no big deal (i love you)
moreid hanahaki wip based on this post
⚠️Content Warnings: emetophobia (coughing & throwing up flower petals), spencer's addiction & drug use
The first petals are white.
Small and delicate, white daisy petals crawl up his throat and decorate the pristine porcelain of his sink in the morning, not yet full or bloody, new enough to remain untainted by the torn tissue of his lungs.
Daisies, innocent and loyal love, holding his tongue, root in his chest, threatening to suffocate him if he leaves his feelings to grow, but the flowers don’t lie.
Call it innocence or naivety; Spencer won’t tell. He’ll hold his breath until he runs out of air, longing blooming like weeds, feeding on his life until only the flowers and a corpse remain.
At first, it’s slow, coming and going like the tide, feelings ebbing and waning with uncertainty.
He buries himself in books on the disease—hanahaki, hana (flower), haki (to throw up), a sickness that ails people who suffer from one-sided love, taking weeks to years to develop fully—and flower language, reading what every petal means about the longing ache in his ribs and how to cure it.
He goes to work—it isn’t bad enough to affect his performance—he profiles, coughs up petals, takes down unsubs, spits up his innocence, and flies home.
His case is slow; months pass before single petals turn into two or three and longer until the dull itch in his chest grows into a light ache when he exerts himself, his lungs reflecting his gradual, timid love.
The flowers change in Georgia.
The daisies stop coming, the drugs numbing his mind and body—his heart—concealing his love deep in his chest, buried where Charles Hankel and Raphael can’t reach.
They return in full bloom when Tobias revives him.
Spencer hacks up entire flowers on the cabin floor, belladonna, butterfly weed, cyclamen, and blood splattering against the ground, and even in its state, a part of his drug-and-death-addled brain recognizes the buds.
Silence, letting go, and goodbyes; flowers from the beginning of his gardener’s almanac burn like the fish hearts and livers in his soul as Tobias Hankel hauls him back from the dead.
He isn’t sure if the team sees the splashes of color, overfilling adoration through the camera, focused on sending a message, desperate to get out before he can cough up more symbols of regret, spilling his secret to his coworkers and friends– his family.
He argues when Hotch climbs into the ambulance beside him, feeling more flowers clawing at his throat, but the older agent wins, remaining by his side as the EMTs check his vitals, staying silent, even when the blooms come.
Bittersweet nightshade (truth) spills from his lips by the bushel, spurring one set of hands to hold a bag by the heaving agent’s chin to catch the fragile foliage, the others asking him a barrage of questions he doesn’t hear over his painful wrenches.
Hotch keeps the rest of the team out of his room at the hospital, telling them Spencer isn’t up for visitors as he chokes on pink camellias (longing), never bringing it up until the young brunette gets discharged less than 24 hours later.
He drives his agent home, offering to help him to his apartment, which Spencer refuses before the two linger in the car outside the building for a few seconds of petal-like, fragile silence.
“We’ll talk when you return,” He finally speaks, watching the younger brunette shift and fidget anxiously, clearing his throat and coughing into his elbow. “Take care of yourself; we’re only a call away.”
Spencer nods, silky petals and the taste of iron sitting on his tongue, and disappears into his lonely home.
The flowers stop while he’s on leave, too high for their stems to reach, losing time on the bathroom floor, buds withering with the body they’re feeding on.
The dilaudid numbs the fire in his chest—in his lungs and heart—eating away at the tissue the roots of his love buried themselves in until he can’t feel the stems in his organs, pollen in his blood, petals rising in his throat, and swallowed like his words, burning in his stomach.
“I love you” doesn’t linger on his tongue, waiting to spill past his lips with white chrysanthemums for truth, an admission after over a year of obstructed breathing, and when he’s high, he can almost convince himself that his garden died with Spencer Reid in the cabin in Georgia, at rest in the grave he dug with bouquets of daisies, of belladonna, butterfly weed, and cyclamen, nightshade, and camellias on the fresh mound of upturned soil.
Spencer tries to get sober before he returns to work, but there isn’t enough fertilizer—enough of his body, his dying cells—to sustain all the flowers he regurgitates in those 48 hours of trembling and heaving, purple hyacinths for sorrow and marigolds for grief; blood and bulbs litter his bathroom floor until he can’t breathe, darkness swimming in his vision, and the shell of Spencer Reid, a glass vase with everything on display, succumbs to his cravings, losing himself in oblivion.
He sits in Hotch’s office, pinprick pupils, and tells his boss the flowers and his feelings are gone, that it was the stress that made them bloom, not his genuine, heart-wrenching adoration for his best friend squeezing his organs like a sponge for every ounce of love, threatening to bleed him dry.
Spencer returns to work, profiling people who have experienced everything he’s gone through—enough trauma to break the human psyche—because he can think clearly for the first time in over a year, flowers and genius dying together as poison courses through them.
“I’m struggling.”
Despite everything—his team telling him they have his back, that they’re there for him, that they’re profilers, and Spencer is too high to hide his habit most of the time—Emily is the only one to call him out.
“Reid.” She approaches him after New Orleans, trained eyes seeing through him.
“Look, Prentiss, I’m sorry for snapping at you, but I’m not in the mood–”
“I’m getting waffles and milkshakes. Come with me.” It isn’t a question or an invitation as the older agent steps into the elevator, turning around expectantly, her gaze practically daring Spencer to run as carefully neutral eyes observe him.
He follows Prentiss with a heavy huff, shoulders sagging, his body too exhausted to fight, a familiar itch building in his throat as the doors close.

Chapter 1 - The Kids Aren't Alright
When we were young, the future was so bright,
The old neighborhood was so alive,
And every kid on the whole damn street,
Was gonna make it big and not be beat.
“When was the last time you saw Riley Jenkins?”
The question was posed to each of them in turn, one on one so they couldn’t corroborate their stories with one another, so they couldn’t confer and cover any tracks that may have been left behind. It was a tactic used by law enforcement to get the unadulterated version of events following a crime. They had to ensure they got the full truth of what had happened without outside bias. Each of them had been sequestered to their cabins, alone, whilst one by one they were dragged in the office to recount their side of the events that had led to this particular occurance.
One at a time they were all subjected to the same line of questioning from the stern woman who paid their wages, the power of the situation clearly going to her head. Erin Strauss took to the role of detective like it was made for her, and as though she wasn’t merely the manager of a summer camp that had seen better days. She’d stepped away from her post for no more than twenty four hours, leaving the most senior of her staff in charge, and a child had gone missing. This could be a media nightmare if she couldn’t ascertain exactly what happened in her absence that led to the disappearance of seventeen year old Riley Jenkins.
The once prestigious Break Away Camps had been the summer destination for the teens of Virginia. Back when Strauss had been just a counsellor the camp had been split into two, one for boys and one for girls. Several years ago now the camps had been brought out and merged into one: The Break Away Unity Camp, affectionately nicknamed the BAU. Strauss had been promoted and in all honesty it had been all downhill from there.
The money stopped flowing as much and they’d had to cut back on activities, their former staff now replaced by a mismatched group of wayward teens and twenty somethings. They had fewer campers with each passing year and Strauss knew it was only a matter of time before the BAU was sold on again, only this time it would probably be bulldozed in lieu of building luxury lakefront vacation homes.
If someone was to pose the same question to Erin Strauss as she was to her staff - when was the last time you saw Riley Jenkins? - she wouldn’t have an answer for you. If truth be told Strauss did not know the names and faces of the kids that descended on her camp every year. They came for two weeks, swarmed the camp and left before another group of kids arrived for their stay. This repeated all summer, how was she supposed to keep up? She spent her time in her office, rarely seen out and about and yesterday when the boy had gone missing she wasn’t even on site. She thought she could trust Hotch to keep an eye on the place for one day. She should have known better than to leave a twenty six year old expectant father in charge when he’d had bigger things on his mind. It was Hotch’s final summer working at the BAU Camp, trying to make some last minute cash before his son was born.
Strauss knew once the cops got involved and she had to explain that she’d left the camp in the hands of Hotch and the rest of the motley crew, she would be liable regardless of what happened to Riley. So she needed to get to the bottom of this before cops needed to intervene. She was not going down with the sinking ship that was the Break Away Unity Camp.
So she was going to grill her camp counsellors until she found out the truth of what happened to Riley Jenkins and if she was lucky they would find the boy before the cops needed to be involved. If she was unlucky she might have to cover up a crime. But she'd cross that bridge if she came to it.
One by one she hauled them into her office, stared them down and asked them the simple question: when was the last time you saw Riley Jenkins? And what she unearthed would be more than just a can of worms.
***
Twenty Four Hours Prior
“What do you know, kid?”
Spencer Reid pushed his messy hair back from his eyes and looked up from his chemistry textbook to see the ageing face of the Break Away Unity Camp’s resident chef staring down on him inquisitively. The older man slid a cardboard cup in front of him, his usual black coffee with three sugars no doubt, as if by way of bribing him for the inside scoop. The older man was a gossip hound, probably the only way he got through the day at his menial job. Spencer felt bad for him, it must be a boring existence to be surrounded by teens all the time.
“I can only assume you aren’t referring to my learnings on electrodes and potentiometry?” Spencer closed his book and kicked the chair opposite him so it slid out, welcoming the old man to take a seat.
There was a beat in which the man glared at him as though he were speaking an entirely foreign language before he shook it off like always when Spencer started talking chemistry.
“You assume correctly.” He sat down with a slight roll of his eyes. “I mean, what do you know about old Strauss? I heard she’s left for the day and left Hotchner in charge?”
“I find it ironic that you’re referring to her as old,” Spencer scoffed as he picked up the bribery coffee and took a sip. “But how could you have possibly heard that so fast?”
“I have my sources.” David Rossi wiggled his grey eyebrows at the young boy with a smirk.
It was barely six am and Strauss had left not a half an hour ago. The only people up at such an hour were Rossi who should be prepping for the breakfast rush, Spencer who ran on as little as a few hours sleep each night and Hotch who was probably trying to wrangle the other counsellors out of bed.
Spencer spent most of his mornings in the cafeteria with Rossi, usually with the older man trying to prize gossip out of him. Spencer being the quiet bookworm he was often heard things around the camp he shouldn’t have been privy to. They say the walls have ears, so do wall flowers. Although his shy and nerdy facade was mostly for show, not everyone was aware of this fact.
More often than not the young genius was awake by five, showered and dressed by quarter past and sitting in the canteen pouring over a textbook over a cup of coffee by half past. In the fall he was starting on his second PhD in chemistry and he'd no doubt have finished the course reading by the time his classes started. He’d been granted a scholarship but his summer job at the BAU Camp was a way to make money for school supplies. It was his first year working at the camp but he’d been coming as a camper since he was fifteen years old, right up until last year when he’d hit the cut off age of eighteen. Now at nineteen he was the youngest camp counsellor, but certainly the most reliable of them.
Spencer sipped coffee and checked his watch before pushing his chair back.
“Maybe you should spend less time hunting out gossip and more time cooking. You’ve got a half hour until the breakfast rush starts.”
As he got to his feet, grabbing up his book and coffee he noticed the panic wash over Rossi’s face while he hurried to his feet.
“Good advice kid!” Rossi was already scurrying across the hall towards the kitchen. “I’ll save you some waffles.”
“Thanks, Dave.” Spencer smiled to himself as he took a leisurely stroll outside into the blistering summer heat, cradling his book to his chest and sipping the remains of coffee.
Break Away Unity Camp was Spencer’s happy place, it always had been. It was two weeks of the year he could get away from all the expectations that came from being a child prodigy and an excuse to palm his sick mother off on his aunt for a short period of time. At BAU camp he could just be a normal teenager and Spencer relished that. Last year when he’d turned eighteen he’d had his mother committed to a facility so now he was free to spend the entire summer months working at the one place in the world he’d always felt safe.
The camp held great memories for Spencer. It was here at the camp, behind the sports building where he’d had his first kiss at sixteen years old with Alicia Martin. The following year he experienced his first blow job from his cabin-mate, Alicia’s brother Daniel. It was a week later in the same cabin that Spencer lost his virginity, not to Daniel, but to another teen named Joseph DiMarco. Last year he had his first sexual encounter with a girl, Alicia’s best friend Margot.
He’d spent so much time being the youngest of his peers and so he’d never had a chance to explore his sexuality. Camp allowed him to be around kids his own age and had led to an awakening of sorts for the young genius. Spencer came to the realisation that he didn’t care much about who he was having sex with, just as long as he was having sex with someone. His geekiness worked in his favour as no one suspected it from the sweet, innocent little genius.
That thought made him smile to himself as he headed past the campers cabins, further down the hill towards the counsellors cabins. Thankfully counsellors weren’t required to share housing, although it might have helped Spencer get laid if he had a roommate. But it wouldn’t deter him. The camp had only been open for summer for a few weeks and he had his sights set on a few of his fellow counsellors.
His own cabin was situated on the end of the boys row, his next door neighbour was the painfully attractive Derek Morgan, who despite his outward attempts at hitting on every woman on the staff, the way he looked at Spencer was not lost on the younger boy. Morgan might like to think himself as straight, but Spencer had a feeling he could be swayed.
As he padded up the slightly creaky wooden steps towards his cabin, the door to the cabin next door groaned as it was thrown open and heavy boots stepped out onto the porch.
“Morning, pretty boy.” Derek Morgan called across to his neighbour as he was slotting the key in the old lock.
“Good morning, Morgan.” Spencer replied, looking up at him through his wild hair.
He tried to hide the smirk from his lips as he noticed Morgan try to subtly eye him up and down in the way no straight man would. It made his stomach jumble into knots the way Morgan looked at him but he tried to brush it off.
“Coming to help corral the breakfast madness?” Morgan flexed his strong biceps as he stretched, the tight fabric of his burgundy camp-issued polo shirt hugging the muscles tightly.
Spencer was sure he did it on purpose.
“I’ll be right there. Just got to change.” Try not to imagine it, Spencer chuckled internally as Morgan swallowed thickly.
“Uh…right sure. See you soon.” Morgan quickly averted his gaze and started down the steps away from his cabin.
Once alone again, Spencer’s lips tugged up into a large smile as he unlocked the cabin door and slipped inside. The tension between him and Morgan was palpable and there was only one thing that would fix that.
Spencer shuddered at the mere thought as he quickly changed into his uniform and willed himself not to get too excited. The flimsy camp-issued shorts would not hide that kind of secret.
***
He pursed his lips and exhaled the smoke slowly, tilting his head back and watching as it descended into the air and dissipated. It felt almost poetic, the way in which he sometimes wished to be like that trail of smoke and be able to vanish so easily. He took another long pull on the cigarette, trying to shake himself out of the self-pity spiral he so often found himself in, and leant his head back against the wooden boards of the side of the boat shack.
His bare legs dangled over the side of the dock, the cool water from the lake lapping around his calves as those stupid shorts continued to ride higher up his thighs. He ignored them and focused his vision out across the water to the other side of the lake and the trees beyond and only briefly thought about hopping in a canoe and disappearing into the lush greenery forever.
It’s not to say that he was depressed, not clinically anyway. Luke Alvez just found sometimes that he’d quite like to be anyone else in the world other than Luke Alvez. There was no particular reason for the feeling the way he did, no catalyst to the onslaught of intrusive thoughts. Luke figured he was just born this way. He thought he’d grow out of it as he edged out of his teen angst, but now at twenty one he felt more lost and miserable than ever.
Working at this damn summer camp didn’t help matters either. The rest of the staff were all so pally, they’d mostly all worked together here for several summers and Luke felt a little like the newbie, the outsider. Admittedly they did try to involve him but Luke kept everyone at arm's length. There was only one person he mildly tolerated and that was more because she’d taken it upon herself to befriend him and not the other way around. So he wasn’t at all surprised when he heard footsteps heading up the dock behind him and he knew without looking it would be her.
“Can I bum one of those?” She spoke as she sat next to him, uninvited, crossing her legs beneath her on the deck.
Luke took another drag of his own cigarette before holding out the pack for her. He watched her light it before she smiled at him and took a long pull.
“Shouldn’t you be at breakfast?” He stubbed his cigarette butt out and deposited it with the others next to his boots.
“I could ask you the same thing.” Emily Prentiss smiled around the cigarette cushioned between her lips.
“Touché.” The slightest hint of a smile graced Luke’s features, the most anyone ever got of one anyway.
Luke lit another cigarette and they sat by the dock smoking in companionable silence. It was one of the reasons Luke tolerated Emily more than most, she didn’t force conversation from him, she was just as happy as he was with the quiet. And sometimes even a loner like Luke Alvez liked a little company.
In another life he and Emily may have made a good couple. In another life where he was straight and she was too. Not that they’d ever talked about their sexualities, they’d never talked about much at all, but he knew Emily liked women the same way she knew he liked men. It was an unspoken thing, especially for Luke who had never said out loud to anyone that he was gay. He could barely say it in his own head. But Emily knew somehow and Luke felt accepted without having to even say it. He appreciated that. He hoped one day if he ever had the courage to come out that other people would accept him too. He just had to learn to accept it about himself first.
The two of them waited out the breakfast madness together in the quiet reviere of the lakefront. Moments like this offered Luke some semblance of peace. If only it would last.
***
“Animals. Freaking animals, the lot of them.” Tara Lewis grumbled as she leant back against the wall and surveyed the chaos erupting around her in the canteen.
Kids aged between thirteen and eighteen scrambled for seats and shovelled food into their mouths like it was their last meal. If Tara had her way, it would be for some of the little shit heads.
“I swear there is no way my kid is going to grow up acting like this.” Next to her, Matt Simmons groaned in reply whilst folding his large arms over his chest.
Matt was only twenty four but he and his high school sweetheart Kristy already had a one year old son. Tara never thought it was appropriate to ask if he was planned, but she got the impression he was not. But Matt did have a sort of cool dad vibe about him, Tara felt comfortable around him because of it.
She let her eyes trail off of the destruction currently taking place in the canteen, across to the other side of the room where two other counsellors were watching each other instead of the kids. Half of their staff hadn’t shown up for breakfast this morning, they should all probably be doing more than just standing around. But it wasn’t Tara’s job to enforce that.
“What’s the deal with those two?” Matt was now looking where Tara’s gaze had landed at the two boys who couldn’t take their eyes off of each other and shared the occasional fleeting touch.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Tara chuckled at the boys.
“Uh, not to me?” Matt turned to her with a frown and Tara shook her head at his oblivious nature.
“Oh come on Simmons.” She playfully patted his broad shoulder. “If it were a girl and guy you’d have no trouble reading between the lines.”
Matt’s frown deepened as he turned away from Tara and focused back on the two boys across the room with an intense gaze. Tara could practically see the cogs turning in his head and when he turned back to her, his frown was replaced by a look of shock.
“Morgan and Reid? No way.”
“Morgan has been giving him the eye since the day Spencer turned eighteen. And now Spencer works here…” Tara trailed off with a shrug. “I get the impression boy wonder isn’t as innocent as he likes to make out. And Morgan is practically putty in his hands.”
“But…Morgan’s straight?”
That statement alone was enough to cause Tara to burst into laughter which only added to Matt’s confusion. Poor, sweet, naive Matt. She rode out her laughter before giving Matt’s shoulder a tight squeeze.
“So was I until I met the right woman.” She winked at him before turning on her heels and leaving him to stew on her words.
She didn’t necessarily have a destination in mind, she simply walked off for dramatic effect. Before she had to make a decision of where to go, Aaron Hotchner stormed into the canteen, his signature frown on his face and almost ran Tara down.
“Whoa Hotch, where’s the fire?” She held her hands out to stop him barging into her.
He barely even noticed her, looking over her head and glancing around the hall.
“What the hell is going on here? It’s like walking into a zoo.”
Tara could not imagine the uptight senior counsellor had ever stepped foot in a zoo, but thought better of saying that.
“They are a little rowdy this morning.”
“Why has no one done anything about it? And where’s everyone else? Alvez? Prentiss? Jareau? Garcia?” He looked at Tara now with a glare that could quite possibly kill. Like all of this was her fault.
“I mean I can have a pretty good guess at where Alvez is, where Alvez always is. But I don’t know about the others.” She offered him a shrug.
“This is unacceptable. Strauss is away for the day and she left me in charge and the kids are running riot! Come on Lewis, you guys need to do better than this.” Hotch spat but didn’t give Tara a chance to respond before he was storming past her.
She pulled a face, sidling back over to Matt.
“Apparently Strauss is out and he’s been left in charge and clearly the power has gone to his head already.” She rolled her eyes.
“Well then, I guess it’s his job to sort these kids out then.” Matt had to raise his voice to be heard over the growing crescendo of teenage yelling.
He glanced back over at Morgan and Reid who seemed oblivious to Hotch’s entrance and the mayhem ensuing around them. If Matt didn’t know any better he could have sworn Reid was giving Morgan come to bed eyes. It was almost sweet in a way, Morgan was always so confident around women but talking to Spencer he looked almost bashful. Tara was right, Morgan most certainly had a crush on the messy haired teen and if the rumours were to be believed about the quiet genius, he was getting laid more than anyone.
Suddenly he was startled out of his stare by a loud crashing sound, followed swiftly by…was that drumming?
“Alright you bunch of hoodlums, that’s enough!” A voice yelled and Matt turned to face it as did everyone else in the room.
Rossi had barged into the hall, violently smacking a metal pot with a wooden spoon while he yelled at the boisterous room full of young teens.
“Sit down, finish your breakfasts and be QUIET!” He bellowed, sheepish looks being sent his way from all over the room.
Morgan and Reid practically sprung apart and Matt noticed the way Morgan chewed his lip in embarrassment even though Rossi’s orders had not been directed at him.
Rossi stopped hitting the pot and silence descended on the canteen aside from the sound of soft shuffling from kids taking their seats and cutlery scraping on plates. No one messed with David Rossi, it’s probably why they’d kept him around so long.
Matt was impressed by the way in which he’d commanded the room and how all the kids were now on their best behaviour. He looked over at Tara who was smiling in amusement and then at Hotch who had a bewildered look on his face.
“You’re welcome.” Rossi smirked, patting Hotch on the shoulder before retreating back into the kitchen.
Hotch scratched the back of his head before shaking it off and turning his attention to Tara and Matt.
“Ok, that’s one problem solved. Now where is the rest of my staff?”
***
Penelope Garcia swung her legs back and forth as they dangled over the edge of the bench she sat atop of, toying with a small plush unicorn in her pink painted fingers. She’d been babbling on for several long minutes about her cat Sergio at home who she missed dearly and it didn’t even occur to her that her company wasn’t listening. She was so engrossed with talk of her beloved feline she didn’t notice the other girl hadn’t said so much as a word in the last five minutes. And when she finally did speak, it was obvious she had been entirely elsewhere.
“What do you think they’re talking about down there?” Jennifer Jareau chewed on her lip as she spoke, like she didn’t really want the answer to her own question.
Penelope frowned a little and followed her friend's gaze down the hill towards the lake's edge where she could see two people sitting side by side by the water. They had their backs to Penelope and JJ but it was clear who she was looking at. One wore an old leather jacket over his camp uniform despite the heat and puffs of smoke billowed around him every few seconds. The other's long dark hair shone in the sunlight.
Ignoring the mild annoyance she felt at JJ not listening to her, she gave the unicorn’s wool mane a soft pull before shrugging.
“Newbie barely talks at all, so I’d guess nothing much. Hopefully Em is telling him how utterly stupid he looks in that old jacket in this weather.”
“I didn’t know they were friends.” JJ huffed a little as she spoke.
“Oh em gee, Jayje!” Penelope suddenly grabbed her arm and started shaking her. “Please don’t tell me you have a crush on that moody new kid!”
“What? No way!” JJ grimaced, shaking the bubbly blonde off of her arm.
“Why do you care so much that he and Em are friends then? Huh? Huh?” Penelope teased, poking JJ’s cheek with the snout of her unicorn.
JJ pushed the plushie away with a frown, looking back down at the lake slightly wistfully. She almost wished it was Alvez she had a crush on. Life would be so much easier that way. But she wasn’t ready to tell Penelope the truth. So she sighed and turned back to her friend.
“Fine, I guess I do sort of have a crush on him.” She lied.
Penelope gasped and clapped her hands together, dropping the little unicorn in her lap as she did so.
“JJ! Oh my gosh that’s so cute!” She squealed a little. “Personally not sure what you see in mister tall, dark and blandsome, but each to their own. See I prefer some chocolate thunder.”
“Yeah. Right. Each to their own.” JJ mumbled as she turned back to stare at the back of the head with the long raven hair.
***
“You know we’re being watched, right?” Luke stubbed yet another cigarette out on the dock as he pulled his legs out of the water.
Emily chuckled lightly as she looked over at him.
“I can only assume by blondie?”
“Uh…if by blondie you mean JJ, then yes.” Luke shook the water off his feet and legs before pulling his socks on, ignoring the fact his skin was still wet.
“She does that a lot. Follows me around like a lost puppy.” Emily shrugged, pushing herself to her feet.
“Not your type?” It was strange of Luke to ask a personal question but Emily made him feel at ease. If he was to get to know anyone, he’d quite like it to be her.
Emily didn’t reply while Luke laced up his boots and stood up. When they were face to face again she had a twinkle in her eyes.
“I’m kinda already sort of seeing someone. But it’s a secret so pretend I didn’t say anything.”
“Who would I even tell?” Luke scoffed. “Are you happy?”
Emily sucked in a breath before a smile bloomed across her face.
“I am, yeah.”
Luke offered her a half-smile as he started towards the bank up to the main camp, Emily following behind him.
“I hope to find out what that’s like one day.” He replied.
Just then a certain messy haired genius came into view as he barrelled out of the cafeteria at the top of the hill. Emily didn’t miss the smile that tugged at Luke’s lips as he watched the young boy careen down the path in the direction of the counsellors cabins.
Maybe happiness was closer in reach than Luke thought.

That Friday, Derek had tickets for them to all go to a hockey game. They weren't all massive fans of the sport, but they enjoyed it well enough, plus, they enjoyed spending time together the ten of them.
The game was set to start in half an hour, so first: snacks.
"Damn you, Luke Alvez," Penelope said teasingly. "You got the last soft pretzel."
"Uh, yeah, for you," he replied, holding it out for her.
Penelope was taken aback. "W-what?"
"Yeah, I don't like soft pretzels, and I know they're your favorite, so I thought I'd get it for you. Besides, I got popcorn for myself."
"I could have bought the pretzel myself," she pointed it out.
"True, but maybe I wanted to treat you. Besides, I know you'd much rather spend your money on the Starbucks downstairs to get one of your fancy hot chocolates."
Her eyes went wide. "There's a Starbucks downstairs?"
"Yeah." He extended an arm to her. "Want me to show you the way?"
She looped her arm through his. "Please." She looked back at their friends. "We'll be right back."
JJ looked like she was going to explode. "If those two don't get their heads out of their asses soon I am going to shove their faces together and make them kiss."
Will rubbed comforting circles on his girlfriend's back. "Breathe, darlin', breathe. It'll happen."
"It fucking better."
"I'm with you, Jayje," Kristy told her. "They're driving me batshit crazy."
By the time they all made their way to their seats, they found Luke and Penelope were already there and seated next to each other, deep in conversation about something and seemingly oblivious to their approaching friends. "Ten empty seats and they sat together," Matt said. "And they expect us to believe they aren't stupid for each other."
"How much do you want to bet they'll say they only did it because they 'didn't want to block anyone else from getting in?'" Derek asked.
"I believe it," Spencer whispered back.
Tara looked at Emily. "They have to be close to getting together, right?"
"I fucking hope so."
No one had any idea how close they were indeed.
***
Partway through the game, the Kiss Cam came on. They'd all forgotten about that. Derek pulled Spencer close to him and kissed him.
"The camera wasn't even on us!" Spencer exclaimed.
"I know," Derek replied smugly.
Then the camera landed on Luke and Penelope. She went bright red as their friends started cheering for them, and Luke began stammering. "You don't have to kiss me, I understand, it's totally cool if–"
"Oh my god, Newbie, just shut up." Then she grabbed his face and kissed him, full on the mouth. Luke placed his hand on hers that was resting on his face and absolutely melted. When she pulled away, he had the most dazed and love-struck expression on his face any of them had ever seen. They all knew it wouldn't–couldn't–be too much longer before they were finally a couple.
***
After the game was over, Emily was walking past a supposedly empty hall when she heard Luke's voice. "Hey, I hope you didn't feel pressured or anything back there. You really didn't need to kiss me if you didn't want to." Emily knew she shouldn't, but she ducked behind a wall so she could listen in on their conversation.
"Oh, I know," she replied.
Luke's smirk was obvious in his voice. "So… you're saying you wanted to kiss me?"
Emily knew Penelope well enough to know her face would be bright red at that exact moment. "No…"
"Mhmm."
"Seriously, get over yourself," Penelope replied playfully, hoping to squash any remaining awkwardness. "That kiss was nothing."
"Well… if that's really how you feel, then fine, but it didn't feel like nothing to me. And for what's worth… I liked it. And I really like you."
Penelope stammered in shock. "You do?"
"Yeah, I do."
"Oh. I, um, I really like you too."
"So… could I maybe take you out to dinner sometime?"
"Um, yeah. You may."
"And… could I potentially kiss you again? For real, this time?"
Emily didn't hear a response, so she poked her head out of her hiding place and saw Penelope and Luke engaged in a sweet embrace. She snapped a picture and sent it to the group chat with the caption, It finally fucking happened!!!
Tara: HELL yes
Derek: In the Wise Words of Lizzo, it's about damn time!
JJ: Heads have been successfully removed from asses, I repeat, heads have been successfully removed from asses!
Emily watched as Penelope and Luke pulled away from each other, confused by the buzzing in their pockets.
Emily: Shit. Their phones were on vibrate. Gotta run.
Tara: Lol nice knowing you, babe 😂
Emily took off running and seconds later she could hear two distinct sets of footsteps following her.
"Emily Prentiss!" Penelope shrieked.
"I'm sorry!" Emily called back.
"No you're not!" Luke shouted up at her. He was correct. She was not sorry in the slightest.
***
Later that night, after about half an hour of squealing into her pillow, Penelope texted Luke.
Penelope: So… you wanted to take me to dinner?
Luke: I know I said dinner, but how about lunch? Tomorrow, maybe? If you don't have any plans.
Penelope: Sounds perfect. Can't wait ☺️
Luke: Me neither ❤️
That night, in different parts of the city, two teenagers fell asleep with the most giddy of lovesick grins plastered to their faces.

a not so beautiful disaster
summary : both morgan and savannah got shot and morgan keep refusing treatment until spencer came along.
pairings : medical doctor!spencer reid x derek morgan
word count : 1010
warnings : gunshot wound, hospitals, medical equipment, sedative, lmk if i miss anything
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
arriving at the hospital, i saw derek standing at the entrance of the emergency room surrounded by a bunch of doctors and nurses with him fighting them ofcourse. i immediately ran and calm him down before asking the doctors what happened.
"derek calm down," i said while putting my hand on one of his shoulder, "what happened to him?" i asked the doctor.
the doctor take me on a walk before explaining, "he went in with his wife and a gunshot wound, my guess is he'd been shot by the same person. luckily it doesn't hit any major vessels, about his wife, i don't know, but she came in in a pretty bad shape."
"and i'm guessing he has been refusing treatment?" knowing morgan, i knew that he wouldn't let anyone put him on a hospital bed unless he's unconsciouss, but after seeing the doctor nod, i decided to try anyway.
"can you get us in a room? with saline, gauzes, and a stitching kit just in case." the doctor looked confused but then he just go away and get the supplies i need. in he meantime, i got the hard part, getting him into a bed without having to sedate him.
i started with a classic "derek, you okay?" but he snapped at me, "cut the crap reid, i don't wanna hear you telling me that everything is gonna be okay because it's not!" i pouted knowing that it is true. i just want to hug him right now, but then i remember that i still have a work to do.
"i'm not, i promise, but you have a gunshot wound in your shoulder. let me take a look at it?" he didn't seem to change his mind so i pleaded, "please?" then he give a considering look before finally saying, "fine but make it quick." and that's all i need.
"can you move your arm at all?" i asked him and he let out a small nod alongside with a movement in his hand. no neurological damage, great.
now, the hard part. actually taking a look st the wound. "do you mind if i cut your top? i need to look at that wound." i stated, gesturing to the hole in his shoulder.
he nod once again and that made me even more concerned because i knew that he hated being in a hospital, but i got the chance to examine the wound so i took it. after putting my gloves on, i slowly reached to the wound and saw him flinced.
"sorry, but the next part might hurt more." i apologized. he just keep nodding with every question i asked. i was definitely worried about how he's doing but i decided to stay silent since asking how he's doing will just make it worse.
"now i'm gonna stitch you up okay? the lidocaine shot might hurt a but but i promise you, you won't even feel the needle after that." once again, he nod slowly.
i stitched him up and once i'm done with him, the team came into the room.
garcia was the first one to come in, and after asking me for permission to hug him, she opened her arms and just dive into him. next was jj, she asked me about derek and i told her that he's gonna be fine but needs a lot of rest.
after a few minutes chatting, hotch came into the room and by the look on his face, i knew that he had a suspect. i got out of the room so derek won't see or hear anything we're talking about.
"how's he doing?"
"the bullet nearly shatter his collarbone. a few centimeters under and he would've crushed it, but luckily, the bullet went through and through without hitting any major vesses or nerves."
"so he's okay?"
"physically? yeah, i mean i wouldn't want him running arround and kicking doors for atleast 3 weeks but mentally, i think it's way worse than his physical condition right now."
"so based on your professional opinion, is he ready to take this case?"
"he's still in shock. he didn't even say anything when i started checking him out hotch. he's disoriented and too worried to work right now, so the answer is no."
"okay, well you stay with him. i'll let you know if i need anything from you." i nodded before going back into the room.
everybody was looking at the door when i came in and hotch gestured for them to get out and start working on the case. seeing them slowly walking out of the room, derek got confused and start to ask questions.
"what's happening, is savannah okay?" he questioned anxiously. looking at his monitor, he has become tachycardic and soon after that, it started beeping.
"derek you've gotra calm down!" i shouted while trying to hold him down and taking a light sevadive to get his heart rate down. "they're just gonna take a look at the crime scene to see if the police missed anything. savannah is still in surgery and i don't think she'll get out any time soon." his heart slowly come down and once he's completely calm, he mumbled.
"i- i just- i can't lose her. or the baby- i can't stop worrying and i- i don't think i can handle this much longer reid." he had tears running down his fave and when you see derek morgan cry, that's a sign that it's serious.
"it's okay, i'm here. and while we can't do anything besides wait and pray, why don't you get some rest? i promise you i would be here all the time. i won't leave your side, and i'll also be the first person to know how savannah's doing." he hesitated at first, but seeing my pleading face, he pulled his blanket and closed his eyes. at this point, i just with that savannah make it out of surgery so i don't have to wake him up just to tell him that he lost the love of his life.

hanahaki au but it can take months to years to fully develop.
hanahaki au where the feelings that caused the disease can fade, taking the flowers with it, but you can never be sure.
hanahaki au where the amount of flowers ebb and wane depending on the person's emotionally state, their relationship with the person of their affections, and their relationship with their love for that person.
hanahaki au that reflects more than the character's emotions for the person they're in love with, symptoms seeping into their everyday emotions & decision-making just like their feelings.
hanahaki au where sometimes the scariest thing is how unsure you are about everything, but you have to make important decisions before it's too late without knowing when that is.

Hey Gang
Tumblr media
So to say the least I am ever so bored and looking to get some new roleplays up and running. First off the very most important thing to know about me is I'm 25 coming to you from the Cringy One Direction Roleplay era. So please please please be at least 18 but I would prefer 20 and up in a perfect world. I ONLY write on Discord in the third person. My minimum is two paragraphs and my max well she's all over the place typically around five paragraphs. I'm ghost and cringe-friendly. I love building playlists and interest boards for RPs and world-building and just all the OOC chit-chat you could dream of. I'm looking for romance and if all parties are comfy some spice in the plot along with everything else we could ever dream up within reason. I'm open to writing all pairing types and OCxCC or CCxCC but no OCxOC sorry! But I double! :) Fandoms and a little more about what I'm looking for in each one. Marvel/MCU/Comics: I am a die-hard Phlint shipper and I am always down to write them. I have hardcore missed this pair so damn much since Omegle left us. There are other canon ships I'm down to write as well the list is hella long and fluctuates with my mood so please ask and I'll happily supply you with that list and whom I write. I am also always down to write OCxCC for Marvel. I'm open to ABO and BDSM AU's in this fandom as well. Hobbit: I've kinda got a half assed OC/fan species idea but like fuck if I know. So like while I wanna say I would be down to write OCxCC I'm probably gonna lean towards CCxCC but you never know I might be in the mood to bust that sucker out. I'm all for Thilbo always have been. Have you read An Unexpected Addition by karategal on AO3? I've basically taken it as canon now. Anywho other ships also include Dworin, Dwori, and Boffins. WWE It's cringe I know but shit dude I love that silly wrestling. Ask me about it in the DM's if you're interested. We can work literally anything out. I love it all. Criminal Minds bring on the OCxCC or CCxCC would love to do a Marvel CCxCC crossover though I could be talked into an OCxCC cross over. Ships I kinda love em all for the sake of not making this post any longer I'll put in my top four but feel free to ask about others. Hotchgan, Demily, Morcia and Moreid Harry Potter Golden Trio I'm looking for OCxCC please don't ask me to play Voldy or like any Malfoy. Characters are 18+ so no Hogwarts sorry fam. Uh plots all I can say is buckle up I'm a little bit of a goblin. Marauders era OCxCC or CCxCC looking for alternate war endings. Rare pairs, and heavy world-building. Please do not ask me to write snape I can't go there.
Ok OK so last one and like this shit is hella specific so don't mind me I'm just being hopeful. Percy Jackson (TV series) I read book one years ago gonna start a read-through soon. I am Specifically looking for an AresxF OC of mine. I'm hoping to find someone flexible and willing to help me make sense of this cracked-out plot I've had bouncing around in my brain for weeks.
If any of this interests you please feel free to shoot me a message on Discord or interact with the post and I'll reach out.

Chapter 2 - Unwritten
I am unwritten,
Can’t read my mind.
I’m undefined,
I’m just the beginning.
The pen’s in my hand,
Ending unplanned.
“Jenkins! Jenkins look alive!” Morgan hollered but his words came a split second too late and the partially deflated basketball collided with Riley Jenkins shoulder.
The teen grumbled a little, rubbing his hand over where the ball had hit him and pulling his lips into a tight line.
Morgan rolled his eyes as he ran after the ball, for the first time glad that all the sports equipment was sub par as a fully inflated basketball would have hurt a lot more. He scooped the ball up and jogged back to Riley.
“You ok kid?” He cradled the ball under one arm and patted Riley’s other shoulder.
“Yeah I’m fine. Sports isn’t really my strong suit.” He mumbled, he always mumbled.
“No shit!” A voice came from the other side of the hall followed by an eruption of snickers and giggles.
Morgan whipped around and found the culprit, Max Hernandez, a cocky son of bitch who all the counsellors disliked. He knew by the look on the kids face that he’d been the one to throw the ball and he could tell it wasn’t an accident.
“Hernandez I hear language like that again I’ll have you packing.” Morgan spat at the overly confident teenager, his tone causing the boy to immediately stop laughing and avert his gaze to the floor.
The rest of the laughter died out pretty quickly and Morgan motioned Riley over to the bench on the far wall telling him to take a seat before he looked back at the other faces in the hall. Today they played ten a side basketball, tomorrow maybe soccer, the next day possibly tennis. It was all the same to Morgan, he coached from the sidelines, blew the whistle when the kids took things too far, tried to encourage those who actually cared about the sport they were playing. It wasn’t often he had to go full hard ass, but he gripped the ball tightly whilst gearing up to give these kids what for.
“Listen up you little punks.” He bellowed, his voice bouncing off the walls of the sparse sports hall. “Basketball, among a lot of other sports, is a team game. It isn’t about trying to make your squad look stupid, you have to work together if you want the win. I will not tolerate that kind of behaviour and if it happens again I’ll have you removed from all sports classes and you’ll do double duty in Jareau’s art class.”
His threat was met by many groans from the boys and girls. He didn’t mean to use JJ’s class as a form of punishment but it wasn’t exactly a secret that the kids weren’t the biggest fans of her photography lessons. Morgan actually thought it was quite cool, but clearly these kids had no appreciation for art. Hopefully no one would tell her of his threat, she was already sensitive enough without that blow to her psyche.
Thankfully none of the teens argued back, mostly all looking sheepishly at the floor and scuffing their sneakers on the ground and Morgan knew he didn’t need to say anymore. He checked his watch, grateful this group's time was almost up and hoping the next lot would be better team players.
“Go get cleaned up.” He dismissed them with a wave of his hand, retreating over to the bench as Riley jumped up, hanging back a little from his peers before finally leaving.
Morgan tossed the ball in the direction of the ball bin and slumped onto the bench next to the boy who had his head in a book for the past hour.
“Not sure how much you plan to learn about sports when you don’t actually watch.” Morgan nudged him in the arm as he closed the book.
“I get the general gist of what’s going on. Someone throws a ball, someone catches the ball, eventually someone tries to shoot the ball in the basket. Did you know that basketball was invented in 1891 by a Springfield College instructor named James Naismith?” Spencer smiled a tight lip smile at Morgan and Morgan swore his chest fluttered.
“I did not know that.” He tried to ignore the feeling.
“I already have a leg up on you.” Spencer didn’t mean that to sound dirty but somehow it did and he noticed the way Morgan averted his gaze from him.
“Uh yeah.” His voice cracked a little. “How about that cheap shot Hernandez took? I don’t believe for a second it was an accident. But then again, that Jenkins kid doesn’t exactly try.”
“I feel bad for him. I know what it’s like not to be good at sports.” Spencer sighed as he spoke, bad memories from high school gym class flooding back to him.
“Yet here you are still observing my sports groups.” Morgan looked back at him, a small sparkle on his eyes.
Being new and not particularly inclined to any activity that wasn’t classroom based learning, Spencer was observing activities to decide on which one to assist with at the camp. Unlike fellow newcomer Luke, who had instantly gravitated towards the sailing classes, Spencer had no idea where he would be of most use.
He couldn’t help but smile, maybe a slightly sultry smile as he leaned in closer to Morgan.
“Did it ever occur to you that it isn't the class I’m observing?” Spencer tried his luck, testing the waters to see how it would land on Morgan.
To his surprise, the older boy’s lip tugged up at the corner into a delirious smirk.
“Are you flirting with me, Reid?”
“What if I am?” Spencer dared lean in a little closer, catching the scent of Morgan’s cologne mixed sweat which made him a little heady.
Morgan swallowed thickly at the close proximity and his eyes kept flicking down to Spencer’s plump lips. But before any more could happen, the door to the sports hall burst open and the uproar of teens in the next group swarmed the building. Morgan practically sprang away from Spencer, leaping to his feet with a cough to clear his suddenly dry throat.
“Catch you later, Reid.” He croaked as he walked away, leaving Spencer chuckling to himself.
The younger boy collected up his book and hurried out of the hall, an electric current pulsing through his veins. Morgan wanted him, there was no doubt about it. And Spencer would let him have him.
***
Luke Alvez started every day at camp the same. After skipping breakfast and chain smoking down by the lake, he’d return to his cabin before his first group and he would masturbate. It was mostly for psychological purposes, the flood of endorphins released at orgasm allowed Luke to feel, even if only briefly, like he didn’t want the world to swallow him whole. It allowed him more tolerance towards the moronic teenagers he was supposed to teach, even if only in his first group of the day.
Of course if it was someone else’s hand that had brought him to completion and not his own, specifically the hand of an implausibly attractive genius, his high might last a little longer. It didn’t stop Luke from imagining it was Spencer’s hand though. It was a pathetic crush, one that would never come to fruition, mostly because Luke wasn’t comfortable enough to admit to liking men, even if he couldn’t help but think about one during his alone time.
It wasn’t that he was ashamed of being gay, at least he didn’t think he was. He just wasn’t prepared for it to define him as a person. Hell he wasn’t even sure who he was aside from the fact he liked men, so if people were to know surely that’s the only way they would see him. It was probably where a lot of his misery stemmed from, he didn’t get close to people because he didn’t want them to find out about him which led to an extremely lonely existence. Maybe if he thought about it at any length he would realise how dumb that was, but instead he spent his time thinking about how utterly miserable he felt and not how to fix it.
Once he was finished and cleaned himself up, he locked up his cabin and took a stroll down the hill towards the boat shed. Before coming to the BAU camp, Luke had never once sailed a boat, in fact Luke had never even stepped foot on one. But he found he took to it like a duck to water - no pun intended - he actually felt at peace when he was out on the water, as much as he ever had anyway. It turned out he was a natural kayaker and canoeist, something that surprised him about himself. If you took away all the annoying teenagers, he might actually enjoy his job.
He got down to the lake early and opened the boat shed, dragging out five canoes and five kayaks. The camp worked with twenty to a group, activities lasting an hour with a short break in between. Three activities between breakfast and lunch, followed by another two activities in the afternoon. The campers had free time until dinner and then there was usually some form of big group activity in the evening, usually a campfire with s’mores and someone on guitar. Honestly it was a little too all American for Luke’s liking.
He readied his equipment, sweat gathering on his brow from the sun's heavy rays on his leather jacket. He powered through, sneaking in a quick smoke before he saw the first group heading down the hill towards him. Five of the group would kayak, five would canoe and the other half would compete in a relay swim and play ball games in the lake and tomorrow they would switch. Luke mostly sat on the dock and observed, unless someone was drowning or something anyway. He hoped that didn’t happen, he was an ok swimmer at best. It really was a testament to the low bar set by the camp that he was able to take the job without having to prove he was a competent swimmer.
With any luck no one would ever have to find out. He needed this job more than most. It was about more than just the minimum wage he got paid. It was a roof over his head, it was free meals and safety. He didn’t want to think about what happened when the summer was over and he was out on his ass. If the camp was abandoned for the rest of the year maybe he’d get lucky and be able to squat in one of the cabins, he was an expert lock picker so it shouldn’t be too hard to gain access once he handed back his key. It would certainly beat living in his car. But that was a problem for another day.
He divided the group up at random and assigned them to their activities. As he was helping one girl into a kayak and giving her a little push down the bank and into the lake, he felt a presence behind him. Once the girl was safely paddling away. He straightened up and slowly turned to face the wide eyed, messy haired teen behind him.
“Did you know the original kayak boats were made from either driftwood, fallen tree trunks or sometimes even stretched animal skins over whale bones. The word kayak means man boat and originates from the Inuit word quayaq.” Spencer smiled at Luke as he spoke, a little animatedly.
“Wow, for real?” Luke had heard Spencer was smart but he’d never really had much chance to talk to him.
“Yeah!” Spencer beamed, nodding his head a little frantically.
“What do you know about canoes?” Luke leant back against the side of the boat shack, enraptured by listening to the younger boy speak.
“Well, excavations in the Netherlands show they were used all the way back somewhere between 8200 and 7600 BC.”
“No kidding.” Luke had a smile tugging at his lips.
“Pretty cool, huh?”
“Really cool.” Luke nodded in agreement. “How do you remember all that stuff?”
“I have an eidetic memory. I remember everything I read.”
“Everything?”
“Yah huh. It’s a blessing and a curse.” Spencer shrugged.
He’d shadowed Luke before but so far this was the most the two had ever said to each other. It was nice, Luke seemed genuinely interested in his ramblings whereas everyone else just seemed to tolerate it. He also really liked listening to Luke talk. And he liked his eyes. And his smile. And just about everything else about him. It was different than with Morgan. Morgan was extremely attractive and Spencer wanted him to screw his brains out. But Luke made Spencer’s heart pitter patter against his chest in a way he’d never felt before. Yes he’d very much like to sleep with Luke, but it was more than that. Luke had the kind of eyes Spencer could imagine waking up to every day for the rest of his life. And that was terrifying.
Spencer, much like Luke, didn’t make a habit of getting close to people. People he got close to either left or developed mental health issues. In Spencer’s mind he was the common denominator in both his mothers illness and his fathers leaving and because of that he didn’t let himself get attached. He used sex as a way to momentarily feel that closeness he longed for but didn’t trust himself to hold onto.
“I could have used you when I was in high school.” Luke chuckled, unsure of the last time he did that so much.
“You can use me whenever you want.” Spencer rolled his bottom lip between his teeth, meaning that in the dirtiest way possible.
Clearly Luke registered the innuendo as his cheeks flushed and he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.
“Uh…yeah sure. You know if I ever need to know the history or anything else I’ll be sure to use you.” His voice cracked several times as he spoke.
The tension rolled out of Luke’s in waves mirroring the one’s on the lake next to them, whether it was because he was uncomfortable or turned on, Spencer couldn’t tell. Luke was an enigma for sure, he would be a hard nut to crack. But that wouldn’t stop Spencer from trying.
“I look forward to it.” Spencer sent him a butter wouldn’t melt smile which seemingly caused Luke’s existing blush to deepen.
Luke didn’t reply, he didn’t really have anything to say. Instead the two boys stood staring at one another for a while, the rest of the world fading around them, leaving just the two of them and this seemingly perfect moment. But perfect never lasted. As quickly as reality had dwindled around them, it was snapping them back with a loud cry for help.
“Luke! Luke!” A female voice reached his ears and broke him out of his stare off.
He quickly spun on his heels to face the voice coming from the lake.
“Luke, help!” The girl's name was Paloma Simpson and she was frantically waving her arms over her head to get his attention. “She’s drowning! Help Luke!”
Next to her another young girl was sputtering and thrashing at the water that was lapping over her face. Luke was frozen to the spot, physically unable to move as the scene played out in front of him.
“Luke do something!” Paloma screamed but her voice sounded distant. Everything was so far away.
“Luke?” Another voice came from his side, Spencer this time.
Luke’s heart was drumming hard in his ears, pounding against his chest with its full force. He felt like he couldn’t breathe, he certainly couldn’t move. Spencer saw the panic that set in on Luke’s face and knew if he didn’t do something, Luke most definitely wasn’t going to. He tore his eyes off of the other man and back towards the girls in the lake. He didn’t think, he just acted. He suddenly started running towards the edge of the lake, dropping his book and whipping his polo shirt over his head and tossing it somewhere behind him. He managed to kick his shoes off without tripping, which for Spencer was a feat in itself. And before he knew it, he was diving off the dock and into the cool water below.
Everything that happened next seemed to go at double speed, looking back on it later Spencer wouldn’t even remember reaching the girl and dragging her out of the lake to safety. The next thing he remembered was kneeling over her on the wooden dock as she gasped for air. Luke still hadn’t moved an inch.
“Are you ok?” Spencer breathed heavily from the exertion and the adrenaline as he spoke.
“Y-yeah.” The girl, who’s name was Olivia, panted. “T-thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Spencer’s legs shook as he got to his feet and retrieved some towels from the boat shed. They continued to shake as he made his way back to where Olivia was now sitting up, Paloma next to her, and draped one around her shoulders. He wrapped one around his naked, wet torso and padded over to Luke who finally snapped out of his daze. He blinked several times at Spencer as the fog in his mind cleared, but the way in which the younger boy's wet hair fell in his face sent all his blood rushing south. However Spencer’s concerned frown stopped his excitement in its tracks.
“Luke, what happened?” Spencer asked softly, hugging the towel to his body.
“I…I don’t know.” Luke shook his head as the embarrassment flooded over him. “I just froze.”
“It’s a good job I was here.” Spencer felt bad for Luke as he was clearly mortified by his freeze up but he hadn’t exactly enjoyed playing lifeguard.
“I’m so sorry.” Luke swallowed thickly, feeling a complete fool. Not only had he completely messed up but he’d done it in front of Spencer of all people.
Spencer shrugged with a small sigh, glancing back at Olivia to make sure she was alright before looking back at Luke.
“I guess this is where I’ll be the most useful.” He didn’t mind, at the end of the day it would mean getting to spend more time with Luke. But he did also like spending time with Morgan, although admittedly, sports was never going to be his summer activity pick.
He supposed this way he’d get to pass the long days by the lake with some beautiful scenery, and he didn’t just mean the landscape. As long as none of the kids tried to drown again it might be a nice way to spend his days. It was at least better than being stuck in a sports hall or a computer lab with Penelope or godforbid hiking with Tara.
Luke was still just standing there consumed in his embarrassment while a soaking wet Spencer gathered up his t-shirt and shoes he’d discarded on the dock.
“I’m going to shower and get a dry uniform. I’ll speak to Hotch and let him know I’ve found my calling.” Spencer spoke a little sarcastically.
When Luke simply nodded in reply, he wrapped the towel tighter around his small body and padded away on his bare feet. Luke watched him go feeling like a complete fool. He thought he wanted to disappear before, now he wanted to vanish into thin air.

We Fell in Love in October, Chapter one - October 1st: The Deal
Shout-out to @gaelic-symphony for beta reading for me
Summary: It's October, and Emily Prentiss doesn't feel like being single for unofficial "lesbian month." What happens when she asks her friend, Tara Lewis, to be her girlfriend for the month? Will it last longer, or will a beautiful friendship meet its bitter end?
Word count: 1266
Can also be read here on Ao3
"Happy lesbian month," Emily Prentiss muttered as she slid down the wall to sit next to her friend, Tara Lewis, as they ate lunch.
Tara looked up from her psychology textbook questioningly. "It's October? Not June?"
"Exactly. We Fell in Love in October. Girl in Red."
"Oh, right. You know, for a lesbian, you don't seem too thrilled about it being 'lesbian month.'"
"I'm single, Tara. A-fucking-gain. I want someone to fall in love with me during October!"
"Okay, felt," Tara admitted.
That was when Emily got an idea. A terrible idea. A wonderful idea. A dangerous idea. This described most of her ideas. "Okay, hear me out…"
Tara groaned. "Emily, you are my friend, and you know I love you, but nothing good ever comes of you saying 'hear me out.' Ever."
"No, this isn't that bad, I promise!"
"Okay," Tara relented. She had never been good at stopping herself from being roped into Emily's shenanigans. It was something about the other girl's charm. "Let me hear it."
"So, you know how we dated for August first so that neither of us would be single for National Girlfriend Day?"
"Yes…" Tara said, unsure as to where Emily was going with this.
"So what if we dated for October so neither of us are single for lesbian month?"
Tara's eyes went wide. "Emily… you do realize that there is a huge difference between a day and a month, right?"
"Yeah, so? It'll be fun!"
"You have been reading way too much fanfiction."
"There is no such thing. Catradora and Tardarcy are my everything."
Tara shook her head, laughing. "You are insane. Seriously. This is not a good idea. Dating for a month? The chances of actual feelings coming out of that are high, that's basic psychology. What do we do if that happens? I don't want to lose my friend because we were both lonely touch-starved gays who wanted to live out a lesbian fanfiction."
"If that happens then at the end of the month we'll have an actual discussion on if we want this to continue like the mature almost-adults we are."
As sudden as this was, Emily seemed to have thought through the consequences, at least briefly. Tara didn't really have another argument other than I'm already in love with you, and this will absolutely destroy me if you don't end up feeling the same way, but she didn't exactly feel like saying that at the moment. With a sigh, she gave in. "Fine. Yes. Okay. Let's do it. I will be your girlfriend for October."
Emily's face lit up. "Really?"
"Yes," Tara replied, reaching over to take one of Emily's fries.
Emily slapped her hand away. "Hey, what?"
"A good girlfriend would share her fries, Emily," Tara teased, shoving a handful of fries into her mouth.
"Oh fuck you," Emily teased back.
"That's very forward of you, Emily Prentiss. I didn't realize you were that kind of girl."
Emily's face went bright red. "I that's not what I– can we just agree that for the purposes of maintaining our friendship… that won't happen?"
"Oh no, obviously it won't," Tara agreed. "I was just teasing."
"Okay." Emily stole one of Tara's chicken nuggets.
Tara's jaw dropped. "Oh you did not."
"A good girlfriend would share her chicken nuggets, Tara."
***
"Tara," Luke admonished.
"I know," Tara groaned into her hands. As soon as she had gotten to class she had spilled the details of her deal with Emily and their new relationship to Luke Alvez and Matt Simmons, her best friends. "I know, it was stupid, but I just…"
"Couldn't say no?"
"I couldn't say no."
"Tell me why I'm not surprised," Matt said.
"Because you've known me for years and know I am in fact a useless lesbian who becomes absolutely stupid when a pretty girl even smiles at her?"
He laughed. "Yeah, that's about it."
"It's okay," Luke said, shoving her playfully. "We still love you."
"Oh you're one to talk," Tara said.
"What do you mean?"
"You think you're much better when a certain captain of the coding club even breathes in your direction?"
His face went noticeably darker by a few shades. "Shut up," he whispered.
It was at that moment that said captain of the coding club, Penelope Garcia, walked into the room. "Hey, Matt. Tara." She faux-sneered at Luke. "Newbie." He hadn't even been the new kid for years, but she called him that and it stuck, and he secretly loved that she had a special nickname for him.
"Chica," he returned with a smirk.
Penelope rolled her eyes and kept walking.
Matt had to stop himself from bashing his head on the table. "I need new friends."

"Oh, Emily, you didn't," Derek Morgan laughed.
"I did."
"I'm impressed. I didn't realize you had it in you. Hey, Pretty Boy," Derek called to Spencer Reid as he sat down beside the pair. "Want to fall in love with me this October?"
He laughed. "Derek, we've been dating for three years now. You can stop using pick-up lines on me." Spencer was a year younger than the rest of them, but wicked smart, so he'd been bumped up a grade.
"Never," Derek said, with a kiss on his boy's cheek.
"Gay people disgust me," Emily said, averting her eyes.
"Emily, babes, we've talked about the self-loathing," Jennifer "Call me JJ" Jareau said as she sat down behind her best friend.
"Derek and Spencer are being gross again."
"You're just saying that because you're sad you're single," JJ told her.
"Actually…" Derek said, a cheeky grin on his face.
JJ gasped. "Emily! Do you have something to tell me?"
Emily relayed the whole story back to JJ, who sat there shaking her head the whole time.
"When I told you to do something about your crush on Tara, I did not mean propose the plot of a rom-com," the blonde said. "I meant ask to get coffee or something over lunch break. Jesus, Emily. Are you always this extra?"
"JJ, do you know me at all?"
JJ let out a small snort of a laugh. "Fair enough. So what are you going to do?"
"Well I can't exactly back out now. I'll just take it one day at a time. See where it goes. Enjoy the time I have with her, even if it's temporary."
"Simp, " Derek teased.
"Says the man who sat through the entirety of Star Trek with me while I added my own commentary because someone picked on me in the cafeteria one day," Spencer pointed out.
"Boy, shut your mouth."
Spencer grinned, cheekily. "Hmm, no, I'm good."
Emily groaned. She loved her friends, but sometimes their flirting could get a little much. "Get a room or shut up. Please."
"Technically," Spencer said. "A classroom is a room."
Emily glared at him. "I am giving you three seconds to rescind that comment."
"Comment rescinded."
"Yeah, that's what I thought."
***
"So, as your girlfriend for the next month, at least," Tara said when she showed up at Emily's locker at the end of the day. "Is it my job to walk you home at the end of the day?"
"Well you don't have to, but I certainly wouldn't complain," Emily replied.
Tara extended her hand. "Well then, shall we go, m'lady?"
Emily placed her hand in Tara's. "We shall."
When Tara dropped Emily off at her house, she also dropped a kiss on the back of Emily's hand. "See you tomorrow, girlfriend." Emily grinned and fought to keep herself standing. "See you tomorrow." Oh she was so incredibly fucked.

🏷 Is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read? And 💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?
Hello, sweets! Thank you for the ask ♥️
🏷️Is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read?
I usually only search for a specific tag when I'm doing research, so to speak. Say I'm writing an Outsider POV myself and I want to see examples of who's done it well. Occasionally I might search for rare tags just to see if anyone's done them in my fandom (ie, sci-fi AU). It's curiosity in that instance.
When looking for fics to read for pleasure, then I rarely search for a tag but I typically adjust the rating to show Explicit fics. Esp if its a new ship. I fell into moreid recently and the first thing I did when searching for fics was to filter for explicit ones. I wanna see them bang, what can I say.
💛 What is the most impactful lesson you've learned about writing?
This is a great question. I thought I might need to ponder long about it but I didn't have to. There are lots of lessons to learn from such a demanding time-consuming creative activity (persistence, perseverance etc) but the most important thing to remember is to be yourself. To write what is most indulging to you. To bring yourself on page as much as possible.
It's harder than it sounds. Consciously or subconsciously, we're all part of a community and it's easy to get influenced by what others write, what's popular, what made an impression on us, and so on. It's harder to look at the page and say "what is it that makes me tick, no matter how weird and stupid it is?" It's harder to say "what is it that I think about this character and relationship that might differ from what fandom believes?"
That's one reason why original fic is so hard. In fandom, the existing or popular interpretations of characters can carry us through to writing a fic, but in original writing we have to figure out who these people are ourselves. No blueprints.

Hiya! I’m Izzy 23 she/they and 20+ is preferred but 18+ is also okie dokie. I’ve been roleplaying for about 10 ish years I’m looking for roleplayers who write in the third person and between two and five paragraphs. I only write on Discord so please be willing to move over there. I’m mainly looking for plots containing romance, angst, fluff, hurt, and comfort. If you’re comfortable, I’m open to roleplaying NSFW themes, ABO, and in some cases poly relationships. All of that being said all Characters will be 18+ at the very least. Fandoms I’m looking for Yellowstone: I’m mainly looking for OCXCC I’ve never actually roleplayed for this fandom before but like I’ve got all this muse and nowhere for it to go.
Marvel (MCU and Comics): I’m open to OCxCC, CCxCC, ABO, and Poly in this one I love world-building and meshing MCU canon with comic Canon and our own idea’s as well. If we’re doing CCXCC I do have a distinct preference of M/M pairings but I am open to some M/F and F/F and other paring combinations. I have an insanely long list of ships and characters I play so if you’re interested please just ask me for it and I’ll send it over rather than putting it all here. Harry Potter (Marauders Era after graduation only): I’m open OCxCC and CCXCC I adore world-building for this one and bending Canon to fit our liking. I do also prefer to have multiple characters and moving parts in these plots in the background. I also have a hella long list of characters and ships that’s ready upon request. Though if I had to say what my biggest muse for this right now is Dorcas MeadowesxRemus Lupin.
For Harry Potter, I also have a platonic plot centered around James and Remus in an AU where James and Harry survive and Lily dies.
Criminal Minds: I’m open OCxCC, CCXCC. ABO and Poly ship here as well. I like to have a nice blend of slice of life and other things with a little bit of casework. Basically the reverse to what the show gave us. The ships I’m looking for are Hotchgan, Moreid, Demily, Davily
Supernatural: I’m just looking for OCxCC here uhmm it’s been a hot minute since I’ve roleplayed this fandom. I think I’ve seen up to season ten for sure? I am planning on finishing it soon. I think my OC would pair up nicely with Dean or Cas but I’m open to your suggestions as well.
I do double up and honestly I really enjoy it. I work and I’m a college student so response times vary. I try to respond daily but some times it takes 3-5 days if it’s going to be longer, I try my best to let you know ahead of time. Sometimes I literally have no idea what day of the week it is because my executive function is weak. All that aside I love to plot, brainstorm, world build, share media and playlists, and just all the things with my partners. I also adore OOC chatter.
If this interests you please feel free to add me on discord at noneherself#8063 Or like this ad and I’ll be in touch real speedy like.
