AHAAA I FINISHED IT WOAHHH i usually don't finish art things omg...

Anyways current sabre design!!! (It will probably change bc I can NEVER make up my mind on any design ever sob)

He's such a goof :3 (IM NEVER DRAWING THAT RAINBOW ELYTRA AGAIN IM CRYING)

Anyways some headcanons below cuz I feel like yapping :3

-rainbow totally would have gotten him and sabre friendship necklaces (yk the matching kind with magnets that come together n all) and after knowing lucas for a bit he woulda made friendship bracelets !!

-like that one person I reblogged said, he's such a mad scientist he's so silly omgg

-i love the reincarnation au SO MUCH its literally fire but in normal headcanons I think he used to be part of the creed and an assasin and ermm

Basically I headcanon his whole assassins creed series was basically his backstory before starting to do research on these 'steve' entities

-when nervous/anxious his footsteps will be completely silent out of habit from the whole assassin thing, and he'd obviously do it when purposefully trying to sneak (he has probably scared rainbow or Lucas multiple times by doing this..)

-I'm not sure weather to headcanon that his wings were damaged by a steve really early on in the steve saga (like before rainbow could speak or maybe when dark was still pretending to be blue) or if it was smth that happened when he was still an assassin but it's one of those!!!

-hes an avian.. heh... if u couldn't tell from the ref sheet.. but NOT a chicken!! The chicken jokes are just bc of the hoodie and bc his feathers look a lil similar :3

-he has like 2 of the same chicken hoodie he'll wear most often but still has some normal outfits AND assassins outfits and weapons he keeps away (most are green or have some sort of green in them heh.. I might draw that later)

-ok ok ok I have so many eye headcanons it's so hrggrrrrh the main one tho is one I snatched from the reincarnation au and that's that he doesn't have eyes!! Bc of an injury or sum and he js says he has sensitive eyes and the bandana fabric is see through up close.. but he can still see bc he's a player and the way players work is weird. Other headcanon, green eyes. Other headcanon, brown eyes. Other headcanon, heterachromia green and brown eyes. Other headcanon pure white eyes. Other headcanon code eyes. Other headcanon (gets hit by a bus)

-if we r going with the reincarnation au for the eyes, I feel like only rainbow and Lucas would know, if we're going with the others, I'd say rainbow, Lucas, Alex, galaxy, and maybe the guardian (I forgot if that's what he was called or not) would know. If we're going with the code eyes, then only lucas would know

-not sabre specifically but I feel like steves in general wouldn't be very used to or know but about blood/gore stuff, bc they're more used to being destroyed/poofing, and later on being destroyed through a machine. Being actually killed by a sword or something of the sort they are not used to seeing, and are very touchy on the subject

-on that note I imagine if there's like a steve that's immune to most or all other steve powers and or machines that they're trying to get rid of and arguing on what to so abt I imagine sabre being like "oh 1 sec I got this" and boom that mf DEAD 😭

-and they'd b like 😰

"Guess we're gonna have to kill this guy sabre" "damn"

-ermmm silly billy activity...

-I feel like he'd know a lot more than the other steves on things like the nether and end (not end city tho that's a whole other mc headcanon I don't feel like yapping abt rn) bc those are the dimensions players have access too and steves usually dont.. so they'd b like "WTF SABRE WHAT R U DOING THAT IS A LITERAL HELLSCAPE WITH LAKES OF FIRE AND MONSTERS WEVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE FYM U CAN GET 'NETHERITE' THERE" and he'd b like "well don't go in the fire then and it anything attacks u kill it ig" (not actually sob.. I feel like only he and Lucas would go there bc most steves r hindered greatly by lava and the only ones we've seen that aren't are bad guys if my memory is correct)

Hey Neyla! I hope it’s ok that I ask but is there a brush setting you prefer on procreate? I’ve been inspired by your art for eons but I can’t comprehend photoshop. You can totally disregard this if you don’t use procreate though!

Hello! I don't know how long this message's been sitting in my inbox because i didnt check in for a while 🥺 I hope you get to see this either way!

I don't use procreate unfortunately, but I can explain the settings I use for my brushes on CSP in general, and if it works like any other art software then you should have similar settings on procreate

for sketches/linework, I will very often use an opaque & slightly textured round brush. the most important for me is for the brush to have that fuzzy sort of texture that gives the impression of using a pen/marker on paper.

note that i am actually terrible when it comes to line weight, it's definitely not something i work on a lot other than in backgrounds, so I don't actually bother too much with pen pressure settings.

the only rule I abide to is to always set the minimum value above 0 (anywhere between 20-30 is what I use). this is because when I started drawing, I used to be very heavy-handed and would wear out my pens too quickly-- so setting a minimum can help you become more aware of how hard you're pressing on your pen and make gentler strokes.

another fun little setting i use is opacity: like I said, I use opaque brushes for lines, but I like to reduce a tiny bit of opacity when brushing very lightly to give that impression of pen on paper.

There's a couple more brushes I use for coloring or rendering; the major sticking point being that I don't use pen pressure to control brush size that much. If I want to make thinner/smaller strokes, I'll simply reduce the brush size because it's easier for me to control!

(also, opacity is something I'll use a lot more when I'm working on colors)

just know that this is my way of handling it, and it may not suit your style. pen pressure may be another artist's best friend, so please make sure you try out what works best for you :)

finally, some art softwares come with stabilization. I don't use it personally, unless i'm actually trying to do really smooth curves (which is practically never). stabilization can also make CSP lag a lot with higher values and large brushes. the use of stabilization doesn't make you a bad artist or a lazy one, and not using it can make your lines look a tiny bit wobbly if you're not used to doing quick strokes. use stabilization at your own leisure!

on a different note, i know this wasn't part of the question but I'm bringing this up since it's something I tend to hear from people who say they were inspired by my art (thank you by the way🥺💕!!) : don't be misled by artstyles that "make it look easy"! my sketches may look very simple and natural because i'm more adept at bringing out the essential and discarding details in a design. this is not necessarily what you want for your art style; maybe you like drawing details a lot, maybe you prefer the lazy way out going straight to the point. neither are good or bad, only what you like to do matters.

also, if you're frustrated by your work, don't be afraid to draw over it as many times as you want, adjusting things with the lasso tool or deform if something feels off then drawing over again. sometimes you'll be satisfied with your first take, and sometimes you'll need 3 bases before its acceptable (examples below)-- it all depends on your mood, energy, motivation, desired outcome, format, or even just randomness

Unecessarily long explanation/analysis of what Re:vale's name might mean

I don't know how to start this ok so basically this post and these tags from @nitunio

inspired me to try to explain my own interpretation and I maybe accidentally spent several days looking into the etymology in the process and now I have more to say about it than I did initially. So I wanna start by outlining every potentially relevant definition/use of re and vale that I found and then I'm gonna talk about how some of them relate to Re:vale. This post has sections and a reference list baby let's go

1: Definitions of re

1. In music terms, re is the second syllabic note in a diatonic scale (do re mi etc.)

2. Re: specifically with a colon at the end is often used as an abbreviation of 'reply' (especially in emails) and/or as the Latin re meaning 'regarding' or 'in reference to'

3. In most cases, re as a prefix/affix indicates 'back' (as in return) or 'again' (as in repetition)

2: Definitions of vale

1. The Middle English vale (pronounced like veil) is another term for valley (derived from the Latin vallis), used in literary/poetic contexts or place names to mean:

A low stretch of land surrounded by hills or mountains, usually with a river flowing through it

The world or mortal life (figuratively and often with connotations of sorrow or hardship, such as in the phrase "vale of tears")

2. In most modern uses, the Latin vale means 'farewell' or 'goodbye', especially in the context of death (apparently this is really common in Australia? I've never heard it before)

3. This use is derived from valeō (or present infinitive valēre), which basically means 'be well/healthy' - so vale in Latin means 'goodbye' in the sense of wishing someone good health, safe travels etc.

Valeō/valēre can also denote strength and worth, and it's the root of both valour and value

4. From what I can find, vale in Spanish is mainly used as a colloquial term similar to 'OK' or 'cool' in English, but it's an inflection of valer which can mean 'valid' or 'worth' and is also derived from the Latin valēre! everything is connected :D

TLDR two main uses of vale both derived from Latin: vallis meaning valley and valeō meaning to be well/healthy/strong/worth

3: What 1 year and 4 months of being a Re:vale fan does to a man

Yuki and Momo's symbols are both repeats, and the two dots (resembling a colon) are what distinguish repeats from final barlines in sheet music (more of me rambling about their symbols here - it's also where the design on their rings comes from, which is something that I keep realising and then instantly forgetting about).

Considering this, I think that the most relevant and likely intended meaning of the 're:' in Re:vale is repeat - we also see English words with the prefix used in this sense pretty frequently with Re-raise, 'revive' and 'rebirth' in Dis one., and 'restart' and 'reborn' in Period Colour. The 'back' aspect also has some significance here, especially in Re:member (the word remember doesn't mean you're like. membering again. it refers to memories. but the title re:member is very intentionally split that way because re:vale both gains and loses a member, so it works with both the again and back implications. anyways). This is also a bit of a recurring theme in i7, what with the whole "the ideal idol is one that doesn't end" thing.

Turning our attention to vale as in valley, once you look into it the whole "vale of tears" meaning doesn't really align with Re:vale unless you only interpret their story as a tragedy, but if you were to look it up and just see the definition "the world" with very little context, then it seems pretty fitting for the most famous currently active idols in the Idolish7 universe. But it actually symbolises how they mean the world to me and also to each other. And the figurative world of suffering that they have put me through thank you and goodnight. Just kidding there's more. I would say something about the valley (landform) and how Yuki is the river and Momo and Banri are the surrounding hills but you get the idea. Momo would live by the river...... he wouldlive by the river. I think about this every day

Anyways. So I really can't say how much of this is intentional but the 'goodbye' vale is especially accurate if you consider the underlying meaning - it's a way of saying goodbye, but it's also sort of a way of saying good luck and be strong. It's the same as how Banri has to say goodbye to Re:vale, but he also tells Yuki to "find a place to sing as yourself". And valour is kind of Trigger's thing (see: valiant) but reaching a little further for the 'value' meaning, it goes back to the whole Mikansei Na Bokura thing - all three of Re:vale's members had to lose something important to them, but the time they spent with it was still valuable and in the end they're able to retain those experiences and move forward to something just as valuable. In the end the name is a bit of a cluster of things vaguely related to them but I guess if you put it together it's like. The repetition of them saying this to each other. Yeah Momo after his injury getting that push from Yuki and Ban's concert to start saying goodbye and moving on and yeah like nitu said him affirming Yuki. Banri saying goodbye/I can't be there next to you anymore but I'll cheer you on from the sidelines and remember the time we spent together fondly and be able to smile once we meet again (<- from the end of his re:member pov). Yuki stabbing me 12 million times in the chest I mean um. Yuki... yeah I'm gonna need another 14 days to write that post let me get back to you on that one. But you get the idea. You get it

in every fandom there comes a time when you have to ask yourself, ok but what classes would these characters be if they were in D&D

overlong headcanons/design notes under the cut:

I based this AU off my rudimentary knowledge of D&D and it’s classes, but I’m taking creative liberties and it can be thought of as just a general fantasy rpg-style thing. Ended up being a mix match of comics and MCU but it’s an AU so hey it’s fine right lol

KAMALA - Sorcerer/Monk

Arguably one of the hardest to actually decide a class for?? I’m imagining her powers here as more akin to those she has in the MCU show; they’re something innate to her, passed down through her bloodline (and possibly unlocked by some event or heirloom as in the case of the TV show). I think the way she fights would be something closer to a monk, though? After awakening her powers, she journeys around helping people in the same way as she becomes Ms Marvel, both on her own and with the party.

Kamala’s design is based pretty much entirely off the Mystic Marvel design (originally I believe from Champions, also in the Avengers game)! I saw this design and my brain instantly went brrrr because it basically combines my two fave marvel heroes (Dr Strange and Kamala)!! I changed a few parts of the design, and simplified the shirt a bit. I think it suits Kamala well for a fantasy AU - even in the main comics she wears an outfit that’s comfy and easy to move in!

NAKIA- Sorcerer/Cleric

Since Nakia is the only sensible one here, it made sense for her to be the (begrudging, probably) healer. I think it suits her personality well too though! I’m imagining here that her powers are innate (like a sorcerer), but she just uses healing magic the most (like a cleric). More similar perhaps to something like the cleric class in Fire Emblem Awakening, where clerics are often religious but their powers aren’t something directly conferred by the gods.

Nakia’s design is based entirely off of her Storm Sage look in Ms Marvel (2015) #38 (aka the one where the gang gets isekai’d) Once again simplified it a little and softened some of the shapes (since it’s more of a villain look in the comic, but she’s obvs a good guy here)

BRUNO - Wizard/Artificer

Bruno’s outfit is also partly inspired by #38 (esp for colour scheme), but I mainly just did my own thing for what I thought he should look like in a fantasy AU ahahah. Gave him a long coat because if there’s one thing I love more than wizards, it’s wizards with long coats lmao

To me the D&D wizard class is much more the ‘study and research’ side of magic so it think it works well for the scientifically inclined Bruno. The thirst for knowledge and hubris (all the benchmarks of a good wizard character, really) are also very fitting for him, I think..!!

He’s a natural prodigy of magic and manages to get accepted to a prestigious and exclusive magic school but is kicked out after The Accident. Leaves to find somewhere else that’s willing to teach him since he can’t accept the idea of not learning magic. Meets Kwezi and the rest plays out much as it does in the comics

His prosthetics are powered with some kind of Magical Rock (call it a magic substitute for vibranium), and made by Kwezi. I’m undecided whether they’re grafted onto his arm/leg or it’s a whole Full Metal Alchemist situation but maybe a bit of both? The arm also acts as a conduit of sorts for casting his own magic (hence where the artificer class comes in). As he makes all sorts of stuff for Kamala in the comics/show I think him having the ability to craft magical items also fits well. Probably learns that magic from Kwezi. Which brings us to...

KWEZI - Artificer

Another magical prodigy, but I see Kwezi as more of a support type to Bruno’s spellcaster. The embodiment of chaotic good. I think he’d be mainly a crafter of magical items (sort of like Olruggio in Witch Hat Atelier?)

His background in this AU is the same as in the comics, and him and Bruno go adventuring a bit themselves before joining up with Kamala and co eventually. I think he’d be pretty sheltered when it comes to travelling outside fantasy-Wakanda, especially compared to Bruno, so hijinks ensue. (Side note, but I absolutely adore that contrast when it comes to Kwezi & Bruno’s dynamic, I’m so in love with them both)

The green cloak-wrap is inspired by his formal outfit in Ms Marvel (2015) #30, and the harem pants are from #29. I think comfy, practical clothes suit Kwezi, and I like that the colour scheme for him is a nice contrast with Bruno!

KAREEM - Rogue

Probably the easiest class to decide on because really what else could it be?? I’m undecided on whether Kareem should have his origin from the MCU show or the comics for this AU - personally I prefer comics but I do think a secret society sort of thing would work well for a fantasy AU so I’m leaning a bit more towards that perhaps.

His design is a mix of MCU, comics and my own take on it to make it a little more fantasy/rogue-like.

KAMRAN - Sorcerer

Probably the only one here (except maybe Kareem) who’s primarily based off his MCU appearance rather than the comics. I see him as being initially a bit more of a bad guy than in the show though, a sort of misguided villain who eventually ends up joining the party (see: Zuko in ATLA)

He’s grown up with the Clandestines (probably some kind of cult here) and he generally believes in their mission, so it takes a little more for him to turn on them. As a sorcerer his powers manifest suddenly and he doesn’t understand how to control them at first. The Clandestines probably want him to use his powers to their ends, and that, along with run-ins with Kamala gets him questioning whether he should continue to follow them or turn away from the only family he’s ever known...

Kamran’s design was probably the hardest to figure out, since he only really has appearances in regular clothes, and no canon alternate designs to work off of (like Nakia/Bruno/Zoe). In the end I was thinking of the Clandestines and what they might wear in such a setting? The blue colour scheme is based off the jacket he wears in ep 6 (probably his most iconic MCU look) and also his coat/scarf look in Ms Marvel (2014) #13. I don’t think I captured Kamran’s likeness very well here but his outfit actually turned out to be one of my faves, so swings and roundabouts hahah

ZOE - Fighter

I’m imagining Zoe in this AU is the daughter of some lowly noble family (a big shot in the town that her and the gang are from, not so much elsewhere). After a run in with some bandits where she’s saved by Kamala, she resolves that she needs to get stronger. Not the strongest nor the most skillful fighter, but she’s trying her best!!

Zoe’s design is inspired by her fantasy look in #38 (the pink tunic in particular), but I changed and added some details to it. Her cloak I swapped out for the pink scarf, as inspired by her stint as Ms Marvel!

BECKY - Paladin-->Warlock & JOSH - ???

The actual bad guys of this AU ahahah. I’m imagining here that the events of Civil War II play out pretty much the same in this AU as in the comics. Becky starts out as a paladin with generally good intentions, but when she crosses a line she gets disowned (is that the right word?? probably not) by her god. Unable to deal with it, she turns instead to darker powers, making a pact and becoming a warlock.

I haven’t really thought about what class Josh would be... maybe a fighter as well (to match Zoe?), but I’m imagining him as a sort of mysterious Black Knight type figure, hence the you haven’t unlocked this character yet question marks lmao

Their designs are based entirely off their lockdown/discord appearances, just adapted into fantasy-armour style. I think the designs carried over really well, actually (definitely helped by the excellent colour schemes!)

And there you have it LOL I have no idea if I’m gonna do anything more with this AU but just wanted to share the brainrot, so if you got this far THANKS..... any thoughts/suggestions for other characters I should add are always welcome!!

heyyyy! Tell us about your version of the cainhurst king. maybe even how things go between him and annalise! I hope you don't mind me asking

Anon are you kidding? I am super happy you asked, thank you!

It's true I tried to avoid talking about him to not spoil my fic project but I slip every time so screw it, let's go (Plus it's not like Annalise is going to become Queen and him King in the fic I am currently writing so better talk about them now because it's uncertain if I will manage to ever write about it 🙄)

Also, omg are you asking this because of my shitpost drawing? Oops XD this is really the dumbest thing…

Ok so I inspired myself a lot from the version my good friend created X and X. I really like it so I create a similar yet quite different version. (I mean they just look the same and have a few characteristics in common but that's it really)

So yeah, I think this guy right here is the king during Annalise's reign.

I named him Charles. It was supposed to be a place holder name at first, when I was doing some story planning but I stick with it XD Typical old French name many kings had that's why I called him like this. + for the older design I used the dear cut content (because yes, we probably should have fight him instead of Logarius at first.

So for this ask I drew some designs! : (As a Byrgenwerth student and as king, younger and older)

In my story I also have Annalise's father, the precedent king consort appearing. I draw him as well for the occasion.

(ok he might look a bit older and tired compared to the chap5 of my fic so let's say it's a flash forwards of a few years later, a few months before he died of cancer. I'm sorry that sound really bad 😭 poor Richard…)

Ok so Charles, he's from a smaller noble family (the one from where the executioners gloves came from) they doesn't live at Cainhurst since a few years but he passed a few years from his childhood here. As such he's a childhood friend of Maria, Annalise and all the lil squad of Cainhurst OCs. Maria & him are closer in age (he's 1 year older than her and 2 years younger than Annalise) so they passed a lot of time together and were both really turbulent and unhinged children XD like you can see here. All the things TO NOT do, you can be sure they tried it out 🤣

Then well he went to live a bit far with his family and only went to Cainhurst to important event/ meetings/holidays etc…

Years later he become a student at Byrgenwerth and check notes began a cursus in history or smt? Antic history of the pthumerians civilization and afterwards or something like this. Maria joined Byrgenwerth one year later too! Some other events happened and it allow him to reconnect with Cainhurst a lot.

Ok so when I say he's a lil bastard it's affectionally and for real too <3 he's really similar yet different from Laurence for exemple idk how to explain. You know the popular type of guy who don't listen well in class and party a lot but still pass all his classes… (besides tell him to shut it in class Laurence can say much he was the same XD ok maybe Charles is more of a clown class and had more friends but still).

But even if he can stand the mean noble girls (&boys) contrary to Maria, he still passed times with her when he could and even hang out with the Byrgenwerth squad as well.

Also my friend think he might got a scare on the forehead (see painting) and I agree with this that's why he got one. How he got it you ask? Oh well… cough cough the infamous prom night! Not telling too much for now. Can't wait to write about it

So, in parallel concerning Cainhurst: It wasn't doing great and was loosing lots of influence sand after some tragic events happened "the knight cough & beast story cough cough" he speaks with the king, Annalise, lots of people besides Maria and began slowly to have a new objective in mind. + when Maria takes distance from Cainhurst so he actually grow closer to them at her place (well they were kinda missing a few royal guards so like they took what they could)

He could do a few things in battle but clearly didn't have the lvl of a royal guard or a strong warrior so he needed to learn and that wasn't always easy.

Flash forwards a few years later after he graduated but still hanged out at Byrgenwerth. Guess what the bastard did? ^^

Yeah, he's the scholar who stole the forbidden blood.

So yeah, THIS GUY! Damn. Well, it's actually kind of complicated because Byrgenwerth should have make a report to Cainhurst/ give it to them but they didn't so… Still Maria wanted to kick his ass XD (seriously he used her to know where it was and he leaved with everyone from Cainhurst except her. I mean he couldn't tell her but she almost got in big troubles)

"No Maria you can't go to his face and insult him in front of everyone…"

"Why not?" "… ok so he might actually become our next king consort and I hate it." "WHAT?!" (she still scolds him XD)

Yeah, when they asked him what he wanted for his service besides being a full-time resident at Cainhurst bro said, "Your hand my Queen" "bud that's not gonna work-" "Ok sure" O_O

Turn out, he planned the whole thing (stealing the blood) with Annalise 🤣

Yeah they did grow closer this past few years and everyone is on Annalise back to get a consort so…. (Also of course he's a simp. Who isn't at Cainhurst lol. He's not jealous btw because he know he will always be simp n°1 XD). So yeah somehow that's a big ship I have and I NEED CONTENT 😭 (Fantomette do it yourself! there is literally only 2-3 people to want that! You don't understand I just wanna read fics made by someone else on them! I can't write that!!)

But well, many nobles aren't that impressed so they ask him to do other stuff before. Like going into the chalice dungeons and recover some stuff. Funniest shit ever when he argues with Vledemyr all the time, or even Logarius and Gehrman just want to take all their heads and bonk them together XD yeah funny times.

Also most of all the statues at Cainhurst are because of him and he managed to bring back the crown of Illusions in the end! He almost died too but shhh (Annalise still scold him for it. The crown was lost in there since quite sometimes so Cainhurst only had one and it lost its power. + maybe a ring 🤔).

In the meantime, well Annalise absorb the forbidden blood and kinda become "immortal" (I headcanon that it prolongs the life a lot, you don't age normally etc and you heal if you get hurt. Explain how she can cut her arms and have no marks after a few minutes. The bigger the injuries the longer it takes to regenerate. Like if she were to "die" her body wouldn't get cold but stayed warms and she would wake up after a few hours/days or more etc what we used in the game really make it go faster).

Then he finally marries Annalise and become King! And the Vilebloods are formed wow and they try to make Cainhurst great again etc.

But yeah, it's not over. There is one small problem that happen a few years after… (besides the beast scourge of Yharnam and the church + Byrgenwerth being less or more ok with their practices). Annalise have a lot of difficulty to have a child (not that it's super urgent but it's still a problem).

You can be sure they both tried their best but it doesn't work. Either it's hard for her to get pregnant and when she does she have miscarriage after miscarriage. Most of the time it happened in the first couple of months but one time it happened almost at term or around 6-7 months perhaps? That was so bad that if Annalise wasn't "undead/immortal" she would have died. That was really a bad time for everyone. Even poor Maria was left a bit traumatized by the experience… (yes she came to help of course and that was before the hamlet I think) And Charles really was at the lowest in his life (not the only one too) he blamed himself because he thought that those problems could have been link with the forbidden blood (yes but not really).

So, in the end they managed to find something about an old ritual the pthumerians used, to get "powerful and special children" the child of blood. And with the discovery of the blood dregs, they become to participate even more intensely to the hunt…. and because of this and other events they ended up becoming the enemy of the church…

When the executioners went to kill the Vilebloods, Charles fight till his last breath to protect his Queen, Annalise, his future not born yet child of blood and his subjects. He killed lots of the executioners but they were too many and Logarius was there and stronger than before…

Ok that's it for the over whole story. Now, he's kind of egoist with lot of pride and "I am better than everyone" type of guy but he still have moment where he showed real concerned for people he cared about + he grow wiser with age. Still, he wouldn't have problem to kill/ execute someone who's accuse of crimes against Cainhurst. He would do that without a second thought. Unlike someone else cough cough.

And yeah when Maria was a teenager and wasn't feeling well at all she passed a summer with him and his family and he did helped her feel better, likewise with some bad stuff that happened at Cainhurst during her Byrgenwerth years. He was there to support Annalise during harsh times and when she became Queen too. And was the emotional pillar and protector to her after he became her husband and king. Even if they encourage each other to grow worst and go on a really dark path…

He tried to not show a too much "soft side" to anyone (except a few persons person like his dear Queen). He did crack emotionally a couple of time and even if he really tried to hide it, Annalise generally end up knowing and recomfort him. They are each other biggest support after all.

But hey he did become good friends with Vledemyr! (Anna & Maria cousin, royal guard etc) when at first it was really complicated XD And his relationship with lil Voron (bloody crow when he was a baby/child) is really cute too <3

Ok last thing I headcanon that Logarius sword his originally the Charles wield.

DI sol tier list???

I love DI Sol sooooooooo much. This list will be from least to most favorite:

Original Flavor Dragon Install: Not a whole lot of art for the early era of Sol's Gear form. I suspect that maybe Daisuke hadn't decided how far he wanted to push the design yet, or that maybe it was limited by the technology of the time. This illustration is the only one that has more going on than just white eyes. Note that he still has the suppressor headband on.

HOS DI: Tail

Xrd/Strive era: I've talked about this design a lot and how very close it is to being incredibly cool. Unfortunately, it's kinda goofy. No pants? Where'd his nose go? Why does the middle horn have jiggle physics. The glowy effect they did for his body is cool and I like that his head being almost solidly black is reminiscent of the brief moment you see him in silhouette in the older games when he installs, but I get the impression that this design might have been rushed. It uses the same jacket Sol wears in the story mode and the lack of pants is just way too funny.

Vastedge: This is another one where I used to feel like it was just missing something when I first saw it, and then I saw how it looked in the actual Vastedge animations and it changed my mind. It's pretty good, I'd like to draw it some day. This one being low on the list comes down entirely to personal taste. I like detailed designs more and this one is mostly a solid black silhouette. (note: the red hair/wings and cyan belts are placeholder colors in the concept art).

The Begin design: LA CREATURA. Ok I know he's just red and spooky in this design and that's super generic, especially with it being ABOVE the Vastedge design, but I think it's a good case of "less is more." The atmosphere of it makes it. Look at how he's clinging to the mirror in the second picture. Can you imagine that sprinting at someone at like 120mph and then bisecting them with his bare hands like they're a friggin loaf of bread??? This design would never work in the games, but it's perfect for the biological horror theme of Begin.

OVERTURE DRAGON INSTALL SOL: God what a FREAK. I love this design so much. It's the only one that has any design motif similarities with other (non-humanoid) Gears we've seen, with the big chompy teeth and more draconic silhouette, while also having aspects that would return in the Xrd/Strive design. It's so MEATY. AND it has 5 eyes?!? If they combined this design with the Xrd/Strive one, we'd get the coolest DI design Sol's ever had.

Sakuraco Box #2 Review: Autumn Moon Festival

Theme: Autumn Moon Festival - same as Bokksu!

Similar to Gliss, there's a special place in my heart for the Autumn Moon Festival, so I was very excited for this box! Let's get right into it.

Shipping timeline for this box:

September 14 - Shipping Email Received

September 20 - Box Arrived in US, West Coast

September 27 - Box Received in Mail, East Coast

The box arrived just in time for me to enjoy these snacks leading up to the Moon Festival (September 29th). It shipped around the same part of the month as last time, so it looks like I should expect boxes to arrive towards the end of the month in general.

Pre-Opening the Box

I was a little weary when I saw that the box was packed like this again

but I was actually pleasantly surprised when the label peeled off cleanly without any lifting or damaging of the box!

I think a major difference this time is that there's no additional packing tape on top of the bag? But maybe the box itself is a bit higher quality too because there's no semi-circle of lifting where I took off the sealing circle of tape.

I know I'm putting a lot of attention on this, but since saving and displaying these boxes was something I was greatly looking forward to, I really appreciate having that small boost in quality. Not to mention that I love the design of this month's box, and was hoping that I would be able to show it off!

Now let's take a look inside!

Taking everything out of the box and seeing so many cute rabbit snacks just made me more and more excited. Not only is it really fun to look at, but it also made me curious about what the unique character of each snack would be. (Note: There are 18 individually packaged snacks for a total of 12 unique snacks, and two teas)

The booklet is 23 pages and has information about the snacks and the traditions of Japanese moon viewing. I forgot to mention this last time, but the paper of the booklet is pretty nice, with a feel similar to a quality magazine.

Opening the flat white box in the back reveals a cute Tsukimi (moon viewing) dish!

The dish has a diameter of about 12 cm or just under 5 inches. It says it's both microwave and dishwasher safe.

Incidentally, if right now you're confused why rabbits play such a strong theme in this box, the booklet tells us it's because of a Japanese folktale, Tsuki no Usagi (Moon Rabbit), which the booklet goes on to share with us.

Ok, it's time to taste some snacks.

With Gliss's glowing comments about her White Chocolate Strawberry, when I saw this in my box I knew I would have to try it first. Opening the package, you get a fragrant aroma just like a ripe strawberry's; however, after taking a bite I found that the texture is more like chocolate. The smooth white chocolate flavor hits first and then the strawberry flavor joins in soon after. As a whole, I'd say the flavors are well balanced without being too sweet.

Next I thought I'd try the Usagi Pon Senbei.

Each package had 2 senbei in it. They had that classic umami flavor (from soy sauces), but ran a bit on the salty side.

Personal preference, but I've found that I enjoy lighter, crispier senbei more than the kind that's hard to bite into. In this one you can see how it's more light while still preserving that crispiness.

At this point, I had to open the Peach Jelly. I'd been eyeing it this entire time and couldn't resist any longer. (The Sakuraco boxes having jelly was a pretty big selling point for me. I didn't really try any during my recent trip to Japan because jelly was actually pretty expensive in comparison to other snacks.)

The two layers sort of separated when I popped it out of its container, but I don't mind. The clear layer of jelly was on top, and it had these little jelly leaves which I loved looking at. The darker layer with the red beans in it was on the bottom. The top layer had a refreshingly sweet, somewhat fruity taste, while the bottom layer was a bit thicker and more starchy, with a more pronounced fruit flavor. I'm saying "fruit" here because at first I thought it was maybe apple or pear, so I was a bit surprised to read that it's peach.

I could just be wrong, but mine also looks different from the picture, so I'm not sure if the jelly came in different designs or if I got a different jelly altogether? Either way, it was quite tasty.

Afterwards I went to the Black Okoshi.

It's a little like an Asian granola bar. There's some peanuts, karinto (deep fried puff) and black sesame seeds in here, all coated in an Okinawan brown sugar glaze. Crunchy, with a good ratio of peanuts to puff. A bit too sweet for me, but the serving size was small enough that I didn't grow tired of it before I could finish.

At this point I'd like to talk about the teas. Yes, plural! Last time we got two packets of the same type of tea, this time it's two different packets of tea.

The left one was like a barley tea while the right one was like a green tea. I think the green tea was this month's 'surprise', along with the next snack below. I don't usually drink tea so all I can say here is that they were pretty good, no complaints. I do want to point out though that in this month's booklet, they included brewing instructions!!

I did leave some feedback on their website last month that it would be nice if they included this, so it's really cool to see that they took that feedback seriously. Following the instructions, the tea didn't get bitter at all, letting me properly enjoy it while it's flavor was at it's best.

Ok let's continue with the snacks.

I didn't see this one in the booklet but scanning the QR code to check out this month's list of surprise snacks, I found it kind of looks like:

...Mame Mochi? Or at least this looked like the closest snack by far on the list. Reading the description made me slightly confused because I'm not sure I would describe the snack in my box as 'soft and fluffy'. It was more like puffed and crunchy. Biting down you get some crunch before the snack quickly disappears in your mouth and you hit those small black soybeans (?). It really was like eating a pocket of air and then finding you have some grain in your mouth.

Moving on, I was very excited to try the Black Sesame Mochi:

They came in a tray of 6, and were very cute. Although, after eating one I understand what Gliss was talking about when she said it was like tang yuan or the Chinese black sesame soup dumplings. (*Note: Bokksu had the exact same package of this snack in their box.) The black sesame mochi were bite sized and had the soft, chewy texture of mochi, with some smooth black sesame paste in the center. The main difference between the mochi and the soup dumpling is that the latter has way more filling and a thinner outer layer, whereas the mochi had a lot more rice cake. It was still pretty good, but my personal preference leans towards having more filling.

Going to another cute snack, the Usagi Marshmallow has a way of grabbing one's attention.

You can't really tell from this photo, but it actually has strawberry jam filling. If you've had marshmallow candy, then it basically tasted like that, plus some strawberry jam. Sweet and fluffy.

Continuing, below is the Chocolate Cream Danish.

This doesn't really seem like a traditional Japanese snack in any way.. But it sounded good so I was still interested in trying it. The pastry somewhat reminded me of a croissant, and the chocolate was very rich, like the coating you might find on top of a brownie (and of course, it was pretty sweet). The overall experience with this one was sort of a "huh, ok" for me.

At this point I really needed something salty to balance things out, so I decided to try the Peanut Arare.

And I'm really glad I did! Wow! Just one bite and I thought to myself "this is REALLY good." It had the perfect amount of crunch, a satisfying texture that was a little flakey and kind of melted in your mouth, as well as a savory flavor with some depth. The peanut didn't come through that strongly (at first I thought it tasted a bit more like a corn chip except less salty), but in retrospect it actually checks out that the depth came from the nuttiness of the peanuts. All aspects of this snack were a hit for me, and even when I finished what was given, I found myself wanting more!

The Anko Dorayaki was like a pancake with red bean paste filling.

The pancake part came through more strongly than the filling, but I like that they used yam flour in the dough to subtly add some more flavor. It was more light than I expected, and a tiny bit dry. Overall, I'd say this is the type of snack that pairs very well with tea.

Next, the Full Moon Cookie.

It tasted more or less like a vanilla cookie; thin, with a firm crunch that wasn't hard. It's not exactly a stand out snack in terms of taste (although fans of vanilla cookies would probably be delighted), but the design is indeed captivating and it wasn't too sweet.

Lastly, the Full Moon Soft Chew.

You can probably tell by now that I'm not a huge fan of candy (or anything that's too sweet). Not to mention that the designs on these are so cute that I would be ok with just setting them aside to look at them occasionally, but I should probably taste one for this blog.

They're definitely sweet, although I was surprised by the texture. It didn't really stick to my teeth and it had this granular quality to it that made this "ksh ksh ksh" sound while I chewed. This would definitely be a fun one for candy lovers.

Final Thoughts

So this box definitely leaned harder to the sweet side, with only 3 salty snacks and 9 sweet. Of the sweet ones, my favorite was definitely the jelly because of how unique it was and how it harmonized appearance, flavor, and texture to make an eminently enjoyable snack. Some of the other sweets might've not hit quite all the marks for me, but that's just personal preference.

Buying a service whose goal is to cater towards a wide variety of snackers, I'm content that so far each box hasn't had anything that I outright disliked, and even had a couple snacks that I absolutely loved (my favorite salty snack, or maybe even overall snack so far is definitely the peanut arare!).

Still, I think this box was very fun to open and explore, and it probably left a stronger impression on me over the previous box because of its theming (I'm an especially big fan of when Sakuraco does unique box designs! I feel like it sets the mood from the start). I do appreciate how the Okinawa box had a more balanced sweet/salty ratio, though I understand that it's probably more challenging curating salty snacks to have as much variety as the sweet ones.

I would say something along the lines of 'see you next month' here, but this month Gliss and I will be writing another blog that does a more in depth comparison between how Bokksu and Sakuraco handled the Moon Festival theme (since they happened to choose the same theme this month).

You're given the power to design a physical form of the three Elden Ring Outer Gods (Scarlet Rot, Frenzied Flame and Formless Mother), what do you do?

Ok, this is a tough one, but based on From-software’s past with designing gods…specifically the Bloodborne ones, I would go with the thematic type designs for each. I mean, Elden Beast is a star but bears resemblance to an amoeba, which is fascinating. The Astels are malformed stars apparently, but looks like this type of burrowing insect…so yeah, I’m gonna mostly go with the naturalistic imagery.

Scarlet Rot would be an Aeonian creature with a similarity in appearance to Ebrietas from Bloodborne. Veiny, sheer butterfly wings and a really messed up face with a hollowed “flower bulb” full of eyes and side tendrils made up out of the orange rot flower. More nasty though, like the Cedar Apple Rust phenomenon that I think may have inspired Malenia’s flower.

It would spew out rot from this cavity and its body would be an elongated, disgusting mass of spores. It’s over-all body would take on that centipede-like shape…similar to the kindred of rot…

But of course, with the wings as noted before. It’d be a chaotic and beautiful design, full of bright reds, oranges, and yellows. The scarlet demon of decay would be a sight to behold.

As for the Frenzied Flame, I actually do want to consider a few different designs. For one, when we become the Lord of Frenzied flame, the black hole head does not evade me…I mean…

Bro, that’s a void. It looks so unnatural and weird. So if we’re gonna go for the unnatural? I would say maybe a Sauronesque style would suit this god, with elements of a dancing fire aesthetic. This is what I mean.

A raving, chaotic force that clings to a black suit of barely distinguishable armor and a head that resembles our own upon becoming the Lord of Frenzied Flame. Give it fire dancer dual blades and extremely erratic movement that consumes everything around it. I want an imploding/exploding star. A black hole and supernova simultaneously. Chaos incarnate.

For the naturalistic approach…maybe a flameskimmer dragon fly with the void head and wings of pure flame…something buglike and eerie.

Now for the Formless Mother…well she’s formless, but…I get Flora of the Moon vibes, so I’m gonna go for that bloody, beastly creature design. Blood? Wounds? Yeah, she’s got long claws and fangs. Vampire type stuff, but with the bestial elements. Her theme is thorns and roses, so I think she’d have thorny appendages, crimson rose eyes, maybe a crown of bloody tendrils.

The blood magic, the red fire, and maybe the trident? I also like the vampiric themes here, so for a more natural addition, she could have the association with Vampire finches and mosquitoes (only female mosquitoes drink blood! They crave wounds! :D). Maybe the black wings of the finch? Kinda like the ones Mohg grows? Perhaps the long limbs of the mosquito?

I dunno. She’s an interesting one, and I have less of a clear image in my head, but maybe I’m thinking of some kind of blend between Elana, the Squalid Queen from DS2 and Flora.

Imagine what you can with that I guess, haha.

Sorry, this was a tad rushed because I was trying to get back to you asap, but I hope you maybe can get some idea starters from this! I think the trick with From Soft designs is a balance between order and chaos. Their designs are always grand and individual. There’s a lot of subtlety and grotesque beauty, but never so much extremity that it becomes gaudy. They just nail it every time and I think it has a lot to do with mixing beauty in with the disturbed, hence making it feel…somehow melancholy? So, yeah the natural inspiration helps because nature has plenty of that type of beauty already, eh?

Second Part, Secret Summer Paradise Event

Last time I discussed the content of the first quest in the event. Today I’m doing the second part.

So first we learn that Idyia also has bad memories of the desert. If we consider the three brothers (and later introduced Maymunah, Spantamad scholar, who investigated laylines in the dessert, something happened and she accidentally landed in the bottle) that is a reoccurring theme. She describes her memories of the desert, like wading through mud, which is curious, cause the desert normally is too dry for really muddy places, though it might hint at her being stuck in the sand, maybe quicksand, or just a metaphor that her memories aren’t easy to access, only the feeling of bad.

Now we meet Maymunah, just like the brothers, she thought Lidyia would be curled up somewhere crying at the moment, instead of fixing things. That characterisation, being so consistent, word for word, makes me suspicious, cause normally people act at least a bit differently around different people, so Lidyia might intentionally act like that.

Another thing I have talked about already last time is the age of the characters, or the time they’ve been in the bottle. Maymunah gets compared to Cyno, but when asked said she doesn’t know him. As a scholar from the academia though, she should (like everyone there) know of the General Mahamatra Cyno, cause if you do scientific misconduct, he’s the one to get you. That she doesn’t know him tells us that she’s been in the bottle for a while already, before Cyno’s time.

Then the whole thing happens where we restore the crystal light, and I’ve noticed that even after we restored it, that part of the domain stays in darkness the whole time. Of course it might be that it’s because that part deals with the light projectors and is generally decorated with pretty lights, so it might just be an aesthetic thing, but still, maybe there’s more to it.

While in the tent, we find the Lawrence cousin, who did have one component of the machine, but also seems to have changed on his way through Liyue and Sumeru, that I don’t get why he’d still steal it. Maybe he just began to think on his journey and stealing the component and feeling the consequence actually made him change, but I feel like we’re still missing the whole picture.

Lidyia takes the cousin outside while we were exploring the tent, but while he seemed week in the tent, he still looked pretty ok, while outside, he was confused, couldn’t remember parts of what happened in the tent, even though he was pretty lucid at that time, and was terrified out of his mind because of some massive shadow in the tent, Lidyia meanwhile brushed this of and said it’s side effects of his treatment (makes you wonder what’s that treatment)

What’s worth noting is the subtle nod towards the Samsara festival, when we say we’ve seen such a candy box too many times. It’s interesting that one of the original components is a candy box, it fits with the candy theme, also because the lights apparently emit a candy like smell?

Inside the tent we also get to know more about Maymunah, her dad worked at the bazaar, which is why she designed the place like a festival, but her parents pushed her towards academics, and she yielded, never truly being happy. It’s the opposite of Eula, who rejected her parents ideas for her, while she shares similarities with Collei, who helps her overcome some of her insecurities. This characters working out perfectly, before already with Klee’s childlike behaviour (and a stern word from Kaeya) helping the brothers come together again, of course makes sense from the outside. If you wanna tell a story, you want your characters to overcome difficulties, and that is the easiest with supporting characters. But from an in story perspective, it’s suspicious. If I remember correctly, Lidyia put us in groups and told us where to go. She might’ve had some inside knowledge to figure out who to best put where.

It doesn’t help that Kokomi doesn’t completely trust her. She’s in the domain, because a watatsumi relic has been located in the domain, I’m guessing a hydro related one, and she’s searching for it. She thinks Lidyia is hiding something, because, among other things, she stayed away for longer periods of time. Lidyia has murmured at one point that just like Collei, she has high expectations of herself, and thus gets nervous, I’m wondering, what those expectations are for.

Kokomi also mentioned that before the flip, the domain wasn’t anything like this, but she didn’t elaborate. It makes you wonder, how different? Not those sweets everywhere, not the carnival theme? Not the rainforest feel? I hope we’ll get answers about this.

The last little thing is that Lidyia has an cooking stove and oven, and Eula complained that she should have told them earlier, so does the domain only have those two cooking appliances, and do the people here actually need food?

QUICK TELL ME UR HCS FOR CARTMAN AND/OR KYLE

UHHHH OK!

i've made some other hc posts before (here, here, and here) and also a post arguing why I think cartman's not a dom here lol. but here's a few more I guess??

kyle is slightly shorter than cartman throughout their childhood, maybe like an inch or inch and a half. when they get to middle school cartman hits puberty first and ends up taller than the other main 4 boys for like 2 months and he teases the FUCK out of all of them, calling them midgets or munchkins and being obnoxious as hell about it. but then one by one they all shoot up like bamboo and cartman ends up being the shortest out of all of them and it makes him VERY pissed off lmao

in fact he gets pissed enough for him to pull some scheme where he tries to surreptitiously wear stilts to school under his pants (which actually works for a while but then fails miserably cuz he isn't able to keep balance, falls over like an idiot, and exposes himself) or even trying to get that surgery where your legs get broken in several places and lengthened a few inches with metal screws (yes this is a real thing here's an article about it lol). ultimately I'd say as a full grown adult cartman ends up being like 5'7" or 5'8". he still tries to wear shoes with height inserts tho

kyle is the tallest out of the boys, like maybe hitting 6'1" or 6'2" by the end of high school, because I hc he's at least tall enough to dunk a basketball and that's around how tall you have to be to do that (at least according to google I don't play basketball myself)

speaking of puberty related stuff kyle ends up being a pretty hairy dude. like he can easily grow a full beard by the time he's 19 and has to shave pretty frequently to keep the stubble away. he tries to maintain the clean-shaven look for a while but halfway through college he gives up cuz it's too much work and he lets it grow out thinking he'll hate it but is too tired to care. but then he finds he actually likes how it looks on him and gets complimented on it a lot so he ends up keeping the beard pretty much the rest of his life. he also has a decent amount of chest hair, like maybe not quite as much as his dad but he's still got his genes lol

cartman on the other hand has pretty patchy facial hair so he can never really manage to grow a full beard, like maybe some stubble at best. (although I guess this isn't really a hc if you look at their post-covid designs? lol but i digress)

I think I stole this hc from someone but kyle's parents initially had some fertility issues when they were trying to have kids (like sheila had undiagnosed PCOS or something similar) so when sheila got pregnant with kyle they were both surprised and relieved. after kyle was born though they didn't want to go through the hoops and costs of fertility treatment again which is why they decided to adopt for their second kid

i wrote this in the tags somewhere on a previous post but cartman has a surprisingly nice singing voice esp as he gets older, at least when he's not trying to be obnoxious. he's a tenor with a kind of raspy, gruff quality to his voice. think like tom waits with a slightly higher range. he's got good vocal control and hella pipes so he can belt out crazy high notes that blow your panties clean off lmao. he sings for kyle at their wedding and kyle is genuinely touched and impressed. down the line he often asks cartman to be the one who sings lullabies for their kids cuz he likes listening to him too. of course cartman uses his powers for evil as well and often sings loud and obnoxious when he's cooking or in the car while driving just to piss kyle off when he's trying to concentrate on something. when their kids get old enough they join in too and kyle is LIVID

cartman's always gonna be a chunky dude but kyle does convince him to work out occasionally after they start dating. of course cartman doesn't go for the classic "it's good for you" schtick because he's heard it before a million times and doesn't give two shits. but what finally gets him to do it is that kyle casually mentions "y'know if you exercise and build up some muscle and stamina, you'll get a lot less tired during sex and be able to go for longer. also we can go together and you can ogle me in public as much as you want". needless to say cartman immediately goes out and buys a gym membership lol. also cartman finds out he really likes those fuckin jazzercise/zoomba classes cuz he can dance around like an idiot with no judgment. and he enjoys causing unnecessary drama by talking shit with the gym moms behind each others' backs

i'm sure I have more floating around in my brain but oh god this post is getting long so imma stop ahahaha 😅

Witchy review #2: Moon Magic

For my second review I thought I'd maybe go a bit controversial and pick a popular (or at least one that was heavily featured on witchtube) book that I didn't like. If this is your fave, and you don't want to read some asshole tear in to it, you should probably just stop reading here...

Author: Diane Ahlquist Length of the book: 6 h 43 min

Verdict: One of the worst books on magic I've read. Directly harmful in some places.

Would I recommend the book?: I mean... If you really LOVE the moon to the point where you want every single waking moment planned after what planet she's currently in... I guess? But I feel like there are other similar books out there (that doesn't recommend you postpone cancer operations until the moon is in waining...).

Description: I was planning on buying this one, then - thank the Gods - I found it on Storytel and listened to it before I threw away my money on That Woman. I was looking for a book that delwed a little deeper in to the symbolism the moon takes depending on which month it is, maybe a deep dive in to the moonphases etc. That was about 1/10 of the book. The rest was... Well, just sit down and get ready. Maybe hold someones hand, cause this shit gets scary at times…

After she - with as few sentenceses as possible - written two very short chapters about what I actually wanted to read about she had a chapter about the moons effect on nature, humans and animals. In the chapter she mixes in personal anecdotes that makes it clear that I would not want Diane in my life; like the fact that she tried to foist her theory about moonphases on to some poor interiour designer that she'd "discovered made much more inspired designs" during the full moon - as opposed to the rest of her designs that was "plain, and something easily done by oneself". Note: This interior designer was not pagan/ spiritual or anything of the sorts. Diane also bribed someone she was vaguely aquainted with to write a sleep journal for FIVE MONTHS, just to prove that the person slept best during the dark moon).

After this Diane wrote a chapter about the scientific facts about the moon. Let's be clear: In principle, I think this is a great idea, and I love mixing science with magick - one can never have to much knowledge imo! However, this chapter was so uninspiring and boring that I - and I'm really not joking here - lost my faith in magick and became atheist for about 20 minutes. Granted, I was hungry at the time, but how does something like that even happen??! I had (at the point of writing this review in my BoS) been a practising pagan for over 2 years, but her writing style was so boring that I lost my faith... This book is something else. After I'd eaten and contemplated some of John Becketts writings (which will probably be a future review) I realized that I'm still pagan, it's just that this woman is insane. With that in mind, I figured it would probably be good for a hate-listening.

Diane feels that you should plan your entire life after the moons phases (and their corresponding weekdays). Not only when to do spells or rituals - but when you should book a dentist appointment, ask someone out, buy a pet - check your moon calender first! Is it a waining moon on a Wednesday? Better not risk it. She writes - in all seriousness - that she thinks you should consult a professional astrologist before you buy a pet.

She brings up how the moon can "help you loose weight" if you only "start your diet in the right phase of the moon", which is something she writes about in total 10 times, of which she at one time characterises it as "smaller moon, smaller waistline". As someone who's recovered from eating disorder, and since then has been an advocate for Health At Every Size - Yuck! I wanted a book about the moon, I don't remember inviting Diane to talk about weight loss?? At one point in the book she claims that the moonphase, combined with the weekday, would decide the gender of the baby. (Doubtful, but ok...) Later she writes about a lithuanian folktradition about the making of babies and comments “no doubt this was to make the boys stardy and the girls slim and delicate”. And why wouldn't one want a stardy girl or a delicate boy? Way to go in the crusty gendernorms D! On the topic of children btw; Diane thinks that the moonfases are so important that you should teach your children about them, so that they can schedule when to meet friends, study for tests etc according to the phases of the moon.

The worst part in the book is what D recommends when it comes to using the moonphases for medicinal procedures. Gods dammit. Anyways. Of course she writes that if it's a life-threatening emergency one should go through with the necessary operations, but in all other cases one should adapt to - you guessed it - the moonphases. One should never voulontarily get an operation when Mercury is in retrograde - which btw is 3 times a year, 3 weeks at a time... So for over two months every year no-one should get surgery unless it's an emergency... Seems like a healthy belief... Diane also want you to keep track on what zodiac the moon is in; this is because the zodiacs represent different parts of the body; If the moon is in the zodiac for the bodypart that you're operating, that means the operation isn't going to go well - you should probably postpone it. She justifice the claim with "we've known this since Ancient Times", and uses in this argument a new definition of "known" for me; since that theory has been completely disproven since the 1800s (at one time we "knew" that bloodletting was the cure-all for any deasise, but I guess that one isn't centered enough in astrology for her). The part about how medicine should be planned in accordance with the moon is so important for her that she brings it up two times in her book. In the latter one she claims that one should schedule when to remove fucking SKINCANCER AND TUMOURS after the moonphases (in waining, since that is when to get rid of things). I would urge anyone that has cancerous growth tho remove it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, since delaying it can be FUCKING DEADLY.

Nearing the end of the book D walks us through the chinese zodiacs. All different versions, connected to positive/ negative, what animal and what element every year from 1930 to 2044 has. The does not explain anything about how these circumstances affects anything, she only lists them. Like - as a somewhat made up example (since I don't have the enery to look it up) - "1954: Rooster in wood, positive"... Okayy?? And since her spann is huge, this section goes on forever. I understand that isn't as dangerous as recommending to postpone surgeries, but it's also time that I will never get back, and I'd like you to spare a thought for me who had to listen to all of this.

When you see a book named "Moon Magic" one would think that it would be a pagan/ secular witch who wrote the book, and that it would at least share some of your worldviews, but that's a no from me Sir. It feels more like a wannabe hippie appropriates pagan and native american beliefs, and wrote a book about it for those cashinos babey! Because of course she uses the word "smudging" instead of smoke cleansing, but also take it one step further with the sentence “Did your ex just move out? Give it a smudge!” A smudge of what, Diane? More bullshit? Okay, let's go! The Law of Attraction is definetly real (and not remotely an ablephobic, classist grift to make people complacent): So be sure to always think positive thoughts! Don't ever complain or be negative; That's how you bring on misfortune! And heres the thing (sssschhhhhh, it's a secret!); If you make a "vision board" and write extremely clearly and focus on it every day... It will Magically just pop up one day! But make sure that jus extra super very clear - otherwise you might end up with a yellow car instead of a red one (the horror!) - but you will Absolutely get a Mercedes as long as you focus enough, don't experience negative emotions, and use the power of the moon to get it!

Lastly she writes about setting up an altar for the moon, where you are supposed to put something that represents divinity to you. She gives us some different possibilities here, like: 1. The cross, 2. A picture of Jesus, 3. A statue of Buddha, or even... (her words, not mine) 4. A God or Goddess. Wow, Diane, do you mean that I can view divinity in the same way as those who originally worshipped the moon? Thank you, I feel so honored <3

ok just finished volume 2... lots of thoughts

First off: character deaths

Eddie’s death was heavily foreshadowed throughout the season so I wasn’t surprised by any means but man was it still devastating

Dr. Brenner did not deserve that much screen time in his dying minutes, esp with that circling overhead shot, my god I was just so ready for him to bite the dust

Eddie should’ve gotten the amount of screen time Brenner did tbh

Jason’s death actually spooked me but it’s definitely one way to wrap up a sub-plot

I was fully expecting Murray, Dmitri, and Owens to bite the dust as well (though I doubt Murray will be around for much longer considering how useful of a plot device he’s been)

The plot holes

I blame this mainly on the fact this series is designed for easy binge watching and so the number of episodes are cut down

But I will be honest I was not impressed with 001′s appearance at all throughout the season

There was no foreshadowing to his existence- whereas the mindflayer took three seasons to make a full, physical appearance after seasons of references and build-up

His backstory is fine for the plot but it just feels so rushed

ok maybe if you stretch it, there were a few small hints about him (subtle clock chimes and continuity errors from season 1) but it’s ridiculous of how little there is to work with

Why is Will’s connection to the mind flayer now being played as if he has a connection to 001, it was very clear that Will was only connected with the mind flayer’s consciousness (but I’m sure next season they’ll find another excuse to cover up this plot hole)

Also I feel like Sullivan would have been on the West coast team’s tail after picking up El, seriously where is this guy

btw how did the jock guys know where Lucas was just bc some random guy walking his dog saw Luca’s sister? Unless I’m missing something it just felt very out of the blue

Predictions for next season

Very likely we’ll be seeing Owens again next season with Sullivan

please end the love triangle drama already, let it end where Robin was patting Steve’s back while the other two were reuniting bc that was hilarious and I’m very glad I noticed that small detail

but I would also like Jonathon to recognize that Steve has grown and matured, no need for them to be buddies but I would like to see that acknowledgement

More Jonathon and Will bonding scenes bc the talk they had is certainly going to led to more similar moments (side note, I’m actually quite glad that scene wasn’t Will coming out but rather Jonathon letting him know that he always has someone in his corner to talk to which is so much more beneficial to his character. But I am hoping that when the day comes where Will is revealed as queer --he is so fricken queer coded you cannot tell me it’s up for interpretation-- it’s on his terms and not something forced and rushed to get that diversity point checked off)

in a way this goes for Robin as well since she’s the only open gay character, she’s already come out to one of the main cast (said scene btw is my #2 favorite moment in the whole show) but I really don’t want her sexuality to be exposed for just character conflict and drama

Will’s role in the story becomes much more involved like he was in season 2

idk what’s going to happen to Max but poor girl needs a break

If Joyce or Steve dies I will burn the Netflix studio to the ground.

1x09: oh nooooo, brian's daddy issues.

(randomly: back when napster was a thing, aka back when s1 aired, I had a copy of that badly drawn boy song on my computer. [eta: the one from the funeral episode, not this one] it's one of the few mp3s that survived multiple hard drive crashes, etc. not many other tracks from qaf did, but that one did.)

also randomly: this intro song/credit sequence did not age well, not even for an old gay club kid like moi. most of the EDM tracks in the show are my heart and joy (darude!! FIGHT ME MILLENIALS), but that title track song? nah.

el oh el, remember when there were sex chatrooms? a/s/l anyone? hello windows 95.

that woody's scene, where Justin says hey to the gang and then walks off - because he's not there just for brian, he's also there to get laid by people other than brian. <3 so sassy. never gonna get over justin actually enjoyed the club scene and anonymous sex, at least some of the time. never gonna believe that what he wanted was a marriage like his mother's. there's a nice middle ground that tragically, they never found. but they could! gdi THEY COULD OK-- anyway

Mel and Brian at the hospital: Brian immediately insists Mel has as much right to be there / is as much a parent to Gus as he is. they might not like each other much, but he does appreciate her upset as real and to be respected. I would bet that if there was a way for her to be a third parent he'd be totally fine with it, it's giving his own rights up he doesn't want to do!

randomly, why does brian have such beautiful table settings? did he get an interior designer he fucked to choose his kitchen shit? it isn't as if he eats at home anything aside from takeout boxes, without somebody else forcing him

michael's social climbing lessons, EL OH EL. luv justin's digs

also, michael's dinner party with dr. dave: he's so worried about propriety here, and then s5 he hosts exactly the same officious party. tldr michael is a dick. or, no. he's just. easily impressed and has to throw his weight around? I guess? to feel important.

the amount michael changes between s1 and s5, ugh, michael.

linds and mel trying to get justin out of the room before they ask for brian's parental rights: lindsay knowwwwws that he's gonna defend brian when even brian isn't gonna. bitch.

awwwwwwwwwwwwww, Brian helping with the SATs! and then brian opening up about his dad even a little bit. and he's not really mocking when he says it either, not really. he's a bit deprecating, but still pretty open. of course he walks away almost immediately, but still, he does it

brian and his dad: it's just. very very hard to watch. "we're a lot alike, you know. we weren't meant to settle down." it's so messy, and complicated, and I don't have the knowledge or experience to like, dig into it? but they portray it, the complexity of bad parental relationships, really well

also you can so tell michael's done this with brian so often, with his dad. :/ the so-drunk-he's-almost crying, the useless comfort. note to self, does anyone else EVER see Brian cry in the entire show?

...and then there's a whole bunch more of the episode with dr. dave and mel and linds, meh.

1x10: aka the one with the hottest sex scene in the entire show?? yes??? okay, maybe not the total hottest, but close. IT'S NEW YORK BABY. wait, is it?

oh yeah, lindsay manipulating melanie yet again to do exactly what lindsay wants instead of compromising! she wants to stay at home even though they planned for something else (a nanny). [randomly, wtf else was gui except basically a nanny+ ? way to be a hypocrite, lindsay.]

ahahahahaha daphne, meet brian. "I'm never getting married. why be tied down?" justin has a type, too.

justin testing brian's boundaries is, in a way, similar to how brian tests michael's boundaries. hilariously, brian (and later justin) are healthier about setting them than michael ever is. (this is a comment thinking about justin running away to see if anybody (brian) cares enough to follow.)

Jenn, oh Jenn. the fact that justin keeps giving her chances is pretty impressive, and speaks to how big of a heart he has, ngl

justin's "I'm so sorry" after the fact actually sort of proves brian's "sorry is bullshit", in a way

michael's reluctance to move in with dr. dave: nobody is actually listening to mikey's worry, they're all just assuming it's because of Brian. But Mikey also has a valid point, they don't know each other that well, they don't know how to work together, michael doesn't know if he loves dave. it's moving pretty fucking quickly. the brunch thing about sharing your life -- it's worth it, but not if you aren't sure! jeez.

mysterious marilyn: problematic in ways, but also great

daphne confronting brian is hilarious. deb confronting brian isn't as hilarious. (random deb rant incoming? I guess?)

I mean yes, a good part of why I don't like deb's treatment of brian is because that sort of overbearing love is exactly the opposite of what I ever want out of a parental figure (in fact if somebody acted toward me the way deb acted to brian I'd probably never speak to them again no matter how much I loved them). but also -- again, this is my lens and my childhood coming into it, but -- it doesn't give justin the respect he deserves either. it's brian's fault justin left home. it's brian's fault justin lost his virginity and decided the clubs were for him. hi, no, it was Justin who chose this, and putting it all on Brian isn't fair to *Justin* and his ability to know his own mind. (As an independent teenager that moved out at seventeen, for good or ill -- I don't like how they, aside from Brian, don't give Justin credit for making his own choices.)

...otoh, yes, it pretty much is brian's fault justin ran away to new york. so.

ted: "thank you arthur miller" and only brian laughs - they have the same sense of humour. I love how the show carefully and subtly shows that the gang all have reasons they like each other. some of them are shallow: ted and brian have the same sense of humour. emmett and brian have the same "be out and proud" mentality. some are deeper. but they all have connections. and they're DIFFERENT connections.

brian in the car: I cannot get over how hilariously infuriated brian is with the three stooges

dave at linds and mel's: boy, they're pretending to be the perfect couple when they're anything but, way to buy into image over genuineness. This thin veneer of "we're such a great couple" drives me bananas.

Brian: "I know I can be shitty to you [Mikey] sometimes. it's only because I know that you'll love me no matter what." god, there's a reason that brian is in such freefall in s5 once him and michael start fighting: on top of everything else going on (aging, him and justin, everything), the only person in his life he trusted to be there, suddenly has shown he won't be. the one person he trusted to always love him now wants nothing to do with him! so why would anyone else?

awwyeah, the hottest sex scene they filmed. is it? there are so many to choose from

of course beforehand, brian tells justin exactly how it's gonna be, like he's an adult.

okay the sex. the SEX. as much as I love happy endings for these two that give them a deeper connection you cannot deny that a huge chunk of the appeal on both sides is raw sex appeal. like look at them, they are desperate for each other, hungry. that isn't romance, that's fucking. and that's okay! it's okay that they connect by fucking! it's good!

ugh and now we're back to dr. dave. *skips* eh, that's the end!

I'm trying to give Dr. Dave a more fair shot this watch-through. I forgot, though: I don't even dislike him? he just bores me. which is worse than dislike, narratively!

Day 16: The Known Ones (I've been on a bit of a creative binge so I was able to redirect my juices to another entry. I knew immediately who to write about since this guy was always my favorite of the Eden demon designs being the first one and the one most evocative of the concept. I did create some stuff on the fly but he was always meant to be a fighter. The best part is that I even had time to draw him. Important thing to note is that he can actually switch which side of his body the head is at.

Really? You want to interview me? Well, okay. Name’s Osciphela but most people just call me Ossy. I’m an Oscaecilia ochrocephala Eden demon. Yeah, they haven’t come with a street name for my kind yet. Molded by the Lord Taxternal himself. But again, why would you want to interview me? I’m just shopping. Wait, are you certified to talk about that? Huh, you actually managed to get a certification of approval. It’d take a lot of memory dredging for me to even find the last time I’ve seen one of these. So anyways, what do you wanna know about the Ring? How am I affiliated? Buddy, I’ve been the champion for 67 years. My faces have glued to that wall of fame. How’d I discover it? Well I don’t know how similar my story is, but one time I was doing my normal browsing here in the Dark Market when I noticed a little imp trying to steal my goods. So I tackled that bastard and we landed in between these stalls. Then after brushing myself off, the imp grew 20 extra feet! It turned into this hulking monstrosity that still had all the stuff I got, taunting me to grab it. Things got kinda hazy after that since all I saw was red but next thing I knew I had my stuff back and there was a crater in the ground. That’s when the monster congratulated me and introduced himself. His name was Cross and he was a major player in the Court of Wrath. Apparently he decided to start up a fighting ring just for the hell of it and wanted good contenders for his starting lineup. I still don’t know why he singled me out. I only have Wrath as a secondary sin, but he saw something I didn’t in that haze of anger. Turns out I managed to organically obtain an inner wrath spirit, which is apparently more of an older generation ability. So I’ve been headlining ever since. I’ve taken down oni, dragons, there was even that one time in the challenge round that I actually wrested myself off a kelpie. Oh no, the Ring is open for anyone who finds it and feels they got a good chance against any of us. Heck, if you managed to get in with Cross I feel you might have a chance in there too. That’s ok, considering who you’re working for I think you’d rather wrestle with a theorem than an opponent. It was nice talking to you anyways. Here, have some tickets. Maybe you could come by and watch. Next week, I’m gonna be going up against a yeti! Well, see you later.

(Report: Ossy was considerably cordial which did not align with my expectations. The Ring also proves to be a phenomena with a greater level of reach than I predicted as well. I believed it was merely centered in the Court of Wrath’s inner circle. I am in definite need to schedule an interview with this Cross character. Would it be possible to arrange that? We could even make it an event and use the tickets I was given. We could use the break. But I feel this testimony will be a worthwhile entry for the Catalog.
