As today is Lantern Festival (元宵节), mum went to the market to buy Roasted Pork, Char Siu, Pork & Shrimp Dumpling and three packs of rice to offer to the ancestors and gods. After the prayer is done, we will eat these dishes for our lunch and maybe dinner too.

made coleslaw tonight and it turned out fairly well, not as mushy and sweet as grocery store coleslaw so that's a win. however, I made far too much veggie mix and now I'm wondering if I could make veggie dumplings this weekend...

ive never had wonton soup but it was mentioned in a comedy/cooking podcast my dad listens to and i haven't stopped thinking about it since.
#(mournfully) I need to make it but dumplings are the one thing I can't make#I'm planning on making a basic version with rice paper wrappings instead of normal dumpling wrappings but#Still. I simply am not good at folding dumplings#my nails tear the wrappings and they fall apart as I cook them#I'm very good at cooking most things but . Rice paper makes a great “dough” for dumplings, these are made in 20mins and even gluten free! 😋

RECIPE (2 servings, 20min prep time):
Filling:
-1 onion
-2 cloves garlic
-2 carrots
Finely chop and fry in some oil.
-200g tofu or mushrooms
-3 Tbsp soy sauce
-1 Tbsp vinegar
-1 Tbsp agave
-1/2 Tsp ginger powder
-2 Tsp corn starch
Stir everything in.
-10 pieces rice paper
Cut the rice paper in half, dip in water and lay two pieces on each other.
Add some filling and fold to close.
Fry in oil until crispy everywhere.

i ate prawn dumpling soup today and now i no longer hate the world and everything in it

one of the worst ways to just think youre dying is a poor diet fucking your day. like why do i feel terrible. oh i need to eat. noodles. why do i still feel terrible

My family’s Offerings for our ancestors and gods at home. Mum usually buys either roasted chicken (is deep fried actually) or roasted duck with a soup (dumplings or fish balls) and rice whereas in temple, the offering is always vegetarian with coffee or tea.
After the joss papers (金纸) and hell money (冥鈔) had been offered (burned), mum used the Moon Blocks (筊杯) or two coins to ask if the ancestors and gods had finished “consuming” the food. If the answer is “No”, we give them another 5-10 minutes before asking again. Once we get a “Yes”, it is our turn to eat Lunch.

Desk + Spice
“Lena?”
Lena lifts her head at the sound of her wife’s voice, smiling when she sees her poking her head through the door.
“Kara… what are you doing here?”
“You didn’t come home,” Kara says as she enters the office. “I know you said you were gonna be late but I felt bad thinking about you being here all night.”
Lena blushes and tilts her head.
With everyone else gone, the floor is nice and quiet. The hall lights are off, as well as the ones in Lena's space-- save for the planet lamp on her desk. It's easier to focus when it's like this. Easier to think.
“Darling, I’m always here all night.”
“I know. But now, you can be here all night with Chinese food!”
Kara sets down the bags of takeout she’s carrying onto Lena’s desk and takes a seat on the other side.
“Do you want to eat here or on the couch?”
From years of knowing her, she’s learned to never ask ‘do you want to take a dinner break’. Asking implies choice— and given the choice, Lena will always pick work. So she offers desk or couch. They’ll eat wherever Lena wants, as long as it means Lena’s taking a break and getting some real food in her.
“Desk,” Lena responds.
She clears out some of her papers and sets them on the floor, then moves her tablet and laptop aside to make room for Karas feast.
“How was your day?” Lena asks as they unpack. “Give the new interns hell?”
There’s potstickers, rice, and dumplings for Kara in one bag. Then soup with noodles and spring rolls in set aside for Lena.
"Only a little."
Lena raises an eyebrow.
“Okay, but I tried not to. They’re just so— they don’t listen! They make me feel like I’m turning into Cat.”
“What does that mean?” Lena asks, smiling.
“I said chop chop like three times today,” Kara explains with an embarrassed sigh. She flushes bright red at the way Lena struggles to withhold her laughter. “Look— if you were there, you would’ve said it too. I was drowning!”
“Oh- be careful with that one,” Lena adds as Kara reaches for a spring roll. “It’s spicy.”
“I like spice.”
Questioningly, Lena's brow lowers.
“I do!” Kara insists. She takes a bite, immediately making a face when it hits her. It goes from zero to a hundred in seconds-- feels like her mouth is actually being lit on fire.
She swallows, then chases it by chugging her entire bottle of water, and letting out a long exhale when she's done.
"You were right," she says. "I don't like spice."

Ok imagine We have a Single dad Namjoon and the maknae line as his three kids.
Namjoon who divorced his ex because of differences and she took a job abroad leaving the kids on him. Leaving twins Taehyung and Jimin with him Jungkook is his god child?(and he'd already bonded with the little boy as they were neighbours too). Jungkook's parents were his good friends but they died and the others of Jungkook's family didn't want him. Jungkook the shy innocent baby, Taehyung who is the most mischievous but also befriends every one, Jimin who was innocent and caring and sensitive but all of them were still young.
And we have the you. A someone enjoying her single life and career. But you love cooking Maybe cause you came from a big family so when you learned cooking it was in big batches. And so you continued making large portions and putting them into a separate freezer unit you bought on sale so you can reheat and eat it and not have to think about meals throughout the week.
So whenever you has extra left over you give it to neighbours. (Feed thy neighbours)
And you meet Namjoon newly shifted because he got a good job and the area is a good neighbourhood.
The three 'munchkins' as you call them are so cute so whenever they request for something you include that for next time (even though the kids have some questionable suggestionslike chips in rice) . The kids have interesting ideas. It's also fun to feed them different cuisines. Sometimes they even help you and it feels nice to make dumplings together even if they are funny shapes sometimes.
One day when he's busy you even go to the kid's school because someone was bullying Jungkook. Jungkook hugs you and even calls you mom and your heart softens for the boy. (You decide to teach him self defense too later.)
So when Namjoon gets a promotion. He goes to buy his kids toys for Christmas. Buys good card stock paper and writes you a letter (probablythe sweetest one you've ever recieved). Thanking you cause he had been struggling making dinner and ordering out was unhealthy. Many times youe meals saved his day. He puts in some cash in an envelope and gives it to you next time you come. A little Christmas gift. Because you were sent to him as a blessing from the universe.
You didn't have to.
I wanted to. You were the first one I wanted to tell.
Yes you enjoyed a single life but you could understand why someone would dedicate themselves to kids too.
Like When Taehyung came from school after you taught him math and hugged you. Or when Jimin saved most if not all his pocket money to buy you a beautiful dinner set. Or when shy Jungkook came after school religiously helping you prep ingredients and learned how to cook your comfort meal (because you got sick one day and wanted your comfort meal) and your favourite meal (to surprise you for your birthday) .It nice to go on picnics with them or camping with them. It was nice when you felt to drowsy to move by the campfire. Namjoon put a shawl on you so you don't catch a cold. Or when Namjoon 'rescued' you from a date and treated you to cheesy fries after.
So yeah that's it.
