when tony started working for bucky, he never imagined that anything would ever, could ever happen between them.

for starters, bucky was a decade older than tony. not that he had a huge issue with age differences, but still. tony was only in his early 20s when they met.

but more importantly, as far as tony could tell, bucky was happily married.

so despite the immediate attraction that he felt the second he laid eyes on bucky and the growing feelings he began to develop the more they got to know each other over the years, tony knew that nothing could ever come of it and that he needed to be content with just admiring the other man from afar.

but sometimes bucky would say things, or just look at tony a certain way, and he’d wonder if maybe, just maybe, the feelings he had were reciprocated.

regardless, though, he knew he would never do anything about it. there was no reason for him to do such a thing and nothing could change his mind about that.

not even when tony complained about another failed attempt at dating during happy hour one day after work and bucky said, “i could never understand why these idiotic bastards would rather waste another day getting drunk with their equally idiotic friends instead of spending time with you.”

or when bucky took him out for a celebratory lunch after signing a major deal with a new partner and their knees kept brushing under the table, and bucky just kept smiling at him for the whole meal like they were sharing a secret.

also not when they were on the phone with each other at midnight trying to salvage an important client relationship and suddenly the conversation segued into personal relationships and when tony sadly confided that he didn’t think anyone had ever loved him before, bucky vehemently declared, “doll, how could anyone know you and not love you? hell, i’m pretty sure i’ve been half in love with you for years.”

and especially not when they were on a business trip and heading back to their separate hotel rooms after a dinner with their biggest client and bucky kissed him before the elevator doors opened on his floor, and tony’s lips tingled for the rest of the night.

no, tony didn’t do anything about his feelings even after all of that because bucky was married.

then tony meets steve at a big company event, where this big beautiful blond man looks adorably lost and alone in a room with four hundred people. tony can’t help but drift closer to him and introduce himself, offer a drink, and ignore everyone else if only so he could make steve feel more comfortable in this crowd of strangers.

they spend the rest of the night together, talking for hours and giving each other meaningful and longing glances, smiling like they both know where they’d like this to go next. tony’s fingers absently stroke along steve’s hand that is placed on the cocktail table they’re leaning against, and steve’s other hand is playing with tony’s hair and sending shivers down his spine when his fingers brush against tony’s neck, and tony has to resist the urge to rub against steve’s hand like a cat.

steve has just leaned closer, lips and breath whispering across tony’s skin to speak softly into his ear when bucky finds them.

tony reluctantly pulls away from steve, refusing to feel embarrassed or guilty in any way, especially when he knows bucky likely interrupted them just so he could ask tony to get back to work. this is a work event, after all.

but then steve looks at bucky and smiles, and says, “oh hey sweetheart, finally got some time for us?”

and bucky glances between steve and tony, sees how there’s barely any space between them and grins from cheek to cheek. “looks like you’ve met my husband, doll.”

and, oh.

oh.

well.

it looks like tony suddenly has a lot to think about.

When they break up, Pepper makes Tony promise her that she'll get to give the final stamp of approval for his future partner(s). He is obviously confused, but it's Pepper, so he agrees.

Over the span of three months, she rejects a total of fifteen people—including Darcy. And for some reason, every time she does that she'd throw a look at any or both Brooklyn super soldiers.

Steve and Bucky are terrified of what that means.

It all comes to head after a month.

Tony's birthday roles out and they're all faintly buzzed in front of the TV. It's there she lets it slip that after the Mandarin fiasco, her body temperature ran a lot hotter than average humans. And since Tony is a giant cuddle-bug, she's looking just the right sort of partner for him.

Steve and Bucky don't miss the look she sends their way.

The next day, they tell her their body temperature and finally get her seal of approval.

Tony had used them countless times before and never once had a problem with them. He didn't trust one-night stands to tie him up, and he definitely couldn't let word get out that Tony Stark liked to be tied up and fucked up the ass. That was definitely not the kind of imagery his father would approve of when people thought of the Starks.

Tony had been really good about keeping his kinks under wraps so far. He and Rhodey had done a lot of exploring together in college while they were figuring things out. Rhodey was overseas now, though, and Tony didn't have anyone he trusted that he could play with.

This is why he had self-release handcuffs.

They were padded leather, sturdy enough to make him feel secure and comfy enough to not dig into his skin. They definitely weren't your typical metal handcuffs like a cop would use. No, these were luxury handcuffs for playing hard, and if Tony had someone he could trust, he'd let them fuck him hard for hours while he was restrained in these bad boys.

He liked that he could feel restrained but still have that control. He could feel submissive and used, even if only by toys, and still be able to stop the play whenever he needed by releasing himself. That was great and all, until one night he was playing, and the cuffs didn't release.

Tony immediately started to panic, and his sense of safety vanished.

He tugged on the restraints to no avail, the vibrating plug in his ass forcing him to come over and over again throughout the night even though he just wanted it all to end.

He was horrified when his friends showed up the next morning. He had plans to grab a bite to eat with Steve and Bucky, and Tony was fairly certain that the couple thought it was a date, but he wasn't going to voice that just in case he was wrong about it.

He didn't want to embarrass himself by assuming they liked him, but as it turns out, he was bound to embarrass himself anyway. He heard them exit the elevator, heard Bucky call out with something that was probably charming, something Steve probably rolled his eyes at.

Tony was too busy sobbing to process his words. His entire body felt like one raw nerve, broken open and exposed, and fresh tears rolled down his cheeks as he contemplated whether or not he should call out for help or pray for them to leave, so he wouldn't be discovered in such a vulnerable position by the two guys that he desperately wanted to like him.

It was another orgasm being forced out of him—how many he'd had now, he had no way of knowing—that made up his mind, and he was screaming out for them.

Bucky was the first to enter, pausing to take in the scene. And for the briefest moment, his mind struggled to process what was happening, but then Tony was begging them to help, all pride thrown out the window. Tony's body was still twitching through the aftereffects of one too many orgasms, and he screamed when they touched him.

"Hey, shh, shh, where's the key, doll?" Bucky murmured soothingly in his ear, brushing sweaty hair off his forehead.

"Take it out! Take it out!"

Bucky couldn't see the plug, but Steve could from his angle, and he clicked the button on the end, so it would stop vibrating. Tony sagged in relief, and Steve slowly eased the toy out of his ass. Any lube on it had long since dried up, and Tony's insides were raw and chafed.

He whimpered in pain as it was carefully extracted.

"Baby, what happened? Did someone leave you here like this?" Steve asked, deeply concerned about what kind of asshole might have done this.

Tony couldn't answer. He could barely breathe between the intense and, frankly, traumatic experience, and the shame of being caught like this and knowing he'd have to admit that he did this to himself. Bucky soothed him while Steve searched around for the key, locating it in Tony's dresser and unlocking his cuffs. Tony's whole body was shaking, and he was hyperventilating, but he tried to shove them away when they tried to comfort him.

"No, please, just go away. I'm disgusting."

"Hey, hey, none of that, baby, none of that. You're beautiful, Tony," Steve murmured.

"I'm sorry, Tony, but we can't leave you alone right now, doll. You're in subdrop, baby. Do you know what that means?" Bucky asked gently.

Tony shook his head in denial. He did know what it meant, but he wasn't, and he didn't want them to see him like this.

"No, m'not, just go away."

Steve bit his lip and shared a look with Bucky.

"I'm gonna go run a bath."

Bucky nodded, his hands rubbing at Tony's wrists and arms to try and encourage proper blood flow to his limbs that had been stretched above his head for god knows how long.

"I'm sorry that this happened to you, Tony, and if it were any other time, I would respect it if you were telling me to go away, but you can't be left alone right now," Bucky reiterated apologetically.

Tony just shut his eyes, silent tears pouring down his cheeks. He was a mess, and he knew it. He didn't want them to see him like this. He just knew that they'd never look at him the same after this. They'd look at him and see the fucking mess that he really was, the mess that he tries so hard to hide from them.

Bucky still thought that someone had done this to Tony, assumed that he had probably been raped, and if Tony wasn't in subdrop, he wouldn't be touching him right now. He would back off and give him space. The problem was that this could be a dangerous situation, and if Tony was left alone, he could end up hurting himself.

"Tony, I promise we're not gonna touch you, not sexually, but we need to make sure you're okay. Steve's running a bath, and I think it would help relieve any aches, but if there's any…" Bucky paused, considering his next words carefully. "...fluids then we should call the cops—"

Tony shook his head.

"I wasn't raped. I was alone."

The words came out as a croak, his voice sore from screaming, and Bucky looked like he didn't fully believe that, but he nodded and accepted the answer anyway.

"Okay, that's good, doll, that's real good. Can we give you a bath then?"

All the intense emotions seemed to have drained out of him, and the panic was gone, his breathing more even. Now he just felt numb, empty.

He nodded, and Bucky smiled softly at him, but there was still concern in his eyes.

"Okay, do you think you can walk, or do you want me to carry you?"

Tony just shrugged, uncertain whether or not he had the strength to walk. Steve popped back in, that same concern reflected in his expression.

"It's ready."

Bucky ended up carrying Tony to the tub, and he couldn't deny that it felt good to be held close. He was set down gently in the water, and Steve kneeled down next to him, murmuring soft words and brushing his fingers through his hair. Bucky slipped off to get Tony water and food while Steve carefully washed him up, asking before he touched him and narrating what he was doing as he did it.

Tony flinched when he washed in between his legs, mostly because he was so sore down there, but Steve was quick about it, and then he was back to just running his fingers through his hair. He pulled Tony out when he started to shiver and set him up on the counter to dry him off, then he was wrapped up in a large fluffy towel and carried out to the couch.

The whole time Steve was talking softly to him, and it was comforting even though Tony couldn't really focus on what he was saying. He snuggled up into his side and whined in protest when Bucky tried to get him to hydrate and eat. They did eventually coax him into eating some crackers and drinking a glass of water, though.

"How are you feeling, baby?" Steve asked.

"Don't leave me," was all Tony said.

"Never, doll," Bucky promised.

He stayed cuddled up to them for the rest of the day, and that night he was tucked into a guest room, and they slipped into bed next to him. It was such a relief to just have them hold him close, to feel secure in their arms.

He hated explaining what happened to them the next day, reassuring them that no one had done anything to him, even though they insisted it was still a traumatic experience and an unwanted sexual encounter even if there was no one else involved. Tony just saw it as a foolish mistake and was deeply embarrassed by the whole situation.

"You know, Tony, if you ever need to be tied up, we're happy to help you with that," Steve offered. "You don't ever have to go through something like this again."

Tony shook his head.

"I don't want to be restrained," Tony said immediately, trembling at the thought.

"Shh, okay, that's okay. I'm just offering, baby. We don't have to do anything you don't want to do."

Tony whimpered and buried his head in Bucky's neck.

"Will you—Will you just hold me?"

"Always, baby."

"We're never gonna leave you alone, Tony," Steve promised, kissing his cheek. "You don't ever have to be alone again."

Tony just broke down into sobs because that's all he ever wanted, to be loved and wanted and held close by someone he trusted. Or, in this case, two someones.

I'm back in my stevebuckytony mode and I can't get this plot out of my head:

Tony and Steve love each other, however when Bucky returns they struggle, because both of them fall head over heals in love with Bucky. Steve only now realizes he had a crush on his best friend back in the days, while Tony realizes Bucky was his gay awakening. Tony heard about the cool sidekick of Captain America and was completely obsessed with the man, he just forgot about it until now.

Only a minor issue, Bucky is hard to get. He's oblivious to the two men looking at him longingly, because Steve and Tony are together and he just isn't busy with romantic relationships, he's trying to recover. So queue, a Hydra battle in a bunker where Bucky was kept. He goes absolutely, rightfully so, batshit crazy and tears apart every corner of the building. Steve and Tony carefully follow him around, Bucky doesn't need any help, and they're secretly throwing each other looks saying 'yeah, we really love this man' 'I wish I could pick him up and take him home and take care of him'.

steve and bucky each meet tony separately but they both feel that immediate attraction the second their eyes meet tony’s. they just know, at once, that they’d do anything to get to keep tony.

unknowingly, they start competing for tony’s affections. by being the polar opposite of themselves.

steve knows he’s awkward and shy when he meets someone he likes, so he thinks, “what would bucky do?” and pulls out the most ridiculous pickup line he could think of as he approaches tony in the grocery store. he has no hope of it working, but somehow bucky always manages to charm his way into someone’s heart no matter how cringeworthy the lines he uses are. so steve decides as long as he seems confident enough, maybe it would work.

tony makes fun of steve for being cheesy immediately, but he’s smiling and he still ends up giving steve his number, so maybe, steve thinks, channeling his inner bucky might make this thing with tony last.

bucky, on the other hand, knows that what he wants with tony isn’t just a one night thing. when he runs into natasha while she’s out with tony and she introduces them to each other, he thinks, “what would steve do?” and ends up spending the next two hours quietly enjoying their company and chiming in here and there, all the while sneaking glances at tony while he overthinks how to ask the guy out. he ends up stammering an awkward goodbye as they part ways, only to be brought up short when tony outright asks him whether he’s interested in seeing him again or not. bucky, relieved and disbelieving, breathes out an emphatic yes.

tony pulls out a pen and scribbles his number onto bucky’s palm and as he savours the warmth of his hand in tony’s, bucky thinks that maybe, against all odds, channeling his inner steve and not trying so hard to be super suave is how he can win tony’s heart.

after a few dates with each of them, tony starts to realize that neither of them is acting truly like themselves. sometimes they’d slip up and seem like completely different people. and tony, he notices and starts keeping track. the frustrating thing is, he likes them. he likes them so much. but he can’t fully give himself over to either of them if they can’t be real with him.

then one day just by chance, he sees steve and bucky together, hanging out and just being themselves, and the pieces start to click. he slides into the diner booth that the best friends are occupying, ready to confront them for being idiots.

but ultimately tony’s just incredibly happy knowing that this whole time the parts of them that steve and bucky had shown him, that he’d been falling for, were real. the only difference is now he can match the personality back to the face where it belongs. and maybe, just maybe, he can keep both of them.

• Natasha AlianovaRomanoff Stark is trying to keep her baby brother safe. That's proven to be a difficult task, considering Tony's habit of running head first into trouble.

• Bucky knows Nat's brother is off limits. It's why Steve hasn't made a move—they all remember Tiberus Stone and his walk of shame. But a couple of drinks in, and the loud music of his favorite club, he wakes up next to Tony Stark. He doesn't even like the kid!

• Steve knows he's a no good, no name "crook". Doesn't help that Nat's dangerously protective. Doesn't help he's the leader of a masked vigilante group. Yet he can't stop loving Tony. Can't stop meeting him at their favorite café for late night snacks and caffeine fueled talks.

• The game is over. Nat has caught James in Tony's bed and is dead set on killing him. But wait! "We're not just fooling around, Nat. We're together!" Tony saves the day at the last moment. So of course, they have to fake date now.

• Stevie's heartbroken, Bucky's getting shovel talks left and right, and there's someone out there hunting the young Stark heir. Worse, he thinks he might be actually liking the guy he's fake dating to stay alive.

WIP Wednesday

Alright, I finally have a good section of this Stuckony Medieval Knights AU that's perfect for pulling a snippet from! This is part of my @fandomtrumpshate fill for @massivespacewren which I'm aiming to have fully posted to Ao3 by the end of November. Anyway, enjoy!

"I’ve missed your counsel, old friend.”

Obadiah flags down a passing servant to refill his goblet with mead. “It seemed to me you managed to bring the war to a close just fine without me, Tony.”

“Careful now, you almost sound bitter about it,” Tony says with a laugh. “This can only be good for us- for the kingdom!”

“Bitter? Not at all, not at all. Peacetime is always a good thing.”

“Certainly. The fewer men I can send to a battlefield to die every year, the better.”

“Of course, Tony. Now, I do wonder what you’re planning on doing going forward with…”

Tony tunes him out. He’s much too caught up in the swell of the music and the slight buzz from the mead to bother paying attention to politics and finances– and really, who could blame him? His gaze drifts over Obie’s shoulder and quickly lands on the most radiantly beautiful stranger he’s ever seen.

The man’s handsome face is framed by soft locks of golden hair, and his eyes are bluer than a winter morning sky. Even from so far away, Tony can tell he towers over most of the guests. He’s looking around the room with furrowed brows, clearly searching for someone, and Tony can’t help but picture smoothing out the ridges with his fingertips.

The stranger must catch sight of who he’s looking for because his expression brightens as he begins to cross to the other side of the room. Tony tracks his eyeline until he lands on another unfairly beautiful man standing by one of the many tables of food. He’s just as tall as the first stranger, though his hair is darker and falls in waves down to his shoulders. His eyes are also a stunning shade of blue, which Tony can see clearly… given that he’s looking right at him.

The first man steps up behind the other and puts an arm around his shoulders, speaking quietly to him.
