HENRY— snippet The first book under themarbleeyelids on Archive of Our Own (AO3) is finally being drafted, and I’m so excited to share it with you all soon. This story has been in the works since I first discovered Casey McQuiston’s beloved novel, Red, White, and Royal Blue May of 2022. Her novel gave me so much hope and happiness as a reader that I returned to my own words as a writer. ••••••• As per the title, Henry will follow Prince Henry George Edward James Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor’s (Henry Fox, for short) life one year following the events of RWRB. Alex has since graduated from Georgetown and is now studying Law at NYU. While Henry is supporting Percy as a grant writer for his new LGBTQIA+ non-profit in Brooklyn. From the outside, both Alex and Henry are doing great, despite the media’s never ending obsession with the Waterloo letters and despite Henry’s grandmother managing to breathe down their neck an ocean away. Nonetheless, as Henry’s brother becomes sick with an unknown illness and Henry temporarily steps in to fill his brother’s duties, the weight of the crown begins to take its toll on Henry’s shoulders. As Henry begins to crack under the pressure, secrets about Henry’s mental health slip through causing a revolution that very well may change the nature of Alex and Henry’s relationship and the delicate balance of both U.K. and U.S. politics, alike. "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown."

Gotta love when they forget to clue others in 🤣
Book info:
The series is called Earth Sucks! A queer apocalypse tale that brings Tumblr's Humans Are Space Orcs to life.
It's the apocalypse, and Feng has a knack for pissing people off.
Mercenary Feng is both the hunter and the hunted, searching for his missing family while hunted by the alien intruders who are trying to get him to stop blowing their shit up.
Life gets worse when he must befriend one of the alien creatures to survive. She grew up on stories of humans, and Feng’s about to upend everything she's ever known—if they don't get each other killed first.
"Readers may appreciate the many twists and betrayals..." —Kirkus Reviews
"Action-packed, fast-paced sci-fi story bursting with psychological games and manipulations..." —Readers' Favorite
If you like the Last Of Us, the 100, or unlikely allies in the slightest, check out Earth Sucks On Amazon, Kobo or Barnes and Noble!

I wish I could read my books.
Right now I'm on the fourth draft of the Next Book, which I love -- so far, it's my favorite thing I've ever written. At this stage, despite the work of editing, reading it is very much a pleasure to me.
Going by history, that won't always be the case.
Part of the process of editing, for me at least, is getting fed up with reading and rereading the same words. That's not what I'm talking about. That's a passing thing, temporary.
What I've found, having published the first two books, is that I can't pick them up in their lovely book forms with their pretty covers and their nice formatting and all of that and sit down and read them. As books, not manuscripts.
Which is sad, because I feel like that was part of the fantasy pre-publishing -- here's my book, finished, I get to relax and read it the same way I relax and read other people's books. But I haven't even attempted that. Even the idea of it just drives that hope of relaxing right out of me.
Rereading the manuscript? Relaxing. Rereading my fanfics once they're posted on AO3? Relaxing. Rereading my published book? Not a chance, move along, brain, it's time to think about something else.
I'm guessing as to why, but I think it's two factors.
The first is that the books are more personal to me than the fanfics. This isn't a judgment on quality or work involved, but just how personal the story is to me. I think detaching is often a big part of relaxing, escapism, so the books' intimacy with me makes that harder.
The second, and maybe the bigger thing, is the feeling of permanence. The manuscript is, by definition, something I can still change. A fic on AO3 can be edited in less than a minute if there's something I need to change, and it's not a big deal.
But a published book? Granted, I'm self-published. It's still possible to edit one of my books, though it would involve a lot more steps -- it's not a matter of opening one file and making a change and pressing Post.
But by the time a book is published, I've finalized characters and arcs I've been working on for years, I've formatted everything, I've bought the ISBN and slapped it in place. Can edits still be made? Yes. It is in the realm of things that can be done. If the edit is small enough, the ISBN can still be preserved. Maybe I won't need to reformat the cover. I will have to adjust the manuscript again. But.
But by the time I publish, my brain is telling me the book is done. It's not going back. It's not being changed.
To me, it's very important that once a book is done, it's done. I'm free to move on to the next project. I'm not just allowed to let go, I'm supposed to.
And I think it's that feeling that I'm no longer creating the book, I'm not "fixing" anything anymore -- I'm no longer in control of the book? -- that makes it hard for me to just sit back and enjoy the end product.
I hope so much that other people can kick back and enjoy my books the way I kick back and enjoy other people's books. Even if I never have the opportunity to read my books like that, I would still want to write them. Writing them means so much to me.
But I do hope that, some day, years down the line when these books no longer feel so close to me, I can kick back and relax with them too.

"First Unicorn of Spring"
"'A symbol of innocence, as pure as the driven snow;
at the coming of the unicorn, the hold of winter must go.'
Elissa knew the poem well, it had long been passed down in her village, but she had never believed the myths of different creatures, creatures that neither she nor anyone that she knew had ever seen, heralding the changing of the seasons. Bedtime stories were all that they were to her, nothing more than fairy tales.
But that all changed on the fourteenth day of the fourth month of her seventeenth year."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I painted this one in 2021 at my mom's suggestion. It was the first of the two unicorn paintings I made. I'm thinking about turning this into a series of paintings with each one dealing a new creature and season (I'm think a mermaid for summer, firebird or phoenix for autumn, and an ice dragon for winter) along with a new story drabble for each. Someday, maybe, I'll use the story drabbles (or 'seed stories' as I like to call them) as the inspiration for a larger story project (because who doesn't need more WIP stories?).
I LOVE drawing my OCs!! For each book I've written, I like to work on drawing one of my favorite scenes. It helps me connect to my characters and keep them active in my mind.
Top one was done in Procreate this month , the bottom one was done in Photoshop about a year and a half ago.
There is so much you can do in photoshop, and it was def an adjustment moving to procreate. But for just straight digital drawing/painting, I have really grown to love procreate.
The cover for Changeling, book one of the Fey Touched Trilgoy, was created by the fantastic people at Getcovers, and I couldn't be happier with it.
I honestly went into the design phase with only an incredibly vague idea of what I might want included, and they knocked it out of the park.
And now, I'm one step closer to having a publication date set in stone...
