ok, this might get buried in my blog, but i just want to make it clear that I Do Not Reblog Posts That Guilt-Trip You Into Reblogging. anything like „if you don’t reblog this you’re a bad person“ or „reblog this to prevent something bad from happening“ (that includes posts like „rb this if you would care if someone committed suicide“). but also „good luck posts“ that say „reblog this and something good will happen“.

i’d appreciate it if other people could tag these kinds of posts, but i understand if you don’t.

My least favorite part of debate is when people only accept bigoted things as being bad so you have to corral them into saying something bigoted that would inherently come from that belief. Like yes reblog bait is inherently ableist as it exploits mentally ill people for personal gain but also it just sucks ass and you shouldn’t do it.

I really hate how people use the topic of suicide as reblog bait, as if reblogs will instantly save somebody from depression. As somebody who suffers from suicidal ideation, it feels patronizing and exploitative. I get most of the people reblogging have good intentions but those kinds of posts but a horribly sour taste in my mouth, as if mentally ill people are nothing but tools to make you feel like you're helping. If you genuinely want to help, a reblog won't do. I'm sorry but sometimes somebody is so deep in their depression they don't care who'll miss them. The best thing to do is to get that person professional help.

I fought this shit for years and I'm upset people think a click of a button is all it takes to support mentally ill people. If it's all you can do, fine. I get it. Some of us can't do activist or support work for many reasons. I just ask we discuss these subjects and what causes these issues instead of hoping a button will save everyone.
