that post about asoiaf artwork and dark skin makes me think about those ar/ya stans on here that threw a bitch fit in the last few days over some artists drawing her with 'darker' skin while drawing Sansa with lighter skin. so they accused the artists of racism while simultaneously implying that ar/ya looks worse in the artwork as opposed to Sansa because the artist gave her darker skin......which is literally racist and colorist as shit? honestly can't imagine stanning a 10 year and being this weird and bitter on tumblr dot com but anyway

It’s like yeah sure, i think when george was coming up with the “northern look” that northern “coloring” he was thinking of was more similar to the way that like, a lot of welsh people have dark hair and a sort of, olive-tan coloring to their skin (think catherine zeta jones or ioan gruffudd) that makes them look darker than your average brit but usually in a “maybe they’re spanish?” kind of way rather than a “that’s a person of color” kind of way.

but death of the author, first of all, and second of all, depending on what your baseline is, “darker” coloring can look way darker in my imagination than in yours! and that “northern” coloring is vague enough that like, there’s a lot of poc who see parts of themselves in northern culture and explore that, and the Joy Of Reading is that we all see these characters differently!! me going “the starks are indigenous it’s the law” has no actual consequences for the series, someone else’s reading experience, or the fandom at large!! you can literally just block and move on if you’re that dedicated to being a loser weirdo?!?

also it’s funny that her fandom, specifically, is a breeding ground for the worst, most blatantly bigoted takes in the fandom aksjd like people will be like “oh arya is better than the other girls” arya actually loves and supports other women in canon “arya is the prettiest actually” arya herself doesn’t care about being pretty in canon “arya is gonna be a princess in a pretty castle and marry a lord” arya in canon explicitly says she doesn’t want to do that tho “arya is my lily white fave” one of arya’s besties is dornish icon edric dayne be SILENT ON WHAT ARYA IS BC U JUST WANT HER TO BE EXACTLY WHAT SHE HATES.

the thing that really gets me about TSFS is that it all comes down to faith—specifically, Sarek’s faith. there’s no logical or factual basis for his belief in the transference of katras or in fal-tor-pan, which we’re told “has not been done since ages past, and then only in legend”. but Sarek not only holds this irrational, unscientific belief himself...he seems to have passed it down to Spock! he taught these ideas, based on nothing but stories and feelings, to his half-human son who has never been quite Vulcan enough to satisfy him. Spock then internalized enough of those ideas to act on them in the fleeting moments before sacrificing himself for his crew. (Sarek tells Kirk that mind-melding is “the Vulcan way” before death; however, it stands to reason that this isn’t done for the purpose Sarek has in mind.)

while he might not be the best father in the galaxy, Sarek proves that—like Spock’s friends—he’s willing to try anything to save his son from death, even something that seems at odds with both science and his very nature. and it works! it’s illogical, it’s fantastical, but it works. it’s beautiful.

can i just say Antoinette is the prettiest name and it would probably sound so pretty being moaned out. just a thought.

WHAT

What really pisses me off when people are like. No child should be friends with an adult; it’s (insert word/phrase that has been misused so much it’s kinda ceased to have meaning to me anymore) is… My older friends? Even though I’m 28 and yknow. An Adult. Have literally saved my life. Like not only do they have more knowledge about how things work (like Medicaid and food stamps and student loans and resumes and and and all the other shit nobody bothers to teach you and can be hella confusing/nearly inaccessible unless you Know but is hella important/can really fuck up your life if you’re not careful) and like…more experience so when they tell you “it’s gonna be hard, but you can handle it” or “I know it looks scary, but it’s not that bad and I promise you’ll get through it” or “it doesn’t matter if don’t graduate college, look at me. I didn’t. I’ve got a stable, well paying job. It’s not impossible to be comfortable without a college degree. And look at (other friend who is sitting right next to them), they worked their ass off for a double degree and currently not using it! You’ll be okay, you’ll figure it out.” your brain can actually believe them cuz yknow. They’ve been where you are. They have that life experience. And they’re not gonna lie to you because they love you and respect you too much to do that.

Like I don’t want to make it sound like friendship is a commodity, but older friends and intergenerational friendships can be so extremely valuable, especially to vulnerable younger people in abusive households. And I don’t even mean like in that they can offer you a place to crash cuz not every friend is gonna be able to do that and that’s OKAY. But maybe they can still help you in other ways. Even if it’s “just” holding your hand and validating your fears while you cry your eyes out but reassuring you that they believe in your ability to work through it. They believe in *you*. (And yes, I REALLY appreciate the same sentiment from friends my age and it’s also extremely helpful and I love them so very much. But it just sorta hits in a different way coming from an older friend. Not in a way that’s better or worse. Just different.)

Also something something seeing that you have a future when you can’t see past the next year or six months is just. So fucking reassuring.

Also. Older friends are just plain fun. I love my older friends and my life would be so much poorer without them. So yknow. Fuck people that condemn intergenerational friendships.

As another fantastic and dearly beloved friend says. “If you start sounding like my mental illness, YOU are the problem and maybe need to re-evaluate some things.”’

one day a show will have a couple not get married. like, they will talk about it, they’ll probably fight about it, too, you know, for the drama, and then when there’s a tragedy that ultimately ends the fight, they’ll decide not to get married. instead, with all the money they’re not spending on a wedding, they’ll do a cool trip, or buy a new couch, or give to charity, or fucking invest in something or whatever. and they’ll live happily ever after, or they won’t, whatever, but not once will they fucking talk about marrying again.

Happy birthday Mickey and Minnie! God I’m so tired! So this is what it’s like to avoid sleep because you wanna have fun? Playing video games and watching tv shows and anime?

Anyways, here’s a scenery: I was inspired by the Land of Birthdays from the Faraway Tree stories and I decided to take Mickey Mouse there, along with all of his friends, including his brother, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Oswald’s wife, a dear and beloved Ortensia the cat. When they set at the birthday food table, Mickey dished out his and friends’ favorite dishes (he wished for hotdogs as usual) using the magical plate that brings up any food the birthday person wishes. When the cake arrived, it had 94 candles. Everyone started laughing as 94 candles is a ludicrous amount to but on the cake and Oswald laughed louder and harder than all of Mickey’s friends! Oh what a joke! Now came for the pieces of cake. These pieces hold a wish as the cake is a wishing-cake and the person must make a wish and eat it to make thier wish come true.

Oswald wished for fame(like usual), Ortensia wished for (I don’t know what she would wish for) I wished for magical ice power like Elsa and my (imaginary) twin made a wish for both of us twins for more fun that we ever wanted. Horace Horsecollar wished for new luckey golden horse shoes and Minnie wished for a spiffing grand sparkling dress. And what do you suppose Mickey wished? 😂 He wished that Minnie could have his kids so that He could marry her and start a family together. Minnie scowled at him and I went Ohhh-ho HO hoooo! Oswald and I were giggling and snickering because we thought this sort of wish would bite at Mick and it is funny at the same time. Oh goodness!
