Just read through @noneorother 's brilliant Good Omens Soundtrack Meta And it brought me back to listening to the soundtrack again.

When I first started listening to the soundtrack, there was one particular track I was looking forward to listening to. And that's the music that plays while Crowley is straightening the Bookshop in e6. The chord progression (to my untrained ear) in the beginning sort of reminded me of Hallelujah, and despite it being a short track it was so magical sounding.

Cut to my surprise when Crowley and Muriel, the track that happens right before the Kiss track on the soundtrack list, sounds nothing like it. I listened to Crowley and Muriel over and over, and still couldn't ear-pick what I had heard in Crowley's Cleanup. I figured that I must have been mistaken.

But I've just gone back and watched the episode again (at the inspiration of noneorother using the scenes as reference.) Crowley and Muriel opens up with the ominous strike of Metatron leaving with Aziraphale (and isn't that choice?) Then it ends right as we cut to Maggie and Nina talking about coming over.

Maggie and Nina decided to come over, and then we cut to Crowley straightening the Bookshop. The chord progression and a chime (again, untrained here) begin, and the track lives as long as it takes Maggie and Nina to come over. It stops when they enter.

Is this a reprise to a song that I missed?? Wouldn't the reprise be listed as its own track??

Then I wondered what else might have been missing between Crowley and Muriel and I Forgive You.

When Aziraphale walks back into the Bookshop, that same track plays again!! Only this time, it has a chorus to it and the progression sounds even lighter. I hadn't noticed it the first time at all. And what I can say is that—well, there's been enough analysis of the Opening Title and actual Discussion of what Went Into the Good Omens Theme. That it is their character themes (because they're a unit!!) BUT there are PIECES of that theme!!! That become those characters!! The lower, more somber sounding tones versus the angelic choruses! And this track (which I'mma just call Straightening Up) has TWO versions. Versions of them separated.

But Straightening Up (Aziraphale's Version) lasts quite a bit longer, I think. It lasts up until Crowley says "I've got something to say." Which, for reference, mean the track includes: Aziraphale entering the Bookshop, Maggie and Nina leaving the Bookshop, Nina passing the Metatron, the Metatron conversing with Muriel, and then landing its final death note on Crowley and Aziraphale in the Bookshop.

With the thought that perhaps this was a reprise, I went hunting.

There's a similar chord progression, I think, in Maggie and Nina (0:32), but otherwise there isn't a lot of similarities. I'd mistake the chords here as just an artist's signature rather than a music theory analysis point.

[Sidebar: But do you know what I did find in Gabriel's Love Story (0:57-ish)? That I remember hearing on my first listen, but am only now committing to memory when trying to purposefully listen for pieces? Not Kind!! Not Kind is in Gabriel's Love Story!]

Anyway, I'm continuing my hunt for what might be another missing soundtrack, but so far I've come up empty. If someone who is more musically inclined than I knows where it is, let me know! Or maybe it's just another missing song from the track. :,)

There's something i think about a lot in the context of how gomens fandom tends to blindly follow everything neil says and view it as 100% canon, even though he himself said multiple times that's not how his words outside of the actual text should be treated.

It's the way modern fandoms, from what i see, are becoming too dependent on creators of their canon. Fandom culture, as a whole, is built on the death of author concept, on the idea that authors lose their power over their texts the moment they finish them. For years fandoms were something that creators of the canon used to look down on, or ignore, or disapprove — but no one cared, because the very idea of the fandom implies that you can do what you want and go against anything author says, or even against the things that are actually part of the canon, just because you don't like them.

But in the last idk how many years fandom culture grew bigger and more noticeable, and gradually stopped being perceived as something freaky or weird, and for canon creators, it simply became... more profitable? more logical? to interact with the fandom rather than ignore it. And ofc there's also the fact that fandom culture is and was largely queer culture, and it's becoming more and more normal to make mass media for queer people (which is a good thing!). So there we get more and more official social media accs being friendly with fans, PR-companies playing with hints on a popular ship, authors talking about their fandom and awnsering its questions, and canons themselves catering to fandom's needs, or whole canons being created with those needs in mind — "look, we have a new series with a queer couple that has a dynamic you people love! Come and write fanfics about them and we won't be mad at you like everyone was before!" And it works, of course it works, because we finally get what we want, we're finally being taken seriously! Things are finally being made for us!

And, obviously, it isn't inherently a bad thing. It's probably an inherently good thing even. But with that attitude becoming more and more common, the line between the "official" stuff and fandom becomes more and more blurred. And then... if the creators of our canon are friendly, surely we've got to be friendly too? If they're saying things we like, it would only be fair if we, too, would try to at least not say things they don't like? They've created that book/movie/series/etc that we all like after all, so the least we can do is be thankful and acknowledge what they have to say.

Which is all well, of course. But the way i see it, the moment fandom bends to meet the canon's authors' wishes, it loses its purpose. The decorum — the fanworks, the ships, the discourse — stays, but the very core if it is missing. It's not about bending the story any way you like it, no matter what author or anyone else thinks, anymore. And it frustrates me a lot.

hmmm depends on why the darling is frightened tbh are they always afraid or is this started after cerelos took them the first time? i do imagine he'd be pretty upset and even offended, though he won't outwardly show his feelings. he'd probably start ordering the servants to disappear whenever the darling is in sight, be invisible, to further isolate them, to force them either to face their loneliness and/or accept cerelos as their emperor and husband. since humans are in nature social, they'd naturally long for some form of company and possibly some skin to skin contact.

in short, since the coecrced sex doesn't seem to do enough, cerelos would've likely infict some psychological damages on his darling to force them to accept him. he wouldn't be…physically abusive, no, but he will emotionally and mentally cripple his darling without relying on cruel words and uses some amount of gaslighting.

regardless, you will only have him and you will love him. he is, after all, your emperor and husband. why wouldn't you embrace him and his power?

Honestly same about the spoiler, here’s the thing…

I NEVER in a million years thought they’d go there I thought it was just gonna be strictly platonic but besties whatever and the fact we even have this has made more happy and invested because Ofc I can ready my fan fictions of this being a conclusion after the show but the fact it’s real?! I’m so happy and I don’t even care that it was spoiled

Yeah exactly. I was kinda really pissed off at Neil reblogging that post that was like "ShOw SoMe ReSpEcT" because it was a stupid post policing and attempting to blame FANS for something AMAZON did. I get Neil was prob angry and upset at the time and he has since tried to clarify, but I still think its a shitty post.

Its a 2 second clip that just so happens to confirm something that the majority of fans have been desperately hoping for for 4 YEARS. Would it have been better to only find out whilst watching the show? Of course! But honestly? I now get to go into the show comfortably happy to watch it without any residual anxiety and fear of disappointment.

Because no matter how many posts people scream on this site about how "we dont need Crowley and Aziraphale to explicitly show us they are in love and together" deep down we know thats bullshit. Deep down we know that for it to actually count towards representation we needed season 2 to give us SOMETHING more than season 1. So that the queer media sites like Pink News could include Gomens in their articles, so that buzzfeed could include it in their canon queer ships listicles. So that heteronormative types could finally say "oh so not just best friends!" So that homophobes could stop screaming "WhY dO yOu PeOpLe HaVe To MaKe EvErYtHiNg GaY" at US and instead scream that at the creators like they did with Sandman whilst we all laugh at them.

People try to downplay the importance of a kiss because they are trying to prevent their own disappointment. So if a kiss doesnt happen they can say "i never needed a kiss. I KNOW it is queer anyway." But we should never downplay the importance of a kiss in queer media. Not when in the real world there are still people trying to make out that queer kissing is gross and explicit and obscene and should be kept hidden from children. Queer kissing needs to be as commonplace as straight kissing and only when THAT happens will I say "nah i didnt need a kiss to know they were queer."

So yes. This spoiler is everything. Not just everything. It's the breath of relief that I've been holding for 4 years. Its the weight of anxiety that has pressed on my shoulders finally being lifted. It's the faith in my favourite author and showrunner finally being rewarded. I was already excited to watch the show, but with the knowledge of the spoiler I am absolutely bouncing off the walls desperate to watch the show, chewing on my own arm desperate to watch the show! I know there are people who REALLY care about not being spoiled, and thats fine. I'll tag everything. I'll tag this post, and hopefully those people have been smart enough to blacklist the tags. Because thats all we can do. I don't think people should stop talking about it and supress their excitement just because Neil Gaiman got angry. Just tag the spoilers and revel in this new knowledge and love the show even more.

Gomens s2 ramble under the cut so. spoilers

This is going to be Aziraphale heavy bc I can't stop thinking about him. He sees the good in God and the good in humanity and the good in Crowley and just the good in so many things that it blinds him to their faults

His first lie stemming from saving Job's kids instead of letting them die bc heaven deemed them a worthy sacrifice to challenge a man's faith was a huge step! Also him finding the joy in good food as well was truly such a humanizing moment for him

During their time with the medical body snatching he is met with pretty heavily the idea that sometimes good people have to do bad things to get by. His rigid lawful nature gets in the way of this poor girl trying to survive so severely that it kills her friend. He's in such a privileged position that he has to learn first hand that people don't do bad things because they want to, but because sometimes they have no other choice to survive (tbf this is the same position the angels are in. the entire show.)

Later after he sleight-of-hands the demon's photo of him & Crowley in kahoots, they talk about shades of gray and both him & Crowley joke "very very dark gray" and "very very light gray" (or, grey bc gomens is British lol)

But the thing is Crowley does see in shades of gray. He always has. When he asked too many questions and got kicked out of heaven and when he saved Job's goats and sheep. When he suggested they split the demon/angel work in S1. He's the first one to realize he's on his own side, he has his own agency and he very clearly acts on it

Whereas Aziraphale...really, really means "very very light gray". When offered TOP DOG position in heaven, where he's told he can make a difference and really show his skills, he sees the position for the good it can do! He can become a full time angel again AND can be together with Crowley as his right hand AND is convinced he will have the power to enact whatever selfish wants he desires (because Aziraphale IS selfish) that he forgets the fact that heaven isn't an ally. That they still want a war, that they are too rigid and have their own vindictive streak and don't understand the weight of their actions on humanity

ofc Crowley sees it a mile away but it's so so much harder for a character who comes from a rigid, rule abiding place to break away from the comfort of said rigidity & rules. He assumes Crowley wants to be an angel again because he wants to be an angel again. He never stopped being one even after they unaligned themselves from heaven/hell, and when, as Nina & Maggie pointed out, you don't talk to each other about important things, it's easy to see that his want to return to heaven bleeds into assuming Crowley wants the same thing.

I don't really know where this is going but I absolutely understand his position at the end of s2 and why he chose it. It fits his character even tho it's absolutely a step in the wrong direction, and I can't wait for s3 for him to realize why and finally cross that line from "very very light gray" into actually realizing his side is with humanity and Crowley instead of heaven

okay full honesty time. I think people give too much of a shit about n*il g*iman. like in general but especially the gomens fandom ofc. and yes it's mostly ppl who stan him or respect him or whatever but like. even the people who don't, who don't like him or stan him or respect him even a little bit, they like. talk about him. often. very often. and yeah we all* know he lied and all but. you post about it a lot for someone who claims not to care.

regardless we all agree the ppl who stan him are worse and the people who won't stop sending him asks and interacting are like so fucking annoying. the only person mor annoying than them is g*iman himself with his insistence on continuing to interact with said people. but I digress

*and by "we all" I mean the people who know ofc. pre-show fandom + ppl who got into the book/radio fandom afterwards (like me hi) but like. actually went back through old blogs and posts and stuff. I am perfectly aware a large portion of the tv fandom these days probably has no idea he is lying about azicrow at all lmao

minor jungle cruise spoilers if anyone cares

i absolutely adore how mcgregor was portrayed. was it kinda stereotypical? yea but it wasn’t like. over the top i’m looking at you lefou. and how subtly and casually he said the reason he declined every woman’s interest was simply because his interests “happily lay elsewhere”. that was cute as shit.

could it have been more explicit with him saying he’s gay? absolutely. should he have kissed a man? oh 100% like c’mon disney stop being cowards and give us a big movie gay kiss

i also just loved mcgregor in general and the reason i’m talking about it here is bc he’s played by jack whitehall and as we all know he plays my emotional support nerd in gomens so ofc i’m gonna love him

idk i thought it was gorgeous how he came out and how he was portrayed and all. obviously for proper rep we need more than that but i feel like this is a really good step for disney.

you sighed before bending down to pick them up and babie inuoka’s eyes watered, thinking you were mad at him

he whispered but you looked up at him from your position

his watery eyes made you frantically stand up and wipe his tears with the pads of your thumbs

‘inu-kun, why are you crying? you said you were strong right? dont cry over silly things, okay?’

he nodded and you were still confused as to why he was so emotional but you patted his fluffy hair

‘now cmon, lets go take these to the shop’

unbeknownst to you, the team was actually seething from behind the wall

naturally, as a,,, manager,, you became their,,, energy??

like the slightest affections from you made their health bar increase tenfold and they didnt necessarily have any intentions towards you

you were like,,, their own,,,, happy drug?? like a human seratonin??

just the fact that they had someone like you to fall back on and give them love when they lost or something

it was comforting

usually it was just the team’s responsibility to throw away their own sadness and comfort each other

but with you,,,

I’ll be honest I don’t know anything about Amanda Palmer (to the point where I had no clue who you were even talking about until you kept going), nor do I particularly care to. I also don’t know much about Gaiman’s personal life nor do I care to. I certainly don’t care what she or Gaiman get up to in their personal lives together, and I’m in no way interested in judging them wrt how they feel about each other or whether or not they deserve each other. I cannot imagine anything more entitled and nosy than outsiders involving themselves in the love lives (or even just the personal lives) of people they don’t even know to the point where they think their opinion of such matters more than a cow’s stale patty.

The sum total of what I know about Gaiman is this: Gaiman has written some books, and I like the books he’s written that I’ve read. I like the way he puts words together to tell stories. I like the way he tangles up characters. When I see him answer asks on tumblr, which I only occasionally see and mostly pertain to Good Omens and are usually laid in my lap by friends because I don’t follow him, I like how much chaotic energy he seems to have. I like the few personal stories he’s shared that have crossed my awareness. I feel sad for him having lost someone who was clearly a very good friend, and I respect his desire to keep his word to that friend and bring us a fairly true-to-the-story screen play of the book they wrote together. I have been told he’s tried to be a good ally in the past, and from what little I have seen, he seems to be trying to be a good ally now, too. I know he brought me my favorite piece of media of all time. That’s it.

I also know human beings are never perfect, not a single one. I know that there are people out there that want to point fingers and cancel people when they aren’t perfect. But I know that there’s a huge difference (and one that I can and do judge for myself) between “This person is more bad than good and should be canceled” and “This person is more good than bad and should be encouraged to keep trying.” And everything I’ve ever seen - which again, is limited by my deep and abiding sense of apathy toward the personal lives of famous strangers, I cannot stress that enough - says that Gaiman falls into the latter. As far as I know, he’s never done anything that, for me, would tip him into the former. He’s not even close. Even if I did care to get snoopy, I only have so many fucks to give, and I do not have enough to expend worrying about someone so far away from that line, when there are people like Trump on this rock.

You can, and should, think for yourself about whether or not to like a person you don’t even know. If someone points a finger you don’t think they should be pointing, you can look into the matter yourself. You can do research and make up your own mind. And you should. If what you’ve seen says “he seems like an alright dude” then there you go. Don’t worry about anyone else’s opinions.

I was on your blog for gomens and I saw your quaker post. I've never even seen another quaker on here besides the one-off memes, this is really cool! I guess the community really is this small though lol. anyway love your writing

i wouldnt actually call myself a quaker as i dont currently have a means of commuting to the only meeting like. literally within 100 miles of where i live but i do plan to when im able and my religious beliefs align with those of quakers (in the broad sense of belief in the light within ofc). i wont know for certain if becoming a member is for me until i’ve attended for a bit so i simply follow (relatively, given the limited presence) a lot of quakers here and elsewhere and read and when i do want or need to talk about my religious beliefs, i usually begin with first that i’m broadly speaking an unaffiliated christian and then second “i identify a lot with quakers--” and then explain what i mean by that

all of that to say, i wish you could have found a fellow quaker, but you have only discovered an aspiring/curious one! and thank you, you are very kind :)

How I came up with all the titles? Oh dear, it's been too long. (I still want to continue writing this series btw!!! But I've abandoned it so long I have kinda no idea what is happening and how I should follow it up... Guess I'll need to read it again and re-watch the movie before I write more... No idea when I'll manage that, SO SORRY! But it's not abandoned I swear) in general, I pick titles by whatever the fuck is the first thing to come to my mind as a work title and then when it just kinda fits after finishing the fic I keep it -_(-_-)_- no fucks given. Of HKJ in particular I remember thinking about maybe switching the title 'endgame' to the last fic, but I never got around to doing it...

Stories inspired by personal experience: yes, quite a few by now actually! Especially atm as I'm on vacation and also writing a lot of Good Omens shortfics I tend to just have the characters do whatever I'm up to... Usually written in the author's notes that it's inspired by that I think, examples are Runalongs, Disco Lights, Sparkles and Away from Home, and in my drafts I have a few more, the next one I'll post is probably gonna be called 'Lightning and Thunder'. Usually though, only a vague feeling or place/setting is the inspiration and from there I write what I think the characters would do with it.

Character I identify with the most: well I share a few traits with both Crowley and Aziraphale from GOmens, but my real spirit animal is Disaster Bi Clint Barton, Hawkeye :)

Original Character I identify with most: actually, I tend to add characters when I no longer identify with my till then fav oc- currently, that'd be one I haven't actually written for, it's the multiverse-triplets (not to be confused with the time-triplets) Jojo, Juna and Ann. Other ocs I identify(ed) with are Lucandra, Akasha Shields, Jamie Barnes, Felicitas and ofc Vicky. (so... everyone really?)

A pairing I might like but haven't written for yet: lots of femslash! Idk why I rarely write it! Maybe it feels too close to home and I'm afraid of getting it wrong? What do I know. Also, Harry Potter ships! And if we're at femslash: I rly like the Ginny/Luna dynamic! Another HP ship I love (solely due to other ffs which had backstories that made it plausible lol) and have never written for is Narcissa Black|Malfoy and Kingsley Shacklebolt. Also, have I ever written wolfstar? When it comes to my OCs, my fab ship is Victoria x Cleo Yamasaki, but I rarely write about them bc those damn characters won't tell me their dynamic lol xD I mean, I don't even know whether they're like idk grey-ace or completely ace or just not into PDA or on the other hand Vicky would totally be into too much PDA just to annoy people no matter whether she's into sex Like That or not and just idkkkk and that's why I don't write about them :[
