I see so many well intentioned women talking about how modesty is important when it comes to men's objectification of them. Like, they will condemn men's lust, but say, "but we have to do our part too." I just need you guys to understand that there is literally no amount of clothing you can wear to keep men from sexualizing you. It sucks, but it's true.

I dress very modestly by the typical conservative Christian standard... Loose clothing, long dresses/skirts, nothing low cut, etc. Usually the only skin I expose is my forearms, neck, and face... But I am not exempt from being sexualized. I can't tell you how many times I've heard stuff like, "it's so hot when women leave things up to the imagination" and "I love your librarian/teacher vibe, it's so sexy." Men sexualize nuns and muslim women, who are completely covered. No woman is exempt from this.

Why is this important? So you can stop blaming yourself for men treating you like sexual potential instead of a person and hold men accountable for their own willful inability to control themselves.

To the Christian women, you are not responsible for men choosing to lust after you. Lust is a choice. I am same-sex attracted, and when I find myself attracted to a woman, I simply choose not to fantasize and lust after her. Men are capable of the same, they just like to shift blame.

As a Christian, I dress modestly as an act of humility more than anything else, but I know there is nothing I can do to control the sinful actions of men. Please stop blaming yourselves.

Why is it whenever we design really non-humananoid or animal-like races, we’re always having them wear no clothes? Why do we assume the human form is the only form that could possibly make clothing work? Just because centaurs would find pants problematic, that means they wouldn’t invent dresses? Just because the dragon-people have wings for arms, they can’t have togas and shorts? Just because a creature is a tentacle monster or has a hard carapace, they have no sense of modesty? Give me alien/fantasy/anthro fashion, dangit!

Fëanorian Week 2023, Day 2: Maglor

It took me no fewer than half a dozen attempts to even get a sketch I liked for Maglor. I kept trying to include an instrument into the composition of the piece but they all just looked so weird and out of place until I realized: stone statues don’t often have instruments in them because there are just too many fragile elements. So I just left it out and finally it started coming together.

That being said, I originally raised the question of which instrument would be best in a Maglor drawing to my friend group before I had fully decided on a pose for him. We were bouncing between panpipes and a lute when one said “maracas LOL” and I realized that I had just been granted the opportunity to create one of the most blursed images I’ve ever set to paper or tablet. So here you go: Maracglor.

Just out of frame are Finrod on the steel pans and Fingon on bongos.

Really don't like the framing of certain kinds of clothing as "modest" tbh. It implies that other types of clothing are "immodest" and... do not like that vibe no siree.

Like if people want to dress that way, no problemo you do you. I can see how in many cases it can be personally meaningful. But call it... idk being covered or body veiling or whatever. Don't frame the rest of us as somehow bad in how you talk about clothing.

#mind you I think we can also interrogate whether modesty is the virtue we usually claim it as but that's another can of worms #calling it that just seems like a way to help enforce it as a cultural norm #like okay suuure you can wear that miniskirt if you want but just know it's 'immodest'#a lot of the way people talk about veiling in spiritual circles seems totally divorced from the fact #that it is a practice tied up with the patriarchy #theres a reason why so many ex muslims or ex orthodox jews are baffled by people who want to veil #and that doesn't mean they're the only ones who are right about it #people should veil or wear covering clothing if thats meaningful to them!#but it is a practice thats tied up with some very heavy bagage #it's not this clean feminist thing with no problems

The more I'm into my femininity, the less showing my clothes become.

As the years went by, I found myself attracted to long skirts, long dresses, long shirts. I found myself attracted to feminine, yet modest cloth, that hugged my curves yet did not show them. I love only suggesting my curves.

I didn't lose my femininity one bit, rather it got so much stronger.

You see, now my husband was the only one to see it. Now I was a present to him, and a mystery to the world. And yes, that felt really so good.

The lingerie collection I got as a present when I told him about this is a most loved testament that he may enjoy this as well. ❤️😌👀
