So thrilled that me and my friend @separatist-apologist were able to commission this enchanting Gwynriel art!
@amarnouille did such an amazing job of drawing Azriel and Gwyn! I love all the details on Azriel’s tunic and Gwyn’s dress!
Just absolutely lovely!

Yeah and one more thing, Cassian is a worthless bitch. How much can an “icy, amused gleam in Cassian’s eyes” tell us? I’ll give you an answer, Cassian is simply a dog that obeys whatever orders his master gives him and delights in carrying out his will. “Ick” doesn’t even begin to describe the feelings I have towards this moment of characterization, it gives me concrete evidence of Cassian’s worthlessness as a love interest.
Tumblr media
Let’s go over his plan, shall we? Cassian intends to take Nesta on a gruelling hike as a punishment for her telling Feyre the truth, but it is strongly implied that he is inflicting this punishment to placate Rhysand’s rage about being exposed as a liar. Nesta, a person who has never been hiking before, is forced to carry a pack that is 1/3rd of her body weight up a mountain during an emotional crisis. Cassian’s says nothing about what Feyre told him, he barely speaks to her during the hike and leaves her alone with her guilt and by extension, her suicidal ideation. Tell me, how exactly is this meant to help Nesta? This is exactly why I’ll never buy the Inner Circle’s arguments that they only want to help Nesta, this is not helping, this is abuse masquerading as therapy.
Tumblr media
Oh! So he does know that she hates herself! This makes his plan even better. In the midst of her obvious emotional turmoil and guilt, he can take her to a location where one could easily fall and die/harm themselves, all while not telling her anything about Feyre’s recovery and letting her anguish for two days straight! He’s the fucking worst!

I am not really sure why E/riels don't understand the difference between skittering, skittering back and Skittered away .... But I hoped that they would understand that Azriel's shadows disappearing or vanishing is definitely a BAD THING
Shadows with Elain, this isn't unique to her either it was the same with Mor ... 2 people who clearly aren't going to be his end game
Tumblr media
Shadows with Mor....
Tumblr media
Now , Shadows and Az
They will always be with him, they are his companions and source of power.
Tumblr media
They shield him , protect him and clearly care:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They give him power and are a source of magic
Tumblr media
They react to him when he is happy , they basically dance.... He is the shadowsinger so that's not surprising that they sing and dance to his voice
Tumblr media
The only other person the shadows react in the playful positive way is Gwyn... They dance in her presence
Tumblr media
They also dance when Az and Gywn are being playful and banter
Tumblr media
They also sing to her .... They Calm in her presence , they are curious about her , they just like lounging and watching Az and her talk ... Far cry from vanishing and skittering back
Tumblr media
If this isn't SJM making it obvious Gwyn is his mate and end game I don't know what to say ... it is wilful ignorance at this point

It’s really strange that the Inner Circle expected Nesta to recover within such a short span of time when their lifespans are so long, you would think that a clique of immortals might have difference conceptions of acceptable recovery timeframes. 1-2 years is hardly anything when you factor in the centuries that Nesta has yet to live. With the way they act, you’d think they’d never been exposed to the behaviour of a traumatized individual, especially one who’s undergone a HUGE transition.
It would actually be a great opportunity to show the cultural differences between the former-humans and the fae. Mentally, the Archeron sisters are still human and haven’t had a lot of experience in the fae world and don’t have a full grasp of what it’s like. So, you have a vast gap of knowledge between the two groups when it comes to time, milestones, significant moments, etc. SJM doesn’t take advantage of this potential because the ages of the Inner Circle are surface level, really they just act like a clique of college friends and their vast ages don’t really matter that much. BUT THEY SHOULD!
I think it’d be really funny if Cassian was like: “Yeah after the war I knew this one guy who disappeared into a cave for 30 years, but when he came out he was as good as new! Everyone needs a little time.” And then cut to Feyre’s flabbergasted reaction. Instead, they act so impatient about it. Like…calm down you guys, you literally have centuries to work things out, you don’t have to freak out over Nesta not recovering quickly enough.

Rhysand: I trust Cassian.
Azriel: You think he knows what he's doing?
Rhysand: I wouldn't go that far.

Gwyn: *mutters while holding the white ribbon* I bet he could tie me up with this later.
Azriel: *thinking curiously from across the ring* Who is she talking about?
The Shadows: *excitedly all speaking at once* Youyouyouyou.
Azriel: Yes, I know I’m the one training her today, you all didn’t have to tell me that.
The Shadows: You idiot.

So listen. On this humble Friday afternoon I have made the most delightful of discoveries. Let me begin by listing some facts:
Eris is named a total of 545 times in the series as it stands right now (I'm including acofas in this analysis.)
We are well aware that the series currently consists of five published books.
At the end of the fifth book (acosf) Azriel is 540 years old.
545 - 5 = 540 = Azris Confirmed
I'm happy to say that, with this painstakingly thorough analysis of the canon texts, we can rest easy knowing that Azris has been verified in the most scientific and indisputable of ways 😌

I know this fandom likes to shit on Nesta for being “hOrRiBLe tO fEyRe” so let’s talk about it. I want to discuss Feyre’s pregnancy specifically.
Nesta was forced into a spot (by Rhys) where she should watch her sister die and say nothing about it or she will be the bad guy?! Preventable death no less. What is wrong with y’all?!! Does nobody understand that she is her little sister?!??? Would you be able to watch your sister essentially being forced to kill herself and say nothing about it?! And don’t even get me started on how Rhys had the guts to want to actually kill Nesta for telling Feyre the truth when he knows damn well he let his “mate” die without so much as a warning. He didn’t even give her a choice when she had one. Idk if this is SJM’s pro life propaganda or just a shitty shitty shitty male character but it is unforgivable either way.
Now I know that the main argument is not about what Nesta said but rather how she said it. And I can concede that; but not entirely.
The way Nesta told Feyre might not have been ideal but can we back up for a second and look at why Nesta was destructively furious at the time? I’ll tell you why: because Feyre herself made it ok for strangers to discuss and judge her own sister behind her back. Mind you Nesta wasn’t mad about whichever decision they came to; she was mad that she was being discussed and judged at a “meeting.” Not to mention that the point of the whole discussion was whether to tell her about something that she created. Something that shouldn’t have been up for debate in the first place. I don’t see high lord Rhys creating magic objects now do I? So why’s it even up to him to decide?
And don’t get me started on Amren and her insinuation that Nesta made the weapon so that he can become a dictator. Like okay Amren sure the weapons “aPpEaRd” for Rhys’s disposal. Right. Not like they were made by the same person who killed hybern, lanthys, and briallyn. The person who every high and mighty fearsome creature called “god” and (my personal favorite) “queen of queens.” The same person on whom Rhys’s fancy magic don’t work. The same person who the sacred objects answer to no matter what and no matter where. Sure.
The only sane person in that entire debacle was Azriel though. I am 100% anti inner circle and their high school clique popular image so I must exclude Az from that narrative. Credit is where credit is due.

The biggest evidence of Gwyn being Azriel’s mate is, IMO, a single line:
“A thing of secret, lovely beauty.”
This is the last line in the Azriel bonus chapter in ACOSF. He is describing Gwyn’s joy upon seeing the necklace. Set aside the fact that it was regifted, that he just “wanted” Elain not 5 minutes earlier, and think:
Azriel pined for Mor for five hundred years. In the books, Mor is described just as Rhys is: outwardly, unbelievably beautiful.
Azriel yearned for Elain, to taste her, have her, much in the same way. And like Mor, Elain is described as outwardly beautiful. Even Feyre says she’s always been known as the most beautiful sister.
Azriel feels that he is not beautiful. He is full of scars and shadows. He is attracted to the thing he wants most, the thing he feels he’ll never have: beauty. And both Mor and Elain are essentially beauty personified.
But here’s the thing… Azriel needs to accept himself first. Even Mor said, at one point, that the problem wouldn’t be her if they were to get together. It would be him, because he doesn’t feel deserving of anyone. And perhaps when he finally does, he will see what’s right in front of his eyes; that beauty can mean many things. That there’s something to be said about beauty hidden deep within. That perhaps another person—someone who isn’t considered punch-you-in-the-face exquisite, but is beautiful all the same—might help him see that.
Two people of secret, lovely beauty. 💜

I had a thought. Rhys gave Eris one of Nesta Made daggers for Solstice.
I don't know how easy it is to kill a High Lord. In case of Tamlin's and Rhys's fathers, each one was murdered by a High Lord (each other). What if only great magic or another HL can kill a High Lord?
I don't think that the High Lords are like Death Gods, but it's taken a Made weapon to kill both the Bone Carver and Lanthys. But it must be difficult to kill a HL, and perhaps that's why Eris hasn't been able to do it up until now?
So now that Eris has a Made dagger, will it finally be used to kill Beron? Maybe it's something that Rhys knew and that's why he opted to give it to Eris?

Edit and Disclaimer: for the Elriel fans losing their shit over this post, I am in no way suggesting Azriel IS exactly like Tamlin. EVERY single character in this series shares certain negative characteristics with other characters. That doesn't mean they are going to become exactly like those characters. It just means that one character might struggle with something the way another character did. No I'm not suggesting Az will lock up Elain. All I'm saying is that there may always be a slight imbalance in terms of how he views Elain. He may always struggle with feeling like he needs to protect her rather than them sharing the ability to protect one another.
Back to the original post:
It does not matter that Azriel is sweet with Elain.
It does not matter that he is attracted to her.
What matters is that he does not BELIEVE in her.
Tumblr media
Which reminds me a lot of:
Tumblr media
Instead of having:
Tumblr media
"encouragement". A little louder, shall we? "ENCOURAGEMENT!" 🎉🪅🥳🎈🎉
While:
Tumblr media
Sounds a lot like:
Tumblr media
I've seen the above section used to prove that Az cares more for Elain than Gwyn. Because he was willing to die to get Elain back while he wasn't as worried for Gwyn. And that actually might be right at this moment in time, he probably does care for her more. But caring for someone, wanting to protect them, does not mean you will be right for one another in a relationship.
I think the more important take away in all this is that Tamlin was also willing to die to keep Feyre safe. He was willing to go out on dangerous patrols without her because he believed he was capable of being her protector. Was willing to risk himself because he felt Feyre was not able to defend herself.
I don't think Rhys would have ever left Feyre to fend for herself had she failed at any of the tasks he requested of her but the difference is he encouraged her to try. He was her backup but he let her take the reigns. He had such a strong faith in what she was capable of that he asked her to step outside her comfort zone so she could learn who she was and what she could do.
Azriel wants to protect Elain in the same way Tamlin wanted to protect Feyre. Yet in a very short time, he believes in Gwyn’s ability to handle herself. He's already cheering on her progress. Maybe that is because he hasn't yet developed feelings for her. But maybe for someone like Az, that's exactly what he needs. He needs to first witness that someone is capable of defending themselves before falling for them so he doesn't immediately default into protector mode.
Unfortunately he's already in that frame of mind with Elain and I don't see that changing.
Lucien might feel jealous. He might feel the urge to claim Elain as his mate and he felt the urge to get her out of the Night Court when he believed she was in danger before he knew her. But after knowing her for maybe a month, after looking at her as if finally seeing her for the first time, he left because he realized that was what she needed. He was not so overcome by the need to protect her that he was unwilling to give her space. When he found out she had stabbed the King, he said it in a way that suggested respect. Not fear or anger for having done something dangerous. Some might say that's because he doesn't care for her. But I say that even if the feelings aren't strong yet, the foundation is one of healthy love rather than possessive love.
Elain deserves someone who encourages and believes in her. Who stands to the side, ready to offer assistance if necessary but is secretly hoping it's not so Elain has the chance to prove how valuable she truly is.

The thing is…Rhysand’s reasoning for specifically hating Nesta doesn’t even have to revolve around getting revenge for Feyre by proxy. It could very easily be turned into an opportunity to examine his character on a deeper level and eventually lead to a potential reconciliation or “burying the hatchet “ moment between himself and Nesta. Because despite his claims that he’s hostile to Nesta because “she made Feyre suffer” it feels like there’s more to it than he’s letting on due to the extent of his abuse of authority when it comes to targeting her.
When Rhysand targets Nesta, he is going against Feyre’s wishes by doing so. Feyre told him before, that she wanted them to get along, that she wanted him to treat her sisters fairly, but Rhysand refused. He gives nonsense answers when Feyre questions him like “Oh, well you see Feyre, it’s because Nesta is Illyrian” as if that actually means something and isn’t him being purposely vague. Makes you wonder if there’s a more emotional reason for why he’s doing this (not that there is, but still).
For example, maybe Rhysand doesn’t like Nesta because he feels she isn’t grateful enough for having two living sisters. It could connect back to his own younger sister who he’ll never get back and how he’ll never have a chance at experiencing a relationship like the ones the Archeron sisters have with each other. He could be projecting his feelings of guilt and envy onto Nesta and make his sister’s death function as more than just a footnote in his tragic backstory. Maybe he could realize that he judged Nesta unfairly and that his own unresolved emotions got in the way and caused him to take that out on her.
Idk…it just feels like a missed opportunity and it makes Rhysand look shallow that he reacts so strongly to Nesta’s past mistakes and yet he can barely articulate why he has that reaction. It’s just “ grrrrr you hurt my mate *snarls* raaaahhhh” which is soooo boring.
