“Do you think they’ll like me?” Jacks question breaks the almost silence of the car, one hand sitting on the steering wheel, the other latched with yours on your lap.
“Hmm?” You question, turning your eyes away from the passing trees to the man sitting besides you, his knuckles white as he grips the leather wheel.
“Your family.” He explains, “Do you think they’ll like me?” He questions again, his words making you sputter as your mouth falls open.
“Jack Hughes darling of the hockey world, every teenage fans wet dream, is worried that my family won’t like him?” You exclaim in confusion, a light smile on your face as he shakes his head, moving to pull his hand from yours. “No, I’m kidding.” You yelp, tightening your grip on his, settling your joined hand back in your lap, your other hand coming to cup over his.
“Jack, you’re letting them use your lake house for a rehearsal dinner and you paid for my sister's honeymoon - even if they didn’t like you they’re not gonna bite the hand that feeds them.” You begin, reaching one hand to sweep a loose strand of hair behind his ear, smiling at him softly when he glances your way.
“They will love you, I’ve never seen my family so excited to meet someone before.” You can see some of the tension released from his shoulders as he nods, the car pulling into the ridiculously long driveway of the lake house, more than twenty cars already parked around the house.
“I hope you’re ready for chaos, cause this is going to be like pulling teeth.” You mumble as he stops the car besides your mothers recognizable three door. You finally release his hand before unbuckling your seat belt, sliding out of the car with a long sigh, smoothing out the baby blue fabric of your sundress.
Your sister had insisted on pastel attire to be worn over the weekend, her wedding had to give ‘spring fairy vibes’ is exactly what she had put into the email she sent out. Jack made his way around the front of the car, his hand immediately stretching out towards yours, making grabby motions towards you.
You obliged him, reaching your hand forwards into his, your palms slipping against each other as your hands squeezed together. “Do I look okay?” He asks and you nod, Jack had been adamant about matching as much as possible this weekend, knowing it was something you enjoyed, a light blue linen shirt was tucked into his cream colour slacks, both of you in a pair of brand new white tennis shoes.
“You look great, and they’re going to adore you.” You reassure him, taking in a big breath as you push open the front door to the lake house, the familiar interior putting the two of you a little more at ease.
The two of you stroll into the large house keeping your eyes peeled for the bride and groom, hoping to say quick congratulations to them before being swept into conversation with the rest of your family.
“Well look what the cat dragged in.” A voice says from the kitchen as the two of you enter the room, your sister standing at one of the charcuterie boards, her fiancee close by her side as they both send you large smiles. “You’re only thirty minutes late.” She grumbles, placing her plate on the bench before rushing forwards, her arms embracing you quickly.
Jack releases your hand as you return your sister's embrace, “It’s good to see you.” You hum, hugging her tightly, the two of you releasing as you move over to hug your soon to be brother-in-law.
“And you must be Jack.” You sister coos, standing back with one hand propped on her hip as she glances over your boyfriend. His eyes shoot to yours quickly before returning to your sister, his hands clenched by his side as he waits for her to say something.
“Gracie, leave the poor boy alone.” Your brother in law says quickly, patting you on the shoulder as he shoots you an approving grin.
“Oh who am I kidding, you are a savior, Jack.” You sister steps forwards wrapping her arms around Jack in a friendly hug, squeezing him once more before releasing him and returning to her partner's side.
“I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for the two of us.” Jack tries to wave off the thanks with a shake of his hand.
“Please don’t thank me- it was your sister's idea, I just coughed up the money.” Jack jokes, before quickly adding, “It’s really not a big deal, I hope the two of you enjoy the trip.” Your sister glances between you and Jack with a smile before a gasp escapes her, your eyes catching on a familiar face in the backyard of your boyfriend's lake house, a short blonde attached to his side.
“So there was a bit of a hiccup with the invitations.” Your sister begins and you feel your stomach drop. “We sent Jess an invitation and forgot to remove the plus one option. We were honestly hoping she just wouldn’t respond and we could avoid the whole thing.” Your sister twirls her engagement ring nervously around her finger as she follows your gaze.
“We didn’t even know they were still together.” You brother in law adds quickly, his gaze dropping to the ground quickly as you glare over at him.  Jack watches the encounter in confusion, his gaze following yours as he glances over at the man standing talking with who he recognises to be your mother. “I’m really sorry.” Your sister adds, your head shaking quickly.
“Don’t worry about it, it’s not like they almost ruined my life or anything.” Your sister grimaces at your words, her mouth opening to say something, falling closed as Jack shakes his head quickly
“Why don’t we meet the two of you guys outside, I’m really digging the spread you’ve got out.” He says quickly, giving your sister an easy out, the soon to be married couple rushing out of the kitchen as Jack pulls you over to the fruit platter. He silently grabs you a plate placing your favourite on the light pink plastic.
“I’m waiting for you to explain what was going on inside of your pretty little head.” He says with a clearing of his throat, turning to lean against the counter as you lean against the marble, glaring at the fridge in front of you.
“Jess is my cousin.” You begin, jack nodding intently, popping a grape into his mouth, “She fucked my boyfriend three years ago, right before we met actually. Josh and I lived together at the time, apparently they had been having an affair for months before he broke it off with me.” You take in a deep breath as you add, “I only found out when I got home to all my shit packed in bags and her shoving their engagement ring in my face.” Jack chokes at you’re bland delivery of the biggest betrayal he had ever heard in his life.
He smacks against his chest a few times, trying to swallow down the remainders of the fruit stuck in his throat. “What the fuck.” He exclaims as soon as his throat is cleared.
“Trust me that’s not even the worst part.” You laugh humourlessly, dropping your gaze to the floor. “After he had put all my belongings into garbage bags and as he was evicting me from my own apartment he shared some hard truths with me.” Jack nodded slowly, his heart dropping as he waits for you to finish. “He said he could only ever be with me when he had a few.”
Jack paused before asking, “you’re fucking with me, right?”
You shake your head, a bitter laugh bubbling from your chest, quickly adding “he even said he loved Jess more than me because she was smaller because she made him feel more masculine.” Jack watches you cautiously as you let out a shaky breath, turning your face up towards him with a sad smile.
“I had to live with a friend for weeks cause I had nowhere else to go, she helped me find my apartment in the city, and then I met you so it wasn’t all bad.” You say taking a big bite of a strawberry Jack hands you.
“I understand why you’re so upset.” Jack responds and you shake your head, placing the scrap of your strawberry on the plastic plate.
“It’s not like I have feelings for him or anything and I couldn’t care less about her but sometimes it’s nice to have a little warning before you go face to face with two assholes who hurt you.” You explain and Jack nods, reaching out to smooth two hands up and down your arms.
“You really dated a guy called Josh?” He questions, a shit eating grin spreading across his face, “That’s like the douche-ist name out there.” He adds and you let out a sarcastic chuckle, grabbing a grape off his plate and lobbing it at his face.
“That’s a lot coming from a dude called Jack.” You roll your eyes as his smile grows, his finger pointing at you in approval.
“Touché.” He says quickly, his hand lacing with yours again, his lips pressing a soft kiss against your hair as he whispers, “Let’s go pull some teeth out.”

“So Jack you’re an athlete?” You seventy year old aunty asks as she leans forwards in her seat he hand placed gently on Jack’s arm, her eyes moving over him in a frenzy. Jack had been more than patient throughout the afternoon.
After another very warm welcome from your mother, the two of you mingled with the rest of your family, many of them curious about Jack’s career choice. “Aunt Shel, we’re just going to go grab some refreshments, would you like anything?” You question as you stand from the table, reaching down to lightly pull Jack’s arm from her grip, her head shaking in answer to your question as she moves her attention to someone else further down the table.
“Thank you.” Jack groans as he lets you drag him over to the drink table, his arms wrapping around your waist as he hovers behind you, watching as you pour two cups of lemonade. His head resting on your shoulder as you sip from your cup, his gaze shooting to your right as your body tenses, a high whine of a laugh sounding besides the two of you.
“Oh my, babe look who’s here.” Jack watches as your head turns slowly, a fake bitter grin on your face as you turn the rest of the way to greet the short blonde.
“Jess… I didn’t know you’d be here.” Your voice is close to a hiss. Jack’s eyebrows raise in surprise as he watches the once over you give the smaller girl, turning to the man that steps up to her side, your name falling out of his mouth as glances over you and the man whose arms are still wrapped around you.
“Well when we got the invite in the mail I was just so excited, I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages.” Jack covers a laugh as he watches your cousin reach out to pat your arm, your body tilting so you remain just out of reach. “And Josh was saying how much he missed spending time with our family.” Jack winces as Jess uses the word ‘our’ his gaze finally flickering over to the man standing besides your cousin.
Josh was a pretty average looking guy for the most part, he and Jack were around the same height, Josh having a close shaved buzz cut to contrast to Jack's quickly growing hair. Jack listens half heartedly to Jess’s rambling, his gaze settled on Josh, the man shifting from foot to foot under the scrutiny of your boyfriend's glare.
“Oh, and I don’t think we’ve been introduced yet.” Jess finally turns her attention to the man standing behind you, his gaze shifting slowly from your ex to your flirtatious cousin.
“Oh, I don’t think introductions are needed.” Jack's voice is sharp as he frowns down at the woman, your gaze turning up at him in surprise, his arms moving from around your waist to stand fully beside you, his hand sliding down your arm, his fingers tangling with yours. “I’ve heard more than my share about you.” He says motioning with your joined hands to Jess before adding, “Both of you.”
“Oh all good things I hope.” Jess giggles leaning into the man besides her, his face set in a frown as he shakes her off, glancing back at you.
“Not even close.” Jack responds.
The silence is thick and Jess’s eyebrows furrow trying to understand what Jack is saying, Josh’s frown deepens as he understands right away.
“Well on that note, I think we have some more mingling to do, please excuse us.” You interrupt, tugging on Jack's hand as you begin to walk back towards the house.
“Actually…” You hear Josh call out from behind you, your steps pausing as you wait to hear what he’ll say, “I was hoping we might be able to have a little talk?”
“Bunny, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.” Jack whispers in your ear, lifting your hand to press gentle kisses to your knuckles.
“I know.” You whisper back softly, before turning back around to face your ex. “What do you need to say?” You ask and he looks between his fiancé and you with wide eyes.
“Perhaps we can talk in private?” He asks and you shake your head. “At least can we leave the group?” Josh asks and you look around at the large amount of your family, gathered around the incredibly long table in the center of the backyard.
“Fine.” You agree, pointing to a tree a few meters away from the group. He nods, beginning to mumble something to the blonde besides him who bounces off happily to the rest of the family, you turn to Jack who just nods silently, his face serious as he glances over to your ex.
“I’ll be right here if you need anything.” He grumbles, pressing a kiss to your hairline before releasing  your hand, watching as you stomp over to the tree where your ex is already waiting. You glance over your shoulder once more at Jack, his reassuring smile giving you a hit of confidence.
“Let’s get this over with.” You snarl as you lean one shoulder against the tree, looking Josh up and down with disdain.
“You seem happy with him.” Josh says quietly, your frown deepening as you wait for him to get to the point. “I doubt he knows you like I do though.” Your lips pull tight as you grimace, watching as Josh’s body relaxes a little, joining you in leaning against the tree, a little too close.
“No he doesn’t” You speak, adding “He knows me better, and frankly the person you think you know isn’t me anymore.” You take in a deep breath as you push off the tree. “Why are you even here, Josh? Jess is a ditz so I can understand why she wouldn’t have considered the possibility of not coming but you are unfortunately smarter than that. So why did you come?”
“I came to apologise. I feel horrible—”
“Wrong, try again.” You interrupt, your arms crossing against your chest. “You know what, I actually don’t care.” You laugh, looking over the man once more before taking a step back, “Despite the way you hurt me, I’m happier now then I could’ve imagined and you should be too. I mean you’re getting married to the girl you thought was better then everything I could give you so I’m going to go and be happy with someone who is better then everything you gave me.”
You turn to make your way back to the party, your eyes locking with Jacks as a large hand grips your wrist pulling you back towards him, Josh’s hands on your shoulders turning you around to face him. “I didn’t say we were done here.”
“We are definitely done here, get your grubby hand off me.” You hiss back, your body trying to pull from his grip, his hand tightening on your shoulders.
“I told you I’m not done.” Josh growls again, your hands finally managing to free yourself from his grip, your body stepping back as he reaches for you again.
“This was done a long time ago, buddy.” Your body jumps as Jack's hands land on your waist, pulling you behind him as he steps up towards your ex. Josh looks over Jack's shoulder trying to gain your attention once more, your boyfriend rolling his eyes, his hands raising to shove against Josh’s chest.
“Doesn’t feel so good when it’s happening to you, does it?” Jack grumbles as he shoves at Josh again, your hand reaching out to grab hold of his shirt, tugging on it softly.
“Jack let it go.” You whisper, tugging again to pull him back to you. “Jack, seriously it’s fine.”
“No, it’s not fine.” Jack says, his voice firm as he turns towards you, “It’s not fine that you have to suffer through looking at his stupid face while he prances around a wedding dinner he wasn’t even directly invited to. It’s not fine that he thinks he can be a dick and get away with it. And it’s definitely not fine that he thinks he can put his hands on someone.” Jack is breathing heavily, his frustrations evident on his face as your family slowly makes their way over to your small group, wondering what the yelling is about.
“I’m okay.” You whisper, reaching out to touch his cheek lightly, your thumb rubbing against the soft skin, as his breathing settles, his hand coming up to cup over yours.
“Jack’s right.” Your sister says quickly, “You need to leave.” She directs her comment with a glare at your ex, your family glaring at the man standing on his own besides the tree.
“No, Gracie you can’t do that, how am I meant to get home?” Jess questions pushing out of the group to stand besides her fiancee, the ring on her finger glinting in the sun.
“You can both go.” You sister says before adding, “neither of you are welcome at the wedding tomorrow and frankly I’ll be surprised if you get invited to any family events in the future.” You step closer to Jack, his arm bushing yours as you watch your brother in law step up besides your sister, insisting that they leave immediately.
“We’re gonna go too.” You say quietly to your sister as she turns away from the unwelcome couple, the two of them arguing as they trudge back to the house. “I think we both need a little recharge before the party tomorrow.” You continue, giving your sister a tight hug. She nods, making you promise to be at the hotel at seven in the morning on the dot to help her get ready.
You bid quick farewells to the rest of your family, your mum squeezing Jack extra tight, making him promise to return for every family get together.
“I felt quite masculine back there if I do say so myself.” Jack teases as you walk to the car, your hands twined together swinging between the two of you.
“Don’t even start with that.”
“Are you really okay?” He asks as you both get into the car, his eyes searching your face as you let out a gentle grin.
“More than okay, my macho man boyfriend stood up for me.” You respond, Jack letting out a groan at your choice in words. “Maybe I should change your name on my phone.” You tease Jack, snatching the device from your hands as you pull it from your bag.
“Please no.” He whines, tucking the phone under his leg as he starts the car.
“It was kinda hot seeing you get all macho like that.”
“Dear god, this is going to be a long drive.”

pairing: matthew tkachuk x reader requested: yes / no a/n: i haven't written a long one-shot in awhile but i really like this one! requests are open. word count: 1k
tw: bullying
masterlist ask box
You didn’t usually let it bother you; the whispers, staring, and anything else the other girls did. It wasn’t as bad when Taryn was at a game but those were far and few between lately so you had to endure it by yourself. It was different today though. Maybe it was because you had a fight with Matt before the game and let yourself dive into his comment sections on Instagram on any photos of the two of you. There were always nice ones, but the nasty ones were nasty. You know Matt spends hours reporting accounts and blocking them despite you telling him not to bother. People would find a way to criticize your relationship regardless of how many accounts he blocked.
It was how your argument that morning started. He was eating breakfast while you fed the cat, scrolling through Instagram and frowning. You knew right away what he was upset about and walked to where he was sitting and put a hand on his arm so he would look at you.
“They don’t bother me,” you lied but he shook his head and mumbled something along the lines of "well it should”, so you dropped your hand and walked away. You went to sit down in the living room to watch something and heard him cleaning his plate a few minutes later before he joined you on the couch. He was quiet but didn’t have his phone anymore so you thought that he was done with it.
“I could delete my Instagram,” he said suddenly, as if that was the solution to stopping the criticism.
“That’s ridiculous,” you said. “Wiping yourself from social media doesn’t stop the mean girls. They’re at games too.”
The minute you said it, you winced. You had been pretty good at not letting him know that the bullying was not strictly online. Taryn was nagging you to tell Matt exactly what was happening at games, but you didn’t want him worrying about it. You could ignore the things the girls said and just focus on the game.
Most times.
“What are you talking about? People are saying things to you at games too?”
You shrugged, ignoring his attempts at getting you to look at him.
“Girls like you, okay? They don’t think I’m good enough for you so they make comments.” You hesitated, but told him the same lie you always did. “It doesn’t bother me.”
“I’ll talk to them,” he said and you groaned in frustration.
“Yeah, like a parent confronting their child’s bully. I’ll pass, thanks.”
He argued with you for twenty minutes, saying that it would make things better if he confronted the other girls in the family seating area. It would just make it worse though, you knew it would. So in a moment of frustration, you told him if he talked to them, you wouldn’t go to anymore games.
It was a lie, and you both knew it but the two of you were so annoyed with each other by that point, that he left for the rink early. He still had at least an hour before he should’ve left and it put you in a sour mood. Enough that you considered not going to the game that night, but in the end you pulled on your Tkachuk jersey and made your way to the arena.
That brought you to this moment, listening to one of the girls purposely talking loudly about a bet they had placed on how much longer Matt would put up with you, despite the fact that the two of you had been dating for two years. You’d heard whispers about why he hadn't proposed yet multiple times, but you were able to ignore that because you and Matt had a serious talk about marriage and the fact that you wanted to wait a bit longer.
“He can do so much better,” one of them said and you bite your tongue, knowing that saying something will just feed into their fantasy. You’re not sure exactly what it is, besides their wishes for you and Matt to break up.
“Yeah, I mean just look at her.”
It takes everything in you not to turn around and say something to them but the game ends so you get up and leave. You’re not sure if Matt knows that you came to the game because you hadn’t texted him so you go down to meet him near the locker doors. The security guy nods when you flash your ID but you come down here so often that he knows you.
The Panthers lost, so you know Matt will be in a crooked mood but you still want to see him. While you’re waiting, the guys slowly trickle out of the locker room, nodding at you.
Finally, Matt walks out and stops short when he sees you. He wasn’t expecting you to come to the game tonight at least because of your fight so you give him your best attempt at a smile.
There’s a ten second pause before he walks over and wraps his arms around you and holds you gently. You’re pretty sure you stand there for at least five minutes before you pull away.
“I love you,” you tell him. “I love that you’d delete all your social medias, that you’d give the mean girls a lecture, and that you spend hours blocking and reporting accounts that say mean things about me.” You kiss him, smiling when he chases after you when you pull away. “But I promise, if it ever gets too much, I’ll tell you. I’m working on ignoring what everyone says, but in the meantime, all I need is you.”
He runs his thumb across your bottom lip and nods. “Okay.”
He pulls you into another hug and you let your head rest on his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.
“Also, I was totally considering slapping one of them silly tonight,” you say and you can’t see his face, but you know he’s grinning.

codename: monster (M)
Tumblr media
PAIRING: Jeno (NCT) + reader (female)
SUMMARY: your life is nothing short of idyllic. you have a perfect house, a beautiful daughter and a loving husband. there’s just one rule - never ask Jeno what he does for a living...
WARNINGS: mild language; recurring dialogue related to pregnancy and baby making; explicit sexual content
NOTES: 11k words; this is part of my villain series, beast mode
You were not a curious person. After all, curiosity killed the cat.
Growing up in Hel, you knew the best way to survive in the world’s most dangerous city was to keep your head down and never make waves.
It also helped to have a powerful husband.
Living in a penthouse apartment high above, you often watched the sunset from the wall of windows in your living room. Hel, despite its penchant for evil and debauchery, was stunning when transitioning from day into night.
But when night fell, you were not to leave the house. Ever. Though she was at her most beautiful, Hel was deadly in the shroud of darkness.
The baby in your arms cooed. You bounced her a little, turning to her with a smile and kissing her cute nose. The two of you watched the city come alive as you did each night, millions of lights of vast colors filling the skyline. You loved how they sparkled in your daughter’s eyes.
A familiar set of beeps - that of someone entering the access code and disabling the security system - made you turn on your heels. Work had kept him later than usual tonight.
“Who is that?” you asked cutely. Juno was already wriggling in your arms. She knew that sound too.
The front door opened and Jeno walked in, locking up behind him before setting his keys and briefcase on the table. The buttons of his suit were open and his normally perfect tie was gone, no doubt tucked into his pocket because he couldn’t stand the damn thing for another second.
You gasped dramatically and said, “Is that Daddy?”
Your daughter was unglued, making a dizzying array of excited noises and jumping in your arms. It was only a matter of time before she was able to rush over to him on her own two feet. Your baby was growing so fast.
Jeno grinned the moment he laid eyes on his girls and marched over to you, taking Juno in his big hands and covering her face in kisses.
You smiled as he lifted her over his head with ease and brought her down to kiss her chubby cheeks over and over again. She was giggling and squealing all the while.
Jeno gave her another kiss before cradling her to his chest and meeting your eyes. He looped an arm around your waist and pulled you close, greeting, “Hello, beautiful.”
“Hi, handsome,” you said, leaning into your husband as he kissed you.
“How was your day?” Jeno asked, stealing another kiss.
“Perfect. How was yours?”
He grimaced a little. “Hard.”
You weren’t surprised given the late hour he had finally come home. “Oh…,” you hummed softly. Then, a wry smirk played at your lips. “I’ll make it better.”
Jeno chuckled darkly. “I’m sure you will.”
You practically melted when he kissed the corner of your mouth.
Jeno carried the baby into the kitchen and set her carefully into the high chair. You had dinner hot and ready, as you always did. It was the least you could do, considering how hard he worked. Jeno would try to feed Juno whilst eating his own meal, only for you to fuss at him that his food was getting cold because he was so distracted by every little cute thing she did.
Juno loved when he pretended the spoon was an airplane and Jeno loved spending every spare minute with her. You would find yourself staring at them, wondering how you had been so lucky to find a man that was not only a great husband, but an amazing father.
Since you spent the days with Juno, you were happy to let them have the evenings together. Jeno, despite working all day, had plenty of energy left for his baby girl (and for you after she went to sleep). He cleaned her up after dinner, read her a story or two, and tucked her into bed with one final kiss to her brow, not leaving her side until his daughter was sound asleep.
After tidying up the kitchen, you took a seat on the couch and relaxed until Jeno finally joined you. He sat down and grabbed your legs, draping them over his lap, and said, “Thank you.”
You tilted your head. “For what?”
His eyes were full of stars. “She’s a wonder.”
You smiled from ear to ear, warmth spilling into your chest from your heart. “She’s pretty great, isn’t she?”
“The best.”
You took his hand from your thigh and brought it to your lips to kiss across his knuckles, affectionate. “Thank you for giving her to me,” you told him softly. “And for giving us this life.”
Jeno leaned in to kiss you. “You’re welcome.”
You slipped your arms around his shoulders, tugging him close as you met him the rest of the way, sealing your lips to his. After all these years, he was still the only person you desired in the whole world. The only one who ever made your heart flutter and race.
Jeno could kiss you for hours. His hands kneaded at your hips and roamed around your waist. You were so warm and soft beneath his fingertips, fitting perfectly against him. A tiny groan rumbled in his chest when you darted your tongue into his mouth.
You broke from the kiss, blinking to clear the daze in your eyes, and giggled at the distant look on Jeno’s face like he was just shy of heaven. “I’ve been thinking,” you started.
“About what?”
“She’ll be a year old soon.”
Jeno pinched the bridge of his nose, as if he’d just gotten a sudden headache, and whined, “God, she’s growing so fast.”
You nestled deeper into his lap. “I think maybe it’s time we…,” you trailed, biting your lip. “Gave her a little brother.”
Jeno’s gaze flickered and he arched a brow. “Yeah?”
You nodded.
Fire and lust consumed him in the blink of an eye. You could see the familiar change in his expression and it made your pulse pick up speed. Jeno glanced down at your body in his lap and brushed his fingers over your bare knee.
“You’re ready?”
You nodded again. “I am.”
Jeno tightened his arms around you and brushed his lips over your jaw. “Are you asking me to fuck you raw?”
You sucked in a breath when he kissed over your racing pulse. “Yes.”
His voice dropped to a husky growl. “Are you asking me to come inside you?”
“Yes,” you whimpered, tipping your head back as he nibbled the base of your throat.
Jeno gathered you in his arms and hoisted you up with him, popping your legs around his waist. You clung to his shoulders and trailed impatient kisses up his thick neck, winding your fingers into his hair.
Your heartbeat traveled down between your legs. He made you feel like a creature of need and passion, like it was all you were capable of when you were with him.
Jeno lowered you to the bed and draped himself over you. He kissed you deeply, touching the most intimate parts of you with his rough hands. He parted from your lips just long enough to groan, “Fuck, I can’t wait to see you carrying my baby again.”
You hummed, because your voice wouldn’t work. Your face was hot and your mouth watered. He turned you on to the point of madness. Especially when he took off his shirt and you got to feast your eyes on his perfect form, running your fingers over his chiseled abs and chest.
Jeno kissed his way down your body, over your clothes, and dropped to his knees at the edge of the bed. He hurriedly stripped you out of your pants, kissing and nibbling at your sex over your underwear before finally taking them off and tonguing between your folds.
There was something about such a powerful man getting on his knees for you that made you lose what was left of your goddamn mind.
You moaned and pressed your hands into his bulging biceps, his arms hooked around your thighs. Your breaths came faster and louder as he swept his tongue in circles around your clit, stopping only to pump his tongue into your dripping cunt.
Jeno met your eyes and said, “Get naked,” before burying his face back in your pussy.
You tugged off your shirt, but you hesitated at your bra, ever reminded of your breasts that were big and swollen with milk.
“Bra off,” Jeno commanded, biting the inside of your thigh for effect. He was all too familiar with your hesitation. Your husband had loved watching your body change to grow and nurture his baby, and absolutely despised society for telling you to be insecure about it.
Jeno never told you, but he was surrounded by men that openly bragged about fucking their side pieces after their wives had given them children, and he loathed them for it. He’d been there through every minute of your pregnancy, was at your side for the birth of your beautiful baby girl, and knew he would love no woman but you for as long as he lived.
The disrespect made his blood boil and he converted that rage into fuel where you were concerned. If he had to worship your body every single night until you loved yourself as much as he loved you, then that’s exactly what Jeno was going to do.
You hummed when Jeno took your hands in his, lacing his fingers through yours, and brought them to your breasts. He kissed and sucked at your clit, smirking when you clamped your thighs on his head. You started making more noise, turning your head and trying to keep the sounds at bay.
Jeno flicked his tongue over your bundle of nerves, still gripping your hands and your breasts, anchoring you to him and him to you. He smirked at your body undulating beneath him, hips bucking into his mouth then shying away when the stimulation on your clit became too much.
“Jeno,” you stammered out breathlessly, lifting your head before dropping it back on the mattress. “I don’t wanna come yet. Please, baby.”
“Hm?” Jeno mumbled, lapping at your perfect pussy. He fucking loved the taste of you. His and only his. “You don’t wanna come?”
“Not until you’re inside me,” you told him, squeezing his hands. “I wanna come with you.”
Jeno chuckled against your folds, pressing wet kisses to the inside of your thigh in reward. “That’s my good girl,” he growled, sinking his teeth into your flesh. “Only wants to come on my cock when I put a baby in her.”
You nodded, a whine escaping you when he kept tonguing at your folds. Then, you breathed out in relief when he released your hands and stood up at the edge of the bed between your raised legs.
The relief was short-lived, because Jeno teased his hands over your sensitive breasts before reaching between your thighs, two fingers slipping into your cunt while his other hand focused on your clit.
Your eyes widened and you gaped at him, lips parted.
Jeno cocked his head innocently, pumping his fingers in and out of your pussy and rubbing your clit with his thumb. He had your body down to a science and he was very much an expert. “Tell me when you’re right there, baby,” he crooned.
“Fuck,” you moaned, fisting your hands in the blankets beneath you and arching back into the mattress. He was so good at dragging you to the edge and throwing you into one hard orgasm after another. Your pleasure was his pleasure and Jeno wasn’t satisfied unless you were making the neighbors very familiar with his name.
Of course, with the addition of your baby girl, you’d learned to be quiet. And the neighbors were eternally grateful. Though hearing people have sex was the least of one’s worries when living in a city filled to the brim with villains.
Regardless, Jeno would settle for nothing less than your toes curling and your body shaking with what he could do to you.
You always caught yourself wondering how you had been so lucky to find a man that loved you with every inch of his soul. A man that would move heaven and earth to make sure you and your daughter never went without. When asked about his life by others, Jeno never said, “I.” He always said, “We.” And you would just smile at him.
There was no him without you. You were his everything. And he was yours.
“I love you,” you rasped, moaning his name as Jeno worked you to orgasm with his hands.
“I love you more,” Jeno said, withdrawing his fingers when he recognized you at the edge of climax. He propped himself over you and crashed his lips on yours, and you wrapped your arms and legs around him.
Things were a little different since having the baby. Jeno had to prep you more because you were still nursing. Your husband had known the weeks of recovery without sex were harder for you than him, because you missed the intimacy of being entangled with him. And he rewarded your patience with his tongue between your legs every time.
Since then, he’d been wearing condoms until you decided if you wanted another baby or to go on birth control again. Jeno licked his lips at the thought. This would be the first time he could take you without any barriers between your bodies since you were pregnant with Juno. And the memory, no matter how brief it was, of gently making love to you while you were swollen with his baby made Jeno’s cock twitch.
Was it possible to become more in love with someone? Jeno could never wrap his head around it. He fell in love with you all over again when Juno was born, but there were days he felt his love for you grow even more at the smallest of gestures. Like when you soothed him back to sleep after a nightmare. Or the times you nursed him back to health.
Who was Jeno kidding? There were days the mere sight of you smiling at him with that beautiful baby in your arms made him head over heels again.
“Hands and knees,” Jeno ordered, shoving his pants and boxers down around his ankles before kicking them off the rest of the way. His hard cock twitched again at the glistening of your folds and how badly he wanted to slide inside you, raw for the first time in months.
You rolled over eagerly and propped into position, wiggling your ass from side to side in the hopes of enticing him. With the idea of him putting another baby in you, you could feel your walls tightening on nothing, desperate to be filled again.
Jeno slapped his hand on your perfect ass, sending a loud smack through the room followed by a squeak of surprise from you. Though you weren’t totally surprised given your current position. Your husband smoothed his palm over the sting, then teased his fingers between your slit.
“Jeno, please,” you whined like a bitch in heat. “Fuck me, baby.”
Jeno reeled his hand back and gave your sex a firm slap. “Don’t speak again until spoken to.”
You nodded your compliance, shuddering. His dominance did unspeakable things to you.
Jeno grabbed your hips and raked his big cock between your folds, gathering your juices. You fought back a moan until it was a pitiful whine in the back of your throat. He had all the patience in the world while you had none. Jeno let saliva spill from his lips and land on his length, slicking himself up even more.
You gripped the blanket in your fists and cried out when he finally penetrated you, working himself inside until you opened up for him.
“Mm, fuck. That’s my good girl,” Jeno rasped, sucking in a breath through his teeth. “Goddamn. How does it feel?”
The sound you made was pure pleasure. “I missed this.”
Jeno bent over you, caressing your breasts, and whispered, “You missed that raw dick. Didn’t you, baby?”
You arched into his chest, lilting your hips back to take more of him in. And that was answer enough. Your husband smirked at you so eagerly working yourself on his cock.
Jeno pinched your hips and brought you down to meet his thrusts, stroking into you at a pace that had you reeling. The bed creaked with his motions and Jeno toned it down only a little, mindful of the sleeping baby in the next room.
“Fuck,” you cried out, stammering your husband’s name. He was deep in the pit of your stomach. And the things he said while he pounded into you were absolutely filthy.
“Mm,” Jeno hissed, drawing you up, his chest against your shoulders. He coiled his arms around you and cupped your breasts in his hands, kissing his way up the side of your neck. “I’m not gonna last long in this tight pussy.”
You chuckled smugly. “Then, don’t.” He’d brought you so close to orgasm with his tongue and fingers. It was obvious why.
The wet clap of your bodies meeting echoed in the bedroom. Jeno shoved you back to the mattress, pinning his hand to the nape of your neck and slamming his hips into your ass. His eyes rolled back. You were so warm and wet, your walls fluttering around him snug each time he thrust in like your body couldn't get enough of his big cock stuffing you full.
“I’m coming,” you whimpered, lips parted. A moan followed your every breath. “Jeno, please. Don’t stop.”
Jeno had no intention of stopping or even slowing down. His body was running on instinct and need. You kept your hips raised in the air, taking every last inch of him, begging him to fuck you like only he could.
Only he fit inside you so perfectly. You were made for each other.
Jeno clenched his jaw, holding his climax at bay, and got a solid grip on your hips to throttle his cock inside you. He could feel you tensing and squirming, on the verge. “Come for me," he said, and it was not a request.
Your entire body spasmed and clenched. You opened your mouth, but no sound came out as orgasm ripped violently through you. Through the ringing in your ears, you could hear your husband coaxing you down, praising you as he always did.
It wasn't until you went slack that Jeno stopped, keeping himself deep inside you and smoothing his hands over your waist. Your cunt kneaded his cock, dripping with your release.
You turned your head and met his kisses, whispering, "Please. Come in me." Reaching back, you grabbed your husband's hands and grinded yourself onto his stiff cock. "Make me take all of it."
Jeno steered you onto your back and hooked your legs in his arms, pressing you into the mattress beneath his weight. “Fuck, baby," he hissed through his teeth. Your body was too much. "You get me so fucking hard.”
You moaned. He didn’t let up for a second, snapping his hips into yours, plunging his cock into your swollen cunt.
“You’re gonna make me come,” he warned, voice strained.
Fisting a handful of his hair, you purred, “And you’re gonna give me a baby.”
That got him. Jeno released into you with a mangled groan, body shuddering against yours as he painted your insides with his load.
You smoothed your hands down his chest and across his back, coaxing him through it. Arching your hips a little to milk every last drop and prolong his ecstasy, you bit your lip to fight a grin that you and only you got to see him like this.
Jeno slumped onto you, burying his face in your neck. You owned him.
You were content to just lay there with him on top of you, still inside you, and ran your fingers up and down his back, feeling the stress and tension leave him with every passing second in your arms.
Eventually, the two of you cleaned up and got ready for bed. Jeno tucked his body around yours after stealing a scalding hot kiss. “Did I hurt you?” he asked a little worriedly.
You shook your head, lashes fluttering. You could barely keep your eyes open, because both your body and your heart were satisfied. Your husband flexed his arm around you and pressed one last kiss to your temple before settling down at last and drifting off.
Needless to say, you slept like a baby, as you always did in Jeno’s arms. It was hard to explain, but you felt like a princess in the lap of a fire-breathing dragon. And there was no safer place in the world than in a dragon’s clutches.
The next morning, you woke to the usual routine. You nursed your daughter (ever grateful that she had reached the stage where she slept through the night) and prepared coffee and breakfast for Jeno. Though you offered to make him lunch to take with him, Jeno insisted on eating at work, saying you already had your hands full with the baby.
Cooking homemade meals for your husband was your love language and he always showered you with appreciation and gratitude for it. He had a voracious appetite - in more ways than one - and you loved satisfying them all.
As you balanced Juno on your hip, you fought a smirk at the ache between your thighs still lingering. You wondered how long before your stomach started to swell. The thought of being pregnant again excited you. Both you and Jeno had siblings, and you wanted the same for your daughter.
Juno was a little disheveled from such a good night’s rest and a full belly of milk, and clung to you with her head on your shoulder, which did nothing but melt you on the spot. She watched you make breakfast and you narrated everything you were doing to her in your softest voice.
Jeno walked out of the bedroom, tying his tie and mumbling under his breath the list of things he needed to get done at the office.
You licked your lips. Seeing that man in his tailored suits made you want to jump him then and there. For the sake of the baby on your hip and the big plate of breakfast that would get cold, you did not. “Hi, Daddy,” you greeted playfully.
Jeno shot you a knowing look with a smirk and pressed a kiss to your lips before stealing the baby from your arms. “Good morning, Juno. Did you sleep well?”
Juno, at this stage, could only make her adorable baby sounds. And the occasional Mama or Dada.
Jeno always pretended to understand her perfectly and responded, “That’s good. Are you helping Mama make breakfast?”
You handed Jeno his mug of hot coffee, which he took with a thank you.
“Alright, my girls,” Jeno said after finishing his breakfast, leaving kisses on you and your daughter’s cheeks. “I’m off to work. Behave yourselves.”
You giggled when his hand reached down to give your ass a squeeze.
Jeno turned and met your eyes, speaking for your ears only, “Don’t worry over last night. It will happen when it happens.”
You nodded. He knew you too well. “I’m excited,” you whispered with a smile.
“Me, too. You’re an amazing mom.”
You flushed, rising to your tiptoes to kiss him one more time.
Jeno left and you carried Juno into the bedroom so the two of you could get dressed to go to the store. It was errands day and you liked to get started early in the morning while most of the villains caught up on sleep from a night of chaos.
At the supermarket, you kept your baby girl in a koala carrier tucked closely to your chest. It may have seemed excessive to everyone else, but not to you. She was your whole world.
“Alright, Juno,” you said, pushing the cart in front of you. “What should we make Daddy for dinner tonight?”
She peered up at you curiously, as if she really wanted to help.
“How about stew? You both love that.”
Juno made no sound of agreement, but kept looking around at the endless items on the racks.
You weren’t surprised she didn’t sound off on the suggestion. Though for the past few months she’d been showing more interest in foods, your daughter preferred milk for the most part. Jeno was making a point of letting her taste almost everything he had to eat. Her favorite snack was mashed up bananas thus far.
With that in mind, you stopped and grabbed a few more jars of baby food, wanting her to at least try every flavor. She didn’t like baby food much, with most of it rolling down her chin as she subtly pushed it out of her mouth with her tongue. Still, you were fixated on making sure your daughter got all the nutrition she needed.
Juno cooed loudly and stared up at you with her big beautiful eyes. Her father’s eyes. You leaned your head down to nuzzle her nose with your own, making her squeal with delight. It was unreal how much love you had for this tiny human.
Your trek through the supermarket continued, mundane as ever. Until things kept appearing in your cart that you hadn’t grabbed.
Brows furrowed, you walked around to the side of the cart and grabbed a box of fruit snacks. Weird, you thought, circling a few steps to put them back. There was no way you had thrown those into the cart. Neither you or Jeno liked fruit snacks and Juno couldn’t properly chew them yet.
Down the next aisle, you grabbed a loaf of bread and when you turned around, a box of pastries was in the cart. Okay, you definitely didn’t get those. Returning them to the empty space on the shelf, you glanced around, your arms cradling the baby tucked to your chest.
“That’s enough shopping for today,” you told your daughter.
She simply looked up at you, having no clue as to what was going on.
You paid for your groceries and loaded them into the back of your SUV. Then, you buckled your baby into her carseat and headed home.
For whatever reason, you couldn’t shake the thought from your head that maybe you were imagining things or possibly going crazy. Thanks to your husband, you didn’t exactly get a full night’s sleep, but you weren’t complaining in the least about that.
Maybe you were overtired. Exhaustion was obviously common among parents with babies.
Back in the safety of your penthouse apartment, you went about your day as normal. When you got pregnant with your daughter, Jeno offered to be the sole breadwinner and let you be a stay at home mom for as long as you wanted, and you eagerly took him up on the offer. You loved being a mom and raising your baby.
Though she was still very young, you spent an hour or so every day working with her on the alphabet. You could tell Juno was smart; she already tried to follow along when you or Jeno read to her.
“J-U-N-O,” you spelled aloud, moving the letter blocks in front of her. “That spells Juno.”
Juno made her cute little noises, her chunky hands grabbing at the blocks.
You left her there on the living room floor for just a moment, stepping into the kitchen to turn off the beeping toaster oven. You’d almost forgotten you were making yourself a bagel. She was such a precious distraction.
When you walked back over to your daughter, you dropped your plate and it shattered into pieces on the floor.
Juno was looking aloft and the four blocks that spelled her name were hovering in a perfect crescent in the air. Then, the moment your plate crashed to the floor, your daughter turned abruptly and the blocks fell before her.
You blinked rapidly. Had you really just seen that?
No, no, no. Your heart sank deeper into your chest. Absolutely not. Your daughter couldn’t have powers. Neither you or Jeno had powers and it took at least one parent to pass them on.
Tears gathered in your eyes. Villains would come looking. Even worse, heroes would come knocking, trying to recruit her.
Or wanting to steal her.
You rushed over and scooped up your baby, the tears running down your cheeks. Juno was unnerved to say the least and she started whimpering, face tensing with sadness and fear at your reaction.
“It’s okay, baby,” you told her soothingly, pulling your phone from your pocket. “I’m gonna call Daddy.”
The phone rang twice and your husband answered with a bemused, “Hello?”
You never called him at work. Not unless it was an emergency, and to date, you hadn't had one before. “Jeno, come home.”
“Baby, I’m working,” he told you a little curtly. Probably because he assumed you were in the mood to try and make a baby with him again.
“Now,” you snapped.
Jeno paused. Never had you taken a tone like that with him and he was downright shocked. “I’m on my way,” he said, hanging up.
You sat on the couch with your daughter in your lap, bouncing your legs up and down with anxiety. Juno seemed none the wiser, content to crawl on you like you were her personal playground.
When you heard the front door beeping, you set your daughter down between her blocks and stood over her, eyes on the door.
Jeno came in and marched over briskly. His eyes were full of panic as he searched you and his child for distress. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
“Your daughter,” you started, pinching your lips together before turning back to the baby sitting at your feet. When she looked up and met your eyes with a little smile, you said, “Juno, baby, show Daddy your trick.”
Your child glanced between you and her father. You could see the gears turning in her head. Then, one by one, she made the blocks hover in the air. This time, she even gave them a little spin.
Jeno watched with no expression on his face as she juggled the blocks with her mind, making them turn in a perfect circle above her head. Growing bored, Juno ultimately commanded the blocks back down to the floor and gave her father an excited giggle, proud of what she had done as if it was the most normal achievement in the world.
You inched toward Jeno, hiding the sheer wrath and terror coursing through your body, and spoke quietly, “She’s a year old and moving blocks without lifting a finger. What will she be controlling at five or ten?”
Jeno said nothing. His eyes were locked to his daughter and she was staring back at him just as fiercely. A silent understanding passed between them. Power recognized power.
You were tearing apart at the seams and the silence only expedited the process. “Jeno…,” you called.
“I heard you.”
“Then, fucking say something,” you hissed at him under your breath. Anger was slowly but surely working its way up your spine.
Jeno said the last thing you expected. “She’s gifted.”
“That’s not a gift. It’s a curse.”
Jeno recoiled like he’d been slapped and rounded on you, stern. “Don’t say that in front of my daughter.”
You braced a hand on his chest and moved him a few feet away with you, making your lowered voices harder to hear for your child. “Do you know what kind of people will target her for this? People will try to take her from us!"
Jeno realized that was what you were worried about and replied levelly, “They would never get past me and you know it.”
You bit your lip. “Jeno,” you started, hesitating. “Are you…”
He visibly tensed before you. “We made a promise. You swore you would never ask me.”
There was only one rule in your relationship with Jeno - never ask what he did for work. Because, as he said, he would tell you. He was honest and couldn’t lie to you. So he chose to lie by omission. If you asked and he told you, you would have dangerous knowledge and in this city, knowledge could get anyone killed.
Shivering with tears, you whimpered, “What am I supposed to do?”
Jeno studied his daughter from the across the room, his chest filling with pride. “Nothing. Life will go on as normal. I will teach her to control it.”
You devolved into tears, hiding your face in your hands. It hurt that you were scared out of your mind and he didn’t seem the least bit bothered. You felt alone and vulnerable, like only you saw and feared the danger.
Jeno softened and gathered you in his arms. “Shh, baby. It’s okay. Come here. It’s alright.”
You choked on a sob. “Don’t let anyone hurt my baby.”
Jeno held you flush against him tightly, kissing your temple and soothing his hands down your back. “I won’t.”
“I don’t care what you are. Just don’t let anyone take her from me.”
That had your husband’s attention. You needed some consolation and reassurance. Jeno took your face in his hands, wiping your tears with his thumbs. “Look at me,” he said firmly. “Look me in the eyes.”
You did.
Jeno’s voice dropped to a low growl. “Whatever monster you can imagine in your head, I am much, much worse. Do you understand?”
You blinked, making more tears cascade down your cheeks, and nodded slowly. A shiver coursed through you. You would remember those words for as long as you lived.
That night, you stood before the mirror in the bathroom and brushed your hair. Having slipped into your favorite oversized tee of Jeno’s to sleep in, you cleaned off your makeup and washed your face.
Jeno was putting Juno to bed, reading her a story no doubt. You wondered what was going through his mind. He stayed home the rest of the afternoon, calling out of work and citing family issues. Juno didn’t exert any of her power again, almost like she sensed the watchful gazes on her.
There was nothing else to be done in this situation. Your daughter had powers, like so many in this city. They went on to become villains or heroes, ever in a duel for control of Hel.
That was a lie. Everyone knew villains were the true masters of the land.
Giving yourself one last scan in the mirror, you weren’t surprised when Jeno came up behind you, smirking like the devil himself, and smoothed his hands around your waist.
“You wanna make a baby?” Jeno asked softly, his breath hot on your neck. He hiked up your shirt, recognizing it as one of his, and palmed your bare skin.
You frowned and turned in his arms to face him. “You could have told me.”
Jeno sighed. “I know.”
“Any baby I give you will have powers. Won’t they?”
Jeno bobbed his head and then shrugged, quipping, “I guess my gene is dominant.”
You smarted, “Just like the rest of you.”
Jeno chuckled.
Damn it, you could never stay mad at him. Leaning back against the counter, hands gripping the edge, you watched him raking his eyes down your body and kneading your hips in his big, powerful hands. No one ever made you feel wanted and loved like Jeno. You would give him your body, your heart and your soul.
At this point, you already had.
Jeno felt your anger dissipating, no matter how warranted it was, and leaned in to trail his lips up your neck. “Tell me what you want,” Jeno whispered, nipping beneath your ear. “I’ll do whatever you want. All you have to do is ask me.”
That sent a shudder through you. You knew he would give you the moon if you asked. Draping your arms across his shoulders, you told him, “I want to have another baby.”
“Alright. I’ll give you one.”
Jeno fucked you there, right over the bathroom sink. He slapped his hips into your ass from behind, keeping a hand around your throat to make sure you never looked away from your reflection in the mirror as he told you again and again how beautiful you were to him. How he would never love anyone but you for as long as he lived.
Release made your knees buckle and Jeno carried you through it, whispering the sweetest nothings in your ear and holding you to him as you shuddered and cried out his name.
There was one last loud slap of your bodies meeting when Jeno stopped and filled you with his seed, his breaths staggering at the way your walls kneaded his cock through orgasm.
Satisfied, your husband slipped his length from your folds, scooped you up into his arms and carried you to the bed. When he set you down on your back, you carded your fingers into his hair and made him look at you.
“You have to promise me,” you whispered, staring up at him with unshed tears in your eyes. “Swear on any gods you or I believe in that you will protect them.”
Jeno spoke like he was committing the most sacred of vows, “The only god I believe in is you and I swear to you, our children will never know fear.”
You blinked. The weight that had been sitting on your shoulders fled at that moment. You could breathe again. “I don’t care what side you are on. Hero or villain, I don’t care. Just as long as you use whatever gift you have to protect my babies.”
“And you.”
You smiled faintly. “And me.”
Jeno propped himself over you and brushed his lips against yours. “Do you trust me?”
“You are the only person I trust in the whole world,” you replied without missing a beat.
“Till the day I die, I belong only to you. I will burn this city to the ground if it ever crosses you.”
You brought him down for a kiss, tightening your legs around his waist.
Jeno took the next day off from work and told you to sleep in. There were bottles of milk in the fridge that you had pumped and knew Juno was in his perfectly capable hands. You stayed in bed until noon, resting your body and your mind in the hopes of conceiving another baby with him.
And for your own sake, you definitely needed that rest.
When you stepped out into the living room, you were surprised to see a person you didn’t recognize sitting on the couch, but your attention flew to Juno.
Jeno glanced up, noticing you come out, and exclaimed, “Mama, are you watching?”
Your heart was about to burst.
Juno was walking. Well, more or less, she was walking with Jeno’s hands gripping her sides to keep her stable. Juno looked to you, her mouth open with the biggest grin she could make.
“We’ve been practicing all morning to show you,” Jeno said, sweeping Juno into his arms and drowning her in kisses all over her face, making your daughter giggle loudly.
You approached them, taking Juno when your husband held her out to you. He knew you would want to hold her the moment you woke up.
“This is Yuta,” he said, motioning to the man sitting on the couch, who had been watching with a smile.
You acknowledged him. “Hi, Yuta.”
“He has experience with… gifted offspring.”
That had your attention. You raised a brow. “Does he?”
Yuta got to his feet and nodded. “Your daughter is very special.”
You looked at Juno in wonder and kissed her cheek. “I know she is.”
Both Yuta and Jeno chortled.
You sombered, turning back to them, and asked, “What do I need to know?”
“Allow her to express her power,” Yuta replied, surprising you. “The more you stifle it, the more it can grow out of her control. But also set boundaries. She needs to know there are consequences for destructive behaviors. For a normal child, the consequences are less serious, but for children like ours, they can be life and death.”
You looked to your baby, who seemed particularly thrilled at being the center of attention if her wide beaming smile was any indication. Jeno was staring at her with nothing short of adoration and reached over to stroke his finger across her cheek.
“Seems so simple and yet so impossible at the same time,” you droned, mostly to yourself.
Yuta continued, “As for the whole hero versus villain argument, let your kid decide for herself which path she wishes to follow. You may find that trying to force her down one road will drive her into the other.”
Those words rang out in your chest and you took them to heart. Your baby deserved freedom to choose and you would make sure of that. Nodding, you gave him a grateful smile and said, “Thank you, Yuta.”
“You’re welcome.”
Jeno walked him out, leaving you with your daughter. You pressed a reassuring kiss to her face and then another, making her coo and grab at you with her hands. Sighing contentedly, you let Juno hold your cheeks between her palms and press a cute kiss to your nose.
Things were a little tense between you and your husband. Understandably so. You could already sense there would be some disagreement. You avoided him a bit, tucking your daughter in for her nap before you decided to talk to him. That way she would be out of earshot.
Jeno came into the nursery, leaning against the doorway as he watched you rub Juno’s back, speaking in that soothing voice of yours, lulling her to sleep.
The moment you closed the door quietly behind you, you asked, “You called in an expert?”
Jeno nodded. “I needed advice and he’s someone I trust completely.”
If Jeno trusted him, then you did too. He never brought people around your daughter except family, which meant Yuta would really have to be held in high regard to be allowed anywhere near your child.
You followed Jeno out to the living room, noting how heavily he dropped onto the couch like the weight of the world sat squarely on his broad shoulders. It was a heavy responsibility, having such a powerful child.
Taking the spot next to him, you molded yourself to his side and brushed his dark hair back with your fingers. “What’s on your mind? Tell me what you’re thinking. Please,” you whispered softly.
Jeno exhaled loudly through his nose. He stared off into the distance. “I’ve tried very hard to hide that part of my life from you.”
“I know and I’m grateful to you for that.”
Jeno ran a hand down his face and said, “Ignorance is bliss. That is what I wanted for you, for our family. I’d hoped and prayed she wouldn’t be like me, but she is.”
You couldn’t resist anymore and so you asked, “You’re a villain. Aren’t you?”
Jeno slowly nodded.
You leaned even more into him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, and comforted when he drew you in and smoothed his hand over your thigh. “Deep down, I always knew.”
“I can’t hide her forever,” Jeno said firmly, finding his resolve. “I have to train her in our ways.”
You blinked in surprise, flinching at the thought. “You want to train her to be a villain?”
“Yes.”
“But… Yuta said to let her choose her own path. She could be a hero,” you reminded him, pulling back a little.
Jeno clenched his jaw and snapped, “My daughter will never be a hero. There is no future for them in this place. They either die as martyrs for a corrupt, abusive system or they die for their selfish sense of justice or savior complex.”
“Jeno…,” you began. This conversation was unnerving you. All your hopes and dreams for a normal life for your daughter - the life you never got to have - were crushed. You imagined a powerful being ruling Hel with an iron fist. Constantly pursued. Endlessly challenged.
So many would want her dead.
Your husband locked his eyes with yours, staring you down. “I won’t allow it. My daughter will never be a pawn in someone else’s games.”
Your lips quivered and your voice shook, because you were on the verge of tears again. “Why can’t she just be a child?”
“She’s too powerful,” Jeno said, then he hung his head. “Like me.”
You clambered out of his lap and turned away, covering your face as tears ran down your cheeks. For a moment, you hated the love of your life, hated him for giving your baby girl his curse and condemning her to a life of villainy and destruction.
It didn’t matter if she became a hero or a villain, she was still your child and you would defend her with your life. Even if she became the most hated enemy of the entire world, the world would have to get through you to reach her.
But your daughter’s childhood was being stolen away right in front of your eyes. She wouldn’t be able to play with other children at risk of hurting them. Would she even be able to go to preschool when the time came or would that be too dangerous?
All that isolation and fear would warp her into something she was never meant to be. Juno was a smiley, happy baby. The day you watched her joy turn to hate would be the day your heart died.
You could never let her become like you.
Jeno reached for you worriedly. He had to remind himself that while he saw his daughter as a perfect, powerful creature, you viewed her as the most fragile glass that could crack at even the slightest touch.
“This won’t happen for many years,” Jeno consoled, wiping your cheeks with his gentle hands. “Of course, she’s a child now. She will have a happy childhood, unlike us, but one day, she will understand what she is capable of and I want her to be strong. I want no one to be able to manipulate her.”
That last part, you could hear a bite in his tone. Something bitter and pained. Sniffling, you asked, “Is that what happened to you?”
Jeno startled. “What?”
“Did someone manipulate you, Jeno?”
Your husband was blank. There was something churning beneath the surface of him, something he had gone to great lengths to hide and keep buried. He stood abruptly, shaken, and said, “I need to go.”
You could hardly believe your eyes, leaping up and watching him stomp for the front door. “Where are you going?” you called after him.
“Out!”
You jolted in place as he slammed the door behind him with enough force it came clean off the hinges and clattered to the floor in pieces.
To say you were furious would be an understatement. Clearly, you had struck a nerve, but you were going to pick that chord until you learned what song it made. The song that could ultimately decide your daughter’s future.
Ignoring the broken door, you went into the nursery and packed Juno’s bag. You gathered your sleeping baby in your arms, apologizing for waking her when she fussed, but the moment she was in the carseat with your SUV cruising smoothly down the streets, she fell right back to sleep.
It was the first time you had ever gone to Jeno’s work. You were under strict instructions never to go there. Nevertheless, Jeno had pointed the building out to you before. Just in case.
The place was rather unassuming, not like the massive skyscrapers that reached the clouds. Whatever type of business was run there, you didn’t know. All you knew was Jeno made substantial money and was a top employee, able to take time off whenever he desired.
You almost laughed. This was the last place you expected to serve as a den for villains. But everywhere you looked in Hel, villains made their mark. Some preferred to work in the dark or where you least expected. Easier to avoid heroes that way perhaps, but most villains didn’t give a damn about fighting it out with heroes. The news was always abuzz with a new battle and the damage that followed.
Ignorance is bliss. You kept hearing those words in your husband’s voice in your head. You weren’t naïve. You had known the safe, luxurious life your husband provided for you and your child came at a cost. But you never questioned it.
You had been through hell. You were willing to overlook things so long as your daughter never had to walk in your shoes.
Today, you would pry. Juno would have what you couldn’t. She would be all that you weren’t. You would make any sacrifice for that without hesitation.
“Mr. Lee, your wife is here,” said the assistant nervously.
Jeno gawked when you walked into his office and exclaimed, “What the hell are you doing here?”
After locking the door behind you, you took off your coat nonchalantly and hung it up on the rack in the corner before answering, “I followed you.”
“Where is Juno?” Jeno asked. One of the few times you had seen him truly afraid.
You marched over to him and said, “She’s with your mother. I’m assuming one or both of your parents have powers to protect her with.”
Jeno nodded, shutting his mouth at that.
You put your hands on your hips and glanced around. The office was dark and minimal. There were no windows to be seen. Jeno was sitting on a brown leather sofa with his legs stretched out. His jacket was thrown carelessly to the floor and he sported only a white tee with his jeans. You could see every bit of the tension in his body.
He was at a breaking point.
You narrowed your eyes in a glare. “God, I’m so angry with you.”
Jeno’s gaze was on your legs. He refused to meet your eyes and that was very telling. “I know.”
“You made me forget who I am.”
Jeno blinked in surprise.
You chewed over your words before finally spitting them out, “Ever since I fell in love with you, I surrendered all of myself to you. It was easier that way. I gave you all the power, because you knew what to do with it.”
“Baby…,” Jeno started, peeking up at you. He couldn’t handle the fury on your beautiful face. It was a searing reminder that he’d failed. He failed at everything he’d set out to do.
To keep you safe. And to keep his baby from turning out like him.
You braced your hands on his shoulders and straddled his lap, earning your husband’s undivided attention. “I don’t have gifts like you or Juno, but I have a strength of my own. I’m a survivor, by any means necessary.”
Jeno forbade himself from getting aroused while this was a very serious and heavy moment, but the weight and warmth of you on his clothed cock was already too much. He figured that was intentional and why you had fucking mounted him the way you had. There was no choice but to submit himself to your mercy.
“You never have to worry about that,” he said roughly, resting his hands on your thighs. “I’ll never let anyone hurt you again.”
You smiled down at him, brushing your fingers over his jaw and lips. “I know. That’s my point. I handed you my reins, but now I’m taking them back.”
Jeno’s brows stitched. “What do you mean?”
You grabbed him by the throat.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Jeno rasped, wrapping his hand around your wrist. He could very easily pry you loose, but he didn’t. He liked how your fingers felt digging into his neck.
“You may rule this city, but I rule you,” you hissed, breath hot on his face.
Jeno groaned lowly in the back of his throat, resonating in his chest. His cock was half hard in his pants now, pressing painfully against the zipper of his jeans. Goddamnit.
You smirked at his pulse racing beneath your thumb and told him roughly, “You may have put her inside me, but I breathed life into her. She’s mine. And you will never raise her to be a villain.”
“It’s for her own safety.”
“No,” you shot back. “It’s for your own trauma and your own need for control.”
Jeno grit his teeth and shifted uncomfortably beneath you. You had figured him out easily.
Maybe because you recognized the same signs within yourself.
You released his throat and carded your fingers into his hair, tugging on the strands and making him meet your eyes. “She’s not us,” you whispered, softening. “She will make her own choices, her own mistakes. It is our job to guide her and protect her, not choose her paths for her.”
Something broke inside Jeno then. He loved you and that little girl so much it made his heart hurt. Tears threatened and he pursed his lips with contempt and emotion. “You don’t understand.”
“Yes, I do. I know there are things in your past that shaped you. Things you can’t even speak of. I have demons like that in my past too. They tried to kill me, but I’m still here.”
Jeno whimpered, “I can’t let her ever go through what I did.”
You smiled at him affectionately, your chest burning at the pain he was in. “Me neither. She will break both of our curses, Jeno. This pain ends with us.”
Jeno’s tears escaped and he wiped at them roughly with his hands.
You pressed a kiss to his lips, feeling Jeno embrace you jarringly fast, like he craved the connection with you to soothe his aching soul. “I love you,” you said, kissing the corner of his mouth.
Jeno said your name. “I love you more than anything in the world,” he breathed, then chuckled. “Except Juno. I’m sorry. She’s the only one that outranks you in my heart.”
You laughed, happy to see his humor breaking through all the tension, and assured him, “The feeling is mutual. And if we do happen to make another baby, they will outrank you as well.”
Jeno smirked, kneading your hips in his hands and looking down at your precarious position in his lap. He could feel the warmth of your folds on his cock despite the clothes in the way and he knew you were undoubtedly aware of the hard dick underneath you.
There was something to be said about the two of you airing out your worries and your pain. Jeno felt lighter, like he didn’t need to be carrying this anvil on his chest everywhere. You had broken it down with a few well-placed jabs. Sure, talking about his trauma and his fear was agonizing, but the pain was a necessary evil to healing.
“I kept thinking,” Jeno spoke up, smile fading. “If I locked you and her away, nothing could ever hurt you both.”
“I know. And I went along with it, because I had the same thought.”
Jeno let his head fall back. Validating his feelings sent a wave of relief crashing through him. He stared up at you in reverence, wondering what he had done to deserve someone that made him whole again. “What happened to you?” he asked gently.
You tilted your head, cradling his face and kissing him deeply. Then, you said, “I’ll never tell you, baby. Just like you’ll never tell me how you got your scars. I don’t want you to ever carry that knowledge.”
“If you tell me who hurt you, I will kill them.”
“I know that, because I would do the same for you.”
Jeno smiled.
You coaxed, “Let’s move on and heal together, Jeno. You and me.”
Your husband relaxed. He could never describe what your words and promises had done for him. Hope filled his chest. The thought that his daughter could go through life without being touched and shaped by evil like he had made more tears prick at his eyes.
Fighting them back so he could focus on you, Jeno said, “I’m sorry I broke the door.”
You snickered. “I forgive you.”
“I called the landlord. He’s fixing it.”
You nodded. At this point, you didn’t care. All you could think about was how badly you wanted him, because you loved him so much it was all-consuming.
Jeno licked his lips and asked coyly, “Should I book us a hotel room for the night?”
“Don’t bother,” you taunted, bracing your hands on his abs. “I’m gonna have you right here.”
Jeno’s eyes flickered, widening. His pupils dilated to bottomless wells of arousal.
You slotted your lips to his and kissed him hard, grinding down on his cock underneath you.
Jeno sucked in a breath between kisses, the warmth and weight of you was too much. He palmed at your hips before grabbing handfuls of your ass, squeezing.
You finally broke from the kiss and met your husband’s eyes, smirking at him with mischief written all over your face. You shivered at how he was looking at you; a mix of enraptured and cocky. The little smile tugging on his lips was like a challenge.
A challenge to replace it with something more... carnal.
You clambered off your husband’s lap and stood between his legs, pulling your shirt up and over your head. Jeno eyed your breasts barely held in the bra and leaned in, running his hands up and down your sides and kissing across your ribs. You were quick to shove him back by the shoulders and drop down to your knees.
Jeno took off his shirt as you started unfastening his pants, growling when you teased your lips and tongue down his happy trail. Your every touch was intoxicating, sending a shudder through his body.
You weren’t satisfied until his pants and boxers were wrapped around his ankles, and you fisted his hard cock in your hand the moment it sprang free. You held his shaft and teased your tongue along the veins, giggling when your husband let out a frustrated groan.
“Fuck,” he hissed, throwing his head back into the couch when you engulfed him in your warmth mouth, hollowing your cheeks and sucking mercilessly on his sensitive tip.
You held him at the base and worked him up with your saliva, peering up at Jeno and feeling your walls clench at the rapture on his face. If you had your way, you would reduce him to nothing in a matter of minutes.
Jeno gathered your hair in his hand, steering you gently up and down his cock. With his other hand, he stroked his fingers over your cheek affectionately and said, “I would die for you.”
You drew back and replied coyly, “I know.” Then, you wrapped your lips around his length again and pressed forward until you’d taken every last inch of him.
Jeno tried to keep eye contact and pinched his lips together in restraint. The gagging, choking sounds leaving your throat each time he sank in were too much and your husband tipped his head back and staggered out a breath.
There was a tightening between your legs and you could feel yourself soaking through your panties. Satisfied that he was extra slick with your saliva, you pulled his cock from your mouth with a pop and clambered to your feet.
Jeno let his hand fall from your hair and reached for your waist, holding onto you whilst you stripped out of your pants and straddled his hips. He watched with bated breath as you steered him into your entrance.
You sank down on him, moaning at the stretch, eyes winched closed. All you could do was rasp his name as your body adjusted around his hard length.
Jeno stared up at you in reverence, a grunt escaping him as he said, “Do you have any idea what you do to me?”
You had some idea given how hard he was for you, but you still liked hearing it.
Bracing your hands on his chest, you rolled your hips back and forth. There was a wet squelch every time he bottomed out inside you, your walls clamping down on him with your movements.
“Fuck me,” Jeno groaned, reeling his hands back and slapping them on your ass. “Just like that.”
With him goading you, you picked up the pace, bouncing up and down on his cock, your ass colliding loudly with the tops of his thighs. It was unreal how good he felt and you made yourself bite your lip to keep your cries trapped in your throat, because you knew you undoubtedly had an unsuspecting audience on the other side of the wall.
“God fucking damn,” Jeno groaned, the air whooshing out of his lungs. You were riding him so hard it downright shocked him.
You were taking pleasure from his body, using his cock to get yourself off, and nothing made Jeno want to come more than that. His hands were heavy on your hips, fingers sinking into your flesh to the point of bruising. You were going to milk every last drop out of him at this pace.
And you did.
The moment you tipped over the edge, riding him wildly at the height of your orgasm, Jeno crushed you in his arms and trapped you to him, emptying inside you with a guttural groan that made you shiver and swear even more.
Jeno was shaking like a leaf below you and you carded your fingers into his hair, his breath hot on your neck. You collapsed on top of him, a tiny noise escaping you when his soft length slipped from your folds. Jeno grasped your knee, hooking your thigh across his waist as he settled back into the couch.
“I know I promised never to ask,” you said shyly, making senseless patterns on his chest with your fingertips. “But please allow me one question.”
“You waited until after draining my balls to ask. I see you,” Jeno smarted, chuckling.
You snorted back a laugh. Then, your face turned somber. “Have you ever used your power on me?”
“No.”
You arched a brow. “You promise?”
He nodded. “It takes all of my strength every second you’re in my arms not to use my power on you,” your husband whispered and you absolutely believed him.
“Restraint is the hardest part of being a villain?”
Jeno looked down, marveling just how good your naked body looked on his. He smoothed his hands down your waist and landed on your thigh hooked over his hips. “I could destroy this city with my bare hands, baby,” he whispered darkly.
You shivered a little.
“You know, I used to look at my hands and see only death. Then, when you gave birth to Juno and I held her, everything changed for me.”
You melted into him. Just the thought of the baby you had made together caused your heart to take off and soar inside your chest.
“I couldn’t believe something so beautiful came from someone as evil as me.”
You cupped his cheek in your hand, turning him to face you, your lips brushing his. “I don’t care what you’ve done. I will always love you.”
“You saved my life,” Jeno confessed in a whisper. “You and that baby girl saved me from my demons. And from myself.”
You smiled.
Jeno kissed the corner of your mouth and said, “She may have my power, but she has your heart.”

series masterlist
Pairing: Eventual Daryl Dixon x f!reader Word Count: 2,289 Warnings: violence, blood A/N: thanks for reading! (also, the timeline between s3 and s4 always confuses me a bit, so just go with it lol) I am still in recovery after surgery, it went well, so updates might be slow for a little while. I can’t even put my laptop on my stomach lol

It had been weeks since your group took in the people from Woodbury. Things were improving every single day after that. The prison expanded its resources, and everyone chipped in. The courtyard had a dining room awning, and flowers and herbs grew. The front meadow held pigs, horses, and crops. A water pump brought water into the prison daily, and with gas coming in from runs, the generators were running from time to time. Hunting parties brought in a circulation of food to feed everyone. While there wasn’t plenty, there was enough.
Newcomers seemed to come in steadily, and a council was formed. You were offered a seat, and while you wanted to decline it, Michonne and Carol talked you into it. They believed you got a voice after all the help you did. And you were family.
Summer was in full bloom. It was nearly a hundred degrees out daily, and even though you hated the heat, you couldn’t find reasons to hate anything. Not with how happy things have been, not with how happy you’ve been.
In the time you’ve been here, you and Michonne have grown exceptionally close. The two of you joined the group around the same time and went through many of the same motions. But she wasn’t the person you were closest to.
“Hey, you comin’ or what?” Daryl yelled over at you.
Your hair was still damp from the shower you had earlier today, and it dripped down on your gray t-shirt. The shower was probably not the best idea since you started sweating when you stepped out into the Georgia heat.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” You waved him off, walking up to Carol. She handed you a bag full of the needed supplies, and you thanked her before walking over to Carl, sitting at the table. You finally found Tora there, and she meowed when you rubbed behind her ears. “I should’ve known you would’ve stolen her right from me. Little traitor.” You said, lightly flicking the rim of Carl’s hat.
“It’s not my fault she likes me so much,” Carl laughed, feeding her some meat.
You hummed and leaned down, kissing Tora on her head. “You just watch her while I’m gone.” But you didn’t need to worry about that, as Tora took a very quick liking to the boy and bounced back and forth between you and him. He knew all her whistles and commands, and you knew Carl always closely watched the giant cat. Especially since she was so popular with the children.
“Come on, I don’ got all day,” Darl yelled again.
You rolled your eyes as you finally approached him, adjusting the strap on your bag. “Take a chill pill, Daryl. The sun’s only been up twenty minutes. You have all day with me. You don’t gotta rush me outta here,” You replied.
He scuffed, and you laughed at his reaction as you walked over to your jeep. “Come on, we don’t wanna be late,” You said.
***
It was a bit cooler once you and Daryl got to your usual hunting grounds. The trees provided ample shading, but the breeze was still warm, and it was still early. You were a good few miles away from the prison, where the walkers were more spread out and the noise level was quieter. Still, you’d taken out quite a number of them.
Despite the heat, the ground was still a bit damp from the rain last night, and your jeans soaked through as you knelt on the ground, checking the snare traps. It took you and Daryl about twenty minutes to go through the cycle, and you successfully caught three rabbits, four squirrels, and a groundhog. You reset the snares and would come back tomorrow.
You heard a whistle and turned back to Daryl, who pointed toward the ground. Your eyes narrowed, and you walked over, trying to see what it was. “Walker?” You asked.
“Nah, person,” He said.
“How do you know?” You asked.
“You see here,” He pointed, “The footprints are in a line. Ain’ zig zaggin’ all ‘ver the place.” He knelt down and moved some of the leaves away from the trail. “How many?”
You knelt down beside him and looked, taking a few more seconds than he did to come up with an answer. “Just one. Only one set of boot marks.” Daryl nodded in confirmation, and you smiled at him before standing up. “Soon, I’ll be an expert tracker like you,” You said.
“You only been doin’ it a couple weeks, give it a few more years,”
You laughed and swung your bag around, grabbing your canteen of water and taking a sip. “It’s hot out here today,” You said and handed him the water. After he took a sip you put it away. “I bet it’s the end of July,”
“Maybe,” He muttered, looking at another pair of tracks on the ground, “Come ‘ere, check ‘em out,”
You walked over and looked, not recognizing what they were. “Some type of bird?”
“I think wild turkeys, trail goes this way. Look kinda fresh too,”
“Maybe we should follow them if we can catch some and bring them back, that’s fresh eggs during their breeding season, and we can raise a number of them in the meadow or something,” You said, “Maybe depending on how many we find we can kill a couple. Have Thanksgiving in July,” You laughed.
Daryl shook his head and turned, but you caught him smiling before he did.
***
An hour later, you and Daryl were still tracking the turkey tracks when you came across a lake, It was small but crystal clear, and there were plenty of animal tracks around the muddy bank. It was getting warmer, and you’d thrown your hair up in a ponytail.
The trees were forty feet back and the meadow gave a really nice viewpoint of the area around you. You weren’t exactly sure of where you were, other than north of the prison. You didn’t need to say anything to Daryl, you both knew that this was a good place to take a breather and have your breakfast.
“You wanna know what I miss more than anything?” You asked, biting into a well-expired granola bar. You didn’t need to wait for him to answer. “Chocolate chip pancakes. Or waffles. I loved breakfast food. Lots of syrup and butter. So much better than this shit,” You said.
“I liked the grits we found,” He said.
You groaned, “Ugh, I hate that crap. I hate the texture.”
“It’s filling, though,” He countered.
You shrugged your shoulders and leaned back in the grass. The sun was heavy on you, and a part of you wanted to take a swim through the lake. It’d been so long since you’d been swimming. But you only had another hour or so before heading back. The council decided smaller hunting parties wouldn’t go out for long hours at a time. It was too risky after a couple of newbies never came back.
The little break you and Daryl took was enough to make you curl up and go to sleep. Just like everyone else, your sleeping schedule wasn’t what it should be. Days were long, even though life was easier.
“We should get goin’ in a minute,” Daryl said but went against his words and laid back a few feet away from you.
You sighed but didn’t say anything. It was peaceful out here, despite the danger around every tree. Still, it reminded you of when it was just you and Tora. When your days were spent wandering the forest for food and scaling trees to avoid passing walkers. As much as you like your new life with your family and the prison, sometimes you miss the simplicity of when it was just you.
The sky was mostly clear, with only a few white puffy clouds on the canvas. You laughed as one passed and pointed up at it, “That one looks like a bear,”
“Which one?
You moved a couple inches closer to him and pointed, trying to angle your finger right. “There,”
“Pft, no it ain’,”
You rolled your eyes and sat up. That was when you saw a few wild turkeys by the other side of the lake. “Daryl, the turkeys,”
He sat up immediately and grabbed his crossbow. “Only four, not enough to bring back.”
Your eyes narrowed briefly, “No babies, I wonder what happened to them.” You said. Neither of you needed to say what happened to them. You both knew.
The two of you grabbed your gear and started toward the other side of the lake. Your stomach grumbled at the sight of them, and you felt terrible, but not bad enough. You grabbed Daryl's arm when you got as close as you could to them. “Let me try?”
“Again?”
“Yes, yes, come on. We can’t shoot them, and I need the practice if I’m going to get good at the bow and arrow we found,” You said.
He sighed loudly and handed you the crossbow. You handed him your gun and adjusted the bow in your hand. He’d only let you try a couple of times, and you never could get used to the weight of it. But that bow and arrow was just sitting in your cell at the prison, and you did want to learn it.
“Gotta take the bow out more,” Daryl said to you, “We can do some target practice. Glenn been teachin’ some of the others to shoot. Maybe we’ll go with ‘em?”
You nodded and lifted the bow, repeating the instructions in your head on how to use it. You set your finger on the trigger and waited for a few heartbeats before aiming, then waited again and then fired. The arrow pierced the leg of the animal, and you cringed when you heard its painful clucks. This was the part you hated most about hunting.
“Dammit,” You muttered.
Daryl looked at you, “You’re leanin’, can’ kill it with just a shot yet, it’s okay,”
You sighed and lowered the crossbow while Daryl went to kill the injured bird. The other three scattered off but didn’t go too far. You were entirely disappointed in yourself, and the sound of the turkey in distress only made it worse.
You were just around to tell Daryl he could get the rest when an arm around your throat pulled you backward, and you felt the sharp tip of a knife touch the base of your throat.
“Don’t move,” A deep voice said in your ear.
Daryl turned around with the gun raised at the sound of a new voice. “Let ‘er go,” He said.
A different man came into view with a gun too, and you closed your eyes for a second. You were fucked.
“Nobody’s gotta get hurt,” The man said, “We’re just gonna take your shit, and we’ll be on our way,” The man holding you hostage said. “Drop your weapon, and I won’t slit her throat,”
Your eyes met Daryl’s, and you could see the anger and worry on his face. He was breathing heavily. Slowly he put the gun on the ground.
“Adam, get the bags and the bird,” The man said.
Adam moved to grab the bags, and you quickly pulled his arm away from your throat in the opportunity of your attacker's lack of attention. That quick second of reaction gave you enough time to duck under the arm, pull out your own knife, and slam it into the side of his body. He screamed in pain, and you pulled it out, dropping to the ground to swing your legs. His head hit the ground at the same time as you heard a gunshot, but you didn’t stop.
You drove the knife down into your attacker's arm, and he screamed again, dropping the knife he did have. With his weapon removed, you turned back, ready to throw a knife at Adam, but he was already on the ground.
You barely had time to react before Daryl was on the man, and you grimaced when you heard the sickening crunch of bone as Daryl assaulted the man.
“Daryl!” You yelled, grabbing his arm mid-punch and using all your strength to keep him from beating the man to death.
“He woulda killed ya!” Daryl yelled, pulling his arm free.
“Doesn’t mean we gotta kill him!” You yelled.
“Nah, this asshole is dead,”
“No!” You yelled, trying to shove Daryl off of the unconscious man. “He’s as good as dead as it is. We don’t know if it was just the two of them. We need to go, Daryl, now. Please.” You stressed. You weren’t sure what exactly caused Daryl to stop, but thankfully he did, and he cursed loudly as he stood up.
When he looked at you, his eyes dropped to your arm. “You’re bleedin’,”
You looked down and saw a two-inch gash on your bicep. You hadn’t even felt it. “Crap,” You muttered, immediately putting pressure on the wound. You hadn’t noticed the blood dripping down your arm either.
“We got stuff in the bag,” Daryl grunted and went to get the supplies.
You followed him and watched silently as he quickly cleaned up the cut and put a gauze pad over it. It would have to do until you got home.
“Let’s get out of ‘ere, don’ wanna be ‘ere when he wakes up. I’ll fuckin’ kill ‘em,” Daryl cursed.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Pairing: Idia Shroud x Reader
Characters: Idia Shroud and Ortho Shroud
Warnings: GN reader, Slight OOC, Uses of the nickname ‘Darling’ despite gender-neutral reader
AN: Just a fun side story, before anything serious happens.
-
Today was just an typically ordinary day.
An ordinary day to do nothing but laze about in Idia’s dorm.
Ortho paused his current playthrough of farming dancing blobs to gaze at the “potential couple” doing their own thing.
His brother was currently raiding online with his online companion Crimson Muscle, while you were busy playing on a handheld console. You had said something about wanting to help solve puzzles with a “Gentleman traveler and his apprentice” before the new game comes out sometime this year.
Maybe he should be more concerned about his brother’s personality rubbing off on you than the other way around.
On the other hand, you both were now comfortable enough to do whatever, he guess?
Perhaps you missed a step after skipping the confession?  He really doesn’t know.
What exactly comes next?
Please don’t let it be another session of feeding his brother peeled apple slices when he last got sick…
Thankfully, you broke the silence. “Hey, Idia?”
Idia only grunted in response, his eyes fully fixated on his game. However, he was listening.
“I know we’ve been friends for quite a while, well, more than that, but…I was wondering…Would you…Would you be okay with taking our relationship to the next level?”
That…Was so sudden! You really do have no shame! Idia is choking on his drink and everything!
Better calm him down before it gets worse!
“S-sorry if that was too sudden Player 1,” You apologized as you patted his back. “I should’ve waited until you were done drinking.”
“Yeah, you should have!” Idia gasped. “What’s with the sudden sneak attack? Are you trying to send me to an early grave?!”
“Maybe?” You gave a teasing smile and then awkwardly giggled when he glared. “It’s just that…I’ve seen things where the best of friends use special names for each other. Not that I’m against our current nicknames: Player 1 and Player 2. I just want something a little more…intimate y’know?”
At this Idia groaned as he quietly muttered things like “typical normie stuff”, but the pink in his hair never faded. “I knew I should have never let you watch late-night shojo anime…Too many unrealistic expectations…”
“He’s just shy,” Ortho whispered on the other side, finally giving his two cents on the topic, causing you to giggle.
“We don’t have to, if it’s too much.”
“I-I never said that! And Ortho, stop enabling them!”
“No promises, big bro!”
“You are so cute when you’re flustered, Idia~”
You two were going to be the death of him!
-
It only had been half an hour and Idia has crossed out pages worth of random names. Most of them were just you messing around and coming up with the cringiest of nicknames that even made Ortho flinch with how sugary sweet some of the names were.
Seriously, how can anyone call their friend ‘Schmoopsy Poo’ and keep a straight face?
“I’m sorry, Prefect, but I can’t agree with any of these. And what’s the deal with ‘Smashy-smashy Eggman’? That doesn’t make any sense!”
“Sorry. Had a favorite movie back from my world on the brain and just couldn’t help but quote it at least once while I’m here. I’ll tell you all about it after we’re done with all of this.”
Idia sighed. “How about something simple? What kind of name would you want to go by?”
You paused mid-scribble as you pondered on what he suggested. It took about a few minutes before your face burned an alarming red.
‘Quite the reaction there, Prefect. Mind sharing with the rest of us?’
“Well…There is one that I kinda want to try…”
“Oh? What is it, big sib?”
“Idia…Do you remember that one horror game with the little girl and her black cat?”
Ortho had an idea where this was going, but let you continue much to his brother’s embarrassment.
“I…would like to be called one of those names of endearment that the cat called her. I would like to be called ‘darling’ and for you to be called ‘dearest’. Is that okay with you?”
“D-d-darling…D-d-dearest…”
“Idia?”
“Brother, are you okay?”
-
“Again, sorry for overheating your brother, Ortho. Didn’t mean to overdue it this time.”
“Don’t worry about it, big sib. He lasted longer than his previous record which is 10% less.”
“That’s quite an achievement. Is there anything I can do?”
“Don’t worry about it too much. I’ll just put some gamer stuff under his nose and he’ll be back up. For now, just head on back to Ramshackle.”
“Alright…thanks again Ortho, for humoring me.”
With you finally out of the room, the younger Shroud could only shake his head as he stared at how pathetic his brother was being. All of that because of a simple pet name…
“They wanted me to call them darling…and me dearest…how cringworthy can they get…how lame..”
“Idia, I can’t take you seriously with that dumb look on your face.”
Only in the Ignihyde dorm would that count as progress. Best of luck to you, Prefect.

hii :) can you write a nat and reader one like angst with happy fluff ending where reader thinks nat is cheating on her because shes a little distant and hiding her phone and stuff so reader thinks something bad but nat is just planning something for reader like a surprise of some sort like her birthday or planning to propose or something. fluffy happy ending please :( love your writing
Cheater
You and Nat have been dating for over two years now and to say that things were great was an understatement. Half a year ago you’ve moved into an apartment together and got a cute black cat called Liho. Nat was still working with the avengers while you worked for shield. It seemed like everything was falling into place.
That was until Nat started to sleep at the compound leaving you alone for the night and most of the next day. She barely texted you anymore or called and when she was home she wouldn’t cuddle with you or anything else actually. And to make it worse, she hid her phone and changed her password.
At the beginning of your relationship it was similar to this. The redhead was scared of relationships and getting hurt and even though she loved you she was scared that she couldn’t trust you. But you put so much work into your relationship that she warmed up.
“Hey Natty, you aren’t answering your phone… again… well I just wanted to ask if you come home tonight? I thought I could cook your favourite and we could spend some quality time together. Just let me know, I miss you.” You hung up the phone before getting back to work to keep your mind off of your girlfriend.
An hour later you got a text saying “sorry I am on mission, will be back tomorrow night. Ly” You sighed before deciding to visit the compound. Nat might not want your cooking but the rest of the team was never one to say no. So you got your stuff before making your way over.
When you arrived you had Friday call the team in the kitchen so they could decide what they want to eat.
“Y/n what are you doing here?! It’s so great to see you” Steve said as he made his way over to hug you before stepping to the side for Tony. “Hello Y/n/n, why are you here? Lover girl already left with a really stunning dress in her hand.” He said as he hugged you followed by Bucky. “Yeah, I don’t think you guys are meeting here.” The man added as he let you go.
“She has a mission right? That’s the reason she left…” you told the others trying to sound confident in yourself and your girl but everything started to blur. Why would she lie to you?
“No she doesn’t. She and Wanda left like 20 minutes ago.” Steve explained and looked at your pale face.
Realization started to set in. It all made sense now, she stayed her sleeping with other people and going out instead of coming home. She wouldn’t let you see her phone so you wouldn’t see the messages.
“I’m sorry guys… I just…” you broke down in sobs before you could finish your sentence, causing Pepper, who just joined you, to hug you. “Hey, it’s going to be alright. Come on, let’s go to my room.” She soothingly whispered in your ear before leading you to her room.
“I think she’s cheating on me” you whispered as you were seated on the bed with your knees pulled to your chest. “Romanoff? Why do you think that?” She asked as she settled next to you trying to give you comfort. “She barely shows up anymore, she doesn’t touch me, she hides her phone and apparently she’s lying to me about missions while she’s actually having a date with Wanda.” You explained through your tears. And actually Pepper was just as shocked as you were, she always thought Natasha was deeply in love with you, but now that she thought about it the spy was acting weird lately.
“You should talk to her and ask her. I know it’s scary but this isn’t much better” she suggested making you nod. You spent another 2 and a half hours with Pepper before deciding to go home to feed Liho.
So you left in one of Tony’s hoodies with tears streaming down your face and tiredness taking over your body. You opened the door to see your girlfriend in front of her car with Wanda closely next to her. You thought about the options you had, you could go there and scream at her or you could watch what happens. You decided to wait hoping that you misinterpreted the whole thing.
But what you saw next did the opposite thing. The redhead got a small box from her jacket and gave it to the witch making your heart ache. They seemed so happy, so happy that you couldn’t bring yourself to go there. You loved her and wanted her happy so if this was the only option you’d let her go.
Quickly making your way over to your car you sped off to your apartment to pack your things.
——————————————————————————
3rd point of view
Natasha saw a car drive past them that seemed way to familiar so she turned around before she realized. It was your car.
“Fuck! I gotta go Wands” she said climbing into her car confusing the witch. “What’s wrong? Where do you wanna go?” She asked completely blind to the situation. Nat answered a quick Y/n saw us and started to panic. “It’s going to be alright. Just go there and explain it to her! You’ll be fine!” Wanda said and closed the smaller woman’s door.
As she arrived at their apartment her heart started to beat much faster and blood rushed to her cheeks. This really was going to make or break everything.
“Babe? Where are you?” She called out as she opened the door to the shared apartment. “I’m here Natasha” the taller girl answered. This was the moment she knew she fucked up. “Don’t call me Natasha. You never call me Natasha, it’s babe or sweetheart or anything, but not Natasha.” She walked closer to the y/h/c who tried to keep herself together. Only now she could see her red eyes and the tear stains on her cheeks causing her to reach out.
But Y/n took a step back. “Why would you do that?! I loved you so much and you go and sleep with her! A friend of mine? Why wasn’t I enough??” The broken voice broke the Russians heart, she knew what you were thinking and you had every right to.
“My love, it was not what it looked like I promise.” Y/n was now anxiously walking around. “Oh really? And what about you barely being here anymore? And hiding your phone? And lying to me?” Her sadness slowly turned into madness. Romanoff didn’t have any right to cheat on her. She’s always been a good girlfriend, she came to all the events, the cooked for her, she was there for her and never pushed her to do anything.
While the taller girl walked around rambling about how unfair all of this was Nat decided on the only way to end this.
So when Y/n turned around she saw her girlfriend on one knee in front of her holding a beautiful ring with red details in her hand.
“I’m sorry I neglected you these last few weeks but I was planning to do this really big and cool proposal but I got scared. One day I was so sure that I want to marry you that I started to panic so I thought maybe I just need some distance and when I told Wanda she convinced me that this is a good thing and helped me plan it. I was so unsure that I didn’t even think about what you must think.” She started her Monolog.
“But I want you to know that I love you with my whole heart and that being with you made me a better person. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I get to be with you and I still can’t believe it. You opened my eyes to so many things and always treated me as way more than I was actually worth! I couldn’t have done so many things without you and I can’t wait to see what more comes. I love you with all my heart. Y/n Y/m/n Y/l/n do you wanna marry me?”
She couldn’t move, she was so shocked that her brain stopped working. Only the tears flowing down her cheeks for the second time this day.
After some seconds in silence Natasha thought she had her answer and was about to stand up when she was tackled into the floor. Y/n laying on top of her with her head in the crock of her neck whispering a quick yes before placing kisses on her neck.
They were still lying on the floor when to taller girl started to apologize. “I’m sorry for thinking you were cheating on me.” She whispered before pressing a kiss to her fiancées lips. “You had every right to think that and I’m sorry for hurting you because I was to insecure.” The redhead pulled her closer and connected their hands pulling out her phone.
She quickly snapped a picture of the two of them laying on the floor with Y/n hand in hers, the ring on display. She send it to the rest of her team with a short text saying ‘guys, meet my fiancée❤️’.
They spend the rest of the night laying on the ground cuddling and kissing as Y/n demanded all the affection she didn’t get for the last couple of weeks.
So to say that there relationship was great was an understatement and both of them hoped that saying that their marriage was great would also be an understatement.
I hope this is what you wanted… if not just tell me and I’ll try again. Thank you <3 I hope you guys enjoy

just thinking about how if you had a cat, they would definitely like Fox
like most times, when there’s new people around they get nervous and hide in closets or behind the sofa
but Fox has been round a few times now and you’d obviously pre warned him about your cat like “don’t take it personally, it’s a cat- I feed them, care for them and love them with all my heart and they don’t really like me”
at first, the cat is indifferent. a few cautious sniffs of his hands and his shoes but that’s it
SO when you go out to collect the pizza order and come home to find Fox laying on your couch with your cat dozing on his chest you’re completely taken aback
the cat stays by his side basically all night, when he stops stroking, your cat lets out the smallest meow and looks at him and Fox is like “I have cramp from petting you! Gimme two minutes to rest and I’ll be back at it”
whenever Fox comes through the door, the cat is next to his feet, meowing and basically pleading with him for just a CRUMB of attention
at night when you get in bed, Fox is already there lying against the headboard with his glasses on and a cat on his chest. the cats eyes are closed and they’re purring so LOUD as Fox is petting them and cooing over them
and Fox teases u about it, you’ll walk in and the cat will be on him and he’ll be pretending they were talking about you, “socks was telling me that you were late feeding her last night . she asked if i could move in because I’m more attentive” and he has such a SMIRK on his face even though he is acting like he’s having a full blown gossip with your own cat
“honestly Socks, you can have him. he’s a bit too weird for me”

June 6
Early this morning as August was getting ready for his daily grind at work, he heard distressed meowing outside his home. He went outside and found a sick cat out by the fence of the property he shares with his lovely wife, Aubree. He feels bad for the cat. He runs back inside, grabs a towel and carefully wraps up the furball, heading to the vet.
Tumblr media
Mina Brown thankfully gets the cat in quickly and examines her. “I think a shot will fix her right up.” She explains, before giving the feline a shot. She checks for a microchip, not finding one.
“Do you wish to send her to the forever hills sanctuary shelter or take her home? She doesn’t have a collar or a microchip.” Mina informs Mr. Lewis.
Aubree may kill him.
Tumblr media
Not only has he brought in another mouth to feed but he also took a personal day while she was at work, to make sure Thor and the new cat get along and don’t destroy the house or each other. He’s half tempted to call Vera for backup, he knows she’ll understand him taking in the feline.
Tumblr media
It’s bedtime by the time Aubree finds the cat sitting on their counter, staring out the window.
“Why is there a cat on my counter?” Aubree asks her husband. She had a late day at work and came home, changing into her nightwear instantly.
“I found her outside, she was sick. She needed vet care.” August begins to explain to his pregnant wife. “The vet gave her a shot and she’s doing much better, her and Thor are even getting along.” Granted it’s by mostly avoiding each other, but it works.
Aubree stares at her husband, knowing she married a softie. “I’m all for getting her vet care but why is she still here?”
“I got attached when she looked at me with those big buggy eyes. Her name is Betty Davis.” August says softly.
Aubree bites her tongue, wanting to remind him that soon they’ll have a baby and two pets to take care of. “I’m going to bed.”
Ten minutes later ~
August had given Aubree a bit of time to cool off before he joined her in bed.
Tumblr media
“Honey, I know you’re worried about us taking care of the baby and the pets too, but it’ll be fine. We’re both taking paid leave after the baby comes. Cats are pretty self selficent, mostly and Thor is a good dog. It’ll be fine.” August tells her, rubbing her baby bump. It had taken a bit, but Aubree is starting to show more.
Aubree sighs and nods at her husband, her annoyance and worry has faded. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” August tells her back before giving her a kiss and continuing to caress her tummy.

Bugs and Katten
For Maribat March 2021 day 26 prompt Not Soulmates.
This is only over 21 months late, sorry? I dunno man. I just kinda fell out of love with writing. Anyways, I hope you like this 1196 word long fic featuring basically just Marinette and Adrien.
This is just a self-indulgent found family/chosen family fic about Marinette and Adrien being a chaotic sibling duo.
Kattendame is supposedly Dutch for Cat lady.
Okay, I've rambled enough. On with the story.
Marinette and Adrien had been superheroes — vigilantes Marinette’s brain would traitorously supply — for just a few months when a girl in their class, Alya Cesaire, came across them on patrol and her face lit up with glee.
“I didn’t know Paris had superheroes!” Her voice rose with every word, causing Marinette – Kattendame – to flinch away.
Adrien – Monsieur Punaise – clenched his teeth before clearing his throat. “Ma’am we are citizens, just like you. We may don masks and super suits, but that doesn’t make us not people.”
His whole speech seemed to go in one ear and out the other as Alya took a picture of the way they were standing, Monsieur Punaise in front of Kattendame. “Oh my gosh! Are you two together? Are you dating?”
“No.” Monsieur Punaise stared at Alya with disbelief. “Kattendame and I are simply colleagues, like the members of the Justice League” – Monsieur Punaise watched Kattendame flinch at the mention of the Justice League and filed that information away for later – “and nothing more.”
Kattendame nodded her agreement before her eyes flicked over Monsieur Punaise’s shoulder. “There’s an Akuma in the ninth arrondissement. We’ve gotta go.” Kattendame didn’t spare Alya a glance as she lept from rooftop to rooftop.
Monsieur Punaise offered Alya a soft smile and an uttered, “get home safe”, before he followed his partner over the rooftops.
Alya’s face grew into a sneaky grin, “they are so soulmates.”
---
It had been just under two weeks – twelve days, nineteen hours, forty-seven minutes, and a handful of seconds – since Alya had put a post on her blog about how Mr. Bug and Chatte Noir – where Alya had gotten those names Marinette (and Adrien) didn’t know – were soulmates and were secretly dating. The blog post had nearly two million hits, and climbing, and someone had started a comment thread about how obvious the supposed couple was.
Marinette couldn’t believe her eyes, she was sure she and Adrien had kept their relationship professional. She could have sworn that she had kept her distance from Adrien while they were in their suits, unless it was time to fist bump. She kept refreshing the page, hoping it was just a trick of the lighting, but no matter what she did she just kept seeing the same picture of her and Adrien in a compromising position.
Adrien sunk down in the seat next to Marinette, his eyes skimming the blog post before looking over the class. “So, who do you think trusts it explicitly?”
“We know Alya does, for sure, and maybe Rose. Because she loves romance. I’m not sure about anyone else, I haven’t heard anyone else talking about it.” Marinette frowned before switching tabs. The other tab she had pulled up was the live feed of a Wayne Enterprises press conference, Adrien settled against her side and kept a running commentary of wether or not everyone’s outfit was red carpet worthy.
Marinette still couldn’t believe that she and Adrien were going to attend the New York Fashion week with Nathalie and Gabriel. She was hoping that while they were there she’d be able to get in contact with a member of the Justice League, as much as she dislikes the organization she hoped one of them could help them take on Hawkmoth.
Adrien nudged Marinette and pointed to where the class was gathered around Alya. “Do you see how they’re gathered around her like some sort of queen bee?”
Marinette nodded against his arm. “Who do you think believes the rumor the most?”
“Mylène, Rose, Sabrina and Kim seem to be the most into the rumor. Nathaniel seems to be  on the fence about it, almost as if he wishes it isn’t so.” Adrien brushed the hair off of Marinette’s forehead and let out a chuckle. “If only my father could see you now. He would disinvite you from our trip.”
“Gabriel loves me more than he loves you-”
“-ain’t that the truth-”
“-and he would never disinvite me.” Marinette laughed at the face Adrien made. “You know it’s the truth.”
“Just because he’s scared that your mom would break in and steal his precious design book.” Adrien nudged Marinette, “class is about to start back up.”
---
Kattendame and Monsieur Punaise stood side by side in front of Nadja Chamack, smiles across their faces.
“So, tell me, are the rumors about the two of you true? Is what the LadyBlog posting about the two of you being soulmates true?”
Kattendame looked at Monsieur Punaise, the Batman to her Catwoman, before frowning at Nadja. “Monsieur Punaise and I are just friends. He’s like my annoying twin brother, and I love him so much more than any of those rumors are saying.”
“Kattendame is definitely the younger twin of this duo.” Monsieur Punaise smirked before ruffling Kattendame’s hair.
Nadja smiled at the duo and how they acted with one another. “How did you go from your first suits to these?”
Kattendame’s hand went up in the air immediately. “It was my idea! I took the idea from, well, Batman-” here she gestured to Monsieur Punaise’s suit “- and Catwoman.” The ears atop her head seemed to twitch. “However, unlike the inspiration for our suits, we’re strictly friends.”
---
Marinette scrolled through the article Nadja wrote about the heroes of Paris. She smiled at the screen before she nudged Adrien’s leg with her foot. “Hey, hey, listen to this.” She cleared her throat and straightened up. “‘Monsieur Punaise and Kattendame, not Mr. Bug and Chatte Noir like some sources would have you believe, are not soulmates, at least not romantic soulmates. This reporter was given an exclusive interview with the hero duo and can confirm that the duo is the most sibling duo this reporter has ever seen. Their suits are inspired by Gotham city’s masked duo of Batman and Catwoman, however unlike Gotham’s masked duo Paris’ masked duo interacts like most sibling duos we all know in person. While Kattendame is more soft spoken and Monsieur Punaise is definitely the figure head, they both fill every possible role on their team and could use our help. I implor you, my fellow Parisians, to do the best you can to help our heroes take down Hawkmoth.’”
“Wow. She’s on our side. Most adults aren’t on our side.” Adrien hummed before changing the topic. “Are you excited for our trip?”
“Yeah. It’ll be fun.” Marinette smiled at her friend – brother in all but blood – before looking around his room, where they were hanging out that day because they usually tried to avoid her house – and as much as they joke about it Gabriel actually seems to like Marinette – and her father and step-mother. “Hey, we should hang at mine before patrol tomorrow.”
Plagg and Tikki, who were playing foosball, looked up at the suggestion.
“Why?” Adrien asked before looking at the kwamii who had fallen over. “How does the ball always get you? You can fly.”
“I want to make us some new clothes to wear, Papa G and Nathalie too.”
“Please don’t call him Papa G.” Adrien groaned.
“Anyways, you and I are the only ones with changing measurements. I’ll get Papa G and Nathalie’s measurements from Nathalie.”

@xfilesbingo Promp: Flowers
IVF arc, Late-night store runs, outside POV, MSR, General Audiences
687 words, read here on AO3
It had been a long night – the nights always were these days – and the fluorescents were giving her a headache. Half an hour more and she could clock out, go home, feed the cat, and crash out. ‘That’ll be ten fifty,’ she watched as the guy fished out a crumpled bill from his pocket and accepted it with a tired smile, handed his change over with his receipt.
Nothing much happened in the store at this time of night: students mostly, coming in for bread and beer. It gave her time to draw, fill her sketchbook full of quick studies. She searched the ends of the aisles that she could see for her next subject, finding him easily. He was standing with the flowers near the door, at this point in the night mostly wilted. He’d been there a while, since before she served the last customer, and his decision-making didn’t seem to be going particularly well. But he had an interesting face, angular and strong, but there – hidden beneath layers of exhaustion that seemed to weigh heavily under his eyes and over his shoulders – was a boyish charm that lit his eyes. A hope that creased his fore brow.
As she sketched his likeness onto the back of one of the store receipts he made a decision and wandered deeper into the depths of the store, disappearing from her view. A pretty blonde with a pretty smile appeared at the end of her till, an armful of snacks piled high that she dropped to the counter, ‘finals?’
‘Uh-huh,’ she gave another winning smile.
‘What are you studying?’
‘Physics. You?’
‘Oof, uh, I’m doing my Masters in Art and Museum Studies.’
‘Wow,’ she peered over the checkout at the collection of receipt stubs and napkins and scraps covered in sketched portraits, ‘they’re good.’
‘Thanks. That’ll be twelve seventy.’
‘Twelve seventy, coming up,’ she smiled, digging around in a worn wallet, handing over the exact change, ‘maybe you could draw me sometime?’
‘Maybe I could,’ she scribbled her number on the till receipt when it printed and slid it across the counter.
One final smile and she was gone, juggling her haul out the door. The man with the flowers had reappeared, lingering along the shelves of wine. Turned away without taking a bottle before hesitating and turning back, choosing a bottle of red. He made his way over to her, still seemingly internally debating the wine.
‘Hi.’
‘Hey,’ he nodded distractedly, unloading the contents of his basket – a bouquet of white lilies and the bottle of red, a bar of dark chocolate – she rang each of the items through as he unloaded them, chuckled and smirked, ‘forget your anniversary or something?’
‘Uh... not exactly,’ he murmured, passing her two tubs of ice cream – the expensive one that she could rarely afford.
‘Must have missed something important for all this?’ she inquired casually with a quirk of her eyebrow as she absently took the last item from him and scanned the box, and it wasn’t until it beeped on the register that she took in what she was holding, ‘oh.’
‘Yeah,’ his expression - something a little like hope, something a little like fear – intrigued her as he accepted the pregnancy test from her and placed it carefully, reverently, in the bag amongst his other purchases.
‘That’s, uh, that’s thirty-six ninety.’ He nodded, slipped out his wallet from his back pocket and passed over his card. She passed it back with his receipt, ‘hey, good luck, dude.’
‘Thanks,’ he nodded, taking a little shaky breath before nodding again and giving her a smile full of hope, ‘yeah, thanks,’ he left, a hurried bounce to his step, and she wondered who it was he was eager to get home to: whether it was a wife or girlfriend, whether it would be a night of celebration. She sighed and looked at her watch, groaning at the idea of having to spend fifteen more minutes there before she could cash up and go home, thinking about the potential of a message on her ansaphone from a pretty blonde with a pretty smile.

Discourse Analysis
• short fic / rating: M / words: 880 / Read on AO3 (longer ending).
"I love you always!" Harry says to Teddy, still waving goodbye after the Hogwarts Express is gone.
"Yesss! You’re the best, mate, I love you," he says when Ron brings him food after a long day.
"What would I do without you? I love you," he says when Hermione helps him to solve anything.
"Love you too, dear," he says to friends and family, old and young. Harry has learned the words that eluded him for so long.
"Malfoy," he says.
"Oh, just shut it, Malfoy". "Wanker". "Stop burning my food, Malfoy". "You're a prat". "Leave the fridge alone! The sounds are normal, it's making ice". "Here's your pint. No, you don't like firewhisky so I won't buy you firewhisky". "Don't you dare touch the microwave again". "Yeah, you can have the last slice". "Don't touch my toaster". "Learn. To. Cook, Malfoy".
"How's your mum?" "Stop feeding my neighbour's cat, it's getting fat and they think it's my fault". "No, you can't steal other people's pets". "You don't know if they don't love her, and it's a him". "Stop changing her name— HIS, his name, for fuck's sake."
"Can I borrow your owl?" He says through the green flames of the floo, he hasn't bought a new one yet. It's not that late, but it's not early either. "Pub night? Wear a jumper, it's cold". "I made Goyle and Parkinson laugh today". "Of course they were laughing with me, we were laughing at you", he says beaming. They were not, Draco's friends confirm it later, but he lets him believe it anyway, Harry must know too.
"Oh, that feels— that feels. Ah— Malfoy, yeah— there. Right there," he says the first time, just before turning into a mess under Draco's touch.
"Who's going with you to the ball? We could— together. If you want," he says with the least casual shrug in human history, hands inside his pockets and looking down to hide the prettiest blush Draco has ever seen.
"S'fine, just a scratch". "No, I don't jump into danger". "I don't have a death wish". "Sod off, Malfoy", he says walking away.
"Why didn't you reply to my letters?" "People fight all the time, Malfoy, doesn't mean they don't speak again!" "We had plans! I was waiting for you!" "Oh don't you dare walk away, we will talk about this!" He says barging into Draco's flat, dismantling the wards like they were made of paper and he was a stag ready to battle in the middle of the rutting season.
"Look at you, Malfoy". "You feel so good, Malfoy". "You take me so well, Malfoy", he says. "You're beautiful, Malfoy," he repeats, kissing every part of Draco's back, even if Draco doesn't believe the last one and still has trouble showing him his chest and arm without glamours. Harry is patient. And soft, so incredibly soft.
"I bought them for you," he says with a humongous hydrangea bouquet in his hands: blue, purple, white and pale pink. Everybody else in the little Investigative Assistant's library is whispering, ready to share the gossip with the rest of the ministry any minute now. "You like flowers, right? I could— vanish them, if you don't— oh, okay. Good." He seems to be expecting something, but Draco can't fathom what. Harry leaves with a nod.
It takes Draco two whole days to realize it's been exactly one year since they kissed for the first time. One year and those bloody two days. Harry doesn't pressure him, but when Draco apologizes with home-cooked dinner, Harry smiles all night, eating everything: the dry meat, the unsalted mashed, the overcooked vegetables, even the burnt brownie. When they kiss, Harry tastes like chocolate, and in bed, Harry giggles in a way Draco's never heard before, he seems happy.
"No, don't cut it, I like your hair". "Bloody hell, Malfoy, I'm not drunk, your hair's pretty," he says, trying to braid it without success because he is, indeed, a bit drunk, but he does it delicately, making Draco's scalp shiver, relaxing him until he's asleep half over Harry's chest, half in between his legs.
"Shut up, I just sniffed your shirt because it's laundry day and I always find your clothes here, may as well wash them too". "Seeker's game?" "Are you busy this weekend? I'm thinking of taking Teddy to an amusement park. They are not exactly a park, it has rides and games, you'll like it." "Want to stay for supper?" "Let's watch that movie you like, Blade Runner?" "Yeah, I know how much you like Harrison Ford's crooked smile," he says rolling his eyes fondly.
"Too early, Malfoy, close the curtains," he mumbles from under the duvet, still half asleep.
"Stay."
"C'mere."
"Draco."
They all mean the same.

7/12/23
It’s a Thursday morning, 10:30, a bit late, but I’m basically unemployed, so who’s counting? I roll around in bed and vape for a bit. I stop when my cat jumps up, a needy little kitty who always demands his morning stroke. I finally get up and go pee. I feel the muscles in my thighs as I sit down.
Finishing, I move to feel my back. It’s tense and tight, regular. I touch the mole on my back. It’s a little bumpy, but I like the detail it adds to my skin. My spot patches have come off in the night (usual). I have two spots with a white head, but I resist the urge to pick them. Moving my eyes to my entire face, I see the straw that is my hair, tried into two plaits, and my bangs hang oddly.
Returning to bed again, I hear the birds scattered about on the flat part of the roof, probably from the obscene amount of bird food I put there (oops). I’m not allowed to do that. Mum says it will cause an infestation. It hasn’t so far.
I briefly think of the history of pigeons when I see a partially large one fly down to nibble at the feed. I shake the thought. I’ll go down a rabbit hole filled with tears. I don’t want to drown so early in the morning.
I move to put on some clothes; my current naked body isn’t appropriate to go downstairs into my large, windowed, scattered house. I was wearing the white long-sleeved shirt yesterday and the same joggers. I’m not wearing any undergarments. My nipples are an eyesore for some. They are my main accessory.
My vision zones in on my mother’s office door. Hugging my chest, I knock. She lets out an exhausted yes. I say good morning and tell her that the cat got out the window, a lie (I just wanted something to say to her). She doesn’t respond. A thought that she doesn’t respond because she knows I’m lying crosses my mind, but I shake it off. She’s working hard to provide for me; I can’t take offence to that. I pause a moment, still hiding my nipples beneath my crossed arms. She still hasn’t turned around yet.
I picked up the cat that managed to get in during our minute-long, one-sided conversation and close the door gently.
I head downstairs, plopping the cat down on the last steps.
Seeing the litter tray, I think I’ll do it after a drink. My throat is sore. I fill a clear mug-like glass with six ice cubes, frozen blueberries and strawberries. I add the filtered water and stick my decade-old straw into it. I make my way to the sofa in the kitchen, drap my pink blanket over my legs, sip on my drink and start writing.

Pet Names
We named my first (and only) cat Sophie, after a friend’s turtle. Oh, wait a moment. I wanted to discuss invented terms for things in our lives. Humans are quirky and come up with various ways to amuse themselves. One of those ways is to devise a funny name for things.
This differs from a widely accepted alternative name for something like a beer is sometimes called “brew.”  Sometimes, these terms are a mild putdown or a way to express frustration. They are also used to add a bit of joy to our lives. So, I thought it would be amusing to write down my list of pet names and explain their background.
    Chadwick Time
In college, we had a friend Chadwick, who was always 10-15 minutes late. So, whenever somebody was late, we always said, “They are on Chadwick Time.”
    Salad Problem
There used to be a great restaurant chain called Pat and Oscars that changed to Oscars that changed to O’s. They went under during Covid but had a quirk when they first opened. As part of their initial promotions, they would drop off an extra salad, and by the end of our meal, we would have a mountain of leftover salad bowls. Hey, want to go to Salad Problem tonight?
    Expensive Sandwiches
There is a small restaurant at the San Diego Glider Port. It is a fun place to eat with a fantastic view, but there is one problem. They were super pricy. A sandwich costs $15.
    Time-Waster 2000
My boss once tasked me with writing a design checklist to remind him of the steps. (We had wonderful memories and did not need this silliness.) This list insulted us so when I told everybody about it, I called it the Time-Waster 2000. Yes, this got back to him. Yes, I got in trouble.
    Fiction Writers Anonymous
I coined this term for the marketing department at a former company. They invented all kinds of wild lies to promote our products.
    Hair Dryer
My mechanic invented this term to describe turbochargers. My first car had one, and when I drove fast, I would say, “The hair dryer is doing its job.”
    Christmas Tree
One of my high school friends was a plumber’s assistant during summer vacations. Sometimes, he would run out of fittings and have to get creative. The senior plumber called the resulting Rube Goldberg creation a Christmas Tree.
    Target Makers
This is what the mechanical engineers called civil engineers at my college. It was also a popular term at a defense contractor I worked for.
    Dingy
My mother invented this pet name for the television remote control. “Where is dingy?” was a common phrase in our house. Side note. We now call it “remoteee.”
    Friskies
This is a pet name my mother invented for pet food. It applied to cat, dog, bird and guinea pig food. It was funny to watch her ask the dog, “Do you want Friskies?”
    The Pool
A pet name my wife invented for the toilet. For some reason, sexual organs and toilets have the most pet names.
Good Gary (AKA Less-Evil Gary) and Evil Gary
In college, I had two friends, Gary Rush and Gary Mah but we could not call them Gary, so we had to come up with nicknames. Good Gary (Mah) and Evil Gary (Rush). In time, the nickname evolved, and Good Gary became Less-Evil Gary.
    Waffle Stompers
This is the name my father invented for hiking boots.
    Snail
Since the invention of email, people have called postal mail “Snail-Mail.” When I walked to the mailbox, I would say, “I’m getting the Snail-Mail” which evolved to “getting the snail.”
Using pet names is fun, but a writer must be careful. Invented terms need to be fully defined, put into context, and used sparingly. For example, in an upcoming book, I wrote: Fortunately, I had my “waffle stompers” (a name my father invented for hiking boots) in my backpack, and I put them on. The pet name in this context is amusing and brings a bit of joy to readers. However, if a character kept feeding their dog “Friskies” without an explanation, it would be confusing.
Hopefully, you had some fun reading my invented terms, and perhaps you will incorporate them into your own life.
    You’re the best -Bill

1950's Brownies
The early morning sun rises peeking through my white blinds. The chill of the late fall breeze creeps through my home . I am awoken by my petite black cat as she jumps on my chest and purrs in my face, reminding me that she needs to be fed. I roll out of my warm cocoon that I have created with my blankets and into the cold as I begin to get ready.
As I enter the kitchen my cat meows for food. I feed her favourite chicken dinner wet cat food and I begin to walk to the pantry. I begin to grab ingredients I need for today’s baking. It’s brownies which are my favourite baked goods! I am looking forward to this. At this point I memorize almost all the ingredients I need as the ingredients seem to be the same almost every time.
Opening my phone, I’m double checking that I have all my ingredients until I noticed that I don’t have baking powder but I have baking soda and I know that if I use baking soda it will not be the same.
I begin to feel a bit of panic as I don’t really wanna go back out to the grocery stores as I’m comfortable in my home and rather not leave. I also have to go to work soon and my plan was to bake my brownies in the morning. I’m having contradicting thoughts in my head as if I should go out right now to get the baking powder or wait after work. The stress of waiting after work is building up as I have other assignments that I need to do tonight and I would rather not be baking in the evening. When I get after work as I’m so exhausted. I can’t make up my mind what I wanna do, I am fighting with myself.
I finally come to a conclusion. I decide that if I go right now I can still create my brownies in time before work. I run to the bathroom getting to start getting ready. I can getting dressed, fix my hair and running out the door within five minutes. I jump into my car, I don’t even let it warm up. I am freezing as I’m driving my way to the grocery store. The sun is so bright, it is hard to see.
As I enter grocery store, it’s quiet, hardly anyone is shopping which I like. I head right to the bakery to see if I can find some baking powder. Surprisingly there was none. I start to panic again not knowing what I was going to do. I could go to the other grocery store that is five minutes down the road but again, I really don’t wanna do that I just wanna be home. However, I am now hyper fixated on getting this baking powder so I had back into my car again and driving down the road to the next grocery store. Once I arrive to the second grocery store again running down to the bakery aisle and to my luck, I found the baking powder I pick it up and head to the checkout paying for it and heading back home.
Within 10 minutes I am home. Quickly, I take off my boots, my jacket, and place the baking powder on the counter and begin to get ready to bake. I reset the oven to 350 and I grab my clear baking bowl. Opening my phone again to read the instructions, it tells me that I need to melt 2 squares of chocolate into hot water over the oven with a bowl. However I do not have big bowl to do this with so I decide to do it in the microwave I understand this is not very 1950s however this is the best I could do for now. I place a stick of butter Into the pink glass bowl. I try to break 2 pieces of unsweeten chocolate, which seemed impossible. That or I’m just weak. instead, I cut the chocolate up with a knife and break them in little pieces. Placing the pieces of chocolate into the same pink bowl with the butter. Throwing the bowl into the microwave. Setting the timer for 2 minutes, I began working on the other part of the recipe.
Cracking the two last eggs off my counter, watching the egg yolk slide down counter and the dark oak wood cabinets, to the floor as. I cracked the second egg I noticed a piece of shell to fallen the bowl. as I try to grab for the shell I can feel the slimy egg yolks between my fingers.
The microwave beeps. I push the door of the microwave. The steam from the bowl rises and exits of the microwave. I pull the bowl out of the microwave, carefully trying not to burn my hands. The overwhelming smell of melted butter tickles my nose making my stomach turn. I place the bowl on the counter, next to the clear baking bowl. I mix the chocolate and butter mixture until everything is melted. There is not clumps, just smooth chocolate. I take the chocolate cover fork form the chocolate bowl. I use it for mixing the eggs and sugar cup of sugar together. The egg and sugar looking like a gain fluorescent yellow. I add the chocolate and butter mix. The hot pink bowl against my hand makes it hard for me to get the last drops of chocolate into the bowl. The bowl as it becomes uncomfortable to hold.
I began mixing everything together. Then add 1 cup of flour, a pinch of salt, baking power and vanilla. (The last three I did not use measure spoons/cups) Once everything is mixed in the brownie mix. The brownie batter looks thick with a nice cream texture as I stir my fork around picking up blobs of brownie batter and watching it slowly fall back into the bowl.
Grabbing a pan, I grease it, the stream for the spray grease fills the air into the sunbeams from my kitchen. I pour the brownie batter in the pan. as its pouring, I start to think I used too big of a pan. There is no turning back. Continuing to pour, and spreading all the batter evenly over the pan. I open the oven door, placing the cool pan into the warm oven.
I wait for it to bake. I drink my green tea and eat my lunch. I began to smell the fresh baked brownies cooking. This smell fills up my house. Pulling the oven door, the red light from the element shines on the brownies. I take my fork, poking to see if they are done. Nothing comes off the fork. I pull the brownies out and let them cool.
Taking a knife, I cut a piece of the brownie, placing in on my plate. Digging my fork in, taking a bite, the soft chewing brownie makes my mouth water.

Joshua – unprompted kiss + “Please tell me, this is not why you woke me up”
1k~ words - a thousand starlights event
You don’t often stay over anywhere, mainly because you can only comfortably sleep on your bed, and you may or may not be unnecessarily afraid of every single thing when you’re in an unfamiliar place at night.
You can only blame Jeonghan, really. You’re pretty sure you wouldn’t grow to be such scaredy cat if it’s not for your brother constantly feeding fear into your brain since you were a kid--when you’re old enough to understand Jeonghan was simply messing around because he wanted you to be dependant on him, it’s too late for you to let go of the fear.
But here you are, staying over in a villa with your close friends from university because it’s been quite some time since you met them, and Jennie has suggested a 2 days and 1 night vacation in a villa that her parents own to catch up properly.
You don’t mind hanging out with them, because your memories of these people mostly consist of good ones. But you’re really only still close with Joshua and Jennie so it’s a little awkward when you’re not with either of the two.
Which makes the situation you’re in a little more stupid than one would imagine. It’s somewhere near 3AM, you’re in a villa you’ve only been to once, and everyone’s asleep. But you’re awoken because your throat is dry and you’ve forgotten to fill your water bottle, so here you are trying your best to look for peppermints in your bag as a replacement to no avail.
You glance at the girls who share the room with you; everyone deeply asleep with no sign of waking up anytime soon. You contemplate going by yourself, but the water dispenser is downstairs and you know for a fact that Jihoon has turned off all the lamps before everyone retreated upstairs to their own rooms.
You really only have three choices here: sleep with your dry throat, wake Jennie up so she’ll come with you, or wake Joshua up so he’ll come with you. Well, you’ve only got two, really, no one in their right mind would want to wake Jennie up when she’s sleeping.
So you gather your courage to step out of the girls room, knowing full well that some of the guys are still awake because you’ve heard a violent thud and a hushed laughter from the next room just a few minutes ago. You quickly knock on their room once you’re out, praying that they’d quickly open the door so you wouldn’t need to stand by yourself in this dark corridor any longer.
It’s Junhui who opens the door, and you see that it’s Hansol and Soonyoung who are still awake with him. You whisper that you need to talk to Shua about something real quick, and he opens the door further to let you wake the guy up if you want so you happily take the offer and do exactly just that.
You could’ve just asked any of them to go with you, really, but you can’t imagine the awkward silence that would loom over the kitchen for the few seconds you’re going to get water and you’d rather wake Shua up because you know he would just whine a little and be done with it.
Starting by poking him, you get progressively more aggressive when the guy wouldn’t budge. He eventually wakes up though, eyes barely open when he sees you looking down at him. You don’t even say anything, and Shua is partly convinced it’s a dream when you pull him up by the hand and get him to follow you downstairs.
You only let go of his hand once you reach the kitchen and reach up to turn the lights on. The sudden brightness wakes him up though, and when he’s conscious enough to register why he’s in the kitchen with you, you’ve just finished filling up your water bottle as you innocently smile at him.
“Please tell me, this is not why you woke me up,” he groans as he realizes what’s happening. “I have only slept for two hours!”
“But my throat was dry,” you pitifully excuse. “You know I’m afraid to go down by myself.”
“You’re afraid of a lot of things,” he sighs as he shakes his head and rubs his face. “You’re lucky I think you’re cute.”
Shua jumps when you appear right beside him, tilting your head to the side to ask if he said something earlier.
“Nothing,” he exhales. Sometimes he’s truly not sure if he should be happy you’re this dense over his feelings for you or not. On one hand, he kind of wants to just confess and be done with it, but on the other, he knows you’re the type to get awkward with someone when you know they have feelings for you. So Shua would rather not risk it, really.
You narrow your eyes suspiciously at him, standing on your toes so you can see him closer. “What did you say.”
He pretends to be annoyed and covers your whole face with his hand to gently push you away, not wanting you to see how flustered he is by the sudden proximity.
“Tell me!” you demand as you pull his wrist that was near your face so you can pull him closer.
You didn’t think Shua would be caught off guard though, and he’s barely able to maintain his balance that his face ends up right in front of yours. You just stare at each other with wide eyes for a few seconds, both too flustered that your voice is caught in your throat.
When Shua doesn’t seem like he’s going to move away, you turn your head to the side to avoid his gaze.
“Hey,” his voice softly calls you, and when you turn to him out of reflex, your lips brush his by the slightest and it’s enough to get your face burning in a matter of seconds. You’re about to yell at him to cover the fact that you’re flustered, but Shua is calm enough to be able to gently take your face in his hands and then properly presses his lips against yours.
It was unexpected, and you actually spend a second or two blinking to yourself before you eventually close your eyes and follow his lips. When Shua finally pulls away to address the situation, he can only laugh when you turn away then tell him to shut up and go back to sleep.

Bye Bye, Baby (Hotch x Fem!Reader) -- one shot
May or may not have just written this in an hour. Also may or may not be based off the new Taylor Swift song. Based on this ask!
Also lmk if y’all want a part two because this does have an unhappy(?) ending, so...
Warnings: angst, mentions of being pregnant, mentions of puking
Word count: a lil over 1k
HOTCH MASTERLIST || Don’t You (Part Two)
Tumblr media
It wasn’t like in the movies.
You were foolish, you’ll admit, to think that getting your heart broken like this would be like the movies. Where he’d run after you, kiss you to make it better, confess his undying love, and beg for your forgiveness.
No, Aaron did none of that.
You knew dating a coworker -- your boss, rather -- would be a slippery slope, but you didn’t care. You thought he didn’t, either.
Until he called you into his office and broke up with you.
You wish there was something more to it. A big argument, an email from Strauss or even the director, a massive clash in lifestyles. But there was none of that. No one, not even the team, knew about your relationship with Hotch. There was no thinly veiled warning email from Strauss. Your lifestyles didn’t clash, they fit together perfectly.
But you guess “perfect” is never really as perfect as it seems.
‘Cause I still love you, but I can’t
You had thought it was because you were looking to transfer. You love the BAU, but you wanted to do something more. And to be frank, you were getting tired of seeing Aaron all day but having to pretend. You wanted to see him at home without the relief from pretending all day. You wanted to be able to tell people.
But when you brought up transferring to him, it didn’t cause an argument. He was supportive. You were foolish enough to assume this meant he wanted what you wanted, too. You didn’t know he would end things.
Luckily, having the transfer as an excuse for your departure made it easier. Everyone knew it was coming, your going away party was already planned by Garcia. Hotch conveniently left after half an hour because of an urgent phone call.
Bye bye, to everything I thought was on my side/Bye bye, baby
You transferred just two weeks after the breakup, and soon you were in a new apartment, at a new job, with a new life. You kept up with Garcia and Morgan, but only occasionally. Surprisingly, neither of them ever asked you about Hotch.
Despite it being a secret, you were almost positive they knew and would say something after you left, but it never came.
Months later, you went out for drinks with your new coworkers, but the night was cut short. You were one shot in when you threw up the first time.
You went back to your apartment, promising your coworker, Dannie, that you’d call her if you needed anything. Your promise was an automatic, autopilot response because your heart was hammering in your chest.
Your cycle has always been sporadic. When you realized you were a week late yesterday, you thought nothing of it. But now, you were panicking.
You wanted to go get a pregnancy test yourself, but the room was spinning and with every move you felt like you might puke again. So, keeping your promise, you texted Dannie.
She was at your doorstep in ten minutes, box of pregnancy tests in hand.
“Want me to stay with you?” She had asked.
You felt weird, having only known her for a short time, but you said yes. You didn’t want to be alone if the test was positive.
Letting Dannie stay was a good call.
All three tests were positive.
“Do you know who the father might be?” She asked, meaning well.
You nodded slowly. “Unfortunately.”
“Oh no,” she frowned. “Is he a jackass?”
You wanted to agree. You wanted to say yes, actually, he’s a giant jackass. But the truth is that Aaron isn’t and never was. He was nothing but good to you.
“It’s complicated,” you settled on. “Thanks for staying.”
“No problem,” she said. “If you’re good, I’ve gotta head out to feed Onyx.”
Her cat. “Yeah, go ahead. I’m okay. Thank you again.”
“It’s no problem,” she assured you with a smile.
Nine months later, you gave birth to a baby girl, Juliet, at six in the morning, and Dannie was there.
You asked her to be your daughter’s Godmother that night, and she said yes without hesitation.
+++
Four years later
Grocery shopping with a toddler is never fun, but damn does Juliet make it entertaining.
Currently, she’s trying very hard to convince you that she absolutely, without a doubt, needs these specific chocolate chip cookies.
“We have some at home already, munchkin.”
“I know,” she swings her legs, the zipper on her shoes clinking against the metal of the shopping cart she’s sitting in, “but these are...better.”
“Better, hm?” You raise your eyebrows, glancing up at the shelf to see if they have your favorite cereal. “How so?”
This single question keeps her occupied for another few minutes while you grab a couple of things from the surrounding shelves.
“Tell you what,” you start pushing the cart down the aisle. “If you promise to eat all your veggies tonight, then we can get the cookies.”
“Deal!”
“Alright,” you chuckle, tapping her nose lightly with your finger. “Let’s go get some veggies.”
That’s the plan, at least, until your cart rams right into someone else’s, and when you see who it belongs to, you nearly faint.
“Y/N?” Aaron asks, backing his cart up slowly.
“Hi,” you breathe.
Juliet turns around in her seat, scrunching her nose at Aaron. “Who’re you?”
“He’s my old boss, munchkin,” you explain quietly. “He’s not a stranger.”
Aaron’s heart twists painfully when you say old boss instead of an old friend or even ex-boyfriend. You’ve reduced him to an old coworker in your mind, but in his, you’ve always remained the greatest love he ever had.
“Hi Aaron,” Juliet says, then turns back to you. “Mommy, can we please get veggies? I’ll even eat broccoli.”
“Broccoli?” You gasp, Aaron completely forgotten for a moment.
Juliet nods firmly. “Anything for cookies.”
“Alright,” you reply with just as much enthusiasm. “Let’s go get some broccoli, then.”
You look back up to find Aaron watching you both with a smile, but a sad smile, the kind that you can’t quite place or read.
Truthfully, he’s at a loss for words. Here you are, after so many years, with a daughter who looks exactly like him.
“It was nice seeing you,” you say to Aaron, smiling brightly, smiling right through the pain.
“You too,” Aaron says quietly, letting you go for the second time.
There’s so much that I can’t touch/You’re all I want but it’s not enough this time
