Kaeya's design
as a kaeya enthusiast and lover, i spend an ungodly (haha) amount of time looking at him so here are some things about his design that others and i have noticed! its gonna be a long post so sorry about that
starting off by saying that kaeya's design mostly consists of "two sides" in a way, his mondstat side and his khaenri'ah side.
Tumblr media
his mondstat side includes his vision, the full side of his cape in the back, the earring he wears. the khaenri'ah side includes his eyepatch, the wisp of lighter hair in his bang, a clipped cape ("wing") and the majority of the fur coating. all across his design there a bunch of those stars we see associated with khaenri'ah, one being in his pupil which was a confirmed trait to khaenri'ahn people ever since we saw dainsleif.
(i need it to be noted to kaeya's eyepatch is stressed on a lot in game, its constantly referred back to most of the time when kaeya is brought up, he has a voiceline about it, traveler has a voiceline about it, its mentioned right when we start the quest with dainsleif, and its related back to fischl so. do with that what you will, he's also the only one from the eyepatched characters that wears it on the right side other than signora but fatui and khaenri'ah is an entirely different topic, but we do know khaenriah loves the entire one eye thing)
kaeya shares a lot of overall similarities with cryo abyss mages, mostly in playstyle but appearance as well, most notably the fur coat he keeps thrown over his shoulder, the "bunny ears" in his hair (ahoge?) and his boots. (in playstyle he's similar in the sense that he teleports on his fifth attack, his ult is similar to the icicles they produce after their shield is broken, he produces his own shield at c4 etc etc)
i saw someone point this out on reddit but i cant find because it was a while ago but regardless, they brought up his boob window in his design and how it can be perfectly covered up by the symbol abyss heralds and khaenri'ahn soldiers have on their chests.
Tumblr media
which is sort of interesting because we know abyss creatures we fight are cursed khaenriahn people, but also, kaeya is seemingly unaffected by the curse. for those who dont know when khaenri'ah was destroyed in the cataclysm its citizens were cursed to immortality and went through various transformations, yet kaeya seems unaffected because he continued to age "normally" (as normal as someone born supposedly 500 years ago can age)
in the chasm quest dainsleif mentions the existing of a device that apparently keeps him from transforming into something else, (i can find a screenshot of the voice line if someone asks) but doesn't help with the immortality issue. there's a lot we don't know regarding that entire situation but i hope to get crumbs in 2.8 since we're getting mona + diluc content
speaking of dainsleif, today there was a certain story teaser that was dropped and id be a fool not to mention the clear connection between pierro, the first fatui harbinger known as the jester and our beloved kaeya. this is him for reference
Tumblr media
pierro shares a few attributes with kaeya that are most certainly worth mentioning. the way that the lightning portrays pierro here sort of covers the right side of his fur cape and only leaves one fully showing, similar to kaeya's one-shoulder fur cape. upon a closer look there is a star pupil in his eyes which as we know is a khaenri'ahn thing, the reason i mentioned dainsleif was because his mask vaguely resembles his. one of his eyes is covered like kaeya's, he has an opening in his shirt on his chest in a heart shape that's come to a close at the top by some type of crystal similar to the ones kaeya has littered all over his outfit.
they both share a blue crystal earring and eye shape, pierro has the long star littered over his design as well, and there is a tuft of blue/dark hair in pierro's just like kaeya has a strand of silver. they also share a similar jacket design, which is more of a fatui thing in general but still should be mentioned.
and regarding the silver hair in kaeya, i find it worthy to note that in his splash art and in the manga, he's missing the strand of hair over his left ear. it might be just because they simply forgot to add it because it is rather small, or the silver in his hair is expanding to other places.
(drawing attention to one of his voice lines,, when we asked about his eyepatch kaeya says he inherited it from his grandfather, similarly to how kids inherit hairstyles from parents.. do with that what you will)
one thing i want to note though is his cape, the full one. if you look at it you might think it looks vaguely familiar, wanna know why?
Tumblr media
(a lot of people theorize the log in screen is celestia, and that the nails in dragonspine and now the chasm are fallen pillars from there) for someone from a godless nation its sort of weird that he seems to have that connection to something seemingly celestial huh? and you might think but his cape only has three of those wings, the nails and statues have 6!!! well wrong! kaeyas cape is double sided so he does, in fact, have 6.
(someone in reblogs reminded me its also on the statues of the seven after you upgrade which is right and where i actually first noticed it LMAO but you get the gist, celestial design)
i think its also worth to note that paimon shares that in her design, as well as the star. im going to leave the theories about this for later
Tumblr media
this is all i can come up with at the moment, im sure there's more than im missing but this is solely for his physical design, theories will come later because im always thinking about him (im personally a supporter of the prince kaeya theory even though i think like abyss herald or mage is more realistic LMAO but a person can dream)
EDIT: I FORGOT HIS VISION IM SO SORRY
Tumblr media
this is the back of kaeya's vision, the only notable things are the lack of a third wing probably signifying he's sort of out of place, and the swirl? wave? whatever you wanna call it is on the wrong side. every other character with a double sided vision has the swirl on the other side like jean, diluc, mona, eula, lisa (etc..? i havent seen anyone else with a double sided vision which is also interesting, at least from mond)
Tumblr media
here's diluc's vision for comparison (also backside)

Okay but I love that Diluc and Kaeya like still communicate? Even if they can't be super friendly in person, they at least show how much they care about one another in their letters. And that Kaeya still annoys him lol

Confessions Series - Part 1: Overheard [Genshin Impact Male Characters]
Note: Welp I had the itch to write again so here I am. Though sleep deprived because baby keeps waking up every 3 hours to feed... I wanted to do this haha. Based on @soulprompts “I love you” prompts. What other character should I do?
Warnings: haven’t written in a while please excuse and tell me about pronoun slips, I’m sleep deprived, not proofread, some are just concepts of liking someone, having a crush on them, while some are full blown love confessions. SOME ARE ANGSTY, chose only the male characters I wanted to write for instead of forcing myself to do all of them.
Characters: Aether, Albedo, Alhaitham, Ayato, Cyno, Dainsleif, Diluc, Itto, Kaeya, Scaramouche, Xiao, gn!reader
Other works in this series: (Part 2 - Description)
Scenario: Talking to a friend about how you feel about him. Unbeknownst to you, he was listening, hidden round the corner. What does he do?
Aether
“He’s sweet,” You simply answer when asked what you like about Aether. “I mean, he’s a simple guy. He’s not a mystery, it’s not hard to read him nor to get along with him. I guess that’s one of the reasons why a lot of people like him.”
“Uhuh,” your friend drawls, their head lazily resting on their hand. “but you don’t just like Aether. You seriously LIKE him,”
You’re rendered speechless by the statement for a second, tripping over your first words, “Well--I mean--” and as if realizing you’re making a fool of yourself by speaking in garbles, you recover. “Yeah, I guess...” You don’t know why you admit to it, but it’s not like your friend didn’t already know.
What he does:
Is tempted to immediately walk up to you and reconfirm the conversation.
Stops himself for a minute and replays the whole conversation in his head, probably once, twice and maybe a third time.
Second guesses himself, but when he finally goes through all possible options, he realizes there’s no mistaking the overheard confession.
All the while, Paimon is nagging him to go talk to you. “You didn’t hear wrong! Stop thinking too much, hurry and go!” Ends up being pushed out into the open by his flying companion.
“Erm...Ahem” he coughs into his fist. “I...didn’t mean to eavesdrop...Y/N, sorry, but... can we continue this conversation somewhere else? Somewhere...a little more private?” and the shy smile he gives you is a tell tale sign that he had most likely felt the same.
Albedo
“His schedule is always busy. He has his hands full with Klee, on top of all the work he needs to do,” was your excuse to your friend when asked why you haven’t confessed to the alchemist yet. “I don’t think Albedo has time for this type of thing, you know? He doesn’t need a distraction.”
What he does:
His logical side agrees that he doesn’t need a distraction.
But the other part of him doesn’t mind if its you.
Pauses for a moment, thinks about it for a second, before confronting you about it just minutes later.
“...Schedules can be made flexible, Y/N,” you jump at his sudden voice. “Just as distractions...can sometimes be a good thing,” Albedo stretches a hand out to you. “...Care to test how good of one you can be to me?”
Alhaitham
“Y/N, Alhaitham is FAR from stupid. There’s no way he hasn’t figured out that you have a crush on him,”
“Shush!!” You swerve around to your friend, ducking a little, as if that would help you become invisible. “People could be listening, besides, if that’s true, then it’s even worse. It means that he knows, and probably has no interest in me, so let’s just forget about it, ok?”
What he does:
..................................No he doesn’t know. Sure he’s smart but............he could be dense when it came to these things. That, or he just didn’t know what to do.
Does not confront you about it immediately. In fact he turns around and walks away without being spotted, opting to think about his next steps instead of just rushing into the conversation.
Lo and behold a few days later he’ll show up in front of you with his usual stoic expression.
“Y/N,” he starts, and you freeze on the spot, looking up at him, blinking.
“Y-Yes?” You haven’t seen nor heard from him in days and as usual, you attributed it to him being busy. Little did you know that he had been mulling over how to talk to you.
“I heard your conversation with (your friend) the other day,” straightforward was his answer to everything, even in this particular situation.
It takes you a few seconds to internalize his words. You’re not even sure which conversation he means. You talk to (your friend) a lot. Your brows start to furrow in confusion, until he clarifies.
“...I wouldn’t say that I completely have no interest in you,” he starts, and your shoulders tense up, now realizing which conversation it was. You could feel your cheeks start to burn, all you wanted to do was run away.
Alhaitham holds back a sigh, “...Anyway, here is no place to talk about this... I’ll meet you at Puspa Cafe tonight, if you’re free,”
You’re FAR from stupid too, and knew exactly what he was trying to do.
Ayato
“Besides why would the Lord Commissioner even look at someone like me?” you hiss at your friend who was trying to persuade you that Ayato also had the hots for you. It just seemed a little delusional to you.
“He takes the chance to rile you up every time he sees you. He’s obviously doing it on purpose,” your friend counters. You roll your eyes up to high heaven.
“He does that to everyone...” you conclude, knowing that Ayato had the habit of--though you don’t know if intentionally--giving his servants a scare.
“Alright, alright, you don’t have to be so jealous,” your friend quips back, you send them a quick glare before going back to doing your own work.
What he does:
Doesn’t even bat an eye. Smirks as he hears the whole story.
Confidently reveals his presence to the two of you, chuckling.
“Jealousy doesn’t usually paint a beautiful colour,” he starts, the overly pleasant smile on his face. You straighten up immediately, eyes changing into saucers when you realize he had heard the whole thing. You open your mouth to explain, but he beats you to it.
“But I must say it looks a little different on you, Y/N, almost charming,” The side of his lip quirks up the slightest bit into a subtle grin. You bite your lip, there he is again trying to rile you up, maybe (your friend) was right.
“...Is there anything I can do for you Lord Commissioner?” you ask, trying to stray away from the subject. He only chuckles.
“You’ll find that there are a LOT of things you can do for me, Y/N. Start by accompanying me to tea, hm?” He wasn’t really asking, it was almost a command.
You wished your friend snickering on the side would just shut up.
Cyno
“...He’s a little intimidating don’t you think? I don’t know why you like him so much,” your friend comments, slacking off on their pile of paperwork. You roll your eyes at them.
“Maybe because he works hard, unlike other people,” you shake your head a little.
“As General Mahamatra he’s supposed to work hard. Just admit that you have weird tastes.” your friend counters, still procrastinating on their share of work.
“Okay, so what if he’s a little vicious in his ways? He’s just doing his job. Now, it would help me if you started doing yours as well,”
What he does:
Doesn’t know what to do.
Stands hidden for quite a long time. The subject has already moved on and away from him.
Torn between revealing himself now or later.
Can’t think properly so exits from the situation and comes back later that same day, when you’re still working with your friend.
As he approaches your table, your friend notices him first. (Your friend) nudges you with their elbow, tilting their chin up to let you know that someone was approaching.
You pick your head up, and feel yourself go rigid when you see that it’s Cyno. At first you think to yourself that he might not be here to talk to you, maybe he’s just about to walk by...but he stops in front of your table and you’re left to wordlessly look up at him.
There’s a moment of silence that seemed to stretch on forever.
“...I value the high praise that you give me,” he starts and you immediately want to duck under the table and hide.
He heard.
“O-Oh, G-General Mahamatra, you heard that...It’s...nothing, hard work deserves to be praised...” you avert your gaze down to the papers you were working on, pretending to continue and be busy with them.
There was an awkward pause, your eyes darting up towards him for a second, checking if he was still looking at you, before breaking away again and furiously flipping through papers.
“...Do you want to play some TCG?”
“Huh?” You end up with an incredulous look on your face, trying to gauge if he was serious. His face is still blank, but the usual tenseness in the way he carried himself gave way for a barely seen relaxation. It was hard to spot, but it was there.
You ended up sighing a little in what you could only describe as relief, giving him a lopsided smile. “Sure, but go easy on me, I haven’t played in a while,”
“That’s fine. Perhaps a daily practice session will do you good,”
Dainsleif
“Mysterious, aloof, disappears into thin air... A man like that? You probably should stay away, Y/N. You don’t know what he dabbles in,” (Your friend) warns, looking at you with genuine concern.
“Perhaps he has some secrets...but I don’t think he’s a bad guy at all. I’ve spent some time conversing with Dainsleif here and there,” you continue to wipe the tables, not noticing that the man you were talking about had long entered the tavern already and was now standing behind the two of you.
“At least he’s handsome, there’s that,” (Your friend) adds.
“Sure, but that’s not the only reason I like him,” you laugh.
What he does:
Wonders if he heard the conversation right and overanalyzes what you mean by “like” him.
Either way it stirs a strange emotion in him, one that he hadn’t felt in a long, long time.
Prefers to get things over with and thinks there’s no harm in confronting you immediately.
You hear someone clear their throat behind you. Thinking that it was a customer you turn around with a pleasant smile, only for it to slowly dwindle down into a shocked expression.
Dainsleif.
“Y/N,” he nods his head towards you casually. You gulp, force a smile, and nod back. “Hi, you’re early today,” just as your friend slips away from the conversation. Dainsleif doesn’t even spare them a glance.
He doesn’t have much to say about your comment of him being early. He doesn’t particularly know why he was early today either. Perhaps...fate would have him hear the conversation between you and (Your friend).
“Yes, well, it looks like there were benefits to being early today,” he meets you eye to eye, the intensity in his gaze almost makes you blush from your neck all the way up to the top of your head, but you fought the giddiness back.
“...What can I get you?” there’s a shiver that threatens to run up your spine, wondering if your deflection was successful. Dainsleif closes his eyes momentarily, before opening them with a strange sense of courage.
“Your company,”
Diluc
“It’s been years,” (Your friend) says, the two of you looking up at the massive oak tree of Windrise. They glance at you from the side of their eye before continuing. “Are you still in love with Diluc?”
There’s a breeze that passes, almost melancholic, and partly whispered of sorrow. “...I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving him.” You pick your hand up to rub at your arm. “Jean, Kaeya, Diluc and I...So many things have changed since we were kids...but I don’t think that spot for Diluc will ever go away,”
“Does he know, at least?” (Your friend) asks and you half scoff.
“I’m not sure, I get the feeling he does, but doesn’t act on it. Which is why...maybe the only way to solve this emptiness is to leave Mondstadt altogether.”
“Out of sight, out of mind huh?” (Your friend) claps your back, and turns around to start walking away with you.
What he does:
Internally a mess of emotions. Doesn’t know where to start.
but he’s just standing there and he’s stuck watching (your friend) and you turn around to come face to face with him.
He looks at you, a wave of memories and emotions flashing through his mind all at once, it almost overwhelms him.
“D-Diluc,” you stutter, heart freezing in your chest. You see him take a steadying breath in, prying his gaze away from you and over to (Your friend).
“(Your friend), could you give us a minute?” he asks. (Your friend) obliges, passing you a quick glance before going ahead on their own. Another breeze runs by, ruffling his long red hair.
“...I didn’t mean for you to hear that,” you start, and yet he doesn’t say anything, prompting you to continue talking. “...You don’t have to think about it too much, it’s just silly--”
“I wasn’t sure,” he cuts you off, eyes drawn to the ground now. “I wasn’t sure...if you really felt that way.”
The statement somehow exasperates you. “You weren’t sure? All those times I stayed by your side when everyone else left--” then it hits you. “Or were you scared, Diluc?”
The quick grimace in his expression tells you the answer. His reply comes a few seconds later, “I was, I still am,” but he picks his head up, and finally looks you straight in the eye. “...but this time...” his fists clench on his side. “This time give me the chance to show you how much I really care about you,”
He was not going to lose you too.
Itto
“Seriously?! Itto? Arataki Itto? Are you for real?” (Your friend) announces to nearly half of the food stall, the other customers swerving around to look at the two of you.
"Oh, say it a bit louder why don’t you?” You roll your eyes at your friend and continue eating.”
“Sorry. I just--Out of all the people you could choose, your huge crush is on that big brute??” your can tell by the look on your friend’s face that they think you have weird tastes.
What he does:
Butts in without even thinking of the conversation. Has no clue what’s going on.
“Crush?!”
You and your friend startle, swerving around to see none other than the oni with his hands on his hips. “Y/N?! You planning on crushing me?!” then he guffaws with laughter, slapping his knees in the process. “Yeah right, you’re no match for me!”
Your previously gaped open mouth slowly closes and your shoulders relax, sighing. You’re a little disappointed he doesn’t get it at all. Your friend shakes their head with a long sigh. “You stupid oaf, we don’t mean it that way...”
Itto’s head tilts sideways, a genuinely confused look on his face. “No? Then... Watcha all talkin about?”
You grab your friend’s arm and pull them forward the slightest bit. “It’s not important! Actually, we better get going--”
“Y/N has a CRUSH on you, idiot! Y/N LIKES you!” Your friend explodes, patience long gone.
Itto blinks at the confession, his eyes darts towards you, “...Oh,” then there’s the slight tugging at his chest, he can’t help but beam and smile silly. “Yeah? You’re not too bad yourself Y/N! I like you too!”
You’re not sure if he really understood the confession in its entirety.
Kaeya
“It’s all just fun and games with Kaeya. It doesn’t mean anything,” you laugh sheepishly, yet you rub the back of your neck a little.
“...Do you want it to be just fun and games?” your friend chides, and there’s a moment of silence. The two of you just sitting there already knowing the answer, it’s almost uncomfortable, until your friend sighs.
“...Let’s change the subject,”
What he does:
responds immediately. Will not wait a second longer to come out of his hiding place and ask about what he just heard.
“How about let’s not?” Kaeya emerges out of nowhere, slipping into the seat next to you at the cafe. His poise is confident and instantly his head lazily places itself into the palm of his hand, gaze lingering at you.
“Snowflake, I had no idea you felt like that,” his voice is smooth like ice and you bite your lip to keep yourself from saying something stupid.
“...I didn’t say anything though?” you countered, trying to evade the conversation. Your friend watches on with interest.
“Silence speaks volumes, Y/N,” Kaeya scoots even closer to you, your shoulders touching each other. However, he maneuvers his arm around to lay on the seat behind you. “So if you’re opposed to what I’m about to do, better speak up,”
He leans closer, inch by inch, he waits for you to say something.
You stay silent.
He grins.
Scaramouche
“Hat guy? He’s brutal. But who am I to comment on your tastes, Y/N. You’ve always been weird,” (Your friend) chides, watching as you go over the bookshelf again.
“Stop calling him that,” You murmur under your breath, more focused on finding the right book for your research. “That’s not his only distinctive feature, you know,” you continue, still engrossed in looking for a book.
“Oh? What else are his “distinctive features”?” (Your friend) drawls, rolling their eyes.
You hum a little, then plop on the ground cross-legged, wanting to get a better look on the last row of books of the Akademiya’s library. “...His eyes,” you simply answer. “They’re a beautiful shade of violet-blue...He’s always glaring at someone half of the time but he actually has very pretty eyes,”
There’s silence and you finally get the peace you need to concentrate. However, that silence is broken by a voice that you know all too well.
What he does:
is amused.
thinks its cute pathetic.
will still look angry but will have a hard time actually being angry.
will be cocky.
“My eyes, huh?”
It’s hard to completely turn around in your sitting position, so you do the best you can to turn, side eye landing on Scaramouche’s form. He has his arms crossed as usual, but there’s a smug smirk on his face. “Didn’t know it was that fascinating to you, bookeater,”
It was supposed to be an insulting nickname for you, who always had your nose in a book, but you took no offense to it at all.
You didn’t know what to say, so you continued staring at him. He being the anti-social person that he was, just stared back. There was a big gap of silence before he felt that it was becoming too awkward.
“...What’re you looking for?” he blurted out.
“...A book...”
“Are you stupid? Of course you’re looking for a book. I meant what’s the title?” There his usual sneer was back again and he unfolded his arms to look at you unimpressively.
“...A History of Inazuma: Volume 2...” you meekly replied, slowly realizing that he actually heard you praising him.
“You’re in the wrong section,” the exasperated sigh he gives out causes you to wince, and you turn away back to the bookshelf as if to shield you from all this embarrassment.
“If it’s about Inazuma, you should just be asking me,” you blink as your peripheral catches sight of an outstretched hand. You tilt your head to see that he’s offering his hand, but his face is blank.
“...Well? Come on. I don’t have all day,”
You bite your lip to keep yourself from smiling, something about the way he said it sounds threatening, but also slightly playful. But that’s just the way he was.
You accept his hand, and he pulls you up easily.
Xiao
“Oh so that’s why you’re coming over more frequently...” (Your friend) grins, and you wave your hands around to tell them to quiet down. Adepti had good hearing after all.
“Well, I’m also coming over cause Verr Goldet needs more help these days in the kitchen. You guys are getting so much customers these days that Yanxiao has a hard time by himself,”
“Uhhuuhhhhhh, sure...was it also Verr Goldet who told you to try and master the Almond Tofu recipe from Yanxiao? Cause you’re awfully hell bent on trying to learn that recipe, according to Yanxiao,”
You fall silent, feeling heat crawling up your neck. “I--” You start, searching for an excuse, but realized there was no escaping this one. “I just want to do something nice for Xiao, that’s all,” you innocently quip. “I...I know I can’t help him much, but maybe just cooking his favourite dish will help, even a little,”
(Your friend) smiles a little, knowing that the adepti probably heard everything. “That’s nice of you, Y/N. You must care about him a lot,”
What he does:
once upon a time he would do absolutely nothing. because getting involved with humans is something he shouldn’t do.
But now he bides his time, and observes if it’s safe to open up.
He wouldn’t outright thank you at first, but he’ll slowly show up in front of you a little more everyday.
He’s rather awkward, so at first he only nods his head as thanks when you leave the bowl of almond tofu on the ledge.
Eventually when he realizes you’re not going to stop cooking for him he goes the extra mile to do something simple for you too.
He places a stalk of your favourite flower on the ledge, right before you come to put down his bowl of almond tofu.

Nick-Names - Genshin
Characters: Xiao, Scaramouche, Venti, Lyney, Albedo, Kaveh, Thoma, Diluc, Childe, Heizou, Kazuha x GN reader
Warnings: a lot of cheesy and weird nicknames, if you dont like some for a specific char you're welcome to send me your ideas, could be modern au, established relationship
(you can clearly see that i prob put in an OC, so im so sry, but some i just also really head-canon as the "would rather date a loving person than be loving" if you get what i mean)
Summary: both of your pet names for each other, some silly some sweet
Note: you can really tell where i had no ideas for nicknames. and ik i use both 'pet names' and 'nicknames' but im just kinda stupid and didnt care to change stuff when i was already done with it. also i may just have a problem but why does princess sound 10x better than prince, no matter your gender, anyway love youuuu
Tumblr media
Xiao
He will always say what is on his mind, and he did the same thing when you brought up using pet names. he wasn't very fond of the idea, and sometimes he still isn't(depending on the situation). but he has gotten used to it more over time, like when you burst open his door and to talk to him while using the most absurd nicknames he´s ever heard of.
__
Pet names for you: lovely, qinxing, [shorter version of your name](sry people with short names, i fell ya)
Pet names for him: babe, baby, cutie, dove, birdy, my alatus
Scaramouche
Will never admit he likes being called weird things by you, EVER. if he did then he was drunk and he was totally lying. and that counts with calling you stuff as well, he would rather die than admit he doesn't just call you that bc you wanted him to.
__
Pet names for you: idiot, princess/prince, dear
Pet names for him: smoochi, love
Venti
He was probably the one who suggested the idea at first, like two days/weeks (seconds) into your relationship. i also think he already had at least one nickname for you when you were "just friends", in the crushing phase, and has some for all his other friends as well(prob also his teachers if school au, lul).
__
Pet names for you: windblume, cecilia, [insert the cheesiest thing you can think of], my love
Pet names for him: venni, my dear, sweetheart, my bard
Lyney
He would be over the moon if you gave him a nickname, and would instantly be looking like a tomato too. would increase its usage by tenfolds if you said you liked one of his nicknames. you cannot stop him even if you somehow got 'Father' involved.
__
Pet names for you: babe, mon trésor, mon amour, beautiful
Pet names for him: sweetie, amour, lyn
Albedo
He didn't really see a use for it at first, finding it kind of useless. but sooner or later realized how happy you looked when he had somehow slipped up and called you 'love' when he needed your assistance. and later just didn't bother to stop.
__
Pet names for you: love, my cecelia, my dear
Pet names for him: 'bedo, lovely, (my) genius
Kaveh
He LOVES nick-names, probably made one for everyone in the friend group(yk alhaitham, tighnari n cyno), and would be delighted to make some up for you.
__
Pet names for you: beloved, lovely
Pet names for him: baby,
Thoma
He really wanted to try using them, yes he calls Ayato and Ayaka my lord and my lady, but its just not the same as calling your lover something sweet. and good luck if you don't like it, he's keeping those names forever.
__
Pet names for you: babe, sweetheart, baby, sleepyhead, lovely
Pet names for him: babe, love
Diluc
He honestly wasn't a fan at first, he hated it even. but of course, you being you, insisted on using names for him, and encouraged him to at least try to use some for you. so he kinda got into routine with it.
__
Pet names for you: my love, my dear
Pet names for him: dear, red head, love, my hero
Childe
Of course, he would use nick-names and such, he uses nick-names for the traveler and paimon, so of course he would be using such with you. honestly how could he not, especially when you're looking all cute cuddled up in his hoodie.
__
Pet names for you: my love, beloved, cupcake
Pet names for him: ginger, ma strong man(only for teasing purposes), hubby
Heizou
He'll almost never call you by your actual name, he didnt even when you two were just friends, only in the most serious of times would he do that. so it was no surprise that when you actually started dating, they could only become sweeter and cheesier as time goes by.
__
Pet names for you: princess/prince, baby, beautiful, (my) sunshine
Pet names for him: hei, zou-zou, babe
Kazuha
He loves it bc no matter what you call him he'll be happy. and he makes sure you have "some" as well, and i guess he just can't stop coming up with more, and they're always more cheesy than the last. you don't know how he does it, but maybe its just his poetry skills coming through.
__
Pet names for you: dove, (my) love, sweetheart, sweetie, my dear
Pet names for him: kazu, dear

"Do Paimons Dream of Floating Sheep?"
Mondstadt: Part I Part II Part III Part IV
Based on this
Featuring: Gender-Neutral Reader, Paimon! Reader, Yandere Genshin Impact, Aether, Albedo, Eula, Diluc, Kaeya, Lisa, Venti
Word count: 1.7k
Synopsis: Being dragged into the world of your favorite video game is hardly your idea of a relaxing Saturday, and being dragged into the world of your favorite game, taking over the role of mascot even less so. Unfortunately, it seems fate has no interest in what you consider to be a normal day, and it will do anything to replace your idea of normal entirely.
Includes: Blackmail, imprisonment, drugging, injury, kidnapping, nonconsensual kiss, suicide
Note: This is the final installment.
This is only your guess, but it seems the futures that the Archive shows you are only possibilities. It's your own choices that dictate which, if any, become true. In that way, they’re similar to the hangout quests in the original game. Unfortunately, the Archive doesn't tell you what choices you have to make in order to get your desired ending. You flip through more threads of fate.
•~•~•~•~•~•
“It’s quite simple, [Name]. All you have to do is take my hand, and we can put this whole thing behind us.” You look down at Kaeya’s outstretched hand, a bead of sweat rolling down your back. You thought he was your friend.
That was before he had you jailed for false charges. You gaze up at him in resentment, spitting on the hand he offered you.
“Now, now,” he says, wiping his hand with a handkerchief. “There’s no need to throw a temper tantrum. I know this situation isn’t ideal, but can you really blame me for getting a bit impatient? You’ve been playing hard to get for so long now I was really starting to get the impression that you weren’t interested.” It’s amazing just how close to the truth he can get while still being delusional. “Think about it,” he says, turning around and leaving you in your cell. Alone, again.
•~•~•~•~•~•
You take an uncomfortable sip of your tea, not missing the careful way that Lisa examines you as you do. She’s been watching you carefully for a while now. Maybe if you were smarter, you would have asked about it.
It’s a little too late for regrets now, though. You can already feel the drug take its effects.
The edges of your vision go fuzzy until Lisa is the only thing in focus. You feel your mind floating away as you fawn over her, with her reciprocating just as much. You give yourself to the feeling, loving how you no longer need to think, how you no longer need to focus on anything that wasn’t her.
How could you ever have thought of resisting her? Of trying to run away from her and her loving embrace?
You must have been out of your mind.
•~•~•~•~•~•
The chain clinks rhythmically as Aether tugs you along, his fingers interlaced with yours. Sometimes, you wonder what the point of the bindings are, if he’s just just going to hold your hand anyway, but you dare not voice these thoughts of yours, too afraid of his reaction.
Aether has been…eractic, recently. His mood swings are out of control, and it’s all you can do to avoid setting him off, walking on eggshells like your life depends on it—which it sort of does. He would never hurt you, he says, but the bruises on your arms tell a different story.
He would never hurt you, he says, except for all the times he has.
What a gentleman, right?
•~•~•~•~•~•
Eula doesn’t say anything as she slides a ring onto your finger. An old family heirloom, she had told you earlier. It had just been sitting around, collecting dust, when she found it and thought of you. It didn’t mean anything. It was just a pretty trinket from a friend. That’s all.
She didn’t tell you that the ring had thorns.
They face backward, making the ring easy to slip on but excruciating to take off. A simple sign of her affection for you. Pretty on the outside but suffocating within. Eula was not nearly as subtle as she liked to think, but even so, you play along.
She’s easier to deal with when she’s not being honest.
•~•~•~•~•~•
You wake up with a searing headache. You don’t quite know how you got in this situation, all you remember is taking a midnight stroll, feeling something heavy hit your head, and then, nothing. You’re blindfolded, but you can still tell some things from your other senses. Like how you’re currently tied up on a bed.
You think you’ve been kidnapped. But by who? Who would do such a thing, and why to you? You don’t have money to ransom, you’ve got no grudges with anyone, you don’t have anything that a kidnapper would want. The idea that maybe they’re targeting you to get to Aether crosses your mind, but if that were the case, why would they place you on a bed? Why use silk for your bindings instead of harsh ropes or chains?
It doesn’t make sense.
“Ah, you’re awake.” You perk up immediately. You know that voice, it’s Diluc! Is he here to rescue you? But, wait…what was that he said? ‘You’re awake,’ it’s almost like…he already knew about your situation.
It’s almost like…he was the one who put you in it. But that can’t be right.
Can it?
•~•~•~•~•~•
Your feet ache. A side effect of the surgery, Albedo tells you. You can’t believe him. You said you were leaving to Liyue once, and the next thing you know, he’s put you under anesthesia and severed your Achilles tendons. Maybe you should be more horrified about this, but right now all you can feel is annoyance. Perhaps you’ve already grown used to Albedo and his possessive tendencies.
Perhaps you’re simply banking on your ability to fly. Sure, it’s true that you’ve never flown since that day, but that doesn’t mean you’ve suddenly forgotten how to. It’ll be easy. All you have to do is get over your paralyzing fear of heights, bypass the cabin locks Albedo installed, find an opportunity to get away, survive the sheer cold of Dragonspine, and then you’re home free.
Or, maybe you’d be better off adjusting to a life of captivity.
•~•~•~•~•~•
“Close your eyes,” Venti says in his usual boyish, cheerful tone. As if the two of you were simply playing. As if he doesn’t have you cornered in an alley, his hands locking yours in place.
You close your eyes. Instantly, you feel his lips on yours, again. His lips move against yours in a careful rhythm, almost like the songs he used to play for you. Peaceful times like that feel so far away. Now, your relationship is coded only in violence, only in him taking, taking what doesn’t belong to him. His grip on your arm tightens as he squeezes, the message clear. You kiss back, disgusted by how easily you give in to his whims.
It takes all the will and self-restraint you have not to try and push him off—you already know such an attempt would fail, anyway. After all, you’re only human. And a human has no chance of winning a fight against a god.
So much for the city of freedom.
•~•~•~•~•~•
Okay, the idea of being in the world of your favorite video game was fun at first, but this is too much. You can't do this. You need a way out.
But…how do you find an exit when you've never even seen the entrance?
You flip through more pages of the Archive. You scroll through information on weapons, characters, and items. You read about local specialties, character ascension materials, and enemy mobs. None of it helps. You find nothing.
You keep searching.
You find nothing.
You look again.
Nothing. Again. Again. Again.
The world seems to fade in and out of existence as you search until it finally melts away completely. Your vision goes fuzzy, with black splotches blocking the light, but only for a moment. When you open your eyes, you realize that you are no longer in the dungeon. You are in an infinite white that stretches out for as far as you can see. The only thing besides you is the Archive.
You look through it for a final time.
You find something. Finally. Finally, you find something. A plain white envelope falls out from between the pages. You aren’t sure how you missed it before.
Carefully, you tear open the envelope with the conveniently provided letter opener and read its contents. You don't like what you find.
Experiment Number 0000,
I hope that this letter finds you well, though I know that it will not have. If you were well, you would never have seen this letter in the first place. If you have found this letter, it means that things have already gone sideways or are about to. I am sure you are reading this hoping for answers. To find this letter is to have already doomed yourself. The moment you opened the book and started reading you tore open the fabrics of reality. Timelines are like strings, and your actions have molded them into a mangled knot. I do not quite know how you have found yourself in such a bizarre situation, only that you have.
I suppose I owe you an explanation, don’t I?
This book—the Archive, as you call it—is not a book at all. It is more like a ledger. What you have found, 0000, is not the future but instead a collection of the past.
This is not your first life.
My colleagues and I have been experimenting with eternal life and reincarnation. We tested on animals first, but nothing can ever truly replace a real, living human. I tried to stop them, believe me, I did. But I am just as powerless in the situation as you are. I could do nothing to stop their cruelty. The only thing I could do—the only thing I can do, is to write this letter, and to hope that it reaches you. Enclosed is a tool that will aid in your escape.
I am sorry, 0000. This will be your last life.
Sincerely,
0001.
As you read through the letter, flashes of memories return to you. You remember events that have never happened in this life. You remember dying, living, killing. You remeber being kidnapped, bludgeoned, abused. You remeber being loved, cared for, and killed. You remeber everything. All these lives that you’ve lived…they must all total to well over a hundred years. You’ve had enough. You’ve lived for far too long and seen far too many things.
You need a way out.
You look down at the letter opener in your hands. No, wait, it’s not a letter opener.
It’s a dagger.
You have no other choice. Anything to escape this hell.
And just like that, you plunge the dagger into your heart.

Too little, too late
Tumblr media
im bored on a drive and I have nothing to do, so why not have some angst?? Mostly supposed to genshin, but I kinda wanna do honkai star rail too, so if you see traveler or paimon its trailblazer and march 7th :)
When he first heard you utter your words of affirmation for him, he knew not what to say or do. He knew that you had feelings for him, but for reasons unknown to either of you, he denied your feelings.
Seeing the pained expression on your face made him want to take back his words, but he knew this was for the best, other wise you'd only get hurt in the end.
Either way, it hurt you, with a heavy heart, and tears in your eyes you left him there alone as he tried to ignore the way his chest panged in guilt and agony at your expression.
It was the last time he ever seen you, he would wait and wait as if you would come back to him as casual as the the days before your confession, but why aren't you here now?
He'd be lying if he said his heart didn't drop when the Traveler (or Trailblazer) ran to him, a panicked expression with small tears in their eyes.
So when they told him of your injured state, he knew to get up and go along with them as the traveler led him to a clinic.
A nurse greeted the two, and out came a doctor from the back with a solemn expression and all bloodied, his eyes on the ground before he looked up a bit taken back from the amount of people.
He opened his mouth, but the doctor held up his hand, just as a nurse went to the back to console a sobbing Paimon (or March 7th). With the cries that reached his ears, you were no longer in this world anymore.
Traveler's (Trailblazer's) hands flew to their mouth as their own tears cascaded down their cheeks as they moved to go see your body before you were moved elsewhere for your burial.
As he was left there, he could help but feel as if it was his fault you were dead. If things would have went differently on that day, would you still be alive and in his arms?
No matter he forced himself to go to the back room, and nothing could prepare himself for what he seen in the small room.
Of course he looked over to Paimon and Traveler (March 7th and Trailblazer) who were sobbing like children, he want to console them, because he knew he would be the same if he looked over to your bloodied corpse on the medical bed.
His throat tighten, and he felt like he couldn't breathe when looked over to all the blood. Cuts, bruises, and large gashes covered your body as he felt his eyes burn.
A choke sob left his body as he took large stride to your side of the bed. He dropped to his knees and took one of your bloodies limp hands in his and he felt himself sob harder as he could no longer feel any warmth to you.
You were gone and you never got to hear the words he wished to say to you all those days ago. Nor will you ever get to hear him much he actually loved and adored you.
He was too late to realize his own feelings, how stupid of him, right Y/n?

Masterlist
Tumblr media
Aether
Its tall figure stood in front of you in an intimidating manor, "You wish to mess with the abyss," the deep voice said. Fear spilled through your blood, and your body stood paralyzed from the anxiety. 'The abyss herald' you thought to yourself, 'no please no'. You tried to run, but nothing happened. The blue figure only crouched forward. "You will perish"
~Aethers POV~
'Today was long,' I thought to myself as I walked to the house in the teapot. As I opened the door, whimpers and shouts could be heard. Paimon looked at me with worried eyes, "(y/n)!" My thoughts rushed. How did someone break in?! I slammed open the bedroom door only to find my shaking spouse, Paimon flying in after, their eyes wide as tears spilled out. "What happened?!" I shouted slightly, the grip on my sword tightening. I looked around for any signs of intrusion, and it then became clear on what happened.
I sighed softly, placing my sword down. I grabbed their body, humming them sweet nothings. "What happened?" I asked again, quietly this time. Not trying to upset them any more than they were. "The abyss." Their voice was quiet, filled with fear. My heart dropped. "they did so much. It felt so real. " Paimon hugged their arm slightly.
My eyes teared slightly, 'I'm hurting them,' I thought to myself. My grip on them tightened. "It's just a dream, I will always save you. They won't ever put a hand on my beloved." They sobbed quietly into my chest, "Please don't leave Aether." My heart panged. "I would never leave you, not for anyone. Or anything." Paimon then rubbed their head "Yeah! If they even try they will have to suffer the wrath of Paimon!"
Tumblr media
Albedo
You helped your boyfriend with his experiments quite often. This one was testing sleeping patterns with a potion he had made. You laid on the padded table, and his hands placed the pillow under your head. "Sleep well, darling, we will go over the results when you wake." he kissed your forehead, carefully injecting the liquid into your veins. You world quickly going dark.....
~Narrators POV~
Not much was happening. Their body laid eerily still on the table, Albedo writing down notes. The male then got up and grabbed his stethoscope. He placed it upon his lovers chest. His eyes shot wide, and their heartbeat was abnormally fast. He stayed their for a short while, waiting for the beating to slow. However, it only quickened.
His hand grabbed a spare potion as well as some salts. He injected their vein with the new liquid and placed the salts under their nose, and his lovers' eyes shot open. He slowly sat them up, carefully bringing a glass of water up to their mouth. "Did I take it too far?" He asked carefully. He wasn't quite sure what had happened while their body was at rest. "No, you didn't. It seems I had a nightmare 'Bedo." He nodded, swiftly noting that down.
"Would you like to speak on the matter?" His thumbs rubbed their knuckles lovingly, and they nodded and let out a relieved sigh. "It was just your clone, ha, seeing you get stabbed, wasn't that cool." His face contorted into one of regret. "I see, I do deeply apologize," he kissed their forehead softly, helping them stand. "Let's grab some fresh air."
Tumblr media
Diluc
His spouses head laid on his lap as he finished up some paper work, their breathing was slow, signaling that they had fallen asleep. He smiled softly to himself. "How have I gotten so lucky?" he muttered softly, kissing their temple before allowing his attention to go back to his work.
A few minutes went by, and his attention was quickly torn from his work when their shaking hand grabbed his leg. "No, no," they whispered in their sleep. His lovers' eyes were still closed, lip slightly trembling. He quickly added the dots together. "Dear?" He said softly, "Wake up, my love, come on," he said, shaking their body delicately.
~(y/n) pov~
His body laid limp in Kaeyas' arms, tears globbed from his one eye. "He.... he took the hit for me." The cyro male mumbled, his voice cracking softly. "No, NO." You ran up to his body, and your eyes met with the crimson liquid that stained his mouth. You and Kaeya both sobbed over his body, "There's gotta be something, we... we can take him to the statue! He'll heal! Right!" Kaeya only shook his head, more tears spilling from his eye. "It too far gone."
Ringing filled your ears as you shook your head in denial. However, a soft voice filled your brain. "-my love, come on.".......
Your body shot up only for it to be met with the concerned arms of your husband. "Hey, it's alright now, I got you." he kissed your forehead, hugging you tightly. "I'm here," he rocked his body slowly, "Let's go for a walk my love, we can talk about it then if you wish"
Tumblr media
Kaeya
His body stood over yours, his eyepatch off revealing a golden eye. He smirked. "You are truly stupid, ah you poor thing. I only used you to get the role Captian."
His hand gripped your face roughly, wiping the tear and licking it. "Awe, dear, already crying, are we? How weak." He slapped your face, his eyes looking down at you with hatred. "Do as you please." He said to those with Fatui masks. "They are useless to us now."
~Narrators POV~
"Come on (y/n)! Get up!" Kaeya shook his lovers body, successfully waking them. However, when their eyes stared at him in fear, he quickly let go of them. Their eyes pooled with tears. "Kae...." they mumbled. "You aren't using me, are you?" Their weak voice broke the cyros' heart. "My dove, I would never. I don't know what happened in that terror of yours. But whatever the case, it's not the truth."
His heart ached at the hesitancy when he hugged his lover. "You're simply the most important thing to me. Never doubt that." He softly said. He then laid on the bed and brought them to his chest. "Sleep now, when you wake, I will be here. You same old Kae."
Tumblr media
Venti [Barbatos]
Your body lifted from the couch, your heart beating heavily against your ribs. It was a silly nightmare, really it was. An impossibly large toucan from Sumeru had chased you down and tried to make you its next lunch. Despite the silliness, it still struck fear into your heart. Which didn't get missed by your husband. The front door slammed open, the bard rushing though, striking more fear into your body than the nightmare had. His eyes peered into yours.
"The wind -" he interrupted himself with a heavy gasp, "it told me," he continued to try and catch his breath, "nighmare" he finally managed to mutter before plopping his body on yours. "Barb, how far did you run?" You askedslightly amused. "I would run across all of Teyvat my windblume"
You blushed slightly at his remark. "I was chased by an eight foot bird," you bluntly said. He giggled loudly and held his stomach. "A bird! Ehe, I could easily protect you from a bird." You smiled softly and grabbed his hand. "Well, you didn't in my sleep, you stink!" He gasped and held his chest "The pain oh god! It hurts! My poor soft heart!"
Tumblr media
Xiao
"XIAO," you yelled out, only for him not to come. Your heart dropped to your stomach, 'he.... he said he'd always come.' You thought to yourself. The Geo Lawachurl charged at you again. You just barely dodged it. "XIAO, PLEASE!" You yelled again. However, he still didn't respond. "I'm gonna die, please, please, please, please xiao..."
~Xiaos POV~
"xiao" a quiet voice strung itself in my brain. It a flash, I stood in front of their bed, their body was shivering as tears escaped your eyes. "What happened?" I scanned their bodies for injuries.... "xiao" their voice muttered again. "I need you to tell me-" he stopped his sentence when he noticed they were asleep.
He carefully shook his lovers body, confused on what to do. When their eyes opened, he looked at them with worry. "(Y/n)?" He asked carefully. They trembled slightly. "You came." They said, hugging his body. "I told you I would. What do you take me for?" They shook their head softly. "Please stay with me tonight." My heart stopped for a second, but I nodded. "I'm here."
Tumblr media
Zhongli
Your eyes went wide as you sat up from his lap, Zhongli placed his tea down and moved his attention quickly to you. "Honey?" His deep voice filled your ears, you shot your eyes towards him and sighed softly. "Never do that again 'Li" you said. His golden eyes looked into yours with confusion. "I do not understand. Have I done something to upset you?" His hand held yours softly. You smiled and shook your head.
"You turned into a damn dragon and struck into war." He hummed softly, grabbing his tea and handing it to you. "Drink this it'll calm your nerves, I assure you, my love. My duties as the God of Contracts have long been over. I am here with you now." You smiled at his reassuring words, "Good. If you leave me, I will damn your soul." You said with a straight face, and his eyes widened a small smile, painting his lips. "I would never leave such a treasure."

Xiao
A cool breeze made its way through Liyue as Xiao was perched on the railing on upper balcony of the Wangshu Inn. Looking out into the vast landscapes of Liyue was nothing new to Xiao as he’s been around protecting Liyue for centuries now. He let the wind blow through his hair. The adeptus looked down at his left hand as he twisted his wedding band back and forth on his finger.
He smiled to himself though he never thought that he would be married. Or get so close to someone whatsoever but that all changed when he met the Traveler, Aether and his two companions, Paimon and you. Xiao thought you were just a simple mortal though he’s seen your power.
You’ve traveled countless worlds before you came here and your appearance hasn’t changed much over the years you’ve been married, well maybe now that’s not necessarily true.
“Xiao?” The sound of your voice caught his attention as he turned to see you, in flowy dress, your hair blew in your face because of the wind then you brushed it back so you can see your loving husband.
“Y/n,” Xiao hopped off the balcony railing as he made his way over to you. “Why are you out of bed? You should be resting.” He said as he touched your pregnant belly.
You frowned, scoffing a bit. “Xiao, I’m pregnant not sick.” You said.
“You might as will be,” Xiao crossed his arms over his chest. “You shouldn’t put too much stress on yourself.” He said.
You rolled your eyes at your husband. “You know you have gotten more protective since I’ve became pregnant.” You said.
“More… Protective? How absurd.” Xiao scoffed.
“Really? You don’t believe me. Well, my dear husband I have you know that you’ve protective of me since we first met moreso when we got together. I’m not fragile, you know. I’m immortal remember.” You said.
“I know. I just… I care for you so much as well as our unborn child. That I, I don’t want anything to take you away.” Xiao placed a hand on your cheek, you did so to him in return.
“Oh, Xiao,” You smiled. “That reminded of one of the letters you sent to me before I came back to live in Liyue. You are quite the sap, my love.” You said, chuckling at your comment and kissed his cheek.
Xiao groaned. “Shut your mouth.” He said.
“Well, I’m hungry. I’m eating for two, you know. And I’m craving some almond tofu. How about you?” You asked Xiao with smile.
“Of course, darling.” Xiao replied with.
How’d did he get so lucky with you.
<===>
Kaeya
“Papa!” A voice of a young girl echoed through the halls of the Knights of Favonius Headquarters. Her hair was H/c with a stripe of blue that stood out in her bangs. Her blue eyes went well with her light tan skin as she smiled ear to ear.
“D/n! Wait for Mommy, please!” You exclaimed a bit out of breath since you are six months pregnant with your second child and because you have to keep up with a 4 year old.
“But, Mama,” D/n whined. “I want to find Papa!” She exclaimed.
You sighed a bit. “Yes, I know.” You said.
“Oh my~! What do we have here?” That voice sounded familiar.
“Auntie Lisa!” D/n exclaimed running up to the Librarian.
You smiled seeing the older woman. “Lisa,” You walked over as you watched your child giving her a hug. “It’s been awhile. It’s nice to see you.”
“It’s nice to see you too, hon. Looking for Kaeya I assume?” Lisa asked.
“Yes! As you can imagine, D/n has been running me ragged to see him.” You sighed out.
“Oh, you poor thing. Then, I should fetch your husband for you.” Lisa said.
“Thank you, Lisa.” You said with a smile.
“Are we going to see Papa now?” Your daughter asked.
“Yes. But, you have to be patient, D/n.” You said.
D/n smiled, grabbing your hand. “Okay, Mommy.” She said.
Minutes later, you saw your husband walking towards you with Lisa behind him and your daughter’s eyes sparkled as they widened when she saw him. Letting go of your hand, she over to Kaeya.
“Papa!” She exclaimed.
“Hey, my little flower,” Kaeya exclaimed picking her up into his arms and continued his way to you. “Hello, milady. How are you?” He asked kissing your cheek.
“I’m fine, exhausted but fine.” You said.
“Is it because of this troublemaker!” Kaeya said kissing his daughter’s cheek.
“Yes… She gets that from you, ya know.” You grumbled.
Kaeya frowned a bit. “Oh come now, you don’t actually think that.” He said.
“I do. And I hope our next child is nothing like you.” You teased.
“Oh. you wound me, Y/n!” Kaeya said, smirking as your daughter laughed at your husband’s antics.
A sigh was heard from Lisa. You didn’t know she was still hanging about. “You two still haven’t changed after all these years. Well, I have to get back to work, it was nice seeing you, Y/n.” Lisa said walking off and going back into the library.
“Bye, Auntie Lisa!” Your daughter said waving.
“She’s right, you know.” Kaeya said.
“Huh?” You raised an eyebrow at him.
“Since we first met, we started acting like married couple but now,” Kaeya looked at his wedding band with a smile. “We made it official.”
You flushed. “Stop talking, Kaeya. There’s children in the room.” You said.
“I love you too, milady.”

Diluc
“Father?”
Diluc looked up from his paperwork as his son, S/n opened the door to his study and walked up to his desk. The boy was no older than 7 and he looked identical to his father but he has his mother’s E/c eyes.
“Yes,” He answered. “What is it?” Diluc asked.
“When can I learn swordsmanship?” He asked.
S/n was very straightforward and blunt for a 7 year old and way too smart for his own good.
Diluc sighed. “You’re only seven. Maybe when you’re a little older.” He said.
“But that’s not what mother said.” S/n said.
That caught his attention. “What did your mother say?” He asked.
“That you could teach me now!” S/n said, looking very proud of himself with his hands on his hips and a smirk on his face.
“Really now,” Diluc said lowly. “Is that so?
S/n flinched a bit at his father’s tone. “Ah, y-yes…” He said.
“That’s hard to believe,” Diluc said getting up from his chair. He walked away from his desk and towards the door. “Let’s go find your mother then.” He said.
S/n sighed. “Okay…” He said as he followed Diluc out of his study and to the living room.
There you sat on the couch, reading a book. You looked a bit tired yet being pregnant has taken it’s toll on you yet you weren’t prepared for what was about come next.
“Hello, darling.” Diluc’s voice took you away from your book. You looked to him and smiled that you saw S/n standing next your husband looking off to the side. You were a bit confused.
“Hello, hon. Do you need something?” You asked.
“Well, your son here told me that you said that I could train him in swordsmanship. I just wanted to confirm if it’s true or not.” Diluc said crossing his arms over his chest.
You frowned as you looked over to your son who had the audacity to hide behind his father. Oh, your father is not going to save you from your mother’s wrath, kid.
“You little fibber! I told you that you’ll have to be a little older before you can learn the sword,” You sighed. “And you go lie to your father… geez what am I going to do with you.” You said massaging your temple.
“I’m sorry, Mom…” S/n mumbled.
“I know you want to learn the sword but, you’ll have to be patient, okay. Can you do that for me?” You asked.
S/n nodded. “Yes, mom. I can do that.”
“Thank you. Why don’t you play?” You said.
“Okay.” S/n said as he walked out the living room and went up the stairs.
You looked Diluc and sighed, slouching your shoulders. “He is so much like me, it’s exhausting.” You said.
Diluc chuckled. “True. Though I find it much more charming when it comes from you.” He said.
You smiled, rolling your eyes. “I was such a troublemaker and a terrible lair when we first met, Diluc.” You said.
“That I was aware of. We didn’t get along at first but,” He paused looking to his wedding ring then back to look at you. He smiled. “I wouldn’t change anything even if our first meeting wasn’t the best. Love having you as my wife, darling.” Diluc said, taking you hand and giving it a kiss.
You blushed. “I can never get used to you talking like that, Diluc,” You said yet you smiled at him. “Let’s hope our next child is more like you.”
He chuckled at your comment. “Certainly.”

Gorou
Gorou’s life has gotten a slight bit more chaotic. The former doggie general has fought meaning unpredictable battle but the ones that are unpredictable are the ones started by his four children. It was mostly two against two, the two oldest verses the two youngest. It was always a never ending battle that Gorou could never stop, well until he brought out his secret weapon.
“Your mother will handle this when she gets back.” Gorou said.
His four children froze, ears dropping and eyes widened.
“No, Papa! Not Mom!” One exclaimed.
“Yeah. She’ll punish all of us.” Another said.
“That’s not fair!” The third one whined.
Gorou sighed. “It’s not my fault that the four of you rage war in the house over the smallest things like a toy or even food.” He said.
Pouting ensued between the four hybrid children until their ears perked as the front door opened. Their mother was home.
“Gorou, children! I’m home.” You called.
“You four wait here.” Gorou said as walked towards the front door to greet you.
“Hi, dear,” Gorou said smiling at you. “How was the doctor?” He asked.
“Hi. It was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary though I do have some news for you and the children. Where are they anyway?” You asked.
Gorou’s ears twitched and crossed his arms. “Their in the living room. They’ve been fighting over a toy all afternoon.” He said.
“Again?” You asked raising an eyebrow. “This is the fifth time this week. Those pups will never learn.” You said.
“I’m sorry,” Gorou’s ears fell back. “I try and keep the peace between them without pulling the ‘I’m getting your mother’ card.” He said.
You chuckled, cupping his face in your hands. “Aww, baby. It’s okay. I have the same trouble when you’re not here either. We’re better as a team anyway.” You said.
Gorou’s tail swished behind him as he smiled placing his hands on yours that cupped his face. “Yes, we are. That’s true but, I’m the man of the house, I should be able to care for the children when you’re gone.” Gorou said.
“Like I told you before even before we had our first kid. We’re a team, Gorou.” You said.
Gorou sighed at his stubbornness. “Right! We’re a team…” He said.
“I love you, Gorou.” You said.
His tail wagged. “I love you too.” He said as he pulled you into a sweet kiss.
“Hi, Mommy!” You and Gorou pulled away seeing your youngest daughter, D/n.
“Hello, my dear. Where are your brothers?” You asked her.
“In the living room. Why?” She asked tilting her head to the side.
“I have something to tell you all including your father. Wait for us there, okay?” You said.
“Okay!” D/n chirped happily as she skipped back to the living room.
“Come on, let’s keep them waiting.” You said to your husband, grabbing his hand.
Looking down at your hands intertwined, he saw both yours and his wedding rings. He smiled and looked back up to you. Oh yeah, he’s definitely one luck dog.

“Wait! We’re having another one!”
“Yep!”
Okay. Maybe he’s bit too lucky…

it had been about a year since your move to the nation of justice, and it had been nothing short of excitement and entertainment. you met a blonde traveller and his glutinous pixie through lyney, after the two of them had their name cleared. you found them to be quite good company, despite the floating fairy’s consistent whining.
freminet didn’t talk to you for awhile after his and his family’s identity had been exposed to fontaine, and you couldn’t blame him. you had deep rooted issues with the fatui, even if freminet didn’t know it at the time, however what he underestimated was how much you valued him over his background.
it took some pushing (forced interaction) and a lot of tears, but freminet eventually broke down into your arms. you could only hold his head against your form, sheltering him away from the rest of the world as he cried in your living room.
the two of you were the dubbed ‘the second duo of fontaine’ with lyney & lynette holding the original title. the two of you were inseparable after the fatui incident, and him going into the fortress of meropiede was pure TORTURE as he forbid you from following him. (after finding out he almost drowned you had to be practically dragged away from the gates, the twins fearful of what you might do to wriothesley.)
you had officially met the knave whilst outside the palais mermonia, a ‘wrong place wrong time’ kinda situation. you had strolled by after she had finished talking with aether, and formally introduced herself as ‘father’ to you. almost pissing yourself, you converse for awhile before she takes her leave. you’ve never been so uncomfortable in your life.
you just interacted with a fatui harbinger.
needless to say, you’ve had quite the adventure since your arrival in fontaine, and as news spread of the flood around teyvat like wildfire, it caught the attention of two certain brothers.
“have you heard about the flooding in fontaine?” the drunkards would gossip among themselves, and diluc could only hold his breath in worry. kaeya had left months ago in search of you, and he could only sit back and wait for the good news.
it was decided between the two that you’d most likely talk to kaeya before diluc, so he was the one to go on the hunt whilst diluc held the fort down in mondstadt, lying to the costumers that the captain was on “knightly duties in sumeru.”
kaeya was in a constant state of alert, searching nation after nation for your whereabouts. he tried liyue and inazuma, however both had turned over fuitless.
he had multiple run-ins with aether and paimon throughout his journey, and had to come up with lie after lie to explain why he wasn’t in mondstadt. if it got out that they were looking for you, word might spread, and you might end up hiding from him. it was better nobody but the two brothers and jean knew what they were really up to.
eventually, the arrival of lantern rite had come, and as the captain happened to be restocking in said nation at the time, he concluded that if you were nearby, he might just be able to see you.
and attending lantern rite you were.
the family of three had invited you to join them on their trip to liyue for the lantern rite, and you had graciously accepted.
you had changed over the year you had been in fontaine. your outfit had gone from a traditional mondstadt look, to something more fontainian. you learnt the art of the sword, thanks to lynette teaching you personally. your grumpiness had somewhat faded, and you were no longer as easily irritated. you were more level headed and calm, adapting lynette’s mannerisms somewhat.
fact is, you had become almost a new man. you were happier, brighter and stronger. you could now defend yourself, and had the protection of three fatui members wherever you went. you had the spina di rosula AND the former archon in your corner (knowing what it feels like to lose everything, you made it your goal to become furina’s first real friend), and you even had the infamous traveller in your favour.
life was finally starting to look better for you, and so, you decided to take the risk and venture out once more, this time, with your family by your side.
and so, off to liyue you went.
you travelled around for awhile, stopping by qiaoying village and picking up some snacks. along the way, you end up running into the traveller, as well as a new face. the boy with them is young and jumpy, as well as overwhelmingly extroverted. in a way, he almost reminds you of your frosted companion. not in personality at ALL, but in spirit, almost.
you all introduce youtselves, and lyney puts an emphasis on the fact you’re their “fourth” member of the family (unbeknownst to you and freminet, lyney and lynette’s plan to get the both of you together was already set in motion.)
freminet holds your hand the entire way back to liyue harbour, uncomfortably shifting as gaming attempted to conversate with him. noticing his hesitation, the pyro user leaves your friend to be and ends up becoming besties with lyney along the way. after making it to the harbour, you privately apologise for freminet, explaining how he’s quite shy but not at all uncomfortable with the wushou dancer, to which he was greatful for. poor gaming was under the impression freminet disliked him. :(
you walked around the harbour with the fatui trio, grasping freminet’s dainty hands in your own. you admired the lanterns that danced in the sky, almost as if they were stars.
“are you sure you don’t wanna cover up (Y/N)? what if we run into one of your brothers?” freminet asks. the three knew of your situation. after they had explained to you in detail why they were apart of the fatui, you revealed your own background. about your father, your brothers and even about your almost-death encounter. out of respect for the anemo archons anonymity , you left out the part where he saved you. instead, you said a humble bard had found you, and took you home.
“even if we do run into either of them, we’ll take good care of you (Y/N). you don’t have to worry about them.” lynette pats your shoulder comfortingly. you had made peace with what had happened to you back mondstadt, but you were unsure if you were ready to face them again. they were your first family, but if you had to choose right now which family you’d want to spend the rest of your days with…
you’d take your fontainian family in a heartbeat.
“(Y/N) will be fine with us by his side! wont you, (Y/N)?” lyney reassures excitedly, stuffing his face with the liyuen cuisine that you had oh-so-generously paid for.
“i’ll be alright, i doubt they’d come anyways. diluc is too busy with the bar and kaeya probably doesn’t give enough of a shit to bother.” you reply, ending the conversation.
as the night continued, the lanterns above continued to float around, yet never quite leave the harbour. it’s almost as if as much as they attempted to, they couldn’t detach themselves from their origins.
the days went on, and you enjoyed your well-spent time in the region of geo. you met some friendly faces, such as a horned-adeptus, the conqueror of demons, a stubborn old bird refined older adeptus, a young cook whom lynette got along quite well with and many more. you are various different foods, wore traditional liyuen hanfu’s, and even got to help the traveller in his quest to help restore the bond between gaming and his father.
the second last night of your stay in liyue began, and you’re greatful you decided to stay as long as you did. that might, you got to witness the most beautiful dance you’d ever seen.
gaming was almost one with the lanterns, and he was glowing. you were so invested in the dancing, you didn’t notice how you took freminet’s hand in your own. your companion, on the other hand, could only watch your eyes.
they gleamed with excitement, and freminet wanted nothing more then to share that joy with you.
you knew you loved freminet from the moment he broke down into your arms. you knew as you cradled his puffy cheeks in your hands, almost kissing away his gentle tears.
you knew you loved freminet as he fixed your diving gear, triple checking to make sure it was on before he took you diving with him.
freminet knew he was in love with you when you told him that you look past his line of work. and how you know that he isn’t a bad person.
freminet knew he was in love with you as you took his side in an instant when some fontainian’s were harassing him after the word had spread.
“(Y/N), can i talk to you once the dance is over?” freminet doesn’t fail to notice you snap out of your trace to fully engage yourself in what he had to say.
it was almost as if you stopped the world just for him.
the dance ended, and you took the cryo users hand in your own as you took him somewhere more secluded. you didn’t fail to see the both of the twins shooing away anybody in your vicinity to give you both some privacy.
you knew this was your chance, the chance lyney and lynette had given you.
“(Y/N), i wanted to talk to you about something.” the boy before you stutters. it’s been awhile since he’s stuttered around you. he knocked that habit with you only a few month into your friendship, however none of this phased you. you knew what he was going to tell you.
“(Y/N) I-” freminet is cut off by a gentle hand to his mouth. your face contortd into an almost annoyed yet concerned look, seemingly displeased at the interruption of freminet’s confession. confused, freminet looks in front of you, too distracted by the beating of his heart to notice what you’re staring at.
then, he then hears it.
footsteps.
“(Y/N)?”
“k-kaeya..?”
the pure look of terror struck across your face had freminet switch up almost completely. he straightens up, before he steps in front of you in an almost protective manner. he was ready for combat.
then you notice it, three more pairs of feet come charging in behind you. in a flash, freminet’s claymore in drawn, and his gaze flickers both behind you and in front. you see the twins chasing another figure, one you can’t quite make out.
and then, as if the situation couldn’t get much worse then it already was, you see a shade of red emerge from the black mystery man.
it’s almost like a scene from a movie. in front of you, you have your almost-lover threatening your (former?) brother with his claymore.
on the other hand , you had your own flesh and blood behind you, with the twins behind him, a look of apology spilling across their face.
“i’m so sorry (Y/N), we let your name slip when talking about the two of you, and we didn’t even think that these two would be listening in on us-” lynette begins, before she’s cut off by diluc.
“listening IN? you fatui SCUM have been in the steam bird left and right with your scandals! i was only making sure you wernt about to hollow up the harbour.”
“excuse you?? you have NO RIGHT to call US scum when you barge in on a PRIVATE moment”
“lyney, now is REALLY not the time for this.”
“i’ll do whatever the fuck i want if it involves MY brother.”
“YOUR brother!?”
“ENOUGH!”
you finally decide to step in. “diluc, kaeya, what the fuck are you two doing here??” you begin.
“me and our dear diluc decided to take a bit of break, and when we heard these two looney magicians mention your name, we had to know if it really was you.” kaeya’s statement is almost humeruous, but the tone in his voice is enough to tell he isn’t fucking around.
“so what if it IS me? why the fuck would you care? you two bastards haven’t seen me in a year.”
“because, (Y/N). you’re OUR family, and we’re here to take you home.”
“the FUCK did you just say?? YOUR brother?? last time i checked, lynette and i are (Y/N)’s family after you practically NEGLECTED him!” lyney spits out.
by now, the two brothers are on one side, and the fontaine twins are on your other side. only freminet, who’s grip on his claymore hasn’t faltered, stuck next to you.
“i doubt you fuckhead fatui members want anything from my brother then to extort him. you don’t give a shit about him!” diluc reprimands.
“if (Y/N) wanted anything to do with you then he would’ve left fontaine ages ago.” lynette spits out, glaring at the two brothers.
you’re about to step in again, before freminet finally decides to speak up.
“(Y/N) may have grown up with the two of you, but at the end of the day, the both of you ended up hurting him without apologising. we know everything about what happened to the three of you, and on behalf of the fatui, we apologise for the loss of your father. loosing family is hard, and us raised in the house of the hearth would know that more then anybody.”
“but when (Y/N) accepted us for who we truly are, he became apart of our family. he chose to stay with us, and to support us from anybody who had something to say. it’s not just us either, (Y/N) has many friends and companions in fontaine, whom cherish him deeply. that is a fact, and it doesn’t matter what you think.”
all of you stand and listen to what freminet says. throughout the speech, he grabs your hand once more, just like when he did during the wushou dance.
and you fall in love with him all over again.
“he talks to us about you two a lot, and it’s clear to anybody that despite all that you’ve done, (Y/N) still cherishes you two very much, but he’s not ready yet. if you truly care about your brother, perhaps.. you’ll wait?” he questions, awaiting the brothers responses.
it’s quiet for a bit, with yours and freminet’s hands still intertwined. lyney comes to stand next to freminet, and lynette comes to caress your shoulder.
diluc’s heart aches. he wants nothing more then to hold you in his arms once more, like he used to when you cried as a child. he had been so worried about you, that he had completely forgotten what you looked like smiling. diluc knew he was being too harsh, but seeing you being cradled by the very organisation he despises made him want to sob.
but now, you stand before him, a happier and brighter man. your eyebags have cleared up, and your smile now reaches your eyes. he also can’t help but notice the almost romantic tension between you and the diver.
kaeya feels proud. he’s had a lot less to say then his brother, but deep down he knows that you’re happy. kaeya never truly intended to take you home like diluc had wanted. don’t get him wrong, kaeya also wanted nothing more then to have you in mond city once more, however his only intentions were to make sure you were safe. that would be enough.
as the silence comes to an end, diluc speaks gently.
“(Y/N), when you’re ready to come back to the mansion, we’re only a door away.”
he then takes kaeyas shoulder, before heading back to where they had come from. kaeya gives you a gentle nod and a smile, before he followed your crimson brother.
and then, as they disappeared from view, you fell to your knees. years of sorrow awoken within my you, and you felt yourself crumble before the three.
in an instant, they were by your side. all weapons had been put away, and only comforting arms awaited.
you feel yourself nuzzle into freminet’s shoulder, him arms wrapped around your body. lyney and lynette held your shoulders as you sobbed.
everything freminet had said was true. you did want to forgive them, but you weren’t ready.
you knew you had more healing to do before you could officially reconcile with the two, however in your heart, you knew it was possible.
you all eventually went back to the hotel you had been residing at. it was quaint and peaceful, and it’s soothing atmosphere helped your pounding headache.
as the four of you readied yourself for bed, a knock at the door surprised you all.
lyney, being the oldest, took it upon himself to open up in case of a possible intrusion, however only a bard dressed in green garments and a lyre in hand stood before him.
“hey (Y/N)! wanna have a chat?”
Tumblr media
did i still leave on a bit of a cliff hanger? maybe. but i was gonna leave it at the kaeya-(Y/N) part so be greatful 😔

Profits!!!
Paimon:We got a fresh batch of potions ready!
Aether:*writing* Put them front and center!
Jean: *walks up* Ummmm
Aether:Hmm? Oh hi! I was wondering if I’d see you.
Jean:Hello. Hard at work I see. *looks around* By a lot…. I just got a report back from Lisa. I knew things were in good hands but can you explain how this gateway into common alchemy is profiting five times its worth? Every time you come to town our budget increases.
Aether:Yeah I think I finally got a formula for success here! It’s all about where we send them. *shows paper* Sales to Mondstadt get the standard cost that breaks even considering how close clients are and the frequency.
Jean:We are selling them .25% under their actual value in Inazuma?
Aether:Inazuma’s are hesitant about trying things out of traditional practices plus the long trip there may reduce potency. However, we don’t really take a loss because I have them delivered by a reliable courier who gives us discount, as well as have them get shipped by a friend named Itto. He’s actually pretty used to the back and forth.
Jean:If that’s the logic, how are we getting away with selling the potions 1.5 times their price in Liyue? They also care about traditions.
Aether:Because Ningguang agreed to endorse us, and Beidou deliverers the shipments. Those are the only seals of approval we need.
Jean:*looks at Lisa*
Lisa:I didn’t tell him to expand. Our cutie has such an eye for business that even Master Diluc went in on a joint business venture.
Jean:*skims paper* We mark up the Sumeru prices by 2.5 times their actual value!?
Aether:I know that might look evil buuuuut *flips page* 80% of the stock that goes there by a merchant named Dori who’s incredibly rich. I’m positive she’s buying them to sell for at least triple their original worth. In the grand scheme we’re getting a bigger net gain than she is on paper but she’s also winning by knowing who and where to sell to. Also desert shipments are handled by a very trustworthy Mercenary.
Jean:And as for Fontaine being double the market price?
Aether:Mondstadt’s potions are approved by Furina de Fontaine. Not only does that attract the high society over there to buy, but it covers the for transport via Gaming as well as the transfer support from the Spina. Don’t worry, I made sure everything is perfectly legal.
Jean:(This is the market project all over again.) Aether, you didn’t have to start an empire, like…at all.
Aerther:I didn’t mean to do it. I just know people.
Paimon: *holds mora bags* Powerful people!
Jean:Well, I leave it all to you then. To think I’m able to redo our budget so freely is like a fever dream. Perhaps the extra funds can go into better training equipment and armor overhaul?
Kaeya:Or we can buy more horses. Just a thought.
Lisa:Do you miss your work that much?
Kaeya:I miss the title speaking for itself.

“A mosaic.”
That was your answer to a question Paimon and the Traveler asks while you were meandering around the Favonius Library looking for a book you needed for some personal research. They had run into you there and a conversation about what some citizens of the City of Freedom embody had sprung up somehow. For example, Paimon was very set on saying that Master Diluc was a rock- set in his ways and tough to budge- and so on from there.  The ideas and objects tossed around were anywhere between insightful and downright silly.
So, it was inevitable that eventually the trio would cycle around to the Knights. Jean was dubbed a Dandelion according to the Traveler and Lisa was crowned as an elegant bookmark that was so sharp it would cause terrible papercuts. Of course, Lisa’s object was picked ever so gracefully by Paimon even if it didn’t make much sense she was set on her answer, and nothing would change her mind. Then, when the personification of one Kaeya Alberich came around, admittingly the two Outlanders were stumped.
Kaeya would always peruse around with such an air of mystery. Keeping important aspects of himself tucked so far away that very few people knew of his secrets- and they were tight lipped for their own reasons.  His smooth tongue aided him greatly whenever someone would ask about himself personally- spinning tales and weaving verses that got him out of any sort of personal interrogation.
The trio knew if they asked Diluc, he’d give a short and possibly crude answer.  Jean would probably give him some illusion of not being sorted into such games and Lisa would just think you three were adorable and not give her two cents at all. You, however, thought on it for a bit longer and finally had an answer.
“A mosaic?” Paimon mimicked, making sure her voice was kept down in the sanctuary of books. “Like the artwork?”
“He is good looking,” Traveler pitched and it was true. Even people with aged or poor working eyes could see Kaeya was far from being an ugly man.
“I don't see how him being a little ‘good looking’ is deserving of the title of being a piece art!” You chuckle at Paimon’s small fit of confusion.
“Well, ignoring his looks, a mosaic is a piece of work that is made of small pieces right? It isn’t whole until it’s all put together. Just like a puzzle.”
“So, he’s a glorified puzzle?”
“That isn’t what I meant,” you shake your head in a small chuckle. You take a small trip to another corner of the library and run your fingers along the spines of different books before you grab one and easily slide it out of its spot on the shelf.
It’s a book on different types of art. Flipping the pages you find a page with a drawn on copy of a mosaic from another country. You lay it down on a nearby table and tap the drawing with your fingertip.
“What I meant was the process of becoming a mosaic- how it’s created.” you trace the empty spaces of white on the page where the piece of the drawn on piece were supposed to connect to create a bigger piece. “Various pieces of work all put together to make one big picture. A series of events leading to a grand conclusion of hardwork and patience. Maybe it took a lot of time and work. Sometimes creating such a piece was so frustrating at times you wanted to give up, or maybe sometimes nothing looked right. But, by the end of it all- it couldn’t be anything but a wonderful representation of all those struggles.”
Paimon floated in awe at your explanation and the Travelers playfully placed their hands on their hips as they looked at you.
“You sure think highly of Kaeya, don’t you?”
“It’s that noticeable, huh?” You chuckle a tad embarrassed. Your long-standing puppy-crush on Kaeya you’ve had since you met him wasn’t always the best hidden secret. In fact, you were almost positive that the Cavalry Captain himself knew you had a thing for him, but you were happy he never cornered you about it.
“You’re a love-struck citizen alright,” Paimon rushed to the Traveler’s side in making slight jests at you. You shut the book you had used to try and explain your choice of object and rubbed the back of your neck as you ignore the warmth in your face.
“Yeah, yeah, I get it.” You turn on your heel and walk back to the shelf to replace the book. Paimon had cupped a small hand around her chin before she was floating over to your side and asking you another question.
“So, if Kaeya is a mosaic, then who’s his artist?” You look at her and blink a few times, processing what she was asking. You didn’t expect a question like that.  You cup your own chin in thought and after a moment, you laugh at being caught off guard.
“I hadn’t thought of that.  I guess maybe Mondstadt itself? It is where all his friends and family are after all. Oh, and his job of course.”
“That makes sense,” Paimon muses, seemingly satisfied with your answer. The conversation had moved from the shelves to the open space of the library and soon out the doors. As the three of you left, the topic of objects to people shifted to one of getting some food into Paimon’s ever empty stomach.
The book you had previously replaced back on the shelf was easily slid back out by a hand adorning open finger gloves. Taking a relaxed seat at a nearby table, he flipped to the very page you had been on before and looked at the image himself with a small huff that twisted into a quirk of his lips.
“How interesting,” he muses before reading the whole installment about that specific piece of art. After all, how could he not?

The next morning was quick to roll around. After a hearty meal at the Good Hunter and pleasant good nights exchanged with the Traveler and Paimon, you were more than ready to head back home to rest. After a swift debrief on the commissions set aside for you today, you move out of the way and off to the side so you could flip through the four pages of individual commission information.
A typical site clearing of hilicurls, a balloon transport, and two other sites said to be infested with abyss mages and mitacurls. Taking a deep breath and letting it out in the form of a heavy sigh, you roll your neck and shoulders. It looked to be a very physical day, considering the commissions alone were already enough, they were hardly close in range to each other.
“My, what does this sunny morning lack that is making your shoulder’s slack so much,” the familiar voice of the ever lingering person on your mind spoke. Lowering your commissions and offering him a greeting smile, you watch as Kaeya marches his way down the stone steps of Mondstadt to you.
“The weather has nothing to do with it, I'll have you know.” When he finally gets to your sides, he silently offers his hand out for your daily commission sheets. You hand them over and resume your small effort of stretching. His eyes quickly scan sheet after sheet before he’s clicking his teeth and shaking his head.
“Having your run all the way to Stormbearer, to Windrise, down to Springvale and then back up to Wolvendom is just cruel.” The way his voice has that familiar lithe to it, you knew he only half meant what he said.
“Maybe I’ll get lucky and run into the Traveler who can do me a favor by hitching me a ride on a Waypoint.” You quickly take your commissions back and fold them down twice before storing them away in your pack. Watching the sun’s orange morning hue fade into its daylight yellow was tell enough that you had to get moving or else you’d be rushing to get your work done. Kaeya walked you to the city gate and even across the bridge before you were ready to set off.
This is practically routine. You weren’t sure when it started, but at some point, Kaeya had started meeting you at the Adventurer’s Guild after receiving your daily commissions and would insist on escorting you out of the city. He claimed it was on the way of his morning walk to stretch his legs, but you weren’t sure how much you believed him. You allowed him to do it anyway since it always set up a good start to your day.
Getting a small amount of Kaeya’s time was something you would relish since you never wanted to impede on his busy schedule with the Knights. It was the small selfish part of you that wanted to capitalize on this so-called ‘alone’ time that lasted only a small piece of the day.
“Be careful,” Kaeya always tell you and you always nod back to him a simple ‘I will’ before he would watch you disappear down the worn, dirt paths. Your first destination would be Stormbearer Mountain it appears.
Most of Kaeya’s morning consisted of going over documents shoved on him courtesy of his position as one of the ten Captains within the knight’s ranks.  With sighs echoing in his private workspace every few minutes and multiple tempting ideas of sneaking out without even processing the paperwork, he finally finished and approved the last document before placing it in a file on his desk that Jean would surely come and snag from him later.
Leaning back in his chair that would soon need the cushions replaced, he craned his neck to gaze out the tall window in his office.  The sun was much higher in the sky than it was when he had arrived earlier that morning.  His thoughts easily drifted to you and a frown found its way onto his lips.
“Are you doing alright?” Kaeya delicately asked to the air of solitude around him.  You were more than capable to handle yourself.  In truth, if you weren’t already associated with the Guild and kept so busy by them, Jean probably would’ve scouted you for the Knights instead.  ‘Your skills are impressive, and the others could learn a lot from you’, that’s probably what Jean’s pitch would be. All true of course, sometimes the job of trying to train the lower ranking knights was more of a chore than a duty, once Kaeya would often get stuck with.
He'd be more than happy to spar with you instead any day.
Steering his gaze away from the window and moving it towards the ceiling, he traced the wooden beams above him with his single visible eye. He sighed again- this time not because of his now finished paperwork.
“Surely, they’d be in Windrise by now… right?” His fingers drummed against the arm of his chair before he was bringing his chin back down to lock onto his office door.  His paperwork was done, so maybe…
Two knocks rapped against the thick door and Kaeya’s posture straightened out of habit. A muffled ‘Captain?’ heard behind it.  He let his head sink as a small, defeated breath left his open mouth before correcting himself again.
“You can come in,” he answered.  Guess his plans to sneak away were once again foiled.
By the time Kaeya made it out of HQ it was already late into the afternoon.  Stretching after stepping foot out of the large entrance, he stepped down the short set of stone steps before making his way towards the front of the city.  You must be back now, or close to the city at the very least.  It had been almost the whole day, if you weren’t back yet he’d simply go on an unprompted adventure to ‘bump into you’. Luckily, there you were; standing in front of the Guild and talking to Katheryne once again. Although, the look of you was less than encouraging.
While you yourself seemed more or less fine, just from the distance between the top set of steps by Good Hunter to you at the Adventurer's Guild Reception, he could tell your commissions had worn you out today. It was no wonder considering the distance between them. Your clothes had clearly been fixed prior to you reentering the city since the dirt and stains on them were a clear indicator that you had your fair share of roughing up.
Kaeya can, and did mostly, dismiss this all, however.  It was the serious look on Katheryne’s face and the way yours didn't show relief after a hard day's work like it normally would be. He started making his way towards you and started catching bits of the conversion you both were having.
“I deeply apologize, y/n, but it’s an Emergency Commission we just received.” The way Katheryne’s voice was coated in tension made Kaeya’s pace harden. When he had arrived at your side, his hand came up to rest on your back without his notice as he looked at the way you held your head in your hand like you were preventing an oncoming headache.
“What’s the problem?” Kaeya made it a point to look at you- directing the question at you and not Katheryne. Your hand dropped and you sighed with a shake of your head before looking at him.
“It’s nothing, just a last-minute Commission.”
“What? You just got back from your commissions, didn’t you?”
“It’s an Emergency. I can’t just brush it off.”
“Make someone else take it then.”
“No one else is available.”
“y/n.”
“Kaeya.”
The small verbal battle you both engaged in was empty and Kaeya knew he was playing a losing game. He let out a sigh before he finally turned to look at Katheryne who must have all the patience in the world for standing by and letting you both bicker until she was needed for something.
“What is the commission exactly?”
“Apparently, a Ruin Guard has been spotted near Springvale after a passing Adventurer accidentally triggered its detection sensors. The nearby residents are frightened it could march into someone’s territory and wreak havoc there.”
Kaeya pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand- the other still mindlessly resting on your back- as he sighed.  This is indeed something that couldn’t be pushed off for someone else to take. When it comes to those old machines, who knows what could happen if they aren’t swiftly deactivated. The Captain was at an impasse; letting you go after already being exhausted from running around all day or tying you to one of the Guild’s posts and keeping you there until someone else passed by that Katheryne could snag instead.
“Fine,” Kaeya relented.  His hand finally dropped from your back and crossed with his other arm over his chest. “I shall accompany you then.” He saw you open your mouth- probably to protest- but he didn’t let you. “Ah-ah,” he tutted at you, “no arguments. Let’s get moving.” He uncrosses his arms to grab your shoulders, spin you around and lightly push you to get your legs moving.
Luckily, Kaeya’s vision was extra compatible with your own. While your fight styles were different, the fact you had a hydro vision was very much a blessing. It was quiet easy work taking down a Ruin Guard that had been drenched in water then subsequently frozen. After picking up a few dropped items from the timeless machine, Kaeya had stood up and placed his hands on his hips as if proud of himself.
“Aren’t you happy I decided to tag along now? We made quick work of that Ruin Guard.”
You can only roll your eyes at the smoothtalker.  Still, you quietly laugh at his antics all the same. Finally calling it a day in the middle of the field you had previously battled in with him, you lay down on the grass.  You were already covered in sweat, dirt and other stains from your earlier commissions, so getting a little more on your clothes wasn’t a concern. You shut your eyes and took in the breeze you silently thanked Lord Barbatos for as you took in a deep breath, letting yourself decompress.
Kaeya stood over you, moving so his boots were on either side of your head and he was looking down at your relaxing face.  With your eyes closed, you didn’t get to see the smile that was only ever present when you weren’t looking.  The moment your eyes would open, you would only see his normal everyday grin. And open your eye did and oh how lovely they were. The evening glow did wonders for their color.
Evening. Yes, it is getting rather late now.
“Are you ready to head back now?” He asked and you nod. Sitting up, Kaeya offers to carry you back to the city on his back- which you decline. That didn’t stop the fact that you reentered Mondstadt securely resting on Kaeya’s back as he held you up with a slight bend to his posture and firm grip on your legs.
Tumblr media
This routine would continue for as long as Kaeya’s luck would allow.  He’d be the first to see you in the mornings before being the one to walk you out of the city and if he was lucky, he’d be the first to greet you back (not including Katheryn).
If Kaeya was lucky he would greet you back into the city and spend more time at your side.  Reporting in with you to the Guild. Running a few errands like stopping by to purchase things from Blanche or getting your polearm enhanced or repaired at the smith.
If Kaeya was lucky, he would persuade you into getting dinner with him or dropping by the Cat’s Tail for some casual TCG matches when he was off duty.
If Kaeya was lucky, the conversation between you both would be flowing well enough that even if there was nothing left to do, he’d be privileged enough to walk you home or come inside to continue occupying your time until you fall asleep or push him out the door saying that he had to get up for work in the morning.
Today was not Kaeya’s lucky day.  When he got up this morning, his routine to finding you was practically ingrained in his muscles and when he didn’t see you at the stone steps, city gates or the Guild’s reception, confusion crossed his brows.  He casually took a seat on one of the nearby outside stools by the Cat’s Tail and waited until the time to clock in at HQ was growing closer.  With hesitation, he got up and looked around for you once more just to see if maybe he could at least catch a glimpse of you rushing around to get a (rather late) start to the day.
He was antsy all day and he was astonished to find out that throwing a wrench in his morning threw off his day so much. Kaeya knew that seeing you first thing in the morning was quite a lovely way to start his day, but he didn’t know the extent in which it could affect the rest of it.  Not exchanging a good morning with you or even saying his usual ‘be safe’ message at the edge of Mondstadt nagged at him.
Currently, he was sitting in a remote corner of the Favonious library, legs crossed as his rear was sat towards the front of the seat to make up for the fact his back was bent over the back of it.  He rests a flimsy, paperback book over his face, the pages scent of old paper and ink invaded his nose and the feeling of them rubbed against his cheeks. One of his hands held it open with his thumb and pinky and the other arm was hanging uselessly at his side, his wrist bouncing against his vision from time to time just for something to interact with.
Underneath the book, his eye was closed.  He had tried reading the passages in this particular book at least four times now, but the words just weren’t registering in his mind, so he had given up. He was left listless; certain he could easily fall asleep in this very position at any given time. Of course, it wasn’t often that Captain Kaeya would get much quiet time to himself anyways.
“Uh, what are you doing?” The voice of Paimon made Kaeya’s eye open under the book before he was pulling it down his face enough to only reveal that one eye.  Seeing Paimon floating at the Traveler’s side made him slip the book off his face completely and shut it before setting it on the table in front of him. His posture was corrected as he sat up straighter and rolled his neck.
“Couldn't you tell? I was reading.”
“Paimon think’s you were slacking off.”
“Is that what it looked like?” He jokes as he pushes his chair back and stands up properly before placing one of his hands on his hips. “I would never be caught slacking off, you wound me.”
“We’ve heard that before,” Paimon sighs with a shake of her head.  In the moment, Kaeya is reminded of the conversation he overheard before between you and the other two. The same time of day, the same location, the same two participants of that conversation.
“Say,” he says to gain both of their attention, “what do you think it is?” Kaeya’s exceptionally broad and unprecedented question left the two Outlanders confused. The way the Captain could almost see materialized question marks float around their heads was comical before he elaborated. “I’m asking about my artist, of course. Surely you must have your own idea, no?”
Both Traveler and Paimon’s mouth opened in shock.
“You were listening?!” Paimon shrieks before she is shushed by other people in the library for her volume.
“It’s rude to eavesdrop, Kaeya,” Traveler tells him as they cross their arms over their chest.  Kaeya fakes a gasp before shaking his head and shrugging with his arms up.
“Eavesdropping? Why, I’d never.” He dropped his arms back to his sides. “I was simply in the area and didn’t want to interrupt such a compelling conversation topic. That would’ve been quite rude of me, wouldn’t you agree?” The looks he received were easily brushed off. “Anyway, you didn’t answer my question.”
“Well,” Paimon started, “didn’t y/n say it would be Mondstadt?”
“And? Do you agree with them?”
“Paimon doesn’t see a reason why not,” she shrugs in the air.
“I see,” Kaeya’s arm crosses over his chest before he’s resting his opposite elbow on it to cup his chin. His gaze shifts downward before he's blinking slowly, meaningfully. “I suppose I could give you half marks.”
“Half marks?!” Paimon whispers.
“What about ‘the people of Mondstadt?’” The Traveler interjects.  Kaeya’s eye shoots back to them and his hand drops from his chin to resume a casual stance.
“That assumption is largely correct as well.” The smile he gives the two gives nothing away. It wasn’t clear if he was sincere about what he said or if he was just saying it to hear himself talk. “A mosaic is usually a large piece, yes? It would make sense for there to be multiple people taking part in such a project at some point I suppose.”
“You suppose? You’re just running us in circles here!”
“I don’t know what you mean,” Kaeya deflects with a lighthearted tone and short laugh.
“Fine! We get it!” Paimon huffs before the conversation devolves into little to nothing until he is parting ways with the two, leaving the library and ready to end the day that seemed to have lasted longer than usual. Despite having a rather lax day, he felt lethargic.
Yet, despite his lethargy, when he finally made it out of his day clothes and into his bed, all he could do was lay on top of his covers and stare at the ceiling. His eyepatch had been removed- just as always when he was in the confines of his home- and his long bangs covered the eye that was always so accustomed to the darkness.  One of his legs was propped up on the mattress with the other stretched out and his arms were folded behind his head.
His mind was curious about a number of things all the time- so his racing thoughts weren’t unknown to him. Still, the nagging feeling in the back of his mind didn’t let up. Was not seeing you at all really that much of a clog in his daily life? It made him feel so off-set and that alone was enough to plant a seed of anxiety in his chest.
Kaeya sighs to himself and his ceiling before rolling to his side and letting his bangs slip across his face and reveal his always concealed eye between the blue strands. He closes his eyes and wills his mind to stop dwelling on menial things.
Heart and mind are difficult things to cooperate with one another though.
Kaeya Alberich couldn’t risk getting mixed up in too many personal things- it made his future even more murky and daunting than it already was.
Tumblr media
After that one day of missing seeing you out before your commission, Kaeya tried to do it less on purpose. Maybe that was a message from the gods themselves that he needed to take a step back. If your very presence could affect his day to day life like it had, he needed to back off for his sake and yours. And while he didn’t see you off, he still would welcome you back any chance he saw you return to the city with a raised hand he would immediately tuck away again.
“I didn’t do anything to make you upset, did I?” Of course, you had noticed his sudden shift in nature.
“Of course not,” he tells you as sincerely as he could. His smile was strained on his lips and his nose felt like twitching from the sheer effort it took just to pull them up. From the unamused look you gave him at his answer, he knew you knew he wasn’t being completely truthful. Still, you just looked away from him and sighed. Kaeya was grateful you didn’t push the issue because a part of him was sure if you had, he would’ve spilled his guts about things he wasn’t sure of himself just yet.
The process of slowly taking steps away from you wasn’t pleasant for either party. Kaeya’s days had devolved into nothing but more boring paperwork and patrols he could do with his eye closed, and that would mean seeing nothing at all. The dull lag of the daytime was boring to him with nothing to do between his job and downtime he suddenly had. The Angels Share's atmosphere was a welcome comfort to his new, unpleasant routine- though, he could do without the looks from Diluc.
Meanwhile, you had felt the sting of dejection in your chest. You had come to the assumption that maybe Kaeya had finally taken action on your unspoken feelings for him and was politely telling you to take a hike. It was logical to you; a common everyday Adventurer probably couldn’t make it work out with one of the Knights’ Captains. His previous time spent with you was probably just a hindrance, a distraction from his real work, so this was good. He could focus on what was important, protecting Mondstadt.
Though, that mental pep talk didn’t make it hurt any less.
Just like Kaeya, you decided to bury yourself in your work. Taking commissions on top of any other field requests. Clearing hilicurl camps wasn’t something difficult and while the occasional Abyss Mage was a pain, it was all manageable. So, when your back to back jobs kept you out of the city for days at a time, that slowly became the norm for the citizens of Mondstadt.
It was only natural for no one to notice.
“Has it really been that long?!” Kaeya had been passing through the central square of Mondstadt when he heard the familiar shrill of Paimon. His interest took little to be piqued and he easily strut his way over. “And no one has tried looking for them yet?” Paimon and the Traveler were stuck in a conversation with Katheryne as is the norm for them nowadays when their travels bring them back to the City of Freedom. “Oohhh,” Paimon worries, “Paimon’s worried.”
“What’s the problem,” Kaeya interjects into the conversation. All eyes shift to him, his easy strides coming to a stop when he fully joins the group with his arms crossing over his chest. “My, what’s with all the long faces?”
“Kaeya!” Paimon screeches. “Oh, maybe you’ll know! Have you seen y/n around?” Kaeya’s chest tightens.
“Y/n? I’m afraid we’ve both been too wrapped up in our own duties recently. Sorry to disappoint.” The slight light of hope Paimon dawned dimmed and worry once again took over her features. The tension in his chest felt tighter, like a white-hot coil was entangling itself around his insides and replacing his ribcage. “Has something happened?” He asks slowly, making quite sure his voice doesn’t crack or waver. All his hard work to distance himself from you can’t unravel now; not when you aren’t even here.
“We aren’t sure,” Katheryne fills in.  All eyes look to her as she repeats what she had just told the duo before Kaeya arrived. “Y/n had taken a rather dangerous commission the other day. It was a job that required them to explore and investigate some ruins that had been discovered behind a wall of rocks on Stormbearer. The commission should’ve well run its course by now, but we haven’t heard back from either the client or y/n, so some of us are beginning to worry.”
Kaeya’s fists clenched, but no one took notice of them under his cross-armed stance. He made sure to keep his face from giving himself away.
“Have you made the issue known to the Acting Grand Master?” He questions. Katheryne shakes her head.
“No, we haven’t. We had had planned on bringing it to her attention if y/n still doesn’t get in touch with us by this evening.”
“We should let Jean know right now!” Paimon insists and the Traveler easily nods in agreement. “What if they’re stuck in the ruins. Or- or hurt or something!” Paimon’s worry bleeds easily into her words like a fresh wound into water.
“The last thing we should do is panic,” Kaeya said hypocritically. His gut felt like a boiling cauldron with panic as the main ingredient. Still, his many years of being persuasive and aloof didn’t let any of that show.
Though, the off hand look the Traveler shot him made him doubt himself; they’ve been awfully diligent when it comes to reading him ever since his wild goose chase he sent them on not long after they arrived in Mondstadt. Or maybe it was just because they had more experience than he initially thought. Still, it almost made him squirm.
“Well, we’re going to go tell Jean!” Paimon declared, her small hands on her hips as she bobbed up and down in the air. Kaeya just shrugs indifferently, surely not making any moves to oppose them. With a small huff, Paimon and the Traveler take off towards the Knights Headquarters. When they were well out of earshot and sight, Kaeya’s cross arms drop and his gaze moves to the ever-open gate that showed the wilds outside of Mondstadt.
“Katheryne,” he almost whispers. “You said Stormbearer?”

Your vision was blurred when you opened your eyes from your, albeit useless, slumber. You had long since tucked yourself between a small alcove of debris and rock in the ruins you had agreed to investigate. Had you known the person who had commissioned this job was some ruin machine-obsessed loon, you wouldn’t had agreed so easily. A couple ruin guards aren’t a big deal, but adding their mechanical brethren- so to speak- on top of a nut job maintaining them the moment you have to step away to recoup, that's when things get tricky.
Your body had long since grown exhausted from using your Vision by excessively trying not to get killed. Luckily, the mad man only had his madness going for him, so hiding from his view was easy. Staying hidden from the machine’s censors was what worried you, but you had succeeded so far. Because of that very fact, however; you were reluctant to move. Beyond your weary body, hunger and thirst were starting to eat away at you too.
Having been in hiding with no ample moment to even try fleeing back to the city for additional aid, you had run through what little rations you had. Your gut ached with hunger pains and your throat had never felt dryer, still you weren’t backed up against the preverbal wall so much you threw all caution to the wind.
Your polearm had remained materialized as you kept it rested against your shoulder for ease of quick use should you require it.  Your vision had never felt heavier from its placement on your person and your hands cramped from how tightly you had gripped your weapon’s staff. You let your head fall back into the rock behind you and let out a silent sigh.
In truth, you felt more foolish than injured or exhausted. You knew this commission sounded… odd, but you took it anyway. Anything to help distract your mind from the ever cloudy presence of Kaeya- or lack thereof.
Your small sliver of respite you found in your cove of rock and debris was beginning to quake and crumble… literally. Your eyes you hadn’t realized had dropped back down shoot open and between the crumbling dust that threatened to get into them, you could hear the engines of machines whirring above you. You scramble to get out into the open before your previously, temporary safety could crush you. Though, coming out meant that you would be more vulnerable than you’d prefer.
The moment your gaze lands on that familiar warm glow of the back of a Ruin Guard, you throw your polearm into its core, coating the blade with water from your Vision without much thought. The guard crackled with electricity as it malfunctioned and was brought to its metallic knees. Sprinting to its back to quickly retrieve your polearm, you made sure to use your Vision to drench its legs and feet just in case it got back up again. Perhaps the moisture would cause it to comically slip and buy you just a bit more time and maybe a chuckle or two.
It was odd though, aside from the now jagged whirring of the jittering machine in front of you- there was nothing else. No crazed man trying to jump you or sick another random machine of his on you for whatever cause. It was in fact quiet, and that quiet put you on edge. Your brain knew you needed to stay on guard, but the silence was starting to lull your body into a false sense of security you couldn’t trust.
Still, your mind that had been in fight mode for what should have been days now, had no chance against your weary body. Your grip on your polearm slips and the weapon clatters to the ground just before your knees did and your body slumped rather pathetically afterwards.
‘If you fall unconscious, you’ll die’,  you mentally scold yourself. Trying to bully yourself into getting back up, keeping your eyes open, keeping your guard up. Still, your mind was beginning to feel as weak as your body. Thoughts swirled together into a mess of intangible words stuck in your mind and your sight was no better.  Perhaps it was your delirium and exhaustion, but your body suddenly grew cold and you vaguely felt goosebumps raise on your skin like winter itself had bloomed in these ruins with you. Among the changes you felt externally, you swore you heard a muffled voice too.
Perhaps it was the mad man, the one who got you suckered into this stupid job. If it was, he could make quick work of you now since the last of your fight had disappeared taking out that Ruin Ruard core. The warmth you felt on your neck and cheek was the final thing you could mentally register before your body succumbed to its burdens.

‘Odd’, was the first thing that crossed your mind when you found yourself staring blankly up at a well maintained ceiling. You were sure that if you woke up again, and not gotten yourself killed or crushed, you’d be waking up to jagged rocks and mossy walls. So, the well furnished room you now occupied threw you for a loop- which your pounding head didn’t exactly take well.
The room you were in was familiar, and you were sure you’ve been here before, but your foggy mind couldn’t process where you were.  The bed you were tucked into was soft and comforting, and with a wince the mattress gave when you push yourself to sit up. You were alone in the room and without much thought, you shuffle your legs out from under the blankets thrown over you to place your feet onto the floor and wobble up to your legs with the help of the bedside table acting as a- albeit less than desirable- crutch.
The door creaking open was almost mistaken by you for the sound of your sore joints straightening out, as humorous as that was to you since you let a brief, lighthearted laugh escape you in a huff. Then, with your sights on the ground, you noticed a shadow casted by light you don't remember being in the room with you before.
You follow the shadow along the hard floor covered with a single, purple rug until your eyes found a pair of all too familiar boots.  Your aching body starts to feel anxious- a small wave of gooseflesh running across your exposed skin at the idea of Kaeya being in your proximity for the first time in a while. Still, regardless of how you hadn’t been able to squash your silly crush on him or properly prepare yourself for a possible rejection without even confessing- you were no coward.
With both hands tense on the bedside table, you raise your head to look at the blue haired man who had removed the fur, half-cape from his shoulder.  It was strange seeing how empty his shoulder was without the extra fluff the fur provided. Still, it was nice to see him in his entirety again since it had been a while. The blacklight of the space behind him made it difficult to see his expression since the lights in the room you had woken up in had been turned off presumably for your ease of comfort.
“It’s been a while,” was the lamest thing that’s come out of your mouth in a while.
Of course it had been, you were both actively avoiding each other and practically the whole of Mondstadt picked up on it. Looking behind his shoulder you could only barely see corners of art pieces on the walls behind him and another rug that ran down the hall behind his heels.  “Kaeya, am I at your house?” You ask, finally realizing where you recognized your surroundings from.
You’d been in his living room plenty of times visiting, but you had hardly been back in his room unless you were the one tasked with dragging him home from Angels Share and were generous enough to lug his body weight back to his bed. It was a rare occurrence since you were normally one to just dump him on the couch with a blanket and glass of water for his possible next morning hangover.
Kaeya never graced you with an answer before he was marching into the room. His bootsteps seem louder than usual on his hardwood floors of his enclosed room, but maybe that was just the headache. His hands shoot out to grab your shoulders and turn you towards him, your hands that had been on the wooden night table were effectively removed from its surface and now Kaeya’s grip was the only crutch you had for balance before your brain could full calibrate standing without swaying again.
“What on Teyvat were you thinking?!” He raised his voice and even in the dimly lit room with only light from the hall flooding in, you could easily see his expressions now. His brow was turned in a frown and his eye clouded with something you couldn’t pinpoint. It was a far cry from his normally suave and dismissive behavior. “Taking an obviously suspicious commission in ruins that hadn’t been officially investigated by the Knights? Seriously, you thought that was smart?!”
His temper only made your headache worse and in turn soured your already not-so-great mood.  Reaching up to grab his arms like a hook for support, you verbally push back.
“I think I'm capable of handling things myself, you know? The Guild doesn’t need the Knights’ to babysit them for every little thing, and as a member of the Guild that applies to me too!”
“Oh yes, so capable you spontaneously disappear for days? Does that sound capable to you?”
“It does actually because I was handling things just fine by myself, not that it makes a difference to you.”
“You collapsed next to a Ruin Guard, y/n! What would you have done if it had restarted or if something else would have happened? Magically wake up and jump into battle again, because I have my doubts about that!”
“What is your problem, Kayea?!”
“You! You are my problem!”
Astonished, you scoff before rolling your eyes.  It had been so long since you hashed it out like this with anyone, let alone Kaeya. It didn’t feel good, it made you feel sick to your stomach. Not hearing any retaliations from you, Kaeya guides you by the shoulders back against the edge of the mattress and pushes you to sit down again. You didn’t let yourself release the sigh of relief that you felt now that the weight of your own limbs was lifted- you wouldn’t give the Captain that satisfaction.
You expected him to let go of you, release your shoulders and march out of the room and maybe slam the door for good measure. Or maybe pace around the room before ordering you good enough to argue, so you would be good enough to get out of his hair. Out of the possibilities, the only thing that you predicted right was him releasing your shoulders.
Kaeya's hands left your shoulders before sliding down your arms and dropping to the mattress edge on either side of you. You were stunned when he dropped to his knees in front of you and the pressure of his forehead resting on your knee felt heavier than anything. Caging you with his arms and using his head as an anchor on your legs he had effectively trapped you. You kept your hands tucked into each other by your stomach, making sure your knuckles wouldn’t brush even a strand of his hair and you could feel the thin strap of his eyepatch leaving an intent on your skin.
“Kaeya,” you sighed heavily, his name leaving your lips like a weight.
“I tried,” his muffled voice sounds weak that your gaze softens at the abrupt tone change. “I did. I tried to fix it, but my problem is still you and I can’t do anything about it.”
“I have no idea what you’re-”
“Tell me what to do.” His words that interrupt yours cause you to furrow in confusion.
“What?”
“Tell me what to do,” he repeats with a strained voice. “I have so many things I need to do, choices but I- I don't want to. So, do it for me.”
“I still don’t know what you’re talking about. What does all that even mean?”
“Make me choose you,” he sighs heavily before the hands of his that were placed on the mattress beside you move to lightly grab at your shirt like he was scared to touch you further. As if you’d push him away, scorn him for his actions and inactions alike. “Because I will. I just- I need someone- you, you need to-” His sentences never finish as his breaths become uneven. The hands that grip your shirt tighten to ball the fabric in his fists now. “I’m sorry.”
Never had you seen Kaeya, the ever debonair Calvary Captain who kept all his secrets stored into his chest, kneel and subsequently crumble like this to anyone- much less to you. Perhaps in the past he never talks about, Diluc had seen him so weak, but that would be where the witness list ends. You lift your hands from your lap and hover them over his hunched body that clung to you like a child; you were unsure if touching him would set him off or if he would recoil from you. Your silence only made his hands that ensnared your shirt tug on the fabric like an anchor keeping a ship from sailing away.
One of your hands reach to his head and your fingertips breach the blue tresses of his hair. His shoulders tensed and you almost snatched your hand away.
“Don’t,” he mumbled into your leg. You weren’t sure if he was saying not to touch him or not to pull away. So, you kept your hand half in his hair and unmoving.
You yelp when the tugging on your shirt flew into a harsh yank. The back of your knees that had previously been resting snug against the edge of the mattress were now well away with the back of your thighs replacing their spot. Closer to sliding right off the bed than comfortably sitting on it, Kaeya’s arms moved to wind around your waist and his face found a new home in your stomach as your arms hovered in the arm like a puppet's dangling from unused strings.
You could feel the weight of his words fall onto your legs by way of the tears leaving his eyes. You could feel it in the way his shoulders shake and the uneven breaths that warms your lap through his mouth.
“Kaeya,” you softly start, “what has gotten into you? I've never seen you act like this before.” You slowly lower your arms and place your palms on his shoulders gently so as to not startle him; you weren’t going to keep them in the air forever, they’re sore.
“I’m from Khaenri’ah, you know?” His voice strains as he lets out a pathetic laugh that’s damp with a web forming in his throat. He feels your hands on his shoulders twitch and his grip around you tightens so you have no chance of running from him.
“Kaeya, what-”
“My father abandoned me here with the intention of using me as a spy. I’ve only ever told Diluc, but when I did a lot happened and he left, abandoning me too. I don’t care about Khaenri’ah- not anymore- Mondstadt is my home. It’s where my friends are, my brother- even if he will never accept that role again. I can’t leave Mondstadt behind.”
“I’m sure Diluc doesn’t hate you, not like you think. He just- he’s set in his stubborn ways and isn’t good at communicating.” You decide to speak only on his mention of Diluc, since the new information of the land in which he supposedly hails was still processing in your mind.
Your previous comparison of Diluc to a rock briefly comes to mind at the mention of his stubbornnes. You nearly laugh at the thought, but now is definitely not the time.
“Please, please, make me choose you. Tell me to, order it of me, I don’t care. Just- don’t make me live without my artist. I can’t risk that again; I can’t take being abandoned again.”
“Artist? Kaeya, what are you talking about?” You felt like you didn’t understand the words coming out of his mouth.
There was a bout of silence after your question and the air felt heavy. You know Kaeya heard you, but he was reluctant to answer. Odd, considering the word vomit he had already coughed up in the last several minutes since he came into the room. Your hands start to move and lightly rub his shoulders over onto his neck, silently trying to coax him into talking more.
“I heard what you said to the Traveler.” You almost roll your eyes because that could be literally anything. Does he know how often you get the chance to actually run into them and Paimon? He is just trying to dodge the question and by habit you lightly swat at his head. A silent, ‘okay smartass’ to keep him going in the right direction. He almost scoffs into your lap for that one. “You called me a mosaic.” Oh. “You told the Traveler that ‘Mondstadt’ is my artist; they said the ‘People of Mondstadt’, but only I know who my artist truly is.” His arms around you twitch and you could almost feel a stitch of pain in your side from how long he's been effectively squeezing you. “My artist is you. It’s just you.”
The room is engulfed in a silence that feels heavy, yet... somehow also relieving. So much time recently had been the both of you dancing around the issues neither of you wanted to confront and all it took was you getting yourself into potentially mortal danger for days on end for the truth to come out. Kaeya knew you were someone important, but he didn’t realize just how heavy your permanent absence would be to him. Just the thought of possibly finding you in those ruins dead made his throat burn and ache like swallowing a ball of thorns.
“Kaeya.”
“I’m not lying,” his voice was strained, filled with fear of being labeled someone worthy of nothing.
“I wasn’t going to say you are,” the hand that had previously tapped his head now rested on his nest of blue hair. The gentle strokes of your palm against his scalp were soothing as he felt your breath move your stomach against his head. “I don't see why you would lie to me right now.”  There was no doubt in your mind that everything that came out of his mouth was the unadulterated truth. You’ve never seen the suave captain bleed such vulnerability before.
You didn’t say anything else to him after that. You move your hands to his arms, unwinding yourself from them before pulling him pathetically up onto his own bed. Not even bothering to fix your position, you fall back onto the mattress with your feet hanging off the edge and he easily follows you. From the lighting provided from the hall, you notice his eyepatch string had loosened from all his face hiding and you take it upon yourself to tighten it- securing it back where it belongs. Your fingertips linger around its material for but a moment before sliding down to his cheek.
His eye is brimmed with tears that had stained his skin with tracks and swelling. He also wouldn’t make eye contact with you, and you roll your eyes endearingly at his childish whims. With you both laying sideways on the bed, feet and legs hanging and not even a blanket to cover up with, your thumb run over his skin. Kaeya is quick to reach for and latch his grip delicately onto your wrist to keep it there.
“‘M sorry,” he mutters again, sounding much more shy than he did before now that his face was in view of your gaze. You smile at him, knowing there was a long and meaningful talk in the near future.
“I know. Go to sleep.”
“But I-”
“Artists' orders,'' you chortle. He just scoffs and offers his own eye roll, but his cheek warms under your palm. His eye closes and he let out a deep breath before taking one back in and repeating.
“Stay until I open my eyes again.”
“I will.”
And you did.
