— marry me?
genre ; fluff, a hint of angst, themes of marriage/proposals, percabeth! :3
Tumblr media
Come to think of it, Percy's never really thought about marriage.
Marriage. A sacred bond of love. The very thought of it— actually being able to marry— was a thought distant to him as it was to a lot of demigods. Every day could be a nightmare. You never know when your last day could be, or your last meal, or a last kiss from your lover could be— so why even bother? Why bother seeking out such things?
Percy struggled to understand it for a long time. He's seen what marriage does to people, he's seen what kind of arguments and fights and anger it brings. It's not like love was something he was distant towards, because Percy knows what love is to him. Love is warm blue cookies. Love is the feeling of fresh air on your skin, the feeling of warmth under the summer sun. Love can be fickle, but it can be sweet too. He knows what love is, and he doesn't need another definition of it.
But when Annabeth Chase comes into his life, Percy thinks he can afford to make a few changes.
He loves Annabeth. He really does. He loves waking up with her, he loves sharing meals with her, and hell, even being in the same room as her can lighten his mood. It hurts him to imagine a loving future, a future where they could be bound together forever with her, only for one of them to not being there to live it— so he won't imagine it at all.
"Have you ever thought about marriage?"
The question comes raw from Annabeth on a lazy sunday morning while they're still in bed. It's seven AM, and small, golden slivers of sun shine through the blinds of their shared room. Birds chirp from the oak trees outside their windows. It's the beginning of a beautiful day.
Percy doesn't want to lie to Ananbeth, so after a beat of hesitancy, he replies with a quiet "...No."
She turns to face him, and he realizes she looks a little relieved. "Me neither." A ghost of a smile graces her lips.
"Well, do you think you... Do you think you would ever want to marry someone?" He asks.
"Only if it's you," Annabeth confidently says with a bashful look on her face. "What about you?"
He's never even thought of it, but the answer comes naturally from his mouth. "Yes." A beat. "Only if it's you," Percy affirms breathily.
And from that day on, marriage is the only thing Percy can think about.

Rest
Being present in the moment is harder than it should be. She thinks she’s going to regret not remembering this moment to the exact detail. But there’s too much happening around her, chatter to her left, music to the right and a level of exhaustion that she isn’t feeling but knows is under the surface of every movement she’s making.
It’s fun, but it’s also a lot. Maybe because it’s been nonstop for what feels like five months but is really just three weeks. Nonstop movement, seeing family, friends, camp, and she can keep going only because she’s used to running off of nothing.
But her quest days feel like a far distant past and the pace of her life has changed in a way that she’s forgotten what it’s like to have this much going on. Is this what getting old is like?
A hand on her shoulder makes her turn. She already knows it’s him, but she takes a moment to stare. Stare at the way the firelight dances across his face adding more shadows to the dark circles under his eyes, stare at the way his lips are quirking upward and eyes that betray some of his tiredness.
“Hey.”
Annabeth isn’t the most romantic person ever, but it feels like a scene from a movie the way her entire being seems to zero on him and him alone. The background that was already fading blurs to something even more indecipherable and his voice comes to the foreground.
“Hi.”
It comes out more breathless in a way that surprises her too. His eyebrows rise up, but he pulls her closer to him. She doesn’t want to melt into the touch because she’s stronger than that, she’s done harder quests than visiting family and friends and making nonstop plans for three weeks, but she can’t help but lean in.
“Bed?” he whispers in her ear. She wonders if everyone else can read her the way he just did.
“I can stay up,” she replies, defiantly.
He chuckles and she feels it against her cheek.
“But you don’t have to.”
She doesn’t have to.
Percy is already looking at her when she looks up at him again, eyes wide with wonder because he’s right. It’s what she needed, permission to let herself rest.
“I have my moments,” he jokes even though she didn’t say anything. He stands up, grabbing her hand to help her up too. “Come on.”
She follows him as he leads her to his cabin, no one sparing them a second glance as they leave the festivities.
The quiet feels like breath of fresh air.
“Thank you,” she says as he shuts the door behind them.
He leans down to kiss her forehead. “I’m tired too.”
It’s validating to know she isn’t the only one.
“What happened to us?” she asks as she changes into her pajamas.
“Nothing,” Percy answers, moving around her to put his jeans away. “We just get a choice now.”
It’s true that on a quest there is no choice. In a matter of life or death you need to keep moving, doing what needs to be done.
But there will come a time, she thinks, composing a letter for her younger self in her mind, there will come a time where you can rest, a time where you’ll get the choice to rest.
She climbs into bed with Percy already half asleep, but he slings an arm around her waist just like he does every night, and she feels her body relax for the first time all day.
But really, she thinks right before she falls asleep, the choice has been there more times than it hasn’t, she just needs to learn how to take it.
A/N: I’ve been extremely busy lately (which is why I’ve missed a few updates) and I’ve been thinking about the concept of resting and allowing yourself to rest recently. Especially since last month felt just nonstop and I was just really exhausted by the end of it all. So that’s what inspired this fic. I’ve said this before but Semantics has always been my most personal series where I end up sharing my thoughts so I hope you guys liked it!

28 please!
28: “You weren’t supposed to hear that.” - “Well, you shouldn’t be saying it then.” send me prompts!
Percy turned the key in his and Annabeth’s apartment, surprised to find it unlocked. He would’ve gone in a little more carefully if Annabeth’s distinctive voice hadn’t been drifting in from the kitchen.
“...don’t worry about the cake, Sally’s bringing it. I just need you to get Frank and Hazel from the airport and to the restaurant before six. Percy’s shift isn’t done until then so that gives you guys plenty of time to set up.”
Annabeth was facing away from him, and for a brief second Percy considered turning around and leaving the apartment so he could pretend to re-enter much more loudly and with more warning, so it would seem like he had not heard what was very obviously a surprise birthday party plan his girlfriend was currently making for him over the phone.
His shift at the firehouse had ended early— someone had heard it was his birthday and offered to cover for him, and Percy had come home thinking he would get to take a nap in an empty apartment before his dinner plans with Annabeth had ended that night.
Before Percy could decide what to do, Annabeth was saying goodbye and hanging up the phone, and it was too late to turn around and pretend he’d just gotten back. So instead, Percy cleared his throat.
Annabeth jumped in surprise, whirling around, her eyes widening first in shock, then in horror of what he had probably heard.
“You weren’t supposed to hear that,” Annabeth said, the tips of her ears turning pink. Percy laughed. He couldn’t help but think she looked really cute when she blushed.
“Well, you shouldn’t be saying it then,” he teased. She was standing strangely, and it took him a second to realize it was because she was holding something behind her back with one hand.
“I thought you weren’t home,” Annabeth groaned, “Gods, you’re the worst. Why are you so sneaky?”
“Am I?” Percy asked, amused.
“Very. You should make way more noise for how tall you are,” Annabeth said, sighing and leaning back against the counter.
“So you’re planning a surprise party, huh?” Percy asked, grinning. Annabeth groaned again.
“You have to pretend to be surprised,” she ordered, “I’ve been mean to everyone about keeping their mouths shut for weeks, if they found out I blew it at the last minute they’ll never let me hear the end of it.”
“I’ll be very surprised. Completely shocked. Nobody will be able to tell,” Percy promised, though he was biting back a laugh.
“I’m doomed,” Annabeth said, listlessly.
“I can blame Frank instead of you,” Percy suggested, and Annabeth snorted.
“You know, that might actually work.”
“If my performance isn’t convincing enough I’ll give it a shot.”
“Good thing I’m a better actor than you,” Annabeth said.
“I resent that,” Percy said cheerfully. “What are you hiding behind your back?”
“You think I’m going to spoil your surprise birthday party and your birthday present?” Annabeth asked, one eyebrow raised, “You’re going to have to try harder than that.”
“Worth a shot,” Percy said, leaning down and kissing her softly. As he did, he inched his hand around her back, trying to grab at whatever she was holding, but she’d been expecting it and quickly switched to the other hand.
“Better. I appreciate the effort,” Annabeth said, giving him one last peck before pushing him away. “Now close your eyes so I can go hide this in my purse.”
“You’re no fun,” Percy complained, closing his eyes all the same.
“You’re the one who ruined my surprise!” Annabeth called.
“No, that was Frank, remember?” Percy called back, and Annabeth laughed.
“If you can manage to say that without sounding like you’re winking at me we might actually get away with this.”
Her voice was closer, close enough that Percy felt safe opening his eyes again. She was back to standing in front of him, hands empty.
“I’ll work on it,” Percy promised. “And I’m sorry for spoiling your surprise.”
Annabeth rolled her eyes, but she was smiling.
“It’s your surprise. I’m sorry I wasn’t more careful.”
“Well, thank you for planning it for me,” Percy said, “I’m sure you put a lot of work into it, and it’ll be perfect and fun regardless of if it’s a surprise or not.”
Annabeth smiled, but it was a little less soft than he’d expected and a bit more mischievous.
“Good thing the party wasn’t the only surprise.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Percy asked, knowing there was absolutely no way Annabeth was going to give him so much as a crumb of a clue as to what she meant. Sure enough, she just grinned.
“You’ll see.”

whenever anyone asks someone their favorite percabeth moment from the pjo series everyone’s always like “oh the underwater kiss for sure. it was so cute. idk how anyone could think otherwise!” and don’t get me wrong, it’s cute and i do love it , but if you ask me, i know that’s not gonna be my answer. i’m gonna say “definitely in the sea of monsters when annabeth hears the sirens and percy comforts her.” i mean, is nobody gonna talk about how genuinely sweet but heartbreaking that was? annabeth listens to the sirens and sees herself with a happy family and luke who never turned evil. that was all she wanted. and keep in mind, they’ve only known each other for about a year. so when percy goes up and just holds her while she cries??? so yes, that is my favorite moment in the whole dang series, not just between them.

let me be the one you want
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: luke castellan x gn!reader
summary: luke can't understand why you'd want to be with percy, when you could be with him instead
Tumblr media
"what do you even see in that guy?"
luke huffed and rolled his eyes, as you continued to watch percy from afar, as he laughed and talked with annabeth.
"i don't think you'd get it, luke"
you knew that luke wasn't the biggest fan of percy, even when he tried to be nice to him. of course luke wouldn't see what made percy so special to you.
"yeah, you're right. i don't get it" luke said. "i don't get why you're hung up on a guy that likes another girl. especially when you could've had me instead!"
for the first time since luke started talking, you turned around to face him. finally, your eyes were on him, instead of percy. even if it was just for a moment.
"you know… i could be the one you want. i could make you forget all about percy, if you'd let me"
luke stepped closer, a smug smile on his lips.
"are you going to let me?"

we don't talk enough about how annabeth treasures things that are permanent. she doesn't like change.she'd spent her whole life building "fixed" walls between her mortal family, her mum, and even percy at first. it took her so long to realise that percy was permanent, they were going to stay together forever, and just as she was slowly taking down her walls around him and others, he suddenly leaves without a word.
bc all she'd known was everyone leaving her, especially people she was just getting to know properly / she already loved them. her dad. thalia. luke, zoe, bianca, silena, beckendorf, jason... the list goes on and on.
i really want to talk more about annabeth's trauma. i want to see annabeth crying with sally because percy’s been gone without a single word. i want annabeth to help sally with the dishes and realise that she isn't the only one hurting, she shouldn't be so selfish and think that she was the only one heartbroken. i want to see them both talking about funny things percy did, even though they were both on the verge of tears. i want her to think that percy's going to appear out of nowhere, just like in bolt, but deep inside she knows he isn't isn't isn't. i want to see her asking everyone and everything about percy, hearing no no no every time. i want to see her (despite everything) pray to the gods, hoping percy's safe. i want to see her not concentrating at chb and talking in a broken voice at skl. i want to see her coming to sally's house every week and breaking down down down, even though percy would want her to be strong.
i will add more to this. someone add more to this.

Piper's POV
"Hey! Percy!"
The man in question turned to greet me with a smile and a wave as I crossed Camp to reach him where he stood on the docks of the lake. I waved back as he called out to me.
"Hey Piper! What's up?"
"Have you seen either of our girlfriends?" I asked, finally coming to a stop in front of him with both hands on my hips. "I've hardly seen mine in days."
Percy shook his head, a fond grin pulling at his mouth all the same.
"No, Annabeth's been holed up in her cabin working on some crazy architecture-engineering project. I was actually planning to check on her today, make sure she's remembering to sleep and eat and drink water. Your girlfriend's probably right there with her, if you want to join me."
"Yes," I decided without hesitation. "Yes I do."
****************
Y/N's POV
"Okay, what if we changed the building material all together?" I asked, slumped all the way over the table in the middle of the Athena cabin, one hand absent-mindedly tugging at my hair. Annabeth and I had been tearing our hair out trying to perfect a joint engineering-architecture project, and without sleeping or leaving our cabin for a few days, we were both starting to go a little crazy.
"We could... but wouldn't that affect some of our design elements here, since it won't hold weight and interact with other materials in the same way?"
"Ugh, you're right. So, do we change the design to fit the existing material, or do we change the design to try to accommodate a new material? Which one do we think will give us less of a headache in the long run?"
Annabeth hummed, staring at the blueprints and the 3D mockup we'd made on Daedalus' laptop for so long that I thought she might've fallen asleep with her eyes open. Finally though, she took a deep breath in and moved forward, turning the design and pointing at it with her face so close to the screen the blue glow completely lit her up, even with a few low lights on in our cabin.
"What about this space right here? Could we fit in some extra supports or something like that with minimal design changes?"
I leaned forward, getting my face right next to Annabeth's to look at whatever she was seeing. At the same time, I heard the door to our cabin slam open behind us, sunlight flooding the dim room. I hissed, throwing my hands up and turning to glare at whoever had just interrupted our work session so rudely, only to find my girlfriend standing in the doorway with her hands on her hips, Percy Jackson right behind her.
"Did you literally just hiss?" she demanded. I just narrowed my eyes at her.
"What are the two of you doing?" I whined. "And can you shut the door please? The glare's gonna make it hard to see the details we need to on the screen."
Piper and Percy shared a look that I didn't love, then both crossed the room to Annabeth and I, leaving the door wide open behind them. To my left, I saw Annabeth glaring daggers at Percy, but my attention quickly shifted to Piper as she came to a stop right in front of me, hands still on her hips.
"You've been sitting in this cave working in the dark nonstop for days," she said. "You need to take a break and go outside, you fucking vampire."
"No, Pipe, I need to finish this project. Seriously, we're so close-"
"We're not close," Annabeth deadpanned from beside me. I whipped around to look at her, mouth open and eyes wide from betrayal, but she just looked back at me with a blank, exhausted face. Vaguely, in the back of my mind, I wondered if I had the same raccoon dark circles under my eyes as she did. If so, it would explain why Piper was acting so urgent.
Annabeth just shrugged in response to my glare. Percy had his arms around her shoulders, and I could see her giving in to his persuasion inch by inch.
"We're not close. We found a major flaw that's going to take a lot of work to fix," she said with a tired sigh. "It might not hurt to take a short break. Who knows, maybe inspiration will strike once we finally focus on something else for a change."
I gave a long, dramatic, drawn-out sigh, then flopped my head back to look at my girlfriend. Her arms were still crossed, and I could tell that she was not going to give up before she drug me out of this cabin.
"Fine. What, exactly, did you have in mind for a break then, Pipe?"
She grinned and held out her hand. "Come on and let me show you."
With a tiny little bit more whining and complaining from me, I let Piper lead me out of the Athena cabin and into the sunlight. Percy found similar success, and he and Annabeth headed towards the lake while Piper and I peeled off towards the forest.
"Don't tell me your idea of a break is taking me into the woods to fight monsters," I teased, still holding Piper's hand as I trailed behind her through the cabins. She glanced back to shoot me the stink eye.
"Of course not, don't be ridiculous."
Part of me had been expecting more information, but I should've known Piper would keep making me wait. None of her surprises had ever failed before though, so I didn't mind too much.
A few minutes later, just beyond the first few lines of trees, we came to a small clearing with a picnic laid out, right on the edge of the creek. This close to Camp, we were unlikely to run into monsters, which made this the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon with my girlfriend.
"You are... incredible," I said, a little dazed as Piper and I settled onto the blanket together. She grinned.
"I know. But I'm always happy to hear it. So do you want to tell me about that project you're working on?"
I eyed her suspiciously as I took out a sandwich, not sure if she meant it or wanted to test if I'd really let the work go for the afternoon break. Piper caught the look and rolled her eyes with a sigh.
"It just seems like an important project that I haven't heard a lot about yet. You don't have to talk about it now, but if you want to tell me, I'd love to hear about it."
I grinned, biting into the sandwich as I leaned back against Piper. She put her free arm around me without hesitation, and with every second I spent close to her like this the stress of the project melted farther away.
"I love you, Pipe. But I'll respect your break bubble for now. Let's talk about what you've been up to while I've been holed up with Annabeth."
"Are you sure?"
I nodded. "Totally sure. Maybe later I can talk about it a little, but right now, as the focus and adrenaline are wearing off... I think my brain might be a little too fried to think about it anymore."
Piper laughed, then pulled me in a little closer to her.
"Well, let's see if we can do anything about that, then. Um... Rachel convinced me to help her with some painting yesterday."
"Ooo, really? What did you paint? Can I see it?"
"Sure. It can be the next stop on our break tour after the picnic."
I smiled, not even bothered by the new activity that would take me away from work a little longer. My project with Annabeth was important, and I loved the work we were doing, but I also loved my girlfriend. Every single moment that I could spend with her I wanted to take, and I truly couldn't imagine any better place to be. Thank all the gods and Fates that I had her in my life.

Percy can't believe it.
"Im sorry- you lost what?"
"I swear to god that it was just here last night- and I'm sure I didn't move it anywhere- fuck- and I'm tearing the house apart just looking for it!"
"Okay, slow down," Grover says into the iris call, "What are you looking for?"
Percy looks down in shame, eyebrows knitting together and lips tugging downwards into a deep frown. His voice comes out ashamed, dissapointed.
"Annabeth's... uh. Engagement ring."
"Annabeth's enga- Percy, you had one job!"
From outside the car, Percy just seems to be a little distressed- nervous, even. He doesn't look like he's going to propose in less than an hour (hopefully, if everything goes right, which it's definitely not) or that he lost the engagement ring that belongs on the hand of the love of his life- Annabeth's hand.
And it's been a long day. Annabeth seems to think this is a little birthday celebration for him, thinks that they'll spend the rest of the late afternoon watching the sunset and enjoying the cool evening together eating cupcakes. Its far from a regular birthday celebration; because it's (technically) their anniversary too.
"I KNOW!" Percy screams back, close to tears, "I know, I was doing my best to be the most careful I possibly could, but it's not here anymore- it should be in my pocket!"
"Where was the last place you put it?"
"...Where It put it?" He says like he's walking on eggshells, "Look, i've been careful with it all night, 'Kay? It just... dissapeared!"
"I don't think engagement rings can do that," Grover sighs.
"Have you looked all over the car?"
"Mhm!"
"On the floors, in the seats? Under the seats?"
"Yeah!"
"On the dashboard?"
"Yes, I-" Percy reaches forward, deep, running his hands against the large expanse of the—leather dashboard expecting nothing but air until his fingers brush against what feels like a velvet box.
The silence tells all to Grover, a hand coming up to slap himself in the face. "Oh my god."
"I'm an idiot," He falls back into his seat, instantly holding the tiny box against his chest, "Such an idiot."
"No, you're not, just way too nervous." Grover heaves a huge sigh of relief from his side of the call, "Just try to propose with making a fool out of yourself, okay?"
"Thanks, G-man. What would I do with you, huh?"
"Uh-huh. Good luck."
"Thanks. I'll need it."
Less than four seconds later, Percy is out of the car (Engagement ring in tow for once) and on his way sprinting to the canoe lake of camp half blood.
"Wisegirl!" Percy calls out to her figure, legs dangling off the dock. Annabeth's switched out her signature chb shirt for a nice, floral sundress that compliments her golden curls and bright smile. He's so nervous.
Can he really do this?
"Percy!" She beams, "Did you find your extra underwear?"
He cringes at his rushed excuse. "U-uh, totally!" An awkward cough, "Yeah."
"Great." She pats the space next to her. "Sit. The views beautiful."
Sitting down with a little 'oof', Percy smiles. "Yeah," He agrees, but he's not really looking at the lake.
The canoe lake, usually filled with campers, is empty— save for a few ducks enjoying the cool waters. The setting sun strikes the sky with soft, warm colours, golden hour only making Annabeth more beautiful.
"Are you enjoying your birthday?"
"O-of course. Always, when i'm with you."
She playfully nudges him. "So cheesy." Annabeth giggles.
Percy wants to take this slow— wants to be sweet, soft, sincere. He wants to be a gentleman and treat her because she deserves it— god, Annabeth deserves it— but his palms are sweating and his mind is racing and his mouth is opening—
"I love you."
Annabeth looks at him weirdly, chuckling. "And I love you too."
"You know that I love you more than ever?"
"More than ever." She affirms.
"I-I want you to know that, because I always will. And I want this moment to be perfect, because I love you so much, but today has been a very slow, very bad day—" He's reaching into his pocket, that troublesome velvet box in hand, "But as long as you're here, I know all the other days won't be that way."
Annabeth's eyes are with tears shining now, and Percy knows his eyes are too.
"I want to grow old with you. I want to love you as long as I possibly can, and I can't imagine a world without you here, Wisegirl. Annabeth Chase, will you spend every day together, with me, and marry me?"
"G-god- of course I will, yes!" Annabeth pulls him close, hugging him, tears streaming down her face, "Yes, yes, yes!"
Percy's heart is beating a mile per minute as he slides the ring on her finger, wisegirl— his wisegirl— blabbering how much she loves him and how she can't wait to wake up to him every day.
"D-don't cry, please, don't cry," Percy says, but he's crying just as much. "I love you. More than you'll ever know."
It takes a while to calm down the both of them, because they're both busy peppering kisses on the others face. It's astounding on how genuinely happy they are— years of suffering, years of wondering if every day was their last has led up to this moment.
There are few things certain in life for Percy, but he knows two things for sure: He loves Annabeth Chase beyond words, and that he wants to spend every day by her side.

BABY, JUST SAY YES
a percabeth fanfiction
“are you planning to marry her?” sally asked bluntly. “you’ve said things like ‘when we’re married’ before, but you and i haven't ever talked about it. i haven't heard the two of you talking about it, and she hasn't said anything to me, either. and you know i hear about your relationship from her before i hear it from you, so although this doesn't mean you haven't talked about it, it doesn't fill me with confidence that you have.” percy blinked. “of course I want to marry her. mom, I’ve wanted to marry her for almost ten years now.” “have you talked to her about it?” or: percy talks to annabeth about getting married

Headcannon:
Percy started calling Annabeth his wife long before they ever got married. It started at some point in New Rome, they’d been living together for a few months in college, and some girl at a party had been getting a little too closer for Percys comfort. She’d asked him something along the lines of “what are you doing later tonight?” to which he replied “going home with my wife.” At first, Percy had shocked himself with his own words, but it only took a few seconds of thinking for him to relish in the idea. He’d known he was going to marry Annabeth for a while, but calling her his wife out loud made him feel some type of way. Annabeth of course found out, but she only scolded Percy once, because secretly she loved the label. After that, he just started referring to Annabeth as “my wife” to other people, and it gave him a feeling of euphoria which he knew would be nothing compared to the day when she would really be his bride.
