The JL finds out Captain Marvels identity and regrets it immensely
JL find out Captain Marvels a child and they start trying to parent him and just being awkward so it’s decided that Captain Marvel will join YJ (Clark started referring to Billy only as ‘son’ and ‘young man’ one time Billy saw an airplane and Clark leaned down and went “That there, son, is called an airplane and it-” “I’ll fucking stab you istg”)
To the public Captain Marvel is just extra supervision for YJ but the hero community knows it’s a way to discretely move Captain Marvel onto a team with people his age and be ‘safer’
But it doesn’t work out the way they want bc Billy’s a chaos gremlin much like YJ so they’re just doing dumb shit in the public eye bc they technically have ‘adult supervision’ (it takes Billy fifteen minutes to convince yj to go against being supervised by green lanterns)
“We’re literally your coworkers??” “I’ve literally never seen you before besides isn’t it illegal for cops to question a minor without their guardian present? 🤨” “Technically, he’s not their coworker bc he’s not in the jl anymore” “Kon” “What? I’m just saying!” “Stfu wait does Marvel even have a guardian??” “He doesn’t”
Anita and Billy are trading magic tips and teaching each other spells they should NOT have access to esp bc they’ve blown up thirteen city blocks and 1/4 of almost every planet they’ve visited with YJ
Cassie and Billy play high stakes games of catch above the earths atmosphere with missiles and shit in their free time and also during missions
Kon and Billy do just plain dumb shit they have no business doing and then playing up the ‘I’m just a baby…and I’m not even really human/I didn’t have a childhood so how would I know that I shouldn’t do that?’ excuse after bankrupting Luthor for the third time this month along with demolishing all of his newly renovated buildings (Which he and Greta repurposed to create low income housing and food pantries)
Cissie invites Marvel to all her Olympic events and he shows up to every single one with an obnoxiously large magical banner
Bart and Billy plan quips, one liners, and trash talk together and everyone hates it bc they only use the good ones on them but villains (along with everyone in their immediate vicinity) are subjected exclusively to shit like “nuh uh” and “make me”
Greta and Billy are taking down shady government operations with zero fucks to give (they had houses built for the people affected but they did also send a very long list of people to the hospital/morgue)
Billy makes Tim a magic skateboard that flies at like Mach 1 with so many magic cameras it’s concerning bc he thinks Tim being unhinged is funny especially it inconveniences or at least stresses out batman
But they’re mostly talking about what lies they’ve told the jl recently so they can plan their lies around each other “I lied to batman yesterday so you gotta back me up” and Tim’s fabricating evidence despite having no other information bc Billy will 100% “Aren’t you a so called ‘ethical’ billionaire? Nonono it’s whatever, I just thought you’d want to look out for the people but-”
And JL tries to lecture Billy about it ‘you should be more mature. I expected better’ and he’s just like ‘why?? I’m baby 🥺 I don’t know any better’
And Green Arrow’s so goddamn confused bc ‘Bro?? I’ve watched you do negotiations when Superman’s not available…’ ‘I’m just a little guy’ ‘I’VE WATCHED YOU STOP A WHOLE ASS INVASION IN TEN MINUTES’ ‘little baby man’ ‘But you’re one of the strongest members of the league???’ ‘You do know I couldn’t tie my own shoes like six years ago, right?’ ‘HOW OLD ARE YOU’ ‘Wouldn’t you like to know’
YJ and Billy just do a bunch of petty shit until JL has had enough and they’re like fine whatever it wasn’t a problem before

BEST OF MOTOGP
Marc Marquez x reader x Carlos Sainz love triangle.
Read Part 1 here
Tumblr media
With every step towards the garage your heart beat faster and faster, you have been working with the brand for what felt like forever and you finally got it. Redbull social media specifically focused on MotoGP you honesty would’ve been happy with any type of racing but you were ecstatic with your placement.
You don't know why you were nervous everyone has told you again and again how kind Marc was but you’ve had some unsavory experiences with other athletes coming up that didn’t understand or appreciate the new way of technology and in turn you.
You tried to keep your head up walking into the Repsol garage being amazed by the fast past everything was moving at. Being so caught up you jumped when a hand landed on your arm.
“I’m sorry, I’m Marc didn't mean to scare you.” He spoke holding a hand out for you, happily taking it. “Hi I'm Y/n, a part of the media team, its so nice to meet you”
Marcs eyes widened. “A new member of the family! please allow me to show you around.” He lead you all around the paddock introducing you to everyone you passed. Ending back at the Repsol garage he left you to a meeting with your boss wishing you good luck before he sped off to practice.
“He’s really nice right?” You spun to the right at the new voice seeing a slightly older than you blonde woman, who nodded to where you were watching Marc leave.
“Out of all the people I’ve worked with this team is by far the best and most welcoming, I'm Susan by the way while I'm technically in charge as long as you do the job and don't cause havoc we won’t have an issue.” She winked making you drop your shoulders and let out a breath you didn't know you were holding, making her laugh.
“Come on, I’ll show you the best spots for content during the race.”
1 year later (2 years ago)
“I’m really glad you let me come.” Marc spoke almost shyly with a red dusting across his cheeks as he followed your lead down the streets of your hometown. “How could i not, you practically begged.” You teased, smiling as you looked up at him as you stopped walking now there was only a few inches between you both.
“I’d beg just to learn your favorite color if that’s what it took.” He whispered, his fingertips grazing your cheek as he moved a strand of hair out of your face. Marc wishes he remembered the moment he fell for you, when he stopped seeing only the color of your eyes and started seeing his everything in them. But it's times like this he almost doesn’t care when, just that it’s there now.
“It’s red.” You answered breathlessly almost speechless from the was he was gazing at you. Your heart started racing as you noticed how close he’d gotten, his breath fanning across your face. “Tell me to stop.”
“I don't want you to.” Clutching his shirt in your hands to keep him close. Marc laughed lowly brushing his noes against yours, “Then tell me to kiss you.” He had to hear it, he had to know you wanted it as bad as he did before he did anything that couldn't be taken back.
Tired of waiting you pulled on his shirt crashing his lips against yours, Marc got over the shock instantly, pulling you tighter against him, so close you couldn’t tell where you ended and he began . Pulling away only when the need to breathe became overwhelming, even then he didn’t move away far.
“I really wish you would’ve done that sooner.” He smiled against your lips, and reluctantly stepped back remembering you were in public. Not before taking your hand in his. “Where’s that cafe you wanted to show me?” At his words you lit up practically dragging him in your excitement “Oh it’s right around the corner come on!”
During the season you shared many moments like the one shared then, getting closer and closer to each other and after the season you and Marc found yourselves back in your hometown it was just small enough that no one bombarded him plus he had never seen you so relaxed than when you were there. So his pushed to come back during the break.
“Come on champ i thought you were an athlete!” You shouted behind you where Marc was, you wanted to show him one of your favorite hikes it was rough but the view up top was worth it.
“I’m just making sure you don’t fall behind amore.” Marcs words dragged making you look back seeing his eyes locked on your butt, he only smiled being caught making you laugh.
Reaching the top, you shouted in excitement spinning around “we made it! Marc quickly wrapped you in his arms spinning you around kissing all over your face. “Marcy!” You giggled meeting his lips as he set you down.
“Come on we need a picture to remember this great feat.” You cozied up to Marc as you held out your phone being sure to get the view behind you, and capturing Marcs wide grin.
“One last photo together hm?” He said, looking everywhere but at you, sighing you rubbed his arm “It’s hardly the last time we will see each other, I’ll only be gone one season.”
“Practically forever.”
Present
Out of all the things you expected to see once you turned the corner was to see Marc and Carlos in some stand off their respective teams separating the two men. “What’s going on?”
Carlos who was just shaking out of Charles hold looked like a deer caught in headlights. “Nothing”
You looked to Marc knowing he would tell you the truth. But he just walked past you pausing once your shoulders met staring at the wall ahead. “I take it back, don’t pick him.”
Spinning around you grabbed his arm not at all finished with the conversation.
“You always tell me what to do first, not to fall for you now, don't fall for him what do you want!” You exclaimed not able to handle the mixed signals it nearly broke your heart when Marc told you nothing could happen between you two all those years ago because you worked together.
Flashback 1 year and a half ago
You and Marc layed by the pool soaking in the sun, legs tangled together. Smiling as you felt him press small kisses leading to your neck from your shoulder. “Stop” you laughed softly. Pushing him away just making him tighten his hold even more ensuring you couldnt escape. Caressing his face when he pulled away from your neck running your thumb over his cheek bone as he gazed at you.
“What color tie are you going to wear to the gala this year.” You asked out of the blue making his brows furrow and pull away further, making your hand drop. “Probably black why?”
“I wanted to make sure my dress matched.” Being a part of Redbull socials you were invited anyway and thought it would be cute to tie together. But seeing the look he got on his face you were starting to second guess yourself.
“You know no one can know we’re doing this right?” Your world screeched to a stop like a scratched record at his words. “What?” You breathed out. Marc sat up pulling away from you and sighed. “I don't want it to look bad on you if it got out, i care about you and don't want you to get all the hate you’d get for being with me. But we can still dance at the gala.” He spoke cuddling back into you, which you were gad for so he couldn't see your eyes glassing over. “Yeah” your voice cracked “yeah we can.”
(Flahback over)
Marc sighed. “We both knew being just friends would never work.” He grabbed the back of your neck pressing his lips against your forehead. “I’m so sorry for what i said before but i was always yours and i hope you’ll be mine one day.”
With those as his parting words you found yourself alone, needing time for your thought you decided to walk through the paddock to clear your head. Your heart eached seeing Ferrari red everywhere. After Marc shut down any chance of being serious, you begged for a change of scenery landing a place in F1 more specifically Toro Rosso whatever pain you felt Carlos helped you overcome and then you went back to MotoGP and everything got complicated.
“Y/N! Y/n wait!” Your body froze before you could think Carlos stood in front of you the next moment his eyes begging you to hear him out.
“I’m sorry you had to see that, you weren’t supposed to.” He breathed out, hands twitching like he fighting the urge to reach out. “Didnt apologize for doing it” he everted his gaze at your words before straighting up taking a deep breath.
“I know you have feelings for both of us, and i know i can’t do anything about it. But i just want you to remember who broke your heart and who picked up the pieces.” Carlos squeezed your hand that you didn't know he grabbed before turning to walk away,
You sighed falling onto your bed at the hotel, you knew it wouldn’t be smooth sailing with Marc showing up at Carlos race but you didn't expect this much trouble. Carlos was right he did pick up the pieces of your heart after Marc broke it, but part of you wondered what would’ve happened if you didn't run to F1 after that conversation.
During that season Marc didn’t disappear he made his presence known despite the unopened text from him in your phone he still sent flowers to every race and invited you back to Spain for the summer, perhaps he was right. Being just friends would never work
Your inner monologue being cut short by your phone going off, leaning over with a groan your brows furrowed at the text.
Carlos: check your email.
Ignoring the message you open your emails seeing a brand new one from Ferraris head of marketing personal email.
“Hello Y/n, it has come to our attention you were looking at other options outside of your current employer, you have come highly recommended from some of our employees during your time in F1 a few years ago and we would love to add you to our team. Given your close relationship to one of our drivers we think you would make a wonderful addition.
We have reviewed your current contract with Redbull and would like to offer to buy it out and add a 20% raise to your salary plus benefits. No need to interview please get back to us at your soonest convenience.
Scuderia Ferrari, Social media, Marketing team
Practically throwing your phone across the room your breathing picked up. While it was a fantastic offer and one that would definitely keep you and Carlos together it wasn’t what you wanted, wasn’t who you wanted.
Rushing from your bed you pulled open the door to your room and ran through the hallway stopping abruptly as you nearly bumped into Marc a few feet away.
“What’s wrong?” What are you doing out here.” You both spoke simultaneously.
“Ferrari offered to buy me out of my contract.” You rushed out making Marc roll his eyes and chuckle humorlessly. “So that’s what he meant.”
“You, you knew?” You stammered over your words. “That’s what he told me earlier” you’ve never seen Marc so withheld before, at least not with you.
“And you didn't tell me!” You exclaimed, Marc sighed running his hand over his face. “If it’s what you wanted i didn’t want to stop you. Would it kill me, yes, but all i want is for you to be happy even without me.”
“How good is the contract?” He asked before you could say anything, keeping a good few feet between you.
“Really good.” His face hardened at your words nodding his head he made a move to turn away before you stopped him.
“But not good enough to leave you.”
Marc spun back around so fast though thought he would’ve broken something making you giggle. “Really?” He asked needing to be sure it wanted to his imagination. “Ever since that kiss you’re all i wanted.” You whispered being afraid any louder tone would break the spell.
Marc quickly erased the distance between you and wrapped you in his arms nuzzling his nose against yours.
“Tell me you’re mine.” He smiled against your lips reminding you of the first time.
“I’m yours, i pick you.”
That next break you found yourself back sun bathing with Marc at your home in Spain, the sun shining off his wedding ring from its place on your thigh. Your husband sending daggers at stitch who was lounging in your arms.
“I never thought id be jealous of a dog.” He grumbled laying his head back down on your chest when you giggled. “Aw poor baby.” Rubbing your hand through his hair, feeling him smile against your skin. While it was a rollercoaster getting there you wouldn’t change the life you had for anything.

hai haiii this is a req for your event!
al haitham + second chance romance
also, congrats on 1.5k followers! you v much deserve it!
here it is!! i hope you like it. i’ve been facing such like, writer’s block, recently, but i’ve enjoyed writing this.
trope: second chance romance
including: al haitham
as soon as you and al haitham could, you got married. it was a courtroom wedding. rings were exchanged, but it was the signing of the marriage document that really mattered. you were both young and foolish, and thought your love would last forever.
you were soon to learn that “forever” was only about three years and a couple weeks. you don’t even know if you could count those last few weeks, since all you and al haitham did during them was argue.
that was about a year ago. you haven’t seen him since, even though you’re technically still married. you thought the next time you would see al haitham would be in court—sooner or later you would have to get divorced—but no, it wasn’t a courtroom.
“what were you thinking?” you demand, opening the door to al haitham’s house. your old house. you still have the keys.
“i didn’t think—“
“you didn’t think doing something like that would land you in the hospital?” you lead al haitham inside and set him down on the couch. the doctor said it was only a minor concussion, but still called you in to drive him home, uncomfortable with him driving a car.
“it’s fine, really,” al haitham insists. he watches as you march into the kitchen and open his refrigerator. he hears a grunt of disapproval.
“what are you doing?” he asks.
“making you dinner,” you respond curtly. you’ve found at least some ingredients to work with.
“why?”
“are you really going to ask the person who’s feeding you ‘why?’”
al haitham promptly shuts up. he listens as you start cooking: the cutting of onions, your immediate cursing at those onions, a towel grabbed to wipe your eyes.
you… were never the best cook. that was always al haitham. but al haitham appreciates your efforts all the same, especially when you set down a steaming plate of dinner infront of him—and this time, it actually smells pretty good.
“thank you,” he says. then, somewhat bravely, “i’ve missed your cooking, [name].”
you scoff and begin digging into your own plate. “don’t lie to me.”
“i’m not lying,” he insists. “i’ve missed your cooking.”
you don’t quite believe al haitham. towards the end, you both took your own meals. actually, you stopped eating together long before you actually separated.
“i’ve missed you too, actually,” al haitham says. you slowly set your fork and knife down and stare at him.
“you’re lying to me,” you decide. “first about the food, now about… that.”
“but i’m not.”
“but you are.” you get up, take your dish—al haitham’s too, though he isn’t done with it yet—and march back into the kitchen.
“[name], please—“
“i don’t want to hear it,” you tell him. you drop the dishes into the sink with an unceremonious clang.
“but i’m not lying,” al haitham says. he’s entered the kitchen and stands behind you now.
“i don’t know that.”
“you don’t believe me?”
“should i?” you ask. you shake your head then. “it’s not the time for this. i don’t want to argue with you while you’re injured.”
“then don’t argue, listen,” al haitham tells you. “i’m not lying to you, [name]. i know you don’t believe or trust me right now, but it’s true.
“you don’t have to give me an answer now. but please—i think you should give us another chance.”
you cross your arms, conflicted. on one hand, you’ve missed al haitham. although it was an impulsive wedding and more-than-messy breakup, you miss him. on the other hand, you don’t know if you could trust him again—if you even should get back together.
“i’ll think about it,” you tell him finally. he smiles faintly, but then winces. you quickly continue, “but right now, you need to rest.”
al haitham doesn’t protest when you help him to his bedroom. you’re about to leave before al haitham catches your arms and says, “please stay, [name]. it doesn’t have to be in here, but please—stay for tonight.”
you feel like you did all those years ago when you got married—young and foolish. you know you should go. that would be the more mature and much smarter decision. you haven’t even told al haitham if you actually want to get try getting back together or not. you know you should go, but you don’t.
“okay,” you say. “i’ll stay.” al haitham gives you a tired smile, and you feel yourself blush despite yourself.
you might always be young and foolish when it comes to al haitham.

I'd like to request a snippet for a justice-driven homicidal Vampire Hunter getting bitten by his long-time femdommy Vampire rival and enjoying it far more than he expected. Can be as suggestive as you wish <3
He didn’t talk for a long, long time. He just watched her curiously, not really sure what he would do, now that he was alone in a room with her again.
Last time turned out horribly wrong with her destroying all his weapons and pushing him against the wall. He wasn’t one to lose his composure easily but that one was…challenging.
“Ugh. You again?” she asked. Her pupils were dilated, two massive black holes in a dimly lit room that sucked him in. “Come back later.”
His eyes fell on the shards on the floor, the deep scratches in the wooden desk. A drawer was destroyed, torn into pieces. Usually, order was important to her. Wherever she was, there was a certain grace that followed her.
“I’m here to finally end this,” the vampire hunter said. “And I’m not leaving this room until I do.”
Usually, she would’ve laughed at that. She liked to tease him. Make fun of him.
But she didn’t say a thing, she just rolled her eyes and groaned. One hand sank into her smooth hair, grabbing her skull as she was squeezing her eyes together.
He’d never seen her like this before. Tortured like that.
Oh god.
She seemed to be in pain, fingers grabbing the desk hard enough to make the wood crack. Was she sick? Injured?
“I’ll make this quick. Some hunters capture vampires and force them to walk in the sun until they die.” This was mercy, wasn’t it? It’s what he had to do, what he was trained to do.
“Aren’t you a sunshine?” she asked. Her eyes found him again and hunger and insanity seemed to mix in them. He was more enticed than he should’ve been.
He’d been after her for months now, had spent years trying to end her. So many times, he’d been this close.
And he kept hesitating every single time. Sometimes he cursed himself for that. She seemed to be so much better at being his enemy.
“Look, pretty boy.” She looked at him and he noticed that her eyes were bloodshot. “I will decapitate you with my hands and let your head rot on my desk if you don’t leave now.”
“You’re sick.”
“So I’ve been told,” she said.
“No. You’re sick. You’re ill. Something’s wrong.” He took a step towards the desk, watching her hands, her body to detect any signs of danger but she didn’t seem to be capable of fighting right now. Her muscles tensed and relax almost rhythmically. “I can’t kill you when you’re ill.”
Technically, not true.
He took another step towards her, trying to reach her with his hand.
“I’m good with medicine and I have enough knowledge about vampires to help you, just let me—”
He didn’t know exactly why he was acting like an absolute idiot. When it came to her, his brain shut off and showed no signs of going back up.
She snatched his wrist and slammed it into the wall, panting as she pressed him against it once again. Her fangs hovered over his bare skin. He felt her breath on his neck, heavy and fast, and god, he realised how lonely he was.
“You have to go,” she said.
“I’ve never seen you act like this,” he said, his heart hammering in his chest. He concentrated on her body, trying to think of any sickness she could have. Nothing came to mind. “I’ve never seen a vampire act like this.”
“I…” She let her head drop, still panting, still clawing at his wrist. Their chests were touching and he was sure he was going insane when her forehead rested on his shoulder. “I’m trying to starve myself.”
“What?” he whispered, angry at the thought and confused why she would want to do that.
“My niece died three months ago of old age. She was the last of my family. They’re all dead now. I haven’t tasted blood since.”
“Are you insane?! Three months?” Her breath was slowing, her grip loosening. He knew she was probably at the end of her tether, with his heart beating hard enough for the two of them to hear. It probably took all her composure not to make a meal out of him.
“I didn’t know what to do,” she said. “I would’ve asked you but…I don’t think you can kill me.”
“Excuse me?”
She raised her head to look up at him.
“No offence,” she said, studying his face. He was probably drenched in red, even though he wanted to play it cool. “Fuck, you’re so adorable…”
He knew how unfair life could be. A long time ago she had mentioned that she never wanted to be a vampire in the first place.
To watch everyone around her die, to be alone for good…he swallowed, touched by how much he could relate to that.
It wasn’t easy, this profession. Most people didn’t make it to their 30s.
“Bite me,” he whispered gently.
“What?”
“Bite me,” he said again. “Please. I’ll beg for it if I have to. Please, help yourself.”
She was tired, he could tell. Maybe that was why she didn’t argue. Her nails dug into his shoulders and if that wasn’t enough to ruin him already, she licked his neck generously, sucking on the spot she wanted. He cursed quietly, trying to hold onto her hips but she was faster and pressed his wrists above his head with one hand.
The other found his jawline and followed it. When she was done with her preparations, she pressed a kiss to the wet spot on his neck and moved on to brush her lips against his.
“Is this really what you want?”
“Might as well have some fun before I kill you, huh?” He chuckled nervously. God, he was rusty. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been touched like this.
“Don’t get cocky now,” she warned, lifting her knee to press it between his thighs. “Don’t get cocky…”
He groaned, nearly whimpered and leaned his head back, eyes rolling into the back of his head. He wondered if this was how everyone who got bitten by her felt like and that thought alone made him jealous.
He was a starved man, he realised. Starved like her, for other reasons and maybe for the same reason. He had expected her to be ice cold and though her skin was a lot cooler than his, she was comforting.
Being close to her made him feel at peace. It was as if he’d known her in his previous lives, as if this was meant to be. He couldn’t allow himself to think thoughts like that…
“Please…”
“Shhh, my love.” She sucked a hickey into his neck and it slowly dawned on him that she was edging herself. Sucking that blood to the surface, taking her time…or maybe she just wanted to edge him.
Maybe she was just as nervous as he was, maybe she was just as rusty. He couldn’t tell. And he didn’t care. He cursed himself for all the wasted years.
One last time, her tongue went over his skin and then, he felt a sharp pain, followed by sweet release and an overwhelming amount of pleasure.
He wanted to hunt her for eternity, he wanted to hate her, he wanted to call her his undying nemesis so bad but above all, he wanted to fall asleep on her chest with her long fingers buried in his hair.

I’VE HAD ( THE TIME OF MY LIFE ) // matty healy x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
dirty dancing is my favourite film so this is just me expressing that
matty sees you dancing in your shared kitchen to time of my life basically
i wrote this at 4am there’s probably mistakes!!
you’re in the kitchen, leaning on the counter as you listen to the sizzling of the steak on the stove, music playing from the speaker on the counter quietly.
mindlessly scrolling through instagram feeds, liking some posts and commenting on others, but you are so mind numbingly bored.
matty’s upstairs, you think anyway. he was last time you saw him — he was staring intently at his screen, certainly pressing the mouse way harder than necessary. there were piles of paper scattered around him, guitar strap around him as it rests on his lap.
“matty,” you called his name, he hummed, turning around and looking at you with tired eyes. “i’m making food in a bit, what do you wanna eat?”
he blinked at you, mind clearly hazed over from staring at a screen for so long without a break.
“matty.”
he sat up straight suddenly, at the tone of your voice, stretching and cringing at the noises when his bones cracked. “just, make whatever. i’ll eat anything.”
“okay. i’ll let you get back to it, then.” you’d told him, and he gave you a smile before turning back around to his work.
so you chose something you both hadn’t had in a while, hoping he’d enjoy it. but you mainly just want him to eat something. he’s been cooped up in there like he’s locked to his desk.
you put your phone down with a sigh, and as though on cue, through the speaker you hear the first notes to a song you’ve memorised ever since watching it for the first time all those years ago.
you lean over to press the volume buttons, making it a little louder so it drowns out the background noise of the food cooking.
you move across to flip the steak over in the pan, before letting yourself be immersed in the music.
and you can’t help yourself when you spin around the room to the beat, and to what you remember of the dance in the film, as best you can with just you there.
you’ve always wanted to recreate it fully, learn the dance with someone, (matty.) but you find it an embarrassing thing to ask. he has indulged in the film with you multiple times, you wouldn’t be surprised if he already knew a little bit of it. he definitely knows the song, though.
you’re in your own world as you waltz around the kitchen, carefree. but you freeze as when you turn towards the door, you catch a glimpse of a figure leaning on the door frame.
you’re caught off guard, almost stumbling, but managing to catch your feet. you face the intruder directly.
he’s clearly tired, face showing that evidently, his hair is tousled around and falling in his face in some places. yet he still wears that lazy smile.
“matty!” you speak out finally, throughly embarrassed. though technically, you have no reason to be. “how long have you been stood there, jesus christ!”
“i came downstairs when i heard the music.” he speaks, drowsily at that, and pushes himself off the frame to walk over to you.
“that’s embarrassing, you should’ve said something so i stopped sooner.” you huff, hands covering your face as you try to get over the feeling.
his hands are on your wrists, pulling them down. “hey,” his voice is so calm, and it’s a little unusual.
he’s normally all over the place, voice loud as he speaks and making countless jokes at whatever he can.
“you look nice.” he whispers, as his right hand comes up to caress the side of your face.
you look up and down yourself, then make eye contact with a raised brow as if to say, really?
you’re in one of his band t-shirts, and your usual grey joggers. “be serious right now.”
“always look nice,” he responds, leaning down to capture your lips in a sweet kiss, fuelled with only love. you arms wrap around his neck, dragging him even closer, if that’s even possible, while his hand is roaming around your body.
he quickly pulls back, your arms dropping to your side. there he is again, you smile to yourself. he’s grabbing your phone from where you left it, and you wait to see what he’s doing. and you don’t have to ask when you hear the song begin to play again.
“dance with me?” he takes a step back, so he can hold his hand out.
you match the grin on his face as you look at his extended hand. you take it, letting him spin you into his arms.
it’s all a little (a lot) cliché, as he speaks softly in your ear. “i love you,”
you feel what you can only really describe as pure happiness. “i love you too,” you repeat the sentiment.
he spins you back out, and the food is long forgotten and probably burning, but you don’t really care.
because you’ve never felt this way before with anybody, so you owe it all to him.
with matty, you’re always having the time of your life.

I'd love that 🥺
yes thank u for biting I’ve wanted to write more for this ship since the last one I wrote <3
——
Jane breathed deeply, smoothing her pink dress before she knocked, a bout of anxiety coursing through her as she twiddled with the skirt, so far from her usual dark attire but she knew the light pink would look pretty next to whatever yellow ensemble her date would don. Coupled with the yellow hair clip she’d stolen from Nymphia the last time she spent the night, Jane felt pretty and lighthearted, but more nervous than she’d ever felt before a date.
Though, the moment Nymphia opened the door to her apartment, she was like a breath of fresh air, knocking the wind from Jane all at once.
“Hi,” Jane said, her thick accent coming through like it always did when she was nervous, thrusting a bouquet of yellow roses into Nymphia’s hands. She cleared her throat. “Sorry, my accent always comes through when I’m anxious.”
Nymphia laughed, making Jane’s heart skip a beat. “Hi, Jane, and yes, I know” she said softly, sniffing the sweet smelling roses and taking Jane’s hand. “You don’t have to be nervous though, this isn’t a normal first date. We’re already girlfriends, who just happened to have not had a real first date.”
The sentiment was simple, but it worked in making Jane’s nerves disappear. She fake gasped, feigning offense. “So those drunken nights where we sat on the floor and ate takeout after fucking for hours weren’t dates to you?”
Nymphia laughed, throwing her head back. “ of course they do, this is just our first date outside of that little routine. You look beautiful, by the way.”
“So do you, a vision in yellow,” she laughed, comfort suddenly blooming in her. This was nothing to be nervous about, it was technically a first date but a first date with Nymphia who was just about as comforting as a soft warm blanket and a cup of hot tea on a cold day.
“Well, you know me, mellow in yellow some might say.”
Jane rolled her eyes lightheartedly. “Are you ready to go? I’ve got a very special day planned for us.”
Setting her flowers on the side table near her front door, she grabbed her things and took Jane’s arm, chattering idly while they walked to Jane’s car.
Nymphia’s easy chatter carried them all the way to their destination, a pretty botanical garden where butterflies fluttered about, landing on the people who walked through.
“Oh Jane,” Nymphia swooned, about to jump out of the car in excitement, “I’ve always wanted to come to a place like this!”
Jane blushed, a light dusting of rose petal pink over her cheeks. “I remember you telling me that a while ago.”
Standing on her tip toes, Nymphia pressed a gentle kiss to Jane’s cheek. “Everyone’s wrong about you, you know? You’re totally not a bitch.”
“Wow, that’s the thanks I get for making your dream date come true? I get it,” Jane chuckled, shaking her head.
“I’m just kidding, I love it. Thank you for taking me here. Should we go?”
Hand in hand, Jane led Nymphia to the entrance of the garden, paying for both of their fees and leading her inside to the paved walking path.
“This really is beautiful,” Nymphia said after a bit of comfortable silence while they walked.
Jane shrugged. “It’s nice, but really, it’s you I can’t stop looking at.”
Just as she said that, a big yellow butterfly landed on Nymphia’s head, fluttering it’s wings like it found a home there.
“Hold still,” Jane said softly, pulling out her phone and snapping several pictures, setting her favorite as her Lock Screen, “there,” she said proudly, showing Nymphia her new background.
“Hey, wait, that’s not fair. Now you’ve gotta let me take one of you!”
As of on queue, a blue butterfly landed on Jane, right on her shoulder.
“Your turn to hold still,” Nymphia giggled, pulling out her phone and repeating what Jane just did, choosing her favorite photo carefully and setting it as her phone’s Lock Screen.
They stayed at the garden as long as they were allowed, watching the sun set from one of the stone benches. Nymphia laid her head on Jane’s shoulder, signing contently. “This has been a perfect day.”
Jane found her hand, lacing their fingers together. “Do you think we could have more of these?”
“I sure hope so,” Nymphia replied whistfully, “you know, someday I want to take you to Taiwan. It’s really beautiful there and I think you’d love it.”
‘Someday’ made Jane feel a bit anxious, briefly worried that there wouldn’t be a ‘someday’ with Nymphia but the look on Nymphia’s face and the gentle way she kissed Jane’s bare shoulder told her otherwise.
“I think I’d really love that.”

Warnings: mentions past relationship trauma, protected sex, oral (f receiving), and fingering. I think that’s all if I missed any let me know
~
The next couple weeks you were the happiest you’ve been in a long time. You haven’t seen your roommate in a while since you’ve been sleeping over at Josh’s. Not that you really wanted to see her. Considering how she was always ditching you for a guy. Canceling your plans for a guy. Bringing you places then leaving you for a guy. You’ve been waiting to break away for a while, but after your breakup she was all you had. You’re glad you met Josh or you would’ve been in the same situation as him that night. Even though she’s technically the reason you met Josh, but he’s the only good thing that’s came out of that friendship.
You were afraid of bothering him, and everyday you offered to go back to your house. Give him a break from you, but everyday he’d say “I don’t mind”
“Josh I think I’m gonna head home. I don’t wanna bother you”
“Oh I don’t mind. I enjoy your company. Coffee?”
“Josh do you think I should go home? It’s been a week I’ve gotta be getting on your nerves”
“I don’t mind darling. You don’t bother me at all”
I when you finally decided to run home he called you. He woke up alone for the first time in weeks. You texted him saying that you were gonna run home before work. He didn’t mind until you mentioned you were sleeping at your place. He called immediately worried that he did something wrong. You were already stressed trying to get ready, but answered the phone.
“Josh I’ve got work what’s up?”
“I noticed you left, and I got your text. Why aren’t you coming back?”
“Well I figured since I’ve been practically living at your house. I would go home, and give you a break. I’ll come back I was just giving you some space”
“Oh. Did you need a break?”
“No, but I just thought maybe you did. I was also worried that you were too kind to kick me out”
“I was quite satisfied with our arrangement. It feels strange to be alone”
“Why do you talk like that?” You giggled over the phone. “Just say you miss me like a normal person, and your not alone you live with Jake”
“Okay I miss you, and I hope you change your mind. Also Jake doesn’t count. There happy?”
“Yes. Why don’t you come to my place after I get off?”
“Really?” He said sounded a bit giddy. He cleared his throat trying to play it off.
“Yeah silly. My roommate won’t be home either. That means we’ll finally be alone”
You hung up the phone quickly shocked at yourself. Josh almost choked on his coffee, and tried to keep himself busy. He waited and he waited. He debated on showing up to your work to bring lunch, but didn’t want to run you away.
“Josh what the hell are you doing?” Jake said after watching Josh do everything, but quite literally accomplishing nothing.
“I’m cleaning what’s it look like?”
“It looks like you’re a mad man. You’ve vacuumed like four time, and that spot your scrubbing. You’ve cleaned at least twice. Why are you so frantic?”
“I’m just waiting for her to get off work. I’m going to her place tonight”
“Oh”
“Oh? That’s all you have to say?”
“It’s gonna be weird without her here tonight that’s all” Jake said trying not to be nonchalant. However when you’re as close as those two they can’t hide it.
“Why do you care Jake?”
“I don’t”
“Oh but you do. Jake I swear don’t you dare-”
“Chill out. I’m just saying she’s been here for a while, and it will feel weird because we’re all used to her being here. That’s all Joshua”
“I just afraid of you pulling your shit again”
“That was a long time ago. It almost tore us apart, so calm down and go get ready. She gets off in an hour”
“I really like her Jake. Can’t you see that?”
“I know Josh I know. Just go”
Maybe one day they will tell you about their first love. The woman that almost ruin the twins. The girl that they both fell for, fought for, and loved. She wasn’t the best to them, and when she got bored she left them both. It was only then they promised to never let a woman come between them. Maybe it was just teenage love, but to them she was everything. Now they resent her with everything they have.
~
Josh knocked on your door and with flowers in hand. He was dressed far too nice to be chilling at home. You decided your low rise sweats, and a cropped shirt would be lovely.
“Hi Josh” you smiled opening the door. “Oh my gosh you didn’t have to do all that”
“It’s for you. You look very pretty. Your eyes are sparkling dear”
You realized in that moment this was the first time someone has genuinely saw beauty in you. Not lust, or “hot”, or drunken compliments. He truly thinks you’re beautiful inside and out.
You didn’t know how to respond to a compliment like that. You studdered and began to embarrass yourself. Your face turned bright red, and you lost your words.
“Did I leave ya speechless?” He giggled at you being so flustered.
“I’ve just never had anyone do anything like this. Im very sorry I don’t know how to respond” you laughed. Trying to play it off as if your love life wasn’t sad and traumatic. Except he already knew he saw right through.
“Kiss me ?”
“Seems appropriate” you giggled and wrapped your arms around his neck. His arm gently held your waist. While his hand rested softly on your face. With both your faces being bright red you welcomed him in. You showed him around your small home. He was very interested in every detail. Even when you stopped in fear of talking too much he encouraged you to continue. When you got to the kitchen you found a vase for your flowers.
“Oh I forgot to tell you. I got off early so I made dinner. Also there’s cookies in the oven”
“And you tried to say I did too much by bringing you flowers”
“Well you’ve done a lot for me” you looked down at your feet.
He walked closer to you and pulled your chin up. He didn’t speak until you looked him in the eyes. “Do we not remember how we got here? You saved me that night. You’ve done plenty for me darling. Although dinner looks delicious” He laughed at himself
“it is”
You brought the food to the table along with a pitcher of tea. He thanked you over and over. You promised it was nothing, but he continued to reassure you.
“You know I realize I’m a bit overdressed” he laughed his face turning red again.
“Maybe a bit. I’ve got some sweats that would probably fit you”
After dinner he went to change while you picked out a movie. The moment he walked into the room with your clothes on your heart skipped a beat.
“You could keep those if you’d like. They look good on you” you smiled softly.
“Look at you coming out of your shell”
“What?”
“You’ve been extremely shy do you know that? I knew you’d get more comfortable”
“No I haven’t”
“Love I asked if you were hungry one day, and you said no then your stomach growled.”
“Did not”
“Every time I give you compliment your whole face turns red, and you can’t look at me. When your afraid that your bothering me you get quite and look down at the ground. And never once have you bothered me pretty girl”
“I don’t do that” you said with red checks and eyes glued to the floor.
“Yes you do silly girl. See there you go again”
You covered your mouth in shock. He notices every little thing about. He’s memorized them before you even had. You quickly changed the subject “Movie?”
The moment you clicked play the tension was strong. You and Josh haven’t had intimacy or anything close to it. A kiss and a hug was as far as it’s gotten. A part of you really wanted him. To feel him all over you. For his scent to cover the sheets. To have his tongue against you. To see his beautiful skin dripped in sweat. To hear his breath pick up while he’s against your ear. To feel his hands in the places others didn’t care to touch. To be loved gently for the first time. To make love rather than feel like your being used. Another part of you is afraid that once he sees you he won’t feel the same. That same beauty he sees will be gone.
He put his arms around you, and cuddled in close. After a while you laid down on your side. He followed your lead, and laid with his chest against your back. You felt him harden against you. He quickly moved back in fear of making you uncomfortable. Instead you pushed back against him. His hand found your waist as he started grinding against you. You pushed back again feeling him close to you. When you let out a soft gasp he stopped, and leaned close to your ear.
“Come out of that shell pretty girl”
“Take me to my bed”
He picked you up like a baby and carried you to the room. He laid you against the bed and started kissing your neck. Naturally you started breathing heavy, and you squirmed beneath him. He kissed your lips, your cheeks, and your nose. “Can I taste you?”
“You mean?”
He teased his tongue against your neck. You hesitated, and he quickly realized you’ve never had this.
“No ones ever went down on you sweetheart?”
You shook your head completely embarrassed. “I’ve asked for it, but every time they make me feel like its gross”
“I won’t make you feel gross. I’ll make you feel really good” his fingers danced over your clit making you shiver. “Can I take them off?”
With your nerves taking over you couldn’t answer. You nodded your head, and he could sensed your nervousness. “I’ll be gentle with you I promise”
He raised up your shirt to kiss your stomach. Placing warm kisses all over you. He slowly raised your shirt up to reveal your breast. You closed your eyes scared of his reaction.
“Baby your bearutiful”
He took his time kissing everywhere he could, sucking on your nipples, and leaving small hickeys on you. You were already a wreck. The way he was taking he time to make you feel good rather than rushing to get to his needs. He already had you wrapped around his fingers.
He made it down to your waist and kissed the band of your sweats before gently sliding them down. His teased your thighs before kissing you through your underwear. Making you gasp out again.
“There you go sweetheart”
He slowly slid your panties down, and once again you covered your eyes. “Open your eyes I want you to watch. Watch me while I show you how your supposed to be treated”
“Oh fuck” you said it before you even realized.
He licked you once letting you adjust to the new sensation. Then again and again. Then he set a slow pace as you cried out. As hard as you tried to stay still you just couldn’t. He held your legs and followed as you moved. Your stomach felt warm and it took you a minute to realize. You were about to finish.
“No fucking way”
You sat up quickly he grabbed your legs pulling you closer. “Josh I think I’m gonna”
You fell quiet as your legs and core shook hard. This was nothing like you’ve experienced before. Your eyes rolled back, and you gripped his curls. You shoved his head away you quickly overstimulated.
He teased a finger against your entrance before sliding it inside you. Then another you felt like you might be explode, but when his tongue touched your clit. The noise that came out of you was shameful. “I can’t Josh I can’t”
He slowed his pace trying not to overstimulate you. Regardless you came hurdling towards another orgasm. You couldn’t form words to warn him. Your mouth dropped, and your entire body shook again. Rather than stopping right after you finished. He let you ride it out by slowing his fingers down and giving your clit kitten licks. Letting you experience a full orgasm.
He licked his lips, and wiped his mouth. “Oh my god. Come here Josh”
You started playing with his waist band. “Are you sure?”
You assured him you were and he pulled the condom out of his pocket.
“Magnum?” You questioned him.
“Yes” he looked at you confused. “I won’t hurt you pretty girl”
You nodded your head, and he pulled them down. You wanted to cover your mouth he was big. “Josh your-” you stopped yourself real fast.
“I know honey, but don’t worry”
He teased your clit with his tip. “Are you ready?”
“Yes please”
He slowly slid himself inside you. Only the tip before you asked him to slow. “Tell me when”
You adjusted and asked him to continue. Once he bottomed out you were already clawing at his back.
“Josh” you whispered.
“I’m here. I’m right here”
You whined out for him, and he was quick to remind you it was okay. “Josh fuck it feels so good”
“I know it does sweet girl. You’re doing so good”
He grabbed your wrist and held them above your head. His pace was slow but he was so deep inside you.
“I’ve got you pretty baby”
“I think I’m close again. Cum with me Josh”
“I got you just let go for me”
“Cum with me baby”
“God you’re so damn beautiful. Absolutely breathtaking”
“Talk to me”
“Oh I’ll talk you through it sweetheart”
“Please Josh”
I’m so proud of you. You’re taking me so well. Such a good girl. Do you know that?”
“Oh fuck”
That all it took for you to snap. Your back arched off the mattress and he held you close. He spoke to you softly as he finished with you. Not used to having an orgasm so strong you laid there trying to recover. He pulled out, and started tending to your needs.
“You okay pretty girl?” He gently brushed your hair out of your face. You nodded your head still not able to form a sentence. You tried to pull the covers over you, but didn’t get very far. You whined out from your lack of strength. “Shh shh I’ve got you”
He pulled the blankets over the two of you, and you laid against his chest. Before you realized it you were passed out in his arms. He let your body rest while he laid there with you. Staring at the ceiling thinking about you.
“God I hope you stay” he whispered into the night.
~
The next morning you were surprised he was still laying next you. You thought surely he’d be gone after last night. But when the sun came shining through the curtains, and woke you from your sleep. You rolled over to find him sleeping peacefully next to you. Your thumb gently rolled over his cheek. Skin soft so soft you wish you could curl into him. His eyes fluttered open, and his beautiful brown eyes lit up when saw you. No words were said as you laid there admiring him. He really is so beautiful. If only you knew he was thinking the same about you.
“I love you” he spoke.
Your eyes widened as his words. Surely he doesn’t love you. He’s just having a moment there’s no way he loves you.
“You do?”
“With all my heart love”
“I love you too Josh”

I Wanna Be Yours
Chapter One
Tumblr media
Jake Kiszka x Demon!reader
1k+ words
Warnings: 18+ ONLY MINORS GO AWAY!! talk of death, reader is a demon, Jake is a sweet angel baby love, eventual smut
Having been born centuries ago, you had watched the world transform entirely before your eyes more times than you could count. Being orphaned at a young age, you had struggled your way through every day of your human life with a heavy heart and the weight of the world on your shoulders. You’d fought tooth and nail for even the most basic of necessities and gone without plenty of times before. Which is why, when a stranger showed up on the dark path leading to your makeshift home after a long night of trying to scrounge up enough money to eat on, you decided to hear him out for his strange offer rather than panicking right away. ‘How much worse could things get?’ You’d thought to yourself as the man introduced himself as Malachi, a demon in a salesman position of sorts.
His job was to find mortals who lived miserable lives, those who suffered daily, and offer them whatever their hearts desired in exchange for their souls. You’d be “recruited” so to speak, as a demon, and assigned a job based on your skills and talents, very similar to human jobs really.
Due to your smooth talking skills and no nonsense attitude you’d been hired as a succubus- sapping energy and claiming souls of those unlucky enough to fall into bed with you.
Suffice it to say, you’d met quite a few men in your lifetime. Countless, even. But you’d never encountered another soul like Jake Kiszka, not in all your centuries on this earth. Though you were technically a demon, you remembered being human and took pity on those you felt deserving of it. You only set your sights on the skeeviest, most depraved and revolting of men, seeing it as the consequences of their own actions. The good men, the kind men, those only trying to provide for themselves and their families, you left alone. Their souls were worth more than that to you. Jake’s soul was worth more than that to you.
You’d met Jake at your day job at your local bookstore. Independently owned, you were the assistant store manager and as such you got a lot of say in what books and other merchandise were carried, which you delighted in. You adored filling the store with a vast variety of different genres, truly something for everyone. You took special pride in your occult section, you were a demon after all.
One day, Jake had come in while you were just coming off your lunch break. As soon as you’d clocked in, he’d awkwardly said hi to you and blushed when you smiled in his direction. Part of your succubus charm was the effect you had on men, making them nervous and enthralled with you at first glance even if you never intended to take them to bed. “Hi sweetheart, I’m y/n! Ya looking for anything special today?” You cheerfully greeted him.
“Oh, nice to meet you y/n, I’m Jake! Well, Jacob- or- Jake… whichever… anyway, uh, yeah, I was really hoping you could point me towards the history section- biographies and such on, like, musicians or historical figures, or… ya know…” he trailed off with a nervous clearing of his throat.
“Oh yeah, of course, Jake! Follow me, I’ll show you!” You linked your pinky with his, leading him to the section he was looking for. “Any specific thing you’re interested in, Jake?” You asked with a bright smile.
“Oh, pirates, mostly… kinda nerdy but I find it very interesting… fascinating, actually.” He giggled. “Ah, makes sense.” You grinned, gesturing to his necklaces layered on his mostly bare chest. His cheeks flushed the most adorable shade of pink, muttering, “yeah I guess that does make sense.” With a chuckle, not quite meeting your gaze.
“Hey, don’t be shy about your interests, Jake! I love seeing people be passionate about their interests! I’ve read a lot of these myself! What you’re looking for is gonna be over here, honey” you point out the books in question. You smile and go to turn away but he clears his throat once more, stopping you in your tracks. “Listen, I know this is kinda forward but I think you’re fucking gorgeous and I’d love to hear any insider tips you have on the best books here. Can I- give you my number? And we can… swap book recommendations, or maybe hang out sometime?” He stammers out, barely meeting your eyes.
“Jake, sweetie, I don’t date, and not to be too blunt here, but I don’t sleep around either, not in the way you’re used to. I’d love to be friends, we could grab coffee or swap music or books and catch up, but I don’t want to give you the wrong idea. I couldn’t be good for you, I’d only hurt you, and you seem like an honestly good man. I’m good at reading people, and I couldn’t hurt someone like you. We can swap numbers and get coffee when I’m done here, okay?” You looked in his eyes and held his hands with yours while you spoke, handing him your phone to put his number inside. When the shock wore off, he slid his phone to you to do the same.
“I’ll text you later, Jake. It was really nice meeting you.” You gave him a genuine, warm smile as you walked away to get back to work. You managed to keep the smile on your face for the rest of the shift, and help all the customers that needed you, but you felt dread settle in your chest when you thought about the beautiful boy that had walked in and turned your world upside down. You wanted nothing more than to throw yourself at him, get to know him, keep him all to yourself. But given your nature, you knew it wasn’t fair to do so knowing you couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t get hurt.
You knew the safest thing for the both of you was to stay far away from Jake Kiszka, not let it go any further than that first interaction. But in all your years you’d never felt the kind of magnetism that you’d felt towards the brown eyed boy you’d just met. You knew you’d try and be his friend, selfishly wanting to keep him in your life in any capacity. You knew Jake would be your undoing.

Fuck It Friday
Good afternoon! It's technically Saturday here but shhhh! We've got a small continuation of Eddie and Buck post Shannon's death in Single Dad au today! Pls enjoy
Tagged by @cal-daisies-and-briars @watchyourbuck @steadfastsaturnsrings @daffi-990 @hippolotamus and @wikiangela thank you my friends!!
Eddie looks like shit.
It’s obvious he’s been crying; his eyes are red-rimmed and puffy, and he’s got that kind of far away, glazed look in his eyes of someone who’s not all quite there. He’s got a hand on Christopher’s shoulder and Buck can tell from the way his knuckles are white, that he’s clutching onto Christopher for dear life.
And Christopher, man, the kid looks so small next to his father. He looks scared and confused, like he’s not entirely sure how they ended up at Buck’s place and Buck reckons the kid is just here for the ride. He looks not dissimilar to Carrie did 5 years ago and Buck’s throat constricts painfully at the memory.
“Hey,” he says softly, letting go of Carrie’s hand to place it on Eddie’s shoulder and squeeze tight.
“Hey,” Eddie replies. His voice sound far away, like an echo.
Buck steps back, letting them through the door, and bends to help Christopher out of his shoes because Eddie’s just standing there swaying lightly as if there’s a breeze. Buck gets it, he really does.
“Carrie,” he says softly, drawing his daughter and Christopher close to him, “why don’t you take Chris into your room. You can show him your new Switch game?”
Carrie shakes her head and takes Chris’s hand, squeezing it quickly before gesturing for him to follow. “I wanna show him Momma.”
Buck’s heart clenches, but he lets them go, watching as Carrie guides Christopher to the backyard, keeping her hand between his shoulders as they walk. He hears Eddie let out a breath and looks up just in time to see him slump forwards.
Buck stands up quickly and grabs Eddie, pulling him into his arms and holding him so tight he worries he’s going to break a bone.
“Hey, hey it’s okay, I’m here. I’ve got you.”
Eddie lets out a strangled noise as he buries his face in Buck’s neck, his body shaking as he sobs. Buck lets him cry. He holds him, one hand pressing into the small of his back as the other cups his neck, and he sways the two back and forth.
Eddie pulls away after a few minutes, sniffing loudly, a horrible, snotty noise. “I’m sorry,” he chokes, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand, “I should be better.”
“Eddie,” Buck says softly, clasping his shoulder and angling his head so Eddie has no choice but to look him in the eyes. “Your wife just died. You don’t need to be anything right now.”
At that moment, Lily, having initially followed her sister and Chris into the backyard, came padding quietly towards Buck and Eddie and reached up to tug on Eddie’s pants.
“Eddie?”
Eddie looked down and gave her a watery smile. “Yes, mi princesa?”
Lily holds her arms up, giving him a small taster of her puppy eyes that have caused Buck to fold like a deck chair a number of time. “Hug?”
Eddie chokes out a laugh between sobs and lifts her into his arms, sighing heavily as Lily settles her head on his shoulder and threads her fingers through the short hairs on the nape of his neck. Usually she does this to calm herself down but today, Buck can see his daughter is trying to bring Eddie a semblance of the comfort she gets from his hugs.
“You’re sad, Eddie?” Lily asks quietly.
Eddie nods, swallowing hard. “Yeah, baby, I’m sad.” He cups the back of her head with his hand, running his fingers through her long, blonde curls, and sways them back and forth, almost in a little dance.
“Daddy says we need to make you feel better. Do hugs make you feel better?”
This time Eddie’s laugh is more genuine. “Hugs always make me feel better. Do you think we should get your Daddy in here?”
Lily perks up at this idea immediately and lifts her head off his shoulder, holding her arm out for Buck to join.
“Come on, Daddy!” she insists, making grabby hands towards him and Eddie, the fucker, with his watery eyes and snotty nose, grins and opens his arm for Buck too.
“Yeah, Daddy, come on.”
With a playful eyeroll, Buck steps into Eddie and his daughter’s embrace, holding them both tight. It’s a little awkward at first, trying to juggle Lily so she’s not being squashed between the two men, but eventually they get there with Lily sitting on Eddie’s hip, one arm around Buck’s neck and the other around Eddie’s, and her forehead resting against Buck’s as she pulls him closer. part 3 of my hope!hob Pandora's box au
part 1 part 2
word count: 1317
Once they got through the door of his apartment, Morpheus hung up his keys, sat the various bags by the door and started towards the kitchen. "I'm gonna make us some tea, do you have a preference?"
"what do you have?" hope asked heading to the living room to look at all the things morpheus had strewn around in there, morpheus noted the way he held every item as if they were the most important and delicate things in the world with wonder on his face, as if he could see something morpheus, the owner of said items, could pointedly NOT see. he's been staring too long. open the cabinet, this is ridiculous, he is far beyond your comprehension "uh, I’ve got black, green, chamomile, raspberry, jasmine, lavender, lemon, hibiscus, and rose" saying the list outloud made morpheus feel like he had to much until he heard hope scurrying towards the kitchen ending with him bracing himself on the door frame with a (very bright) look of joy on his face.
"They made tea out of roses?" He said it so softly and full of awe, as if the very thought of such a thing existing put the world in a new light, and technically it did, there was a delicate glow radiating off of hope, drenching his apartment in warm light that he could almost feel his possessions absorbing. looking back at hope, and subsequently in his eyes, morpheus could see... something, he wasn't sure what but there was definitely something there.
"yes, they did" he said still holding the cabinet open and nodding slowly "would you like some?" hope smiled and nodded his head quickly "would like honey and sugar in it?" somehow hope got even brighter as he nodded.
Hob watched morpheus as he made tea, he noted how every move he made was graceful and precise, he made it seem like this kitchen was a stage, and with that ruby around his neck it seemed like he was in costume. the ruby was large, larger than any jewels he had seen people on the street wearing while they were out, it was also set differently than them too, older maybe?
"Where'd you get that ruby?" he asked walking a little closer
"hm?" looking up from the cup of tea and turning to him "oh, my husband gave it to me before we got married." he said handing hope the tea.
"you're married?" hob could feel his light dimming.
"Oh no, that was a very very long time ago. He's been dead a long time" he sighed as he walked back to the kitchen to make his own cup of tea.
"do you miss him?" had he been human hob would’ve said that the words caught in his throat and tore it up and he didn't know why. but he's not human so he won't say that.
"no, not really" he said without looking up from his cup "i didn't really want to marry him in the first place"
"Then why'd you marry him?" his not-a-throat is fine now.
"my parents wanted me to, and i didn't really have anything else going on so..." the nonchalance and the dismissive hand wave he had when he said this baffled hope, it was as if he was talking about going to the market with someone who was already planning to go to the market, not MARRYING SOMEONE.
"could you tell me about him?" Hope asked, sipping his tea and sitting down on the couch.
"you really want to hear about that?" he asked, sitting down on an armchair "it's really not that interesting."
"Well you still need to tell me a story, you haven't told me one yet!" he said eagerly, leaning forward. "you don't have to talk about just him, you can tell me about your family, your village, how you met my sister? because how DID you meet her? let me hear about your life before you tell me about everyone else's."
"al-alright um," he said shifting in his seat "well, let's start with my family i suppose"
Morpheus talked about his village, and how everyone knew everyone, the feuds, the loves, the market and the woman who sold the best oranges and how she saved a few just for him every week. about the old story teller in the square that everyone thought was crazy and the stories he'd heard from him. how his mother made fish at the solstices. how he didnt know the people of his village very well, just all their problems that came up in the gossip, which he also talked about. He talked about how they spoke of him, calling him 'hopeless' and the distance they kept from him.
He talked of how he met his husband. He talked of their wedding, about life living in his husband's kastro and how he felt like he was just there to be a pretty face to walk the halls. He talked of the kastro staff and their gossip, about the night he met death. how his life went after that, the worship in the beginning (which he was not fond of), the way they hunted him eventually. he talked of each life and each name he lived their virtues and vices and pointed to the various items around the room while he did so, mere scraps to hold entire lives in his hands.
By the time he stopped talking, the sun had set and the moon was high. Hope's tea was gone and morpheus's tea was cold and long forgotten in the cup he held.
“ah” he sighed “looks like i’ve kept you nearly long enough to see apollo again,” he placed his cup on the side table “suppose that will have to do for now, i’ve got to be getting ready for work.” he said as he started getting up.
it was a strange thing, to see hope scurry, this time at least, earlier, well yesterday really, the scurry held wonder and well, hope, this scurry however, was different it was more, oh what’s the word? that’s the problem with being a writer (and knowing far more languages than any man should really need to but that is beside the point) there’s to many words in your head, they get all mixed up. “can’t i come with you? i love to see what you teach!” morpheus contemplated it for a moment ‘it would help him underst- Hazel Tarcey has class today and i'd never hear the end of it' morpheus sucked in a breath "perhaps another time, i have to... conduct a mid... semester... check in." he desperately (was that the word he was looking for?) hopes that was at all convincing "i'd hate to have my students fall behind." hes smiles, around 700 a.d. he figured out that if he smiled after a lie people seemed to believe him, he wasn't sure why. He ALSO learned to use it sparingly around the 1500s. it was rather bothersome being hanged, always left a large bruise on his neck (for weeks!) and he'd always have to play dead until nightfall.
"oh..! alright. well..." hope looked down at his feet then the rest of the room "is there... something i could..." Hope looked at him briefly then looked away again "never mind!" Hope laughed, morpheus tilted his head. "Just, light the candle when you've got another story for me!" Hope was smiling, but Morpheus wasn't sure it was really, he'd alway had trouble with that. "Okay, well... i'll see y, i'll... call? no that's not it... flame? absolutely not. I'll light the candle, see you later." with a hand wave he was off to his room, words the damned things.
Hob stood alone in the room. He didn't want to leave. "okay.. bye" he waved to no one. and dissipated as a sun beam from the sunrise filled the room.

So I originally published this post a little bit ago about how important it felt to me that Arin should remain without an element in Dragons Rising, because it would be such an interesting character arc to explore. But I also published that super late at night and it was more a train of thought, not something fully written, but I want to expand on this more.
Arin should not have an element, and here’s why.
(Runtime: 3:29:09) (JK I’ve just been watching hbomberguy vids for the last week)
When we’re first introduced to Arin as a character, he’s shown to be a huge ninja fan. He carried around Lloyd’s mask for God knows how long, too afraid to wash it in fear of damaging it. He wears it as a mask, too, when he tries to be just like the heroes he looks up to (which is a lil’ gross buddy). He propped the ninja up as these great heroes, and his optimism generally bounced nicely off Sora’s more pessimistic view of the world.
Arin grew up with the stories of the ninja, so it makes sense that he would try to emulate his heroes. And when he meets Lloyd, and starts training to be a ninja, well, it’s kinda his dream come true.
Other people have compared Arin’s character to that of a longtime Ninjago Fan IRL, too. He knows the lore, he knows the stories, he knows about the ninja. Sora, on the other hand, is the opposite, and a good representation of the new fans in the audience. She didn’t know these brightly color-coded ninjas existed until the Merge, after she ran away from everything she knew in Imperium, and she’s just trying to survive with her silly bestie Arin.
But then, Sora unlocks her elemental ability over technology—a new elemental ability, unlike anything seen before in Ninjago—and the story really begins.
Throughout the first season, it focuses a lot on Sora’s struggle with mastering her new abilities. At first she thinks it’s something that only their dragon baby Riyu can activate with her, but then starts to think that all her efforts lead to suffering, before finally coming full-circle and accepting them as her own, eventually unlocking her true potential in the climax of the second half of Season 1. BendoBricks on Youtube has a much better breakdown of her character arc, which I’d really recommend, cause I’m not here to focus on her.
No, I want to focus on Arin.
Tumblr media
Arin—the long-time Ninjago fan’s self-insert baby boy who I would gladly kill for—is a great character, and despite being the POV character at the beginning of the first season, does fall to the wayside a bit when focus goes onto Sora and her character arc. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong—because Arin falling a bit to the side feels like it’s being done on purpose.
Imagine this. You’re a fan of this group of superheroes in your world, and you spend your days wishing you’d be like them. Or maybe you’d daydream about your parents selling you to these superheroes, or something. And something really bad happens, the world completely changes, and then you’re on your own, and those superheroes vanished.
You make friends in this new world, and you share these stories with your new friends! It’s great. And then one of those heroes comes back, and wants to train you and your friend to be heroes, too, as your friend has a superpower. Doesn’t that sound absolutely amazing!
You’re a prodigy, too—you’ve trained and taught yourself the techniques these heroes used, and they’re all impressed. But your friend has a superpower.
And you don’t.
This is the situation Arin is in. Everyone around him has an elemental ability. Sora, Riyu, Lloyd, Kai, Nya, Zane—everyone he basically associates with daily has this amazing power (or is a cute lil’ dragon). And he doesn’t have anything. Even though he’s taught himself how to use Spinjitzu, and has managed to unlock a technique where he can transfer that spinning energy to an item, he doesn’t technically have an elemental ability. It’s less impressive compared to other characters, especially the ninja, who have known Spinjitzu for like thirteen years. It’s impressive he’s learned it on his own, unlocked the key for it by himself, but in comparison, he doesn’t have a lot to set him apart from the other ninja other than the fact that he doesn’t have an element.
In my opinion, this would be a much more interesting route for them to take his character. Staying without an element.
Of course, it could later be found out that Arin’s a new elemental master of, like, momentum, or something like that, to explain how he picked up Spinjitzu so quickly and can transfer it to objects, but I think that would be the lazy way out.
Arin’s character acts as an amazing foil to Sora through Season 1. He’s a ninja fanboy, she kinda doesn’t care. He’s energetic, optimistic. She’s cautious and a bit pessimistic. Arin later gains oni-like horns on his ninja gi, and Sora is associated heavily with dragons (which I’ve heard is quite a duality in the lore, idk I haven’t seen the later seasons yet).
Sora is an elemental master, and Arin… isn’t.
Bits of a new character arc can be seen through S1 for Arin. In the last few episodes of the series, while Sora masters her element, Arin withdraws a bit from it all. In Episode 10, following the first battle in Imperium, he sits by himself, away from the others, and dejectedly tells Lloyd, “If you have all of them, you don’t need me anymore”, before it cuts to not just Kai, Zane, and Nya; but also, Sora and Riyu. Their conversation was less about Arin’s lack of an elemental ability, and more of Arin’s fear of losing others; they have a similar conversation in episode 20, where Arin laments his object Spinjitzu only being accessible when he’s literally scared to shit and how frustrating it is, and Lloyd comments on how all of the ninja had moments when they were scared, but they acted through the fear.
I feel like both of those scenes happening in the mid-season and season finale happen interestingly. For once, they center Arin by himself; he’s sitting aside by the wall, messing with a shuriken in ep 10, and he’s throwing the shuriken and trying to activate his object Spinjitzu in ep 20; but they both put him on the sidelines, away from others.
(Okay I know in ep 20 Sora is also by herself with her mech, but Arin is still aside, so my point still stands.)
The opportunity of a character like Arin not ever developing an elemental ability like the other ninja feels like something almost too good to waste. Before Nya became the Water Ninja (and when she was actually allowed to be a character and not just The Girl), Nya had interesting moments, such as developing Samurai X as a way to be a part of the team without actually being a ninja.
I think the ideal character arc for Arin would work similarly to Sora’s, but flipped, if that makes sense. Perhaps having him attempt to unlock an elemental ability, running out of luck with everything, and getting frustrated at his lack of worth, despite his skills with Spinjitzu, would be an interesting way to go for his character. Eventually he would learn that he doesn’t need to have a cool elemental ability to be a ninja; he’s just fine as he is. And maybe that can be what’s holding him back from truly developing his object Spinjitzu is that fear that he’s not worthy enough to be a ninja. He turns his lack of elemental power into his strength.
The DR writers have a cool arc they could give him, and I think they ought to go for it. I’m sure more about Arin will be revealed in S2, and he’ll have his character arc then. I just hope that the writers don’t take the easy way out, and give Arin a much more interesting character arc than the same “omg I have an elemental ability I gotta learn” that Ninjago has done multiple times already.

Playing Catch Up | #1
Hi guys!
I’ve resurrected—slowly but surely—and I’m writing again. It feels really nice, but it will take time for me to ease back into Sam and Colby because I haven’t been enjoying their content or choices recently. I want to clarify that I’ve always separated the real people from the stories I write about them, and I never project my fantasy plots about them onto them. (This includes dream team and Azriel, although Azriel unfortunately isn’t real and can’t be offended so never mind about him).
It’s just the fact that I get the ick from Sam and Colby constantly that makes it difficult to even write their names; that’s why I came back with a Dream fic I had in my stash for a long while. I’m starting a Colby fic today *shocking* I know, hopefully soon I’ll get to a Sam one. It’s funny how I asked for Sam requests but then I immediately dipped for the fandom only to come back with more Colby inspiration, sorry.
I haven’t posted my Azriel stories before, but if you’d like to see that, well, I was going to say then ask for it and I’ll give it to you, but I’m writing and posting about him regardless so, sorry? If I haven’t lost all of you when I post my Dream fics then I think it’s safe to assume I can post stories about any other man I want since he’s the internet’s most wanted. He’s actually my little girlfriend so if you guys can be sweet to him, I’d really appreciate that.
Unless I’m going over stories or telling you how much I love you, much of what I say is satire so yes, I know Dream’s a fully grown man (I’m a week older than him so technically he could be my son) but he’s still baby girl, you know?
I’m not sure how every time I try to talk to you guys about future Sam and Colby fics I somehow end up gushing about Dream. I told you that Dream (at the same time as Corpse) was my first YouTuber I actually loved and kept up with until I found Sam and Colby a little while ago (recently, to you guys). You know what it is? As a faceless Leo myself, I really Really loved Corpse and Dream (in his faceless days specifically) because they kind of showed me that I didn’t have to post my face to have fun and be successful on the internet, and by no means am I as big as they will be and I hopefully Never will be, but especially in 2020 and 2021 when I first was in love with their content, it was so nice and inspiring to watch for some reason.
Today I have one Colby, two Dream, and one Azriel fics in the works. Hopefully you can pick out something you like in all that mess, and if you’re a part of the Dream team fandom and are itching to read (or re-read since some of my DNF fics got fairly big on A03 before I smote them down) then comment and convince me that I should post my DNF fics. I have So many, and it would be a shame for them to go to waste.
I love you all a lot, and your constant praise on my fics makes me really happy, and I can’t believe someone out there actually Likes what I write.
Love, Rosie

Sophie Deveraux - timeline
Is anyone else confused by the timeline suggested by Sophie and Astrid claiming they haven’t seen each other in 20 years? That’s only 5 years before the pilot of the original series. Wouldn’t 30 years have made much more sense? Or at least 25. I’ve gone back and collected a handful of canon dates for the timeline from previous eps and come up with the following:
1989 – Jean Mettier dies (so the painting of Sophie from ”The Frame-Up Job” must have been made mid-80s, suggesting Sophie is born late 60s at the latest)
1997 – Beaten to stealing the Vermeer at the Louvre by the Jackal (The Jackal)
1997 – The Copenhagen job with Stark (Two Live Crew Job)
1998 – The Berlin Politic Job with Stark (Two Live Crew job)
1999 – Steals the David from the Vatican (”10 years ago” according to the First David Job in 2009)
2001 – Sophie and Nate meet for the first time (”Paris 7 years ago” according to the pilot in 2008)
2002 – The Duke DIES (”dear William gone these 8 years” in ”King George Job” 2010)
2003 – Sophie sees Astrid for the last time (”20 years ago” according to Redemption 2x12+13) and escapes Ramsey
2004 – Matevan fraud (mentioned in Harry Wilson Job)
So not only does that technically mean the Duke died BEFORE Sophie left him, that can be fudged with rounding a bit up or down, but:
Are we to believe that while she was married to the Duke, she was simultaneously running around Europe, stealing paintings and doing long cons, and flirting with Nate Ford? Would Ramsey really let her work with other crews like Stark so much? And when would she have time to amass all those caches of treasure? I mean, if she stole the David on Ramsey's order, would he really let her keep it??
I feel like it would make much more sense for the Ramsey time to have been late 80s/early 90s, give it a few extra years for the marriage to the Duke, and then she makes her break for it in say ~95 or so, and spends the next 10 years establishing herself as a grifter extraordinaire on her own terms, while the Duke slowly dies of a broken heart and drinking over a period of several years, rather than it being a quick process of a few months at most.
(Auntie from the King George Job says ”he never blamed you” and ”the drink helped” - I recruited someone unfamiliar with the show to watch that scene and give me a rough interpreted timeline, and they said 'it sounds like the blame thing was something they talked about many times over a longer period of time, so that he had ample opportunity to change his mind if he wanted, and that he was drinking but also had periods when he was doing better, so I would guess 4-8 years from the time Sophie left him until he died'. That was pretty much my initial interpretation of that scene as well, as far as I remember it.)
I am very interested to hear people’s takes on this, but unless someone has a very compelling argument I think I’ll headcanon that they meant 25-30 years instead. (Couldn’t they just have said ‘we haven’t see each other since Astrid was 10′ and left it vague instead???)
(Also, if anyone can add canon dates to this, please let me know and I’ll add them in! This was just off the top of my head times when I remembered them mentioning specific years for things.)

My Personal Ranking of James Stewart’s movies.
A while ago, I did three separate posts ranking Cary Grant’s, Audrey Hepburn’s and Claude Rains’ films (at least of the ones I’ve seen), and I realized that there are a couple more actors that I wanted to do this for...actors whose filmography I’ve tried to work through, and to see as much of their work as I can.  With 102 credits, it will be a long time before I see all of James Stewart’s work, but here’s my personal ranking of the films I have seen.
And this is based mostly on my enjoyment of the movie, not just his performance...though his performance may have been the deciding factor if I needed a “tie breaker”.
14. Ziegfeld Girl
Now, I actually saw this movie for the first time last night and I was pretty excited to see it.  A young James Stewart in a movie with Judy Garland and there are Busby Berkley musical numbers?  This is going to be great!  Ummm...I have to admit that sadly, I was pretty bored.  This movie is 2 hours and 12 minutes, and they could have easily cut 10 minutes and not lose anything.  And Stewart is only in 25 minutes of the movie.  His scenes are great, and it’s always nice to see Judy Garland in any movie, but the three separate storylines just didn’t flow well together and I found myself checking the time a lot.  The most interesting thing about it for me was that it was Stewart’s last film before WWII, and that some people think you can see Gene Kelly in the background of one of the numbers.
Tumblr media
13.  The Greatest Show on Earth
Speaking of overly long movies...this one is a two hour movie stretched out to three...but it’s Cecil B. DeMille, and I don’t think he ever made a movie that wasn’t a long epic with a cast of thousands.  And while a lot of the circus stuff did not age well, a lot of it is still very impressive to watch.  Gloria Grahame learned how to work with elephants, Cornel Wilde and Betty Hutton did their own trapeze work, and the train crash sequence still holds up.  And James Stewart plays a clown!  You never see him out of his clown makeup, as his character is hiding from the law...and it’s kinda fun to see him act silly and do some more gag-type humor.  But this is another case where his scenes are some of the more interesting ones, but he’s just not in the movie all that much.
Tumblr media
12.  You Can’t Take It With You
This one is ranked a bit lower because I’ve only seen it once!  So, if I ever get around to watching it again, it may move up the ranks.  But it’s a fun, light comedy that is perfect for someone like Frank Capra.  And he’s really adorable in this movie.
Tumblr media
11.  Harvey
Another case of me only seeing this movie once years ago...but this is also a really sweet movie, and Stewart is great as the “pleasant” Elwood P. Dowd, who is best friends with a giant rabbit.
Tumblr media
10.  Rope
This is a very interesting movie.  The first time I saw it, I didn’t really like it...but after a few more viewings, I’ve grown to appreciate it more.  It’s not my favorite Hitchcock movie, and not his best collab with Hitchcock, but it is technically impressive with some decent tension.
Tumblr media
9.  Anatomy of a Murder
Now, I’ve only seen this movie once...even though I do own the Criterion Blu-Ray...it’s just a very long movie and it’s tough to find the time.  But it’s a very engaging legal drama and Stewart is excellent as the defense lawyer of a man on trial for murdering his wife’s rapist.
Tumblr media
8.  The Man Who Knew Too Much
So, this is a remake that Hitchcock made of one of his mown movies...and Hitchcock preferred this one, saying that “the first was made by an amateur, and the remake by a professional.”  I personally like them both about the same, liking some things more in the original, some in the remake...but James Stewart was the perfect choice to play the father of a kidnapped child.  He and Doris Day have very nice, easy chemistry...they do feel like a married couple who are just so comfortable together.
Tumblr media
7.  Rose Marie
So, this isn’t really a James Stewart movie...not in the way you would think.  This is a Nelson Eddy/Jeanette MacDonald movie, where James Stewart appears in one scene.  This was his second movie, and he is about 21 years old and just so cute...He plays Jeanette Macdonald’s younger brother who is on the run after murdering a Mountie.  I remember watching this movie when I was like, eight...so this was probably my introduction to James Stewart, before I even knew who he was.
Tumblr media
6.  Shenendoah
I just re-watched this movie about a week ago and James Stewart is so fucking good in it...if you want to see his definitive curmudgeon performance while he also makes you cry, you don’t need to look any farther than Shenandoah.  Stewart plays a Virginian farmer during the Civil War who has basically not chosen a side.  He doesn’t support the Confederates because he’s opposed to slavery, but he also doesn’t support the North because he’s opposed to war.  He just wants to sit out the war and tend his farm with his seven children...but then his youngest son gets taken prisoner by the Yankees, and he goes off to try and find him.  It’s a deeply layered performance and I’m honestly surprised that he wasn’t nominated for it...it’s also the movie where you get to hear him say the phrase: “a spare tit”, which is weirdly hilarious to me.
Tumblr media
5.  It’s a Wonderful Life
Now we’ve made it to his most well-known movie...what can I saw about It’s a Wonderful Life that hasn’t already been said?  It’s so iconic and such a huge part of so many people’s Christmas traditions...and his performance is so incredible... George Bailey goes on such a massive emotional journey, and he is captivating to watch.
Tumblr media
4.  Vertigo
This movie is so mesmerizing...it’s definitely one of Hitchcock’s masterpieces.  Stewart’s character Scotty is actually fairly unlikable for the majority of the movie (there are so many moments that just make me go “ick”), but his performance is so layered, you can’t keep your eyes off of him.  And that scene between him and Kim Novak in the tower is one of my favorite scenes in any Hitchcock movie.  It is so intense, and there have been plenty of times that I haven’t rewound the movie to re-watch the scene.
Tumblr media
3.  Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
If I had to pick James Stewart’s best performance, I would have to pick this movie.  It is an absolutely incredible, and it is too bad that he didn’t win his Oscar for this movie (though many people think that his win the next year was a consolation prize).  Jefferson Smith is a patriot...wide-eyed, innocent and always believes the best in people...but he slowly gets ground down as he learns that Washington DC is not a great as he thought.  People are dishonest and untrustworthy...he learns it the hard way, but he still has some fight left in him, and he’s the kind of person that just has to try.  And his scenes in the Senate between him and Claude Rains are outstanding.
Tumblr media
2.  Rear Window
This was the first Hitchcock movie I ever saw, and what a great way to start!  It is such an interesting murder mystery, and for so long, you’re not even 100% sure that it is a murder mystery...but Jeff is so invested in finding out the truth that you have to stick with him until we know for sure.  And the fact that it takes place all in one room and you never get bored is a testament to how engaging the story and James Stewart as Jeff are.
Tumblr media
1.  The Philadelphia Story
I love this movie so much.  It interesting, when I made my Cary Grant countdown, this movie ended up at number one there, too.  But I think it comes down to just how much fun this movie is...the characters are likable and interesting; the dialogue is razor sharp and the actors all have terrific chemistry.  Especially James Stewart and Katharine Hepburn.  That scene with them after the party could be a short film all on its own and it would still be perfect.  And the scene between a drunk Mike and sober Dexter never fails at making me cackle.  I think that this movie is a good recommendation for someone who is looking for more Old Hollywood movies to watch.
Tumblr media
And there you have it!  If you’ve made it to the end of this long post, congratulations. :)
There are a couple more of his movies I would like to check out, like Vivacious Lady and Bell, Book and Candle...maybe I’ll make an addition/update to this countdown.
Also, I never realized until I looked at his filmography, just how many westerns this man starred in...he made around 20 over the course of his career, which is so interesting to me, since he’s not the first person I think of when I think “westerns”...but anyway...thanks for reading!

star-crossed
Tumblr media
(Gif credit to @jtscompher)
Word Count: 9,193
Warnings: none
Genre: failed engagement, strangers to lovers to exes to ???, a little angsty
A/N: I’ve been quietly working on this for about a year (November 2021-November 2022, took a break in between because of school). As we all know, a lot has happened to Tyson within the year. However, due to the fact that I’ve been working on it for so long (and it would be a nightmare on my end to change the ending), Tyson isn’t traded to Minnesota in this story nor was he placed on waivers but the Avs do win the Cup with him on the team. The story is based off of the album, star-crossed by Kacey Musgraves. Instead of focusing on a failed marriage like how Kacey does on the album, my story focuses on a failed engagement. The first half of the story is the “Golden Hour” of the relationship (yes, after the album by Kacey Musgraves) and the second half of the story is the “star-crossed” portion of the relationship. If you squint a bit, it’s also based on elements from The Great War by Taylor Swift. I highly recommend either listening to or reading the lyrics to the album before reading the story, to get a better understanding of the plot of the story. I’m taking vibes, elements and references from these songs and putting them in the story. It’s a bit longer than my other works and it technically could of been published a 3 part series but I decided to keep it all together. It’s written with a female reader in mind because I’m a female of color and there is a part that mentions having kids but the reader doesn’t specifically have to be a POC and there’s no dialogue. Shoutout and thank you to @glitterandsummerdaze for reviewing and editing this story for me. I’m open to any and all feedback, comments or questions; just put them in my inbox or dm me. I worked really hard for a long time on this story y’all. Thank you so much in advance for reading, I appreciate it😌 (P.S. If you have the time, I would also really appreciate if you checked out my other pieces: know your heart (original) or know your heart (Brock Boeser edition), a summer in syracuse, Your Favorite Secret and The Upside of Unrequited. Thanks☺️).

“Let me set the scene, two lovers ripped right at the seams” -star-crossed by Kacey Musgraves
They say that love comes in the most unexpected ways, and it came to you at a party that you didn’t want to be at. For context, you were not the party type and you were not drawn to the appeal of drinking alcohol but Charlotte insisted on having you there to celebrate her and Nathan’s latest accomplishment of buying a home together. She also suggested that this party would allow you to do something fun to celebrate finishing grad school and before your first big job tied you down in a few days. You really didn’t want to go because you didn’t know anyone else there besides Charlotte; this party was going to be your first time meeting Nathan and the rest of the team. Despite the objections, you still pulled up to their home in Cherry Creek, bringing a candle as a housewarming gift. The party was loud and packed; you were convinced that the entire Colorado Avalanche roster was here. It was the end of the season, the Avalanche had yet again been eliminated from the second round of playoffs. You noticed that Tyson Jost (whose name and face you learned through a Google search a few days ago) had been watching you and you were convinced that he was probably stalking you. You saw him several times throughout your time at the party but you never approached each other until later on. You had no idea what you could talk to any of the guys about and you weren’t exactly planning on flirting with any of Nathan’s teammates while you were there. This wasn’t your ideal crowd and hockey wasn’t your thing; sports wasn’t something that you were invested into unless it related to sport medicine and you didn’t know how to ice skate. Some of the guys tried to rope you into some drinking games but you don’t drink. You also made small talk with the other wives and girlfriends but the conversation was awkward because you really weren’t sure what your place was there. You weren’t involved with anyone on the team, just someone that Charlotte knew but most likely would never bring around them because you stood out more than you fit in with their circle. Throughout the night, you primarily kept to yourself and wandered around the new home. Whenever she wasn’t busy, Charlotte would pop in to check on you to make sure you were having a good time. You had really wanted to leave but you were there to support Charlotte and the free food was delicious.
During the cheers and congratulations portion of the night, you pulled out a mini bottle of Martinelli’s sparkling apple cider from your bag to acknowledge the celebration but upon opening, it bursted all over the nice laminate floor in the kitchen. Due to the fact that Tyson had actually been quietly observing you all night, he immediately got up and helped you clean up the mess. You thanked him for his assistance and mentioned to him that you had noticed he had been watching you. Tyson’s face began to turn red and he confessed to you that he couldn’t quite keep his eyes off of you because 1. he didn’t know you and it didn’t seem like anyone outside of Charlotte knew you, 2. saw that you kept to yourself, 3. saw that you mainly frequented the kitchen and 4. you were arguably the only other person than Cale (designated driver) that hadn’t been drinking that night. He also noted that you were one of the few girls at this party that either wasn’t an existing WAG or someone that Charlotte had not attempted to set up on a date with one of the guys on the roster. You laughed at the date set up comment because Charlotte had not attempted to set you up yet but you knew after this party, she would definitely try.
After the sticky mess was cleaned up, you and Tyson quietly moved out of the kitchen and into the backyard to continue your conversation. Tyson asked about your relationship to the team because he assumed you were one of Charlotte’s friends. He was sort of right; you wouldn’t go as far to say that you and Charlotte were friends, more like newly minted mutuals with some trust established. You had met Charlotte at a Saturday SoulCycle class a few months back. One day after class, she complimented the non name brand leggings you wore and the two of you had unofficially become Saturday SoulCycle buddies. Charlotte even asked you for insight on the chemicals in the skincare products she used (you did a dermatology rotation during school) and over a very long lunch, you helped her out. In exchange for your help, she invited you to her housewarming party. You explained to him that you had recently graduated with a master’s degree and were going to begin a new job as a pediatric physician’s assistant this upcoming Monday. Tyson seemed genuinely interested in what you had to say and you ended up talking with him for hours. As the hours spilled more into the night and as much as you had enjoyed talking to each other, it was time to go. Tyson had to head out soon because he had errands to run the following morning before leaving to go home for the off-season and you were also getting tired. Before you left, you and Tyson exchanged numbers and promised to keep in touch. Although you didn’t want to go to the housewarming party to begin with, you were glad that you went and met Tyson.
After that encounter at the party, the next few months with Tyson were a whirlwind. Tyson went back home for the summer, spending as much time as he could with the people he loves before the chaos of the season started back up in September. Although you hadn’t expected for Tyson to keep in contact with you, you talked to each other almost everyday during the off-season and developed a friendship. You learned so much about each other during that time. You thought it was nice how Tyson always took time out of his day to talk to you when he could have been talking to anyone else. Of course, there were other girls both in town and online who would try to grab his attention, but you were the only one he wanted to pay attention to. You brought a different light into his life, and as cliche as it sounds, you were so different from the other girls he was used to. You weren’t self centered and spoiled, but selfless and kind. Tyson really liked you a lot and he couldn’t wait to see you once he got back to Denver.
Your first official date with him took place over breakfast at one of the local Snooze Cafe locations in September, a little after training camp started. That chemistry that you and Tyson had over the phone translated into real life over pancakes and laughter. One of the most important things you took away from that breakfast date was that you noticed that whenever you spoke about a topic you were passionate about, Tyson gave you his full attention like you were the only person in the room. You thought his attentiveness was admirable. Tyson wasn’t going to admit it out loud but he sure did enjoy looking at you; not just because of how you looked on the outside but the beauty and intrigue of what you had inside of you and the things that flowed out of you. Sure, you weren’t a runway model who turned heads every time you walked into the room, but Tyson didn’t care. He thought that your character, ambition and drive was much more attractive.
That ambition and drive came at a price though; you never had a serious boyfriend before. Sure, you went on first dates but you also didn’t have time for games and nonsense when you could be focusing on your goals. Tyson was different though. He was humble and had a spirit to him that seemed like he wasn’t going to waste your time; he didn’t seem deceptive or controlling or like a total selfish douchebag. That first breakfast date with Tyson eventually turned into a dinner date and that turned into spending more time together, falling for each other with each minute that passed. All of that time together blossomed into a beautiful romantic relationship. There was no reason to rush but time itself would push your relationship to move at a fast pace. Before you knew it, you were posting about each other on social media, spending your evenings attending his games, becoming a little bit more comfortable with the WAGs, and even moving into an apartment with Tyson. Loving Tyson and being loved by Tyson was more than you could ever imagine; this boy had you wrapped around his heart and he would never let you go. Tyson was so thankful to have you as a part of his life and his heart swelled with love being with you.
You loved how Tyson was so patient with you. Your lack of relationship experience left you a little cautious and you wanted to take your time to do things your own way, he would be there and wait with you.
You didn’t have an issue with Tyson’s schedule and lifestyle. You could handle it because your job kept you busy while he was gone. Sure, there would be times that you would go to bed without seeing him because you had to be up early in the morning and his game would run late or he would be gone on road trips. When you had free time while Tyson was away, you would hang out with the other WAGs and keep each other company. Although you had plenty of things to keep your mind occupied off of his absence and Tyson was always away with the team at various points, this lifestyle left you both feeling lonely sometimes. To navigate this obstacle, you reminded each other you were always there, even if it was in a small way and you weren’t physically together. Tyson would sometimes surprise you by ordering you take-out so you didn’t have to cook after a long day of work, even if he forgot about time zone differences while he was away and the food was cold by the time you came home. He would try to FaceTime or call you when your schedules aligned and he looked forward to a text of encouragement from you as a part of his pregame ritual. If you woke up early before Tyson, you would write him little notes and leave them on the bathroom mirror for him and sometimes add them into his luggage if he was leaving for an away game.
Before dating Tyson, you had a web wrapped around your heart and he knew exactly how to untangle those strings. You gave him butterflies and he always lifted you up in any of your ambitions and endeavors. Some guys would be intimidated by your boldness but Tyson saw that as your strength shining through.
You had always known that the world was a beautiful place but Tyson and his love had added even more beauty to it. His smile and laugh was like the equivalent of the sun shining on your face. His touch felt like the cool ocean breeze, dancing on your skin. This love was almost like seeing the northern lights for the first time; it was more beautiful in person than it is through a screen. The connection that you had with Tyson was so deep to the point that it felt like you knew him in another life. There was no one else in this world you wanted to be with and Tyson felt the same way.
You loved how Tyson was good with family. Your parents met Tyson over Thanksgiving when they came from out of town to see you and you had also met his mom and sister, Kacey, the same way but over Christmas and New Year’s. Being separated by distance from your families was one of the things that bonded you and Tyson closer together. You tried to recreate recipes from his mom and Tyson tried to incorporate small traditions you had with your family in your lives together in Denver.
The love you and Tyson experienced together was a wild thing. It was moving at a fast pace but neither of you wanted it to slow down. The love you shared was something that couldn’t be found because it came to you naturally.
Of course, there were low, not so warm and perfect moments in your relationship. You and Tyson had established healthy boundaries; whenever you had a disagreement, you gave each other space until you were ready to come back together.
You loved how Tyson always knew how to comfort you. After a long stressful day of work or if you were just plain frustrated, he knew how to make you smile, even if you had tears in your eyes.
You had always wanted something classic when it came to love. You wanted to be swept off your feet by a great guy and that came in the form of a really sweet hockey guy named Tyson. You both knew it as soon as you felt it that this love you had felt like a love song that could go on until the end of time.
Things were starting to get even more exclusive in your relationship. At the premier season event known as the Avs annual Halloween party, you and Tyson dressed up as Wonder Woman and Superman. Although they were just costumes, it represented how strong your relationship was and how interconnected you were together.
Music was something that was important to Tyson. Tyson loved to sing you songs on his ukelele and he even attempted to write you a song. He wouldn’t be winning a Grammy anytime soon but you wanted him to be the singer of the soundtrack to your relationship. Tyson was also a bit of a dancer and one of his favorite things to do with you when he was home was host impromptu dance parties in the kitchen. Whether you were dancing to disco or something slow, it was always a good time whenever you got to have fun and bust out your moves together.
Tyson set your world on fire and was like the color of the sky during golden hour. You couldn’t exactly keep your eyes away from it, it was something you were amazed by. You both knew that everything was going to be alright as long as you were together.
Tyson was colorblind but it was like you added color into his life. He was like your umbrella on a rainy day, always there to make you feel safe from the storm.
The relationship you had could also be described as like a duet. Separately, you both shined in your own individual ways but coming together created a beautiful harmony. Like in any great duet, there needed to be a moment where your melodies blended together and that moment came in the form of a proposal. Tyson had gotten proposal advice from Gabe, went ring shopping with Sammy and told the WAGs to begin planning a bridal shower for you. After a full year of dating, Tyson proposed to you in his childhood home in St. Albert over the Christmas break and even flew out your parents to be there for that special moment. It was the first time that either of your families had met each other and it felt like your families were meant to be connected. You were so excited to become Tyson’s long term better half. He knew in his heart that he had found his ideal duet partner and you felt the same way. Everything was falling into place until the notes started to fall flat.

star-crossed
Not long after you had gotten engaged, a so-called fan made a comment on your engagement post about how your relationship with Tyson was rushed, criticized how he shouldn’t marry someone like you and that your intentions for the relationship weren’t right. Although this person was a stranger hiding behind a screen, their words were painful. You told Tyson about what you read and he reassured you that regardless of what was being said, everything was going to be okay. You had gotten through the criticism of your relationship before but this comment lingered in your mind. Your thoughts began to race. Maybe, this person could be right; you and Tyson were going to rip right at the seams and that what you had together was just simply a perfect dream. You had also wondered if your relationship with Tyson was flying just a bit too close to the sun since it all happened so quickly and you had only been together for a year. Were you and Tyson simply star crossed lovers who weren’t meant to be together long-term? Maybe it was the insecurity talking but you weren’t so sure.
good wife
You had constantly wondered if you would be a good wife for Tyson. You knew that Tyson would be a great husband to you but you couldn’t say the same for yourself. Yes, you checked all of the boxes for domestic tasks but you weren’t fully sure on the emotional side of marriage. You had prayed to God for help to become a good wife for him. As desperate as it sounds, you and Tyson needed each other not just for emotional and physical comfort but also for stability. Both of your careers were demanding and being able to come home to each other when Tyson wasn’t away in another part of the country silenced that demand. Things weren’t always perfect and you both fought sometimes; although he had never criticized your introvertness, Tyson would sometimes tell you to be more fun and to stop controlling everything. However, it was difficult to let go when you had some sort of control over everything in your life and you didn’t like to lose control. It was one of the main reasons why you didn’t drink or use illicit drugs. Your relationship wasn’t a co-dependent one; neither of you controlled the relationship and you would be fine without each other. Despite this, you had reached to a point to where you couldn’t imagine living in the apartment without Tyson. The two of you had made that space into a home and you were also terrified of being alone after being with someone you deeply loved.
cherry blossom
No one could question the chemistry that you and Tyson had together. You both knew that you probably couldn’t find that same connection in other people. As a sign of his commitment to you, Tyson took you to look at homes out in Cherry Creek. This neighborhood was where most of the team lived so ideally, it was where Tyson wanted to live and raise a family with you. You wanted to live in the Highland neighborhood, which had more historic homes. Although no down payments or offers would be put down anytime soon on the homes you saw, it was something nice to do together. After looking at the homes, Tyson took you to a cafe to discuss what you saw. You and Tyson bickered throughout the discussion. Neither of you wanted to come to a mutual agreement of which neighborhood to live in. Like cherry blossoms blooming, you both knew that you didn’t want this relationship to fade easily and blow away. Despite the disagreements, you could work it out because even in nature, timing is everything and you and Tyson just had to work through it. It was just a rough patch that you could get over and come out stronger on the other side or so you had thought.
simple times
As time moved forward, you wish you could go back to the simple times of your relationship before you had gotten engaged. Although Tyson was open to staying engaged for a while and waiting to have the wedding, the external forces of society were pushing onto you. No matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t avoid questions about the wedding. It’s a topic that came up constantly because you were engaged. There were also a lot of little things related to the wedding that kept building up onto each other and adding onto the stress. First it was finding the perfect location; you and Tyson couldn’t decide if you should get married locally in Denver, go back up to Canada, have a destination wedding somewhere warm or even go to your hometown to host the ceremony and whether it should be indoor or outdoor. For some reason, none of the dresses you tried on at the local bridal shops were quite the right one. Tyson even graciously offered to fly you out to New York to try on dresses at Kleinfeld Bridal but you declined. Tyson tried with what he could but he wasn’t much help either. Tyson was fine with whatever you wanted to do, even if that meant deciding to elope without any of his family there. He even tried to encourage you to take time off from wedding planning but you were so determined to get it done because it became a goal and you never gave up on your goals. The WAGs tried to help you with your planning but things just weren’t going right. You just wanted to skip this round of the relationship and go straight to the part where you were happily married.
if this was a movie
The first big fight came unexpectedly. At the last minute, Gabe and Mel asked if someone could babysit their kids while they went on a long needed date night at some fancy restaurant because their usual babysitter was unavailable and it had taken them months to get the reservations. Tyson volunteered to take on the role since he knew how well you worked with children. As much as you love kids, you didn’t want to babysit because you spend 40+ hours a week working with children. You had expressed to Tyson how you weren’t up to babysitting and he reasoned with you to take up the temporary role. It was only for a few hours and Gabe and Mel would be back that same night. You finally caved in.
It felt weird to be in their home; it was lovely and cozy, filled with nice decor and toys but being in that space made you think about how one day, you and Tyson would have something similar. After Linnea and Lucas were settled into bed, the topic of having children came up. It was something that you and Tyson had seldom discussed. You were both still young and fertile so there was no rush to have kids yet. Having kids fit more in a 5-10 year timeline for you while children fit into a much shorter timeline for Tyson. You wanted to wait until you felt like you were ready and established enough into your career to take a break and become a mother. Seeing the way he interacted with both the kids on the team and away from the team, it further cemented to you that Tyson would be a great father one day, maybe even better than his own father. Being on different pages caused some tension and things started to get heated. To alleviate the tension, you and Tyson had decided to table your conversation until you got home in order to not disturb the kids.
When Gabe and Mel arrived back home, they could sense that something was off between you but decided to not speculate or intervene. When you arrived at home, you continued where you left off and another heated topic came up. You and Tyson hadn’t been physically intimate with each other; you were saving yourself for marriage and he respected that about you. However, Tyson did get frustrated with how you would have hot and heavy makeout sessions and you would tease him but he wasn’t getting any action. Tyson loved you so much that he would rather wait for you than go off and get temporary satisfaction from someone else. You and Tyson had gone back and forth about both becoming parents and the physical process of creating a child and at the end of it, Tyson had decided to pack a bag and spend the night at a hotel after the argument was over. You wish that this was a movie, that he would run back home to you and say that the fight was stupid and everything would perfectly fall into place. Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen that night. You waited up for Tyson but he didn’t come back home that night and you fell asleep with tears in your eyes.
justified
You knew that Tyson was upset with some of the things you said while you argued but you would have never expected for him to leave you. When you had smaller fights before and needed space from each other, Tyson would sleep on the couch. He returned back home in the morning and over an “I’m sorry I did that” breakfast, an apology to each other for the previous night’s argument was exchanged. You both resolved to treat each other right and to do better. It was only one big fight over something that you could compromise on in the future and that didn’t mean the relationship was over.
You both ended up deciding to go to couples therapy to work through some of the problems that were affecting your relationship. At the therapy session, your therapist, Katie, helped to unpack some of the baggage in your relationship and she gave some exercises and suggestions on how to improve things. Tyson was open to speaking with the therapist and applying the changes into your relationship but he knew deep down that you also had to be open to these things as well in order for things to get better.
You could admit that some elements of toxicity began to seep into your relationship and at times, some very harsh and painful things were thrown around whenever you fought. Typically, you started off fighting and hating each other but loving each other in the end like nothing happened. For instance, on the car ride home from cake tasting, Tyson could sense your indecisiveness over choosing a cake flavor and it frustrated him because he just wanted you to know what you wanted so that you could move on to the next step of ordering the cake. He asked you what flavor you really wanted (he preferred the vanilla cake with the strawberry filling) and that led to you fighting about the wedding. You wanted Tyson to help more in regards to that special event but he was doing the best he could. You were both busy people and the season was still going on during this stressful time. The insecurity creeped in and you asked Tyson if he still wanted to go forward with marrying you; in his frustration, he unexpectedly dropped that he didn’t want you. You couldn’t believe the words that came out of his mouth but it hurt so much to hear him say that and you burst into tears. Tyson lied; he still wanted you but he was tired of the constant fighting and just wanted things to be okay. It was draining a lot out of him. He pulled the car over and apologized to you. Tyson promised to you that he will always choose you, regardless of what happens. You tried to justify it all but justification wasn’t the solution to the relationship problems but working through them and treating each other right was. Healing from all of this drama wouldn’t happen in a straight line. It would take some time and many steps forward and some steps back to get through this pain. In the end, you had only hoped that it all would be resolved.
angel
If you were an angel, your insecurities would fade away and the toxicity in the relationship would disappear. You did a lot of things your own way due to your lack of relationship experience but Tyson was understanding and patient with you. You could admit that some of your expectations and ideals of the relationship were a bit high and unrealistic but you also knew that it wasn’t always going to be sunshine and rainbows all the time. It would work itself out over time as long as you kept pushing through it together. If you were both perfect, you and Tyson would never hurt each other the way that you did with your words whenever you argued. You both tried to continue to love each other in spite of these difficulties and even tried to convinced yourself that neither of you would ever have to change because everything would be perfect but it would never be that way.
breadwinner
Despite going to therapy together and attempting to apply what the therapist told you into your relationship, the arguments still continued. However, one of them hit too close to home. After making a game winning goal and being named a star of the game, Tyson came home ecstatic to celebrate his win with his favorite girl but you were asleep. Tyson was still buzzing from the game so he texted JT to go out for a couple of drinks. He felt bad, coming home and leaving you but he also knew that he couldn’t fall asleep. It wasn’t the ideal way he wanted to celebrate that night’s accomplishments; he just wanted to spend time with you. You had been busy with a lot of work things (one of the doctor’s at your clinic suddenly left and you had to pick up their patient load until a new replacement came in) and you didn’t have as much time for Tyson as you did before. He understood that you had a lot going on but it annoyed him that you hadn’t tried to make time for him and were starting to go radio silent on him so that you could fully focus on work. Although you and Tyson hadn’t fully finalized any of the wedding plans and potentially considered pushing the wedding back by a year, you eventually stopped planning for the wedding due to the increasing demands of work.
You had woken up in the middle of the night and noticed that Tyson wasn’t home. You looked at the time and were about to call him when he came through the door. Tyson saw you come down the hallway to approach him but he brushed right past you. You were confused as to why he did that and followed him in the bathroom. Tyson asked you for some privacy but you wanted to know why he was ignoring you. Tyson was visibly annoyed and he closed the bathroom door in your face; he had never done that before. You knew something was up so you waited for him in the kitchen; it was where all of the serious conversations took place. After his shower, Tyson came into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water and some pain meds before going to sleep. He saw you sitting at the table and again you confronted him about what was wrong. Tyson was tired and all he wanted to do was go to bed and reset. Maybe if he had gotten a good night's sleep after drinking, he would be in a better mood tomorrow. Even though you had work in the morning, you didn’t want to go back to sleep without knowing if he was okay. The insecurity creeped in and although you knew in your heart that he would never cheat, you asked Tyson if he had been out with another girl. You had no idea where he was and the game had been over for hours. Tyson angrily responded that he couldn’t believe that you would say something like that when you know that he loves you and you only and he was fully committed to marrying you. Tyson explained that he came home earlier, saw you were asleep and he went out for celebration drinks with JT. He mentioned that you didn’t even send him a congratulations text like you normally would after a win and made a snarky comment that you probably didn’t watch the game. He was partially right; you did watch part of the first period and ended up falling asleep on the couch before waking up to go to bed before the game ended.
Tyson really just wanted to be with you and he tried to be understanding but you put your job above it all. He truly was proud of you and all that you had achieved but Tyson hadn’t even completed college and yet, the girl of his dreams held a graduate degree that she could always fall back on. It didn’t intimidate him but it sure made him feel a little insecure. You and Tyson began to argue about how you weren’t there for him anymore and how busy you were. It was getting late, neither of you wanted to continue to fight; you had work in the morning and Tyson had to prepare for the upcoming East Coast road trip. You had fully expected Tyson to leave just as he did once before but he stayed and slept on the couch. Tyson promised himself that he would never hurt you by leaving you like that again.
camera roll
While Tyson was away on the East Coast, a memory popped up on your phone. It was a picture of you and Tyson, together after a hike at Red Rocks; that image was Tyson’s lock and Home Screen photo. You had hoped that he didn’t go through his camera roll; things were still on shaky ground after your argument about not having time for him anymore and you both decided to take a mini hiatus from each other while he was gone. You had both spent time contemplating on the future of your relationship. Tyson expressed his feelings to the guys on the team and the common piece of advice was for him to let you go. You had caused a lot of distress onto Tyson and the guys didn’t think it was healthy for him to be stuck in a relationship like that. The guys were pro-ultimatum; either you get your stuff together or break up for good and find other better people. Tyson told the guys that he was going to break up with you when he got back home. Tyson didn't really want to end things with you though; he really loved you a lot regardless of what his peers thought but he did wonder if they were right.
As he scrolled through his gallery, he stopped on a picture of the two of you, wearing matching pajamas from the Christmas you got engaged; that image was your lock and Home Screen photo. Another good memory that came up in Tyson’s phone was the photos and videos he took of when you went to family skate together. You didn’t know how to ice skate but luckily, you were engaged to a professional hockey player. Tyson took you out to the Avs practice facility and taught you the ropes of ice skating. It took a lot of bumps, bruises and practice but you were determined to get it down and you did; he was proud of you. He missed you so much and he would do everything in his power to make things right. Something that Tyson never revealed was that he knew that he fell really fast for you but he didn’t care because he had always wanted someone who was just as good as you were in his life and he wanted to experience that same deep love connection that his teammates’ had with their partners. He also felt pressured to lock you down because he knew that you were someone rare and you could have been with anyone else but yet, you were with him. You chose Tyson because you never had a serious boyfriend before and you fell really fast for him as well. The timing didn’t matter because you had each other and you both had waited so long for the right person to come along.
easier said
You and Tyson reconciled just before his birthday in March and celebrated that special day together. Even though you got back together, you and Tyson began to argue a lot more about the future due to the impending trade deadline. Constant rumors were being spread about Tyson being traded away so that the Avs could acquire another asset. It caused a lot of stress and pressure for the both of you; Tyson constantly worried if he had to move and you worried about what would happen if he was traded away. Thankfully, the Avs decided to move some draft picks and some AHL guys to acquire a new player to help them out for a potential cup run. A few days after the trade deadline, Tyson mentioned to you about the Avs annual Mile High Dreams Gala that was coming up at the beginning of April. He was excited to take his fiancée to this special event, however, you didn’t want to go. This caused you and Tyson to drift even further apart. Due to the fact that you and Tyson were recently fighting a lot more than usual, you were scared that something that you disagreed on would be brought up and you would end up arguing with him in front of his peers. You had also stepped out of your comfort zone several times at other team events and you knew how important the gala was but socializing for hours on end, not just at work, drained you. You had expressed your feelings about going to the gala with Tyson and he tried to reason with you to attend with him. He wanted to get dressed up really nice with his lover and show you off to others. No matter how hard he tried, you wouldn’t budge on your decision. Tyson was obligated to go but you were optional so while he was away playing in Arizona, you almost forgot to respond to the invitation and you secretly sent it back with only 1 person from your household attending.
On the day of the gala, you had decided to be the team babysitter that night and left home early to go watch the kids at Gabe and Mel’s home, instead of going out with your fiancé. You didn’t even see Tyson before he went out, which didn’t surprise him. You hadn’t been seeing each other much lately and he thought that maybe you changed your mind on going and that you were getting ready with one of the WAGs. At the event, some people had asked where you were and Tyson didn’t know the answer himself until Ashley, Nazem Kadri’s wife, name dropped that she was going to text you to check on their daughter. Tyson was furious with you; when he had asked you to babysit for Gabe and Mel a while back, you didn’t want to do it at first but gave into the idea and on the night of one of the biggest team events, you opted out and chose to babysit instead. Tyson also felt embarrassed that he was kept out of the loop about this and ended up leaving the gala early, claiming that he ate something that didn’t agree with his stomach.
Upon arriving home from your babysitting gig, you saw Tyson was sitting at the bar and he immediately confronted you on what you did. You noticed that he had already showered and changed out of his suit. You told him that you had previously expressed that you weren’t going to the gala with him and that he knew that you weren’t attending. Tyson mentioned that you didn’t tell him that you were watching the team’s kids that night and you kept telling Tyson to calm down and to move past it but he wouldn’t back down. Tyson was frustrated because you both knew that you didn’t have as much time for each other anymore and going to the gala would give you some time together. You lashed out at Tyson by telling him that your whole life doesn’t revolve around him and he called you selfish. You begged Tyson to take back his hurtful words but he wouldn’t; it was how he truly felt about you. He also made an uncalled for comment underneath his breath about your job and you weren’t having it. You were one of the few WAGs that had such an intense and challenging career. Most of the other girls were either relying on their partner’s income as stay at home moms, were in school, were models/influencers or couldn’t work due to visa restrictions. You loved your job as a pediatric physician’s assistant; you worked extremely hard to get to that point, you also got to help children everyday and you couldn’t imagine leaving it.
You told Tyson that you sacrificed so much to be with him and he asked you to say what you sacrificed for him. You responded that you sacrificed your time and he said that wasn’t a good enough answer because he did the same for you. You didn’t have any other answers for him. Tyson tearfully told you that all he ever wanted from you was compromise and you struggled to give that to him. He put in so much and you didn’t put in enough. You continued to go back and forth until the kitchen went quiet. Tyson walked up to you, cupped your face and he looked at you with distress in his eyes. You could see how much he was hurting; this relationship was easier said than done. You both kept trying and trying but nothing was working. The cycle kept continuing and it needed to stop at some point. Like a soda bottle that had been shaken up too many times, everything spilled out. Tyson planted a kiss on your head, whispered that he was sorry that he couldn’t do this anymore, grabbed his phone, wallet and keys and walked out. It was done; the engagement was over.
hookup scene
You didn’t sleep that night and you waited up all night, hoping that he would call you. You couldn’t bring yourself to contact him because you were so devastated with what had occurred. You left the beautiful ring that Tyson gave you on the counter and began to start putting your things away in preparation of moving out of the apartment that you shared with your fiance. It hurt so much to take down the photos you had together on the wall and to remove yourself from a place you considered to be home. Tyson returned back in the morning after spending the night at EJ’s house and didn’t say a word to you. You couldn’t say anything to him because what could you say to make things better? You both had fought really hard to stay together but there was no amount of false promises and apologies that could fix what was already broken. You moved out by the following afternoon, put your things in storage and temporarily stayed at an Airbnb until you got a new place. No one from the team checked up on you after it was revealed that the engagement was over. Of course, you knew that you weren’t going to hear from Tyson’s mom or Kacey anymore either. The WAGs completely isolated you. You were immediately removed from the groupchat; all of them and the guys, except for Tracey (Cale’s girlfriend) unfollowed you. Even Charlotte, who was the main reason why you got involved with Tyson in the first place, no longer followed you and Mel didn’t say anything to you. You never expressed this to Tyson but you always knew that you weren’t good enough for them anyways because you were so different from them. You tried to bond with the other WAGs but you didn’t do the same things that they did; you weren’t interested in day drinking and you didn’t have as much time to go run off on squad vacations. They constantly were hanging out without you and rarely included you in what was going on. You were so incompatible with them and tried your best to make yourself comfortable with them because through Tyson, you were a part of their group.
After giving yourself some time to heal from your previous relationship, you tried to move on with someone new. One of the guys you met was the brother of one of your co-workers and you went on a date with him. The date was fine; you went golfing at TopGolf but the entire time you were there, you kept comparing him to Tyson in your mind. He didn’t make you feel the way that Tyson did. He couldn’t make you laugh the way Tyson did. His smile didn’t light up the room like how Tyson’s does. The new guy wasn’t so bad but it wasn’t the same. You and the new guy decided that you wanted to see each other again so you invited him over for dinner at your new place and he never showed up. Having someone say that they were going to be there for you and abandon you painfully ripped into you. You wished that you and Tyson just held on to the love you had for a little longer. You knew deep down that you weren’t truly ready to date again and you took a break from dating.
Tyson was already a hot commodity in the Denver area but none of the new people he tried to move on with panned out. He was back where he was before, dealing with the same type of girls before he met you. He didn’t want to mindlessly hook up with someone or have someone who wanted to be more like an accessory than a partner. Tyson craved a deeper, real connection and he felt like he was wasting his time so he decided to take a break from dating.
keep looking up
Tyson continued to go to therapy to work on himself and he even got himself a puppy to keep him company. He also continued to focus on hockey and achieved his dream of winning the Stanley Cup. However, it didn’t feel right to Tyson to celebrate this major accomplishment without you there. In fact, throughout their Cup run, Tyson began to miss you. There was no playoff WAG jacket with his name on the back for you to look cute in. There was no you congratulating him with tears of joy streaming down your face. There was no necklace for you to match his Cup ring. There was no day with the Cup with you by his side. He wondered if you had missed him too.
At the team celebration party, Tyson had a good time but in the back of his mind, the memory lingered of how you came into his life 2 years ago and now, you were gone. Charlotte had brought her new SoulCycle bestie around that replaced you for Tyson to meet but she was more interested in talking with the WAGs and she obviously had a crush on Mikko. After having a little too much Coors Light and multiple long rants with different people at the party, Tyson drunkenly revealed that he wasn’t mad at you anymore over what happened and that he was going to try to open his heart to dating again. That true love that you had shared together turned into pain but Tyson decided to keep looking up and moving forward in spite of what happened.
what doesn’t kill me
Work still continued to consume you and you went to therapy to work on yourself and your issues. You had also started to make new friends. Thank goodness most of your new friends were not Avalanche fans but they were more interested in the Broncos and Rockies. It still stung sometimes when you heard or saw anything related to the Avs. Of course, you had heard about the Avs Cup win and you were happy for Tyson. Sometimes, you did miss him and you also wondered what it would have been like to be a hockey WAG to witness your partner achieving their goal of winning the Cup. You still hadn’t dipped your toes back into the dating pool since the last guy but you were going back to being content in your single life. The golden hour moment of your relationship with Tyson had faded to black but it was okay because what didn’t kill you made you stronger.
there is a light
There was a light at the end of this dark tunnel. Tyson always told you that you had a light inside of you that lit up his world. He was right and he brought his own light into your life. One thing that you and Tyson could mutually agree on was that there was no bad blood between the both of you and the relationship failed due to incompatibility. Maybe if you and Tyson had dated for a little longer before getting engaged, maybe some of the problems that plagued your relationship would come to the surface before deciding to spend the rest of your lives together. Although things didn’t end ideally, you got to be loved by an amazing guy, who didn’t always treat you right but whenever he did, he treated you so well. Tyson got to be loved by someone who loved him for who he truly was and not for his money or status as a hockey player. You came into each other's lives for a reason and the tumultuous relationship you had taught you both something. It taught you what truly being in a relationship is like and that you should loosen your grip on your life. It taught Tyson that it was okay to not have what everyone else has and that the right person will come around at the right time. It both taught you that rushing into a relationship doesn’t always work out and that taking the time to get to know someone (even if it takes a while) will always pay off in the end because compatibility is essential and compromise is important. You both had forgiven each other for what had happened in the relationship. You and Tyson were both grateful and thankful to share part of your lives together. You both still held love for each other in your hearts but knew that breaking up was the best thing to do at the end of the day.
gracias a la vida
As you walked through City Park on a Sunday afternoon in October, you decided to listen to a podcast. As you scrolled through to find a show to listen to, you noticed that your AirPods had connected to a song instead. You recognized the song as gracias a la vida by Kacey Musgraves and you instantly knew that Tyson was close by. The only reason why your AirPods were connected to his phone was because when you and Tyson went to visit his family before you got engaged, you attempted to watch a movie together on his phone before Tyson, a noted plane sleeper, went to sleep. It was also easier for you to connect your own AirPods instead of sharing them separately. Just as he did when you met at Charlotte and Nathan's housewarming party, Tyson was quietly observing you. He thought about disconnecting your AirPods but he saw that you were walking towards him. When you got to him, using the same tone when you first spoke to him, you told him that you had noticed he was watching you. Tyson chuckled at your words; you missed the sound of his laugh. He asked how you were doing since the last time you saw each other and you began exchanging small talk with each other. Although you and Tyson were lost together as lovers, you didn’t lose each other as friends. You also didn’t completely cut ties with each other after splitting; you both refollowed each other on social media, quietly kept tabs on each other and watched each other’s stories but you hadn’t communicated with each other since you broke up. Tyson explained that he was at the park to take his dog for a walk after a vet appointment. The dog was so adorable and precious. You and Tyson had talked about getting a dog before but were waiting until you moved into a house together so that the dog would have enough space. Of course, you couldn’t agree on what breed of dog to get.
You wished deep down that you had compromised more with Tyson. You could admit that you were a bit selfish when you were together but that was part of how you controlled things in your life. Tyson was a great guy who had some wounds from his past but he carried it so well. The love that you used to share together reminded you both that you were worthy of great love. Even though you hurt each other a lot, you missed Tyson and his sweet smile so much and he missed you too. The only thing in the world you wanted to do at the moment was hold his hand and walk around the park with him. You had wanted to start over and forget that your engagement had failed and you had wondered if Tyson felt the same. Tyson wanted to ask you if you had moved on with someone new but you asked him if he had instead. He had gone on dates here and there but the spark just wasn’t there. Tyson was still single and it gave you a little hope that maybe you could get back together. Tyson looked down at the time and mentioned that he had to go. You hadn’t seen him in a long while and you didn’t want him to leave. Tyson picked up on your body language, just as he had done before and he embraced you into a hug. Before he officially left, you whispered to him gracias a la vida.
Thank you for this life. He smiled back at you after letting you go.
Soon after Tyson left, you sent a text to a familiar number asking them if they were free that upcoming weekend to meet up for breakfast at the Bluebird Cafe. You continued on your walk and only hoped that they would say yes.
