Now that Ghibli's new movie is coming out soon, I've been thinking about anime films and wanna talk about my favorite animated movie ever, Tokyo Godfathers.
TG is a 2003 tragicomedy by Satoshi Kon, following three unhoused people––an alcoholic, a runaway girl, an a trans woman––who find a baby in a dumpster and set off across Tokyo to reunite her with her parents.
If you like the sound of that, go watch it because the rest of this post is spoilers and I have FEELINGS about this movie.
URGHH, the fact that only two moments of true kindness, generosity, and care given to the three protagonists without any expectation of reciprocity are given by a Latin-American immigrant couple and a drag show club full of trans women. The fact that, despite her loud and dramatic personality, Hana is the glue that holds the team together and the heart of the whole movie. The fact that this movie pulls no punches at showing the violence and inhumanity committed by "civilized Japanese society" against the unhoused. The fact that Miyuki craves to be loved by her parents and ends up seeing Hana as her true mother. The fact that Miyuki starts off accidentally using transphobic language against Hana, but slowly begins calling her "Miss Hana" out of respect. The fact that, according to Kon, Hana's role in the story is as a mythological trickster god and "disturb the morality and order of society, but also play a role in revitalizing culture." The fact that Hana so desperately wants to be part of a true family, yet is willing to sacrifice her found family so they can be with their own, and is rewarded for her good deeds in the end by becoming a godmother. The fact that, throughout the movie, wind and light have been used to signify the presence of god's hand/influence (this movie's about nondenominational faith––faith in yourself, faith in others, faith in a higher power. Lots of religious are referenced, such as Buddhism/Hinduism, Christianity, and Shintoism), and in the climax of the film, as Hana jumps off a building to save a baby that isn't hers, a gust of wind and a shower of light save her from death. The fact that god saves a trans woman's life because she proved herself a mother, and that shit makes me CRY.

Prompt 168
So. Apparently halfas are like phoenixes or something, which Danny would’ve really liked to know.
See, usually with ghosts if they’re forced to retreat to their cores they reform as was, but apparently, since they’re still partially living, schrodinger's people and all that, halfas have to regrow their body from scratch. At least that’s what he’s understanding from Frostbite.
But how come he has to deal with it? It’s Dan’s fault for trying to pull such a stunt! Oh, it’s either him or Vlad? Well fuck, he might have calmed down and is going to therapy in both the living realm and the Zone, but he’s waaay not equipped to raise a child except for like, monetarily wise.
Well dammit, how long will this core incubation thing last, he has his new job in… let him check which offer he accepted again… He has his new job in Coast City that he needs to finish packing for and then all the rest of the stuff to do.
What do you mean it’ll take months?! He doesn’t have months?! Urgh, fine. At least being a mortician isn’t that exciting, nor dangerous. Just hand him Dan’s core and he’ll figure things out for the living side of things. He’s sure Tucker and Sam wouldn’t be against helping, if only to try and claim favorite aunt or uncle spots.

How was Dead Reckoning?
Look it's REALLY good fun and this coming from someone who despises Tom Cruise. It'll definitely be going into rotation with my comfort films. Hayley's character is DELIGHTFUL and I love her comedic timing and expressions. Also she wears a variety of suits and vests and looks incredible the entire movie here let me show you
Oh but also cannot forget Pom Klementieff looking wonderfully extra af
See also, Vanessa Kirby:
See also Rebecca Ferguson:
basically everyone in this movie is hot except tom go watch it

Sixty five million years off
I. Love. This. Episode. I think of all the eps this one makes everyone eat their words the most with Shawns prediction. Lassie, juliet, chief vick, henry, gus, and even Shawn was a little like wait, i was right? I eat that shit up, yum yum yum!
It is insane the teacher praised Shawn for his project. He taped a toy dinosaur to a remote control car and that receives a 👌 when Gus built this amazing dinosaur head?? I think this is the beginning of them showing how Gus is substance over style and Shawn is style over substance (though in this case Gus clearly got both). Which i think ill talk more about later.
Im adding artistic talent to Shawns list of mystery talents. He did this in <5 minutes (also genuinely impressed by whoever did draw this)
Its such a small thing, but it was nice that Shawn was protective of the dino head because he knows it means a lot to Gus. He just sounded so genuinely concerned that it maintain its integrity.
It’s a little contradictory for shawn to be like i know theres a pattern to these dig locations because i know archaeologists, and act flabbergasted that Gus knows you can’t fill a hole for the same reason. At some point im going to discuss Shawns previous jobs and my own headcanons for some of his history, even though the writers pretty much used them as a mcguffin whenever they need him to know something specific (like what t-rex teeth puncture wounds look like).
Shawn will say two things about someone and then they’re friends. This psychiatrist was like yes i am stressed, you know me so well! Would you like to get a coffee? He does this with a lot of ppl and ill probably discuss more later, but this psychiatrist jumped on board immediately haha
And Henry really had to eat shit this ep lol but he deserved it. He initially told the psychiatrist that shawn was delusional and at the end, essentially said, you’re making cops look bad and that hurts my feelings. Somewhere in the middle is a vague hint of concern for shawns safety (which even Chief Vick had to tsk at him for). Love the psychiatrist calling him out for being a control freak, even though it was probably unethical to be like, surprise bitch! This is your therapy session! (Heres a grown man throwing a fit lol)
That little hug between juliet and lassiter 🥹🥹 mind you, this is S2E2. Juliet and Lassie have known each other less than a year. Besties for life right here
P.S This makes me flinch in sympathetic pain every time

Could you possibly do an essay on the Mario and Luigi reunion from the movie? It’s such a beautiful moment 🥺
There is very little I can say that has not been said already, but doggone it I'm gonna SAY IT ANYWAY.
All images are taken from this post: X
They're so happy. Luigi's smile is not only the first time he's genuinely smiled since his capture, but the biggest smile of the film. He looks like he's about to explode from joy.
He has gone through hell. Everything for the past few days has been mayhem, misery, and confusion, and throughout it all Mario has been on the forefront of his mind. Luigi's heard word of his big brother traveling with a princess, but that's all. But now, seconds from a horrible demise, Mario swoops down out of nowhere and plucks him from the jaws of death.
Mario lands, putting his little brother down on safe terrain. Luigi still wears that giant, "oh my God I can't believe this is actually happening" grin. Mario clutches his heart like it's about to burst, and immediately goes in to hug Luigi like they've never hugged before.
Mario is audibly on the verge of tears. Everything he's done throughout the film has been an effort to get here. He has broken into a royal palace, threatened a princess, angrily confronted a king, fought a gorilla, burst out of the gullet of a giant eel and battled his way through hoards of Koopa Troopers, all so he can see his brother again. And now his brother is here, and he's okay.
Is Luigi okay? Mario has heard terrible things about Bowser. He had barely arrived in time to rescue Luigi from falling to his death. He cups Luigi's face in his hands, presses their foreheads together, looks deep into his eyes. He has to know this is real, that they are here... that Luigi is okay despite all odds.
The euphoria overwhelms him. Mario goes in for a second hug, shaking his brother and picking his him off the ground, confirming that Luigi is, in fact, standing in front of him.
At last, he is satisfied enough to set his brother down. He's still looking at him with some sense of disbelief as Luigi lets out a heavy sigh; days of dread and anxiety, released. Big brother is here. Everything's going to be alright.
Immediately, Luigi falls into his old role of verbal reassurance. Out of both genuine confusion and a desire to comfort his sibling he starts teasing.
"Mario, why are you dressed like a bear? What is this!?"
Mario smiles wide. He doesn't know how to explain it, he hasn't really questioned anything so long as it brought him one step closer to reuniting with Luigi.
But yeah... now that he brings it up, it is all kind of weird isn't it.
