My post for day one of the @first-try-techno-challenge and I got Techno and Tubbo !! I’m a day late because I wanted to finish it and post the finished version + 30 minute sketch together but I started too late in the day yesterday 😭

Here’s the 30 minutes version:

Wait wait- I know it's midnight but I saw a post about clingyduo and now I have fireworksduo thoughts-

What if c!Tubbo and c!Techno both like roughhousing? c!Tubbo would always just do so much horseplay with Tommy, they would brawl about causing problems for fun constantly when they were younger. c!Techno isn't even fully aware of it, but he bullies and tackles and wrestles with people he likes, sometimes before he even consciously considers them a friend (pre-Doonsday he would tackle c!Ranboo and just roughhouse with them all the time, he didn't even realize his fondness at that point but he was already endeared)

After fireworksduo start trying to reconcile and become friends again after c!Ranboo's death, they start out sparring and brawling to get their feelings out, give all the resentment they've had for each other for months somewhere to go. Then they just keep doing it. They just roll around in the dust or snow play-fighting every time they see each other. They both love it

First of all your fic is a delight and every time you post another chapter I’m overjoyed I need you to know that

Second of all I’d never considered Solangelo/Valgrace interactions before reading that fic but now I’m stuck on the mental image of them being in a dark cave or something for a quest and Will starts glowing and Leo goes “Hey, I can do that too” lets go of Jason’s hand and promptly lights himself on fire

Honestly, I hadn’t considered them interacting either until I started writing this. Originally I hadn’t even put Jason in the story, but I wanted Will to have his own separate plot line while Leo and Nico went off to cause trouble. It was important to me that Will could be seen as more of his own character, but him going after them alone didn’t feel right. That’s when I realized it would be perfect to add Jason, that way Leo has his own plot as well and Will can have his own adventure while interacting with another person that’s not Nico (I love solangelo but i’m trying to push the “Will is more than Nico’s bf” agenda). Not sure if that makes sense but it’s how the pieces fell into place in my brain.

I absolutely love that idea though, seriously that is something I would love to incorporate into the story if you’d like that. I too thought about the similarity in the ways of Wills brightness and Leo’s fire, but this concept is amazing and is going to be stuck on my mind 24/7. Especially the image of Leo just randomly combusting into flames, it’s so good.

One of the larger miscommunications between scp Tubbo and The Blade (of which there are frankly many) that I think really shapes Tubbos’ perception is the difference between their similar power systems. Because with Tubbo they have a massive choice in who is in the Hivemind, and assume The Blade chose to be the vessel of a violent god. Potentially they even think he allowed every single voice in, probably via evilly and non consentually going around ripping people apart to join The Blade’s Hivemind, given Tubbos’ traumatic associations with Collecting and how they equate The Blade with senseless violence. This category is more in the lines of casual assumptions not really considered, more subconscious than anything. I feel like this could be cleared up pretty easily.

What IS more of a problem is that Tubbo is fairly in control of who is fronting in the Hivemind (too controlling even). Even more crucially, Tubbo doesn’t understand that The Blade does NOT have control of his own body in certain conditions* and so legitimately couldn’t stop The Blood God from disabling Tubbo. Meanwhile The Blade feels kinda bad (and actually will have a crisis once he learns some crucial information, but spoilers) but ultimately feels like it isn’t fully his fault. He takes responsibility for his actions, but not necessarily the entire blame because that was The Blood God, not him.

But to Tubbo, it reads as ‘oh no it’s not REALLY my fault I nearly killed you because the evil person I chose to have in my skull was fronting (something that I could have stopped if I cared enough to)’ because that’s what it would mean if it was Tubbo who’d hurt someone.

Which. Yeah. Obviously the problem is far greater than that misunderstanding, but the stark differences between their headmate systems certainly isn’t helping.

Afterwards, a debt settles in his gut he can’t shake until it's completed. Assuming Tubbo had seen his husband’s demise on his communicator, he told Phil he had to tell the blonde what happened. His crow partner knew him all too well that his mind will not silence until the task is completed, waves him off while putting away their battle gear.

Leading him here, in the borders of a country who had a tenuous alliance with the Emerald Duo at best. Taking careful steps forward he begins to look for the grieving blonde, seeing him standing before the book that held the independence of the nation.

“Tubbo?” Techno calls out hesitantly, his blue eyes glassy in the cold air as he stared off into the distance.

The piglin puts away his trident and strips out his armour, placing it safely into his inventory. Not wanting to appear a threat to the obviously distressed man, he observes the weight of the world on that youthful flesh. His shoulders dragging low, his fingers were frozen in place around the railing. Techno wonders just how often he stood here alone, feeling the decisions of a nation that aged him before their very eyes.

“Toby?” His voice is soft as he ascends the stairs leading up to his side, Tubbo’s head whipping around to glare at him.

Techno swore lightning flashed in that grieving gaze, precipitation freezing to his face while the news settled in. “What. Happened.”
