The spate of farmers' suicides has continued unabated in Maharashtra with as many as 2,366 farmers committing suicide in the state in 10 months between January and October this year. The proportion comes to nearly 240 farmers in the state ending their lives every month and seven famers every day. The highest number of farmers' suicides has been reported in the Vidarbha region with 951 farmers ending their lives in the Amravati revenue division and 257 in Nagpur division.

A Cat Experience

Visiting Nagpur to stay with my Maasi was always a delightful break from the routine. On one sunny afternoon, I stumbled upon an unexpected and heartwarming experience that would stay with me forever.

My Maasi's neighbor had a cat, and when I heard about it, I couldn't resist the temptation to meet the feline friend. With eager anticipation, I made my way to their house. As I entered, I was greeted by the warm presence of an elderly couple who seemed to have a story of a lifetime etched into their faces.

I introduced myself to the kind lady of the house and informed her that I had come from my Maasi's place to see their cat. She smiled warmly and revealed that the cat's name was Sheera. Sheera , it appeared, was a free spirit who roamed the streets at will, returning to their loving home whenever she pleased.

In her sweet, melodic voice, the lady called out to her husband in Marathi, saying, "Navra ikade sheera kuthe ahe," which translates to "Husband, where is Sheera?" Her tone was sweeter than the sweetest sugar in the world as she beckoned her beloved.

Her husband, with a smile that held years of shared memories and love, responded that Maithini had wandered off somewhere. I couldn't help but be touched by the love and respect that radiated between the elderly couple. Their wrinkled faces seemed to light up with joy when their eyes met, a testament to the bond they had nurtured over the years.

As we continued our conversation, our attention was suddenly drawn to a small, brown and black cat. It came running towards the lady, mewing at her feet in the most endearing manner. The sight was heartwarming, for it was evident that Sheera was not just comfortable but also supremely happy in her arms.

In that moment, I realized that love knows no boundaries, and it can be found in the most unexpected places. The love shared between that elderly couple and their beloved Sheera was a reminder of the beauty that can be found in simple, everyday moments. It was an experience that left a profound impact on me, a testament to the enduring power of love and companionship.
