Just saw Kung Fu Panda 4. I'm just gonna say it:
It is viscerally mediocre.
The only upside to it is that because of it, an idea for a much better Kung Fu Panda 4 violated all my boundaries and got into my head on its own. It has much better character development, a much better plot, and a much much MUCH better antagonist.
If this post gets 10 notes, I'll write it.

You frantically panicked feeling a hand on your back. It made you jump out of your skin, taking a leap forwards to get away. Turning around, you were panting. – “Hey it’s just me.” – Cal said holding both his hands up. You untensed knowing it was him. BD bleeped loud on his back. – “You are right.” – he told the droid. – “I’m sorry I should’ve given you a warning before touching.” – Cal told you.
You shakily shook your head. – “No… it’s fine… it’s just… something I need to get familiar with.” – you responded rubbing your hands nervously together. Cal nodded lowering his hands. He knew all too well of your journey. How touch starved you were after being in solitude for so long.
Dropped onto a forgotten planet because there was a war going on. Inquisitors raiding every planet. Your parents thought it was best to hide you on a planet not existing on the maps. Cal remembered it clear how you first shared your story after finding you.
He was on the planet to lay low from the empire for a while. What he didn’t expect was to find someone, a girl on this abandoned planet. He was for sure surprised. At first you were very wary. Keeping your distance. Only the droid was allowed to come close after a while. Cal respected your boundaries, trying to gain your trust from afar.
He kept a close eye, knowing BD was near you. It took him nearly a week to just get a few inches closer to you. By the end of the next week he achieved to sit by you. Then it took him a lot more trust and patience to be where he was now with you. Trusting him enough you shared your story. Of how your parents dropped you here with the promise to return and collect you.
You waited patiently for years. If it wasn’t for Cal dropping by, you’d still be waiting. Waiting for people that were never going to come. You did not know if they were killed or had simply forgotten about you. To be honest you couldn’t care. They abandoned you.
Cal looked briefly over his shoulder to BD. BD bleeped loud. – “May I approach?” – Cal said humorously. You laughed loud. – “Since you asked so nicely.” – you replied. Cal smirked approaching you calmly. He held his hand up, quirking his eyebrow up. You smiled slowly moving your hand up as well. Your palms touched making him smile wider. He moved his fingers down, holding your hand.
He gestured if he could come closer. Hesitant for a second, you yielded and nodded. Cal stepped closer to you. Tips of your shoes touching. He brought your entangled hand closer to his lips, leaving a sweet kiss there. It tickled making you wave your hand at the ticklish feeling. – “Now do it here.” – you said pointing at your arm. – “As my lady pleases.” – he said not minding at all. If it was up to him, he’d be kissing you non-stop all around.
He kissed your arm, giving you that same tickling sensation. – “Anywhere else Y/n?” – he asked raising his eyebrow flirty. You thought for a moment, tapping your neck gently. You didn’t have to say that twice. Cal placed his hand behind your neck, forcing you to lean your head back to give him more area to kiss. His lips kissed you so teasingly it almost made you weak on your knees.
He kissed you there trice as you chuckled enjoyable. He knew you liked it, you just needed to get more used to it. The beard that he had grown out, brushing against your smooth skin. You cleared your throat tapping your chin. Cal looked up, tilting your head more back by your chin. – “And here I thought you weren’t so keen on my touch.” – he chuckled out with a flicker of pining in his eyes.
“I have my moments.” – you answered, tapping your chin again. BD hopped off his back, letting you have some room. Cal slowly kissed your chin, his touch making you grasp onto him. Cal pulled your chin down, his lips coming in line with yours. – “My turn to choose.” – he breathed out, staring at your lips. – “Go on.” – you whispered.
Cal smirked, knowing there was something else he needed to do first. He moved his hands under your shirt against your back. Slowly letting his  hands rub your back. Your back arched as you groaned with delight. He knew it was your weak spot. So desperate for his touch all of the sudden you grabbed him, forcing your lips onto his. He kissed you like there was no one around. Well there was no one around…
When you returned to the Mantis, BD was joined by Cere. – “I was wondering what you were doing for the little one to seek out my company.” – Cere teased, giving him a head rub. – “Nothing like you think.” – Cal answered humorously. Cere hummed not believing much of it. You came sitting down. Cal coming to sit beside you.
He moved his hand between your back and the sofa, forcing you to lean a bit forwards. He let his hand slide under your shirt once more. Rubbing your back in a calming way. He felt how it untensed you. BD hopped onto the table in front of you. BD started bleeping loud moving around while giving sight to his words.
You laughed loud at what he was telling you. Cal smiled, looking over at you. Impulsively he gave your shoulder a kiss. – “I love you Y/n.” – he whispered, making Cere pretend she didn’t hear that. You turned to him. – “I love you too Cal Kestis.” – you responded.

Family matters; Peter Quill x teen reader
*Author's note*
Well this request had been sitting in my inbox for awhile and I hope the anon who requested it is out there somewhere in the deep space of tumblr because I finally came around to writing it. It took some time due to life, work and moving houses during the holiday season but finally I was able to sit down and write this oneshot.
So as with any marvel oneshot there are some warnings of swearing, violence, and alluding to SA and r*pe but not on reader but a side character. So if the last warning triggers anyone just know it's not physically named but it is mentioned so I wont be butthurt of you wish to leave the story and not continue reading. Other than that I hope you all enjoy my darlings :)

“How is it that everytime I come up with a plan we always get what we want? But whenever it’s you who comes up with the plan, we get captured?!” Rocket exclaimed as he dangled upside down along with Peter.
“I already told you it was a face off!” argued Peter.
“And we’ve told you that a face off is a trap if you’re facing off against a stronger opponent!” Nebula snarled.
“It was a pretty convincing plan at first but now I agree with Rocket and Nebula, Peter.” Mantis said.
“You are a dumbass, Quill.” Said Drax.
The Guardians of the Galaxy had decided to help aid Thor in the case of the slaughtering of Gods.  Shortly after they had parted, they came across the Aztec God temples but were soon ambushed by the Knights of Huitzilopochtli.  Thinking he could go against the Aztec God of War, Peter decided to meet with the God himself in what he liked to call a ‘face off’, however Huitzilopochtli had no interest in making any sort of bargain or peace treaty, instead he now had Rocket and Peter dangling over a lava pit while Nebula, Mantis and Drax were bound in chains by their wrists and ankles on top of stone tables.
He would first sacrifice Rocket and Peter to lava pit, but not before cutting out their hearts and feeding them to his prized jaguars.
“Quill, if we get out of this alive I swear I’ll rip your face off!” Rocket snapped as he wriggled in the chains.
“Yeah, yeah and even if we die you’ll still rip my face off. Just-just—let me think.” Huitzilopochtli’s servants soon brought up three large cages that each contained a jaguar pacing aggressively in their cages.  Hungry for blood.
“Let the ritual begin!” Huitzilopochtli proclaimed.  The drums began pounding as the chanters did their ritual chant.  Soon the Jaguar Knight came forward with a five inch steel dagger in his hands.  Suddenly a metal wire shot out and knocked the dagger out of the jaguar knight’s hands.  He let out a jaguar-like hiss as he looked up only to be kicked in the face by a young woman in pure black and grey metal suit that fit her like a glove.  A metal knife suddenly extended out from the wrist gauntlets and she cut both Rocket and Peter free from their chains.
“Come with me if you want to live.” The mechanical voice from her helmet said.  It was all a blur to the Guardians, the rescue happened to fast they hardly knew that they were escaping.  Metal and rock had flew across the air and soon the jaguars had been released and were attacking anyone close by, devouring their flesh and feasting on their hearts.
When the Guardians finally got back to their ship and took off Mantis turned to the young woman and thanked her.
“We are grateful for your help in rescuing us.” The young woman touched the side of her helmet and it let out a hiss as it unhooked itself from it’s hinges and she removed her helmet to reveal a young teenage girl with what appeared to be a cybernetic gears infused around her left eye and across her forehead (almost like a circlet).
“No problem. Although I didn’t expect to go saving the Guardians of the Galaxy.”
“Okay first question, how much for the cybernetic circlet on your head?” asked Rocket.
“Rocket!” Mantis and Peter exclaimed.
“What?!”
“Hate to tell you this Rocket but this high-grade of metal is infused to my body.” She told them.
“Never stopped me before.” Shrugged Rocket.
“I am Groot!” Groot snapped.
“I think the main question is how did you know we were down at that ritual chamber?” asked Nebula suspiciously.
“Like I said before I didn’t. I originally went to Huitzilopochtli for a faulty deal on some priceless metal my mom had struck a deal with him. My aunt was originally going to take the job but I offered to go in her place. After all, no one suspects a young girl to do any harm, right?”
“That’s the ploy I’ve done in the past.” Said Nebula.
“After securing the right metal and making the point to never cross Zaofu again, that’s when I heard the drums and I saw you guys about to become his prized jaguar’s next meal. Lucky for us, those beasts don’t have any real loyalty to him.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on just a second there kid. You said you came from Zaofu? As in the Zaofu?” asked Rocket in awe.
“The very same. Unless there’s another planet in the galaxy by that title.”
“What’s Zaofu?” asked Peter.
“Oh-ho! Next to Nidavellir, Zaofu is the second greatest planet to ever exist. It’s home to some of the strongest and rarest metal in the entire galaxy. I would very much like to go there.” Rocket boasted.
“He’s right.” Said Nebula.  “The metal from Zaofu is not only said to be the strongest but also the most durable. It’s where—Thanos gained some of my parts to make me better than Gamora.” She said looking down at her arm.
“I thought I had recognized that material. That’s our regenerative metal. Able to put itself back together no matter how extreme the damage. But we’ve only ever used that on people with birth defects or amputees. Had my mother known that it went to Thanos of all people, she’d never would’ve agreed. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. I’ve gotten used to it.” Nebula shrugged.
“I have to ask though, what is the Guardians of the Galaxy doing at the Temple of Huitzilopochtli? I mean I know you guys are willing to protect those throughout the galaxy but I didn’t think that included Gods of War.”
“It’s a long story.” Peter started off but Mantis said.
“We’re helping Thor with the God Killer.”
“Mantis!” hissed Nebula.
“What? She seems trustworthy.”
“God killer huh? That’s the first I’ve heard of it. I would’ve thought nothing could touch those deities.”
“So we thought too, but then we received a message from one of golden boy’s friends and apparently someone is literally slaughtering gods left and right. Already over 300 of them have been killed.” Explained Rocket.  The girl let out a low whistle and said.
“Hog-monkeys. Well if you’re going up against an opponent like that, you’re gonna need something a lot stronger to fight and protect yourselves with. Cause if you though old Huitzilopochtli was bad, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
“You saying you’re allowing us to come to Zaofu?” asked Rocket.
“If you’re still up for it.”
“Well let me ask the captain about that, oh yeah it’s me. Yes we’ll go!”
“Rocket how many times do I have to say it I’m the Captain.” Hissed Peter under his breath.
“You know you really shouldn’t talk that way about your Captain, Quill. By the way, you never told us your name girlie.”
“Oh right how silly of my. The name’s (Y/n) Beifong. Daughter of High Lady Suyin Beifong of Zaofu.” She introduced herself.
“Wait, Beifong? You mean the richest family in the galaxy Beifong?” asked Rocket.  “Say, do you think once we get you home and return the metal you’re people have been swindled out of, we could probably get a little reward for our part in the trade?” (Y/n) chuckled and said to him.
“Slow down there Captain, let’s just get back to Zaofu and talk to my mother about this. She’s the one in charge of the economy.” And with that the Guardians set course for the planet Zaofu.
It was a beautiful planet of green and earth all over the landscape.  Lakes and rivers so crystal clear, they reflected the very sky itself and it’s two suns gave plenty of light but no heat to the land.  As the Guardians soared over the land they soon came across an advanced city entirely made of metal.
“Agent to tower; this is Agent Beifong Badge #349876 requesting clearance to land. Tower guard this is Agent Beifong Badge #349876 requesting clearance to land.” (Y/n) said after punching in a few codes on the holographic pad in front of her.
‘Tower to Agent Beifong, your request is granted. Welcome home Princess.’ A male voice soon came up over the intercoms.
“Just take us West of the palace and land 50 degrees West heading 0-3-0.” She advised Rocket and Peter who nodded and together they followed her instructions and safely landed their ship on top of a large landing platform that stood just feet from a large skyscraper tower of the palace.  (Y/n) grabbed the metal from her ship (that had been piggy-backed in the Guardian’s ship’s lower decks).  Their ship opened up and they walked down the stairway and there stood to their right about ten guards all wearing the same metal tight uniform (Y/n) had on.
And just ahead of them stood two women.  One wore the exact same armor but over her left breast plate was a silver badge in the shape of a star while the other woman beside her wore dark green tunic that rested over her green pants and sleeveless shirt.  The tunic cover had a metal collar going around it with each plate slowly increasing in size before decreasing again as it came back around.
Much like (Y/n) a circlet rested over her head and she also wore gauntlets with metal plates in the shape of pentagons overlapping each other.  Both women looked fairly similar to each other in that both had greying hair but were fair looking, although the woman in the armor had a more gruff appearance to her while the other woman had a more gentle facial expression.
The guards all slammed their fists together, the metal from their armors sounding out a loud clank as they greeted the Princess on her safe return.  As (Y/n) and the Guardians stood before the two women, (Y/n) greeted them with a head bow.
“Chief, Mother. I have successfully secured the real metal we were promised and gave our message loud and clear to the War god Huitzilopochtli.”
“I never doubted you wouldn’t. You’re one of the best soldiers on the squad, and I’m not just saying that.” the woman in the black armor said.
“I’m just glad you’ve come home safely. And with some new friends I see.” The woman in the green tunic said.
“Yes, Mother, Chief Beifong, I’d like to introduce the Guardians of the Galaxy. They were prisoners of Huitzilopochtli when I went to secure the metal. About to be sacrificed to his prized jaguars. Guardians this is my mother and ruler of Zaofu Suyin Beifong, and my aunt and Chief of police, Lin Beifong.”
“That man knows nothing about diplomacy. Always kills first and asks questions later.” Suyin rolled her eyes.
“He is the God of War for a reason Suy.” Lin told her sister and she came up to (Y/n) and took the chess from her hands.  “I’ll take this down to our research facility.”
“Yes Chief.” (Y/n) bowed to her and both her aunt and the police force walked off towards the lab.
“Now I had asked this to your daughter earlier that since we helped your daughter recover some prized and rare metal that was promised to you, don’t you think we should be given a little compensation for helping her return what was rightfully meant to be yours?” asked Rocket as he rubbed his thumb, index and tall fingers together.
“Rocket!” exclaimed Mantis.
“How about this, we’ll talk about payment if you all stay for dinner and take some rest here tonight.” Suyin offered.
“As much as we appreciate that Lady Beifong…..” Peter started off only to be politely interrupted by Suyin.
“Please call me Suyin. Lady Beifong was my grandmother.”
“Suyin. We’re kinda in a tight schedule. Apparently someone’s killing gods and we promised not-very good looking Thor that we’d try and figure out who’s behind the killings.”
“Actually I might have some information in regards to that. But in order to go up against him, you’re gonna need some of our weapons and armor. Come, join me and my family for dinner and we’ll discuss everything.” With that suggestion and offer, the Guardians accepted Suyin’s offer and joined the Beifong family for dinner.
After coming to a negotiation, Suyin had her engineers and scientists build and forge the Guardians new weapons and tech to take down any gods like Huitzilopochtli’s forces and powers.  While observing the engineers add some new parts to their ship, Peter soon heard the sound of rocks being thrown around and crashing into a wall.
He went to investigate when he saw (Y/n) bending not only the rocks but metal as well.  Shooting out a metal wire to cut apart some trees and pull their branches off, or successfully transform the large boulders into various shapes before firing them at various targets.
“I thought I was going crazy at first seeing you do all that back at Jaguar-man’s palace.” She jumped and fired one of her metal wires which wrapped around Peter in a tight cocoon sending him on his back.
“Oh Star-lord, forgive me I tend to strike whenever someone surprises me like that.” She released her wires and they zipped back into her gauntlets while Peter assured her.
“No worries, I’ve had worse done to me before.” She helped him up and he asked her.  “So I’m guessing this is a normal after dinner activity for you?”
“I like to come out here to get away from it all. Don’t get me wrong I love my family to death but—sometimes I feel like I don’t belong here.”
“What do you mean?”
“Promise you won’t go blabbing to my mom about this?”
“Cross my heart.” Peter said as he crossed his heart for emphasis.  (Y/n) extended her hand and two small rocks slowly rose up from the ground over her palm and as she slowly wriggled her fingers, the rocks spun in a gentle circle around each other in a dance over her palm.
“Believe it or not, this ability I’m doing right now. I’m the only person in my family that can do this.”
“But don’t the Beifong family have the ability to control metal?”
“It’s true to a degree. The suit of armor that both me and my aunt Lin wear, it helps them control metal but without it, they’re powerless. Ever since I was a young girl and discovered I could bend earth to my will, my mother said it was because of my father’s gift. But the thing is, my father doesn’t have this ability, nor does anyone in his bloodline. I’ve tried to ask my mother for the truth but she always tells me that it’d be too much for me to bear.”
“So you think that your mom—”
“Cheated on her real husband? I doubt it, cause whenever I did ask about him in the past, there’s always this—pure hatred in her eyes. But she always told me that who he was didn’t matter. Baatar is my real father and my real brothers and sister are here. Aunt Lin is my real aunt and I am a Beifong through and through. But deep down I get this feeling that maybe I should make that decision for myself. On whether or not I should have the chance to meet him or not.”
“I get it. Sorta. I mean I thought that when I met my dad, he’d be everything I thought I’d ever longed for. Only to turn out that he killed my mother and tried to use me to conquer the entire galaxy. He may have been my father, but he wasn’t my daddy. I learned that from my real father after he had sacrificed himself to save me.”
“That’s heavy.” Whistled (Y/n).
“Yeah, it was. But Yondu was a good dad to me.” He said as he took out his Zune player.  “So your uhh—earth bending powers, how did you discover them?” Peter then tried to change the subject before he started to cry over his memories of Yondu.  (Y/n) smiled knowing this type of maneuver (her brothers did this all the time whenever they’d try to be strong and hardcore).
“Like I said, I was a young when it happened. I was just playing with my sister Opal out by the lake skipping rocks when suddenly as I reached out for one, my hands glew this bright blue light and the rock just shot up into my palm. We were both so scared that we ran to my mother crying in fear. I honestly don’t remember much after that but my mother had my aunt teach me how to control it. Got me my first metal-bending suit and I’ve been training with her ever since.”
Hearing her mention the blue light it perked Peter’s curiosity and he asked her.
“This blue light, can you describe it in anyway? Like what it made you feel when it came to you?”
“I—I don’t know how to explain it but….I do remember it being almost like my palms were on fire, yet they didn’t burn me. It felt like—like when you touch warm sand on a beach. Yet there was this feeling of—power to it. Like I could do anything with it.” Peter’s eyes widened.
He did remember that feeling when Ego told him about his Celestial heritage and taught him how to summon the light to his hands.  No but it—it couldn’t be? Could it? Could she really be his…….
“(Y/N)! Aunt Lin says she needs to speak to you about your armor! Says she’s got an upgrade for you!” one of her brothers called out to her.  She turned and exclaimed back.
“I’ll be there in a sec Wei!” she turned to Peter and said, “Better not keep Aunt Lin waiting. She hates it when people keep her waiting.”
“Yeah, yeah I better go and talk to the team about our next game plan. Also tell your aunt thanks for letting us use some of her police weapons.”
“She may not be happy about lending our weapons to non-Zaofuians but she’ll get over it, especially since it’s going to the Guardians of the Galaxy. But I’ll give her your regards anyways.” They went their separate ways and once Peter saw that no one was around, he took off sprinting towards Mantis’ room and rapidly knocked on her door.
“Could you be any louder at knocking Peter? I don’t think the others from Knowhere heard you.” Mantis whined with a groan.
“We need to talk.” Peter said urgently.  Sensing the urgency in his tone and knowing that this was a serious matter, Mantis allowed her brother inside and she shut the door behind her as well as locked it.  “You will not believe the conversation that I just had with (Y/n).”
“Are we being taken prisoners again?” asked Mantis worriedly.
“What no! No! Look, I know this may seem out of nowhere, but I want you to tell me first about when Ego found you and tried to make you feel a connection to the Celestial light.”
“Why would you want to know about that?”
“Just trust me Mantis. Please.” She looked into her brother’s eyes and saw the desperation but also some inkling of knowledge that he was going to fill her in on the details later.
“I had lied when I had told Drax and Gamora that Ego found me in my larva stage. He had actually came for me shortly after my mother had passed. Much like when Yondu came for you, he brought me to his planet and trained me just like he did you. But when I tried to make a connection to the light, all that awakened within me was my empathic abilities. Ego then told me that even though I’d never be able to help him with the Expansion, he still could find a purpose for me. And I had been forced to convince various of our other siblings to go along with us, before he said that I would only be used to help him sleep.”
“Wow, he really was a jackass.”
“Now will you tell me why you asked me about that?”
“(Y/n)’s ability to move earth, you know how she could bend those rocks back at Jaguar dude’s temple, turns out she has a connection to the Celestial light.”
“Are you saying that……(Y/n) is our—”
“Sister? I think she might be.”
“But how? When Ego died, you lost your connection to the Celestial light.”
“I don’t know. But the way she described the Light within her hands was exactly the same way it felt with me when I made my connection to it.”
“Did you tell her the truth?”
“Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaa—no.” stretched Peter.
“Peter we must tell her the truth. She deserves to know!” Peter stepped in front of her and said.
“I know she deserves to know but at the same time we can’t cause any family drama amongst the Beifongs. (Y/n) told me how everytime she brought up about her real dad, Suyin got this burning anger in her eyes and told her that they were her family, not him. And after seeing the way (Y/n) fights against Aztec Gods I’d hate to fight against her own mother and aunt.”
“So what are we going to do?” she asked him.
“I’ll think of something. Until I do, this stays between us okay? I mean it don’t tell anyone about this conversation to anyone else, especially Drax. You know he can’t keep a secret to save his own skin.”
“I promise.” She held out her pinkie and Peter wrapped his pinkie around hers.  “Sister’s promise.”
“Brother’s oath.” Peter replied back as they shook pinkies.
After about 3 days, the Guardians were finally ready to take off to find more Gods to save and check up on.
“We can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for us Suyin.” Peter thanked her.
“It was our pleasure to help in aiding the Guardians of the Galaxy. And if you’re ever passing by this way again, our doors will always be open to you.” Said Suyin with a respectable bow.  The Guardians bowed back to her before heading back to their ship, but it was then Peter stopped midway up the ramp when he said.
“Actually, there is something else we’d like to ask for.” The rest of the Guardians paused and turned to Peter.
“And just what would that be?” asked Chief Lin suspiciously.
“We’d like to extend an invitation to (Y/n) in joining us.” Everyone but Mantis became wide-eyed.  “After our experience with the Aztec god of war, we realized that we are heavily out-manned and she managed to take down all his forces single-handedly while also saving our asses. And if ever we need a tune-up she would know more about how to fix your special enhanced metal material.”
“Quill, I only had to be with Zaofu’s engineers for only 2 minutes and I can get the hang of it.” Proclaimed Rocket.
“Still it couldn’t hurt to have an expert who actually came from the place of its origins be with us should we ever need it. Two heads are better than one right?” Suyin was stunned as she turned to her youngest child and asked her.
“This is up to you (Y/n). Do you wish to go with the Guardians?” (Y/n) looked between both her family and the Guardians with a heavy heart.  She then walked up to her mother and spoke from the heart.
“My heart will always belong to Zaofu. But from the days that I would be with Aunt Lin on missions, I have seen great suffering. Some of which has been at the hands of our own metal smuggled by black marketers. I feel like Zaofu can do more for the galaxy than we already have.” Suyin sighed as she closed her eyes.
“You are my youngest child (Y/n). And I had hoped to have you remain at my side for a few more years. But now I see that you are no longer a child anymore. And at some point, I must learn to let go. If you should ever wish to return home, we’ll be here waiting for you.” (Y/n) smiled and embraced her mother.
“I love you mom.”
“I love you too.” After embracing her mother, she stood before her aunt and prepared to surrender her badge but Lin held out her hand to stop her.
“Keep it. I didn’t make you an officer of Zaofu for nothing.” She bowed before her aunt before hugging her.  Lin smiled softly down at her and embraced her back.  (Y/n) then bid goodbye to all her brothers and sister as well as her dad before turning to the Guardians and joining alongside them.
As they entered and the ramp slid back up, (Y/n) took one last look at her family as they bid her goodbye and she wiped her hidden tears away and waved to them in return before the Guardian’s ship left Zaofu.
Now heading to their next destination to answer the next signal from some Light elves on Álfheimr (Y/n) soon spotted Peter on the upper main decks looking out into the endless starry sky.
“So what was the real reason?” she asked him.
“Huh?” Peter turned to her.
“The real reason you offered me a spot on the Guardians.”
“What are you talking about kid? What I said was 100% true. Rocket may think he’s smart but no one can really understand Zaofu metal than someone who was raised there. And…..”
“Peter, I know you’re lying.”
“What so you can detect when people are lying?”
“In a sense. My grandmother was born blind, so one day she ran off and found herself lost in a cave until she came across some badger-moles. They were blind just like her, but they used the earth as an extension of their senses. She learned out to see the world through the earth around her. Feeling seismic energy of people’s footsteps and even hearing their heartbeats through the earth. And when my mom and aunt were born, she taught it to them, and then Aunt Lin taught it to me. And last night, your heartrate was beating rapidly when I told you about my powers. So come on, out with it.” Peter sighed and confessed.
“Okay, so obviously you know how I found out my dad was a real douchebag and tried to destroy the galaxy. But before that, he taught me that being a Celestial he had a connection to the Light, and he taught it to me as well as Mantis. Even though Mantis didn’t have a connection to it, she still proved a purpose by awakening her empathic powers. As for me, I did have a connection to the Light. And it was that same connection that you said you felt when you first discovered your powers.”
“So you can earth-bend too?”
“No. I mean I did when I fought Ego, but after we had killed him to stop the Expansion, I lost my connection to the Light. Yet somehow, you still have it.” (Y/n) stared at him and slowly her harsh expression turned to shock as she cautiously said.
“Wait…….so, you’re suggesting that I—”
“Ego told me he spent eons trying to find a second Celestial to bring forth the expansion but each of his children failed him. So he had them killed. Millions of children slaughtered all because they couldn’t live up to his expectations, except me. And in a way, you. But your mom and the rest of Zaofu refused to surrender you to him. That’s probably why she never talked about your real father.”
(Y/n) was stunned silent as she fell to her knees.  She looked down at her shaky hands and Peter slowly knelt down in front of her.
“But he’s gone. He’s gone for good. We blew up his core and there’s absolutely no chance of him ever coming back. And if by some insane, unexplainable reason that he ever does come back, he won’t get to you. Because you’ve not only got your family on Zaofu on yourself, but you’ve also got us, Especially Mantis and I.” (Y/n) looked up at him and asked.
“You and Mantis are……”
“As surprising as it seems, yeah. She’s my sister. Half-sister but my sister nonetheless. And so are you.” He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and gently shook it which got her to smile.
“At least now I can say I’ve got another sister to add to the ranks.”
“Oh come on, having another big brother can’t be that bad. Especially if that brother is me. C’mon at least admit that I’m the coolest out of all your brothers.” She stood back up laughing as she walked away. “(Y/n)? C’mon (Y/n) admit it! I know you want to say it but you’re just too stubborn to admit it. Not every girl can say their big brother is a member of the Guardians, right? Right? (Y/n)! (Y/N)!!!!”

Word Count: 6,992
There was only just enough time for you to register the color blue in the dim light before your would-be punching victim grabbed your wrist to block the blow and in one fluid motion had you spun facing away from them with your arm pinned behind your back. Soon followed the same gruff voice, which you now realized to be Yondu's, saying, "Alright, easy now-"
The two of you stood there for a moment with him pinning your arm firmly behind your back, your breath coming in quick bursts as your heart threatened to launch itself from your chest.
He spoke again. "For yer benefit I'm gonna assume that ya didn't mean that," he was clearly referring to you nearly sucker punching him, "-which is the only reason you're still standing. Now, if I let you go are ya gonna behave?"
Wordlessly, you nod.
"Alright then. I'm gonna let you go and you can explain yourself."
He released your arm and you slowly turn to face him, your gaze not quite meeting his. "Sorry." you say quietly. Then, slightly more loudly, "Did you need something?"
"Well, I was a little curious as to why ya just ran out the house like that, but now I kinda wanna know why ya just tried to knock my block off."
Your face began to grow hot. You had been in such a hurry you hadn't noticed anyone else on your way out. Then again, you hadn't been looking too hard either. Furthermore, what could you say? That you were running away from some spiders? You didn't think you could bring yourself to admit it.
"I- um," your gaze fell to the ground, "Did anyone else see?" you asked, declining to answer why you just swung at him. Again, what would even say?
Yondu let a short laugh out his nose. "Nah, pretty sure I was the only one. Surprised you didn't see me, I was right there in the hall." After a beat he spoke again, "Now come on. Out with it."
Unsure if he still meant why you ran out, or why you about hit him, you reply, "Nothing. What do you care for?" Crossing your arms over your chest, you continue to look anywhere but towards him.
"Just curious. People usually don't run out of a place like that unless something's wrong. Thought I'd investigate to make sure you weren't chasing after something or need backup. Then I find ya hiding behind the shed and ya just tried to knock my block off and so now I figure something must be goin' on with ya."
"I don't want to talk about it," you say sullenly, your face growing hotter.
"Why? It can't be any worse than any of what you've already told me."
Finally meeting his gaze you offer nothing more than a glare.
He rolled his eyes with a smirk. "Alright. Don't tell me then. I also won't tell you about that spider crawling in your hair either."
It had just been a joke- just some good-natured ribbing- but it didn't take long to he realized he fucked up.
No sooner than those words left his lips you reacted very badly, jumping out of your skin and immediately batting at your hair to get the alleged spider off of you. Then you half-collapse onto the wall of the shed and begin quietly sobbing.
He simply stared at you a moment, too stunned to speak. Something was very wrong. It was finally clear you weren't just being moody- but fuck- what should he do?
"Um, hey now..." he said awkwardly, eyes wide.
You didn't respond. Just continued to sob, unable to stop, your cries muffled behind your hands.
"Come on now- I didn't mean anythin' by it," Yondu tried again.
Still, you didn't acknowledge him.
He debated if he should try and nudge you or something, or if that might result in you swinging at him again. Damn. He hated seeing people cry. He needed it to stop. But what should he do? Walk away? Shake some sense into you?
Eventually he rolled his eyes and sighed before saying, "Aw hell, come here-" as he grabbed you and pulled you into a tight bear hug.
Apparently it worked. The shock of it all- combined with the fact he practically knocked the wind out of you- startled you into silence mid-sob.
"What... are you doing?" you asked after several moments, confusion evident in your voice.
"Had to make ya stop somehow, and slapping ya just seemed kinda mean seein' as ya were already crying." There was an edge of humor to his voice that almost made you crack a smile yourself. He spoke up again after a moment. "So, ya done now?"
You sniff and nodded your head the best you could despite being squished up against his chest.
"Alright. I'm gonna let ya go... again... and then I want ya to tell me what this is all about."
He could feel you slump in defeat, but let you go anyway.
Once free, you took a step back and looked at the ground, wrapping your arms around yourself.
"Well?"
"It's- I don't... I mean- ugh." You covered your face with your hands. You just didn't know how to say it, so eventually you settled for. "It was just a rough day."
"Just 'a rough day,' huh?"
You nod, still not looking at him.
Yondu frowned, but said, "Well, it ain't gonna get any better standing out here in the cold. Ya ain't even got any shoes on. Come on." He gestured you back in the house.
You finally look up at him, but instead of following, you stiffened.
Yondu furrowed his brow. "What?"
You again looked down in shame. "I-... I can't." you said quietly.
He raised an eyebrow and looked towards the house in confusion before turning back to you. "What do ya mean ya 'can't??'"
With a groan you look toward the sky. "If I tell you, you have to promise not to say a word to anyone else." Returning your gaze back to Yondu you finish with a, "Understand?"
Yondu chuckles shortly. "Sure, whatever ya say." Finally- maybe you'd finally tell him what this all was about.
It takes you a few moments, but you finally manage to get out a quiet, "There are spiders in my bed."
He raised an eyebrow, his face a mixture of confusion and amusement. "That's it? Ya found a spider in yer bed, and it sent ya runnin' for the hills?"
You frown at him, then mutter that there were, in fact, two spiders in your bed.
"Ah, two spiders. I see."
From the sound of his voice it was clear he was holding back a laugh, and you frown at him.
Yondu crossed his arms. "Well you'd oughtta know that I'd find that at least a little funny, considering..."
A sigh left your nose. Of course you knew he was referring to the fake spider you had hid in Peter's bed awhile back, and that Yondu had confiscated in an attempt to stop you and Peter from pranking each other. The irony wasn't lost on you either. Didn't make you any happier about your situation, though. "Not helping."
"Are ya asking?"
"What?" You raise an eyebrow.
"Are ya asking?" He says again, almost grinning. "Are ya asking me to help ya with yer little problem."
You stammered a bit, unsure what to say. Of course you weren't! Were you? Should you? Absolutely not- you weren't a child... and yet...
With a short laugh Yondu claps a hand on your shoulder and pushes you toward the house. "Understood. Ya need someone to come squish some creepy crawlies for ya."
You pull away. "No- No I never said that."
"Didn't need to." Yondu said with a grin. "It's all over yer face. Don't worry, I won't tell nobody... long as ya make it worth it."
You narrow your eyes at him. "What do you mean?"
"Oh, nuttin much... Let's just say you'll owe me a favor and we'll call it even."
"What... kind of favor?" you ask, hesitantly.
"Well that's for me to know when the time comes. Do ya want my help or not?"
By now most of your adrenaline was wearing off and you were starting to feel the cold. He was right, you couldn't just stay out here all night- especially without any shoes or jacket. However, at the same time you knew you couldn't go back inside to your bed if those spiders were still in it. Damn it. You knew you were going to have to take his offer.
"Fine. Just... don't make it obvious. Please." Eyes squinting, you search him for any signs that he intended to trick or embarrass you, but you couldn't quite read him.
He didn't answer you either, just motioned you towards the house with that half-grin.
Letting out a silent breath, you finally start to make your way back toward the house, hoping to get it over with a soon as possible.
Once inside it was quiet. It appeared that no one noticed at all that you had even left the house let alone what transpired outside. You didn't peek inside the sitting room door as you approached the staircase, but it seemed the TV had been shut off and you heard someone utter the words "draw four," which told you the others were possibly wrapped in game of cards, which at least let you know they were otherwise occupied.
Yondu and you quietly made your way upstairs to your room, and once there, you hesitated at the door. Yondu simply grinned and shook his head, but entered first anyway, you slowly following behind him after a quick glance around to make sure you were alone upstairs.
Once you were both in the room Yondu glanced over your slightly disheveled bed before nodding, seeing that two spiders were indeed still in your bed. Quietly, but not in a whisper, he says, "These here, I take it?"
You nod.
Shaking his head with an amused grin he got down to business. A sharp whistle pierced the air, summoning his arrow and spearing both of the giant feckers in one go before catching the weapon in his fist. He stood there, admiring his kill stuck upon his arrow.
"They bite?" he asked, curious as to why you harbored such animosity towards these little critters in particular.
You shake your head. "Not really," you answer. They could, but you knew they rarely did. Even if they did they weren't poisonous, for that matter.
"Then why is it ya hate them so bad for?"
You frown at him. You knew it was irrational, but that didn't matter. What mattered now is that they were gone.
Yondu didn't mind your lack of answer, and didn't have time to press the matter further as the sound of footsteps could be heard making their way quickly to the stairs from below before Peter could then be heard somewhat apprehensively calling up from the bottom.
"Um Yondu..." he called, letting a pause linger after as if he were unsure. "We heard a whistle- Like a really familiar whistle... I really hope no one's being threatened with an arrow up there... We noticed that it's just you and the Agent that aren't accounted for..."
"Quit yer worryin,' boy! I was just getting some target practice!" Yondu hollered back down.
"That doesn't exactly inspire confidence about what I just asked!" Peter called back up, sounding a little more worried now.
"Everything's fine," you think to answer back, forcing a laugh into your voice. "Looks like he just took out some spiders."
"Ok..." Peter responds. "If that changes let us know..."
"Come on now!" Yondu scolded, seemingly jokingly. "I'm insulted. Thinkin' I'd just go whippin' out my arrow and be terrorizin' a lady for no reason!"
"Don't give me that!" Peter called up. "I've seen what you do when you're bored!"
Yondu actually looked genuinely offended by that, and with another whistle his arrow took off again and it was seconds before Peter could be heard screaming like a little girl, quickly followed by him scolding Yondu that he 'could have at least cleaned the spider guts off it first!'
Admittedly you had to fight a grin, and Yondu was pleased to see it as he called back his arrow, Peter seemingly having retreated back to the sitting room to rejoin the others after yelling back a final, "Dickhead!" He either ignored, or had been given too much a fright to notice, that the arrow had come out of your bedroom.
The spiders were now gone off the tip of his arrow, but you chose to ignore it as he went to holster it. You could deal with the corpses later- you didn't mind so much if they were dead and you had a dustpan.
Yondu happened to glance over at the bed once his arrow was in its place and noticed he had sliced a clean cut in your bedsheets when he speared the spiders. He gestured to it and said with a half-apologetic chuckle, "Looks like we got a casualty."
You shook your head and told him not to worry about it, but stopped him just as he was turning to leave.
"Um, thank you," you mutter awkwardly, rubbing the back of your head.
He simply grinned back at you cockily and replied, "Just a simple transaction is all. Pleasure to be doing business." With that, he turned and left.
His footsteps sounded down the stairs and you turned to look at your bed before carefully reaching to gingerly pull back your blanket, momentarily wondering if you should have asked him to stay longer just in case you found more, but ultimately knowing you would have felt like even more of a child if you had.
Luckily you found no more, but you did completely strip your bed of it's sheets and remade it with fresh ones, throwing the ones the spiders had spoiled with their presence in your hamper to be washed in the morning. Again, you knew it was irrational, but there was no way you'd be able to bring yourself to sleep in that bed with sheets you knew recently had spiders crawling in them.
This also meant you now needed to go upstairs to the attic to fetch a spare blanket, seeing as yours was also now in the hamper to be washed.
Climbing the attic stairs you couldn't help but also wonder what exactly Yondu would call in for his favor, and if you might come to regret this "transaction," or not. To late for that now, you supposed. All you knew know was that as soon as you retrieved a blanket you were hitting the showers and going straight to bed. Hopefully tomorrow would be better.
* * *
Luckily, the next few days were relatively smooth sailing.
Nearly the first thing you did when you woke up the next morning was to think to order some spider repellent online. Fast shipping of course.
All you had to do in the meantime was wait. Fortunately the spiders seemed to be giving you a break for now. What you didn't know, however, was that the reason for this was largely due to Yondu quietly running any he saw through with his arrow under the guise of target practice and boredom if anyone else noticed. Of course he never mentioned it to you. In fact, he'd barely seen you since that night aside from when you'd come up to him when no one else was around to ask him about that favor you now owed him, only for him to flippantly tell you that he'd figure it out later.
Groot might have possibly eaten a couple spiders as well when he was able to evade Rocket's eye. But that was less for your benefit and more because he wanted a snack.
When the morning came that you got the notification that your spider spray was waiting for you at the post office you quickly readied yourself to go back into town.
Your intent was to slip out quietly, but you were surprised by Mantis speaking up from behind you as you were slipping on your jacket.
"Are you leaving?"
You jolt, not expecting to hear her, and turned only to be surprised to see her wearing a pout. Raising an eyebrow, you answer, "Um, yeah. Just gotta run to the post real quick. Did you need something?"
"I want to see the Terran town! Can I go? Pleeease?"
"Oh-" You blinked, puzzled. She had never expressed interest in going before, at least not that you had noticed? Come to think of it, would that really even be the best idea? People would definitely start staring at her completely black eyes and those antennae...
Wincing slightly, you notice Peter and Gamora walking into the hall, and speak up so they might hear. "You're wanting to go into town, Mantis?" You weren't sure what they'd do, but you hoped they might see the impending bad idea and talk her out of it instead.
"Yes!" She gestured over to Peter, who had now stopped to exchange glances with Gamora upon hearing you. "Peter and Kraglin have gotten to go into town so many times! I want to see too!" She now dropped her pout in favor of excitement, and you were now worried she had mistook your question for an offer.
"Did I hear my name?" Kraglin asked, entering the hall from the kitchen.
Mantis nodded. "Yes! You and Peter got to go with the Agent into town many times. I'm going this time!"
Gamora meets your gaze and she seems to be on the same page as you. "Um, Mantis... I'm not sure-"
Kraglin interrupts, clueless. "Ya better hope the Agent has a hat to cover your feelers there, Mant."
Mantis looks confused, but then Peter chimes in before her feelings even have a chance to be hurt. "Yeah, gotta remember we're undercover."
Now Mantis grins wide and turns back to you excitedly. "Do you have a hat!?"
You just stood there a minute. Blinking. Part of you was annoyed they had seemingly made the decision without you. The other part was surprised that you hadn't thought of covering her with a hat in the first place- after all, you had made Peter wear sunglasses the first time he went into town with you, which wouldn't be too bad an idea in this case too now that you thought of it... Wait- what were you saying? You couldn't take her into town! You've seen how easily distracted she can be-
But damn it- that face! You knew you couldn't say no now. Begrudgingly you reply, "I think I might have something in the attic."
Mantis squealed excitedly as you glide your gaze over to Gamora and Peter. For a moment you wondered why she was looking at Peter that way before she met your gaze again somewhat apologetically and you immediately knew what she was about to say next despite you narrowing your eyes warningly.
"Perhaps Peter should go too?" She glanced back at Peter. "Give Agent a break while she runs her errands?"
You continue to glare at her as Peter shrugs and says he won't argue with a chance to get out of here for a bit. Damn it. You knew she likely just wanted some space again and found an out to get some. You attempted to curb your annoyance with the silver lining that this was further proof that she truly hadn't taken Rocket's words to heart when he pulled that stunt of trying to convince her you were gonna steal Peter.
Then, on cue, Yondu walks through from the sitting room towards the kitchen, only to clap Kraglin on the shoulder and say, "Ya should probably go with 'em too then, Krags. Quill may be watching Bug for the Agent, but who's gonna watch him?"
Yondu laughed as Peter protested the insult, and as you turned your glare to him he threw you a wink right before disappearing into the kitchen. Clearly he had heard the previous conversion happening and simply wished to stir the pot. Bastard.
Taking a deep breath, you state you're going to check the attic real quick for a hat that might work for Mantis. Maybe you'd take your time, figure out how a trip alone turned into you now bringing three people with you. You tell the others to get ready to leave while you look as you turn to head upstairs.
It didn't take you too long to find a hat. There had happened to be one hanging on an old coat rack near the top of the attic stairs. Only thing was it wasn't exactly... subtle. It was an old wide-brimmed sunhat that you think might have belonged to your mother, but you weren't sure. All you know is that you had never even bothered to wear it to play dress-up as a kid, which is probably the only reason it was still in decent condition with as old as it'd have to be.
Without bothering to look around for anything a little less... noticeable... you grabbed the hat, beat off the dust, and headed back downstairs. The faster you'd get all this over with the better. You were just going to pop in and grab your package after all. How much trouble could they possibly get into?
You return downstairs and find that Gamora had left, leaving Peter, Kraglin, and Mantis waiting for you in the hall. She was already wearing the sunglasses and beaming excitedly over how she'd finally get a turn to leave the house. Someone, likely Peter, had already managed to locate them and gave them to her. However, unlike Peter who had put on his jacket and Kraglin who was currently slipping his poncho over his head, Mantis didn't appear to have anything of the sort. When you questioned this, as it wasn't very warm out, she informed you that she didn't have one.
You frowned and handed over the hat, which she put on gleefully. "Wait here a minute. I'll grab you something." And back up the stairs you went, knowing that you had a cardigan or two in your dresser. You pulled out a brown one and went back downstairs to hand it to her. "Ok, now is everyone ready?"
Mantis nodded excitedly as the other two shrugged their affirmatives. They, of course, were happy to get out of the house for a change, but they were no where near as excited as Mantis.
With a sigh, you motion them out the door and off you went.
* * *
Mantis was a chatterbox the whole way into town. She gushed over the trees as you drove past, and pointed out every animal she spotted- mostly livestock- and asked what they were from the back seat.
Admittedly it was a little endearing, her innocent excitement. She didn't even ask "Are we there yet?" throughout the long ride, too enamored with the scenery to care.
Mantis gasped when you finally approached the town, right before she joyously squealed that she was finally getting to see a Terran town. You couldn't help but grin at her enthusiasm as you pulled into a parking spot at the post office.
Rightfully assuming she'd want to come inside to ogle the post office interior, you didn't even bother asking if the others wanted to come inside or stay in the car. Hell, Mantis had practically jumped out before you even parked.
...And started off down the street.
"Mantis!" you yell, causing her to immediately turn around, nearly losing her hat as she done so. "Don't run off, I don't want you getting lost."
"Oh-" Mantis said, before nodding her head with a smile and coming back to rejoin the group and following you into the building.
There was no line today, which you took as a blessing. Wouldn't have to worry about too many people gawking at your housemates as Mantis busied herself ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the postcards in her out of season sunhat and sunglasses getup while Peter and Kraglin watched over her fondly as they glanced over some old magazines, waiting on you to retrieve your package.
Within a few minutes the woman behind the counter handed you over the box with your spider repellent and you thanked her before turning back to the others and gesturing them to follow you out.
The second the four of you were out Mantis piped up asking excitedly where you'd all be going next.
Truthfully, you had only planned to grab your package and head back home, but something about the excitement on her face made you preemptively feel bad to disappoint her. Before you could decide what to do, Mantis announced she spotted some flowers in a window box and then promptly stepped into the street, right in front of an oncoming car.
Luckily Peter was quicker than you in that moment and snatched her back before anything bad could happen, though the driver of the car did yell some choice words at her as he drove by. Mantis wasn't even phased, though Peter did scold her for walking out in front of a car. Perhaps it was good he and Kraglin came after all…
With a stern look you tell Mantis and the others to get in the car before someone actually did get run over.
Sensing that you were displeased with what just happened, Mantis didn't argue, but that didn't stop her from asking again what they could see next.
You thought for a moment... what could it really hurt to stay in town for just a little longer?
"Say, what do you guys think about bringing pizza back for dinner?"
"I mean, I'm game," Peter replies for the other two, "but the cheese might be a problem..."
"Ah shit, right. I forgot about Yondu." you say, frowning, but then a light bulb goes off in your brain. "Oh wait- I can't believe I didn't think of this before! There's medicine for lactose intolerance. We can pick it up right from the shop."
Kraglin raised an eyebrow. "Lactose intolerance? I thought it was that 'dairy' stuff he couldn't have? The hell is 'lactose?'"
"Yes- I mean, lactose intolerance is just what they call it when you can't have dairy. Look-" you shake your head as if waving off the conversation, "If you guys want to try pizza we can pick him up some of that medicine so he can have it too, or we can not do that. Your choice."
Mantis and Kraglin look at Peter for his opinion as he would presumably know if this 'pizza' was worth trying, and so he shrugs and nods. "Sure," he says, the other two deciding to nod with him, Mantis smiling wide- obviously excited to try some new Terran food.
"Alright. We'll stop by the shop first and pick up the medicine. There's this one pizza shop nearby that should be good for carry out."
With no arguments from anyone, you set off for the shop.
Mantis behaved liked an excited toddler. She ran off no fewer than 4 times in what was supposed to be a short visit to just grab some over the counter lactose intolerance medication. Sure, it was still a little endearing to see someone clearly so happy and excited to see so many new things, but also a little exhausting since Peter and Kraglin didn't seemed too concerned with her running all over the place. Some help they were.
You finally check out - with a few extra items like soda and napkins alone with the medicine - and get everyone rounded back up in the car to head off towards the pizza shop.
When you get there you figured three large pizzas would be more than enough to feed everyone, and let the other's look at the menu to decide what they wanted to try and what they thought the others would eat.
In the end the order wound up being one pepperoni and peppers (mostly to have a safe choice), one vegetation with peppers, tomato, mushrooms, and onions, with pineapple and sweet corn on half (Mantis insisted she wanted to try that, and you supposed she could pick them off when she realized that wasn't a great idea), and one loaded up with meats like pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, and even chicken (they figured that would be more enjoyed by Rocket, and probably also easiest to be filling for Drax.)
The place wasn't very busy at the moment, but it still would take a little bit for them to make the pizzas, so you decide to take the others outside to walk about while you wait.
Just like with the post office and the grocery shop, Mantis was amazed with everything, even though you personally didn't see anything particularly special about most of it. Then again, you were used to all of it. To her this was a completely new place. Again, endearing, but increasingly exhausting trying to keep up with her.
Exhausting to the point that you took a moments pause and looked over at Peter who was just chatting to Kraglin with a blasé attitude. "How do you guys keep up with her?" you ask, a littler perturbed that they weren't help keep track of her as was supposed to be their reason for coming. Well, Peter's anyway. You supposed Kraglin was technically holding up his end since he was staying with Peter, though you knew that whole "If Peter's watching Mantis, who's gonna watch him?" was just Yondu messing around.
Peter shrugged. "We mostly don't. I mean, she's never gotten lost before. She always turns back up sooner or later."
Well that explained why they didn't seem too concerned that she kept running off.
You simply sigh in response and look back in the direction you last saw her, only to see that unlike each time she'd wandered before, this time you had completely lost sight of her.
Eyes wide, you get Peter's attention again. "She's gone."
"Don't worry so much. She'll turn back up. She always does."
You scoff at him and turn to look all around you. You couldn't see her anywhere for a good thirty seconds before finally spotting her by her hat down an alleyway across the street. "Shit. You two stay right here, I'm gonna go grab her."
Not waiting for an answer you took off, quickly avoiding cars as you crossed the street towards Mantis. You were glad it wasn't dark yet, unless you counted the storm clouds that had started moving in on an otherwise overcast day. Last thing you would need was for the sky to open up before you all got back to the pizza shop. But no time for worrying about that now, because you just fully noticed where Mantis was walking.
She was heading toward what appeared to be a white, unmarked van, and you didn't like the looks of it. It was parked at the back of the alley where the alleyway turned, and you could only see the back half, as the front half was obscured by a building.
Rarely does something good ever come from an unmarked van. Especially in an alley. You knew from experience, both from working jobs where you had to find people who used them to kidnap the vulnerable, and from working jobs were you were the one inside the van, tracking those who might do harm. Sure, you might have been the good guy, but what happened to the assholes wasn't exactly nice for them either.
"Mantis!" you call out, picking up the pace, but she doesn't seem to hear you. So, you start jogging as Mantis continued getting closer to the van. You call out her name again, but again, nothing. Damn it. Switching to a full run, you notice the back lights turn on, like someone had just turned the ignition key. If there was someone unsavory in there and they grabbed her they could take off down the rest of the alley and you'd never catch them. What if they were traffickers? What if the people after the Guardians had found them and they were stalking them in that van?
Ok, so maybe you were catastrophizing, but better safe than sorry.
You finally catch up to Mantis and grab her, startling her as you jerked her away from the van. As you start pulling her back in the direction that you came the van pulls away. Perhaps this wasn't 'one of those vans' after all, but still. You had every right to be worried.
"Didn't you hear me call you?"
"No- I'm sorry!" She winced, knowing she messed up. "I didn't mean to run off again- there was just this pretty insect and I didn't want to lose it!"
Whatever the insect had been, it was long gone now, but your anger wasn't. "You just can't keep running off like that. You could have gotten lost. And don't ever go near an unmarked van, do you hear me?" Your tone was harsh, scolding.
"Sorry," Mantis replied, nodding. She looked sad from getting yelled at, but you willed yourself to ignore it.
The two of you were quiet for a moment after, you just focused on getting her back to the others, before Mantis spoke up again. "Agent? Why were you afraid?"
"What? I wasn't afrai-" It was then you realized you were still holding her hand, and you promptly let go of it. "Thought we talked about you not doing that without asking," you scold, irritated.
Mantis apologized again. "I didn't mean to- I promise! You startled me and I just... sort of did it on instinct?"
You toss her a quick glance and see she genuinely just looks so sad to have disappointed you that you can't bring yourself to stay angry. Irritation now softened, you just repeat what you said earlier, "Never go near an unmarked van, 'kay? They're just not safe." You hoped she wouldn't ask why, as you weren't sure you cared to explain just what sort of horrible things you'd seen them be used for in the past.
She didn't. Mantis simply nods and the rest of the short walk back was silent. You considered texting Maria about the van so they could look into it just in case, but if it turned out to be nothing or wasn't even actually 'unmarked' (since you only saw the back half of one side) you didn't want the fallback, so you didn't.
When the two of you reached Peter and Kraglin you suggested that you all head back to the pizza shop to wait. They got the hint that you needed to cool down a little and so didn't speak much on the way back. Even Mantis restrained herself from her former excited antics, walking quietly beside Peter with her head down, and honestly you were starting to feel bad for yelling at her. Yes, she needed to be more careful, but she was just excited.
The pizzas were ready pretty much as soon as you walked through the door, and after paying you and walking to the car you asked Mantis if she wanted to be charged with the task of holding the pizzas on the way home. She seemed to perk up a bit at having been given a job, and you cracked at smile when she remarked how warm they were in her lap.
Mantis was less excited on the way home, and at first you thought she was still sad, but a glance backward made you smile when you realized the reason for her silence was that she had fallen asleep.
You guessed the heat from the pizza boxes combined with the rain that was now coming down around you, was just cozy enough to put her to sleep.
The rain had mostly let up by the time you got home and after Peter woke Mantis and brought the pizza's inside, you placed the pizzas in the oven to heat them back up a bit before eating, as the ride from town to home wasn't exactly short.
While you waited you presented Yondu with the lactose intolerance medicine.
"What's this?" he asked, looking at the bottle.
"It's something to keep you from shitting yourself to death after eating dinner," you reply cheekily.
Yondu narrowed his eyes at you.
"It's up to you though. You can always find something else to eat if you don't trust it."
He could smell the food, and it actually smelled pretty good. He also didn't feel like making something else for himself if there was already food made, so he shrugged his shoulders and took a dose. "This better work," he said, washing it down with some water.
"Yeah, for all our sakes," Peter quipped from behind the two of you, earning a glare from Yondu before exiting the kitchen with Kraglin and Mantis to tell the others you guys brought food back.
Now that it was just the two of you, you thought to ask, "Um, if it does work, I don't suppose this will count towards whatever favor I owe you?"
Yondu just laughed and shook his head before leaving the kitchen.
"I guess I should have expected that..." you say after him in response, slightly cringing at how obvious you were making it that you were nervous about what he might ask for in return for his 'services.' You weren't used to owing other people. It felt weird.
* * *
Dinner went pretty well.
Everyone enjoyed the pizza, even Yondu who'd made the previous complaint that 'Terrans put that 'dairy shit' in everything.' And surprisingly to you, Mantis actually didn't wind up pulling the pineapple or sweet corn off her pizza. Neither did Kraglin, who also had some of that half of the pie. More power to them, you supposed.
On the flip side, unsurprisingly Groot didn't eat much, considering his tiny size. He mostly picked the toppings off one of Rocket's slices. Or was it his own slice? You couldn't tell. All you knew was Rocket put two slices on one plate and sat Groot down with him on the countertop where Groot ate the toppings off the slice Rocket left on the plate and Rocket finished off the slice when Groot had his fill of the toppings.
Also, luckily for everyone, the lactose intolerance medicine worked for Yondu. Well, mostly.
You all weren't run out of the house like the previous incidents, but every so often throughout the evening as you were winding down in your room you could hear Kraglin loudly complaining and Yondu laughing from their bedroom across the hall, each time preceded by fart noises. You couldn't help but laugh and be grateful that the smell didn't waft over to your side of the hall, and that your door was also closed if it did.
Mantis was holding back giggles as well when Kraglin could be heard proclaiming that he was gonna go sleep in Drax and Rocket's room after the third or fourth time. Yondu was only heard laughing in response and making some quip about having the room to himself.
The two of you shared a look and you could tell she no longer thought you were mad at her for running off earlier, and you were glad. It made you feel better knowing she was no longer sad about the situation, but you still took the time then to apologize for yelling at her, and in turn she apologized for running off so many times.
All in all, the day seemed like a success to you. Nothing truly bad happened in town, no one argued at dinner, and you sprayed the house down with the spider repellent that evening so it was very unlikely you'd be finding anymore spiders in your bed anytime soon.
Speaking of spraying the repellent, it seemed Gamora had either convinced the others to tidy up around the house while you were gone, or she had done so herself as perhaps a thank you for agreeing to take Peter into town to give her some space, because you noticed the house definitely seemed cleaner than you left it as you went about spraying in the corners and windows with the repellent. You made a mental note to thank her in the morning.
You were in a pretty good mood, all things considered. Much better than the other day when you nearly punched Yondu in the face.
And with the house already seemingly cleaned, the only thing really left to do was to think about what you wanted to do tomorrow, but now that you thought about it, there wasn't really anything pressing that needed done. You could maybe try and take some time to do an inspection of that tunnel like you had been meaning to? Or you could just take a day to just do nothing? Spend the day outside, taking a walk through the woods while you can before the weather really starts getting colder?
Oh wait- Fury should be coming tomorrow for another check-in and restock. Guess that means both a day-long walk or tunnel inspection are out of the question. You should really be around and available when he shows up- whatever time that could wind up being. One of these times he's probably going to come at midnight just to keep you on your toes.
Although, thinking about it some more, it has been a few days since you played the remote prank on Peter... that should be able to keep you plenty entertained while you wait for Fury and Maria to come and go.
You should see about getting the remote back from Rocket tomorrow.

More Than a Mission - Chapter 1
"Alright, so it's easy," Rocket explained to the team. "Bangdat has this really old rock in the castle's private armory. It's got this metal called pnervonium in it. We get that, we make our big ass gun. We make our big ass gun, we can kill Geraldamine and free the Republic of Fendir. Make sense?"
The Guardians all nodded and hummed in affirmation, so Rocket continued.
"Adam, you get to be the star of our show here."
"B-But why me?" Adam had been continuing to learn and grow as he spent more time with the team. He was confident in his abilities as a fighter, and he knew he was intelligent, but he also now knew he wasn't a perfect being and that there was plenty more to learn. He wasn't sure that he would be the right one for this job. He could admit that his socials skills might've been...underdeveloped.
"Well, kid, you have class. Quill and I are assholes, Drax is an idiot 97% of the time, Mantis comes on a bit too strong, Groot isn't exactly the most desirable suitor, and Gamora and Nebula quite frankly have enough issues to deal with already. You're our only hope," Rocket explained. Adam hesitated before nodding his agreement and waiting for Rocket to further explain his role.
"You've gotta woo the princess."
"Woo the princess?"
"Woo the princess."
"What does that mean?"
"It means you go in, kill her parents, and tell her just how much she turns you on before you make love to her for 24 hours straight," Drax deadpanned.
"What the hell? No! Jesus, don't do that Adam!" Quill practically shouted. Adam was still trying to process half of what Drax had said, but knew better than to try. "You've got to be kind and polite. Get to know her, know her values. Impress her and her alive parents."
"Oh, okay, so I become friends with her?" Adam asked, trying to clarify his instructions.
"Well, sorta. You become really, really good friends with her. You've gotta get her to fall in love with you. Or at least get her to like you enough to let you down into the armory and you tell us the best way to get in. Once everyone's asleep, we sneak in, steal the stupid rock, take you, and get the hell off that planet," Rocket said.
Adam, still slightly confused, nodded. He could figure it out along the way.
"Good, cause we already sent the King and Queen notice of a new suitor coming their way."
xxxxxxxxxxxx
Adam enjoyed his walk to the palace despite the frigid temperatures. Everything seemed peaceful in a way. Waterfalls and rivers were still running free, and plants he had never seen before were in bloom. The snow fell softly, and he heard it crunch under his boots as he approached the guards. Instead of stopping him, they bowed to him and let him pass. Rocket's message must've been pretty convincing.
He took in the architecture around him. It was beautiful, like something he'd seen in a storybook Mantis had found for him from another planet. The walls were pale blue and looked almost as if they'd been made from ice. The paintings in the ceiling told stories of brave knights and beautiful queens, all surrounded by metal that was so intricate, so delicate. Adam couldn't help but wonder what the King and Queen of Bangdat would be like. More importantly, what would the Princess be like?
On the trip to Bangdat, Quill had told him plenty of "fairytales" from Earth for educational purposes. Ones of Princesses being poisoned, cursed, and trapped. This princess, as far as he could tell, was not anything like that. Adam found himself longing for the "happily ever after" that repeated itself in Quill's tales. He knew it was just a mission, but what if it was something more?
Would his princess be warm, friendly, and kind? Would he protect her and keep her safe from the beasts of the universe? Would she read with him at night in front of a fireplace, calm and content?
Adam was lost in his thoughts, but as he approached more guards on his way to the throne room, he collected himself.
As he entered, a guard made an announcement.
"His Royal Highness, Adam, the Warlock of the Sovereign!"
He kneeled before the King and Queen, head down as a sigh of respect.
"You may stand, young prince," the King said. He and his wife were old, both wrinkled and with a white-grey hair that seemed silver in the light of the palace. "You think yourself to be a suitor worthy of the Princess of Bangdat?" he queried.
"I do, your Majesty," Adam confirmed confidently, just like Rocket told him.
"Then let you have one week with her, and then we shall see if she deems you worthy. Daughter?" The King called for the Princess.
And when she entered the throne room, Adam felt as if he saw the universe standing before him. The Princess of Bangdat was more beautiful than any creature he had ever laid eyes upon. Her eyes seemed to glow, and her dress complimented her shape and complexion.
The only problem was, she glared down at Adam.
"Let there be a ball in celebration of my daughter and her suitor tomorrow evening!" The King announced.
Adam grew worried. He had a week to get her to love him, and a day to make her comfortable enough to dance with him.
He would try his best.

I want to make an angsty ROTTMNT fanfic where it takes parts of the show seriously.
But not like a usual post-movie fic where the brothers express (or don’t) their trauma, or in general a fic putting the boys in whumpy situations.
No, I want to talk about Jupiter Jim fans being horrified when they see the reports about the people their favourite actor kidnapped and trapped in a twisted museum for who knows how long, and who only escaped thanks to the turtles. Fans feeling that crushing despair over finding out that your idol / parasocial father figure did something horrible, something that is surely a major crime.
I want to talk about Repo Mantis and his cat, his beloved pet that is the only soft spot he allows himself to have in his tough-as-nails line of work. The only living thing he can’t ignore the suffering of when money’s involved. Having to lock her in a cage because she got mutated (and in an indirect way, because of him) and now wants to eat him. Imagine that? Your pet suddenly turning into a monster and there’s nothing you can do about it except keep them away. Maybe even, him in an alternate universe deciding to get the cure (and revenge) from Draxum, knowing he doesn’t stand a chance against that Warring Warrior Scientist with no gifted powers and not even any hands.
I want to talk about Meat Sweats running away from the video station, from the crazy hog people who tried to eat him (and up until now he could ignore that he was in fact food in a way, he could ignore his mutation when he cooked pork for himself alone) who he only escaped from because his monstrous form could overpower the group. Thinking about how he had almost managed to get his life back, but ended up reliving the worst night in his life by being transformed live on stage after he’d almost convinced the audience everything was fine. Maybe, him finding Warren Stone, and the two of them have a conversation about the specific sucky situation of being famous but having everything (your source of income, the love of your fans, even your body) ripped away from you thanks to five teenagers and their associates. You know, there’s another person who could relate to that... except he knows and acknowledges who was really to blame for the rampant oozing, and has more love in his heart than hate.
I doubt anyone would read these, but they sit irremovable in my head like Splinter watching Scorpion Treadmill, and I wanted to share at least the idea with some of you. I can’t be the only one who obsesses about minor characters and non-lore episodes in this show in this way.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Nice
Fandom: Guardians of the Galaxy
Character(s): Rocket, Peter Quill/Star Lord, Mantis, Drax, Nebula, Groot
A/N: I'M BACK. BACK IN THE NEW YORK GROOVE~~
No but seriously how the fuck is everyone!?!?
I am revisiting my Guardians phase and I couldn't be more happy to be here.
I will say very MINOR spoilers for Vol. 3, and this is supposed to take place after all those events transpired.
This was what I came up with from this anon's ask and I greatly appreciate you sending this in. Not so much tickling in this one, and it's definitely fluffy and sweet, so I still hope you enjoy!
It's been tumultuous. It's been frustrating. It's been hell at times, too.
But then Drax would sit next to him on the grated metal floor of the ship as he tinkered with something new, something helpful. It wouldn't take much. Just having Drax sitting with his too-big legs trying to criss-cross themselves, crunching on a zargnut or some other snack... hell, it should've annoyed the piss outta him. The stupid chewing noises, hearing his breath when he leaned in to get as close as possible with his face so his Kylosian eyes could see the intricacies of whatever was in Rocket's little pawed hands. It didn't annoy him, actually. No. The dummy was actually helping him immensely with his presence. And they wouldn't even need to talk. As long as Drax was near, sometimes scooting close enough that his knee rested in the crook of Rocket's side. That was nice...
Then the hell feelings would surface again, grumbles under his breath as the thoughts bubbled up.
And it would be Groot coming closer after keeping watch on Rocket for a short while, knowing just the time when he needed to step in. And usually when he waited long enough, Groot was itching to be playful. He was a whole lot bigger now. Bigger than he was before the Ronan incident. So his attempts at going for the chase were met with a gruff chuckle and grin from the raccoon almost instantly. Groot's big dumb tree trunks stomping around... it was humorous. And of course Rocket would try and hold out, or else what fun was there in the game? He'd slooowly walk in a circle with his friend, then scamper around when Groot happily hopped up and down from the excitement of the playing. Groot would extend his fingers, morphing them into thin, pliable branches and scratch and poke at Rocket when he could catch him. Eventually, though he'd never admit it if asked, Rocket would "let" himself get caught and Groot would scoop him up into his arms and it just felt nice.
Rocket would be stopped in his tracks, too, when he felt his heart tittering. Like it was fluttering a bit too extra at times, making his breathing difficult. This was a new development after being medpack'd back to life. Not life threatening, they debunked that theory early on. It was just a nuisance. But the limited ability to intake oxygen would sometimes send Rocket whirling again, back in time, back to the terrors...
And a boisterous laugh from down the hall and to the right, to Quill's personal area (though it's become less personal over the time his new family spent there and infiltrated the space. Rocket preferred it like it was now...). There Rocket would catch a glimpse of Peter and Mantis, sitting together, Mantis laughing at something. It was hard to tell with her. Most things that amused her amused Drax, so one could guess it'd be a stupid ass cause. Rocket's ears and nose would twitch, even his lips where a small smile was playing. Even though he thought he was out of sight, eavesdropping on the sibling to sibling moment, Peter would catch him standing there and beckon him over. And Rocket would go and sit between the two, heart murmur forgotten. Just smiles. And yeah yeah, shut your face, Rocket did sit between them on purpose, so he'd have comfort on either side. Moments like these were nice, too, man...
"Rocket."
With a few extra blinks, the raccoon was back in the present. Reminiscing became a very real hobby as of late, after the rescue, after the reunification. He'd go to these places easily, slipping away without any thought for what was happening around him here and now. But that was Pete saying his name, he knew that much.
"Wha?"
"You wanted a shot, too?"
Rocket looked down his snout at the array of rainbow liquids before him. He glanced over at Nebula, arms crossed. She looked sober. He gestured his head towards the spread, "You have any?"
"I was waiting for you."
Rocket smirked, "Fire me up one, barkeep," he slammed his little hand on the control table, their meetup/planning place that was now used to house the libations for their little party.
"Don't know if that's correct lingo, but let's go with it," Peter teased but poured shots for Nebula and Rocket.
And together, the group drank and the night began.
This was gonna be fun drunk. Not sad drunk. Lord knows Rocket couldn't stand sad drunk anymore, especially after watching Peter deteriorate after Gamora 1.
Come to find out, fun drunk brought out a very different side of Rocket.
The first sign most noticeable to everyone was the giggles. They were all highly familiar with Rocket's many fake laughs, loud laughs, derisive laughs... the whole gambit. If they were chatting and joking, Rocket would lose himself in a stream of giggles, higher and more innocent than anything the family was used to. But it was contagious, considering the rest of them were also quite tipsy.
While the whole troupe picked up on that, Nebula was the first one to notice all the touching. Not being one for affection, the only touching she'd bestow or want to have would consist of pushing or punching. But Rocket was sidling up to everyone at any chance he had.
When he was sitting on a bench next to Peter as they were listening to Drax try to tell some outlandish, very-serious-not-funny-at-all story, Rocket would be nearly passing out from wheezing at trying to hold back all the laughs he had bubbling up from Drax's horrible speech, and he'd be nuzzling and pressing his head all into Peter's arm and side. The Terran would be in the same state, rosy-cheeked and littered with repressed snorts and giggles. The two of them together were not a good mix for trying to keep straight faces. Finally, Drax picked up on the boys' restraint and Peter lost it, sliding down in his seat, nearly falling completely off the bench. And Rocket was practically laying in Peter's lap, now also in hysterics.
Nebula was pouring herself another drink and Rocket stumbled up to her, pressing his hand against her knee, "Hey."
"What?"
"Hey--pfft," Rocket was snickering again.
Nebula rolled her eyes but paused her drink selection to look down at Rocket, who was now feeling the fabric of her pant leg with both paws. See? Again, the touching.
"Rocket, if this is something idiotic--"
"I'snot! No no no, it's not. Promise," even through slurred words, Nebula had to admit she was intrigued.
"Then what? Did you want a drink?"
"Nnno-- well wait yeah, actually, if you wouldn't mind-- But no! So! They were askin'--" he lifted one of his hands off her leg to gesture in the vague direction of the rest of the group, huddled up together with all their eyes on Nebula and Rocket, waiting for the ball to drop. Idiots.
"Are you--? Do ya think you're ticklish?" Rocket asked finally, another one of those light giggles slipping out.
Nebula glanced over at the group with one of her death stares, and they all tried to feign innocence.
"Do I look like I'm ticklish?"
Rocket now lifted both hands off her and used them to shrug, "I dunno, I was just askin'..."
"You can tell them no. And not to try or I'll strap them with Nova Core-strength batteries and feed them to Mantis's Abilisks."
Rocket scoffed, starting to walk away slowly, "Geeheez, alright... No need to be so 'Nebula' 'bout it. I don't mind it, so I guess I just don't get why you're bein' so defensivitious..."
And there he was making new words up again. But Nebula didn't let go of the one very important tidbit slurred in the middle of the nonsense ramble. He didn't mind it.
More of the night passed and they were nearing the sloppy, lovey dovey drunk phase of the night.
"I love you guys," Mantis was the one with the turn to spew her love speech. They found out Mantis had a hard time getting drunk, so throughout the night Drax and Peter would let her touch them so she could feel a little of what they were feeling, "Like... I'm just a worm..." uh oh, "A little teeny--bitsy worm and you all made me bloom."
"You're nohohot a worm, Mant," Rocket chuckled, laying down with his head in Drax's lap and his feet propped up on Nebula's.
"I thought you were a larvae," Drax pointed out.
"Was," Mantis corrected, her antennae drooping with the brief recollection of Ego, "But now I'm a butterfly!" she even waved her arms in the air to prove her point.
"Wouldn't you just be... a mantis? A praying mantis?" Peter now inquired, scrunching his face like this took a whole lot of energy.
"A what?" Mantis asked.
"Forget it.." Peter didn't want Mantis to have an existential crisis over whether or not she was a butterfly. So for tonight, yes, she was a beautiful butterfly.
"I love you losers, too," Rocket took his turn, his eyes closed and his words honestly barely audible since it looked like he was getting drunker and sleepier by the second, "I love you for all you do for me. For this."
By 'this,' everyone assumed the party.
Rocket rolled over on his side and his tail flicked, "For... you know... whenever you... like you pet me. Or just take care of me..."
The room was quiet, save for Peter's music playing on low volume through the ship's speakers. All eyes were on Rocket.
"I thought you hated being pet," Pete pointed out, a moment of sobriety coming through.
Rocket blinked his eyes back open as if he was again being brought back to the present. What did he say? He liked being pet?
"Well yeah..." the raccoon sat up now, removing his body parts from Drax and Nebula, like he was now becoming aware that he was laying on them at all.
"But that's not what you said just now," Mantis said.
"No. No, I-I--"
"I've pet you before. When you were sad," Drax said next, "It was natural to do, since you are built for petting."
"Okay--"
"I am Groot."
"What!?" everyone in the room exclaimed in unison.
If Rocket was human, he'd be beet red by now. He tried running away from the situation, literally. But Nebula grabbed his arm, not in a rude or demeaning way. Her touch was gentle. Shit, just what he needed right now, more gentle touch...
"You like when we're... affectionate," it was even hard for her to get the word out.
"Everyone likes hugs and nuzzles--" Mantis threw in, ready to list a whole bunch of things when Nebula cut her off.
"... and tickles," she was sporting another oddity: a kind smile.
"Groot..." Rocket growled, eyeing his friend for outing him like that. He wanted to crawl into the evac chamber and be shot into space.
"He didn't have to say it," Nebula pointed out to save Groot some heartache, "You told me earlier."
"I think I'm gonna go to bed now," Rocket tried to get his arm free, "And for the record, I'm drunk. I never heard any of this."
"Rocket," Peter began, "You know that if we knew you liked all that stuff, we'd do it more."
"Please stop talking.."
"Don't be embarrassed," Mantis pouted.
"I think there could be far worse things to be embarrassed about," Drax added, "Even though I don't quite know what that means."
"We love you for who you are," Peter even stood up from his seat and walked closer to where Rocket was still being held by Nebula's hand, "So stop thinking you're inconveniencing us or-or that you don't care..."
"It's a privilege to make you happy, Rocket," Nebula said, her voice soft.
Rocket stood still, with Pete now kneeling to be more at eye-level with him and Nebula holding his wrist. His brown eyes glanced around at his friends-- scratch that, his family. What a stupid way to have this conversation. A bunch of drunk idiots confessing their love.
"I 'ppreciate it, fellas..." Rocket spoke. He nodded his head, making sure to have eye contact with everyone there to know he loved them back, even though this turned very awkward.
When Rocket felt Nebula let go of him and he figured he was finally allowed to leave, Peter surprised him by grabbing him in a hug and holding him close. Rocket sighed and patted Pete's shoulder, not so much reciprocating the hug because he just felt weird about it all now. But it was nice-- oh fuck, here we go...
Drax carefully pet the top of his head between his ears, and they twitched and sank to give away their enjoyment of the act. Nebula extended her metal arm and scratched under Rocket's chin, grinning. Rocket huffed and moved his head, but damn that also felt good... and Pete still didn't let go of him... So Mantis came over and practically threw herself on top of him and Peter so she could join in the hug. Rocket heard Pete chuckle and felt the rumble in his chest since he was that close to his friend.
Lastly Groot joined in, wrapping his growing branches and limbs around the whole group sitting there in a huddle.
"Bunch of idiots..." Rocket said with heavy sentiment. He succumbed to the hugs and pets and scritches because dammit he really frickin' liked it all.
Rocket felt some prodding into his sides and he snickered into Pete's shoulder, "Groohoot..." he warned, knowing the familiar feeling too well.
"What'd he do?" Peter asked.
Again, Rocket felt the prods and new light scratches. His small body shook with unlaughed laughs. He recognized the tone in Pete's voice and knew it wasn't Groot poking at him. So he had to defend himself. Rocket's claws dug into the expanse of flesh that was Peter's ribs and the whole hug pile disintegrated as Peter screamed and cackled and writhed his way out of there.
"I am Groot!"
"Damn right I can dish it out, too!" Rocket grinned.
What soon tumbled into a massive tickle fight ended with Rocket in near tears of mirth, all his family and friends gently messing with little parts of him.
This was a new one to go into that memory bank of his.
A real, genuine nice moment.

Cardigan - Peter Quill
Warning this contains GOTG VOL3 spoilers!!!
This may contain vague mentions of trauma and Ptsd
Summary: Peter wants to go back to Earth and even though you left Earth to escape the shit you went through, you decide to go back to be with Peter.
inspired by Taylor Swift, I recommend listening to the song while reading
...
The melody of your favourite song started playing you listened to this song because it reminded you of Peter.
Peter grabbed your waist as you automatically started to slow dance he was moving slowly with the rhythm of the song.
Sequin smile, black lipstick
Sensual politics
When you are young, they assume you know nothing
"I'm going to miss you" Peter broke the silence he twirled you smoothly
"Im coming with you."
yes, you hated Earth the moment you got to leave with Thor to help in some issues with Loki you never came back and when you were done with your job you joined the guardians.
And when I felt like I was an old cardigan
Under someone's bed
You put me on and said I was your favourite
"No, you do not. you stay here and help Rocket I know the shit you've been through there and I'll be damned if you go back for me." His tone was stern but he kept the rhythm
And when I felt like I was an old cardigan
Under someone's bed
You put me on and said I was your favourite
"Peter, I love you, I don't think I've ever loved someone this much before, please I've lived all my life being unloved by everyone around me I'm coming with you not for you for me because I need you." his eyes gave up the fight he loved you too much to let you feel hurting again.
To kiss in cars and downtown bars
Was all we needed
You drew stars around my scars
But now I'm bleedin'
"But promise me you will leave the moment you hate it there."
"I promise. but don't ever do what you did to me on Sakaar."
he held your back and lend you back causing you to lift your leg
I knew you
Tried to change the ending
Peter losing Wendy, I
I knew you
Leavin' like a father
Running like water
Peter broke up with you on Sakaar because it was getting too dangerous and he wanted you to stay out of it and go back to Asgard where it was safe. he thought wrong though you came and fought. Until the stone was safe. you left. You guys never saw each other until Thanos.
Earth was never your home but you were always thankful for Thor having open arms and welcoming you back to Asgard When you and Peter separated.
"I love you," you whispered
"I love you the most."

Everything Jaro Tapal Dies not Knowing
Jaro Tapal dies on the day of the purge. He does not know why the clones have suddenly turned on him and Cal, and he never will. He only knows that something terrible has happened, but he will never learn the true scope of this event. How this will shape the future of the Jedi.
He dies in an escape pod with his scared and confused padawan. His padawan who is just a little boy, barely twelve years old and terrified beyond his mind. His padawan who is being so brave in the face of such terror.
Jaro Tapal dies before their escape pod even enters Bracca’s atmosphere.
[Or; Jaro Tapal dies not knowing a lot of things, but most importantly: He dies not knowing the Jedi Order has been destroyed and that there will be no one to take care of Cal when he is gone.]

ALRIGHT. So it finally happened. I saw the movie. I saw GOTG Vol. 3. Truthfully, it was a classic James Gunn movie - I loved it. This movie was everything I hoped it would be. I laughed, I cried, I LOVED the special appearances, and easter eggs. The scene where Peter goes back to Missouri to visit his grandpa had me in TEARS. I really appreciated all the nods to Yondu. If I'm honest, I noticed a lot of parallels between brief moments in the script and some details in various fics that I've read. I'm almost convinced Gunn has read some fics. What do you guys think???

Say You Love Me
Peter Quill x Fem!Reader
A/N: Hey all, feedback is much appreciated. I wrote this while listening to Say You Love Me by Fleetwood Mac.
Warnings: Light swearing, kinda suggestive but mostly fluff.
Word Count: 2.4k
Send me any requests you have!!
Peter looks himself over in the mirror of the cramped ship bathroom, lifting his shirt to assess the damage from his latest escapade. He ran his hand over the substantial red and purple mark that splayed across his lower left ribs, wincing at the sting of his own touch.
It wasn’t like him to take damage during these missions, but his mind had been wandering when a large mammal-like creature had trampled into his middle, knocking the wind straight out of him as he fell into the hard dirt. He had been able to pull himself together in time to take the creature out before it could do more damage. Rocket had made some comment, “Get your head out of your ass Quill,” or something similar, earning a glare from Peter. He decided not to snap back at Rocket this time. He didn’t care. His sole focus was to finish this mission, get the hell out of here, and get back to Knowhere.
He pulled down his shirt, smoothing it over the bruised area. He gave himself one last once-over and ran his fingers through his hair, lost in thought.
The first time he saw her was about a year ago. The Guardians had been celebrating a victory at their usual dive on Knowhere when she walked in with a small group of what looked to be junkers. As Drax told a story about a battle long before he joined the Guardians, Peter couldn’t help but steal glances at her, occasionally nodding to make sure Drax thought he was really listening.
After ordering at the bar she had found her way to the dance floor, drink in hand. She laughed and smiled widely while she danced to every song. She was beautiful, there was no question about it. But most of all, she looked like she was having fun.  The kind of fun he wanted to have with someone again. As he watched her dance, a few songs passed and Peter couldn’t help himself any longer. He stood up –Drax giving him an inquisitive look as he wasn’t finished with his story– and walked over to the dance floor, squeezing past a few drunken dancers as he made his way to her.
He grabbed her hand and spun her around and without hesitation, she continued dancing with him. They danced for a few songs before a word was said between them.
“I’m Peter,” He shouted over the loud music.
“Y/N,” She said with a smile, reaching out her hand. Instead of shaking it, he took the opportunity to twirl her around again. She giggled as she spun around, the sweet sound of her laugh making Peter’s heart skip just a little bit.
They danced for two more songs until she took his hand and led him to the bar. They ordered drinks and talked for what felt like forever. He learned that she was from Terra, but found out a few years ago that her Great-Grandfather had been from Xandar. Earth never felt like quite enough, so she used it as an excuse to take to the stars to find something more. She linked up with a group of junkers a few months prior to meeting Peter.
He contemplated how much about himself he should tell her. He didn’t want to scare her away by divulging too much about the past few years. Talking about losing Gamora may be too heavy a topic for the first time he’s put himself out there in so long. He decided to omit that detail for now, instead telling her about how he was picked up and raised by ravagers when he was a kid. Her eyes told him that she was intently listening as he spoke, her hips still swaying ever-so-slightly to the music in the background. He didn’t know her well, but what he did know is that it had been so long since he’d felt this way when talking to someone.
They ordered drink after drink, talking about the coolest places they’d seen in the galaxy, the best spots on each of the major planets to grab a drink, and their favorite songs to listen to while cruising through space.
Peter took her back to his place that night. The memory of how they ended up there was hazy from all of the drinking. But what wasn’t hazy was how her skin felt against his, and the way she looked when she was breathing heavily, her head tilted back in a pleasurable daze. He wished he could put that night on repeat, living it over and over and over again. He tried to tell himself that this would be like every other one night stand he’d had before, but he couldn’t deny that he hoped she would still be there in the morning.
He awoke, tangled up in the sheets, a headache creeping behind his eyes from the few too many drinks he’d had the night before.
She was gone.
He laid back and stared at the ceiling, weighing his disappointment. He knew better to expect more than just a night of fun. Usually he was the one to leave when the sun started to rise. But this just felt different. He got up, trying to shake off his discontent, continuing on with this day like any other, except for the occasional thought of y/n that crossed his mind.
Weeks passed, and he did his best to keep himself busy. Ship upgrades, small solo missions, anything to keep himself distracted. He had heard the whispers from the other Guardians–Rocket commenting on his uncharacteristically quiet demeanor, Drax wondering why he had been overly productive lately. He had visited that dive bar every so often, hoping she would be there again, but to no avail. Mantis could sense Peter’s disappointment every time he returned.
Six weeks had gone by since their night together. At this point his expectations were low. He sauntered up to the bar to order his usual when someone leaned against the bar next to him.
“Come here often?” y/n said with a smirk. Peter’s eyes widened.
“As a matter of fact, I do.” He replied, a shit-eating grin on his face.
The night was nearly a carbon copy of their last night together. They talked, danced, and laughed together for hours, eventually ending up in Peter’s bed again. But this time, he couldn't doze off to sleep. He laid on his back, his fingers in her hair as she slept with her head on his chest. As the sun crept up he felt her stir so he pretended to be asleep as well. She rose from the bed quietly and began to collect her clothes from the floor.
“Wait,” Peter said before she could reach the door. She turned around and looked at him. Her hair was a tangle of curls, her make-up smeared from sex and sleep, but somehow she still looked exquisite. “I want to see you again.” He mustered, unable to think of anything more clever at that moment.
“You will.” She smiled, and then she was gone.
Peter still had no way of contacting her or knowing when she would be back. But somehow he knew that she was telling the truth.
Every day got a little easier because every day was closer to when he would see her again. He would go back to that bar every few nights, laughing and sharing stories with the Guardians, patiently awaiting y/n’s return.
And she did come back. Again, and again, and a few more times. He was under her spell. He lived for the next moment that he’d see her. It was the first time he’d been truly whole again since losing Gamora. Eventually their routine changed and she would stay the night every so often. They would see each other in the daylight, sometimes working on a project together, taking the ship for a joyride, or walking through the streets of Knowhere. One thing that never changed, though, was that she would always leave Peter guessing when she would be able to return.
Months passed, and Peter was almost content. He loved spending time with y/n. He loved everything about her. But he just wished she would stay. He had brought it up a few times, but she always responded with a lighthearted: “I have a galaxy to explore, Peter.” Each time making his heart ache just a little more.
His upbeat mood started to turn slightly more solemn after each of the last three times he saw her. He day dreamed about the life he wanted with her, causing him to be dazed at the very worst moments. He narrowly avoided an asteroid the time he was thinking about the way her small frame looked in one of his big t-shirts while he was piloting the ship. On a mission to retrieve a stolen necklace for some royal on another planet, it slipped out of his hand as he thought of the way it would look resting on her delicate collar bones, almost costing them the job, had Groot not been able to catch it. And this time, as he looked up at the stars and imagined being able to go to sleep next to her every night– he was ambushed by some big ugly creature.
That was the last straw for him. He couldn’t take the pain of seeing her leave anymore.
He made his way to the bar, knowing the last trip she had been on had come to an end yesterday. She should be there. He took a seat at the bar and ordered his usual, his foot tapping nervously as he dreaded what he had to do next.
She walked into the bar, a grin plastered across her face the second she saw Peter. She walked up to him and placed a loving kiss on his lips, but pulled away when she saw the expression on his face.
“What’s going on, babe?” She asked, her brows furrowed. Peter froze. He had gone over this exact moment again and again in his head, but couldn’t come up with the words now that it was actually happening.
“Let’s go look at the stars,” He said, forcing himself to smile. Peter took her hand and led her outside. They sat on a nearby bench and he looked up at the sky. y/n looked at him with a concerned expression. Peter took a deep breath.
“I love you, y/n, but I’m not strong enough to watch you leave again.” His eyes threatened tears that he held back. He looked at the ground for a moment, and then at her. “I can’t ask you to leave the life you love and stay here with me instead. So I have to ask you to stay away.” He looked away, trying to hide the few stray tears that he couldn’t control. He was overwhelmed with emotion. He didn’t want it to end this way, or at all. But to ask her for the life he dreamed of would be selfish, and to keep things unchanged would continue to wear on his heart.
They sat in silence for longer than comfortable. He looked over at her. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes close to tears. She gave a small, forced smile and said “I love you too, Peter.” She kissed his cheek, stood up and walked off into the night. She was gone again.
When she was out of ear shot, Peter let out a quiet fuck under his breath and let the tears come. He had finally felt whole after losing the woman he loved, and now he had to actively choose to let another slip through his fingers.
Rocket walked out of the bar, noticing the state Peter was in. He walked over and hopped up onto the bench next to him. Neither of them said a word, but Peter felt Rocket’s hand rest on his shoulder.
In the following weeks, Peter got back to distracting himself. Taking on every single mission he could, no matter the danger. He was quiet and cold to the other Guardians, rarely leaving his quarters without a purpose.
The Guardians were preparing for a longer trip than usual this time, and Peter was going over plans for how to get around a particularly challenging field of small, island-like planets. Nebula was organizing provisions with Drax ‘supervising her,’ stealing snacks when she turned away. Mantis and Groot were taking inventory in the cargo hold.
As Peter focused on the plans in front of him, he heard the soft sound of Rocket’s paws enter the room. He didn’t look up.
“So uh, Quill..” He started. Before he could finish, Peter heard another set of footsteps approaching, and the sound of an overstuffed duffle bag hit the ground. He raised his head, puzzled.
“y/n,” He squeaked, standing up.
“Yeah uh… I’ll give you two a minute.” Rocket said, backing out of the room.
Why is she here? He thought. He was happy to see her, but dreaded the inevitable sting of her having to leave again. He couldn’t speak.
“I’m not leaving again.” She said, as if she could read Peter’s mind. He walked towards her slowly, as if she would run away if he moved too fast. He still said nothing. “I didn’t know what to say that night. I thought you were right. I couldn’t just leave everything. I love exploring and adventuring and seeing as much of the universe as I can. And I thought I could walk away and let you be happy without me.” She stepped closer. “But all I could think about was how much I’d rather be doing all of those things with you. I came back a couple weeks ago and I met with Rocket. He told me how much you were hurting, and he asked me if I’d want to try out going on all those adventures with you guys instead of those lame old junkers.”
Peter embraced her tightly, never wanting to let her go again. He could see Rocket down the hall crossing his arms with a grin.
“Let’s go get you unpacked.” He said to y/n, grabbing her hand and leading her to his… their quarters.
