Nyx's Favorite and Not-So-Much - Kinda of Snippet I guess
Ugh, this is silly and dumb, but I needed to write it for some reason. My first time posting this kinda of thing, so not really sure how this all work. Also, warnig not-really-mor-or-amren-friendly-but-its-mostly-giggles (also english is not my first language, so bear with me here)
His first steps were towards Nesta's direction. His first words were “Nessa” and “ant”, those which Nyx didn’t stop repeating for days.
In no time, “Wann’ Nessa” or “Wann ant Nessa” became the highest demands in the residence of the High Lord and High Lady of the Night Court.
Feyre tried not to feel too bitter about it. Rhysand tried not to become too exasperated about it.
Nyx favorite person in the world was his aunt Nesta, and it showed.
He liked the rest of his family alright. He laughed at Cassian's silly faces and noises, slept soundly in Elain's arms, and even seemed to enjoy Azriel's quiet company.
But none of that mattered once Nyx's little blue eyes caught sight of Nesta walking into the room. There was no one else but his aunt, who gladly received and returned all of his attention.
Never mind that he mostly referred to her as an ant. The Inner Circle knew better than to delve into this fact for too long before passing Nyx to his favorite person in the world. If the little prince of the Night Court was not passed to his aunt in a matter of seconds the moment he saw her, he would wail. Loudly.
Nyx favorite person was Nesta and there was nothing anyone could do change his strong baby opinions on it, much to Mor's dismay.
Because Nyx doesn't particularly like Morrigan; not like the others anyway.
He wouldn't laugh or even smile at anything she did - no matter how hard Mor tried. Nyx wouldn't ask for to be held by or even look at her direction, even if she was holding something he liked. One time, Mor insisted on being the one to feed him during lunchtime, and Nyx refused to eat the rest of the baby food as soon as she held up the spoon.
She would go to kiss him, and Nyx immediately turned his head away. Would wriggle his way out of her hold when she picked him up, if not straight up puke on her, even if his parents had already burped him. It happened so often, that it became too obvious to ignore it, especially with Morrigan's growing frustrated attempts to change the situation.
"Maybe it's my perfume, and he does not like the smell of it!"
"Mor, I doubt that the baby doesn't like your perfume." Feyre tried to reason with her. "Just give him some time, I'm sure he's just not accustomed to you yet." And to that Elain made an innocent observation that this reason was 'odd' considering Mor was there when Nyx was born, which left some people to grimace while others snickered at Feyre hard glare to her sister.
It did not get better as Morrigan started to then be compared to Amren too, whom Nyx does not like at all.
When the ancient female approaches, his soft toddler features turn into a scowl. He was held at most twice by her, both times leading to Nyx crying strongly as if she had pinched him hard. On his first anniversary, the birthday boy kept throwing his new gifts in Amren's direction, as if they were its whole purpose.
Biting, spitting, hitting, and once even growling; Nyx had made it very clear that he did not like the Night Court second in command. If Amren was around, he would immediately become testy. And the feeling seemed to be growing mutual.
"Kids can be quite sensitive, I heard," Varian commented once, boucing a giggling Nyx on his knee. "Maybe he can tell that Amren is not fond of stinky, small, cutie babies, right buddy?" The Adriata prince's voice pitched higher notes as he spoke, eliciting a small shout of excitement from Nyx. Meanwhile, Amren schooled the pair of princes from the other side of the room, having been relocated there because, of course, Nyx was also in the room.
"But then why doesn't he like me?" Mor whined, watching Varian with jealousy. "I have nothing but my love to give him!"
"Maybe that's why he's not interested," Nesta added just a little bit under her breath. Mor's eyes shot back daggers at her, while Azriel and Cassian tried to contain their laughter, and Feyre immediately jumped in to avoid any conflict from unfolding.
"Amren, it's true. If only you warmed up a little bit more to Nyx, I'm sure he wouldn't be so wary of you," Feyre chimed in. To which Amren shot back, "Like I care what a baby thinks of me!"
The room erupted into laughter at Amren's retort, with Nyx joining in with his infectious giggles.
So, obviously, it's not supposed to end here, but I'm far back behind my actual priorities and responsibilities, so let's pretend that for now this dosen't suck cool? cool.
I just really wanted a story of nyx loving his best aunt nesta, and thought it would be funny if he didnt really care for the characters i also dont really care amren and mor. though i do feel bad cuz this seems to be more nesta centric, so some people might get disapointed. sorry about that.

"Well, we can do Akitos song first, and then..." you trailed on, describing your plan to the idols. After you finished, another question popped in your head, "Ah! Do you guys have a Twitter or Instagram or something?"
"Now that I think of it, having a social media account would be a very good idea," Toya turned on his phone and quickly made a Twitter account. He showed his phone to you, "Do you think this looks good? We need a profile picture and a banner. And we need to post some pictures. I have a friend who's a photographer, maybe we could ask her for some."
"Good idea, Toya!!" Tsukasa exclaimed.
"We're going to need to get some outfits if we're doing a photoshoot, right? I guess our friends really are useful, because I'm friends with someone who can design us outfits." Rui added.
"Great! But what outfits do we want..."

1) favourite fic you wrote this year
Looked through and discovered that I wrote 20 fics this year, which is wild, even if the majority are oneshots so... certainly have my pick an picks for various reasons!
These are the ones, probably:
This Fall Might Just Kill Me is 10.2k of Callum trying and failing to get purified, post-S4, and was one of my favourites and one I return to pretty often for a personal re-read. Very Callum/Rayla centric, some magic worldbuilding, and lots of devotion. Oneshot
Twice as Many Stars is 8.7k of Sir Sparklepuff is an existential horror story, the fic, featuring more religious trauma allegory than expected. Also a oneshot
Teach Me How to Name the Bigger Light a fanon s6 currently of 5 out of roughly 26-30ish chapters, and at 41k and counting. Main characters are Callum, Ezran, Rayla, and Claudia in about that order. It's a lot of fun, and a lot of angst
3) favourite line/scene this year
"If it's not you, it's not anyone" has one of my favourite love / Rayllum confessions I've ever written. I also loved this line from a (now non canon) fic regarding Kpp'Ar's feelings on Callum/people "There are many ways to mend broken things, if you can". I deeply enjoyed Callum threatening Nyx over Rayla's safety in this pre-S5 fic and this piece of description as well: "Callum knelt down in front of her, her cheeks heating as he reached up and pried the shawl away again, looking at the way the scar crept over her shoulder like dark ivy" + this Rayllum passage from "this fall just might kill me" (edit in the link):
“It’s because if I die,” he said, squeezing her hands. “I want you to be the last thing I ever see. And you are good enough, Rayla. You are . I don’t care if you destroy me. I don't care if we make each other better or worse or both. I love you. I’ll fall for you every time. I’ll choose to, I’ll choose you, every time.”
I also really enjoyed writing Callum and Lujanne in "older but just never wiser" because it was interesting to revisit their dynamic now that well, Callum is older, powerful, and much more jaded/angry.
Drabbles wise this Rayllum one has one of my favourite metaphoric uses I've ever been able to pull off and I always love 1) writing messy Ezran and 2) Ezran being a little done with his brother's less than favourable methods, so this one for Ezran's "underhanded" comment for sure
But if I had to pick a singular exchange fic wise, it is of course the end of the Callum and Ezran fight from Ch4 of fanon s6, because it was a line that hurt me so much I was sad the rest of the day, and I also thought of it before writing a decent chunk of the boys' argument, so making sure it felt earned and hit the way I wanted to was very fun if also angsty. I apologize in advance lmao:
Only this time Callum scoffed, peeling away, his green eyes glinting. “Yeah, right.”
“I am your king and I forbid you—”
“You don’t get to forbid me from doing anything because guess what?” A manic gleam overtook his brother’s face. “I don’t fucking care what you think, nevermind what you fucking decree. I’m freeing Runaan, and that’s final.”
“Then you can do it without my help,” Ezran said with a ragged breath. “Because I am not giving you my seal.”
Callum stared at him with cold eyes. “Dad would be so disappointed in you.”
But this time Ezran was ready for the blow, as he said, “Well at least I called him Dad."

12) favourite character to write about this year
Given my above answers it's clearly been Callum, but Ezran has probably been my standout in "teach me how to name the bigger light," easy, even if I think Rayla's POV is going to sneak up on me more and more as the fic goes on, especially once we reach the chapters at the Starscraper. I've also written a somewhat decent amount of Kpp'Ar POV this year, I loved writing Claudia in "twice as many stars" in particular. Everyone? Can I say everyone?
But if I had to pick, Callum. (Non fic wise it's all the OG chosen one kiddos running around, I love 'em.)
14) a fic you didn't expect to write
Many days of angry muttering and half concocted plot points predated "teach me how to name the bigger light" and I am still slightly internally salty about it. However, it does feel good to have one last fanon season foray, especially since it's been four years since the last one, and I've been having a fucking blast, lemme tell you.
21) most memorable comment/review
This is hard because I do cherish every review and kind word I get (as well as anyone who leaves notes in their bookmarks) but there are some standouts. Basically anything from twice as many stars is fair game as well as this review on fanon s6, cause I'm gonna go the typical write route and say the long bois make my day / when readers catch onto the smaller details, that's absolutely my favourite:

24) favourite fic you read this year
Have already done some TDP fic recs here so I'm gonna focus on what's in my bookmarks for now! I mostly read LOZ or SOC fics when I'm not making my way through TDP backlog, but this one for Six of Crows centreing on Inej and Kaz called High Wire Act stood out to me and I'm really enjoying "for the children we couldn't be" for TDP because it's trio centric and the exact kind of time travel fuckery I like to read.
This is tricky, though, cause I find most often the favourite things I participate in is like, the stuff I write because it's what I want to read and most tailored to my specific tastes? I also just don't read as much fic as I could / have in the past and it's hard to pick Just One Fic, y'know? So cop out answer, maybe, but this is the one!

Why is Elain’s book the next book?
Because SJM wants to write it. That’s it. That’s the reason.
She wants to write the Archeron Sister Trilogy. With each sister telling her own story and living through her own story.
She is not writing a Gwyneth Berdara story, before she writes an Elain Archeron story.
She is not skipping Feyre’s sister for the sake of a secondary character in Nesta’s story. It will not happen.
I am going to venture a guess that Nesta has never been SJM’s favourite character to write, to delve into. Hence, the results were....scattered. She got what she wanted to give Nesta--a sense of purpose, alternative family, Cassian, a healing arc. Nevertheless, I don’t see SJM needed to write another Nesta-centric story, because of course Gwyn is associated with Nesta, and at this point, I feel that they will both remain present, but on the periphery.
Elain, is different though. It’s the same Elain that SJM claimed would be her best friend. Elain, it seems, is someone SJM actually likes and WANTS to write.
The same Elain whose story has been in development for years. At least 3-4 years by now, and will be 5, by the time the book rolls around. SJM is not giving up 5 years of planning, drafting, writing, just to switch it, for no reason what so ever.
Elain, who is the only one who still retains her Cauldron powers. Elain, who is a Seer. Elain, who can locate the 4th Trove. Elain, who is connected with numerous Courts--Night Court, potentially Hewn City, Spring Court, Day Court, and even the Human Lands. Elain, who is a mate to a High Lord’s son (technically, TWO High Lords), and who is the object of love and affection to one of the central characters in all the books. That character, just like Elain, is loved by the writer herself. And despite what anyone says, the bottom line is, those two characters are getting each other. Because SJM wants them to be with one another.
Both of those characters have been intertwined throughout the narrative in various ways, and furthermore, both are still very unknown, to this day. It’s obviously done on purpose. The revelations would occur side by side. As we learn more about Azriel, or Elain, we’ll understand how they are amalgamated within the tale, and how their powers and their backstories, as well as their journeys, connect further. Because they do. Again, arguments aside, both Azriel and Elain are two sides of the same coin--light and dark, death and life, both veiled in shadows right now.
Btw, as a side note, SJM never brings up male-to-female oral sex without that couple being endgame. Sorry, that’s just how it is. Feysand, Nessian, Elriel--they all follow the same sexual pattern. If he doesn’t want to eat you out, he is just not into you. SJM always places great emphasis on female pleasure and males being wild and hungry for that specific act. If a male is not wild and hungry for that specific act, then it’s a problem.
Now, people LOVE to bring up Chaol. Well, look, Chaol got his own book!
Sure. But Chaol was there from the very first TOG book, even before Rowan or anyone else. Hence, Chaol, in some ways is akin to Lucien, or even Tamlin. Hence, following this pattern, Lucien will get a book first, before we move on to secondary characters. What’s more, Chaol had a specific task assigned to him, as well as his injury to cure. Chaol already had a built-in story.
Elain, of course, has a built-in story, as well as Azriel. We already know that Koschei has an unhealthy amount of interest in our beloved shadowsinger. Elain is brimming with undiscovered, unrealized powers. We already know that Rhys is primed and ready to use Elain and her power for whatever he needs. We know that she is willing and ready to delve into them, and use them for however he needs her to.
Rhysand is not sending Gwyneth on a mission. Not when she can’t even leave the Library. Not when she doesn’t report to him in any manner. Azriel is not taking Gwyneth on a mission either. These books are still Rhysand’s books--the last book will still be Night Court-centric, dealing with his last brother and his last sister-in-law, and the last (for the moment) bad guy, Koschei, and the last (for the moment) war potential.
Now, what to do if you love Gwyn Berdara?
I suspect that she will play a role in future books. Because, SJM knows that this world is a money-maker for her, and I think that she enjoys writing it. She also sees Gwyn’s popularity. I would vouch that she is setting up a new generation of characters for future books.
The Valkyrie will have to be realized and they have great potential. But, let’s face it, they are not ready. By the time the next book rolls around, Nesta is not charging forth, leading an army. Neither is Gwyn. But, they will.
Also, since potentially, Gwyn MAY BE related to either Tamlin and/or Lucien, she will probably solidify her role in Lucien’s book.
Nyx is too young to be of consequence right now, so SJM can’t build any stories around him. Therefore, for future books, she needs a new new crop of characters, which are new, but not too new. Maybe more priestesses? Balthazar? Other characters that will certainly be introduced. They will have further stories to tell, but not before Elain is the main character. Just like Chaol, or Lucien, within the next two book, Gwyn will a built-in story as well.
This is not a pro- or against- anyone post. It’s about narrative logic.
This very long post is in response to the same question that I get frequently--why is Elain’s book next? Why isn’t Gwyn’s book next? And other versions of the same inquiry. So this is the answer, as I interpret everything we know so far.

Fanfic writer ask game: 4, 14, 17, 18, 19
4) What fic of yours were you surprised by how popular it was?
Any of them, tbh? "We Are All Misfits (Living in a World on Fire)", maybe? I think it might be because it's one of my few that has Noctis (or any of the Chocobros, really) in it, but it has always had a surprisingly high number of hits and kudos. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed writing it greatly, and it involved a lot of headcanons and scenes I love, but I wouldn't have thought it to be as popular, relatively.
14) What is something you wrote in a fic that you are hoping readers picked up on but you don't know if they did? And/or, what is something that you were excited that readers did pick up on?
There are several things, but of course I can't think of them now. Maybe how Drautos thought Cor was coming back to help him in "At His Master's Gate" when it was all an accident? Drautos really has a very high opinion of Cor and his strength, moral and physical. Or also in "Smoke and Mirrors", no one commented on the fact that Mors' face is literally all over the panic room, which amused me greatly. Perhaps I just have an odd sense of humor there.
Keeping in "Smoke and Mirrors", I am always delighted when people call Drautos out for the lies he tells himself, especially about his glaives. I'm so glad his hypocrisy shows through. I also was very happy when people recognized Nyx & Cor were making baklava in "How Sweet It Is" chapter 2! Again, I feel there are a lot of these, but my brain is not working well enough to remember them all.
17) Do you have any wips that you can tell us about? What are you most excited for in you wip?
Aside from the incomplete ones from Nyx Week? I feel you know about most of them, honestly. I'm very excited to continue the Time Travel AU and the Messenger AU; I have a lot of ideas how those will go.
WIPs most people don't know about? The Cor-centric Daemon AU inspired by your headcanons is super exciting, honestly. I have it 2/3 done. Now just to write the final chapter! After I do work on all the new WIPs I have...
18) What's the most obscure thing you've researched for a fic?
The first thing that comes to mind is mattress and bedding flammability standards and how they are tested for different kinds of contact with flames (smoldering cigarette butts vs actual fire), which ended up not being used! Well, I guess they were used enough to tell me that I didn't want Nyx to set fire to a mattress he was lying in because it was too dangerous.
19) What is some random info you happen to have that you used in a fic?
My entire life is random info, so this is actually hard as well. Um...I worked in a place that had walk-in freezers and fridges, so I used a lot of that experience for Turn To (though I also did do research on them to figure out details). They have a lot of safety features to keep you from getting stuck inside, so it always kinds of annoys me when they show people getting locked in them on TV shows, which is why I had a heavy cart blocking the door instead of any actual lock. (can confirm from experience, a cart in front of the door will indeed stop it from opening.

Fox - Chapter 15
Previously on Fox:
(Y/n) smirks at the redhead over her shoulder as she walks out of the gym. (Y/n) laughs a little as the lights come on and the woman settles down at her desk again, pulling the sketch and a pencil back towards her.
Natasha's POV - Probably Not Expecting this, huh?
(Y/n) and I spent the rest of the week together. She took me out to eat, and showed me around Malibu. I find myself sometimes wondering if maybe someday, we could be more than friends. Even though I had been taught that love was for children, I was beginning to feel a connection with (Y/n) that I had never had with anyone else. I found myself staring at her sometimes when she was turned away from me, and I had the strangest feeling that (Y/n) was doing the same.
Saturday morning, (Y/n) wakes me up, and tells me to get dressed. I pull on a pair of black jeans, a green shirt, and the emerald green leather jacket (Y/n) had let me borrow the first day I had arrived.
"Pack your stuff," (Y/n) says, and I send her a questioning look. "We're going on a field trip," (Y/n) says cheerfully, and I send her a half smile.
(Y/n) tosses me a suitcase and I catch it.
"I'll be right back," (Y/n) says, darting out of the room.
I throw all the clothes and things that I had acquired at (Y/n)'s house, and about a minute later, (Y/n) comes back in the room, throwing a granola bar at me. I catch it and open it before taking a bite. I watch as (Y/n) pulls out a suitcase out of her closet before folding up a few pairs of jeans, a few shirts, and gently laying a few leather jackets into the suitcase. She zips it up before drumming her fingers on the top of the suitcase. (Y/n) walks over, pressing the button in her closet before descending down into her secret lab/ gym area.
The elevator comes back up and I decide to join the (H/C) haired woman. I walk over to the closet and press the button. I descend down into the room. I walk over to see (Y/n) rummaging through her desk drawer before she pulls out a sketch book and a few art pencils and standing up.
"Do you draw?" I ask, and (Y/n) turns around.
"It's more of sketching new invention ideas," (Y/n) says, "like this one," I walk closer to see the drawing she had been sketching the other day.
"What is this?" I ask, studying the sketch.
"My Dad has this Arc Reactor at his work and everyone has been trying to make a more portable version," (Y/n) explains. "I've been able to make a smaller design, but it's hard to store so much energy into such a small volume," (Y/n) looks up from the sketch, looking a little sheepish. "Sorry, I guess I'm rambling," (Y/n) turns and places the sketch into the desk drawer.
"Don't be," I tell (Y/n) and she turns, her head tilted to the side a little. "You're smart, own it," (Y/n) sends me a warm smile.
"Thanks, Nat, that means a lot," (Y/n) says, and I send her a smile back.
"No problem," I say and (Y/n)'s eyes sparkle lightly.
"Hey, (M/n)?" (Y/n) says, turning to face her desk.
"Yes, boss," the A.I. responds.
"Can you back up all the files onto my laptop?" (Y/n) asks.
"No problem," the A.I. answers. "Give it just a few minutes."
"Right, I'll be back in a moment," (Y/n) turns around, a serious expression on her face. "I need coffee," she says and I let out a short laugh. "Come on!" (Y/n) says, running to the elevator. I follow slowly, amused at the annoyed expression spreading across (Y/n)'s face. (Y/n) groans, walking over and dragging me across to the elevator.
The elevator rises up and (Y/n) darts out of the room, and I follow, barely keeping up with the woman sprinting down the stairs and towards the kitchen. When I walk into the kitchen, I see (Y/n) standing in front of the coffee maker. She pulls out two travel mugs before pouring half the pot into one, and the other half into the other. I lean against the counter as (Y/n) opens the fridge and pulls out creamer and some sugar out of the pantry.
"Creamer?" (Y/n) asks, sliding the creamer across the counter.
"Naw, I prefer straight black," I say, and (Y/n) stares incredulously at me.
She then spoons some sugar into her coffee and stirring it up. "First rule of this household, never, and I repeat, never, leave the coffee pot empty or suffer the consequences," (Y/n) says, placing the coffee pot back on the coffee maker and starting it up.
"So," I ask, once we return to her room, (Y/n) taking a sip of her coffee, "where is this field trip too?"
"It's a surprise," (Y/n) says simply.
"I don't like surprises," I say.
"Maybe you'll like this one," (Y/n) says, a teasing look in her pretty (E/C) eyes, walking towards the closet and disappearing, then returning a minute later with a laptop, sketchbook and drawing pencils in her hands. She puts the laptop, sketchbook, and drawing pencils into her (F/C) suitcase, before walking over pulling a guitar case from her closet and then pulling her galaxy painted guitar off the wall and placing it in the case.
"Let's go!" (Y/n) says cheerfully, putting her guitar case on her back and grabbing her suitcase and coffee cup before I grab mine suitcase and coffee cup before following her out of the room.
The two of us walk downstairs where I see a brown haired man standing in front of the coffee maker. I hadn't met this man yet, but I figured that it was (Y/n)'s dad.
"Morning, Dad," (Y/n) says cheerfully and the man turns to her.
"Hi, sweetheart," he says, his eyes sparkling slightly. "Leaving now?" he asks and (Y/n) nods.
"I'll visit again soon," (Y/n) says and he nods.
"I'll see you soon," (Y/n)'s dad says, hugging her before studying me.
"Dad, no," (Y/n) says before dragging me outside.
"Sorry about that," (Y/n) mutters, walking over to her car, and putting her things in the trunk.
"It's alright," I say as she takes my suitcase, putting it next to her's in the trunk.
The two of us get in the car and sit in a comfortable silence as (Y/n) drives towards the airport. After the ten minute drive, we grab our stuff, including (Y/n)'s coffee, and we walk through the airport to where the Quinjet is parked in the hanger.

Gaia: What place is at the top of your travel bucket list?
I'm basic, Greece. Especially Delphi, Rhamnous, and Athens.
Delphi is, well, Delphi. Rhamnous is the site of an ancient temple to Nemesis, and she is highly associated with it. There is also a sanctuary to Themis. Athens explains itself--my practice is very Athens-centric because they kept the best record, and while I kind of hate Athens I'd love to visit.
Nyx: What are your three aesthetics?
1. Punk, which I think might be surprising for people who don't know me outside of witchy stuff! My main personal aesthetic is actually really punk rock--I regularly wear a spiked collar, have a bit of a mowhawk, and have a battle vest and patch pants.
2. Corvidcore, much less surprising. Associated with goblincore but more, well, corvids. I love crows and I love shiny things
3. Overgrown cottagecore/solarpunk, probably. I love plants, I love nature reclaiming things. It's just really cool.

Thanks for the tag, @gladiowrites! (I know it’s not a tag, but this is fun to do lol)
I.. honestly wrote a lot this 2020. No kidding. Quarantine productivity was real, but so is residency languishing by the wayside while everyone was busy surviving and adjusting. I highly doubt 2021 will be the same, but I’ll always cherish 2020 just because of the writing and nothing else.

- Yes, yes, YES. One of the best stories I’ve ever read this year, ever. (And I mean stories, not fanfics.) Great character study about a man named Oda and a day in his life and a page (or three) out of his book of relationships. The love poured into this is simply overflowing and precious. I’ve been following Joey since this fic was being written, and I’m so proud of him.

I really love how adventurous these stories are, and how much depth you can go with every one. Her characterization is layered and exquisite, and the underlying lore is well-thought-out.

Sure thing! Though I should note that I’ve fallen into a stack of horror film analysis channels, so if that’s not your thing, this list probably won’t do you any good. These are all pretty popular channels, so this is maybe a superficial list? But here are some I’ve been enjoying lately...
After Dark Analysis: one of the few channels I’ve found that’s run by a woman. Also get into analysis of other creepy stuff (chain letters, urban legends, &c)
Ryan Hollinger: I liked his breakdown of The VVitch, The Cube, and Sinister, and he was willing to delve into Cannibal Holocaust (also dat accent). I’ve wound up watching (or listening) to most of his stuff.
Real Dimensional Pictures: not very many videos, but the ones on 1408, In the Mouth of Madness, and Hereditary are all pretty good, imo.
FoundFlix: sometimes more summary than analysis, but sometimes that’s what I’m feeling; sometimes the guy presenting and narrating the videos is really loud, sometimes I’m really not feeling that. But there’s a bunch of videos here, so that’s cool.
Now You See It: NOT totally horror-centric, yay! Less analysis of specific films and more analysis of overarching concepts in movies: injuries, the color red, costume design, setting-as-character, &c. Good supercuts.
Screened: I’ve really only watched their “Why Cosmic Horror Is Hard to Make” video, but that one was pretty solid, so I suspect the others are good too.
Cold Crash Picures: I’ve really only watched the Candyman video (because I got stuck in a fascination with that film earlier this summer) but I’ve been meaning to get to their Should We Still Watch Gone With the Wind? videos.
Collative Learning: I’m mostly here for the Hereditary stuff, tbh.
SpookyRice: Less formal, more humor; I love love love their “Disturbing Breakdowns” because they just get to the gross stuff with no mucking around. But, again, more for shock and humor than actual analysis. Just fun.
FilmComicsExplained: not always breakdowns of whole movies, but sometimes parts or characters in them--also includes television shows and comics sometimes. I skip those for the film stuff.
Cinema Tyler:This one is kind of new to me, but I did like the Stalker video. This channel does more on the background and making-of aspects of films.
Every Frame a Painting: doesn’t seem to be updating anymore? Which is a shame because their videos on, like, chairs and texting in movies and long single-shot takes are really good. Chairs? Yes, really.
Film Theorists: I guess I should include this one out of obligation? I dunno, pretty clever writing and generally kinda funny, and I did like the breakdown of Fifty Shades of Gray as cult indoctrination. So, yeah, maybe you’ll like it--but that’s just a theory, a film theory! And cut.
Nyx Fears: another film channel run by a woman, yes! And a trans-woman too. I found the Beyond the Black Rainbow analysis video from this channel aaaaages ago and really enjoyed it. Also other fun videos on this channel about other creppy and spoopy things, so don’t miss those too.

Now, one issue I have is that most of the channels I’ve turned up are run by men. I really want to find more run by women and other people who aren’t cis men because I know some interpretation of film (and horror in particular) is different among women. I’ve found good true crime channels run by women, but film analysis/review channels run by women seem harder to come by. Link me to some if you know some, please!

first impression: I was a little worried bc the last “”hero”” character that I remembered square doing was snow from XIII and I couldn’t stand snow, but the way they made nyx loyal to an insane degree/they really Went There with the ptsd like.. he feels a lot more genuine than I expected him to be
impression now: the tragedy that is his character losing everything and giving everything up for the greater good and how he never loses sight of that (even if he wants to act flippant and snarky) it kills me he is.. Too Good
favorite moment: him watching lunafreya fling herself out of a moving airship with his mouth open like you didn’t think she’d actually do it nyx, plsI also actually really like the scene between him and libertus right after crowe dies?? I think bc someone people play down his batshit insane loyalty to regis, and here libertus is upset & throwing in the towel (understandably) and nyx is still sitting there yelling she died a glaive trying to convince him to stay like he just doesn’t know when to quit
idea for a story: MOST OF THEM OVERLAP WITH THE IGNIS IDEAS but more space/sci fi stuff I do have an idea for a (tbh more crowe-centric fic) about the glaives in space. crowe strong arms her way into a mission to investigate a space station that they lost contact with, even thought it’s Bad News, she doesn’t back down because her brothers, nyx and libertus, were on that station. and she needs to know what happened and save them if she can.
unpopular opinion: I guess I already kind of said it, but I think people usual make Nyx out to be more irreverent than he is? at least during serious stuff with people he respects, like he’s a sarcastic little fuck for sure, and he gets flippant and snarky towards his enemies during tense life or death situations, but i think he’d probably cut of his left hand before he was caught dead saying something rude to regis imo(never forget this is the man that said He’d Fight A Hundred Wars If It Meant Peace And Boredom For Galahadians while out drinking and his friends were all like will you please shut up we are trying to have fun)
favorite relationship: PRETTY SURE THAT ONE’S OBVIOUS but nyx/ignis ofcthough there will always be a special place in my heart for luna/nyx because they were the dream team in kingsglaive

I hate explaining things, especially if they are transparent to everyone who participated, but Mads was kind enough to think it might make a difference to lay out exactly how that theme won. The funny thing is that none of those complaints or appeals had shit all to do with our methodology. Weird, right? It's almost like they were concerned with a completely unrelated thing. Unpossible!
With that in mind, this is not a post about The Theme That Dare Not Speak Its Name or Steter Week. This isn't even a post addressed to the people with all of those concerns.
This is (mostly) a post for anyone who has no idea what the Scerek Anon or anti-Scott sentiment has to do with Steter fandom.
The very short answer is that they don't.
If you want the longer answer, there is an entire investigative report that happened. No, I'm not fucking with you. It totally happened, and you can read it here.
If you want the other long answer about racism affecting fandom trends and favorite characters, you’ll have to do your own homework.
So am I saying that no one left Steter fandom over Scott-hate? Nope. I don't know everyone. I've also been told that learning about the Scerek Anon caused a lot of a big feelings in people who weren't even the targets.
Speaking of targets, let's not forget that the Steter fandom was barely touched by these events. The Scerek Anon seemed to enjoy several different Stiles-ships as long as Scott or Malia weren't involved, and they were known to leave positive comments on Steter fics. Steter writers were not the ones being harassed for their correct use of AO3 tags. They weren’t sent horrible messages wishing they or their families would die for daring to include Scott or write Derek in a less than perfect light. I find it infuriating that anyone would try to say that the Steter fandom ever faced the same kind of treatment that the Scott, Braeden, and Malia fandoms did.
But Nyx made some extraordinary claims, particularly about the “biggest Steter fans”.

Okay. Credit where it’s due. The second one is pretty accurate. But the first is not remotely based in reality.
With the mention of lolscerekanon, I have to believe that Nyx is specifically talking about Taylorpotato, and I'm sorry. Is this seriously an assertion that he was silenced or bullied by anti-Scott fans? I guess he was so bullied that he proceeded to write Scott-centric fic for the better part of a year. Yes, he was so petrified by the overwhelming hatred for Scott fics that he spearheaded a project to mock the Scerek Anon and eventually declared that they had won against the troll.
But no, he and all of those other unnamed Steter writers fled the fandom because the Scott hatred was too powerful.
There are plenty of older fans who are still here, but I can also think of several well-known people who no longer create Steter content. Some of them still read and comment on Steter fics. Many of them are writing in other fandoms. A lot of these people are awfully findable for being “in hiding”.
You know who I do remember being harassed over fics/blog posts and actually left fandom? Kinkyfics and Morallydubious. I can’t say if it was Scott-related. It seemed to involve several issues, including nasty comments, but regardless of their motives, it would be a huge stretch to call them Steter writers as most of their work was for other pairings.
Is Steter fandom smaller and quieter? The AO3 tag updates more frequently than ever. The @steternetwork gets new followers everyday, and they mostly don’t look like spam bots. The Network chat almost always has someone online, ready to talk about Steter, and there are some other Steter chats around.
None of that sounds smaller or quieter to me, but hey. Your mileage may vary.
Now, I'm going to get a little personal here. It wasn’t part of the original plan, but my annoyance level has increased a lot as I’ve watched the wank unfold.
Maybe it’s coincidental or just a case of weird optics, but I find it positively fascinating that Nyx hasn’t mentioned Steter Week since arguing with me and Bxdcubes about fandom’s ability to come to their own conclusions.
Isn’t it funny how she claims that this will be the year... now that Mar isn’t involved and I’m on a different blog? I guess Nyx is ready to release about two years' worth of thwarted Steter smut. After all, there's no way that anyone has ever managed to continue posting fic in a fandom after disagreeing with people.

Well, fuck me running. I guess the realization that the Steter fandom won't blindly agree with anything was harder to take than the frequent debates and callouts Nyx deals with now.
Folks, I am beyond tired of the character/ship squads and pro-anti-whatever fighting. I am done crusading for anything, even trash. I no longer have it in me to engage in The Discourse 24/7. One of the reasons I made a new tumblr home was to get away from the endless wank.
Yes, there are people in the fandom who hate Scott. Maybe they dislike his crooked jaw, or they disapprove of the actor’s life choices. I don’t care. They’re allowed. Plenty of people hate Peter/Ian Bohen, and I sleep just fine at night. I don’t even harass them or hijack their event posts, and from what I’ve seen of fandom, that’s downright amazing.

*Regarding the creators I’m aware of who no longer contribute to Steter: I don't name them here because they don't deserve to be dragged into this ridiculous shit. Quite frankly, none of us do.
*I hope everyone realizes that I'm not minimizing what happened to the people who felt unable to continue in fandom because of any kind of ship or character hate, but the post specified "the biggest Steter fans", so that's what I examined.

So I've been trawling for ttm and post ttm fics on ao3 because that ending hurt my soul a bit and I was surprised how little I found, not just on ao3 either, there doesn't seem to be much discussion about it, granted the thing's only been out for 2 months but I would've thought that new material would've led to a bunch of new works and an upsurge in interest. I'm curious about your thoughts on this, care to share?
i mean for a lot of the fandom, it’s been out since early september (if people read the leaks). there was a lot of discussion then and also discussion in the immediate two weeks following the official release (october 6th).
there’s two pages (31 works) total of just people who used the tag “book: through the moon” on ao3, let alone people who didn’t tag the graphic novel at all even if their fic was set after/during it, or people who used different tags, like “ttm spoilers” or “post ttm” or “post through the moon.” there’s also a sizeable amount of fic that gets posted on tumblr - shorter pieces, definitely, but they still add up eventually - that don’t get posted on ao3 or ffn (or only one or the other). so in the 2-3 months since the graphic novel dropped, there’s been a far bit of specific content.
there’s also a difference, i think, in all the promotion and hype of a season VS an extra additional material. i think if TTM had come out 4-6 months post-s3 there might have been more works inspired by it - people naturally ebb and flow in fandoms, especially when they’re in hiatus - but it came out 10 months into hiatus. that’s a long time.
and in an active tv show fandom like this, there tends to be two types of fic writers.
seasonal writers, who update projects and create them based around new material every season. think fan seasons, canon divergences, projects started and finished before they’re made AU, etc. very common for slowburn / non canon ships in on going series (especially when a show is released weekly). this was the bulk of the rayllum fic content following s2, as pining and non established relationships gives a lot of different ship centric fic flavoured options (i.e. how long the pining lasts, who kisses who first and under what circumstances, etc).
we’re gonna call the second group regardless writers. these are the people who write stuff they know is gonna be au in future seasons (or already is) and plod along well after that point passes. usually deals with established relationships (canon or not). these were the people writing about rayllum getting married post s2 or pre-s2. nor do they try and tailor or update their fics to fit the latest content; they’re more concerned with exploring the being (fanon possibilities) than the happening (canon realities). think writing a fan season but like, three seasons down the line (s6) instead of the next one (s4).
the main reason i make this distinction is that post s3 rayllum shifted from having mostly seasonal writers (by proxy) to regardless writers. there were fics of staying in xadia, fics of going back to katolis, fics just about fluffy scenarios, de-coining fics, etc. what s4 could hold was absolutely anyone’s guess, especially for rayllum. would they be in xadia or katolis, would there be a separation arc, how long would the timeskip be, etc? we sure didn’t know, and were making all of our stuff regardless.
which is a long way of saying that most people who are seasonal writers probably started writing their fan season fours 8 months before TTM came out, and given that the comic fundamentally changes where rayllum left off as compared to s3, changing possibly 100k+ of what you’ve already written is basically impossible. and those who are non seasonal writers wouldn’t have changed it up regardless.
there’s also the fact that TTM’s ending, while it opens up a lot of possibilities for them as individuals (travelling separately, running into OCs or canon characters like nyx or ethari, etc), from a ‘ship centric’ fic lens, there’s like, two possibilities.
either callum goes after her (possibly right away, possibly after a duration - but again, that’s overall a very small detail) and eventually finds her, or rayla chooses to come back of her own accord. the conclusion from that point onwards is pretty self explanatory. callum is hurt and angry, something has changed rayla’s mind, and they work on reconciling.
it’s a very angsty premise we know the show is most likely going to explore in detail (cause they’re two of three Main Characters) nor is it everyone’s cup of tea to write.
after all, compare and contrast that to all the established possibilities that were previously set: fancy balls in katolis; cute date shenanigans in the pentarchy or xadia; characters reacting to seeing the two together; engagement or fluff set after whatever reconciliation there would be (which therefore TTM really doesn’t have that much bearing on by default), etc. just to name a few, and yeah - post-ttm has a very narrowed focus of what’s an emotionally compelling next step by comparison. which is not bad - but there’s only so much people are gonna want to write about a reunion before they wanna move on Beyond that in some manner.
i also think there’s more factors as to why, following s2, there were a plethora of “fan season 3 rayllum fics” and not nearly as many “fan season four” fics which is that post s2 was like, fans knew for a decent chunk of s3 that rayllum 1) had the main plotline of bringing zym home, and 2) the importance of them taking zym home meant keeping them isolated from the rest of the cast / plot for the majority of the season/fic made sense. you could write a fic all about just these two kids pining for each other and exploring xadia and it was very easy to make a coherent narrative out of it.
post s3, they’re suddenly connected to everyone else again. or that rayla has to connect to someone else in order to have a sustainable storyline, and if callum is in katolis to help ezran politically, it’s delaying the natural emotional conclusion people ultimately want from post-ttm work (as a reader and a writer) because they’re not going to be seeing each other any time soon.
as a fan, sitting there and watching everything that s4 could include beyond rayllum is a really fun, engaging experience that requires significantly less brain work than plotting and balancing however many plot lines are gonna collide when, from a creation aspect, you really might just be there for one.
and given that we’ve been on hiatus now for over a year, we’re likely more than halfway through the hiatus. and for all the reasons i’ve started before, seasonal writers have either already started their stuff a while ago or have naturally drifted. regardless writers are still here, but activity always drops up past the 6 month mark of hiatus (july in particular tends to be the last hurrah because it’s their joint birthday month and is a bit of an annual thing).
TLDR; ttm doesn’t actually change that much in the grand scheme of things (at least not when it comes to ship wish fulfillment), people defaulted to the general layout of what the reunion would be like very quickly (and rather correctly tbh), and fic writers who try to keep up with the new content likely hadn’t changed anything hardcore since s3 and it’s too late to do so now.

I wouldn’t say “actively dislike” butthe toxicity of fandom on this website has sucked away most of my passion for Voltron lol. I used to really dig itthe first month or so after getting really into it when S2 aired. I still havean unfinished draft for a 7-parter rarepair fic //ey guess my fav duo ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)// sitting in my folders. don’t think I’llbe touching it any time soon though. im rather burnt out from this fandom, evenif I do still enjoy watching all the new seasons thereafter.

only, she finds she isn’t the first to occupy this place of solitude. the master of the church notices her soon enough, and when vampire recognises the ancient weave of magic that flows within her, he appears; intrigued for something other than a fresh meal.
(basically a deviation from the standard vampire (romance-ish) novels lolol plot bunny hit me pre-Christmas eve dinner/yesterday and sofar im digging it. still planning the ship and fandom though; it might very easily be OC-based)

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons thatyou will die defending?
Not really. I’m a very flexible person when it comes tointerpretable lore and content, especially if it’s the type of HCs that thefandom collectively comes up with. Unless it’s a canon fact, I like to dabble orjust stay away from HCs in general. If I have to come up with some in my fics,then so be it. But most of the time these HCs are either super vague or onlyapply to the context in this particular piece or series of writing. Basically Idon’t mind switching HCs for charas frequently as long as it does notfundamentally change their own character. (HCs for hobbies and loves and habitsand relationships apart from their inner circle, etc. are all fine)
Honestly it just boils down to expectations lol I know myown limits, and I know not to be disappointed when canon updates end updebunking (popular) fandom HCs or my own.

how does ur wizard training work ? i am very interested but i dont rly know where to start !
start with what feels within your reach, but something you’re really interested in doing. there’s no real wrong way to start tbh but if you try something very big on your first go it can either go really really wrong or just not work. heres a weak summery of my magical history so u can see where i started if u have any more questions dont hesitate to ask
when i was a tiny child i started with this set of three books that were about divination and body care and healing and i practiced traveling meditation(which i guess is like astral projection but u dont really interact with the corporeal realm thru a film you’re just. somewhere else). thats also when i got my dragon tarot deck which i still use. i also used to leave offerings and build shrines for elementals and faeries up until i was probably around 10 or 11, at which point id still leave stuff but i was also trying to push the energy interaction more. so id do stuff like practicing the type of communication thru feeling and observation with trees and animals and stones. my magic when i was a kid was way more dragon-centric than it is now bc i was constantly searching for them in the other world.
i had been trying to get my hands on runes for a long time but my mom thought i was too young, but she finally caved when i was 10 and made me a set of runes out of green aventurine. i stopped practicing traveling meditation entirely within my first year of middle school and relied almost entirely on my runes to get me thru it. i ended up getting into a more ‘unsavory’ side of magic while my parents were getting divorced and i didnt have any friends and i was desperate for some kind of comforting company and i started messing around w demon magic which wasn’t that dangerous but definitely taxing for a long time. up until some time last year i was still interacting w one entity from that time in my dreams and i really miss him actually. the last place i saw him was in the land of the dead(place i go to in dreams, exactly what it sounds like but not what youd expect) right before i left and that’s the last time i ever went to the land of the dead too.
thru high school my magic has been more abt me reacting to things rather than causing them. reacting to dreams, reacting to spirit interactions, reacting to people who need my help. i usually only do spells for others, sometimes when im asked by one in a dream or if a friend wants me to perform a big cleanse on em. if im doing stuff for myself i usually do sigil stuff or tool creation even though its sort of lazy to manifest and name an energy to keep an eye on my wards or protect me instead of doing it myself, but i started doing it bc now i have to do an extra year cause i couldnt juggle both at once and was also in a part of my life where i was at the rock bottom of mental health(which kinda made magic fun bc i just felt like i was in the otherworld all the time but was very scary for any other time).
magic isn’t always good sometimes it gets really bad if you dont take the right precautions or if you get ahead of yourself to show off. someone i used to know put me and my friend in danger bc they were trying to be flashy and commune directly w nyx and that was one of the worst and scariest nights of my life bc just. everything went wrong.
its also important to remember that its difficult to balance magic and the mundane cause they both are time consuming and you gotta have time where youre not doing anything too. if ur still in school i suggest taking the side of the mundane bc even though seeping out of your body into the forest floor for 6 hours instead of going to school feels incredible and bigger than anything doing extra school feels like Shit and unfortunately the mundane world doesnt stop when u receive polished stones from a yew tree or make eye contact with a god from a cliff above the sea so if u can stay in school dont let magic get in the way of it
