Heather Kuttai did not have to look long or far for a reason she felt she must resign from her position as Saskatchewan Human Rights commissioner.

Above all else, the issue truly hits home.

“What drove me to this is, my husband and I have a kid who’s trans,” said Kuttai, who resigned following the provincial government’s decision to utilize the notwithstanding clause to pass a policy mandating teachers obtain parental consent before using a student’s preferred name and pronouns at school.

In a letter on Monday announcing her resignation effective immediately, Kuttai — one of six human rights commissioners in Saskatchewan — said the decision did not come lightly. But to her, the policy itself is “an attack on the rights of trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse children.

“A child’s rights must always take precedence over a parent’s obligations and responsibilities,” Kuttai said.

“My first concern is that this (bill) is going to hurt kids.”

I still can’t get over how a major part of Charlie’s character arc was that he was outed, and that Heartstopper clearly showed the negative toll it took on him, and instead of thinking, “outing people sucks, I shouldn’t do it,” the fandom went and outed one of the real-life actors!

How do you miss the point this badly???

I'm sorry your dad is homophobic :( and, again, her intentions aren't what matters—what matters is she shouldn't be putting you through this. You shouldn't be forced to feel like your chance to tell people when and how you want to is slipping through your fingers.

I don't know if you want to talk to her about this, but if you do, please, please know that you have absolutely every right to ask her to stop and to insist on that boundary as much as necessary. You're not exaggerating, or being unreasonable, or selfish, or ungrateful, or anything similar. Every single person deserves the right to choose when and how to come out to others.
