Din: That’s his calm down spot.

Drash: …a time out?

Din: Yeah.

Drash: What’d he do?

Din: I don’t know. Bo-Katan talked to him for less than fifteen seconds before he removed himself from her presence and parked right there.

Drash: Oh, yeah, mood. I’d do that too if I had a calm down spot.

Din: You don’t have a calm down spot?

Drash: Well. I’m an adult now, so-

Din: I’m making you a calm down spot. Anyone argues tell them the Mand’alor decreed no one’s too old for calm down spots. Grogu is fifty. Almost fifty-one.

Grogu: *sadly* patu. ‘The suffering is endless.’

Redoing a scene: Boba Fett meets the Mods

With the new Disney+ show “The Book of Boba Fett” the writers wanted to introduce a Boba Fett that was not only coming into the mantle of crime lord but also a man who understands the importance of family.

The mark they missed on is that by presenting a kinder more family oriented side of Boba Fett it comes into immediate confrontation with him trying to be a crime lord, as he appears to lack the resolve necessary for running a criminal empire.

With a conflict between his two driving forces it is understandable that many fans felt let down by his presentation for his show and walked away feeling like there could have been more.

An example of this is Boba Fett’s first interaction with the gang known as the “Mods”. Within his new palace Fett is met by locals who offer him tribute for protection and is informed that a rival gang has been stealing water and credits from one of his tributaries. The owner says that the gang lacks respect for Fett and because of that others will seek to steal from his new domain as well.

Fett goes to the town and confronts the gang for their actions. They insult and mock him to his face in front of the tributary, going so far to call him a relic; and rather than taking action to silence just brazen defiance Boba offers them a job and denounces the tributary for charging so much for water.

He allowed a challenge of his territory and personal character to go unpunished and then allows those who insulted him a position within his growing empire. In the real world Boba would most likely have been killed and forgotten as stronger gangs claimed his territory.

I believe the writers were attempting to showcase he is not as prone to violence and is willing to talk out issues rather than bring force of arms, but the situation coupled with the strong sense of reputation Boba Fett is known for demands a form of reaction in a violent manner to assert his status as a crime lord. If I had written the scene I would have pushed it along something like this: *Scene opens with Boba Fett and his gang slowly walked down the street. Camera looks over their shoulders as they approach the Mods gathered around a fire chatting

Boba: You the Mods?

Mods Leader: *Talks over shoulder* Who wants to know?

Boba: The man you stole from.

*Mods leader turns around as rest of Mods watch*

Mods gang member: Best back off old man before you get hurt.

Boba: The name is Boba Fett.

Mods gang member: We know, and we don’t care.

Mods gang member: Leave.

Fennec: *Raises rifle*

Boba: *Raises hand to forestall her*

Boba: This is your one chance.

Boba: Return what you stole, leave my territory, and you shall not be harmed.

Mods Leader: That’s going to be a bit of a problem.

Boba: Oh?

Mods Leader: Yeah; cause I like it here and I don’t feel like moving on.

Mods Leader: So why don’t you and your runts skulk back to your stolen palace and hide there like the relics you are.

*Mod gang starts to circle Boba Fett. Augmetics lighting up along their arms and legs as they draw their own weapons*

Boba: *Sighs*

Fennec: Now? *Hefts rifle*

Boba: No.

Boba: *Hands Fennec his rifle to her surprise*

Boba: *Tilts head to side with loud crack*I could use the workout.

*Mod Leader’s eye cybernetic lights up and fires a blast at Boba Fett.*

*Fett Tilts head to the side and it ricochets off his helmet into a Mod who was standing next to the Leader*

*Gang rushes Fett as Fennec and the two Gamorrean’s step back and watch*

*Mod lashes out with a droid arm augmetic tipped with a Vibroblade.

*Fett shifts to the side and the blade misses him. He then takes the arm and twists it into another Mod ganger, impaling them on the blade before Fett elbows the Vibroblade’s owner in the face sending the pair of gangers down to the ground*

*From the back ranks a Mod lashes out suddenly with a long metallic whip that wraps itself around Fett’s arm.*

Boba: *Looks down at whip and laughs*

Boba: Cute.

*Using the same hand now entangled by the whip, Fett shoots out his own cable that wraps itself around the Whip Mod’s throat causing them to gasp for air.*

*With a hand gesture the cable begins retracting back into Fett’s gauntlet pulling the whip Mod to him before grabbing him by the throat and head butting them with his helmet.*

*As the whip Mod falls to the ground another Mod ganger approaches this time unleashing a flurry of kicks with their droid legs. Tiny jets are attached to their legs allowing them to pivot seemingly at random to deliver a barrage of kicks to Boba.*

*Boba tries blocking them his gauntlets but the speed of the kicks keeps increasing to the point they start landing heavier blows on his chest sending him to his knees.*

*Just as the kicking Mod raises their right leg about to deliver a downward strike Fett activates his knee rockets and blasts their left leg to pieces. The kicker loses his balance, falling on to their back just as Ft grabs the right leg and pulls a wire from one of the tiny jets. The Jet spurts to life and sends the mod flying into nearby crates before pulling them erratically down the street.*

*Boba Fett turns to see the Mods leader now facing him with blaster pistols in each hand.*

Boba: *Stands up and faces Mod Leader*

Boba: I see you’re the smart one.

Mod Leader: You make another move and you’re dead!

Boba: You’re brave. A fools bravery, but brave; I like that.

Mod Leader: I said-

*A laser blast shoots out of Boba’s wrist gauntlet and hits the Mod leader’s eye augmentic and sends them to the ground screaming in pain*

Boba: *Walks over to Mod leader gasping on ground and kicks pistols away*

Boba: That was a low yield blast; you’ll live but it feels like you are dying just the same.

Mod Leader: *Gasping, clutching burnt eye augmetic*

Boba: Your gang has spirit and I can use people like that; so here’s the deal.

Boba: *Takes off helmet and leans down over Mod Leader*

Boba: You all can come to my palace by sunrise tomorrow and work for me, or leave town for good.

Boba: Because if I have to come out here again, I will not be in such an understanding mood.

Boba: *Puts helmet back on and leaves Mod gang on the ground groaning and slowly getting back to their feet*

Fennec: *Hands Boba back his weapon as he walks by*

Fennec: Letting them live was an interesting choice.

Boba: Like I said, I needed the practice.

*Fett stumbles for a moment and clutches one of the points he took a blow from during the fight before quickly recovering*

Fennec: And now I wager you need a dip in the bacta tank

Fennec: *in hushed tone* Are you alright?

Boba: *Grunts and keeps walking* I hate it when they kick.

Fic Prompts: Star Wars Wednesday

(Set immediately after the Book of Boba Fett finale)

"You sure about this?" the bounty hunter sounded like he was frowning under his helmet.

"Quit worrying!" Fennec scoffed. "Do you want to practice with the Darksaber or not?"

Boba stepped past them and slapped Din on the back. "Come on, beyora. The foundling is in good hands."

After a moment’s hesitation, Din sighed. "Alright."

He crouched down to set Grogu in front of the teenagers and said sternly, "You be respectful. You know what I mean."

Grogu squealed happily. "Bweer!"

Of course, Din instantly melted.

"I...no, no you can't come with Buir this time."

"Bweer! Bweer!"

"No, sorry buddy. You'd break the training remote. But I promise, we'll be back before bedtime, okay?"

Din scooped the toddler back up to gently tap his helmet to his forehead.

"You be good for Drash, okay? Leave the rancor alone."

"Hey, why does Drash get to be in charge?" Skad complained playfully.

Boba narrowed his eyes at him.

"You know why."

The other Mods snickered as the boy folded his arms and grunted, "Sneak out to teach the rancor tricks one time and you never live it down-"

"Well first of all, you let yourself get caught," Fennec snorted.

"Yeah, because Junior ratted me out!" Skad laughed.

"Fennec is right. Work on your stealth, Skad'ad," Boba said, a smirk betraying his feigned sternness, "and don’t let Grog'ika talk you into bothering Junior. After what Bane put him through, he needs his rest."

"Junior?" Din echoed, bewildered.

"The rancor," Drash supplied helpfully.

"You named the rancor Junior?"

"You named your 'ad Grogu?" Boba shot back.

"No I didn't! That was already his name!" Din protested.
