ੈ✩‧₊˚ braiding his hair :)
lo’ak sully x reader / short drabble
Tumblr media
“sit still.”
lo’ak sighs as he does as told, he repositioned himself in between your thighs, as you sectioned his hair into little pieces. lo’ak being lo’ak was complaining about having to braid his hair in the morning so you volunteered to.
he was basically falling asleep on you because it was so early, but he was still groaning about the tugging on your hair.
“you’re pulling.” he pouted, childishly but you just roll your eyes at him.
“don’t be a baby, lo’ak.” you shook your head, smiling to yourself.
“don’t call me a baby.” he mutters, shifting around.
he eventually gets lost in the feeling of your touch, the way your nails gently scratch his head makes him get drowsy. you took a minute to admire him, his hair was so so soft, he had really pretty features like his eyes and smile. you thought it was a bit creepy for staring at him like this for too long, especially him being asleep.
“falling asleep on me?” you laughed, grabbing his head with your hands so he could look up at you.
he made a noise that sounded like a ‘mhm’ as he smiled and fluttered his eyes open.
“do i have to go?” he groaned.
“yes! you’re dad wanted you up early today and you interrupted my sleep to braid your stupid hair.”
“stupid hair?” he gasped dramatically, getting up from between your thighs.
you rolled your eyes. “it’s not stupid, im just tired. it was surprisingly soft.”
he furrowed his brows and tilted his head. “so you like my hair?” he smirked.
you threw the closest thing to you (which was grass) at him.
“hey!” he laughed. “not in my new braids, a real artist did these!”
you two laughed for a moment, until you cupped his face in your hands, pecking him on the lips and staring into his eyes.
his eyes fluttered, looking into your eyes then back to your lips.
“you’re pretty.” you said, kissing him all over his face.
“okay okay, are you trying to kill me?” he laughed, clearly blushing.
“lo’ak! father wants us.” neteyam nodded towards his dad, smirking at his brother kissing you. he nodded back and got up, beginning to leave you’re home tree.
“no im not, but do not get hurt. im the one who has to patch you up so you’re dad doesn’t yell at you.” you grinned, walking alongside him.
“no promises.” he kissed you one last time before joining his brother.

Falling for a human | tonowari
Tumblr media
requested by anon
When you first met tonowari the whole village was skeptical about you— they quite frankly thought you were a demon
Tonowari’s parents warned him to stay away especially because he had a reputation to maintain
When the sky people came and attacked their village you didn’t hesitate to fight as a navi
You protected the clan to the best of your ability and got hurt along the way (battle scars :0)
Tonowari was fighting to protect his home and family when a sky person was about to shoot him and you immediately went into action without thinking and pushed him out of the way— saving his life
He’d be completely shocked looking up at you as you were in pain but made sure he was okay and his heart would skip a beat he’d think “she risked her life— for me?”
The battle would be in the navi’s favor and the sky people retreated and everyone rejoiced and had a celebration
Tonowari’s parents would brag about the village’s accomplishments, and would thank eywa for protecting their son but tonowari would stop and tell the crowd that it was infact you who risked their life to protect the community who looked at her differently and even saved him
His parents would be shocked and the village would cheer your name and surround you, they accepted you
After saving their son tonowari’s parents started to enjoy your company, they viewed you as a hero
Tonowari also viewed you as such but he also started to take an interest in you— as did you
Y’all’s feelings would grow with time and y’all’s bond would become inseparable and his parents approved of this
Of course since you’re human you can’t “mate” so tonowari and you led to more human traditions— he made you a ring to symbolize the partnership and you made him a matching necklace
Afterwards you started to become more involved in the village and helped around and met your best friend ronal— she’d be mated and had 2 kids and another on the way
Even though you were human the metkayina viewed you as their own and you viewed them the same and you enjoyed your life with your husband and your people

It makes me so sad when people hate on Spider, because...did we watch the same movie?
That kid was so loyal to the Sully's and Na'vi! He went through torture and never let anything slip through. Loyal to people who didn't even see him as family (outside of the kids).
He saved Quaritch because he's a good kid. I also saw it as "a life for a life", since Quaritch stopped Neytiri from killing him on the ship (and yes, she 100% would've killed him for her daughter, she doesn't give a shit about Spider, especially in the state she was in).
Also!! He spent MONTHS with Quaritch, grew close to him in a way, had a relationship with a man who's technically his father, and you fault him for not wanting let him die when he could save him?
He didn't side with him, didn't forgive him, didn't show love towards him. He saved a man's life. Spider is kid who couldn't let a man's life be on his conscious.
I don't fault him for it, he knows his choice will have consequences.

Shoutout to my mom who let me dump a bunch of spoilers on her so I could cry about Neteyam. Finally had the chance to get all that sobbing that dehydration robbed me of yesterday out of my system, and I’m feeling a little better now. I mean, the situation still makes me sad, but I don’t think I’ll continue to have my eyes suddenly start leaking every other hour like they did for most of today. :’)
so uuuhhh now that I’ve more or less gotten over that hurdle, I can finally sit down and make a post about all the other stuff from the movie! So here’s a list of some of the other thoughts and observations I had, not exactly comprehensive cuz this is all coming after 24 hours of grieving so I may not remember every single little thought I had, but here we go anyways (also tagging @tenebrius-excellium cuz you said you wanted to hear my thoughts):
-I just want to watch the first five or so minutes on loop for a while (although maybe without the cuts to Neytiri singing the songcord because 🥲, good golly the moment I saw that shot I, already being familiar with the lore behind songcords, was like oh NOOOOO), just the scenes of those ~14 peaceful years where the kids are growing up and the RDA is gone and everyone is happy together and it’s all just so sweet, this is the content I want, I want more of it, please pretty please, I know it’ll be a while before all the gif-makers are able to get a hold of those scenes but man as soon as they do goodness gracious I’m just gonna stare at it all for hours 😭
-While I was already assuming that the Metkayina didn’t actually know English and that we the audience were only hearing English for convenience, I was expecting that issue not to be directly addressed. So I was pleasantly surprised when it was subtly addressed with Jake’s voiceover about now being familiar enough with the Na’vi language to understand it as easily English as the audio of the kids bickering swapped from Na’vi to English. Theory confirmed!
-Speaking of the Na’vi language, I did feel very excited because I was able to understand some of the unsubtitled lines, which was a goal! so yay!! I mean, I didn’t understand every Na’vi line spoken (some of the longer ones I’ll definitely have to listen to more than once to piece together), but to even understand any of it at all, especially the ones without subtitles, felt very awesome!! dopamine rush babey!!!
-And on that note, the fact that Quaritch of all characters was making an effort to learn the language really surprised me! He struck me as the type of character to not give two craps about that sort of thing but hey. I definitely got a kick of out of Spider absolutely roasting him for his lack of skills hrh (note, I very most certainly do not condone actually mocking new learners making mistakes, obviously, but seeing as this is Quaritch we’re talking about...^^”) Spider’s line here was also a place I even managed to catch a subtitle discrepancy -- iirc, the subtitles read “You sound like a three-year-old!” but the actual line was nga plltxe na ‘eveng ahì’i! you speak like a small child! Which, I mean, y’know, same gist, but it was cool to be able to understand the actual words!! I also greatly enjoyed Spider trying to teach Quaritch the distinction between na and nga, just because man that’s one of those things every learner has been through, idk it was delightful to watch it go down between canon characters hrh
-Speaking of Quaritch and Spider....wow, I was surprised just how early they dropped the “Quartich’s son” bomb. That had been a pretty popular and plausible theory for a while, but I was expecting it to either be left up to interpretation or used as a bombshell later in the film. But nope, from the get-go it’s pretty heavily implied that not only is Quaritch Spider’s biological father, but that they’re both aware of this. So. Yeah, that was certainly a surprise.
-Kiri “I would rather drink acid than have Norm be my biological father” good gracious girl! like I mean yes the idea that Norm and Grace were secretly hookin’ up is obviously preposterous, but what did Norm ever do to you to deserve that reaction ^^; haha
-I mentioned in my High Ground post the three primary theories on Kiri’s origins. Having now seen the movie, I now think the mystical-Eywa-conception theory is by far the most likely. However, canonically it still remains a mystery/up to interpretation. Perhaps we’ll get more answers in movie 3...
-Y’know what, vulgarity is not typically my type of humor, but Lo’ak flippin’ Quaritch the double bird when asked to let him see his fingers did get a chuckle out of me hrh
-hey um yo the Metkayina kids were absolute JERKS, what the heck?? like good golly heckin’ rude. Except for Tsireya she’s chill I like her :)
-Personally I don’t think the story of this movie is a total rehash of the first one overall, but I can very mostly definitely see how people would consider it so. There were several lines in two scenes in particular, the one where the Sullies arrive at the Metkayina clan and the one with the tulkun hunters, that were just soooooo similar to lines from the first movie, not quite verbatim but certainly awkwardly close. I can absolutely see this becoming a common complaint from internet critics.
-Tuk pretty much solely exists to make the audience go d’awwwww!!, and y’know what, that’s ok because boy did she succeed :’)
-unfortunately, Quaritch’s ikran has by far the coolest design of all the ikrans, like bruh that color palette is heckin’ dope. what a shame ur now stuck with this jerk lol. Though I did snicker at Quaritch feeling the need to bond with the ikran “the hard way” solely because he couldn’t stand to be outdone by Jake lol
-I liked Lo’ak and Payakan’s friendship, it was very sweet. Also very interesting design-wise that a tulkun’s queue is in his mouth, and that the mouth has more of those bioluminescent patterns on the inside.
-The fact that the tulkun hunters are 100% aware that the species they’re hunting is fully sapient feels very ick to me. Sir that’s...that’s murder. Good gracious. and um “tulkun brain juice stops human aging” wh...what?? can uh...can we get some more explanation on that??? like is that gonna be somehow relevant to later movies or is it just some arbitrary thing to make the brain juice valuable, valuable enough to attempt to justify murder idk but uh....yyyyyyeah 😬
-minor thing, but I was surprised that the swimming baby from the trailer was, in fact, not Ronal’s. In fact, we never actually meet Ronal’s baby, which, again, surprised me. Why make her pregnant if we don’t get to see the baby, it feels kinda random ^^; to link her to her spirit tulkun who just had a calf I guess?? idk. once again, maybe it’ll become more relevant in movie 3.
-until proven otherwise, I am heretofore declaring that final “a son for a son” line to be Spider’s official adoption into the Sully family 😭😭😭
anyways, I guess that’ll do for now. I’m sure there was other stuff but I’ve been sitting here typing for over an hour already. Perhaps later I’ll come back with more comments, idk. I’ll be seeing the movie again next week with the rest of my family, so maybe I’ll notice different things/remember stuff that got swallowed up in the feels. Will I cry more than I did on my first viewing because I’m gonna try not to go in dehydrated again, or less because by then I’ll have had a week to process and accept everything? I have literally no idea. Guess we’ll have to just wait and see...

One thing About Quaritch In Avatar: Way of Water
I really really appreciate the possible identity issues Quaritch is dealing with after being “revived” in an Avatar. Quaritch from the first movie is dead. Period. Avatar Quaritch seems to logically recognize that e’s not really Quaitch in the way e stresses that to Spider and doesn’t argue with the Commander. E brings Spider the dogtags, and even picks them up after Spider throws them away. E seems sad to see es own dead body, but at the same time crushes human Quaritch’s skull-- which could either mean e’s rejecting the idea of “Quaritch” the person being dead, or is detaching further from the identity of Quaritch.
Still,  later e tells Neytiri “I owe you a death” as if e still identifies as Quaritch. Yet later tries to deny being Spider’s father. If you ask me, Quaritch being afraid of Neytiri’s arrow is less a matter of being traumatized and more a matter of Quaritch tussling with the fact that the memories and personality e’s relied on to feel confident and able are from a guy who ultimately failed. RDA’s shooting em at Sully BECAUSE e has Quaritch’s memories and personality, that alone is a massive ego boost, like being told you’re gonna win a race bc you’ve got the best shoes on. Neytiri’s arrows humble em and remind em of what happened to the guy RDA wants em to be. If e just leans on the identity, skills, knowledge, and habits of Colonel Quaritch, e’s gonna end up just like Quaritch.
Avatar Quaritch overall seems to just juggle having implanted memories and personality traits that make em identify as Quaitch with the reality e logically accepts early on that e’s ultimately a different person-- a fact e tries to benefit from TWICE.
That paired with seeing and feeling the world through a different body, with different abilities, and different opportunities, just makes em a festering pot full of complexity. Like, Imagine having daddy issues, but daddy is yourself.
Chaotic Evil catboy vibes aside, I just find the concept of this character really neat. At first I thought it lazy to just bring back last movie’s baddie, but they added layers to this stinky onion of a character

Jiniraa gets to go outside for the first time in a week, but her emotions are getting the best of her. Miles finds himself doing things he never thought he would do.
cross-posted on ao3 here content warning: anxiety anxiety anxiety word count: 4.6k
“Hey, let’s go. We’re heading out.” Lyle’s voice interrupted the near-catatonic Jiniraa was stuck in for the past hour. Her eyes were lifeless and unfocused on the floor. The tears had dried out long ago, but the red around her eyes prevailed. She was physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted - the afternoon took a toll on her body.
She didn’t say anything, only silently moving to Lyle. He gave her a moment to steady herself on her feet before spinning on his heel and moving towards the deal. Whenever Mansk escorted her to and from her holding cell, he’d slow his pace. Lyle didn’t share the same sympathies - his boots pounded against the ground, arms swinging against his sides.
Lyle kept glancing at Jiniraa as they navigated the metal halls of the holding facility, but didn’t say anything. She didn’t seem to notice - eyes trained on the floor. It was like she wasn’t mentally there, her body was moving without her brain thinking at all.
Lyle paused, stepping into the transition compartment between the outside of the facility. Jiniraa knew what this meant, recognizing it from the human lab at High Camp. Her ears perked the slightest, enough for Lyle to notice. For the first time in a week, Jiniraa was about to go outside.
Even though they had been walking for a few minutes, this was the first time Jiniraa had registered that she was no longer in the training center. She took inventory of her surroundings, giving Lyle a once over. Lyle had his tactile vest on - the daunting machete was the size of her forearm.
Lyle waited for the overhead confirmation the door was properly sealed, protecting the human-occupied zone from the toxic Pandoran atmosphere outside. Once they received it, he didn’t waste a second before pushing the metal door open.
Jiniraa practically lept outside, letting herself flourish in the bright sunlight. Lyle allowed her to pause for a few moments to take in the fresh air. He knew what it was like to breathe the filtered oxygen inside the facility after breathing freely outside - the place his new body was designed to thrive in.
He could only imagine what it had been like to breathe in the cinnamon-esque Pandoran air your entire life before being shoved into the human area and being forced to breathe the human atmosphere, supplementing your lungs with the respirator frequently.
They weren’t meant to be kept indoors. They were supposed to be outside.
Her eyes fluttered close as her head fell back. Her neck stretched, exposing her throat. Lips pulled into a smile - a real smile. Ears twitched around, taking in the noise of the environment. It was dominated by loud machinery but there was a hint of wildlife in the distance. Just outside of her reach.
“Alright, come on. We’re movin’,” Lyle didn’t stick around to make sure she trailed behind.
She reluctantly followed. There was more pep in her step. Her eyes took in the new surroundings, watching the dozens of humans move around performing their jobs. She noticed the guns slung over their shoulders. Both human and Na’vi exchanged curious glances.
“Wainfleet - let’s go! We’re waitin’ on your sorry ass!” A voice yelled from across the tarmac - Zdinarsk.
“Of fuck off,” Lyle muttered under his breath before speeding up to a steady jog, moving towards the rest of the crew. Jiniraa followed, but made a point to not match Lyle’s pace. She was too busy taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the new environment. She hadn’t been mentally stimulated in so long - her previous scenery was limited to the cold, gray metal walls.
Jiniraa finally caught up to the group, joining the circle. She connected the dots - realizing everyone filed out of the training center while she was stuck in her haze of sadness. The rest of the unit departed twenty minutes before Lyle brought her, annoyed by waiting for the final two.
Spider nudged Jiniraa on her thigh, grabbing her attention. He had his filtration mask on - the first time he’d had it on in over a week. They didn’t exchange words, just offering each other small smiles.
Miles watched out of the corner of his eye as Jiniraa bent down, checking the seal on Spider’s mask. Her caring nature surpassed any sadness she’d previously experienced. Spider swatted her hands away, annoyed at her concerned display. She clicked her tongue at him, narrowing her eyes jokingly and stood back up.
“Alright - let’s get going. We’re losing daylight, people!” Miles announced to the group. Everyone started moving towards the lowered ramp of the carrier.
Jinraa’s ears flattened at the sound of the Colonel’s announcement. The anger was bubbling back within her stomach. Her lip pulled back into a small snarl, but managed to suppress it enough to not make a scene.
“Hey-” the Colonel attempted to grab her by the elbow, but she smoothly maneuvered out of his reach and ignored him. She pushed Spider in front of her, making sure he entered the carrier before she did, an attempt to keep him within her eye line.
Lyle was waiting on the loading deck, “hey - mask on completely,” he pointed to her. She complied silently, eyes subconsciously flicking down to Spider, doing a triple check. Lyle pointed to the seats against the wall, “take a seat. Belts on.”
The pair shuffled around, stepping around the Recoms bustling around trying to load their gear. Spider took the seat in the corner. He looked ridiculous in the oversized seat; it obviously was designed for Na’vi-sized bodies, not human teenagers.
Jiniraa sat down but didn’t latch the belt over her hips just yet. She glanced around, making sure everyone was preoccupied with their own tasks.
She leaned down to Spider's ear, whispering in Na’vi, “just listen to what they say. We will figure out how to escape, alright? Just stick by me okay?”
Spider nodded his head, watching as his friend stood back up and gilded towards Lyle. He grunted and he shoved an oversized duffle into an overhead compartment.
“What?” His voice was gruff, his breath slightly labored.
“Do you have a secondary mask and unit for Spider? For backup?” Jiniraa asked, sweetening her voice slightly. He didn’t know what he expected her to ask, but that wasn’t it.
“Uh - yeah. Gimme a second.” He bent next to a green backpack and rummaged through, pulling a secondary human-sized unit. He shoved the mask into her hands, she smiled and spun in her place, returning to the seats.
“Hey - wait. Here’s a waist pack for you. Put the kid’s mask in there.”
Lyle watched as Jinraa clipped the pack around her waist, tucking the mask and black filtration box into the largest compartment. She unzipped another section, slipping the waist bag from Tsu’tey in there.  He didn’t tell her where the pack magically appeared from on such short notice. Afterall, he’d been specifically told not to.
The material was foreign against her skin. It was already rubbing - she envisioned it chafing her sides within a few hours. It wasn’t soft and pliable like the material she’d been used to. It was made of rough, chemically treated nylon. The color matched the rest of the Recom gear; green looked bizarre against her skin tone, yet was natural against everyone else.
As she sat down with Spider, a particular onlooker noticed how her hands seemed to cradle the waist pack that rested on her stomach. Those hands protected the two most important things to her at the moment - Spider’s extra mask and her damaged waist bag.
When the time came, Jiniraa noticed that Miles took the farthest seat possible from her, sitting next to Lyle at the other end of the aisle. Mansk chose to sit next to Jiniraa. She was oddly at ease strapped in her seat; over the past few days she’d grown at least semi-comfortable with Mansk. He was quiet, a quality she found soothing. Emotionally drained from the past day, she fell asleep to the sounds of the aircraft buzzing in her ears.
●●●
“Hey, hey, ‘Niraa. Wake up. We’re landing soon,” Spider shook Jiniraa out of her sleep. As her head rolled forward, her eyes readjusted to her surroundings. Spider felt guilty waking her - she managed to actually fall asleep for the entire two hour flight. It was the longest uninterrupted sleep she’d received in a week.
She stretched her arms, bumping into Mansk who stirred in response. The sunglasses covering his eyes always made it hard to read his emotions; the Marine was taking advantage of the flight himself, getting a little shuteye. Jiniraa muttered a small apology under her breath.
The ship jolted as it made contact with the ground. Instinctively, Jiniraa extended her arm across Spider’s chest, pushing his back against the seat.
“Let’s get a move on. I want everyone in the chopper ASAP. Clear?” The powerful reverberation of Miles’ voice shook away Jiniraa’s remaining sleep. A series of acknowledgements came from half a dozen Recoms. They already began undoing their lap belts before the cargo ramp lowered. Jiniraa and Spider made quick work to free themselves from their own belts, hearts pounding in tandem. Anxiety, excitement, or fear? One could argue it was a combination of all three.
The second the ramp began to lower, Jiniraa’s eyes were glued to the outside world. She could almost feel her body gravitating towards the open hatch. She’d probably get ten feet before she was shot down or tackled, so she repressed every instinct telling her to take Spider and book it.
“Not so fast,” the Colonel stepped in front of her, blocking her line of sight, “I know that look. You ain’t runnin’ on my watch.”
Jiniraa stood up, refusing to vocally respond to the Colonel. She wouldn’t give him that satisfaction, not after realizing he was the reason her prized possession was destroyed. Just a few hours prior, he’d seen her emotionally break in two. Now? She was past the initial sadness, she was firmly planted in anger now. It was apparent in her eyes as she glared into his own.
The cramped compartment had her chest pressed into his tactical vest as she stood. Being the proud man he was, Miles refused to take a step back.
“What am I getting the silent treatment from you?” He mockingly pouted. Her skin seemed a little brighter, eye bags less prevalent. He ignored it, obviously. Just like he ignored the way her breath worked its way across his chest.
Miles was the first to look away, reluctantly submitting to the display Jiniraa had put on. He had to pick and choose his battles with her. There were more important things at hand. He glanced to the left, seeing the ramp was completely lowered to the ground and everyone was cleared to exit. He cocked his head to Jiniraa and Miles, motioning them to follow.
The Recoms moved in a quick procession. Jiniraa and Spider were surrounded on all sides by the individuals armed to the teeth, almost like a royal escort. She tried to take in every detail around her, peaking around the Recoms to get a better view. The hustle and bustle of Bridgehad was something she’d never experienced before. Trying to take in the new environment made her lag behind enough for Spider to momentarily slip from her vision.
The Recoms made quick work moving from the carrier towards the gunship. Spider was practically running to keep up with Miles’ being pushed by the solid hand on the kid’s upper back.
“Get on the ship. Find a seat and keep out of the way,” with one final push, Miles forced Spider towards the gunship. Jiniraa’s steps staggered slightly as the engine roared to life. It was louder, larger, and sleeker than the RDA gunship the Ometikaya had in their procession - that vessel was almost twenty years old at this point. This one? New and improved. The Recoms filed in quickly, unfazed by the noise.
Miles turned, clapping his hands together, “let’s go! Chop chop.”
His eyes landed on Jiniraa’s stunned figure. Her legs were frozen in place. She was scared. Almost more scared than she’d been in the past few days. Everything was hitting her all at once. A shaking right hand made its way up to her chest, feeling the rapid pulse under the skin. Miles bit the inside of his cheek at the sight of her.
“Hey - let’s go.” She didn’t move as he called out. He grumbled and took a few steps forward. When she didn’t react at all, he waved a hand in front of her face - that seemed to pull her out of it. Two blinks and she looked up.
“Enough with the silent treatment. We have things to do.” He barked down, instantly regretting the tone once he saw the look on her face.
That animosity and anger she had less than five minutes ago? Gone. Completely. Now? He saw a scared young woman, eyes wide and afraid. He tilted his head to the side, trying to not let it phase him.
He grabbed her arm, watching as her eyes slowly drifted to the skin-to-skin contact. It felt like she was watching the scene as an onlooker, outside her own body. It took longer than it should have to register the rough hand on her arm.
“You’re not gonna be a problem today, right?” He asked, voice stern and eyes only soft enough that she would see it. Any onlooker would assume he was scolding her. She didn’t respond, beginning to press her fingers deeper into her chest as her lungs constricted.
Miles’ eyes flicked down, putting together what was happening. He could feel the anxiety radiating from her shaking body. His ears twitched at the datapad dinging in his vest. He slowly extended his other hand, taking her right arm between his grasp.
He waited to say something, letting her adjust to the new contact. Her eyes began to water as he exhaled, “everyone is waiting. We have to go. Okay?”
His voice was soft, the softest she’d ever heard. The final word was in Na’vi, an obvious olive branch and attempt at peace. She took a deep breath and nodded, wiping the single tear that slipped down her cheek. Miles kept his hand around his upper arm, feeling the muscle flex. His fingers were making soft indents on her arm. He was studying her, trying to get inside her head and figure out where her mind was at.
With one final overview of her form, Miles stepped back, gently nudged the woman in front of his body. Two reasons in mind. One - if she turned to run away from the gunship - which was completely understandable, given the anxiety attack he just talked her down from - he would be able to just wrap an arm around her waist and throw her over his shoulder. Two - he was able to give her a clear line of sight to Spider, one of the only things keeping her grounded at the moment.
Jiniraa tentatively stepped towards the gunship. The ground was hot under her feet, burning her soles. The feeling only just registered in her head, motivating her to move a little quicker towards the beast of a ship.
Spider was squatting behind the mounted gun. It was the size of his entire body. Miles told himself Jiniraa was close enough, she wouldn’t turn and run as he took two large strides, closing the distance.
“Woah! Hold on there hot shot,” he lifted the human with east, setting him in one of the seats. Straddling the opening, Miles watched as Jiniraa jumped beside his legs, hoisting herself into the gunship to stand next to Spider. Ja bumped into her as he took a seat, causing her tail to flick in annoyance.
“You listen up - there’s a tracker built into that mask. We hit the ground and you take off? I’ll have you back in two minutes and I will give you an old-school ass whippin’. Understood?”
Jiniraa was too preoccupied watching everyone file into the funship to listen to the Colonel; she took a headcount, noting where each Recom situated themselves. Lyle reclaimed his rightful place behind the door mount, not before he shot the human a glare for touching his equipment.
Spider rolled his eyes, annoying the Colonel to no end. He repeated himself once more, a bit more aggressively, “understood?”
“Yes sir.” Spider mocked, obviously disrespecting the Colonel’s authority. It wasn’t the enthusiasm he wanted, but it checked the box of verbal response. Threat delivered and received.
“Jinraa,” the Colonel called out, pulling her head back to Pandora and out of the clouds. He hasn't used her name more than a handful of times. She hummed, acknowledging the man. “Your throat comm had a tracker built in as well. And a heart rate monitor. You take it off and I’ll know in less than three seconds. You take off runnin’? Same threat goes for you. Got it?”
She just nodded. The Colonel didn’t push for a verbal confirmation. Maybe he knew she wasn’t going to get one.
“Take a seat.” Miles didn’t stick around to notice how she didn’t move an inch. She was still standing next to Spider as Miles leaned out the side of the vessel, obnoxiously slamming a palm against the canopy to tell the pilots they were ready.
Jiniraa didn’t expect the takeoff to come so quickly, stumbling as the ground became unstable. She felt her body sway backwards and forwards before the flailing limbs caught the Colonel’s attention.
His eyes widened as the woman was unsecured in the cabin. Were the rest of the unit wearing the safety belts they probably should’ve been wearing? No, absolutely not. However, Jinraa had never been in a kestrel before. For a second, he imagined her tumbling out the open door and falling to her death.
“Jesus, woman, ‘git over here.” Miles leaned over and grabbed her arm, pulling her closer to him and setting her against the bulkhead.
Logically, he should’ve pushed her into the open seat next to Spider. That would’ve put Lyle and himself between her and a freefall to her death. That’s what he should’ve done. Instead, he had her close enough that his palm rested against her calf, holding her steady.
Miles leaned out the side of the aircraft, reveling in the wind against his face. Every once and a while, he glanced at the Na’vi and noticed the envious look on her face. She wanted to feel the wind against her face.
“Come ‘ere,” he didn’t wait before pulling her once again. He slid himself back, making enough to accommodate her body. He positioned her between his legs and the door, letting her get comfortable with the wind.
She initially thought he’d throw her out the side of her ship. Once his left leg moved to secure her in place, she realized he wasn’t out to kill her. Just yet. She was moved so she could see outside and feel the wind.
Her hair wasn’t pulled back - only the front pieces were pulled back with her hand carved bone pin. Thick waves flew back against Miles’ face; he leaned back, grimacing as it scratched his exposed skin, muttering something under his breath. The sound of wind in her ears overpowered any chance of hearing his discontent.
Jiniraa didn’t notice the Colonel’s predicament, but when her hair wrapped around her own face, she pulled it across one shoulder. With the hair secured down, her entire back was exposed.
Over the past few days, Miles and the other Recoms had grown used to the amount of skin her outfit revealed, especially the top - which had little coverage across her back. Besides a few cords that secured the front panel down, there was nothing across her entire back. Miles’ eyes were drawn to a few dark patches blooming near her shoulder blades. They were obviously from the training matches.
His mind quickly flashed to when she managed to subdue him, forcing him into submission for the first time. The scene changed to when he got payback the next day - he threw her over his shoulder. He basked in the win until she began to whimper on the ground. She landed directly on her shoulder. He clenched his teeth at the resurfaced memory - the bruise was probably from that day.
Jiniraa couldn’t stop the tears forming in her eyes. Maybe she was a little melodramatic in retrospect, but she thought she’d die inside that box they called a holding cell. Never able to feel the grass below her feet or run through a shallow river or get to enjoy all the other beauties her home has to offer.
Jiniraa leaned back, trying to see more of the landscape. Her back pressed against the Colonel’s tactical vest, causing him to tense. She didn’t seem to notice, too enthralled by the visual stimulation. He could feel her tail brushing the inside of his thigh through the thick material of his fatigues. The sensation was unexpected and hard to ignore.
He tilted his head down, reluctantly pulling his gaze away from the stunning scenery to check on Jiniraa. She had a smile on her face - the kind of smile where your face starts to hurt in a few minutes, but you don’t care because of the pure joy you’re experiencing. That kind of smile. It was refreshing.
Jiniraa let her eyes close, imagining she wasn’t on a ship. She imagined she was back on her ikran, Situ. Oh poor Situ. Jiniraa missed her ikran deeply.
The rest of the ride went rather smoothly. Miles suppressed the urge to ask Jiniraa the name of every animal they passed. He felt if he pushed too hard, she’d spiral again. She was pretty fragile today.
When the ship touched down, Miles slid Jiniraa back into the cabin, tucking her safely against the bulkhead. Warning eyes told her to stay put. The entire Recom team exited the kestrel, surveying the area for hostiles, silently communicating through intricate hand signals.
Within two minutes, Miles came back to college Spider and Jiniraa, telling the pilot they were able to leave. Jiniraa practically leapt out of the gunship, landing in the grass with a soft thud. She bent at the knees, hovering over the ground in a squat. She laid her palms against the soft ground, feeling the pulse of life around her. She muttered a quiet prayer to the Great Mother, thanking her for the return to the forest.
The serene moment came to an end as the Recoms began to circle up. They moved through the brush with little grace or care for the vegetation around them, carelessly stepping on plants.
They were more heavily armed than she’d ever seen them. Mansk - the quietest of the bunch - had the largest piece of equipment. He was also the only one wearing a long sleeve. Covered head to toe and carrying equipment that large? He’ll overheat soon enough.
Zdinarsk had her tattoos on full display, already covered in a thin sheen of sweat.
In one of their training breaks, Jiniraa asked each Recom about the ink that decorated their bodies. A few of them, such as Mansk, had pieces that remained relatively hidden by clothing, but Zdinarsk had the most artwork. It also was the most intricate and colorful.
Jiniraa asked if there were any stories behind the art choices. When it came to Zdinark’s turn, she furrowed her brows, trying to formulate a thought. The memories were too foggy to piece together. She shrugged, crossing her arms, “they’re just badass.”
Jiniraa knew there was a lie behind the cocky grin. Her eyes were troubled and distant. A conversation for another day.
Ja and Prager remained the most elusive, not engaging when asked about their individual tattoos. Lopez had little stories, but he kept them pretty short.
Out of everyone, Lyle was the most excited to talk about himself. He flexed before the audience, showing off the two tattoos on his arms. He then went through a longer than necessary story about being tough, trying to rationalize the (objectively ugly) tattoo on his shoulder and the bold dragon on his forearm.
He then went ahead to say he had five in total and the ladies liked to search for the other three. Zdinarsk gave him a firm slap on the back of his head, punishment for the ‘joke’.
Jiniraa hadn’t asked the Colonel about his shoulder tattoo. During meal times, he was often too caught up in his datapad, rewatching training exercise videos. He was always trying to find ways to make the unit work more efficiently.
Jiniraa nudged Spider in front of her again, weaving their way towards the Recoms who gathered a few yards away. As they walked, she spun the green waist bag around, letting it rest against the small of her back. It would make climbing and navigating a little easier.
Spider seemed back in his element as well, climbing on a fallen log behind the Colonel. He wasn’t fazed as the human boy made his way behind him, continuing his monologue.
“Listen up. Jake Sully has gone underground. Don’t matter. We’ll find him - and his batshit crazy wife too.”
There were a few chuckles sounding from  the unit. Jiniraa’s ears flattened and her tail flicked at the conversation. She knew the mission: capture Jake by any means necessary. The vocalization made her anxious. She crossed her arms across her chest, leaning against the log Spider perched himself on. Zdinarsk’s eyes flicked down momentarily to the shorter woman between herself and the Colonel.
The Colonel continued, “to do so, we go Na’vi. Full tilt all the way. We eat Na’vi, we ride Na’vi,” he paused, pressing two fingers to his temple, “we think Na’vi.”
He paused, making eye contact with Jiniraa for a split second before turning back to the group, “and that starts with speaking the language.”
His Na’vi was so bad - it was the worst she’d ever heard. The pronunciation was choppy and hesitant, but Miles’ voice was commanding by nature. The two elements made an awkward juxtaposition. Jiniraa fought the urge to facepalm - all the hours she spent teaching Miles seemed worthless.
Spider laughed, pulling the attention of the entire group, Jiniraa included. At some point in Miles’ monologue, he stood up.
“You call that speaking the language? You sound like a three year old. Pretty bad considering you’ve had a private teacher for the past week.”
Jiniraa’s cheeks flushed a darker hue as six sets of eyes were directed in her direction. Lyle was trying to maintain his own laughter at how awful the Colonel sounded, his sunglasses hiding the crinkled in the corner of his eyes.
Miles bit his lip, trying to decide how to proceed. “Alright, smart guy. You just went from our monkey mascot to official interpreter. And you-” he pointed at Jiniraa, “are gonna help us go Na’vi.”
“One condition,” she quipped back. It was the first time anyone - besides Spider - heard her voice in hours. She had to clear her throat.
“Nope. No conditions.” The Colonel argued back. She crossed her arms, raising a brow in defiance.
“One condition,” she repeated one more.
“Fine, sweetheart. One.” He compromised. Her breath caught at the nickname - the first time it affected her. The mission couldn’t be successful without the combined efforts of Spider and Jiniraa. Quaritch’s strategy had always been to infiltrate the mind of the enemy. Knowing how they worked would eventually reveal their fatal flaw.
“You’re going to do it my way,” she smiled back. Miles raised a single hand, massaging the headache he could already feel mounting up.

Jake Sully is so “Big Jet Plane” by Angus and Julia Stone.
I wanna hold her
I wanna kiss her
He had two jobs while he was in pandora, get intel of the Navi tribes and learn their ways for Graces studies. One person can’t predict to fall in love, Jake knew what the Omaticayan people thought of him. Jake Sully was demon blood, a outsider, but most of all he’s not true Navi. The chiefs daughter was instructed to teach Jake the Navi way, she took pride in her teaching and simply refused the possibility of failure. She was the most beautiful creature he’s ever seen, nothing could compare to her. Jake was engulfed by her presence everyday of his life and he couldn’t be more happy. Grace told him to not make a pass on you because it would be considered to be disrespectful, but he was drawn to you. He was drawn to the freckles across your face and that rare smile that shows your pointy fangs. Everything fell into place when the clan accepted him as a Omaticayan, so now he will be heard and maybe even seen.
She drive me crazy
She drive me crazy
“They sent me here to learn your ways. So one day I could bring this message and you would believe it” you push him back a little bit by his harm holding him there and drawing his attention to you. You furrow your eyebrows in confusion try to make eye contact, “What are you saying Jake? You knew this would happen?”, your hands move away from his body, realization dawning on you. He looks directly at you unwavering, “Yes at first it was just orders” his heart breaks a little bit when you back away from him looking wounded. His hands reach out for you as his voice drops to a almost whisper, “And then everything changed ok? I fell in love, I fell in love with you” his hands falling in your shoulders. Your eyes drop from his looking down, your ears tilting downwards in sorrow, “w-with the forest and the Omaticayan people” he says smiling trying to fix the betrayal. You push him back a little, smacking at his arms lightly not daring to make eye contact with him, “I trusted you” you say backing away. His hands follow you again but still they get moved, “ I trusted you” you say louder smacking his arms again but harder this time. He continues to speak trying to win you back to stop this pain. You yell at him in Navi tongue looking him in the eyes before shielding away, you shove him back hitting his chest glaring. “You will never be one of the people!” you grit out at him almost shaking with anger and despair. “Please, please” Jake pleads voice cracking watching you flinch away from him. Grace tried to speak on his behalf earning nothing but dirty looks.
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
Many Navi lives were lost in the war against the sky people Jake did everything he could in the time he was cut loose from captivity. The next time he seen you was in the middle of the forest your body thrown over your fathers. You blamed him for everything in that moment, the destruction of your home, the death of your father, and the oblivion of your trust. The only thing that could bring you back to him was a sign of eywa herself. Jake being Toruk Makto was the sign. After the Omaticayan people won the war the pairs relationship was so much better. Of course things changed in regards to the growth of the forest and also Jake being the new chief.
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
He was aiding you through the pregnancy of your first born. The first trimester was the hardest for Jake to help through. The morning sickness was so painful to watch, Jake couldn’t stand seeing his mate cry out from disgust. When he would hear the gagging every morning before he was usually awake he would immediately run further into the forest to find you. He sighs in relief seeing that you are ok, yet he still grimaces seeing you hunched over breathing ragged. Jake sits by you every morning paying no attention to the sickness displayed on the floor. He will hold your hair up and rub your back whispering sweet nothings into your ear until your done. You’ll take a moment, no longer dry heaving into the grass but then emotions over take you every once in a while. You start breaking down sobbing still hunched over your face too close to the ground for Jake to handle. He pulls you into his lap your head resting on his chest, “Hey hey, no need for the tears hmm?”. Your hands grasp onto his shoulders as he rocks you back and forth in attempt to comfort. “Please don’t cry baby, your breaking my heart” he says smiling down at your rubbing his thumb across your cheek. You quiet down and lay in his embrace until you fall asleep again leaving Jake to carry you back to bed.
Gonna hold ya,
Gonna kiss ya in my arms
Your son Neteyam was beautiful and he was so kind and mature at a young age. Neteyam brought you and Jake so much pride and he was so protective of his siblings. Neteyam always told his parents how much he loved family time so that’s what the family did. The family would go out a skip rocks together Lo’ak hitting Neteyam pretending that it was a accident. Jake scolds Lo’ak trying not to laugh at Neteyams bewildered facial expression. “It’s ok Lo’ak” Neteyam jumps onto Lo’ak tackling him and ticking him until he surrenders which take a few minutes considering how stubborn he is. When the night goes dark everyone lays in the same hammock Jake holding everyone securely. He has to feel everyone touching him to ensure they are safe before he can truly fall asleep and stay that way. Jake letting Kiri, you and Tuk braid his hair and put beads in them. Eventually Lo’ak and Neteyam will cave and ask their sisters and mother to fix their hair. All the children watch their father burn food when you’re out on a hunting trip. Jake extinguishes the fire and then tells all the children to come close to them, he bends down and tells them “to never bring this up to your mom”. Kiri will stick her tongue out at him and the rest of the children will laugh leading to Jake chasing them all around and holding them close. Family Ikran rides through the air everyone discussing how hard they banked to the right. Neteyam finding everyone in his family matching stones to symbolize “sullys stick together”. Self defense classes with Jake and Neteyam always winning at fights.

── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──
You always were an “odd” kid they’d say. You weren’t necessarily different you just didn’t follow the quota — free spirited in a sense. You never let anyone talk down to you and you didn’t care about people’s feelings towards you, it never seemed to bother you. You also were 100% admit about boys, you swore to yourself at age 6 that’d you never get a boyfriend or mess with boys and you followed that to heart.
“WHAT?!” you yelled at your mother and father as they told you and your siblings that y’all would be moving. You knew about everything that previously happened but you know you thought y’all would pull through. You stomped your foot and your tail swayed angrily, “this isn’t fair, all we’ve known is the forest” you said gritting your teeth. “i know i know baby-” jake said before you cut him off “where would we even go??” you said crossing your arms.
Your siblings were visibly upset but you spoke your mind — as always. “stop.” your dad said firmly and you sighed and looked to the ground in silence. “we are being targeted and we cannot risk anything”.
Then the next thing you knew y’all arrived to a water village, you and your family landed and hopped off. Y’all were tired and desperate even you, but you’d never show it. Among the crowd 3 boys came out and eyed your family, you snarled as they circled y’all. Your fraternal twin— neteyam smacked the back of your head and you death glared him while rubbing your head. Your father and mother talked to the clan’s leaders, and the boys made fun of y’all.
Then the tsahìk insulted your brother “they have demon blood!” and you saw red, “we’re no different than you” you grumbled holding back. You knew how badly y’all needed this but you couldn’t just let them disrespect you and your family.
After they talked they decided to teach us, or technically their son ao’nung and daughter tsireya. You definitely didn’t want to learn from the asshole bully, but your dad told you otherwise and you have been pushing your luck recently. So you complied and held your tongue for your family — for your people.
You prefer tsireya over ao’nung by a landslide, you didn’t understand how she turned out so nice and her brother is just…him. They had been teaching y’all how to become better divers, finger talk, and all about their culture.
Then one day you and kiri were on the shore and you were looking for seashells as kiri was looking at a hole in the sand. You were a little bit away from kiri as you saw ao’nung and rotxo and you immediately ran over but it was too late. “he said are you some kind of freak?” rotxo said laughing looking at ao’nung. Then you grabbed kiri’s hand “speak for yourself fishy” you growled.
“Oh look it’s big sis coming to protect little sis” ao’nung teased “damn straight” you spat as you put kiri behind you. They circled y’all “you aren’t even true navi! look at your fingers!” you smiled and flicked him off — like your brother neteyam you had 3 fingers. “suck on that bitch” you laughed “maybe you have normal fingers but your sister doesn’t”. “doesn’t matter” you snapped eyeing him up and down.
The sight of him enraged you, you never have met someone so rude and so cocky. “look at them they have baby tails!” rotxo laughed “hey!” you heard lo’ak come to y’all’s “rescue”. You clenched your jaw as they made fun of him too and then neteyam came in and told them to basically fuck off and they did — ish. “they’re all freaks the whole family” they whispered and lo’ak whipped his head around. You knew exactly what was going to happen and you sighed mentally preparing yourself for a fight.
Then lo’ak punched ao’nung and you snorted “it’s called a punch bitch!”. Then all hell broke loose and you jumped into the fight, punching, scratching, and biting. Then your hair got pulled by ao’nung “let go fucker!” you yelped and lo’ak and neteyam got him off you. Kiri just sat and watched rolling her eyes as she watched her siblings fight.
Eventually y’all tired out and y’all looked rough — your hair was a complete mess and you and your brothers had matching busted lips and bleeding noses. Then big boss found out…”i tell y’all to do one thing!” your dad yelled. “stay out of trouble” y’all said in unison, “yes exactly and you can’t even do that!” he said looking at all of y’all as your head hung low. Your dad looked at you in the eyes “now i except this shit from those two knuckleheads but you— no ma’am you’re better than this i’m disappointed”.
Your heart sunk and tears threatened to fall, you hated when your dad said he was disappointed. You could handle him being mad, but disappointed was different. “yes sir” you said clutching your hands into fists. “go apologize right now” you immediately whipped your head up and was about to talk back before your dad held his hand up “i don’t care just go make peace”. You grumbled as you walked off and neteyam stayed behind a little then joined you and lo’ak.
“he wants peace? i’ll give him the fucking ocean” you laughed.
As more time passed the more you fucking hated ao’nung and his face, his stupid smirk, head tilts and looks, the way he looked at you is what you hated the most. It felt like he was eating you with his eyes and it made you uncomfortable. You didn’t know how to handle these emotions, they were too much. Especially because they were about a boy — a stupid ignorant boy.
“hey freak keeper” ao’nung called you, “what do you want?” you groaned as you were weaving a necklace. “oh nothing just wondering where your freak siblings are” you gritted your teeth and looked at him in the eyes. You saw he was smirking— then it clicked. He was doing this to get a reaction out of you. You calmed yourself down and stood up, “i don’t know why your obsessed with me and my family” you said condescendingly. “but you need a new hobby dear” you chuckled hoping he’d feel stupid.
Little did you know your words hit his heart and made him blush lightly. He didn’t know why that got him, he thought you were equally a freak.
“yea whatever” he said before walking away defeated.
More incidents similar to those kept happening and it became a game to you, you starting hoping you’s see ao’nung so you could make a fool out of him. Or maybe you wanted to see him for a different reason? You were also oblivious to the eyes on you — constantly.
You arrived late to dinner and there wasn’t many people left. You sat down and ate at the campfire, you scanned who was around and saw ao’nung by himself. You quickly looked away shoving fish into your mouth, you hoped he didn’t see you. Although it was too late ao’nung was staring hard. He was looking how your skin was glowing at night with the fire light. He felt his face burning and his heart racing — he knew he shouldn’t and that made him want you even more. He thought you were a freak, but your freak ass had him falling.
You felt his eyes on you and you got up and left to go eat by the water. “hey!” you groaned and turned around with your mouth full. “wha?” you said “ew don’t talk with your mouth full” ao’nung said scrunching up his nose. “bleeehhhh” you said sticking your tongue out with your food and he freaked out making you laugh so hard you started choking on your food and ao’nung laughed while hitting your back and then you were fine.
Y’all kept laughing trying to calm down “you s-shouldve seen your face!” you laughed, “I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO DIE!!” he said flustered. You slapped his back and held onto him as you kept laughing trying to calm yourself. “oh my that’s so funny” you said finally done with your fit of laughter. Your cheeks were sore from smiling, and you noticed he was staring. He was blushing and you felt your cheeks burn “what?” you said fixing your hair.
“nothing” he smiled shaking his head “i gotta go but i’ll see you later yea?”. He was being nice and it was — suspicious. Then he walked away and your heart skipped a beat, ‘no nun-uh absolutely not!’ you thought to yourself. You gently slapped your face to bring yourself back “absolutely not” you whispered to yourself before walking to bed.
You tossed and turned in your bed not being able to sleep, you groaned and sat up. You only had one thing on your mind and it was driving you crazy — ao’nung. You got up and walked to the beach and sat down in the sand and looked up at the stars “eywa why me, you know i don’t like messing with boys…but if it’s you that i dunno brought him to me then i can’t ignore you but i’m scared…” you sighed playing with the sand. “scared of what?” you jumped and turned around “jeez you scared me!” you said to ao’nung.
“What are you doing here?” he said tilting his head to the side, “i could ask the same thing” you said looking up at him. He then sat beside you and y’all looked out at the water, the moonlight was illuminating y’all. “Ao’nung..” you trailed off “yes?” he said turning his head looking at you and you brought your head up looking at him. Your face went red and your heart was racing “you..fuck uh” you said looking away covering your mouth. He chuckled “come on spit it out” he said lightly nudging you.
“It’s complicated…” you said bringing your knees to your chin. “I’m listening” your heart swelled ‘tell him’ you thought. You were so scared of these new feelings, and you were even more scared to say them out loud because once you did that meant they had to be true. You inhaled deeply before saying “AO’NUNGITHINKIMIGHIKEYOUIDON’TKNOWTHISISMYFIRSTTIMEHAVINGACRUSHANDI’MSCAREDYOUDON’TFEELTHESAME!” you quickly said before burying your face into your hands to hide your bright red blush.
Ao’nung blinked 3 times before smiling and laughing “what are you laughing at?!” you said almost crying. He saw and immediately stopped and held your face “nonono i’m sorry! i do feel the same, it’s just you’re too cute” he said kissing your cheek. A tear rolled down your face and he freaked out and you laughed wiping it away. “I’m glad you feel the same because if you didn’t i think i would’ve drowned myself” y’all both laughed. Ao’nung then softly smiled and grabbed your hand “i promise i’ll do my best to make you happy and protect you”.
You smiled and cupped his face with your other hand “i don’t need saving but i appreciate it” you said kissing his forehead. Then you scooted close up to him and laid your head on his shoulder listening to the sounds all around y’all.
“Now what?” he said “shush just stay here with me and look at the stars dummy.”

Rotxo x Male Omaticaya OC (AWoW Spoilers)
Tesayo had flown so long that he wasn’t sure he would ever catch up to the Sully’s having only found out where they had gone a day before he left.  It had been weeks since they left and Tesayo decided that he missed his brother Neteyam too much to stay in the forest.  They had been friends for fifteen years of his seventeen-year life and he couldn’t just let him go.  He had gotten word from listening in on a conversation Norm was having with Tarsem, the new olo’ektan. They had fled to the Metkayina clan on a distant reef across the ocean.  Norm had been mentioning it after a trip there to help Kiri.  Jake had taught him how to read some of the tools the sky people used and after hearing the conversation Tesayo snuck into Norm’s gunship to get the flight path of where he’d gone.  He had taken his Ikran, Acala, the next day and set flight.  The trip was long and dangerous, there were few spots to rest over the water and the weather had not been favourable.  He could feel through tsaheylu that the Ikran was tired and starting to protest the flight, he rubbed the back of its neck as they flew on trying to comfort him.
“Easy Acala, I know you are tired.  We will rest soon,” he spoke softly.  The winds were starting to pick up again and it eclipse was starting.  The pattern on Acala’s back lit up as the sun began to hide.  The wind brought the rain and the Ikran’s body was slick, lightning struck the water nearby startling the Ikran.  It struck again in quick succession startling Acala and it threw Tesayo from its back.  Fear hit hard as he fell from the sky toward the water, Acala dove for him but missed just as Tesayo hit the water.  He took a breath before he was forced under by the heavy current, he hadn’t spent much time in the water but considered himself an above-average swimmer.  Tesayo kicked at the water unsure where to even go he could hear Acala’s screams over the wind as he pushed himself above water. The current quickly became too much for him as he struggled with nowhere to go.  He at one point had caught a glance of three large stones sticking up out of the water but knew he would never make it swimming.  One last crash was all he remembered before losing consciousness.
Tesayo opened his eyes to find himself inside a hutch, it was relatively quiet and he could hear the sound of the ocean around him talking in the distance.  He sat up slowly and took a look around.  There was no one in the small hutch with him, he could see there were two other beds present and a fire pit in the centre of it.  His head hurt and his mouth tasted strange, he could tell he had swallowed a lot of water and his body was aching all over.  His first thought was of Acala and he hoped he had made it to land along with him his second was to find out where he was.  He grunted as he stood up slowly realizing his abdomen had been bandaged with a plant not familiar to him.  He could feel the gash underneath so he left it be as he staggered out of the hutch. The warm sun hit his face and the heat felt nice after what he had endured getting here but he found the light blinding.  He stepped out of the hut and what he expected to be a solid surface seemed to bend under his feet he quickly lost his balance and cried out in pain.
“What are you doing?  You shouldn’t be up yet, you’re hurt,” said someone from behind. Tesayo rolled on his back as the voice reached for him.  A turquoise-skinned, green-eyed Metkayina boy with short curls and a broad nasal ridge picked him up and walked him back into the hutch.  “Tsahik Ronal says you should rest for today.”  The boy walked Tesayo over to one of the beds and helped him sit. “We found you washed up on shore at three brothers rock,” he explained.  “The rocks there are sharp, it cut you up badly.”  The boy placed a gentle hand on Tesayo’s side.  “The wrap will help it heal quicker the pain should be gone in a day or two.”
“I see you brother thank you,” said Tesayo, “I am Tesayo of the Omaticaya clan.  What do I call you?”
“I am Rotxo, and I see you. Eywa smiled at you, you are lucky Aonung and I found you.  We weren’t supposed to be out there.  Tonowari forgave us because we found you.”  Rotxo sat down beside him.  “Why did you come all this way?  Are you looking for the Sullys?”  Tesayo’s eyes widened at the mention of the name.  He had been distracted by the pain.
“Yes are they still here?” asked Tesayo, urgently. He sat forward to stand but the pain in his side quickly stopped him.
“Yes.  They are Metkayina now.   They’re staying here,” said Rotxo.
“I didn’t come here to bring them back.  I came to find Neteyam.”
“Oh…”  Rotxo lowered his head and looked away. “I’m sorry Tesayo, Neteyam is dead.  He was killed in a fight with the sky people only a few days ago.  He is with Eywa now.”  Tesayo could feel his heart sinking in his chest.  “They attacked our Tulkun trying to find JakeSully.  We had to fight to save them and…”  Rotxo stuttered and tears seemed to come from nowhere as he looked at the two other beds in the hutch.  “My parents were both lost in the fight as well.”   Tesayo felt tears well up in his eyes too as the two of them sat quietly.  His heart hurt thinking that Neteyam was gone and remembered the pain of losing his parents. He knew how Rotxo felt. Tesayo fought through the pain of both his body and his heart to sit closer to the young Metkayina and took his hand.  Rotxo looked at their hands then up at Tesayo tears streaming down his face.
“I’m sorry about your parents, the sky people took mine as well,” said Tesayo.  The boy brought an arm up and put it around Tesayo and they held each other close finding comfort in their shared loss.

Okay so I have seen some people question Ronal’s decision to ride into battle while pregnant, saying that it’s reckless or dangerous. And here’s the thing:
THAT’S!! THE!!! POINT!!!
Pregnant women HAVE fought in wars before and continue to find themselves in hard situations today! When you see a pregnant woman fighting to end slavery or refusing to give up her right to religious freedom, you KNOW the system/situation is messed up beyond typical repair. It’s a sign that things are REALLY bad.
Cameron himself said that AWOW is a movie centered on family. For Ronal, not only did she lose her spirit family (Ro’a and her calf) to poaching, but she also understands the relentless threat of the RDA’s colonialism. And on top of that, they kidnapped her daughter! She KNOWS that if this continues, her unborn child will be brought into the world that is not safe for them!
So!! Yeah!! Ronal is feeling desperate and pissed and she is going to kick ass while pregnant to get shit right again!! When the most vulnerable of people put themselves on the line to fight for their very existence and safety, that’s how you know things are crap.
Cameron KNOWS this, and that is why it’s in the movie: to highlight how much Ronal (and the rest of Pandora) have to lose. And how much of a choice they don’t have EXCEPT to fight back, no matter their situation.
The whole point of the movie was to say “there is no point in running from conflict, you have to face it head on now if you want to make it out alive.”
And FYI, even outside of battle, pregnant women deserve representation too. Tonal was a leader, a healer, a friend, and more while pregnant. Too many pregnant characters on TV and in movies end up being sidelined and there are too few exceptions. Let people like me have a kick ass pregnant momma to look up to.

Just got back from my second viewing of Way of Water. I cried more the second time. ;_;
That said, despite the extra tears I am now feeling a little better about the movie overall. On my first viewing Neteyam’s death tore me up so badly that it was really hard to focus on any of the other aspects of the movie after the fact. Seeing it a second time helped remind me that I am emotionally fine through like 90% of it and that there’s still plenty there to just relax and enjoy. Neteyam’s death, funeral, and the ending scene where Jake and Neytiri visit his memory at the spirit tree still absolutely ripped my heart out (like I said, I cried more on this round), but I don’t feel as strong a cloak of depression weighing over the film as whole now.
basically: still heartbroken but now better able to appreciate the positives. so...that’s good, I guess ^^;
