#sword + powers = badassery

I’d like to request one of the Vox group with a member who is the most “ordinary” in that they don’t have any magic or special powers as they are human, but they are almost supernaturally good at fighting. They can wield any weapon put into their hand with expert technique and have superb tactical knowledge that puts even longer lived races on the back foot. How would such an ordinary yet extraordinary person be with this group of weirdo’s?
This is Belmont-Black Canary levels of badassery!
A/n - ok, all bird imagery aside I know who I’m picking
Vax’ildan
Tumblr media
Ok, hear 👂 me out
Aside from the ones with enchanted/cursed weapons, god-affiliations, and Vex’s quote “cause we both now you used to lie about fights”, I feel like Vax would be impressed with battle tactics
Sure a dagger can slow someone down, especially if they’re bigger, but you’re self with a blade, rope, knife is a sure guarantee to take them down
You’re like the walking encyclopedia of battle tactics, and it helps the party against rival mercenaries and when it counts against the Chroma Conclave
In a oh so smooth attempt to flirt with you, Vax feigns curiosity about your fighting styles, wanting you to teach him
Of course you always win practice spars, and he blames his blush on the heat
Hook-blade, long bow, dagger, short swords, long sword, grappling, hidden blade, broad sword, you sometimes rattle off your knowledge and Vax is just sitting there like “uh, uh 😃”
even the rest of the party sees it
PLUS once he gets the Vestige armor, Vax does come to you because he has no idea what’s going and it scares him, and you’ve never seen such fear in him
Even when you spend hours telling him more about what said armor entails, the pit in his stomach doesn’t entirely go away, but at least coming from you, it feels more welcoming to accept

Geeta Team Tweaks
Continuing off my Nemona post: I am Geeta's strongest soldier but her team sucks. Not in the sense that it doesn't have a theme or is ill-fitting, but it just doesn't exude the level of badassery that she deserves. I thought it would be fun to explore different ways of building her team that highlight interesting and underutilized Paldean pokemon and explore a new angle theme wise. Under the cut bc these get long
So Geeta's whole thing is the beauty and diversity of Paldea, shown by her pokemon that represent each of the provinces. However, I think it would be a little more fun if instead, Geeta's team represents the very peak of Paldea-- made entirely of hard to find, powerful, and elusive pokemon that the player only would have seen if they explored every nook and cranny. Not only does it make Geeta look badass, but it serves a meta purpose: those who truly love paldea and spend longer exploring the region can more easily defeat her because they know what to expect, while those who blast through the story will be met with unfamiliar pokemon who can wipe them out
Glimmora: I think she should lead with Glimmora, but that the pokemon should be used in all her promotional material and be the pokemon most closely associated with her. In the same way that Pawmot isn't Nemona's ace in the game but is the Pokemon she's associated with most, I think it should be the same for Geeta. Also, I think the way you find Glimmora should be tweaked so that Geeta having one is more special. As it stands, Glimmora connecting Geeta to area zero is something the player can only find out after the battle with her, which dampens the intrigue. Plus, it can be found easily in some caves, which doesn't make it an unknown or a threat. Instead, I propose that Glimmet / Glimmora only be found in a single spot in Paldea-- a hidden alcove in one of the caves where crystals from area zero are starting to grow. By having a pokemon that spawns only in a rare and out of the way location, players who explore are rewarded because they know how to handle it. Either way, Geeta owning this rare pokemon that most have probably never seen immediately makes her seem badass and mysterious
Espathra -> Amarouge / Celruedge: The fact that these things aren't used in any main story battles and that Celruedge doesn't appear on a team at all is a genuine crime, so I'm fixing it. Also, as cool as Espathra is, it's associated more closely with Tulip, so I don't think it's good for Geeta to have a repeat member like that. The sword boys, on the other hand, are uncommon, powerful, and badass, and serve to highlight Geeta's strength and mastery over the pokemon of the region to the point where she can evolve pokemon like Charcadet that very rarely see evolution. She would have the one that corresponds to your version (Armarogue in Scarlet, Celruedge in Violet)
Gogoat -> Paldean Tauros (Aqua or Blaze): You know how I mentioned in my Nemona team post that she would have a Paldean Tauros in her team, which is implied to be her previous ace? Yeah that's because of Geeta. Nemona looks up to Geeta a lot, and I figured Nemona's Paldean Tauros is actually inspired by Geeta's Paldean Tauros. However, while Nemona's Tauros is the breed that corresponds to the version you're playing, Geeta has the one that corresponds to the Opposite Version (Aqua Breed in Scarlet, Blaze Breed in Violet), ensuring that you're facing a new and surprising threat during your champion fight
Avalugg -> Gholdengo: Imma be honest I do not think Gholdengo fits her vibes at all, but it's not used by anyone in the game and that's pitiful. It's powerful and cool, which also fits for a champ. Also, it fits with the same theme of exploration-- without scaling the watchtowers and searching Paldea for coins, you won't be able to evolve a Gholdengo and have little idea of what you're facing
Veluza -> Rabsca: Uhhhhh honestly I just wanted a cool looking pokemon that wasn't a repeat from another NPC's team. This felt like a good pick AND uses the let's go feature, so it fits with the exploration theme too
Kingambit: This is a good pick, it should have been last, you've heard this a million times. The big thing about Kingambit, however, is that I think it should take advantage of unusual tera types. Since Geeta doesn't have a type specialization, you go into the battle having NO idea what her ace might be. and uh. I don't either. Fairy, maybe? idk I don't play comp I'm here for themes and motifs
Anyway, that's all for Geeta! This is a pretty big overhaul, and I'm curious to see if anyone else had ideas for alternate versions of her team

ok i NEED to talk about laurence's utter badassery when he gets back from the allied forces' headquarters to find poole attempting mutiny in league of dragons
like, he is wearing his absolute best, most finely laundered clothes. he's coming back from singlehandedly negotiating a bunch of war leaders out of poisoning all of europe's feral dragons, after deciding that loyalty to his country be damned, he will defect to napolean if they do so. he is nearly untouchable in the armor he has built himself over years of developing his sense of justice with temeraire and his commitment to doing what he knows is right. he has been through hell and back and he is done taking anyone's shit.
but nobody knows this! nobody knows what's happening at all! and then he finds all his captains and crew with their swords drawn, about to start straight up brawling. and he barely even reacts! poole straight up holds a sword to his throat and his only reaction is to straight up ignore that it's happening and continue to go about his business, rallying his other captains and explaining the new plan re: fighting napolean. and by doing so he completely negates the power and the legitimacy of poole's mutiny. fucking. THE most badass, irreverent, i-literally-couldn't-care-less move he could've pulled.

I've seen some discourse about Fontaine Act V, specifically some posts discussing misogynistic characterisations and other such things, so I wanted to throw my hat in the ring and air out my thoughts.
Firstly: most of the game up until 4.0 had sexism rooted deeply within the writing. You can look to the actual character designs to see the mistreatment of the female characters most plainly, but it's a gacha game selling waifus - whatever, that's not pertinent. More pressing is the actual writing of the female characters; despite there being several more women than men, the male characters on a whole seem to get more screen time, story presence and deliver more narrative weight than their female counterparts.
Who are the characters who seem like they'll be relevant throughout the game? Which characters are awarded a greater diversity of personalities?
There have always been well-written female characters in the game, but so many are not given ample screen time to explore that. Even more get given interesting backstories with no personality to follow through on the obscure lore.
Even in Inazuma where the quest is dominated by feminine presence, it's Kazuha who has the most voice lines throughout the game out of the Inazuma cast, Ayato (who didn't even appear!) who gets retroactively awarded the title of mastermind. The writing in Inazuma does just suck in general, but still nobody thinks of Yae in the same way they consider Albedo, Scaramouche, Neuvillette. You can make ten million arguments for why Ayaka's demure disposition is relevant to her strength as a character in non-combative ways, but the game's narrative does not capitalise on that, leaving her to feel very samey to characters we've had before.
The point being: the argument for Fontaine being a misogynistic hell hole does have a backbone in how Hoyo has previously dealt with their characters. However, in my opinion, this is yet another case of "trying and falling short is a worst crime than making no attempt at all".
Fontaine has a huge diversity of women characters who all feel distinct. You could read an unmarked line of dialogue by Lynette, Navia, Charlotte, Arlecchino, Clorinde, Sigewinne, Skirk, Furina or Foçalors and you could pretty accurately distinguish who has said it. Now, a lot of these characters are written to be victims - Lynette being child trafficked, Navia having her whole family die around her, Arlecchino an abused orphan, Foçalors doomed to die and Furina is cursed. But in no way does this diminish their individual strengths or leave them without agency.
There's a misconception that a "strong female character" has to be, basically, an 80s male action hero but with boobs this time. If she is feminine then it better be in service of her badassery. In reality, the mark of a well-written female character is her agency in the story to change it - agency here is important, because throughout fiction female characters have often shaped entire stories... By being doormats that you could replace with a sword the hero really wants.
So in terms of Fontaine, how do these characters stack up? Not just in terms of their diversity of personality and depth of story, but also their power and relevance in the Archon quest itself?
Furina is presented as being trapped in suffering, but the reality of the situation is that she has the option to give up at any time. You cannot replace Furina with a cool treasure that the Traveller really wants; she makes active decisions in service of the plot constantly, in spite of her torture and fear and weakness. That weakness is never portrayed as some huge flaw that we the player must fix, it's in fact evidence of how strong Furina has been for centuries.
Navia too - though (by virtue of what the story is about) she has less to do, Navia thrusts herself into the quest in our defence, rallies our team and, yeah, needs saving along the way! Just like Freminet in the primordial seawater in Act IV or Lyney on trial in Act I.
Arlecchino maintains many feminine traits while also twisting them on their head. She is the "Father" of the House of the Hearth - obviously gendered - but she is most defined by her maternal love (feminine). She is never placed into a position of weakness in the Archon quest, always in control and saving others.
I think looking at Neuvillette's ascension to the position of leadership in Fontaine and labelling the whole ordeal "misogynistic" is insanely reductive. If every nation were ruled by a man despite 5/7 "archons" being women, sure. But Mondstadt is presently led by Jean, Liyue by Ningguang, Inazuma by Raiden (& Yae?) and Sumeru by Nahida. If the problem people have is instead that in this process Furina becomes more meek and emotional, then I point again to the wide variety of personalities the female characters in Fontaine display. If every woman is meek and emotional that's a problem, but those are literally only adjectives you would use for Furina (who is severely traumatised). Navia would be resolute and kind-hearted, Clorinde reserved and courageous, Charlotte curious and assertive - the list goes on.
And to pretend like Neuvillette doesn't bow down in many instances to the whims of other characters is a frustrating take. Yes he gets a cool cutscene of fixing all the problems of the prophecy, but that's only surface level; he did that after Foçalors explained that it was all her plan and her sacrifice. He takes Skirk's advice to give Arlecchino the gnosis. Even back in Act II, Neuvillette admits his own weakness of understanding to Navia - in that moment she is grieving and upset, but the narrative never treats her as unreasonable for her feelings. In fact, Neuvillette (who is supposed to seem wise and level-headed) admits his own wrongs and apologises to her!
Anyway. Please try to look at Fontaine with a bit more nuance.

Hey, nice to meet you! I saw that your request is open & you write for One Piece 😌❤️ May i request fluffy headcanons for Monster Trio with Fem!Reader? 😳 What if the reader is the devil queen. I hope my request is safe, do tell me if you feel uncomfortable 😔 Thank you!
a/n: nice to meet you too!! and ofc! oo! devil queen huh? interesting!! oh, and it didn’t make me uncomfortable at all!<3 please do excuse me if i’m a little shitty though💀 but i had so much fun writing this! and i’m sorry for it being a little late:( my sister wouldn’t quit bugging me about going to the mall, but i tried my best to write inbetween shopping! i hope you enjoy this!

FLUFFY HC’S WITH THE MONSTER TRIO
fem!devil queen!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(THIS GIF IS NOT MINE)
MONKEY D. LUFFY
i feel like luffy would most DEFINITELY a touch your horns, wings, and tail, in a playful manner way of course, *smirks* that is if you have them though. otherwise he would probably bug you about using your powers 25/8!
yk whenever he catches fish? yeah, he would ask you to fry them with your fire so he wouldn’t get beaten by sanji (AGAIN.).
oh boy and once he sees you in battle, you bet he has STAR EYES! you look so cool!? he’s so happy to have you as his girlfriend AND a crew mate! whenever you get out of the fight and back onto the sunny, he’s gonna be yelling about how cool your powers were while attached to your back with his arms wrapped around you.
he definitely brags about you to zoro, and to basically everyone (cue sanji sulking in the corner). he can’t help how cool he thinks your abilities are! if i’m honest he probably thinks it’s cooler than sanjis raidsuit😭
and during cuddles in winter he wraps himself around you tenfold with a dorky smile on his face at your natural body heat.
in conclusion: luffy thinks you’re an absolute BADASS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(THIS GIF IS NOT MINE)
Roronoa Zoro
zoro definitely plays with your wings/horns/tail just to mess with you, (if you have any ofc) he smirks and mentally takes a picture of your reaction when he sees your expressions.
whenever it’s winter, and he’s taking a nap on the sunny, he may just wake up for a few minutes, go and get you from whatever you’re doing and plop you right down beside him! he might have the physique of a god but he still gets cold sometimes…
since he has a horrible sense of directions at times, yes, you will have to wrap your tail (if you have you yk the drill) around him in order to keep him on the actual path and not off wandering. (totally not requested by the whole crew….)
whenever he sees you in battle, he most definitely looks like he is in the gif. (bonus points if you’re using a sword!) he quite literally goes over to you, and says, "when did you learn that total badassery babe?!” (he may be a little bit sour if you stole his spotlight)
he’d most definitely call himself your devil king though
in conclusion: zoro loves every bit of this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(THIS GIF IS NOT MINE)
Vinsmoke Sanji
oh boy, i’m sure you know how sanji is with nami and robin? yeah, he’s like that with you, but tenfold. each time you fight he’d most definitely be like, "Y/NNNNNNN! MY LOVEE~ YOUR FIGHTING STYLE IS ABSOLUTELY DEVIL-ISH!~" and he would be proud of his little pun. (don’t ruin it for him please</3)
he would help you with trimming up some of the spikes on your wings if they got outrageous or uncomfortable, same with your horns! yet ofc while praising you, saying how beautiful you are either way
if you ever believed that he should get with somebody else because of your powers, or how dangerous you are, or any other reason, he might just get on his knees and start saying how you’re a goddess besides how you’re a devil queen, saying how he wouldn’t want anybody else
in conclusion: sanji is madly inlove as always
none of these characters are mine! they all belong to Eiichiro Oda!

"I got your back"
Scaramouche, Albedo, Childe and Kazuha x Gn! Reader (Fighting by their side)
Warnings: Cursing, mentions of blood and death. (none of you die 😭) Very suggestive remark at the end of Scaras part.
Theme: Badassery 😉
Sorry for any mistakes 🤩🤩✊✊
Scaramouche
Scaramouche had found himself in quite the situation traveling in inazuma. You were walking with him, but fell behind to look at some flowers you found. Little to his knowledge, there were hundreds of samurai ready to ambush him. His mission was to stay on the downlow in inazuma. Nothing big or flashy to alert locals of his presence, or the fatui presence in general. Scaramouche and your task was to collect some information and head back to the palace. He turned a corner and took a sharp inhale when an electric slash just missed his arm. "Shit! How could I be so careless!" He mumbled. Loud enough for you to hear. You came running to find him fighting the samurai. "You look adorable when struggling." You teased, drawing your sword behind him. "Shut the fuck up. You know I can't do anything big." Scaramouche wasn't actually struggling, he could easily eliminate every samurai there, however he had to keep it on the down low. With the city nearby, he couldn't do anything to powerful. You laughed once more, the pyro vision on your side burning red. You faced opposite directions, fighting the samurai on each of your sides. "I got your back." You said, then pushing off of him to strike multiple samurai with pyro. The pyro attack allowed Scaramouche to infuse it with electro, killing multiple samurai. Half of the samurai were dead now. "Sometimes I can't tell if you love me for me, or me for my pyro vision." "Speaking of love, if you keep talking I'm going to love your new casket!" He hissed and struck another electro filled attack, allowing you to handle the rest. You kept the explosions small but powerful, infusing the remaining samurai with pyro, and getting Scaramouche to deal with the rest. You laughed once he finished. "Looks like my training didn't go to waste after all. Hm Y/n?" You walked over to him and shrugged. "I suppose not. Let's get a move on Scara!" "For fucks sake stop calling me that!" Y'all prolly fucked after this ngl
Childe
Your loving ginger giraffe who happens to be a fucking dumbass walked straight into a ruin guard landfill. The area swarmed with deactivated ruin guards which could trigger at any second. He had you right by his side, weapon drawn and ready to fight. " We have to get to that other side. If anything happens I can always activate foul legacy. " You guys continued walking through the field of ruin guards. "I told you Tartaglia, I'm not allowing you to do that. You did it a few days ago. You could put a serious injury on your body dumbass." He rolled his eyes playfully. "I'm serious, don't do it. You could be putting your career at stake." You both continued to walk, however to your luck, a bird flew by a ruin guards head and activated it. After one activates, all activates. "Damn it!" You cursed. Your boyfriend gave you that cocky smirk he always did before he beat the absolute shit out of something. But would he be able to pull this off? Who are you kidding? Of course he can! Right? "Watch your back, I'm here when you need me." He stated, and then ran torwards 3 ruin guards. Striking them with his bow. That left you to fight your own 4 ruin guards. No big deal. You were trained by Childe, and have been working for the fatui for years. You struck 2 right in the center of the eye, knocking them down. You held an electro vision, and to your luck your boyfriend had applied them with hydro for you. "How sweet." You struck them with electro, charging them and eventually killing them. You both met back up in the middle, back pressed up against each other. "How you doing? Need the emergency room yet?" He teased. "Be quiet or I'll end you before the ruin guard gets to look at you." "Feisty are we?" He laughed and attacked a few more ruin guards. This process went on a few more times, until all ruin guards were killed. "That was fun!" You said happily. "Deffinetly a fun little challenge." He placed a kiss on your head and continued to walk. "Come on you robot killer, we have things to do." "Robot killer, what the hell? You did the exact same thing!"
Albedo
Albedo was exhausted from his day at work, you had been in his office for a bit watching him. Today in particular involved a lot of fighting for resources. Albedo was a great fighter, and so were you, as you started training at a young age. However Albedo preferred doing more technical work then fighting slimes to get there materials. You sat in a tree outside of the lab, waiting for Albedo to finish up. There was nothing you could do at this time to help him. You thought about him fighting a lot. He killed slimes with such ease and grace, he was incredibly talented. You got down from the tree, unknowingly awakening a frost lawachurl. 2 of them to be exact. "Y/n Get down!" You ducked and Albedo sent massive geo shards flying, right above your head. He had just finished up work and came out of his lab just in time. The shards hit one of the Lawachurls. You pulled out your blade and Struck both of them with your pyro, this would be making things easier for both Albedo and you. You met up in the middle, and kept switching between opponents. Affecting each other's with different elements. Having to be extremely careful due to the vulnerable lab behind you, and the massive cliff in front of you. "Bedo watch out!" You called out to him, in just enough time for him to roll to the ground, dodging a rock the size of Albedo himself. "Get behind me for a moment!" Albedo ordered. You obeyed, however made sure each lawachurl was infused with pyro before moving out of the way. Albedo sent more shards of geo to the lawachurl, one falling off the cliff, the other on its way to death. You knocked Albedo out of the way, and sliced the lawachurl clean, ending it's life. Ice shards were sent flying, knocking you and Albedo in opposite directions. You rushed over to him, thankful to find him in one piece. He had something in his hand, it was long and thin. "My project, coincidentally called for frost lawachurl skin, and fragments of the horn. He chuckled as you helped him up. "That's something I haven't done in a while. Also something I plan to not do again."
Kazuha
Kazuha and you planned a walk along the water. It was supposed to be along the lines of a date, since you two never really go the chance to go out. The ship had landed in the stone forest for a few days to get some supplies, so you and Kazuha decided to take a stroll. Holding hands, stopping to look at fish, even watching clouds as he told you about his most recent haiku's. The sun was setting, and you were resting on Kazuhas lap. "You look stunning under the sunset." He whispered, moving a piece of hair out of your face. You could say the same thing about him. However, you saw a strange purple glowing thing flying around his head as he spoke. "Fuck." You shot up to see cicin mages all around. Kazuha realized shortly after you. "Oh how pitiful. I was trying to enjoy the sunset. He stated. The anger in his voice showing. The cicin mages laughed and started teleporting. You and Kazuhas elements worked well together, as you both had fought together in the past. You knew each others fighting styles well, as you dualed against each other, fought with each other, and even watched each other fight frequently. You wielded a cryo vision, to your luck you all were just a few feet away from the water. Kazuha was alarmingly good at eliminating multiple enemies at once. If he is able to gather them, you would be able to kill them. You both almost read each other's minds. Kazuha struck first attacking 3 of the 6 mages, leaving you with the other 3. You both had to get them close enough to water. You quickly got behind them and started pushing them torwards the water, attacking them with your sword, kazuha quickly came over and finished up your work. You could hear him call; " Don't worry, I have you covered." As you froze 4 mages, then the other 2 were to your mercy. After that, Kazuha and you manipulated both of your elements to inflict lots of damage onto the mages. The mages were killed quickly, after that, you and Kazuha killed off the bats the spawned, which were oh so annoying. After eliminating all of the opponents you flopped back down onto Kazuhas shoulder. "How annoying!" He laughed at your complaining. "It's getting dark, we should head back before we are attacked by cryogunners. Then you are really screwed." He teased as he walked back with you to the ship.

Shits Jiggy has done in order of iconicness & badassery (or the top 13, at least. 'Cause, everything he does is iconic & badass. Yes, that includes saying "Xue Yang did it" with a fucking bloodied Wen sword in his hands that he had just pulled out of the intestines of the fallen captain right in front of NMJ. Respect!):
His death! This fucking part!
Jin GuangYao coughed up quite some blood, his voice hoarse, "Lan XiChen!"
He forcefully broke through the spell of silence.
At the moment, Jin GuangYao was injured from top to bottom. His left hand was burned by the poisonous smoke, his right hand was severed, and his stomach was missing a chunk of flesh. Covered in blood, he couldn't even manage to sit upright, yet right now he stood on his own without any help, like one last streak of light from a setting sun. He called again in a voice filled with hatred, "Lan XiChen!"
And then! He pulled the sword out himself! And then! He spilled his own blood over NMJ's coffin to envoke him! And his last words were "fuck you Nie MingJue! Do you think I'm scared of you?" While NMJ lifted him by his throat with one hand and choked him to death! He took control even in his murder! In the middle of being killed! He took control! He died on his own term! Badass!
His mother was bullied & ridiculed & humiliated in a brothel, so he burnt that brothel to the ground and made a temple for his mother in its place. I'm sorry about the casualties but it ain't about them.
Was thrown down the stairs of Jinlintai, was not accepted into the Jin Family or even acknowledged as a person that exists when he was working for them, when finally accepted only after becoming a war hero was given a wrong generational name and treated as a glorified servant, but eventually manipulated, mansplained, manslaughtered, manwhored (& did a lot, lot of hard, competent work) his way to the top & became the Sect Leader of the Lanling Jin Clan. Was considered the lowest of lows in his society and eventually became the Chief Cultivator! (& a VERY GOOD Chief Cultivator at that! He helped the weak & fought against systematic corruption and ruled through a decade of peace and prosperity) ICONIC! BADASS! TALENTED! INCREDIBLE! AMAZING! SPECTACULAR! SHOW-STOPPING! NEVER THE SAME! TOTALLY UNIQUE!
The way he kills Wen Ruohan in the books! "Do what you want" "yes." *kills him*
Meng Yao, "Now, that's not the way to go about this. With Sect Leader Nie's sturdy body, he might become all great and mighty again after just a few days of rest."
Wen RuoHan, "Do as you please."
Meng Yao, "Yes."
Yet, as he responded, a cold light, thinner than thin, slashed out and across. Wen RuoHan suddenly turned quiet. Warm droplets of blood splashed onto Nie MingJue's face.
The thematically appropriate way in which he killed his father. I mean just killing JGS was a service to society, but to kill him like that? 10/10. Inspired. (I guess it was actually kinda inspired by what Sect Leader He said, wasn't it?)
The things he does every time he's thrown down the stairs? When he gets up with difficulty and straightens his clothes & his hair & wipes the dust off them and bows with that "consider your ass kicked<3" smile in a low angle shot as the sun shines above him/ smiles the "you're so fucked, bestie. You just have to catch up to the fact that you're fucked, bestie.<3" smile as he goes up those long-ass stairs with difficulty as he bleeds from the head? And that straightening his clothes he does, in general, every time he's humiliated? I mean badass in general but when you consider that he was told by his mother that he shouldn't let his hat be slanted, 'cause clothes maketh men it takes more meaning. It means "I'm still a gentleman. you cannot touch me. I'm still in power, & I'm coming for you." I mean, It's very sad. as is everything else about him. especially JGS throwing him down the stairs scene. but the thing is that every time something sad happens to him, he has the coolest reaction to it that anyone could possibly have.
This is more obvious in the show. The way he kills the big baddie of the Jianghu, the most powerful man alive, the main villain of the past timeline (by backstabbing him, after being a spy in his realm without anyone noticing anything, doing tortures for him & becoming so close to him in such a short period.) and immediately convinced EVERYONE to go "oh this poor innocent paragon of virtue, this noble lord, had to kill a bitch.😔 he must be so hurt and traumatized and scarred for life.😔 I'll pay for your therapy.😔" And he was like: "do not flatter me so, my lords. You are the true heroes. Please pardon me for not killing him sooner. I shall live with these scars and trauma.😔"*off to the next murder*How can you not stan!❤️ (like...he's named Lianfang-Zun! The master of hidden fragrance! And nobody suspects that he might be hiding something!)
the Guanyin temple is the first scene in which we see him fight. And boy does he fight! He hands Sandu Shengshou's ass to him! And remember that Jiggy has a very weak golden core. And JC has WWX's golden core that is even stronger than his own & his own was pretty freaking strong. I mean did he cheat a little? Maybe. But he had enough presence of mind to think of aiming for WWX in the middle of a fight with a pretty pissed-off JC that was going after his life with both Sandu & Zidian. And he was so good at knowing people & had such a high emotional intelligence to know that JC would fall for the trick!
Interrupting his big villain moment to ask WWX how comes he & LWJ are not sleeping in the same room (and they did, actually. Before that thing happened. He was right.) And politely and respectfilly put a pause on his plan to help let his and his boyfriend's ship sail.
The way he creates unnecessary homoerotic tension in every interaction and flirts with anyone & everyone even Baxia when he's in his openly villainous mode. (Openly villainous Jiggy is my favorite Jiggy)
Divorcing Jiang cheng without being married
Divorcing Nie Mingjue without being married
"I think it's best if Young Master Wei stops right there. It's nothing if your flute's broken, but if your tongue or your fingers went missing, it'd be such a shame."
Wei WuXian immediately put his hand away, agreeing, "You make so much sense.
The person, "May I request your company?"
Wei WuXian nodded, "You're too polite,Sect Leader Jin."
Jin GuangYao smiled, "It's my pleasure."
Wei WuXian, "LianFang-Zun, you hid quite a big land deed in the secret chamber of Fragrant Palace, right beside my manuscripts. Don't you remember?"
Jin GuangYao, "Oh, that would be my fault. I should've put them separately."
Wei WuXian, "Right now, we won't be able to run from your grasp no matter what, so could you perhaps tell me just what a creature is being suppressed in this Guanyin Temple, LianFang-Zun, and quench my curiosity a bit?"
Jin GuangYao smiled, "Quenching your curiosity doesn't come at a low price. Young Master Wei, are you sure you'd like to try?"
Wei WuXian, "Oh. On second thought, then, nevermind."
Meng Yao's voice was approaching, "Your subordinate is useless to have needed your presence, Sect Leader"
Wen RuoHan laughed, "You good-for-nothing."
Meng Yao laughed as well. Wen RuoHan asked, "He's the one who killed Wen Xu?"
He's like if I'm ending their whole career I might as well give them a "this better not awaken anything in me" crisis, too. Just as a little treat. Very bad bitch of him!
English title drop in the show
Was just dropping off the kid he was babysitting at school, walked up to the first Jade of Lan, the most eligible bachelor in the Jianghu, gave him one look, and the man was GONE! Meng Yao bagged him just like that on one of his usual working days.
Last but not least, "Xue Yang did it." (As promised)

Am I the asshole for killing myself to placate the guy who wanted me dead?
Long story short, a few years ago I transmigrated into this story I read. It's a dumbfuck novel by a dumbfuck author, so it's not even worth giving the name of it, but that's the world I live in now. Anyway, to make things even worse, I just had to transmigrate as a villain; specifically, the protagonist's scumbag master, who as punishment for his assholery, was turned into a human stick.
After I transmigrated, and once The System allowed me to act OOC, I tried to cling to the protagonist's thighs so he might not want me dead this time, and would accept be fleeing in disgrace. He was an adorable bun in his disciple days, so cute and undarkened, so it wasn't hard for me to be nice to him. He was such a good student!
However, the protagonist's first major power-up occurred when, in the original novel, his scumbag teacher shoved him into hell, and in that hell, he found his golden finger, a legendary sword only he could wield. Given his need for badassery impressive enough to make dozens of maidens give him their virginity, of course he had to fall in and get his powerup. But still, The System making me do it made me undo all the work I'd been putting into my survival! And I accidentally stabbed the protagonist to boot! Stabbed him!!
Probably due to a deeper grudge, the protagonist was able to crawl out of hell faster then I expected, so I wasn't prepared to run away before he appeared. Also, because of how quickly he got his sword, he wasn't able to train properly and subdue it enough. I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone, so I gave my life to help subdue the sword. I died, thus satisfying him with my death, and also helped him subdue the sword, preventing him from harming innocents.
Of course, I had a getaway body ready, so it wasn't like I was going to be dead forever, though only I and the dumbfuck author (who also transmigrated into his shitty world) knew about the plan.
(OOC: If anyone is curious, this character is Shen Qingqiu from Scum Villain's Self Saving System, or SVSSS)

Finished A Crown of Swords, and it occurs to me that a Top 5 Most Based Characters list has become infeasible, so I'm going with a Top Ten out of a cast of hundreds of named characters I've encountered, so these are still the cream of the crop.
Number 10: Perrin. Perrin didn't really have a great showing in Crown of Swords, which cost him some points (a unit of measure I refuse to explain), especially coming off of the high of the end of Lord of Chaos. Standing up to Rand definitely wins him a place in the Top Ten, but not any higher then the Number Ten spot. Hopefully, future novels can get him higher on this list.
Number 9: Lan. Lan really came back with a vengeance after getting sidelined for Lord of Chaos. Saving best girl Nynaeve from drowning, marrying her and then being part of the insane final fight of the Ebou Dar storyline really did him some favors.
Number 8: Birgette. Calling Nynaeve and Elayne on their abuse of perennial most based character Mat Cauthon and making them feel shame, along with general badassery as a hero of legend cements her spot on this list.
Number 7: Alviarin. Revealed as the head of the Tower Black Ajah this novel, Alviarin has one of the strongest showings in the novel. Becoming the Amyrlin Seat in all but name by threatening to expose Elaida is pretty cunning, and she seems to be on it, even working under the orders of one of the Forsaken.
Number 6: Moridin. Taking the Old Tongue word for death is some straight out of the kitchen sink edge, but as a cunning tactician and powerful caster (an embodiment of the power and cunning of the Dark One himself), one cannot deny that Moridin is the most based villain we've seen thus far.
Now we're getting into the Top Five, where places are more or less secured and there's some light jostling between characters, but nothing serious. If you've seen previous lists, you'll probably see a few of these coming.
Number 5: Min. Min really has some good moments in Crown of Swords, like when she insists on accompanying Rand on some of the absolutely insane things he does towards the end of Crown of Swords, like using his ta'veren powers to force the Sea Folk into submission and routing a group of rebels. Being part of Rand's Polycule of Destiny definitely loses some points, since she's almost entirely defined by her relationship to Rand.
Number 4: Rand. Speaking of the Dragon Reborn, Rand had a spectacular showing in Crown of Swords. By this point, he's more or less had it with people trying to manipulate him, and we see that the deaths he's caused are starting to way on him, and they affect his decisions. The scene where he sits reciting the names of the dead Maidens with Perrin is particularly impactful and shows the trait. As we all know, empathy is pretty fuckin based, and Rand displays plenty of it here, along with his sword skills and magic.
Number 3: Nynaeve. While on the topic of empathy, the only person who's first reaction to what Mat suffers through in the back half of this novel is empathy is Nynaeve. (Seriously, the scene where Elayne laughs at and victim blames Mat, essentially saying "you asked for this", has earned her my eternal ire, and she will never grace these lists, even if she felt bad afterwards. Laughing at someone in their most vulnerable moment shows a complete lack of empathy, which is the most cringe thing imaginable.) Nynaeve also breaks through her Barrier and marries the man of her dreams, two major goals of hers, and we love to see things like that.
Number 2: Moiraine. If you read these lists, you know she's gonna be number two, as much as the man, the myth, the flaming legend is gonna be number one.
Number 1: MAT CAUTHON! Mat suffers one of the most horrific ordeals a person can experience at the hands of Tylin, and his perseverance in keeping promise to Rand while actively suffering through a nervous breakdown (as shown when be yells at Elayne and has a moment of panic when he realizes that the room in the Rahad that the Bowl of Winds is stored in only has one exit) shows two other amazingly based traits - perseverance and loyalty. Mat is able to put aside his own suffering in order to help his companions and keep his promise to Rand. The moments where he acts as an older brother to Olver, including the final moments of the novel, are also incredibly based, cuz looking out for those who cannot help themselves is based as fuck.

WIP Whenever
or as I'm calling this one, Wednesday Wrensday
Tagged by @mareenavee to share a bit of WIP! So, have a bit of an upcoming chapter of Ascent from the Ashes. This bit is part of a hc that I have that the Dragonborn's soul can take over them for a short time, and I have given Wren's soul a name :) With as much of a Sad Wet Beast that she usually is, I thought I could let her have a small moment of power and badassery. As a treat.
Tagging @elfinismsarts @paraparadigm @changelingsandothernonsense @thelavenderelf and anyone else who wants to do this!
Something switched within her soul.  An exhilaration like she had never known before, and a hunger that only dominance could sate.  The water felt cool against her flesh with her dragon’s soul blazing as it was, the metallic scent of his blood lingering in the mist only fueling its desire for death.  Wren let her head fall back and she looked up to the clear skies, watching a little bird zoom across the heavens, oblivious to what was happening beneath it.  She laughed, softly at first, then it grew louder until her entire body shook with its force.  What began as a mindless cackle evolved into a hot-blooded scream that tore its way from her core, burning its way out of her as if her belly were filled with oil and someone had thrown a lit torch down her throat.
"You're fucking crazy!"  A voice caught her ears and silenced her cry.  She slowly turned to its source and saw the Redguard woman backing away from where Dagon was hitched, a worn iron sword in her trembling hands.  "What in the name of the Divines is wrong with you?"
Don't let her get away.
Wren rose from the pool and made her way out of the blazing shallows.  The Altmer bandit's body floated lazily across the surface behind her, moving at the whim of the churning waters.  Nahlyahdez had taken over her once again, and she both loved and hated the feeling it gave her.
She stepped foot on the dry ground, feeling every pebble, every crisp leaf and blade of grass against her skin as vividly as if she were hunched to the ground to feel it between her fingers.  Every bead of water rolling across her bare skin felt like a shard of ice carving its way through her flesh, each individual hair swaying in the nearly still air and tugging mercilessly at her scalp.  A ripple of white-hot fire pulsed through her body, down her limbs to the tip of each finger, throbbing behind her eyes with every beat of her heart.  She had become one with the beast.

[ Category: The Promised Land ]
| So while her mother is busy trying to fit into the world of the Promised Land, because I can never find a way to make my OCs work out the way I intend for them; Here's Karmen in her new purpose!.... And also actually has a place that fits well; Of course she is Caligo and Asim's daughter, and is in fact a mix of the two's origins. While having some of her father's Fae attributes, while having mostly of her mother's Witch blood... Although whether or not she's more powerful than her traumatised mama.. That's a question for another time!
.. Anyways, cuz I have now made it a tradition, I draw Karmen in her refs always at her 17 years old glory, cuz kids and babies are hard to draw- Also cuz that's when her badassery begins lol..
Name: Karmen
Height: 5ft "2"
Species: Nocturnal Elf / However by the family tribe she is officially considered "Fae" despite physical evidence of her born as mixed race
Extra:
She grows up and becomes a mechanic at the age of 17, she started becoming invested in technology and such when she was 3; Overtime is became a passion, hence why she is capable of making small contraptions out of scraps. Her biggest project (which takes her to the age of 25, roughly an 8 year time span) when she randomly comes across a long abandoned assassin bot who appeared to have been built by the Deceitful before being discarded
She's very much a daddy's girl since Asim has spoiled her silly when she was young, although not blaming her mother for being the one who is on edge however; Karmen would always protect her mother, even when she was just a toddler. Her parents (Asim mostly) would tell her the sad stories and upbringing especially of Caligo, hence why she became protective of her mother figure at such a young age
She was given a spear by the tribe elder when she was 10, a special heirloom that was passed down from the "Sights of the Future" tribe; Although Asim decided to personally smith twin swords for her in hopes she'd pick up on his fighting style so to train her well, Karmen genuinely isn't a fan of dual wielding blades. Watching her be so natural with the spear however, inspires Caligo to try spear training themselves
Since the tribe mostly consists of travellers who had left their "nest" to search for other places of safety away from threats, Karmen always finds a way to "surf" down slopes whether rocky, snowy, sandy and whatnot; ... So she constructed herself a shield that can swiftly slide on almost any terrain. It's rumoured that she used her witch abilities she got from her mother to make it "magical", however Asim jokingly likes to claim it's the magic of the Fae
She can be an awkward and clumsy mess, she's prone to having tantrums like her mother, however since Caligo is technically still young in a sense, Karmen is more of a saint when it comes to them. Mother can act out BADLY, not their intentions however
Calls the tribe elder "grampi" since Asim practically refers to him as "grandfather", so she's kind of picked up on that too but more childish
She trains herself so she can eventually take over the tribe from her father one day, however since it's still Asim's turn next to replace the elder once they leave the world of living, she'll have to wait some more.. Which isn't much of a problem for her, she's a very patient person surprisingly
Hearing Caligo speak of their older sister sometimes, Karmen during moments where she's not being supervised has tried on a few occasions to look out for her (Katsumi), however hearing rumours of a "bounty hunter" appearing more frequently within recent activity, she's nervous.. Yet she has some theories on who that could be
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
I believe that's all I have for her new purpose for now, I need to really re-sort Caligo and Katsumi's re-purposing as well but for some reason I am really struggling on trying to fit them into this weird puzzle as is so they might not be shown off or be appearing anytime soon yet til I find something that could eventually work out
Also I've just noticed, since I tend to colour scheme a lot of my posts...
WHERE THE FUCK IS YELLOW?! THEY GOT RID OF THE COLOUR YELLOW!! WHY!?!? THAT WAS A NICE YELLOW TUMBLR WHY'D YOU GET RID OF IT!?!?!?!
That sucks balls!!.... But at least I can copy-paste the text even the colour font on other posts, it just sucks now cuz now I won't actually be able to use it for future characters refs!... And I still have yellow-mainly themed OCs that I've still yet to re-design... This sucks now it's even more limited than what it was.. Especially with this AI bullshit scandal they too decided to jump on the waste of time bandwagon for...
fuck the Internet it's just a scummy cesspool of bullshit, lies, hate and corrupted companies and rich shits ruining the lives of every day working class....
Fuck you!!
... Anyways- Yeah I have name for the tribe now, "Sights of the Future", although very much blind to what the future will bring... They look onwards and either embrace or adapt to whatever happens to them... And I will NOT be doing the same! I look onward to the future and all I see is black, humans are devolving, they have adapted only so far and now they are moving backwards like the cesspool of lies and deceit they are..

"most people around robert didn't have high expectations for him morally wise at this point..."
I don't think anyone had any high expectations of Robert morally-wise... But the fact that they wouldn't be surprised or didn't expect better doesn't mean they can't still be annoyed with him.
"...someone feeling unrequited love for their parabatai is not illegal. parabatai in love is only illegal if they both pursue it."
That is, probably, exactly what is written in the Law and also the spirit of the Law. However, I do strongly believe that with a society as conservative and frankly sometimes bullheaded as Idris seems to be, that probably doesn't... really matter. You cannot look me in the eye and tell me you believe if Idris were to know Michael Wayland was in love with his parabatai there wouldn't be people pushing for their bond to be broken. I do understand Robert's hesitance to have his entire race looking at him like there's something wrong with him again. Or to see the same happen to Michael, his parabatai whom he does love in some way.
"i think he'd die before asking to go under a public trial by the mortal sword to swear that he never wanted michael carnally etc..."
...I think I'd also rather die at that point... Like no, I will not be swearing to my entire nation that I do not have sexual and/or romantic feelings for my best friend, thank you very much.
"And he couldn’t stand to have Michael looking at him like this. Because what if he started wondering, too?"
This bit always gets me because, alright, Robert reads very aromantic to me (or extremely repressed emotionally, one of the two, possibly both) and I suppose being raised in Idris in the '70s/'80s wouldn't be very conducive to him figuring out how to do relationships in that scenario. Everything else about his mental state, however? How badly did his parents and community fuck up for him to have no confidence in anything he does or thinks??
about the law and the parabatai bond, looks like you got exactly what i imagined! i was wondering about that today because it's something that would come up on my fic idea. (i have to keep calling it alive!michael AU as it doesn’t have any comprehensive working title? lol)
i usually don't reread TEWL often because the angst is too much for me, i just love robert so, so much... (and at this point i memorized the whole thing anyway). i'm a die-hard waywood shipper so i don't usually get behind the aromantic!robert headcanon, but i find it cool and i know artist ragnaei has done this super cute art of it that i love
i think objectively robert's feelings and anxieties don't look abnormal for a 18 years old, but all the other teenage characters being super hyped on their integrity and badassery doesn’t help. ah, the power of protagonism, if only robert had that, all his problems would be over
since the worldbuilding is weird, for my own takes i'm more willing to make the so called 'clave' better so for it to not look like a weak rip off of real world european/american politics, because that doesn’t work for me, so i'm more willing to blame, let's say, robert's parents, than anyone else, but i also want to flesh them out more because cartoon evil parents is something else i'm not interested in

Orla talked to her best friend, the king’s son, and told him what she’d seen, and they exiled themselves for their own safety. Kione (playlist)
Race: Human
Gender: Male

As his story progresses, Kione starts to realize the level of emotional/mental abuse he was subjected to all his life, and he begins to heal from it. After the war, he takes the throne as king <3
Akka (playlist)
Race: Dragon (alloyi)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: asexual lesbian
Powers/abilities: in her human form, she has incredible speed, strength, and endurance, with enhanced sight, smell, and hearing. As a dragon, she has all of the above, can breathe fire, and has invulnerable scales. When she regains the ability to do so, she is able to shapeshift between both forms at will.
Skills: hand to hand, swords, whips, general badassery, sarcasm
Backstory: Like all other alloyi dragons, Akka was taken to the Dragon King soon after hatching to be drafted into his secret guard. She was trained to be a living weapon from the moment she could walk, and when she came of age, joined the Dragon King’s secret order of assassins. When an uprising erupted, the assassins were sent to kill everyone involved. Akka refused to kill civilians, and as punishment, her ability to take her true form was stripped away, and she was banished. Akka spent several years working as a mercenary and tracking down dragon sages who could restore her true form. She met and bonded with Vinali on a job, and from that point on, they became a mercenary team. They were hired by Orla to help her uncover the truth about the king, and eventually joined her found family <3
Vinali (playlist)

Gender: Male

Backstory: his people banished him from the forest because of his bond with Onyx, and he traveled the continent with Onyx for a time, hunting and selling game to survive before eventually taking on work as a mercenary. He and Akka teamed up and basically became siblings <3
Vinali is super chill with everyone but Halo drives him INSANE. He cannot STAND him. ;)
But ofc as time goes on they start to learn more about each other and get drawn in !
When Halo is kidnapped by the slavers again, Vinali goes after him with Onyx. He finds Halo half-dead after already escaping, and gets him the rest of the way to safety.
When Halo and Vinali hate each other at first, Onyx LOOOOVES Halo and snuggles with him a lot. Onyx was actually the first person Halo actually opened up to which is just funny because Vinali is just >:O the entire time
At some point they are back in the forest and they run into Vinali’s old tribe. And they’re just tearing into him about how he’s such a failure and they wish he’d never been born and Vinali is just WILTING until Halo fucking RIPS INTO THEM and the whole team collectively start throwing hands <3
Halo (playlist)
Race: Sky Elf
Gender: Male
Sexuality: asexual (it’s the trauma <3)
Powers/abilities: can fly
Skills: hand to hand, knife combat
Backstory: (tw sexual assault mention) He grew up in the Mooncrag Mountains and was kidnapped at 13 and sold into slavery as a sex slave. He escaped the slavers when he was 15 and could have returned home, but felt too damaged from the years of captivity so he lived in the human kingdoms for several years, stealing and fighting in underground rings to survive, all the while moving around to stay ahead of the slavers hunting him. He runs into the other protagonists and is forced to briefly join their group to escape from the antagonist’s minions.
Eventually, after coming to love his friends like family and after healing from some of his trauma, he finally went home to see his family for the first time in years. Unfortunately, the sky elves’ homelands were destroyed by the antagonist, and Halo didn’t reunite with his family until the war was over.
At some point the slavers capture him again and take him to Pyria (the woman who originally “owned” him for her brothel) but Halo escapes and scars Pyria’s face on his way out.
Ether (playlist)
Race: human ? kind of ?
Gender: ??????
Sexuality: aroace
Powers/abilities: has a strong affinity to the dead, and can communicate with and even control them at will. He can control ghosts the easiest, but he can also reanimate skeletons and bodies, though it takes a lot of energy
Skills: he knows a lot about death and ghost stuff. idk if that counts as a skill
Backstory: he was the prince of an ancient kingdom far up in the north. When the kingdom fell under siege, the soldiers swore an oath to defend their lands at all costs. But when the enemies came sweeping into the capital, the soldiers panicked and fled to the castle to hide. Because of the broken oath, the castle was cursed by Eion, god of the Void; all the occupants of the castle who had broken their oaths were cursed to wander the ruins of their home for eternity until they could fulfill their oaths. Ether wasn’t a soldier, but he was inside the castle when it was cursed, so he was sort of…halfway cursed. The soldiers were all ghosts who were bound to the ruins, but Ether wasn’t 100% dead. He just…wasn’t 100% alive, either. He could control the ghosts in the castle, but he couldn’t touch them, eat, or sleep. He was dead enough that he couldn’t interact with the world around him, but he was alive enough that he still had his mind and will (unlike a ghost.) The curse cloaked the entire land in fog, and rumors spread around the continent that it was haunted. Which, true. And for more than 500 years, Ether’s people were forgotten as he wandered the ruins of what was once his home.
In the present day, the team was being chased by the antagonist’s minions, and they were driven into the haunted northern lands. They were forced to take shelter inside the castle ruins from a storm, and met the cursed inhabitants. They were nearly killed by the spirits, but Ether held them back so he could talk to the group. They convinced him to help them fight off the minions, and the ghost army swept through the enemy and destroyed them all. The oaths taken to defend the land were fulfilled, so the curse was lifted. The ghosts moved on to the next world, but Ether remained—he wasn’t dead in the first place, remember, and had earned Eion’s favor with how compassionate he was toward the other spirits. Instead of treating them like husks, Ether was kind to the spirits for the entire time they were trapped together. Since Eion is the patron god of lost souls, he blessed Ether with a second chance at life—and with power over the dead. Ether joined the group in their quest!
“Ether” isn’t his real name btw. He can’t remember most of his previous life before the curse. He can’t remember his family or friends, or his own name.
Gods/Goddesses
Omana (Goddess of the Earth)
Mother of all life, and mother of all gods
Married to Eion
According to legend, she was a good and fair goddess who ruled with compassion. When she became old, she divided her powers among her children: her eldest, Tadon, became the god of forests; animals, plants, and all life. Her next, Eborh, became god of the rivers and streams; his twin sister Isthys became goddess of the sea. Hetyx became the god of fire, and Iana, the youngest, became the goddess of the moon and skies. They all accepted the gifts; Hetyx, however, believed that he should have received all of Omana’s powers. In indignation, he fought against his brothers and sisters in an attempt to steal their powers. During the struggle, Omana was slain, and the land shattered into pieces (the continents). Iana, who had been by her mother’s side when she was killed, was thrust into the cosmos by the release of energy as the goddess died; trapped in the sky for all eternity, Iana became known as The Watchful, because she watches over the world and blesses those who are kind to others. Hetyx became known as The Exiled; his brothers and sister banished him to the east, where he created volcanoes and rivers of fire so they could not disturb him there.
Omana's death caused the planet to wilt; no new babies were born, and no plants grew. The imbalance of nature was so great that Omana's spirit was summoned back to Earth to replenish it. She lives, but can no longer take a physical form.
Omana is one of the universally worshiped goddesses; each culture chooses one of the siblings to worship individually, but they all worship Omana because she is the lifegiver.
Eion (God of the Void)
Husband of Omana
God of darkness, death, and the cosmos; Omana is life and he is death. They are caught in an eternal dance of balance. When Omana was slain, Eion was so grieved that he summoned dark creatures from the land of the dead to roam the world. For a time, nothing would grow because of the god's grief and because Omana wasn't there to breathe life into the world. Until eventually, Omana's spirit returned, and Eion recalled his dark servants to uphold the balance once more.
He is also universally worshiped as a keeper of balance, and as the guide who leads the dead to the afterlife and looks after them there. Eion is considered to be the patron god of lost souls, and helps spirits find their way home.
Iana (Goddess of the Moon)
Daughter of Omana and Eion
After being trapped in the sky, she has been caught in an eternal orbit around Earth as she tries to find her way home. She is kind above all else; a gentle, benevolent goddess. But her wrath is incomprehensibly catastrophic when it is unleashed.
Her children are the sky elves, and they both love and fear her. They worship her from the Moon Caves in the tallest mountains, though she has followers all over the continent.
She is often depicted with the cycles of the moon on her forehead
Hetyx (God of Fire)
Son of Omana and Eion
After being banished to the east, he created his own land of fire and volcanoes for his followers to live and thrive. He is often written off as the “bad god” but in truth he’s like any other god: he follows his nature. Fire is rebellious and explosive, and so is he.
His children are the fire elves and the dragons. The fire elves still worship him, though the Dragon King has outlawed worship of any being other than him. Many dragons still pay their respects to Hetyx, though it comes with great risk of punishment from the Dragon King. Hetyx blessed the first dragons, the alloyi, with great power; some dragons believe that one day, Hetyx will free the dragons from their king's tyrannical rule.
Tadon (God of the Forest)
Son of Omana and Eion
He takes after Omana the most in both looks and nature. He is kind and nurturing, but he has a harsh side that reflects the harsh nature of the forest and the constant battle for survival that grips it.
His children are the forest elves and the sentient wolves. In the old days he chose warriors from both tribes and bestowed a Joining on them both, but those times have long since passed.
Eborh (God of the River)
Son of Omana and Eion, twin brother of Isthys
He is mellow and reserved, but can be incredibly cruel at times. He is a protector of the rivers, and does not take kindly to those who damage them.
He is the father of the river elves
Isthys (Goddess of the Sea)
Daughter of Omana and Eion, twin sister of Eborh
She is wildly unpredictable. She brings ships safely to harbor or smashes them against the reefs as she pleases, and all who journey on the seas have come to fear and respect her power. She is the patron goddess of sailors and seafarers.
She is the mother of merfolk, and was the first to teach songs to the sirens.
Elves
Forest elves
Habitat: Deciduous forest
Appearance: skin tones range from pale to dark; eye color includes gray, blue, green, black, and brown. Some have antlers or horns; young elves have the markings of a fawn which fade as they grow older.
Lifestyle: their primary source of food comes from hunting, gathering berries, nuts, and mushrooms, and raising domestic animals for slaughter. They are generally peaceful, though there is fierce competition with other races for food in the forest.
Culture: in the ancient days, forest elves and the great wolves of the forest were close allies; the greatest warriors of both tribes entered into a pact and developed a mystical bond called a Joining. However, as time passed and the two races grew further apart, the wolves more wild and the elves less warlike, this tradition was lost. Every few centuries, one elf and one wolf are Joined at birth, but due to the current state of both races, those two are often shunned from their homes.
Marriage: two partners weave an elaborate awning from leaves and vines which provides the shelter for the ceremony. Betrothals come from exchanging Eternal Blossoms; by ritual, the blossoms become bracelets that curl around the forearm. Traditionally, the blossoms are switched so both partners have the other blossom.
Funerals: The body is buried in the shade of a copse of trees, and seeds are extracted from the dead Eternal Blossom and spread over the earth to eventually grow and bloom above the grave.
Coming-of-age: When a child reaches the right age, he receives his own Eternal Blossom. It is a plant that is bonded to the life force of the individual, and it will live as long as the individual does. It passes through the cycle of the seasons but never dies; in summer it is lush and green, in fall it turns gold/orange/red, in winter it turns brown, and in spring it blossoms in a burst of colors. Blossoms are worn around the neck and shown only to close family members; it is a common practice to pluck petals and gift them to family. If properly preserved, the petals will not wither, even after the person (and the original blossom) dies.
Gods/goddesses: Tadon (god of the forest)
Language: Elvish (forest variant)
Sky elves
Habitat: The Mooncrag Mountains
Appearance: skin tones range from pale to very dark. All sky elves have wings between the shoulder blades, though the wings are as unique as the individual. Bird, bat, and insect wings are all common. Some have dragonlike wings, though it is rare
Lifestyle: They hunt like hawks do; diving at prey from above. Sky elves also grow moonwheat, which can only survive at high elevations. They are also peaceful, since most other races cannot survive at the mountain peaks for long, which makes it well-protected from enemies.
Culture: The Moon Caves, located at the tallest peak of the tallest mountain in the range, are a place of great cultural significance. Events like marriages and naming ceremonies (welcoming a new baby into the tribe) take place there, and the caves are also the only place where Moon Stones and Moon Crystals (both used for sky elf betrothal necklaces) can be found. The Moon Caves are also where the Moon Goddess Iana speaks to sky elves and gives wisdom and guidance.
Marriages: betrothal necklaces are carved from the crystals and stones found in the Moon Caves. The marriage ceremony is performed at the very center of the caves, where a massive moonstone rests in the center of a pool. The entire area is open to the sky, and when the moon is at its highest point, the marriage ceremony is performed.
Funerals: the body is burned at the tallest peak of the mountain at night, so the ashes can float upward and join Iana in the sky. The sky elves believe that each star is a soul of the ancestors looking down on them from above.
Coming-of-age: the first molting/shedding of wings is a very significant event, and is celebrated by the entire tribe. The child’s shed feathers/scales/fur from the wings are woven into the garland that is wrapped around the arch at the center of the tribe, and there is music and dancing. Afterward, the child performs a silent vigil at the central Moon Cave at the hour when the moon is highest. There, the goddess blesses them, and the child officially becomes a member of the tribe.
Gods/goddesses: Iana (goddess of the moon)
Language: Elvish (sky variant)
River elves
Habitat: an island in the middle of the largest river on the continent
Appearance: similar to forest elves, though their skin has a blue/gray tint to it
Lifestyle: they fish from the rivers and grow wheat and vegetables. They are relatively peaceful, though their island has often come under attack, so they have to defend their home from invaders.
Culture: The great river beasts have been tamed and domesticated by the river elves, and are used to help patrol their borders. It is a coming-of-age ceremony for young river elves to claim and name their own beast.
Language: Elvish (river variant)
Fire elves
Habitat: Volcanic areas
Appearance: their skin is dark, and they have glowing red/orange markings. Their eye color includes red, orange, gold, yellow, and gray.
Lifestyle: they are very peaceful, despite their intimidating appearance. They cultivate Fire Blossoms, a rare and powerful flower that only grows on the slopes of volcanoes, and a staple of their diet. They have little use for hunting due to the harsh environment they live in; very few races can survive there for long, but the fire elves are able to withstand the extreme environment due to their invulnerability to fire, smoke, and natural gasses of the volcanoes.
Culture: young elves are bathed in lava when they come of age; it is symbolic of their birth as an official member of the tribe.
Language: Elvish (fire variant)
Dragons
Alloyi
Habitat: alloyi dragons can be found virtually anywhere, but they seem to prefer caves
Appearance: their scales are glittery and metallic, ranging in color from gold, copper, steel, silver, iron, and more. Their scales are utterly unbreakable, and their speed and strength is nearly unmatched.
Lifestyle: alloyi dragons are incredibly rare, and every time one is born, the Dragon King often drafts the dragonet into service as soon as it can walk; this is because alloyi dragons are legendarily powerful, with their invulnerable scales and fighting prowess, and the Dragon King forces them to become his inner guard to "enforce the peace" in his kingdom.
Culture: alloyi dragons already number very few, and the Dragon King drafting them all only further prevents them from forming their own culture.
Elementi
Habitat: elementi dragons are found in various places; stone dragons in the mountains, fire dragons in the volcanoes, water dragons in the seas and rivers, forest dragons in the forests, etc. There is a land in the east where all dragons of different types live together beneath the Dragon King; because of his cruel ways, many prefer to live outside the dragon-controlled lands, and many dragon parents have attempted to smuggle their alloyi offspring out of the land before the Dragon King can take them.
Appearance:
Lifestyle: dragons primarily live and travel in bales (family group name), but several are also fairly solitary. Dragons with established territories are very protective of their homes, and can be hostile to anyone enroaching on their land.
for the sake of not infodumping too much I'll cap it here. but just know that I am constantly Filled With Thoughts about these silly little guys

Yu Yu Hakusho 30 Day Challenge Day 18: Hardest Hit
... so I stopped doing this challenge about... six years ago? But the nostalgia bug bit me and here we are.
Tumblr media
This is not it, but it sure is a favorite of mine. Keiko is so much cooler in the manga, she just... has about 90% less screentime l-lol.
How do you define “hardest hit?”
Is it the most painful? The most consequential? The most epic?
How about the most lethal?
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about Hiei.
You can’t really even call this a fight. Hiei and Zeru talk some trash to each other, Zeru gets off one attack, and Hiei feints, then shrugs it off like it’s nothing.
Only he was lying.
We don’t find this out until after the fight, when Kurama gets his internal monologue on, but Hiei was outmatched against Zeru. He was forced to do the equivalent of swatting a fly with a  blowtorch because the blowtorch was all he had within reach. Zeru was built up as Just That Damn Good, and while Kuwabara’s interpretation of this moment was “Ha, guess not,” Kurama, who knows Hiei very well, realizes the truth.
Tumblr media
Our analogy of the blowtorch and the fly doesn’t tell the whole story. Hiei basically had to set himself on fire with the blowtorch in order to kill the fly, who also had a blowtorch that he could use without burning himself. And Hiei is also a fly.
This is the limitation of analogies, people.
Another reason this is the hardest hit is because it rebounded back on Hiei himself. Both Genkai and Kurama are worried about the damage he did to himself with this stunt, and it’s a bit of a panic moment when they realize he played his trump card so early. From that perspective, him getting healed by Ruka’s kekkai is kind of a cop-out, but Hiei’s subsequent badassery is so much fun to watch that absolutely no one minds.
The set-up for this moment is kind of amazing, too, in that there’s hardly any at all. We don’t even find out that Hiei is a fire demon until this moment-- he only used his sword and his eye powers before this. Thematically, it makes perfect sense, however, with his sister being an ice demon.
There’s also the way we’re trained to, like Kuwabara, immediately accept this moment at face value. This is only Hiei’s fifth fight in the manga, following Yusuke, Seiryu, the army of lame half-breed demons, and Tarukane’s mansion staff. Yusuke beat him on a lucky shot, which he was a little bitter about in the beginning, while the half-breeds were all cleared off-panel and Tarukane’s minions were nothing. The only boss fight he won before this was Seiryu, so Seiryu is who we compare Zeru to.
And at first glance, the fights are very similar, particularly in the anime. Hiei talks some shit, feints, then his opponent dies.
As a quick aside, YuYu, like any shonen fighting manga adapted into anime, loves its padding-- and it needs more than most, since two volumes’ worth of manga chapters were left out. YuYu avoids whole filler storylines (the last-arc tournament fights probably mostly happened in the manga, just offscreen), but the easiest ways to add some runtime to this cash cow are 1) Give Keiko and Shizuru some introspection, 2) Give Botan and/or Koenma & Jorge some slapstick, and 3) Have Hiei *not* win a fight on the first move.
Especially in the manga, where Hiei took out Seiryu instantly, sixteen cuts on the first exchange, this seems like more of the same. Hiei’s a badass. His fights would be anticlimactic if they weren’t so cool, just because they’re OVER so quickly.
So the fact that he pays the price for this one moment of badassitude is kind of amazing, and it serves to make his subsequent mastery of this technique all the more powerful.

Liking a character for combat pragmatism/fight aggressively..... well I guess it may be caused by how tokusatsu's (or other action-based media) main appeal to people would be the, well, special effects, as in the genre name ("tokushu satsuei"); people watch those just for the fights and the suits.
Liking fight may also be related to wanting power fantasy, so the ones who fight the coolest to them like being aggressive and brutal (usually done in rival archetypes), would be what catches their attention. Seems that vulgar behavior is considered a display for badassery outside of fight too, for some reason - which infuriates me that this seem to produce a double standard, like praising Azuma's Revolve On use (against Bujin Sword) sky high, but ignoring Keiwa's own creative use of Revolve On. Or perhaps also their performance against the Premiums (Azuma losing against 2, Keiwa having upper hand against 1).
Overall only what's "cool" got appreciated and paid attention, regardless if someone else out there has them - not limited to action but in other stuff like character personality or gorgeous/intimidating looks. There are those who also encourage people to turn their brains off when watching toku, rather than getting deep about children's shows - including limiting the definition of good guy/hero to those who beat up bad guys, anyone who are on their side are good too, etc. regardless of character or context.
Even though there are toku episodes that brought these topic up where a kid wanting to be Rider to be "cool" is not considered a heroic trait as it's more about worshiping violence - like Ryuki ep. 27.
Yeah, that's my impression of it. They're just in it for the action stuff.
Which is a shame, I feel, because when people get too caught up in the flashing lights and the collectible gimmicks and the shiny armor and the cool weapons, they tend to miss out on the very human side of tokusatsu. While I don't think it's wrong to enjoy tokusatsu just for the shonen-like action and stuff going boom, I feel like when you just turn your brain off you miss a lot of the things that would make you appreciate the genre more.
I mean... yeah, it's a kid's tv show. Doesn't mean it should be shallow and insubstantial action all the time. Honestly, I think it shouldn't be underestimated how much kids (let alone grown ass men) can pick up on a bunch of guys in rubber suits hitting each other if even a modicum of thought is actually put into making it.

If my outfit does not make me look like a queer-coded Disney villain then what even is the point?
