i'm cleaning up my desk and found a note that I wrote god-knows-when with a story idea for the Untamed that, if i can recall the thinking behind the scribbles, goes a little like this:

in a tale as old as time, Jin Zixuan gets his awkward/arrogant teenage ass cursed.

the curse?

he can shapeshift into a dog. not always voluntarily.

his mother is pissed and can't find a way to lift it. she is 100% not going to tell JGS because of his whole deal.

Mianmian knows because at some point on a nighthunt going wrong JZX stress-poofed into a pomeranian in front of her.

no one else knows.

anyway, canon events happen.

JYL finding out that her new husband turns into a canine is certainly a surprise twist she did not see coming, but well she's always liked dogs and was sad when JC's dogs had to leave when WWX came to Lotus Pier.

Anyway, JL is born in the normal way, a huge honker of a baby.

Everyone is thrilled.

Everything is normal.

then

rocks fall

Everyone dies.

JC ends up taking his nephew home to Lotus Pier to take care of him as like there is no one else.

Four months later JC picks JL up from his nap one afternoon and screams as the baby turns into a husky puppy in his arms.

JL doesn't understand what the fuss is about. he's a baby and he's hungry. so what if he howls instead of cries?

JC is not as sanguine. Queue a bottle episode where through flashbacks and exposition, it's worked out that while JZX might have been cursed, JL is just... like that.

Great, so now what?

anyway this is my tl'dr as to why Jin Ling and Fairy are actually the same person and this is why Jin Ling is so annoyed when MX!WWX is terrified of Fairy. like, what, this big bad demonic cultivator can't tell that the 140lb doggo with the Jiang-sect clarity bell is more than just some pooch?

Lame, da-jiu. Lame.

au of an au for mdzs where canon plays out exactly as it was supposed to except

wwx became a calamity after dying and cared for his coven of ghosts in yiling before mxy summoned him for revenge.

he still elopes with lwj after solving the corpse question

supreme ghosts have a similar ability to gods taking deputies, except since they're not sharing immortality they can have a lot more of them

wwx's "deputies" are (in order) jiang cheng, the wen remnants, luo qingyang, nie huaisang, mo xuanyu, jin ling, lan jingyi, ouyang zhizhen, lan sizhui, and lan wangji.

being a calamity's "deputy" means that you are soul bonded to them, with a kind of preternatural sense of the wellbeing of the entire coven.

one of the heavenly officials decides to fuck around with time, and only other heavenly officials were supposed to remember, except extremely strong ghosts and their covens also remember because there are TWO gods married to calamities, and calamities are weirdly cooperative with each other (hc, hx, wwx, & gL discuss trade agreements over tea and artistic process over alcohol).

thus like 75 people are now in the past.

wwx's child body cant stand the power his soul has and just kinda crumbles under the weight. thats mostly fine tho cause he can shapeshift.

of course he immediately comes up with a dastardly plan to inflict as much chaos onto the sects as possible while also protecting his loved ones at the same time. he gets in contact with the wen remnants (bigger and there's more of them) and slowly moves them over to yiling while he builds places for them to live on the mountain, and then offers the people of yiling a very good deal:

"we'll deal with all your ghost problems for free, and in exchange we get discounts on food, and you tell everyone who comes asking that the Yiling Wei sect has been here the entire time."

its almost too easy to set up, too. they forge some trade agreements and other documents to place in the other sects' files, waiting to be found, with ease, bc he knows what the filing for the jiang, lan, wen, and nie looks like, and part of the story is that the jin offended them so badly that they just stopped doing business with them altogether and also tend to actively hate them with few exceptions.

meanwhile, huaisang, qingyang, and wangji will reference the Yiling Wei and act like this is something everyone knows about, and jiang cheng catches on and starts doing the same.

wwx's plan is to drive them all insane by appearing out of nowhere and acting like he's been there the entire time. make them question reality.

wen popo, at a discussion conference: i'll be standing in for my grandson so he can participate in the games

jiang fengmian, initiating polite conversation: your grandson? what happened to your son?

wen popo, internally cackling: fengmian! are you so quick to discard changze like this?! for shame!!

jiang fengmian, who has never met this lady: what

wen popo: you know i trusted him when he said he wanted to stand by his sworn brother's side but if this is how you treat his memory after he was so unwaveringly loyal to you, only ever leaving for Cangse, the love of his life, then i'll have to have you stricken from the legacy registry!

wen popo, with unfaltering confidence: good evening wen-zhongzhu

wen ruohan, who has incurable face blindness: well met Wei-zhongzhu (do i know her???)

nie mingjue is the only one who's taking any of this well and thats solely because his brother has been spoon feeding him Yiling Wei propaganda for 13 years. lan xichen has a crisis because his baby brother eloped with a clan leader he met thrice and they're having a spring wedding.

Prompt 1: Along with forming a golden core most cultivators gain the ability to shapeshift. What they shift into depends on the cultivator, but there are certain tendencies in bloodlines. Jiang Cheng has shifted exactly once in absolute privacy. He didn't stay shifted after finding scales and claws instead of feathers and wings, some sort of reptile from the Yu bloodline. He's since been pretending not to be able to shift at all, but you can only deny your nature for so long.

The children of Jiang sect were supposed to be birds.

It was part and parcel of everything they were, everything they stood for, the history of their sect reaching back for generations. Their ancestors had bid their descendants to attempt the impossible, and their filial descendants lived up to their command – they spread their wings and flew freely in the air, unstoppable. They lived as freely as they flew, living according to their own inclinations and wishes, and in so doing thrived in all respects.

Naturally, living so close to the water, the most common type of bird for a Jiang sect disciple to shift into once they were old enough to form their golden cores was a duck. It was so common so as to be a joke in the cultivation world: how are the Jiang temperaments so good? It’s because they treat everything like water off a duck’s back!

But you didn’t have to be a duck, of course; there were plenty of other types of bird. You could be a falcon with sharp talons, like Wei Wuxian – who wasn’t even a real Jiang! – or a beautiful songbird, like Jiang Yanli, or any type of bird from the many that were Jiang Cheng’s shidi, from the humble pigeon to the brilliant parrot and back. You could even be a peacock, if you just so happened to have some Jin sect blood in you – there was a reason Jiang Yanli’s match with the Jin sect heir was so popular with everyone in the sect, even putting aside the political benefits of it. All the old women were sighing all day over what beautiful children they’d have one day, with such lovely plumage.

No, in the Jiang sect, you could be anything…as long as it could fly.

The Yu sect weren’t birds.

That was how Jiang Cheng’s father had been able to resist marriage with his mother for so long – the Yu sect were grounds-people, powerful and admirable in all respects but not quite to the taste of the Jiang sect. They were snakes and scorpions, spiders and serpents. The Violent Spider lived up to her name, turning into a small creature that was both flashy and deadly, filled with venom, beautiful in its own way…but that way was not the Jiang sect’s way.

It wasn’t a complete rule, of course, or else Jiang Cheng’s parents wouldn’t have gotten married at all. Plenty of people in the Jiang sect, following their hearts freely, married people who weren’t birds, choosing to carry their loved ones with them in their hearts as they flew – after all, weren’t they all cultivators? Even if you couldn’t fly in your shifted form, you could soar on a sword.

But it was better to be able to fly naturally.

If you could fly on your own, shifted, then that meant you had the Jiang sect heart. It meant you didn’t need to rely on anyone else to fly for you…it meant you didn’t have to be in anyone’s heart to reach the sky.

(Jiang Cheng’s mother was called Madame Yu, even when she ought to be Madame Jiang. Wasn’t that because everyone, including her, knew that she didn’t live in the heart of her husband the sect leader whenever he took to the air?)

Jiang Cheng had dreamt of flight ever since he was a child. He didn’t care what type of bird he’d be, whether sharp or soft, big or small, as long as he could get into the air. When he first learned how to fly on his sword, he barely spent any time on the ground, always wasting his spiritual energy puttering around enthusiastically.

And then he’d gotten old enough to hear the whispers.

His temperament is like his mother’s. Always sharp and scolding! Always thinking too much! How can he fly free like a Jiang? He has too many cares, tying him down to the ground. It’s good to be responsible, but not to the point where you no longer follow the sect’s path. He’s just too much.

I bet he’s not even a bird at all.

Wei Wuxian had never paid any mind to any of them and told Jiang Cheng to do the same, but it was easy for him to say, the genius that understood the Jiang sect motto down to his bones. The very same day he formed his golden core he turned himself into a falcon and dashed into the air, free and proud, faster than all the rest of them. Not like Jiang Cheng.

Not at all like Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng, who waited until he was all alone to try to shift, not telling anyone, and who recoiled in horror when he saw the flash of scale instead of feather that appeared on his skin – he didn’t even bother completing the full shift, fleeing back to the safety of human flesh. There wasn’t any point in finishing the shift. After all, if he wasn’t able to fly, could he even call himself a Jiang?

He pretended instead that he was just indifferent to the shift. Who needed it, anyway? It was so frivolous! He could fly just as well on a sword, and work on his cultivation in the meantime. Shifting was just a waste of time. If his father was disappointed, or more disappointed than usual, he didn’t say it; his mother, who had previously expressed some interest in his shift, dropped the subject so gracefully that he didn’t even realize it for months and months. Only Wei Wuxian still pestered him, and him Jiang Cheng already knew how to refute.

He didn’t shift. He didn’t see the point.

He didn’t shift at the Cloud Recesses.

He didn’t shift when he came home.

He didn’t –

“You’ll have to go in your animal forms,” his mother said as the Lotus Pier burned behind them. Her face was stern as anything, looking down at the two of them in that horrible boat she’d forced them on, Zidian binding and compelling them. “It’s the only way for you to escape notice.”

“No – no –” Jiang Cheng cried, resisting, even as Wei Wuxian’s resistance collapsed and he turned into that falcon again, unwillingly soaring into the sky with a collar of purple lightning around his neck dragging him as if by a chain. “Mother…!”

“Go!”

Jiang Cheng shifted.

Just like the first time, the scales came first, and he lowered his head, not wanting to see his mother’s disappointed expression – he knew, and she knew, and he knew that she knew, but knowing was one thing and seeing was another. He didn’t want to see her expression when it was confirmed that he was her son in truth, and in so being, was no true Jiang.

After the scales came, his body began to lengthen, his arms shrinking, and he assumed he would fall to the ground and shrink the way Wei Wuxian did – except he didn’t.

He got bigger.

His arms got smaller, but they didn’t disappear. His mouth spread across his face, but his teeth grew larger, curling out from his jaw, and from his brow he could feel horns appearing.

What in the world…?

“Oh, my son,” his mother whispered, and when Jiang Cheng looked up at her in surprise, he found that her always-steely eyes were suddenly wet. “Thank you for letting me see you fly.”

Jiang Cheng felt his body uncurl, Zidian compelling him, and he leapt into the sky, body flowing behind him like a ribbon in the breeze – he was his mother’s son, scales and all, but he was a Jiang, too.

The Jiang sect were supposed to be birds.

Jiang Cheng had been disappointed in himself when he wasn’t, but he’d forgotten that he’d never much cared about being a bird.

He’d only wanted to fly.

The dragon in the air above the Jiang sect, purple lightning dragging him away, threw his head back and roared, promising vengeance when he returned.

Kay's comments: This story has really enjoyable world-building and I loved to see the sects re-imagined as shifters. Like in canon, a war plays out between the sects in this story. However, the allegiances are different and in the end, the Jiangs are on the losing side and the story follows how Wei Wuxian ended up being turned over to the Lans and then promptly courted by Hanguang-Jun himself. Even during the war on opposing sides, Wangxian had already hit it off and their developing relationship in this story was right up my alley! Lan Wangji truly knows how to treat Wei Wuxian as he deserves and shower him in love and appreciation! Excerpt: Wei Ying’s part of the border had held, in contrast to the one near the coast. And so, it had been deemed more important that he guard their back against Gusu. It meant that Wei Ying had spent the last month skirmishing with Lan Wangji, Hanguang-Jun. Heir of Gusu and, as all of the main Lan clan, dragon shifter. Truly an awesome sight in his dragon form, Wei Ying had never seen anything as beautiful as that. All sleek, white scales, with ice blue accents, swift and elegant in the air. But fighting him directly like that? Not his idea of fun. Bears at least stayed on the ground. It had involved a lot of tactically chosen cover, talisman work and quick, intense duels. He was managing to hold the border, despite still having mainly common troops, and a few of the other outer disciples. But this would not work forever. For the moment, his requests for reinforcement had been denied, due to the Nie and Wen effectively pressing the Jin and Yu – the Nie had been joined by Zewu-Jun and his men, which was making things very difficult for the Jin. As Wei Ying had expected, their side was crippled by power plays and politics. There were factions in the Jin sect, each jockeying for the most prestigious postings. The Yu were too proud to accept someone outside their sect commanding their troops. And Jiang Cheng was terrible at cooperation. It was a mess held together by Jiang Fengmian’s efforts at diplomacy, and the hope for gains.

Before I continue ass creed posting here’s my take on a Jinafire redesign!

Elements of her writing and design really bothered me in the original stuff (despite still liking Jinafire bc she was the only Chinese girl I could look up to in the cast lmao), so I decided it’d be a fun challenge to make a version for myself??

I put in extra concept sketches and my reference board under the cut if anyone’s interested!

Design choices

Her outfit is based on sleek Shanghai silhouettes in fashion (both during the 1920’s and more modern street wear) with textiles inspired by Qing Dynasty art and stitching. I picked the Qing dynasty specifically, since it’s the last/most recent dynasty in china’s history, and would serve as a bridge between her past and her future.

Jin has lotus and water elements in her design, to reference how her lineage of dragon royalty live and thrive with water (she’s the daughter of one of the four dragon kings who rule over the oceans of China, each having their own undersea palace). I also prefer lotus over chrysanthemum as well, since while chrysanthemums are popular in Chinese culture and represent longevity, my mother said if you wore one someone else would assume you’d be going to a funeral since those are offered for grievers to honor the departed’s memory

Her hairpiece is also late Qing dynasty inspired, and her earrings are based on ‘one ear, three rings’ sensibilities for royalty. She has a fondness for pearls also, since pearls are connected to the ocean and are important symbols for dragons.

Abilities

I wanted to compromise and retain the ‘heat’ element of the original Jinafire design, since traditionally they don’t have much to do with fire (that idea is more western). So she can summon small patches of rain and manipulate/produce water, but has the ability to raise the water’s temperature to a gentle warmth or to boiling degrees. By extension, she could manipulate temperature, which allows her to work with metals.

She is a shapeshifter, and has a full-dragon form! Shapeshifting is extremely common in Chinese folklore, and the dragon kings do it all the time.

She can fly! The silky translucent ribbon she wears sometimes is a reference to 飞天, heavenly spirits that could fly using the ribbon.

Character

She still grew up in nobility with a big family of brothers, but she was rather sheltered and was home-schooled by tutors, living in the ocean. When she decides to attend monster high, her family is reluctant, but decides that the experience would do her well. It took time to adjust, and it took a toll on her at first since the difference in processing time is a bit of a shock. Jin has poor time management issues as a result, since assignments she was used to taking time on would now feel faster and more pressing since everything around her goes much quicker, and this in addition to personal competitiveness and projected pressure could lead to burnout. Luckily, she would find a supportive friend group that would help her adjust and ground herself in the present. She’s still very young for a dragon, so she has a lot to learn.

Hope you guys like it! I probably won’t do redesigns of anyone else for a while since I have other larger priorities and interests though

MDZS Shapeshifting Cultivation AU plans

this is mostly just a note for my future fanfic writing, because I have a lot of fic ideas surrounding these ideas and plan to link this post in their notes. posting this publicity for any feedback (pls i beg any ideas) and if anyone wishes to use this as well for fics go ahead!!

Non-cultivators do not have animal traits. These traits come through by learning shape-shifting cultivation.

Not only is it extremely difficult to learn to hide their traits, it is extremely rude to do so for many reasons. The main and biggest reason is hiding your traits as a cultivator is like a big “fuck you” to your ancestors.

While there is A LOT of genetic factors, that is not always the case. The genetic factor is usually just upon the main clan families. A cultivator can never gain traits from the main clans, so they are seen as mythical beings even within this universe.

For rogue cultivators it’s USUALLY random, and can even be from the outer clan types. This is because somewhere in their family tree far back there would have been someone from this clan.

Cultivator children born within a main clan branch have their animal traits from a very young age, and they do not typically change beyond a FEW exceptions. If these changes ever happen, even to outer branching families it’s seen as negative, as they have “abandoned” their clan.

Qishan — Wen family are wolves, outer branches are based on house dogs

Jiang Yanli — Tiger

After reading the domestic timeline ask, I kind of have a possibily dumb and funny spin on it. What if we not only had domestic Shang Tsung and domestic Medusa!reader not only wound up in the New Era timeline and got separated but their oldest child was also with domestic Shang Tsung, and while at first they seem normal at first glance but as soon as they catch wind that there is a possibility that their mother is in danger, they go full on Gorgon, their hair turns into snakes, their eyes are glowing, and they are hissing and ready to throw hands if anything happens to their mother, and now Liu Kang has to deal with over protective hubby! Shang Tsung but now he’s got to deal with a feral Gorgon on the loose and neither is willing to back down until their Medusa! Reader is safe and Liu Kang has to make sure these two don’t go berserk and maim New Era!Shang Tsung and Quan Chi because an overprotective Husband and Child woke up and chose violence

Woke up and chose violence🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's the entire Shang family there! For anyone confused about what the hell they're talking about, go here and here in that order.

First off, I can imagine that MK1 Medusa!Reader's reaction to learning she has a child with Shang Tsung of all people, may be enough to cause her to faint or go completely still as if she were turned into stone. MK1 Shang Tsung, learning another version of himself had a child with the woman he's obsessed with, I can imagine strokes his narcissism since his line has been carried on. That's until said child tries to bite at him while spouting out coloful threats. I can see Quan-chi giving an amused smirk at the scene and commenting "They're definetely your protege."

Also consider this basically is what happens with Shang Tsung and Y/N's child uhhhh Shang Jin or Jin, and Lord Liu Kang as the latter escorts the them to MK1 Shang Tsung and Quan-chi's cells.

Liu Kang: Young Jin, please remain calm as we question the sorcerers. We need them alive if we want to find your mother.

Jin's eyes start to glow much like his mother's: I just want to speak with them

Liu Kang: Wait, what's that hissing noise?

*Jin's long hair shapeshifts into snakes*

Jin: I just want to speak with them.

*Liu Kang narrows his eyes*

Liu Kang: Shang Jin, do not act rashly. We will find you your mother...

*Jin continues to speak over Liu Kang's lecture*

Jin: I just want to speak with them. I just want to speak with them. I just want to speak with them.

*His tone changes when they're finally in front of the Sorcerer's cells and now Jin fully resembles his gorgon mother.*

Jin: I just want to turn them to ssstone. I just want to turn them to ssstone. I just want to turn them to ssstone!

*Jin then grabs MK1 Shang Tsung through the bars while baring his fangs*

Jin: WHAT DID YOU DO TO MOTHER?!

Random MK thought of the day:

Was it Liu Kang’s intention to make most of the roster super hot in the New Era or was that just coincidence? Because he did us good with the new character designs…

I mean, look at them! :

Kenshi in a suit with tattoos is something I didn’t expect, but it makes him even hotter! (Plus Noah Fleder is always a win)

I didn’t find Johnny hot in the previous games, but in this new era, I might think otherwise…

He’s so angry and hot at the same time! How?!

He was such an ass in the previous timeline with his ambition, but I’m thinking otherwise in this new era… (plus his voice is kinda cool)

After her villain arc in Aftermath, I never would’ve thought she would be good. Finally I can actually say, All hail the empress.

The eyes and tattoos? So hot. I almost forgot that he can shapeshift into a giant reptile… (even the dev team said he’s cute)

Like mother, like daughter…

Something about men with masks instantly makes me swoon and I love the fact that he’s in his short hair era. (Oh and he’s voiced by Yuri Lowenthal)

Again, masked men are instantly hot! And those arms… (And his voice actor is the same one for Gojo, so extra hot points for that)

Looks like the good looks run in the family… (and his voice actor’s Jin from Ghost of Tsushima)

Hey, I read your fanfic Tywinn x Sung Jin Woo a long time ago. And I always wondering if Jinwoo In the fic already reawaken or not as Lannisters said that Jin Woo shorter than Tywinn. And if Jin Woo reawaken do you think he become much taller than Tywinn? Because Jin Woo is 190 cm. I always have image in my head about Tywinn looking up with surprised expression when he see Jin Woo become much taller.

This Sung Jinwoo has gone through his second awakening, yes, but he didn't shoot up one foot overnight! He's still growing and maturing into his shadow powers, so although when Tywin first met Jinwoo, Jinwoo still had that baby face (recall that he was hunting for an ingredient to help his mom out of her coma?), Jinwoo has gained a massive height boost now. Eventually one of the Lannisters is going to point out that Jinwoo is shooting up like a tree and is going to be taller than Tywin on the next visit.

Someone, probably Kevan): Gods have the power to change their appearances, but this sure is a lot of shapeshifting.

BAM, in comes Jinwoo in a wig and dress. No heels, but yes to white sneakers since that's what is trending right now.

Ikepri superhero AU? Just a fun idea; this is my take on which powers I think each one might have

Jin - super strength he's already built like a wall and uses his fists in combat, I bet X ray vision would be pretty fitting but let's not go into that direction

Chevalier - clairvoyance (to this day Clavis is convinced it's actually invulnerability)

Clavis - illusions is my go to for clavis and his reign or terror, though chevalier always sees through his ploys. I did consider invisibility as a close second (cough for growing up in his brother's shadow and feeling unseen cough) also, it would be pretty funny if he was elastic man

Leon - I have no idea honestly, I think he'd either be a jack of all trades where he can switch between multiple powers making him a worthy rival for chevalier or have shapeshifting and being able to transform into another person (because of his route, those who know know)

Yves - bad luck. How? I don't know. He's just a magnet for it. He somehow learned to survive it and in a way surf it. My second go-to was regeneration or healing (which would probably make him a constant target for clavis' pranks)

Licht - Invisibility stems from his desire to be left alone or disappear. This was a tie with regeneration where he cannot possibly die or be harmed or harm himself (this in a way could make his suffering worse if you think about it) I also considered him and Nokto having some sort of "twin powers" like actually bringing good and bad fortune.

Nokto - hypnotic speech /eyes. With this super power no business partner can resist his jedi tricks tempting offers. In real world this is the terrifying power of maxed charisma.

Luke - animal morphing or "Therianthropy". Need I say more? Luke but bear. Too easy. I'm assuming this also lets him speak to animals.

Rio - divide what's better than one butler? Two butlers. Second option is teleportation: He's anywhere anytime but most importantly he's always there for you

Sariel - enhanced senses (pls he's raising 8 out-of-control super kids)

Silvio - Money

Gilbert - Telepathy he can use his powers to read minds, but he can also alter or erase someone's memories, or simply make them do what he desires much like prof Xavier making him a dangerous rival for Chevy. The crack alternatives were bottomless stomach or bite of steel

Keith - control over plant life it helps that he's very knowledgeable in the field. Hulkeith

You were on the beach walking around looking for pretty things that the Deeps of the sea could have brought for your eyes. After a while of walking.

you sat down and admired the sun while thinking about all the stories you've heard about it and smiling slightly, then you saw something blue sparkling from the water, seeing the sea pushing it closer to you and then dragging away as if mocking you, fortunately, you were in slippers so you just threw them at a meter away from you and went in to grab it.

Looking closer at it you realized it was a deep blue rock, and after some time of smiling and examining it you grabbed a simple rock two times bigger than the pretty blue one and broke it, well, tried to break it, but at the end when you managed to crack it, it started spilling a very weird blue sparkly liquid, you brought it closer to your face smelling it and then you saw a light that shocked you making you let the rock fall from your hands and stumble three steps backwards

silence, only the deep breathing of the sea was heard for ten seconds, too scared to open your eyes. Then a grunt was heard.

" Oh my gosh, Human did you need to punch me that hard?" Opening your eyes you saw a handsome man starring at you from the sitting position on the sand.

Shocked you kept staring at him and saw his blue lips and very pale face that was also a tint of blue, then his very blond hair, almost white, and he had a blue floral tattoo ( .. ?) on his face from his ear to his other going on top of his nose. He did not look human at all.

His features looked Asian, but, he had blonde hair?

could he be the type of person with the white condition?

No, because his eyes were dark brown, so dark that you could drown in them if looked for too long, and his eyelashes and brows were brown too....?

"will you stop staring at me and bring me to your home already? I'm starving." He groaned as he got up and looked down at you, as he was towering over you.

Completely shocked you nodded and started walking towards your house. On the way, you realized what you were doing, bringing a stranger into your house?!

Are you dumb?! How to bring a stranger, a man! in your house!?

But why couldn't you stop your legs from walking?

Well, that's to be found out...

Combining my WWX ghost king post and my Ravencore WWX post, ghost king WWX definitely has corvid features.

Black feathers are his signature. They even drop from his hair!

All of his ghost devotees (the wen ghosts, those ghosts who choose to follow him) can turn into crows, ravens, blue jays, or magpies, and even mundane corvids trust him implicitly.

They’ll sit on his shoulders, arms, on his lap, on his head, and groom his hair. He’ll walk around the burial mounds ghost town with younglings bundled up in his robes. He sleeps in his cave under a blanket of birds. He asks his crows to watch over Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling, and they keep track of things just in case he forgets something important. Popo and Uncle 4 follow him around to make sure he takes care of himself, even if he’s a ghost now!

His blue jays enjoy teasing Nie Huaisang, too, working for him even as they pull his hair and pick at his clothes and brushes, bringing him critical information.

Wen Qing specifically accompanies him with Wen Ning on the mystery solving journey with Mo Xuanyu.

The corvids are to Wei Ying what fish are to He Xuan. Wei Yings birds are much more self sufficient, however.

To specify, there are the mundane birds, which are like Jin Ling’s spirit dog, and then there are the ghost birds, which are ghosts that follow Wei Ying that learn to take the form of birds to hide from cultivators and assist Wei Ying.

Wei Ying can also shapeshift into a large Raven, with a silver markings on the underside of his wings.

So will Jade faced princess ever be mentioned in your au? Since LMK kinda goes "Don't trust history" I like to imagine she was just Red's babysitter and people assumed she was a mistress

Oh man I went down a fox-hole with this. I find her potiential as a character so good for the LMK verse. She could be a villain, an ally, a general, or in my personal fave idea: Ultimate Auntie. (One of my fave interpetations is by @harveylikestoart).

So my idea for Princess Jade Face / Jade Faced Princess / Yu Mian Gongzhu is this:

Birth name is Ruan Yu (soft jade/nephirite), but goes by Jade to her friends, and Auntie to anyone she deems younger than her.

Appearance wise: she's a humanoid fox spirit/Huli-Jing with dark green hair, pale skin, and big green eyes. Loves wearing really old fashioned long-sleeved hanfu that trail behind her (mostly to shield her tails without glamour), and is hyper-feminine. Wears obnoxiously patterned cheongsams while out and about.

Has a "feral" form of an eight-tailed dark green fox. She mostly shifts into this form for comfort. Think of the shapeshifter equivalent of taking off your bra after work.

She's a minor royal of a big family of fox demons. Same family as Jin & Yin's (+ Lin the accountant's) mom actually! She likes visiting them whenever she's in the city.

Knew DBK long before the Brotherhood days. They were childhood best friends in the Underworld who got mistaken for a couple a lot (cus "a guy and a girl can't just be friends" obvs /sarcasm). When PIF came along, Jade was one of DBK's biggest hypemen.

Her dynamic with DBK and PIF is essentially an older Traffic Light Trio, with her as the Mei. Green coded, high energy, and adored mutually by the others.

Because of her chill nature and hyper-fem style, people assume she's dumber than she actually is. She plays up her more "Barbie" qualities when she's tricking people/gaining information.

She's ridiculously good at handling babies and toddlers since she grew up with so many little nieces/nephews/niblings. When baby Red got fussy, a little visit from Auntie Jade immediately perked him up.

Wasn't an "active" member of the Brotherhood back in the day, but was a big supporter and intelligence gatherer. She almost got charged with treason after Sun Wukong's imprisonment, but PIF covered for her - despite their first impressions not being so great. She offically left the Brotherhood after Princess Iron Fan and Demon Bull King's engagement.

Was really sad alongside PIF and DBK when Red Son/Boy got taken to the Southern Seas by Guanyin to rein in his emotions. The "affair" mentioned in JttW wasn't an affair at all, but a human misinterpetation of how DBK was helping out his homie emotionally. Jade never forgave the writer for branding her as DBK's mistress.

Is extremely doting and embarassing to Red Son even when he's an adult. She's practically his second mother. Cheek pinching, calling him "kit", saying that he needs to eat more food, sharing baby photos with his friends etc...

The "Jade" in her name is not only a reference to her dark green hair/fur. Her family are Rock/Earth-type demons. She was so good at handling Red as a baby since fire doesn't bother her as much. She also owns a fox mask made of literal jade that she wore back in the Brotherhood days to hide her identity she thought looked mysterious and dramatic.

Doesn't have an actual spouse or biological kids of her own. She's happy being the best unmarried Auntie she can to all the kids.

Will def appear later in the "Monkey King and the Infant"-verse as Red's fave Auntie. Once PIF has "picked up" (read: kidnapped) Red back from the Southern Seas, Jade is immediately called in for babysitting backup.

She and Macaque became friends again on accident while working at the theatre together. She's part of the costume and makeup department, and it took them a few crossed paths to finally recognise one another. She is def partially to blame for Red's flair for dramatics.

Has a particular grudge against Zhu Bajie for whacking her with the rake. Has a nasty scar that starts on the back of her head down to her shoulder blades from the fight. Was extremely cold towards Pigsy before she realised (very embarassed) that he was just Bajie's decendant.

Initially disliked Sun Wukong when they reunited, but quickly it became clear that the the two's more loud, reckless natures bounced off one another. Are rivals for the title of "Best Babysitter".

Spoils baby MK and the other kids rotten. Doesn't matter if the baby is a mystic monkey, dragon, cat demon, human, or demon bull calf; baby is baby.

Takes an obscene amount of luggage with her no matter where she goes. Is "hairdryer in her purse" kind of prepared.

Yips when she's excited/happy. Also chirps in response to Baby MK's monkey chirping. The language crossover of fox and monkey sounds is surprising.

Voice claim: Diane Morgan/Philomena Cunk. She has a softer British accent compared to her related demon niblings. Red Son may or may not have developed his accent from her.

Gosh I love weird women characters.

YING JIAO YUE… 🌑

I’ll write down Jiao Yue’s background and abilities! (Warning: May contain spoilers!)

Background:

Jiao Yue is a half-human and half-senri. A senri is a chinese mythological leaopard cat spirit who’s capable of turning to a human and consuming human souls.

Her father is pure human and her mother is half-senri (wherein Jiao Yue’s grandmother is a full senri).

Abilities:

Here’s all of her abilities!…

Glamour- She uses her energy to hide her cat ears and two cat tails to blend in with the public crowd.

Advanced Hearing and Sharp Eyesight- Her cat ears enables her to listen to her surroundings that’s within 8 meters in diameter. She also has advanced eyesight, making her see in the dark like a nocturnal and can see through glamour/magic similar to MK’s gold vision.

Enhanced Strength- Without her glamour, she has fangs and claws. She can break bones by biting and break through the door by her claws. But her most strongest part would be her legs. Her muscular strength is at its most when she kicks, and she could practically knock down a whole building by kicking. She can also jump as high as 20-40ft tall.

Speed and Flexibility- She’s 4x faster than her average speed, making her faster than Macaque, but not faster than Nezha. She can also go through very narrow paths and can pass through obstacles in ease (like lazers or sharp pointy things at walls).

Fast Regeneration- She can take damage specially from far-range attacks. Though she can heal herself as fast as 2-3 seconds but has limited use. For instance, in a fight, she can heal her injuries 2 times only and any more than that will require her to rest for hours/days depending on the wound.

The following abilities are spoilers to my current comic!

Dark Energy/Spirit Manipulation- Similar to Lady Bone Demon, Jiao Yue also has her own ability to manipulate the souls she took. The difference may only be that LBD has a light blue hue while Jiao Yue’s purple.

Shapeshifting- Just like Macaque’s & MK’s Kaiju form and Mei’s Dragon form, Jiao Yue has her cat beast form which will be revealed in season 3. (I will make a reference sheet for this soon!)

Illusion- In close-range attacks, she can lock her opponents in an illusion. Imagine Yin & Jin’s calabash and Macaque’s shadow abilities, she can trick people into making them believe in her illusions. Also, one of her good ol’ tricks that her ancestors use is to seduce their prey like Spider Queen & Scorpion Demon.

Puppetry- At season 3, Jiao Yue gets possessed by Lady Bone Demon. She gains the ability to use the souls she’s taken to her own puppets. But she can’t possess other people’s body like Lady Bone Demon, she could still control her puppets just like Macaque’s shadow clones, Lady Bone Demon’s bone ghosts and the scrolls’s ink creations.

Immortality- Yes, she’s immortal. Well, not 5x immortal like Sun Wukong.. but she’s still immortal. She’s half-human so she can still take damage and get severely injured.
