So completely obsessed with @evocating's take on Bruce's compartmentalization. How he presents himself as The Bat, as Bruce Wayne—tossing away his born identity for the shoddy facsimile that he could squeeze some use out of, for a persona to distance himself from the life he lives—and the unnamed, unplanned, person he is when he's wearing neither name. The last version of himself that he thinks of but the most authentic version of his options.
Of Bruce recognizing this, his disdain for the leftover parts of himself that didn't fit in neat little boxes, only to be opened when he had a role to fill, a use for them. The parts of himself that he can't escape. So fucking in love with it.

Golden Kamuy vol.2 by Sota Nadoru
Delicious food again!
Then chase, high energy, high stakes, tense situations! Also gore! Marvelous gore - without is being glamorized or even excessively put front and center. Bear attack consequences.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Very interesting to read about Ainu customs once again - nicely organically interwoven into the story. Just learning about the Kamuy and thinking how that will come into play with the title… also ritual sacrifice. (warning for people bothered by animal sacrifice).
And then Bam! Back to the other plot with the criminals! But it is exciting :D
I love how Sugimoto is calm and assesses the situation in a lot of situations where you'd expect someone to be panicking - which really works for his character, he's survived a hell of a lot, he's not truly shaken easily. I also like how he's not shy to give Asirpa credit - no hesitation, immediately says that she's the one looking out for him, not the other way around.
Also more perspective on the gold, how it came to be hoarded and how the incident was interpreted. Some nice, delicious food imagery again and then BAM! Back to the gruesome conspiracy plot.
I love it.
Really liking our villains...well our antagonists and looking forward to seeing them in action, what I've gotten so far is super entertaining. I'm just hoping that this doesn't end up in consequences for the village… I'm ready to dodge the red ball.
I love how Sugimoto goes along with Asirpa's lecturing on food preparation. It's a delight. The food gore in this manga is...something - I never expect it- though maybe I should, Sugimoto should also learn to expect it. Just watching these idyllic scenes in the village makes me think that something terrible is going to befall all of them.
Our scarred villain is looking for them and I doubt he'll have an issue just shooting everybody there.
A girl and her wolf ;o;.
Oh gosh, he left, probably because he's worried about their pursuers and doesn't want to lead them to the peaceful village….aaaand now Asirpa's going after him to club him over the head.
I do love how Sugimoto just straight up jumps into action...literally. Even if his ass gets beat, the fact is, he survives.
Sugimoto is solid and stone faced while Tsurumi is very obviously unhinged, it's fascinating to watch them interact. Tsurumi kind of likes him? Admires him? Wants to recruit him for him takeover... How unsettling.
But Sugimoto is not about to give up!
Asirpa is coming to the rescue! …with some detours!

1. You are the most important person on the internet within your profile.
-Your interests, likes, and dislikes are the only things that matter while on your own profile. You are allowed to block people without explanation. You are allowed to be angry about things people are happy about, and happy about things people are angry about. However, this does not mean that you can just go harass others. You may be the most important person within your profile, but not the leader of the internet. Nobody is.
2. You don't owe anyone anything, ever.
-Anon badgering you with hate? Turn off anon asks or even the ask box itself. Someone complains about the content you put out for your own enjoyment, for free? b-b-b-b-BLOCKED. Someone doesn't like the way you run your blog? They can either deal with it or simply unfollow. It is up to you if you want to listen and make changes. Nobody can force you to. If someone complains about the way you do anything, whether its on your own profile or in replies, blocking is the way to go. This also goes the other way, do not go out of your way to hate on someone. The only thing you're doing is making yourself mad. If someone does something you don't agree with, no matter how small, just block them!
3. Do not choose between being proship and antiship. Let go.
-I began as a neutral party, then was fed "this is bad" by my peers, then decided "i actually don't care, dldw/r" then decided "actually? I don't like this and I can believe that you aren't someone i want to be around (in nicer terms) ever." This, ofc, does not negate "dldr," I still do that. You don't owe me comfort and I don't owe you entry into my space. What you like in fiction is a part of you and I can judge whether or not I like you as a person because of that. Of course, choosing one can allow you to connect with peers easier but I wouldn't recommend it. Plus i feel like both sides are losing their reading comprehension skills (one more quickly than the other) but that's my interpretation, it's neither here nor there. >.> (this part is about a certain subgroup of anime fans btw)

you have to go to work so you can pay for your doctor, who is not taking your insurance right now, and if you say i can't afford the doctor's you are told - get a better job. it is very sad that you are unwell, yes, but maybe you should have thought about that before not having a better job.
(where is the better job? who is giving out these better jobs? you are sick, you are hurting - how the hell are you supposed to be well enough for this better job?)
but you go to the doctor because you had the nerve to be hurt or sick or whatever else. and they tell you that it is because you have anxiety. you try your best. you are a self-advocate. you've done the reading (which sometimes pisses them off worse, honestly). you say it is actually adding to my anxiety, it is effecting my quality of life. so they say that you are fat. they say that all young people have this happen to them, isn't it a medical marvel! they say that you should eat more vegetables. they say that you probably just need to lose a little more weight, and that you are faking it for attention.
(what attention could this doctor possibly give? what validation? that's their fucking job, isn't it?)
there is always a hypochondriac, right. someone always tells you about a hypochondriac. or someone who is unnecessarily aggressive during the worst days of their life. or someone looking "for a quick fix". or some idiot who wasn't educated about how to properly care for themselves who just abandons their treatment. and again, the hypochondriac, the overly-cautious hysteric. these people don't deserve to be treated like humans (right), and since you might be one of these people, you also don't get treated like a human. because those people can really fuck with the system, you now have to pay for it. and besides. you're actually probably faking it.
(more often than not, you find a 2:1 ratio of these stories. for every "hypochondriac", there are 2 people who knew something was wrong, and yet nobody could fucking find it. the story often ends with pointless suffering. the story often ends with and now it's too late, and it's going to kill me.)
you are actually just making excuses. someone else got that procedure or that diagnosis and he's fine, you should be fine too. someone else said they watched a documentary about other inspirational people with your exact same condition, maybe you should be inspirational, too. you're just too morbid. your pain and your experience is probably just not statistically concerning. it is all self-reported anyway, and you're just being a baby.
(once, while sitting down in the middle of making coffee, you had the sudden, horrible thought - i could kill myself to make the pain stop. you had to call your best friend after that. had to pet your dog. had to cry about it in the shower. you won't, but that moment - god, fuck. the pain just goes on and on.)
you know someone who went in for routine surgery and said i still feel everything. they told her to just relax. it took her kicking and screaming before they figured out she wasn't lying - the anesthetic drip hadn't been working. you know someone who went in for severe migraines who was told drink water and lose weight. you know someone who was actively bleeding out and throwing up in the ER and was told you're just having a bad period.
in the ER there are always these little posters saying things like "don't wait! get checked today!" and you think about how often you do wait. how often the days spool out. you once waited a full week before seeing the doctor for what you thought was a sprained wrist. it had actually been broken - they had to rebreak it to set it.
but you go into the doctor. the problem you're having is immediate. the person behind the counter frowns and says we're not taking your insurance. you will be paying for this out-of-pocket.
they send you home with tylenol and a little health packet about weight loss or anxiety or attention deficit. on the front it has your birthday and diagnosis. you think about crying, and the words swim. it might as well say go fuck yourself. it might as well say you're a fucking idiot. it might as well say light your money on fire and lie down in it. and the entire fucking time - the problem persists.
it's okay. it's okay, it's just another thing, you think. it's just another thing i have to learn to live with.

I'm sure the stay at home girlfriend thing is abrasive and inescapable on tiktok, no doubt compounded by female edgelords begging society to retvrn because they have finals next week, but I don't think beautiful gold diggers flexing the spoils of their hunt or teen edgelords miscalculating the offensiveness of their jokes are new or as culturally impactful as they're being credited. The revulsion is instinctual, I know, but these are internet-assigned villains of the week, not evidence that society is regressing and definitely not evidence we need to blow up the world and everyone in it. Stop hate-watching these videos, stop making screenshot compilations of strangers that anger you, they're distorting your perspective of the world.

My latest heartbreak is Somhairle sending letters of the dying doves to his family. The idea that, in a land barren of real company, he'd come to treat the birds as his citizens—that he treated their illness with the care one would reserve for friends and family.
And to have his family belittle him for showing such sensitivity to their passing. Them, viewing it as childish affection, taking for granted the faces and conversation they get to pass every day; whereas Somhairle's only familiar faces were the beaks buried in his backyard.
To make fun of him for finding companionship in the only company he'd been allowed to have. What a cruel reminder that he exists so far at the edges of their thoughts that they couldn't extend any sympathy to the reality of his conditions, any understanding to his exile.
