares at him, unlike everyone else — who are shocked — the older man's focus is on his detective's eyes, on the way he was so distraught from the moment they got the call about (y/l/n). That was the behavior, the look, of a terrified man. And, as everyone there knew, Jay Halstead — the freaking war vet — wasn't one to get scared easily. "(y/n) and I-"
"It's fine. No need to explain. You should stay here, Jay. Let us know, in case anything changes. And we'll catch the son of a bitch." He said firmly, making Jay feel as appreciative as ever, and, also, sending an implicit message to all the other members of the unit, one that said: we work this with all we got right now, for (y/n), and for Jay, no questions asked.
After the officers left the hospital, there was still a big commotion from everyone who stayed, because it was one of their own up there in the or. But, surpassing everyone else's, was Will's surprise by how distraught Jay looked, especially considering how his little brother wanted to stay at the hospital, instead of going to find who hurt you. So he comes to confront the detective about it. "So... You and (y/n) are a thing?" Will asked, trying to understand. Since Jay just nodded his head, he decided to push a little further: "And... Were you ever planning to tell me? What the hell, man?"
"Will, I-"
"She's one of my best friends, Jay! Not to mention the fact that I'm the doctor who oversees her work here!"
"Will you put it down?" Jay pleaded with his brother, motioning him to a more reserved corner of the waiting room. "I know, okay? I know. And I'm sorry if it upsets you, man, I really am. But this could've blown her career. That's why we hadn't told you yet." It was clear that Will didn't exactly like his brother's explanation, but he knew it was true.
"Just... How long?"
"Um, about six months?"
"Six months?!" The doctor yelled in shock, then repeated it in a lower tone. "But, six months?"
"Yeah, I know it's a lot of time keeping you in the dark, Will. But, trust me, we weren't thrilled about it. And we were hoping to tell you soon. I swear." Jay said, and his brother could, once again, see it was the truth.
"So, that means that when you started seeing each other she was still finishing med school?"
"Yeah, that's right. Which was, like, the main reason for us to keep it under wraps. An intern dating the attending doctor's little brother? Wouldn't look good."
"That's true..." At that point, Will took another look at his brother. Jay looked so worried and scared, even while trying to hide it. "So, uh, you guys are serious?" That question got a little smile out of the detective.
"Yes, we are. I know that it is new for you... But, I love her, Will. I really do." He took a moment to breathe, not being able to hold back some tears this time. “And, I can’t lose her. I just can’t.”
“Jay…” Will started saying but didn’t quite know how to continue. What could he possibly say to comfort his brother right now? “We just… We just gotta stay hopeful, okay? (y/n) is a really tough person and Dr. Marcel is a great surgeon, you know it. She is gonna pull through.”
A lot of disquieting hours later Crocket finally comes out of the surgery, just to be met by a very worried hospital staff and an on-edge Jay Halstead.
"Where is sh- How is she? Is (y/n) okay? Can I see her?" The detective hovers, not even taking a breath.
"Wow! Uh, you gotta calm down a little, buddy."
"Don't give me that crap! Just- just tell me how she is!" Jay shouts again, not giving a damn about what anyone was thinking. You were the only thing on his mind right now.
"Alright. But try to keep breathing, okay?" To that, the other man didn't even bother to answer. "Okay, um, it was a very complicated surgery, I had to do a lot of cleaning and moving around to get to the worst parts and-"
"Can you please just cut to the part where you tell me if she's okay? No offense, but you can fill me in on the details later." Jay stated nervously. It wasn't just that he wanted to know what was the result of all those hours in the or, but, also, because Jay knew he wouldn't understand half of what Connor was saying, even with the simplified language. You would. But not him.
"Right. Okay. She's, um, she's okay for now. We'll need to monitor her on an hourly basis, though." By that point, the surgeon could already see the relief on both Halsteads' faces, so he went on. "We controlled the bleeding, but, with all the blood loss," he stopped to take another look at the detective, "I'm afraid," another pause, because, sure he had delivered this kind of news before, but this time it was a lot harder, because those people were his friends. And, what they had just lost, he had just lost too, in a way, "we couldn't save the baby."
"The baby?" This time he got an answer from both brothers.
"Uh, uh... You, uh, you didn't know she was pregnant?" Crocket asked, kind of already guessing the answer while sharing a look with Will.
"Oh my God..." It was all the youngest Halstead managed to let out. Seeing how his brother was unable to react any further, Will decided to step up and ask the tough questions.
"So, um,  if everything goes well from now on, you think that (y/n/n) will make a full recovery?"
"Ahhh, yes, actually. She was in great health, so, after making it through, uh, through the night, she shouldn't have any major issues." At that point, Marcel himself was trying to be as objective and as doctorish as possible, in order not to make things worse for the man who had just heard that he lost a child he didn't even have a chance to wait for.
"So, is it, um- is it possible that she didn't know about the pregnancy yet?" But, damn it, Will just kept asking all the impossible questions.
"Uh... It is, actually. Very possible." Hearing that, the detective immediately glued his eyes on him. "We estimate that the fetus was about seven weeks. It's very common that women on birth control haven't found out about it at that point." As neither Halstead said anything, Marcel continued, "well, she's up in the ICU now and in and out of consciousness but, if you want, you can see her for a few minutes."
Hearing that, the detective came out of his haze and said: "Yeah, I wanna see her!"
A few hours later, as Will Halstead gathered his things after finishing his shift, he decided to go check on you but got surprised when he realized that his brother was still there, in the waiting room. "Jay, what are you still doing here?"
"I'm waiting," he said simply.
"Jay." Will called again, "you can't do this, you need to go home, get some sleep, eat…"
"I'm not leaving her alone."
"She's not gonna be alone, Jay." Not getting any response, Will decided to lead with something else. "You know, Voight called Goodwin and said that they're hitting a lot of walls in the (y/l/n) investigation…" Measuring his brother's reaction, Will continued: "Maybe they'd have better luck working with the whole team…"
"Yeah, you're probably right. Tomorrow I'll tell Voight that I want in on the investigation." Jay said, not making any sign of wanting to leave.
"Jay, you can't work tomorrow after staying here the whole night!" Seeing his little brother still not intending to leave, he threatened, "if you don't go home right now, I'll call Voight myself and tell him that you're in no shape to work-"
"Oh, c'mon! You're gonna do that!"
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Will said, looking as serious as they get. "Look, Jay, you know she's in good hands here. And, whatever happens, you'll be the first to know, I've made sure of it."
"But-"
"But nothing, Jay! It's time to go, come on!" Will pressed so much that Jay resigned himself to do as his brother told him.
For almost a week, you stayed in the ICU. For almost a week, Jay Halstead passed by Med on his way to work and on his way home from work.
Once you were moved to a room, Jay started feeling like he could finally breathe again, even though there was now the baby that someone had still to tell you. And, after chatting with Will and Crockett, Jay had already decided he was gonna be the one to deliver the news to you. So, one day, after Intelligence had already caught the drug dealers that were running away when they hit you, Jay asked Voight for the afternoon off to take you home from the hospital.
When you were at your place, you asked Jay what was going on: "Hey, you didn't say a word on the way here, is anything besides the fact that I just spent almost two weeks in the hospital and that everyone found out about us wrong?"
"Let's sit down for a minute, babe."
The minute he said that, you knew there was something really wrong.
"Okay, you're scaring me…" You said while sitting down on the couch.
"I just- I have something important to tell you," and, like that, Jay proceeded to tell you the worst thing you ever heard. It's not like you'd been planning on becoming a mother or anything like that anytime soon but it was still a possibility that was brutally taken away… You and Jay cried together for the first time and, consoling each other, you felt your relationship growing stronger.
So much so that after some time you could start talking about the future that both of you foresaw with one another and, even though nothing was completely decided, there was one thing you knew for sure: as long as you were together, you could face anything.

"My daddy has to fight some bad guys". || Jay Halstead x reader and daughter
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Tumblr media
You woke up earlier than everybody in your house to get everything ready for everyone. Jay would usually follow you a few minutes later and you two would make breakfast and get your daughter ready for school together, along with other morning stuff. This wasn't the day, your husband had fallen asleep and you were doing everything by yourself, trying not to make a lot of noise. You knew he was working a tough case and had come back quite late from work the night before, so you didn't want to wake him up. Even when he didn't want to admit it, he was tired as hell and needed to rest.
You were in the kitchen starting to cook breakfast when you felt his arms hugging you from the back.
-"Did I wake you up?" You asked. -"I was trying not to".
-"I didn't feel you by my side and I couldn't fall asleep again". He answered into your ear and then kissed your neck as he continued talking. -"I'm sorry I haven't been around. We closed this case last night, what's left is a bunch of paperwork. My hope is to be back home early tonight and...". You turned around to hug him back and interrupted him with a short kiss. He rushed to finish his sentence with a heavy breathing : "...I can make it up for you", then proceeded to tenderly kiss your lips as he held you as tight as he could with one of his arms, while fervently holding your head with his other hand, finger all tangled in your hair, pulling it a bit.
Due to the case Jay was working on, you two had barely seen each other during the last week and a half, so things were heating up fast. Suddenly, for both of your displeasure, an alarm interrupted the moment.
-"Time to wake her up". You said having trouble separating from him.
-"I'll go". Jay took your phone to turn off the alarm. -"I'm driving her to school too".
-"Hey, Jay!" You took his hand before letting him leave the room. -"You do remember her Father's Day Festival, right?".
-"Next friday, 10:30, sure".
-"I was thinking...maybe you should talk to her and explain that...of course you will be there, but if you are not able to make it is due to your work".
-"But I will be there".
-"I know, I know, it's just...we never know when a case might pop up. Remember the Spring Festival?".
-"Oh. The bank robbery right before it...".
-"Yes, that's what I mean. That time was easy because I was there, but this time I won't...".
-"I will talk to her". He said after a few seconds of silence. -"But I'll be there, no matter what".
That day, Tessa and her class made a craft for their fathers. All the little kids were drawing in a small paper square that would become a keychain for Father's Day. Some of them were drawing hearts, others were doing stick figures. Tessa drew her dad carrying her over his shoulders and a bunch of hearts around. Her artwork was a little abstract, but understandable for a 5 year old.
-"All right". Ms. Luna said in a sweet voice. Tessa really loved her teacher. -"I am going to take your drawings and we will give them back to our dads as a key chain during the festival!".
-"My daddy said he will come, but he's working and if he doesn't show up it is because he has to fight some bad guys. Bad guys don't respect days or time". Tessa rushed to repeat what Jay tried to explain to her earlier in the morning when he was taking her to school.
-"It's ok". Her teacher laughed a bit. -"Sometimes parents can't make it and it's ok. That doesn't mean they don't want to or that they don't love us".
The class rehearsed the song they would sing at intervals throughout the rest of the day. Tessa never missed the opportunity to repeat the information going around her head: "My dad said he's coming, but if he's not here it means he's working" or "My daddy is fighting the bad guys and bad guys they don't respect days or time" or "He will be here, but if he's not here, that means he's on the streets. He makes Chicago safe". Her friends were amazed whenever she repeated those statements. She did understand what her father told her, but she didn't really comprehend.
The day was here. You dropped Tessa at school, she was all excited. Before she entered the building you reminded her: "If it happens that daddy is not here or he's late, remember he's fighting the bad guys".
Jay was already in the bullpen, everything was strangely calmed. He had talked with Voight about going out to Tessa's school and he gladly agreed.
-"Today is the day isn't it?" Hailey asked Jay as she entered the coffee room.
-"Yeah". He smirked. -"If nothing else intervenes".
-"Let's stay positive". She said remembering what had happened last Spring Festival.
It was 8:30, the day had just started when Trudy came upstairs with an urgent case.
-"That's just my luck". Jay said, rushing downstairs with his partner.
-"Let's try to make it quick". Hailey answered by putting on her coat.
At school, the kids were getting ready to go outside to start the festival. Parents were gathering outside of the building, waiting to get inside.
Students from all schools were lining up around the court. Their parents were supposed to meet them and be in front of their kid's group to hear them sing.
-"Is your dad here?" One of Tessa's friends asked.
-"I can't see him". She answered standing on tiptoe. -"But it's ok, it's because he had to fight the bad guys".
All the kids waved their fathers with excitement, some of them ran to hug them before starting the show. Jay didn't make it, but Tessa wasn't feeling bad about it...yet.
When the song finished, all the kids jumped into their fathers arms and gave them the craft they made in class as a gift for them. Tessa stood in her place, not being able to hold her tears. She was crying in silence, so between the noise and excitement around the little girl, nobody noticed her until a few minutes later. As soon as her teacher saw her, she ran towards her and hugged her tight.
-"It's ok, honey. It's ok. Your dad wanted to be here with you". She said in a very sweet and calmed voice. -"Remember he is fighting the bad guys, you said that before ''.
Some parents were moved watching the scene, but there was nothing they could do. Ms. Johnson, the school's principal, noticed the situation from afar and she joined as soon as she could. By only moving her lips, trying not to be heard, she asked Tessa's teacher if the little girl's father wasn't there. She shaked her head in disapproval when the teacher answered with a sorry face.
-"We can call your dad, Tess. That way you can hear his voice".
-"But, Ms. Johnson, he's fighting the bad guys". Ms. Luna intervened.
-"Oh!" She understood. -"Ok, but we can call him later, we'll tell him to come so you can give him your present. Would you like that?".
The little girl was an emotional mess, but agreed with her head, even though she wasn't really listening to what the adults were saying.
The emergency call for the intelligence team ended up in a shooting and that delayed detective Halstead. As soon as he finished with interviews and all the bureaucracy after this kind of situation, he ran off.
-"Go, go, go". Hailey rushed. -"I cover you".
Jay drove his truck as fast as he could, siren on. It wasn't a police emergency, but it was an emergency after all, he could deal with the consequences later. He parked in the first spot he found, even if it wasn't merely in front of the school and ran as fast as he could in a police mode to get to his baby girl. It was until he entered the building that he noticed he was still wearing the vest, gun and badge on his hip, but didn't care.
-"There he is!" Ms. Johnson pointed to Tessa's father.
-"Come on! Come on!" Ms. Luna took the little girl's hand and started running towards her dad.
-"I'm so sorry". Jay took Tessa in his arms and carried her holding her as tight as he could. She was too emotionally drained to react.
Kids around were already saying goodbye to their parents, going back to their classrooms.
-"We'll give you some time alone". Ms. Johnson informed Jay and he muttered a "thank you".
-"You can go back to the classroom when you feel ready". Ms. Luna told her student.
-"I hate the bad guys". Tessa managed to say when they were finally alone.
-"Me too". Her father said. -"I'm really, really sorry I didn't hear you sing, but I'm here right now". He wiped the tears from her cheeks.
-"I did it real good, you missed it". She said playing with the key chain in her hands.
-"I bet you did". Jay chuckled. -"What do you have there?".
-"It's a present for you. I made it for you". She extended her short arm to give it to her dad.
-"For me? Is it for my keys? I love it!"
-"It's you and me and lots of hearts. I drew it myself".
-"I can see that. It's beautiful. Thank you, sweetie". Jay's phone started ringing and he sighed when he read the text messages.
-"I have to go back to work".
-"But I don't want you to go". She started crying again.
Ms. Johnson came into the scene to help Tessa go back to her class" -"Daddy has to go back to work, sweetie. Ms. Luna and your friends are waiting for you, let's go". And she took her tenderly in her arms as her crying grew louder.
-"It's all right". Jay reassured her with a kiss. -"I love you. I'll see you at home, ok?". And she disappeared through the door.
He peeked through the classroom window to check on her before departing. He witnessed how Ms. Luna was successfully calming her down and felt a little bit more relaxed to go.
-"Thank you for coming". Ms. Johnson told him with a smile. -"For real".
With a heavy heart, he got into his truck and before turning it on, he hung the keychain in his keys. He inspected the tiny drawing and smiled before going back to the bullpen.
Thanks for reading. If you liked it, it would help my soul if you give it a ♡, comment or share. 😌♡

This case had been difficult for the team, Jay getting hit his hardest with his dad being one of the victims on the fire. The longer the chase for the arsonist, the more you could see him spiraling. You expected it, all things considered. Jay may have said they didn’t have the best relationship, but it was still his father. What you didn’t expect was for Jay to disobey a direct order from Voight and go after the suspect on his own.
After you took his truck and two way, you thought he would be safe, far away from the action. So when you heard his call come in over the radio, your heart sank to your stomach.
“This is 5021 George. Emergency. Shots fired. Offender down, need an ambo. Lower Wacker and Columbus.”
As soon as you heard his location, you took off running, Kevin close behind. Rounding the corner, you saw Jay unmoving on the pavement, his side covered in blood.
“5021 Victor. Officer down. I repeat, officer down. Lower Wacker and Columbus. Get us an ambulance!” You rushed to Jay’s side, leaving Kevin to take care of the offender.
You tried to stay calm as you ripped open his shirt, panic threatening to override your training. You could see he was bleeding from his side, but you couldn’t tell what the damage was from the other bullets.
“Jay? Hey, talk to me.” Your voice wavered.
Jay was breathing heavily, looking at you with wide eyes. You pulled his vest away from his body, feeling under it for the bullet.
“It didn’t go through. It didn’t go through.” You pressed on the wound at his side with shaky hands. “You’re gonna be okay. It’s okay. Just breathe.”
-
You watched intently as the paramedics patched up Jay in the back of the ambulance. There were officers all around you, blocking off the scene and questioning the other members of the team, but you tuned it all out.
Once the paramedics were done treating him and he had gotten a thorough scolding from Voight, you made your way over.
“Hey.” You took a seat next to him. “You gonna be okay?”
Jay looked at you sheepishly. “Yeah, I’m okay. No serious damage, just a few stitches and some major bruising.”
“Good.”
“I’m really sorry, Y/N. I just couldn’t stop myself.” He said quietly.
You nodded lightly, giving him a small smile and patting his leg gently. “I know.”
The paramedic came back over and you used the interruption to excuse yourself. You could feel the aftermath of the situation setting in and you needed to get away from the scene.
You heard footsteps behind you and Kevin appeared at your side. “Hey, you okay?”
“Yep, I’m good. I’m fine.” You replied, unable to keep the emotion out of your voice.
Kevin put a hand on your arm, slowing you down and turning you towards him. “Woah, woah.” You couldn’t stop the tears from welling up in your eyes as you met his gaze. “Yeah, that’s the adrenaline wearing off. It’s okay.”
“I thought he was dead.” You choked out the words.
Kevin put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close. “So did I.”
As the two of you made it back to the cars, he brought you in for a hug. You gripped his shirt tightly, embarrassed by your crying, but soaking in the comfort after the emotions of the past hour. You knew out of anyone, Kevin would never judge you for being human.
“I gotcha.” He rubbed your back comfortingly. “C’mon, Sarge said we’re done for the day. Jay’s in good hands. I’ll drive you home.”
You spared one last glance back towards Jay as you got into the car, only to find him looking right at you, his face etched with concern.

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You stretched as you climbed out of your car.
It had been a long day running around the city meeting clients and today was just one of those days when you wanted to put your feet up and not move any longer. You’d even regretted putting your make up on because that meant you had a longer shower process before you could finally stop for the night.
“You just getting in too?”
You turned around at the familiar voice, giving Jay Halstead a smile as you watched your best friend sidle up the driveway that the both of you shared, holding a pizza box in his hand.
You’d kind of known Jay all your life, even though you’d fallen out of touch somewhere in between. But by some stroke of luck, you’d found a perfect little house within your budget only to realize that your new neighbor was that friend you’d never totally gotten out of your mind.
At first, you’d been a little worried that it would be awkward, but somehow you and Jay had jumped right back into being best friends, the six years you’d spent without contact almost seeming to fade into the background so much that you’d wondered if those six years had even happened.
Jay noticed your eyes shift down to what he was carrying and smiled. “You haven’t eaten, right?”
You didn’t answer him immediately. You kind of wanted to go right to bed but the temptation of food was a little too overwhelming.
“Can I feed Luna and get into sweats? Please?” You asked, turning your eyes back towards him.
Jay let out a tinkle of a laugh. “Get comfortable. I’ll wait.”
You were quick, sliding Luna her bowl of kibble as she wagged her tail and ate, before you let her out into the back garden while you quickly washed up. As your empty stomach egged you on, you cleaned Luna up, patting her head gently with a “I’ll be back soon” before heading next door to Jay’s.
Jay looked up as you let yourself in, pushing a glass of wine towards you as you slid yourself in the seat across from him.
“Long day?” Jay asked, helping himself to a slice as you took a sip from the glass.
“Don’t even get me started.” You said in a low voice, gently putting the glass back down.
There was a small silence before Jay looked up. “The kid called me today.”
You glanced up. “Dylan?”
Jay nodded, taking another bite. “I think he’s just worried about his sister.”
You nodded quietly. “I’d love nothing more than to get enough evidence to sue that asshole out of his entire fortune and then let you throw him behind bars. But you know these things take time.”
Jay had met Dylan Stevens during one of his cases. He hadn’t even been a person of interest, just a witness that had helped point the team in the right direction. But there’d been something about this kid that made Jay take a second look.
And Jay’s hunch was proven right when it finally got too much for Dylan’s older sister and she’d finally asked for help - her mentor and boss couldn’t keep his hands to himself.
Other than the fact that Leah desperately needed this job so that she could support both herself and Dylan, her boss was getting more aggressive and other than the anger that was always eating at her, she was also getting a little scared.
Cases like this ate at you. All you wanted was to throw the dickbag to the DA but a case like this was complicated. There were repercussions for going forward with a trial, and being embroiled into a he said-she said situation wouldn’t help Leah. But you’d promised her that you’d help her as best as you could and that you’d be with her, every step of the way.
You held back from releasing a sigh. “I’m trying.”
Jay nodded, leaning forward for your hand, squeezing. “I know.”
It was about two seconds later that he realized he was actually holding your hand. Jay cleared his throat pulling his hand back and you reached for your wine glass to take a sip, both of you trying your hardest to ignore the sudden awkwardness in the air.
You stole a glance at Jay who wasn’t looking in your direction, before you looked back at the clock. While the both of you had spoken at length about the Stevens, time seemed to fly by and you were hours behind your intended sleep schedule for today.
“I should go. I have another long day tomorrow.”
Jay nodded. “Leave it, I’ll take care of this.”
You shot your best friend a grateful smile before standing.
“Let me know if you need any help?” Jay asked as he walked you towards his front door.
You turned and smiled. “You know it.”
Jay leaned forward for a hug that felt a little more awkward than normal before you smiled and slipped out the door, shoving your feelings for Jay Halstead back into the small secret box tucked away in your heart.
Tumblr media
The next few days passed in a blur as you threw all your efforts into finding some form of evidence for Leah. So when you arrived at your driveway tonight, you were wiped. You hadn’t even dared to drive home, leaving your car in your regular parking lot and taking a cab from the front of your office building. You figured you could see if Jay could drop you off the next morning or you’d just call a cab again.
The fact that your door wasn’t locked or closed properly only registered after you’d stepped inside and you froze.
The moonlight streaming in through the windows illuminated the darkened interior of your house, where everything seemed to be turned upside down.
Your eyes raked the scene in front of you, where it looked like a tornado had literally ripped through your house and you took another step forward until you froze again.
The tip of the flats you had on grazed the edge of what you were now looking down at - you could see the dark color of red even with just the sliver of moonlight, the viscous pool right at your feet that could only be blood like something right out of a horror show.
You could hear your ears start ringing, feel your breathing pick up, and somewhere in the trenches of your mind, the horrific memories that you’d tried so hard to pack away seemed to be spilling out, starting with the scream of a woman right in your mind.
And then a hand slid over your eyes, interrupting the hold that the pool of blood seemed to have on you for just a second, even though your lungs still felt like they were constricting. At the same time, an arm went around your shoulders.
The rational part of your brain was screaming at you to move but you seemed to be literally frozen, until you heard his voice. “It’s me. Keep your eyes closed.”
Your heart felt like it was pounding in your head and closing your eyes only made it harder to breathe because now the traumatic memories were playing like a reel in your head, as if it was happening in front of you all over again.
You felt Jay turn you around now. “Y/N, it’s okay.”
But it wasn’t. The memory seemed to have taken a hold on you, even though you could hear Jay’s voice, feel his warm hands on your shoulder.
“Y/N!”
Your eyes snapped back open.
“Breathe. Just look at me and breathe.” Jay said, his voice calm.
You took a short breath and Jay nodded. “Alright, just focus on me, okay?”
Jay studied you as he stood close to you, watching the expressions flash across your face. You’d started having panic attacks back when the both of you were still in school, after you’d walked in to your mother lying in a pool of her own blood. So this wasn’t the first time that Jay had been here for one of your panic attacks, far from it. Even so, you hadn’t had one since you and Jay had reconnected.
Your body shook a little and Jay reached forward and swept you into his arms, your breaths so shallow that it almost sounded like you were gasping for air.
“Just focus on me, alright?” Jay said quietly. You trained your eyes on him and nodded, looping your arms towards the back of his neck for balance before he turned heel and headed out your door and towards his place.
As gently as he could, Jay lowered you onto his couch now, his eyes not missing the beads of sweat that lined your forehead.
Your arms didn’t move from where they were locked around Jay’s neck, even though you felt your body make contact with Jay’s couch.
“Y/N, it’s okay. Shh, I got you.” Jay whispered, not trying to pull away but instead leaning in further to gather you deeper into his arms.
The action seemed to calm you, even just slightly, as your breathing regulated. Before it hit you again.
“Jay… Luna…”
Jay pulled back gently to look at you, nodding his head. “Will has her. He came to get her for the vet appointment this morning, remember?”
You nodded now, slightly calmer, your arms falling gently to your sides.
Jay cast another worried glance at you, but pulled a blanket over your legs. “I’ll be right back.”
Reflexively, your hand shot out, grabbing his. “Jay.”
“I’ll take care of it, alright? Try to get some rest. I’ll be right back.”
You gently let go of Jay’s hand and nodded. Jay gave you a small smile and after a small hesitation, leaned down and pressed his lips to the top of your head, before he headed out the way he’d come as if he hadn’t noticed your surprise at the action.
Tumblr media
“Jay, what happened?”
Jay glanced up as his older brother headed up towards him, Luna by his heel and shook his head. “She’s on my couch. Can you just check her out then put her in my bed and give her something to sleep it off.”
On any other occasion, Will wouldn’t have let Jay get away with a “put her in my bed” without some teasing or a raised eyebrow but his eyes swept across the police cars and crime scene vans before he nodded. “Luna’s gonna be in your place for a while then I guess?"
Jay just nodded. “Can you stay with Y/N?”
Will nodded, raising the bag he had in his hand. “I came prepared.”
Jay nodded his thanks, his eyes resting on his own house before he turned back around to your place and flipped a switch in his head to focus, heading towards Voight who’d just arrived.
Voight nodded at Jay. “We swept the place. The lock has obvious signs of being jimmied and they ransacked the place. There’s a pool of blood in there so the crime lab will take it back for testing but there’s no sign of where the blood came from. I think whoever did this brought it with them.”
Voight nodded quietly as Jay spoke before he looked back at his senior detective again like he was waiting for an explanation. “Sarge, she’s… she’s a good friend of mine. And it could be linked to a case we were working.”
Before either of them could say more, Hailey jogged right up towards them, glancing at her partner before she started speaking. “We’re pulling cam footage, and the crime scene guys have gone over the house twice. We’ve gotten all we can from the scene.”
Voight looked back at Jay. “Talk to her and see if there’s anything helpful she can provide for us. We’ll see you at the district tomorrow.”
Jay glanced up, knowing that Voight was giving him the night to look in on you and make sure you were okay.
Hailey nodded. “We got this, Jay.”
Jay nodded his thanks with a small smile before he turned and left, his eyes flicking towards your house just once more before entering his own place to check on you.
Tumblr media
Will was sitting on the couch when Jay walked in, Luna curled up on the floor at his feet.
Luna got to her feet as Jay walked in, wagging her tail as she greeted him and Jay bent down to pat Luna gently on the head like a habit, even though he was distracted.
Will glanced at his brother. “I gave her something to help her sleep but you should check on her.”
Jay nodded quietly. “Thanks.”
Will smiled. “I’m gonna crash. If you need me…”
Jay nodded, reaching out to flip off the main light in the hall for his brother. “Yeah, thanks Will.”
Quietly, Jay headed up towards his room, where there was just a small dim light still on. Your eyes were closed as you lay curled up in his sheets and Jay lowered himself quietly towards the floor as he reached out and pushed a section of hair off your face, his worried eyes grazing over you.
Your eyes fluttered open and Jay registered a sliver of alarm before you recognized him and he smiled, reaching down for your hand to squeeze. “You’re okay.”
You smiled. “Sorry about this.” You whispered, your voice low.
Jay shook his head with a smile, raising his hand to stroke the top of your head. “Get some rest, we’ll talk in the morning. Will and I are not going anywhere.”
You let out a small smile, which put Jay’s heart a little more at ease. “I get both Halstead brothers? No one has been safer.”
Jay exhaled gently, glad you were at least okay enough to start making jokes. At the same time, your hand curled reflexively around Jay’s.
“I’ll stay until you sleep.” He said, reading your mind in that weird little way he’d been doing for almost all your life.
You nodded, letting your eyelids droop closed again.
Tumblr media
When you opened your eyes to the sunlight streaming in through the small gap in the blinds across the windows, it took you a while to gather your bearings, your eyes slowly widening with alarm when you realized you were sleeping on an arm that wasn’t yours.
You glanced behind you as slowly as you could without jostling too much, even though you were pretty sure your heart was thumping loud enough to wake him. Deep down, you’d already known the quiet even breathing right behind you was Jay, one arm under you and another draped across your waist effectively putting you right in his embrace.
You wondered for just a second why you’d found yourself in this position before the memories hit you again, the fragmented memories of the night before hitting you like a punch in the gut - from what you’d found in your house, the panic attack, Jay offering to stay until you fell asleep and then the long night plagued by nightmares of screaming women or blood.
You remembered Jay pulling you out of each nightmare as gently as he could and maybe a vague feeling of Jay climbing in behind you.
Of course, that was probably why you’d finally been able to get some restful sleep. But now, you were embarrassed. Well, maybe mortified was a better word.
You felt Jay stiffen a little from where he was squeezed in behind you now and you realized he’d probably woken as well.
You knew someone had to move first so you shifted but instead of getting up, impulsively turned to face Jay.
Jay looked a little startled, like he was surprised and then confused.
“Hey.” Jay offered with a smile, taking your cue and not moving, one hand still draped under you. “You seemed like you were having some trouble sleeping last night, I didn’t mean to…”
You smiled. “Thank you.”
Jay’s smile widened a little like he was relieved but neither of you had moved yet.
“Jay, last night, I…”
Jay reached out to cup your face gently. “I’ll always be here. As long as you need… or want.”
Your eyebrows lifted slowly as you tried to read what Jay was trying to tell you.
“You will never lose me. I will always be right here beside you.” Jay whispered.
“Jay… you…”
Jay’s eyes moved across the expressions on your face like he was trying to figure out what was going on in your mind.
You didn’t know what to say, mainly because you really hadn’t expected to find yourself in this situation. Half of you wondered whether you weren’t really awake yet but all this was too real.
Sensing hesitation, Jay pulled backwards, both literally and figuratively. “Y/N, you don’t have to… I just wanted to…”
You didn’t know what to say so you snuggled just a little closer, reaching for his hand. “You can’t take it back, Jay.”
Jay paused for a bit and then smiled, before he moved closer towards you and when you didn’t move away, Jay pressed a gentle kiss on your lips. “Promise.” He whispered, as he pulled his lips away from yours.
“You ready?” He asked.
You weren’t, not really. You knew that when the both of you got up, you’d have to talk about what had happened in your house and you weren’t sure you were ready to relive it.
Jay reached for your hand and squeezed.
“I’ll be with you. All the way.”
That seemed to be enough to get you moving. Jay swung his legs out of his bed before stretching his hand out to you and you fit your hand into his, like it was meant to be there all along.
Tumblr media
Even if Will hadn’t already gone up to check on you in the middle of the night only to find the both of you huddled together in one bed, he didn’t need to be told that things had changed between the both of you.
He just smiled because if he didn’t know any better he would have thought last night had just one of those normal pizza and beer nights. Whatever, he was just relieved that you seemed to be doing okay, considering everything.
“I gotta get to Med, alright? You’re in good hands.” Will said, smirking.
“Shut up.” You growled, punching Will on the arm but leaning in as he gave you a hug.
Will ruffled your hair gently. “Call if you need me, alright? Although I doubt it.” He couldn’t resist another gentle tease.
You just smiled this time before Will headed out Jay’s door.
Jay gave you a smile as he handed you a cup of tea before sliding into the seat opposite you. “Let’s talk here and then we can go to the district, alright?”
You swallowed and nodded.
Jay reached over, putting his hand over yours and squeezing. “I’m right here.” He reminded.
You smiled, nodding once again.
You don’t know how long you and Jay sat there in his kitchen, going over the cases you were working on recently, or had recently wrapped up. The list wasn’t small, but at least it was exhaustive.
“Alright, come on. We’re going to the district.” Jay got up, swinging an arm around your shoulders before the both of you left the house, but not before you assured Luna you’d be back as soon as you could.
Tumblr media
“What do we have?” Jay asked as he closed the pantry door behind him where he’d left you.
Voight nodded and the team took turns speaking. Jay had sent the list of names ahead of them, so both Kevin and Kim had managed to get a preliminary look at them.
“Jay, any idea if we can narrow this down?” Kim asked, even though she kind of knew it was a long shot. “The perp doesn’t seem to be an expert at this, so we got an image to run facial recognition on.”
Voight glanced at Jay.
Jay paused for a moment, thinking. “There’s two people on that list I’d push to the top. Lucas Russell and Jake Lloyd.”
Kim nodded, heading for her computer as Jay turned towards Voight. “Remember that case we handled with the kid? Dylan Stevens’ sister later came in with the harassment accusation and Y/N took her on as a client. They’re smack in the middle of trying to get some evidence to prove their case against Russell.”
Jay paused before continuing. “Lloyd was one of Y/N’s clients but he was hopping mad that he didn’t manage to get full custody and made threats but that case wrapped up months ago. I figured we should look into these two first.”
From where he was standing at his desk, Adam put down the phone.
“That was the lab.” Adam said. “It’s pig’s blood, which is why there was nothing else but blood. They can get those at some butcher shops, I’ll get a list of places in the area.”
Voight nodded, as Adam and Kevin headed out to try the butchers they had on the list who would have and sell a large enough quantity of pig’s blood.
“I’ll scour the pods again to see if I can find anything new.” Kim said, heading back down as Hailey and Jay stayed at their desks and delved straight into both Russell and Lloyd. At least they were starting somewhere.
The monotony was only broken the few times that Jay had gotten up to go check on you. You’d reassure him that you were okay and that you couldn’t feel any safer than you felt now before Jay had thrown himself back into what he had to do.
No matter what, he was going to solve this crap.
Tumblr media
Despite his determination, they were still at pretty much a dead end. Facial recognition had come back with a hit but they still weren’t able to connect either Russell or Lloyd directly to the man who’d broken into your house.
Adam and Kevin had gone to pick him up immediately, but he wasn’t telling them anything useful and Jay was losing his patience.
“Go on home.” Voight warned, stepping out of his office. “Take her home.”
“Sarge…” Jay stood, ready to argue but Voight gave him a look.
Jay knew Voight well enough that considering Adam and Kevin’s progress, Voight was going to go into the interrogation room himself.
Jay glanced into the pantry where you’d dozed off on the couch before he looked back at his sergeant and nodded, giving in.
Stepping into the pantry quietly, Jay roused you as gently as he could. “Y/N.”
You jumped, your eyes snapping open. “Hey, it’s okay. It’s me.” Jay whispered. “Sorry.”
You blinked and then shook your head. “Sorry. What is it? Did you get someone?”
The look on Jay’s face told you everything you needed to know. You reached forward to take his hand and squeezed. “I’m okay.”
Jay gave you a small smile. “Come on, let’s go home.”
The word ‘home’ made you smile.
“We’ll grab some food on the way.” Jay said with a smile as he took your hand, the both of you heading out of the district.
Tumblr media
You’d had had a quick bite in Jay’s living room together before he’d curled up with you on his couch.
“You should get some sleep.” Jay said quietly, even though he didn’t seem to have any intention of letting you go, his arms still wound around you.
You smiled. “But I love it here.”
Jay let out a little chuckle, even though his mind was still racing through the information he’d gone through earlier. There had to be a connection he was missing.
Just as the thought formed in Jay’s mind, the power went off, the lights and television all shutting off at once.
Jay felt you stiffen in his arms as he sat up.
Jay reached for your hand. “Come here.” Jay reached for the drawer and pulled out his gun as you climbed off the couch as well.
Jay led you back towards the kitchen. “Stay low, stay hidden. Don’t come out until I come and get you.”
You didn’t let go of Jay’s hand.
“It could be nothing. Let’s just be cautious, alright? I’ll be right back.” Jay said quickly, pressing a kiss to the back of your hand.
A little unwillingly, you let go and nodded, crouching low behind the island counter that you’d sat at with Jay countless times for drinks.
You tried to focus on your breathing, focusing on the rhythm and making sure it wasn’t too loud. You’d breathe evenly and softly and just wait for Jay to come back and get you. Everything was going to be okay.
You’d counted to about 80 in your head when you heard the sound of shuffling footsteps.
A part of you hoped it was Jay but you also knew that if Jay was being careful, he wouldn’t walk like this. No way in hell.
The footsteps stopped and you glanced up, the terror gripping you as you looked up into the face of Lucas Russell.
Fuck.
Russell leaned forward and tugged you roughly upwards and out of where you’d been crouched. The scream was stuck in your throat but you needed to let Jay know someone else was here.
But even before you unstuck your own voice, Jay came out of nowhere, tackling Russell towards the ground.
The sudden lift in pressure from Russell's grip on you caused you to lose your balance and you tumbled onto your side, feeling the pain of crashing onto the floor resonate throughout your body.
“Get out of here. Now!” Jay yelled, as he wrestled with Russell, landing a punch across his face before Russell pushed Jay off him.
You didn’t have time to think, stumbling out of Russell’s reach.
But all you knew was that you couldn’t leave Jay behind. No matter what.
“Y/N!” Jay yelled, afraid you hadn’t heard him.
As if pushed out physically from your trance, you started moving but a crash from behind you made you turn.
“Jay!” You yelled, as your eyes registered Jay on the ground a little way away and trying to get to his feet.
Russell pulled out a knife, the blade glistened in the moonlight but before the fear could even register, you heard a chorus of voices that finally made you breathe.
“Chicago PD!”
You let Kim gently pull you towards her as Voight and Adam headed straight for Russell, Voight’s gun hovering dangerously nearer to Russell’s temple than normal as Adam forced him down to the ground to slap the handcuffs over his wrist.
Jay was already by your side. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” He demanded, his eyes roving across you.
You shook your head even though the tears were already gathering in your eyes and Jay pulled you gently into his arms. “Alright, I got you. I got you. It’s over.”
You shook gently even as you were wrapped in Jay’s arms and your legs finally gave way. You felt yourself sinking but Jay merely pulled you tighter against him, a protective hand wrapped around the back of your head. “I got you.”
Tumblr media
The team had filled you and Jay in once they’d brought Russell back in - the guy they’d arrested had finally cracked and given them the information they needed. Even so, they’d almost sped off to his house but not before Hailey had found a message on Russell's phone that hinted at him ending things tonight. So they’d detoured back to Jay’s.
Now, after things were mostly settled, you lay in Jay’s arms, the both of you squashed into his bed that had clearly been meant for one person.
“I shouldn’t have let you get pulled into this mess.” You whispered, your fingers gently tracing his face.
Jay shook his head. “I will always be between you and a threat. I promised and I’ll deliver.”
You scooted closer towards Jay and Jay laid a protective hand on the back of your head again. “It’s over.”
“You know what?” You asked him after a short silence.
Jay raised an eyebrow as he looked down to meet your eyes.
“At least there’s one good thing out of all of this.” You said quietly.
“What’s that?” Jay asked. You could hear the smile in his voice without even looking up.
You shifted. “I get to do this now.” You leaned up to press your lips to his.
Jay chuckled even as both your lips were still pressed together. “No arguments there.”

Giggling - Jay Halstead
Requested: yes

Tumblr media
“You smell real good, love" They say while nuzzling their nose in your shoulder and you start to laugh because it tickles so much but they won't stop doing that to make you all giggly”
Being with Jay was nice. It was safe. It was cozy. You felt truly loved. And every night you were reminded of how much you loved him. Sure he’d come home late sometimes but you were always there to accept him into bed with open arms.
And days where he wasn’t working, he would find you at some point throughout the day and shower you with his love and affection.
You were laying in bed, tired from the extra work you had put into your job yesterday, just trying to get your back to rest up a smidge.
Jay was on his side, eyes closed from the nap he’d been taking for a bit, and you sighed, deciding to flip onto your side and maybe catch some sleep too.
As soon as you rolled over, Jay looped his arm around you, pulling you to his chest. His breath tickled your neck as he hummed, “You smell really good baby,” He murmured, rubbing his face into your shoulder.
A laugh left your lips as his breath tickled across your skin. “Stop-“ You managed through a giggle, attempting to cover your neck with your shoulder.
He chuckled softly, nuzzling his face further into your neck, peppering kisses along with them,”Mmm, no,” Jay muttered, too distracted by the beauty of your laugh to stop himself.
“Jayy,” You dragged his name out, moving a hand to the side of his face to push him back, rolling over to face him with a wide smile still on your face. “Enough,” You added, firmly but with no actual malice or annoyance behind your words.
Jay popped his bottom lip out, sending you big green puppy eyes with the pout. Lightly you leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. “That’s for you to promise you won’t tickle me again.”
“I make no promises.”

Dispatched Love
Request: Reader had known Jay since she’d first started as a dispatcher for Chicago. It wasn’t long until she’d developed a crush on the older man. She didn’t say anything since she realized he was dating Erin but then she left. She left and Jay got kidnapped; reader heard it over the radio. Hank texted her to say they’d found him and she left her job without saying anything and sped to the hospital. When she saw the blonde detective in the waiting room they got into a fight and reader punched her. She refused to leave the hospital until Jay woke up and laid in bed with him the entire time. When he woke up, in the heat of the moment her lips were on his in a moment.
Pairings: Jay Halstead x Reader

When you moved back to Chicago you really didn't know anyone besides Hank Voight considering he was your uncle and he had raised you for most of your life. You had gone away for college and had just recently come back to Chicago.
You had been job hunting for a while but nothing had interested you or if you did find something they weren't hiring. You really wanted to be a 911 dispatcher but each time you tried to apply something always came up so you just gave up. Hank had come up to you one day saying he had a surprise for you and that he wanted you to come to supper and of course you accepted, you loved your uncle.
It was currently Thursday night when you went over to his house for supper. You drove over there and when you got into the driveway you parked and killed the engine. You got out and walked to the door and knocked and waited then the door finally opened.
"Hey! Come on in!" Hank said and you smiled and walked in.
"Hey, Uncle Hank." You said and hugged him and you returned it.
"I'm glad you could make it." He said as he let go of you.
"I was doing anything really. I was just thinking about opening a bottle of wine and sitting in front of the TV and ordering a pizza." You said and you watched his face fall.
"You know you're always welcome over here." He said and you nodded.
"Of course I do but I don't want to inconvenience you." You told him and he shook his head and you both began walking into the living room.
"Nonsense. Supper will be ready in 10 minutes." He said and you nodded. You both sat on the couch.
"You said that you had a surprise." You told him and he nodded.
"I got you a job at the 911 dispatch center." He said taking a drink of the beer that he had on the table.
"Wait. Seriously?" You asked with a look of shock on your face and you watched him nodded "How?" You asked.
"I know someone who owed me a favor." He said and you practically tackled him into a hug.
"Thank you." You said and he hugged you back.
"No need to thank me, kid. I know how much you wanted it." He said and then you both released each other. Dinner was ready and you both ate in a comfortable peace. You went home happy and grateful for an awesome uncle.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
When you weren't working you were hanging out at the police station and visiting your uncle. You had made fast friends with everyone in Intelligence including none other than Jay Halstead. You had developed feelings for him. He was always so nice to you when you came in and if you needed something while there he would get it for you. But he was with Erin Lindsay so you didn't pursue your feelings. What you didn't know was that he had feelings for you too.
"Hey, Y/N. How's it going?" Jay asked when you walked into the bullpen. You smiled at him.
"I'm good. Just been working." You said as you walked over to him.
"How's it going?" He asked truly interested and you loved that. He had been sitting on the edge of his desk.
"It's going well. I'm doing what I've always wanted to do." You said and he smiled but then Erin walked over and slung her arm over his shoulder.
"Hey, Y/N." She said and then turned and kissed Jay on the cheek.
"Hey, Erin." You said with a polite smile on your face.
You really didn't like Erin she gave off a vibe that just didn't sit well with you, even if she was part of your family. She would always pop into conversations and still him away even if it was just a simple friendly conversation. So you ended up steering clear of her and him and started to visit less often. You hated doing it but that didn't stop your feelings from forming.
"What are you doing here?" She asked turning to you.
"I was actually waiting for Uncle Hank." You said just being in her presence was awkward and not pleasant. "You know I actually need to go. I have work in a few hours. Jay, can you tell him I stopped by and I'll get into contact with him later?" You asked and Jay nodded and then you left saying bye to Trudy on the way out.
You didn't return to the station after that day so you didn't know what had happened. Your love for Jay still grew stronger. You met everyone at Molly's a few nights but you steered clear of Jay and Erin no matter how it hurt.
One day Jay had shown up to you as you were leaving work. This surprised you. "Jay, hi." You said a little confused.
"Hey, Erin left." Jay said and you didn't say anything but you wore a shocked expression.
"I'm sorry, Jay. I know how much it must hurt." You said and then pulled him into a hug which he returned.
"Thank you, Y/N." He said and you both talked for a while before you both left but not before exchanging numbers.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It had been months since Erin had left and you hoped she didn't come back. You and Jay had been texting but never met up due to working hours. You wanted to but never found the right time. Sometimes it would go on for weeks and sometimes it would stop and you understood. You both had demanding jobs.
You were at work when tragedy struck. You had taken a 911 call from a women. She claimed that she saw someone, a male, matching Jay's description and your heart dropped.
You had texted Hank but he said that he didn't know anything and he would let you know. It had been a few hours so when you took your break you had called him.
"Hey, have you heard anything?" You asked him and heard him sigh.
"I'm not supposed to be telling you this but we're close to finding him, we think. You have to believe that we will." Hank said and you closed your eyes.
"I believe you. I love you Uncle Hank." You said and opened your eyes.
"I love you too kid. Everyone including Erin is here helping." He said and your blood ran cold. You didn't say anything else just hung up the phone and got back to work.
You didn't contact him for weeks or even visit them. You couldn't you hated the thought of seeing her face.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Going into 3 weeks of Jay missing you had gotten a text from Hank.
Uncle Hank: We found him. We're going to med.
You just stared at your phone you couldn't believe it. You got up and grabbed your stuff and headed out of work. Your boss was going to stop you but they knew what was going on so they just let you go.
When you got to med you walked right into the waiting room to Hank. He saw you coming and he opened your arms and walked into them fully closing the hug. "Where did you find him?" You asked him and as you broke apart from the hug.
"We found him in a warehouse locked to a pole and he was beaten pretty badly. He's in surgery now." Hank had told you. All of Intelligence didn't care that you knew but that didn't sit well with Erin and it showed.
"Why are you telling her? She's not supposed to know anything." Erin said and you turned to look at her.
"I thought you left. Why are you back?" You asked her maybe a little bit rudely.
"I heard that he was kidnapped and I came back to help look." She said and you didn't quite believe her so you scoffed.
"If you cared for him so much then you wouldn't have left him. You broke his heat. Now all of a sudden you're back trying to win it?" You asked her and she had an offended look on her face but you didn't care. You didn't know when you had stepped closer to her but at some point you had.
"What? It's not like you're dating him or anything." She said and rolled her eyes.
"You're a bitch you know that." You said with a look of disgust on your face.
"What did you just call me?" She asked
"A bitch. I called you a bitch." You told her and the next thing you knew you were getting punched in the nose and it started bleeding. You stumbled back into Hank but what she didn't know was that when you get mad you go into fighting mode. You took one swing at her and she stumbled and into a wall. Before it could get any further Connor Rhodes came into the waiting room to say that he was out of surgery and only one person was allowed to be with them while he recovered, Everyone agreed that you should be the one, Erin was offended but you really didn't care.
When you walked to his room with Connor. He had stopped and checked you out and cleaned you up before continuing on. "Hey if any swelling occurs call me." He said and you nodded and then turned to him when you reached the door.
"Thank you, Connor." You said and he smiled and nodded. You walked into the room and waited.
Waiting can be a horrible thing at times. Waiting gave you time to think and those thoughts could be good or bad. Jay had been unconscious while you were there and you refused to leave his side. He had visitors come and Erin surprisingly didn't show her face. Hank visited often it was to check up on you and to see if any changes happened with him.
"Hey, Sweetheart. Any changes?" He asked and you shook your head and he sighed.
"Nothing new but that's a good thing. That just means that he isn't getting worse." You said and he nodded.
"You need to go home. You're probably missing a lot of work." He said and you shook your head.
"I had the next few days off since I work late nights. I'm not leaving him." You said and he nodded and left it at that.
"Text me if anything changes." He said and you nodded.
"You got it." You said never leaving your eyes off of him.
It took a total of 2 days for Jay to wake up. You had fallen asleep in a chair next to his bed. He groaned and started moving and that is what woke you up. You jumped up and before you knew it, your lips were on his. What you didn't expect was to from him to kiss you back. You only broke apart when you needed air. He looked at you suprised.
"I'm sorry. I just really wanted to do that. For awhile now. I should go." You rambled but he grabbed your hand and pulled you back and crashed his lips back onto yours, this time it was turn to be surprised but kissed back. You pulled apart again when air was needed.
"You don't know how long I've wanted to do that." He said and you smiled and you sat down.
"Really?" You asked and he nodded his head.
"Really. Y/N I fell in love with you when Hank first introduced the Intelligence group to you. Yea I was with Erin but we were already going out of the relationship." He said and you smiled.
"I've had a crush on you when Hank introduced me to you and then it slowly turned into love." You said and smiled.
"Well would you like to go out with me on a date?" He asked and you nodded your head.
"I would love that." You said and you both smiled at each other. You didn't know if you ever would love again but Jay Halstead just proved that you could. You loved each other and nothing was going to change that.

My Heart is Missing
Tumblr media
Jay Halstead X Reader
My Heart is Missing
A/N: This is based on the last couple of episodes where Jay left to go back to the army. I’m also gonna be real honest I haven’t seen much sense he left so I hope you all like it !
If you like my work please comment like and reblog it means a lot to see interactions on my work.
Y/N’S POV
You and Jay halstead where on earth do you even begin with the two of you. He was already in the unit when you started. Voight partnered the two of you up .
It was a match right away. The two of you hit off immediately, and everyone in the office saw it. You both were always joking and laughing.
You were also the person he trusted the most in the world. Whether it be late night locker rooms or at a old dive bar over a few drinks.
You never got tired of being with each other. It was like no matter how much time you spent with each other it was never enough.
The day he asked you to move in with him it wasn't even a second thought. I mean you two were already basically living together.
Then the day he took you to your favorite dive bar and it was all decorated with lots of directions you knew something was up.
He took your breath away when he got down on one knee. He looked up at you with those baby blues and your heart stopped beating
“Y/N the best day of my life was when I meant you and every day after that has been even more amazing. And everyday i ask myself how lucky am i that you choose me. Someone who you think deserves being with you. I don’t ever want to loose that so will you marry me” Jay asked
“Well it’s about time yes hell yeah” you said.
He got up and kissed you hard and you both had happy tears running down both of your faces.
The rest of the night was a huge party filled with laughter and love.
About a year had passed and you finally both got married. It was in Trudy's backyard. Filled with twinkle lights and flowers.
You were a simple dress and you felt beautiful. It was casual but something you both imagined it would be.
Antonio was the one who married you two. The night went surpisingly off without a hitch. You couldn’t help but sit back and wonder how the hell you got this blessed.
6 months sense then had passed and now it was like your world was completely flipped.
Jay had been distant these past couple of months. Work has been a lot dealing with everything going on. We didn’t know who we should trust anymore. Our relationship with Voight was always a rocky one but now it felt like it was getting a lot worse.
He was being really weird and trying to break the team up it felt like. In a time where we all needed to be united it felt like he was dividing us.
The team used to be so close now it felt like we barely even talked outside of work. It was also taking it toll on me and Jay. we used to tell each other everything now we barely talk.
When we come home we both just kind go our separate ways. Jay will watch a game on the TV and I go back to the room and watch TV.
We wouldn’t have our dates anymore or morning coffee together. The car rides in the morning were also weren’t even talking about us anymore.
Before everything happened we were talking about marriage and babies. We were so happy now it was like a empty shell was sitting in the bed.
You didn’t know what to do because you both knew you couldn’t go on like this. Something was going to break and you were so scared that it was going to be the two of you.
Jay had to be have thinking the same thing because lately things were extra different with. He was hiding phone calls and being secretive.
You knew he wasn’t cheating Jay would never he was way to good of a man. You wanted to ask but you were to afraid to ask him.
So you figured when he was ready he would come and talk to you about it. You were just worried on how long that was going to take.
Before he was a open book. He would always tell you everything down to what he would eat for lunch.
It was hurting that what ever was going on he didn’t think it was worth sharing. It made you feel like you weren’t even his partner anymore.
Right now you were currently laying in bed. Dreading the morning day. You barely gotten asleep and now you had to bring yourself to get up.
Jay was already up and moving around. You could hear him and the way with everything was going you wanted to try your best and avoid him.
It was a good thing that today you were both off. And even though  you were off you couldn’t make yourself go back to sleep. At this point there was no use.
You got your phone off the night stand and started scrolling through your stuff. You were scrolling for a while you didn’t realize how much time had truly passed.
When the door opened up and you almost broke your neck to see who was at the door.
Jay walked in and gave you a somber look on his face. It was hard to read what was going on and he looked like he was struggling to.
Before the two of you would be in bed right now cuddling and laughing and having a blast. Now the bed was cold next to you.
You struggled to on what to say trying to read the situation before breaking down. You missed the warmth of the broken man in front of you.
“Hey come sit wit me” you said pulling the covers back and creating a space for him in order to lay.
He walked over to you and kind of sat up straight. It was like you just meant the man he was being so distant.
You reached over and touched him and pulled him down so he was laying next to you.
You both just kind of looked at each other for a moment. No one was saying anything which was really nice at that moment just enjoying each other company.
“Hey” you both said at the same time making you both laugh
God you missed his laugh.
“You go” You said smiling at him
“I need to talk to you” He said
Your heart sunk into it’s chest and you felt like you couldn’t breathe.
“What’s going on” You asked swallowing the lump in your throat.
“I’m leaving” was all you said
You could feel the tears following down your face and he reached over and grabbed your face and wiped the tears off.
“Why i mean I know things were bad but I was holding out hope” You chocked out.
You couldn’t even see everything was blurry from the tears.
“God no hey look at me” Jay said
You looked at him and he had a sad look on his face.
“Hey not you i am not leaving you I am re enlisting i’m going to Bolivia” He said
You sat up and was leaning against the headboard. You took your hand and wiped your face so you could see properly.
“Why would you re enlist” You ask
“Because I don’t like the person I am becoming in the unit things have changed and i don’t wanna be that cop and look at us we haven’t been okay and I want us to I love you” Jay said
“So what you think leaving will help” You asked in a rhetorical voice
Jays head just kind of dropped before he spoke up.
“Yes I do I love you more than anyone or anything in the world and if I stay in the unit I’m gonna get worse were gonna get worse we need to do something and this way I can help people and know who the bad guys are” Jay said
You were struggling to understand how leaving would help wouldn’t you stay and want to fight.
“I don’t understand” was all you said.
“Look baby I love you I do and i’m not leaving right away like 2 weeks okay. I was gonna ask you should take some time off of work” Jay said
“We could go away for a little bit before me and you and go to greece like we always talked about” Jay said.
“Yeah that sounds amazing we both could use it” You smiled.
“Why didn’t you talk to me about it thought before deciding to just go” You asked
“Because you would try and stop me and if you did I didn’t know if I would have the strength to leave” Jay said
“You are my heart Jay halstead and I support you always and honestly if this is what you need” You said.
“It is and when i come back when my tour is over we can re group you know. Talk about a family and a life okay I’m just helping out a friend this isn’t forever” Jay said.
“Okay yeah just for a little bit” You said
“Just for a little bit” Jay said.
After Jay laid down and he pulled you close to him. Your head was on his chest and you could feel your heart beating.
The two of you haven’t been this connected in a while. But for once in a while you finally felt lie some hope was coming back.
This wasn’t going to be end this was just the beginning. A new chapter was closing and the other one was opening back up.
You did need the time off first thing in the morning you were taking off you and Jay were always going to go on the dream vacation.
Maybe it was what you needed to re spark everything.  And as hard it was to let Jay go you know you needed to.
All you knew while he was gone your heart was going to be Missing.

Jay Halstead X Wife!Reader Warnings: None? Similar to how Hailey was when Jay left Word Count: 741
You were praying the pain in your heart would stop. That all the hurt you had been through was just a horrible nightmare. But it wasn’t. It was your reality, and you couldn’t just leave it. Piece by piece you could feel yourself shutting down, your walls building high. And for the first Jay wasn’t there to put you back together.
The case you were working on kept getting worse and worse. Following lead after lead, looking into case after case trying to see if there was anything that could get you any closer to solving and closing the case. This was the first case after Jay left, and they could tell you needed him.
Hailey was the first to realize you were struggling. Offering you someone to talk to, but you didn't want to put anymore onto her. Torres was next, not ging you a choice but to talk. He got you a coffee when you were out chasing leads, and you broke down when he asked if you were okay. He told you that it was okay and he was there if you needed him. Kevin and Kim followed soon after that, then Adam. All trying to offer support. Hank and Trudy tried convincing you to sit this one out, but you couldn't. This was your job, and you needed to do it. You also needed the distraction.
But no matter how hard you tried the loneliness crept in whenever you were alone. His absence in your bed, the one you shared. The smell of his cologne fading from your apartment. Your ring only a reminder that he wasn't there with you. Everything was different without him. Every routine changed.  It was like you were back before you and Jay got together. Except this time he was still yours. You hoped at least.
You hadn’t heard from him since he left. No phone call, or letter. It was radio silence. You knew contact would be scarce, but this felt like overkill. You missed your husband but there was nothing you could do to bring him back.
~
After weeks Intelligence was able to solve the case. You had the next few days off. You stayed in bed sobbing. Finally able to fall apart. You were allowed to be upset, but it felt like you should be happy. Happy Jay was doing something good. But you hated it.  Why didn’t he talk to you? Tell you what he was going through? That he was going back into the military? He felt hurt when Mouse reenlisted, why would he keep that from you? You would have supported him, you just wanted him to tell you what he was going through.
After spending all day in bed crying your throat was raw from the sobs. You made your easy to the kitchen, grabbing whiskey. And while it wouldn't soothe the pain in your throat, it would help distract you, even for a short time. It burned going down, but the burn preoccupied your brain for a minute.
You didn’t have a lot, just enough for a light buzz. Deciding that you needed to try calling Jay you grabbed your phone. You knew he wouldn't pick up the phone, and that your buzz was pushing you to do this. But you did it anyway.
The phone rang until you got his voicemail.
“Hey it's Jay, I missed your call but leave a message and I’ll call you back”
Your voice cracked as you began to speak. “Hey, Jay…It's me. I miss you. I know you are probably busy, but I wish I could hear your voice.” your voice cracked more as you spoke. Tears started falling as you continued. “I’m not doing great with you gone. I keep expecting to wake up and you be next to me in bed. That when I walk upstairs at the station you will be talking to the team from behind your desk. But every day I wake up and that doesn't happen.” You whipped the tears that were falling from your eyes.
“It shouldn't be this hard. I miss you and my world has gone dark without your light. I wish you would come home. But I know that’s not fair to ask, or say. But I need you. I love you, Jay. I wish you would talk to me. Goodbye.” You ended the voicemail and started to sob. Hoping he would come back to you soon.

Baby - Jay Halstead
Tumblr media
Working together and being together can some times be very difficult. You and your long time boyfriend, Jay Halstead, are working together in the Intelligence unit. Right now you got a call about a shooting. Turns out, that shooting happened in Jay’s CI appartement.
Walking up to the apartment of Jay his CI, you could already hear a baby crying. The both of you share look before pulling out your guns and making your way to the apartment. You slowly walk forward as Jay checks the room on the left of you.
“Clear,” he says and you both walk forward. There is blood all over the walls. The floor is covered in it as well. Walking into the living room, you see two bodies lying on the ground, both covered in blood. The baby is in a crib watching how the two people are dead. You quickly put your gun back in your holster before you reach for the baby and pick it up.
“Ssshh, you’re okay,” you say with a quiet voice as you bounce the baby up and down.
“It’s they daughter…” Jay says. He checks for a pulse on the victims, but they are both gone.
You pull the baby closer to you, trying to calm her down. Jay in the meantime makes a call to the rest of the team.
“How could this have happened? Why kill the parens and leave the baby alive?”
Jay shrugs his shoulders. “She does have some blood on her arm.” Jay steps closer to you and the baby and looks at her arm. “There is no cut or anything. Let DCFS know that they should go to med, just to be sure.”
You nodded, leaving your partner at the scene while you go give the baby to DCFS. They just arrive as you walk out of the apartment building. The baby has finally stopped crying and has even put her head against your neck.
“DCFS?” you double check.
“Yeah. Is she okay?”
“She looks okay, but let med check her out just to be sure.”
The DCFS lady reaches out for the baby, but as soon as she puts hands on her, the baby starts to cry again.
“It’s okay, you’re okay,” you say as you start bouncing her again.
“Can you tell me what happened?” The lady asks.
“Parents were murdered. Baby probably saw the whole thing. She was crying when we arrived.”
“And she stopped after you picked her up?”
You nodded. “It took a few minutes, but then she calmed down.”
The DCFS lady nodded. “Let’s try again. Even is she is crying, just give her to me, and walk away. We’ll go from there.”
“Okay.” You hand the lady the baby, and it Starts crying and screaming. You take a few steps back, but the baby isn’t calming down. It’s turning around and reaching towards you.
The DCFS lady walks back to you and hands you the baby back. “It’s a response. Older children have it as well. After a traumatic fact, the person that finds them, is the person they connect with. It’s probably the same with this baby. Look, I have a lot more to do today and a crying baby is the last thing I want. Can you take care of her for now? It’s in the best interest for the baby.”
Shocked you look at the lady. How can she say this? “Let me check it with my sergeant.”
You grab your radio. “Sarge. DCFS is here about the baby. They tried to take the baby and it started throwing a fit. Something about the trauma. Short story, can I take care of her today? DCFS said it was okay.”
“Get her checked out at Med, then meet us back in the district. We’ll go from there.”
“Copy you.”
The DCFS lady hands you a car seat and her card and then she is off.
You look at the baby. “Let’s go to Med then.” You walk towards your car and put he car seat in. Right as you shut the door, Jay comes rushing towards you.
“Voight told me to come with you.”
“Awh, I thought I could finally drive,” you pout. “I’ll get in the back seat with the baby. Do you know her name?”
“I have no idea.”
Both of you get in the car and Jay drives to Med.
After getting the baby checked out at Med and you got some supplies from the hospital, you went back to the distract. The baby is sound asleep now.
“You’re so good with kids,” Jay whispers as you get the baby out of the car.
“It makes you think, huh?” You ask as you wiggle your eyebrows.
“We never had that conversation… you want kids?”
“I think so. You?”
“Me too. It would be fun to have a little you running around?”
“Or a mini you,” you smile at Jay. Both of you make it upstairs. You put the baby down in the kitchen, before you go meet Voight in his office.
“How is the baby doing?”
“She is sleeping right now, but as DCFS said, she has a trauma response, probably. It’s hard to tell with a baby. They checked her out at Med and she is okay. We don’t know her name, but she is asleep now. I also got some emergency stuff from the hospital. Look sarge-.” You got cut off by the door flying open.
Jay walks in with the crying baby. “She just woke up. I tried to stop her from crying, but it’s not working.”
“I got her,” you say as you reach out your hands. You grab the baby and immediately she calms down.
“I see what you were trying to say,” Voight says.
“Doctor Charles said that it has something to do with smell. The baby recognizes Y/N’s smell and she knows that she is safe,” Jay says.
“DCFS said it was okay for you to take care of this baby?”
You nod. “Even the hospital singed a form, so right now I’m her guardian.”
Voight looks at Jay. “What about you?”
“Oh, I’m fine with this. It’s the best for the baby.”
“Okay good. You two can go, figure out whatever it is that you need to, like baby stuff and all that. Keep your phones on in case we need you.”
After a shopping trip at Target, you found everything that you needed. You are wearing the baby in a baby carrier, while Jay is putting the crib together.
“I did think this would happen in another order,” Jay says.
“Me too, but I’m not too mad about it.” You look at the sleeping baby and can’t help but smile.
“We need to think of a name, though. We can’t keep calling her baby.” Jay stands up from the ground and looks at the crib with a proud smile.
“I love it. But how do you name a kid? Like just pick a random name that we like?”
“Yeah. Her mom was called Anya and her dad Michael, maybe that helps.”
“I always loved to name Mia, it could stand for both her parents name.”
“I like it.” Jay walks over to you and peaks at the sleeping baby. “Too late to have the baby conversation now,” he says with a slight smile.
“Yeah, pretty much.” You both laugh, but quickly stop as you hear the baby, Mia, making a noice.
“She’s lucky that you found her,” Jay says and kisses the side of your head.
“She very lucky to have you too.”

Jay Halstead
Not today
Summary: You were partners long before Hailey was. It didn't help that you were in love with him
Not like I used to part 2
Summary: Finally you were able to move on
Out of love with you
Summary: He wasn’t even sure when it happened or more importantly, how. Like everything else it was slow at first, not noticeable by even the most trained eye, but eventually anyone within a twenty foot radius could tell he wasn’t even close to being in love with you.
Connor rhodes
My Love
Summary: If one thing about life was guaranteed, it's that absolutely nothing about life is guaranteed. Waking up, going to work, coming home at the end of the day, none of it was promised.

“Halstead, third time in a month, that’s a record even for you.”
An amused expression appeared on your face as you entered the room of the patient you were supposed to see, who turned out to be no one other than Jay Halstead. He was lying on the bed, his back resting on the raised headboard and a bored expression on his face which however disappeared as soon as he saw you enter.
“Oh yeah I couldn't wait to see you, Dr. Sunshine,” he replied, letting his eyes wander unscrupulously along your uniform-covered figure, before returning them to your face and giving you a full on smile.
This was a nickname Jay had given you since the first moment you met and since then he had never stopped calling you that. In fact, since that day he had noticed how you always had a smile on your lips, constantly, how nothing seemed to disturb you. You always had a happy and serene expression on your face and this was one of the things that most attracted him from the beginning.
The two of you had met some time ago when Jay had arrived at Med's to question a suspect who he had injured during a chase and who you had taken into care.
He remembered how impressed he was with you when he first saw you, he couldn't deny you were a beautiful woman. But it was the marked humor with which you addressed him and your sharp but nice jokes that truly mesmerized him. While you two talked in front of that helpless patient who did nothing but bring his eyes between you and the detective, Jay found himself being attracted more and more to you, feeling the ever-increasing desire to get to know you better.
After that exchange in front of the patient, you left Jay talking to the suspect and walked out of the room, winking at him before closing the door behind you and leaving Jay standing there looking like an idiot.
Needless to say, as soon as he finished questioning the suspect, he immediately turned to his brother with the aim of asking for information about you. He didn't know why but he wanted to know everything he could about you. He had looked for you so he could have the opportunity to talk to you again but you were already with another patient.
From that day you had never left Jay's mind or his thoughts.
He found himself going to Med's every time for all sorts of reasons, most of which involved having to say something to his brother who couldn't help but make fun of the detective. You obviously weren't stupid and there was no shortage of your comments regarding the fact there was a very different reason behind those visits to which Jay responded with some mischievous joke that made you blush from head to toe.
However, there was no shortage of visits either due to some injuries Jay got due to his job but that didn't stop him from shamelessly flirting with you even if he was on a hospital bed.
He loved this relationship that had been created between you, the flirting, teasing each other, and every opportunity was perfect to see you but he wanted more. He struggled to admit it to himself but he had a huge crush on you and the fact he couldn't read you and know what you were thinking was driving him crazy. He was getting tired of looking at you from afar, of hiding behind the flirty jokes, he wanted you.
You giggled and looked at him for a moment as you quickly examined his body for injuries. Or at least that's what you convinced yourself of. You were pretty good at hiding your feelings because to say that damn detective gave you goosebumps and set every cell in your body on fire was an understatement.
You sanitized your hands and put on a pair of clean gloves before approaching him, his eyes never leaving yours and just the way he looked at you made you shiver from head to toe and your knees tremble.
Focus Y/n, he’s a patient now.
“What did you do this time?” You asked and he rolled his eyes playfully.
“You're no fun dammit, always straight to the point.”
“You know me Halstead,” you replied. “So?”.
He shrugged nonchalantly. “Just a little cut while chasing a suspect, no big deal.”
Your gaze fell on his abdomen, at the level of his left side where you noticed a copious stain of blood. “Well let me be the judge since I’m the doctor. Lift your shirt up.”
His lips lifted into a mischievous grin and you rolled your eyes knowing where his mind had immediately gone. “If you want to undress me just say so Dr. Sunshine, there's no need for these excuses.”
He took off his shirt and you tried with every fiber of your being to try to maintain a composed and professional expression, trying not to look his abs and not to focus on the heat that was spreading through your body.
You swallowed the lump in your throat but you couldn't help but admire that Greek God laying in front of you. “You didn't need to take off your shirt Halstead.” You said in an amused tone before pulling up a chair and sitting next to the bed.
“Well, you know I'm a self-centered bastard,” he retorted and you rolled your eyes again as you began to examine the wound. “Plus I love the way you’re struggling not to jump on me right now.”
You flicked your gaze into his eyes, not responding but maintaining eye contact as he looked at you as if he wanted to undress you right then and there. The heat spreading through your body intensified and rose to your cheeks and you struggled to say anything because, damn, he was just telling the truth.
“J-just, let me do my job Halstead,” you murmured and cursed yourself for the way you stuttered. You looked away and back to his wound and he chuckled, probably aware of the effect it had on you.
You examined his wound. It was a stab wound and luckily it wasn't very deep so it only required a bit of disinfection and a couple of stitches. You took what you needed and sat next to Jay again, who continued to watch and examine your movements with meticulous attention.
“I'll numb the area so I can stitch you,” you said in a firm, professional tone of voice but refusing to look at him. You couldn't do it, not when his eyes were enough to make you a babbling mess.
You tried to maintain all the concentration you possessed, failing miserably as Jay was laying there in front of you with his shirt off.
You couldn't help but let your gaze travel down his abdomen, along his hips, the V-line disappearing into his boxers you so much wanted to trace with your tongue, the line of his underwear that slightly protruded from his pants.
He was so fucking hot and you were about to be burned.
Your breathing quickened even though you tried to keep yourself composed but this didn't escape Jay, who didn't take his eyes off you for even a second.
He carefully scanned your profile and features, the way your eyelids and eyelashes fluttered, the way your cheeks were flushed and he knew it was because of him, the way you were trying to avoid him even if you were attracted to him like a magnet.
“You're so beautiful Y/n, you know that?” he murmured before he could stop himself.
You almost dropped the pliers you were holding, taken aback by his words. You giggled, keeping your expression as neutral as possible even though that short and simple phrase had thrown you into a whirlwind of overwhelming emotions and sensations.
“And you know I’m your doctor right?”.
“Mmh just for now,” he replied “As soon as you're done you won't be anymore.”
“You're actually one of my most loyal patients.” You gave him an amused look, a smirk on your lips as you continued to stitch his wound. “Like I said, you're breaking every record so no, you can't make those comments it's very unethical of you.”
There was nothing ethical about Jay's sinful thoughts about you, but he didn't let them out at the time.
He laughed, never taking his eyes off you. “Since we see each other so often we’re more than just doctor/patient now, I’d say I have every right to tell you’re beautiful.”
“Stop it.” You gave him a fake disappointed look even if you were internally giggling like a little girl. “Am I hurting you? You feel anything?” You also asked but the smug expression on his face and the smirk on his lips had given you the answer you needed.
He shook his head. “Come to a date with me.”
Your heart started beating wildly, more than it already was since the first moment you say Jay laying on that bed. “Is this a question or an order?”.
“You want to tell me no?”.
“Jay, I need to focus.”
“That's not a no though, so I have some hope.”
You laughed, at the tenacity and cheekiness he was showing and to mask the nervousness you were feeling, God, you didn't know how long you could last before giving in.
After about ten minutes you finished suturing his wound and placed gauze over it, recommending him to disinfect it and change the gauze at least twice a day even though he did nothing but flirt with you.
You stood up and removed your gloves before throwing them into the bin along with the dirty gauze you had used earlier and disinfected your hands.
You glanced at Jay, noticing he had sat up in bed, still wonderfully bare-chested. For the second time you found yourself running your eyes over his frame, his broad shoulders, his muscular arms and toned chest.
That man oozed sex from every pore of his body and you no longer knew what to do to resist him.
“Why are you this far? I don't bite, you know.” He said with a wicked smile on his lips, not even trying to mask the way he was eye-fucking you.
You rolled your eyes for the thousand time and crossed your arms over your chest, remaining firm in your position even if with difficulty. You felt as if there was some kind of force pushing you towards him and as the minutes passed you were less and less able to fight it.
“Don't you have to go back to work?”.
“Not until you give me an answer.”
“About what?”.
“About the date.”
“You didn’t ask me though.”
“Well will come to a date with me?”.
You tried to suppress a chuckle but didn't answer, keep losing yourself in those two emeralds that were his eyes.
You didn't have to hesitate like that, you didn't even have to think about it. You were a doctor, he was your patient and there was nothing more immoral.
But then why didn't you say no? Why were you actually thinking about that?
Jay stood up and walked over you noticing your silence, standing a step away from you.
Still shirtless.
God please have some mercy on me.
You raised your head slightly so you could look in his eyes given your height difference, the words dying in your throat every time you tried to say something.
It was undeniable there was an attraction between you two that in one way or another always pushed you towards each other. It was undeniable that man made you feel things you hadn't felt in a long time.
You didn't know what he had done to you, what kind of witchcraft he had practiced on you since there had never even been anything between you. Sure, you flirted with him too, he shamelessly hit on you and sometimes you didn't even know if he was serious or just because of the way your relationship had turned, but you couldn't get him out of your mind.
“You're thinking about it, aren't you? I know you want it,” he whispered, lifting a hand and stroking your hair, moving a strand behind your ear as his eyes continued to admire and analyze every little feature of your face.
You let your arms drop to your sides, dumbfounded as his fingers caressed your skin so lightly his touch seemed unnoticeable. But you felt it all, you felt his touch in every corner of your body.
Your breathing quickened as your eyes alternated between his and his mouth, without even being able to stop yourself.
“We can't,” you whispered back.
“Why not? We both want it, I know it and you know it too.” He wet his lips with his tongue. “And the way you're looking at me now, fuck… I'm fighting every fiber of my body not to throw you on this bed and have my way with you. You can't deny it Y/n, you can’t deny what's going on between us.”
Before you knew it, your hands were resting on his chest, his skin hot under your fingers and his breathing visibly quickening under your touch. “And who tells me it's not just the thrill of conquest? That once I say yes you won't just disappear?”.
His hands cupped your face, his lips so close to yours they kept brushing each other. “I’m planning to do so many things to you that a lifetime won't be enough Y/n, you're not just a conquest. I want you.”
His thumb traced the outline of your bottom lip and your breath hitched, almost making you pass out at his feet.
God Jay what are you doing to me?
“You really think every time I'm here it's to see Will? Don't get me wrong, I love my brother but do you seriously think I'm here almost every day just to see him? Do you seriously think I would randomly find myself at Molly's every night whenever you're there? Do you think I’d let myself get stabbed just to have another excuse to come here and see you?”.
You pulled away from him, hitting him in the chest in disbelief. “Are you out of your goddamn mind?! I hope you're kidding.”
“Do you see me laughing? I'm not fucking kidding. I could’ve easily overpower that piece of shit but you got into my head so much that at that moment I just thought I had the perfect excuse to see you and be close to you. That's how fucking insane you make me Y/n. Please just give me a chance, I want you so bad,” he spoke, not caring about how desperate he sounded.
Now that he had said it out loud he realized how crazy he really was. But did he care? Absolutely not. He just wanted you to accept to go to that date.
“And it's not just wanting to have sex with you. I mean, God yes, you turn me one so much I would fuck you on every floor and surface of this hospital… But I want everything, I want to know every single part of you, the good and the bad, I want you to be mine, I want you to know me and I want to be yours.”
You sighed in frustration, the temperature of the room rising a degree with each passing second. How were you supposed to push him away?
“Tell me you don't want me and I'm leaving right now and you'll never hear from me again. Tell me you don't feel like this thing between us is consuming you too... Tell me,” he continued, brushing his nose with yours.
“You're so unprofessional Jay,” you whispered, trying so hard to fight the urge to give in but, fuck, you didn't think it would be this hard.
“Yeah so unprofessional. Now answer me.”
You sighed. “Jay I…”
“God you're so stubborn Dr. Sunshine, you really want to torture me until the end? Have mercy on me at least now that I'm… Shit,” he stopped, holding his side where he had been stabbed and letting out a cry of pain.
“Jay! Hey, what's going on? Talk to me please.”
“Fuck it hurts.”
“Here, let me help you. Sit down so I can take another look at you. Everything will be fine.”
You helped him sit on the edge of the bed, worried and thinking of every possible scenario imaginable like an internal bleeding.
But when he instead surrounded your hips under your white coat and pulled you towards him, making you settle between his legs, you understood that asshole was just faking it.
“You piece of shit! You've got me worried sick!” You exclaimed, hitting his shoulder harder this time. You tried to pull away from him but his grip was too tight around your waist.
He laughed, a cocky look on his face that only made you want to punch him. “Look at you so worried about me. Just as I thought.”
“You thought about what? That you’re an asshole?”.
“Yes I am,” he replied amused, “But also that all this facade you want to put up, all this resistance is fake. That you want me as much as I want you, so why do you keep fighting it so much?”.
“Because it’s unprofessional, I'm a doctor and you're my patient. We can't.”
“Of course we can.” His hands tightened around your waist, moving up your hips, distracting you and making you forget what you even wanted to say. “Like I said. Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t want me.”
You didn't answer, again.
You just looked at him and melted under his touch.
You didn't know what happened, it was like a switch had been turned on inside you.
All your rational thoughts and abilities left your mind as you grabbed his face and crashed your lips onto his.
You didn't want to resist anymore, especially since you weren’t strong enough. Let's be honest, it was a battle you already lost from the start.
You didn't want to live in fear of what might happen, hide behind the hypocrisy of 'unprofessionalism' because the truth was that you wanted that man more than anyone you had ever met in your life. The truth was, you couldn't look him in the eyes and tell him you didn't want him when just hearing his name made your heart beat wildly and your body lit up on fire.
Jay kissed you back, not even being able to explain how ardently and for how long he wanted that moment.
You parted your lips slightly and he immediately took the opportunity to slip his tongue in your mouth, deepening the kiss which was becoming more and more passionate, borderline pornographic.
His hands rested on your stomach and moved up your abdomen, grazing your breasts before settling on your shoulders. He hesitated and you nodded during the kiss, giving him permission to take off your white coat which fell to the floor next to your feet.
His hands then trailed down back to your ass which he squeezed and groped without any shame as you threaded your fingers through his hair, sighing into his mouth at the sensation.
If at first there was a thread of doubt that left you perplexed, after finally feeling his lips against yours, their taste, you knew there would never be a return from that point. You were deeply and inexorably lost for Jay Halstead.
Your heart was pounding as your body continued to press against his, as if you were both trying to suck out each other's souls.
You bit his lower lip and a small moan escaped him which immediately made you press your legs to each other, your insides twist and goosebumps on your skin. He slapped your ass in response, a gesture that turned you on more than you would ever admit.
“Fuck,” you whimpered, pulling him towards you.
“I'll take this as a yes?” He whispered the moment you both broke apart panting as you tried to catch your breath.
He slid his hands down your back, up your ass, your thighs, touching and caressing every inch of your body he could reach.
“What do you think?” You replied, one eyebrow raised.
“I can't even think right now to be honest, all the blood has rushed to my dick. It actually hurts a little, can you kiss it better?”.
“You’d really love it wouldn’t you?”.
“Oh you have no idea how many times I’ve imagined you kissing me better, especially my dick. This mouth of yours is haunting me princess.”
You chuckled – not mentioning how bad you wanted to do it – and he smiled back, feeling lighter, happier.
“Is tomorrow night okay?”.
“Tomorrow night? Are you kidding me? You really think I can last until tomorrow especially after you kissed me like that? No, there’s no chance. I want to see you tonight.”
“Oh Halstead, remember that patience is the virtue of the strong,” You smirked at him, caressing his shoulders. “See you tomorrow night detective.”
You gave him one last sweet kiss on the lips and picked up your white coat from the floor, then straightening out your wrinkled uniform. You winked at him before exiting the room, leaving him sitting on the edge of that bed with an erection in his pants he knew he’d struggle to keep at bay for the next twenty-four hours.

Second Time Is the Charm
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Word count: 1,211
Warnings: None, just fluff.
Summary: Jay meets the Reader, Hailey's best friend, when she's meeting Molly's for the first time after having moved back to Chicago.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the One Chicago shows, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way, or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: Still not in my best writing but I hope you like it!
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)

"Hey, guys! This is my best friend, (y/n) (y/l/n), who I told you about! She just moved to the city a few weeks ago, so, be nice!" You heard your long-time friend, Hailey, warn her coworkers, who she always swore by to be some of the very best people in Chicago.
"Whatcha sayin', Detective Upton? I'm always nice!" a tall guy, who you recognized as being the one Hailey'd had a fling with some time ago, exclaimed, feigning offense.
They all are very sympathetic to you and you can see how they managed to get Hailey's friendship so easily. But there is one person who stands out from the rest of the group. And you just can't help yourself but to stare at the handsome guy who Hailey said is her partner. The famous Jay Halstead. You do know that it's impolite to basically ogle him like that but you. Just. Can't. Stop. He might just be the most beautiful man you've ever seen and that's saying a lot since you'd already lived in many places and had already met lots of hot guys.
Maybe you were dreaming or something but it seemed like he, too, was taking a few glances at you. But you must've been imagining 'cause he never made a single move your way — not that you were dealing any better with this sort of crush.
The hours ticked by faster than anyone there would've imagined with all the friendly chit-chat and the stories being told but, when you noticed the time, you decided it was time to go home, so you announced: "Hey, guys, thanks a lot for tonight! It was really nice meeting you all, I had a blast! But now I think I'mma head home."
"What? No! I can drive you there later," Adam started but you cut him off:
"No need for that, really. I live nearby and the walk home is gonna be good for me!"
"But going alone this time of night…" Kevin trailed off.
"Well I was thinking about heading home too and I'm also gonna walk. So maybe we can go together?" Jay asked, speaking directly to you for the first time in the whole night.
Not really knowing how to politely decline that one, you accepted: "Oh, um, okay, that'd be nice."
"It's really nice of yours to offer to walk me home, Jay. Thank you again." You said in an attempt to break the ice.
"Yeah, no problem. You know I like making myself available for the community!" He said with a wink? Was Hailey's partner seriously trying to flirt with you? "So, back at Molly's everyone explored a lot why you came back to Chicago but I wanna know what made you leave it in the first place, 'cause you went to college here, with Hailey, right?"
"Uh… yeah, we were roommates, actually. But I left for many reasons, the main one being a wish to see what the world had to offer. Which wasn't very hard since I can easily get a job pretty much anywhere I want…" You answered, leaving out the part about how your ex had humiliated you into leaving the city just to put as much distance between the two of you as possible.
"Hmmm, I see. But you said work had you moving back?"
"Yeah, well this was an exception because I was being offered a better position in case I came here." And because now you'd already gotten over what happened with your ex.
"Then which one is your favorite city so far?" There he got you, you always had a hard time picking favorites…
"Hmmm, maybe Amsterdam?" You thought that it would be a smooth way to do some flirting of your own. "It can be a very romantic city…" You started, "and I've always seen myself as a romantic, hopeless or not…"
"Oh, is that right?" The detective asked.
"Yeah, well, what can I say if everything romance just makes me happy?" You said, looking up brightly at him. Before he could muster up an answer though, you realized where you were, "Oh, that's my building right there!" You exclaimed pointing at the building across the street. But just as you said it you found yourself being sweetly and longingly kissed by Jay, which caught you completely off guard.
"So…" You started without really knowing how to continue after the kiss.
"So…" He imitated while nervously scratching the back of his neck. "I guess it was a bit awkward to just kiss you like that-"
"No! I, uh, I liked it!" Gosh, you sounded like a teenager, " I mean it wasn't bad or anything."
"Then maybe you'd be okay with giving me your number?" He asked.
"Yeah, sure!" Once again, teenager, dammit! "I, uh, what I mean is that I wouldn't mind it if you wanted to call me sometime, detective. You know, just making myself available for the community." You repeated his previous words with a wink.
"Huh! Careful with those empty promises, ma'am," Jay said playfully.
"Who said anything about empty?" You countered.
"Okay, then… Just know that you might be getting a call from me sooner rather than later." He half confessed while shaking his head.
"Looking forward to it!" You shot back and turned around to walk towards your building. Just as you were about to take the first step though, you decided to take a last glance at him, saying: "Have a good night, detective." He didn't answer, you didn't give him time to. But, as you were almost at the building's door, you heard your phone starting to ring and decided to pick up, since it wasn't very common for you to get calls at that time of night. "Hello?"
"Hi, uh, is this (y/n) (y/l/n)'s phone?" You heard Jay's amused voice on the other end of the line and instantly turned back around to see him, still standing on the other side of the street, purposely in your eyesight.
"Really?"
"You said to call at any time-"
"Hmmm…"
"And I just couldn't wait!"
"Are you making fun of me right now?"
"Not at all!" He quickly responded. "I am, actually, inviting you to grab coffee with me one of these days." At that, your heart started beating faster and you could only hope that he wasn't able to hear it through the phone. "Or, you know, lunch, dinner, whatever you prefer!"
"I, uh, I would love to, Jay." Was all you could answer, as the flirty banter suddenly seemed pointless. "I would love to grab coffee or lunch or dinner with you sometime!"
"Okay. That's, uh, that's great! So, maybe this Saturday? 9 o'clock?"
"Yeah, sure! That sounds good! Just let me know where you wanna me-"
"Nope, nuh-uh, that's not happening! Just be ready by then and prepare yourself to be surprised!"
"Jay, I-"
"Not taking no for an answer! Goodnight to you too, (y/n)." He said and hung up, waving at you as he continued his path. Meanwhile, you went upstairs thinking about Saturday and about how you'd snatched a guy like that on your third day back in the city. Maybe Chicago wasn't as bad as you remembered it anymore...

How Many Detectives Are Needed To Sleep A Baby? || Jay Halstead x reader!
Cute and fluffy Jay, wife and baby + babysitter detectives
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Tumblr media
Summary: Intelligence unit takes care of Jay's newborn baby while he and his wife are in court. Turns out it is the most difficult case they have worked on.
-"You can't go in there". Platt muttered in a scolding tone to Adam, who wanted to go into the coffee room.
-"Why not?" He asked strangely.
-"Shhhhhh". Kim gave him a punch on his arm. -"Keep it quiet, you're gonna wake her up".
-"Ok, alright". Ruzek kept his voice low. -"What the hell is going on, girls?"
-"Halstead's baby is sleeping in there. Don't you dare to interrupt her sweet dreams, bro". Kevin said from his desk.
-"Look at her. You can see her smile even from here". Hailey said, peeking through the window.
Trudy and Kim followed her.
-"She's so lucky she didn't get her father's mad face". The Sergeant enquired.
-"What do you think she's dreaming about? She looks so peaceful".
-"What's going on? Where's Jay? Where's her mom? What is she doing here all alone?" Adam was losing it, increasing his voice volume once more.
-"She's not alone. We're taking care of her!". Hailey frowned.
-"Adam, please". Voigh silently got out of his office and rushed towards him whispering. -"Would you keep it down? I can hear your voice even with my door closed. Let the baby rest, she's only weeks old and already has seen too much".
The detective opened his arms in a defeated gesture. He had just arrived and didn't understand anything.
-"Y/N is testifying right now, we couldn't avoid it. She and her colleagues published the investigation under their names, so...I couldn't stop it. Jay is by her side. The baby is here for protection".
-"She really is a hell of a journalist". Upton mentioned with admiration.
-"And a very brave woman. We owe her a lot in this case". Hank stated.
-"You know? You would have known about this if you had arrived in time to work". Burgess teases Adam.
-"Is there any news about the trial?" Platt wanted to know, worried about you.
-"Not yet, but Jay said he'll be in touch". The boss stated. -"You know these trials take time".
They weren't conscious about it, but the whole Intelligence squad looked hilarious talking with whispers and walking in tiptoes as they went back to their workplaces.
Time passed and the girl was still sleeping safe and sound, until Adam decided to stand up to stretch a bit and stumbled with some cables on the floor. Naturally, the clatter woke up the little baby.
-"It had to be you, right?" Kim mocked her husband as she helped him stand up.
Hailey and Kevin ran to the coffee room as if they were running a race. It was him who got there first and held the baby girl.
-"There, there. Uncle Kev is right here". He tried to reassure her. -"I had siblings and took care of them when they were babies. I can manage another one".
But after a few minutes, she was still uncontrollable.
-"Ok, it's my turn". Burgess got into the game and took the baby off his partner's arms. -"I'm the only mom here, the only one who has a real daughter. I know how to do it".
-"What are you talking about?" Trudy Platt laughed. -"Makayla was already a grown up when you adopted her!" And she grabbed the baby to accommodate her in her chest. But the crying did not stop.
-"Oh, no. What are they doing to you, sweetie?" Upton grabbed her and laid her in her arms. -"I am her godmother, she knows me better".
The baby Halstead slowed down her crying, but she was still restless.
-"Well, how many detectives do you need to sleep a baby, hum? You don't know anything". Hank Voight gasped. -"Give her to me, I'll show you all". But as soon as she was in the arms of the boss, her crying increased. -"Oh. I've lost touch!"
Jay and Y/N were already at the bullpen, waiting in the stairs. They got in time to witness the fluffy scene.
-"Hey, guys? She's not a rag doll, you know?" Jay said laughing at the scene and his friends turned around with surprise. -"She just needs her daddy's arms''. He took his daughter to stroke her and almost immediately she calmed down.
-"That's not fair". Platt crossed her arms.
-"We brought you coffee". You smiled, leaving the box you were carrying on one of the desks. -"There's not enough caffeine when you take care of a newborn. There's one for each of you, just as each of you like it. Look for your name in the tags".
-"Geez, thanks!" Adam said gladly and balanced the table. -"I was denied entrance to the coffee room the whole morning".
-"I'm sorry". You turned red.
-"Don't listen to him". A chorus of detectives said.
-"She's really calm, it was no problem". Kevin asserted and everyone else agreed.
You approached your husband and as soon as you were in your daughter's sight, the baby started to smile and giggle, throwing little kicks into the air.
-"What? Why are you laughing so much, baby?" You raised your hands and freed Jay's arms. -"Come with mommy, sweetie".
Everyone stared at the scene with tenderness, especially Kim, whose eyes started watering.
-"You wanna hold her?"
She just nodded and took the opportunity.
-"How was the trial? Are you alright?" Platt inquiered.
-"Yeah, I mean it was really scary, but I think it went fine". Y/N hands started to shake a little bit, but she was fast enough to hide them in her pockets. Nobody noticed, except for Jay.
-"She did a great job". He hugged you by the waist, trying to secretly ease you.
-"I have no doubt about it, she already showed us how much of a badass she is". Hank smirked.
-"I will just be more comfortable if you stay in here at least until the Jury deliberates, or as soon as I can go home with you. It's just a precaution, I'm not being paranoid or something".
-"Yes, I agree". Voight followed the idea.
-"Sure. Whatever you think is better".
The baby yawned and stretched herself so adorably, that she caught everyone's attention again.
-"I should put her down to sleep".
-"Alright. Take my seat, Y/N. We don't know how much we're staying here". Jay pointed out.
-"C'me on, Kim. Give the baby back to her mommy".
-"If you need help with the baby or you get bored of these people around, I'll be downstairs". The desk Sergeant winked at you and you smiled back at her back.
-"She won't be bored. She has me here". Hailey pulled a face.
-"I'll take provisions just in case the little one takes the coffee room again". Ruzek rushed to the kitchen.
Everyone else rolled their eyes in a funny way.

A Bump in the Night
A/N: This took longer than I’d like to admit but I’m proud of myself for actually finishing it. Some Jay Halstead x Reader for y’all to (hopefully) enjoy.
Without warning your eyes open and you’re awake. Something woke you up, but you don’t know what. Maybe it’s just Jay getting home late, you think. You look to the other side of the bed and see Jay’s back, he’s on his side, sleeping soundly. Sleeping hard, if the snoring and the beer bottles sitting on his night stand are any indication.
You settle back into bed and roll over to spoon Jay, then a tinkling of glass comes from outside your bedroom. It almost sounds like it came from downstairs.
You whip your head towards the door and softly slide your hand over to Jay’s body, preparing to wake him up. But you don’t hear the noise again and now you think you were just imagining things.
Then it happens again but this time it’s louder and it’s not tinkling, it sounds like someone’s rummaging through stuff. This time the noise doesn’t stop and you know it’s time to wake up Jay.
“Jay, Jay. Wake up,” You whisper to his sleeping form and lightly shake his shoulder.
Jay groans and stops snoring, “Sorry,” he grumbles, thinking you were shaking him awake to stop his snoring, like always.
After a moment, his snoring resumes as he falls back into sleep. Seemingly not hearing the noises happening somewhere in your home. Maybe it was just your imagination, Jay was a detective, an ex ranger for crying out loud, you think he’d wake up if someone was actually ransacking your home.
So instead of continuing to attempt to wake him, you slide out of bed, pushing back the sheets to investigate the sounds yourself.
You walk to the door and open it carefully, avoiding making it creak. Slipping out of the doorway, you hear the sounds of rummaging become louder with the added sound of low, urgent voices. Now there’s no doubt someone’s broken into yours and Jay’s home.
Fear makes its way through your spine and you stop just beyond the doorway, wondering if you should go back and wake Jay up. But deadly curiosity and denial pushes you forward.
Maybe it was one of his work friends, you tell yourself, it wasn’t unusual for any of them to crash at your home if they partied too hard and couldn’t make it back to their own.
Keeping your back to the wall, you walk slowly down the hallway, getting closer and closer to the voices from downstairs.
Finally at the stairs that lead down to your main level, you put your hand on the railing and lean over it, trying to see where, or more likely who is in your house right now.
You don’t see anyone through the darkness of the living room and you can’t lean over the railing far enough to see into the kitchen. Staying back at the top of the stairs, you hear the voices head back deeper into the house, away from the stairs.
Feeling more confident now that they’re getting further away from you, you step down the stairs, one at a time, keeping your hand on the railing. At the landing, you can see into the living room better, the furniture is moved around and all of your belongings have been scattered. Now would definitely be the time to go wake up Jay. Or call 911. Or go wake up Jay so he can call 911.
The gravity of the situation is settling into you. There are people in your home, there are criminals in your home. And you’re downstairs with them, without a solid door between you this time.
This realization lights a fire under you and you turn to go back up the stairs, just as one of the intruders, wearing a green coat, rounds the corner towards you. Even in the dim moonlight, he’s able to spot you and shouts, “Hey!”
He bounds over to the staircase and you start running up the stairs as fast as you can.
Don’t look back, don’t look back, don’t look back! You chant these words in your head, hoping staying focused on running will keep you from slowing down. It doesn’t even cross your mind to call for help yet.
The upstairs landing feels miles away, each step getting you only a little closer than the last and now you can hear pounding steps behind you, slamming against every stair after you.
Before you can reach that final step, a strong hand grips onto your ankle and pulls your leg out from underneath you, dragging you back down the way you just came.
The intruder twists your leg around and your body follows, causing you to fall on the stairs straight on your hip. Nothing but a sharp exhale escapes you as the wind is knocked out of you from striking the stairs so hard.
“Get down here, you stupid bitch,” The intruder grunts, pulling you down the rest of the way.
Your head catches on the lip of one of the stairs, knocking you out of your senses. Dizzy and stunned, you’re only able to lazily throw your hands over your head and try to grapple for something to hold onto. You can’t grasp anything and end up being dragged all the way down to the bottom of the stairs. The intruder drops your leg harshly, it bounces off the hardwood floor.
“Now what do we have here?” A different voice asks from above you.
You roll your head back to look for where the voice is coming from and see a black pair of shoes settle next to your head.
“Found her snooping around, she tried to run but I stopped her,” The one who pulled you down says.
It’s not snooping if it's my fucking house! You wanted to scream.
“Well, isn’t that lovely. Able to find anything?” Black shoes asks.
“Nothing of value. Except for her,” Green coat responds, nudging your shoulder with his foot. Your body jostles from the light kick and you can feel blood running down your forehead from striking the stairs. Your body is buzzing with adrenaline and fear, you stay laying down because you won’t be fighting anyone with this head injury. You have a strong suspicion that you have a concussion.
“Well, up and at ‘em then,” Black shoes picks you up by your shoulders, dragging you across the hardwood floor that you once loved in your home, now feels cold and foreign against your skin.
You’re helpless against the intruders, now assaulters, and all you can think about is Jay sleeping up in bed. Who’s to say if he’s even heard any of the tussle, from you not being able to shout out for help at all, still trying to catch your breath.
They take you to your living room, after Black shoes’ nod, Green coat picks you up and drops you face down on the couch like a doll.
“Go get a towel,” Black shoes orders.
Green coat walks out of the room, towards the kitchen. Anger and fear burn in your stomach, it’s not right that these strangers know their way around your home, and you’re scared they’ll keep searching upstairs and find Jay, helpless and asleep.
The sound of leather sliding against denim plays against the air. It’s a sound you’re familiar with, having heard Jay take his belt off countless times.
But you don’t feel the thrill and excitement you usually feel when Jay is removing his own. You turn your head around to get a look at what Black shoes is doing but he shoves your face back into the couch.
His knee presses into your lower back, holding you down on the couch.
“Hey-!” You yelp, your first and last attempt at a muffled cry for help as your arms are pulled behind your back and tied together tightly. A strong hand keeps your face pushed into the cushions of the couch. Barely able to breath, your eyes begin watering from the lack of air. You shake your head from side to side, trying to find a crevice of breath.
“Perfect, stuff it,” Black shoes orders from behind you.
He grabs your hair on the back of your head, ripping your head back.
Your mouth drops open and you inhale sharply, practically gasping, “Ah!”
Green coat immediately shoves a cloth into your mouth. Effectively gagging you and taking away your breath once again.
You’re convinced they’re going to suffocate you to death.
Death, I’m gonna die, I’ll be dead soon, are the only panicked thoughts reverberating off the walls of your brain.
You don’t know what they’re gonna do to you, but now you know he doesn’t want anyone to hear you scream. The only person that would’ve been able to hear you would be Jay, and he’s sleeping. Upstairs, sleeping, in an entirely different world.
The reality of dying was taken over by a different thought.
Jay.
What’s he going to do when he wakes up and you aren’t in bed? When he comes down the stairs and sees you dead on the couch? Or wherever they’re going to leave your body if they even leave you at home. You can’t imagine how it would feel to find him in this position and you don’t want him to see you like this either, tied up, gagged, and dead.
You wish you had woken him up, if only to save him from having to find you.
The weight of Black shoes’ knee is lifted off of your back and you feel weightless. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think the two of them have evaporated out of existence from the silence behind you. Until you’re flipped back over.
The two intruders are standing over the couch, looking you up and down, over and over. All of a sudden, you’re aware of your bare legs, and the oversized shirt that's bunched up around your waist.
“Go wait outside,” Black shoes says.
“But I’m the one who-” Green coat protests.
“Outside.”
“Whatever, man, but I get the next one,” Green coat says.
As he leaves out the front door, Green coat wastes no time and pounces on you. He pushes your head back into the cushions again, forcing his face into your neck and inhaling deeply. You squirm and rip your head away from him.
“Mm!” You yelp when he bites down hard on your neck, in retaliation. Your screaming protest is muffled by the towel in your mouth.
The man’s weight presses down on you, keeping you in place and unable to get out from underneath him and you can’t breathe. The only thing you can feel is gravity crushing your chest and his biting teeth on your skin.
There’s nothing you can do, you’re trapped.
Jay. Think of Jay. You force the image of his green eyes into your brain and his smiling face.
Beautiful first moments from your life with him play on a reel in your mind. When you met him for the first time, when you went out on your first date, your first kiss, him meeting your family, becoming homeowners for the first time.
And now, for however much longer, you’ll know all of the beautiful last moments you had with him.
“So, what’s a young, beautiful woman like you doing all alone in a big house like this?” Black shoes asks, breaking you out of your thoughts.
“She’s not.”
The body on top of you freezes at the new voice. Relief floods your veins at Jay’s voice, you can’t see him yet, but you can hear him.
Click.
“Get off of her or I’m going to blow your brains out,” Jay growls.
Black shoes pulls his face out of your neck slowly, very aware of the gun aimed at the back of his skull. The movement allows you to see Jay in front of the couch, in all of his terrifying glory. You had always thought Jay had the face of a puppy dog and couldn’t understand how there could be criminals afraid of this man. But now, seeing him like this, you understand.
Jay’s face is fixed into a glare and in his eyes is barely contained rage.
“I said now!” Jay shouts, the man moving too slowly for his taste.
Jay reaches down, grasping Black shoes’ shoulder, and rips his body off of you. Jay steps around him, standing in front of the couch to block you from view. He briefly reaches behind to lay a hand on your leg,
I’m here now, his touch tells you.
Black shoes lands on the hardwood floor with a thud and shakes the room.
“You should probably let me go,” Black shoes says from the floor, ignoring the gun now pointed in his face.
Jay merely stares him down. But the man on the floor keeps talking.
“‘Cause my partner’s outside and if I’m not out in say, oh, two minutes, he’s gonna come in here with his own little toy. That would be two against one, and I don’t think that’s really fair to you.”
The man slowly stands and puts his hands out in front of him.
Almost on cue, screeching sirens and tires pull up outside of your house. With no time to waste, an officer shouts, “Chicago PD!” and the front door to your home bursts open and bounces off of the wall.
Two officers enter through the door and quickly fix their guns on Black shoes “Stand down! On your knees!” they yell.
As soon as backup arrives, Jay turns back to you and kneels on the floor in front of the couch. He pulls the towel out of your mouth and caresses your face.  Jay drapes the rest of his body over yours, covering it until the intruder is dragged out of the room.
“It’s okay, I’m here, you’re safe now,” Jay whispers in your ear. His hand softly strokes your hair while you shake with sobs of relief and fear you weren’t able to let out until now.
“What did they do? What hurts? They hit you?” Jay asks, his hands hover over the small wound on your forehead.
“My hands, I can’t-” You ignore his question and move around, trying to bring attention to your tied hands so Jay can undo them.
“Here, I got it,” Jay pulls the belt open and slides it off of your hands, freeing your arms. Jay throws the belt to the ground and pulls your arms out from underneath you.
“No blood, they hurt at all, your wrists?” Jay gently moves your wrists around and rubs the red marks.
“No.” You tell him.
“Detective Halstead, an ambulance is on the way,” one of the officers walks over, informing Jay. She glances over to you before obviously averting her eyes.
You look down at your bare legs and push yourself up from the couch, taking your hands out of Jay’s. You self consciously pull your shirt down over your legs, Jay notices the movement, “Here, one second. Sit tight.”
He makes to move away from you, but your hands shoot out, grabbing onto him of their own volition.
“Okay, okay, I’m not going anywhere. Just gonna grab you a blanket, okay?” Jay cajoles you, gently pushing your arms off of him. You’re too stubborn though, you’d rather sit here, pants-less, than let him out of your sight for even half a second.
“Officer, there’s some blankets over-” Jay gestures behind him to the opposite corner of the room and the officer goes to grab one.
“Of course, Detective,” she says, walking back and handing him the blanket.
"Thank you. Here we go,” Jay throws the blankets around your shoulders, cocooning you.
“The other offender tried to take off as soon as we pulled up, but we were able to apprehend him. They’re both on their way to the district,” The officer tells Jay.
“Good, where’s that ambulance?” Jay asks. He cradles your chin with his hand, tilting your head back and forth, his focus back on the cut.
“Five minutes out.”
***
You feel safer in the hospital with all of the nurses and police officers around, but a wave of guilt has settled somewhere in between the house and the ride to the hospital. Guilty for not waking Jay up sooner, guilty of putting yourself in a situation where you put Jay in danger to help you.
When the officer was taking your statement, you didn’t miss the shocked, maybe even angry, look on Jay’s face when you admitted to investigating the noises in your home without waking him up.
Now, you and Jay were alone, him dressing you out of the hospital gown you were put in and into some comfy clothes while you were waiting for the nurse to process your discharge.
“I’m so happy you’re okay, (Y/N),” Jay whispers while he pulls a sweatshirt over your shoulder.
You scoff, “I don’t know if you would call this ‘okay’.” You chuckle and place your hand on the thick bandage covering the stitched up cut on your forehead.
“It could’ve been worse. Why didn’t you wake me up?” He asks with an edge in his voice. You try to ignore it as you feel his hands scoop your hair away from your neck, pulling it out of the hoodie.
“I don’t know, honestly. I mean I tried-”
“Why didn’t you try harder?”
This time you can’t ignore the anger coming off of Jay in waves. So you turn to face him and tears spring in your eyes. You don’t think you could handle another angry man tonight and you aren’t exactly sure why he’s angry. Usually Jay is the level headed one and only gets upset for you, not because of you.
“Why are you upset with me right now? I didn’t do anything-”
“I know, I know. I’m sorry. I’m not upset with you,” He puts his hands on your arms, rubbing them up and down. Jay gently pushes you backwards to sit down on the hospital bed and he sits next to you.
“When I woke up and you weren’t beside me anymore, I went to look for you. I heard voices and when I looked over the railing and saw that prick on top of you, I-” Thick emotion causes Jay to cut himself off and shakes his head back and forth.
“I didn’t know what they had done to you already but I had a pretty good idea of what they were going to do...”
Jay’s words take you back to earlier that night and a shiver runs through your body, trying to shake off the feeling of the man who had been on top of you, “I did too,” You respond.
Jay quickly picks up again, “I know, I’m sorry. It’s just, when they were taking your statement and you said I had slept through most of it...I was so angry with myself. You were in trouble, terrified and hurt, and I was sleeping. I mean, you had to have made some type of noise, right? And I wouldn’t wake up, I didn’t help you. I’m the one that’s supposed to protect you, I was supposed to protect you. You should be angry with me, I’m angry with me-” Jay ramble wildly without pausing to take a breath, his cheeks turn red from the lack of air. Jay’s hands gesture forcefully around himself.
Jay had been so preoccupied with your safety that he hadn’t had time to process how he was feeling. And now that you had been given a clean bill of health and were being sent back home for the night, all of his emotions were bursting out the seams.
You reach out and grasp his hands, stopping their movement. Dipping your head to match his eyes, you tell him,
“Jay, nothing that happened tonight was your fault. Yes I was scared and shaken up, I still am, but that’s not your fault. And you did protect me, you stopped that guy from...from,” You turn your eyes away from him while you attempt to say what almost happened. You aren’t trying to search for the words, they’re right in front of you. There’s no secret what would’ve happened if Jay hadn’t have interrupted. But you still don’t have the strength to say it.
Jay lays a warm hand on your back in comfort.
“I mean...Jay, the only thing I could think of was you. Everything we’ve done together...everything we had done for what I thought would be the last time, I-”
You cut yourself off, heaving in a quick breath. Squeezing your eyes shut, you let a few tears escape and take in a shuddering breath.
“The only thing I’m grateful for now is being next to you and after that I don’t want to be out of your sight ever again,” You break down in heavy sobs, not for the first time tonight.
Jay immediately pulls you into his side, tucking your head under his chin. He softly rocks you while you cry. Jay cups the side of your head with his hand, pushing it into his chest as far as he can without suffocating you. You wrap your arms around his body, trying to bury yourself in him, hoping that his imprint will erase the ones that were left on you earlier.
In a watery voice, Jay says, “I don’t want that either.”

[Can I request an image with Jay Halstead in which the reader and Jay don't get along very well since the disagreement they had at the hospital when they met because of a patient. And one night the reader comes across a FLYING cockroach in her apartment and starts screaming and Jay helps her get rid of the insect. ]
You didn’t hate Jay Halstead. No, he was just the annoying guy from two doors down that frequently got on your nerves. First off, you met in the Med ED when one of his friends got brought in. That first interaction alone was horrible.
He tries to tell you (a doctor) how you should take care of his friend (a police officer) and you guessed it, Jay was also a police officer. No medical training whatsoever. But he one upped you, went over your head and got his brother to take over the case.
That was just the beginning of it all. Ever since then it’s like he was always there to push buttons. He never took his laundry upstairs in a normal time. You’d go down to put a load in and his clothes would be in the washer.
You of course didn’t dare move them instead leaving a note on his door telling him to ‘finish your fucking laundry’ which sure he listened to, placing the same note back on your door with a thud as he carried his now dry basket of clothes into his apartment.
Not only that but he always, always, managed to park just a little over the line in the parking lot which at the right time made parking nearly impossible. And since it was assigned parking it wasn’t like you could just move somewhere else. Though you did get your karma a couple times.
Parking as close to his driver side door as possible so he’d have to do gymnastics to get in the vehicle. Always earned you a sharp glare when you passed in the hallway.
He was as fed up with it as you were but that didn’t stop him from parking like an asshole. Like tonight. When he parked slightly crooked over the line and you just so happened to be pulling in behind him.
With a bite of your tongue you did what you always did, pulled up nice and snug to his truck and got out, shooting him an innocently sweet smile as you locked the doors and headed inside.
If looks could kill you’d be dead on the ground right now but that didn’t matter. All you wanted to do was get inside, take a shower and go to bed.
The elevator upstairs was taking forever and by the time it was coming to the ground floor Jay had made his way inside and next to you.
The silence was full of tension as the doors opened, a young couple walking out with their dog, breezing past. Jay shockingly let you inside first, following and stepping to the side with the buttons and signaling to be brought up.
“Was that necessary?” His voice cut the silence as he kept his gaze on the numbers changing above the door.
You rolled your eyes, leaning against the opposite corner, “Don’t park like a dick and that wouldn’t happen,” you replied with a shrug, watching as he shook his head just slightly. The door opened seconds later and the two of you split towards your apartments.
His was just down from yours and completely bare compared to the floor mat outside of yours. The rainbow ‘welcome!’ Sign had seen better days but you didn’t mind its wear and tear as you went inside, shedding the outdoor layers the were a necessity in the cold of Chicago.
Your next stop was the bedroom for clothes and then the bathroom to shower. Which you basked in, the warmth of the water holding you in longer than you wanted it to.
As it grew slightly later you moved to the kitchen, deciding to make something small for dinner before something buzzed by your ear.
Absentmindedly you swatted it away, continuing on with the food making before whatever it was, landed on your arm, pulling a loud scream from your mouth, brushing it off quickly and pulling back against the wall.
Your eyes followed it around the room, the door to your apartment flying open, “Are you okay?” Jay nearly tripped coming inside, his eyes zooming around the entrance to your apartment.
The bug landed on the counter, a whine leaving your mouth before you looked up at the man that usually you’d hate seeing but right now we’re so thankful for. Shakily you pointed at the counter, “There’s a bug.”
Part of you was embarrassed but the way his shoulders relaxed as he stepped further into the kitchen made you feel the slightest bit better. “Seriously? You screamed bloody murder over an insect?”
“First of all, it landed on my arm. Second of all, you’re the one that came barreling in over it.” You rolled your eyes, arms tightly wrapped around you. Bugs were the last thing you liked dealing with. You could do blood, pus, vomit. All the nasty doctor stuff.
But not bugs. “I thought you were hurt.” Jay sighed, looking around. “Where are your paper towels?” He asked, following the line of view where you pointed again.
With a sigh he ripped one off the roll, slowly going towards it. “Wait don’t kill it-“ Jay faced you.
“What?”
“He’s just a bug, he doesn’t deserve to be killed just because I hate him and want him gone.” You slightly stepped forward, reaching into the cupboard above the sink, trying so hard not to disturb the winged insect.
Jay raised his eyebrows, “So the bugs a he now?” He teased, watching as you grabbed a glass and handed it to him.
“Shut up, just, get him so you, I, we, whatever can get him the hell out of here.” You spoke quickly, Jay raising his hands up in defense before placing the glass over the bug.
He turned to you once more, “Now what? You have paper just lying around?” His words were sarcastic but in actuality you did.
You brushed past him, grabbing a page from the magazine you had on your living room table, ripping it out and handing it to him. “That work?”
Jay nodded faintly, “Yeah..” He took it, successfully trapping the bug in the cup as he lifted it. “I’ll let him out the window,” The man offered, walking to the living room where you pulled a window and its screen open for him.
Once it was gone you took the cup from him, a light smile on your face, “Uh, thank you.” You muttered, walking away quickly to the kitchen to wash it out. Whether it touched it or not that glass was tainted.
“Yeah, no problem. Hey, next time try not to scream like you’re getting killed unless you’re actually getting killed.”
“Oh yeah I’ll do my best.” You rolled your eyes once more, glancing over at him. “No promises though. I hate bugs,” You added, flipping the cup over to let it dry.
Jay nodded faintly, “Well, you know where I am if you need an exterminator.” You shot him a look, “Or remover.” He tagged on before giving you a soft smile, “I’ll see ya.”
With that he left and you couldn’t help but look at the door when he was gone. Maybe he wasn’t that horrible of a guy.
