The more I think about it the more I'm confused about Snape's so called "redemption arc".
We don't know much about his years at Hogwarts outside of the time James hanged him from his underwear and he called Lily a Mudblood, but we know that:
1. He had a disdain for Muggles ever since he was born or at least ever since he was 10 y/o bc that's when he meets Lily and Petunia and treats the latter like garbage.
2. He was friends with Mulciber and Avery- known death eaters, especially Mulciber who we know was particularly close with Baldy due to the time he came to Hogsmede with him for his job interview with dummydore.
From that we can assume that he was a witness and a participant in A Lot of hate crimes against Muggle Borns ever since he was a minor. One of which was the time Mary was the victim.
3. We know HE invented the spell James used to hang him from his panties, which must mean that he used it against others, probably muggle borns, and his DE friends must've used it as well.
4. We know he invented the spell Sectumsempra to use against his enemies?? (Sorry it's been a while since I read the books I don't remember the exact quote.) and his enemies are almost certainly the Marauders. Also maybe his dad but that's a discussion for another day.
5. We know he was one of Baldy's dearest death eaters, even tho he was a Half-Blood with no status and no connections, which means he definitely did a lot of horrific things to Muggles and Muggle borns and the members of the Order of Phoenix.
6. We know he heard Trelawney's prophesy after eavesdropping in a bar, and immediately ran to Baldy with it. He knew that by telling Baldy about the prophecy an innocent baby will be killed, and he didn't give a shit. I cannot stress enough how much that information in vital for his character. Taking a baby's life so that Baldy might give him a sit closer to him by the table. And nothing would've happened to him if he shut his mouth and didn't go to Baldy. He didn't have his life or even his status\loyalty on the line. He just sacrificed this anonymous innocent baby for kicks and giggles.
7. The only point in which he cared about his actions was when Lily's life was on the line. This wanker really didn't care that he just gave Baldy (a man who made it his life' mission to kill Lily and the likes of her) a reason to kill Lily's son and husband, who were practically her only source of joy while she fought against his people in the war. He just wanted the girl he slurred and stalked and mistreated in high-school to live with all her friends and family dead. And thought he was doing something good. I don't even know how to begin to describe how fucked up that is.
8. He went to Dummydore and asked him to save her. After he got her, her husband and her kid to be under an even worse constant death threat than they were before because of Lily's blood status and their participant in the order. And after he spent the last 3-4 years killing Lily’s friends and the people who share her blood status.
9. That was also the point in which he offered himself to be a double spy right?? Again real heroic of him to risk his life after all the shit he did because he was in love with a girl whose life he ruined. He never cared about all the shit he did and all the people he murdered and he never actually wanted to help innocent people or do good by the world or even by Lily.
10. After Baldy died for the first time and the first war ended, Harry had nobody left, and Dummydore put him with Petunia and Vernon. Snape knew better than anyone else what the Dursleys will do to Harry. He knew everything, and he didn't do shit. Not only did he not do shit, but he also made things worse for Harry by bullying and harassing him since the moment he stepped foot in the castle.
11. Extending on the last point- Snape bullied, harassed, abused, mistreated and discriminated against students at Hogwarts ever since he started teaching there, I'm not gonna start elaborating on all the times he did those things because that would take a different essay of similar length.
12. Yeah I don't really know what to add here? That's pretty much it I think.
So to conclude: am I really expected to forgive him because he loved Lily and had a hard time with James when they were 16 and he spied for Dummydore for a bit?? Being a looser in middle school and then becoming a double spy doesn’t make up for… anything. Especially since he never stopped being a terrible person.

"never did see one without the other, did you?"
SOBBING.
Sirius and James are just so idk how to explain it?? I can't BELIEVE Sirius went to Prison because he was framed for killing his BEST FRIEND. HIS SAVIOUR. Literally his platonic soul mate. I can't believe so many people knew them and didn't even bat an eye when he was put in Azkaban.
The fact that people were just like "How could he?" and then moved on with their lives, while Remus was distraught at losing ALL of his best friends in one single night.
HE FOUND HIS BEST FRIEND DEAD. I'm sorry but if I found my best friend dead in her house I'd die, HOW TRAUMATISING IS THAT?? Imagine going to check up on them and finding their house in pieces, and then finding them dead. His best friend. His family. HIS BEST FRIENDS WIFE. THEIR SON??? THEIR ONE YEAR OLD SON.
You know what's worse?
They probably had Sirius' Birthday all planned out. James and Lily were murdered on the 31st of October, 3 days before Sirius' Birthday on the 3rd of November. They would most likely all have bought and wrapped present, perhaps even booked a table at a restaurant or maybe concert tickets or whatever.
But they never went. Never got to do anything. Sirius spent his 22nd birthday locked up in Azkaban while James was dead and Remus was distraught and Peter was hiding.
Harry was taken away and treated like shit. James and Lily's one year old, ONE YEAR OLD, was left orphaned, with no idea about his parents or his parents friends. He could have had a life with Sirius, but that was taken away from him.
Imagine meeting a wanted Murderer, and he goes on to tell you that he loved your father and that he saved him. Saved him from years of torture and abuse in his own household and let him stay somewhere safe. And then got FRAMED by their other best mate for his MURDER which he spent 12 YEARS in prison for.
Even when Harry did move in with Sirius during his fifth year, he didn't have very long with his father's best friend either.
Sirius died protecting the last piece of James he still had. After all of those years, Sirius still loved James, loved him so much that he died to protect his son.
"Nice one, James!"
HE DIED THINKING OF HIS BEST FRIEND. HE WAS THINKING OF JAMES IN HIS LAST MOMENTS ON EARTH. Not Harry, not himself, not Remus. JAMES.
Idc if someone thinks "It's so wrong that Sirius only saw James in Harry, and Harry only saw James in Sirius"
Okay, and? That was all they had left. Sirius was the closest thing to his dad, let the poor boy have that small piece of his life. And Sirius loved James. He said himself that he would rather have died than betray James.
And he would have too. If Sirius had been there when Peter and Voldy showed up, he would have told James and Lily to run and sacrificed himself so they could live a life full of love and raise their son.
James was Sirius' only family. Sirius had nothing without him. NOTHING. "Oh but what about Remus?" I love Remus, don't get me wrong, but Remus would never be able to live up to what James was for him. That boy saved him.
I hate it when people come after James. How could you say he was a horrible person when he literally took Sirius in. HE SAVED HIM.
And I just realised that Sirius didn't get to go to James' funeral. He never said goodbye.
Ladies and Gentlemen and everyone else, thank you and good night
(it's not a good night and never will be a good night because James died and Sirius was locked up for it. HIS BEST FRIEND.)

Tw: Opinions
I’ve officially came out as a babygirl Sirius hater.
How do you see bad ass Sirius who rides motorbikes, tall and scary af Sirius, Sirius who tormented Snape bc he could (as he should) just for you to reduce him to a self insert bbg twink version who fawns after Remus like some whiny teenager? Sirius IS the Casanova, not Remus. Did we read about the same Sirius or are we just making him an OC now? Bring back menace Sirius 2023.
(Of course you can write Sirius however you want in ur ff AU but as a fandom let’s not indulge. We need more morally grey Sirius because he WAS morally grey. Like this bbgfication of every single character in the fandom is boring and repetitive. Sirius wasn’t a good person and that’s ok. Sirius wasn’t a literal girl and that’s ok. Remus was a gentle shy boy and that’s ok. What they’re not is Alpha brute dominant Remus & smol fem Sirius.)
!!Before you all say “the fandom is mostly made up anyway” Sirius has enough canon dialogues and information for us to know his personality✋🏼 diff story if you’re talking about evan, pandora and etc. but sirius, remus, and snape? Nah.

The only reason I still comment Stan Bambi on snape edits is because of the replies I get from snape stans, it’s so funny. I highly suggest doing it

I need to say this out loud: When the Marauders era fans are talking about these characters, we're not talking about the same characters that Joanne wrote and play a part in the canon books. They have the same names, the same background, and most likely the same world-building laws, but they. are. not. the. same.
Harry's dad, James Potter was a true Gryffindor, in the sense that he was an impulsive and reckless mf that joined the war as soon as was 17 and fought against those who he considered evil without hesitation until the day he died. He was especially wicked towards Snape because he and Sirius had too much of a fragile masculinity to resolve conflicts the civilized way and it took a life-or-death situation for him to realize "Ah this might be a little fucked up, I should stop this" And his and Lily's relationship is written in a way that is so old-fashioned considering that she decided to date him after years of rejection which is a toxic portrayal for what flirting should be. He was also reckless as a father, not only because he put the baby on a flying broom before he learnt how to walk, but because in the first place, he and Lily decided to have a child in the middle of a war and then keep fighting on it knowing their child might be endangered.
Now, James Fleamont Potter, the character I read in fanfiction? Sure he is still faulty; he's still impulsive most of the time, but he's a good judge of character and he regrets it when he does messes up. He put everyone before himself, he only fights back when cornered, and he is a feminist that respects when a girl draws the line and doesn't stop trying to get what he wants because when he loves he does so wholeheartedly, but he takes new approaches, he listens, he comforts, he charms (pun not intended) He an ally, and a good friend that gives out everything he has in order to make others feel safe. He lives by the line "We've all got both light and dark inside us" and isn't afraid to look past different natures or ideologies to find that light in people. He struts, not because he thinks himself better than everyone, but because he always walks like no one's watching. James Fleamont Potter is the sun. We don't say that lightly.
And I could go on and on about every single character going from this to the babygirlfication of Barty Crouch Jr, but I don't think that's necessary to prove my point. We took these characters and made them our own because we are tired of listening to the author dismiss them as flat, unimportant background data and disposable plot devices on the bigger most important story. We stole the idea and threw it into the public domain and wrote amazing stories with it. But those stories don't fit into the same universe as the original books, they're adaptations, some pretty distant adaptations if you will.
Enjoy whatever it's out there, but don't get confused, these stories are not an extension to the ones on paper, but sequels to the ones in our hearts.
