Contagiously Human.

[Brian Moser x Female!Reader]
Synopsis: Killing was always the easiest part for him, but this… you… well, as fate would have it, that created a new problem for him. {GIF Creds: brothermoser}

Category: Plot-Driven, Maybe Some Fluff/Angst…?
Someone asked me if I’d ever thought about writing Biney… and well, I decided to put my thought into actual words 🤷‍♀️
Just for some minor clarification, this is pretty much a “what if” fic in which Dexter does not end his life. This being said, I picture this taking place around season 5-6 ish.
『••✎••』
Hesitation.
The thing that makes or breaks a killer. The line that separates predator from prey. It's the pause between life and death, the time a man takes to make the decision, and whether he'll live to regret it or not.
He’s never had hesitation. Not once. In fact, he relishes in it; he finds peace in knowing that he can decide one way or another and be content with either outcome. It makes him a dangerous man, unpredictable, a ticking time bomb.
His baby brother, his blood, had the disease. The disease of being too much of a good person, feeling guilt, having morals, a sense of what's right and wrong. He was weak, he hesitated, and he wasn’t even aware of how much the disease was eating him alive until that Trinity Killer came around.
He was supposed to protect his brother, save him from himself, and show him the proper way of things. The way of survival. Of the hunt. But no, Brian wasn’t there to catch him. To stop him.
So, as all good brothers do, he’s here to fix him. To set him straight and rid him of the disease. Forever.
It's an easy task, really. His little brother is so trusting and caring that he'd do anything for the ones he loved. Why not start by showing him why he shouldn't?
Because clearly, the loss of his apparent wife wasn’t enough. He needed to understand, truly and absolutely, that the world would only disappoint him. It's a harsh lesson but a necessary one.
So, that led him to you. His brother’s friend from school. The woman, aside from Dexter’s poor excuse for a sister, that his brother actually cared about.
Just like him, you were naive. Trusting, too. Friendly to everyone, completely unaware of the monsters that hid in the shadows. His brother included.
You might’ve never killed someone, but with everything else, it was clear why his brother was so interested in you. He always loved the innocent ones.
So, the question was, how would he go about it? He could take you somewhere, but the element of surprise was an important factor. You had to believe you were safe and comfortable before he could make his move.
A Debra repeat? Or a more... Unique approach. He'd think about it, plan it out, and strike at the perfect moment.
He wouldn’t hesitate, after all.
When the day presented itself, the stars had aligned, and everything was just right; he made his move. It was noon, a warm Sunday.
You were in your little bookshop, reading one of the books in your free time. Business had been slow today, as most people were enjoying the weather.
You never saw him coming. He was the type to blend into the crowd, the type that you'd see once and forget about. The type you'd pass on the street without a second thought.
He had his ways, of course, and his way was simple. A simple, kind greeting. One that had your eyes lighting up as if you'd never seen another person before.
He was charming, handsome, the perfect man to lure you in. You didn’t stand a chance.
That's what led him here, picking up your fallen book and handing it to you, watching the smile that graced your lips.
A romance novel, of course. How ironic.
"Oh, uh, thank you. That’s very kind."
You smiled, a hint of blush dusting your cheeks. Far more tame than that Debra woman, thankfully. He didn’t have to fight back the urge to roll his eyes.
"Tea and romance? Can’t say I blame you." He pulled a gentle grin, one that had you blushing further, more so of embarrassment this time.
"It's the first of a series. A favorite, actually, I’ve been rereading it." You explained, holding the book to your chest. He didn’t miss the way your thumb rubbed over the spine, fond and gentle.
Just from that, he knew. He was going to have fun with you. “Believe it or not, I read the first one too. A few months ago, actually. It was quite the page-turner. The ending had me on the edge of my seat, I swear."
You laughed, soft and airy, and for a moment, he found himself smiling genuinely. His lie was working, and he couldn’t believe it was that easy.
"I've only heard mixed reviews on it.” You spoke, moving to place the book back on the shelf. "I'm glad to hear you liked it. Marienne’s death was hard, wasn't it?"
"Very." He agreed though it was a lie. He had to pretend he cared. "It was a shame; I really enjoyed the character."
"You did?" You raised a brow, surprised. “Most people didn’t. Given that she doesn’t even exist.”
Shit.
He cleared his throat, a slight pause. He was so blinded by the idea of finally getting to his brother that he'd forgotten.
You were a reader, an author; of course, you would know the ins and outs of the story. The characters, the plot, and every little detail. Why would you not?
First rule of hunting. Don’t get cocky.
"Alright, I admit. I've been caught." He gave a small shrug, his voice holding a hint of sheepishness. Maybe you’d fall for it. “I couldn’t help myself; I figured you wouldn’t appreciate my love for fantasy books."
"Fantasy?" You tilted your head, and he knew. You bought it. You were a sucker for fantasy; you didn't like it when others looked down on them.
"I'm a bit of a nerd. Guilty pleasure."
"I didn’t peg you for the fantasy type…” You raised your eyebrow, though a smile still rested on your lips—a look of amusement.
"Really? Most people can't seem to look past the collared shirt.
"No, it's not that. It's your aura." You shook your head, and now, it was his turn to raise his brow. What the hell did that mean?
"My aura?"
"Those books in your hands..” You nodded towards his bag, a small smirk pulling at the corner of your lips. "You're definitely not a casual reader. My guess is everything in there is a throwaway.”
"And that means...?"
"You're bullshit through and through. You don't like romance or fantasy. In fact, I think you absolutely hate it."
Oh. Oh, you clever thing. Now, he truly understood why his brother connected with you so much. You'd figured him out, and yet, you had no clue. You were clever, smarter than you let on.
"Alright,” He held his hands up in mock surrender. He was enjoying this; for once, someone could see through his façade. See his true self. It was a rush.
“If you’re so smart, what do I like then?"
"Hmm, let's see...” And just like that, you were off with him in tow. You were taking him along on a trip through the shelves, looking through the genres, searching and searching.
He was intrigued, his eyes locked on you, his ears drinking in the sound of your hums and contemplation. Your mind was running, spinning, thinking. You were truly in your element.
"Well, let's start with what I know. You like horror." You said, turning towards the horror section and picking up a book. "You seem like the type who enjoys the dark side of humanity and likes to see the bad guy win."
Damn.
He was almost impressed. Almost.
"How could you possibly know that?"
"Eyes. They tell the most about a person. You’ve seen a lot, and it shows. I could tell just by looking at you. Your eyes are... Cold. Empty." You said, and it was then that he realized you were more observant than you appeared. Naivety might’ve not been a part of your personality, but trust was. You trusted a lot. Too much. “Are you a cop, by chance? You've got the whole detective thing going on."
"Prosthetist, actually." He answered, his hand reaching out and picking up a book at random. He wasn't a fan of fiction, not really. He preferred nonfiction; it was more realistic—less pointless details.
"Oh, wow, I was completely off. I didn’t expect that." You mused, looking up at him with those eyes. You had such an expressive face; it was amazing how easy you were to read. He could practically see the gears turning. How could he use this?
"Expected an axe murderer, did you?" He joked, a smile tugging at his lips.
"Maybe. Wouldn’t that be a twist?" You grinned a glint of amusement in your eye. “Speaking of, that’s probably what you like. Thrillers. Those kinds of stories are full of twists and turns. No one is who they appear to be. Kinda like you, hm?"
"Ouch."
"Sorry, am I being too honest?"
"No, I like it. Keep going." He was having fun. With Debra, it was exhausting. She was so stubborn, so headstrong, she never listened. It took him about three coffees just to have enough patience to deal with her sob story.
But with you, you were a breath of fresh air. He didn’t have to force himself awake or hide his boredom. He could just enjoy it, relish in the moment, and the fact that you were so easy to play with.
You pulled out three books: two thrillers and one horror. A classic and a new one. "These are what I recommend. Start with Primal Fear; that’s the one I believe you'll like the most. The first one might take you a while, but if you stick with it, the sequel will be worth it.
He reached forward, his hand brushing over yours, his touch lingering as he took the book. He purposely brushed his thumb against the back of your hand, just enough for a spark to go through your veins.
He saw the way your breath hitched, and he smirked. This was too easy.
"Thank you, you've been a great help."
"One more thing before you go." You spoke, stopping him. His eyes moved up from the book to your own, and there he saw something that made him falter.
Something that made him freeze longer than he should have.
You had a fire behind those eyes. A flame that burned with a passion, a curiosity that threatened to eat him alive. A want, a need, to get into his head. To peel him open and look inside.
Your eyes weren't cold or empty like his. They were alive. Full of life.
"Books don’t impress women,” Your voice was low, a secret, something meant only for him to hear. “It’s the passion that opens their hearts. You have nothing if you can't show it."
"I think I've misjudged you." He spoke, his hand resting on the shelf above your head. He had no choice but to lean closer, and he felt the way your breath fanned across his skin.
"Oh?"
"Yes. You're a lot more than you appear, aren’t you?"
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
The question was left unanswered. He didn't give a response because, in truth, he didn't know.
He left that day not with his brother’s cure or even the thought of him. He left with three books.
Three books and the disease he believed to be immune to…
Hesitation.

[@numetalnerd2007] Since you asked, I figured this would automatically mean you were interested. At least I hope you were 💀
That being said, please be nice to me for this one since it’s my first time writing for Biney here (and I haven’t rewatched season 1 in forever), so his character probably isn’t 100% solid. It’s a work in progress 🙏✨
Also, for all my Joe Goldberg fans out there, did you catch the reference I made? I see a slight resemblance between Brian and Joe, so I wanted to sneak it in a little something. I think it’s the hair, honestly.

how would the 141 + konig and vaqueros react to reader (not part of the military, just a civvy) randomly having connections with a bid deal military person like someone on a higher rank💀 imagine them being "oh general ___? we had dinner at his house last week. i met him while I'm on a coffee run" or someone from 141 mentioning that they need something and reader is just like "hmm i might have someone for that"
this is so funny to me
ghost: he needed access to some computer data from a big law firm, but they refused to cooperate with him or the team. at dinner one night, you two were talking about your days when he mentioned his frustration with this law firm. “what firm is it?” you asked curiously and he told you it was a group called ‘Henson and co Law’. you started laughing and when he looked confused, you smiled. “i know their mom. i use to babysit them for her after their dad left the picture. let me see if i can get their mother to talk some sense into those brothers.” the next day, the law firm quickly gave ghost what he needed and asked him to give you their love.
soap: you two were laying in bed together, him having just return from a recon mission. “you know, this mission is being over complicated just because no one knows how to get into this gala. every time we try and get invites, they reject us!” he let out his frustration and you looked up from your book. “you talking about the Mason Gala? i can get you in. Helen Mason is my godmother!” soap immediately whipped his head towards you, desperately grabbing at your arm. “please doll! also your godmother is a multi millionaire?” you shook your head, getting your phone out to text the women and ended up securing the whole team and yourself tickets.
gaz: you two were on a facetime call while he was on a mission. the homecoming date kept being pushed back because one of the guys they were supposed to get intel from kept flaking. gaz was expressing his frustration with the whole thing when he mentioned a name to you that was super familiar. “wait a minute…you don’t mean Ben Klark? i went to high school with him!” you laughed when gaz lurched forward. “please tell me you still have contact with him! we need tech!” you nodded, grabbing your laptop to message him. the next day, three boxes showed up full with the Klark tech the team needed.
price: he hosted a bbq at your guy’s house every other weekend. you were bringing out trays of food to the boys at the backyard table. they were deep in work talk when you joined. “we just need to somehow get the Jacobsons sisters to agree to go undercover.” price shook his head, knowing the two girls would never agree. “you mean Vanessa and Amelia Jacobsons? their mom does my nails.” you mentioned causally, setting the tray of food in front of soap and gaz. “wait you know them?” price looked at you confused. “yeah the girls come into the shop whenever i’m in to gossip. i think i have Vanessa’s number. i can try and convince her if it’ll help.” you looked at the boys, confused as to why this was groundbreaking to them. the boys immediately started begging you to ask the girls and you giggled as you went back into the kitchen, grabbing your phone to text the two girls.
alejandro: you happened to be sitting in his office, waiting for him to take you to lunch when him and two other officers walked in. “what do you mean we don’t have a pilot? no one on this base can fly?” he sounded frustrated as the two officers shook their heads. “you need a pilot?” you asked, catching the three men’s attention. “why? do you know one?” one of the officers asked. “yeah my brother. he’s overseas in america but i’m sure he’ll be able to do it. he’s air force.” you grabbed your phone to text him. alejandro crouched in front of you, kissing your head. “you’re my favorite, did you know that? i’ll contact his C.O. and get him down here.” you smiled, squeezing his hand. “you still owe me lunch.”
rudy: he was working in his home office when you entered, a plate of food in your hands. “rudy honey? you gotta eat.” you placed the plate down on top of the stack of papers he had buried his face into. “i will once i can get a reputable translator for when we go to russia in a few days.” he groaned, softly pushing the plate to the side. “i think i have a guy for that.” you pulled your phone out and started texting. rudy looked up at you, the look of hope in his eyes. “i’m desperate. everyone i reach out to is so sketchy.” he rubbed his eyes and you nodded. “Mikael Petrov. i studied with him in college. great guy.” you handed your phone to him with the contact pulled up. “you are a blessing.” he stood before kissing you gently.
könig: you were folding laundry in the family room when könig came home. he kicked his boots off before collapsing in his favorite chair next to you. “rough day?” you asked, not looking up from your task. “ja. everyone is busting my ass to find a hacker that can decode this transmission we intercepted.” you chuckled at the very militaristic sentence. “you could’ve just asked me baby. i know so many people.” you placed his pile of laundry on his lap before kissing his head. “you know someone? a hacker?” he looked concerned at first. “don’t ask. college roommate for all 4 years.” you laughed before getting your phone out. “Emila Davenport.” you gave him her number before taking the laundry basket full of clothes back upstairs to your room. “i’m gonna marry you someday, maus!” könig called out and you laughed loudly in return.

I can imagine human reader getting tierd of being the only one in the 141 without like hybrid powers and just pulls a full brainstorm and makes like spider man stuff. like we just make some web shooters or something and the boys when we show them are just O°O
Webs
Dumbfounded, that’s the first thing they felt. To combat your mundaneness, your powerlessness in the face of a world full of hybrids and monsters born with powers and using them. You were human in every sense, you were powerless, mortal and weak, but you were resilient, mind brewing with theories and hypothesis for a way to become better —greater so that you could match the other men in the Task Force.
It took you weeks of building and searching for help, having Laswell connect you to the brightest minds in both worlds : human and monsters, to have your little contraption built. It was all hard work and sleepless nights, cooperation between both sides until you had your little shooter in your hand. It would be the tech that would help you hold your own in times of need and when you separated, stranded on your own.
It was a surprise, certainly, to the hybrids you worked with, watching you swing objects and shrapnel left and right when they’re thrown at you. You used your newly-acquired gadget to make the area safer before you started on whatever wound Soap or König had, touching up any injuries you already patched up hurriedly, or wanting to clear the area.
Price had commented on it, praising your ingenuity to further your reach, being able to do more than asked of you. Ghost, Gaz and König were often the ones to watch you practice, the exercise you added to your drills to master your ability to swing from wall to wall. Gaz would fly over your head, ready to fly down and pick you up if you slipped or if the web wasn’t shot far enough. If Gaz couldn’t reach you in time, Ghost and König were the failsafe, catching you in their arms.
Horangi’s curious, his swaying tail and careful steps matching Soap’s excited wagging and skip when they asked you questions, a feline’s curiosity and a canine’s eagerness. You told them all you knew, the less technical parts of the construction without confusing them or yourself. You explained how it worked, how to change the fibre and how to use it.
Rudy was the only one tempted to try it out, letting you watch him fumble and stumble around with it while he hung in the air, feet kicking the cement wall. Alejandro would laugh, his smooth chuckle making both yours and Rudy’s cheeks warm, him from embarrassment and you from something warm in your abdomen.
Perhaps you’d ask a few bigger copies just to see how well the rest of the TF fared with your gadget, just for the fun of it, to laugh and look back at this memory with joy and laughter.

Power Hungry. (Graves x Virgin!Reader.)
!nsfw, smut, unprotected sex, non con, virginity loss, Graves is pushy, military talk, blood, violence, no minors- you know the drill!
Soap is not dead on this blog, he’s alive and well. That was not canon here! XD NOT EDITED
Tumblr media
It’s no secret that Commander Graves has a thing for you.
He has since the day he met you.
He didn’t care who was around when he flirted with you. He didn’t care who heard. You didn’t mind him or his flirting at first. You got along with him pretty well. You didn’t see him too much because you were apart of task force 141 and he was with his own group. But that didn’t mean you didn’t like him. You of course had no intentions of ever pursuing his advances. You were a scared virgin and that was that.
Things changed when he took over Alejandro’s base and attacked Soap.
He held you inside Alejandro’s base alongside him. Had you tied up. He killed many innocent people and threatened you. Held a gun to your head.
It was a weird day when Soap and Rudy said he died in the tank, and you heard nothing about him for months.
Until you were sitting in that office talking to Shepherd.
“Without an army you’ve got nothing.” Gaz spoke. You were standing next to him. “Wrong again boys.” When Graves appeared on screen your stomach fell. Knowing what he’s capable of. What he said he’d do to you if you didn’t cooperate. You tried to hide yourself behind Gaz. “Un-fucking-believable.” Soap groans. “Soap… you miss me?” You can hear the smile in his voice as he says it. You hear nothing but ringing in your ears for the next few minutes. Not until you hear your name and freeze up.
“Is that Y/N behind you, Gaz?” Graves smiles. He bites his lip and you freeze. “That’s none of your concern.”
“Oh come on. Let me see her. Show me that pretty face.” Gaz backs himself up into you. Giving you a chance to get out the door without being seen anymore by him. You’d have to thank him later. “It’s alright. She’s got some hard feelings.. I’ll make it up to her.” He smirks. “Fuck off.” Gaz growls. “You tied her up and threatened to kill her, I hope the next time she sees you she shoots you.” Soap rolls his eyes. Graves laughs on the other end.
———
You’re stood next to Gaz when Graves tries to shake his hand. Gaz doesn’t make a move and you have to stifle back a laugh. You can tell it eats Graves alive that none of you will be nice to him, but that’s not something that’s going to change. Not ever. His betrayal was unforgivable.
When Makarov got away, the task force stepped back. They had no intel, no leads. Nothing. Shadows were staying on the base with 141 and you had live alongside them until they went elsewhere. So you kept to yourselves mostly. You did your very best to avoid Graves. Until you couldn’t. You were on watch, but your partner had changed. You had no idea who was waiting up there for you. Who you’d be on watch with for the next couple of hours. You expected maybe Captain Price or another shadow. But you didn’t expect him to be waiting there for you.
His smirk was knowing, he’d purposely put himself as your partner on watch from here on out and you felt your blood boiling inside your veins. Why couldn’t he just leave you alone?
Why couldn’t he have been a good guy? Someone you could trust?
He stands up from his chair. His smile beaming as he made his way toward you. “Y/N.. how you been honey?” He smiles. By the time he comes to a halt there’s barely a foot of space between the both of you. Which gives you the perfect distance for a right hook. He doesn’t expect it, not from you. You’re sweet and kind.
He stumbled back, recovering from the hit. His eyes are wide when he looks up at you. Wiping his now bloodied lip.
He laughs. In complete disbelief.
“My name is Y/N. That’s how you’ll address me. If you don’t want to sit on watch alone for the next couple weeks, you’ll shut the fuck up and leave me alone.” Your demeanor is strong. Your chest is puffed up and you’re standing your ground. Something he didn’t expect from you. You pass by him, going to sit down. “Oh come on, you’re not still mad are you?” You freeze up. Swallowing hard. “You tied me up, held a gun to my head, and than went after my task force. I’m fucking furious that you’re still standing on two feet.” The venom in your voice stings him a bit. How you could hate him so bad.
He knows he deserves it.
“What’s it gonna take huh? To prove myself to you?” He breathes. “You’re a fucking dog, a filthy traitor. You’re never going to be anything more than the dirt on my shoes.” You make your way for the door. “You and I? Will never be friends. Not ever. As far as I’m concerned, you’d have been better off if you pulled the fucking trigger.” You seethe as you slam the door shut, going down the stairs of the watch tower and leaving him up there alone. You knew you’d have to come back tomorrow, but for now, you needed to get away from him.
You think about him a lot. You always have.
You think about how flirty he was when you first met him. How he’d make you blush. He’d wink at you in passing and your stomach would fill with butterflies. You always thought it was a stupid crush but your virginity is what kept you away. You were scared to lose it, and avoided the topic at all costs.
Seeing him now makes you realize it was more than just a crush. You had real feelings for him deep down and his betrayal cut deep and hurt worse than anything you’d ever been through. If he liked you like he said he did, why was hurting you so easy? If you like someone, how could you? You lost sleep over it, and the time you thought he was dead, you dreamt of him. You would dream about how it was all a mistake, that it wasn’t real. How he’d come running to your aid and hold you close to him. Reassuring you it was all fake.
And than you’d wake up. And he’d be dead again.
He was a lot easier to get over when he was dead. It was easier to cope with because of his betrayal. You shouldn’t care that he was dead because of what he’d done and that’s how you got through the grieving process. But now, you didn’t know how to feel. He was alive but it seemed harder to cope with.
The next day on watch, you were up there first. He came inside but didn’t say anything to you. Thank god.
He leaves you alone for the most part. Only asking certain questions about how the base worked. You were short with him.
It went that way for weeks. You kept to yourself and so did he.
It was him who finally broke the silence.
“I wasn’t going to hurt you, you know.”
You turn to look at him, eyes darkening. For a second he thinks he made a mistake. But he doesn’t stop. “I.. I was just trying to scare you. So that you wouldn’t run away.” He swallows down a lump forming in his throat. “I knew you’d be pissed. Of course I did. But.. I thought maybe if I kept you close to me for long enough, you’d understand.”
He sighs. “I was delusional. I was terrified.” He looks down at his hands. “I acted purely out of fear, Shepherd told me about the consequences of what could happen if those found out about what had happened despite me not knowing. I was desperate to cover it up. He told me to kill you but I couldn’t. That’s why I kept you tied up. I didn’t want to.”
“He used me and threatened me. He blackmailed me because he made me apart of it. And Y/N.” He breathes. Looking at you. “I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry for the hurt that I’ve caused you. It was never my intention, I tried to avoid it.”
You look down. It’s silent and he’s clearly waiting for you to say something. “What’s done is done.” You breathe. “Maybe you can spend the rest of your life making up for it. And maybe when you’re dead I’ll forgive you.”
And just like that, you’re gone again.
———
For the next week or so, he decides to get close to Gaz.
He offers to help him any chance he gets and Gaz always says no. But Graves jumps in to help anyways. It drives Gaz crazy at first, until he gets used to it.
Gaz is helping work on a Humvee and Graves is passing him tools, offering to be a runner if he needed anything. “This is about Y/N isn’t it?” Gaz asks out of the blue one day. “What?”
“You’re only being friendly to me because of her, right?”
Graves sighs. “Gaz. I’m trying to make it up to you guys. I know it’ll take forever, but I’m trying.” He mumbles. “What I did was fucked up and if the shoes were on the other feet I’d have put a bullet in my head already and I’m thankful you haven’t because I know you want to.”
“She liked you.”
Graves freezes up. “What?”
“She did. She had feelings for you. She buried them deep afterward but she did. Had nightmares about you for fucking months after you died.” Gaz mumbles. “I… didn’t know that.” He sighs. “Of course you didn’t, because you don’t care about anyone but yourself.” Gaz wants to ring graves neck for hurting you. You’re like his little sister and seeing you be in love with someone who’s so selfish eats him alive. “I’m trying here. Okay?”
“You scared her.” Gaz slides out from under the Humvee. It’s where he’d been working. He picks up a towel and wipes his hands off. “I’ll never forget the look on her face when you betrayed her. When you betrayed all of us. She kept a fake face on, made us all think she was okay when she cried herself to sleep for days afterward. She’d never been so scared, she didn’t know who to trust or what to do. Captain Price had to send her off on leave for a couple weeks so that she could recover. She tried so hard to hide how she felt. Seeing you probably eats her alive, and having to work alongside with you I’m sure has ruined any kind of healing she’s done.” Gaz shakes his head. “And what the fuck she ever saw in you…” he scoffs. Throwing the towel down. “She’d be better off if you had died in that tank.”
He walks away, leaving Graves standing there alone, again.
He hated how bad this task force hated him, but he understood.
Soap is who he approached next, trying to keep him company. But Soap barely showed him the time of day and when he did it was the bare minimum. Soap hated Graves. With a burning passion. But that didn’t mean he stopped. Soap did all kinds of chores all over base, so Graves started helping.
He worked alongside Gaz, doing grunt work in the shop where Gaz tried to learn everything he could about the Humvee’s. He helped Soap with chores around the base, every single day. When he wasn’t busy that’s what he was doing.
For two hours a day, he was sitting up on watch with you. He never said a word, only did what he was supposed to.
When it came to missions, he let Captain Price control everything. He told the Shadows to follow his orders and do what they’re told and Graves did too. He kept his mouth shut and did exactly what they wanted.
On these missions, Graves watches Ghost like a hawk. Making sure he was safe, taking down a couple men that sneak up behind Ghost along the way. Graves knows to keep his distance and try to make amends by staying away, Ghost is too dangerous.
At the end of the day, if Graves dies on a mission, not a single person is going to care. He did something unforgivable, something he can’t come back from. If one of them decides they’ve had enough of him one day and kills him, they’ll cover it up and said he died in action. And that will be the end of Phillip Graves. It eats him alive day and night, but nothing compares to the way he’s hurt you. He thinks about back then, the way you’d smile and blush in his presence, roll your eyes at his flirting. Now, you were cold. Falling in love with him, or catching feelings. He doesn’t know which.
Having feelings for him destroyed you. Turned you into a cold hearted person. Who killed and served like there was nothing to it. All of the life you’d once been full of was drained because of him. Because he was supposed to protect you, but he was the one on the other side of the gun to your head. He stabbed you in back and you trusted him so much.
“What do you want from me Graves?” Soap finally snaps one day. Graves is helping him clean up the mess hall. Soap is stacking the chairs up and graves is sweeping as he goes. “I don’t want anything from you.” He mumbles. “What? You’ve been following every single one of us around like a lost puppy doing anything and everything we say, if you think that’s how you’re going to win us over it’s not going to work.” He scoffs. Graves shakes his head. “That’s no my intentions, Soap.” He sighs. “Than what are you doing?”
“I just want to work alongside you guys without hating each other. I can’t take back what I did, but I can be better. That’s what I’m trying to do.”
Soap rolls his eyes. “You betrayed us. We’re never going to like you. Not ever.”
“And that’s okay. But I’m going to do better and I’m not trying to prove that to you, I’m proving it to me.” Graves continues sweeping the floor. Leaving Soap with nothing else to say.
It goes on like this for months.
The task force worries of course, they don’t want to get comfortable with him because the last time they did that, he tried to kill all of them.
But they get used to it. To his help.
———
Graves follows after you. Hiding in the shadows. It’s late at night.
He doesn’t know what he’s thinking. Maybe he just isn’t thinking at all.
He knocks at your door quietly and you’re confused as you open it. But your heart rate picks up when you see who it is. What on earth is he doing at your door so late?
“Hey.” He breathes. He steps toward you and you hurriedly step back. “What do you want?” You say quickly. He raises his hands in surrender. “I just wanted to talk to you.” He breathes.
He can see your pupils are blown wide, you’re on edge. Had he really scared you that bad. He can see you clutching your sidearm. He sighs. “I swear I’m not going to do anything. You don’t have to be scared.” He breathes. “I’m not scared. The only thing between me and you is a bullet.” You breathe. “Just.. please. Talk to me?” He bites his lower lip, looking down at the ground. You sigh. “What do you want?”
He steps into your room, closing the door behind himself. “I just wanted to ask you..” he breathes. “Is it true you have feelings for me?”
“Had.” You finish.
“Okay.. so it’s true. You did have feelings for me.” He sighs. “Yeah. Until you betrayed us and put a gun to my head.”
He winces as the words leave your mouth. “I.. I wasn’t going to hurt you. I was just trying to scare you.”
He sits down on the edge of your bed, you’re standing in front of him, just a few feet away. “It worked.” Your eyes darken. You draw your gun from its holster, pointing it right at him. “Maybe it’s your turn.”
He closes his eyes as you move closer, pressing the barrel of your gun right to his forehead. He winces when you cock it.
“I’m sorry Y/N.”
He reopens his eyes, seeing that your eyes have filled with tears. Your hands have begun to tremble. “You’re not sorry.”
“I am. I’ve never regretted anything more. I hurt you, and I’ll never forgive myself for that.” He breathes.
Just as a tear slides down your cheek, you spin around to hide it. Wiping your cheek and shoving your gun back into its holster. “You need to go.”
“No.”
“Leave.”
“I’m not going. Not until you know how sorry I am.”
“Just go!” You wipe your eyes. You don’t want him to see you cry. “No.. not this time.” He breathes. He stands up, pulling you into him. You fight him until you’re sobbing so hard that you can’t contain it anymore and finally you relax back into him. He holds you against him while you cry. He pulls you back into the bed, your back against his chest as he holds you tight against him. You’re sitting in his lap but he’s got his arms wrapped around you. You’re still trying to fight him through sobs but you’re weak. He swallows hard, a lump growing in his throat.
Eyes fill his own tears. “I hate you.” You cry. “I hate you for what you did- I hate you for hurting me so bad.” You hiccup. “I hate you because I still care-“
You hang your head, trying your hardest to stop this panic attack.
He holds your arms to your side and keeps you there until your sobs quiet. Until you’re doing nothing but hiccuping. Thats when he finally stands up and sets you down. Kneeling in front of you. He takes your hands in his and forces you to look him in the eyes.
“You’ll never know how much I hate myself for what I did.” He swallows hard. You can see he’s got tear stains on his face. “You’ll never see how much it hurts me. Seeing you like this. I’ll never forgive myself for hurting you so bad. And I swear to god on my life I’ll live the rest of it protecting you. You don’t have to believe me. But..” he grits his teeth. Trying to hold back his own emotions. “I care about you. And you don’t have to believe me. But I was never going to hurt you. I wanted you by my side. It’s why I kept you tied up. I want you, I’ve always wanted you to be with me. So.. forgive me, for what I’m about to do.”
You look confused, your heart has finally relaxed in your chest. “Wha-“
He stands up, pressing his lips to yours. You start to panic again, trying to push him away. But he forces himself on top of you. He forces you back onto the bed, using his weight to pin you underneath him.
He’d already taken his vest off. Leaving him in only a t-shirt and jeans. He reaches for his belt. Once you hear the rattle, your eyes widen and you try harder to push him away. “Wait- Graves wait!” You push him back. He only pins you down, pressing his lips to yours again.
He forces your pants down your legs, keeping his lips on yours.
You didn’t realize how strong he is. Because no matter what you do, you can’t get him off of you.
He grips the base of his cock, and just as he’s about to slide into you, you force your head to the side.
“Please! I’m a virgin!”
He freezes on top of you. You look up at him, and all he can see in your eyes is terror. He steps down onto the floor, quickly lifting his pants over himself. “W-what?”
You pull your legs up to yourself. Hugging them to your stomach. “I’m.. a virgin.” Your voice is barely above a whisper. He back away further.
“Fuck.. fuck. I’m so sorry. I’m so fucking sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking- I-“ he reaches quickly to buckle his belt, going for the door.
“Wait!” You stand up.
He freezes up, his hand on the door handle. “Don’t…” you freeze up. Unsure of what you’re about to do. What you’re about to let happen.
“Don’t go.”
He turns back to you, swallowing hard.
“You said… you won’t hurt me.” You breathe. “Y/N..” he trails off. Looking down at the ground. “I want you to do it.” You look up at him. His heart thumps in his chest and he doesn’t hesitate to close the gap between you again. His lips are on yours before you have time to change your mind. He returns himself between your legs, exposing himself once more.
He presses the tip of his cock at your entrance. Looking down at you. He makes sure you’re wet enough, pressing himself inside of you. He tries to go slow but seeing you wince. He lowers himself into you. Covering your mouth and bracing himself before you have a chance to make any noise of protest. Thrusting himself inside of you. Your eyes widen and you cry into his hand but he shushes you, whispering into your ear to reassure you that it’ll only hurt for a minute.
And that fast, your virginity is gone. You’d given it to the person who hurt you the very most.
You look up at him. Eyes full of tears.
He finally moves his hand.
“Phillip.” You breathe. Hearing his full name come out of your mouth is foreign.
You wince as he slides out of you, thrusting back into you. “I trust you to take my virginity.” He clenches his eyes shut.
“But if you betray me again.” You whisper. “It will be me who kills you this time.” You look up at him.
He buries his face into the crook of your neck, picking up his pace and thrusting deeper into you. Angling just right to hit that spot inside of you that has you crumbling. “You’re not going to have to do that. I can fix this.” He breathes. “I can’t take it back but I can be better. I swear.” He mumbles. Hips rocking lazily into yours. “I’ll show you.” He grits his teeth. The weight of him above you overwhelms you. You have to remind yourself why he’s there. Not to hurt you. But to make you feel good. You hold back all of the racing thoughts by focusing on the way he feels sliding into you. You can feel him pulsing against you, throbbing against your gummy walls. You swallow him up, clamping tight around him. It’s the most intense pleasure Phillip has ever felt. Ever.
The pleasure is white hot and it settles into your lower stomach, his too. Like an oncoming tidal wave. About to wash away all of the pain and hurt.
Each thrust he takes into you, you forget a little more. How could he make you feel so good but have hurt you so bad? Your lips part as he glides into your spongy spot, a gasp leaving your lips as your thighs start to shake beneath him. He knows he’s got you cornered. He’s going in for the kill.
You shake and whine. Mewling out his name and pleas. You’re panting out how good he feels inside of you and he’s so close to falling apart, he feels like he’s going to implode. He raises himself up, taking deeper thrusts into that spot that you like. He looks down at you. Seeing your lips slightly parted. Sweat forming at your hairline. It throws him into a daze. How pretty you are and how you’re letting him fuck you, you let him take your virginity and as far as he knows, you hate him. You wanted him dead. You take in a jagged breath, eyes going from his eyes to where the both of you now connect. Watching his cock slide in and out of you. He’s big. He stretches you out. It hurt at first but you’ve gotten used to it. You’re amazed by how fast the pain had subsided.
You claw at his back through his shirt, holding onto the fabric for dear life as he tears you to shreds.
“I’m… I- oh my god.” You inhale sharply. He clamps his hand over your mouth once more. Resting his weight on you and thrusting into you lazily. “It’s alright. Give yourself to me.” He mumbles. “Go on baby. Give it to me.”
Your eyes roll back before clamping shut. His eyes widen as you clench down around him. A gasp leaving his lips as you throb. “Oh fuck- I’m gonna cum too.” He breathes. He wraps his arm around you, holding you still and tight to him. You shake from your orgasm tearing through you. Your eyes open, going wide when he lets out a moan. You say something into his hand but he’s still got it over your mouth. His thrusts come to halt as he reaches his high and you gasp as he cums inside of you. When he finally draws his hand away from your mouth, you’re too shocked to even know what to say. He presses his lips to yours and this time, you kiss him back.
He slides out of you, hearing you gasp as he does.
He moves himself to lay beside you, pulling you into him. “I’m sorry.” He mumbles. “I shouldn’t have pushed you like this.” He breathes.
You choose to say nothing. Not at first. You let what just happened sink in. Your chest feeling heavy once more.
You’re an idiot for trusting him with your virginity.
“Hey. Look at me.”
He cups your cheek, forcing you to look at him. “Stop overthinking. Just relax. No thoughts, it’s just you and me.” He forces you to look at him.
You nod your head.

A few months go by.
The task force hates to it admit it, but Graves is an important part to the team. He’s pretty much redeemed himself, but they try to keep their guard up anyways.
Soap and Graves are walking along the side of the building when they hear shoes scuffing across the floor.
“You know we all know about you and Y/N right?” Soap brings up out of the blue. Graves feels his blood going cold. “I didn’t know that.” He sighs. “Yeah. For a couple weeks now. Gaz wanted to ring your neck.” Soap laughs. “I’m the one who stopped him.” Soap sighs. “I hope you prove us all wrong. Because if you do anything to her..” he trails off. “You already know.”
“Yes I do.”
They hear the sound again but this time they decide to check it out. Surprised when they see a new recruit crowding you.
“Something going on here?” Soap mumbles.
“No. We’re fine.”
“No! I said to leave me alone!”
Graves is quick to intervene. “Woah- you heard the girl. Back off.” He gets between the both of you. “You touch her again and I’ll cut your hands off. Understand me?” He crosses his arms over his chest. Seeing the new recruit with fear in his eyes. “Come on. Taking you to Price’s office.” Soap scoffs. Grabbing a hold of his shirt and tugging him along. “You alright? He hurt you?”
You shake your head. “I’m fine.”
“Cmon, I’ve got you. You’re safe now.”

You woke after what feels like an eternity later, pleasantly sore all over and satisfied, you turned over hoping to return to the very realistic dream you just had, but doing do brought to things to your attention. The first thing is that your nest is much bigger, now being able to fit much more people, the second is the lack of evidence aside from the love bites and bruises that are sprinkled all over your skin, as well as the claim marks on your neck and shoulders.
Thinking to yourself you just moved around too much in your sleep, stretching your limbs was proving difficult as none of them wanted to cooperate, deciding to sit up was what lead you to notice the bump in your stomach, also, prompted you to reallise the clothes you were wearing are not the right size and don’t smell right. Slowly bringing a hand up to the bump and gentaly pressing down, it was firm. What happanded way real. The events you thought you dream were real. Panic began to set in, did they leave? Did they knock you up and leave you alone? Did they even know?
Overwhelmed with thoughts you didn’t hear the door open nor the smell of food. “Cariño?” a soft, calm voice asks, whipping your head around to find the source, making direct eye contact with Rodolfo in the doorway, a tray of food in hand. Noticing something was wrong he quickly places the tray down, making his way over and crawing into the nest beside you. Looking over your body, assessing for any damages, sighing in relfie when he find nothing physically wrong. Rudy pulled you into his arms, allowing you to cling to him like a lifeline.
The sound of sobs and whimpers was muffed as you buried you face into the side of his neck as Rudy whispered sweet, comforting words into your ear. Carefully he pulled you away, placing a thumb and finger under your chin and turning you head towards him, “¿Qué pasa?” his words were like sugar as he waited for your response “I-I thought you all left me, that this was a dream, that you just got bored and left.” you meekly spoke out between sobs and hiccups, Rudy slowly runs his hand up and down your back, quietly humming as you started to down. “No, not at all mi amor, must have been scary waking up alone, hm?” he smiles “We just wanted to make sure you get enough rest” the younger Mexican explains, keeping his voice low in hopes of not startling you.
Moments pass as you calm down, still keeping a tight hold on your mate, the thoughts of him being nothing more then a dream still present in your mind. Rudy continues to rub small circles in between your shoulder blades “Have you eaten today, mi vida?” he asks, carefully picking up the almost forgotten tray of food he brought with him “Gaz made dinner tonight, thought it was best to let you relax” he smiled down at you, picking up the bowl of soup, “Can you eat something for me, por favor, necesitas comer algo.” he explains as he brough the contents in the bowl to your lips, opening your mouth too allow the meal down your throat. The two of you sat, repeating the process until the food was gone and everything has calmed down.
Rudy got up to take the tray away before you grabbed his arm, scared to let him go, “Where are the others?” you whimpered, not being near the others was making you lonely, scared that they did move on and Rudy didn’t want to hurt you. Looking up at the alpha in front of you as he looks down at you shrunken form, like he was weighing his options, nodding his head, Rudy moved the tray to one hand and extending you the other, helping you to your feet was proving difficullt with your swollen belly, the same with walking. Eventually you both made it to the rec room, the sudden scent of all your alphas calming you almost instantly. as you two entered the chatter in the room died out, all turning their heads to look at you.
Shrinking away behind Rodolfo, in hopes to hide your body as best as you could, feeling like coming here was a mistake. “What ye doin here, bonnie” Soap asks, confused to see you walking about, “Yer not suppo-””Ella estaba sola, la encontré llorando, sorprendida ninguno de ustedes lo sintió” Rudy quickly cut off the Scotsman, explaining to the others what’s going on. All men turned their eyes back to you, worry and concern filled each and every one of them, ashamed they didn’t notice. Price opens his arms, gesturing you to come sit, following his command, sitting between his legs, your back to his chest. The older of the three Brits presses a kiss to your temple “Sorry we didn’t notice something, dear” the others nodding in agreement or throwing in their own “sorry”’s, smiling at them you open your mouth to reassure them it was ok, only to be cut off but a gravel voice as Ghost beat you too it “Don’t. None of that “it’s ok” shit” he growled at you. Sinking into the embrace behind you, mindlessly fidgeting with Köing’s fingers while striking up a conversation with the rest of the group.
The rest of the afternoon was spent with you being wrapped in a figurative blanket of warmth, Gaz helped you back to the nest, collecting items of clothings and blankets along the way as an extra apology, each one of them apologised in their own way, some with cuddes and worshipping you, some by just simply allowing you to rest  in their office while they worked. One by one crawled into the bed, few complained about work and the files they had to fill out, others just curled up next to you and drifted off, but all subconsciously kept you in the middle as a small reminder of their love.

Interview with Peggy Townsend
The Beautiful and the Wild by Peggy Townsend is a riveting suspenseful mystery. There are secrets, the haunting terrain of Alaska, as well as hope.  It is a fight for survival by a mother who dearly loves her son.
Liv Russo thought she was happily married until one day she became a hero.  This opened knowledge of her past where she was shunned by all.  Then her husband leaves to supposedly go on an outing and never returns.  A detective informs Liv that her husband committed suicide.  But this was also not true when she finds clues that he was alive and living in Alaska. She travels to a compound there with her developmentally disabled seven-year-old son Xander.
But her return is not a happy reunion.  Mark has been shacking up with a young woman, Angela, and another woman, Diana who had a son with him, Rudy, ten years ago. Liv feels betrayed and angry and threatens to leave and go to the police to tell them he faked his death.  Mark, her husband, locks her in a shipping container for weeks until she appears to acquiesce and agree to his lifestyle of an open relationship. But in truth she is biding her time until she can escape with her son. She must learn how to survive and navigate the Alaskan wilderness of extreme weather, possible starvation, and dangerous wildlife.
This is an exciting book that might remind readers of a “lock room” story that takes place in the Alaskan wild. There are some twists and turns with each character having secrets revealed as the story progresses.
Elise Cooper:  How did you get the idea for the story?
Peggy Townsend: I am a journalist and have written about secrets:  those who tried to conceal and those who tried to reveal. I was in our cabin and listening to a podcast about a guy who was a former Marine who stopped the assassination of Gerald Ford, someone in the “closet.” He was outted by the media with the result that his family shunned him. I thought how secrets can be so damaging.  It spurred me to think what if someone did something heroic and it caused the darkest secrets to be revealed.
EC: Why the Alaska setting?
PT:  I love Alaska.  My husband and I spent seven weeks in our van traveling in Alaska.  I was thinking how Alaska is the perfect place because it is so remote.  If someone was to hide secrets that is where they would go. Having spent a lot of time in the wilderness and the back country.  What I learned it to be in tune with nature and be aware of the surroundings. As the main character, Liv, develops she became more attuned with nature.
EC:  How would you describe Liv?
PT:  She is wounded and flawed.  Liv is determined, resourceful, and gritty.  All of this comes from her tough childhood. At times she felt humiliated, trapped, isolated, anxious, and yet was able to find her strength. Hardship was good for her because she discovered her true self. I was like that.
EC:  How would you describe Mark?
PT:  He is based on someone I once met. Someone I did not like very much.  He was super handsome, charismatic, but had a hubris that brought him down.  Mark is very manipulative and has the women bend to his will. He is aggressive, dark, obsessed, a loner, selfish, uncaring, chauvinistic, cocky, paranoid, and conceited. Yet, he was such a good dad and very creative.
EC:  How would you describe the relationship between Liv and Mark?
PT:  She felt betrayal, anger, and thought of him as a liar and cheater. He berated her. He liked to make her jealous.  When they were first married, she was a follower.  She did love him. Although he was flawed, he did have some good qualities. She made excuses for him at first.  Later she saw how wrong she was.
EC: Role of the fox?
PT:  I liked the idea that a vixen is used to describe a woman in unflattering terms, hard to manage.  A fox is a beautiful creature.  After Liv sees this fox, it gives her hope and inspiration.
EC:  Role of the prison?
PT: I wanted her to have been in prison because of what happened to her mom, inspired by a true story.  I wanted her to be able to survive being imprisoned in a container.  Having been in prison she learned the terrible lesson, but this enabled her to find ways to cope, make a routine, avoid confrontations, and to figure out how to escape.
EC:  Diana versus Angela?
PT: These two women and Liv are very different in how they approached the world. Angela is naïve, needy, young, and insecure.  Diana is very independent.  Liv is a caring mom. These women never became a sisterhood. I did a lot of research regarding open relationships. There was always a tension and jealousy underneath because of the open relationship.  Diana did not care, Liv felt betrayal and would not go along, and Angela would do anything to get Mark’s approval and love.
EC:  What about the book Mind, Self, Love by Kai Huang?
PT:  I made this book up but did do research and reading on self-help books. Mark manipulated the women to seek his pleasure.  He enjoyed having the power.
EC:  Next book?
PT:  It is also set in the wilderness.  A young runaway meets a female recluse in the woods.  Both are being hunted for different reasons. They are both trying to survive.  My working title is Nobody is Missing. It will be released next year some time.
THANK YOU!!

They live in a society consisting of various tribes and religious beliefs. Although they have differences, their lives side by side with peace and harmony.    However, one day an incident that shook the peace. A young man named Rudi, who came from a Muslim family, decided to visit the local church on Friday. Rudi’s decision raises a stir in the community, because it is contrary to the norms and values that apply.    Denny JA through this story wants to show how social issues can affect daily life and how we should face it. In this story, Denny Ja highlights the importance of dialogue, willingness to listen, and respect differences. By photographing the existing social reality, Denny Ja invites us to reflect on the values that we should have in maintaining social harmony.    Through well -built figures and interesting conflicts, Denny Ja succeeded in describing the picture of our diverse society. He showed that in a heterogeneous society, diversity is not an obstacle, but instead it becomes a wealth that must be maintained together.    In this essay poem, Denny Ja also shows how understanding and inter -religious dialogue can strengthen relationships between individuals. Rudi, the main character in this story, is trying to explain his intention in visiting the Church to his family and his friends who are Muslim. This process is not easy and full of challenges, but this provides an important picture of the importance of effective communication in building understanding and overcoming misunderstandings.    In addition, Denny Ja also illustrates the importance of wise leadership in dealing with social issues that arise. One important figure in this story is a wise and tolerant religious leader. He acts as a mediator and helps improve cracked relationships due to differences of opinion. Denny Ja wants to illustrate that leaders who are able to soothe and embrace differences are the main key in maintaining social harmony.    Denny Ja also invites us to see social problems from various points of view. Through his figures, he described the challenges and worries they face in dealing with religious and cultural differences. In this case, Denny Ja wants to invite us to be more empathy and understand the feelings of others, and not to quickly judge.    At the end of the story, Denny Ja gave a message that peace and unity are common interests that must be maintained and fought for. He showed that togetherness and cooperation between individuals from various religious and cultural backgrounds is the key to our success as a pluralist society.

Quote
Donald Trump’s resistance to the idea that he lost the election isn’t a surprise. This is a man, former star of a phony-reality TV show, who almost never admits he’s lost/failed/come in second at anything. Who knows what new adventures we’ll have before Inauguration Day? I’m hoping he’ll refuse to leave his room and security agents will end up carrying him out of the White House in a blanket.
Gail Collins at the New York Times.
Ms. Collins is conducting a survey to determine: Who’s the most irresponsible member of the Trump orbit? Besides, obviously, Himself.
Her nominees are...
Attorney General Bill Barr
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
Emily Murphy, the head of the General Services Administration
Mike Pence, on general principles
Rudy Giuliani
This competition is in the context of the Trump administration’s refusal to recognize that Donald lost the election and the failure to cooperate with the Biden transition team.
Ms. Collins asks readers to respond in the comments section for the article. The results will be announced before Thanksgiving.

Progressives’ elitist college-debt plan and other commentary
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Economist: Left’s Elitist College-Debt Plan
“Progressive calls for President-elect Joe Biden to forgive student debt in his first 100 days of office should be ignored in lieu of a more moderate proposal: forgiveness capped at $5,000 of debt,” argues Beth Akers at The Wall Street Journal. The reality is that most college grads with big debt are fine: “Borrowers with the largest balances are the least likely to default . . . because they’ve often invested in professional or graduate degrees that lead to careers with high earning potential.” It’s those with small debts but no degree who are truly stuck. Since “universal student-loan cancellation” would “bleed the working class to alleviate debt for those with more-lucrative career options,” we should call it “what it is: elitist.”
From the right: Anti-racism Icon’s Pay Hypocrisy
The University of Wisconsin featured two keynote speakers at its annual Diversity Forum this year, but “prominent diversity consultant Robin DiAngelo raked in $12,750,” nearly 70 percent more than black female author Austin Channing Brown, reports The Washington Free Beacon’s Charles Fain Lehman. It’s a disparity that “a devoted reader of her work would likely identify as racist.” DiAngelo herself has “called such inequitable treatment the racist heart of capitalism.” The excessive fees for this speaking engagement “are just the latest example of the exorbitant rates DiAngelo charges for public lectures on ‘anti-racism’ and ‘white fragility,’ pop sociological concepts that have taken on new power amid America’s current racial upheaval.” She and other prominent “woke” figures will “continue to reap healthy payouts for years to come.”
Centrist: No Representation for Trumpers?
Progressives this month launched a campaign to demonize and harass lawyers and law firms who would dare represent Team Trump in its various election-related cases — and “New Jersey Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell expanded that campaign this week with a malicious and frivolous demand for New York and other states to disbar roughly two dozen lawyers for representing Trump,” fumes legal scholar Jonathan Turley at his blog. Yes, many of Team Trump’s claims may not pass muster. But courts have greeted others more warmly, and either way, none of the claims deserves to leave the lawyers disbarred or suspended. “What Pascrell is doing is undermining our legal system by using his office to advance a campaign targeting lawyers and legislators who raise objections to his party prevailing in the presidential election.”
Libertarian: Sidney Powell’s Absurd Claims
Lawyer Sidney Powell says President Trump “is the victim of a vast conspiracy to steal the 2020 election,” notes Reason’s Robby Soave, and has now “accused Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican and key Trump ally, of accepting bribes from Dominion, the voting-software company baselessly accused of switching millions of votes from Trump” to Joe Biden, and asserted Hillary Clinton used the same software to defeat Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary. But she has “provided no evidence for any of her claims,” and though she has appeared at press conferences alongside Rudy Giuliani, the Trump campaign distanced itself from her. The “vast conspiracy” she is alleging — which even involves “deceased dictator Hugo Chavez” — “would be the most serious and unprecedented assault on American democracy in living memory.” So to “say that she’s straining credulity would be the understatement of the year.”
Religion beat: Battling for the Mass
At First Things, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone recounts that “like most bishops, my first response” to the coronavirus was to cooperate with lockdowns. He suspended public Masses but left churches open for private worship. Meanwhile, he put into place rigorous safety protocols and “pleaded with public officials behind the scenes.” Yet when the reopening order finally came down, it only permitted outdoor worship for 12 people. Meanwhile, a parishioner could “spend three hours in a Nordstrom’s shopping for shoes.” At that point, the bishop realized he would have to go to war, launching his “Free the Mass” campaign — and he won: “The city raised the limit on public worship indoors to 100 people.”

From the Strategist The Best Food Gifts for Every Type of Dad added to Google Docs
From the Strategist The Best Food Gifts for Every Type of Dad
 Photo: Goldbelly
From cakes to steaks, there’s no way these gifts won’t satisfy, from the Strategist
While you may not be able to take your dad out for dinner at his favorite steakhouse or join him in the backyard as he fires up the grill, that doesn’t mean you can’t still give him the gift of his favorite food this Father’s Day. Thanks to innovations in cold shipping and a few neat delivery services, sending your old man local delicacies has never been easier — even if he lives in Los Angeles and those delicacies are made in Greenwich Village. To help you find the right edible (or drinkable) treat for your pop, we’ve rounded up the best food gifts from a variety of retailers — from heat-and-eat dinners to easy snacks to bar essentials — for every type of dad, whether he’s a meat-and-potatoes guy, clean-eater, or a teetotaler.
A note that most everything below should arrive in time for Father’s Day, but some things may require expedited shipping with a fee due to pandemic-related delays on companies’ shipping and delivery operations. We’ve noted shipping costs and estimated delivery times where applicable, but know that delivery estimates are constantly changing, and Father’s Day is June 21, so the sooner you order, the better.
For the old-school dad with a sweet tooth  Junior’s Original Cheesecake
Junior’s cheesecakes are a New York original, and doesn’t your old man deserve the best?
For the trendier dad with a sweet tooth  Milk Bar Birthday Cake
Anyone who’s had a bite knows that this is like the birthday cakes he grew up eating — but better. Milk Bar perfected its classic birthday cake over two years, and the result is a honking, three-tier confection of rainbow-flecked vanilla cake, frosting, crunchy crumbs, and sprinkles.
For the dad who misses his favorite steakhouse  Peter Luger Steak Pack B - 2 USDA Prime Dry-aged Porterhouse Steaks
Maybe he tried Peter Luger once and can’t stop talking about the porterhouse for two (that he swears he could have polished off on his own). Or maybe it’s at the top of his must-try list for whenever he can dine out again. Either way, this indulgent gift will allow him to savor that very famous steak in the comfort of his own home.
For the dad who misses his favorite steakhouse (for the wine)  Primal Wine Club
If dad misses flipping through the wine list to find a new bottle to pair with his filet, he’ll likely appreciate a subscription to the sommelier-approved Primal Wine Club, which ships a selection of natural wines — made with minimal intervention using organic or biodynamic grapes — right to his door every month. Subscriptions start at $85 for monthly three-bottle deliveries, and he can always take over paying for it if you don’t want to foot the bill for an entire year.
For the dad who prefers his meat cured  Murray’s Cheese Slam Dunk Snacks
While he might not have a game to watch while nibbling on it, that doesn’t mean dad can’t still enjoy his favorite snack of charcuterie. This “Slam Dunk” bundle from Murray’s includes Genoa salami and Prosciutto San Daniele, along with maple-leaf-pepper-jack cheese, Boerenkaas gouda, French double crème brie, chocolate, and crackers, all of which arrive packaged inside “Murray’s signature gift box,” according to the brand.
For the dad who’d prefer to just snack on chocolate  Tony’s Chocolonely Milk and Dark Chocolate Variety Pack
The sweets that we declared were last year’s status Halloween candy are also chef-approved, meaning they’re sophisticated enough for a dad whose sweet tooth is set on chocolate. They’re delicious (trust us) and also quite giftable, what with their fun candy-colored packaging. (They’re also made without slave labor, according to the brand.) This set of six includes both milk and dark varieties, for the dad whose cocoa tastes don’t discriminate.
For the dad who’s trying to eat cleaner  Green Chef
Perhaps dad has decided to give up the red meat, wine, salty snacks, and chocolate for a new low-carb or vegetarian diet. If so, Green Chef makes it easy to try eating healthier before making a complete lifestyle change. The meal-delivery service offers dishes to suit a variety of diets — from keto-friendly to paleo to plant-based — all made from organic ingredients (whenever possible), which it ships to him in precise amounts along with recipes that take no more than about 30 minutes to whip up.
For the low-carb dad who’s also low-maintenance  Pete’s Paleo
If he’d rather not mess with cooking, Pete’s Paleo may be a better option. It ships heat-and-eat dishes that are gluten-, dairy-, and soy-free — all of which are all created by a Le Cordon Bleu–trained chef. Weekly subscriptions start at $70, which will get dad five fully prepared meals that only require heating up. Pete’s Paleo also sells its dishes à la carte for $15–$18 per dish (with a five-meal minimum), if you’d rather let him try it for himself before committing to a subscription. And for Strategist readers, the company is offering $10 off its meals (both onetime purchases and subscriptions) using the code STRATEGIST.
For the dad who enjoys a cold one  Beer Across America Monthly Beer Club Subscription
If dad misses weekends spent visiting new breweries and trying their brews, he’ll surely love this “beer of the month” club that comes recommended by Nikki McCutcheon, the beverage director at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge at the Moxy Times Square hotel. For $39 a month, the service will send monthly deliveries of four varieties of award-winning beer from two independent craft breweries (a total of 12 beers per delivery), all of which are curated by a panel of experts.
For the dad who’d rather brew his own beer  Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Beer Making Kit
This kit comes with everything he needs to brew his first batch of beer, including hops, IPA grain mix, and reusable equipment (glass fermentation jug, thermometer, racking cane, tubing, tubing clamp, screw-cap stopper, and airlock). If he wants to try making a different brew, all you need to do is get another beer mix.
For the dad who starts cocktail hour at 5 o’clock on the dot  Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. Classic Tonic Syrup
When he’s that rigorous about his nightly ritual, he probably won’t use any old ingredients to make his nightly gin and tonic. According to bartenders, this small-batch tonic syrup made with a hint of lemongrass and orange peel will take his drink of choice to the next level.
For the (minimalist) dad who starts cocktail hour at 5 o’clock on the dot  Herb & Lou Infused Cocktail Ice Cubes
Maybe dad appreciates a good cocktail but not having all the ingredients and gear needed to make one littered around the house. These ice cubes are actually freezable fruit-and herb-infused mixers that take the fuss out of creating a fancy cocktail at home. They arrive unfrozen, so all dad has to do is pop them in the freezer and then, once frozen, pop one in a glass then pour his favorite spirit over it, and voilà! His drink is served. They’re available in five different flavors — the Cooper (blood orange ginger), the Cecile (cucumber and watermelon margarita), the Clyde (peach with benedectine), the Oliver (an “unclassic” negroni), and the Seymour (Meyer lemon daiquiri) — which you can buy individually at $36 for 24 cubes, or in sets for a bit more money.
For the dad who’s a teetotaler  Seedlip Distilled Non-Alcoholic Spirits, Garden 108
Bartenders agree that Seedlip’s non-alcoholic spirits are among the best you can buy, with the Garden 108 flavor being one of their favorites for its “herbaceous, bright, and spring-y” taste. The pros say It’s best used in light, floral cocktails or just with a splash of tonic water.
For the dad whose drug of choice is caffeine  Trade Coffee Monthly Subscription
Help him find some new favorite varieties of mud to sip on with a subscription from barista-approved Trade, which sends coffee hand picked for him based on his preferences. Does he use a drip machine or a Chemex? Prefer light, medium, or dark roast? Plans start at $15 for one bag shipped every one to three weeks. If you up that to two bags at a time, each one drops to $12.50 a piece.
For the dad who always takes his coffee with a pastry  Porto’s Bakery Cheese Rolls
Porto’s, a Los Angeles–based Cuban bakery and cafe chain, normally sees lines out the door no matter the time of day. While most people may not be waiting in lines for anything these days, nobody ever really wants to to begin with — and, thankfully, no longer needs to (at least at Porto’s), because the bakery will ship its treats nationwide. These sweet (cream) cheese rolls are one of the most popular items on the menu, and all dad has to do is heat up the oven to get that fresh-baked experience at home.
For the dad who likes his peppers pickled  Matiz Piparras
Chef and food artist Laila Gohar says that these “spicy and briny” pickled peppers “add a nice bite to a lot of dishes,” which is why they are one of her favorite jarred foods. Of course, they’re just as delicious on their own — Gohar also told us she eats them straight from the jar — and would make for a most satisfying snack.
For the dad who likes his fish pickled  Russ & Daughters Pickled Herring with Cream and Onions
The pickled herring with cream and onions from Russ & Daughters is this writer’s go-to gift for her dad, a pickled-herring connoisseur who thinks this the best there is. If you want to go all out, send him the eatery’s classic New York brunch spread (another favorite).
For the dad who spends every Saturday morning behind a griddle  Trees Knees Maple Gift Set
A pancake obsessive deserves only the best maple syrup. This trio of flavors from Bushwick Kitchen is bottled and blended in Brooklyn, with syrup tapped in the Catskill Mountains. The gift set includes a “spicy” maple syrup, one infused with gingerbread, and another infused with Stumptown coffee. They all come packaged in a gift box with a handwritten note to boot.
For the dad who spends every Saturday evening behind a grill  Pat LaFrieda Meats x Goldbelly Steak + Burger Sampler
Grilling season is upon us, so send your dad the gift of meat via Pat LaFrieda, who supplies the burgers at Shake Shack, Minetta Tavern, and Eleven Madison Park. This sampler includes four gold label burgers and two dry-aged bone-in rib steaks that all together serves six to eight people.
For the dad who could always go for a slice or two  Di Fara Pizza Classic Neapolitan Pizza
In a city with slice joints on every corner, Di Fara is one of those New York City institutions of pizza that lures folks all the way to Midwood, Brooklyn just to have a taste of one of its pies. Since dad probably won’t be making that trek for some time, you can instead surprise him with two of the world’s best pizza pies, wherever he is.
For the dad who could always go for a (square) slice or two  Prince Street Pizza Spicy Spring
Admittedly, $125 for two pies is steep, but Prince Street Pizza’s are also the stuff of legend — especially its spicy pepperoni pizza, which is topped with pepperoni slices that curl into little cups and pool with oil upon baking (that’s a great thing, by the way).
For the dad who’s nuts for nuts  Large Mixed Nut Sampler
This two-pound tray comes with jumbo natural pistachios, milk chocolate peanuts and raisins, butternut peanuts, jumbo roasted and salted cashews, and sugar-toasted peanuts for the dad who loves to nosh. (If he prefers a bucket of pistachios, or a classic tin of mixed nuts, those are available, too.)
For the dad whose closet is full of salmon colored shorts  McLoons Lobster Shack Maine Lobster Roll Kit
He might not be able to get to his favorite spot in Maine anytime soon, but you can recreate a tiny bit of that experience by sending him some of the best lobster rolls in the state. From McLoons Lobster Shack, this kit comes with everything he needs to make four delectable, summery sandwiches: a pound of lobster tail, knuckle, and claw meat, New England–style split top rolls, Casco Bay Artisan Sea Salt Butter, and mayonnaise.
For the dad who’s more of a crab guy  Cameron’s Seafood Maryland Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes
These authentic Maryland crab cakes that come from Cameron’s Seafood are made from Chesapeake Bay crabs that, according to the company, build up extra fat stores during the winter, making them sweeter and more buttery than crabs from other places.

The Banality of Impeachment (WSJ)
The Banality of Impeachment; The hearings are a pro-forma march to a foregone conclusion.
Editorial, WSJ, 13  November 2019
American Presidents have long asked foreign leaders for actions or policy cooperation that serve a President's personal political interest. Recall when President Obama was caught in 2012 on a hot mic telling then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to ask Vladimir Putin to give him diplomatic "space" until after Mr. Obama's re-election when he would have more room to maneuver on the issue of missile defenses. He was under fire from Republicans for being soft on Russia, so that surely was a request in Mr. Obama's personal political interest.
Appropriate requests to foreign leaders include reducing corruption, which was one of Mr. Zelensky's campaign planks. Joe Biden and Hunter Biden don't have immunity from such a probe simply because Joe Biden is running for office against Mr. Trump. If Democrats think that mentioning the Bidens is impeachable, they should also investigate the political context in which Mr. Trump made this request. That would include calling Hunter Biden, as well as Alexandra Chalupa, a contractor for the Democratic National Committee who allegedly worked with Ukrainian officials in 2016 on opposition research against the Trump campaign.
Mr. Trump's actions also can't be separated from Democratic attempts in 2016 to use Russian disinformation to unleash an FBI counterintelligence operation against the Trump campaign. This was one of the dirtiest political tricks in history, yet Democrats and the impeachment press justify it to this day.
House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff plans only five days of public hearings, and he has already heard the witnesses in secret. Mr. Schiff won't allow most witnesses requested by Republicans, notably the whistleblower who started it all and Hunter Biden. Perhaps Democrats have some new bombshell they've uncovered, but that has not been the pattern. What they learn, they quickly leak to the impeachment press.
***
The impeachment case—after the failure of non-collusion with Russia and the non-obstruction of Robert Mueller—now boils down to President Trump's dealings over a few weeks this summer with new Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. Readers who want to save time should read Mr. Schiff's opening statement Wednesday because it offers the most damning interpretation of events.
Mr. Schiff's claim is that Mr. Trump sought to "condition, coerce, extort or bribe an ally into conducting investigations to aid his re-election campaign." He did this by having his Administration threaten to withhold U.S. military aid and deny an Oval Office meeting until Mr. Zelensky publicly announced a corruption probe. That sums up the case.
We are not defending Mr. Trump's phone call with Mr. Zelensky or any plan to deny military aid. Sending his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, to lobby Ukrainian officials outside formal U.S. diplomatic channels was dumb, ran counter to Mr. Trump's own policy, and was ultimately self-destructive.
Mr. Giuliani was hardly quiet about his efforts, and it appears that most of the American bureaucracy had heard something about it. Mr. Trump's former national security adviser, John Bolton, opposed it. In the end the aid was delivered and Mr. Zelensky never began a corruption investigation. Like much else in this Administration, Mr. Trump's worst impulses were blocked.
Mr. Schiff says this is still an impeachable "abuse of power" because criminals can be prosecuted if their attempts fail. But there is no underlying crime here. Democrats have given up calling it a "quid pro quo," which must not have played well in polling. Instead they are using "extortion" and "bribery" to suggest a crime without citing any specific statute.
The Justice Department has already dismissed the bribery claim because there was no "thing of value" exchanged. And the extortion charge is absurd regarding U.S. aid to a foreign government.

That would include calling Hunter Biden, as well as Alexandra Chalupa, a contractor for the Democratic National Committee who allegedly worked with Ukrainian officials in 2016 on opposition research against the Trump campaign. If there's nothing to Mr. Trump's claims here, wouldn't this boost the Democratic impeachment case with the American public?
Mr. Trump's actions also can't be separated from Democratic attempts in 2016 to use Russian disinformation to unleash an FBI counterintelligence operation against the Trump campaign. This was one of the dirtiest political tricks in history, yet Democrats and the impeachment press justify it to this day.
Mr. Trump's Giuliani gambit failed amid opposition from his own government. The Clinton-financed Steele dossier worked in triggering an FBI probe that eventually morphed into the Mueller investigation that undermined the Trump Presidency for two years. When it comes to inviting foreign meddling in U.S. politics, Democrats and the impeachment press have a double standard.
***
In a healthier political culture, Democrats would be using the Ukraine episode as an argument against Mr. Trump's re-election. How can you trust his foreign-policy judgment in a second term when he won't have the check of another re-election?
Instead Democrats have pulled out the constitutional bazooka of impeachment. They are doing so in partisan fashion, contrary to their earlier pledges, and in a political rush to beat the 2020 political calendar. On the evidence and the process to date, they are turning impeachment into a routine political weapon, and future Presidents of both parties will regret it.
