Bodyguard AU - one where people don’t realize Luke’s a Jedi for whatever reason.

(The Rebel Alliance/New Republic didn’t want to put his face out there, or other reasons that meant not making a particularly tasty target out of him for his/their enemies, because only Jedi and such???)

Din as Mand’alor who’s been receiving death threats (lol) because there are plans to have Mandalore join the New Republic and people are Not Happy about that.

Threats from both sides of the table and Din is (mostly) unbothered because it’s not the first time someone’s wanted him dead. The inconvenient thing this time is that he can’t deal with the threats personally. Also, he’s got the kid to consider now, so.

Leia and whoever else decide that as Din’s going to be traveling to them for political talks and such he’s going to need a little more than the average security detail, so in comes Luke, right?

Which.

Imagine Bo-Katan as one of Din’s advisors seeing Luke walk in who claims to be the head of Din’s official security detail and is just deeply unimpressed and also “Are you trying to insult us with this farce?”

Because Luke. 

The rest of the security detail are what you’d expect of course or - and I’m really kind of fond of this - Wedge and his Rogue squadron being tapped for it because reasons.

Officially Rogue Squadron is there to fly escort and such and it makes sense to keep the people involved to a smaller group, idk.

So first impression the Mandalorians get is of Luke who is far from an imposing figure on a good day and this group of military pilots who can, on occasion, look the part of proper military personnel or something???

It’s assumed Luke got this assignment because he has connections within the New Republic and also former poster boy for the Rebellion and so on.

(They kept the Jedi thing need to know, but everything else was fair game, and good for morale during the war, and anyway. Yes.)

But then, okay.

Then there’s the thing where Luke is still Luke and Wedge and the Rogues are the absolute worst.

But also the thing where there’s clear respect between them and they work well as a team, and also the part where Luke chases an assassin across rooftops and the whatnot like it’s just a thing he does when they take a shot at Din.

Also the thing where Luke leapt into action to protect Din in the first place, going from friendly affable looking idiot to Luke Skywalker, Master Jedi and so on, and Din being like ??? at the sudden shift because they were talking about the dumbest thing possible at the time???

Bo-Katan twigs to the fact Luke’s a Jedi before the others because of course she does, but it takes Din an embarrassingly long time because for whatever reason he doesn’t see Luke use his lightsaber in front of him until a Dramatic Moment.

(And because reasons Bo-Katan doesn’t tell anyone she knows Luke’s a Jedi, or maybe just Koska and Axe??? Also, entertainment value, so.)

Other shenanigans in which the Mandalorians realize that okay, maybe the New Republic/whoever weren’t trying to insult Din when they assigned Luke and the Rogues to protect him.

More assassination attempts in which Luke tackles Din to the floor at least one (1) time in there, close proximity and oh, hello there, so sorry to infringe on your personal space like this, but the guy with the blaster/gun trying to kill you, I hope you understand, and Din being “...” because he has so many feelings he doesn’t know what to with at the moment okay.

Late nights around the kitchen table in the suite he and his people have been assigned to. Grogu refusing to leave his side after a close call earlier that day even though he’s fighting sleep all the way tucked safely in Din’s arms, but he needs to know his dad’s okay, and just.

Luke pulling up a chair after coming into the kitchen to make something warm for them to drink, and quiet conversation that trails into easy silence and all things they don’t say because reasons.

(Duty and Responsibilities and no room between them for feelings, not with who they are.)

Sabacc games with Wedge and the Rogues and these stories of Luke from the war and Luke being like “I still outrank you,” to Wedge in a futile attempt to keep him telling the more embarrassing ones.

(Grogu learning new and exciting ways to cheat at Sabacc because of course he already knows how to cheat, give him some credit.)

Conspiracy of sorts between Din’s enemies - Mandalorian and not - teaming up to make him super dead because reasons.

Din and Luke being separated from the main group because someone grabs Grogu to use as leverage, and Din grudgingly agreed to leave it to Luke’s team, but c’mon, that’s his kid.

So Luke’s ready for it when Din takes off in the middle of the night - supposedly locked away in his rooms because he’s beside himself with feelings and such - while everyone else is strategizing.

Wedge is like SIGH because of course they all saw this coming, that Luke would leave him in charge of things while he hared off after Din to get the kid back, why do they even pretend something like that won’t happen???

(Because reasons, and also they have to least make it look like someone’s doing things the proper way and such so they don’t come off as complete lunatics in the after action reports and such. Also, it’s kind of nice to play the cavalry sometimes, so.)

Shenanigans in which Din and Luke almost get killed a few times just on the way to get Grogu - at least one (1) minor injury that requires one to patch them up in hidey hole somewhere.

(Lingering touches and meaningful looks and more things between them they don’t give voice to because there’s no time for them, now or ever, most likely.)

And then!

Face to face confrontation, and of course, of course, Gideon’s one of the people trying to kill Din and get his grubby hands on Grogu.

Pew-pew blaster fights and such until it’s Din and Gideon while Luke goes after Grogu - not happy about it, but he knows he Din’s not going to give on this, and anyway, yes.

And then just as Din gets the upper hand in come, idk, Dark Troopers or whatnot while Gideon scurries off and Din’s Very Tired Sigh because not these assholes again?

Thinking it’s a Last Stand kind of deal, but then Luke - stupid, stupid Luke - shows up with Grogu and Din’s like !!! because feelings!!1!

And he gets thrown across the room in a moment of inattention - staring at his kid and Luke in horror because no - and that’s when Luke sets little Grogu somewhere safe.

“Stay here, Grogu.”

(Like he thinks the kid will actually stay put, but whatever.)

Luke breaks out his lightsaber - he actually has used it before now, just never where Din saw, because reasons - and goes to town on the Dark Troopers while incidentally making it very, very clear he wasn’t assigned as part of Din’s security detail because of his connections.

Also, Din is like oh no, he’s hot because really.

Grogu makes his way to Din while Luke’s busy shredding the rest of the Dark Troopers - Force pushes a Dark Trooper into a wall or when it gets too close like it’s nothing because of course Luke’s been training him on the sly - and Din scoops him up because his kid.

And then, finally, it’s just the three of them and the broken remains of Gideon’s platoon of Dark Troopers and Din is like “...” because, well, reasons.

Luke has this expression on his face when he turns to look at Din and Grogu because no hiding the whole Jedi thing now, if that was still a thing, and anyway.

Wedge and the others get there at the same time and there’s a lot of noise and chaos as they secure the cruiser - “You’ll never guess who we caught trying to leave,” “Gideon?”, “Well go ahead and ruin the surprise then,” - and so on.

They hustle Din and Grogu back to Coruscant or wherever because with this last attempt at getting rid of Din the conspirators exposed themselves and Leia and others are more than happy to take care of that mess.

And then!

Political talks and suchlike that’s mostly a blur to Din, because.

With the main threat against Din out of the picture his security detail’s been downgraded to the usual one delegates get.

Highly competent and professional, but that’s the problem after recent events.

(Because reasons that involve ~feelings.)

And then!

The day Din and the other Mandalorians are to leave for Mandalore and he’s making sure everything’s packed, that Grogu has that little knob off the Razor Crest because he’d be inconsolable if he lost it (again), when there’s a visitor at the door to his suite.

And of course it’s Luke.

All awkward and unsure of his welcome, which is ridiculous, but ~feelings, so now they’re both awkward idiots, but then this litlte rush of courage and Din pressing his forehead to Luke’s just before he has to leave.

Luke being all !!! and there’s definitely a blush because he’s gotten something of a crash course on Mandalorian customs and the whatnot in all of this - one of those late-night talks in the kitchen or wherever, or a Sabacc game and stories of love and loss and so on - and anyway.

Luke escorts Din to the ship where the rest of the Mandalorians are waiting - “I may or may not have pulled some strings to do it,” he confesses when Din asks about the regular security detail, which gets a laugh out of Din - and then it’s goodbye because Duty and Responsibilities and so on, and feelings don’t fit in there for people like them, you know?

Din goes back to Mandalore to lead his people into a new age and he kind of hates it at times.

(The stupid frustrating bits of dealing with hardheaded individuals and two-faced politicians and such, but it’s not too different from the kind of people he dealt with before stumbling into the role of leadership the way he has, so, you know.)

And then!

A delegation from the New Republic arrives for whatever reasons, and Din’s like SIGH because more politics???

But Leia’s one of the people arriving and she’s one of the few people he met in the New Republic he feels genuine respect for, that he trusts, so it probably won’t be too terrible?

And then, okay, and then.

When the delegation disembarks who should be there with Leia but Luke?

Because security detail or some other reason, makes total sense. Din doesn’t feel any kind of way seeing Luke climbing out of the cockpit of one of the X-wings flying escort, goodness no.

(Of course he didn’t come here to see Din, don’t be ridiculous, Djarin. Also you knew he was a starfighter pilot in the war, so. Yes.)

But after all the social nonsense has been seen to - delegates settled in their rooms until dinner later that night and so on - Din gets a visitor to his rooms.

It’s Luke, because of course it is, all bashful smile and awkward uncertainty and an all too familiar little metal ball in his hand Din swore Grogu had on the trip back to Mandalore all those weeks, months, however long ago.

“I meant to return this sooner, but,” Luke shrugs, because things happen and plans go awry and anyway.

Feelings!!1!

And also the pitter-patter of little Grogu feet as he scampers in making grabby hands for his most precious of treasures, and it’s all kinds of awkward to keep talking in the doorway like this, so of course Din invites Luke inside, and anyway, anyway.

Did Din know that Luke and the New Republic decided the need-to-know aspect of him being a Jedi is no longer a thing anymore?

Which.

That’s nice to know, and don’t get Din wrong, but what does that have to do with him?

Luke just looks at him, and Grogu pops his head into the room to give Din a look, seriously???

Because.

Duty and Responsibilities, sure, but now, okay, now.

Luke can think about building that school of his, a future with a Jedi Order that won’t repeat the mistakes of the old one an so on, because look at how well they did with their thing about attachment. Come on, Din, get a clue already.

Anyway.

No knowing if Grogu wants to be a Jedi one day, but he’s not opposed to Luke training him to learn control and other important bits regarding his own powers, but Luke wanted to talk to Din about that first, what with him being Grogu’s dad in every way that matters, and -

“Wait.”

Because that sounds an awful lot like Luke being around for something like that???

Luke gives him another look, but this one’s all fond and affectionate and a little you idiot in the softest way possible, and oh.

Assorted other feelings and Leia and Grogu definitely not laughing at the two of them, and turns out there’s a reason Luke came to Mandalore in his X-wing when Leia and the others leave for Coruscant and Luke’s standing next to Din when their ship takes off, you know?

(Also, also, Bo-Katan and the others give Din shit for forever for falling for a damn Jedi of all the people in the galaxy, he had to go for one of their ancient enemies, even if it is Luke.

Because Luke.)

1. the No Time Series (yes, I am planning a series, I've already gotten most of the timeline written down) fix-it where Anakin doesn't fall to the darkside, but as a backup plan Palpatine punts him into the timestream (bc he clearly has some kind of access to that force nexus thing in rebels) and sends out a clone he made of Anakin (complete with warped memories) to play out the rest of RotS and become Vader

The title, and also all of the titles of the fics in the series come from the lyrics of No Time because while I was coming up the idea, that song was frequently stuck in my head and the lines seemed oddly apt despite the fact none of the actual subject matter has anything to do with star wars, or anything that happens in the fic

This also includes:

Qui-Gon lives (bc of Dooku shenanigans) but is trapped on a planet neither he or anyone else who lands/crashes there can leave until Ahsoka, Rex, Feemor and their respective battalions (I Do Not See Victory and Death what do you mean Jesse died he's right there) crash shortly after order 66

Anakin finding his way back to his own time and stealing back his men (and then a bunch of other battalions) from Vader

Fives and Tup both live bc reasons

A reunion on Vader's star destroyer in which everyone shows up to rescue either the person undercover, the person who got captured, or the people who hared off do do the rescuing by themselves and everyone has a very, very, weird day

2. Another Qui-Gon lives au set during the Clone Wars where he has very specific amnesia caused by hiding so thoroughly hiding the force that he couldn't be seen or sensed. Ahsoka finds him by accident after leaving the jedi and shenanigans ensue This also includes:

Historian Rey Skywalker really, really needs some sleep. Unfortunately, she is part of a time-traveling task force investigating the whereabouts of an elusive artifact set to be displayed at the grand opening of the newly rebuilt Coruscant Cathedral in less than a month.

Luckily her boss, Professor Leia Organa, forces her on a sabbatical—to Victorian England. Once there (and after a good night’s sleep), she runs into fellow historian Poe Dameron, who reveals that he may have upset the time continuum. Realizing that Leia has sent her to help Poe, and with the timeline in jeopardy, the pair struggle to make things right as they find themselves entangled in the many mysteries surrounding Coruscant Cathedral.

Note 1: Although my synopsis doesn’t really make this clear, this story would incorporate all four prompts!

Note 2: Y’all—I may actually have to write this at some point. If you are unfamiliar with Connie Willis and love time-traveling shenanigans, I highly, HIGHLY recommend you read her “Oxford Time Travel” books—specifically Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog. It’s only tiny Luke, granted, but there’s a couple good ones in there. It also gives me the benefit of not having to interact with fanfiction.net’s sorting system. Other than that, I have been stuck thinking about these two series’ for a good couple weeks now. One isn’t Luke & Vader YET but it is Leia & Vader which is even better.

First: https://archiveofourown.org/series/1902145, a series by @jackdaw-kraai, whose name is too long for me to put here. Very similar vibes to nghmb in that it is mostly all of these people going: someone let an incredibly young person onto a military vessel and now he’s doing cool, weird shit and everyone is adopting him, including the most terrifying motherfucker here. Found Family shenanigans, except it’s also biological family but they don’t know. Imperial politics. Worldbuilding. That good shit.

Second: https://archiveofourown.org/works/8543680/chapters/19586203, a work by chancecraz. It’s also part of a larger series with other POV’s/AUs of their own story, which is what I always do when I write my stuff, so props to them from actually writing it instead of daydreaming about it. Time-travelling Leia being a complete badass and Vader struggling to be a dad. Leia and Luke kinda halfway swapping roles as Fascist Dad’s #1 Most Wanted Kid and both of them having complex feelings about it. Obi-Wan Kenobi having to deal with the consequences of his grief instead of just peacing out. Imperial politics. Worldbuilding. That good shit.

One of the reasons I haven’t started on the next chapter of nghmb yet is that I have been reading and thinking about these frequently, and with word counts like that, it takes a while. I’m in star wars brainrot right now. I’ll get out someday.

Both of these are connected in that their characterizations of Darth Vader are extremely good. He has a whole smorgasbord of horrible choices and character traits, all with Anakin Skywalker’s way of going into a situation knowing jackshit about anything, solving the problem in the most confusing, violent way possible, and leaving most spectators with incredible psychological damage.

Other than that I just go to Ao3 and go to the Luke Skywalker tag, get rid of anything tagged with the sequel trilogy, and start trawling. Include or remove tags at your leisure. I’m honestly kinda sad that Ao3 doesn’t have more fanfic for the original trilogy, because it’s a fascinating space to play in and also the found family is RIGHT THERE and VERY GOOD in canon despite the accidental incest. I want to know more about imperial politics. I was most excited by the Clone Wars episodes about senate corruption and controlling the banks (excluding the arcs where Obi-Wan Kenobi got beat up because he’s a comfort character).

Ben had only given Luke one rule to live by while he was away from his family, don't tell anyone his last name, and he followed that.

It wasn't his fault that Darth Vader sensed that he was a Force Sensitive and now he wants to train him, as a Jedi no less. That's the complete opposite of what Ben had told Luke. And after asking Darth Vader about his dad, Luke can't help but say yes to Darth Vader training him. After all, Luke's always wanted to be a Jedi like his father.

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever came up with?

Ohhhh boy so the ACTUAL answer to that is probs two half finished major character death fics I wrote while in a really bad place that’ll never see the light of day unless I clean them up and make them less..... Yikes lol

But the one I can tell y’all about is probs the idea I had about a ROTS AU where Obi Wan decided he couldn’t fight Anakin and disobeyed Yoda to go after Sidious instead. This forces Yoda to go after Anakin, and of course in a Sidious vs Obi Wan fight and a Yoda vs Vaderkin fight, Obi Wan and Vaderkin are both dying. My idea was that they’d both die and be stuck as Force ghosts (look Vaderkin’s a Force Baby aight and this ghosthood is more of a punishment where he suffers so it’s not like I’m quite breaking the rule of only Lightsiders becoming ghosts) and they’d be forced to watch what Sidious does, which is namely kidnap Padmé, steal her children once she has them, leave her for dead which gives her the opportunity to escape to the Rebellion but she thinks her children are dead along with her husband, and Luke and Leia are stuck growing up as Sidious’s new little brainwashed Sith Apprentices. It might end up having a happy ending though but yeah that’s the angstiest I’ve gotten

O: How do you begin a story— with the plot, or the characters?

I’d saaaaay the characters? Cuz like, I begin a story usually based off of a specific scene playing out in my head I wanna write and I have to create plot around it, so yeah I guess the characters are what show up first

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?

Oh yeah! Star Wars related tropes, I love Force Ghosts!!!! Also time travel fics (so long as they don’t bash anyone I like!), I loooove sparring and like, the inherent eroticism of pinning someone with a weapon at their neck, just general Force Shenanigans stuff where the Force is being fuckin’ weird, and the fics that are just like “and then Palpatine was hit by a speeder and died”

Anyway, Bellarke and co. are the stars of a popular show in its final season, and they are horrified by what Jaha comes up with story-wise. (Think those final GoT table reads. C’mon, we’ve all seen the footage of Conleth tossing his script aside when Varys is killed off). So they decide to recreate their own low-budget version of the final season. And Bellamy may or not be having a crisis regarding his feelings for a certain blonde co-star. OH! And how could I forget the social media tie-ins? Brilliant. Definitely read this one on a desktop to get the full experience.

Anyway.

Obi-Wan is suspicious like a suspicious person and so is Anakin and Luke is kind of losing his mind because he never knew (suspected, but never had proof) that old Ben was a goddamned menace and all his lectures to Luke about same are like, wow, dude, wow.

Oh, and also his dad.

And Ahsoka?

And all the clones and everyone else and he’s like, ;____________________; at what could have been, you know?

But also not sure if he’ll ever get back to his time - he really hopes so because there’s this Mandalorian with an adorable kid - and oh, God, he needs to check on Grogu in this time stat, but yes.

Shenanigans in which Luke desperately tries to hide his real identity because everyone’s iike “He feels like Anakin,how strange, and Luke in the corner like “Hahaha, yes, STRANGE. :DDDDDD

And then adventures in which he ends up having to save Obi-Wan more than he ever expected to when he woke up twenty-something years in the past, and oh dear God is that his mom? (Leia looks so much like her. Mostly the angry part right now, because Anakin and recklessly endangering his life and uh, oops, he didn’t mean to eavesdrop???

But like. Luke is kind of bleeding again (he,too, recklessly endangered his life alongside his father and Obi-Wan) and thought medbay was this way and -

Wait, why are you looking at him like that?

Anaking and Padme worried Luke’s going to at them out to, idk, the Jedi council or whatever about their ~forbidden love, and Luke is just.

“What.”

So then the thing about attachments and how they’re bad because emotions is explained to him and Luke looks at his father who clearly loves his mother so much. Thinks about the nonsense about attachment and how scared it would make someone like Anakin, and Obi-Wan -

Luke loves him, but the man’s made mistakes. (And, like. Luke gets it, he does. Some adventure with Obi-Wan and sharing of past loves because they weren’t sure they’d make it out alive and why not share this thing with someone kind of friend-shaped, and anyway,)

Luke is like, okay, wow.

Because one, the thing about attachments is bullshit - show him one Jedi master who isn’t attached to their padawan for starters - and anyway.

Not his business who they love, an then he scurries off to medbay before he bleeds out in hallway or wherever, which is where Obi-Wan finds him and is like  >:((((( at the bleeding thing and :| about the attachment thing but also *SIGH* because Luke reminds him of this padawan he had once, what was his name???

Anyway.

Yes

Also, though, also.

Them taking Luke to Coruscant to meet with the Jedi council because they have no idea where he came from - Luke floated the possibility of time travel being real to Obi-Wan once, but as a hypothetical and really, never mind him - and anyway.

Luke being like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ as they ~question (interrogate) him because he has read up on the Jedi Order and their rules and whatnot. And where he might have been in awe of getting to meet all these Jedi masters once, now he just feels. Pity. He feels pity for them.

It shows, a little, and they call it arrogance for someone so young to think they know better than the entirety of the Jedi council and yet?

Luke doesn’t care.

Which kind of makes him a threat in their eyes, this incredibly powerful Jedi who appeared out of nowhere and shows so little - if any, really - respect for their Order.

And, they realize, who both Obi-Wan and Anakin like.

Ahsoka too, but she’s a padawan, young and such, doesn’t know better.

But also, also, after all the fun-times had with the Jedi council Luke walks out to find Palpatine talking to his father and his mother while Obi-Wan stands by and chips in with a comment or observation every so often and he is like !!! because he never expected this???

Somehow after hearing stories from people, he just. Didn’t expect the fall of the old Jedi Order to take place in a tastefully appointed waiting area, potted plants and chairs and such Maybe one of those little fountains you see in an office sometime for the soothing sound of moving water and whatnot.

Anyway.

Maybe it’s his own personal experience with the man in the throne room on the second Death Star with the dramatic lighting and so on, but it’s a wee bit jarring.

He has one of those “episodes” as the others call them, and gets hustled out of there posthaste while Palpatine is all, “Oh, dear, I do hope he feels better,” and Luke does all the meditating exercises so as not to blurt out that hey, so, that sith lord everyone’s trying to find? RIGHT THERE.

Because lack of evidence and such.

And it’s like.

After seeing what things were like, he’s just. He’s stuck here, probably, right? So. Maybe he can fix things, even a little.

(Right the wrongs that Palpatine wrought and so on.)

And while he’s doing that it occurs to him that Din, okay, Din is alive in this time. And he told Luke about the attack that killed his parents, about being rescued by Mandalorians, and is like.

Can he change that too? Should he? Searches everything he can only to realize he’s too late to do anything about it. That the attack happened before Luke arrived in this time and he has this.

This little breakdown in a library or some such somewhere, because all that fretting and whatnot he did about whether or not he should intervene was for nothing, a moot point because he was too late, and it’s like.

Existential crisis time because if he changes things more than he has, will he even exists in the future? Will Leia?

Will any of their friends exist, and on his way back to the quarters he’s been given he runs into Padme - perhaps sneaking out from visiting Anakin - and she’s surprised to see him, maybe a little worried too.

(She knows his views on the whole attachment thing, yes, but her and Anakin have kept their relationship a secret for a long time now and old habits)

Still, she notices he’s obviously not doing well and they talk for a bit, Luke asking her a hypothetical, like if she could go back in time to  change something to save someone she loved from suffering, would she?

And of course she is like. No, because doing so negates their choices and how would it affect others and so on?

Luke is just, right, of course.

But then she goes on and says, as a person, not a politician, a leader, she absolutely would.

Luke is like, oh, because of course that makes sense, doesn’t it.

Good of the many and so on and anyway.

He goes to his quarters and thinks on it for a bit and realizes, yes okay, the thing with Din was mostly selfish - he wants to say he wouldn’t have done it, but he still doesn’t know  - but Palpatine, okay, Palpatine.

How many million, billions, maybe more, lives was he responsible for? (Luke has his own count for the dead, and monstrously high it may be, but Palpatine is at the heart of all of it.)

So.

He he starts laying the groundwork to expose Palpatine, or maybe just build up, idk, say a Rebel Alliance to oppose him - and discovers that oh, would you look at that.

Because Padme and Bail and their closet conspirators who know something is coming, that Palpatine is surely part of it, but they don’t know the full scope of things.

And honestly, even Luke doesn’t, but.

They think he’s a spy or whatever, and there are all these shenanigans in the meantime, and Luke doing what he can to prove that he’s really on their side, and anyway, anyway.

He plants seeds here and there, everything Leia taight him, everything he picked up, and goes to Obi-Wan for help because his former master and watchdog, and anyway.

Before Luke gets to see if anything he’s done in the past pays off he gets booted back to his time.

Or a version of it.

Ripped back to his time and this moment where he’s sure he’s dead - in the middle of a space battle or collapsing temple somewhere and glowy doohickey, something like that, or, okay, Palpatine trying to kill hi again for the first time - and anyway.

Super disorienting.

Especially when he opens his eyes and Obi-Wan is there along with his father and is that Ahsoka?

But, like.

Older.

Also, though, Din.

And Grogu and Luke is very confused?

But there’s no time for that, as Padme and Leia run in and tell them the Imperials found them, did you get him? Yes, oh, good, and now with the running???

In which they do the running to a familiar ship Luke knows well, and also a few others he likewise knows, and anyway.

They escape just in time because an Imperial fleet was looking for them, and anyway.

Luke is super confused, but that’s okay because exposition time in which he finds out all those seeds he planted worked.

Palpatine was exposed, but didn’t matter because he had contingency plans, you know?

Order 66 never went into effect because someone - Obi-wan was prompted to go back to Kamino and ask after the clones, any...special features that may have been added and anyway.

Palpatine never got his clone army, but he made up for it with battle droids and conscripts and the Empire didn’t win? But neither did the Alliance.

Not yet, anyway, and they’ve been fighting for years at that point. No Death Star - at least not a completed one - and anyway, yes.

Alderaan’s still there, Leia doesn’t have to pretend she can see it in the night sky, and anyway.

A lot has changed but so much is still the same, and everyone, okay, everyone thinks Luke an idiot.

(They’re also not surprised by that, because Skywalker, but yes.)

This whole thing of Luke’s original memories clashing with this new timeline - he keeps his old ones, but it makes for a confusing time, you know? Some point where Luke gets this faraway look and turns to someone - maybe they were dead in that original timeline - and tells them how different everything is.

If they’re feeling brave enough, and honestly most people in Luke’s life are that brave, they ask what he was thinking about to get that look on his face and he’ll tell them about terrible future that didn’t come to pass.

One he feels a little guilty for missing sometimes because those other versions of the people he knew, loved, are gone and he’s the only one who remembers them? But then he’ll see one of them, or someone who was dead in that other timeline and realizes it’s not as simple as that.

Looks at the life he knew before and the one he’s learning now and can’t decide if what he did was the right thing?

But then he’ll catch his parents on a balcony somewhere lost in on another’s eyes and these soft smiles and the love between them that’s grown over the years. Or see Obi-Wan walking about with Cody, and soft smiles and quiet laughter and hundred dozen little moments like that and thinks, selfishly, he doesn’t truly regret it if these people he’s come to love get something like that, you know?

And, then, of course, then Din finds him, or maybe Luke goes back to their quarters on whatever ship or base they’re at then, and he’ll be waiting for him.

They were on the cusp of something when Luke got thrown back in time, but things changed once he got back.

Slow, awkward, because different timelines and experiences, but something new and good, and anyway, anyway.

Din’s there and Luke is being a little (lot) selfish in wanting to keep whatever the two of them are building between them, and Din seems to want the same, and anyway.

because im procrastinating on my homework, here's my vague outline of the sw x razia AU that tortures my brain every few months

PREFACE: my main idea is that the sw characters are playing out the storyline of razia's shadow. act 1 follows the prequels with minimal changes. act 2 follows the original trilogy, but the storyline has some major tweaks to fit better. the most important thing to mention is that the adakias/anhura romance is scrapped entirely. also some major changes to the star wars storyline to fit as well. such as luke knowing that darth vader is his dad and being like, raised with him from day one

characters:

ahrima = anakin

nidria = padme

toba the tura = obi-wan

o the scientist = the jedi council and/or specifically obi-wan??? i guess i'd pick and choose which fulfills which role depending on when the story calls for it

barayas = palpatine

adakias = luke

anhura = leia

pallis = darth vader

sangara = darth vader's assistant guy i cant remember his name. absolute side character but i thought it would be funny to add LOL

bawaba brothers, unified into one person = yoda

doctor dumaya = palpatine as well

act 1 story:

the angels are the jedi. padme is there too i guess. anakin is the prodigy angel, the best of them all, but he feels unacknowledged by the council and obi-wan. they entertain his idea that he's the best, but don't ever actually recognize it in a way that satisfies him. he finds consolation in padme who supports him through it

to prove that he IS the best, he creates the lamps. idk what the lamps would be in this AU. but again, the council doesn't spare him the time of day. defeated and angry, he storms off into the darkness..... where palpatine greets him, and tells him tall tales of just how great he actually is. go ahead and destroy the lamps, he tells anakin, then they'll finally see how great you are. one day they'll see and appreciate your power

so he destroys the lamps. the whole world is in ruin, everything is destroyed. people have died en masse. i guess padme dies during it too

and there, at the end of it all, obi-wan confronts him. they battle it out, and in the end, anakin is kicked into the flames of his own making. he burns yada yada like in canon, obi-wan leaves him to die

a 20-year, minute-long intermission:

aka this is the fall of the republic and the rise of the empire, anakin becomes darth vader, but since its taking place in razia's shadow, then its actually the world is being separated into dark and light. although i guess maybe i'll shift it, so that it's not perfectly half and half. the dark would be the empire and so a majority of the world will live there, but the light would be i guess like rebel "planets," so it's much smaller. and i would say there's no war really going on, it's just that the light is the last bastion of like, good life left i guess, hidden away from the dark lol

act 2 story:

luke is a prince of the dark. he lives with his father, darth vader, who has expectations of him as a prince of the dark. but luke finds that he can't quite fit in with whats expected of him - he tries to be all dark and mean and cruel, but he can't bring himself to do it. instead, he dreams of a better life - he's heard stories of the kingdom of light, and of the prophecy that one day the dark will fall and the two will be reunited once more. he dreams that he will be the prophecized one to reconnect them again, much to his father's frustration

and one day he sneaks away and travels to the light anyway. once luke's absence is noticed, darth vader is sent to fetch him back to the dark

meanwhile, as luke enters the kingdom of the light, he finds leia. she, too, had been feeling like she was destined for more. she dreamed of reuniting the dark and light just as luke had. they instantly connect as close friends, and together they go to HER parents, the organas, who lead the kingdom of light.

it starts getting shaky here because the original story depended on adakias being a little piece of shit and i dont think luke would act that way. so idk. if i followed the original story, then luke's status as a prince of the dark would be kept secret, and his Dark Presence would start poisoning leia and then they'd go off to find a cure instead of like, idk, him coming clean about who he is and not putting her life in fucking danger........? but as i said, i dont think luke would do that. idk.

so perhaps the organas know who luke is. but they want to keep leia safe, so they dont reveal the fact that they're twins, and therefore leia is also related to darth vader...? they just warn her that oohhoh this boy is Dark. stay away...... like how everyone didnt want the twins together in canon or something idk.

and so luke and leia still leave anyway. again idk why they'd leave. but they still leave. luke is feeling guilty about being related to darth vader, doesnt tell her that he's a prince of the dark, etc. but i guess since theyre twins she wouldnt get sick actually anyway lol

OH maybe they go leave the light because of jedi shenanigans and thats how they find: YODA! who regales them stories of the fall of the republic, darth vader, and all that, while teaching them about how to be jedi

and then i guess they go to confront palpatine. who is playing the RS role of the doctor but instead of looking for medicine bc leia is dying, they're just going to fight him as the emperor. and then darth vader finally catches up to them in the final showdown. he's like, luke, i am here to take you home, step away from the light princess. and luke's heritage as the prince of the dark is revealed, wah, and then also somehow the fact leia is luke's sister is also revealed, probably by palpatine? again, i said it's very shaky here. so all the family reveals cause all that drama

and then somehow there's a scuffle. i guess once vader hears from palpatine that leia is his daughter that's when he turns on palpatine. and then palpatine fucking dies but vader gets stabbed. and so then he slowly dies surrounded by luke and leia and he has that whole thing he did in canon about liek let me look at you with my own eyes or whatever but also now his daughter is here too. and then he dies . rip. and then the dark vs light divide falls. bc like how adakias was the prophecized one in RS, and anakin was ~the chosen one~ in sw, his death now is the prophcized way to reunite the dark and light. IDK.

Thank you for taking your time to check my requests. I know my requests can sound a bit tricky, but please don’t be discouraged. I wish you will have good time writing first and foremost!

I like humor and tropes, which is probably the only thing you really need to know about my general likes.

I’m very picky about sex tropes, so generally I would be grateful for no graphic sex (unless specified otherwise). Also, if you go for a shippy fic, I don’t want any stuff happening without consent. I like consent a lot. Other dislikes include ABO, mpreg, soulmates, and situations where stuff is happening because destiny said so and nobody questions it.

While I will be first person to admit that this series really could have had a better plot I loved the characters and would enjoy seeing more of them.

Mordred | Saber of Red (Fate/Apocrypha)

I love angry girls with gender issues, so I knew I would love Mordred and boy do I. There’s just something refreshing in seeing characters like her having a healthy amount of anger at the bullshit the world throws at her.

I really enjoyed her interactions with Shishigou, but I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing her interact with other cast members. Her specific circumstances make her a good foil for a lot of characters.

Additional info

I would be very okay with AUs, both Plot Divergences and complete setting changes, since as I mentioned I’m not overly attached to Apocrypha’s plot. So feel free to play with the idea of Mordred being Shishigo’s actual adopted daughter in a modern AU or some interesting what if scenario. Maybe Mordred getting her wish upon the grail, only to discover how terrible the life of a king is.

I’m okay with pretty much any pairing except Sieg/Jeanne (but if you went for an AU where Jeanne and Leticia are not sharing the body I would be pretty okay with Sieg/Leticia). Also, no shipping Shishigou and Mordred, because I much prefer them as a found family. 

Out of things I actually do ship I have a very soft spot for Shirou/Semiramis.

Eleanor Hume

I really like how much Eleanor changes during the course of the game. And how sincerely she approaches everything. It’s refreshing to see a character who is willing to judge things on her own. Sure, she’s slightly stubborn at first, but Eleanor had really grown on me over the course of the game.

I would probably be happiest with a fic that tracks just how much her attitude changed. It can be about her general attitude or about her relation with someone else in the party. I’m not picky. I just want to see Eleanor discovering that the world is bigger and much less black and white than she thought. But at the same time, even if there are cruelties she was not aware of, there is also kindness she had not seen before.

For some other random ideas: Eleanor helps Laphicet make a present for Velvet (or they outright collaborate on it), or Eleanor has a moment when she realizes just how much the whole party grew on her and how much she enjoys being with them..

Rokurou Rangetsu

I would love any look at Rokuro’s life. I love how it is slowly revealed that he was a very terrible human being, that it is no wonder that he turned into a deamon as a result. The pre-canon look at his life in Rangetsu family and how he turned into a daemon would be great (bonus points for including his mom if you decide on this). As would be his perspective on canon events with some more interactions with any party members. Or post-canon and Rokuro’s journey in search of stronger and stronger foes, during which he meets lots of colorful foes.

Velvet Crowe

Velvet Crowe is one of the most enjoyable Tales protagonist I have witnessed yet. She’s a complicated mess of emotions and trauma, barely held together by her drive for vengeance. Seeing her struggle with all the tragedy, while desperately pushing forward, and waiting to see whether she cracks under the pressure of it all or not was much more interesting than standard Tales hero journey.

I would enjoy an introspective piece for her, since she hides so much of her emotions. That being said, Velvet interacting with other party members is fun too! Whether it be her being demonic bros with Rokuro, butting heads with Eleanor or not having patience for Magilou’s antics, Velvet has an interesting relationship with all of them and I would be happy to see any of those connections explored.

Additional info

I would be pretty okay with the AUs, both Canon Divergence and setting changes. In case of canon divergence, please, just don’t save Velvet with deus ex machina. I’m not opposed to her being saved, but please build that plotline properly. The game sets her demise very strongly throughout the whole game and I need to be properly convinced that there is a chance for her to live through this without becoming a miserable malevolence factory. This is not a problem in different setting AUs.

As for the ships. I do ship Elanor and Velvet, so if that’s you jam I would be happy to see them getting together or just enjoying being together. They have very interesting dynamics throughout the game and I would love to see some more romance in it. I would also be okay with more risque content for this ship.

Who loves Tales series more with each new game they play, this gal over here. Also, I’m currently playing Xillia 2 and while I’ve gone through most of the game, I may not be able to finish it before this exchange ends due to the real world responsibilities. So while referencing Xillia 2 would be okay with me, please avoid endgame spoilers for it.

Jude Mathis

Jude is one of my favourite protagonist for being just plain relatable. I love how he develops through the story and how much his issues rule over his decision before he gets his act together.

I would really love a look at Jude’s life before the game. I find his relationship with his parents very interesting and would love to see it explored more deeply. How did he go about applying to Talim and how his parents reacted? What about Leia? How did Jude manage in Talim?

I’m also very okay with a more indepth look at his journey. What were his feelings at the beginning? How did he feel revisiting his hometown and having to face his parents to be able to help Milla? Any and all snippets from this time are fine by me.

Elize Lutus

The best child character in video games I’ve seen in a long time. I would love to see more of her adventures and how she learns to open up to other people.

I probably would love a post-canon story the most with Elize trying to fit into a normal school. I would love to get a glimps at her attempts to make new friends and not appear to be too weird. I would especially love if Elize and her friends ended up getting into some sort of trouble. Maybe they decided to investigate some rumours and run into a monster or bandits and Elize saves the day with things she learned while travelling with the team. Bonus points if the knowledge from her travels is very questionable.

Just like with Jude, I would also be very open to some insights into her feelings during the plot of the game. Especially, how she slowly starts opening up to others after joining the party.

Additional info

I’m okay with AUs, both canon divergence and setting changes. Given that Xillia 2 enables any and all divergences you really, really shouldn’t hold back in that regard. On that note I would be very partial to any member of Chimeriad surviving, because they all deserved better. For setting changes I don’t have any specific.

I’m okay with ships: Jude/Alvin, Jude/Milla, an OT3 involving all of them, Leia/Agria and Gaius/Wingul.

FATE/EXTELLA

I will be honest. I have a lot of complaints about the characterization of some of the characters and the plot of this game, it gave me one thing I really love and damn do I want it.

Jeanne d'arc | Ruler (Fate/Extella) & Gilgamesh (Fate/Extella)

The interactions between Jeanne and Gilgamesh gave me life, watered my crops and made me laugh a lot. Those two get along in that they reinterpret each other’s words completely whenever they interact. It’s incredible.

I love the grudging respect they have for each other, because while they both heavily don’t approve of each other’s worldview and lifestyles, they can’t dismiss the will and dedication the other has.

Additional info

I’m okay with AUs and canon divergences. The subscenarios for both of them were painfully short in the game, so I would definitely be up if you expanded on them or just had some wacky adventures involving both of them. Just please don’t include Titan!Altera, Charlot!Tamamo or Elizabeth acting like she did in that game. I still have trauma from their characterization. Servant!Altera, and Elizabeth&Tamamo with characterization from Extra or Grand Order will be very okay. If you really need one of those characters with the characterization from this game, then I understand, but please, don’t linger on the scene where that happens. Just get it done quickly.

As I said, I’m not a big fan of Extella’s plot, so if you want to throw it all away and just have fun with the characters I will definitely approve. Gilgamesh and Jeanne meeting during a Grail War could be interesting. As well as, some Grand Order shenanigans if you played that game.

If you want to just have fun with their characters without the whole Servant stuff then, I’m also very open to it. The idea of Jeanne and Gilgamesh as childhood friends who are now forced to share a flat as students is an idea that I absolutely love, because they would find those arrangements very challenging and definitely have a lot of complaints about each others’ lifestyles.

I will limit myself to the ships involving the people I requested, which means absolutely no ships for Jeanne. For Gilgamesh I’m okay with shipping him with both Enkidu and Kirei, but well, we all know how he is, so feel free to have him sleeping around if it fits your fic.

Yamo Konami

I found Konami’s misadventures very amusing. I love how completely mismatched his position and goals are. I would love to see more of his shenanigans, whether it be him making terrible management decision during the canon or him “repenting” after the canon. Maybe he attempts to become a mascot, because what better way is there to express his passion for magical girls? I also wouldn’t mind a pre-canon look on how he came to love magical girls as much as does.

All ships are crazy in this series so I’m okay with whatever direction you want to spin them, as long as you acknowledge the canon crushes the characters have. By which I mean, if the character has a canon crush make sure to do some build up so that it doesn’t feel strange if they find a new object of affection.

::singsong:: This is the arc that will not end… (j/k, I’m having fun. It is taking longer to get through everything than I thought it would, though.)

We are in good shape, ish. I did miss one week this month, and I was late a couple times due to IRL stuff [a thrilling saga involving two car insurance companies, the registrar’s office of the university where I got my BA four years ago, HR and IT at my current job…]

Anyway. I’ve got about 2-3 more chapters to go, I think? Need to check in w/Coruscant again of course, and Obi-Wan and Ahsoka are definitely gonna yell at Anakin after the Poor Life Choice he made in last week’s update. We’ll also hear from Leia and Beru, so that should be fun.

Then we’ll finally start Arc Five,is tentatively titled Lessons and will probably focus mostly on the kids—the twins, of course; Lavinia; probably Winter; possibly Biggs and Leia’s other friends… It’ll be a quieter arc, probably; more along the lines of Homecoming, where we’re getting people situated/positioned for future plotty shenanigans. Although we will most likely spend some time with Darth Infernalis, too.

Also, the next chapter will probably put me over 100k (omg). I feel like I should do Something Special/a bonus to mark the milestone. Any suggestions/requests?

Distaff:

The next chapter is coming, no really. Like I mentioned earlier, this month was A Mess, IRL-wise, so, in dealing with all that, I didn’t get as much writing done as I wanted to on anything, including/especially Distaff. This coming month, though, I swear.

Auxiliaries:

I got the entry bit up this month! Or, well, the first of three parts of it, anyway. Part 2 of said opening might take a while, because it involves people shooting at the boys and I need to iron out who is shooting and why. I actually have most of Part 3 written, but Part 2 obviously needs to go up first.

So I might do that Part 2 later this month, if I get it finished, or I might post Ahsoka’s entrance, since I have that mostly finished and I’m very fond of it. We shall see!

AU Outline:

This month was Ventress accidentally adopting tiny time-travelling Luke Skywalker! She was so annoyed, I love it. As always, all five of these can be found in the #au outlines for the win tag.

Next month will probably be the Mask of Zorro/California Gold Rush AU Fusion No One Asked For, but that I may change my mind.

Masks:

…sigh. See aforementioned “RL was a disaster” comments. I’m almost tempted to just finish this one out as an outline and jump to Machinations at this point, but IDK.

For those of you who don’t know (because I’m not sure I’ve summarized it properly on this blog yet), Masks is the first installment of Masks!verse (ha, I’m creative), which is basically what I call an In Spite of a Nail AU, where Lavinia from Precipice exists in a canon-adjacent timeline. I say ‘canon-adjacent’ because it’s sort of a…weird hybrid of Official Disney Canon and Old EU/Legends Canon? It picks up in the immediate aftermath of Yavin and is a true In Spite of a Nail AU for the OT timeframe (i.e., the story focuses on locations/people that the movies don’t, and, while she does some specific things that change some details, no major plot points during these four years are changed). However, I tend to stick closer to Legends for post-Endor developments (for several reasons, mostly relating to I like the way things played out with the remnants of the Empire and the New Republic in Legends, politically/government-building wise; better than the parts I’ve read in the tie-in canon novels on the same subjects. Which is probably a large part of why I haven’t read all that much of the new tie-in novels; also Mara Jade, also Pellaeon, neither of whom has been recanonized yet sooooo yeah).

Anyway, some of the content from post-ROTJ novels is therefore excluded (as is Rebels, still, for unrelated reasons). But Masks!verse does eventually link up w/TFA (the third part, Martyrs, picks up shortly after the end of said movie). Canon may be locked at that point; it all depends on how much TLJ throws what I have planned already, and how much I decide to care.

As with everything, did not get as much done as I would’ve liked this month. Did not work on The Caladrius or any other crossover piece, but I got a few short bits out, for all three worlds I post to RF. Sadly did not work on anything potentially publishable/unrelated this month.

Other:

So, I’ve been thinking about doing an open question night once a month. I mean, I’ll of course answer asks/whatever that come to me outside of an event like that, but I’d be online/available for active interaction if I did this, if that makes sense? Considering holding these on the fifteenth if I do this. Or maybe the third Monday of the month, to alternate with the Coming Attractions posts? Something to think about.

I’ll also take prompts (for short/under-5k stories), which I’ll plan to fill by the next Open Question Night, barring RL shenanigans or something.
