I just know, I feel it in my bones, that hunter's favorite ice cream flavor is either 1: also the first ice cream flavor he'd ever had, because it's not worth not having it to try another, or 2: French vanilla

I hate that them showing us Belos's whereabouts in TTT was like some slowly unfolding horror documentary:
Hey kids, wanna see how the goop works after The Collector smashed Philip to bits??
Wow lookie here, a deer skeleton. Why is the goop on it, why is the goop trailing off it, why did the little kid say a deer wasn't a deer
My my, the camera is panning to the right and following a trail of more animal skeletons! Very not-alive skeletons
Hold up, this one is....alive?? No wait, it looks undead? Why is it glowing...is it gonna end up like the skeletons before it..does everything the goop touches just..waste away and die??
Hey, what if the phenomenon we just witnessed...happened to someone who doesn't run on four legs
*Hunter's happy chirpy tone of voice after he's had a first good cry* "Everything is okay. Belos is gone."
Oopsie, you thought --
(our brains, collectively: "what does this all mean???")
*big symphony of us screaming*
And like. It left him lifeless. It was so horrible

y'know what's another interesting yet horrifying thing i've noticed about Belos.
in almost every scene he has with Luz, on top of doing everything he can to overpower her emotionally and mentally...
He also always make sure to somehow overpower her physically as well. And always directly with his own hands (metaphorically and literally), when he certainly knows a combination of glyphs that could do the job of restraining Luz just as well. But no. It's always hands, something bodily.
Even in his child disguise, he either pulls Luz down under the excuse of cowering behind her, or directly grabs her in a way that now in retrospect looks downright aggressive and forceful instead of innocently blunt.
And on top of that, he's visibly satisfied when he believes he finally forced Luz to submit and listen to him after he starts petrifying her.
Even at his lowest, reduced to almost nothing, aside from a last attempt at manipulation he still tries to physically assert himself over her.
Truly, Dana Terrace and co. went above and beyond making him so terrifying and downright creepy, and we're still speaking of the sanitised version of The Owl House that Disney allowed to air.
Usually, I would have liked to prompt you to think of what could have been if the show had a higher age rating, but honestly, I don't think anyone actually wants to imagine that.

Belos/Philip Wittebane is one of my favorite villains in a very long time. He is realistic, nuanced, and does not pull his punches and I have been craving villains like this ever since stories have started trending for twist villains or a “nobody is truly evil” approach, especially from Disney.
I like how they made it so he’s just slightly hesitant to kill Luz and generally prefers to leave her alive if he thinks he won’t be sacrificing his plans to do so. His desire to try to protect or at least preserve human life makes his goal of committing literal genocide just so much darker and I am here for a good menacing villain.
I especially appreciate how he represents the kind of people who see satan in fucking everything and become destructive on their paths to “save” people’s souls. I was brought up in that kind of environment, and it’s gratifying to see it vilified as much as it deserves to be without turning it into a joke.

a friend and i were talking about hanahaki and i thought of this. copy and pasted from my texts because i actually despise typing
hunter from toh getting it would make a good story actually. like imagine he got it because of belos :0 belos never loved him he just loved the idea of what he could be so hunter is just like ???? why am i coughing up flowers? and it only goes away once hunter meets other people and forms bonds with them and realizes he cant love someone like belos but rather loves the idea of him but in a completely different way then how belos ‘loved’ him
