Nico knew that canoeing was a bad idea, yet somehow he ended up in the middle of the sound once again. It of course was Wills idea. He and his love for athletic hobbies, Nico would preferred to watch a movie or stayed indoors. But here he was in a canoe.
It’s not like he hated canoes or anything, he wasn’t anti-canoe or whatever. It just happened that every time they rowed out onto this lake something went wrong.
The first time was when they had just started dating. Will had meticulously prepared and over the top date that made Nico feel like his bones were going to jump out of his skin. An image that frequently appeared in Nicos mind for some reason. Unfortunately the date was ruined when a swarm of bees decided to take interest in the honey and peanut butter sandwiches Will had made. They capsized in seconds.
Of course they decided to give it another shot, after Will promised no more honey. And everything was fine, at least it was until a giant statue of Apollo crashed into the water almost drowning the both of them. Looking back, it was definitely a sign for the chaos that followed Apollos arrival at camp.
Still, somehow, Will had managed to convince Nico that this time would be different. The word convince meaning he gave a smile to Nico and all of his stubbornness melted into a puddle of adoration. But of course Nico wasn’t going to admit that.
Instead with each row of the paddle he silently cursed himself for his disgusting obsession of his boyfriend. Each day he impressed himself with how much of a cliche he was. The moments when he’d see something and think Will would like that. Or when something like a yellow flower or particular glare from the sunlight reminded Nico of his smile, a grin that was slightly uneven but set loose butterflies in Nico’s stomach every time he had the pleasure of viewing it. Gods he was so gross. This was totally against his image. Cheesy guy head over heels for his boyfriend? Yeah, no. Those were not the vibes he was trying to emit. Still he never held himself back from his affection, he just didn’t let people see it. Or he thought he did.
When Nico looked up he was almost blasted out of the canoe by the most breathtaking sight. Will had been looking at him, an adoring half smile spread across his face. The sunlight reflecting ever so slightly from his eyes. His blonde hair fell recklessly in his eyes, rustling as a breeze passed by and his face was flushed slightly pink. Which Nico tried to convince himself was sunburn even when knowing how that wasn’t possible for a son of Apollo. Honestly, Will was effortlessly beautiful and he didn’t even realize it. From his freckles to his sun kissed skin he was perfect.
Will titled his head in curiosity as he watched Nico stare, “What?” He said as his smile grew bigger.
Nico heart did ten jumping jacks seven pushups and took a few laps in his chest. “N-Nothing.” Nico lied, the stutter being the selling point.
Will laughed, a sound that blessed Nico’s ears, it was like hearing liquid gold. “You’re cute.”
Nico tried his best to glare at Will, it turned more into a flustered glance. “Okay nightlight.”
“You’re turning red Nico,” Will smirked. He looked proud of himself, it was so attractive.
Now that inner comment caught Nico so off guard it almost made him audibly scream.
“Shut up please Solace,” Nico said. But he couldn’t hold back his smile. Revenge time, he thought. “You know…” Nico paused looking into Wills eyes for a moment too long. He’d long forgotten his paddle, dropping it to the side of the boat as he leaned forward to brush a strand of Wills golden hair from his face. “You might be cuter.”
A quick look of surprise danced across Wills face as the pink flush turned deeper. He blinked, and then blinked again before opening his mouth to speak and then closing it. It was a moment of speechlessness that Nico reveled in. But of course it didn’t last long.
Wills expression soon changed to delight as he smirked, “What about me do you think is cute?”
Nico’s smile dropped. He failed to realize that Will was the king of flirting and would somehow one up him each time. It was probably an Apollo kid thing. Dramatics, romance or whatnot. But Nico was determined to win so he said something cool like, “Um...”
Will giggled leaning forward, they were now extremely close and Nico was hyper aware of his breathing and well, everything else too. “Speechless huh?” Gods the look on his face was so attractive Nico wanted to tattoo it onto the back of his eyes. Woah, too far.
“N-no?” Another killer reply good one Nico, he thought. It took all of his willpower not to shrink into an embarrassed ball on the bottom of the canoe.
Will placed his hands on the sides of Nicos face, he too had forgotten the existence of his paddle. “How can I be cuter when you’re already the cutest?” He asked in a soft voice as his eyes sparkled like gems.
Nico tried to rack his brain for something to say but all he found was a puddle of thoughts. His mind had melted the second Will had touched him. His hands were so warm. He could feel the warmth spreading throughout his body turning him into incoherent mush. He was so in love with Will it was embarrassing.
“I win.” Will placed a peck on Nicos nose lightly.
Those words triggered Nico’s competitive side and he suddenly felt the unwavering need to win. His body moved before he could think as his hands moved to the back of Wills neck and he pulled him in for a kiss.
He could feel the surprise on Wills lips, then he felt the curve of a smile as Will kissed back. He was filled with a warmth that spread throughout his whole body. Nico thought about how impossibly soft Wills lips were as he ran his fingers through his hair. It took all of his mental strength to pull away, but as he did Will leaned forward as if he yearned for the kiss to continue. This pleased Nico more than he’d like to admit.
“No, I win.” He whispered brushing his thumb against Wills bottom lip.
Will stared at his lips then moved his eyes up to meet Nico’s. He stared for a minute, then a minute longer before a sly smile spread across his face. “You sure about that?” He said before rapidly kissing Nico all over, his forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, slowly moving down his neck.
Nico giggled, squirming but not making any effort to pull away.
Will paused for a moment keeping his lips close to the side of Nico’s neck, “Do you give up yet?” He whispered, knowing his breath would send chills down Nico’s spine. He could feel his words reverberating throughout his whole body.
Nico took a shaky breath, opening his mouth to speak but he was cut short by a realization, “It’s leaking.”
“Your heart?”
“No idiot the boat!” Nico tone was twinged with surprise as he pushed Will lightly.
Will looked down to see the puddle forming on the bottom of the canoe, “Oh..”
“Oh?!” Nico looked at Will in exasperation, instantly regretting coming out onto these Gods forsaken waters.
“Thats not good huh?”
“Duh! What do we do?!” Nico began to look for the paddles which had drifted a distance away, now bobbing peacefully in the soft waves.
“Great question babe.” Will looked around the canoe as if looking at it would magically fix it.
“Would be even greater if it had an answer,” Nico replied. He wondered if he was cursed when it came to water, it would make sense, Poseidon hated Hades after all . It was a short thought he had no time to linger on, but its briefness stung with a familiar pain.
“I think we have to abandon ship,” Will suddenly said.
“We what now?”
“Either we sink with it or escape while we still can,” He spoke as if he’d already made up his mind that this was the best option.
“Great.” Nico replied.
Will grabbed his hand as they both shakily stood up, careful not to capsize the canoe. Not that it would’ve mattered.
“In 3…2…1!” Will called out before they both plunged into the cold waters.
As Nico hit the water and the darkness washed over him, he realized he did in fact hate water. Well, not necessarily being on or near water, he hated being in it. It was cold and dark. Two things extremely prevalent in Nico’s life yet the combination that water brought reminded him of his deepest memories. He couldn’t drown in those right now, because he was too busy trying to actually not drown.
He floundered a bit at the surface, he was never good at swimming. He hadn’t actually learned until somewhat recently and he was a beginner at most. Will sensed Nico’s panic and he began to reach out so they could swim to the shore together. He could feel the nervousness start to dissipate as he looked at Will.
Then everything went dark.
Nico thought he had passed out, that was until he felt the salty water rushing into his mouth. This was when he realized he was being pulled down by something, or someone.
He looked down and in the darkness where he could barely make out a hand grabbing his ankle. He resisted the urge to scream, well more like he couldn’t scream as his lungs were quickly filling with water. He tried to regain his composure, realizing that if he didn’t he would drown. Slowly he forced his arms against the current as he reached for the arm, if he could just get it to let go. As soon as he grabbed the creature he knew immediately it was a spirit, a spirit which promptly turned its head revealing several rows of sharp teeth. Then in a split second a searing pain rolled up Nico’s arm, it bit him. The dark water turned a tinge of red, spiraling out in swirls and eerie patterns.
Nico almost let go. But he wasn’t going to let a spirit be what killed him, he hadn’t earned the title Ghost King for nothing.
As Nico lungs screamed for air he ignored the pain and gathered the rest of his energy, still gripping the spirits arm he willed the spirit to dissipate. Suddenly he was no longer being pulled down, but that also meant he had to now swim back up.
Fear filled his body like the water in his lungs. It was so dark. It was so cold. He was going to drown.
Then he saw a splash of light, a yellow glow from above him as a hand reached out. He grasped at the hand, feeling the familiar warmth pull him towards the surface.
He came up coughing and gasping for air as Will desperately tried to keep them both above the water.
“Oh my gods- Nico what was- that,” Wills voice was mixed between splashes.
Nico couldn’t answer as he was too busy trying not to choke to death. He thought they would never make it to shore but soon Will was pulling him out of the water.
“It’s okay, just breathe.” Will said putting his hand on Nico chest, he felt his lungs expand as his breathing became clearer.
“Gee, wish I’d thought of that.” Nico replied still hanging on to his sarcasm despite almost dying seconds ago.
“Are you okay? I- What happened - You- Oh gods Nico your arm,” Will stuttered before his face filled with concern.
Nico had forgotten about that, he was almost shocked to see the wound was much worse than he initially thought it was. Instead of a small bite it was a bunch of large gashes cut deeply in his skin. It was like a shark with knife’s for teeth had bitten him.
“Dam,” Nico said as the blood dripped from his arm making staining the sand with a dark red color.
“Infirmary now.” Will said grabbing Nico by the not chewed up arm. His tone was urgent and so was the look of concern, which was probably better described as pain, that was splashed across his face.
They were halfway there when Nico stumbled, almost losing his balance as a wave of dizziness hit him like a semi truck.
Will reacted quickly slinging Nicos arm around him and holding his waist as he carried most of his weight. Nico didn’t know if it was a result of the blood loss, the use of his powers, or the almost drowning. Probably a combination of all. But he couldn’t focus, the world was blurring together as he thought about the darkness of the water. He could see the image imprinted in his mind of Wills hand, glowing, reaching towards him to save him. Will literally and figuratively pulled him out of the darkness. Turns out a near death experience makes Nico feel really poetic. Or maybe he was just delirious.
They reached the infirmary, Will rushing to grab bandages and nectar as soon as he sat Nico down. His whole arm was drenched in blood now, he had been sure the cut wasn’t that serious. The nectar stung his skin as the bleeding stopped. Nico felt a rush a strength before his mind cleared and the blurriness faded.
Will looked at him with a subtle fear in his eyes, not against Nico but for him. “What did this?”
“I don’t know,” Nico replied as his eyes moved over the cuts. “A water spirit maybe? Something like that. I didn’t see its face, it was too dark.”
Will sighed, “I should’ve known we were too far from the barrier. Of course the water would be more prone to monsters.” He scolded himself in frustration as if he were somehow to blame.
“It’s not your fault Will, neither of us expected that to happen.” Nico said softly as Will delicately wrapped the bandage around his arm. Usually the way his hand would move in expertise as if bandaging was an art mesmerized him.
But now his hands slightly shook, “I shouldn’t have made you come out onto the water with me. You were right, it always goes wrong. But instead of listening I made you do it anyways.”
Nico grabbed Wills hand and looked up at him, an expression of reassurance across his face. “You didn’t make me do anything.”
“I know but-“
“But nothing,” Nico cut in. “I chose to go with you because I wanted to. End of story.”
Will sighed. He brought his head down resting it on their hands.
“I’m okay,” Nico softly spoke, “and you’re okay.”
Will nodded looking up at Nico, his eyes slightly shining. Whenever Nico would get hurt Will would always look like he was in pain too. Whether it was something big or small. Will seemed to feel it twice as hard. It was as if seeing Nico in pain was the worst thing physically possible for Will. Nico felt guilty for always being in pain.
A breeze from the infirmary air conditioning blew past, and Nico shivered. He hadn’t realized how cold he was until now. Will was soaked himself but still he rushed to grab a towel, draping it over Nico’s shoulders.
“I’ll grab clothes, you need to change before you catch a cold.”
“You too.” Nico said as Will was opening the door.
“Right.” Will replied almost as if he hadn’t thought about that.
When Will left Nico was met with a sense of silence. The infirmary was empty. Rare, but it made sense as it was nearing spring and most campers were at school or doing whatever non-summer campers did.
In the silence, Nico thought about being dragged into the depths. The tugging sensation had been so familiar to the one he’d felt many years ago. That same darkness as he was dragged deeper and deeper down somewhere he’d never wanted to go. The feeling had been so identical it made him sick. But this time he had Will to pull him up. Will who lost all self preservation when it came to Nico. Will who cared so much about Nico that it scared them both. He didn’t want Will to drown in his thoughts like he had, he wanted to be his light, to pull him from the darkness too.
A drop of water fell from his hair and hit the ground, just as the door opened and Will rushed in. He hurriedly told Nico to change and Nico made sure to remind him to do the same.
Finally being in dry clothes brought a pleasant warmth throughout his body. But his hair was still dripping wet, chilling his neck as each drop made its way down his face. He noticed that somehow Wills hair had mostly dried already, another mysterious Apollo thing, Nico assumed.
Another drop of water fell from Nico’s hair and hit the ground.
Will noticed and frowned, putting a towel on Nico’s head, he stood while Nico was sitting on the infirmary bed. Will ruffled the towel, making a mess of Nico’s already unruly hair.
After a moment he stepped back and asked, “Is that better?”
Nico shook his head.
Will scrunched his brows in confusion before Nico suddenly wrapped his arms around Wills waist, pulling him closer.
“That’s better,” Nico said. His voice muffled as he buried his head in Wills shirt.
He could almost hear Wills smile as he leaned into the hug, they both shared the warmth of that moment for what seemed that forever.
Nico wanted Will to feel warm too. He wanted to be a light for him. Whatever darkness or pain Will had, Nico wanted to erase it all. Maybe he couldn’t do that. But he could be here, in this moment, so that’s what he did.
After a moment he moved back, looking up at Will. It was a breathtaking sight to say the least. The way Will looked down at him with a warm smile. It was like looking directly into the sun except Nico couldn’t look away. His eyes danced like diamonds and Nico realized what it felt like to be truly loved.
“I love you Solace.”
“I love you too.”
That day Nico thought that maybe canoeing wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
The new scars on his arm may disagree.

🐚 Daughter of Neptune headcanons list 🌊 part one..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: I've never done a pjo hcs post like this with the aesthetic pictures and everything- but I've been Itching to make a daughter of Neptune one, since I consider myself as a Neptune child. So this is sort of a self insert haha, and I thought it'd fun cuz I have so many hcs abt this, I've only over seen ppl do a daughter of Poseidon one.
Also this one has reader x Jason Grace as romantic pairings, but it isn't the main focus. Like I said, this is a self insert, and I love my bb jason ;) + imagine having Percy as a big brother, goals fr
• Okay so you'd come to Camp Jupiter at the age of 8-9, so you definitely have a considerable amount of childhood before you came to camp. Which only made it harder for you to adapt to the barbaric ways the Roman camp worked.
• Also, Since Neptune was not a very respected Roman god, your arrival was considered bad luck. Octavian made you go through an intense trial (that motherfucker was like 10 years old and an augur, and was already such a bitch lol) + forced a newly elected praetor Reyna (who was also just 10 at the time) to hold a senate meeting before you were even offered a position at camp.
• Neptune is very feared by the romans though, since he represented the harsh brutality of the ocean, so you got the Roman Nico di Angelo treatment from camp. Everyone was scared of you, flinched when you walked passed them. this was to your advantage tho, since you never got bullied, mostly out of fear.
• so Neptune temples in Camp Jupiter are only taken care of by you, if you left for a quest or something then the shrines would be in such a horrible state, bc no one cares enough to offer Neptune anything or even clean up his shrine. You'd do the cleaning and offering.
• and the worst part? Your dad wouldn't even notice you even after your efforts.
• okay, your powers are quite similar to Percy's butt I feel like since Roman/Greek siblings always have powers that compliment eachother, you'd have better control over the earthly side of the domain. Like you can cause longer earthquakes, control seismic waves, and make volcanos erupt + cause bigger avalanches, Stuff like that.
• Your water control was actually a little limited, up until Percy arrived and helped you enhance your powers. And you helped enhance his control over earthquakes, since his earthquakes usually only lasted for a few seconds, his dad is more water dominant. So when you met him, you knew he was a missing puzzle piece in your life. You'd even be able to communicate telepathically to Percy underwater, a power you both never knew you needed.
• Seriously tho it would be hilarious to look at, bc to the others, you both sound like squeaky dolphins but in reality you are just telepathically speaking with one another. The others wouldn't understand, and poor Frank would be so confused as to why you both are making strangled fish noises
Leo would troll you guys so bad for this lol
• your eyes would actually be black. Not blue, not sea green, just black. Your eyes would literally glitter like black obsidian rocks. because Poseidon is the calm side of ocean, hence sea green eyes for Percy, Neptune is the dark and scary side of the ocean, so that's black eyes for you. that difference would clearly reflect in your guys's eye colours AND personality (I'll expand on this more in part 2)
• but your scariness comes with a downside, you had no friends. No friends, except Jason and Reyna. it's just your dad's naturally strict aura surrounding you that makes your overall personality a Lil grumpy and moody tbh. You did have such a resting bitch face that wasn't helping either.
• Jason, being the noble boy he was, knew you were going to be his friend the moment you made a dramatic entrance to camp for the first time, getting scouted by the waves to New Rome. He knew what it was like to have a powerful, scary dad, but he acknowledged and empathized that you had it harder than he did. He was considered a golden boy, while you were considered a scary bad luck charm. But regardless of that, Jason was your first best friend. And eventually, your boyfriend.
• Reyna on the other hand, badly wanted to befriend you because she admired your mental strength, you were 9 years old and you were openly scoffed at by the legionnaires simply because your father was a scary man. Yet you handled it all so well. But she befriended you a little later than Jason did. Since she was so busy, she barely had any time to chat with anyone. You, Jason and Reyna bonded as a trio when you guys had your first quest.
• Reyna secretly shipped you and Jason from the very beginning lol, bc a Jupiter x Neptune union? Y'all were powerful and cute af together. The mutual pining drives her crazy though, like kiss already smh.
• Also, Nicknames! Your nickname was ALWAYS "kelp head" because your hair was wavy and shaped like seaweed lol. As much as you hated to admit it, the name fit a little too well.
• okay enough with the friendship stuff, let's talk about how much that bastard Octavian makes it his mission to make your life a hellhole. It isn't even funny anymore, he hated you from the very beginning. Not only because you were considered bad luck, it's because he envied that you were a direct descendant of such a powerful God, he couldn't even handle Jason's arrival, yours was just the last straw for him. He opposes your opinions in front of the whole senate + prevents you from getting elected as Centurion + attempts to prevent you from going on quests, bc he can't handle someone else taking the glory.
• He was also the reason you were put into the unpopular twelfth legion. The underdog legion. But Jason? That sweetheart made it worth being in the twelfth legion so you weren't complaining tbh.
• honestly? Octavian and you are famous in camp for your bickering though lol it's just always a back and forth between you and him, such burning rivalry and enmity. You LOVED roasting him and you were fucking great at it too. He deserved that for making you go though hell. You'd laugh like a maniac when he trips and he smirks when has the upper hand against you in senate discussions.
• Reyna is the only reason you both didn't beat eachother up at this point tbh
• once, Reyna came running up to you all panicky because Octavian went missing from camp. In response, you beamed and told her that you'd get the balloons ready in the dining hall for a grand celebration. Jason would burst out laughing lol.
• you'd steal his teddy bears and give them to younger campers, asking them to hide it from octavian. So the younger campers absolutely adore you, unlike the older ones.
• you are also quite the rebel in camp, JUST like Octavian predicted you would be, when you first came to camp. It was actually written in his auguries that the new child of Neptune arrival would be always shafting the rules, since the sea can't be controlled. It's in a nature for a Neptune child to walk their own pace (lol have you seen Percy??) That gave another reason for him to hate you.
• Even some of the lares in CJ would call you an abnormal roman bc you never acted like one. You were wild and temperamental.
This rule breaking tendency you had did earn you lots of punishments that included scrubbing the whole camp with a toothbrush. But it was worth it for you. Camp Jupiter sucked. And you were already in trouble, so what's a little more, right?
• you'd sneak out at night to explore New Rome, because again, the Romans had this weird bedtime curfew like. they have rules for every. Fucking. Thing. It pissed you off so bad. They wouldn't even let you explore the city at night? They were seriously wasting the beauty of the city, You'd definitely rope Jason in to break the rules with you. Like don't be such a goody two shoes smh. I feel like that's what attracted him to you in the first place. He's a goody goody boy with such a boring life, youd just make it interesting for him.
• besides, sneaking out is SO much easier when you can fly. So Jason is your personal airplane. The Jason Grace airlines.
• okay so after all your hardwork in the legion, you'd finally get elected to Centurion, after you successfully finished a quest to retrieve a lost Roman artifact, which was formerly Jason's position and he would become a co praetor with Reyna. But you were still very much disrespected in camp tbh, it just became an internalised thing for everyone to hate you at this point, Octavian was also great at putting your reputation under dirt, but you didn't really care anymore.
• now here comes the catch, Jason and you were sort of in a half-pining half-relationship situation, Before that jerk goes missing. because neither of you knew how to confess, and camp was SO strict when it came to relationships for some reason?? Like even dating has to be lowkey.
• you and Jason are totally the grumpy x sunshine trope lol except you're the grumpy, snippy and batshit one and jason is calm, levelheaded and optimistic one.
Perfect balance. Gosh your dynamic would be so cute :(
• you'd just be grumpily stomping around while jason stalks behind you, laughing lightly. You're super short compared to him aswell, so yeah it makes it funnier.
• You were in charge of welcoming Hazel to camp, since Jason and Reyna had some serious meeting stuff about the new prophecy Octavian told them about.
• poor hazel would be scared to death while meeting you, not just bc it's you, it's bc she just came back from the dead, so this is all rlly new for her.
• That's where you met him. Nico di Angelo. You'd bond over your shared mistreatment in camp. So you became homies w him fairly quickly. He saw you as this cool big sister he could have happy meals with talking abt life.
• you would be a little curious when he keeps disappearing off to somewhere tho, you knew he was lying about where he came from.
Okay part 1 of this is done, this was so long lol, part 2 would drop later, that's where you and Percy meet and stuff.
Update: part two is out! https://www.tumblr.com/somewhereinhogsmeade/746489087922520064/daughter-of-neptune-headcanons-list-part-two?source=share

Wing hcs for the seven (+reyna and nico). Because I got bored and they should have wings.
Jason- Swan. Specifically the wings of a trumpeter swan. Large, majestic, maybe a little tragic, pure white and just benefiting of a son of Jupiter and praetor of the legion. He probably spends hours after battle grooming the blood/monster dust/dirt out of them and it’s one hell of a self soothing habit by that point.
Piper- White-Tailed Kite. She’s probably the fastest of the seven, constantly has people asking if she’s got dove wings and it’s lowkey grating on her nerves. It’s a kite, not a glorified pigeon thank you very much. Her and Jason will take turns grooming each other’s feathers though, and it’s lovely bonding time for them both.
Leo- Common Raven. Either signifying knowledge/innovation or the burden of being omened by death, your choice. Who am I kidding, he definitely sees them as bad luck. Clipped on one side from a foster home or possibly when he had a runaway attempt from wilderness camp. Rarely has them out, and stress tears out his own feathers.
Annabeth- Barn Swallow. Kind of plain, but she just lies half the time and says that she’s got owl feathers. Post Mark of Athena, she’s more proud of them and her place among her peers with more exotic wings. Also Percy’s the only person with blanket permission to touch and groom her feathers. Also has a stress tearing issue, but her siblings and partner are good at catching her before she can damage herself too badly.
Percy- Common Kingfisher. Still good for flight, but also allows him to dive and hit the water without worrying about not being able to surface afterwards due to being waterlogged. Bit redundant since he can dry himself off anyway thanks to Poseidon powers but the point still stands. Plus, they’re blue and he’s absolutely chuffed that they are.
Frank- *insert american bald eagle jokes* jkjk. Red-Tailed Hawk. Although he didn’t get his adult feathers until he unlocked his shapeshifter abilities and matured there. He can also change his wings to different ones when he concentrates but it always feels a touch off, so he sticks with the wings he was born with.
Hazel- Golden-Winged Sunbird. Pretty! Unique! Gave her a lot of shit for it in her first life because of course the cursed girl with the death jewels had gold wings. She’s gotten alot more comfortable with having them since meeting Frank and Nico though.
Bonus!
Reyna- Hispanionlan Amazon. Yes, the green clashes with the purple of her praetor cloak. No, that will not stop her from still wearing it. Her and Hylla’s wings match, although Hylla dyes her feathers black in an attempt to seem more intimidating. Reyna tried once and decided that she preferred the original coloring of her wings.
Nico- Cinereous Vulture. Go look up photos, trust me. Absolute wet cat of a bird. Plus honor and respect in death, and like a vulture, Nico is also a scavenger. His wings are missing feathers from neglecting to groom them + the amount of time he’s spent nomadic. Living at camp full time is helping with the feather regrowth however.

Perennials: Orchid (Elegance)
Word count: 1748 - G - [ AO3 ] - Canon(ish), Post-POF - Overture May Flowers Event Day 28: Orchid for Elegance Note: A seven-year old spoiler for Doctor Who is narrowly avoided below.
"Elegance is elimination." - Cristóbal Balenciaga ---
Thomas was standing in front of the refrigerator, propping the door open with his hip, reaching deep inside, searching. "What about this? I think it's that garlic-infused butter from -" he popped off the lid and sniffed, then gagged. "Nope! Nope, nope, that's not gonna work. Here, Virge," he said, stretching his arm over the top of the refrigerator door to where Virgil sat on the counter. Thomas handed him the rancid butter concoction. "Can you toss this?"
Virgil wrinkled his nose and gingerly accepted the plastic container, toeing open the cabinet that held Thomas' garbage can and threw it in the bin. Roman looked up from where he was chopping tomatoes and grinned. "Nice shot, Emo!" Virgil blushed and slouched a bit, hiding his face.
Thomas didn't notice, too busy hunting for something to substitute for garlic. He'd promised Nico homemade spaghetti when he'd convinced him to come over for dinner tonight instead of going out. But he was completely out of garlic. "Roman, I think we're outta luck. I'm gonna need you to get ... creative." Virgil groaned but smiled.
"Patton's not here so you've decided to cover the dad jokes, huh, Sanders?," he drawled. Roman chuckled, laying the knife on the cutting board and rooting through Thomas' cabinets, looking for anything besides salt to add some flavor to the dish.
"Ah, I think even Patton would have groaned at that one," Roman said, looking over his shoulder at Thomas.
"Hey!," Thomas protested, laughing, "It wasn't that bad!"
Suddenly his phone started playing Nico's ringtone, Sunday Morning. Virgil's eyes grew wide. "He's cancelling. I knew it. Either that or he's early and already on his way and there's no way we'll be ready in time. He's gonna find out you're a disaster and break up with you! God, I hope he's not driving and calling at the same time. What if he got in an accident when he was on the phone with us? Get him off the phone! Remember Dark Water, he wouldn't have -"
"Virgil, it's ok," Thomas placed one hand on the Anxious Side's shoulder. "Let me see what Nico is calling about first, alright?," Despite Virgil's - and, therefore, his own - nervousness about why Nico might be calling just a few hours before their date was set to start, Thomas smiled when he saw Nico's contact picture pop up on his phone screen. He swiped up to answer the call, "Well, hello there, Neek ..."
Roman scraped the diced tomatoes into a bowl and then brought the dirty knife and cutting board to the sink. He would need it again in a moment to chop up the basil, but he was pretty sure that Thomas didn't know that. This gave the Princely Side an opportunity to get a little closer to Virgil and give him a reassuring bump against his knees. "Hey, you ok there, Hot Topic?," he whispered. Virgil's eyes were on Thomas, focused on the conversation. He nodded, giving Roman a quick glance and a smile as thanks.
"Oh ... sure, Neek," Thomas said into the phone, looking down at his feet, "That's no problem, we can totally move this to another day."
"Are you sure? I hope you haven't gone to a lot of trouble ...," Nico sounded distracted on the phone. Yes, he was almost definitely driving. Virgil's warning dancing through his head, Thomas thought he should probably try to get him off the phone as quickly as possible.
"No, no, no, it's totally fine. No trouble at all ... it - it was going to be a simple dinner ... I've hardly even started ... Yes, yes, it's fine. No, ... no of course I'm not mad. I understand you have to get your story in."
Thomas flashed a look to Roman and Virgil, shaking his head. Roman hung his head, leaning against the sink. Virgil gave his shoulder a little squeeze.
Thomas' doorbell rang and he swore under his breath. "No, no, that wasn't because of you, Nico. Sorry. It's probably my new neighbor. I must have breathed too loudly and now he's coming over to complain about the noise. Just a second." Thomas left the kitchen, heading to the front door. Roman suddenly grinned, lifting his head and peering through the kitchen window.
Virgil nudged him, "Hey, Princey, what are you looking for?," he whispered.
"It's the classic rom com move, my Dark Knight," Virgil blushed at the nickname, but Roman was too preoccupied with looking for Nico or his car outside to catch it. "You call your date, say you have to cancel," Roman whispered back quickly, bouncing with excitement. "But then you show up on his doorstep, a big bouquet or a box of chocolates or an engagement ring in hand ...,"
"Oh, Ro, I don't think that's - "
Thomas took a deep breath and opened the door, "Oh, hi. Hailey, is it?," Thomas was a little fuzzy on some of his neighbors' names. "Can help you?" Roman and Virgil met each other's eyes in the kitchen.
"Sorry, Princey," Virgil whispered. Roman just sighed and resumed wrapping up the chopped tomatoes. They were already cooked, so if Thomas used them tomorrow, they'd still be good.
"Yeah, it's Hailey. Hey, Mr. Sanders," she frowned and twisted her fingers together, looking up and down the row of apartments. "Have you, um, seen my cat?"
"No, honey, I'm afraid not, I haven't. What does your cat look like?"
"She's black and white and has a white collar. Her name's Minty."
"I'll keep my eyes out for her. You're two doors down, right?" She nodded. "I'll let you know if I see her, ok?" Thomas glanced down at the phone in his hand, checking that his call with Nico was still active.
"Thanks, Mr. Sanders!" Hailey started to back away from the door, smiling brightly. Thomas shook his head, a rueful smile painting his face. To have the emotional resilience of a kid again. "Oh, yeah," she turned back, "I'll come back and let you know if I find her, too!"
"Ok, thanks, Hailey. I hope you find her soon!" Thomas waved and closed the door. "Hi, Neek, sorry. That was the kid a couple doors down."
Nico laughed gently, "So I heard ... You were so sweet with her." Thomas blushed.
“Hey, you’re no slouch in the charming department, yourself there Mister." Thomas heard Nico chuckle over the line. “Hailey's the same little girl whose mom you helped out last time you came by.”
“Oh, right ... Nice family.” Thomas shook his head in quiet amazement. Nico was so effortlessly friendly and helpful. The last time Nico had come over, just as he’d parked, he noticed Thomas’ neighbor struggling to unload some packages from Sam's Club. Nico had leapt right in, carrying boxes and chatting about the traffic, the neighborhood, his writing. People just gravitated to him. Thomas supposed that was a big part of how they had ended up together, too. Nico was kind and unafraid to help a stranger, easily turning strangers into friends and, well ...
“What’s Hailey’s mom’s name again?,” Thomas asked, feeling a little bad that he couldn’t remember, but confident that Nico would know.
“Kate.” Nico laughed gently, “I’m glad I could help you get to know your neighbors … ,”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, every couple needs a charming one to make friends with the neighbors.” As soon as the words left his mouth, Virgil’s eyes grew wide at the implication hiding in his flirting and he stared at Thomas. The actor turned around, wincing. Virgil just shook his head, mouthing “Shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up,”, then he raised his hoodie, pulling the strings down to completely hide his face. Roman rubbed his back and whispered in his ear.
“It might not be that bad, let’s see what he says …”
“And every couple needs a hopelessly hot one, so I guess we’ve got that all worked out, don’t we, Tommy?,” Nico murmured back. Thomas’ blush was iridescent.
"You know you're the only one who's allowed to call me that, right?," Thomas turned to face the Sides again, grinning, not noticing how Roman quickly stepped away from Virgil, lowering his hand.
Nico laughed, "Darn right, I know I'm the only one!" Thomas pressed the phone against his ear, again soaking in the sweet sound of his boyfriend's laughter. "Listen, I need to go. Can I call you later?"
"Sure, Neek. Talk to you later, bye." Thomas stared at the screen for a moment before pocketing his phone and turning to the Sides watching him. He shrugged, "Nico's got a deadline." He sighed and started to help Roman clean up. "I don't love it, but I get it."
Virgil fiddled with the strings on his hoodie, pressing his lips together. They hadn't been dating for that long, but they knew each other well enough to know that Nico wasn't the type to procrastinate or to forget a due date. He wouldn't have agreed on a date night when he on deadline, either. Virgil didn't want to say anything, he really didn't, but he was sure there was something else going on. He pulled his hood back up and shoved his hands in his pockets. That, Thomas noticed.
"Virge, what's going on, Bud?" Roman looked up at Thomas' words. Virgil just shook his head. As Roman and Thomas both moved closer to the Anxious Side, the doorbell rang again.
"Oh, maybe that's Hailey with her cat. Hopefully somebody's having some luck tonight." Thomas sighed again.
"We'll make ourselves scarce, Thomas, but maybe not leave altogether?" Roman tilted his head toward Virgil. If Virgil went back to the Mindscape in this state, he would likely just send Thomas into a panic attack. It would be better to stay close but out of sight until the feeling passed.
Thomas nodded and approached the door again. "Hey, Hailey, did you find Minty?," he called, opening the door without looking and craning his neck, checking that Virgil and Roman couldn't be seen from where they sat on the stairs. When she didn't respond, Thomas frowned, "No luck?" He finally turned toward the now-open door, and his jaw dropped as he faced Nico standing on his doorstep, a huge, beautiful potted orchid in his hands.
Nico grinned, leaning in to kiss a shocked Thomas. "I wouldn't say that, Tommy. I'd say it's pretty lucky our little ploy to surprise you actually worked." Thomas looked over Nico's shoulder to see Hailey and her mom, grinning and waving. Thomas waved at both of them, feeling a flush growing on his face. "Not bad acting for a ten-year-old, huh?," he laughed, pulling Thomas closer for another hello kiss.

Annabeth wasn't sure who she offended, but it had to be somebody. There was no way her luck was just THIS BAD.
First, she found out that she's required to go to her family's Christmas dinner. You know, the one with the whole extended family as well. Then, her stupid pride got in the way again. Her evil stepmother was interrogating her on her nonexistent love life, and Annabeth, being stupid, said that she was bringing a date to dinner, even though she hadn't been planning on it. Now, Annabeth had one week to find someone willing to go to Hell with her.
Unfortunately, Annabeth wasn't exactly what one might call "popular." She had a group of friends at school, but they were all like her. They were smart and tended to act like know-it-alls. For that reason, she was having trouble finding someone good enough to go with. There was no way Annabeth was going to show up with anyone ordinary. If she was going to go through with this, it had to be spectacular. She had to show it to her judgemental extended family that she didn't care what they thought of her (even if she definitely did).
Her only option so far was the one boy at her table, Octavian and that was NOT an option she was willing to take. Nobody knew why he even sat with them, but they were too afraid to even ask him. He always just sat there staring at people. He was a real creep.
So that was a no.
Annabeth was stuck. She was desperate, and she would probably ask the next person who walked into their shitty school quad.
Just her luck that it was the school's resident bad boy, Percy Jackson.
Ω❖Ω
Annabeth decided to corner him after school, where there would hopefully less students around. Percy tended to hang around the more forgotten parts of the campus, so it shouldn't be too hard.
Not that Annabeth had been watching him, or anything. She just liked to observe the people around her. In her opinion, you can learn a lot about a person when they don't know you're looking.
As soon as the last bell rang, she was up and out of her seat, speed-walking out the classroom door and into the hallways. She didn't run, though. Even if what she was doing was the most stupid idea she'd ever had, it was the best option in the short amount of time before the dinner.
Her only worry was that he would say no. Of course, Annabeth was the best at manipulation, but she'd rather not use that. It made her feel sick inside.
So, her plan was to just ask first and MAYBE use some manipulation if necessary to get him to agree.
Percy ended up being right where she suspected: the roof. She had seen him and his friends heading up that way multiple times, so she thought she should start there. As always, her deduction was correct.
He was up there with his group of friends, so Annabeth figured she would need a way to separate him from them. It was already embarrassing enough to be asking this of him, let alone three others as well.
They hadn't heard her open the door, so Annabeth took a second to compose herself before approaching them. She evened out her expression and stood up tall, exuding an air of confidence. She was about to approach the "most dangerous" kids in school, so she had to be strong.
With a deep, calming breath, Annabeth strode over to the group. They noticed her when she was about half-way there. They were all either sitting on the ledge, or they were leaning up against the small wall. The group had just laughed at something one of them said, but their laughter died out at the sight of Annabeth.
Percy's friends were Nico di Angelo, Thalia Grace, and Grover Underwood. Grover wasn't like the other three in his fashion sense or personality, but he had been friends with them for longer than anyone knew, so nobody really questioned it. Annabeth suspected something, but she didn't want to delve too deep into the inner-workings of the clique.
They all stood up in a sort of defensive stance. None of them knew what to do with someone like Annabeth Chase walking up to them. They were ALL in undocumented territory here.
She walked right up to Percy, standing with her arms crossover in front of her. He raised his eyebrows and looked down at her, amused and confused at the same time. What would ANNABETH CHASE want with him. He didn't remember doing anything to piss her off.
"Yes?" he asked with his signature troublemaker smirk.
"Come with me," Annabeth ordered, turning around and starting to walk away.
When he didn't follow, she looked back at him and spoke again, this time with a more icy tone, "If you want to talk here, that's fine with me, but I'm not so sure you want your friends to hear what I have to say. Unless you want them to know how you're failing–"
"Stop! I'm coming," he interrupted, briskly following her through the roof-access door.
Sure, he trusted his friends, but he was still capable of embarrassment. It wasn't his fault that his Math teacher didn't care that he had dyslexia. So what if he was failing, anyway? He was barely passing in his other classes, and that was mostly because the teachers thought he would fight them or something if they failed him.
Percy didn't know how Annabeth knew he was failing, and he wasn't planning on keeping it that way. He knew her reputation. She had probably manipulated it out of the front office lady or something. She was known to be cold and ruthless. He wasn't afraid of her, but others were. That's part of the reason she was never asked out by any sane guys.
He didn't think she knew that, though. She had always acted indifferent when others whispered crude names about her, so he believed she had no idea what others thought about her. How she managed to miss that, he wasn't sure.
She just kept walking ahead of him, expecting him to follow. She never said a word the entire time. It was really getting on Percy's nerves.
"Hey, Blondie! Where are we going?" he asked, grabbing her arm to stop them as they were passing through one of the hallways.
Annabeth ripped her arm free of his grasp, a murderous look on her face. She didn't answer, but instead looked around their surroundings before her gaze sharpened on a door leading into a janitor's closet. Percy got even more confused when she grabbed his arm and pulled him into the closet with her.
This girl was so confusing.
"What are we doing here?" Percy asked, noting how close they were forced to be in the small space.
Annabeth had noticed, too, but she was determined to not let it bother her. She had already sacrificed all pride even walking up to the group, let alone shoving Percy Jackson into a closet with her. There was no turning back now.
"I have a proposition for you," she said.
Percy raised his eyebrows in amusement, "And what do you think you have that I would want?"
This was Annabeth's secret bargaining chip. She would never go into a confrontation without one.
"I'll tutor you," she stated simply.
She knew that Percy was failing Math. Annabeth was one of the students who offered to tutor others in lower classes. She was in Honors Calculus, and Percy was in Pre-Calculus. It would be easy to tutor him in a class she had taken last year.
Percy was still skeptical, though. Nobody did things like this without some serious reciprocation. Besides, he had long since given up on doing better in school. It was better to just make other think you weren't trying than to let them know you were stupid.
Still, he was interested. "And what do you want in return...?"
"A date." If Percy had been drinking something, he would have done a spit-take.
"I'm sorry, WHAT?!" he exclaimed.
Annabeth sighed. This is going to be harder than I thought.
"I want you to be my date to a family dinner," she over-pronounced every word to make sure he heard it all.
Percy was gaping like a fish out of water. He couldn't believe this! Why would someone like ANNABETH CHASE want HIM of all people to be her date, to a family dinner no less!
"You're joking, right? This was some sort of prank?" he said.
Annabeth wished that were true.
"No, this is not a prank. I really need you to be my date. I'm desperate," she sighed. "Why do you think I'm asking you?"
It was still pretty hard to believe, but Percy was trying to warm up to the idea. He really didn't want to see that same disappointed look on his mother's face the next time he came home with another failing grade.
"Alright, I'll consider it. I need more information first," he said.
Honestly, Percy was even surprising himself. How he was managing to not make a fool out of himself right now was a mystery and a miracle.
"We can't do that here," Annabeth pointed out, glancing around the tight space they were in.
"You're right," Then an idea came to Percy, "What if we go to your house. I'm gonna have to get to know you better, anyway."
Plus, Percy had a feeling that it would get under her skin to have him around her things, and annoying people was apparently what he did best. Even if this little deal did go well, he still had a reputation to uphold. He was the bad boy, the kid who you don't want dating your daughter, or whatever. For that reason, he wanted to make sure he knew what he was getting into first.
"Fine," Annabeth ground out through clenched teeth.
She was already regretting this decision.
Ω❖Ω
"Oh, no. I'm not getting on that thing," Annabeth planted her feet onto the ground.
After Percy had texted his friends saying he was heading home, him and Annabeth had gone out to the parking lot, and since Annabeth had missed her ride, their only options were walking or taking Percy's motorcycle. She would rather walk.
"Come on, blondie! Let's just get out of here!" Percy was getting agitated.
He did not want to be seen letting Annabeth onto his bike. He was known for not letting anyone touch it, let alone ride it.
"Do you know what the fatality rate for motorcyclists is?" she exclaimed.
Percy sighed, "No, and I really don't care. You can wear the helmet. We'll be fine. It's only, like, three miles, right?"
She had told Percy her address when he asked, and he had known the neighborhood. However, she was still refusing to get on that death trap.
Percy let out an almost animalistic growl, "Chase, get on the damn bike before someone sees you doing it and thinks we're going to hook up, or something."
Her eyes widened in fear. From him or the idea of hooking up with him, Percy didn't know, but it got the job done. She grabbed the helmet from his hands and slid onto the bike seat behind him.
He kicked the bike into gear and the engine roared to life, "Hold on!"
Tentatively, Annabeth wrapped her arms around his torso. Once she was secured, he hit the gas and they drove off campus.
Annabeth didn't want to admit it, but Percy was really warm and comforting. It was intoxicating just to be this close to him. His scent reminded her of a warm day at the beach, and she had to hold herself back from hugging him close when he sped up. She did not like Percy Jackson, and that was the end of it. This was just a business deal.
Percy was going through a similar problem. He thought that having Annabeth Chase's arms wrapped around him would make him flinch away, but he found himself leaning back into her embrace. It was so confusing. They had barely talked. The last time he had held something resembling a conversation with her was in Freshman Orientation four years ago.
He was lost in his thoughts, but he was still able to navigate his way to her house. He had lived in New York his whole life, and it was almost muscle memory getting everywhere by now.
"We're here," he told her as he turned the bike off in front of her apartment building.
She had subconsciously tucked her face into his back as the wind whipped against it on the trip. As soon as she realized, she jumped up from the bike and started taking the helmet off.
"Well...let's get inside," she said, rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet.
Percy cleared his throat, "Right."
He climbed off, grabbed his bag, and followed Annabeth into her building and up the stairs. She hadn't spoken again, so he just followed her lead.
Stopping on the third floor platform, she silently walked into the hallway. She led them to apartment 3E before taking out a set of house-keys from her pocket and unlocking the door.
Before they could get farther than the entryway, she rounded back around at him, "Stay quiet. I don't want anyone knowing you're here."
"Got it," he nodded, resisting the urge to make a sarcastic remark. For some reason, he felt that it wasn't the right time to.
They tiptoed their way to the third door down before Annabeth once again shoved him into a room with her. Except this one was larger, cleaner, and brighter. Annabeth's room was nothing like he would expect. It was clean in the sense that there were no clothes sitting around in random places, but it was cluttered like nobody's business. Her desk was overflowing with blueprints and pencils and pens, and her large bookcase was bulging with more books than Percy had even heard of. She had an old fashioned, white dresser on the right covered in lotions and perfumes and other girl products. And then her bed: a white frame with a fluffy grey comforter and two marshmallow-like pillows. Even looking at it made him want to pass out. Upon further inspection, Percy saw that there were already three books sitting on the mattress, and two more on the nightstand. He knew she was smart, but not that she was a bookworm, though he supposed that came with being smart. You enjoyed doing things that others struggled with.
That just made him bitter towards her again. People like her used to patronize him all the time for his dyslexia and ADHD, and it pushed him to become who he was today. What right did they have to act all high-and-mighty just because they were a part of the few who did well in school?
Annabeth's voice broke through his thoughts, "Sorry for the mess. I didn't expect company today."
"It's whatever," he grumbled, crawling back into his rock-hard, badboy shell.
"Oh. Alright," Annabeth muttered, confused by his sudden change in demeanor, "Why don't we sit down and get started?"
She plopped herself down on her fluffy rug and learned back against her bed, staring up at him in wait. With another grumble, Percy sat down next to her, pulling out an old pen from his pocket. Annabeth didn't want to question it, but it was so tempting, and she's never been the best at curving her curiosity.
"Why do you have that?" she pointed at the ballpoint pen.
"It was a gift from my dad. I guess I just keep it around now," he shrugged, trying to downplay the actual enormity of the meaning it held.
It was the last thing his father had given him before he died, and he cherished it. Only his close friends knew why he kept it with him, and that was because most of them were his cousins.
"Oh. That's cool, I guess," Annabeth tried to get back on topic, "What do you want to know?"
"Um...I guess who's going to be there, stuff about them, and stuff about you. I feel like I should know more about you if I'm meeting your family. That usually means you're important," Percy answered, surprising himself and Annabeth with the unusually strategic answer.
"Well, it's going to be this immediate family, two of my dad's sibling's families, and my dad's parents," Annabeth said, and Percy noted how she never said her family.
"I have my dad, step-mom, and two half-brothers, respectively Fredrick Chase, Helen Chase, and Bobby and Matthew Chase. Dad is a US history-buff, so just ask him about his model-planes and he'll talk your ear off for the rest of the night. Helen is kinda a prude, but if you compliment the food or decor, she'll probably love you. Bobby and Matt are pretty simple. They're thirteen-year-old twin boys, and they're not that hard to impress. Just talk about your motorcycle or video games or something, and they'll never stop asking questions," she took a big breath of air, "That's the immediate family."
"Now for my aunt and uncle's families. My Aunt Darcy is divorced with one son in college, Malcolm. He's great, but he might be a little overprotective, so just be prepared for that. And my Uncle Casey has a wife and two daughters. His wife is named Carol, and she's a lot like Helen, but much worse, so avoid her at all costs. Their kids are alright, if not a little spoiled. Their names are Alexandra and Cassandra, and their 14 and 16 respectively. Alexandra goes by Lexi, and Cassandra goes by Cass," Annabeth said.
She could tell that everything she was saying was overwhelming Percy, but they were almost done, so she kept explaining the inner workings of her messed-up family.
"My grandparents hate me, so that will automatically transfer to you. Their names are Mary and John Chase, though they'll probably tell you what they want to be called," she informed, "And that's it! The dinner is in 7 days, so the third day of winter break."
It was the Wednesday before break as they were talking, so they had a while to prepare. Some might think Annabeth was overinforming Percy, but she wasn't exaggerating on anything. She was the mistake her father made in college, and nobody wanted her, not even her own mother. Annabeth hadn't even seen her mother in two years. The most she got were impersonal birthday cards and two hundred dollars into her college savings account. She was not winning in the motherly-love department, that's for sure.
"What about you? Or us? We need a reason for why you're bringing ME to a family dinner," Percy said.
"I've planned for that. You're a friend from school named Percy. We'll figure more stuff out at the dinner as we come up with stuff. And what do you want to know about me?" she said.
"Basic stuff, I guess. Like your favorite color, animal, what you want to be, middle name, favorite song..." he started listing off.
"Grey, owl, architect, I don't have a middle name, and I guess Immortals or The Run and Go," Annabeth answered.
That shocked Percy. Annabeth didn't seem like the kind of girl to listen to Fall Out Boy.
"You listen to Fall Out Boy?" Percy questioned.
"Sure, they're great," Annabeth shrugged, getting up and grabbing her backpack before sitting back down again, "But I feel like we should get a grasp on your studying situation now."
Percy really didn't feel like studying, but he knew he had to, "Fine."
"Great! Let's get started. Now what unit are you guys on right now?" she exclaimed, feigning excitement.
Honestly Annabeth didn't know what to expect going in besides a struggle. She had a pretty good idea of Percy's grades at the moment, and it would be a journey getting them to rise. However, she never backs down from a challenge, so she grabbed an old textbook, some scratch paper, and a couple pencils before sitting next to the mysterious bad boy of Goode High.
Little did she know, Annabeth was in for a lot more than she bargained for...
Ω❖Ω
"Annabeth!" Percy called out, running up to her in the hallways.
Annabeth's friends all turned to look at her in various degrees of shock. She just gave them a sheepish look in return. So what if she had conveniently forgot to tell them about her deal with Percy? It's not like it was that important, anyway.
It was the last day before break, Friday, and Percy was stressing about the test he had next period. It was in Math, and he knew that him and Annabeth had worked really hard getting him prepared the days before, but he was still convinced he was going to fail.
"I'm so screwed," he said as he reached her, not even paying a mind to her friends watching this interaction in confusion, "I'm so gonna fail!"
"Percy, you are going to do fine. You are prepared for this," Annabeth assured.
"No, I'm not! Everything you taught me is gone! It ran away in fear!" he protested.
Annabeth tried not to laugh, but a small smile graced her lips, "Just take a breath and relax. You're going to do great."
Personally, Percy thought that was a load of crap, but at that precise moment, he realized that almost everyone around them was staring at the baddest boy in school talking to the nerdiest girl, so he shut up. He turned and gave everyone his best wolf glare before walking away.
Annabeth watched him go with a fond sigh.
Then, she mentally slapped herself. Get a hold of yourself! You do NOT like Percy Jackson, she thought. There was no way.
It was hard not to, though. Annabeth didn't like lying to herself, so she admitted that she thought Percy was pretty hot. But they would never work. For starters, there was their respective social statuses. And then there's also the tiny part about how they even started becoming "friends" or whatever else you call their relationship.
So, she took a deep breath before walking to her first class, ignoring her friend's threats about interrogations later.
At lunch, before Annabeth could even make it to the cafeteria, a hand latched onto her arm and pulled her up to the roof. Of course, she realized it was Percy pretty fast, but she was still confused on what was going on.
When they got up there, he pulled up to the same spot from Wednesday and took a piece of paper out of his bag. He held it up proudly in front of her face without a word, displaying the large red B- on the paper.
Her face broke out into a grin and before she could realize what she was doing, Annabeth jumped up into his arms.
"Oh my god! You did it! Congrats!" she exclaimed.
He chuckled, and put her down before saying, "Thanks! The teacher graded it for me right after. I don't think I've gotten this good of a grade ever!"
"Well, now you have," Annabeth couldn't help it, she gave him one more, sweeter, hug.
"I couldn't have done it without you," Percy said, placing a calloused hand on her cheek.
Annabeth blushed and shook her head, "No, you did this all by yourself. I just helped push you along a little."
And, GOD, she smiled that cute smile and Percy really wanted to kiss her. Then he realized what he had just thought and quickly pulled his hand down. No, Percy was impulsive, but he wasn't that stupid.
Inside, Annabeth was a little disappointed, but she didn't show it on the outside. She just smiled at him once more before taking a step away.
Percy cleared his throat, "Well, I've gotta get going...somewhere. I'll see you Wednesday."
"Oh! Right. Yeah. See you Wednesday," Annabeth responded before remembering, "Oh! I almost forgot, dress nicely."
Percy grimaced, but he figured he owed her for helping him get this grade, so he nodded while opening the roof access door.
Both of them had a lot to think about. There was no way they were developing feelings for each other. It was impossible. Percy was Percy, and Annabeth was Annabeth. There was no Percy and Annabeth or Annabeth and Percy. They were two separate people in two completely different parts of the high school caste system.
Ω❖Ω
Annabeth was freaking out. It was a stupid idea to begin with, but she still did it. She let her emotions control her, and it led her to that morning; the morning of the dinner.
She was pacing back and forth, running a path along her carpet in her bedroom. She had two outfits laid out on her bed, but she wasn't too worried about those yet. What she was worried about was Percy. Annabeth had started to somewhat trust him, but as soon as she had woken up that morning, every possible way he could let her down popped into her head.
Sure, she kinda wanted him to surprise her father by his appearance, but that was only as a small act of rebellion. Her father had mentioned that he hadn't seen any boys around ever, and that he was concerned about her social life. Therefore, she decided to give him the opposite of what boy you bring home to your parents. She was giving him Percy Jackson.
Oh, she was such an idiot!! There was no way Percy was going to follow through with his side of the deal, he had already gotten what he wanted. She helped him pass his math test, and now she wasn't needed anymore. He could cut her loose, just like her mother.
Annabeth felt her chest constrict in anticipation of an anxiety attack. She knew what was going on, and how to handle it. These weren't uncommon with her. So, she sat herself down on her bed and started counting her breathing. Inhale two three four, hold two three four, exhale two three four, repeat. Soon enough, she was calming down, and then her mind realized how irrational she had been acting. There was no reason to doubt Percy until he gave her one. She had to put her trust in him, something she had done to hardly anyone.
But she had already committed, and Annabeth Chase does not back down from challenges. She could do this.
Ω❖Ω
Percy was also freaking out.
Okay, so not as badly as Annabeth, but it was bad in its own right. He had admitted days ago that he felt something more than friendship towards Annabeth, but he still refused to believe it was a crush. Percy Jackson didn't get crushes. Or at least, that's what everyone in school believed, and in high school, your reputation is hard to get rid of (mostly because nobody wants to). So what if he let everyone believe he was a womanizer? It's not like it was true, and he and his friends knew that. He respected women more than probably every boy in Goode. Being raised by Sally Jackson tends to do that to you.
So there he was, freaking out over not having anything to wear. Don't get him wrong, Percy had plenty of clothes, but not one of them was appropriate for a "formal dinner." And if he had any chance of furthering his relationship with Annabeth, he had to be perfect. This night had to be perfect, for her.
Oh god, he sounded like a lovesick puppy!
He took one last look at his closet before falling back onto his bed in defeat. That was when an idea struck him. Thalia, his cousin, had a brother (who could also be classified as a cousin), and he was dating Piper, a total fashionista. They had only really interacted a couple of times, but he knew that she was a nice person. If anyone could pull him out of the ditch he had dug himself, it would be her. The only problem with his plan was how he was going to convince her. He hadn't even told his mom about the deal with Annabeth, let alone his little cousin's girlfriend!
In his typical Percy way, he decided to just wing it.
He grabbed his phone off his bedside table and pulled up Jason's contact, which was labeled "Sparky." Percy quickly sent a text asking for Piper's number, and it took a while to convince Jason that he wasn't trying to make a move on her, but he eventually got it.
With speed his dyslexic brain didn't know it was capable of, he texted Piper, letting her know who he was and telling her it was urgent for her to get to his apartment. She responded with a question mark, and he let out a groan of frustration.
Didn't she understand that this was a life or death situation?!
Finally, he just decided to call Piper. His tone of voice would hopefully sway her.
"What do you want, Jackson?" she answered on the first ring.
"I need your help," he answered.
"Too bad. I don't feel like committing any felonies today, sorry," she said.
"No, nothing like that! I need you to come to my apartment," he responded.
She scoffed, "I'm definitely not doing that. What's this about?"
With a sigh, Percy relented in a whisper, "I need your fashion advice."
"Sorry, what was that? You need to speak up," she said.
"I said, I need your fashion advice. Actually, I need your help dressing for a formal dinner," he answered.
She actually burst out laughing.
"This isn't funny, Piper," he grumbled.
"No no, you're right. This is hilarious! Percy Jackson, asking for fashion advice for a formal dinner!" she broke out into another bout of laughter.
"McLean! Are you gonna help me or not?" Percy snapped.
The girl in question took a deep, calming breath before answering, "Sure. I'll be there in 20."
Without waiting for his response, she hung up.
Percy had the strange feeling that he had just made a huge mistake as he settled onto his living room couch, waiting to open the door for Piper.
Ω❖Ω
"Annabeth! Come down here! I need your help!" Helen called from downstairs.
Annabeth had managed to distract herself for another couple of hours with homework and reading, but now her step mother wanted her to help with preparations, which would only remind her that the dinner was coming up. She didn't want to be reminded, but she also wasn't in the mood for a fight with Helen. So, she pulled herself up from her desk chair and went downstairs.
What she found was not the downstairs of her home. It was completely different. Decorations were set up everywhere, and the living room had been stripped clean of any of Bobby and Matthew's toys. The dining room was where she found Helen, who was hurriedly setting the table.
Annabeth was a little confused. Last she checked, they still had an hour before anyone would be showing up, so why was Helen acting like they had five minutes?
"Helen?" she asked, "You do know we have another hour, right?"
Her step mother's head snapped up, "Yes, I do know that. That's why I'm rushing. I still have to finish making the food, and put more presents under the tree, and finish setting the table, and get your brothers to clean up upstairs. We're running out of time!"
Annabeth really didn't want to comfort Helen, but she seemed like she really needed it.
"I'll help you. We'll get it all done, okay? It's gonna be okay," she said, "Why don't you go finish dinner while I finish setting the table? Then we can get ready while the boys clean up upstairs. We'll figure out the rest after."
"O-okay. Just make sure it all matches! Lord knows I have enough issues with your grandparents already," Helen agreed with a deep breath.
"Bye," Annabeth nudged when Helen didn't move.
"Right! Bye," she walked into the kitchen.
With a sigh, Annabeth continued her stepmother's work. She knew that this dinner had to be perfect for more than just her now.
Ω❖Ω
"Thank god you're here!" Percy pulled Piper through the front door and to his bedroom, ignoring her sounds of shock and protest.
"What are you doing?!" she exclaimed.
"I told you. I need your help," Percy answered.
He pointed towards his closet, which was disappointing him more with every passing minute. Why couldn't he just be a good closet and produce some nice clothes to wear? Was that so much to ask?
"Okay, I know that, but can I have some background info? Like who you're doing this for?" Piper said.
"No," he answered on instinct.
No way was he telling her that it was for a sorta-date with Annabeth Chase. He knew her reputation of being a total matchmaker, and he was not in the mood for her canoodling. It was just part of a deal. He had to keep that mindset if he had any chance of getting through the night.
Okay, so he wasn't being completely honest with himself! So what?
"Percy, I need to know what kind of event I'm dressing you for," Piper said in a gentle, but urgent tone, "I promise I won't tell anyone if you don't want me to."
She seemed to be serious, so Percy relented, "I'm going to a formal dinner with Annabeth Chase's family."
Whatever she had been thinking, his answer clearly wasn't it. Her face split into one of shock and then giddiness.
"I knew it! Jason said I was crazy, but I knew it! You like her! Oh, you guys are such a cute couple!" she exclaimed, practically jumping up and down in excitement.
Percy rushed to correct her, "No no no! We're not dating! We made a deal. I would go to this dinner with her if she became my tutor."
Piper's face fell.
"Oh. Well, I guess I can still help you," she muttered, "But I still think you guys would make the cutest couple!"
Percy let out a sigh of relief. He had started to get really worried there.
Some might think it was odd for him to put this much effort into a date, but this was just the real him; the one he hid from the world. He refused to let anyone take away his power now; to hurt him. No more Gabes.
But that was all in the past.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" he yelled.
"No problem," Piper responded before walking up to his closet and starting to file through his clothes.
Every so often, she would make a click of disapprovement, or she would sigh in exasperation, but she never looked up at him. For the longest time, Percy had to hold in his comments. He figured that it was best to be silent while she worked.
This was her specialty, after all.
Piper pulled out a couple of random clothes and tossed them onto his bed.
"This is the best I could do. You seriously need some new clothes, by the way," she said.
By the way she was gazing at his clothes, it almost seemed like Piper was physically hurting for his lack of style. He wasn't sure whether to laugh or be offended.
She had pulled out a black button-up that he never remembered buying, and a pair of new, dark jeans. He would've never worn any of the items, so he concluded that his mother must have bought them for him when she still thought his choice of clothing was just a phase he was going through.
"Put them on!" Piper ordered when she saw him just staring at the outfit.
"Alright, alright. Can you turn around please?" he said, going to lift his shirt off.
She scoffed but complied.
Once he had finished, he told her she could look, and then they just stood in silence for a second. It worried Percy that Piper hadn't said a single word, and was just staring at him.
"Well...?" he prodded.
"Damn! You clean up good, Jackson," she exclaimed, finally.
He let out a laugh, but a slight blush was dusting his cheeks. So what if he wasn't actually a punky badboy? That was for him to know, and for nobody at school to find out.
The only reason he let Piper see this side of him is because it was obvious that Jason was going to marry her eventually. It was kinda sickening how cute they could be sometimes.
"Alright, how long until you need to be there?" Piper asked.
He checked his phone and let out a noise of panic once he saw the time: 4:30 PM. He had to be there at five, which meant he had to leave, like, now.
"Crap, I'm late!" he yelled, rushing around his room gathering his phone, wallet, shoes, and keys.
All he recognized was Piper's muffled laughter as he hurriedly left and told her to lock up on her way out. He didn't even care that he was walking in socks on the New York City sidewalks, just that he got into the car as soon as possible.
The car he was driving was an old, beat-up, blue Prius that his step-dad, Paul, owned. Percy had asked to borrow it for the night so that he would look more meet the parents-like.
It seemed he was starting to come to the conclusion that he really wanted something real with Annabeth. Maybe even accepting it, screw his reputation!
Ω❖Ω
He was late. That's all Annabeth's mind could focus on as she tugged on her nude, strappy heels for the night. She had decided to go with a lacy, burgundy, off-the-shoulder dress that ends at just above the knees. She was, of course, wearing her lotus flower necklace (a gift from her mother years ago), and her ears had some simple diamond studs. She had given herself a slight grey smokey-eye and a nude lip. Annabeth wanted to go with her natural curls, so all she did was make them slightly more organized.
To some families, this might seem like a bit much, but to the Chase's it was normal. They prided themselves on regalty and opulence. Annabeth had never liked that, but it was easier to comply with her father's wishes rather than fight them.
But back to Percy's tardiness.
He wasn't actually late, but he wasn't there when she told him to be. She told him to be there at five, rather than 5:30, because she wanted to get the immediate family introductions over with first. Plus, Annabeth liked to plan for things. Planning meant no possibilities of mistakes, and Percy was messing-up her plans.
Just as she was ready to call him and chew him out for being late, there was a ring from the doorbell, and Annabeth was dashing downstairs. She had hoped to beat Bobby and Matthew, but apparently, luck wasn't on her side that night because when she got there, she saw the twins standing in the doorway looking up at Percy in confusion.
Her half-brothers hadn't yet learned how to not be blunt, and it was showing in that moment.
"Who are you?"
"You're not supposed to be here."
"I'm Percy, Annabeth's date," Percy replied in his perfectly smooth voice.
"Bobby! Matthew! Go away!" she ordered before they could ask more questions.
Percy's head shot up at her voice, and his mouth literally fell open. His eyes tracked up and down her body slowly, growing wider by every inch while Annabeth just stood that with a light blush coating her cheeks.
"You're drooling," she joked.
"You look beautiful," he said.
She gave him a big smile and grabbed his hand, "Come on, let's meet the 'rents."
"Yay..." he cheered half-heartedly.
She pulled him over to the kitchen, where her father and step-mother were finishing up dinner preparations. She cleared her throat to get their attention and they both looked up, shocked at what they found.
Clearly, they hadn't believed Annabeth when she told them she was bringing a date.
"Dad, Helen, this is Percy Jackson. Percy, this is my dad and step-mom," she introduced, awkwardly waving her hand between the two groups.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Chase," Percy shook both their hands.
Annabeth, internally, was shocked, but she just beamed proudly on the outside. Who knew Percy Jackson had manners?
"Nice to meet you too, Percy," Helen said.
Mr. Chase just nodded, skeptic eyes analyzing every bit of Percy. His eyes locked onto something peeking up from under his shirt collar.
"What's that?" he asked, pointing to the blemish on the boy's skin.
That was the last thing Percy wanted to answer. He had tried to hide his tattoos, but the one on the back of his neck was hard to hide. It was trident.
"Oh," he glanced at Annabeth before answering, "It's a tattoo."
He might as well just get straight to the point, right?
Fredrick Chase raised his eyebrows at his daughter, who chose to not be phased. She had known Percy had tattoos going into this, and it just added to the appeal of rebellion against her parents.
"Any special meaning?" he asked.
"Um...it's a trident. It's for my father, who died in the Navy," Percy answered, shocking even Annabeth.
She hadn't known his father had died, or that he had been in the Navy. She had just figured he was one of those teens who got tattoos with no meaning. Guess even she could be wrong sometimes, and a lot of that was happening around Percy.
She guessed it just proved the "don't judge a book by its cover" thing.
"Interesting," Mr. Chase mused, but didn't comment any further.
He instead chose to continue cooking, so Annabeth grabbed Percy again and pulled him into the living room, where her brothers were playing.
"Boys, this is Percy," she said, getting their attention.
Their heads snapped up in almost-perfect sync.
"We know," Matthew answered, "We met him at the door."
"Right," she said, unsure of what else to say after that.
"Are you guys dating?" Bobby asked.
"No, we're not," Annabeth answered.
"Cuz Percy said that he was your date," Bobby continued.
"Well that's not the same as dating," Annabeth clarified.
"You guys seem like you're dating," Matthew said.
Annabeth and Percy looked at each other, noticing that they had gravitated to sit right next to each other on the couch, with Percy's arm resting behind her. It felt so natural, that they hadn't noticed their bodies doing it.
Neither of them knew what else to say to that statement, but they didn't have to because there was another ring of the doorbell soon after. Annabeth hopped up to go answer it, and she found that it was actually the entire rest of the family, punctual as always. The funny thing was, she didn't even bat an eyelash at it; just welcomed them in and took her grandparents' coats.
As they were walking further into the house, Malcolm walked up to her and whispered, "And so it begins."
She let out a snort, but tried to hide it with a cough.
Unfortunately, he wasn't so far off. Family gatherings were one of two things in her household: loud and full of anger, or silent and awkward. There was no in- between.
As they got into the living room, she noticed that everyone was staring at Percy, who hadn't even noticed it yet. He had gotten down onto the floor and was playing cars with Bobby and Matt. That sight brought a smile to her face for a moment, before she realized that she had to explain why there was a "stranger" in the house, playing with her little brothers.
She walked up to Percy and pulled him up, "Guys, this is Percy. Percy, this is my Aunt Darcy, Malcolm, Uncle Casey, Aunt Carol, and Lexi and Cass."
He waved awkwardly, making Annabeth do an internal face-palm. He had done so well up until that point!
Nobody really introduced themselves, and that was fine by Annabeth. The less confrontation, the better.
The group dissipated and spread throughout the house, with only Malcom staying in the living room. He had a major scowl going on, and he was staring down Percy, who seemed pretty intimidated by it for some reason.
Honestly, he was intimidated by Malcom. He wanted to impress Annabeth's family because he kinda wanted to date the girl! It was crucial that at least some of them enjoy his presence, or at least tolerate it.
"Hey, I'm Percy," he held out a hand for Malcom to shake.
He ignored it and just continued to analyze every inch of the teenager who was "dating" his little cousin.
"I'm Malcom, Annabeth's cousin. What are your intentions with her?" he got straight to the point.
"Um," Percy swallowed, "I would like to continue hanging out with her. She's really nice."
He wanted to punch himself. 'She's really nice'?! Stupid, Percy! Stupid, Percy!
Malcom still still didn't seem happy with Percy being there, but he decided to not continue any interrogations, so that was a plus.
Annabeth let out a sigh of relief, and pulled Percy down onto the couch with her. Not even caring about the implications of it, she rested her head against his shoulder and intertwined her fingers with his. It was all very coupley, but she didn't care. That was what she wanted this to lead to, right? And it seemed like Percy was the kind of guy who needed clear signals, and this was about as clear as she could get without straight-up kissing him.
Percy didn't end up commenting on it, but he did let a small, discrete smile slip onto his face. He had gotten the signals, and now he had a plan.
Ω❖Ω
Dinner ended up going relatively smoothly, for a Chase dinner at least. The adults held a sorta-steady conversation, while the kids occasionally talked. The most-common topic amongst the teens was Percy. Cassandra and Alexandra were extremely happy to learn more about the boy, as they so-obviously were attracted to him. Annabeth wasn't sure whether to be jealous or amused that Percy played along with them.
When the night was drawing to a close, and the extended family members had finished saying their goodbyes, Annabeth led Percy to his car. She wanted some privacy for this conversation.
But it was a little distracting that Percy Jackson, badboy, owned a blue Prius. Sure, it was his step-dad's but still!
"This is too great! Leo's gonna love this!" she exclaimed, laughing.
"Haha, so funny. Are you done?" Percy deadpanned.
"Sure, sure," she gasped, and then moved to a more serious tone, "But I do want to talk to you about something else."
"What is it?" Percy asked, leaning back against the car door.
He didn't want to worry, but his mind jumped to conclusions he didn't even know it could. What if she didn't want to talk to him ever again? What if she needed him to commit a murder? What if she was pregnant?! Okay, that last one's a little far-fetched, but his mind is a little odd, okay? Leave it be.
"I was wondering..." she started.
"Yes?" he nudged her with his foot..
"Would you maybe want to go on a real date?" she sped out.
Percy grinned, "Are you sure you wanna go out with rebellious teen Percy Jackson? Won't I be a bad influence?"
Annabeth smirked, "That's what I'm counting on."
And oh god, that was not the right thing to say to him unless she wanted to be kissed. Absolutely not.
Percy said in a very serious voice, "I'm going to kiss you now."
Annabeth smiled, "Okay."
Then his lips were on her, and the metaphorical fireworks were going off, and confetti was being thrown, and everything around them was blocked out, and it was perfect. Their lips fit perfectly with each other, one slightly-chapped and the other plump and moist.
Percy could kiss Annabeth all day, and it felt like they did when they pulled away, breathing heavily and trying to catch their breaths. They had basically just started making out eventually, but people (unfortunately) have to breathe at some point.
"Wow," is all Percy could come up with.
Annabeth giggled, and it was the best thing Percy had ever heard, "Very intelligent, Seaweed Brain."
"Seaweed Brain, huh?"
"It just slipped out, but I think it kinda fits," she answered.
"Fine, then I get to call you...Wise Girl," he declared, settling his hands lightly on her hips.
"You know that's a compliment, right?" Annabeth said.
"Whatever, it fits," he said.
And that was such a Percy statement that Annabeth had to give him one more peck on the lips. Then, she pulled away and started to walk backwards towards her house.
"I'll text you!" Percy called.
"I'll be waiting for it!" she called back.
And, okay, so maybe the dinner wasn't how they planned, but it was better.

God!Percy fic ch. 5
Previous chapter: https://valdez-and-the-argo-crew.tumblr.com/post/616320304875175936/god-percy-fic-ch-45
Two sons of the sea
Alone on a quest
That line made sense. It was actually the most understandable thing I’d ever heard an Oracle say. I looked over at Jamie, who was currently fast asleep. He was handling the quest pretty well.
To return escaped spirits
To the cold hands of death
The part about escaped spirits made sense as well. The Arai were the escaped spirits, and I assume the underworld is what the second line was talking about.
For better or worse
One choice changes all
I’ll take vague descriptions for 500. I make about a million choices a minute, and one of them is supposed to change everything?? That’s comforting.
He will bring peace to Olympus
Or be the cause of its fall.
And to top it off, I might kill the gods...again.
It’s been two days of straight traveling, but Jamie and I finally have reached a point where we believe we can intercept the Arai.
Which means we can finally get off this train we’ve been on.
I turn to Jamie, and shake him gently on the shoulder.
“Hey bud. Rise and shine, let’s go kill some things.”
He sat up and stretched, rubbing his eyes. I didn’t need any godly powers to be able to tell he was not at all awake. I almost felt bad about Jamie being here on the quest. He’s 6, he deserves to be building sandcastles and riding Pegasi, not saving the world.
“Are we there yet...?” He asked, narrowly avoiding another yawn.
“Yeah. Now come on. We need to get off the train.” I tugged his arm gently, but that was somehow counterproductive. He passed out once again, leaving me with no other choice.
I stepped off the train with my brother on my back, holding both of our bags. I have to admit, it was nice. It made me miss mortality. Ever since I became a god, I’ve been...detached. Emotions and connections were hazy and inconsistent, and at times, I found myself wondering why I’d spent years building up relationships.
But just carrying Jamie grounded me. So I let myself smile as I walked out of the train station and immediately into somebody I hadn’t seen standing in my way
“Shit my bad I didn’t see— Nico?” I paused to look at the boy in front of me.
“Percy?” He tilted his head to one side— a habit he had when he was confused. “What in Hades are you doing out here?”
“Uhh...believe it or not I’m on a quest.” I laughed a bit.
“You? But you’re...y’know...a god? What’re you on a quest for?”
“It’s beyond me. But apparently I might destroy Olympus again so...I got that going for me.” I laughed again and adjusted my weight. A sleeping 6 year old gets heavy quickly, even for a god.
“who’s the kid? He’s not...like...” Nico trailed off, looking between Jamie and me.
“Like what...?” I said before it struck me. “Oh gods no. No no no, he’s my brother. Another Poseidon kid. His name is Jamie.”
Nico smiles a bit. “Alright then. So...where are you headed? Because I have a feeling we’re both here for the same reason.”
“The Arai?” Nico nodded. “Well...I was thinking first we just find some place to crash and get organized, but seeing as Jamie here has been out like a light for hours, I’d say he’s well rested. So...” I shrugged. “I guess we go after them?”
“Yeah...I guess,” Nico looked at Jamie again. “He seems too young to be on such an intense quest, is he doing okay?”
I saw the look in Nico’s eyes and I knew what he was afraid of. Ever since Bianca, he’d been wary of quests, especially when younger children were involved.
“It’s been surprisingly mundane. Not one monster attack.” I said, to which Nico raised an eyebrow.
“Not one? Weird.” A pause settled over the two of us as I shifted my weight to keep Jamie supported on my back.
“Well...you two come with me, I can lead you to where the Arai are.”
I followed him out of the train station and through the quiet suburbs of the town we were in. We kept walking and walking until we came across a deserted park area, and I could feel the Arai nearby.
Now, I’d like to say I’m not as stupid as some people make me out to be, but looking back on these next a few moments...definitely makes the list of top 10 stupidest things I’ve done.
“Percy...”
I glanced around. “What?”
Nico looked up at me. “Hm?”
“Did you say something?” I asked, still looking around.
“No?” Nico said, with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh...I could’ve sword I heard...” I trailed off, shaking my head. “Never mind.”
“Listen to me Percy...”
And my big mistake...is that I did.
Using my Awesome And Useful Godly Powers, I split my conscious. I know, impressive, right?
Part of me stayed walking with Nico, carrying Jamie who was still out cold, but the other part of me slipped away, still looking around for the voice.
“Are you listening...?”
“Who are you?” I said aloud, now able to look all around. “What do you want from me?”
“We don’t want anything Percy. We want to protect you.”
“First of all, I’m a god so...good luck. And secondly, I don’t talk to disembodied voices. Sorry, gotta go.” I took a few steps forward, only to be cut off buy something appearing in my path.
My body reacted on instinct, jumping back and pulling Riptide into action. What had appeared in front of me looked exactly like a fury, and I can’t say I’m particularly fond of furies.
But upon closer inspection, it wasn’t a fury at all. Wrinkled features, bat-like wings and brass talons, not to mention the glowing red eyes...this wasn’t something I’ve ever encountered. Not in this plane of existence, at least. But something lit up in the back of my mind. A hazy memory...
“Who are you.” I pointed Riptide right at her, hoping to pry some useful information from her.
“You know who we are,” she said, as more creatures looking just like her appeared around her. “And we’re here to tell you that you don’t have to kill us again.”
“Again? I’ve never...” wait. I thought about it. I could remember...something. Like a memory that never happened, but would’ve in a different timeline. I could recall...Tartarus. Annabeth and I...she was...blind, and I was in pain...
It struck me. “You’re the Arai. And if things had played out differently, I would’ve killed you years ago.”
The Arai laughed, which sounded rather like an asthmatic dog wheezing. “He does remember.”
“You still haven’t told me what you’re trying to talk to me about. I could just kill you now, and the quest would be over.” I eyed each of the hags in front of me. “You have 10 seconds to talk before I dice you.”
“If you kill us, you’ll suffer every death you’ve ever bestowed. But it doesn’t have to be like that.” One of them stepped forward. “You chose immortality, but what you don’t know...is how much more powerful you could be. More than Hades, more than your father...” she took another step closer. “More powerful than Zeus.”
I lowered Riptide. “Why are you telling me this?”
“Zeus has been in charge for too long. What has he ever done for you? He gave you godhood and confined you to your silly camp. He forbid your dear old daddy from being there while you grew up. He let neglected half-bloods raise Kronos, and forced you to save him.” She was circling around me now. “You can prove you’re a worthy god, not one to be stuck on camp duty. Don’t you want that, Percy?”
“Oh shut up.” I swung riptide right through her chest, causing her to dissolve into a flurry of gold dust.
A fountain of pain erupted from my gut. Riptide clattered to the ground as I toppled over, putting my hand to the pain. Golden Ichor flowed though my fingers from the wound that had appeared. One word came to my mind. ‘Minotaur’. My wound was right where I’d stabbed the Minotaur all those years ago, right outside of camp.
My vision swam as I reached out for my sword. I closed my hand around it and swung at the nearest Arai I could reach. It wasn’t enough though. She simply screeched in pain.
“You can be strong Percy. Chiron has nothing more for you. That silly camp of yours is not built for someone with as much potential as you.”
“You talk too much,” I said, struggling as I got to my feet. “I’m not going to turn my back on anyone. Camp is my home.”
I suddenly felt the presence of water. I looked to my left to find a sprinkler in the ground next to me, which gave me an idea.
I willed the sprinkler to explode, allowing me access to the waterlines. Raising my hand slowly, the water began to form a small ball between me and the remaining Arai.
“Percy!” Came a voice in the distance. Nico was running towards me, Jamie following close behind.
I kept my focus on the water as it grew bigger and bigger. I used it to engulf the three hags in front of me. They gasped for air as they slowly started to drown in the water.
“Percy! Oh gods what happened to you. Jamie stay back.” Nico said, running towards me, but I showed him off.
“I got this, Nico it’s fine.” I kept my eyes strained on the spirits in front of me. Another one exploded into dust in the water. I lost my balance as my skin turned searing hot. I couldn’t focus anymore as burns crept up the sides of my arms. Mount St. Helens... the explosion.
I lost control of the water, letting the two remaining Arai fall to the ground. Another one died on impact with the ground.
I couldn’t breathe.
Somewhere to my right Nico was running toward me but I couldn’t focus on that. I started coughing, gasping for air, but I couldn’t get it. What is it what did I kill?
Sounds became muted as I started coughing more violently. I think Nico was calling me. I think Jamie was too.
What the hell did I kill? My vision doubled as I couldn’t get oxygen. I’m a god this...this shouldn’t be killing me... why...
I felt Nico shaking me. His voice sounded so far away.
“Percy! Percy are you okay? Percy what’s going on!” He shook me violently.
Oh gods... I’m drowning...
I coughed more and this time I was coughing up sea water. How? I’m the son of Poseidon, I can’t...I can’t drown...I’m not supposed to drown...
The boar. Ares...the lightning bolt situation... I’m drowning like I drowned Ares’ boar.
“Jamie!” I heard Nico say. “I know I’m asking a lot but take my sword. You have to kill that last Arai.”
And that’s when I lost consciousness.

Silvia: Are these asparagus?
Ele: Take these glasses please, so we can bring them there
S: Did you only cook that?
E: What’s wrong Silvia, why are you making that face? You’ve always eaten my risotto with asparagus
S: No, I like it, but you know it well Ele, please!
E: What?
S: That it makes you stink a lot there, c’mon...
E: Oh God Silvia! She doesn’t want to eat my risotto!
Fede: Why is that?
S: Because it makes you stink a lot down there. Asparagus are terrible
Eva: And so?
S: And so, if tonight Edoardo and I are gonna fuck again and he wants to go down there… I can’t eat them. Do you think I’m dumb?
Sana: Sincerely?
S: Come on…
Eva: Silvia, anyway, you need to know that you’re the one who has to ask boys to go down there, so you just need not to ask him anything and you can eat all the risotto you want
S: But if I wanted to ask him…?
F: You wouldn’t miss anything
Eva: Eh? What do you mean, Fede?
[2 missed calls from Edoardo]
F: There was this guy from Calabria at the holiday village… Guys, he wanted to do it to me by any means, by any means, he kept bothering me. So the last night I told him it was okay
Eva: What do you mean it was okay?! F: Yeah, I swear, he was such a burden! But, guys…
E: It’s done!
All: Yeah, c’mon!
F: Nice… And so, when he went down I didn’t feel anything. I got sleepy and fell asleep
Eva: How?! Come on, if he’s good you can’t get sleepy!
Sana: Thank you…
E: What? It’s good! Give me your plate
S: We’re just wasting it
F: Come on, at least try it
Sana: Cooking time of the risotto? Eight hours?
S: Eight days…
Sana: Come on, slow cooking…
Eva: Ele? Is this normal?
Filippo: Hello! What are you eating, asparagus?
F: Yes
Filo: But girls, never eat asparagus before a hook-up night
S: Thank you, thank you!
Sana: Just like you said
Filo: Do I have to teach you everything? Wow, this dress is beautiful. Get up, let me see! Wow, look how sparkly it is! Spin, spin, spin. Very cool
S: Right? It’s elegant on the top and and slutty on the bottom
Filo: Uhm, can I tell you the truth?
S: Yes
Filo: To me it looks like it’s all slutty. Top, bottom
S: But is it okay..?
Filo: Of course, love, of course! God, the basics. Can I drink?
E: Water?
Filo: No, love, water only if my room catches on fire
S: Guys, Edoardo texted me. So, “at what time are you getting here?”
E: We didn’t even start to eat the risotto…
S: Well, do I tell him in like half an hour?
Sana: We should go now to be there in half an hour. Tell him at least an hour
E: Even an hour and a half
Text from Edoardo: Of course the text was for you
Filo: Why, what do you have to do?
S: Go to a party with Edoardo
Filo: How boring with this Edoardo, come on..
E: Exactly! Eva, do you remember that super cool university party we were talking about, with Niccolò’s friends? Why don’t we all go there?
S: Because at one party there’s Edoardo and at the other there isn’t?
Filo: But, in all this, Edoardo is the stiff guy with shitty hair?
Sana: Edoardo, yes, that’s him. That’s exactly him
E: Come on, let’s go to this party which is way cooler and we can also meet new people, it’s better
Eva: Like Elia! For example...
S: Elia isn't someone we don't know.
E: But he's cute.
S: He's not better looking than Edoardo.
E: He's definitely nicer than Edoardo.
E: I agree. He's super funny.
S: Since when?
S: Especially when he tried to hang Osvaldo to the radio's microphone. To set it on fire.
F: I have to say that wasn't so nice of him.
E: Ok, but he said sorry. I remember he did.
S: You're crazy.
F: Can you let me see this Elia? I don't remember him. Uncle Filippo is gonna tell you if he's worth it.
S: Here he is.
F: Well, not bad!
S: No, Fili.
F: I'd fuck him without a thought. I swear. Of course, I wouldn't make him wear this jacket that only a chav could wear.
S: It's not only that.
E: What kind of beer is this?
F: I'd say he's super handsome and, especially, look at those lips.
E: Perfect, let's go to this party. Call Gio and tell him.
E: Okay and I'm gonna say that Silvia wants to fuck Elia.
S: Eva, absolutely not, you're drunk, no, don't do this.
F: I think we should have a toast to Silvia and Elia. Come on!
S: Is it possible to do that with water?
F: No, it's bad luck.
S: It's bad luck.
F: Not with water!
E: Can you hear me? How is it going? Okay, okay, now we’ll see. They went to Nathan's party, because Nico's party was shitty.
S: Fate.
F: Come on, let's stay here. Let's drink some more. You didn't even make me find a glass, when I came here with 9 beers.
S: Guys, it's Edoardo. Hello? Okay. Ele? He wants to talk to you.
E: With me? Okay. Hello?
S: I'll let you see something: 1, 2, 3. Guys, it won't fall. It's basically glued on it.
E: I won't stop using Silvia until you won't respect our deal.
S: What is he saying?
E: I don't have his number.
S: What number, maybe I have it.
E: Go on a date with me and I'll stop using Silvia, okay?
E: Okay. Bye.
E: Okay. Make me talk to Silvia.
E: He wants to talk to you.
S: Hello? Okay. Bye. He said way too many people are at Nathan's party and he won't let anyone in anymore.
F: I got this now.
S: What was the number that he wanted?
F: What do we care about Nathan Poggia?
S: What the hell...
F: She's got nice boobs today.
E: They exploded today!
F: I adore them.
S: You like them?
F: Yes, I could turn straight twice a week. Or three times. Come on, guys, up!
E's text: Friday at 19. I'll pick you up.

percabeth soulmate au
AN: hey guys first post thought i’d jump right in with a fic cause i’ve been reading soulmate aus non stop and i wanted to try. this was so fun and if anybody has something they want me to write let me know
prompt: somewhere on your body is your soulmate’s full name.
Percy had never truly been able to hide it. Sure, it was easy enough when it was cold, just throw on like 20 layers, problem solved. Summer, however, presented its own issues. Usually, he could get away with long sleeves, pushed up to his elbows. It was his thing, he found it comfortable. His tiny little apartment he shared with his mom and Paul didn’t have air conditioning, though, so wearing long sleeves some days felt like living in the ninth circle of hell. Swimming teams often required nothing but a speedo, which made it difficult for anyone to hide unless your soulmark was in quite an unfortunate place.
It wasn’t something he really wanted to hide either; he just always had, finding it easier when nobody asked questions. Do you know your soulmate? A question that truly haunted him. No, no he didn’t. He wished he did, he’d give anything, but he didn’t. He knew many people who waltzed around, soulmark loud and proud on their shoulder, wrist, behind their ear. For most people, that worked out. His cousin Jason had ordered a coffee at a little cafe down the street from their high school just last week, and the cute barista had written his full name, while he had only given his first. She’d seen the soulmark and recognized her name written in glossy gold on the back of his hand.
He supposed in the grand scheme of things, Percy was quite lucky. One boy in his gym class had admitted he couldn’t read his soulmark, saying he thought his soulmate lived in Russia or Sweden or China- he didn’t know, but he couldn’t even pronounce the name. Sympathetic glances were the best Percy could give the poor kid, not knowing how else to respond. He found his hand drifting towards his own soulmark more than it should have that day, deep in thought. She may be hard to find, but at least she was somewhere that spoke English.
Now, sat in his bedroom, he felt his fingers drift up again, feeling the pristine lettering. He could barely feel the difference between the writing and his actual skin by now. Percy had always found it a little too smooth, though, a little bit too perfect. Starting about halfway across the outside of his bicep, ending a little above his elbow, lay the name he’d had memorized as soon as his toddler brain could tell what it said. Annabeth Chase, glimmering gold glinting in the sunshine from his window.
He couldn’t help but wonder about her. Who was Annabeth? Sure, she was obviously perfect for Percy, but what did that mean? His cousins had invented a game when they were little, they’d guess about each other’s soulmates. Nico, the youngest, had been everyone’s favourite to think about. Will Solace, whoever he was, had quite the shoes to fill. Thalia had always thought he’d be a bad boy, saying the name had ‘that kind of ring too it.’ They had been way, way off for Thalia’s little brother, Jason though. Everyone besides Jason had decided from a young age that Piper McLean would be strong, independent, stone cold, just like everyone thought he was. Black hair, brown eyes, proud posture. One coffee trip later and they met a funny, brown-haired girl with Jason Grace on the side of her right index finger.
They all had different opinions on who Percy’s soulmate would be, but he never actually listened. Who did he think Annabeth would be? Someone who liked cuddling, definitely. A pretty laugh, one that sounded like a bell, and a nice smile. Maybe brown hair, he didn’t know. Caramel coloured, maybe a little bit darker, but he didn’t care. Hopefully, someone that liked all the same stuff as him, too. He would love her anyway. They were soulmates, after all. Annabeth would have to be able to keep him on his toes; that was something he was sure of.
It was lonely now, as he curled into his blanket and tried to shut his brain off. Just one nap, one hour, and then he’d be good to go. Swimming practice started in an hour and a half, and he had stayed up again, practically depressed waiting for his soulmate to fall madly in love with him. Most of his friends these days just showed up glowing and he could tell they’d met the one. He was happy for them, of course, he was, but it sucked. First, Travis met Katie in 10th grade and that started the snowball, and then it just kept on going and going and then Jason met Piper and Percy’s unrealistic sorrow kept growing.
“If you’d just tell me the name, I bet I could find them, and I’d set you guys up, and you’d name the first born after me.” Over the few weeks Percy had known her, Piper became one of his best friends. Only problem; severe meddler. Like, seriously, this girl could not mind her business. Not that it was such a bad thing all the time (she’s set up like 4 pairs of soulmates so far), but Percy quite liked having his privacy.
“I’ll pass, Pipes.” He chuckled, shaking his head. It was so far into the school year, he didn’t even look as he put in his locker combination. It turns out, Piper McLean had been under all of their noses for quite a while. Two whole years, in fact. Piper was a sophomore at Goode, and Percy and Jason were Juniors. Despite being a year younger, she fit right into the friend group.
Piper let out a deep sigh. She surely could tell that Percy was upset over all the soulmate business, and he knew she wanted to help. He appreciated it, really, he did, but he just didn’t want help on this. Those stupid chick flicks he’d watched with some of his girl friends - not girlfriends, though, as he was a firm soulmate believer- had tricked him into having some weird perfect meeting. You know, where they’d see each other across the party or some bar their separate friends had dragged them too and they’d be the only two people in the world? And the lights would all go dark and the crowd would clear a near-perfect path, and then they’d kiss and live happily for a while, and then fight but kiss in the rain and ride off into the sunset and-- okay, he definitely needed to quit it with the rom coms.
Or worse, imagine finally letting her help, and she couldn’t? The girl who knows everything and everyone, not knowing Percy’s soulmate? Absolutely heartbreaking, and totally a possibility. He’d tried to find her, too. He’d googled Annabeth Chase multiple times, and every time just coming up with the name of a doctor or some stupid website. Once, in third grade, he’d come up with a presentation on the water cycle that could’ve been by his Annabeth, but there was no way to know.    Shutting his locker and walking away, he smiled at Piper. Percy could see the sadness, the sympathy, in her eyes, and he wanted her to know he was fine. He was always fine, and he always would be. She smiled back, clearly not satisfied but she could tell she wouldn’t be getting a real answer. The big group was crowded around Thalia’s locker. She was a senior now, which Percy thought was crazy. It seemed like yesterday when she sat crossed legged on her bed, telling him, Jason, and Nico what a soulmate was. Her pigtails weren’t even that day, and you could see he tongue poke through the gap where her front tooth should have been.
Thalia’s soulmark had turned black last year. Soulmarks turning black never had a true meaning. It could mean they didn’t believe in soulmates, they were in a serious relationship,  they were deadly sick,  had amnesia,  couldn’t read it anymore, somehow got rid of their soulmark, or worst of all, dead. None of the options were good. Thalia had driven up to Percy’s house that day and they’d watched stupid chick flicks ‘til she was all cried out. Which was weird, because Thalia Grace hadn’t cried since Bobby Henderson cut her hair off in preschool. Now, though, she said it didn’t bother her. It didn’t mean she’d never find love. People were born without soulmates all the time, she’d love one of them. Percy could tell she was hurting, though, cause nobody else would ever be Luke Castellan, whoever that was.
Nico appeared in a frenzy. His long dark hair was totally awry, and his backpack hit the floor so he could catch his breath. He was smiling like crazy, just going nuts, and Percy knew right then, it happened. Will Solace, Nico’s personal prince charming had appeared, ready to sweep him off his feet. Everyone knew, everyone smiled, and as Piper was about to ask what he was like, Nico held out his hand and cut her off.
“Frank, I met her.” This shocked Percy. To his knowledge, nobody had ever seen Frank’s soulmark. He kept it a secret, more so than Percy did. “Hazel Levesque, right? She’s a freshman, her locker’s next to mine.” Frank lit up, and the two of them raced down the hallway, joy written on their faces. The group clapped and whistled as he followed Nico. He met Hazel at lunch that day, and she was perfect for Frank. Absolutely adorable, a total sweetheart. Her soulmark sat on her wrist, so it was no wonder Nico had seen it.
All he needed was a suit that actually fit him. His mom’s wedding with Paul was in a week, and he just needed to look presentable. His dad had been his mom’s soulmate, but he got lost at sea when Percy was 3. Sally’s soulmark had turned black a long time ago, and he was happy she was in love again. Paul had been born without a soulmate, which is really tough luck, but he made Sally happy and that was good enough.
Some tailor shop in the mall. He was bringing Jason and Piper to keep him company as he awkwardly got measured. One, single hope he had was that this was a girl tailor. Actually, did he want a girl tailor? Would that be worse? He had no idea, but he wasn’t looking forward to it.
In hindsight, he shouldn’t have brought Piper with him. Maybe Nico or Thalia, or someone who had already seen the soulmark. Anyways, Jason and Piper sat on chair as Percy got measured basically everywhere. The girl taking his measurements was quite pretty, really. Elegant. She introduced herself as Calypso. She was sweet. It was a lot less awkward having a tailor who was actually friendly.
And then his shirt came off, and Piper sat up straight. Trying desperately to read the name (see? Meddler.), but totally failing. Percy almost had half a mind to be smug about it, and then he remembered he was half naked and his confidence drained. He could always keep it out of her sight, because she was on the other side of the room and Calypso- bless her- blocked the name in the reflection. At one point, Percy thought she was doing it on purpose, and he wanted to thank her, but didn’t. Piper left moping about how unsuccessful her attempt had been and he smirked the whole way home.
The wedding came before he knew it, and he was walking his mom down the aisle to give her away. It was crazy. Percy teared up a bit during the vows, and Jason clapped him on the shoulder. When it was time for them to kiss, both of them whistled. Percy kind of wanted to yell ‘get a room,’ but Nico talked him out of it. Before he knew it, it was over, and his mom was not Sally Jackson, she was Sally Blofis. Piper, Jason, Thalia, and Nico crowded into the cab back to Percy’s apartment, ‘cause he didn’t want to be alone now that his mom was on a honey moon.
The navy suit had done him well, and everyone could agree. He looked good. A couple girls had offered him their numbers, but he turned them all down. Annabeth was out there somewhere, and Percy couldn’t wait. He was so lonely, especially at a wedding, it was unbelievable. Thalia had alternated dancing with him and Nico and man, it was sad.
“Percy, do you have 5 bucks? I lost a bet!” Nico called through the small apartment. Percy had lost the suit hours ago, chucking the coat on the rack and everything else in a pile on his desk chair. He was cooking now, in pajama shirts as everyone else watched a movie on his couch.    “Check my coat!” He yelled back, repeating himself when he was met with a loud ‘WHAT?’ He shook his head; those guys were practically blowing out their eardrums in there, the TV was so loud. People crowded around him for literally no reason a few minutes later. Agitated, he turned. Nico was holding a small, white piece of paper in his hand, smirk on his face.
“Who’s Calypso?” He asked. He waved the paper in front of Percy’s face. Written on it in black ink was:
043-08543. ;) -Calypso
Percy snatched the paper from his hand as quick as he could. “Uh, she was my tailor,” he answered, confused. “Where did you get this?” “Your coat pocket.” Nico shrugged. “She must have slipped it to you during the appointment.”
“Yeah,” Percy scratched the back of his neck. “Must’ve.”
“Are you gonna text her?” Thalia asked, leaning over the counter to snatch a piece of food off Percy’s plate. He shook his head. No, he couldn’t do that. Annabeth was out there, waiting for him.
“Oh, come on! You might not meet your soulmate for twenty years! Have a little fun. Text her, and if you aren’t comfortable with it then, block her. Easy peasy!” She said, grabbing another piece. Percy yanked the plate away and put it behind him, where Jason and Piper ate half of it in, like, 4 seconds. He groaned and threw the plate on the table where they all scrambled to finish it.
He couldn’t do that to Annabeth. She would love him in the future. Hopefully. They’d wake up on Sundays together and he’d make her breakfast, and they’d watch TV in their pajamas. He’d take her to dinner with his mom and Paul and it’d be awesome. She’d run her fingers through his hair and he’d tug on hers, and if it was long enough maybe he’d learn to braid it.
But at the same time, Thalia was right, and he knew it. Annabeth could be living in Scotland for all he knew, and he might never even meet her. But Annabeth was going to be the love of his life. He was torn.
“Alright, I’ll do it.” Thalia, Jason, and Nico cheered, but Piper shook her head. At her disapproving glance, he clarified “but it’ll only be as friends.”
“Ugh, boo,” Thalia whined as she flicked food at Percy’s head. He made sure to mess up her hair as he reached and grabbed the paper from Nico.
His hands were shaking. It was dumb, totally stupid. Why was he nervous? This girl had seen him mostly naked before, and this was for friends anyway, right? Right? He totally wasn’t nervous. Not at all. Definitely not. This wasn’t Annabeth. He typed in the phone number, face heating up as he realized everyone was watching him.
To 043-08543 ____ hey it’s percy
____
He hit send and high-fived his cousins on the way past. He threw his phone onto the recliner in the living room as he entered. He refused to freak out and wait for a reply from a girl who wasn’t his soulmate. He just wouldn’t.
Hours past, Disney movies had been marathoned, and Thalia picked up Percy’s phone.
“You got an answer!” She called excitedly. His head snapped up. “I didn’t open it, relax,” She said as she tossed him the phone. He caught it.
From 043-08543 ____ Jackson? This is Annabeth Chase, how’d you get this number? ____
And he was laughing and smiling. The world was brighter now, he was sure of it.
“Look, look!” He called, no doubt looking like an idiot.
Annabeth was amazing. Worth every single second of the wait.
Percy had always pictured brown hair on Annabeth. Caramel, maybe a little darker. And now she was blond. Annabeth was a blonde with perfect princess curls that he loved to tug on. Her eyes were grey, and they were so unique. Storm clouds went through that girl’s brain, he was sure of it.
Annabeth raked her fingers through Percy’s hair, and he leaned into her touch. His bed wasn’t lonely anymore. She liked to touch her name written in gold, along part of his bicep. Percy didn’t hide it anymore, and it felt liberating. His name was in smooth gold letters on the back of her neck. He kissed it sometimes, and it made her shiver.
After Percy got that text, they’d agreed to meet up for coffee. Right then, he knew that soulmates were worth it. She’d admitted a few days into their relationship that she hadn’t always believed in soulmates (“I’m a child of divorce,” she’d said. “You can’t blame me.”) but Percy was the best thing that had ever happened to her. It hurt him at first, but the first kiss came, and then they were officially dating, and he stopped caring.
He understood now. Everything seemed to make sense. All the bragging everyone did that had driven him crazy when he was perpetually single was starting to become a habit for him. What? He couldn’t help it; she was perfect.
Reality crashed back and Annabeth was pulling him towards her, connecting their lips. Her lips were really soft, he always noticed. Every time they connected, it made something in Percy go absolutely nuts. Like every ounce of his being was telling him ‘This is perfect, do not screw it up.’ And fireworks or whatever were cliché as hell, but Percy was definitely starting to catch on.

Loser’s Club as camp half blood kids hc
(These are terribly organized I’m so sorry, all under the cut)
Stan: deffo an Athena kid, look at that little logic man and tell me he’s not Athena. He would be extremely talented on the battle field but would rarely want to fight (besides, why do that when he could command his battalion in capture the flag) and he somehow befriended an owl in his third year at camp and it’ll do whatever he wants (including keeping richie in check)
Ben: also in the Athena cabin, but one of the softer of them. Always wins when they’re tasked with a building competition cause he actually reads up on what types of structures work best,,he would develop and design all of the Athena cabin weaponry and would specially design stuff for stanley. Their cabin is the coolest one because Ben is always reconstructing as needed, and it’s never too full because he has somehow developed a building that expands as needed, but only on the inside. This kid is fucking gifted.
Mike: Jesus imagine my boy mike as a Persephone kid that’s the cutest shit I’ve ever seen,,,persephone kids are almost as rare (if not more) than big three kids, so he lives in the Demeter cabin. the whole camp would adore him and the wood nymphs would love talking to this ~one~ boy because he has major respect for all parts of nature,, he would grow lil flowers to give to everyone and would make flower crowns for bev,,and although he is a little flower child he takes capture the flag VERY seriously if he’s up against his Losers. (The wood nymphs love doing favors for him such as tripping richie and taking bev’s sword right out of her hand)
Richie: holy fuck he would definitely end up head of the Hermes cabin (somehow) and he would be worse than the Stoll brothers combined,,,don’t ask how he managed to acquire a dildo tree or get a Trojan horse to camp without anyone noticing, he’s also ~conveniently~ part messenger god, which makes sending pranks to people even easier (also imagine the first time he tries to use the winged converse y i k e s there was definitely a face plant in there)
Bill: listen,,,,he would definitely be a Zeus kid if he wasn’t such an angery piece of shit,,, so you better believe he is one of the softest Hades kids to ever enter that camp,,,when he got bored he’d summon cool rocks and shit. As soon as he hears of Nico being able to summon the dead he pesters him into teaching him, learning extremely quickly how to summon spirits. Every once in a while the losers cant find bill, cause he’s sitting in a hidden cave he managed to create, talking to Georgie
Bev: listen my fiery girl would obviously be an Ares kid. She may be the nicest in the cabin, but you’re dead wrong if you think for a second she wouldn’t beat your ass if provoked. Her and Stan definitely have a friendly rivalry in capture the flag (or any battle-related activity, for that matter.) she loves her bf Ben but she can’t help but coaxing the latest Athena cabin weaponry plans out of him. Ben goes to mush as soon as Bev talks to him, and every thought he had of keeping the developments to the cabin goes out the door with one look into those eyes. Coincidentally, next week’s capture the flag battle is between Ares and Athena, and Ben is completely lost as to how the Ares cabin somehow had counter measures for all of their weaponry,, he’d been planning them for months, and had picked through all of the Ares cabin’s tactics previous to this, how did they know? Let’s just say stan was HEATED
Eddie: okay with an idiot of a boyfriend like richie (who constantly forgets where he sets up traps during capture the flag) eddie needs to be able to fix his boy. He may not seem like an Apollo boy other than the fact that he’s wicked good at being camp medic, but he’s getting pretty dialed in on his foresight (even though it only consistently reaches about an hour into the future.) still, this makes fixing up his idiots easier, as he knows exactly what to pack in his magic fanny pack (think Leo’s tool belt) before every capture the flag (even though he no longer needs it, after realizing that it wasn’t his drugs healing him but his own abilities). After LOTS of practice, Eds walks up to richie, touches his forehead, and richie fucking loses his shit because h o l y s h i t why is everything so blurry??? Before taking his glasses off and crying because everything is in focus
Also:
-bill and mike always help in developing the area for the capture the flag games and make sure it’s aesthetically pleasing, interesting, and different from the last time
-SHIT AND MIKE AND THE DEMETER CABIN MAKE CORN MAZE CAPTURE THE FLAG FOR FALL (complete with spooky scares from the grain nymphs)
-most of the hades kids come and go, so billiam is alone a lot in his cabin, making the hades cabin basically the loser’s cabin for sleepovers
-(bill also sleeps in the Athena cabin a lot cause of the immense space and his bf)
-Eds discovers his poetic abilities when sitting with Ben and trying to think of what to say to ask rich out
-Eds definitely also helps richie write songs
-richie is a large lanky boy but somehow kicks ass when they have track events (its one of the only places he doesn’t trip)
-his biggest threat? Billiam, aka lanky boy #2
-“it’s not fair, he can literally influence the track and make my lane turn into sand!” “S-step up your p-prank game, tozier”
-richie replaces bill’s shoes with some winged ones and Jesus Christ he’s never laughed as hard as he did when bill hit the side of the big house as soon as the race started
-eddie never really pursues his artistic abilities but one time rich has a bad night and sends Eds a message to meet him at the hades cabin (bill is with Stan) and he finds richie panicking over a nightmare so he starts singing to richie and holy shit richie was crying but not cause of his nightmare
-mike always brings flowers to the medics tent and brings some of each patients’ favorites to put at their bedside
-mr d cannot stand richies existence sometimes but all of that is forgotten when richie somehow gets him some ancient bottle of wine that d hasn’t seen in millennia
-whenever eddie sees richie’s laugh or smile the camp gets a lil brighter for a second
-sometimes mike goes and sits with bill while he’s talking to Georgie. He helped him with hiding bill’s little spot, can also (to an extent) contact the dead, and bill trusts him immensely. Bill loves the losers but most of the time he just wants to talk to Georgie alone. When he does invite the losers to come talk, they don’t go to bill’s spot
-I can’t help but imagining mike making all of the losers little flower crowns made of assorted flowers and all of them match the person
-richie has so many laurel wreaths from mike due to his immense list of track records
-they think bill was conceived while the gods were battling with their second self, because he was claimed by hades but has the ability to conjure metals and jewels like Pluto (which is super uncommon when you’re Greek)
-(of course he gets his bf’s cabin some of the best metals for weapons)
-richie somehow gets all of the Good Shit from the outside world into the camp. Nintendo switch? Stan buys it off of him the first day rich has it (along with all the Mario games that comes with it.) cigarettes? Him and Bev share those. Books from libraries across the world? Ben is still amazed as to how richie gets a hold of some of the Ancient Greek texts he sells him but he’s not complaining.
-Eds sometimes misses his boyfriends stupid glasses, so richie finds some hipster glasses and wears them sometimes
-sometimes Eds wishes he had better luck with curses bc sometimes his boyfriend needs to shut the fuck up
-richie and Bev live at camp year round, while bill and Ben often return home, eddie has to go home every break (no matter how short), and mike and stan only goes home on the really long ones
-mike also helps Eddie with finding certain medicinal herbs (richie of course finds the medical marijuana eddie is keeping hidden in his fanny pack)
-instead of “your mom” jokes richie now makes jokes relating to Percy (with only the occasional jokes about mrs k) because come on he’s now the camp mom
-“wait eddie this is so gross that we’re dating cause we’re related” “fuck off richie” “gives me more of a reason to date your mom”
-eddie always makes sure Bill gets enough sunlight,,,that kids depressed enough he needs some vitamin d
-Stan’s owl friend always watches the cabins during the night, and when he sees richie setting trip wires and such on the playing ground, alerts stan
-eddie teaches richie guitar, which he picks up on quickly. It’s one of the only things his Hermes dexterity applies to, and his lankiness gives him a little bit of an advantage
-reddie is the musical power couple that everyone loves during campfires, although Eddie objects every time until richie literally pulls him to the middle of the circle with Eddie on one knee and his guitar on the other
-they have WiFi thanks to richie
-richie sets up sensors on all the cabin doors on April first and the first door to be opened (bill’s) sets off speakers in all the cabins, blasting Africa by Toto at full bass and full volume
-let’s just say eddie didn’t talk to him for four days because WHY WOULD TOU DO TJAT RICHARD
-“wait bill can you have blue fire hair like hades in Hercules??” “Richie I s-swear to god”
-eddie purposely makes it sunny all the time cause he loves the way the sun shines in Rich’s hair and gives him lil freckles :,,,,)
-Ben appreciates the sun too because bev’s hair looks like fire and she gets so many freckles
-Percy stays at camp during breaks cause he knows how lonely it can get and it always helps for richie to have one more friend while most of his are gone
-he adopts richie cause he sees a little bit of himself in that little shithead (and he may use him to long-distance pester Jason with letters rigged to spew water at him as soon as he opens the envelope before pulling out a soggy piece of blue paper that says “hope you’re not missing us too much in California”)
-Annabeth ADORES Ben and Stanley, she basically adopts them as her kids cause Ben is an intelligent little softie and stan is equally intelligent (although in battle strategy rather than crafting)
-Ben loves it when annabeth visits cause he has someone to show his architectural plans to and help him revise them
-Ben gets SUPER good at architecture, so good in fact that he’s literally hired at age sixteen to help in construction in Olympus
-Hermes learned from his mistakes of neglecting his kids, and is sure as hell to visit and talk to richie and the others as often as he can, especially Richie because of his family history
-after the Athena cabin’s plan backfire, stan gets richie’s assistance in payback (he gets the Hephaestus cabin to create weapons that look exactly like the Ares cabins’, but turn into a mini metal figurine of richie doing finger guns as soon as the capture the flag buzzers go off)
-Bev has a rage in her eyes that hasn’t been seen since they defeated IT, and sweet sweet Ben has to hold her back and (try) to calm her down until bill can come in and make her pass out
-she wakes up kicking and screaming with her entire cabin giving up at blocking her from the door and parting like the Red Sea as soon as they see a red glow surrounding her
-this is the one time bill allows a third loser into his cave hiding place, as nobody knows where it is (he made richie pass out as well before taking him into the cave to protect him from the Wrath of Beverly)
-Bev finally calms down (eddie may have put that medical marijuana to use in some special tea he’s formulated)
-mike sometimes just goes and sits in the forest if he can’t sleep. He loves how it looks at night, and how many odd creatures are roaming around
-he meets Grover one night, and they instantly become great friends
-Grover figures out that one of the wood nymphs has a crush on mike, and plays match maker
-the losers notice mike going to the forest more frequently, and while walking back into camp, little patches of flowers grow in his footprints
-when they start dating, mike likes to make his girlfriend’s tree bloom, and changes the color and type of flower each time
-they’re adorable and everyone loves them
-he protects her tree with all costs, as its life is tied to hers
-mr d has definitely found richie in his underwear and a camp Jupiter shirt passed out on the steps of the big house at 6 in the morning, with Richie holding a bottle of fireball
-richie was put on pegasus shit duty for a week, and Eddie refused to rid him of his immense hangover
-somehow richie gets a cat into the camp, its the camp pet and rich always brings it into the med tent to cheer up injured and sickly kids
-the cat mainly lives there, but it goes to bill’s cabin a lot for peace and quiet
-listen,,, the cat would totally have some horrible name that richie makes up like mr noodles and mr d would be so confused as to who mr noodles could be
-Ben my sweet boy and Stanley sometimes sit with mike in the forest during the day. Mike and stan watch the birds, and Ben reads more of the books rich has smuggled in
-richie tozier makes it his goal to get as many aphrodite kids after him as possible (eddie acts like he hates it but knows his idiot would never leave him)
-literally half the Aphrodite cabin is in love with him, and the other half isn’t interested in guys
-richie gets mike to give him assortments of flowers, and brings them to Eddie in the medics tent every morning
-it’s basically like an alarm cause every day, without fail, the sun will shine a little too brightly at 8 am
If you took the time to read all this you’re a Saint and I appreciate you

Look anon. LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO
Sure, I thought of teams for the 7 plus Nico and Reyna... but once I got going I also had to make ones for Thalia and Will, then other characters too! I’m lucky I stopped myself from making ones for the godly parents.
OK, reasons under here because this is a lot-
Percy; naturally lots of Water types. I think if Kingdra being like a hippocampus, Dewott is basically Percy personified, he obviously had to get Honedge for his sword, Vanillite and Muk are his ice/poison powers, and Houndour is his friendly hellhound. Kyogre is the big bad sea monster, so that fits
Annabeth; if I didn’t give her a Noctowl I wouldn’t be doing this right, Espeon and Ralts are both Psychic types so they work for her brains, Ninetales and (Alola) Raichu kinda go with how she looks (blonde and pretty, but powerful), and Kecleon can disappear just like when she puts on her hat. Uxie is the knowledge legendary, so she’d definitely have one
Jason; Electric types for sure, like Ampharos and Joltik, and Zebstrika is a bit like Tempest, since Jason flies he also gets some birds like Swablu (who is literally like a cute little piece of the sky) and Pidgeotto, plus Bisharp is like a tough soldier. Zapdos is the perfect blend of Electric and Flying
Piper; she’s resourceful she she gets Linoone (it can learn almost attack), Sylveon is the epitome of beautiful with an edge, it is probably mandatory for all Aphrodite kids to get a Luvdisc, Chespin and Tropis represent the Cornucopia, and Riolu is her inexperience in battle but great fighting capability. Meloetta is the perfect choice for charmspeak
Hazel; Sableye is a Ghost who also loves gems, Mismagius gives off magical mist vibes, Rapidash is for Arion, Cubone is her connection to the earth (also bones for the underworld kid), Amaura is another cute precious stone critter, and Absol is the misunderstood bad-luck. Diancie is everything about the wealth of the earth
Frank; Ditto for obvious shape-shifting reasons, Ursaring and Phanpy for the bear and elephant forms, Machoke for when he goes through Ares puberty, Makuhita because Frank is an adorable fighter, and Decidueye for the archery. Victini is the victory mascot, but also a Fire type, so ironic significance
Nico; Ghost types for the ghost king, Duskull is just him as a Pokemon, Haunter and Chandelure for his intimidating spooky powers, Yamask and Phantump for the frightened kid he started out as, and Tyranitar (because it can eat its way through a mountain, and Nico literally got out of the deepest depths of Tratarus). Why wouldn’t he have a big goth bat like Lunala
Will; Solroc because obviousness, also Sunflora for the same reason, Jigglypuff is the sweet side of music Noibat is for the harsher sounds, Blissey is a healer, Blaziken is lanky and athletic. Solgaleo so he matches Nico
Leo; Metagross for the papa Forger god, Sentret because it is a little Swiss-army-knife Pokemon, c’mon it is named Litleo I had to, Magnemite for the machines, Charmeleon and Volcarona for the Fire abilities. Rotom is the perfect thing for a gizmo obsessed kid
Support characters; Skiddo for Grover, Bellossom for Juniper, Bewear for Tyson (I guess I could’ve gone with Dusclops, but Tyson is so lovable), Fletchling for Ella, Meowth and Yungoose for the Stoll brothers, Delcatty for Silena, Scizor for Beckendorf (big strong Steel type made sense), Emboar for Clarisse, Suicune for Calypso (a very pretty Water type that also controlls the wind), and Delphox for Rachel Elizabeth Dare
Reyna; both Lycanroc for her gold and silver dogs, Spearow for it shall become a regal bird, Shuppet for he ability to inspire emotions in others, Minccino because she used to work at the spa, and Gallade because she will wreck you. Verizion might not literally be a unicorn, but it has the same majestic quality
Thalia; Luxray is both Electric and really punk looking so she’d love it, Sudowoodo because it looks like a tree but is not a tree, Unbreon for punk and night time reasons, Elekid for her brash and sparky personality, Aaron for her love of silver, and Lunatone because every Hunter of Artemis needs one. Since she’s more comfortable on the ground than Jason, she gets the Electric beast Raikou

*sorry for rushed bad art.*
No worries, it doesn’t look bad at all.
(A bit of context. This is a zombie infection on a smallish scale during present time (only a small area affected) so while everything is going on the government is covering things up from the public at large. So if it seems odd that people aren’t freaking out, it’s a very isolated thing.)
Character’s full name: Isabella Lolita Peste
Reason or meaning of name: Isabella = Devoted to god/ gift from god Lolita = sorrow/suffering Peste= plague/disease
Was this a name given to her at birth or given by herself? Because it’s very fitting, her parents must have assumed she’d be fucked from birth.
Character’s nickname: Izzy, Rotting one, Plague mistress Reason for nickname: Izzy is what her family and friends called her, the other two are titles she has been given as her reputation grew.
Plague Mistress sounds really neat.
Birth date: December 14th, 1315
Physical appearance Age: At time of story roughly 700 years old
How old does he/she appear: It’s hard to tell as he face is heavily disfigured by her body’s decomposition.
How does she keep it from completely rotting and rendering her entirely useless and immobile?
Weight: 56 pounds. (Has lost weight due to starvation and decomposition)
Height: 5’7”
Body build: Ectomorph
Shape of face: sharp and pronounced eyebrow, chin and cheekbones.
Eye color: formerly brown, now do to ruptured veins and arteries in the eyes are redish-black.
Glasses or contacts: none
Skin tone: formerly a nice olive, now a greyish green.
Distinguishing marks: Right cheek has rotted away, multiple cuts on neck and forehead. Veins and arteries are easily visible.
From what?
Hair color: once a dark brown now faded to a greyish brown.
Type of hair: straight hair that seems limp and lifeless
Hairstyle: shoulder blade length, shaggy unkempt.
Voice: A soft, raspy whisper.
Overall attractiveness: uh unless you like zombies not very.
Don’t kinkshame the necrophiliacs.
Physical disabilities: blind, and can’t feel physical sensations (ie someone tapping her or running into something) very well.
How does she do things if she can’t see or feel things? Smell? Sound?
Usual fashion of dress: ripped and tattered commoners clothes from the 13th century.
Personality Good personality traits: passionate and determined for her work, rather careful about what she says or does and is very patient. (Progress and success take time after all!)
Bad personality traits: obsessive over every little detail, absolutely a neat freak of the highest order, way to serious about her work.
Mood character is most often in: curious
Sense of humor: loves others pain and laughs at their misery. Mostly because she caused it.
Character’s greatest joy in life: watching her creations (deadly diseases) do as intended.
Character’s greatest fear: That she will be stopped.
Why? It would delay scientific growth and mean the destruction of her creations.
What single event would most throw this character’s life into complete turmoil? Regaining her humanity or finding love.
....Why love gotta be included, she’s a little dead and rotting. I was joking, please kinkshame the necrophiliacs.
Character is most at ease when: she has been working nonstop for days.
Most ill at ease when: In the presence of non sick humans
Enraged when: her creations fail.
Depressed or sad when: flashes of her former life surface.
Priorities: her work before all else.
Life philosophy: nature is a cycle, you are born, you live, you die, and your body helps the next generation in the cycle live. This cycle is absolute and can not be stopped or delayed, only sped up.
If granted one wish, it would be: to finally be able to die. Not that she is aware of it.
Why? Her humanity is disgusted by what she has done and would like to end this monster she has become.
Character’s soft spot: rats. Or any other disease carrying animals.
Is this soft spot obvious to others? If others got close to her, most definitely.
How are people able to get close to her???
Greatest strength: her intelligence.
Greatest vulnerability or weakness: her obsessiveness.
Biggest accomplishment: her ‘improved’ version of the bubonic plague.
Character’s darkest secret: regrets everything but is compulsed to continue creating deadly diseases.
Does anyone else know? No.
Goals Drives and motivations: A compulsive need to create more horrific diseases to unleash upon the world.
Immediate goals: work on whatever project she has on the go.
Long term goals: figuring out how she became the intelligent dead.
How the character plans to accomplish these goals: work no stop until she figures it out.
How other characters will be affected: they will be her guinea pigs for the new infections and mutations.
Past Hometown: small fishing village (name is a work in progress)
Type of childhood: average for a 13th century Italian peasant woman.
First memory: picking flowers in a field with a blurry figure she thinks is her mother.
Most important childhood memory: being married off to an older man.
Why: she despised him and it hurt that her family cared more about status then her.
Dream job: would have loved to be a sailor but women were considered bad luck to have on board a ship.
I assume diseased ones are especially bad luck.
Education: learned household chores from her mother.
Religion: Roman catholic.
Present Current location: somewhere in the USA
Religion: Roman catholic.
Occupation: ‘researcher’
Family Mother: Maria Peste Relationship with her: somewhat distant.
Father: Giovanni Peste Relationship with him: hates him for forcing her into a marriage she did not want.
Siblings: two brothers and a sister. Relationship with them: never met them, they died in infancy.
Spouse: Nico grassi Relationship with him/her: Despises him and finds him gross.
Children: Lunette Grassi Relationship with them: loved them dearly, died young in an accident.
Well given she was from the 13th century I’m assuming everyone here is actually dead. Why only mention that some are? If they aren’t dead, why aren’t they?
Traits Optimist or pessimist? Pessimist
Introvert or extrovert? Introvert
Daredevil or cautious? Cautious
Logical or emotional? Emotional
Disorderly and messy or methodical and neat? Disorderly and messy
Prefers working or relaxing? Working
Confident or unsure of himself/herself? Confident.

Self-perception How he/she feels about himself/herself: both as a monster and as the caretaker of the cycle.
One word the character would use to describe self: Monster (for the human side) Guardian (the rest of her)
Relationships with others Opinion of other people in general: insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Does the character hide his/her true opinions and emotions from others? Not at all, she is an open book that talks so to speak.

Bio
Isabella was born during the early 13th century and had a normal childhood for the time, learning sowing and other domestic tasks from her mother while her father taught her how to read and write.
Eventually when she came of age, she was immediately married off to one of the rich traders in town to help boost her family’s status. She hated her husband, and fought the union every way she could. But it was all in vain and she was married to him, and eventually had one child named Lunette.
Isabella may have hated her spouse, but she loved her daughter dearly. Lunette was a light in her life, and Lunette’s presence made the forced marriage bearable. But this was not to last.
When Lunette was 10 she was killed in an accident while playing at the docks. The pier she was on collapsed and she was dragged under the water by the currents. They never found her body.
Isabella grieved, she wailed and she cried for the loss of her daughter. Isabella refused to eat, sleep or drink, instead she would sit by the docks and stare out into the ocean. This lead to her being one of the first to die to the bubonic plague/the black death.
Her corpse was dumped in a mass grave away from the town, and while she lay decomposing, the disease began to mutate. It began to preserve what little of her remains that had not rotted, and caused angry blisters and welts to forum on her body. Then in the early 16th century she woke up.
Why?
Hazy memories are all she had, so she began to wander. She sparked terror across Italy as she drifted around, aggravated by her hunger and a nagging urge at the back of her mind. Eventually the hunger got so bad she dug up fresh bodies in a cemetery and devoured them.
She soon gained the title of the rotting one after her ghoulish appearance, on top of becoming An urban legend, one calling her a herald of sickness and hard times ahead.
She was oblivious to all this, but what come to her attention was the rumors of the new world. So through one way or another Isabella went to what would become America, and isolated herself.
Eventually she began to grow bored, and this boredom led to pay attention to the advancements in medicine. The dull urge in the back of her mind came to the for front and pushed her to begin experimenting on the bodies of those who died do to diseases.
Over the years her research lead to the creation of many horrible illnesses, which she kept hidden from the world in an abandoned coal mine. Then finally she created he raster piece, a virus that would turn others into what she was.
She released the virus into all nearby water sources, and slowly all nearby towns and cities became infected. It spread quickly, but the results were not what she had hoped. Instead of being sentient and intelligent, the infected were basically brain dead and stupid. Isabella was enraged and threw herself back into her work, improving and strengthening the virus.
But as she did this, Isabella noticed some people were immune to her creation. Eventually she fixated on a group of survivors lead by ex chef Kevin Springs, and she was smitten. She became obsessed with Kevin, to the point she would begin to stalk him and ignore her work.
Why???
The stalking escalated to her harassing his survivor group, attempting to kill the others and to get close to Kevin. She hunted the group down and managed to kill Kevin at the time love interest, but was severely wounded. This caused her to back off for a time to lick her wounds and regroup.
How is she able to be wounded?
Eventually after men conflicts Kevin and his group found out about her being sentient, and the source for the infection. So they began to track her back to her hide out. There they confront her for the last time and kill her.
And finally Isabella was free, and with her notes the government created the cure to the virus and everything was covered up.
I’m not sure if she counts as a villain, but I think she would be. The story is very work in progress, and any and all suggestions for what I could fix or change is appreciated.
I definitely consider her a villain, yes. She’s pretty interesting, I do love the idea of a mother of disease pretty much. It sounds really cool.
I think things like her general anatomy need work, like how does she work? How has she survived, why was she revived, why did it take so long for her to be revived, things like that.
Generally, I despise “zombies”, but I think this is a pretty neat concept.

kotoumi fanfic
Word count: 3109
Pairing(s): Kotoumi
Tags: Fluff and Hurt/Comfort, teasing, it’s supposed to be just gag, #letsgiveitatryandimproveourengrish
You don’t need to take this serious and I don’t know why I wrote this. This week is my final exam week. Wish me luck.
I hope you enjoy this and sorry if there is any mistake.
You got a boyfriend?
Kotori was looking out of the window. Her eyes landed on the clouds over blue sky. The pen on her little hand had been rotating right to left sides as she was sighing over something that other muse members couldn’t interpret. Honoka was the first one who noticed the little birb was as if overlooking or searching for an answer for a long time, though her outer shell has spoken otherwise. Always smiling, never forgetting the pleasant aura she would always carry around her friends.
“We should do something!” A sudden hit onto the club table, Honoka got everyone’s attention at one milisecond.
Nico has already turned her back from looking at idol sites to her leader. Rolling her eyes, she got up and held her leader’s shoulders. “Do you seriously think she would ever need our help.’’ hesitating for a moment, ‘’ I don’t think it is such an important case to be talking right now.”
A serious atmosphere sank in, no one made a move except the blonde who held up Nico’s sleeve and slowly tugged along with a soft voice of hers. “Nico, don’t act like you don’t care. We know you care about her as much as we do for.“
After Eli’s little surprising confession, Nico’s pale face turned to Maki’s red hair? and no longer said anything to oppose. Honoka returned her leader mode again and her eyes beamed as the new idea dawned on her. “How about splitting into groups and observe what makes her upset?”
A classic Honoka-ish problem-solving case.
‘‘Great idea, Honoka-chan!’‘ Rin was the first to accept the idea.
As soon as Rin’s energetic answer was shown, everyone nodded
Except one person who always considered Honoka’s extraordinary idea once more to promulgate.
Umi knitted her brows, her expression was saying  this was not a good idea to be healthy one. At least for her ethical behavoir. ‘‘Honoka, don’t you think this is her privacy,’‘ She turned her head to Eli. ‘‘and I can’t believe you agreed such a bad idea, Eli.’‘
Eli didn’t even have to react. She grinned mischievously as she leapt from her seat to Umi’s near, holding her shoulder to start teasing. ‘’Nee Umi?’’
The proximity melted her stern gaze. She could only answer with a ‘‘Hmm?’‘ A pink blush covering her face.
Her lips approached Umi’s flushed ear. ‘‘Our great sweet archer Umi doesn’t want to know her little cute childhood friend’s secrets?’‘ Nozomi quickly nudged the blonde’s stomach rigorously, then Eli headed back to stop herself from teasing. She was sweating more than Umi because of the bad aura she got from the spiritual girl. Umi, though, was rather oblivious to what was implied.
‘‘W-why do I?’‘
No one has answered for a long time with the thought of ‘she might find the answer by herself later’.
–------
A long discussion between club members tired Umi. How could everyone agree to such a shameless idea? Maybe Kotori, herself found a boyfriend and she’d indeed need help how to date with him.. Wait.. What if it is really all about boyfriends?
Umi was rolling over her bed whenever her mind clouded with this kind of thoughts. She took her pillow to cover her head to prevent herself from thinking too much. Well.. it was concluded more of a shout out like ‘‘It’s all your fault, Honoka!’‘ into her poor pillow-chan.
She calmed down a little after, got up from her bed. The incomplete lyrics were waiting on her kotatsu. Scribbling on papers has always helped her nerve system whenever she couldn’t control her feelings because the pressure-kun and expectation-kun were her brutal enemy, but this case was different.
‘‘I need to ask her directly. There is something else that doesn’t feel right. Honoka’s method doesn’t take us anywhere.’’ She said to herself as she calmly returned to writing.
Next day, Kotori was first to head home when the practice was finished, putting a question mark to everyone’s mind more. Other members quickly gathered around Honoka except Umi. Her train of thoughts was following a different path.
‘‘Then it’s decided!’‘ Honoka rushed out from crowd and started to explain everything by gesturing how to stick to her so-called plan.
Eli, Hanayo and Nozomi nodded as a one group. They’ve gone to catch up the birb.
Other group had supposed to wait reports from NozoEliPana group, yet they agreed to exaggerate their plan since they were the Baka Trio… or that was what Umi was thinking at that moment.
Even though Nico was unwilling to join Honoka’s plan at first, she did wear her camouflage smocks, classic sun glasses and covering her mouth with a mask to examine Kotori secretly. Honoka and Rin came along with her in the same clothes. Definitely not drawing any attention-type.
The result was futile in terms of what she was doing behind them. It was still helping them to guess.
According to Nozomi,
At 5:07 PM, she visited an accessory store and exited there at 5:33 PM. The time range was quite long to look for something specific.
According to Hanayo,
At 5:34 PM, she entered a bakery, not Honoka’s. Then exited with a huge box.
According to Eli,
At 6:01 PM, she entered her house looking around suspiciously as if she didn’t want anyone to know what she was doing.
According to the Baka Trio,
At 8:15 AM, Kotori seemed to learn they were watching her and she left the place quickly.
The plan went partially bad thanks to HonoNicoRin.
‘‘One card would say..’‘
Everyone turned to Nozomi, the wise mom’s side. She closed her eyes, drew a card from the deck and opened it to the table.
The reverse ‘The Hierophant’.
‘‘It means good understanding, concord, overkindness and… weakness.’’ The last word did make sense to all since Kotori has been showing vulnerability and everyone knew that she had overkindness. The definition matched with this reverse card.
Hanayo began to speak when she got up from her seat. ‘‘So, the thing she bought from accessory shop is a gift to show her kindness to someone.’’
Rin added, ‘‘The box is also…’‘
‘’and suspicous behaviors..’‘ a voice came from Nico.
Eli’s excited expression told everything, ‘‘Then it’s-’‘
‘’Boyfriend!’’ she was interrupted by the energetic leader, but it was correct.
Everyone nodded. Umi left the clubroom without saying a word. Her bag and papers filled with lyrics were left. She didn't probably think too much at that moment.
She quickly ran to the home path where Kotori was walking directly. Not long after she caught up her on the bridge, panting hardly to breathe more. She leaned down hands on her knees, she waited to pull herself together. Then, at that time Kotori could notice the hard breaths on her back side. She quickly turned her face to the source, shocked to see Umi with sports outfit, and without her bag. Her hair was a mess, face was breet red from running and sweating too much.
"U-umi-chan!" the first word was spilled out as her hand sank on her bag to find a towel to get her sweats, and other hand was going for water, but Umi was not saying anything not because of out of breaths.
She was angry.
When Kotori found both things on her bag, she quickly held over to her. Umi did nothing, standing on there like a brick wall so Kotori started helping. "Mou Umi-chan," she murmured, "What are you doing like that?" wiping her forehead, Kotori faked a smile. The voice was lacking sincerity and normality of birb, it was rather in haste.
The amber eyes didn't want to talk to another, was what Umi thought. Her hand held Kotori's tightly enough to make her question the sudden move.
"Kotori!" she has not intended to sound loud, yet her voice came out rather annoyed and heartbreak. "Kotori, why don't you tell me what is happening to you in these days? Everyone talks big as of you left the clubroom earlier. You know, everyone watched you and you still pretend it didn't happen. Would you care to explain?" She inhaled and the last words came out softly. "At least for me." She was still holding her wrist though her eyes not contacting.
"W-what do you mean, Umi-chan? I'm fine and..." her eyes accidentally met with other amber orbs, her words died down in the way of speaking. So she couldn't continue any longer.
Umi's face grew redder as she concentrated more into innocent yet sad glances.
"K-kotori... I wouldn't believe such a lie from you. I know you hide a secret from us. You know you can always, always tell me. Remember when you said you go abroad? I-I think now, I can be more dependable so you can tell me!" as Umi assured Kotori to talk about whatever blew her mind, she felt relieved. Both felt relieved.
"Umi-chan, I don't want to bother you with my family issues or something else."
‘So, it’s that.’
Umi was not surprised since she had known her friend's predictions were blunt and making no sense after all. Actually she had exactly thought the core of the problem was her family if her teaser friends didn’t put meaningless ideas into her mind. Normally she never tried to get close to someone, even to her family members, but a sudden feel of overprotection reached its peak. Their hands united into one when Umi behaved uncharacteristically to get closer, trying to make her feel she wasn’t alone.
Her face got a lot redder than a normal tomato. "I- I don't want to meddle with your family issues Kotori, but at least let me try to help you getting yourself back. Everyone worried about you."
The thin air between their faces approached to almost nothingness as Umi continued to act a brave friend of her. "I'm worried about you...’’ Her eyes looked down. ‘’I- I couldn't do anything when you were going abroad and Honoka was the one who took you back. Ever since that day, I regret doing nothing to get my friend back and this feelings were on me everytime you feel down."
That was a brief moment when tears downed on Kotori’s eye corners as she hugged her tightly. The hands on Umi’s back knitted as if Kotori has needed this for a long time. Umi reciprocated as well.
Then it was suddenly stopped. Her face got back to normal, yet they continued to hug each other.
A voice from no-one-knows-where spoke loudly to interrupt. ‘‘I KNEW IT. I KNEW THE BF THING IS UMI-CHAN!’‘
Then the sound suddenly multiplied. No one seemed to notice her crying?
‘‘Maki, you have to give me 500 yen, you LOST!’‘
‘‘Ueh? Nico-chan, this is no longer a game. You see..’‘
‘‘OH MY RICE THEY ARE SO CUTE!’‘
‘‘You’re right, Kayo-chin. Rin is happy to see such a rare expression by them.’‘
Eli and Nozomi were in the group’s back. They applauded the scenery they have seen, making a parental expression on their faces as they mouthed ‘congrats’ to them.
Kotori and Umi froze, their face got beet red and Umi fainted because of lack of water on her body or... the scandalous moment of her life.
-------
Next day, Kotori explained what she’d planned to her beloved group.
Going bakery was because she bought a huge cake to give Muse members a gift for White Day’s and walking suspicously was because she didn’t want anyone to catch her what she was doing. Going accesory shop was because she wanted to give Honoka a special friendship necklace. But nobody questioned why she didn’t say Umi’s name in the friendship phrase. Umi made a wry face without herself noticed.
Everyone was as attentive as before since Kotori didn’t finish explaining. Maki has stopped twirling her hair. Even Nico didn’t look at her PC anymore. Rin was fidgeting on her seat as if waiting a ramen to be eaten. Multiple eyes focused her way.
Kotori was playing with hem of her skirt and eyes looking down. Others could say she was shy of what she would say in time. Her face color changed when she turned her face to Umi’s side and suddenly talked in the silence of clubroom. ‘’Umi-chan, can you come over at the rooftop? I- I need to tell you something.’’
Everyone giggled as some of them were commenting on the beyond meaning of Kotori’s words. Umi avoided bright smiles and teasing from her friends then they’ve exited the clubroom, leaving the door ajar. But Umi returned to say something, '’No one’s coming or I’m not going to regret what would happen from now on.’‘ she made that one scary and half-sleepy face. Everyone squeaked in their seat and got back.
When they reached to the rooftop, Kotori fell into Umi’s arms, strong yet tender while they were covering her body softly. Her head leant into her collarbone as the tears fell down on her face suddenly. Umi tightened herself around her.
Her expression though wasn’t surprised again.
‘’They are…’’ she sniffled then continued, ‘’They are going to divorce.’’
Umi was silent, she waited her words to be finished briefly.
‘’Papa is going to move out soon and I don’t know what to feel. I… I tried not to show you, Muse. Since this time of year is our best. It’s our miraculous time! I don’t want this to perish with one sad moment, our time together is limited so I decided not to tell our group. Everything has a limited time and now, m-mama and papa are out of this time.’’
Umi didn’t find any word to say, only listened few sobbing. ‘How could someone like you has to suffer?’ she thought as she gritted her teeth, closing her eyes to leave a space to think more. ‘Such a hardwork, cheerful girl like you don’t deserve this...You need to know everyone would support you…’
Umi looked down to clearly see her reddened face. The wetness on Kotori’s face signed itself to her collar as the fragile hands were still shaky weakly. She cried a lot. Umi’s face softened as her right hand pulled her bangs aside. ‘I want to protect your smile.’
She breathed deeply, then only one word spread from her throat.
‘’…Shame…’’ Umi mumbled.
Kotori didn’t seem to hear though. ‘’Umi-chan?’’
She said louder with much more vivid than Honoka. ‘’I said it’s a shame that you didn’t tell us anything about this.’’
Kotori was surprised to see Umi’s uncontrollable burst. Her composure was broken. The birb hasn’t expected that, but she didn’t need anyone’s sympathy either. ‘’Umi..-chan…’’
Umi took her shoulders by both side, the amber orbs focused on hers. ‘’The reason why Muse was formed is because we are all friends! We can share and say anything to each other and that shouldn’t be a problem. You thinking like that, that is a shame after all, Kotori.’’
It was too direct, and never felt like Umi-ish attitude, but its effect was quite powerful and sufficient to erase Kotori’s sadness over her face. All she needed was this maybe?
Kotori was surprised, eyes no longer low-spirited. ‘’Umi-chan..’’
‘’The past doesn’t come to our hands, neither future. We need to look forward and create ourself a new one, more memorable and happier one,’’ now holding her hands to reassure the best, ‘’To be able to do that, you first need to get rid of this...’’ As she said, she wiped the remained wetness off on her face with her sleeve, then flashed a warm smile. A mature one Kotori always needed by her side.
Their face heated up a little bit more as they realised how close their proximity was.
‘’C-come on, let’s go back to the others and tell them the truth. Don’t forget that I’m…’’ she stopped for a moment, ‘’We are here for you.’’
Umi turned back to the door and suddenly being stopped by a tug of her uniform. ‘’K-Kotori?’’
The words found their place in one line. ‘’Umi-chan, thank you!’’
Umi was glad to be able to see her vivacious nature come to a life again. Her mouth was open to answer, yet never found more to finish. It was indeed enough today.
Kotori though, kissed her flushed cheek. Umi could only put her hand on the kissed cheek. Now, as shocked as bird landing on a live wire with ‘’EH?’’
The birb held the sweating hand of the archer. ‘’As a thank you,’’ she winked as she stuck out her tongue.
‘That’s unfair.’
‘’I- you- we…’’ she couldn’t get over her words as her hands consistently directing herself and Kotori and both of them. She couldn’t face her right now.
‘’You know Umi-chan..’’ she turned to her, smiling, ‘’You also shouldn’t feel guilty about you getting me back. It is in past, now.’’
Umi’s face eased as she decided to walk with her to the staircase. The ears on hers.
‘’I just remembered talking with you always make me feel right and secure. It makes me when it’s with you. I think I…’’ Kotori felt embarrassed as her words couldn’t be finished in one sentence, but Umi knew where it was going so she pushed herself one more time to face her. Today couldn’t be much more embarrassing than ever.
‘’K-kotori, you never know what you do to me.’’ Clear words were not her type, yet her personality advanced enough to across her borders today. ‘’In the tradition of Sonoda, one such as myself shouldn’t acknowledge ‘recklessness’ in their dictionary. But you make me one to contrast them. I- I don’t know when you’ve gotten such a pure smile… and a sweet voice of yours engulfing my ears everytime I would want to hear, I.. I..’’
‘’ADDED 1000 YEN ‘CUZ I’M WINNING AGAIN!’’
‘’Nico-chan, wait!’’
‘’Kayo-chin, is your nose bleeding?’’
‘’Rice Gods want us to know this, we blessed!’’
‘’I knew my Umi-chan and Kotori-chan get boyfriend to each other. They are each other’s boyfriends.. Wait.. or girlfriends!?’’
‘’Congrats. Both of you can officially start dating.’’
‘’My cards don’t tell lie, right Elichi?’’
Umi fainted was because she couldn’t handle too much teasing any longer.
‘’Umi-chan, you ok?!’’
OMAKE
‘’Nee, Kotori?’’
‘’Hmm?’’
‘’I think I’ve one problem to say something to your ear.’’
Kotori leaned in, then Umi kissed her forehead. Her confession was made according to her plan. ‘‘I- I love you.’‘
When Kotori heard the words she wanted to hear, she clung on her arm and whispered the same words to her.
They walked around as a sweet couple with the strange group behind them with Nico’s spy clothes.
Typical Sonoda ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update from New Zealand 6
Monday 9th December 2019
Jamie and I have spent the last four days in the beautiful far North. On Thursday after Jamies physio, we loaded up the car and started the long journey north. The drive wasn’t too bad but there was a surprising amount of traffic and road works that slowed down our trip. And luckily we weren’t going fast as we came across 8 different speed cameras. And neither of us want a ticket so fingers crossed! We arrived around 3pm which was a pretty good time and spent the rest of the afternoon catching up. There is always a good few hours of catching up that needs to be done when we arrive and as always it was full of laughs. Jill showed us her new pets, the geese that have been taking residence in one of their front paddocks. She used to not be bothered by them, but now there are over 50 and they just wreak the paddocks so Jill has been scaring them off her property. And it is working. Now all she has to do when they are on the paddock is go outside and yell at them, they all look up and then quickly skedaddle their way home! When Jill first told us they leave at the sound of her voice, Jamie and I weren’t quick to believe her, but after seeing it in the flesh we stand corrected and were amazed! It was such a laugh!
Friday was a glorious day. Jamie and I slept in and after breakfast, we headed out to the beach. We were expecting to be there for only a few hours as thunderstorms were forecast but actually, it was anything but. There were blue skies and sunshine. We read our books, Jamie played a bit of guitar and we soaked up the sun. A bit too much actually as we both got a lot redder than we expected! We even went for a swim, the water was warm, not even a chill as you walked in. Even Jamie decided it was too warm to not get in. So crutches and all he went in. It was too funny to see, this guy hobbling around in the ocean, crutches going in every direction. He said it was a pretty good feeling to get all the pressure off his leg for a bit so we will definitely be going swimming again soon! After a decent few hours in the sun, we headed back to the farm for the afternoon. I drew and Jamie played the guitar. For dinner, Jill made a delicious Asian pork belly and then we all played a dice game. I even participated too and we had a lot of fun!
Saturday was the fishing day! After lunch, Jack came over with the torpedo and we headed up the beach to get some fish. There had been warnings about a lot of sharks in the water which can be quite dangerous if they bite the line and the torpedo is lost to the sea. Also not so good for fish either but we still tried our luck. Our fish attempt was disappointing at best, we got one fish that was just legal. The line was super heavy though so we thought it was either sharks or a lot of fish but sadly it was just a lot of seaweed that had got stuck on the line. Our second attempt was more successful but even the work successful is a stretch! We got two more little ones and finally one decent sized snapper! With our tail between our legs, we headed back up the beach and home. After cleaning up the gear and the fish we had a delicious meal of fresh fish and chips. Honestly, you can’t beat snapper right out of the ocean. It just tastes better. Jill didn’t come with us when we went fishing as she went up to the forestry to check out some possible riding trails. They found the most amazing sand dunes in the middle of the forest, apparently, there were heaps of wild horses around too. She said it was magical and like you were riding through a desert in a faraway land, not just an hour away from home!
Sunday arrived too quickly and it was already our last day at the farm. We woke up early for the first time since we had been there, probably thanks to our early night on Saturday, the salt air really wears you out! After breakfast, we headed down to the farm to do some farm work. Moved a few fences and checked out the cows. They all were happy and clearly not too hungry as they were more interested in us than the new grass! And then before we knew it we were packing the car and hitting the road.
As always our time in the far north was way too short, every time I am there I feel like I could stay for a few weeks rather than a few days. The weather was lovely and it was so cool to be hanging around with all the animals. Grant and Jill have a new dog, called Mike, and wow he was adorable. Jamie and I both got a decent amount of cuddles from this cruisy guy.
Sunday evening we had dinner at Jo and Nicos. It was nice to arrive in Auckland and know that we only had to get to Ellerslie before stopping! We all checked out the new house, had a delicious BBQ and even s’mores. We then picked up Jasper and took him home with us. We are babysitting this week so it should be fun!
Love Kate xxxx
