On unhealthy relationship dynamics

A little while ago, I stumbled across a post discussing Aziraphale's character on a meta level, and without knowing the content, I was completely unprepared when one single sentence pushed me from 'uncomfortable but doable' into 'triggered and panicking'. The post itself was triggering from start to finish, but that phrase stood out to me.

Why am I telling you this?

After calming down and thinking about it for a few hours, I realised what exactly my brain had reacted to—victim blaming rhetoric repackaged to fit Aziraphale and Crowley's situation. Victim blaming is, to provide a short summary, the act of putting blame for mistreatment on the victim instead of the perpetrator. It's a concept often used in r/pe discussions, but it can be applied to any abusive or non-abusive situation as long as a power imbalance is created, meaning you have at least one person harming another in whatever shape or form.

If you broaden the definition, you can apply it to more situations, including—and this is where we reach the actual topic—their relationship and the Final Fifteen (F15).

That is exactly what some people have been doing—putting all the blame on Crowley and absolving Aziraphale of any and all responsibility as if it were his fault that Aziraphale broke his heart

Before anyone runs to the comments, let me clarify what I assume will be the FAQ.

no, I do not think Aziraphale is abusive

I do not think that their relationship is abusive either

no, I do not hate Aziraphale

yes, I know what I am talking about

everything I will talk about is largely based on what we as the audience actually see and know, combined with interpretations of the intentional subtext Neil wrote into the show.

I have been actively in this fandom since the second season was released, and I have seen a lot of (hopefully accidental) ableist & generally insensitive takes. These are the ones I see the most and what I personally consider to be important topics of discussion, but the same logic I will be applying to these can be applied to many, many more situations.

Since my meta posts get very long very quickly, I will be posting them in parts and always linking back to the others, plus this one as the masterpost.

Part 1—Nice Is A Four Letter Word

The basic pattern is this:

Aziraphale refers to Crowley with a 'nice' term -> Crowley gets upset and tells him to stop -> Aziraphale hears him but continues anyway.

There are reasons behind Crowley's rejection, and I will go into detail, but I want to make one thing very clear: It does not matter why Crowley asked him to stop. He set a boundary, and Aziraphale repeatedly and intentionally overstepped it; this causes understandable anger and frustration.

Crowley does not owe Aziraphale an explanation, just like you would not owe someone an explanation when you don't want to be called x-term. Mutual respect requires the acceptance of personal boundaries like that, and by breaking them over and over again, Aziraphale tells Crowley that his own wants are more important than Crowley's needs.

In the 1827 Edinburgh flashback, we see the consequences of Crowley doing good/being called good (which are usually connected, meaning if they notice someone is calling Crowley good, he most likely did something to cause that) firsthand, and so does Aziraphale. He gets dragged down to hell and tortured for up to thirty years.

Even before that, Crowley expresses numerous times how hell punishes good deeds, and they are 'always listening' in on him. You would assume that Aziraphale would stop to keep him safe—and yet he doesn't because he cannot accept the reality of Crowley's situation and refuses to listen to him.

On top of that, Aziraphale only ever "praises" Crowley when he does something he personally sees as praiseworthy, aka something good/kind/nice/angelic/etc. but never when it is something that CROWLEY would like to be praised for, or at the very least acknowledged. We see it in season 2 over and over and over again: Aziraphale cares for no one's thoughts or plans except his own and has no interest in even hearing Crowley out.

Aziraphale calling him nice is not a sweet little gesture, it is an intentional overstepping of a boundary Crowley has been trying to enforce for centuries, and it reinforces the dichotomy of good angels/bad demons, with angelic existence being the ultimate goal. At the very least, it's disrespectful towards Crowley, and at worst, it is actively keeping Crowley in a trauma response, tugging on his leash whenever he tries to explain reality to Aziraphale.

To have a healthy relationship, Aziraphale needs to stop.

ALRIGHT, no more messing around I suppose.

Over the last twelve months my close friend @kimberlyeab and myself have been the targets of sustained harassment by a series of "anti-ship" accounts, that may or may not be the same person, that I am not going to name up here because I do not want to give them any more traffic than necessary. This is over some of the content we make, 18+ fiction revolving around Undertale and Deltarune, and sometimes involving dark kinks. I'm going to ask you to put aside whether you think this is immoral for the moment.

Under the break below is what I wrote a few hours ago. Things have since escalated. Both myself and Kim have been targeted by email bombs on our business emails, services/bots that spam your email address with garbage signups, rendering your email address completely unusable. At worst, this can overwhelm your email service so much that your account is unable to process new emails and is eventually disabled by the provider. I'm still getting bursts of activity after over 200 emails, so I'm not sure if it's dying down, or if it's so backlogged that this is what's happening.

This is literally a crime, by the way. It's classified as cyber abuse.

On top of this, whoever has done this has access to personal information. A full legal name, first and last, was used in several of the signups, so they are either implicitly threatening to doxx us, or simply flexing that they could. Likewise a crime.

Additionally, this seems well coordinated, but there are no suspicious recent results for us in The Usual Places. This makes me believe this person is probably using some foul back-alley site like KF to organize this. I don't think the legal name in question could have been acquired by one person, it's extremely difficult to trace back.

tl;dr: whoever is doing this knows their way around the internet and is actively dangerous, they are severely impeding our lives and have the potential to become incredibly, incredibly dangerous.

Why am I posting this? Not really to get those accounts in trouble (although you should absolutely stay the hell away from them, and severely scrutinize anything they leave a mark on). I don't think they'll be punished, nor would it help since they constantly block evade, and at this point I don't think this recent online abuse crap is actually them, just someone attaching themself to their crusade. Though I'm not sure.

What I want to illustrate is how these kind of callout posts feed into targeted harassment of minorities. This is just another reason why things that make you uncomfortable should be dealt with by curating your experience using tags and blacklists and blocks, rather than trying to assign moral value to what people make. If my content makes you that uncomfortable I *actively encourage* you to block me.

It doesn't matter whether you personally dislike minorities or not, or whether you're subconsciously targeting them, or whatever. Someone else who does will latch on. That person who writes nothing but callout posts, yet they're always for small trans creators who make some 'icky stuff' and never for big-name bigots who parade their bigotry out in the open; is it because they're a sock puppet of an overt reactionary, or just because they want to feel some control over their life so they subconsciously focus on vulnerable people?

Simple: you can't know.

These people are the dangerous ones. Not people who just make content, properly tag it, and mind their own business. But these people, obsessed with ruining other people, with finding 'evil' in the world so that they can purge it? You can find their name below if you really want, and literally their entire blog is just constant callouts, broadcasting people doing callouts, trying to network with other people who do callouts. This is why these people were originally called 'antifans', their entire fandom presence is centered around tearing other people to shreds.

Do your due diligence and fact-check, before you broadcast that someone in your fandom did something awful. Make sure they actually hurt someone. I know mega-bastards will use 'you can't prove it' as an excuse, but actually analyze it a bit. It's almost always painfully obvious, I know, I spent years doing antifascism. And more than anything else, neither entertain, nor broadcast, nor embolden the kind of people who dedicate their entire existences on the internet to lateral abuse. Not just these particular ones, but ANYONE who dedicates their life to this online torch-waving garbage over fictional content. Whether they're a reactionary or just projecting trauma, whether they actually hate x y or z minority or they just happen to always go for the most vulnerable people, whether the person they're targeting makes content that makes you feel very icky and gross or not, these self-ordained Crusaders are consistently, unquestionably, dangerous.

That's one page out of 4. Also some of them have between 10 and 80 updates in the one email from the same address. There's about 300 emails all up. And there's zero reason they can't do this again.

Anyway. The accounts in question are @snowcollecter/@brieffamilycat/@krispy-chicken-shipping/@bonniehbunny. First two are definitely them, I highly suspect the latter two are their main, or at the very least someone who constantly signal boosts them. We have endured over 12 months of:

calling for brigades against us, and at least 4 other people

block dodging to constantly screenshot and reference our posts

literal libel by accusing us of grooming a child despite screenshots, as well as both statements and direct requests to stop by both the supposed groomed child and their actual friends who witnessed all interactions we had

spamming anon asks to literally every single person that they can find who we ever interact with

using tiktok cen)sor)ship nonsense to get past peoples' blacklists and force this stuff in front of them

using no less than 3 confirmed alts with about 5 more extremely suspicious accounts in attempts to artificially broadcast themself and again evade blocks (when the original account itself is transparently an alt too)

joining multiple random discords to try to shove this stuff in peoples' faces

now spamming Kim's business email at signup services

probably being behind the attempts to doxx and raid us last year on a certain hate-monger website, since the signup spam demonstrates they're cool with bog standard channer troll tactics

They also pretty tellingly refused to even talk to this minor we supposedly groomed, who attempted to tell them personally that we hadn't done the shit they claim we did. You'd think someone who is this caught up about the safety of minors in fandom spaces would jump at the chance to help this kid, to tell them not to talk to us and get them away from us, to convince them to stay away? No, they said 'I don't talk to minors' (this is demonstrably untrue: their discord accounts are in many all-ages spaces) and immediately blocked them.

Of course. Because this was never about the safety of minors. Flip a coin; if it's heads, they're a far-right sock puppet who just knows they can use the 'think of the children' angle to drive a wedge into queer communities. If it's tails, they're just a routine runt who's projecting their lack of ability to do anything about the ACTUAL assholes of this world onto other queer people, wailing and flailing and doing anything they can to have some influence despite getting 3 notes on almost everything they ever post. Hence the anon asks, and Discord spam, and blacklist/block evading. If they can't have a platform - because anyone who looks at their garbage for more than a month at most sees how absolutely deranged they are - they'll just force people to see it.

Do they ever attack actual transphobes, which this fandom is not at all short on? Well, sort of! They did one or two callout posts about a TERF who used to run in these spaces... But didn't say anything about the TERF shit. Just the porn. The porn constantly put behind age confirmations and thorough tags/content warnings. This person spouted generic 'all-powerful trans lobby' 'social contagion' 'please look at this study about desistance I found on a hard-right website' bullshit, but no, it was them drawing aged-up highschoolers (REMINDER: NOT EVEN CANONICALLY UNDERAGE, JUST VAGUE HIGHSCHOOLERS, *AND* THEY WERE EXPLICITLY OLDER IN THEIR CONTENT!) that was apparently the greater evil.

I'm not even really sharing this to call them specifically out or draw attention to them. Regardless of whether they're a chud in a mask or just someone who severely, *severely* needs psychological help about their obsession, they're not going to stop. They've made that plainly obvious. At this point I've basically just accepted I'm going to have this deranged stalker until I leave the fandom, which I don't plan to do anytime soon so buckle up I guess.

No, I just want people to see what these people are like. How they ignore the people they claim are victims. How they employ the same tactics as doxxing websites and old channer trolls, or even outright enlist them. How they only EVER put sustained effort into taking down queer people with small platforms because going after the in-plain-sight actual bigots and scumbags would just be too much effort, a reflection of how this is about feeling righteous and powerful, not actually making the world better. They create nothing, they contribute nothing, they bring nothing but arguing and drama and isolation to the spaces they inhabit.

These kind of people are blights on the fandoms they cling to. And any time you act like their *miserable* Hays Code, Jack Thompson With A Rainbow Flag, no kink at pride, BDSM is abuse, drag queens are indecent, cover those ankles *garbage* warrants any notice at all, you deal another blow to the fandom you are in, because nobody wants to be around these little goddamn nightmares. edit: I know how red-flag any grooming allegations are, if you want the full story to that I already addressed it here. tl;dr, no, we did not let a child look at our porn let alone show it to them, we in fact stopped them from doing so. We are not in some secret private 18+ server with them, we actively ensured they STOPPED making themself unsafe, and have strained extremely, extremely hard to keep our very limited interactions with them transparent, scrutinizable, and appropriate. The only reason we even stuck around was because it became rapidly apparent they were in an abusive living situation which we occasionally gave them advice to manage, eg helping them look up boarding options, unlike the torch-waving dipshits who did NOTHING to reach out to them or help them in any way. They're doing much better, both in their home life and in terms of not following or privately palling around with 18+ creators anymore, thanks to us, and at the expense of both our mental health and reputations. You're fucken' welcome.

thank you so much for your analysis on Mew - it's so interesting! I feel like there's so much hate towards him right now (and I don't really get why? The SandRay situation obviously isn't his fault?) but he's such an interesting character to me, flaws and all.

You're also the only person I've seen talk about his potential demisexuality, and I was wondering if you could expand on that? There are a lot of comments out there saying that Mew has a really unhealthy attitude to sex because he doesn't seem to want to have it - and spends the first few episodes actively avoiding it. I'm not disagreeing with that perspective entirely, but what's wrong with just not wanting to have sex? I'm asexual so I may be missing something in this fandom discourse - is it Mew's desire for control that's unhealthy, or is the argument that a healthy relationship must include sex? I was so pleased to see your comment about demisexuality, because honestly that's what his whole character screams to me. (I could also be reading into it way too much, we don't get a lot of ace/demi rep!)

You're welcome Anon! I'm glad you found the analysis on Mew interesting. I agree, there's so much hate towards Mew right now and I think it is due to several reasons: a) Mew negatively affects SandRay's development. b) Mew is a difficult character to read and that can make certain people uncomfortable. c) People don't like the actor and resent the fact that he's a central character in the series.

The topic you brought up is extremely interesting and I don't see enough people talking about it, so... Sure, let's talk about Mew's possible sexual orientation! 🤗

Since EP1 it has been theorized about Mew being demisexual due to the following moment:

Demisexuality is a sexual orientation where individuals typically experience sexual attraction only after forming a strong emotional connection or bond with someone. Unlike many other sexual orientations, demisexual individuals may not feel immediate or purely physical attraction to others and often require a deeper emotional connection to develop sexual desire.

Demisexuality is a sexual orientation that is on the spectrum of asexuality. What does it mean that asexuality is a spectrum?

“asexuality as a spectrum” means that asexuality it's not a monolithic sexual orientation (not a single, uniform category that encompasses all people who identify as asexual) and that it encompasses a variety of experiences and degrees of sexual attraction. Asexual people may experience their orientation differently, and that's why we talk about a spectrum. Many asexual people may experience no sexual attraction and others may experience sexual attraction in very specific circumstances. However, this is only one aspect of many that makes asexuality a spectrum.

At the same time, asexuality is a sexual orientation within the asexual spectrum.

Mind you, lack of sexual attraction should not be confused with lack of romantic attraction. A person can be hetero-romantic, bi-romantic, homo-romantic, and so on.

Why do I explain all this? First, in the case that someone who's not very informed is reading. Second, because I think Mew is asexual and not demisexual. It's debatable, what's not debatable is that Mew's sexual orientation is part of the asexual spectrum. However, I think the theory that Mew is demisexual is no longer in line with what Mew has shown in recent episodes. Despite having accepted his feelings for Top and forming an emotional bond, Mew has no sexual attraction for Top. This is also consistent with the fact that Mew is still discovering his sexuality and, at first, he might have thought that after getting to know Top he would experience sexual attraction. In fact, many asexual people used to think at first they were demisexual (because at first you don't want to rule out the idea of possible future sexual attraction).

So, let's get things straight:

Mew isn't sexually attracted to Top. Despite that, like many asexual people, he may consider someone attractive. In this case, he considers Top attractive and, at the same time, he actively seeks a romantic relationship with him (once again, romantic attraction isn't related to sexual attraction). He isn't particularly interested in having or perusing sex. He never manifests enthusiasm, desire or strong emotional reactions (deep desire, passion, excitement, among other) towards the sexual act itself. In the shower scene he tells Top that their sexual encounter was "okay" and, during their first time, Mew simply lies down and lets himself be pleased (in case anyone is wondering, yes, asexual people can feel physical pleasure because they're still people and physical pleasure is a natural response of the body to stimuli).

Actually, Mew is completely fine being a virgin. Even so, he's not sex repulsed so he's fine with the idea of having sex. Although he doesn't have a terrible time doing it, he certainly doesn't enjoy it. And, like many asexual people, he feels pressured to have sex. However, it's important to note that Mew didn't have sex against his will. In fact, like many asexual people who decide to have sex for different reasons, Mew had sex with Top because he considered it important when it came to forming an intimate relationship.

Based on all this information we can say that, although someone's sexual orientation is something very particular that everyone experiences and defines internally (therefore it's difficult to know with certainty someone's sexual orientation), we can say that Mew is a homo-romantic asexual person. This means that Mew doesn't feel sexual attraction but does feel romantic attraction to people of the same gender. In turn, his attitude towards sex is neutral (he neither takes a sex-favorable stance nor rejects the idea of having sex).

Regarding your question about control or sex as something inherent in relationships, I don't think either of these two desires is unhealthy. Actually, we all want to have some degree of control in our lives, otherwise we would live in a constant state of anxiety and panic. Control is unhealthy when it becomes a necessity and an obsession. Control also becomes unhealthy when someone tries to maintain control through questionable attitudes that affect others negatively. I also don't think the idea of not wanting to have sex is unhealthy. Sex isn't a prerequisite for romantic relationships (in fact, there are countless healthy romantic relationships that don't include sex), our degree of sexual attraction doesn't define us. In terms of sexual health, a healthy and positive relationship with one's sexuality involves being able to identify one's own limits and respect them. I believe that the thought of “avoiding sex or not wanting to have sex” as unhealthy is related to the pathologization of asexuality. However, it's of utmost importance to remember that asexuality is not a problem to be solved.

I am sorry to dwell on so much Anon but I consider this topic extremely significant and valuable to discuss. Of course, feel free to disagree with me. I hope I answered your questions!

I've received a lot of asks like this one so I wanna respond and clarify

I actually love getting asks and even anon asks. I prefer having anon on bc yk big boy blog and all that but also so that people can send me their silliest things.

I really do truly genuinely enjoy having this blog and especially interacting w it. I've made a lot of friends recently and it's just fun to be able to talk ab the cringe failgame from a decade ago. Both for myself and in front of such a large audience.

Ever since I became aware I'm literally in the top 10 on skyrim blogs (at #9 but still) some of my anons started making a lot more sense. The power of anonymity makes people braver, which is good for things like funny headcanons and such.

I don't really like having to turn anon off and god I hope I don't have to shut asks off entirely. Fortunately once I turned anon off my inbox became a lot more peaceful. Funny that.

If I were to compare the two I'm sure I've gotten much more love than hate, but hate is much louder than love. And I know me giving it attention doesn't help much of anything but on the other hand people can and do throw around serious words about an unserious video game on unserious posts from an unserious person.

Even if I ignored all of it, just having to see it can feel so draining. And it isn't just in my inbox. It's also in the tags. I've repeatedly tried to express how deeply uncomfortable I am, AS A JEWISH PERSON OF COLOR, with people throwing words like racist and genocide around all willy nilly over video game characters.

It trivializes those real world issues, that have affected me, my ancestors, and people like me, down to fucking. Skyrim discourse. It's extremely frustrating. And from what I can see I don't think anyone is doing it maliciously or to get a rise out of me. But I think the sheer weight of those words has gotten lost.

And not to pull another race card, but this is especially upsetting from white people. I'm not thrilled about the fact white people keep talking over me and other people of color in the fandom about what is and isn't racist.

But I do also see the love. I see the cats in my inbox and the lovely asks and people writing paragraphs to defend me (when tbh I haven't done anything wrong anyways but. Eh.) and it's genuinely very touching and sweet and even if I don't reply to it (there's a lot to reply to!) I do see it and I appreciate it.

And for the poll, I fully plan on seeing it through. Round 2 closes tomorrow after which I'll set up round 3/the semi finals and then we go to the championship!

I started this poll, also this blog, for fun. I want people to have fun. I want to have fun. And most of the time I do have fun! But with the uptick in activity that brings *gestures vaguely* what it does.

Tumblr is one of those very few websites with true anonymity. This and reddit are the only ones I can think of where it's not expected to have your name, face, or other info about you anywhere. Which is a rare blessing on today's internet but it makes people very audacious about what they can and can't say to me.

I think because of that anonymity it's easy to forget I'm a human person. I very much doubt some of things I've had said to me in the last 48 hours would still be said if it was face to face. I truly don't think someone would look me in the eye and tell me to kill myself over skyrim bullshit.

And the funny part of that is if they did, I'd probably laugh in real life. For the sheer ridiculousness of the statement. "Hey. You. End your life because of video game drama" spoken to me at the local Target would be funny to me. But with the anonymity it feels just as hurtful as I'm sure it's supposed to be.

Thanks for letting me ramble and such. I'm not really even sure what I'm trying to say with all this. Other than I'm human, you're human, we're all humans, and we'd do well to remember that. Please just be nice to each other..

1. Who is the most affectionate?

I think HL would be the king of PDA in this pairing. However, I think Billy showers him with more physical affection behind closed doors.

2. Big spoon/Little spoon?

Billy’s taller and HL has much higher need to be enveloped so this is not even a question.

3. Most common argument?

Whether Billy should take Compound V, and as a related topic, whether being a supe makes you intrinsically suck as a person.

4. Favorite non-sexual activity?

I’d like to think they’d both enjoy the outdoors, albeit perhaps in different styles. I would love to read the fic where they go on a roadtrip to camp in some national park out west, and Billy’s all into roughing it in a tiny cold tent, meanwhile HL is having none of that, this is going to be a glamping trip if he can help it. Billy’s annoyed HL decides not to change out of his suit even in the woods, and complains that using heat vision to start a campfire is cheating. HL’s annoyed that Billy thinks swimming in a lake counts as taking a shower, and turns up his nose at drinking beer— it’s illegal to bring alcohol into a national park anyway!

5. Who is most likely to carry the other?

While it’s easier for HL, I can’t see Billy being into it. If HL wants to bring Billy into the air, he’s going to have to do it with an arm around the waist. I think HL wouldn’t mind being princesscarried to bed, otoh.

6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

HL loves Billy’s personality, specifically his honesty, even if it comes with blunt rudeness, and his weird lack of fear, even if it’s due to some malfunction of his self-preservation instinct. Billy will admit to loving how HL feels and sounds when they’re fucking. He won’t admit that he actually loves the emotional neediness.

7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

Billy has an existential crisis for a week or two. HL is unruffled, he’s been kind of taken with Billy since they met at Madelyn’s house, and doesn’t really have a problem admitting it.

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

HL still likes to say ‘William’ for the mouthfeel and because it sounds sarcastic. ‘Billy’ most of the time. He’ll try ‘babe’ and even ‘honey’ once in a while, usually to vehement objection. As for Billy, I’m sure in bed it’s a lot of ‘cunt’ and ‘little bitch’, interspersed with occasional ‘my good boy’, but outside the bedroom, I think he keeps on calling him Homelander. Sorry, rest of fandom, I can’t get behind Billy calling him John, it makes me deeply uncomfortable for some reason.

9. Who worries the most?

HL! He worries over himself, over Ryan, over Billy, over public opinion. And being around HL, Billy worries even less, because he’s a contrarian.

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

Billy because he’s used to integrating all sorts of random details about HL into his memory repository over the years. Also, it’s always a glass of milk, even at Asian places that don’t fucking have it, so it’s memorably annoying.

11. Who tops?

I think they might switch off occasionally, but ultimately HL likes feeling wanted and occasionally just wants to be a pillow princess, and Butcher likes feeling in control of a situation, so Butcher topping is their preference.

12. Who initiates kisses?

I think Butcher might feel bolder that way.

13. Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

I think HL would be all about that. He might even take off his gloves for it occasionally (!)

14. Who kisses the hardest?

I think they are both into rough sex. But if Butcher is Compound V-less, it has to be Butcher. HL’s not going to risk being aggressive with someone who might break.

15. Who wakes up first?

Ryan is really happy he doesn’t have to be in the middle of an ongoing feud.

[Edit: the verdict is in, and yes it’s Billy, and yes his singing is pretty godawful]

Billy continues fighting the good fight against corrupt supes and Vought. HL continues to work for Vought and mostly do their bidding unless Billy makes fun of him for it. Hopefully he’s doing fewer evil sidegigs as a concession to Billy, but who knows.

Since many have approached me asking what's happening ajsjkskd I want to give few clarification on my post specifically.

What I mentioned is just my own opinion. It's not meant to blame anyone, like I said it's how I feel. I'm not hurt by the fandom at the moment. I kind of switched to caring about other things and there's a lot happening irl right now. If you want to ask please go to people who made posts about leaving, as it's their feelings that matter.

I am not targeting anyone specifically, a lot of things mentioned has happened back in 2015 and the fact that same or similar things are happening now just means that nothing has changed. Which is dumb, tbh. 🙃

While I support my friends, please stop for a bit and breath. You've been getting very angry lately and yall know what I'm talking about. Remember that friend who quit? Well the deal was that even if they weren't extremely popular, they still got love. Idk how to explain this. It's completely valid to feel neglected, to compare yourself and feel like you're not good enough. I know this first hand. I've cried daily because of my art being shit. I've seen people do "best fandom artists" lists and so on. I know it's hard to deal with, I do. But I've returned and I kept meeting people who were happy about Coppy being active. So as much as I feel like it's wrong that here there's always "top", "middle" and "low" popularity blogs, in my opinion there are also things we notice less because of the hierarchy - like our own fans.

That being said I still think and will always think that some things are damaging and I've made a list on one server of what we can stop doing in my opinion to make people feel more welcome. Which I guess I might post here when I'll get back there, cause I left it 🙃

I personally don't know why many are uncomfortable with new members from TikTok, but I assume that maybe since new members joined old issues resurfaced, since said members were unfamiliar with what potentially could be okay or not to do.

I've been told that people are getting anon hate. Just stop? Talk normally instead. Wtf, honesly. Anon hate is for pussies. I've been called a blunt person numerous times, cause I just say a lot of things straight to the face. Idk why are you so scared of that. It's not always pleasant, but at least it's honest.

I also feel like we all need to talk more. We don't express our feelings till it gets to the boiling point which is bad. Can't we just all be more open, idk?

I've learnt due to past experiences that many people are simply not understandading each other, like as if speaking a different language? Idk. We are also so stressed and on edge somehow, I thought that it's just me, but many seem to be feeling similarly.

4 things to include in your content notes/summary to make your explicit gender neutral reader insert fic more accessible to trans readers

As a trans person, I've found it difficult to interact with reader-insert fic because the intimacy of 2nd person POV ("you" pronouns) means my gender dysphoria is much more easily triggered than if a third person POV is used. This isn't anyone's fault; my dysphoria is not your responsibility to manage. However, if you want to take steps to make your trans readers more comfortable, I put together a little list of suggestions that can make a major difference.

In the past, I've made frustrated posts about being triggered by reader insert fic. I let my own upset get the better of me and hurt folks, and for that I apologize. I've since deleted those posts since they were unhelpful and unfair. I hope that this post comes across as helpful, rather than judgmental or belittling.

Note: None of these suggestions limit what you can write; write whatever content you want to make! All suggestions are restricted to what kind of warnings/content notes you can include to help trans folks navigate reader fic more comfortably.

If you have a certain biology in mind for your reader, be specific. If you're writing reader as having a vagina/front hole, instead of tagging the fic as "AFAB Reader," say, "reader has a vagina/vulva." Not all AFAB people have vaginas, and many AMAB trans & intersex people do have vaginas. By saying "reader is AFAB," trans women, trans femmes, and other AMAB trans & intersex people are tacitly excluded from a fic, and the implied assumption is that AFAB people all have the same genitals.

Include a content note about what terms are used for the reader's body, and, again, be specific. In particular, avoid things like "feminine terms are used for reader." A lot of trans masculine people use the words cunt, clit, breasts, etc. for themselves; these terms are not inherently feminine. Referring to biological terms as “masculine” or “feminine” can come across as misgendering trans audiences. Instead, take note of which terms you're using, and list them. For example, "The terms hole, folds, lips, clit, and chest are used for reader,” or, “The terms length, cock, and tits are used for reader.”

Include a content note about the type of sex depicted or referenced. Lots of folks already use tags saying what type of sex is included, such as bottom reader or vagina fingering, which is great! It's also helpful to review what passing references are made. If the fic is mostly about oral but reference is made to reader bottoming during vaginal sex, include a note about that in the summary/CNs. If reference is made to a reader topping, same thing. Many trans folks have lots of dysphoria (and potentially euphoria!) around sex & sexual activities, and giving them a heads-up about what to expect is kind & compassionate.

Review your fic for other traditionally gendered language you might be using. You don't have to change such language/imagery; just include a content note for things that are common dysphoria triggers, which include references to hair, body type, clothing, etc. for example, descriptions of reader’s long hair*, curves, skirts/dresses*, or use of traditionally gendered language like "minx" or "bitch" might be deeply uncomfortable for a trans masculine or neutral person. (*Note: Obviously long hair and skirts/dresses are not inherently feminine; these are Western cultural norms, but most English-speaking fandom is Western/abides by Western cultural gender roles. They're also common [though obviously not ubiquitous] dysphoria triggers for transgender folks.) It's useful to include in your content notes what language/appearance markers are used for your reader. For example, "Reader has long hair and wears a dress in one scene."

These content notes don't have to be long, at all. An example that includes all 4 bullet points: "Reader has a vulva, and terms used for them are chest, cunt, and clit. Passing reference is made to reader bottoming vaginally in the past. In one scene, reader is described as curvy."

The TL;DR here is give your audience a heads-up about what they can expect from the fic so that your trans audience can read comfortably. Adding these content notes should only take a couple of minutes, and can make a tremendous difference that makes trans folks feel included and respected.

You don’t have to do anything with your fic you don’t want to. But if you do want to be inclusive to trans readers, I hope you find this post a helpful place to start. idk if anyone else in the marauders fandom feels this way, but i actively fear for the day that anything harry potter or marauders is on the trending page while i am in this fandom

like if there’s anything that’s created “officially” with the marauders, then fuck off no, i’m not consuming it and i may even just leave the fandom or see if we could collectively decide to change everyone’s names just to avoid the curse that is being connected to the wicked bitch of the west

like if anything was made canonically in the marauders fandom it would NOT BE GOOD, it would be soul crushingly heteronormative and cisgender and likely whitewashing all of the characters, it would be a story that likely worships snape and would go out of it’s way to ruin any characterization of the marauders. it would be hell to see, even in my peripheral vision

all i can think of as a sort of conclusion is to state this: i love the marauders fandom because of it’s queerness. because of how i can feel a sense of gender euphoria in how masculine and feminine i can imagine sirius black as being (because i’m the one interpreting them, i have the power). because of the inherent metaphors for queerness and disability that come with an angsty depressed werewolf with severe anger issues. because of the many different perspectives and experiences that i have been able to observe through the fics in this fandom.

so, here i will be, manifesting some deal with the devil and/or some other demons that would take me up on it, so i never have to worry about jkr trying to take this fandom over with her own trash content. (yes i am wishing death on this woman, because of the extreme negative impact that she has had via her making being transgender a political issue, via ostracizing those of us in the community, via making it hard to simply live and be as she and her supporters continue attempting to criminalize us and begin a genocide against trans people.)

So, I'm fairly new to the BL fandom and consequently as you're navigating these spaces one tends to stumble upon fandom drama, present and past.

Now, as you're someone I respect and whose fics I enjoy, I'd like your opinion on Kr*st after reading this thread. I think you've shaded him before but I'm in a neutral space when it comes to him because the person making this thread is also a fic author I thoroughly enjoy as well for WinTeam/UWMA fics.

Forming an opinion on the subject matter when you're being pulled in two directions leaves me in a neutral space where I actively don't interact with Kr*st's stuff but I don't feel personally offended either considering it was long ago whilst I wasn't a part of BL fandom.

It's just so interesting to me that a bi/queer person is supportive of him whilst I also encounter other bi/queer people who can't even stand looking at him. It seems to be pretty divided when it comes to him from my standpoint.

If it isn't too much of a bother, and I apologize if its asking for too much, what's your opinion on the thread this person made?

Hi! It's not a bother at all! See the thing about Krist is that, at the end of the day, he's a celebrity with a PR team. He's got people coaching him on how to handle press and what to say or not say in interviews and such, so deciding what you believe is his sincerity and what's them just covering the right bases will be up to personal interpretation.

I'm not too surprised that there are still queer people who support him. They see him as someone who has made mistakes and said stuff he shouldn't have said and as someone who has since grown. That's their prerogative. Me, personally, I don't see him like that. When I came into the fandom in 2020 it was right around the time that Krist was truly falling from grace, at least on twitter, as such I saw a lot of often contradictory opinions on him. So I watched his clips, the homophobic stuff he said, his affinity to make rape jokes, casual queerphobic comments, the way he used to act around his fellow gmm stars, and came to the conclusion that i did not care for him at all.

If someone says or does something shitty and then takes responsibility for it and actively tries to do better then I will always acknowledge their efforts to be better. But for Krist who has a habit of saying homophobic things, saying sorry, saying the "right" supportive things when everyone else is and then going on to make some bitchass comment yet again, I can't take him seriously anymore. You can't be going "two men kissing is disgusting" then on official interviews talk about how we need to be respectful towards the lgbtq+ community only to then turn around yet again and say stuff like "oh this is an lgbt costume/our theme is lgbt" because someone put you in a purple shirt. The only thing that I've seen him do consistently is make comments that make people mad or uncomfortable. From homophobia to rape jokes to creepy comments towards costars, he's done it all and for that i cannot atand him.

Another thing that makes me feel wary of him is that, as the thread suggests, he was quite close to a lot of gmm people that I follow and adore. OffGun, Tay, Jennie, etc. But in recent years there's been a noticeable distance between him and people at gmm. People he used to hang out with outside of work all the time will barely be interacting with him during work events, if that's not suspicious idk what is.

And then on top of all that, he's just? Untalented??? Like his acting is subpar at best. He's not good at emotionally heavy or expressive scenes, he lacks the kind of charisma needed for all these main roles gmm keeps putting him in, he often can't keep up with his costars. Like! There's nothing there for me to like about him at all and so shading him for all the genuinely shady shit he constantly pulls and the favouritism he's unjustly receiving from gmm execs feels more than justified to me.

Of course this all my own opinion based on all that I've seen from him and I urge you to look at all possible angles on your own time before making your final judgement.

Yes, it's gone.

Read on if you want to know my reasons for deleting Duplicity and Loser. TL;DR: I felt alienated, lost motivation, and I just don't want part of the community anymore.

I'm not really sure this deserves much of a TL;DR because that was simplistic enough. What it comes down to is I went into this with a lot of motivation and excitement because of members of a yandere community, and since I'm no longer a part of that community, I don't want to be a part of the fandom at all. Interests change.

I'm not going to name names or point fingers, because I just want to wipe my hands clean and start making things that I enjoy, that I like, and that aren't bound by certain rules or restrictions regarding the type of character someone is, if that makes sense. I struggled a lot coming up with Griffin's design and personality, and I started seeing that he was basically a blanket version of other yanderes in the community. He had no substance. And every time I tried to give him some, I'd step out of the boundaries of what I thought a yandere should be. It was frustrating and uncomfortable and hard to work with.

On top of that, the community I was apart of quickly unraveled when I took a break because of my health issues. When I came back, it was different, weird, and foreign almost. I tried my best to re-engage and get back into the swing of things, but I was met with resistance, indifference, and I was severely invalidated in my opinions. It was hurtful, because this community felt like a one-of-a-kind find for me. I could be who I am in it, without judgment. But then I realized, I didn't have any value in it, either. No one really cared as much as I (and some other people) did about trying to make things better for it.

And that's the problem. I cared too much.

I cared too much whether or not I fit in, whether or not my games and characters and art fit in with the community itself, whether I was liked enough. I put too much of myself into it and got nearly nothing back in return. I made some great friends that I will cherish forever outside of that community, but I no longer want any part of it. I don't like the indifferent vibes. I don't like that no one will speak up for themselves. I don't like that when I spoke up for myself, I was basically told to "take a break". Okay, but that doesn't solve the problem.

So I'm leaving, basically. I deleted Duplicity's tumblr, and Lian's tumblr, and any posts having to do with it. I will keep a few of my favorites around to see their progress, but I won't be an active part anymore. I restricted access to Duplicity and Loser on itch.io. Will I make games again? Probably, but they'll be my games, made completely from my imagination, and for myself mostly.

I just want to focus on practicing my writing, practicing my character development, and developing my art into something I can love again. I don't want to fit into any boxes anymore. I just want to make the things I like, when I want to make them, if that makes sense.

I'm sorry to anyone who truly enjoyed my games and characters. I'm sorry that I'm just another one of "those" developers with empty promises. I could pretend and say something like "it will be back again, when I'm feeling it" but I won't feel it. I love Griffin and Tris and Tai, and maybe I'll tell their stories in a different format. Maybe I'll rework them into something else. But for right now, they're packed away in their own little boxes in the back of my mind.

In all seriousness, take care of yourselves. Don't bend and twist yourself into something you're not. Don't break your back trying to fit in places for the sake of missing out or wanting connections. Just love yourself and the things you create without any apologies.

I'll be posting art and writing and whatever I damn well feel like, whenever I feel like it.

Ok, so I haven’t been active like AT ALL for the past 4 months. The main reason is because I’ve been busy with personal stuff (gotta try my hand at steaming video games incredibly soon).

And the secondary reason -that kept me offline because there’s another computer at home that at that time was faster and more convenient than my laptop so I used it instead- is that back in february I started getting back into South Park, lurking around and reading meta posts. And there’s TONS of meta about this show so it took a while.

Tl;Dr : While my blog is still going to focus on kids’ cartoons, there’s going to be a few posts talking about SP before going back to Mi//lo because I need to get some stuff off my chest. If you don’t want anything to do with it but still follow the blog, you can block the “South Park” and “SP” tags. Those posts will be put early (for US time at least) so it’s easier to avoid depending on how much you scroll. And while I won’t talk about SP much past those few posts, I will make more as answers if I get sent questions about the show.

Long explanation including my experience with SP under the cut

For context, I’ve known about this show since I was a kid (had an older sibling who thought it was a good idea to show a literal 9 years-old such a show. It wasn’t. Like, I’m not traumatized or anything and my sibling actually forbade me from watching specific episodes on top of me knowing swearing was a big no. But still, don’t show SP to freaking kids).

Then during my teenage years I had fond memories of this show but was too afraid of its potential sexual content to get back to it. Eventually, I stopped being sex-repulsed when I turned 18-19 and, around two years ago, had the time to watch the whole show and made that one post about “Buddha Box” (pretty sure I also lurked around the fandom and looked up some meta back then as well). As of right now, I watch whenever new episodes come out.

Why am I talking about this ? Because reading some meta made me want to say a few things about the show.

But the thing is, my blog has been focused on kids’ shows for a while now so I’m well-aware that part of the people reading my posts are minors. And while I know that the SP fandom has many teenagers in it, I also know that the idea of getting back into this show as a teen myself made me uncomfortable back then due to the fear of what I could end up stumbling across. I mean, the show has quite the reputation for a reason.

So this post is basically a warning for my younger audiences, along with any adult who’s understandably uncomfortable with SP : I only intend to make a handful of posts + a few oneshots, and all of it will be tagged as both “South Park” and “SP” so block those tags if you don’t wanna see it (or block my blog as a whole if you don’t want to follow someone who likes such a show; I’m in no place to judge people for wanting to feel comfortable while scrolling through Tumblr)

Tbh, I’m kind of a closeted fan due to its reputation. So as a result, know that I don’t intend on reblogging any post (as tempting as it can be because the meta of this fandom can be so good sometimes !). I’m definitely going to follow some blogs focused on SP meta but you won’t see any of it on my blog. Also, I intend to post my stuff early and then bury it under other stuff I want to reblog. And given how long I’ve been offline, there’s plenty of other stuff to reblog.

Although, if you want me to talk about South Park, you can send asks and I will answer them. My askbox is open to any question about any piece of media that is part of my fandom tags list or my PFP, even if it includes stuff I never talked about before or stayed distant from the fandom of. SP is no exception to this.

Another thing I wanted to say : if you’re interested in watching but is afraid of what you’ll end up seeing, I’d advise you to look up lists of trigger warnings if that’s a thing or ask someone who knows the show like the back of their hand for a list of episodes you might like (don’t ask me about it tho. I haven’t watched the full show in almost two years, which was also the first time I saw 90% of the episodes past season 8, on top of making the mistake of binge-watching to see one season per day/2 days). One thing for sure, though, is that pretty much every episode contains delicate stuff.

Btw, as someone who watched the show in French and only recently watched some scenes in English, I wanna point out that the English version uses the R-slur a LOT. Or at least, it wasn’t as noticeable when I watched the French version.

But I think that might be due to the fact that, in French, we have the word “con” which means “fucking stupid” and I wouldn’t be surprised if many occasions of the R-slur being used was replaced in French with this insult, hence why the word doesn’t seem to appear as much (they do use the French equivalent of the R-slur at times tho. Just like for any other slur the show uses).

In general, you can expect a lot of slurs and stereotypes from this show so be wary of that. Best example I can give as a NB transmasc : I’m definitely bothered by “Board Girls”, though I’m more bothered by the way transphobes used this episode to be assholes.

Ultimately, when thinking about SP and trans rep, I try comforting myself by thinking about the episode “The Cissy” that talks about “separating transphobes from the normal people who don’t care”. It’s sweet how they call trans people and non-transphobes cis people the “normal” ones.

Plus, you have “Fractured but Whole” with an incredibly large sexuality and gender selection that shows that Matt and Trey really did their homework, giving out the hope that “Board Girls” came from a place of ignorance on top of a lack of a recurring trans character as part of the main/major cast, rather than them being mean-spirited towards trans people. Hence why the reception bothers me more than the episode itself.

Also, just as a small note, I watch the show for the characters first but also for the entertainment, and by characters I mean the kids. I’m not American, don’t know shit about American celebrities and I’m not invested in politics. So when it comes to the message of an episode, I either understand it or doesn’t, in which case I don’t really try to get much info on what was to understand.

Like, taking for example an episode from S25 : in “City People”, I could tell the show was making fun of realtors and people from big cities but, since I don’t know shit about either of those, I have no idea how accurate the portrayal was and didn’t think too much of it.

(So basically, I watch the show the wrong way but at least I’m getting some fun out of it)

On that note, there are also times when I completely miss the point of an episode, which actually makes me think about how the show is probably liked by “dudebros” because they’re able to close their eyes on what the show mocks about them or twist it in a way that validates them.

But yeah, when I say I can miss the point of an episode, I’m mostly thinking about Matt and Trey spending years not believing in climate change. But I didn’t know their position on this while watching.

For example, with the episode “Two Days Before The Day After Tomorrow”, I thought the joke was that people are freaking out about climate change like it was one huge catastrophe that was about to suddenly happen, when in reality climate change is a really slow process, hence why we’ve been talking about it for years (or at least was a slow process back then, it’s gotten quicker nowadays).

So yeah, I completely missed the point on this one and it’s only later on that I learned what Matt and Trey wanted to say with this episode. Guess I was too optimistic about the duo on that one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. At least they learned from their mistake and apologized with a two-parter later on (and I kinda love how they’re like “Yeah this guy was right about climate change. He’s still an asshole tho”, this kind of stuff is great !)

But anyways, this post is getting way too long and rambly. Long story short : blog is gonna get active again.

Decided to write a bio thing because I'm bored + I wanna establish some boundaries here so uhh- here's some stuff about me Cartoon Buffoon aswell as other things if you wanna know!

Who am I?

Hello! I'm Cartoon Buffoon and I write stuff and like cartoons, there's a chance you've could of read my stuff if you read one shots on AO3 that feature Oswald The Lucky Rabbit since I have a tendency to write fluffy content relating to him, and angst on occasion (some of my stories are 18+ tho yet more on that later). I'm simply a buffoon for cartoons is all. I love old animation from the 1920s-60s yet I also do indulge in more modern stuff as well.

Identity

I'm bisexual🩷💜💙(leaning towards men) and aromantic 💚🤍🖤.

My gender is uhh... Complicated? I don't know what I am although I currently identify as gender fluid although I do refer to myself as trans as well🏳️‍⚧️.

Pronouns are He/She/They/anything else really! Toon is usually the nickname I'm most comfortable with online.

One last thing I should note about myself is my horrid mental health and terrible anxiety, I do struggle with emotions and such so I have a tendency to be vulgar and "edgy" although I always try to be polite to anyone I meet. I suffer from a cataclysm of other issues mentally as well although I still try to be nice and funny to make up for this.

Final Things

I suffer from a lot of stuff as such I use fiction to cope, quite a few of my writings are a bit self indulgent in the angst sad to say. One such thing I suffer from is hypersexuality and I do write 18+ fanfiction involving my favorite characters to cope (I write smut, to put it bluntly) although I do try to be a genuine writer and a few of my works demonstrate some sort of semblance of competency. For obvious reasons I'm not gonna talk about my non-respectable NSFW works on here although they do exist on my AO3 and I feel like I should at least acknowledge them. In my writings I also like to capture the magic of old cartoons in their humor so if you read my stuff you'll notice a trend of me trying to write or mimic rubberhose gags through words and detail.

I'm also a multishipper and a giant simp for fictional cartoon characters and technical self-shipper. I'm making note of this as some people are uncomfortable with this for some reason? The characters I simp for also align with my interest in rubberhose characters like: Skitzo the 1920s Killer Bear, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, Felix the Cat, The Cartoon Cat, The Cartoon Dog. Anything that's black and white and has that asthetic is something I'm interested in, and each of my interest holds a character I'm attracted to like FNF/newgrounds having the Tankmen, or Super Sonic from Fleetway's run of Sonic comics.

The ships I like are usually gay in nature but I do like straight ships too, I'm also a big fan of crack ships aka characters that wouldn't logically be together although I look at canon and say "nuh-uh, I can make this cute". I ship Oswald with any and nearly every toon (expect for Mickey for obvious reasons) and I'm the proud captain of the SkitWald ship aka Skitzo the killer bear and Oswald.

To sum myself up: I'm mainly a lover of the obscure or forgotten while trying to create works or content to bring attention to my favorite things while also just trying to keep myself together physically and mentally.
