VIOLENCE TW (it’s implied but paints hell of a picture) & ABUSE TW
“IT’S HARD TO TRUST WHEN ALL YOU HAVE FROM THE PAST ARE REASONS NOT TO …”
Have you seen LIZZIE VELNIAS around Faerune? They’re a WITCH who REJECTS the Unseelie Queen’s reign. People have heard they’re ADVENTUROUS, CHEERFUL & LOYAL but can also be BATSHIT, AIRY & CALLOUS. We’ll see where they fall when the revolution arrives, but until then they can be found working as a GRAVE DIGGER.
LIZZIE AT A GLANCE
NAME: Elizabeth Corie Velnias ALIASES: Lizzie - call her Elizabeth and she’ll set you on fire.  Only her mom called her that and she hates the name with a passion.  Pet names given to her by Scout:  Honeybee, Love Bug, Baby Girl.  From Geal:  Little One.  AGE: 26 [Born March 23rd] AFFILIATIONS: Nothing of note at the moment OCCUPATION: Grave Digger at the Faerune Cemetery.  With Geal stepping down to “take a break,” Lizzie has picked up a lot more responsibility at the cemetery. GENDER/PRONOUNS: Cis Female, She/Her SEXUALITY: Unknown.  Demisexual??? (still a virgin) QUIRKS: Emotionally stunted; Lizzie tends to act far younger than she really is.  Hair is permanently colored pink by magic as it’s Lizzie’s favorite color.  Her entire vibe is pastel goth/satanist.  Her bed is completely covered in stuffed animals that Lizzie likes to be buried under when she goes to bed. Crippling claustrophobia thanks to her mother.  She’s actually a very good skateboarder.  One of her favorite pastimes is going out with Scout to skate.  Lizzie likes to make a controllable flaming rabbit that she plays with; it reminds her of Mr. Rabbit and gives her a great deal of comfort.  Before meeting Scout one of the ways Lizzie coped with stress and had fun was kidnapping people and torturing them in the woods.  She still has the occasional aggressive urge and will stalk people because it’s funny and will kill every few months when she just can’t take it anymore.  That’s what’s so great about being a grave digger, it’s so easy to dispose of bodies.  But really, she’s trying not to kill so much anymore.  She doesn’t want to make Scout and Geal sad.  Besides her occasional lapses, Lizzie generally robs the bodies at the cemetery and will take various body parts to try using in dark magic.  Or to just collect them in resin jars because she thinks they look cool.  MARKEKTABLE/TRADE SKILLS: Lizzie mostly pawns off shit she finds with bodies, but she’s also been working with Scout to try to make different potions that she can use for trading.
BIOGRAPHY
Lizzie was always different from the other kids.  Maybe it was because there were rumors in town of her family being devil worshipers.  The other children would always stare at her, whispering to one another.  Sometimes they would throw rocks, calling her a demon.  This was a god-fearing town afte rall.
Sometimes the rumors get it right.  Her parents, especially Mother, cared more about their rituals, the underworld, more than anything else.  More than their own daughter.  And so, Lizzie was left to fend for herself, playing with her dolls quietly in her room.  She always had to be quiet.  Do as Mother wanted.  If not, she had to stay the night in the cupboard, and Lizzie never liked that.  It was dark, and scary, and full of spiders.
At nine years old things started to change.  Lizzie heard voices vibrating through the walls, the strongest coming from the forest near her town.  Late one night, she snuck out of her window and followed the quiet streets to the outskirts of town.  Wandering through the trees, the little girl tensed as she heard a rustling in the bushes.  A silent scream caught in her throat as something leapt out, only to transform into a relieved giggle at the long, fluffy ears.  It was a cute lil bunny.
Kneeling down, Lizzie held out her hand for the animal to sniff.  A soft smile graced her lips.  As the rabbit moved closer, a voice, clear as day, seemed to emit from it.  It was a little surprising, but the girl was so lonely that any companion was welcomed.
Now sitting, her and the rabbit, his name was apparently Jack, talked all through the night.  It was only as the starting of dawn broke over the treetops that Lizzie remembered that she had snuck out and needed to get home before her parents noticed.  Saying goodbye to her new friend, she ran home with the first smile on her face in a long, long time.
~~~
The next night Lizzie went back to the forest to find Jack.  She wandered for hours but to no avail.  Disheartened, and wondering if she had dreamt him up, the girl returned home, curling under her blankets to cry.
As the tears began to wind down, a voice spoke up from within her room.  Throwing the blanket off of her head, Lizzie quietly called out “Jack,” with utmost adoration.  He was real.  He really was her friend.
Every night for two weeks, Jack would appear in her room, and they would talk and play.  Lizzie made sure to keep her voice down, so her parents wouldn’t come barging in.  For the first time in her life, Lizzie felt heard.  Felt loved.
They would talk about anything and everything.  About how the town’s children treated her, about how her parents ignored her.  Jack had an idea.  She should make them pay.  Teach them a lesson for being so mean.  That was a great idea!  Lizzie was willing to do anything Jack told her.  He was her first friend and she loved him with all her heart.
Following his instructions, Lizzie gathered all the energy inside of her.  Jack said she had a strong current of magic lying dormant in her blood, an untapped potential.  With all her focus, the little girl set her bedroom curtains on fire.  She grinned in glee; Jack was right.  She really could do amazing things.
~~~
The newspapers said it was a great disaster.  Some loose electrical wiring had sparked a fire, and in the crisp autumn air the blaze spread.  The little town didn’t stand a chance.  It was too small to have their own fire station.  No one survived, save for a little girl found wandering down the highway alone in her pajamas.
After that night, Lizzie could not find Jack no matter how hard she tried.  She would sneak out of the orphanage she was stuck in and wander the forest all evening.  She would cry, scream, beg, but still Jack never returned.  She had lost her one and only friend, and she had no idea why.
Once she was old enough, the witch ran away, deciding to try life on her own. She would lie, steal, anything that meant she would survive.  When things got rough, she had her fire to protect her.  She kept away from others, not able to trust another human being.
Scout Williams was one of the few people Lizzie came to trust and love after a lifetime of loneliness.  But when the two had a large fight, they went their separate ways much to the witch’s dismay.  Eventually she wound up in Faerune on a whim, not realizing that she knew of the city because it was her familiar’s hometown.
Reuniting with Scout after a year was hard, but Lizzie couldn’t hold a grudge against the other.  Scout was one of the few people that made her feel loved and wanted, and she didn’t want that to go away again.
AND WHAT HAS BECOME OF YOU?
When Lizzie isn’t busy at the cemetery, helping Scout at her skate shop, or working on her magic, she spends a great deal of time at Duke’s.  Other than that Lizzie’s still as much of a wild card as ever.  She despises the new reign because she can’t stand being told what to do by people (with the exception of Geal).

"completed" side order (got the credits roll and currently have four developer logs), some thoughts about the gameplay + lore under the cut 👍
i really enjoyed playing side order! i felt that a lot of my experiences in salmon run carried over with having to assess situations and maneuver around large mobs of enemy. so it's not much of a surprise to me that the gameplay structure really scratches an itch in my brain...!
i've played side order for around 10 hours so far (5 hour sessions each)... it wasn't intentional, but i really felt that each run taught me something about the chips/specials and i couldn't help but want to give another try again... (and i do appreciate that the game does allow for breaks between runs, even if i didn't utilize it this time around!)
the only thing i didn't like gameplay-wise (so far) was the weighted rates for certain chips depending on palette, i didn't particularly enjoy my run with charger (even though it's my favorite weapon class), but it could've just been bad rng giving me chips that weren't that fun/interesting...? there's some modifications that i want to explore, but it can be hard to do that with the weighted rates.
that said, i personally think the developers did an excellent job of blending together splatoon's mechanics/objectives with the rougelike style of games! i definitely want to play more sometime, there's still a lot of lore, chips, and palettes i've yet to see. i think it's a breath of fresh air from the other singleplayer parts, but i also recognize that it might not be for everyone (the structure of side order inherently requires a lot of patience and endurance).
as for the story and lore bits, i really liked the framework of the memverse! i do think that some of my affection for it stems from the fact that it has some parallels to persona games (i legit messaged a friend saying "omg it's like apathy syndrome but for splatoon"). but i think side order's a pretty fun follow up to octo expansion, i like that there's potential closure for sanitized octolings and whatever happens to the deepsea metro afterwards. i think it's a pretty cool basis for ocs which is nice!
the bits of character interaction were nice too, pearl and marina are endearing and lovely as always (they are so in love)! deep cut reporting on the side order things before/after the campaign was really funny too, i really liked it (especially after watching the nintendo live 2024 concert).
i think i found the story more satisfying than rotm- the stakes made... more sense to me, but also the setup was just, really interesting to me (persona fan moment). i'll need to check more of the dev logs when i unlock them and reread some things, but, overall, really enjoyable!
anyway, the short of it: side order was fun for me because the gameplay scratches the grinding itch in my brain (salmon run player moment), and also i just like the premise of the memverse because i'm a persona fan and it reminds me of that. LOL.

Since yall keep WILDLY misinterpreting my Murder Drones Post
My problem isn’t that the female characters are nuanced, flawed, and complex. Also i am viewing this from a writing viewpoint and not a character analysis viewpoint, since i’m a writer. That means i will be looking at how the characters are portrayed and played out vs how their arcs go and how they change over time.
My problem is that in terms of concept and personality, they’re all nearly identical to each other which is a massive shame. All the female characters are snarky, sassy, and mean. I don’t care if they all have a reason to be, at a certain point it becomes redundant. this is especially obvious compared to the two guy characters we have. Khan and N do have some things in common, but are very different in terms of personality and concept. Both have guilt over their actions in the past, yet they go about it in different ways. N has a hard time asserting himself and tries to make everyone happy, while Khan does his best to carry out his wife’s last wishes while taking care of his daughter despite the fact that he can be a massive coward. Yet the girls all respond to very different events in nearly identical ways. Uzi, J, V, and Doll respond with the same hostility and snark. J, Adult Tessa/Cyn and Doll all become manipulative and hide their true intentions. They all have identical flaws too, that being impulsiveness, anger issues, trust issues, etc. It’s very hard to get interested in characters when they all act the same and thus have similar arcs. Also for those of y’all who brought up Lizzy, sorry i forgot about her, but she acts like Uzi if Uzi didn’t have the solver. Another snarky sassy female character. TBH this really sucks because outside of the copy paste personalities, these characters are really good. Doll was my favorite villain and i found Uzi to be a fun protagonist with an interesting concept. The reveal of Cyn using Tessa’s skin made my. jaw drop. Unfortunately it’s hard to ignore how samey all the female characters are vs the male characters. It’s such a jarring contrast. While it’s okay for a lot of characters to have some things in common (once again, N and Khan) having most of your characters, especially your female characters, exhibit the exact same personality and flaws leads to them bleeding together rather than standing out in a story. lowkey kinda sexist that it’s just the female characters that this happens to lol

Royal/Rebel Swap au part 1/7
So I'm going to split this into parts because it's a lot. I'll be splitting it akin to the doll releases (I will pair Ramona and Cerise together in the same section though) so this part will cover Apple Briar Madeline and Raven.
So the way I interpret this AU I don't want to fundamentally change too much about the character's actions and personality. Just what circumstances would convince them to become Rebel/Royal (at least at first).
Apple:
She's a Rebel mostly because the event is unnecessary and dangerous. She is a royal by birthright, not by chance. Her fairytale is ceremony. Also with the event of the Wonderland takeover by the Evil Queen, Apple is convinced that Raven will be worse whether she intends to or not. She does not want to be unconscious for who knows how long to give Raven or any other enterprising villain the chance to hurt her kingdom.
However that doesn't mean she is "nice" about it. She remains the same type of anxious you see early on in the story. As well an unwittingly condensing which most fairytales tolerate. However Apple pleading with Raven to not poison her wouldn't sound out of character for the actor of Snow White and many believe she is playing a part no matter what types of arguments she gives.
Raven:
Royal because her mom's conditioning works just a smidge better. Now to be clear she still hates her mom, she just doesn't have the words for it. She understands what her role is in the story and intends to do just that and no more. The only evil spell she will try to learn is the poison apple spell and she will try to make it as painless as humanly possible. Through her mom, she learns a warped version of what is good and what is bad, but because her mom very bluntly names the difference she can easily recognize what most of the outside world follows. Except for what love means, people tend to stretch that word a lot in either case. All she knows is that whatever love she recognizes doesn't make her happy. So she often says she doesn't like a lot of things when really she means the opposite.
This adds to the miscommunication and she is perceived as surly and bitter and adequately evil. (This is probably what Lizzie goes through tbh). She wants to learn to be a better queen for both her sake and the surrounding kingdoms, but through her mom, she is convinced she has to temporarily knock out Apple White to make true headway. (Apple's personality isn't easy for Raven to talk to anyhow) To try and prove herself a good queen she tries to undo the extraneous curses on Wonderland (in my head this take more than just saying the curse backwards/coming up with a well said sentence). Which she is allowed to do because that's just trimming the weeds.
Briar:
Rebel-> Royal
Briar recognizes much earlier on that she isn't going have the chance to live a proper adulthood because she'll be in and out of  unconscious for a 100 years at a time with 16-25 years of actually being awake before falling asleep again. And that's not counting her narcolepsy.
Also I use the term Royal in this case very loosely I imagine she will not apply the logic of everyone should follow their Destiny when she switches more so that with the adequate changes to her original tale she'll find something of her fairytale heritage she's more willing to act upon and thus become Royal (which is probably just an extension of Rebellion. This logic will likely apply for all the Rebel-> Royal switches).
She is desperate to escape this enchanted sleep so she is often found trying to negotiate with Faybelle/studying in her own time to find out how to break this curse but her kingdom is a 100 years behind so it would take a while to catch up to whatever demand Faybelle proposes. (I'd like to imagine that when the dark fairy was uninvited to the birthday of Sleeping Beauty there was a political proposal that the kingdom was rejecting and making a large public show of it).
Madeline:
This one is difficult because Maddie is functionally a Royal already. As I've typed that out that should make it easy yes? No. To keep her wacky charm when she picks a side I think she would be invested trying to tell her second parent's story. She still loves her dad to pieces but telling the same exact tale everyone expects of her bores her to bits. She can argue she's technically following the rules.

Ever since I was mildly horrified that Colin Firth is a fancast for Lisa Kleypas's Lord Westcliff (by Lisa herself which.... come on, you need to pick someone who is not hot and yet inexplicably super attractive because of his "vitality" or whatever, Lisa), I've come to realize people actually liken Westcliff to Mr. Darcy, and even call It Happened One Autumn a 'spicy" version of Pride and Prejudice which.... well, we won't get into that particular suggestion, buuuuut I do think likening Darcy to Westcliff is kind of a disservice to both characters (and calling it "spicy" Pride and Prejudice is a disservice to both texts).
For all that Westcliff is shown as this perfect paragon of aristocratic virtue, he's honestly.... kind of not. Apart from him and Darcy sharing a sense of duty and a degree of aristocratic snobbery (which, tbh, most aristocrats or gentlemen would have at the time), they really aren't all that similar personality-wise
Do I think the narrative about Darcy being a brooding borderline douchebag was pushed by by fans post-1995 Pride and Prejudice? Maybe. To a degree. But let's be real here, Westcliff comes way closer to being a dbag than Darcy ever does, particularly his hot-and-cold behavior with Lillian (the time he calls her an easy target for St. Vincent and then immediately pounces on her and fingers her in his butterfly garden comes to mind). Darcy's behavior towards Lizzy is fairly consistent; it's just, they both misinterpret one another's actions until the proposal makes everything clear. That's not to say they don't change their attitudes afterwards, but there was always civility at the least.
And I don't think Darcy is a super broody type, but he is definitely shy around people he doesn't know (awkward too), and seems like the type to socialize with a few close friends (like I'm convinced his only confidantes are Bingley, and then his own cousin Col. Fitzwilliam). Westcliff on the other hand displays no qualms about socializing in large groups, in fact, he seems to command a lot of attention in large group settings like balls and the big house parties he hosts (routinely, based on Secrets of a Summer Night, where he's described as an accomplished host).
I know it's hard to compare a text with on-page sex to a text that is much older and has no point of comparison, but there was this detail in Secrets of a Summer Night that stood out to me:
Tumblr media
This is veering into headcanon territory but the more generous headcanon I have regarding Darcy's premarital sex life is largely "widows" and "older women" and that too... I imagine it's a limited number (otherwise, he's a virgin. or partially a virgin; that's my favorite). What I'd never think Darcy would do is "join in" with any village wenches in Lambton (a combination of his shyness and upper-class snobbery about socializing with the lower classes for fun). Nor do I think he'd he exhibitionist enough to do things with paramours at parties where friends could see him. Interestingly, in IHOA, Livia comments that Westcliff has had a few discreet affairs and nothing more, but between a secluded sister and a friend who routinely goes around town with him, I believe Simon Hunt lol; that being said Westcliff is deffo more of a society affair type than a sex worker/courtesan mistress type. To be clear, this isn't me judging Westcliff for having sex with a lot of women, it's just, again, for all that he outwardly behaves in a proper fashion, he really isn't, and has relatively relaxed views on propriety, even as he judges Lillian for her lack of it at first.
In his second proposal to Elizabeth, Darcy basically said he understands that "no means no", while Westcliff..... does not quite understand that.
Ways Westcliff is similar to Darcy:
They both are brought to their knees by women who initially don't fit within their notion of a "right" spouse. But that's such a broad trope, as is the fact that they both "save" their heroines in some sense.
There's a decent amount of language in P&P describing Darcy as a a fair-minded master and "liberal"; while I don't know enough to speculate on his actual politics (though I have read some pieces that suggest he might be, based on, among other things, the real-life figure Jane Austen may have named him after, the Earl Fitzwilliam), what we do know is that he's liberal in the sense of being a very involved master at his estate, liberal with money where his estate and tenants are involved. Basically, he's not stodgy and backwards, just like Westcliff is when it comes to his estate and tenants. Kleypas takes Westcliff's liberal attitudes a step further by aligning him with progressive causes and progressive politicians.
Tumblr media
Look, both Westcliff and Darcy are classist to a degree; both initially balk at marrying women with connections to trade, but ultimately, they a) go ahead with marrying them anyway and b) we know they like to associate with people in trade in other ways. For example, Darcy and Bingley are good friends in the way that Westcliff and Simon Hunt are friends. Plus, we know Darcy gets on really well with Elizabeth's Aunt and Uncle Gardner (who are in trade), to the point that they're frequent visitors at Pemberley after their marriage. Basically, their snobbery is not universal.
Westcliff and Darcy are good to their siblings but even here, the actual sibling relationships are different. Westcliff is closer in age to both his sisters so their relationship is (mostly) noninterfering (tbh Westcliff exercises remarkable forbearance when McKenna returns) and Westcliff is less high-handed than I imagine Darcy is with Georgiana who, based on their age gap, likely regards him as a second father of sorts.

[Not an idea, more on info from a past smp!]
X-life is one of the servers apart of scott's "Life series" (One life, X-life, afterlife, etc.), wherein each player starts with one heart and gains a heart everytime they die. If they die while having all 10 hearts, you'd be out of the series. X-life is a personal favorite of mine tbh.
A major point in the smp was the start of a religion over a donkey. Lore-wise "the one true jeremy" tasked Joel in starting the Church of Jeremy. Based on the infro from the X Life wiki, ""the one true jeremy" appreciates when other animals are named after him. He promises longer lives and rumor has it that there is another life after our 10th. The Jeremy life where we live on through the body of Donkey Jeremy." Hence the name "Jeremyism", based on the donkey's name. A lot of people called it a cult, the members deny it being one. One major "plot-line" is that Lizzie, a member of The Coven and a former enemy to Jeremyism, was the original founder (yeah I aint explaining that lmao).
Another thing about Jeremyism is "The Book of Jeremy", which pretty much were basic rules the members of Jeremyism had to follow (No I'm not going into details there). One of the rules back then went along the lines of "Scott was not allowed." (Which probably was the oldest occurance of scott constantly being against joel)
The major twist is that later in the series, joel creates a Death House, with the prize for clearing it is becoming the new leader of Jeremyism (spoilers: Scott cleared it at half a heart)
With Scott now being the leader of Jeremyism, he planned a "smooth takeover" and changed a few rules of the Book of Jeremy. Later on he finds out about secret lairs of the Jeremyism members and a goal to take down Scott in which he made the decision to take down Jeremyism, even if he goes down with it.
Jack, one of the members of the smp who named himself Jeremy, had lost his last life and wrote down a will (which both callum and scott had to follow because it said so) and wrote down how he should have a funeral held for him. Scott took this as an opportunity to destroy the church and everyone in it. With some slight modifications, a rigged TNT trap, some lava and some wither potions, he was able to kill everyone attending the funeral. Including himself. (Recommend watching it, it looked pretty cool) and casually said that Jeremyism is over and just went over the rest of Jack's will.
[TLDR: Joel gets contacted by a donkey, starts a cult relegion named jeremyism, writes a book about the rules, makes a rule about scott not being allowed near jeremyism, scott didnt like that, coven was formed and was "declared" as an enemy to jeremyism, the coven made peace with them, apparently lizzie is the original founder idk how, joel built a death house and promised whoever wins becomes the leader of jeremyism, scott wins and makes slight changes to jeremyism, the members didn't like that and planned to overthrow him, Jack (one of the memebers) died, Scott and Callum were asked to fufill his will and a funeral was held for him. Before that tho, scott rigged the church with lava, tnt, and potions and basically killed everyone inside the church, with some dying twice. Scott declares that jeremyism is no more and the server moves on until the inevitable end of X Life.]
-✨️ anon (haha guess who i mainly watch)
Just- *pushes this across the table for newer folks*
I will say though that half of the coven literally could not care less about Jermemyism, you have no idea how funny it was to be a Gem viewer watching this all unfold. The episodes were like, "guys guys cmon look at my pretty plants!!!" *watches silently as Joey and Joel argue about shadows* "hiii Blue 💞" "GEM COME WITH US JEREMYISM HAS SENT SPIES" Katherine: I was just trying to read ;-;
Comedy gold, honestly

Can i just say that I love the 'all marriages are arranged marriages AU' i hope i got the order right.
It is just amazing.
One of the absolute highlights that i need to address
That Pix by being his weird immortal wandering self managed to just. Make it so the leaders need to fight all the wars (also his country just being a democracy at this point with Pix as 'leader' for when war happens so he can fix it) amazing. 10/10 I love it so much.
Now. A thing that i am curious about.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall between Xornoth's and Lizzie's meeting where both of them somehow manage to get their little brothers engaged without it being on purpose.
Like. What kind of weird game of chicken were they playing? Where they just saying stuff expecting the other to back down but neither did and woops now we gotta plan a wedding. Woopsie.
And Scott!! Just wanting to stay inside while he tries to deal with his ice which his brother helps with.
Surprise! You need to move now because wedding *jazz hands*
God this whole AU is just so funny to me.
I love it. It is beautiful!
close enough XD
Now excuse me for a moment while i go squeal to my cat about how PEOPLE LIKE MY THINGS!
ahem. yes. anyway.
Pixlriffs accidentally defining the sociopolitical landscape of multiple kingdoms because of his tendency to randomly show up and prank people is one of my favorite things. I'm very excited to get to his backstory fic.
So the good news is you will get to be a fly on the wall for that! At some point. Because that will actually be included in the fic.
The tldr as it currently stands (with the disclaimer that currently it exists only in outline form and the chances of it changing dramatically when i actually sit down to write it are considerably more than zero) is that Xornoth's fault in the matter was mostly that they were a bit caught up in the Seabling chaos of the combined effect of Jimmy's tendency to leap headfirst into things without thinking, and Lizzie's professionally bardic dedication to "yes and". There was a little bit of "game of chicken" happening but that was mostly between Jimmy and Fwip. Rivendell's direct involvement was an unexpected (for everyone) last minute addition to the situation. (And that part is a bit Xornoth's fault, though not their intention at all.)
Scott is absolutely appalled at the idea of moving to the swamp tbh. None of his current wardrobe is at all suitable for the climate or the environment and he can work with green if he must but brown is absolutely not his color. And that is a whole lot of innocent bystanders in the water that he might freeze at anytime and not be able to undo
awwwww, thank you so much! I'm so glad you are enjoying it. I've been having a lot of fun putting it together and seeing so many people get invested has been amazing.

Tag Game: OC interaction
I'm finally catching up on tag games! Thanks both @tildeathiwillwrite and @illarian-rambling for the tags! I'll do both here if that's okay!
Rules: Provide a short description of your oc, then using the description given by the person who tagged you, describe how you think the two of them would interact.
@tildeathiwillwrite's oc: Hector Epsilona is Caenum's resident Watcher (which is a detective/bodyguard/mercenary-type job). He knows the law (and its loopholes) very well, and uses both extensively, and enjoys a small amount of freedom to operate outside the law if he sees fit. He is extremely protective of and attached to those he cares about, especially his apprentice, Luc. He is generally polite, if a bit stern, and is always looking for a way to turn something into a lesson. I used the Wheel again (it's a brilliant idea!) and got Sophie from my MG werewolf WIP
My OC: Sophie Beatrice Larsen is a 12 years old and is a sixth grader at Forest Hills Elementary. She's 100% in her "weird 12 year old" phase and embracing and loving every second of that. She firmly believes mythological creatures are real and will go to the ends of the earth to prove they actually exist. She's delightfully weird, incredibly passionate, and super curious. She's naturally good at tracking and investigating and looking for clues and asking questions. She's also got a large amount of sass for such a tiny human and won't just standby in the face of injustice. How I think they'd interact: Sophie would probably idolize Hector, tbh. I mean, he's a detective??? She's absolutely taking notes and copying every single thing he does so she can be a better detective too. Whether or not Hector is chill about this, I have no clue XD ---
@illarian-rambling's oc: OC: Elsind is a 20 year old changeling whose true form looks like a mannequin wrapped in raw meat with five fins ringing its face, and who can transition between a solid and liquid state. They change their disguise frequently (they can only do people, not animals) and use the pronouns of whatever face they’re wearing. As a person, Elsind is anxious, easily flustered, cries a lot, and is overall very kind-hearted, despite working as an assassin for a rebel cell. She ended up in that line of work because she wants revenge for what the nobility of her home put her through - kidnapping her at thirteen to serve as a court freak. He thinks if he can assassinate his target, he can earn his courage back and be more than another discarded toy of the ruling class, even if the idea of killing someone makes him sick. Indeed, classism is where Elsind gets very passionate, as well as talking about romance novels. They long for love, even if they think no one would accept a changeling without a disguise. I would also say she’s chronically unlucky. If anyone is going to slip in the mud in his nice new dress, it’s Elsind. All I have written down on their character notes is “eager to please, easily overwhelmed, great combo of traits,” which is pretty much Elsind’s deal. The Wheel has chosen Lizzie--also from my MG werewolf WIP. I suppose it's appropriate that the best friends get chosen together (though for what it's worth, Sophie would be FASCINATED by Elsind and would beg for them to change their face and show her what his true form is and would 100% love her true form) My OC: Elizabeth Page (Lizzie) is also a 12 year old 6th grader at Forest Hills Elementary. She has pretty debilitating POTS symptoms and is often dizzy, fatigued, and in pain. She's incredibly loyal, loving, and kind. She really sees the best in people. She's also a werewolf. Because werewolves are so often depicted as monsters and were nearly hunted to extinction in the 1500s, it's against werewolf law to let nonwerewolves know to keep them safe. Lizzie adores Sophie and wants to help with the investigations but she's not allowed to tell and she spends the first chunk of the book terrified that Sophie won't accept her if she finds out the truth. How I think they'd interact: Listen. A huge proportion of my characters are shapeshifters in someway, so it's no surprise I got a shapeshifter when I pulled a character at random. But I think the fact the wheel pulled Lizzie to meet Elsind is a really good match. Lizzie's also incredibly anxious, kindhearted, and ALSO ready to seek revenge. A big plot point is that Sophie and Lizzie find a new kid who was just recently turned into a werewolf (Lizzie was born into a werewolf family), and Lizzie's ready to square up with whoever it was that attacked a 12 year old boy. So I think Lizzie and Elsind would probably definitely get along.
I'm nervous to tag people because I'm going to try to get through the rest of the tag games and I only have like 3 or 4 people I know are okay with tags and I don't really want to spam tag anyone, so... open tag?? (if you want to be tagged, please let me know!)

2, 32, 36, 50 for the ask game 📖 :)
Thank you for the asks! 💖 Okay, here we go *cracks knucles*
2. Favorite fantasy book(s)
I have to admit I haven't read fantasy for a while! But I used to be obsessed with Terry Practhett's Discworld series in my early teens, and it still has a special place in my heart. The Hogfather and Going Postal in particular. Pratchett's views were so amazingly progressive for a male fantasy author writing in the 90s/early 00s - I haven't realised it back then but I think it definitely helped to shape my worldview!
32. Name your favorite author(s)
It changes quite a lot so it is hard to say. But I'll go with Margaret Atwood (though it's sometimes a bit hit or miss), Oscar Wilde, Carol Ann Duffy for poetry and Jon Ronson for non-fiction.
36. Your absolute most favorite character(s) from any book you've ever read.
Aa that's such a hard question!
Okay, this may be a really basic answer, but I do like Lizzie Bennett. She's smart and outspoken, she clearly cares about people around her, but she's also a flawed human being. She has a good character arc imo - throughout P&P, she learns to overcome some of her - well, prejudices - and ends up a better person because of it.
Next is Porcia from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (not that Porcia, although she's really cool as well!). Is she my favourite because of my ancient Rome obsession? Well... But no, although she has so few lines in the play, her character still manages to shine through. She's smart, brave and incredibly loyal. Also just the right amount of unhinged, with the whole stabbing herself in the tight thing.
Honorary mention to Holden Caufield from Catcher in the Rye. I love first person narration and here especially, you can see he's just a confused kid who feels everything deeply and is clearly suffering. I just want to give him a hug. Also, he's genuinely concerned about the girls around him and his relationship with his sister is really sweet.
(Also TGG's Jordan Baker, mostly for the aesthetic tbh. Aloof androgynous icon!)
50. What kind of book have you never read but always hope to find at some point in the future?
How To Make the Right Decisions and be A Functional Adult Human Being: An Easy Step-by-step Guide.
Jokes aside, I absolutely need to get more into Kafka. I mean it's borderline embarrassing at this point how little of his works I've read, given the fact that I live in Prague.

Chip plays guitar by the way real true and canon in my head.
His guitar is older than he is, it's been through so many hands. It's chipped and cracked, there's dents in it and the paint is chipping a little bit. The strings are dirty as hell and he is in MUCH need of a change (but it's kind of hard to find a change of strings when that's probably the last thing on his mind). It wont stay in tune since the tuning pegs are broke (if he wants to tune it he needs a pair of pliers).
He's surprisingly good at playing, if he had a slightly better guitar he would probably sound a lot better tbh (sure it's not the instrument that makes the musician but by god would it do him wonders to have an in tune guitar).
He will play for anyone to ask and he knows so many songs, no he does not know how to read sheet music, no he does not know a single thing about guitar except that funny notes go bwang. And this has somehow got him to where he is.
He plays Ollie to sleep some nights, plays for Gillion until his fingers are sore and he can barely touch anything due to how bad they hurt. He sits with Jay and lightly plucks the strings as she sits there and examines the guitar way too closely (he is so suspicious of her). He's so overprotective of his guitar and will barely let anyone else touch it. The only person who he will relinquish his guitar to is Lizzie but yknow. She knows. He knows. They learned together how to play.

okokokok i raise you teresa reading sense & sensibility honestly!!! elinor pushing through grief and loss and hardship with no ability to take up a sword and change her circumstances, and the drama of marianne being taken advantage of for having the courage to love freely…. i think she’d wanna gut mr willoughby tbh!!
Tumblr media
Teresa reading any of the JA novels tbh!! But YES S&S is a fantastic one! I think as an older sister too (at least, that's my headcanon- Vivar mentions her sister, Maria, and in the books it's Ramon, so I say Teresa is the eldest child/sister, and I say she has both siblings!) she can really relate to Elinor- she has to take care of her family first, to put her own emotions and heartbreak aside, especially in times of great change and tragedy. She has to be the strong one. Teresa would definitely see herself in Elinor, and though I don't talk about her a lot because there's nothing about Maria in canon and she's basically a blank slate, I think Maria being like Marianne is a great dichotomy between the two.
I always thought of Maria being the baby of the family, so she gets away with a little more than Teresa did- she's also the youngest daughter, and while Teresa probably has a little more pressure to marry well, Maria more than likely doesn't. Maria can be a romantic, to chase after who she wants, though I like to think she's a little more airheaded than Marianne, less bold, but just as excitable. That one scene in the 1995 P&P with Lizzie and Maria Lucas makes me think of their relationship- Teresa guiding and teasing the overly worried Maria. "Mariah, this is your trunk and these are your gowns. You may arrange them in any way you wish- Lady Catherine will never know!" Also that scene where Mariah tells Lizzie to hurry downstairs and does a little spin- that seems like a thing Maria would do! Excitable and fun and so young.
And YES she would want to gut Willoughby for being such a rake and a terrible person!! Especially for knocking up a 15 year old and leaving her to fend for herself!! For the heartache he put Marriane through as well. Teresa understands the economics very well and knows that love sometimes isn't enough to make a relationship work- money is just as important. But it doesn't stop her from breathing a sigh of relief when Marianne dodges a bullet when he leaves her. Sam and I like to think Sharpe gets P&P for her and they read it together, and when they go to Yorkshire and meet a George Wickham they look at each other like 😳😳😳 mr willoughby and wickham found dead more news at 11

Hey, I saw your post about female characters being ignored and not cared about, one thing I know and tha I've seen is that; even if the female characters and side characters were all female—they would still genderbend them, or latch onto two male characters who have done no shit and give them better characterisation, the fandom will also flatten, cut out, and remove important characteristics of the important female characters, while giving important hc canons and what not to the two male characters.
It is plain old fandom misogy and has always been there from the beginning.
"Even when women and girls are at the forefront of the story, men will always be seeked out in whatever ways possible, and centralised—female characters on the other hand, will always be judged or ignored; people do not want to admit it, but they still have internalised misogyny to worked on, 'fandom is not activism' gives them an excuse and cover to not examine, women's stories or inner lives don't and have never mattered to a lot of people in varying degrees."
Overall, I just resonate with your frustrations and thought I was the only one . . .
Oh, you have come to the RIGHT place, my friend, I rant about this every other day at minimum.
FEMALE CHARACTERS!! WILL ALWAYS!!!! BE JUDGED OR IGNORED!!!!!!!!! Like. Chainsaw Man and Game of Thrones/ASoIaF have been praised significantly for letting all of the women in them be extremely flawed and complicated in differing and interesting ways, and I STILL see people not engaging with them and/or reducing most of them to one (1) characteristic. (Cersei is a "crazy bitch," Sansa is "stupid" (??), Catelyn is a terrible mom, Melisandre is...there; Kobeni is obnoxious, Makima is hot, Himeno is the Worst™, etc. etc.) And there should be an overwhelming abundance of increasingly implausible f/f ship content, right? (There isn't.)
(And ohhhhh, people want to erase the importance of women to the overall narrative and its themes (and their canonical importance to other-usually male-characters) so bad, see: Cersei, Himeno, Irene Adler, Mary Morstan, MCU Natasha, Camille O'Connell, Bonnie Bennett, Lizzie Saltzman, Mai from AtLA, Martha Jones, tbh even River gets a fair amount of this. And then some of this is obviously combined with racism when the character is a WOC.)
And I don't have a problem with genderbending characters-gender is complicated, and exploring different facets of how a character might interact with the world if their gender identity changed is incredibly interesting!! But it's...very telling that, historically, I have seen this happen a lopsided amount in one direction, where the female characters are reimagined as men and not vice versa. (Remember when a not-insignificant number of people could only stomach BBC Sherlock/Irene if they reimagined Irene as a man? And then got mad at Elementary for CANONICALLY reinterpreting Watson as a woman? Good times. 🙄)
Just...so many of these wildly-hated or ignored women are...not any less complex than a lot of fictional men who get popular. (I'm sorry, you want to tell me that Misa is not at LEAST as interesting and worthy of sympathy as K*lo fucking Ren? When she has the backstory she does and presents an engaging dichotomy of "bubbly/silly yet murderous" and deconstructs the idea of extreme single-minded devotion NO I'M NOT MAD ABOUT THIS WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT)
And the idea of "fandom is not activism" is supposed to be used in the sense of "Liking a pRoBLeMaTiC dynamic/character in a story doesn't mean you think that behavior is okay in real life" (finding a fictional war criminal interesting doesn't equate to supporting genocide, exploring a toxic dynamic in fic doesn't inherently mean you hate victims, etc.), and "Paying lip service to marginalized/mistreated fictional characters is not the same as helping and supporting actual marginalized/mistreated people in real life." It doesn't mean, "We ignore obvious examples of misogyny and racism and ableism and transphobia and all other prejudices just because this is supposed to be fun." Biases are systemically ingrained, and any given person will bring those biases into all facets of their life; that doesn't just magically stop happening because one of those life facets happens to be a hobby or form of entertainment. Breaking down and dismantling prejudice has to happen on every level, including the """small""" ones.
The only time I have ever seen people engage with multiple female characters on a regular basis while admitting to their importance and narrative complexity and actually creating fanworks about them is Noir (2001). And that's because there are a whole 10 people in this fandom and the show has no men. (Okay, not literally, but you know what I mean.) And it's just so incredibly frustrating that that's the point we have to get to just for it to be possible for people to bother with a work's female characters on an enthusiastic, regular basis. (Because, as you said-that doesn't always happen even when those conditions are met.)
ANYWAY, I'm so sorry for making this response so lengthy, but genuinely I have been holding this in for a long time. TLDR, you're right and you should say it. You definitely aren't the only one, and I'm so, so glad that somebody Gets It.

Ask and ye shall receive
Tbf I don't have a whole lot of extra info since some of these ideas are more developed than others, and I don't really have a plot for any of them (mostly vibes tbh) BUT I shall elaborate.
In order of appearance from the poll:
Pride and Prejudice AU:
Essentially a retelling of this amazing book but with some minor modifications to fit the characters a little better. Idk who here has or has not read the book (if not seriously go read it rn), but Ace will be our Darcy, Pat will be our Lizzie Bennet. Enemies to lovers ensue. Will be multi chap and probably a bit on the longer side, if I am to guess. The only thing I'm debating is setting, as I have no idea whether I want it in the original early-1800s, or adapted to a 1950s-highschool setting. TBD I guess. But I get major vibes, so there's that.
TLOU AU:
Will probably be written as a oneshot but it'll be long so I'll separate into chapters, most likely. Essentially TLOU-inspired, as I kind of want to change the fungus so that it doesn't affect the host quite as quickly. Ace and pat will be an established relationship, but when pat gets bit, ace has to get him to where they think scientists will have a cure before it's too late. He's faced with the terrible decision to leave him behind or not. Idk what kind of ending it'll have just yet (like happy vs bad) but I really liked the TV show, so vibes would be based mainly off that.
Noah Kahan Inspired Series:
It would essentially be a collection of one shots that are based off of various songs from the We'll All Be Here Forever album (which I love sm please give it a listen). Gives small town vibes, and ace is given the opportunity to pursue a famous career in music, but that means leaving Pat and their relationship behind. Idk how many parts it will be, but I'm thinking of basing each oneshot off of a different song from the album, and if you read them all together, the story will kind of develop that way. Still a bit unclear with this one just yet, but I really wanna do it at some point.
Such Sweet Sorrow:
This is me just finished a WIP I've had for a while. The Romeo and Juliet AU i was working on like a year ago lol. If you'd like to read, there's a link on my masterlist to it above!!

sausage being a watcher or listener could probably open up a lot of really interesting story telling avenues but i only care about it when it’s funny tbh. sausage brute forces his way into watcher/listener-hood and no one knows how or why he did that. he only uses his powers to take fun little trips. grian shows up in empires during the crossover and is more confused by sausage, who he has seen in passing in the void, just being out and about than he is about gem’s weird roleplay or joel’s sudden height change or lizzie being a cat or any of that. what do you mean this guy’s just here. and sausage just kinda laughs and doesn’t answer any questions except to make up insane unrelated stories because that’s how he answers every question.

This isn’t about Kate or different generations, but I’ve found it very interesting how much Charles has benefitted popularity wise from becoming king. I think he did a good job in the days after Lizzie died so it might be that people agree with that, but he’s kept kind of the same numbers even now months after it. To be fair to him he has spent decades cultivating relationships with so many people so it might also be that. Camilla got more popular too but not as much and I think hers will probably go back to what it was soon enough.
I don’t know if it’s the same in other countries, but being monarch seems to have given both Liz and Charles some protection from for example media criticism (and Camilla to some extent but I think people have just mellowed a bit on her). QEII did escape a lot of criticism just because she was who she was and it was like they were holding back, I mean in what world was it okay for her to not attend state opening of parliament, but go to a horse show a few days later? And just how she handled Andrew, they still don’t want to say anything bad about her when it comes to that situation (I also have a lot of personal opinions on how H&M should not have been handled so softly as she did but ymmv). The media also seems to have forgotten about the multiple questionable dealings Charles has been involved/mentioned in the past few years, to the point that the police is involved. It’s an interesting development and we’ll see if it continues or if it was more of a grace period.
IMO, it's empty *popularity*, tho, and I wouldn't be surprised if his numbers lower again. Also, I wouldn't consider his numbers, or Camilla's good, tbh. The fact that Anne is so high should also concern them, but oh well.
I can't comment about other countries, but monarchy is fragile and Charles is not in a great position. More scandals can promp more questions and changes, so...
