So the Lunatic Magician in Dungeon Meshi had their name revealed for the anime. It's still Sissel, and the post got community note'd on Twitter:
Tumblr media
And like, that's technically true, but it's also deeply annoying because like, it doesn't go into why the mistake was made.
The character's name in Japanese is シスル (Shi-se-ru), and when a translator sees that and knows "this is a character's name", they're going to guess Sissel - a real, Norwegian, name, one you might as well see in a Fantasy Manga with a clear European influence in naming scheme.
It took until the Adventurer's Bible, well after his name had been stated in the manga, for it to be explained "he was named Thistle for the green color of his eyes".
By that point, several volumes of the manga had been released where his name was given as Sissel. Sometimes, when translating something as it comes, volume by volume, or game by game, the most realistic choice is to throw your hands up and go "yeah, this mistake is just canon now".
Like, what, do you want them to reprint half the manga to fix one name?
Mistakes like this are shockingly common, but when Street Fighter actually shuffles the names of several characters around, nobody rages that he's not called M. Bison, stop that, call him Vega like he's supposed to!
Even after having a similar name shuffling pointed out, most Fire Emblem fans will continue to call the Tellius Black Knight's sword as Alondite, instead of the Japanese name Ettard.
Maybe, in the internet age, you could justify saying "they should go back and fix it", but just calling it "a mistake" that happened with no cause, out of the ether, is very misleading about how localization works, and how mistakes like this happen in the first place.
It's only gonna give ammunition to the worst, most bad-faith anti-localization idiots out there.

The League of Morons vs A Summer Camp
Tumblr media
All right, so I love the hell out of this nonsense and I want to talk about the Vanguard's plan and how ridiculous it was.
First, most of the crew showed up a night early and…well, then what?  That first night, Dabi says they’re still waiting on a few more people to arrive.  Okay, so what are you all doing here already?
Did Kurogiri warp them back to the bar after they’d gotten a look at the place?  Scouted the area a bit?  You needed seven people for that? Were they that bored waiting for Twice, Compress, and the Nomu to show up?  What were they doing in the 24 hours between this part and the actual attack?  Standing on that cliff and muttering,  “Heroes…”?
Was Toga all, "Guys, I'm tired. Can we go back to the bar already?"
Spinner: "No, as villain protocol dictates, we must stand here menacingly for a minimum of twelve hours."
Dabi: Fuck you, I'm going to bed.
Tumblr media
Except for being a scare tactic, having Dabi start a fire was mostly unnecessary. Their goal was to further weaken society's faith in heroes by targeting UA students, so you'd think he'd be a little more proactive in...well, actually harming someone. As it happened, the fire really only to served to announce there was an attack happening.
But I’ll throw the Vanguard a bone here and say this was Spinner’s doing.  Like their original plan was to start a massive fire that would consume both classes and all the heroes in a singular tragedy, but then Spinner said,  “Hey, pump the breaks, people.  We’re here to uphold Stain’s ideals about toppling the corrupt Hero culture.  Do we really want mass child murder as part of our brand?” Sure, he wanted to go after Iida, but he was a specific target since he was on Stain's hit list.
Tumblr media
The two copies Twice made of Dabi were virtually useless in a fight since Vlad and Aizawa both took him out so quickly it was embarrassing.  And yet he’s apparently a big enough threat that No. 1 and No 2. can’t handle him.  Go fig.
Endeavor/Hawks:  Oh, no, he’s too strong…
Aizawa/Vlad:  Listen here, you little shit!
...
Muscular goes and reveals their plan even though he didn’t have to.  They all saw the Sports Festival, they knew what Bakugo looked like, and yet here he is asking Deku where he he can find Bakugo as if he was going to answer him.  Yes, he didn’t think there was any harm in telling him since his plan was to kill Deku anyway, but alerting UA to the fact they were looking to kidnap someone is still just hubris.
Going after Bakugo in the first place was a dumb idea.  We can probably credit that one to Shigaraki because only he would look at the violently temperamental teenager raging on national television and think,  “Yes, he seems like a reasonable person to negotiate with.”
...
Gonna drop in some actual light criticism here: Given the inequality issues that arise in the series later, targeting the heteromorph students for recruitment purposes would have been a smarter move for the LoV.  They’re all part of a demographic that has a justified reason for being dissatisfied with society, so there would have been a believable chance of the LoV thinking they could sway some people to their side.
But hey, the League of Villains was on a learning curve. Give 'em a break.
Tumblr media
He totally saw Aoyama here.  Or at least he heard him because he clocked that there was something weird about that bush and he was going to go check it out…and then Twice distracted him and Dabi has an total ADHD moment and forgets what he was doing.
And it's not because Aoyama was the spy. Nobody in the Vanguard knew.
1.) Shigaraki says he tried and couldn't figure out where the camp was, but AFO figured it out relatively quickly. So if even his successor doesn't know who the spy was or called on that resource, then why would AFO tell anyone else in the group?
2.) Moonfish, Muscular, and Mustard were all apprehended, but none of them ratted out Aoyama, as someone with nothing left to lose would. Neither did Kurogiri when he was later apprehended, but that one may have been a loyalty matter. So I think this was a case of AFO saying, "I have a source of info and you don't need to know who it is." Because at the end of the day, AFO is an arrogant narcissist who's definitely not placing all his eggs in one basket. Aoyama wouldn't be an easy spy to replace, so of course AFO would want to limit any chances of him being exposed.
So this was Dabi's screw up.
Speaking of forgetting things, Dabi also straight up forgot they had a Nomu because he thanked Twice for reminding him they had a Nomu.
Sir....how the hell do you forget you have a Nomu?
Tumblr media
Toga was supposed to get blood from at least three people.  She failed.
Twice had a simple job. Create clones. He succeeded, but the only two he made were Dabi and I refer you to the previous point on how useless they were.
Tumblr media
Spinner and Magne’s roles were a diversion. Distract the Wild, Wild Pussycats and give everyone else the opening to find and kidnap Bakugo.
They did pretty well. Up until the point they were almost caught and Kurogiri had to bail them out. Also Spinner lugged the giant, over-the-top blade contraption all the way there only for Deku to destroy it.
However, they do deserve some credit for making probably the best strategic decision of the group that night, and that was taking out Pixie Bob. We saw on the first day of the camp that she was able to hold back a class of twenty students with an army of earth creatures she was simultaneously controlling. That would have been a huge problem, so for the purposes of their team, good on them for removing that obstacle.
Underrated squad members right here.
Tumblr media
Mustard was a legitimate threat for same reasons Dabi and his fire was a threat, plus he brought a firearm into the fight. (I want to know what the other villains thought when they saw that.)
But instead of putting him in the center of the fight where he could do some significant harm, they placed him on the outliers and all he did was knock some students unconscious and everybody made a full physical recovery, showcasing the gas he emitted wasn’t all that lethal and didn't cause any long-term complications. (Again, maybe this was Spinner's idea of Stain's ideology on not indiscriminately massacring children. "Guys, I'm telling you! That's fucked up!")
Tumblr media
The Nomu (effectively brain dead without orders) did more damage than any of them, which makes the previous point that Dabi forgot they had it even funnier.
Tumblr media
And finally, Mr. Compress was missing for half the night and then almost came in clutch by fulfilling their main objective plus extra credit, only to nearly blow it with his showboating. Seriously, they could have gotten away with both Bakugo and Tokoyami had they just booked it while the going was good.
But no, Compress had to make a dramatic production of it. When he first snatched the kids, he could have just left and Deku and company would have had no idea what happened. Had he just kept his mouth shut and left, they wouldn't have known he even existed. Then as the Vanguard members were leaving through the warp gates, he goes and does it again, giving Aoyama enough time to fire at them with his navel laser, something that also could have bee avoided had Dabi just checked the fucking bush!
The Vanguard Action Squad won by sheer dumb luck and their collective incompetence actually succeeding is the most hilarious thing about this arc. In the end, three members of their crew were arrested.  (Although I think everyone was secretly relieved they lost Moonfish.  Even if he was on my side, I’d be actively worried that guy would kill and eat me in my sleep.)
Tumblr media
Yet this self-important twerp is smiling like they actually did something to be proud of here.  All Dabi really accomplished personally was grab a marble (coincidentally the correct marble) before Shouto could, which is borderline more standard older sibling behavior than actual villainy. He literally lost two separate fights in one night and called it a win.
This arc was a five episode Scooby-Doo trap going wrong and succeeding.
Seriously, I hope that after the warp gates closed, they all just looked at each other and immediately started calling each other out on everything. Like Dabi slapped Compress upside the head and asked him what he'd been thinking having 'one last bow' before they got away. Spinner yelling at Dabi about how the clones did nothing. And there's Bakugo all, "I can't believe I've been kidnapped by a gaggle of morons."
Fake it till you make it at its finest.

The interrogation is just rage-inducing in every way, and the way the cops try to intimidate and break him is just - honestly, the badgering is such that a less steel-willed person would confess to something they didn't even do just to make it stop! But not Zhou Luo. He does not give way or justify and throws it all in their faces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really, this is the gist of the story, isn't it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in the end of this whole sequence, after they tell him about Nan Ya being raped as a truly vile psychological shock tactic, after they point blank say he's gonna be next Xu Yi (poor harmless sweet man drawn into life of badness by evil Nan Ya) and insinuate she was only using him, after they try to make him despair by saying matter of factly he will never get to college but at least he can see his mother if he confesses, after they bring out the "think of your poor mother and what she must be going through" in yet another new low that is getting to the magma level through the earth, and they really get to him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you see the smug bastards celebrate, so confident they finally broke him down:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yet after all this hell, and mind you, he's an equivalent of college freshman, so barely an adult, this is what happens:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can't fucking break him, and I am so so so in awe.
Cops' faces are giving me life:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This drama does so many silent, extreme close ups and ZXC gets more of them than any other actor in this and it's such a complete pleasure to know that they have an actor good enough for this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, their lovely handling of this investigation ensured that nobody in that town will ever voluntarily come forward as a witness for any sort of a crime for the next two decades. Even if ZL is let go and found innocent and goes to college and has a nice life, people are gonna use this as a warning story to each other to stay the fuck out of anything and everything even more.

Delicate, Chapter Two: …Ready For It?
same disclaimer as last time this is just for funsies and i’m not a writer !! also we’ve unlocked cissa and lily povs!!
CW: a bit of alcohol-related struggles
< prev chapter next chapter >
“Lily that was mental! You can’t just say things like that, especially in your situation! What if you get sued?”
“The money you waste on PR teams, I invest in lawyers!” Lily replied, dropping her keys on the table, an exasperated Alice following her inside their home.
“She brought up Snape,” Lily justified herself with a sigh, “You know how I get when they bring up Snape.”
They had just come back from Rita Skeeter’s show, and of course it had been a complete disaster: that woman loved to pick the touchiest topics during her live shows, banally exploiting private matters for views and publicity. That was one of the two reasons most celebrities refused to be her guests, the other being that she was generally a very unpleasant woman to interact with.
A right bitch, if you will.
However, Lily’s situation was…singular.
About a year before she had upset a few (many) big shots in the music and acting industries, gaining a lot of enemies and getting terrible backlash. It had been a horrible year, and thankfully her friends were there for her, but she wanted to get back on the scene. She wasn’t going to let some rich assholes dim her light.
So, of course, when Rita Skeeter had offered her an interview, she had accepted out of desperation. Like an idiot.
“She read one of Avery’s Tweets and you went crazy!” whined Alice.
“I didn’t go crazy-“
“‘How is Lily Evans still relevant? She only makes songs about Snape, he basically made her famous’ And what did you say, Lily?”
Lily bit her lip, remembering the moment with just the tiniest bit of shame. The smile Rita had on her lips while reading that stupid Tweet, the blind rage it had caused.
“Please remind me, what did you say?”
“Something mature and responsible, i’m sure-“
“You said, and I quote, ‘Just to let Avery Jr know, I was the one who made that bitch fucking famous’” Alice countered, eyebrows raised.
Lily swallowed. “…I didn’t say anything else though, did I?”
“Because they cut the cameras!”
“Listen,” rebutted Lily, sitting on the sofa in their living room and pulling out her phone.
“I may have implied that he’s gay but it’s not my fault if he finds that offensive! It’s his problem, really, and he can’t bring that up to court.”
“I think you should focus on the fact that you called Severus Snape a bitch, and that he would be a nobody if it weren’t for you,” countered Alice, taking a pot of peach yoghurt from the fridge. “I pity Longbottom, really: lately being your manager seems like a fucking nightmare.”
“Good thing he’s good at his job, then. He’s like part of the family now.” Lily looked up from her phone smiling, “You are the mum, he’s the dad, Marlene is the reckless younger sister and i’m the angry teen full of hatred for this world.”
“We’re both too young to be your parents, and he might be suspicious of his wife writing about women in her love songs, you know.” Alice smiled, taking a spoonful of yoghurt. “What are you watching?”
“Oh, it’s Narcissa’s last show,” explained Lily with a shrug, “She performed a few songs for a festival last week and I heard great things about a certain performance…apparently she’s been working with this girl for a few months, singing together. She’s been hiding a gem, that’s what her fans have been saying.”
“And how come you’re suddenly so interested in Narcissa Black? Didn’t know you were a fan of hers.” Alice got closer, leaning over Lily’s head to watch the video on her phone. She carried the faint smell of peaches and the weight of past personal issues in her voice, but Lily wasn’t going to pry. Much.
“I like her music, actually. But it’s this new girl that really piqued my interest. New blood, always exciting.” Lily paused the video and decided to push her luck, just a bit. “They remind me of us, you know: a younger singer, guided by a-“
“I’m not like Black. And you were already popular when we started living together with Marlene, so I don’t think it counts.” Alice cut her off, harshly, and started walking away. “I’m going to my room, see if I can write something.”
Lily silently accepted her defeat and swiftly changed topic. “Pizza tonight?”
But Alice had already gone up to her room, so Lily took it as permission to order whatever she wanted.
She had no clue what Alice’s issue with Narcissa Black was: in the three years she had been living with her, Alice had never given a sign of knowing Black, and Lily could’ve easily thought Alice had absolutely no connection to her.
However, the way Alice became quiet whenever Narcissa showed up on TV and how she’d turn off the radio when Black’s songs were playing indicated otherwise: in Lily’s opinion, Alice was trying really hard to hide her…hatred? No, not hatred-distaste for Narcissa, but her indifference was a too-long practiced craft for it to be genuine.
Lily thought that constantly trying to ignore someone counted as actually thinking about them, and she had therefore concluded that Alice Fortescue was mildly obsessed with Narcissa Black.
Marlene and Frank agreed that there was something going on between the two, or at least there had been, so Lily supposed she wasn’t just jumping to conclusions.
However, whenever they tried to bring it up, they were always shut off by Alice, and, as childish as it may sound, it hurt: Lily, Marlene and Alice had known each other for years, they had shared fears, hopes, secrets. They had never broken each other’s trust, and that was one of the fundamentals of their friendship.
So why was Alice so incredibly jealous of the corner Narcissa occupied in her mind? Was she ever going to let them in?
She would, eventually.
Or at least Lily hoped so.
In the mean time, she had a new singer to focus her attention on: an unknown girl named Mary Macdonald, who performed for the first time with the Narcissa Black, as the closing act of a festival that had sold out probably because of Black. The piece they were going to sing was a fan favourite, Born to Die, so the crowd’s expectations were extremely high.
This Mary Macdonald was either exceptionally confident, or completely mental.
But when she started to sing, Lily was immediately captivated. From the way she walked on the stage, to how she swayed to the music, to the bright smile on her lips when she wasn’t singing, it was impossible for Lily to take her eyes off her. For a few minutes, Mary’s voice seemed like the only real thing in the world, making everything else feel mundane, unworthy of attention.
Narcissa let Mary steal the spotlight, looking at her proudly like she was showing the world a ground breaking discovery. And she wasn’t wrong, because the girl sang for barely five minutes, and yet Lily was already starving for more.
How could Mary fear the eyes of a few thousands of people when she sang like the whole world was watching? How could she feel the pressure of being a guest on another star’s show, when she shone just as bright?
Lily didn’t need much more after that.
She opened her chat with Alice and Marlene.
lil evans: i’m going to sing with Mary Macdonald and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.
lil evans: and we’re having pizza tonight.
~
“Making her sing during that show was completely mental, Cissa.” Amelia was leaning against the desk in front of Narcissa, arms crossed.
It had always been hard for Narcissa to find her intimidating, since they were similar in both age and personality, so she was one of the few who weren’t affected by her signature Amelia Bones Glare. In addition to that, her mischievous eyes and Narcissa’s satisfied smile made the whole conversation feel more like two friends chatting casually, rather than a lecture about Narcissa’s…surprise song. Introducing Mary to a crowd like that had been a bold choice, but neither of the singers regretted it.
Narcissa and Mary had been working together everyday for two months now, 6 hours of practice daily. Narcissa was aware this rhythm was probably unbearable for Mary, who had another job, but the girl had been set on working her ass off to start thinking about her own album as soon as possible, and even when she eventually started working on it, she still spent a quarter of her day singing.
They even spent part of their free time together: considering how much Mary seemed to dread staying home and how discreet she was about her private life, Narcissa had the suspicion her family situation wasn’t exactly the best, so she had been inviting her over to her place as often as possible with the weirdest excuses to give her a distraction.
It’s not like Narcissa could have helped it, she knew what a shit family could do to a person, and she genuinely appreciated Mary’s company, too.
So much, in fact, that she had taken her to perform live for the first time as soon as she had the chance.
“You’re right, Mel, it was crazy. It worked, though,” replied Narcissa nonchalantly, bringing a cigarette to her lips. Thank God Amelia was also a smoker and allowed the occasional cig-breaks indoors, as long as Narcissa had to share. “It’s all the media has been talking about for the past two weeks. Besides, we are going to drop her album in, like, less than a month, some extra publicity can’t hurt.”
“It was her first time singing to an audience, and you made her jump on a stage in front of live cameras,” Amelia cocked her head to the side, eyes wide in amazement. “She could’ve fucked it up, and I wouldn’t have blamed her.”
“But she didn’t,” countered Narcissa, resting her head against the armchair. “Because we talked about it beforehand. Listen, that girl was born to perform, her place isn’t inside a small recording room. I wanted the people to see her for the first time at her best.”
Amelia shook her head with something vaguely resembling fondness. “You really do care about her, don’t you? Pass it.” Narcissa inhaled and handed her the cigarette. She exhaled and watched as the smoke floated in the air, light under the sun rays like a bride’s veil.
“Why did you even agree to introduce her to me? I didn’t know you had such a kind heart.” Amelia commented, eyes squinted towards the window. “Not that I’m ungrateful. I have a lot of hope in Mary. However, you didn’t strike me as the type of woman who wanted to be…a mentor, I guess.”
Narcissa was still watching the smoke leave the cigarette, head tilted back.
She still didn’t know why she’d let Mary into her home that night, months before.
She knew, however, that she hadn’t hoped to make it past 27, yet there she was, not too far from her 28th birthday.
Leaving her parents’ house and throwing herself onto new projects hadn’t magically changed Narcissa’s life for the better, and she’d also found herself completely alone. There was also the fact that she ended up high or drunk way too often to not consider it a problem, although in the past she hadn’t worried about it too much: many great stars died like that, and Narcissa wasn’t too bothered by the thought of joining them.
But then Mary showed up, with her determination and stoic audacity, so set on really owning her life, and made Narcissa realise how scary her indifference towards death was.
In truth, that night Amelia had answered her email almost immediately.
“The album is promising, but there’s a lot of work to do, Narcissa.”
“I know, but I swear, she has it. The spark, I-I felt it. I could help-“
“You have to be able to help, Narcissa. You know what I mean, right?”
She didn’t drink for five days, after that call. And on the fifth day, Amelia gave her a chance, and Mary officially became part of her life. Since then, there had been highs and lows: sometimes she went to Edgar (who was much more empathetic than Amelia, though Narcissa would never say that to her face), and he’d go to her house to throw away her remaining alcohol. Other times, when Mary was willing to drink with her, she let herself take a glass or two: Narcissa’s rule of thumb was drinking one glass less than Mary, and considering that the girl was still wary of drinking more than a few glasses or a couple of shots, Narcissa hadn’t gotten tipsy in two whole months.
“Narcissa? Are you there?” Amelia waved her hand in front of her eyes. Narcissa noted that the cigarette had disappeared somewhere.
“Yes, Mel. Was just thinking.”
“About?” Amelia asked, eyebrow raised, but Narcissa didn’t say anything. She didn’t like talking about her struggles, but Amelia Bones always seemed to read her mind, which was equally endearing and annoying. So, at the silence that followed, she said, “You’re doing better, by the way. Have you told-“
“I’m not going to tell her-“
“NAR-CIS-SAAAA” Mary barged into the room, eyes bulging and breathing heavily. Her arms were open wide, phone in hand.
“Ma-ryyyy?” Narcissa replied in confusion while raising her arms, mimicking the girl. Mary rushed to her and shoved the phone in her face with an excited smile.
“Som-someone just contacted me and you won’t believe-oh, Amelia, you need to see this, too!”
“Stay still, child, you’re moving too much.” complained Narcissa, squinting at the bright screen and wrapping a hand around Mary’s wrist to steady it. Amelia quickly moved closer, read the first few words, and immediately frowned. “That’s a name I haven’t seen in a while.”
Dear Miss Mary Macdonald,
This is Lily Evans, if the email address wasn’t a dead giveaway. I just saw a video of your performance with Narcissa Black, and I must say, you’ve instantly enchanted me. I could spend many words praising your incredible singing, but perhaps it would be more efficient to get straight to the point.
You may already know this, but because of certain circumstances last year, I completely disappeared from the public eye. I will soon make a comeback though, and I was wondering if you wanted to write a song with me to put in the album. Or we could write a single, however you prefer: to be completely honest, this is just an excuse to sing with you.
I’ll leave my phone number, in case you wish to reach out to me <3
Have a delightful day,
Miss Lily Evans
“What do I do, what do I do?” Mary asked leaving her phone to Narcissa and Amelia, their eyes still glued to the screen.
“Well, Evans has a big fan base, a collaboration with her would be great.” Amelia said, still analysing the email like it was a cryptic message from an alien.
“Do you also sense a flirty undertone or am I seeing things?” she whispered.
“I don’t know, maybe she’s just very informal and frien-no okay, now that you’ve mentioned it, I can kinda see it.” Narcissa replied just as quietly.
“Shoot your shot Mary!” she said, smiling fondly at the girl, who was covering her face with her hands.
“But first, consider that Evans has been in the middle of some drama lately. Despite her loyal fans, her reputation has gone to shit during the past year. You know that, right?” Amelia asked, standing up next to Narcissa’s chair.
“…Actually, I don’t.” Mary replied.
“How do you-“ Amelia whispered, appalled. “Well, I’ll send you some links so you can get what I mean. I had the chance to speak to her a couple of times, she’s a good person. A bit fierce and isn’t afraid of speaking her mind, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing,” Amelia got closer and put a hand on Mary’s arm.
“I bet she’ll be a pleasure to work with. If you want I can contact her manager.”
Mary chewed on her lip, deep in thought.
“Fuck it, I’m doing it.” she snapped, getting her phone back from Narcissa, who let out a small ‘ooooh’ as encouragement.
“But I’ll text her myself. We’ll figure out the rest later.”
“I agree. You should also meet her in person, first,” intervened Narcissa, knowingly. “You don’t want to work with someone you don’t get along with. Two artists need chemistry.”
“Mhm…” Mary agreed, distractedly. “I’ll go, then. I just wanted to tell you first, I was absolutely freaking out-“
“Of course you were, it’s Lily Evans we’re talking about,” said Amelia understandingly, “Everyone knows at least one of her songs.”
“…Yeah,” commented Mary, with an unsure smile. “Yes, of course I do. Well, thank you. I’ll see you tomorrow.” The two women watched Mary leave the room, practically bouncing instead of walking.
“So, Mary and Lily…” started Amelia once the room had gone back to quiet, still eyeing the door.
“Apparently.” Narcissa already knew where this was going.
“You know she’s Fortescue’s girl, right?”
“I’m aware.”
“…Interesting.”
“I’m not even looking at you but I can feel your stupid grin. Stop it.”
~
The phone was ringing when Lily got out of the shower: it was rather late, and she wasn’t really expecting any calls. She didn’t recognise the number on the screen, but it wasn’t the usual Unknown Number that meant Snape was trying to get in contact with her, so she accepted the call.
“Hello?”
“Good evening, is this Miss Lily Evans?” greeted a voice on the other side, and Lily recognised with a smile the old-fashioned welcome.
“Well yes, could this be my dear Miss Mary Macdonald?” she replied, just as charmingly. So Mary wanted to work with her, despite everything…maybe Marlene was right, things were getting more promising.
“My my, it may just be her,” then she laughed softly, and it was such a pleasant sound Lily wanted to put it in a song, somehow. “Sorry, I broke character. Anyway, am I disturbing you?”
“Not everyone is born an actor, darling, and no, not at all-“ Lily scrunched her curls with a wet towel.
“Good, because I wanted to tell you I would love to write a song with you,“ Lily saw her smile widen as she looked at herself in the mirror.
“-But I’m afraid we’ll have to wait at least three weeks.” Mary concluded, sounding so sorry Lily couldn’t manage to feel too disappointed.
“Oh, it’s fine, I can be patient. How come we have to postpone our meeting? If I can ask, of course.”
“Well, you see, I’m working on-“
“LILY!” Marlene barged into her room screaming, her brown eyes open wide and blonde hair even messier than usual.
One thing about Marlene is that she never banally entered rooms, she always barged in, slamming doors open and announcing the motifs of her intrusion. It was a rather dramatic habit, but it always made Alice smile when Marlene appeared on top of the stairs, shouted “HUNGRY!”, and set the dinner-making process in action. Lily was just grateful someone in the house never forgot about meals.
“Marlene-“
“PETER IS BACK IN TOWN!” she continued, grabbing Lily’s shoulder.
“Excuse me, Mary, can you hang in there for a minute? I’ll be back shortly.” Lily explained, widening her eyes at Marlene, who quickly covered her mouth with her hands, surprised but not really apologetic.
Mary laughed, “Sure, no problem.”
“I’m sorry…” Marlene smiled as Lily muted herself, although she seemed more enthusiastic than sorry.
Marlene, Peter and James had known each other since they were kids, and being all separated for work matters (Marlene and Peter had always worked solo, while James had formed a duo with Sirius Black when they were sixteen), they were all overexcited when they had an excuse to see each other. The four of them together reminded Lily of those puppies that are perpetually either jumping, running or barking.
“It’s okay. So, Peter is back?” Lily smiled.
When Peter was younger, he used to be really quiet and shy, always getting dragged into trouble by James and Marlene first, and then Sirius, too.
Or at least, that’s what Marlene had told her. Lily found it hard to believe, considering how Peter acted now: he was comfortable on the stage, always ready to joke, in front of thousands of people or with his closest friends alike; he wasn’t necessarily the loudest at a party (that honour went to Sirius and James), but he was still a pleasure to have a conversation (and especially talk shit) with.
“Not yet, actually. He’ll be back this Saturday,” Marlene answered, biting back a smile.
“I bet Effie is hosting a welcome-home party as soon as he gets in town,” Lily continued, remembering how Mrs Potter always found opportunities to gather all her “kids” (as she had nominated James and all his friends) under her roof.
“Oh, it’ll be a big one this time,” Marlene confirmed. “She has already asked me to invite every living being I know. Wait, are you on the phone with Mary Macdonald?”
“Shit, I’m making her wait. Can we talk about this later?” Lily asked, bringing the phone to her chest. Nice first impression, idiot.
“Wait, wait. Invite her, too.” Marlene suggested, wiggling her eyebrows.
“I can’t ask her to come to a party all alone with a bunch of people she doesn’t even know-“
“Then ask her to bring Narcissa, too,” Marlene wiggled her eyebrows more aggressively.
It took Lily an instant. She gaped.
“You sick, sick bastard. Alice will be there. Shit will go down, you know?”
“Why? Alice and Narcissa don’t even know each other,” Marlene batted her eyelashes with an innocent shrug. “Besides, Sirius hasn’t spoken to his cousin in forever, they need to catch up.”
Lily licked her lips thoughtfully and brought her attention back to the phone. A formal party wasn’t the best setting to talk about work, but it was perfect for getting to know someone. And Lily really wanted to get to know Mary. She unmuted herself and brought the phone to her ear.
“Hey, before we continue, are you free this Saturday?”
that was all, hope you liked it and let me know if you want to be tagged when i post updates bc it won’t be that often lmao

why are they acting like hordak and catra were actively fighting? moreover, as if catra was actually in danger and hordak was going to murder her? didn't catra just sneak up on hordak and attack him out of nowhere? or did these people watch a completely different show?
First ask
Jesus Christ, it only gets worse.
Yeah, I rewatched that scene a few times. Catra invaded Hordak's private space as she sat on his throne, she quite literally ambushed him. She took out the lights, disappeared in the dark, and we can see how horrified Hordak looks, until she eventually takes away his literal life support. Hordak was at Catra's mercy here, he could barely fight for his life. He could've straight up died there. He wasn't even the one trying to attack.
While I think in the S4 finale he did try to attack Catra, it was out of rage because IIRC he found out that Entrapta didn't betray him. Besides the fact the Horde was losing to the Rebellion, of course. But I mean, can you blame him? Catra was manipulating him at his most vulnerable state so she could get all the power for herself. She used his love for Entrapta against him.
Basically, that person is ableist as HELL. What the literal fuck. They're using made up shit to justify being ableist. This kind of logic is what literal conservatives say, actually. The moment they spot any bad person who happens to be disabled, LGBTQ+, black etc., they justify their prejudice. But like I said in the previous ask, nobody deserves to suffer prejudice. You should call out their individual actions, not their identities.

I just want to point out when Alicent freaked out and charged at Rhaenyra with a knife because one of her kids cut out her kids freaking eye and absolutely nobody gave a damn people were calling her crazy, irrational, upset over nothing, insisting she should have been immediately killed by Viserys (her husband) that she was a bad mother (for being angry her son was maimed????) that the whole incident was somehow entirely her fault and about a dozen other things.
Daemon chokes Rhaenyra in a fit of rage because she unintentionally hurt his feefees and these same people are bending over backwards to make excuses for him, or even somehow blaming Rhaenyra for making her husband choke her.
....guys, I’m gonna be honest, I think your sexism is showing.
- Note - Since some people are apparently a little confused, let me be clear. I’m not saying Alicent trying to take Luke’s eye was right or justifiable, because OBVIOUSLY it’s not. What I’m saying is there is a marked difference between the vitriol Alicent got for her violent actions, and the wishy-washy “he shouldn’t have done it BUT” handwaving I’ve been seeing from some parts of the fandom regarding Daemon’s.

I swear, in all these Only Friends discourse that has been raging since the finale dropped on Saturday, I wonder if anyone actually took a second to be like: this story is being told through the eyes of 20-21 year old college students. They are the mouthpiece through which this story is being narrated. Is it possible therefore that their age, their lack of experience, their slightly sheltered lives, might play a role in how they navigate their friendships, the world at large and how they react?
Like @jojotichakorn has started several times, and I agree a 100%; this story isn’t a morality lesson. Nobody is saying casual sex bad. You are evil if you’re non-monogamous. Blah blah blah. As a graysexual polyam person who just uses the term queer cuz it’s easier than me having a 30 mins convo with a stranger about my orientation and how everything intersects for me, this show was everything. Cuz PEOPLE ARE MESSY! People are messy and judgemental and annoying. Just because they’re queer doesn’t mean they WON’T be messy. I was especially a fucking shithead at 21. Hell, I was a virgin until I turned 22 (not quite as sanctimonious as Mew, thank SPIRIT!!). Who I am now at 33 is vastly different from who I was over a decade ago. I moved out at 22. Been living on my own for that time. The person I am today is a product of all I have seen and experienced. I lost the black and white lens through which I viewed the world, in that period of time.
And you know what? I do feel that these kids (cuz they are kids to me. I haven’t sat in a university class in almost 13 years 🤷🏾‍♀️), will grow, and learn and evolve. Boston I think will do fantastically well in New York. He will continue to come into his own. Will figure out what kind of relationships work best for him (both in regards to his friendships and his sexual and romantic—if he wants any—relationships), and he will thrive.
Mew will eventually get that stick out of his arse and get off his high horse. He will realize that people are messy, imperfect, and make mistakes, and that he too is flawed. And that is okay. That he doesn’t need to be burdened to replicate the perfect home life he had with his mothers. That hell, just because he fancies himself better than others, doesn’t mean that he isn’t as capable of the depraved things the human mind can conjure up 🤷🏾‍♀️.
Ray will probably battle with his addiction all his life. Will realize that battling addiction is a life-long process. Will lean on the support he has. Will probably learn to forgive his mum, and come to terms with her frailty as a human being, and what that meant with regards her suicide. He will also probably let himself admit that as much as he loved her, and wanted her to hold him and love him, he is justifiably angry at her that she did neither of those things, and then left him. He will probably confront his dad about the role he played, and didn’t play in all of this. He might decide to break up with Sand later. And they will still be good friends. Or Sand might be that ex he hasn’t spoken to in years, yet he still thinks of and smiles when he hears I Wanna Be Yours.
Same goes for Sand, and Top and Nick as well.
And who knows, at some point Cheum might realize that she can be quite the shitty friend. That she’s been a shitty friend. She might reach out to her now former friends, and honestly sincerely apologize. Or not. That’s another thing. Some people take forever to grow. And some don’t learn a lick from their experiences. And when time has passed and they looked back at all their burned bridges and try to reconnect, they are left with hands fluttering in the wind, and everyone they love out of reach 🤷🏾‍♀️.
But yeah. I don’t know about y’all. Maybe you were well adjusted uni students who were always right and knew the right words to say, and didn’t fuck up every other Saturday, and whose lives were peachy. But I was a dumbass, making dumbass choices, being a sanctimonious dumbass, and being an absolute menace. And that was how I watched the show. Knowing that this is a story of these kids, told to us by THESE kids. P’Jojo was just the conduit for their story. But it is ultimately THEIRS. I just watched it for them. Not for any moral lessons (this isn’t a parable or a fable. And I say this as someone who has been fascinated by mythology since I was 7), but to be entertained by the lives of these messy kids, crash-figuring their way to adulthood, and thanking the universe that my early 20s are way behind me, cuz fucking hell. That era of my life was some shit-show!

For the art of atsushi holding a flower, the dahlia representing the, "ability to bloom after many other flowers have died" is so interesting for me for so many reasons. The analogy makes me thinking of difference between Canon and BEAST Akutagawa.
Dahlia’s are considered tender plants that are difficult to take care of because if you treat it too harshly or without proper care, it will decompose and rot, especially in the winter, and even if nothing has been injured or cut away. Something something dahlia’s being tender plants that break so easily representing how Akutagawa has never quite been suited for harshness, how he’s always his best when he’s treated with care—treated with kindness and gentleness and tenderness he’s never been given before. When you treat dahlias carefully with love they won’t rot from the roots up, and when you treat Akutagawa carefully, his despair and rage rots away at him a little less.
It also reminds me of that panel in BEAST where Kenji tells Aku that his friends passed on all their good halves to him. I guess that’s what the metaphor fits. Even in the harshest conditions he’s managed to come out alive—both beast and canon Akutagawa. Not just him and his friends but the countless of people Akutagawa has had to either watch die or kill if it meant surviving another day. He may be rotting from the inside out from a lack of tenderness but he’s survived long enough to become on of the most powerful and terrifying forces in the Port Mafia. This hits deranged territory but consider the cost representing rot.
I think Atsushi wearing the coat and holding (is he giving Akutagawa the flower? I hope he is) the Dahlia is great because it’s almost metaphorical of bearing all of the rot and years of survival that comes with it. Giving the dahlia to Akutagawa the same it’s a symbol of rebirth, a symbol of being able to start anew and be given a chance he never had at the start. They say dahlias are incredibly toxic to felines. It’s funny but there might be a layer to that too.
And I don’t want to just talk about Akutagawa because I think the meaning fits atsushi too but I’m finding it more difficult to draw comparisons more. Something something about how Atsushi is the definition of the a flower able to bloom “even after others have died”. Both because he’s incredibly resilient but he also has no choice but to continue moving forward. The treatment he’s endured since childhood has canonically nearly killed him multiple times. I’m sure it would have killed someone else if they were in his position. Getting mutilated and limbs cut off and thrown into walls and literally everything that has happened to him would kill anybody else. Not only that but it would be a very justifiable villain origin story. Yet Atsushi, although rotting in some places, still manages to survive and grow and not succumb to the forces that spent almost two decades trying to destroy him.
But rot is rot (and I love talking about angst). If the black is rot and white is the healthy parts of a dahlia, then life has been constantly nipping at Atsushi’s roots and his stem until they’re weak, and he’s standing upright out of sheer will alone. You can focus that symbolism in many different places: Atsushi hiding his rot from others with a fresh looking dahlia when he’s on the verge of giving out (but Akutagawa looks withered despite the core remaining vibrantly white. The way they’re surviving are different in a way). Atsushi is not being treated carefully as dahlias should be, because his ability to reverse his wounds makes him sturdy and people forget you still need to be gentle with sturdy flowers.
To sum up everything in an analogy: Akutagawa seems more like a dahlia whose petals are withered and tangled and visibly unpleasant, but reveals are much prettier core if you’re willing to look past it, but nobody (save for very few) bother to put in the hard work. Atsushi is more of a Dahlia that has brilliant—if not a bit limp—petals that distract you from the fact that the roots are decaying and in dire need of care, and even if you see them, they don’t appear to bsd to the eye. So it’s left festering, in a way. Either way, they’re both flowers that require and deserve tenderness but have no access to it.
I just realized: out of all of them from between Canon and the BEAST universe, BEAST! Atsushi is the only one that does not wear anything white, or anything light colored. Canon! Atsushi has his button down. Canon! Akutagawa has his blouse. Beast! Akutagawa wears a light color coat. But beast! Atsushi wears a grey/black turtleneck and a black coat. In regards to the flower analogy, Beast! Aku could be a dahlia that has rotted away for the longest time but is now receiving the care needed to repair (the black shirt, but brown coat). But beast! Atsushi never got any kind of kindness, really. Beast Akutagawa and Canon Atsushi have the ADA to help them. Canon! Akutagawa has Atsushi trying to pull him out of the dark. But Beast! Atsushi’s savior was a man that took him out of hell and placed him into another hell and there has never been room to repair him. At the end, BEAST Atsushi ends up back at hell #1, wearing blue scrubs which do nothing for him because they’re not white, (they’re not even a light blue!) and do not carry the symbolism that comes with white dahlias. Because if we talk about dahlias, blue dahlias do not exist in nature and you have to wonder what Beast! Atsushi would get from staying in the place that features in his nightmares.
I have more things I would say but I’m like. Completely going off tangent. But the idea that dahlias have, “the ability to bloom after other flowers have died” was just interesting to me for many reasons.
This was such a brilliant and spot on analysis Anon, I have barely anything to add!!! I really wish Akutagawa would find someone who would treat him with kindness like he was a delicate flower, as corny as that sounds. Akutagawa having never been suited for harshness is an interesting concept. It sure looks like it, thinking of his frail costitution and eerie presence- sick and ghostly, you know what I mean? Beast is out there to show us that Akutagawa is the best version of himself when treated with love and support. And I feel like a flower with rot in it is a description that fits Akutagawa a lot, because in my opinion Akutagawa is not one with evil as he may appear- more like, he knows what he does is morally reprehensible¹, and I'd even go as far as saying that he wants to do good (although on a very unconscious level he himself could never acknowledge), he was simply never given the chance to. That's why in the end it is fitting to see him as a vulnerable flower that was easily corrupted and thoroughly damaged.
I love the idea of Atsushi giving a flower symbolizing rebirth to Akutagawa!!! I'm insane over it. And the fact that the flower representing Akutagawa is also toxic to felines is so funny afjvakyflakifbv I actually love it it fits them a lot.
I think we should stretch on the fact that dahlias represent the ability to bloom after many other have died. Both Atsushi and Akutagawa survived a childhood where dozens of children just like them didn't make it. I like the interpretation that they should carry on and try to live happy for the friends they lost too, I wish they'd say it to each other. Moreso for Akutagawa, since he still feels responsable for the death of his family. He needs someone to tell him that he too is deserving of happines, because that's what his friends would have wanted.
About Atsushi and Akutagawa's corruption, I think it opens for SUCH an interesting topic. Atsushi's rot is hardly visible and barely transpires, while Akutagawa's rot is evident and striking, but he does hold that white core that goes unnoticed by everyone and yet truly represents his essence, his heart. A whole essay could be written on this, but here let's limit to say that Atsushi and Akutagawa truly mirror each other in the way Atsushi is as selfish as Akutagawa can be selfless, and Atsushi's kindness is as constructed and fictitious as Akutagawa's cruelty is, and they're both carefully crafted for the same reason, that is, to survive.
Beast Atsushi truly is the ultimate damned, isn't him 😭😭😭 To be fair though, I feel like Beast Akutagawa can hardly be considered to be wearing anything light, too... For how I see it, his coat is probably as light as Atsushi's turtleneck. I feel like the Beast universe is overall darker / grittier than the main one, but some kind of solace can be found in thinking they're still in it together.
¹ Way more than Dazai, btw, for whom good and evil never meant anything to begin with.

other anon: “he hangs out with a bad crowd who's a lot older than him and he seems to be quite an impressionable ppl pleaser”
I think people need to look at that for the reality of it then. which is there are 30+ year old people attaching themselves to a (very freshly) 19 year old (who they met at 18 or even younger, so a child), with their own agendas and mindsets. a lot of these people he met on the manipulative propaganda trip earlier in the year where they use his beautiful religion and culture for promo of the country. it’s routine, wasn’t just him doing it. and they’ve kept the contact up. oh you know they love it, freaks leeching off him. and I don’t need anybody saying I’m making excuses for his choices when it’s not the case, I just thought it’s important to note the phrasing in some ways people speak about noah.
because things like “when I was 19 I wasn’t like that” from people mean nothing. congrats I guess! you’re actually still immature for saying that instead of understanding not everyone grows up like you do, so you have some growth to do anyway 😊. statements like that neglect the truth of his age, the fact that it is not the same as all the middle aged people with decades of damage and chances to educate themselves behind them, is he closer to 40 or is he closer to 17? or 14? he is grown enough to make decisions like hanging out with certain people, but that does not stop manipulation and harm done especially for - as other anon said - a people pleaser. I swear people speaking don’t know a thing about indoctrination. has anyone heard of the disease of US patriotism? was that not also bad and shown to be running deep a few years ago? how is that different, especially after an attack that would have the influential adults around you in high emotion likely parroting some ignorant beliefs (because believe it or not, there isn’t a huge jewish population worldwide for uhhh… a pretty well known reason actually! and the fact of the matter is that pretty much everyone knows someone living in isn’treal. many fucking idiots have overblown that attack of course, but the direct emotional ties are real - people just stretched it thin.)
I don’t ask people to justify his actions or make it some parasocial going easy on him situation, it’s just being able to have a wider view of the situation is important and what nobody is doing. instead favoring getting popular tweets and wishing death on him for extremely small things in the grand scheme of politicians and people in govt with actual real influence, or brett for eg. noah is not the person anybody should be prioritizing, he’s an easy target and everybody looks so painfully stupid hating on him daily like that’s doing anything for the cause they all supposedly care about.
don’t even get me started on the amount of antisemitic lean a lot of posts about noah have, that is not or will it ever be ok. you need to learn your history, people, and be careful of dog whistles in your performative rage.
Thank you for the ask.
And you’re right. If we want to be critical about him (which we should be), we have to be critical about the whole situation.
People also seem to forget, that US and Israel are a lot alike. Both are colonizers and their governments are committing actions that are lethal. Yet I don’t see people canceling celebrities who support US.
(I’m aware that the situations are different, but I still think this topic should be talked about more.)
And the age thing is also important to notice here. I was at my dumbest at 19. And while I’d like to believe that age doesn’t matter that much when everyone’s an adult, it does. It just does. I know there were rumours of Noah dating that old guy and there’s nothing to confirm it’s true, but also nothing to confirm it’s not. But if it is true and if he is the ”source” of Noah’s behavior lately, I hope the situation changes.
Very sorry for turning your ask into speculation. But it is honestly a very likely possibility.

Estinien is not an easy man to find, but finally we run into him at the airship landing.
Tumblr media
Uh oh
Tumblr media
To be fair, Alisaie, you and Alphinaud do wear the exact same hairstyle.
Tumblr media
LOL G'raha.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, Alphinaud arrives to save Estinien and explain to him what's going on.
Tumblr media
Alphinaud and Estinein's relationship is so wholesome. They make each other better people, and they make me smile.
Tumblr media
Estinien is on the way to Azys Lla, to speak with Tiamat about this new incarnation of Bahamut. As the original summoner of the primal, she may be able to provide information that can help us deal with this new incarnation. We think this is a good idea, and join him.
Tumblr media
Lol, you two should have met him back in Heavensward. He's practically warm and personable now by comparison.
Tumblr media
Azys Lla has to be my least favorite map. The brown and sickly green lighting puts me in mind of vomit, or industrial contaminants. I suppose both of those are appropriate comparisons for the late Allagan Empire.
Tumblr media
Oh. I. Didn't realize Nidhogg was still with you. Still a part of you. That's got to be difficult. But it's good that you feel you need to be there for Tiamat in Nidhogg's place. Nidhogg's rage and grief were fully justified for what was done to him and his family, it was his choices and actions in the aftermath that went beyond the pale.
Tumblr media
It seems that Fandaniel must have utilized Tiamat and Bahamut's children to summon the primal.
Tumblr media
Omg omg are we finally going to free Tiamat?! I've wanted to break her out of there since Heavensward. Yes yes yes!!!
Tumblr media
Oh damn. She's tempered. If not quite as severely as some others. It didn't occur to me that a great wyrm could be tempered. But hell, if the Ascians could be, why not Tiamat.
Thankfully, we have a treatment for this now.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, gotta remember that nobody else knows that Hydaelyn is a freaking primal, and not just the name of the will of our star. Hey, can we test that tempering cure on me? Not saying I am for sure... but... better safe than sorry?
Tumblr media
While G'raha and Alisaie prepare to cure Tiamat of her tempering, Estinien, Alphinaud, and I (plus a spirit vessel imbued with his blood that G'raha had on him for reasons) search the flagship for a node or terminal from which to control her restraints.
Tumblr media
But before we go and free Tiamat, Estinien has a few questions regarding how we've been handling the Ascians.
And honestly, I don't think there is anything worth salvaging in Fandaniel. He is a man who professes to desire naught but to die and to take the rest of us with him in "a paroxysm of pain and suffering."
But...
Hmm, how do I say this?
Tumblr media
Meeting and dealing with Emet-Selch effected me. He was brilliantly written, and I came to understand and empathize with his plight. I cannot say that, if I had been in his position, I would have done any different. From his point of view, he was entirely justified. He did terrible things, that he knew were terrible, in order to save his people. He was selfless, and sacrificed everything he had in order to save them. In the name of the greater good.
And so, I find I can't so easily dismiss Fandaniel as purely "evil." He must have a motive, a reason for why he does what he does, and I want to know it. He's not crazy, or illogical, and in the brief glimpses we have into his interactions with Zenos, I have become convinced that Fandaniel is manipulating him. And for him to be doing that, there's something he's trying to get or do beyond just what he openly claims to want, and he thinks he can use Zenos to get it. Zenos is too secure in his own power, and too distracted by me to see it. Fandaniel's a bitter, angry, shell of a man. And I want to know why.
Ahem.
Yes.
Anyway.
Tumblr media
With the aid of G'raha and myself, Alisaie manages to cure Tiamat of her tempering.
Tumblr media
And then, finally, after three expansions, Tiamat is freed of her prison.
Tumblr media
And just in time, because Bahamut has been sighted over Paglth'an, at the head of a host of dragons. That's where Arenvald and Fordola have gone. I smell a dungeon.
Tumblr media
And then, like the badass he is, Estinien leaps to Tiamat's back and the two of them fly away to battle.
Tumblr media
We reunite with the rest of the Scions in Ul'dah, where we are joined by Nanamo. The Immortal Flames have been dispatched (along with many of the other Alliance nations' troops) to Paglth'an to defend the Amalj'aa. But it will be a fierce fight, and we are invited to join the fray as soon as possible.
Tumblr media
Incidentally, it appears that Lunar Bahamut may be incapable of tempering people? Which would mark it as different from any primal we have faced before, and also mean it cannot be the entity behind the tempering going on at the towers.
To Paglth'an!

i feel like Rageball Kyle™ is kinda just as bad as Twink Kyle. It is more in character for Kyle than his twink counterpart but like-he’s not a throbbing ball of rage 24/7.
In Doubling Down when Cartman was harassing him over Heidi, Kyle wasn’t the one to start the fight. Eric was. He kept trying to back away because he didn’t WANT to fight. Similar thing in Cartman Sucks. Or Christmas in Canada. Kyle only ever lashes out physically when Cartman starts egging him in to do so. Even Tonsil Trouble, Kyle was absolutely justified in his actions when it came to beating up Cartman and breaking his shit. Cartman gave him HIV.
But Kyle will lash out verbally. He has no problem speaking his mind, but he doesn’t do so in a menacing way (most of the time). Kyle is a lot more patient than people give him credit for. The times he isn’t patient are usually with Cartman, where Cartman says something antisemitic or racist. When people say something that is in Kyle’s mind, morally wrong, that’s when he lashes out.
Seeing him in fics beating up random kids for the stupidest shit is honestly so ooc. Physical violence is his last resort. And he only resorts to it after Cartman aggravates him enough and eggs him on. Only then does Kyle physically lash out.
Kyle has a reason for almost everything he does. He isn’t impulsive.. He usually has a good, moral reason for doing what he does. He’s not some raging asshole, but he’s also not some soft weak baby. There’s a balance and nobody seems to have found it. He is a very rational character and never acts in impulse, but he also doesn’t hold back from sharing his views.
If there’s one thing Kyle relies on, it’s reason. And not enough people realize that.

Hey Jalebi, Do you think Arnav's reaction for Khushi's suicide is right? Because it doesn't make sense does it, A woman who is ready to sacrifice her life so her better half can have a better life with the one she think he loves can possibly carry THE Affair? She was so selfless and crazy and innocent dint arnav see that when she's trying to jump off the cliff? And overall when he revealed truth dint he for a second thought that would make her jump off for real time? Honestly I would have a pushed him off the cliff 😂 after uttering such disgusting things. What would arnav fo if Khushi really jumped off seeing no hope in her marriage 🤷.
Hey Anon,
One of the things I've consistently said in this blog is that I never understood how they came to write the suicide scene. In fact I don't understand why Khushi's emotions post marriage had no importance. When Anjali attempts self-harm, we see the trauma and extent of that moment. When Khushi tries to kill herself... it's comedy?
Why? (This is not to pit the two women, it's just that I never understood the motivations behind writing such a daft scene).
The only sense this could be is Arnav believing Khushi is orchestrating an act and in fact if they were leaning on it they should've showed Arnav being triggered by it and raging on to how that how dare she lie about wanting to kill herself. You just cannot insert comedy here at all.
In fact they could've leaned to dark comedy with Khushi getting so exhausted by Arnav being so kind and so cruel at once that Khushi decides it's easy to say goodbye to the world. It could've been solid dark comedy with Khushi being like she cannot wait for his pain because it increases in each flow. Cause every time he's nice, it's met with even more pain. And this time, after their horrid marriage, she won't be able to bear it so might as well do it herself.
She could've lost her wits and sense of rationale because she was in such an abusive marriage to begin with.
And even if Khushi didn't want to kill herself - the ideation that she believes her husband might kill her, her constant fear of the man she literally sleeps next to, her easily wondering about her death are all grave signs of mental health issues. Just because she doesn't jump off the terrance nor intended to doesn't reduce the gravity in this matter.
And just how does Arnav not get triggered to his past is BEYOND me. They somehow wanted him to get angry on Khushi, be justified in his anger, and be justified that he does not believe her.
Arnav needs to be presented as right, and Khushi needs to keep crying.
Like... it doesn't make sense. Their whole argument as well doesn't make sense. Nothing in this scene ever made sense to me.
The show stopped making sense post Holi when Khushi thought the best thing to do to a man who has complete control over Payal's marital life is to annoy him enough to get him to kick her out of his life when, if annoyed enough, he can ruin Payal's life?
Like literally Akash-Payal's marriage exists with Arnav's approval. Nobody shuts up Mami better than Arnav and thus Khushi annoys him?
What the-
(For me the show made sense again when Khushi sensed Arnav's panic and then when Khushi fell off the cliff and he saved her)
And if Khushi died for real, Arnav would've been devastated.
Also, to be honest, I don't blame him a lot. Because he keeps asking valid questions - WHY would Khushi be quiet about Shyam? WHY would Khushi not tell anyone about this disgusting truth? WHY would Khushi want Anjali to stay married to such a man? The show does such a good job of cementing Arnav's mistrust on Khushi that they give Khushi nothing at all to create a defense or even be logical.
So yeah, that's all I can comment about this and you can read more about this on the following links;
“Suicide” Revelation
The suicide track analysis started by @honeybellexox
Why didn’t Arnav believe Khushi post the suicide revelation?
Shouldn’t have Arnav thought again about what Khushi said on Shyam?
What Arnav would have done if the misunderstanding had not been cleared in the 6 month period. Would he have allowed Khushi to go? And would Khushi stay back?

I think it’s unfair to dismiss PHW’s accomplishments and CV as straight up nepotism.
I know most people are simply grasping at anything they think can stick to paint him in a bad light, and the others are simply bitter and jealous of anyone whose had any ounce of success while they waste away in their mediocrity.
We have to take the antis in context, they’re expressing impotent rage on the internet over someone they don’t know because of a rumour they heard on social media.
They have to ignore logic and proudly claim ignorance in order to maintain their beliefs.
Yes, his mother and father are in the business. Do they separately or collectively have the clout and wealth to convince casting directors to hire their son, regardless of if he were talented? No.
As we’ve seen with the writer’s strike, writers do not have the type of influence say a Hollywood A lister or wealthy executive producer would have.
We should look at the context of their careers before we dismiss PHW’s accomplishments.
Antis love to say he was a nobody before Wednesday, but at the same time comes from a family with such influence and wealth that they get him gigs, awards, AND has influence over the police.
Antis do a lot of mental gymnastics and doublethink in order to justify their vile behaviour.
What I would say, is that PHW has benefited from Nepotism’s cousin, Privilege.
Could his parents have insider knowledge on how to work the system and taught their son to give him an advantage? Probably.
Were his parents well off enough that they could take time to bring him to auditions and not worry about other expenses? Probably.
Could his parents have insider knowledge on upcoming auditions that someone who didn’t work in the business wouldn’t have, and possibly have bags/first dibs? Maybe.
Could his parents have a good rapport with casting directors and others in the business where they would see him an already positive light? Maybe.
We can inherit so much more than just generational wealth from our parents. We can inherit and benefit from their legacy and goodwill. But that’s how networking works. We create good relationships with others in the business and help out friends and family.
Nothing works on pure merit, anyone crying about it is just mad the previous generations of their family failed in this regard.
Are these advantages? Yes. Are they such that PHW shut out meaningful competition? In the context of how competitive the industry is, I would say no.
I think there are others who are much more at an advantage, actual Nepo babies of A listers and Executives, that he’s merely afloat and can compete at all, rather than he just walked to the finish line.
It sucks that some have to literally start from nothing, but that’s not PHW’s fault and I don’t think anyone in a similar situation would turn down the advantages he’s had.
People work with what they have and take any advantage given or presented to them. I do not think he should be dismissed for being born in an advantageous situation, when he took those advantages and did well with them.
He might have had help getting into the door, but the awards and gigs he’s gotten I think are due to his hard work and talent.

The Minstrel and the Star you say??
An incomplete list of the things the light in the sky is the Maglor Fëanorion, once Kánafinwë Makalaurë, in no particular order:
the other end of a leash ever dragging him closer via a spiked collar he set around his own throat
(to please his father)
(out of family solidarity)
(in his own well-justified rage and grief)
(except it is in the sky and he is on the ground and he will never ever be able to get closer)
the light of the last true peace he knew
the light of the last true joy he feels like he knew
the light of a lost innocence
the last shred of his father in this world
the last memory of his happy family in this world
the thing his father died for
the thing his brothers all died for
the thing his father sacrificed them all for
eternally out of reach
a reminder that the Valar will never let the House of Fe4anor have just one little thing
safely out of reach
too holy for his bloodsoaked hands to touch; he knows this exquisitely; the burn never heals and never stops hurting as though it was fresh
once, hope that help was coming
once, hope that they were not wholly forgotten nor abandoned
once, hope that someone, impossibly, survived
(survived Beleriand)
(survived the Sons of Fëanor)
the father of children whom he came to love as his own
the father of children whom he stole over their mother's might-as-well-have-been corpse
the son, grandson, and great-grandson of people he abandoned to die on the Ice
the lord of a people whom he attacked and slaughtered
(who were his own people too, by more distant blood and kinship)
(who were his own people too, but promises made to guard all lands south of the Siege)
(who brought it upon themselves by not giving up the jewel)
the reason his friends are all dead
the reason his loyal followers are all dead
(the sibling of) the thing that killed Maedhros specifically
what Men on the beach sing songs to, when he sometimes creeps close enough to hear them
what Elves on the beach sing songs to, when he more rarely creeps close enough to hear them
what his attention is drawn to every night by the leash still wrapped like a noose around his throat
what he sings songs to, as he does the only thing he was ever truly good at and sings
(as he fulfills his last and final duty of ensuring that the deeds they did shall be the matter of song until the end of Arda)
((a duty to his father))
((a duty to the story and Song in which they live))
((in which they are trapped))
((in which they trapped themselves))
(as he tries desperately to ensure that nobody will ever make the same terrible mistakes)
(as he mourns in the only way he truly knows)
(as he rages in the only way he truly knows)
(as he survives in the only way he can imagine; and he is far too used to surviving to simply stop now. it would be so much more restful to stop now, and he cannot)
the only regular companion he has for 6,400 years
the only person left he ever sees who might remember the things of which he sings - the blood, the blades, even the bright days before all was lost and hope still reigned
hope
(for others)
it moves across the sky, every night but also in longer trends. mind in the past of which he sings, he follows the slow sweeps north and south, and north again. it tarries most in the north. sometimes the only thing he remembers of the present is that he mustn't be found in it (for fear of punishment? as mercy to others?), so he hides, but he follows the star. the only other part of him always resent is the leash of an oath; he lets it lead him once more
(the light above is safe from all the evils of the world; there is no harm it can do)
sometimes he imagines it leads him out of storms, or into safe resting spots. when he's more lucid, he knows this is a delusion
the only person he consistently sees for 6,400 years, two Ages of the World
((a friend))
a promise that there is still light and peace and goodness somewhere far away
(a promise that there is still light and peace and goodness right where he left it so long ago)
rest and resolution forever out of reach
a guide to a new home not for him
a guide to an old home no longer for him
overheard from a sailor: an eternal guide and friend on the open sea, savior of ships otherwise lost
told by an elderly blind woman who thought at first that he was an injured panther: the last thing she could see, before her eyes went completely
overheard from a migrating people who came by the sea every few years: a hero, a cursed sailor, a blessed sailor, a very lost fish, a last hope, a gift
when he drift out of memory, idly following the star as best he can save into the sea, it is most often because he's nearly stumbled into people gain, almost as though the star is leading him to them
(a busybody)
(but it also happens when he's not following the star; avoiding people is most of why he wakes up)
(it gets easier with practice, to be close enough to be heard (or how will they learn from their mistakes?) (or how will the song be truly sung without an audience?) but not close enough to be found)
(and, selfishly, singing keeps the ghosts away, because if they're memories then they can't be ghosts)
a ghost
a star, and elves have always loved stars
salvation
(for others)
forgiveness (because they were forgiven, right; everyone else got to go home, it was just the two of them who refused the last bargain-)
(for others)
a symbol of how it was all in vain
a symbol of how it was all worth it
the only constant for two Ages of the world
forever (safely) out of reach
forever (bitterly) out of reach
forever (yearningly) out of reach
forever (lonely) out of reach
an audience
convenient lighting on uneven footing
for others
Thing Eärendil is, in no particular order:
an audience, to all of the above, able to stop listening if he wants but always able to hear if he wishes. able to see if he's close enough and the clouds aren't thick
compassionate
prone to sympathy
la little bit lonely sometimes as well

oof yeah, i don't claim to be an expert in og, especially not having played the game or experienced the fandom, so i definitely stand corrected that og leon and ashley's connection wasn't as profound. i'll concede that my take on it was through a retroactive lens — i know ashley disappears from the franchise post-re4, and my interpretation of the og game is shaped by that knowledge
either way, it definitely sucks that she had to pretty much be erased from the narrative because of negative fan reaction, but i'm very glad they were willing to take another shot at bringing her back. so far fan reaction this time for ashley has been pretty overwhelmingly positive, so i definitely hope that we get to see her again in some capacity, or at least be name-dropped as a reminder that she still exists
(still trying to manifest the whole "leon wears ashley's necklace as a memento" deal that you touched on)
Dude, I laughed so fucking hard when Infinite Darkness showed that photo of Ashley, because it was like... IT WAS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS that Capcom dropped that in there to just be like "hey guys... we're releasing RE4 Remake soon... I want you to remember she exists before we release it so that you get your rage out now, ok????"
I bet it was a real relief for Capcom execs when the fanbase basically had a non-reaction to her in ID. I feel like I was the only person who even mentioned it at all when ID came out LMAO
BUT ANYWAY FUCK ALL THAT SHIT I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE NECKLACE THING AGAIN
It never goes away. Even years later, he's still wearing it.
He only takes it off to shower -- and even then, not always. It comes with him on every mission, just tucked away behind the neckline of his shirt for good luck (and the physical reminder of the girl he saved who still thinks the world of him).
Ashley's heart swells every time she opens the buttons of his shirt and finds that little dove still sitting there right below the hollow of Leon's neck. And of course he wears it when he fucks her aRE YOU KIDDING ME OF COURSE HE DOES
If it ever slips out from under his shirt and out into the open, he won't talk about it -- because it's nobody's fucking business. Even if someone asks him, "Is that your girlfriend's?" he just answers with "I don't have a girlfriend." and refuses to say anything more.
And he's not lying. That's not what Ashley is. If she was his girlfriend, he'd probably talk to her way more often than once every few weeks, and he'd definitely see her more often than a handful of times a year -- if that.
But he refuses to put a label on their relationship, because he knows that if he tries to, his thoughts will inevitably brush up against the L-word, and that's not something he can afford to feel. Not in his line of work.
And he especially can't wonder if she feels the same way back, because if she did, it would suddenly become a whole lot harder for him to justify throwing himself at near-certain death on a regular basis. At least for now, he still needs to be expendable.

Babe you said you wanted comments and I love being a cheerleader so have a comment so thought through that I'm a little embarrassed (I literally took notes)
The loneliness that is getting invited to your mum's book club.
Nancy being heartbroken about not being invited 💔
Hard relate to thinking 'what is the most normal way to do something' in a social situation.
Also Nancy's allowed to be angry anyway but when you add wet socks? Unhinged feral rage justified.
If I was at that party I would absolutely have walked in on them because I'd be like, where snacks??? Except I probably would have followed in the first instance because the pretty girls went to get snacks so that's where I need to be and then they would never have banged so basically I'm glad I was not written in.
Giggling at the idea of Nancy smashing the peanut butter BC robin suggested it was an inappropriate snack.
'Her arms were pink up close, from the sun, and Nancy wanted to grab onto her biceps, her wrists, just grab them and let go and then watch her handprints fade away. Which was insane, of course. And which was par for the course, of course.'
Nancy angry at the fridge? fan art, someone, please.
Obsessed with Nancy checking out Robins legs like damn 😍 she has no musculature and she runs stupid, that's hot
Robin being like yeah the bowls are here where I'm blocking you from getting them and doing nothing to remedy that... her mind
Nancy not knowing what to say and just slut shaming robin 💯
'I need to get in there' 👀
'Robin swallowed and Nancy watched it happen. She couldn't feel it, the movement of her throat, from where her fingers were, and she was jealous of that too.' 🥴😩💓
The idea that in their blossoming relationship Robin will look at Nancy's facial expression and not be sure if she is about to commit a crime or fuck her silly 🤌🏻
'That she could have been the one to invite Robin over, that Robin almost definitely would have come if Nancy had only asked. Robin's hands were on her face and her breath was in Nancy's mouth and Nancy was standing between her legs surrounded by the heat of her, wondering if Robin would come now if she asked.' 😩😩😩
'Left to her own devices she wound up doing things like taking on the federal government to avenge her friend's death' happens to the best of us x
I think my favourite line is 'Nancy wanted to rub up against the sound of it.'
Favourite ronance canon trope is robin doing anything Nancy asks her (sexual)
Thank you for feeding us!!
Oh wow thank YOU for feeding ME. <3<3<3
I will address your concerns in list format! Under a cut because this is so long! Which I am not complaining about at all for the record this is making my day!
You know Karen's book club is awful, too. Straight romance novels every month and they just get drunk and complain about their husbands.
No but for real the loneliness of summer vacation when you are in-between friend groups? It's been 25 years but I remember this so vividly 😭 I did not fuck anybody in a kitchen about it though unfortunately.
I think Nancy is often kind of Performing Normalcy in the show and I think being profoundly lonely on top of that makes it very how-it-felt-to-socialize-when-covid-precautions-started-to-let-up. She's trying so hard!
Wet socks are the worst. Anger intensifies.
My excuse for nobody walking in was first of all just that its my story and i didnt want them to, but besides that im like, well nobody asked for snacks actually, and the boys are swimming in the pool and steve is working on his tan. And tbh they probably weren't even in there that long. Anyway they thank you for not interrupting them!
I almost had her pull down a can of Bush's Baked Beans instead of the peanut butter but it felt like very niche fanservice so I refrained.
The sunburn stuff was just there to add specificity and make it feel more tangible. I am trying to trick you into imagining what it feels like.
Nancy standing in front of the fridge mad about being short is so funny to me i can see it so clearly in my mind 😂 She's so mad already and now she's too short to reach the chips?? The disrespect.
I am a Robin-was-terrible-at-soccer-and-only-played-one-season-because-her-parents-forced-her truther. I am also a girls-with-soft-legs-are-cute truther.
Robin was 100% fucking with Nancy re: the bowls. I don't think she fully understood the *way* she was fucking with Nancy, but she definitely knew it was riling her up and she leaned into that on purpose just to see what would happen.
Nancy truly does know better than to slut shame anybody but she also does NOT know how to say "you look so good i want to scream" so uh RIP her principles this one time i guess.
The "I need to get in there" bit was just fun to write. I stand by it. I love that shit.
Throats are sexy. That is all I have to say about that.
I'm pretty sure Robin already has a pavlovian response to Nancy's Felony Face but yeah from here on out she's toast.
That line is probably a little over the top but nobody is probably reading angry kitchen smut for the subtlety so again I stand by it!
It's true though, whenever Nancy has nothing to do she MAKES something to do. Luckily for the federal government she now has something to do (Robin.)
Thank you! I also like that line a lot!
This is also my favorite trope for them 🙏
