Zeenat Aman disapproves of idea of making her biopic: “In my opinion, it would be foolish…”
Actress Zeenat Aman has recently spoken out against an unauthorized biopic being made about her life.
Veteran actress Zeenat Aman, who recently captivated audiences with her social media presence, has publicly disapproved of an unauthorized biopic titled Shaq: The Doubt. In an Instagram post, she called the decision to make the film without her involvement "foolish."
Tumblr media
The Yaadon Ki Baaraat actress gained a new wave of fans through her social media engagement. The announcement of Shaq: The Doubt, featuring Payal Ghosh as Aman, sparked skepticism among fans, prompting the actress to address the situation directly.
In her post, she discussed the importance of her involvement in any project portraying her life story. "Nobody knows me like I do," she stated, highlighting the potential for an incomplete and inaccurate depiction without her input. She elaborated on the wealth of personal experiences and anecdotes crucial to understanding her journey, experiences not readily available in the public domain.
Expressing her concerns about the potential portrayal, the 72-year-old actress revealed her apprehension towards strangers, particularly men, narrating her story. She voiced her worries about perpetuating harmful stereotypes, particularly the "sex symbol" label she has challenged for decades.
Despite her disapproval of the unauthorized biopic, Aman did not entirely dismiss the possibility of a future cinematic exploration of her life. She acknowledged ongoing conversations about potential film or series projects and expressed a cautious openness to the idea. However, she shed light on the importance of a "sensitive director, a brave writer, an immaculate cast," and adequate financial backing for such a project to come to fruition.
Coming to the professional front, Zeenat is all set to make a comeback with an upcoming Bollywood film, titled Bun Tikki. Faraz Arif Ansari of Sheer Qorma fame is directing the film and starring Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol. The forthcoming film is backed by Jio Studios and fashion designer Manish Malhotra's banner Stage 5 Production.

This is against the laws of nature.
Hasn’t this very nature created Saira and Sitara? Have they been created by another God?

I say this over and over again that when people ask me who my target audience is, I have a simple answer. The target audience for all my films is my mother. That’s it, my answer.
The target audience for ‘Sisak’ was my mother, the target audience for ‘Sheer Qorma’ is my mother. Both my films are dedicated to her. I came out to my mother when I was 21, under very dire circumstances. I was going through some really troubling personal relationship stuff. I’m 30 now. It wasn’t easy at all when I came out to her, but I had to and it’s been so many years but still...don’t get me wrong, she does accept me, but not entirely.
That is the conversation I am putting forward with ‘Sheer Qorma’ that acceptance is a multidimensional journey. It is not one dimensional, it’s not that “Oh I accept you”, it’s done, “Oh I love you” and done. It’s not that. Even love is a multidimensional journey, it takes years to find the courage to love and embrace someone entirely for who they are. And I feel that now, every time my mother hugs me she’s not able to embrace me entirely. Although her arms are completely around me, and I have my head buried in her shoulders, there is a void that needs to be filled. ‘Sheer Qorma’ is about that void.
There is some level of acceptance, but is that enough? Is that what you want to give to someone who was created within you? Is that what you really want your child to have?
And that’s why I think the target audience for all my films is my mother and by default, the parents of all queer children around the globe because we never really have conversations about them and their journey in accepting us.
It’s always about us, about how I feel, about me and my identity. In the process of finding ourselves, we end up forgetting that we’re not alone in this. As much as I hate to say it, they will always be a part of our identity and I think ‘Sheer Qorma’ explores that. That's why it’s a U rated film and you can watch it with your parents, your grandparents, your lover, your best friend, anyone you want.
By default, my target audience is the queer community as well of course and allies and everyone else who feels that we need an equal platform. ‘Sheer Qorma’ is a universal film so, anyone who understands that acceptance and love is the need of the hour, this is a film for all of them.
I hope the film reaches them because I think we’re all in such turmoil - all of us need a giant hug that understands us in some way. We need that warmth, we need that love to come forward and allow us that moment of respite.
We’ve done a few test screens of ‘Sheer Qorma’ and I invited a few of my mother’s friends so that they could watch the film. You wouldn’t believe - most of them don’t even have queer children but it was so cathartic for them. I remember that they all felt like going home and hugging their child because they never really understand the amount of trauma they go through just to find love and acceptance from us.
'Sheer Qorma' brings love back into the system, because till now even I’ve not had that moment of acceptance with my mother. So I feel Sheer Qorma is somewhere cinematically in a parallel universe, allowing myself to experience that moment of what it would be if I ever had that in my life.
There are many queer children who want that acceptance, and Sheer Qorma gives you a sneak peek into that moment of how it would feel.

'I will hold my husband's collar and demand him to write it!'- Cinema express
‘I will hold my husband’s collar and demand him to write it!’- Cinema express
She is fierce, she is bold, she is progressive and she is unapologetically opinionated. She is Shabana Azmi — often credited as the Meryl Streep of India and the country’s only actress to have won five National Awards for best actress, the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan and even a seat in the Rajya Sabha! She also recently won the best actress award for her role in LGBTQIA+ themed film Sheer Qorma…
