Book 30 of 2023 Not All Himbos Wear Capes by @c.rochelle_author First off, I have @thebookspice to thank for this amazing recommendation. I sent her a reel of a vibe I was looking for, and she delivered. This was my favorite book of February (which was full of perfect reads for me), it was perfect from start to end. I love Xander and Butch with their superhero/villain dynamics, and the smut is hands down some of the best outside of unhinged fan-fiction that I've ever read. 5 out of 5 stars, 5 out of 5 🌶 for spice. There's a list of kinks/content warnings at the beginning of the book that is necessary for readers. School kind of ruined reading for me. Most of the required reading I never found interesting, or I was simply not old enough to really appreciate the material. In college, I was older and, being an English major, more open to different types of stories. But then came the exams and 20+ page papers, and reading started to feel a little more like work. Not to mention once I was done with reading whatever 100 pages I needed to get through before the next class, I was too mentally checked out to do any “fun” reading. Now, five or six years since graduating, I have rediscovered my love for books. I read for fun now more than I probably have since being a kid. I get to choose what I read. I get to take my time and savor the details rather than try and cram before a deadline. And when I do read something I really enjoy, then I choose to write about it and share my thoughts. 

For anyone out there that felt similarly about reading growing up and still hasn’t picked up a book yet, try it. Even a short story can change how you see the world and the people around you. Reading can change the way you see yourself.

Still making my way through my #middlegradereadinglist with #flightofthepuffin by #annbraden. This book…THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!!! I loved all the characters and how their stories eventually intertwined. I wish I had known about this book when I used to take the kids I nannied to leave #ROAK painted rocks on walking trails, or hand drawn bookmarks in books at the library/bookstore/little free library or one of their favorites, taping microwave popcorn to Redbox machines. 🐉REVIEW RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is one of the most beautiful books I’ve read so far this year. With strongly written characters, as well as numerous themes and symbols to unpack, this is a great novel for bookclub discussions. This is a carefully crafted book with passages begging to be highlighted on every page. Zevin’s writing has evolved since A.J. Fickry and Young Jane Young. I enjoyed both, but Tomorrow has more intricate plotting and more sophisticated writing than those earlier works. The book, in large part, explores how we show love for each other when saying the words “I love you” don’t feel grand enough. The character of Marx shows his love simply by easing life’s journey for others, and I think that is one of the most amazing definitions of love I have ever read. If we were all capable of that kind of love, how wonderful this world would be. Another dominate theme is the question of how do you want to spend “the limited time of our very finite lives?” Do you devour the world - moving from each new thing to the next - in an attempt to experience it all? Or is happiness found by settling into a comfortable groove, choosing one course and keeping to the path? This is also a book about failure. Or rather, moving forward after failing. The video game analogy of multiple lives is used to great effect to illustrate the importance of failing upward. It’s ok to fail, just make sure to fail better the next time you try - get a little farther in the game than the last time. Move through failure like a gate and use the moment to pause and reinvent yourself as needed. This is a book I know will stick with me. I wanted to get this review up quickly after its release, so I haven’t yet taken the time to review all my notes. I’ll share more thoughts down the road if time permits. A rather large tree toppled in a storm in May, revealing that the center had rotted through. I drew the stump from a photo taken at the beginning of November, the stump filled with fallen leaves and two clumps of new growth sprouting on the right.
