Brazilian peculiar fauna
As promised, my peculiar Brazilian fauna! I will explain what each animal is
Tumblr media
1 .Two-headed jaguar
Exactly similar to two-headed lynxes, these large cats inhabit forests and are aggressive. They are large animals and need help to survive as both heads need to eat equally for the animal to survive.
Tumblr media
2. Demon Piranhas
They are a dangerous and peculiar species of piranha, they have larger than normal teeth and horns, they are larger than common piranhas and they even devour alligators, it is an extremely dangerous animal.
3. Hummingbird with two tongues
This animal has a beak that opens much wider than that of a common hummingbird, it has two tongues that help it when eating. They eat much faster than a common hummingbird. These birds are naturally extremely fast and are peaceful.
Tumblr media
4. Pink dolphin - Holadeira
Photographed in 1995 by Jeremy Wade, this species of Amazonian dolphin is extremely rare to find. It has notches on its back that are very characteristic. Unlike normal pink dolphins, this animal is aggressive just like a piranha, it is recommended to stay very far away from this animal
5. Fire maned wolf
This large animal is peaceful, extremely cautious and does not pose any immediate danger. However, if cornered or in a situation of danger or a lot of stress, this animal's body will catch fire. Fire does not hurt it, it is used solely as defense, unfortunately this animal is often responsible for Forest fire
Tumblr media
6. Harpybara
This animal is a mix of a harpy and a capybara, harpybaras have the wings and tail of harpies and the body of a friendly and cute capybara, it is a peaceful and omnivorous animal. She swims very well, is terrestrial, and flies long distances, but prefers to stay on the ground and lie down under the shade of trees. They are the preferred animals as pets for ymbrynes, as they are completely harmless to children and are good companions.
Tumblr media
7. Peculiar Coral Snakes
Coral snakes are already naturally dangerous with their deadly venom, now imagine a coral snake that can swallow anything regardless of size. This is the peculiar ability of these snakes. In addition to the naturally dangerous venom, these snakes are born with a jaw that stretches infinitely and an elastic body. They can eat things infinitely bigger than themselves and go years without needing to eat again. Obviously they are extremely dangerous.
8. Indestructible armadillo
Of normal size to that of any common armadillo, the indestructible armadillo has the peculiarity of its impenetrable body, its shell is proof of everything, it cannot be broken, shot or burned. It's indestructible.
Tumblr media
Soon you met the ymbryne who rescues and shelters all these animals, Miss Tainá Urutau.

Continuing the bedtime story saga from my previous reblogs, inspired by @asukiess post and @buggachat fanart.
Introducing
🐉Aunty Kagami🐉 fulfilling her babysitting duty at the bedtime storytelling post in the Dupen-Cheng's household.
***
Kagami: ...Thus, in dire need to escape from the cannibalistic witch and, preferably, see another day, the siblings have tricked and pushed her into the cauldron with boiling hot water, effectively eliminating the subject of threat, as well as the evidences of murder. And the children lived in that gingerbread house happy ever after.
5-years old Emma: oh, ugh... Ok. And what's the *brows furrowed in concentration* coral lesson of the story?
Kagami: Moral lesson. Always think three or four steps ahead. And working in team is very important.
Emma: ...Ok.
Emma: Off topic, you and uncle Felix remind me of that movie on DisneyPlus-
Kagami: What-
Emma: oh yeah! A girl grew up isolated in the tower with an evil mother. Then a state-wanted criminal found her, kidnapped her, they fell in love and went on to live happy ever after. Oh oh she had short hair! And she liked boinking her love with a frying pan (lovingly), too!
Kagami: ...
Emma: ... 🥰
Kagami: ...Ok. Just add a gallon or two of parental mistreatment, the fact that your father and us were conceived magically and our newfound daily duty to fight monsters in that spiel and it'll be basically the tale of our existence.
Emma: What?
Kagami: What?
---------------------------------------
Additionally (cause why not?)
Marinette: Hugo, honey, did you have a good dream last night?
3 years-old Hugo: Yep! I defeated that cannibal witch!
Marinette, mildly concerned: You.. what?
Hugo, excitedly: And-and put her head on the spike to... ugh.. to scare my enemies away and stuff!
Marinette, softly: YOU DID WHAT-

CHILD OF THE SKY 😭😭😭😭 when i first first loaded up the game, a very incredibly sweet stranger guided me through the whole game. No chat, just our unique chimes and some hand holding and their kindness that lives in my heart!! I'm so glad you're having an amazing time!!!
Yeh yeh!!!
What's really cute is that I kept finding people who just spent their time guiding people. Around the end region, we (me and the stranger - we held hands together through the better part of the game) had someone (which became someones as more people joined) guide us through, and heal us. Then celebrated as we reached the end of the region, and headed to the final stop! So sweet of them.
When I came back to an earlier part of the game, I saw a lot of people guiding the newer players (including me lol) to the children of the light, and various other knickknacks.
This is such a sweet game. I'm having an absolutely stellar time!

I am gripping you by the shoulders and begging you to listen when I tell you teens want to be outside so bad. We want to be outside so fucking bad you have no idea
#ramblings of a lunatic#WE DON'T LIKE STAYING INDOORS ON SCREENS ALL DAY EVERYDAY ITS NOT FUN IT DOESN'T FEEL GOOD#yes there are exceptions and yes we like to do it more than previous generations but by god if it doesn't take a toll on your mental health#AND WE KNOW THIS BTW. WE'RE COMPLETELY FUCKING AWARE OF THIS FACY#*fact#but it's like. there's such a lack of options sometimes#like for example- i live in a pretty small town. walkable but not without some effort#there's no shopping centre (mall for americans) and maybe 3 parks (one of which is up a hill on the far side of town)#there are community centers but they're underfunded and don't cater to teens- especially not as casual hangout spaces#so like. unless you corall all your friends into one persons house (me and my friends generally go out in a group of 8-10 ppl-#-so while going to one persons house is doable it's not the most convenient and again this a small town. lots of the houses are small too)#or are willing to hangout at a park (a place where there's generally going to be young children and their parents-#-which isn't a deal-breaker by any means but can make kids feel like intrusions or even be perceived as sketchy)#(this is generally what me and my friends have to come to terms with everytime we hangout since we usually do it in the park)#then like. where the hell do you go?? yknow??????#also plenty of my friends live in rural areas where it's a 20 or 30 minute drive into town and only one of us has his license#all this to say#I'd really love to see some statistics on what the hangout habits of kids from different living areas is like#because i have a feeling that kids who grow up in big relatively walkable cities with public transit and nice hangout spots#are getting out of the house a lot more often than a bunch of lower and middle class teens scattered across rural country spaces-#-and a town with little to no space for them to just exist without doing some kind of activity to justify their presence#this isn't even touching on helicopter parenting that prevents kids from being independent#anyway yeah i wish i was not on my phone so much i enjoy life better when I'm not on it but. god does not love me so <3

Anakin Skywalker did nothing wrong I think. Mass murder is fine as long as I knew you when you were nine. He's evil but the kind of evil who did nothing wrong. He's just a baby pretty much.

Michael has his own names for his children. He's extremely stubborn and hates not being in control of a situation so having no say in what to name his own offspring is a big sore point for him.
For Corey, he calls him Michael Jr. He doesn't recognize Corey as his son's actual name and at most sees it as an odd nickname. But when he's communicating with him, he always calls him Michael Junior, much to Corey's annoyance.
Michael had wanted to call Steven "James" after his son's mother, Jamie. He regrets every day what happened to her and the echo ge feels of guilt thrums at knowing he's responsible for his son never knowing his mother.
Steven tolerates Michael calling him 'Jimmy' a lot more than Corey tolerates being called Junior because he knows it comes from a place of regret.
Michaela is the only child that Michael approves of her name. Even more so knowing that Michaela's mother, the only woman who grew to love him, named his daughter after him. She's Daddy's girl through and through and Michael will sometimes call her 'Angel' as a pet name for her. Or 'Princess ' because she's his pride and joy.

did a quick resketch of the done with this world patrick on my concept cover to give him a smile because hes genuinely a pretty good natured dude (but after the last like three episodes of s2 i think he deserves to be a little pissed off lmao).
to patrick i bequeth my numerous tiny scars received for very stupid reasons. except in his case most of them are sibling related. under his longer hair fringe is a bigger scar from when reuben slammed a door on him when they were younger and by when they were younger i mean like 6 months ago.

SO, I made my own tragic legendary sea cookie since that seems to be the theme for devsis in between comms-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beneath the dark, forgotten waves of the west sea, amongst a once bustling and colorful coral forest is it's sleepy monarch; Grand Reef Cookie. A jolly, yet strangely complaisant individual who spends his frail, doddering years tending to the decaying remains of his children's once proud homeland.
They have all left, of course. Some more hesitant than others to leave their loving father's side. But, Grand Reef Cookie was insistent of their retreat. That, unlike him, they were not bound to their namesake in soul and body. That the ocean held much more plentiful and vibrant sights that were not to be wasted fretting over a forgotten relic of the past. That doesn't stop many from visiting though... Bringing with them trinkets and offerings to help alleviate his wistful loneliness.
But, unlike some of his children, Grand Reef doesn't harbor any resentment for cookies. It's just not in his nature to harbor any hatred for... Well, anything, really. A reef is meant to be a nurturing and peaceful place for even the most ruthless apex predator, to be unwelcoming and unkind to even one creature would go against his very nature. ________
Why be a betrayed and/or volatile tragic, when you can be a sweet, hospice patient kind of tragic? That, and sea pollution and global warming tragic, I mean it's right there-

Secret Cove (Part 1)
Neteyam X Metkayina (oldest daughter of Tonowari, the chief)
Takes place before the last battle in AWOW
Neteyam is 18
Contains: alcohol and angst
Tumblr media
“Let him go, Neteyam,” I say as Neteyam calls after his brother, angry lines creasing his forehead. Lo’ak’s retreating back glistens as he dives in the water. My little sister, Tsireya, dives in after him, a playful smile on her lips.
“Argh!” Neteyam growls. He whips around in annoyance and leans over the edge of the Mauri pod. He makes a clicking sound, calling for an ilu. He’s been so stressed lately; we both have. It’s hard being the oldest ones in our families.
But I’m tired of it. My eyes harden before I reach out and grab his arm. “Neteyam, please.”
An ilu swims to the surface clicking happily as Neteyam stiffens. The warmth of his bicep seeps into my hand. I rub his arm softly, trying to calm him.
“Lo’ak can’t get in trouble again. My dad—” he sighs, “He is my responsibility. If something happens to him…”
I pull my hand back. Neteyam’s shoulders are tense. His eyes dart across the water nervously as he unconsciously picks at his fingers. He needs to relax. A smirk grows across my lips. I know just what to do tonight.
“Come on.” I grab his hand before he has a chance to protest.
I yank him to his feet. He stumbles forward slightly, surprise flashing in his eyes. I grin at him before taking off through the village with his hand in mine. We’ve never held hands before. While we’ve grown close during his time here, we mostly just follow the rules. I’ve taught him how to hold his breath and to fish. Sometimes I’d catch him staring at me. Or other times, I’d hear him telling Lo’ak to stop teasing him about me. We often shared glimpses of annoyance, when our younger siblings did things they shouldn’t. We shared the same kind of burden. Understanding passes easily between us. Understanding and the shimmers of something else.
Now, it’s nearly eclipse and Neteyam’s hand is warm in mine. People are returning to their homes. I run quickly between different pods, the wooden floor bouncing beneath my feet. I duck under a woman carrying a tray of fish and spears.
“Woah!” Neteyam cries behind me as he ducks just before the sharp head of the spear can cut him.
“Children!” The woman scolds.
I laugh as I continue down the village, heading for the beach. I don’t need to turn around to know that Neteyam is shaking his head. I don’t need to turn around to know that he’s also wearing a small smile. He grips my hand tighter.
It’s dark when we step onto the beach. The ocean creatures glow beneath the smooth waves and the palm trees blow in the sweet breeze. I close my eyes and inhale the scent of my home. I refuse to feel trapped, not to tonight. Neyetam shakes his hand that’s intertwined with mine.
“What are we doin’?” He asks playfully.
I open my eyes. He’s watching me. His eyes are bright with interest but there is something hesitant in the set off his mouth. Like he wants to let go but is too afraid. Time for him to learn, time for us both to. I let go of his hand. Hurt flashes in his eyes but he conceals it quickly. He begins to stiffen like a soldier returning to his post.
“Follow me and find out.” I wink at him before sprinting down the beach. Neteyam’s mouth falls open as he looks around incredulously.
“Try and keep up, treehugger,” I yell behind me. I run right down to the surf and dive into the small waves. The ocean envelopes me. It’s warm against my skin as I swim away from the village.
Neteyam dives in behind me, his entrance making small ripples along the surface. I pause after a few moments of swimming to make sure he hasn’t fallen behind— but he isn’t there. I freeze. My heart begins to pound. This was a bad idea. I swim back to where we dove in, paddling frantically.
I look all around me but there is nothing but fish and coral. I shouldn’t have done this, what was I thinking? I start to swim up to the surface, ready to call for help, when something grabs my ankle. I scream, letting out a bubble of air. Neteyam grins up at me from the darkness of the water. I kick at him causing him to laugh before releasing me. Relief floods through me as I swim up to the surface, followed by Neteyam. The second I hit the surface, I’m no longer relieved; just irritated.
“You skxawng!” I splash him. His face glows beneath the dark sky as he smiles at me.
“I’m sorry.”
“I don’t believe you,” I hiss and splash him again. I splash with all my might, sending water right into his nose and mouth.
“Okay, okay!” He says between bouts of ocean water hitting his face. He reaches out and grabs my waist. I stop splashing the second his long fingers sprawl across my skin. I don’t fight against him, I don’t move at all as he pulls me closer to him. My heart begins to pound. Our faces are nearly touching. He leans in, I begin to close my eyes when I realize he’s leaning towards my ear.
“Where are you taking me?” His hot breath hits the side of my neck.
A shudder runs through my body, I try to conceal it to no avail. He sees right through me. A smirk grows on his lips. I shove him, snapping back to my senses.
“It’s a surprise, forest boy.” I dive back beneath water and swim quickly toward the underwater cove. The cove belongs to my mother, or at least it’s her that found it. We occasionally have family meetings there, when we want to discuss things that we don’t want others to hear. But mostly, my parents and their peers use it when they want to do things and don’t want the children to see.
From the outside, the cove is just a large circular rock, tucked between colorful coral reefs. I swim towards it, dive deeper, and swim up under the rock. Blackness covers my vision for a moment before I break the surface. The water is still and warm inside the cove. A soft glow comes from the ceiling and spreads throughout the enclosure,  like a starry sky.
Neteyam pops up beside me, gasping for a breath. He looks around quickly as though to survey where his new surroundings are and if there’s any danger. I raise an eyebrow at his apprehensive face.
“It’s just us here, warrior.”
He gives me a look before observing his surroundings more peacefully. His mouth opens slightly in awe as his cute eyes grow wide. “What is this place?”
“It’s my parents underwater cove,” I reply and begin to swim towards the small rocks that run along the small enclosure. “More like their hideout.”
“Hideout?” Neteyam questions as he paddles after me.
I pull myself out of the water and squeeze my hair, causing water droplets to drip down. I can feel Neteyam’s eyes on me. His gaze burns into my back as heat creeps onto my cheeks.
He jumps out of the water and settles down on a nearby rock. “Why would your parents need a hideout?”
I turn around to find him staring at me. His playful demeanor from earlier is fading. His flushed face is turning from lighthearted to nervous. “Look, I can’t get in trouble,” he says. He starts to get up as though he’s going to leave. I quickly walk over and push him back onto the rock.
He looks at me with raised eyebrows. “I’m serious—”
“No, I’m serious,” I interrupt. “You need to relax. You don’t have to be perfect all the time. We don’t have to be.”
“Tell that to our parents,” he mumbles under his breath.
I slip my hand under his chin and force his eyes to meet mine. I’ve never done anything like this before. My hand trembles slightly against his smooth skin. He blinks slowly, his gaze steady as he watches my face. “So,” he begins softly. “How am I supposed to relax?”
“I thought you’d never ask,” I whisper back. I pull away from him and turn towards the wall of the cove. It’s damp and cool as I place my hand on it. I push in harshly three times until a little compartment shoots out of the wall. I turn towards Neteyam with a smirk. He cocks his head to the side.
I wrap my fingers around a wooden bottle and lift it up. “Drink, anyone?”
Neteyam’s eyes nearly bulge out of his head. “No, I can’t.”
I ignore his protest and walk calmly over to him. I sit beside him, the wet rock rubs my thighs. I lift the bottle to my lips and take a long sip. The alcohol burns as it goes down my throat. It’s a Metkayinan drink, made for adults, and special occasions. I’ve only ever had sips before, from my mother at celebrations or by Aonoug sneaking some for us. But tonight, I feel like breaking free. I’m going to make tonight a celebration in itself.
Neteyam watches me carefully as he chews absentmindedly on his lip. “What’s gotten into you?”
“Aren’t you tired of it?”
He doesn’t respond so I continue on. “Aren’t you tired of watching Lo’ak have all the fun while you clean up his messes?”
I take another sip of the bottle, taking my time, letting it sear against my throat and warm my stomach. “I know I’m tired of being the oldest, the most responsible.”
Neteyam reaches out and yanks the bottle from my grasp. He shoves it to his lips and swallows. He pulls it away and coughs before drinking more. I raise an eyebrow. Alcohol drips down his chin and onto his muscular chest. Damn, he’s hot.
He stops drinking, the bottle shaking slightly in his hand. He blinks a few times and looks at me. “Yea. I’m fucking tired of it.”
“Pass the bottle then.”
He obliges and I take another drink. We continue like this for a while, passing the drink between us, letting the alcohol drown out our thoughts. We don’t speak but it isn’t awkward, there’s a sort of peace between us as we listen to the sounds of the ocean, feeling completely isolated in our own little world.
I’m starting to feel a little dizzy. Warmth spreads through my entire body, and I can’t stop smiling, especially when I look at Neteyam. I think he feels the same way because he is swaying slightly and giggles each time I catch him staring at me.
“What are you laughing at?” I ask after he laughed another time.
He smiles, a small, sweet smile. “I’m,” he begins before looking up at the glowing roof. “It’s so beautiful here.” He looks down at his hands before meeting my eyes. “And I’m here with you.”
“And that’s funny?”
“No. It’s, I just, I didn’t expect this,” he stutters.
My stomach churns nervously. “Are you okay with being here?”
Alarm flares in his tipsy eyes. “Yes!” He scrambles off his rock and slides onto mine. The warmth of his body spreads through mine as our legs touch. He looks down at me, his face inches from mine. I turn my head, suddenly too nervous to meet his gaze. “I really like being around you,” he says, the smell of alcohol drifting off his breath.
“You’re drunk,” I reply, trying to act like his closeness doesn’t affect me. Like it doesn’t make me want to wrap my arms around him and press my lip— no. I’m fine.
He rolls his eyes dramatically. “You’re drunk too.” He pokes my side.
“Hey!” I try to swat his hand away but he turns his fingers around and wraps them around mine. My breath hitches in my throat as he slowly intertwines his fingers with mine. I look at his deep eyes; our stares cut into each other. There’s the fierceness in his eyes and the tenderness that he always has. But there’s also an undercurrent to his stare, one I’ve never seen before, one that burns, and makes my heart pound. My body feels alive in a way I’ve never felt before.
Neteyam’s breath comes out quickly and shakily. His hands tremble in my grasp but he doesn’t let go. I inch closer to him. My skin feels like it’s on fire, there’s a burning hole in my stomach. I want to get close to him. I want to feel his skin beneath my fingertips. I want to entangle my hands in his hair.
“Neteyam,” I breathe. I’ve never heard my voice sound like that. Raspy and— full of desire.
He groans slightly and leans his forehead against mine. “I mean it.”
I pull back, my whole body protests the movement. “What?”
“I meant what I said.” His eyes drink in my face. They trace every inch of it. “I like how you make me feel.” He brings his fingers to my face. He caresses my cheek, holding me gently, as if I were the most delicate, precious thing in the world. “Understood, safe, and free.”
My face breaks into a smile so wide it hurts my cheeks. “You make me feel that way too,” I whisper.
He smiles back at me, a relieved smile, as though he didn’t know I felt that way. How couldn’t he have known? His fingers trace my jawline, his eyes never leaving mine. I reach my hands up and place them on his shoulders. He shudders at their touch. The pit in my stomach grows. I move my hands along his chest, letting them roam as though they have a mind of their own.
His grip on my jaw tightens as he leans towards me. I meet him halfway, our lips brush against each other. He kisses me tentatively as he spreads his long fingers along the side of my face. His lips are soft. He is kind and good, and I adore him. I grip his shoulders. But I also want him, with a kind of want I’ve never felt before. I pull myself into his lap and wrap my legs around his back.
He jolts slightly at my sudden movement before using his other hand to hold my legs in place. I pull my lips away from his and place them on his cheek, then his jaw, and onto his neck. I kiss softly before sucking on his damp skin. He groans beneath me as his grip on my legs tightens. I leave a trail of kisses along his neck, taking my sweet time, listening to the soft moans he tries to hide.
Suddenly, he yanks my face up and kisses me, hard. His mouth is frantic, his lips collide with mine with a newfound urgency. His hand leaves my face and makes its way down my back. I kiss him back, tasting alcohol and salt water. He bites my lip and pulls it between his teeth. I moan before meeting his lips again. I entangle my fingers in his hair, pulling softly against his braids. A groan escapes from the back of the throat as we kiss. I smirk against his lips.
His hands continue to roam from my back to my waist and my stomach. They continue downward before stopping. I pull back and look at him. Our breaths come out heavily, mixing together in the small space between us. Desire burns in my stomach causing my body to throb. “Neteyam,” I whisper. “It’s okay.”
He shakes his head slowly. “No.”
He moves his hands from me. I go rigid on top of him. Does he regret this? The desire that was running through me runs cold. I move to get off him when he grabs my wrist.
“I want to kiss you for as long as I can,” he says. “But I won’t do more. Not now. You deserve more than something like this.” He motions to their surroundings and the empty bottle beside them.
I nod, feeling light headed. He leans forward and kisses my cheek before whispering, “Where were we?”
* I’m thinking about adding another part where Aonug catches them and then drama ensues when their parents find out. Would anyone want to read that? PART 2 IS UP!
*Also, this is my second fanfic so please leave me feedback and let me know if anyone wants to be friends!

alhaitham x mermaid! reader (3)

When you first step foot into sumeru city’s grand bazaar, you're immediately taken aback by the atmosphere. It's too loud, feels too stifling— a far cry from the vast and silent depths of the ocean, or the peaceful serenity of the forest. Even port ormos, had at least a lovely sea breeze. But you've come so far, it'd be a waste not to experience this lively city to its fullest.
“This necklace should only be worn by someone as beautiful as you!”
“Ditch those drab clothes and come see this new fabric from liyue!”
“I guarantee these sunsettias are sweet like you!”
"Can I buy you a drink tonight?"
It's already a little dizzying to be so far inland, but the way all these humans vie for your attention, on top of the musicians and screaming children in the background… it’s a lot to take in so suddenly. Covering your ears helps a little, but not nearly enough to drown out the cacophony. You don’t even care to react when a strong arm wraps around your waist and leads you away.
Alhaitham guides you towards an isolated corner nearby, shooting a glare at any who dares look your way. He speaks to you in your native tongue; his pronunciation has become near flawless with your help.
“Are you alright?”
Both your head and your heart seem to settle a bit at the familiarity.
"It's a little much is all... just need some time to adjust."
To play it safe, alhaitham removes his soundproof earpieces, placing them on you instead, and switches it on to the lowest setting. He's no fan of the noise either, but he's used to it; he'll be fine.
Tumblr media
"Oh isn't this beautiful? And i'm sure it'll look even better on me!"
Alhaitham rolls his eyes. You're gushing over a hairpin while he stands beside you, arms full carrying assorted jewelry, trinkets large and small, a carpet, and a basketful of zaytum peaches. Mermaids and their vanity and their affinity for pretty things… at least you’re helping the local economy.
However, there’s currently only one issue and it isn’t the mora— it's the merchant who has him blacklisted.
"That'll be two million mora for the hairpin."
Now that he cannot justify. It's well crafted and beautifully embedded with crystal ore, but definitely not worth even half of what dori is asking for; only a fool would pay that price. Underhanded as it may be, he manages to swipe a similar hairpin that peaks out from under the large pile of accessories. Besides, all the times lord sangemah bay has overcharged him on information sales is far from a mere two million mora.
Tumblr media
Dinner at lambad’s is interrupted by a trio of colorfully clad men who seem to be on familiar terms with alhaitham. You had always read him as more of a loner, and had seemed to be correct in your assumptions until now.
"I have some business to attend to, but I'll be back shortly. In the meantime, these are my... acquaintances. You can trust them."
“Would it kill you to call us your friends?” says the intimidating, purple one.
The blonde one laughs into oblivion when he sees alhaitham leave with his arms full of your many purchases in tow.
“Ah, so you’re a diver. There’s a specific deep sea coral I’ve been dying to study, but it’s been impossible to get a sample. Would you be interested in working together? I'll be sure to compensate you well.”
You agree to tighnari’s proposal; it would be no trouble as the dragon bone coral he speaks of is easy to find if you know where to look. Across the table, cyno let's out a chuckle.
“You sea…,” a pause for dramatic effect, “you said ‘sure’ which can also be construed as ‘shore.’ As in, the land along the edge of the sea.”
Kaveh orders a round of firewater shots to drown out the pain of cyno’s terrible sense of humor. Unfortunately, alhaitham returns to find out you’re quite the lightweight.
He carries you on his back all the way home, listening to your drunken rambles along the way. You seemed to have had fun with his friends, but there’s a corner of his mind that can’t help but wonder if you now find him boring in comparison.
“I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.”
“Wanna know a secret?” you slur, giggling. “I enjoy the time I spend with you the most.”
With that said, you nuzzle closer into the crook of his neck and alhaitham feels his face heat up all the way to the tips of ears. Mermaids are proud and rarely ever reveal their true feelings, so he counts himself lucky to have heard yours. Your soft breathing tickles his skin. He’s glad you’re asleep now, knowing that you would’ve teased him again otherwise.
Once home, alhaitham sets you on the living room divan before leaving to prepare the bath. The aforementioned business he had to attend to, was purchasing salt. In bulk. He figured you’d need saltwater to rehydrate, as it’s been a few days since you’ve last been in any water. And a saltwater bath would surely be less of a hassle to deal with than a shriveled up mermaid.
The way your legs meld back into a tail is mesmerizing, especially with how your scales shimmer to life in the water. It quickly sobers you up. He’s about to leave but…
“Not even going to keep me company? I stayed with you all night at the cove you know.”
There it is. Alhaitham turns back around just in time to see the little grin on your face, as you rest your arms along the edge of the tub while your long tail hangs over the other end. He doesn’t know much of mermaid physiology but it’s enough to assume the saltwater, makeshift as it may be, has successfully sobered you up.
“I’m going to bed. You should get some sleep as well.”
“But I’m not tired.”
“I am. Goodnight.” And he leaves. Eventually, the man returns with a stack of books and papers.
“These are old studies I pulled from the akademiya regarding the dark sea. Since you’ve got the energy, mind fact checking? Just be careful not to get them wet.”
He sets them down on a nearby stool before a splash of water hits him right in the face.
“How about with some compensation then?” he says, pulling out the hairpin he had swiped from dori.
It’s similar to the one you had previously fawned over, though it’s laid with nagadus emerald instead, which he thought suited you much better than plain crystal ore. Unbeknownst to him, you had liked the first because its cyan stones reminded you of those he would toss in the water upon arriving at the cove. However, you adore this one for the way the emerald gems seem to match the very one sitting on his chest. You think you’ll cherish it forever.
“Will you put it on for me?”
His touch is surprisingly gentle, careful not to accidentally tug too hard. Alhaitham’s seen kaveh put up his hair enough times to replicate a simple style. Easier said than done as it turns out to be less than stellar, sitting slant and loose. At least he tried.
“Well? How does it look?”
Light reflects off the gems in your hair and into the water, casting an iridescent glow that bounces across the room, dancing onto your skin. Anyone could say that even the brightest of jewels dull in the face of your otherworldly beauty. Only he can say that in this moment, in his bathroom, you look more perfect than the moon shining through the window behind you.
“I think it’d look even more flattering if you were reading,” he glances down, “Enigmatic Depths: An Empirical Study of the Ocean and Beyond.”
Another splash of water hits his face.
