Finished my first weaving project on the loom I got for my birthday
It's pretty rough (like my poor edges at the start are a mess) but it's nice to get back into weaving

Now that I have the table loom home and set up, I need to remember how to calculate warp.
I have all this acrylic thrift store yarn that looks like a good choice for making a sampler of patterns
Tumblr media
Not sure how long I want my warp to be because I'm not really 'making' anything here but learning progress.
I figure I can combine a few lengths of the finished cloth to make a blanket or something but idk.
Anyone know how much I have to worry regarding shrinkage with acrylic?
Is it mostly like cotton and can be beaten more tightly or should I be giving the threads breathing room?
Also, do I need to protect my warp with paper when using a table loom like I do with the floor loom or will it be safe without?

Learning how to weave! After a brief attempt at card weaving, I discovered pick-up weaving and immediately switched over to weaving with a heddle. And since I need to make everything as complicated as possible, I'm working on creating my own patterns as I learn.
Still figuring out how to maintain an even tension when I move my set up around. Ultimately, I'll get a loom and that should solve most of my issues. They're a tad wonky, but I'm pleased with my patterns and excited to come up with more! :))

K so not to be dramatic or anything, but there's a free vintage French pattern book available on antiquepatternlibrary so if you like to crochet/weave/make pixel art/tie epic friendship bracelets don't walk- RUN.
It has scenes from aesop's fables! Cherubs doing things! Beheadings! Greek muses! Little farm people! Intricate floral pattern! Goth stained-glass window like patterns! Fun little corner pieces! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee

i couldn't figure out why the tension on the rigid heddle was so bad, nor why it seemed worse every time i pick it up.

i think i've cracked the case.
anyhow, my next big-loom project was going to be tea towels, but now i think it's going to be a cat hammock.
