Bentham is the personification of the expression "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." He did horrible things all his life, the Bentham of the "old testament" was not to be trusted. He was the precursor of ambrosia, the creator of hollows and wights. (I know it was unintentional, especially this second Topic, he had planned a small genocide, and things got out of control)

I conclude by saying that, all Bentham and Abe had was a toxic relationship that only hurt one of them greatly. Bentham broke Abe's trust, made him so ashamed of himself that he ended up leaving Europe and contributed to his separation from his family and girlfriend. Maybe if he hadn't experienced this trauma, Abe would have been a better person. After all, after that he made as many mistakes as Bentham (but thanks to the birds none as bad as Bentham's)

The Bentham of the old testament did so many bad things, damaged the lives of so many people, be it Abe, the hollow victims, the ambrosia addicts, or even the people he kidnapped and turned into living statues, that his sacrifice at the end of the story was the least to make up for all the lives he destroyed.
