there's something about the way buck opens the door to let tommy in and then immediately goes into the kitchen under the guise of getting a beer when what he actually does (consciously or not) is using the kitchen island as a barrier between him and tommy. because he doesn't know why tommy is there but he has, as far as he knows, already been rejected by him several times so he wants to protect himself from that happening again. but then tommy tells him that there's no way he can ever replace buck's place in eddie's or christopher's lives and what does buck do? he almost immediately relaxes and moves away from behind the kitchen island and into the same space as tommy, open and curious, inching closer and closer with every word they exchange because this clearly isn't a rejection and tommy is giving buck his full attention and buck can't help himself from giving into that gravitational pull nor does he want to
