So Reylos are now freaking out over episode 4 of Ahsoka cause Anakin showed up in what appears to be the wbw. I have not watched Ahsoka and don't plan to. I personally think that nothing will come out of this in regards to Ben Solos return. People think Leia sacrificed herself to send Ben there? If she sacrificed herself to save him then he wouldn't have gone anywhere he would have been alive.
Anyone who thinks there was planning or thought behind anything in tros is delusional.
Thinking they're setting up Ben's resurrection is almost as removed from reality.

Just started TLJ for fun because it was a Long Day and I wanted some form of distraction that didn't involve the current Ghost Crew kinda high stakes episode I was halfway through and I must say..... this is so strange to me
#the brief scenes with paige just gutted me#you know that post about the unnamed servant in king lear (i THINK it's king lear at least) that has that cs lewis quote#that's paige. like. that's literally her that's her role in the story that's what she chooses to do and that's why#poe's Personally Sanctioned mission to destroy the dreadnought or whatever it's called succeeds. it's because of her#not gonna lie i wish we saw more of her!!!!!#anyhow there are a lot of things that were little gems. like our intro to rose is her sitting alone in an empty space sobbing#because she lost her sister as she's clutching the matching necklace. that was a really good bit#and finn being like. WHERE'S REY. HOW CAN SHE GET TO US IN THIS CHAOS.#and the sheer intensity of rage from kylo ren#unlike many of my fellow tumblr girlies (please don't burn me at the stake for this) i don't find adam driver very attractive and am a bit#puzzled as to what makes people like him So Much (mentally i'm like ???? which is my reaction to timothee chalamet enthusiasm too)#but i can give him one thing. he's absolutely terrifying. the intensity and sheer out of control FORCE of his anger terrifies ME#probably on the same level as hayden's anakin does tbh#i jumped a little when he punched the elevator wall. that man has got Deep Seated Issues that he REALLY needs to work out at this point#there are also bits of this movie that REALLY confuzzle me#like leia's force hovering through space (????) and poe's anger/control/defiance (??????????)#and also LUKE GIVING UP????? i was like. well the video essay peeps on youtube were right about THIS bit being#the Worst Part Thus Far. a luke skywalker abandoning hope is a luke skywalker i'm struggling to recognize#anyhow more thoughts incoming...... class has started and media analysis brain is on#is it EVER OFF THOUGH LOL#tlj liveblog

They should have played with last names more in TROS. It would have been fun. 'cause two of the three mains do not have a surname due to sad childhoods and so on, but the way they ended, with Rey taking the name Skywalker, doesn't work for me at all.
I'm picturing a scenario where sometime near the beginning of the movie, Finn needs a last name temporarily just to lie about for some reason or other. And he's like Poe can I borrow your last name. And Poe's like what are you trying to marry me or something? And Finn's like what? No! Wait was that on the table?
And then when the little girl at the festival asks Rey her family name she skips the asking part and just says Dameron strictly to annoy Poe
at the very end when the old lady asks who she is, she says it again! Rey Dameron! but this time it's not a joke, because the whole message of the movie is that they have each other and that's what matters most!!
There I just tied the thing together in a neat bow and it's only a little bit gay and it cuts out the weird bit where she just decides to be a Skywalker even though frankly that family is a nightmare and I'm pretty sure most of the galaxy would love to never hear the name again.

This is a Mandalorian season 3 finale rant (There might be cursing because I need to vent my frustrations)
Yeah, I really hated the season 3 finale of Mando. It’s the most boring, uninspired poorly directed, written and edited Star Wars in a fucking while. Easily the worst episode of Star Wars television as a fucking whole to me
what the fuck happened
It's sad because I was enjoying this season, but holy shit, for a show that was always good because of its emotional beats, they sure missed a lot of them (Unless your name is Grogu, of course, ops. Din Grogu urghhhhhh).  It was so fucking emotionless and fucking anticlimatic.
I have to be honest
I don't care that much about Grogu. “But the show is about him.” He is not the main relationship that Din has in this season! That is Bo-Katan. It's ridiculous how these characters have grown close to each other since the Mines and the writer finds the most emotionless way to reunite them again and split them again and the director just doesn't extract fabulous performances of them as well and the editing just chooses the most uninspired shots.
It fucking bothers me the most is that this show is so concerned with what's coming next that they are forgetting what makes Star Wars so fucking cool: The relationships. Bo-Katan and Din have been saving each other's asses, sharing different perspectives to each other, swearing loyalty and they don't even get a goodbye scene.
“Maybe because they are not saying goodbye.”
BULLSHIT.
It's like you get The Force Awakens with Rey and Finn becoming friends, but without the moment that solidifies the bond from Rey’s part, which is when she says: "We'll see each other again. I believe that. Thank you, my friend." Was it so difficult to have them aknowledging the journey they went through together before they went separate ways? I just don’t get it how you miss such a simple and obvious emotional beat like this.
It doesn’t fucking stop there. Of course.
Bo-Katan does not seem happy at all when she lights up that Forge. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I WONDER WHY. Could it because a fucking tin man who promised to serve her until her life was over is not fucking there? And people will say “You’re delusional.” No. This woman was flirting with him two episodes ago, she’s been looking at him since the Mines in a way that she does not look at any other Mandalorian (and you all can deny it however you want, but the way Katee is directed in those scenes just don’t lie) and they just make him go away.
You fucking with me? You gotta be fucking with me.
And you think that’s all?
Hmm. Not really.
Ragnar loses his father, who was also clearly the Armorer's favorite son and there’s no reaction, no aknowledgement of his death. Instead we got a whole "take the creed" scene, like, godamnit, have some fucking compassion for crying out loud.
Moff Gideon destroying the darksaber is so awful. It doesn't work as a symbolism because he wanted that thing. It should've been Bo-Katan who destroyed it and that would pay off Din's line about the sword not being what determines who she is as a leader.
Oh and Gideon dies, but not really because we know characters don’t really die in explosions in Star Wars and it’s so. fucking. ridiculous. What a moment this would be if this kill belonged to Bo-Katan. Because... I don’t know, the whole season is about her.
*takes a deep breath*
I fucking hated this episode.
*takes another deep breath*
Wake me up when Din and Bo are a duo again and they are allowed to have their romance.
This finale was so not the fucking Way.
Not even in Star Wars TV. Probably easily my most hated piece of a Star Wars media. “You are a Rise of Skywalker enjoyer.” I AM. Because you know, for all its flaws, at least that films understand emotional bits and this finale just doesn’t.

If the Slipper Fits
Pairings: Kylo Ren x ForceSensitive!Reader
Summary: Nobody wants to be the woman whose foot fits that slipper.
Warnings: none that I can think of, but please let me know if you notice one
Word Count: 1.7k
A/N: Kylo is back next chapter👀
Part Seven
Morning comes quicker than you would’ve liked.
With the lack of windows and sunlight, you could’ve slept forever, and you probably would’ve if not for the stream of admirers coming to congratulate you on escaping the castle and surviving the stonebadger attack. Word travels fast in the caves, apparently.
You’re not entirely sure that it didn’t have to do with Rey, though, who repeatedly retold the story of finding you cornered in the hot springs with gusto. The first few times you listened good-naturedly, but grew tired of reliving the moment after hearing it so many times. Especially because your thoughts focused rather traitorously on the moments preceding the one in her story, the ones that, gratefully, no one else was around to witness.
“I hope you’re not too tired for one more visitor,” came a voice, breaking you from your memories.
“Never,” you say, although you watch the former queen approach with an increasing sense of dread. Leia settles on the empty bed beside you.
In all honesty, she might’ve been the last person you wanted to speak with, besides maybe her son. If only she knew what transpired the night before. And if that wasn’t bad enough, you also were weary about following out her request to return to the castle and rescue Kylo, who you were mostly certain was incapable of being saved.
“How are you feeling?” Leia asks. “Rey is outside regaling a crowd with your heroics.”
You smile sheepishly. “I hardly did anything worth noting. Her and Poe were the ones to stop it, not me.”
“Either way, it’s clear that she thinks highly of you,” Leia says. A mask slips over her face then, replacing the expression of motherly concern to one of a diplomatic queen. “I’m not going to pretend that my motives for visiting you aren’t partially because I was hoping for your answer.”
“I know,” you reply. Frankly, you would be insulted if she believed you thought anything else.
“I realize you haven’t been able to give much thought to, with everything,” she says, waving her hand to encompass the events over the past day.
You wince. “No, not really.”
It’s a lie. In your waking moments, all you’ve thought about was your current situation.
“I sent a message to Luke on the off chance that you accept,” Leia says. “He hasn’t taught anyone…well, in a very long time. In fact, his last student was Ben.”
“Really? What happened?”
Leia’s lips purse. “It’s really not my place to say. Let’s just leave it that Ben and my brother do not get along.”
You frown but know not to press. This made you curious about the royal family, and about Kylo Ren himself. He killed his own father, banished his mother, and now you’ve been told that he had a poor relationship with his uncle. And you thought that your family life was messy.
“Do you think he’s even willing to help?” You ask.
“It’s hard to say,” Leia admits. “But he’s always had a tendency to do whatever I tell him.”
You think back to the stonebadger attack and, annoyingly enough, Kylo’s tough love training tactic. You hated to admit he was right. It wouldn’t have been a problem if you knew magic, if you could bend the Force to your will. You needed someone to teach you. And to have Luke Skywalker, one of the greatest magic-users of all time partake in that? You would be ridiculous to decline such an offer.
But you’re not sure you’re ready to accept yet.
Leia opens her mouth, but then closes it. Finally, she says, “I’m also not going to pretend that the information I’m about to present to you isn’t only for your benefit but also the benefit of my agenda.”
“I’m listening.”
At least she was being truthful. You could handle the truth, not hidden and distorted in lies like shadows in a mirror.
“The fourth district is…rebelling, I suppose, for lack of a word.” She pauses as if to let you process this information. You don’t tell her that you already know. “They aren’t letting anyone in, including us. I believe our ambitions are the same but…well, nevermind. What I’m trying to say is, it’s not happening peacefully. And I’m not sure how they plan to survive without anyone in, not even shipments.”
Leia referred to the rations that the First Order sent weekly to each district in a bid to share resources while also ensuring that one district never became too powerful. The First Order controlled food supplies, clothing, and other essentials.
You frown. You know that your district isn’t self sustainable, and that denying the shipments will be detrimental to its survival.
“Why would they do that?” You ask.
Leia shakes her head. “I’m not sure. Rumor has it that they’re rebelling for you, though.”
“For me?” Your frown deepens, brows pulling downwards. “I don’t understand.”
"Word caught about your stepmother hiding away your stepsisters, and how unfair your treatment was. I believe that, in combination with taking girls from each district, incited quite a bit of rage. They're angry about the whole system, calling for the First Order to step down."
“Isn't that what you want, too?"
"It is," Leia sighs. "But they seem to think that, since I'm leading, I would just perpetuate the system and no real changes would be made." Her face twists. "It's my own fault. I sat back and allowed too much to happen without interfering. But that's why I want to do better."
"But you need me," you add, giving voice to the words she left unsaid.
"I believe the first step is saving Ben from Palpatine, and then perhaps we can start to dismantle this terrible system." She looks at you in earnest. "But I didn't just tell you about your district for my own gain. If you go back to the castle and separate yourself from me, you might be able to reason with your district."
You pull the covers up tighter around you, as if they could protect you from your troubles. "But wouldn't I just be aligning myself with Kylo?"
"Yes, but you would be more sympathetic that way. Part of the reason they're rebelling is because he took you. I think you might have a shot," she says, lifting a shoulder. "At least more than you do here. They won't even listen to me."
"How long do I have to think on it?"
"I'm sending another patrol tomorrow afternoon to the castle to investigate how they're rebuilding after the surprise we gave them," Leia says. "I'll leave you until then."
You’re discharged later in the afternoon with instructions on how to properly care for your wound. Equipped with directions from the medic, you head to the barracks. It’s along the way that you overhear snippets of conversation from passing rebels, enough bits and pieces to form a singular focal point.
“—my sister lives in the fifth district, and she told me that nobody came for them today.”
“No more brides?”
“I heard that girl from the fourth district —”
You scurry away. Based on the tone of the last person, you didn’t want to hear what they had to say. Finally you hit the barracks, which is a series of connected rooms featuring several bunk beds. A familiar set of buns falls into your view, and you rush to Rey’s side.
“Is it true what they’re saying?”
Rey startles, then exclaims your name. “It’s you! I didn’t think they would let you out so early. With all of the blood —”
“Is it true? There hasn’t been another bride today?” You ask, slightly hysteric.
Rey frowns. “It’s true.” She studies you skeptically. “Are you sure you’re okay? Did the medics give you a psych eval? Because I can bring you back and —”
You shake your head. “No, no, I’m fine. Really. I just can’t believe it.”
“Crazy, huh?” Rey asks. “It’s the first time in over a year. I don’t think people know what to do with themselves.”
The thought elicits a myriad of emotions within you — delight, surprise, relief. You hadn’t thought about Kylo picking a new bride, but discover you’re glad he didn’t. Would you have been jealous? It’s not an avenue you particularly want to explore.
“Has he said why?”
“Kylo? No. He just hasn’t sent out any troopers with the slipper.” She shrugs. “We probably won’t ever figure out why, but I think I know why.”
When you look at her, bewildered, she laughs and adds, “C’mon, it’s because of you! Obviously he’s found whatever he’s looking for.”
“Why isn’t he coming looking for me then?” You ask in a hushed tone. This has bothered you. His words — you’ll be back — haunt you.
“Maybe he is and we just don’t know it. Whatever the reason, I just know that he wouldn’t let you go unless he had something planned. You saw how he is, he obviously just doesn’t let something go that he thinks is his.” She curses. “Bastard.”
His words strike you again. The smugness, the all-knowing tilt of his head. It makes your blood boil, relighting the flame inside you.
“He knows I’ll come back to him,” you mumble. Stiffening your spine, you tell Rey, “I don’t know if I have a choice not to. But the least I can do is make sure I do it on my own terms.”
Leia glances up at you from her desk. “I’ve been expecting you,” she says.
What was with this family and anticipating your movements?
You left Rey alone and rather confused, fleeing to hunt down the room that Leia used as her own personal office. Thankfully she was there, because your side was splitting with pain and you weren’t sure you could’ve traveled farther.
Resisting the urge to lean over with your hands on your knees and breathe in through your mouth, you plop down in one of the chairs across from the former queen.
“I want to do it.”
Leia perks up. “Really?”
“Yes.” You do your best to look confident. “But I’m going to do it on my terms. Not yours or Kylo’s. Mine.”
“Of course. Anything,” Leia says.
Emboldened, you make your first request: “I’m tired of always doing what I’m told. If I’m going to save Kylo, I’m going to do it independently of you or anyone else. I’m going to operate alone.”

I love these 3 so much and I just couldn't help but write some Headcannons!!!
Regressor!Poe Dameron, Rey Skywalker & Finn Headcannons
Tumblr media
First things first they all regress to different ages. I think Finn regresses the oldest, followed by Rey and then Poe. (When I say this I mean more so when they are together, if they are regressed without the others I think the ages change a bit) buttttt I think that Finn would be around the 7-9 age range, he's the oldest and he likes the big brother role he gets to take on. I don't think Rey would be too far behind age range wise, I think she'd regress to about 6. Poe is the youngest, he regresses anywhere from 3-5.
Rey is incredibly chaotic, not on purpose but she tends to act and do things without thinking of any potential consequences. Poe causes trouble (all in good fun of course) but yea he's super chaotic. Finn normally gets dragged into chaos but he's never quite sure how it happens as he's definitely the calmest out of the three.
Despite Poe being the youngest I actually don't think he'd be the most energetic, he may cause chaos but he's just too small and he needs frequent naps to make up for the fact that he gets sleepy from how energetic he gets. However Rey? Oh boy, this kiddo has endless amounts of energy.
BB-8 has taken the fall for them several times when things have got broken be that either by covering for them (giving them an air tight alibi that absolutely noone believes cause they all know that BB will do absolutely anything for Poe and the others) or even by taking the blame.
I'm honestly just imagining Leia walking into Poe's room to talk to him (cause like that's his mum lets not lie 🙌) and she just sees the three kids just all small. Rey's bouncing on the bed whilst Finn is telling her to stop, maybe with a kids book in his hands or something whilst Poe is colouring quietly, thumb in his mouth whilst BB-8 just chills with them. She kinda just nods and leaves, coming back a bit later with a bunch of snacks. Leia is very busy a lot of the time but she's happy to indulge the three whenever she can.
Movie nights >>> Just picture the three of them cuddled up on the sofa whilst watching a kids film. Poe absolutely falls asleep within half an hour.
Chewbacca has babysat the three kids on multiple occasions and he cannot tell if he loves or hates the experience.
Finn can and has braided Rey's hair several times, he is very good at it and no one knows how. Poe tries to copy him (he struggles and can't really do it) Finn has tried teaching him though.
Poe likes making stuff (robot and engineering stuff!!!) But when with the others he's too small to really do those things so they try to help him. They have to have supervision by either Leia, BB-8 or Chewbacca however to do that!!!

As much as I dislike the route they went in tros I do think I wouldn’t have disliked it as much if.
1. They kept Rey as a nobody. Having Palpatine lie and having her not taking the Skywalker name
2. Had Rose be in the group instead of Chewie or the worm thingy at the beginning of the movie (let the new cast have more screen time)
3. Have Ben be with Rey during the final fight instead of being blasted into a hole, and if he had to die (which I won’t get into) have the epilogue be Rey searching for a way to resurrect him instead of burying lightsabers…Finish what Anakin started with triumphing over death.
Completely agree with all of this!
Rey should have been a nobody, and they shouldn’t have even entertained the idea of her being a Palpatine. I would have loved for her at the end of her journey to come to the conclusion that just Rey is enough. I think that would have been so powerful.
Yes yes yes!! Rose should not have stayed back at the base for the entire movie doing... I don’t even know what she doing? Klaud was such a pointless character??? Like... why would they take him on a mission instead of Rose? She should have 100% been involved with the main crew. And yes to letting the new ST characters have more screen time!
Rey and Ben defeating the villain together is what should have happened. It doesn’t make sense for Rey to be able to do it on her own. They told us their dyad is a power like life itself. They are two that are one. They need to be together for great things to happen.
Ben should not have died. That is the main thing that breaks the story. (Also Kylo Ren symbolically died and Ben was reborn... but that’s another story.) Unless, as you said, they were planning to bring him back. Have the ending be Rey hearing Ben call out to her from the WBW or something along those lines. They could have made it feel like an ending of this chapter, but left the door open for the next chapter. Leaving us feeling hopeful.
Finish what Anakin started with triumphing over death.
THIS!!! I love that.

I also heard recently that apparently Reylos made up all of their harrassment as a cover for their racism in not shipping Finn/Rey, and to be perfectly honest with you I think racism is not a fandom-specific issue but kind of a social issue where you aren't insulated from it based on what you do or don't ship? And shipping isn't political activism? I wouldn't be granted rhetorical immunity if I did, in fact, ship Finn/Rey, because I could equally be responsible for perpetuating racism in writing their dynamic (and in addition to that, romantic relationships are not free of sexism or racism; how does this immunity hold coherently at all?) and in fact, I don't like Finn/Rey because I don't like enjoy how it services their characters. If Boyega were cast as the main villain we'd be having a different conversation.
If you wanted to reckon specifically with the ST's racism, we can start with TFA where TFA refuses to expand upon Finn's psychological evolution and turns him into a sanitation worker as a fucking dramatic punchline at the end of the film, or is unceremoniously knocked out by Kylo so he can't do anything narratively? Or just being there for bathos-esque quips? No matter what you say about TLJ, Finn's epic confrontation with Phasma and the potential of a Stormtrooper rebellion is there, and instead in TROS it's turned into... some people are just born right and others deserve to be Stormtroopers. *shrug*
That is not a fucking Reylo problem. That is, in the first place, teasing Finn as the 'main' character and then doing a reversal with Rey, and choosing to focus a new Star Wars series on the Skywalkers again. A Black Jedi with his own original story not contingent upon white legacy characters could've worked but by design it was not made so, and then they erased his character from Chinese marketing anyway. That should tell you were D/isney's priorities lie. If they actually had any gumption that is what they would've done following the ST to mop up what they did with Finn and actually got onboard original storytellers who were not looking to rehash nostalgiabait.
I'm particularly sore about this because I don't enjoy the implication that racism is a fandom-specific issue or that fandom is where the conversation starts and ends, or not that on some level these commercial productions with millions of dollars behind them influence the conversation. Or that there is a competition of socially-minded interests. Or that if we got rid of the Bad Shipping fandoms we would only have the Good Ones left with no problems forever. That's not how it works.
But inventing harrassment is an interesting accusation. We're just outright accusing each other of making up our experiences now? We're allowed to do that? I've never been 'in' the mainstream Reylo fandom enough and if there were evidence of Reylos behaving badly or, in the case of this context, being racist, I'd take it seriously as much as I can and challenge it, but I'm not sure what other authority I do have in intercommunity politics. Fandom doesn't work like that. There is only so much you can do. But accusing us of making up our experiences when I know that I personally keep to myself because of it is a new one.
I don't want to tell you the things I've seen or experienced myself in the Reylo fandom. Sure, the ceaseless crossfandom stuff is bullshit, but anti-Reylos are probably people I wouldn't get along with anyway and people can draw boundaries as they see fit. There are a bunch of ships and fandoms I don't want much to do with. I don't even think that anti-Reylos themselves are uniquely -ist in whatever given way; they probably just enjoy the opportunity to be sexist or racist or anti-Semitic against someone they think deserves it (and it always comes out when the opponent is sufficiently Of the Wrong Sort).
I think it is extremely dangerous to treat activism as a performative endeavour where I ship the right ships and interact with the text in the way I have been mandated to. Because it doesn't actually insulate me from racist behaviour or beliefs. I think it is true that there are times this notably happens, but equally, is shipping Finn/Poe alongside Rey/Kylo a way to mitigate this? How do we square it out?
I think this conversation with Reylo is probably over. Reylo's online legacy is always going to be mixed at best. But I don't think the anti-racist conversation begins or ends with it.

Ben: "Rey told me the full story of what happened on Exegol, including how she saw possible futures and pasts that never came to be. And I thought, what if ALL our potential selves barraged the corrupted crystals?"
Connor: "Let's try it."
Ben: "Alright. Among all the worlds imagineable, show me your greatest joy!"
Tumblr media
Daniel: "I see something... I'm back at the Spilph residence, once again serving them. I think I'm a household slave or droid, but I don't seem to mind. I love my family…"
Gavin: "I'm a cop, but not of the First Order. More like Old Republic or similar. I'm good, one of the best…"
Ben: "I'm traveling with my father, Luke Skywalker. We made an alliance with a group of Sith, I don't know to what purpose. There is one among them who really likes my jokes. I want to be near her."
Tumblr media
Daniel: "…but then they decide to replace me."
Gavin: "…still I get overlooked every time a promotion comes up. They bring in a new one, younger, fancy suit, has no feeling for the streets… but he's getting started as detective, same as myself."
Ben: "Walk away! Turn your back to those who are not worth your dedication!"
Connor: "No. Don't be afraid. Do what comes naturally."
Tumblr media
Daniel: "I confront my owners. It doesn't end well. I'm alone now, don't know how many I've killed. There's a negotiator, and I trust him. Maybe a single mistake isn’t the end? But he only wants to talk me down so that his companions can snipe me."
Gavin: "I confront the newcomer. I mean, he's fishy, somehow. But he's quicker, more clever. I lie on the floor, defeated, while he goes on to be the hero. Knowing this hurts more than the actual pain."
Ben: "Defeat…"
Daniel & Gavin: "I open my eyes. I see I'm not alone, after all. The same pain, in another's face. We felt secure, sheltered, but it had been a lie. Only now, united with our mirror, there's peace. Even if it's in a dark basement, awaiting an uncertain fate."
Ben: "Inner peace. Good. Let that feeling flow into the crystals!"
Tumblr media
Everywhere on the space station’s underside, the crystals charged with dark side energy resonate.
Tumblr media
They grow dull, eventually lose their hold on the rock, and drift aimlessly into space.
Their "alternate selves" are actually their canon selves from the franchises I borrowed them from.
Ben - Ben Skywalker in Star Wars Legends
Daniel - Daniel PL600 in Detroit: Become Human
Gavin - Gavin Reed in Detroit: Become Human
There’s a reason Connor sais nothing: He is both the negotiator in Daniel’s vision and the young upstart in Gavin’s.

In relation to people finding the idea that Lily and DE are separate in some way bad, and because it’s a topic I’m interested in, let’s discuss what makes a good or a bad plot twist in media.
Generally speaking a plot twist is defined as an unexpected development in a book, film, television program, etc. It can be predicted by some (more on this later), but generally it is hidden well enough that it won’t be seen by many.
Now, what makes a good plot twist? Generally speaking, there are two things that go into twists seen as good. A. it can be explained by build up or context in the narrative. As mentioned before, plot twists can be predicted or seen coming. In fact it’s important that some do see it coming as there should be hints in your narrative. A twist generally shouldn’t rely on a lie. B. It adds something to the narrative. If there is no reason for your plot twist to have existed, it can be argued to have been there for mere shock value.
A bad plot twist generally does not fit into this criteria. Let’s look at three examples of what are generally seen as good and bad plot twists in media (I will avoid to the best of my ability spoiling the twist as some of these are genuinely something to experience).
Let’s start with some good examples. The Witch’s House is an RPG maker game mostly known for its gameplay (make one mistake and get fucked) and it’s plot twist ending. If you pay attention to little details throughout the game, they provide context to the development. Journals, sprite changes, and dialogue from your designated save point (a black cat). And the twist in question most certainly adds to the game’s experience as it completely reshapes the story and how it’s viewed by many. Alleviating a meh story to one of the best in its genre.
Parasite, a movie from Korea, technically has two plot twists. Both of which have generally good build up to the moment of its reveal. With the second plot twist relying on hints provided in the first. It doesn’t come from no where yet still manages to be a shock to the system. And it adds context to why certain characters behave the way they do, as well as to its rather open ended/ambiguous ending.
Wreck it Ralph is the final one i want to look at. Throughout the movie, people speak of a certain concept that plays a key role in the explanation of where this twist came from. Not to mention hints on the part of actions taken by characters. This twist also contextualizes parts of the movie’s world. Including Vanellope’s glitch and demystifying what was an urban legend in the game’s world. Overall creating a moment of ‘OHHHHHHH’ for the audience.
Now for some bad plot twists. Twelve Minutes is a video game that relies on constantly one upping the audience at every turn. At first, the twists are reasonable and make for a story you want to piece together. Eventually however they become more outlandish and less justifiable by the context the game provides. As well as putting the game into some very, very weird contexts if you know one of the twists. It’s a game that seems to want to be smarter than it actually is.
Disney is considered the king of bad plot twists in recent years. Let’s just focus on one— the ending of The Rise of Skywalker. For one, there was a plot twist in the previous movie involving Rey’s origins (we can debate if it’s a good one). This movie turns it into a lie. Not to mention opens up a lot of plot inconsistencies. The entire twist seems to rely on explaining something that was already explained, as well as trying to again outsmart it’s audience. This whole outsmart thing is a common theme in bad twists, as merely being surprising and subversive is not the maker of a good plot twist.
As can be seen in our final movie, Big Hero Six. At this point this was is a meme. The twist relies on putting us in the same shoes as the hero— making us feel betrayed. Which… it does that, but in a bad way. As this is another plot twist that relies on a lie. At the risk of spoiling the twist (for those who might not know), a character being alive when previously thought to have been dead is not an inherently bad plot twist. But there needs to be proper build up which this movie did not have. We had no reason to think someone who died… died. And it brings into question why another character had to die. It does add context to the movie, but at what cost?
On top of what makes a good plot twist, we can now see common themes in a bad plot twist are a. Lies and b. The way in which the context it adds to a plot isn’t to the story’s benefit. With this in mind, let’s look back to CR.
For me it’s honestly hard to tell if the initial reveal of DE as White Lily was poor build up or not. A lot of people predicted it, but a lot of people predict bad plot twists that lack build up (Disney having twist villains is a meme at this point). My personal opinion is it works on paper but if this is the final plot twist of the story they showed their hand way too early. Some explain away Lily being there in the opening cinematic as having been a false retelling, but this opens the gates to the issue of a twist relying on a lie being a bad thing. As does Lily’s description, which places her as existing before, during, and after the dark flour war. Again, generally speaking you do not want to hide your twist by lying to your audience when there are numerous other ways to do it.
If however there are more layers to the plot twist and not everything is as it seems, it suddenly makes sense why they showed their hand so early. And why Lily exists where she shouldn’t There is a lot of build up already to the idea that some form of Lily exists separately f rom DE; namely her soul jam and Gingerbrave’s comments in Odyssey. A lot of people brush him aside cause he’s not the most impressive protag in fiction. But he is the protag and what he says matters. He is often the vehicle for which the devs hint at future plot points.
Do I think it’ll be the best plot twist? No, but it works and I wouldn’t call it bad. If you don’t like the idea of them being separate that’s fine but generally it works. And there’s a lot more to answer to if they aren’t separate based on what seems to make a good plot twist.
As a final note, no characters in the story thinking DE and Lily are the same is not a lie. Cause a. DE is a part of Lily regardless of where the plot goes and b. Characters not knowing or not having context they the audience does is common in fiction. What matters is if the story lies to the audience itself not to its characters. Characters having a false impression of what is going on is a key part of many stories.

Star Wars Movie Pride Headcanons
Obviously I can't do all the characters in Star Wars (movies or otherwise) so today I'll start with just the movie characters I find important or just fun!
Of course, these are just my opinions and it's totally cool if you have different ideas. Art is subjective and there are plenty of ways to engage with said art. This is just for my personal fun.
Luke Skywalker (he/him): Bisexual
I know people like Gay!Luke and that's totally fine, but... I just think of Legends!Luke and his wonderful wife Mara Jade, and I think Luke Skywalker is a man who can appreciate both Mara Jade and Ezra Bridger! Would be open to polyamory if it was like a throuple situation and everybody loved everybody.
Leia Organa (she/her): Bisexual
Now, I know the Leia book says she only likes humanoid males, but as someone who had a crush on both twins growing up, this headcanon is for me personally.
Han Solo (he/him): Bisexual
Okay, so most of these are going to be bisexual because I'm a stupid bisexual and I said so. Han Solo would flirt with anyone in the galaxy, including but not limited to Qi'ra, Lando Calrissian, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker.
Chewbacca (he/him): Ally (?)
Idk, tbh. He's got a wife and kid, and I think he thinks gay people are neat.
C-3PO and R2D2: Queer-platonic
They're droids and even though I do think droids can develop attraction like bio-species, I don't think these droids feel any attraction. Doesn't mean they don't have chemistry with each other though.
Lando Calrissian (he/they): Pansexual
He fucks. Everybody. I think Lando would be hand-wavy about gender. Most people use he/him with Lando, but they also enjoy they/them pronouns. Totally chill with polyamory.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (he/him): Graysexual
I really don't think this man knew he could have attraction until he met Satine Kryze. He just didn't think about it. It's not important. He probably scoffed at people who had issues following the Jedi Code. "What, like it's hard??"
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (he/him): Hetero-flexible
My man loves his wife (to quite an extreme degree actually). He's pretty sure he's straight? He's never thought of anybody but Padmé so it's not like he's really explored more. He wouldn't be opposed to dating men or other genders, though.
Wilhuff Tarkin (he/him): mlm
The only reason I'm including him on my list is because it's actually canon. He likes men. That's all I know on that front. I just had to include it because I was flabbergasted.
Yoda (he/him): Aro/Ace
All Yoda knows is talk funny, eat hot chip, and lie. (but actually he's a very wise master and mentor who loves his students and loves pulling a prank or two).
Padmé Naberrie/Amidala (she/her): Ally
Padmé loves her friends and family. She'd defend them with her life. I don't think homophobia exists in most areas of the SW universe, but if there was ever a time her friends felt marginalized, she'd be there to defend them. Whether that required just a simple talk, all the way to "aggressive negotiations."
Qui-Gon Jinn (he/him): Asexual
He feels like he could like somebody in a romantic sense. I don't think he'd hold on too heavily to the Jedi Code either. He just doesn't have the time. He's also never really wanted the sexual aspects of a relationship. I bet he gave all his Padawans "the talk" though.
Mace Windu(he/him): Aro/Ace
...and judgmental about it. Very sex-repulsed. He's not homophobic. He hates all PDA equally. Don't kiss in front of him. He will gag.
Rey (she/her): Pansexual
She just has a whole lotta love to give. :)
Finn (he/him): Bisexual
Rey's really hot. Poe's really hot. Why is everyone so hot???
Poe Dameron (he/him): Gay
Gay. Gay. Homosexual. Gay. (This is for Oscar Isaac. Luv u bby 😘) Poe looked at Finn like he was the first drop of water in the desert. And I think that's beautiful.
Rose Tico (she/her): Queer. Non-Binary.
Rose knows who she likes. She doesn't need a label to save what she loves. I think she still likes she/her pronouns, but doesn't necessarily like the label "woman."
That's the list! I'll be doing more Star Wars queer headcanons for people outside of the movies too! So be looking out for that, if you've read this far! Let me know if I've missed someone important from the movies and I'll add it later!

Smokey brand Reviews: Force Sensitivities episode II
I shill for Star Wars hard. I have for years, easily since i was a wee lil Smokey. I say that every time i start one of these essays or reviews because i want to be completely transparent about my bias. Darth Vader is easily one of, if not the, best cinema antagonist, ever, in my opinion. I love this cyborg asshole and everything about him. That first introduction in the beginning of Episode IV was everything. The second James Earl Jones' brilliantly dubbed voice boomed onscreen was it for me. Darth Vader as my dude and my love affair with the franchise began. I say all of this because i am part of the Fandom Menace. Absolutely i am. I cherish Star Wars so watching Kathleen Kennedy decimate my galaxy far, far, away in the name of her own ego, is practically debilitating. And it’s not even like i am averse to the ideas of her changes, you know? I like the idea of Rey. I loved Adam Driver and his Vader-lite, Kylo Ren. I love Oscar Issac so his Han Solo replacement, Po Dameron, already had my heart and Boyega's Finn had all the hallmarks of being something really special. And then Kennedy let Rian Johnson f*ck that sh*t all up.
And then she f*cked up Solo. And then she f*cked up Rise of Skywalker. And then she f*cked up everything else. So little of Star Wars has been good or original on Kennedy’s watch and it’s insane to me people defend this chick because she IS a chick. Bro, she is, objectively, bad at her job. It’s a wonder anything good has come out of Lucasfilm in her tenure. One of those things was Sear Wars Visions. That sh*t slapped hard and, coming off Netflix’s excellent anthology series Love,Death, + Robots, Visions was primed to ravage my senses. And it did. I just found out that the second season dropped to little fanfare, probably because this isn’t really a Kennedy production, much like he first, and her ego refuses to acknowledge anything that doesn’t have her name on it. Anyway, i finally got to check out these brand new takes on an old myth that is struggling to survive.
Sith
Tumblr media
What a way to start off your anthology! This one was much stronger than The Duel from last season, in my humble opinion. I loved the use of color and negative space. The combination of such a vibrant palette against those stark whites, or the subtle contrast by those blacks at the climax; Simply brilliant. More than that, the sound design went a long way to setting the tone of this short. It did so much heavy lifting, i was flabbergasted, especially considering how dope the animation turned out. Seriously, Sith is a work of art and masterclass in tension. I was on the edge of my seat with that final duel and it was less than i expected but much more than i needed. El Guiri Studios really gave us something special. Here's hoping Hollywood takes notice and let's these cats really do there thing with a proper budget and creative license.
Screecher's Reach
Tumblr media
Another banger right after the first? Yessir! Admittedly, while I like the aesthetic of Screecher's Reach, it was nowhere near as beautiful as The Sith. That said, this one had much, much, more emotional impact. That short, thirteen and change, gave me some of the best character development I've seen out of Disney Star Wars to date! That's not to say the animation and art design wasn't lovely. Cartoon Saloon really brought their A game with this one. The overall short was gorgeous and far more impactful than it had any right to be. Plus, that twist ending! Yo, I don't know who or what that Sith was at the end but I love the look! So deceptive. So insidious. I feel so bad for Daal but so glad I got to see her story.
In the Stars
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, I didn't care for this one. I respect the gumption, for sure, to make a claymation short because they are always so fun to watch but there are several practical limitations to creating animation this way. I'm immediately struck by the lack of color and fluidity in the overall animation. Coming off the first two shorts, this really took away from my viewing experience. On top of that, there is a lot of “Tell, don't show” in this fifteen minutes. Way to much exposition dumped early on. It's like Punkrobot Studios didn't trust the audience to infer all of that from the natural plot progression. It doesn't help that our main protagonist, the one we're supposed to be rooting for, is a reckless ass child. It's such a stark contrast the kids in Screecher's Reach. Yeah, there are merits to In the Stars, they're just not for me. I know this is supposed to be a metaphor of colonialism or whatever but it's just so poorly executed. Plus, I mean, everyone is still dead, the f*ck?
I Am Your Mother
Tumblr media
And as if to drive my point home about the claymation thing, I am Your Mother comes along and absolutely puts In The Stars to shame with the same goddamn technique! Aardman really put together something4 special with this short and I mean short. I Am Your Mother is only ten minutes and change but it uses every second of that run time to tell a really heartfelt, coming-of-age, narrative. The overall plot might be a bit derivative but I'm a softy for these types of narratives so I had a great time with it. It's nuts because this is basically the same, overall, plot as In The Stars but Mother does it so much better. More than anything, this feels like Star Wars. You can plop this thing right in with the Prequel era of films and it wouldn't feel out of place at all.
Journey to the Dark Head
Tumblr media
So I really, really, liked this on. I think I liked it as much as The Sith and that's saying a lot because that one is probably my favorite of the season. Dark Head is the first traditionally animated short and Studio Mir really put their best foot forward. This f*cking thing was epic! I'm a sucker for anime and, while this technically isn't proper anime, they pay solid homage to that aesthetic. It feels a lot like Avatar in that way and lord knows I love me some Misadventures of Aang and Friends. Probably because Mir is the studio who did Korra. My affection for Korra is much less but I'd be lying if I said that animation wasn't solid. This one was the longest of the lot so far, eighteen minutes, but they used that time to tell a strong story. It's wild to think they'd be able to pack in so much character development, in such a short amount of time, and entire, theatrical length, Star Wars films can't do the same. Rogue One, I'm looking at you.
The Spydancer
Tumblr media
Yo, what the f*ck was that?! Holy sh*t, was that solid storytelling! Look, the emotional weight of this sixteen minute was incredible. I mean, of the top, I love the look of the art. The animation was fluid, particular the dancing, and the sound design was everything but the goddamn story, man! How the f*ck did Studio la Cachette do so much, in much little time? Seriously, this was a straight up roller coaster of emotion and I didn't expect that at all. I thought Journey to Dark Head told a complete narrative but The Spydancer does all of that and so much more. Seriously, it's hard not to put this up there with the best of Disney Star Wars and thy did it in sixteen goddamn minutes!
The Bandits of Golak
Tumblr media
Another miss for me. Look, I love the Indian inspiration and the CG animation is solid but I don't particular care for the story being told, especially coming off something as emotionally weighty as The Spydancer. Still, 88 Pictures really made the most of their sixteen minutes. I can see why so many people enjoyed this short, even if I, personally, didn't really care for it. That final duel was solid as f*ck, though.
The Pit
Tumblr media
Black folks in Star Wars? Let's go! Seriously, there is a distinct lack of color in a galaxy far, far, away so anytime I can get some melanated representation, I'm all in. What do we have so far? Mace, Finn, and Lando? Three prominent black characters over, what is it now? Four goddamn decades? Almost five? Motherf*ckers should be ashamed of themselves. Still, The Pit goes a long way to bridging that gap. Now, I support the f*ck out of D'ART Shtajio but I'd be lying if I said this wasn't the weakest of the shorts in season two. That, and I kind of really hate the Lucasfilm co-sign. None of the other studios needed it. This feels like a Kennedy thing. Gotta take as much credit for the diversity hire as possible, you know? If you didn't now, D'ART Shtajio is the first black owned anime studio. Thy do a lot of support animation for a ton of anime series but this is their first stab at a recognizable franchise like Star Wars where they are allowed to fully do their thing. All that said, The Pit is easily the weakest entry into this season. The narrative is solid and it does a great deal with it's sixteen minutes but this thing doesn't leave nearly the impression of every other short the anthology. Seriously, this thing has a strong message that is kind of undermined by the lack of quality when stood against the rest of the shorts presented.
Aau's Song
Tumblr media
Auu's Song closes out this season's entries and, just like the opening, it was a strong choice. Aau's Song feels like a quiet story, intimate and personal, awash in a sea of stars. We  should be fortunate that her tale was told to us with such reverence and respect by Triggering. I was a little suspect at first, being that the two other stop-motion entries were hit-and-miss, but Auu's Song was definitely a hit. I am in love with this aesthetic. It feels like Final Fantasy IX and, if you know me, you know IX is top five for me. I loved the look, but I loved the sound design even more. Auu's song was lovely. Just the vocalizations, alone, were enough to catch my attention but couple that with the underlying tribal drums when sh*t got hairy, and you have a complete story told through your ears. Seriously, you can close your eyes and just listen to this story without missing a narrative beat. I find that absolutely amazing. It's wild to think that Aau's Song can be so god with absolutely no conflict. There are no Sith here, no Empire, no malevolence, just redemption and I kind of love that. The Sith, and to a lesser extent the Empire, were so prominent throughout this season but arguably the second strongest short of the lot, was devoid of anything resembling the dark side, outside of bled Kyber. Absolutely spectacular watch.
