Why Do I Focus on Food as an Herbalist? | Sidewalk Chemistry
This is one of the manners in which I love working with the plants the most, because you can make your medicine literal tastiness (I don't like to subject myself or anyone else to yucky spoonfuls, hard-to-swallow pills, or any other uncomfortable ways towards healing). Also, this way is an easy way to encourage others into self-care.

Catch me leaning over the sink greedily ripping into the ripest nectarine I have ever eaten like the gals in Yellow Jackets wolfing down Jackie's slow roasted BBQ Corpse Combo meal.

Seasonal Eating
So something I'm trying this winter is seasonal eating.
Now you may ask - what is that? it's eating produce that are normally eaten this time of year, either because this is when they are harvested or this is the best time to store them. Winters are usually a time when more red meat is eaten, as well, because farmers/neighbors would cull the herd in the fall and freeze the meat over the winter or certain hunting seasons would be in October/November, thus venison would be stored over the winter.
My personal research shows our bodies used to have a circadian rhythm with seasons (just like days/nights). We used to sleep longer in the winter and be more active in the summer. Our diets used to be based on this has well. We didn't have groceries stores with the same produce year round. We had farmers markets and ate what was harvested at that time for that region. (No shipping folks!). Thus we ate more variety throughout the year.
So cold weather food - root veggies (carrots/potatoes), leafy greens (lettuces) and cold fruit (apples). It's not easy going this route when shopping in a grocery store. It's so easy to grab those strawberries, grapes, and peppers to munch on. (This is based on North America/southern region)
My two dishes thus far following this path have been vegetable beef soup and roasted root vegetables that consisted of potatoes, carrots, and turnips. I found it best to include turnips with potatoes because they have similar color and texture. This is a perfect camouflage for my visually picky eaters in the house.
Winter dishes are usually heavy in nature like soups and casseroles because a warm kitchen is a warm house. Summer dishes are usually light and refreshing as well as quick to cook - don't want a hot kitchen in the hot summer months! The in-between seasons - Spring/Autumn are transitional periods of the upcoming season - so Spring will move to summer foods and Autumn will move to the winter foods and you may be overlapping the foods of the two seasons.
As always, this is based on my personal research/experiences and what I feel is right for my body and my family. I grew up with small gardens and we, as a family, ate more seasonally; this was also for cost effective reasons on the grocery bill. I now live in the southern region of the United States and have based my findings on where I live.
Blessed Be!

Seasonal Produce in Southern California
INTRODUCTION I grew up on what is what one could possibly describe as a “gentleman’s farm.” Not that we ever referred to it as such. I’d never heard that term as a kid — and my mom, who ran show, would’ve no doubt rejected the title of “gentleman.” My mother also might’ve objected to characterizing her operation as a farm. She was raised on a proper farm, after all — one with hundreds of acres…

There’s something so beautiful about the conversation right after the kiss. In the way that we all know this moment’s huge for Buck, but Tommy takes the lead, doesn’t let him spiral, or overthink, or be nervous about what it means. Tommy keeps him grounded, invites him out, tells him about his shift. He touches him, straightening his shirt, which is such an ‘earth to Buck’ kinda moment. It’s so soft ???

Happy Veganuary!! ☺️🌍💚
Is there anyone eating vegan for January, or new at eating more/all plant foods? Gentle reminder that you're always welcome to ask me for any advice.
I have been vegan for hm nearly 10 years now! I just realized how long it's been upon typing this. I eat as nutritionally dense & gut-healthy as I can and I'm not too keen on processed & packaged foods. I had my time with those at a teen and all because that's what I knew (I didn't have deep enjoyment with my food back then). But now that I know better and do better (and want better!), I definitely understand food and nourishment in a new way that brings me peace and joy. It's become the best act of self-love (and by default, earth love) that I perform.

One thing that keeps confusing me is that they claim ghost files costs several hundreds of thousands of dollars per season. I’ve tried to wrap my head around this ever since the announcement because flying a crew of 6 or so people out for two days and renting out the location COULD NOT be costing that much unless they’re either lying or blowing money on first class flights and expensive food/accommodations and even THEN do I not see them breaking 100k on a single episode. Dear lord hire an accountant I’m half convinced someone’s laundering money

Sorry english people, but what follows is too french an opinion to voice in english (I'll sum it up for u in the end <3)
(And words of wisdom from my evil advisor @quijicroix : légende vivante (de Lorenzo) ça va avec tout.
Welcome back english people ! To sum it up : la vie en rose is a french song for tourists that set up a fight or flight reaction in every native speaker. I'm glad people enjoyed this, but I cannot describe the cringe and disappointment I felt when they decided to have him sing this song- (even tho he sings it beautifully (which is part of the disappointment))
They are SO MUCH love songs in french, why this one.
PS : at this point (ep7) I don't know why Stede is still bothering with Ed "I'm hitting the banks didn't tell him which one" teach, when Izzy hands is right there ????? Sir please open your eyes
