SYSTEM ROLES I'VE CLAIMED PART 1 NOTE: These are TRAUMAGENIC EXCLUSIVE terms. We are anti-endo!

ROOT: A root alter is an alter who has connection/communication with most, if not, all of the system. CLOWN: A clown alter is an alter who exists to cheer people up within or outside of the system, often times by joking around/being funny. ANALYST: An analyst alter is an alter who acts like a therapist for members of the system. This tends to happen with a lack of good therapy or therapy at all, and can also occur when an alter needs support quickly. REGRESSOR: A regressor alter is a (typically) little alter who's role to is to front for another alter to mimic age/pet/etc. regression. Regressors usually help the system solely by being young/nonhuman/etc. BOT: A bot alter is an alter that has a database of sorts of the system. It can be general system information, such as information about headspace locations, alters roles, relations, and activity, and other stuff. Usually unrelated to memories or trauma, but can also include that. PROXY: Unlike a proxy for a proxy bot, a proxy alter is an alter who exists to speak on behalf of other alters. Typically these alters front to ease the stress of other alters WARMONGER: A warmonger is an alter who purposefully causes harm, internally and/or externally, knowing it's unhelpful. Warmongers usually don't accept help and can even be considered toxic and/or dangerous. (DISCLAIMER: This role was created with the intent to give a label to a specific type of persecutor. This role is not meant to generalize or harm anyone.) CAMOUFLAGE: A camouflage alter is an alter that masks as other alters in the system, for good or for bad intent. These alters can also convince other system members that they are still fronting, on purpose or otherwise. MEDIATOR: A mediator alter is an alter who mediates a stressful situation unbiasedly and communicates things between the system/alter and the person/people the system is having issues with. KNIGHT: A knight alter is a type of protector who specifically protects friends and family outside of the system.

i sometimes see people say things like, “nobody has a role in my system. we dont fit into any because we’re more like, “guy who is sad” and “girl who is productive”.” or even, “i can’t be [role] because sometimes im weak/sad/self destructive/etc etc”

firstly i want to say, this is okay!! don’t use roles if you don’t want to! make up your own, even!

but i also want to remind everyone that fully formed alters (as in, not fragments) are full, multidimensional people, and people aren’t always consistent. we’re also all traumatized, and that shows sometimes no matter who is fronting. protectors can be scared. trauma holders can be happy. persecutors can be kind to their system. the definition of the role doesn’t have to be the definition of you as an alter. protectors are just alters who feel protective over, and sometimes physically protect their system. that doesn’t mean they can’t be scared sometimes, that doesn’t mean they automatically can handle a traumatic situation well, that doesn’t mean they never feel depressed. same goes for any other role.

also, there absolutely are roles for things that are more complicated too, if you want to use them. some people like being “guy who is sad” while others like being “trauma holder” or “depression holder”, even if it might mean the same thing to them. roles don’t have rules, they’re created by us, and what is making you [role] can be anything, depending on how you interpret it. and you can still have one even if you don’t feel like you are any of the “common” roles. even if what you do in the system is hyperspecific and uncommon, you can still find/make a role for it. but you don’t have to. it’s also just a descriptor.

this is getting long and im not entirely sure this gets my point across, but i have been seeing more and more stuff like this, and i think people shouldn’t be scared away by roles just because they’re so broad and there can be so many. just like nobody should have to identify with roles, nobody should be intimidated or scared away if it might be beneficial or fun for their system.

also if you are looking for roles, there’s pluralpedia (keep in mind this is an endo friendly website, whether that keeps you away or pulls you in to the website isn’t what this is about i just know it’s commonly mentioned). there are also lots of instagram accounts and tumblr blogs who coin (create) roles! you’re bound to find some if you look under the tags or even scroll through a system blog long enough. if anyone coins roles on their blog or knows any other role lists/carrds/docs/etc plss reblog with them!

A long time ago, as a toddler, I screamed in my head for someone, anyone to help me. To make it stop hurting. To let me be free.

A man with wings like lambskin, large clawed hands, deep gray skin, and eyes like nothing I had ever seen in my couple of years stood in front of me inside of my head - what I didn't yet know was the headspace - took my small frame into his arms and said "you'll need to toughen up". That scared me more than anything.

"I don't want to be tough. I want to be small and fragile and naïve. I'm supposed to be that right now, I think. I think I would like to be soft forever."

"Okay," he said, amazing me by being a man respecting my no "then I will be tough for you."

Without hesitation, he took the form of someone my age and he lives my life for me, allowing me safety inside of the head with the alters I know are safe to be around. No more outside interaction I don't explicity choose - and he tells me if it's safe or not when I do decide to.

He has taken the risk out of people. He has allowed me the privilege of love and interaction without giving up security or the childish belief that the world can be good.

I'll never, ever say thank you enough times even if I used the breath of the entire world for the next million years.

My host saved my life, my sanity, and maybe even saved the system some trauma by being better at handling the situation, sure.

But most importantly, he saved my innocence. And he didn't even know me yet.

So dear host, when I say I love you and you are the best "brother" I could ever ask for, please don't look at me with those confused eyes. Don't shrug away and hide your demonic wings from me because they are the same ones that you wrapped around me when I was broken and believed I was beyond repair.

Your claws have never ever scratched my skin because unlike every other man, you have always been careful not to hurt me, yet you make it seem effortless. You make me wonder how careless everyone else must have been if you so easily avoid causing any harm at all.

Please don't hurt yourself in the process of making yourself appear small and human for me. Human is exactly what I was afraid of. What you think will make me run and hide are the only reasons I didn't back then.

VOID: A void alter is an alter that fronts when the host, or any other alter who has been fronting for a while/has been involved in a lot of stress while fronting. Void alters take the place of the stressed alter and are usually very quiet, or even nonverbal. They tend to partake in activities that calm down the body or the collective. (coined by myself and a friend) BRIDGE: A bridge alter is an alter than can switch when another alter is frontstuck to help get another alter to front, or if one alter has difficulty communicating with other system members. (coined by myself and a friend) GOFER: An alter with the role of gofer is an alter who has the job of assisting other alters with their jobs. DESTROYER: A destroyer alter is an alter that deletes any messages, or hides or destroys any evidence of something that could possibly put the system in danger. For example, if another alter sent messages that could potentially cause issues with the receiver of said messages, the destroyer alter may front to delete said messages, or maybe there is something in their room they will get punished for, the destroyer may front to hide or destroy whatever could endanger the system. RECLUSE: A recluse alter is an alter who is tasked with keeping the system away from socialization for one reason or another, usually to protect the system. AUTHORITY: An authority alter is an alter that typically makes decisions for the system when there is uncertainty. This can be when there is indecisiveness or differing opinions or big opinions to be made. It all depends. DRUID: A druid alter is an alter who is usually in charge of making sure the body gets outside. Druids usually make the system feel more happy, at ease, or just generally positive emotions when being outdoors and/or connecting with nature. The druid alter may also have a strong interest in nature and/or may know more about it, but that's not always the case.
