- she pampers you heaps, maybe like one would do to their pet however. She would find food for you to eat, obviously you can’t eat the same things as her so she has to go out often to find stuff for you. In any other universe you’d find the food she gives you to be disgusting and revolting, but since you were used to the harsh (and alternate) world you were in- it was actually like eating a meal at a five star restaurant.

- In that universe food for everyone is scarce and what food that’s left for humans is normally rotted or doesn’t exist anymore. The food that exists in that universe now is stuff like rats/mice that you were lucky to find, and water which you’d have to manually filter the gross stuff out of. If you didn’t, you’d get sick, and with the universe being the way it was- there’d be no medicine to help if you got sick. And you’d probably die.

- speaking on that- Marceline also forces lowly vampires to get you food as well, she will check that it is not suspicious in any way before letting you eat it though. And if she finds something that looks somewhat off? Like maybe a bruise on some fruit, or a slight discolouration to meat, they will be met with an instant death. A snap to the neck before she rips their head off. No one will harm you.

- the king doesn’t love your relationship all that much, finds that you’re a nuisance. In all honesty he’s very worried that you may soften Marceline too much, but that’s actually not true at all. In fact you’d brought something new out of her, with the way she would instantly kill anyone and anything for you.

- the two of you fell in love one day by accident actually, the two of you were just around the same area at the same time. She was soaring above the skies and spotted you, flying down at you like a hawk and about to quickly eat you.

- somehow she didn’t, you don’t really know for sure why she didn’t but when she finally came down to bite you she just couldn’t. Her eyes met yours, and she hissed right in your face just before she left.

- you saw her again, because this time you just had to. You had to know why she let you go that one time, especially with a reputation of killing every single human she comes into contact with.

- she saw you too, not coming out to talk to you but just letting you stay alive out there. She was getting ready in her mirror, thinking to herself about you as a vein pulsed just above her eyebrow in annoyance. ‘Stupid human, what do they think they’re doing?’

- but again. She found herself letting you live.

- and that’s what kept happening, you’d find ways to run into her and talk with her and she’d actually respond sometimes. Other times she’d hiss and fly away, but the times that she did respond just made your relationship stronger.

- she likes kissing you, everywhere and any time. She likes kissing your lips, your flushed cheeks, your neck- you know you probably shouldn’t let her kiss there. But she adores it. She finds it oh so cute how you’d trust your puny little human life in her hands, oh how easy it’d be to just kill you.. but she doesn’t, she simply pecks the area as she hugs your waist

- most of her minions and just people in general that she just rules over have respect for you, I know I said that a lot would try to eat you but that’s because her people are starving. Some of them can’t help it. But the ones who can show respect to you just as they would for their queen.

- Marceline wishes you were meaner to people, but instead you’re just soft- but whenever you get angry or annoyed at something- oh she’s just fawning over you.

morrigan was actually a pretty amicable baby. very aware. very intelligent. and if they did fuss, the mere sight of marceline was enough to cheer them right up. marcy still taught them how to sing everything stays, though! i like to think simon and marcy are both pretty musical folks, and morrigan was no different.

morrigan really looked up to marceline and wanted to be like her. they loved hearing her stories (especially about the events in obsidian) and marcy loved having someone she could be a mentor figure to. she taught them EVERYTHING she could think of and knew, and absolutely relished in how much morrigan loved her. plus, they got to sass each other as all siblings do. morrigan was a pretty smart kid off the bat and they could bounce off each other for HOURS.

Wow it's been... a while! A huge while actually, gosh. I seriously apologize for making everyone wait so so long for my replies and I thank everyone for being so patient and understanding!

(There really is no excuse but I will offer an explanation at the end of this post as to why it took me so long to get to all my inbox asks! Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding, you have no idea how much I appreciate it. Tysm y'all ;w;!)

"Ice King Identity Crisis AU" Related Asks

What is Ice King and Marcy's relationship like in the AU?

Back when this ask was sent, I was still pondering this deeply. I actually never got around to figuring out how I would approach his reunion with Marceline, because a fellow artist (who does amazing super in-character style-accurate comics) did their own spin on it! *Drumroll* it's EmositeCC (Tumblr | Twitter | YouTube)

And it was so insanely good and in-character and basically the vibe I wanted to go for, I really think it's best I just point you to all the amazing comics they did for my "Ice King Identity Crisis AU"!

Ice King & Marceline Reunion Comic (basically what you are looking for anon!)

Happy Dinner Comic Part 1 and Part 2 (Ice King, Marceline and Betty have a dinner to celebrate Ice King regaining his memories, but the atmosphere is really sour because of Betty and it gets suuuper angsty.)

@golden-buddle I think the above answers I gave to anon your ask as well! Same goes for your question @d3m0l1t10n-lvrs! (how Marceline would react to Ice King's change in this AU), but I'm not sure how the rest of the characters would react, probably with intrigue (I think Finn especially), but that's about it. I haven't thought much about it sadly!

What are Ice King's feelings on Betty and princess kidnapping after he regains his memories?

Honestly a huge appeal for me when I was making this AU is the fact it's kinda meta in a strange way. Making Ice King basically experience the same intense shock that I felt when his backstory first got revealed in the show.

Anyhow, to answer your question anon, in this AU his obsession with princesses really quickly gets transformed into just wanting to be with Betty (now that he knows the reason behind his princess kidnapping in the first place, why would he settle for anyone other than his original princess?). He'd be super obsessed with her obviously (it's Ice King after all), but I do think he'd be more mindful almost? The trauma of her leaving is just too intense even for him, he'd be very scared of it happening again.

Also anon, your question reminded me of a broader theme of this AU. Basically, with his new-found self-awareness (well, memories, he's still silly goofy because he's Ice King), I feel like stuff that used to make Ice King very happy or gave his life meaning as Ice King would become very tainted for him in a way. Obviously, the princess kidnapping is the clearest example of this, but everything else too. Like how does one process that everything you do, every interest that brings you joy is just a distorted lesser version of what you used to be able to do (example: Simon used to write scholarly books and Ice King writes fanfiction with extremely childish plots and spelling mistakes)? It's heartbreaking.

Would Ice King ever go to Prismo to make his own wish in an attempt to alter Betty's?

Omg I love the idea of calling the AU the Ice-dentity Crisis AU that's so clever!!!

I definitely played around with this idea! Both ideas I mean! (Ice King wishing to become Simon seems like a good ending for the AU and Ice King wishing to forget again seems like peak angst potential).

Honestly, this asked reminded me of how I always kinda wished back when the original AT series was coming out that Ice King ended up being the one to cure himself, as in- I wished becoming Simon was his own decision (in a goofy Ice King way of course). Ice King's arc in the original show suffers from a lack of agency he's given within his own narrative. While I do get what the show was going for completely, it does annoy me a little. Ice King had his own character arc throughout the original series but never a character arc conclusion, he just became Simon again on accident without having any say in it. Don't get me wrong, of course Ice King becoming Simon again is a good thing! However, writing wise, I would have preferred he decided that for himself (as a conclusion to his character arc). That would be hard to write though, Ice King is a very insane character so figuring out how to write him of all people having enough self-awarness to make such a huge decision would def be hard. But it's possible!!

Anyhow back to your question- yes I though about both possibilities! However, this AU was never meant to be an actual project I was gonna work on. More like a sandbox I can play around in when I feel like it. In short, I never had a concrete plan or outline because I never intended this AU to be anything more than something I did for fun when I felt like it. I hope that's not too disappointing T_T!

Would Ice King try to "act like" Simon after regaining his memories?

@altcindy While I don't see Ice King and Simon as separate entities (I see Ice King as who Simon is when driven insane and senile, though of course the Crown does play a part because of the lore, but confession I kinda never liked the Crown lore XD), I do agree Ice King in this AU would react to his newfound memories by trying to act like he did as Simon and failing because Simon is so detached from who he is now.

Would Betty regret the wish she made?

@altcindy Yes, 100% Betty would regret her wish and what she had done. Because Ice King is not vibing, she is not vibing, nobody is vibing. Ok that's a lie, the princesses of OOO are def vibing (Ice King permanently stopped kidnapping yey!) and Marceline is kinda vibing. The thing with Marceline is, she's already used to Ice King and the fact Ice King is very diff from Simon and she loves him even while he's insane and memoryless. To her, Ice King regaining his memories is amazing, so she'd def be happy about it. For Betty it's way harder, because unlike Marceline who saw Simon's progression into Ice King, Betty only knew Ice King and Simon sepperate, hence why I think she can't really process them being the same person (emotionally I mean, obviously she knows they are). If anything, once Ice King starts trying to "act like Simon", Betty feels even more like she's living in a funhouse mirror version of her old life.

Does Ice King remember his other Ice King related memories too? How does he remember everything photographically now?

Ok so, in the AU itself I wasn't super clear about the wording in Betty's wish. If hypothetically, I were to ever write a fanfic about this, I would reword her wish to go something like this:

"I wish to alter the Crown's curse so that Ice King, also known as Simon Petrikov, is able to regain all the memories the Crown took from him in the past or tries to take from him in the future"

Basically, so he remembers things normally. In my original AU posts, the way I worded Betty's wish almost makes it sound like Ice King will now have super photographic memory of everything that has happened or will happened to him, but nope! In the AU he just remembers things normally. Y'know, like other really old immortal characters like Marceline and PB (the most impactful memories being the most vivid and all). So his memories of being Ice King would stay, but he'd probably forget a lot of them mostly because his days as Ice King kinda blend into each other (because they are the same old same old). He'd remember stuff that made an impact on him or that was important to him though. Like human memories usually work!

When's the next update?

To answer the question @gremlin-in-your-gears and anons, I sadly do not know when the next update will be (or if there will be one)! I said this a few times throughout this post, but when I make fandom related projects like these, I never go into them as an actual commitment. My fandom shenanigans are just me having fun XD, not really serious projects. Whenever my interest in a hyperfixation dies down, I tend to put any fandom related project I had for it on hold. So it's not canceled, but also don't expect updates! If they ever come back it'll be when I get super hyperfixated on AT again! I'm sorry if this is super disappointing T_T, but again, fandom stuff is for having fun/relaxing for me, I don't want it to become a source of stress.

To answer your question, yes Betty would try!! But try and fail kinda, it's tough for her and she's a very stubborn, easily frustrated character (especially since she is currently Magic Betty and all that).

I sadly do not have concrete plans for this AU! I always treat my fandom shenanigans as something I do for fun and not really serious projects I plan on committing to! So this AU was mostly a sandbox for me to play in, I'm sorry, I hope that's not too disappointing T_T!!!

How do I feel about my Ice King obsession finally being validated?

My middle school comic where I shipped myself with Ice King

Ok so confession... The comic isn't actually a selfship comic. I kinda exaggerated the truth XD

For those unaware, back when I was 11, I made one of those "I got Isekai'd to Adventure Time!" comics. It was about me (and my younger siblings) getting transported into the land of OOO and meeting all the characters. It was very goofy, not a super serious comic. I never finished it (me? not finishing something? some things never change I guess LOL!), but in the comic every time I would meet an AT character I'd fangirl. When Ice King finally appeared in the comic I was fangirling like CRAZY. Here's my fave page from the comic:

I wanted to make a video talking about this comic for years but I never got around to it. But when that happens y'all will finally see the full comic! Though don't get too excited, I've been meaning to do this since like 2018 and still haven't gotten around to it LOL.

My thoughts on Lemongrab

I know I haven't drawn him in years and definitely haven't posted any art I did of him, however I love Lemongrab. Unironically adore him. Not even because he's funny, and I find his relationship with PB super interesting (her being both his creator but also neglectful/uncaring mother figure I said what I said). He's my autism king, I love him dearly.

Two art tutorial related questions I've received

To answer your question @v0gons , the truth is, I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to comic compositions and paneling. The best I can tell you is that if you are doing a vertical scroll comic, I recommend making the panels go zig-zag. (if the first panel is on the right side of a comic page, the next should be on the left side of the page and then it would repeat in a zigzag fashion, making it all flow really well. that's basically how I do it!) That's about it rly! Oh and for comics that you plan to post on social media like Tumblr/Instagram/Twitter I also recommend limiting yourself to only 2-3 panels per page. I mostly do that so they are all big and easy to read and understand what's going on (legible).

Also, to answer your question Anon, I sadly don't rly wanna do this T_T. I'm sorry! The best I can recommend is watching Simon-related episodes from the show and taking a bunch of screenshots so you have a lot of references of his hair from different angles. Feel free to trace over them to learn how the shapes work, but of course- only do that during the learning stage. Tracing is generally considered acceptable but only if it's done for learning purposes and not posted publicly (unless you are given permission). I'm sure you'll figure out how to draw his hair if you follow these steps! Good luck!

Why it took me so long to answer (and why it might happen again)

I guess I should explain myself! I have periods (usually around early winter) where I become extremely drained. Like, girlrotting in bed all day not wanting to leave the house, drained. This affects my productivity and social life both online and irl! I finally started getting my social life truly back on track in February.

What does this have to do with answering asks? Well, considering I struggle with answering messages my own friends and even business emails during periods like these, the same applies to smaller stuff just on a way more extreme level, (like answering asks I get in my inbox here on Tumblr or just replying to things ppl say on my social media posts in general). In general I'm not the best at doing stuff on time, but I have seasonal periods where I am especially prone to procrastination.

All in all, this really doesn't justify my lateness but I still wanted to explain it (very YouTuber apology of me to say, I know), I hope you can understand and forgive me! I will try my best not to let it happen to this extent again, but sadly I can't promise because I know myself well enough to be aware this will likely happen again T_T!

And with that I am finally done answering all the asks I received on my main blog (well nearly all, I got a few non-asks which were just a single word and I don't even know how to respond to those LOL so I won't)! I still have to answer the remaining asks I have on my sideblog, however WOOO I did it! Took me months but I truly did it!

So Fionna and Cake was definitely a show I wasn't expecting to see when it got announced, and even less in the way it got delivered. Originally I thought they would stuck out with what we had seen so far in Adventure Time which is to say classical AT fun loving stories but with female Finn and cat Jake, which I would have been perfectly fine with.

But man, man. What ended up being delivered really was something I wasn't expecting but I'm really happy we got that, specially when it comes to separating Fionna from Finn and making her into her own person instead of a carbon copy of him except female and of course then there's Simon.

Simon has been an important character from the moment of his reveal as the former identity of the Ice King and being a huge plot device for some of the most hard hitting moments of the show, but besides that we have had barely seen anything of Simon as anything separate from the crown.

So being able to see how he's dealing with not just having his sanity back, but also having to adjust to an insane world where even the humans are so different from someone from the 20th century and his loss of Betty who sacrificed herself so he would be back as himself, and needless to say... My man's going through it.

He doesn't fit in, he doesn't have a purpose, his fiance is GONE, and he's constantly being reminded of his time as Ice King. Dude's fucking depressed and his coping mechanisms are destroying him and sending him further to the edge.

If you see him turning his life into a time capsule exhibition for the other humans, it's obvious he keeps idolizing a time that he cannot return to, he's stuck and hasn't been able to MOVE ON. So by the time he meets Fionna and Cake and finally decides to help them, he's pretty much using that as an excuse to sacrifice himself and use the crown and the Ice King by extension as a form of escapism. And the thing is, even with the crown the Ice King was MISSERABLE in what little moments of lucidity he had and we got to see that multiple times throughout the show.

While we got to see Fionna grow more as a person and accepting her world for what it is, we also get a LOT from Simon and the multiple foils het gets throughout the show, with Farmworld Finn who managed to regain his sanity (and being severely traumatized from the experience) doing what he can to move on and live in the moment via tending his own family and cherishing what little he has left of his late wife, even if he's still not okay he's doing his best, to the Winter King who refused to move on and instead decided to ignore the problem, forget about Betty and live through his own selfishness while hurting the Candy Kingdom and Princess Bubblegum (dude created an Ice Marceline who remained a kid, that's not healthy,) culminating in how Simon's influence affected those around him with Marceline from the Vampire World being a completely evil and sadistic person who relishes in the thrill of causing fear to her victims and finally culminating in The Lich whom after achieving his goal of eliminating all life of Ooo became a shell of his own self after finally losing his one goal.

But the thing is, Simon is an incredibly nice man, he just has a problem where he fails to see his own failings unless it's spelled out to him, which is why GolBetty becomes important to the final part of his overall arc.

Simon and Betty had a sincerely loving relationship, they were happy with each and it's so easy to see how much they love each other by the way they mourn, protect, care about one another and even when they talk about their past together you can see that love and while it's beautiful... It's also unhealthy, not toxic, just unhealthy.

They weren't equal to one another and we can see that with Simon being already a researcher whom Betty admires while she's only a student. They were not on the same level from day one and while Betty was brilliant and could have had an amazing future, she sacrificed her dreams for Simon and he was not aware of that. They keep feeding into each other's worst traits without knowing, but it's not like it was a bad relationship it was a good one, a genuinely good relationship with bad sides that neither party was aware of.

And sometimes that's what it is, it's not a bad experience, it was a good experience just not a healthy one.

And that's what Simon needs to realize to let Betty go, sure they loved each other and still do, but their decisions were made and now they have to accept those decisions and move on, and to Betty who by this point is a literal god of chaos, she has lived in a state where time is nonexistent and doesn't move the same for her so to her she has made amends with everything and now all she can do is to finally have a moment of closure with Simon, a moment where they both can give their goodbyes to the other and continue on with life. It's not easy, it's hard and it hurts, but it's the best thing to do for themselves.

In the end it was all experience, a good experience that meant everything and they can look back to with the same amount of love and care.

No but like seriously for real the gumlee confrontation+kiss scene being accented by the vamp world bubbline DOUBLE SUICIDE SCENE??? HOLY SHIT DUDE. And like you expect it to cut back at the end and for marcy to save them last moment BUT IT CUTS TO BLACK. "TOGETHER, THEN" DUDE. DUDE. I'm going insane w how much mileage they're getting out of different aus for one couple.

Mary's fate in this universe is so heartbreaking to me given everything we know about her. How easy it must have been to manipulate her as a lost and scared hurt little girl trying to survive after a nuclear war. She didn't have anyone good in her life for her at all. Only VK and, as Simon says, he's a bad dad. And that's why she ended up... Like that. But I think it's also so clear she was in love with Bonnie in a fucked up and codependent enemies kind of way, maybe she's like the realest thing to her. And I think the same goes vice versa too, both refusing to outright kill the other. But the only way Marcy was even really allowed to act on this is through playing the role VK set for her, keeping Bonnie alive through the excuse that she's toying with her (and I do think she enjoyed doing so). And I think at the end of the day they both knew how pointless it all was, how nothing they're doing now really matters and that there's no true escape. It's mutually assured destruction, the humans will all die and the vampires will all starve. This is the place they're headed. Once again Marceline is witnessing a world that will kill the world, once again she's caught in the cycle, once again everything stays. Does she remember that song too? Does she realize the irony? Does she also sing it to herself sometimes? Everything stays but it still changes. Even in another world with entirely different more fucked up circumstances Bonnie and Marcy fall in love. And they chose to die together, even as the worst of enemies. This is possibly Marceline' s first true act of rebellion too, the way she's sticking it to her vamp dad. They probably both understood at the end. "Together then?" I'm going to be sick

jkdfgdjfkg yeah im gonna focus on the fionna + cake aspects since thats what i posted but if you wanna know about someone else send a followup!! i have the strongest ideas for marceline and more scattered thoughts on everyone else but!! i turn this around in my head a lot lol.

under the cut bc i am incapable of being short

so. the reason fionna world is Like It Is despite nominally being a human au is bc i decided that in ooo, humans are the only people with daemons! everyone else has Something Else, but that something else isnt actually a daemon (this bit is still fuzzy lol since it would just be more bg in anything i write).

so that means the only characters in adventure time who have/had a daemon are finn (tossing around the name honey for her?? shes unsettled but mostly dogs bc they grew up with dogs lol), marceline (she lost her daemon upon becoming a vampire, gets her back at the end of stakes. do not ask me what she is settled as idk as of now lol), and simon (lost her upon becoming ice king, he does Not get her back. i think its fun if she is a penguin bc that makes ice king surrounding himself w penguins super tragic. he knows something is gone but cannot articulate what.)

also i guess people like susan strong and the humans on the human island but shhhh i dont have super strong ideas for them lol.

ALL THAT TO SAY. since fionnaworld was created by prismo (gonna be real idk what his deal is but he is obviously His Own Thing and as a deity type deal he probably is granted w 'can see dust' powers and thus has no idea what daemons are all about) and lives in ice kings/later simons head (one who doesnt know about daemons and one who is mourning the permanent loss of his own) when fionna and cake were "created" finn jake and finn's daemon were mashed into two characters, who are! human and daemon.

everyone else either never had a daemon in normal ooo (ex. pb) or didnt have them at the time fionnaworld was created and thus they werent carried over (ex. marceline.) of everyone tho probably marshall WOULD know the most, this is why he has a line in my fic where he's like, do you know what i'd do for a weird cat? as a sort of hint that he SHOULD have a daemon, but. alas.

uhhh. where am i going with this.

OH RIGHT so yeah basically when fionnaworld became de-magicked it took with it a lot of people's points of connection--everyone ends up way more isolated than they were. since simon is mourning his own daemon that translates to daemons just Not Existing, and so fionna and cake are very much isolated from each other. they dont have the words for their relationship. all fionna knows is she needs cake with her, and vice versa.

cake IS still a daemon, but without that framework shes stuck in the 'normal cat' role even though she does a lot of noncatlike things, n her and fionna are very very good still at sorta knowing what the other is thinking and reacting accordingly. the people closest to fionna (so, really just marshall and gary lol) have SOME idea of what is up but if asked its more leftover instinct than like, the ability to actually explain any of this. fionna and cake try to interact w the world as a human-daemon pair but that doesnt work when the world has no fucking idea what that is.

uh. that. probably answers some question!! i think the plot of fionna and cake itself is MOSTLY the same...really fionna and cake just find out there is a word for who they are to each other n get that relationship reestablished which isnt a far cry from canon. i really like the stuff they do with betty/simon so i wouldnt want to change that, though i imagine there is a bit of simon mourning his lost daemon too--idk i feel like you could tie those feelings in if you were to write a full adaptation but i!! dont think enough changes to do that so i wont be lol.

i mostly just wanted to do episode one bc again. daemon in a world that doesnt know wtf a daemon is. truly the funniest and most tragic thing in the world.

The reason why I'm equal parts excited and nervous for the Fionna and Cake miniseries is because this is going to actually canonize the lore of The Fionna and Cake universe:

So it's got me very curious...

What are they going to keep and what are they going to throw out?

While Ice King was receiving information about Fionna and Cake during sleep, anything he says about them will be wildly incorrect because the crown distorts his mind. I mean... he literally thinks Fionna would be into him, so he's clearly not a reliable source of information about her and her universe.

Would they keep Marshall Lee's, Gumball's, and Fionna's dynamic the way it was presented in Bad Little Boy and the Fionna and Cake comics [the ones that were written and illustrated by Natasha Allegri] or would they throw it out completely because this information doesn't come from "reliable sources".

Bad Little boy was basically Marceline's Finnceline propaganda a Marceline episode w hich gave us a deeper look into how Marceline views her relationship with Finn, Finn's relationship with PB, and her relationship with PB.

The FAC comics illustrated and written by Natasha Allegri were a continuation of Bad Little Boy BUT these comics were Gunther's Fionna/Marshall Lee/Gumball OT3 fanfics.

All the information we have about Fionna and Cake come from in universe fanfic... technically, none of it is true to the FAC universe - every Fionna and Cake story is told by an Adventure Time character, so they are all unreliable sources of information for the FAC universe.

So what do you do?

Do you throw out all the Fionna and Cake information that came before the miniseries since none of it is technically canon? Do you really throw out the most popular Fionna and Cake episode and well received comics because they're told by characters who wouldn't be able to see into the FAC universe? Or do you use these dynamics but create completely different backstories for the characters?

Fionna doesn't actually have to meet Marshall Lee and Gumball the same way Finn did - she doesn't even need to be the same age as Finn when she meets them. She could meet them when she's older [like 17-18 years old], since she's going to be a young adult in this new show... I mean why wouldnt she be a young adult... in a show aimed at young adults...

I just dont see them copying and pasting Adventure Time into Fionna and Cake. This new universe gives them a chance to explore new dynamics and ideas they wouldn't have been able to in Adventure Time.

Then there's taking the shipping into account... how do you tackle this monstrosity without pissing too many people off? Fiolee and Gumlee are BOTH very popular pairings, so how would you go about presenting these pairings in this alternate universe?

A thing people dont really realize is that Fionna and Marshall Lee could be a possibility because they're going to have different backstories from Finn and Marceline. Again, it would be boring as fuck to just do Adventure Time a second time - they're going to give these characters different backstories and they're going to meet each other under different circumstances.

As for Gumballs and Fionna's relationship... it might not be as creepy as Finn's and PB's relationship. They would not be able to get away with the creepy shit they pulled with PB and Finn', because people are going to see the red flags right away. People didnt notice the red flags with Finn and PB because we're not used to seeing older women creep on and exploit boys/young men nearly as much as we see older men creep on and exploit girls/young women. And again, it would be boring to to the same thing AT did with Finn and PB.

Oh wait...

Okay I know how they're going to tackle the shipping issue, and I dont really like it because I think it's spineless: Since this is a multi-universe adventure they are going to make different relationships canon in other universes. This will prevent fans from flipping their shit TOO MUCH and the writers can have their cake and eat it too.

Based on the summaries of the show I just dont see Marshall Lee or Gumball helping Simon, Fionna and Cake. First of all, that is way too many characters to manage. Secondly, based on this part of the summary:

Fionna and Cake with the help of the former Ice King, Simon Petrikov embark on a multiverse-hopping adventure and journey of self-discovery.

The multiverse is going to be used as a way to develop Fionna. I mean.... it's been a hot minute since ive watched Adventure Time but Im pretty sure Simon isnt going on a journey of self discovery. This show is targeted at young adults... Simon isnt a young adult so i dont know why the story will be focused on him... if anything he's going to be the character who will offer Fionna guidance.

But yeah... the multiverse is the perfect opportunity to explore different pairings and ideas they wouldnt be able to do in a single story. So I dont see why they wouldnt use it to it's fullest potential.

I wrote most of this several hours ago and just barely edited it lol so hope it makes sense! Added some spaces which probably doesn’t help a whole lot lol it’s… very long. Thanks for asking!!!! You don’t have to read it all hshbdnnrns

This one is actually probably p nonviolent bc I don’t think this is a very controversial take round these parts! But definitely all of Finn’s romantic plot lines. I can sort of make an argument abt how they reflect the part of his character that’s really invested in the fairytale idea of being a hero which implies being the romantic lead

(I lean toward hcing him as aroace but don’t feel super strongly abt it, but that or gay or otherwise not into women also adds a comphet element— regardless it’s an interesting parallel with lots of characters but in particular Bonnie, who very clearly has lived her life according to rules she gathered and interpreted about who and what a princess is AND what a girl is. Very gendered so for Finn there’s a bit of toxic masculinity involved in his romantic pursuits and also his inclination toward violence in the earlier seasons. Plus the whole overarching theme of rebuilding society post-post-apocalypse and most of the characters kind of forcing themselves into a mold using what they know and don’t know about past societies combined with how their own has interacted w them.

Comphet also obviously parallel with Bonnie continuing to call Mr. CP her boyfriend etc etc etc, but also maybe more relevant— I hc Marceline as bi so I dont think being attracted to men is compulsory for her but still think heteronormativity is very relevant to her story & I think the same would be true for Finn regardless of orientation. Actually very similar for both of them subconsciously recreating heteronormative relationships which are so reflective of their own specific family structures— Marcy drawn to the Hunson in Ash and dare I say the Simon and the Betty AND the Elise in Bonnie? + Finn drawn to both the Minerva and the Margaret in Bonnie and FP and, to an extent, HW too. Caregivers who are also leaders and answer to no one. HW is a little less officially this but I’d argue that as a female character heavily associated with both nature and protection she is inherently at least a little bit mom-adjacent-coded or something idk what I’m saying but yeah that! Digression lol.)

BUT way overdone even if that was the intention. A lot of that time could’ve been spent on him and Jake and BMO doing silly shit or like expanding on his relationships with Jermaine and Margaret and Joshua and Fern and the humans etc etc. and/or more depth for the love interests themselves. Ofc I always want more Bonnie and there’s a lot more to dig into with FP (and the two of them together for that matter!) & also HW has such a cool design and she’s interesting but I feel like I don’t know much about her and had she and Finn had a different relationship there may have been more room for her to develop. It feels like fan service though I’m guessing now it’s not actually in service of most ppl who are still really big fans. Maybe more so network service lol.

Also sad that some of those songs (all gummed up slaps too hard) and episodes are really good/funny imo I wish they were about something else 😭 (too young is extremely important to me I refuse to discount it but I obvs understand why a lot of ppl want to it’s super frustrating/disappointing.)

retching. i feel like i need a rewatch of the whole series of f&c in one go to fully cement my opinion without the weeks worth of 'over' hype and theorizing for the finale eps but at the same time the ending soured me so much do i. do i want to? but also i dont /want/ to dislike this thihng i enjoyed so dearly up to this point. man its so sad. a part of me knew that there's no way the finale could satisfyingly wrap things up in two eps but given how the series had gone on so far, 1/2

Yeah like………. i could tell they were struggling a Little with pacing and being able to fit all the important parts of the story in. ep7 especially like, was a great episode but also some of the plot beats felt like they weren’t built up to properly, or they didn’t linger long Enough on important stuff - like, we only dedicate 2 seconds to the thing abt the star beinf like that bc shes a marceline who didnt have simon…… But i could forgive all that, bc they had a LOT of stuff to fit just into that one episode, and they still hit all the beats they needed to and told a sensible story.

So I thought….. even if they don’t have time to execute the ending perfectly, they can still get their idea across and have everything happen that needs to!

But then they decided to. Like. To some extent tell the wrong story. And DEFINITELY told it badly. There’s good things about the finale episodes, and some of the plot points are What Should Have Happened, but there’s …. just……… Fundamentally they failed to continue telling the same story they had been telling the entire show!!!!!!!!! fionna and cake writers sweeping the subject of simons mental health off the table at the last second to tell a story exclusively about 1 specific aspect of his relationship w betty as if the Life Lesson He’s Learning here has aaaaaaany fucking thing to do with what his story has been about SO far in the series

uuuuuggghhhhh yeah the ending just. soured the whole fucking thing for me. at the same time i still love the first 8 episodes theyre great but theyre better if you don’t know that THAT was what theyre building to. emotionally i dont want to rewatch eps 9&10 in full ever bc the concept of them makes me so upset but also it would be good to revisit the series and look at it from the perspective of knowing what they’re intending to do. i still definitely will never agree with most of the things they did. but i can at least look at it more analytically when im not seeing it for the very first time and dont know where its going. not yet though im still pissed LMAO

His Imperial of Doom

It's 4am and I wrote this on a whim. It's small and quick and not that great, I just wanted to write something angsty with my wife (Simon)

Am I projecting onto him in this? Yes. Yes I am.

Words: 1,748

Doom. Death. Destruction. Or some other terrible fate.

It was a word Simon was all too familiar with. The word and its very definition seemed like it was just constantly looming over his head, over the course of his entire life actually. From being cursed to be the Ice King for a thousand years, losing the love of his life, and now having to live in this new, futuristic Ooo. He didn’t fit in with any of these… New humans. Nobody ever knew what he was talking about, and nobody seemed very interested in whatever it was he was talking about. Despite being surrounded by all of these people, he felt so isolated.

As he walked through the Human City, he moved past all of the other people that lived within the city. They were all so much happier than he was. They were content with what they had. They were able to go about their everyday lives, not questioning a thing, or having to think about “what could have been”. He felt a twinge of jealousy watching all of them. Simon didn’t feel real surrounded by all of them. He just felt like an NPC going through the motions of it all, giving the occasional wave when approached.

But, as of lately, all of his interactions with… Anyone, just felt forced, and robotic. Whether it was forcing a laugh at whatever Finn was talking about so he didn’t suspect anything was wrong with him, or trying to hold a conversation with Marceline. No matter the interaction, he felt so disconnected from everyone, especially himself. He barely recognized his own reflection anymore. He didn’t know who he was supposed to be around anyone. He didn’t know how to act around Finn, he didn’t know how to act around Marceline, and he definitely didn’t know how to act around all of these other strange new humans.

Listening to the idle chatter of those around him, Simon couldn’t help but look around and think about all of the places around he would have visited with his fiancee, Betty. He was sure she would have loved living in such an odd world such as Ooo. She would have loved to drag him on different expeditions for various artifacts, and he happily would have gone along. He looked around at every weird little home, and every weird little shop, visions of his beloved popping up around him, her voice filling his head.

“Look at this, Simon!”

“We have to go in there next!”

“Didn’t you mention this in some of your studies? We should totally look for it!”

It drove him crazy.

Once back inside of his locked up little home with very little to no light, the man just sighed and leaned against his closed walls. Even being in the comfort of his own… “Home”, he felt completely out of place. His body felt strangely heavy, but it wasn’t a new feeling, not at all. His mind was empty but flooding with thoughts at the same time. He felt sad. He just wanted to drop to his knees, curl up on his floor, and sob to his heart's content for hours.

But, he felt too numb to cry. Too numb to be angry with anyone or himself. His mind and body just moved on autopilot every single day. And moving on autopilot, Simon went to change and get ready for bed.

He stared up at his ceiling, reminiscing on memories he knew he’d be better off without. Simon hated this part of his days. Trying to fall asleep, only for memories of the past to come rushing in. Memories of Betty, vague blurred memories of the Ice King, memories of him and Marceline’s past. Every old memory that suddenly resurfaced sent a strong wave of pain through his body. Sleep. He needed to sleep. That would get this to stop.

So, he closed his eyes, and tried to let his mind wander to anything or anyone that didn’t seem familiar to him. He just attempted to let his mind go completely blank, he didn’t want to think of anything, just for once.

For once, he wanted some peace.

For once…

The gentle feeling of having his face poked is what stirred him awake. That, and the sun beaming down onto him. But… His museum-like home didn’t have windows. So how was there sun…? The touch on his face made him give a small smile. The touch was warm. It was familiar. It was a feeling he had been aching for.

He slowly opened his eyes, squinting and bringing his arm up to his face to block the light from his face. Realizing he wasn’t in his own home, he quickly sat up with a startled gasp, looking around the grassy field he had been placed in. It was so bright. There was nothing for miles except for more of the field. Dandelions surrounded him. It was beautiful. It was tranquil. It gave him that peace he’d been looking for for so long.

“Finally! Rise and shine, Simon!”

Simon felt a sense of dread and relief hearing the voice beside him. He turned, only to see his fiancee sitting beside him, smiling at him like she used to. She wasn’t some eldritch god, she was just… Betty. She was the brilliant woman he fell in love with all those years ago. As much as it ached, he missed seeing her.

“Thought you’d never wake up. Forgot how heavy of a sleeper you can be.” She teased, gently nudging his arm. Simon just chuckled, “I’m sorry.” Immediately, Simon felt as if his whole world was closing in on him the second those words left his mouth. It was something he’d been wanting to say to her for so long, but had no way to reach her. Even if he could, would he be able to say it? It was something he meant, but he was positive he’d just… Freeze up at the opportunity. The man sighed, and looked down into his lap.

Betty tilted her head seeing his suddenly saddened demeanor. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder,

“Simon? What’s wrong?”

“…I’m sorry, Betty. I’m sorry you had to sacrifice yourself for… Me. Now you’re not even here anymore, because of me. And all I can do is sit around screwing up the second chance you’ve given me. But, what am I supposed to do? I feel so stuck without you. It’s like the minute I realized you were actually gone, my mind and body just stopped working. Now I don’t know what there is for me to do…”

Betty nodded, “Grief is a tricky thing. You’re not used to not having the person you lost, and it’s depressing, it’s isolating, it’s hard to forget about. But, where there’s grief, there’s eventually healing. Nobody can stay stuck in the grieving process forever.”

“We were doomed from the start, weren’t we..?”

Betty chuckled at his notion, “Maybe we were, or maybe we weren’t. Personally, I don’t think we were “doomed from the start” as you like to put it. I don’t think there’s always been some divine fate tearing us apart. I think somewhere down the line, we did that.” She heard Simon give a small groan in response. She just smiled and picked one of the dandelions from the field.

“Doomed or not, I don’t regret a moment I spent with you. No matter what we could have done differently, I’m satisfied with the ending we got. Of course I do wish it could have been something… Happier. But, you’re okay. You’re alive. So, I’m fine with this.”

Simon shook his head, his frustration and sadness quickly building, “But I’m not! How can you be fine with this? How can you be happy about this? How can you be so… Content..?” He sighed, before placing his head in his hands, “How can anyone be satisfied with anything they do? I don’t get it… I don’t know how to do that…”

“I know you don’t, Simon. I’m sorry. I know this isn’t something you want to hear right now, but; you’re someone who won’t ever let himself be happy.”

Simon perked up at her words. He lifted his head and looked over at her, eyebrows knitted together “What..?”

“You’re someone who’ll wake up every morning, and go out of his way to avoid anything that might make you happy. You have an anxious thought that every situation will only end in doom, so you don’t go out of your way to try and be happy. Maybe you don’t recognize it, but it’s self sabotage at best. I don’t know the reason you do this, I never did, but I do know it’s something you need to seek help for. It’s not good for you. You… Have an identity outside of our relationship Simon, I want you to realize that. Maybe you’ll see that one day…” She reached over and placed a hand on his cheek, to which Simon immediately fell into, placing his own hand over hers.

Simon let out a shaky breath, tears quickly falling from his eyes, “It’s too much. Everything lately is just… Too much. I hate waking up, I hate having to move, I hate interacting with people, I hate that people have to see me everyday, I hate that I have to pretend everything is okay! When it’s not! Nothing is okay! I’m not okay! I… I don’t want to be here anymore. I’m so tired…”

Betty slightly frowned hearing this. Instead of saying anything else, she just gently laid him back down in the grass. He whined, but closed his eyes, slowly drifting off as she ran her fingers through his hair.

“You’ll be okay, Simon. You’re strong, you just don’t see it. But I do. I’ll see you next time…”

Abruptly, Simon woke up ten minutes before his alarm was supposed to go off. As usual. He hated that dream. It was never the same, they always just talked about different things. It was everything he knew he’d never have. He’d never be able to apologize to Betty. He’d never be able to see her again.

Most of all, he’d never be able to genuinely feel happy. He was never able to, for as long as he could remember. His chest panged with pain and an overwhelming sense of sadness and dread at the realization of that.

He would be doomed until the day he died.
