Older doodle + partially revamped and cleaned up of my modern AU FFVII. They’re all sleep deprived college students and clueless high schoolers. Also Seph wears glasses and ties his hair up in a ponytail because I said so 🔪

When zack kinda sorta maybe compared cloud's issues with tifa to his own issues with sephiroth—
"I'm sensing some issues here...shouldn't you do something?" (Cloud refuses to acknowledge him.) "I'm one to talk."
LIKE. This comes right after sephiroth's thing with genesis in the reactor. And i just cant help but feel like zack is , basically comparing his own situation with sephiroth to cloud's "relationship issues" with tifa, lmao? Like omg.
Right?? Because of the current state of his understanding of sephiroth, the state of their relationship (as in, their friendship)—it's all, tenuous. To zack. Almost like, after the incident in the reactor, zack doesn't know where he and sephiroth stand. And he doesn't know how to deal with it, the way cloud can't (or won't) try to sort things out with tifa.
Especially since I interpret this with the context of the aftermath. Where zack is focused on finding sephiroth, figuring out where he is and how he's doing. The "shouldn't you do something?" just kinda seems to line up, in my head, with zack's later actions. As if it was what zack was telling himself to do.
I know it's more that zack just means his situation in general, as a soldier, is in chaos. And that he can't make heads or tails of what's going on or what he should do. But yknow my brain just likes to consider everything from a zackseph angle lmao. My ship goggles are always on.

It would be so incredible to hear these voices again! Not only in Crisis Core Reunion, but in all of the other Final Fantasy VII Remake games as well. I really hope that all of us fans can band together and show Square Enix that we would like to hear both the new voice actors as well as the Legacy Cast.
I can't help not to think of Rick Gomez as Zack Fair. Just like I can't help not to hear Steve Burton as Cloud Strife and George Newbern as Sephiroth. Also, Rachael Leigh Cook as Tifa Lockhart and Steve Blum as Vincent Valentine. These are the voices I grew up with listening to as I played Crisis Core and Dirge Of Cerberus. And fell in love with watching in Advent Children.
We need a DLC! The option to choose which Cast to use during gameplay would be so nice to have!

okay quick question: what the fuck is ff7 actually like, about. what’s the goal? also why does everyone i see just look like a person who could potentially have something magic abt them and then there’s just an unironic talking cat. what are the rules in this universe? (i don’t need to know about all the other ff games unless it’s necessary setup, i’m mostly just curious abt the story of 7)
Starts vibrating. This is gonna get so long.
First things first I feel it necessary to clarify that no game in the mainline Final Fantasy series takes place in the same world. FFVII is a completely different world from say FFXIV and so on. Some games have sequels and spin offs, like FFVII having Crisis Core and (groan) Dirge of Cerberus, or FFX and FFX-2. But other than that, no relation between games.
Final Fantasy VII is a more sci-fi fantasy take on the FF series, keeping the themes of magic and adventure, but adding a dieselpunk/cyberpunk twist to it. Overall the main themes of FFVII is environmentalism and identity.
The characters are pretty consistent with the themes and designs of the entire FF franchise, it’s meant to be a little silly. So stuff like Moogles, Chocobo, talking cat, all falls under that silliness of FF.
Now the fucking story, there’s so much going on in this game. For simplicity (and personal preference) I will be ignoring the FFVII Compilation in favor of ONLY explaining the original 1997 game. There’s already so much going on, no need to complicate things.
The story of FFVII follows nine heroes who all have their own beef with the Shinra Electric Power Company, the company who rules over many cities and villages throughout the world by use of their private military. Over the roughly 40 years (iirc) the company has been around, they’ve committed several atrocities against humanity and the planet itself, which is a living thing in FFVII!! It’s very very important to note the planet it ALIVE!!
Shinra has several parts of the company that are important to the story, I won’t go over the company’s entire hierarchy, but there’s important parts of the company that I absolutely have to explain.
The R&D department is arguably the most antagonistic, led currently by Professor Hojo. The bitch is this prick who is over enthusiastic about human experimentation, eugenics being a motivator behind that (not as obviously as say Albert Wesker, but you cannot ignore Hojo is largely a eugenicist)
Then we have SOLDIER, Shinra’s super-soldiers created by Hojo. These guys are experimented on and enhanced with Mako, which is well put by Barret the “Lifeblood of the planet.” Among their ranks are Sephiroth, the most famous and powerful of the SOLDIERs, and (allegedly) Cloud Strife. Plus another guy, we’ll get to him.
Then there’s the Power Company part of this power company. Shinra built reactors that pump Mako out of the planet and convert it into energy. This process depletes the planet of Mako, a resource that IS finite and that the planet needs to survive. The company markets Mako as a clean and safe energy source, in a world that previously largely depended on coal mining. However Mako energy is anything but, where the reactors are built, the native flora and fauna eventually die out, and allows monsters to thrive. Plus, exposure to refined Mako is notably very dangerous to humans, as overexposure leads to “Mako poisoning” which meddles the mind and weakens the body. (So how do SOLDIERs work then? Great question! I’ll get to that!)
The story kicks off with a group in Shinra’s crowning accomplishment, the city of Midgar, called Avalanche. Avalanche is a group of “Ecoterrorists” who are set out to take Shinra down to save the planet. The group is led by our beloved Barret Wallace alongside a colorful cast of lovable characters, Jessie, Biggs, Wedge, and Tifa Lockhart! Plus, the newly hired ex-SOLDIER mercenary (and Tifa’s childhood friend), Cloud Strife.
The group conducts several missions to bomb the Mako reactors in Midgar, the first bombing going off without a hitch, the second mission… not so much. After one (really easy) boss fight, Cloud ends up falling off the upper city plate down into the under city, directly through the roof of a church where he meets our mysterious Aeris Gainsborough!! Aeris hires Cloud as a bodyguard (with the payment of one date with her), as she escapes Shinra’s Turks. I’d explain what the Turks do, but just know they’re all kinda John Wick types.
Now I’m gonna speed through the rest of the game since we’ve met all four of the most important protagonists.
The rest of the game kicks off after Aeris decides to help Cloud and Tifa after they learn Shinra plans on destroying part of the city just to take out Avalanche. During their mission to save the city, Aeris is kidnapped by Shinra. Reason being, Aeris is an Ancient (later clarified to actually be called Cetra), a people who were able to speak directly to the planet, and she’s the very last one at that. The mission fails and many innocent people are killed in the fallout, as well as the other members of Avalanche. After all Aeris did to help, including saving Barret’s daughter Marlene, our heroes are determined to save her. During their mission to save Aeris, it’s revealed that the long thought dead General Sephiroth is somehow still alive, a fact Cloud insists should be impossible.
After that, Cloud is determined to track down Sephiroth and take him down for good, as revenge for Sephiroth destroying Cloud and Tifa’s hometown, Nibelheim. All of our heroes agree to help Cloud pursue Sephiroth after learning what he did to Nibelheim. Along the way we meet lots of other characters.
Nanaki aka Red XIII, a funny little talking animal who was being held prisoner alongside Aeris, rescued at the same time she was. He agrees to follow the group until he can return to his home, as thanks for them rescuing him from Professor Hojo.
Yuffie Kisarsgi (my beloved daughter), a teenage ninja and thief from Wutai, who is on the hunt for Materia (magical gems that allow people to cast magic). She joins the group after she steals their materia and promptly is defeated, deciding she might have more opportunities to get materia if she doesn’t go it alone.
The journey continues as the group heads out to find Sephiroth. Their first encounter with him being on a boat to Costa del Sol. Where Sephiroth leaves behind a limb (I think an arm? I never remember which limb is which) of his “mother” Jenova, and flees by doing a backflip and flying away. This limb transforms into a large monster that then attacks the group. After she’s defeated, the quest to find Sephiroth continues.
They travel across the world, landing in all sorts of unique locations, all in search of Sephiroth and how to truly defeat him. We meet more guys.
Cait Sith (look up how to pronounce this in Scottish Gaelic, NOT English) is a little toy cat the group meets at the theme park the Gold Saucer. He receives a fortune that the group is in trouble and cue my favorite “joined the party” moment in any video game:
Vincent Valentine, an ex-Turk who reveals Jenova is not truly Sephiroth’s mother, but instead a woman named Lucrecia, whom he was in love with. Vincent was experimented on by Hojo and gained the ability to turn into monsters. He chose to sleep in a coffin for the rest of his life as atonement for not being able to stop Lucrecia from experimenting on herself and her son. After he learns Sephiroth is a threat to the planet, he joins the group to stop him.
Cid Highwind is a skilled pilot and SHOULD have been one of the first men to go to space, unfortunately one of his crew members put herself at risk during the spaceship’s launch and he chose to cancel the launch to save her. After that, Shinra defunded his space program which he resented them for. The group attempts to steal his plane before Shinra can and he joins them mainly because he wants to stick it to Shinra, plus they broke his plane and he needs to fix it.
That’s the whole gang! Finally, crazy how many playable characters there are in this game.
Eventually the group learns of the Black Materia, an extremely powerful weapon that was created by the Cetra (shhhh don’t listen to Rebirth they lied to you) as a result of them creating Holy, an equally powerful materia that was created to rid the world of Jenova, the Cetra’s greatest enemy. They continue on a quest to find the Black Materia before Sephiroth can use it to destroy the world. (It’s kinda a Fullmetal Alchemist equivalent exchange thing, to create the ultimate protective materia, the ultimate destructive materia had to be created in return)
All the while, Shinra pursues the group hoping Aeris will lead them to the “Promised Land” a land foretold by the Cetra to be a paradise (it’s the Cetra’s afterlife lmfao, Shinra’s stupid).
Upon finding the Black Materia, Sephiroth finally busts out his ability to control Cloud, forcing Cloud to hand over the materia to him. Aaaand now I can explain how SOLDIERs work. All SOLDIERs have Jenova’s cells in them, which is what allows them to survive Mako exposure AND is also how Cloud was able to keep finding Sephiroth! Jenova, and Sephiroth, can exert control over anyone with her cells and is currently trying to create a “Reunion”, drawing in everyone who contains Jenova’s cells so she can be whole again. Which is why Cloud is inexplicably drawn to following Sephiroth (hahahaha bitch fell for the classic thinking it’s about revenge but actually just being alien mind control).
Right after losing the Black Materia to Sephiroth, Aeris heads out on her own. The group manages to follow her to the lost city of the Cetra, where she attempts to summon Holy to defeat Jenova and Sephiroth.
The group arrives too late to rescue Aeris before Sephiroth arrives and kills her. Jenova appears once again and the group defeats her. They all mourn the loss of their beloved friend, then become reinvigorated to stop Sephiroth.
They go snowboarding literally immediately after this, funniest tonal shift of all time, as they head to the northern crater. They gets their hands back on the Black Materia before they make it to a cavern in which the REAL Sephiroth has been sealed this ENTIRE TIME!!!!
Cloud leaves the Black Materia with [enter ally of the player’s choice] so Sephiroth can’t take control of him to steal it back again.
Shinra also makes their way to this cavern, Professor Hojo then reveals that Cloud was never in SOLDIER, but instead is an experiment created by him, a “Sephiroth Clone”. Cloud is led to believe that he isn’t the real Cloud Strife, and only took on that appearance from Jenova’s ability to read minds (she can do so many things) and take the appearance of others based off memory, in this case, Tifa’s memory of her childhood friend. Cloud reacts super normally to this information (he has a meltdown). Sephiroth manages to trick [whoever the player left the Black Materia with] into bringing the Black Materia to Cloud. Who ONCE AGAIN is compelled to give it to Sephiroth.
Sephiroth is back for real now, and summons Meteor with the Black Materia. It’s a meteor, exactly what it sounds like.
Then literally so much happens. I can speedrun the disc three explanation sooo well. Cloud falls into the soup (the Lifestream, think of it like the veins of the planet) and goes missing. The group decides Cid’s in charge in his place since he’s a ship captain. Giant monsters emerge out of the plant, called Weapons (creative naming all around in this game, probably sounded cooler in Japanese). The Weapons were created as a defense mechanism of the planet against Jenova. But now they’re just kinda freaking out and blowing shit up.
Cloud is found completely unresponsive in a town called Mideel, Tifa elects to stay with him in hopes he’ll get better. The rest of the group heads forward on a mission to find the Huge Materia (literally just materia but big) before Shinra. Hoping maybe they’ll be able to use it to stop Meteor somehow.
Wacky adventures ensue. A weapon shows up in Mideel and causes an earthquake that opens up to the Lifestream, Cloud and Tifa both fall into the soup.
In the Lifestream, Tifa explores Cloud’s memories. She slowly tries to piece together the real story of what happened to Cloud, and to prove that he IS the real Cloud Strife.
We learn about Zack, an actual SOLDIER, who came to Nibelheim with Sephiroth before he destroyed the village. And how in Cloud’s memories, he placed himself in Zack’s shoes. (This is who Zack is and this is one of two parts of the entire game he shows up in)
As they go on and explore Cloud’s memories, they learn that he might never have been in SOLDIER, but he WAS in Nibelheim when it was destroyed, but as an infantryman, not a SOLDIER. He wore a helmet the entire time literally only because he was embarrassed about potentially running into Tifa (he was 16 back then, typical teenager behavior).
Cloud and Tifa wash up back in Mideel, found by their friends. This happens:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Kidding, this is just the joke I made about this scene)
They go kill Sephiroth. Free Holy, which gets rid of Jenova once and for all and with the helpful of the Lifestream (again the planet is very alive) Meteor is stopped and the day is saved!! The only question that remains is, did Holy decide humanity was part of the threat to the planet? Do they remain after Meteor is stopped? It’s up to interpretation!!! We know Nanaki lived tho! He lived on for another 500 years!!!
Anyways that’s the gist of it, there’s like, way more. You would not believe how much story is packed into this game. And I loveeee it, it’s really good :) the characters are my everythings <3

Now that Sefikura is being teased in rebirth do you want them to be endgame?
Endgame in canon? Lol, no.
Definitely not after everything Sephiroth has done to Cloud. They're fine in AU, but not in the actual story. Sephiroth is a doomed monster. He doesn't end up with anyone because he's already lost himself. He might have some pretty R-rated feelings for Cloud, but they're unrequited beyond the possibility of mutual physical attraction, nothing more than that.
If you wanted me to be 100% honest and genuine about endgame Cloud ships, I'd say Tifa makes the most sense on a narrative level. She and Cloud have the healthiest dynamic imo, and their relationship is built on mutual support and respect. Not that Clerith or Zakkura doesn't also have their perks, but Cloti just always seemed to fit the best with the story's overall message and themes. And after everything they've seen and everyone they've lost, it just makes the most sense for them to heal each other little by little over time, just as they always have.
But don't worry. Tifa is VERY supportive of her bisexual boyfriend.

Harpy!Cloud
I just think that Cloud should get blasted back in time by Gaia but Jenova intervenes somehow making it so that he has more of her genetic material in him than even Sephiroth. For this reason, he decides to seclude himself atop Nibel Mountain not only so that Jenova cannot take control of him but because he has sprouted feathers where his hair was, down his arms and legs, grew wings, and has talons (plus the slitted eyes).
Cloud earns himself a bit of a reputation as a mysterious, wise man (always wearing a big cloak and using smoke to obscure his appearance to brave visitors). Most of his advice boils down to "stop being dumb" or Curing people or showing them his unique brand of awkward kindness. He saves Tifa when the bridge collapses and brings her back to warm up in his cave where they talk about her mom (she's the first to ever see his true appearance). She always makes sure to visit after that.
One day, a child Sephiroth finds his cave. He overheard some scientists in the Manor talking about the wise man and wants an answer to his question: "Why does nobody love him?"
Years later, Sephiroth takes Genesis and Angeal to see the wise man who taught him that even monsters can be human too.
ALT storyline where Cloud is captured by R&D and brought back to Midgar for study.

Sephiroth (CC) -- Rose
Tumblr media
Here is another Sephiroth artwork from Crisis Core with a rose 🌹 Tbh, I actually LOVED how this turned how. I just love drawing my favorite FF character (or villain lol), especially the FFVII trilogy <3. I’ve been wanting to draw more Sephiroth lately, so here he is I did probably last week (?).
SPOILER ALERT for those who hadn't played Crisis Core and/or Crisis Core Reunion, and the original and the remakes of FFVII of what I am about to say! So be aware of spoils!
I managed to do chapter 8 of CC-R, finally managed to see the Nibelheim Incident, which was an essential, and most shocking event I have EVER seen in my life ever since getting into FF. I hadn't even known that the people that created FFVII to have the most crucial event that probably is popular and shocking at the same time. I hadn't even gotten into that event in the OG and the remakes of FFVII just yet, nor seen the full thing of Last Order, but I did manage to get through it in Crisis Core Reunion. I was NERVOUS of playing that chapter 0_0. My heart was beating fast and my stomach was turning just thinking about it and how I will get through it! (I started to love Tifa's voice, btw :3). Sephiroth’s fall from hero to a threat was INDEED heartbreaking. I feel like he is the victim of Hojo’s experiments and the origins are just heartbreaking. Unfortunately he fell into insanity. I also felt if that wasn't for Hojo, and all the experiments he had done, and what he had done to Sephiroth, and probably the company did this to him as well, none of Sephiroth’s insanity would've happened. And yeah, Cloud killing Sephiroth at the reactor by stabbing him and throwing him into the Mako pit (or lifestream) was hard for me to watch after the battle. It'll be hard and NERVOUS for me to watch that scene from the OG as well along with the backstory from Cloud's POV in the OG and Rebirth. Oh, and that Sephiroth battle… was probably one of those battles that got my blood boiling but loving at the same time for some odd reason. I wasn't even READY for the Sephiroth battle at all, and I hated it, but loved it at the same time. Things I love was his stances and and intros before the battle, but what I hate is trying not to die from every powers he's using. The second phased I don't really like. So yeah, Sephiroth's fall from grace sucked, but will be forever my favorite FF villain ❤️
Alright, that's enough with the long description of my time playing chapter 8 and discussion before I get myself carried away lol. I had the shirtless Sephiroth art with a rose done on this book, but I didn't like how it turned out. So I decided to redraw that piece on my iPad and will display it as soon as it's done :). I'll be playing more Crisis Core soon!

Hi I'm responding to your post about being confused at the hopeful lyrics of NPtK! Here are my thoughts:
Firstly, I'm not sure if I agree on heroes and promises being a bad thing in the world of ff7. From my perspective, they've never really been a bad thing, especially since the narrarive allows Cloud gets to become a hero and keep his promise to Tifa. Cloud carries her to a safe place during the Nibelheim incident and then stops Sephiroth. Not to mention he later helps Tifa out with Avalanche and defeats Sephiroth at the end of the game. Perhaps you have a different perspective but I always thought the game has been pretty receptive to the idea of heroes and promises, just that Cloud was kind of a false hero for a lot of the game. (In contrast, the true version of Cloud is a true hero.)
In addition, there was a tweet on Nojima's twitter recently stating that he imagined Aerith wrote the lyrics to appeal to a crowd and that she rewrote the lyrics a few times. Ergo, they are not her purest feelings put to paper. Now, this tidbit doesn't necessarily help this discussion much, but I do think it's worth considering that some of the lyrics could be prophetic in a way Aerith didn't intend. Perhaps she wrote some of them more innocently, unaware of the irony that's to come... (food for thought.)
Anyway I personally think Aerith has resigned herself to fate in the song but that she still can't help longing for something better. She sings: "if only id never known, all the burdens i was born to bear, lived a life without a care in the world save for you, but that won't do." I think this line is exactly what shows the inside of her tumultuous heart! Yes, she's resigned herself to her fate, but even when she's trying to share one last date with Cloud and pretend everything's fine she can't hide the sorrow on her face from the photographer. She longs for fate to change, she just knows it can't, or at least not as much as she'd like. I personally don't think these are really contradictory...? I can see how you might, though.
Err sorry if I missed the point of your post but I'll just send this anyway! I do think you've opened up an interesting discussion though. :)
Ok, first, it's genuinely such a nice thing of you to take time to write this, it made me so so happy. After I saw that NJM's tweet I think I started to understand it much more. You see, my initial interpretation of the lyrics were that Aerith is singing to Cloud to reassure him to not fret as they are sure to meet again, and that meeting would be in the lifestream, as all life is reunited upon death into one single thing. So there were no promises to keep because it was a given that they would meet as everyone dies eventually.
Now that NJM said he sort of imagined it as Aerith writing the song again and again. Honestly, I agree completely with your interpretation. I mean, isn't her song kind of like a prayer, in a way? For a better future to herself? Aerith in the OG is unaware of what is going to happen to her, she's fulfilling her duty, but Aerith in the R-Trilogy knows. She doesn't know her future but we see that she feels the danger that she's in, Nanaki warns Cloud about it and his connection to the lifestream is much weaker than hers (and I don't think she would fully divulge it to him either because Aerith is a bit of a secretive character). I believe she's aware of what's going to happen (even if she doesn't know when) and she chooses it, it's the ultimate sacrifice. I wonder just how scared she was to take every step foward with the increasing uneasiness of her upcoming doom.
It's just very heartbreaking. Specially so if the running time loop theory I've seen floating around is true, actually.
Oh, also, about the hero thing. I still maintain my opinion, actually, though I think I'd like to explain myself better a little bit haha. So, from my point of view, FF7 subverts the idea of a hero or the notion of the becoming of a hero, at least, and I don't think it paints it in a good light. I question the notion that Cloud becomes a hero by saving Tifa because he puts her on a safe spot and then, because of his rage, instead of running away with her (and actually making sure she was truly safe, Zangan is the one who does that) he goes back and kills Sephiroth. That action only makes Sephiroth stronger and allows Cloud (and Zack) to be captured and messed with. He effectively made things worse there. If only Zack was captured and he didn't have to care for Cloud maybe he would have survived. And then, again, when Zack saves Cloud he is uncerimoniously killed by Shinra - the very thing that allowed Zack to funnel his heroism into. And also, yes, the party defeats Sephiroth in the end but Holy is what stops the Meteor and even then, humanity still perishes in the future. People are saved due to the mercy of the lifestream, the recognition of the value of life.
I guess this sounds like what I'm saying is "don't have empathy/help others" haha but it's not it, I guess I just think the game is interested on questioning the reason for their actions and showing how much of it doesn't stem only from empathy but truly from selfishness and the want for recognition. That's what I think for now, at least.

FF7 Content Warnings
people wanted me to remake this since the old one got nuked so here we are! this game is 26 years old and most of the visual stuff isn't very graphic cause the character models look like legos but I'm still gonna mention them. also I won't reveal exactly what happens to avoid spoilers but just let me know if you want more context!
the main cast of characters are terrorists. they commit terrorism at the very beginning of the game by blowing up a power plant
there's a part early on in the game where Cloud cross dresses in order to save Tifa from a perverted mob boss. it is not hidden at all that this guy sexually abuses women on a daily basis. during this point of the game you are also able to go into a love hotel and there's a fair bit of sexual content (Remake keeps this but the love hotel is turned into a strip club that Cloud has to dance at and it has a sweet message about expressing yourself and not being restricted by old fashioned gender norms. it's nice! 10/10 change!)
the mob boss character returns in a sidequest later in the game and starts going after Yuffie. Yuffie is 16.
a character calls another character a r*tard in an optional scene (you can skip this by choosing to barge through the front entrance of the Shinra Building instead of taking the stairs)
one of the heads of Shinra (Hojo) suggests forcing Aerith to have sex with Red XIII in order to save their bloodlines. doesn't help that Red XIII is a cat. (Remake once again tweaks this. Hojo instead suggests having one of the military soldiers r*pe Aerith which definitely isn't much better. but the other villains he suggests this to are uncomfortable with the idea (minus the president) so it is acknowledged as being extremely fucked up)
there is. a lot of abuse in this game. physical, mental, verbal, child, domestic, ect.. one of the abusers is actually one of the party members, but he gets better by the end of the game
Aerith has been stalked by the government since she was a little kid
some characters are just straight up tortured
multiple characters are shot. two are permanently injured, one is killed and another one is killed but experimented on and made immortal
two main characters are captured by the government and are set to be executed via a gas chamber on live television. they escape but one of them is put in the gas chamber for a bit
a character commits suicide by jumping off a cliff
people are stabbed a lot. a villain is stabbed to death in his office early in the game, a main character is stabbed to death at the end of the first disc and another main character is stabbed in the chest in a flashback. all of these stabbings are committed by Sephiroth
there's a section of the game where Cloud is able to go on a date with Tifa, Aerith, Yuffie or Barret. the Yuffie one is a little uncomfortable since she's 16 and Cloud is 21, though it is mostly played off for laughs and Cloud is annoyed the whole time. the Barret one is also played off for laughs but there is also a weird part where Barret is convinced Cloud has a crush on Marlene (Marlene is 4). again it's mostly played off for laughs but it is still weird
two characters are implied to have sex before the final battle with Sephiroth
there is a bit of body horror! the most extreme example is with the character Jenova. a detailed image of her headless body is shown for a brief second and while it's not too graphic, her body is covered in veins, she has an eyeball where one of her nipples should be and there's a hole in her stomach with a giant tube coming out of it
Cloud is shown to have multiple PTSD induced flashbacks! they aren't frequent and aren't very heavy but they're there (Remake makes them a lot more frequent and realistic)
Sephiroth commits genocide and burns down a village in a flashback. this event is brought up and shown multiple times
one of the upper sections of Midgar falls onto the section below it, crushing thousands of people
strong language
drugs and alcohol
gore
there is some animal death. one of the biggest examples is when Sephiroth impales a giant snake monster on a tree. the image you see of the aftermath is actually kinda gross ngl
there's a scene where Cloud beats up one of the other party members (he can't control himself during this though)
a main character is hospitalized and wheelchair bound and it's revealed he has a medical condition known as Mako Poisoning
there is quite a bit of human and animal experimentation. some of these experiments are conducted on main characters
there is a lot of talk about the afterlife and what happens after you die. this is unavoidable and is a major part of the story
lots of military and government propaganda. the main characters don't fall for it and know the government is extremely fucked up, but it is in the background
there's an identity crisis
there's also a few moments of unreality
I think that's it??? I'll add more later if anything comes to mind. hopefully this one doesn't get lost again lmao

Sora x Tifa
Part 15
Part 14 below
Sora woke up from dreamless sleep at midday. He decided to ask Tifa about the piano from her bedroom. He never played any instrument himself but still he pressed some random keys.
“There’s no reason for staying inside.” he thought and went outside. “What to do?”. He made up his mind taking the road to Seventh Heaven.
When he got inside the bar, he noticed Cloud sitting at one of the tables with two guys. They were laughing at something, at least those other two, as Cloud was only slightly smirking. The ex-SOLDIER didn’t seem to recognize him, so he went straight to the bar to say hello to Tifa. She stood with her back to the room, so she didn’t notice Sora approaching.
- Excuse me ma’am, can I make an order? - he asked in a formal way.
Tifa turned around and smiled warmly at him.
- Of course, what would you like, sir? - she answered, playing that little game.
- I’d like your specialty - he said, returning to his normal tone. - and for those guys whatever they like best. - he pointed at the table behind him.
She was really happy that Sora decided to make a good impression before her friends. She started to prepare the drinks with him watching.
- Stop staring at me like that. - she whispered with a smile, giving him a quick look and blushing.
- Like what? - he asked, surprised.
- Like I’m some kind of dessert. - her face turned impressively red.
Sora smiled widely at her with response as her blush was a very cute sight.
- I recognize Cloud. And the other two?
- Biggs is the one wearing the headband, the chubby one is Wedge.
- Thank you for your service, m’lady. - he smiled at her, took glasses and carried them to Cloud and others.
- Hi, I’m R… Sora. I’m friends with Tifa and this is to break the ice. - he said pointing at drinks.
Cloud's eyes widened with surprise, Biggs raised his eyebrow and Wedge grinned at him.
- Can I join you?
- Sure! Tifa’s friend is our friend! - Wedge welcomed him and moved a free chair for him.
- Sora, long time no see, huh? - it was Cloud, still with astonishment in his look.
- Yeah it’s been, how much, eight years? - Sora remembered what Tifa told him the first night they went out.
- Wait, you guys know each other? - Biggs spoke for the first time.
- Yeah, we’ve fought against and along. - Cloud said with a mysterious smile.
Both Biggs and Wedge were now sitting at the edge of their chairs. Sora was clearly confused, and Cloud seemed to notice that.
- You okay? - he asked.
- Well, being honest, I don’t remember much from the past, it’s a long story.
- Do you, huh? Well, we’ve faced each other in a tournament in Olympus Coliseum. You were just a kid, still you’ve managed to defeat me, I’m not proud about it. Then, a year later, we fought Heartless in Hollow Bastion aka Radiant Garden.
- Of that I remember. So I defeated you, huh?
- How’s it possible that you beat Cloud? He’s the toughest guy I know! - those were Wedge’s words.
- And he - Cloud pointed at Sora. - is the toughest guy I know. Maybe excluding Sephiroth.
Sora held himself from commenting on that. He just sat by the table and tried to enjoy his drink, which wasn’t so easy, because of his reluctance to meet new people. He sneaked a look at Tifa and tried to catch her eye but failed. Looking back at comrades at the table, Sora noticed Cloud looking at Tifa with sadness.
As hours passed, the bar was getting crowded. Sora couldn't say he was having fun talking to Tifa’s friends but they didn't bother him either. After noticing Cloud's peeking at his girlfriend again and again he got a bit angry and jealous. The voice in his head came back: “Why do you call her your girlfriend? She never stated that. He's much better for her, taller, built better, more handsome and you?”. He shook his head and spotted a jukebox. It had to be there earlier but somehow he missed it. He approached it to look for something to occupy his mind.
The titles said nothing to him, as well as the artist's names, although one record caught his attention, it was called “Heaven” by T. With no hesitation Sora played that one. It was a calm melody played on a piano that somehow instantly filled his heart with hope. He enjoyed it so much that he didn't even notice the end. Instantly he played it once more and looked at the title again. “Can it be?” his heart skipped a beat. He turned his face towards the bar top. Tifa was standing there, staring at him, with a face that he couldn't read.
She was used to hearing that record playing at Seventh Heaven as many people accidentally were turning it on but never two times in a row. She looked towards the jukebox and saw Sora being lost in the melody. He checked the cover and looked at her and she knew that he learned her secret. Looking at him she slightly shook her head. He seemed to understand - the next record played immediately.

ok I have to say it.
(ffvii spoilers/ffvii Rebirth speculation/spoilers ahead)
call me nutty or say I'm huffing copium because the closer we get to February, the more I suspect that the original fandom assumptions were true and that the game will be ending at the Northern Crater. yes, I know they said that the new locations would go "up to" the Forgotten City; yes, I know that The Thing That Happens There was also the end of the first disc in the original game, and having Rebirth end there as well would "recreate the feeling" of the first game (which the VII-R developers have said is their goal with this project)
BUT.
This line from the theme song trailer has been niggling at me:
Cloud: "Sometimes, I don't even know who I am. I forget things everyone else remembers just fine, and know things I've got no right knowing."
This line is (apparently) spoken to Tifa, and there are two points where it could pop up. One of them is at Gongaga, post Temple of the Ancients, when Cloud expresses fear to Tifa and Barret about his state of mind after giving the Black Materia to Sephiroth and attacking Aerith. So that's a possibility! What bothers me about it, however, is that it's very similar to this line from OG:
Tifa: "...Something was wrong. I felt there was something strange about the things you talked about. All the things you didn't know that you should, and other things you shouldn't know that you did."
This is Tifa's internal monologue- after the Northern Crater. Could this line have been moved up to Gongaga, or anywhere else in the story for that matter? Sure! BUT THERE'S MORE:
Cloud: "It's true that sometimes I can't figure out who I am. There's a lot of things muddled up in my memories."
Cloud says this to Tifa AT THE NORTHERN CRATER. It sounds like Rebirth is combining these two lines at the very least, allowing Cloud an extended moment of introspection. But why these two lines? Why move them from their original context in this manner? Do the developers not care where exactly these things are said, just that Cloud says them at some point? Possible! Very possible!
BUT!! I have ANOTHER CLUE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now obviously this part of the trailer generated a lot of speculation, mostly about what Weapon that was, and the fact that we were getting footage of Weapons in general so early. However, for the purposes of this, I'm more interested in voice-over:
Tifa: "A Weapon?" Red XIII: "Tutelary creatures, said only to appear when the Planet is in grave danger."
Not very remarkable on its own, obviously. BUT!!! What interests me is that this is dialogue between Tifa and Red XIII. In a sea of green. About Weapons. Which are first shown at the Northern Crater. But that alone isn't enough, because OG has this possible moment:
Tumblr media
Oh, look at that. Red XIII and Tifa (well, "Tifa") floating about in a sea of green at the Northern Crater. How very interesting.
Tumblr media
...So yes, this is all conjecture, and my hands are full of straws. But as someone who just passed through the Northern Crater section in her current replay, the coincidences were eerie. Who knows what's happening in Rebirth! Maybe the Forgotten City section was moved! Maybe these moments in the trailers are red herrings meant to throw og players off! All I know is that the Northern Crater is too good of a cliffhanger, and the following section at Junon too good an opening for Part 3, for the developers to pass it up. But maybe they're stronger than me, and have a different vision for the story.
Who knows!
