Talking About It 4/4
Summary: Part 4 of Talking About It.
It took nearly an hour, but they were finally safe; Connie, Steve, Robin and Eddie.
Sure, Steve had nearly collapsed from blood loss but since Connie tore a length of fabric from Robin’s shirt, he’d be okay.
Eddie was basically on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Being in another demention wasn’t exactly a pleasent experience. Robin was handling it - and Eddie - with a panicked calmness.
And Connie, well, she didn’t know what to think. She had dove in without a care, being sick of their arguing of who would go and see the ‘watergate’. But now she was stuck in another demention, with no way to get out, the added potential of running into Venca - whoever or whatever they might be. Not to mention they’d all just was nearly murdered with demo-bats or whatever you wanted to call them and one of them nearly killed Steve. And herself. And Robin. And Eddie.
Not to mention there was a sudden earthquake which sent them all flying into one another as well as sending more demo-bats their way.
But, thankfully, it was as peaceful as it could get. Robin and Connie had taken the lead in the woods, heading towards the Wheeler residence. Nancy owned two firearms. It was the best they would get.
“So what’s up with you and Steve recently?” Robin asked out of the blue.
“What about me and Steve?”
“Oh, you know, just that you’re in love with one another.”
“In love? Steve and - what?” Connie spluttered. “Steve and I are not in love. We’re...we’re just friends. Platonic.”
“Nooo.” Robin said, shaking her head. “Steve and I are just friend. Platonic with a capital P. You two are in love.”
“Robin.”
“What?”
“Stop it.” Connie told her. “Steve and I...we’re just friends. Nothing more. He’s...he’s my friend. He’s Steve. It would be weird.”
“So you’ve thought about it?” Robin asked with a coy smile.
“What? No. No. I just mean...Dustin looks up to him. He’s my friend. It would be weird if we..did that.”
“Did what?” Robin asked, the smile still on her face.
“Not that!”
“Maybe that.”
“Not that.”
Robin sighed a little. “So you’re telling me that you hung out over night when you first met, spoke all night, fell asleep in the same bed, talked about having kids-”
“Not together.”
“Still.” Robin pointed out. “And you’ve both been attached at the hip ever since. That you hang out at the weekends, and, even after being able to finish each others sentences and not to mention the fact you both act like the married couple of the group - you’re not in love?”
“We’re just friends.”
Robin scoffed.
“What?”
“You’re lying.”
“I’m not.”
“Yes you are.”
Connie shook her head. “No, I’m not.”
Robin laughed. “Oh, you couldn’t be a more terrible liar.”
Connie sighed. “What makes you think I’m lying?”
“You have a tell. Mmhm. Ask anyone. Ask Steve. God knows I’ve had to listen to him talk about you long enough.” Robin told her. “Steve!”
Robin seemed to have inturupted Eddie and Steve’s conversation which seemed to give Steve this longing look as he watched the other half of their team.
“Yeah - we’re coming!”
“What’s Connie’s tell?”
“Tell?” Steve asked as they got closer.
“You know, when I lie, what’s my tell?” Connie asked him.
“Oh, you have a crinkle.”
“I don’t have a crinkle.”
“You have a crinkle. You’re doing it right now.”
Connie quickly looked to Robin and then Eddie, who just nodded. “You do have a crinkle.”
Placing her hand to her forehead, Connie grumbled. “Fine. Let’s just go, before more rabies bats come after us and try and eat another pound out of you.”
“I second that.” Eddie said, placing his hand up. “I don’t want to be here any longer than I have to.”
“I’ll second his second.” Robin added.
So, finally, the moved on.
Only, when they finally got to the Wheeler house, Connie had more questions than she did answers.
Nancy’s guns seemed to have vanished, then Robin found a diary. The last entry was 1983. 3 years ago.
Had they also time travelled? Or was the upside down stuck in time? Like from when the last person had visited it? Or the last time Venca had woken up? Or when the Upside down had opened?
And then Steve started running around screaming Dustin’s name. He could hear him.
And then they heard him.
Maybe there were a few things that could still shock Connie.
And then they communicated to her brother, Max, Lucas and Erica through a glowing light.
And now they stood beneath a whole in Eddie’s home which seemed to deny the laws of physics.
“Guess I’m the guinne-pig.”
Robin went first, falling through the hole and upside down onto the matress above them. Eddie went next before finally, looking at one another, Connie and Steve smiled.
“Ladies first.”
With a boost, Steve helped Connie as she fell through the hole and finally, just before it shut, Steve came falling through.
All four of them, from Erica and Max’s comments, stunk. They were covered in dried blood, slime of some kind and dirt.
“You - you all need a show. Like, now.” Max told them, holding her nose as she got closer, turning Connie towards the door.
All four of them followed Max towards her trailer where each of them took a shower, finally being cleaned from the upside-down.
Only, as they were all sat around in Max’s trailer, Robin, Eddie and the kids had fallen asleep whilst trying to devise a plan on what to do.
“Hey.” Steve whispered as he came out of the bathroom, towel drying his hair.
“Hey, you ready?”
“No, but I can’t put it off.”
Opening up the first aid kit, Connie tried to reassure Steve. “Just hold still and it shouldn’t hurt as much.”
First Connie cleaned the wound before talking a couple of stitches and patching up Steve’s skin.
At first he hissed in pain, but Connie managed to finish it.
“Just one last thing.”
“What?”
But Steve didn’t have time to think because the moment the cleaning solution touched his skin, he felt Connie’s lips plant themsleves on his.
He was shocked but kissed back, the pain seemingly gone from his side as she distracted him.
“You’re all done.” Connie told him. “Sorry about kissing you, but I couldn’t think of any-”
“It’s okay. It - “ Steve clearned his throat. “It was a good kiss.”
The pair stood in Max’s kitchen for a while in silence when Steve spotted the look on Connie’s face as she watch the others sleep.
“Hey, you okay? What’s -”
“Do you love me?”
“Sorry-”
“It’s just...earlier Robin and I were talking and she said I was in love with you and she could tell that I was lying - now I know because of the crinkle that I apparently have. But she said I was in love with you and that we’re bascially the married couple of the group and then, the other day I was talking to Max about her and Lucas and then she asked about you and I and I started to think that maybe-”
But Connie’s spoken thought process was cut off when she found Steve’s lips on hers and his hands at one side of her face and at her lower back pulling her in closer to him.
Neither knew how long they stayed like that, but when they kiss was broke, they were both still stood as closer, swaying slight from the overwhelming feelings that had broken free from inside of them.
“Sorry,” Steve aplogised in a whisper, “Just...couldn’t think of another distraction.”
Connie couldn’t seem to speak, so just shook her head, the words coming out in a breathless whisper. “It’s okay.”
“But...yes.”
“Yes to what?” Connie asked.
Neither moved. Their foreheads still pressed gently against each others.
“I love you.”
This made Connie move. They were still in each other’s grip and rooted on the spot but now she could see his face as he spoke to her.
“I love you.” Steve repeated. “I think I have done for a while. But Eddie said the same thing to me before. True Love he called it. And I’m starting to wonder if maybe he’s right. I love you. I’m in love with you, Connie Henderson.”
“I’m in love with you, Steve Harrington.”
Only, as they shared another kiss, there was a small flash that went off in the corner of the room.
“Thought you’d want a picture.” Max smiled in a whisper.
Connie and Steve tried to hide their embarrassment but Max lay the camera down and got back under the covers, falling back to sleep almost instantly, Kate Bush echoing in her ears like a lulluby as she did so.
“What do we do when they wake up?” Connie asked.
“Wait and see how long it takes them to find the photo or for Max to tell them?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
And, in the darkness and silence, save for the snores of Dustin in the corner, the pair shared another kiss.

Atem Ra Surubi (art credit)
Ra is super important to me. He is a comfort OC with a engaging, tragic and dramatic story attached. He and his partner Ikarus are definitely one of my OTPs. He also reflects some of my biggest worries and fears, mainly the 'I am not good enough, I will fail and disappoint everyone' topic.
His story in a nutshell: In a fantasy world without technology, Ra grew up with Ikarus (who was taken in by his family as he became an orphan) and his parents. Ra was blessed in early years with special singing powers, which by default meant that he'd be the new king ('Atem') of the kingdom. An enemy Atem sent assassins, Ra survived but got badly injured and his father died. Ra was taken to the temple despite not being of age, to be safe and protected. But the royal guard in charge, Enzo, forbid Ras family to see him and vice versa, so Ra suddenly got taken away from his family. He grew up with the strict Enzo as his tutor, being lectured and punished a lot until he was only a shell of a person. That was until his childhood friend Ikarus came into the temple, as a disciple of Enzo, working hard to become a royal guard himself. With Ikarus at his side again, Ra began to bloom again, becoming himself and defying Enzo. Still, Ra is very unhappy with being an Atem and he sees his 'blessed powers' as a curse. Ikarus becomes the new commander of the royal guard eventually, protecting Ra of the many attacks of the enemy Atem. The only thing that still motivates Ra to move on ist Ikarus. Yet he doesn't realize that Ikarus has the most obvious crush on him (as they grew up like brothers) for quite a while until Ikarus almost dies in one attack and Ra fears for his life. Then Ra realizes that Ikarus is the love of his life as well. Later, Ra jumps over his shadow and travels to the enemy kingdom, only with Ikarus at his side, and fights and wins against the enemy Atem. His love Ikarus sacrifices himself during the fight, but gets brought back by another friendly Atem with healing powers. After that, they life happily ever after.
2. Donovan Nebula (art credit)
Donovan is such an old OC of mine. He is involved with a tragic vampire story, he is crazy and bloodthirsty. What is there not to like? While Donovan is in no way how I am myself (coldblooded, strategic, egoistic, etc.), he is just one of those dark mystery characters that I absolutely love. (Also his vampire partner, Karanos, is probably my biggest teenie crush ever haha.) But to talk serious business: Their story is one that mirrors so many bad traits of me and my best friend respectively. Donovan feels different, like he doesn't belong. He gets angry at people judging him and chose a life of solitude as there was noone who remotely understood him. Until he met his love - who as well is a broken man himself.
His story in a nutshell: He grew up with mental problems. He cannot feel fear and he is fascinated with blood, pain and death. His parents are horrible to him, so are the doctors, and he grows bitter. During highschool he has a jockey sweetheart that he is really into. But his boyfriend ends up cheating on him, and that was the last straw. Donovan snapped, killing him, the girl he cheated with, and later on his parents. He starts hiding in the shadows and starts to live a life full of darkness, death and solitude. Over years he works on his own network. Spying on people, having connections, killing, blackmailing, making deals - until he is the probably most feared man in town. "The red fog" or "the man in red" they call him. His town is his little playground where not even police dares to intervene. One day a new man in town starts disrupting his little order, which causes Donovan to investigate. He meets this man - Karanos - and tries to talk to him. But Karanos, who is a centuries old vampire, has no interest in him and almost kills him until he realizes that Donovan is a blackened - a human who rejected all humaninty inside of him. A human capable of becoming a ghoul and even a vampire without dying. After that, Karanos strikes a deal with Donovan, who is very attentive around this strange man. All the weird incidents that keep happening around Karanos slowly makes Donovan figure it all out (as superhuman beings are being viewed as just fairytales like in our world). After this realization, their relationship changes. Donovan is intrigued and yet careful, while Karanos is just a clumsy asshole who really tries to woo him. For the first time it seems like someone understands him, his cruel and cold mindset, and his grim view of the world. For once Donovan feels understood. After another vampire manages to trick Karanos and almost kill him, Donovan is shocked and griefing until he realizes he can still save him. Giving his life, Donovan stalls enough time for Karanos to get back up and fight back. In return, before Donovan dies, Karanos feeds him his blood and turns him into a ghoul - a gift he gratefully accepts. From that moment on, he belongs to Karanos. And he'd never change anything about it. (And no, they don't get a happy ever after, as both of them are riddled with so many problems that they keep facing new challenges, depressions, fights and much more. But in the end they still have each other.)
3. Kjell Svanfried (art credit)
Kjell is also a very old one. To be fair, the 3rd space is very debatable for me as I have MANY very important babies in my roster. But I'll go with Kjell. Kjell is the outcome of one of many human-demon-mutant experiments in our futuristic fantasy world. I love Kjell because he is a bitter man who fights for his and many mutants lives. He is a character who is not black or white like Ra and Donovan - with Ra being good, and Donovan being bad. Kjell is a man who thinks he does good and might do bad things. He means the best, he is passionate, but he is not perfect and makes mistakes. I love him a whole lot.
His story in a very short nutshell: Norway goes to war in the future. They have crazy biological technology and start cloning humans and creating human-demon hybrids (as well as other fantasy beings like elementals and ghosts and such). Kjell is one of the oldest mutants, being a proud airforce Colonel. Yet he is often disobeying and feral, which is why he wears a special collar that can punish him when he does forbidden things. (He gets punished a LOT.) One day 5 new soldiers arrive. Human-elementary hybrid clones 'The Skydiver'. A chaotic group that got reached around each camp like unwanted puppies. Kjell takes them in and trains them eventhough theyre said to be failures and useless. But Kjell doesnt listen and trains them, finds out they are very useful and actually great soldiers (and great people with similar mindsets). He befriends them despite the humans hating it. He protects them from the unfairness of the humans, protects them from getting killed of for being useless. He even falls in love with one of the boys, Steen. With a bit of help of the creater of the skydivers, he becomes their official leader. Kjell and his team bring in one victory after the other, but still the humans are unhappy because Kjell (a troublemaker) and the skydivers (5 big troublemakers) seem to work together a bit too well. The humans try to get rid of them with suicide missions, but they survive and get sent into another camp. After many more unfair things happen, Kjell decides it is enough. Finally one of the skydivers manages to free him from the collar, and the 6 of them start a revolution with many joining in. Kjell leads the new revolution strictly, killing every mutant that defies him. The revolution gets carried by angry mutants who want revenge, while many others just walk along so they dont get killed by Kjell. The revolution fails in the end, and Kjell and 4 of the skydivers get captured. A year later they get freed by an old comrade, and they escape and find their way back to the 5th skydiver (who started a new, bigger revolution from inside the population of Norway). Reunited, they march one last time until they win, gaining rights for the mutants and ending the war. Kjell goes into politics after that to continue fighting for their rights, but with peaceful means.

Hey there tumblies, it's me, ya boi!

I’ve been working on LongStory (on and off) since 2015, but I actually started as a fan! Once upon a time I blogged about queer nerd stuff for Xtra, Canada’s longtime LGBTQ+ publication, and I stumbled on the first episode of this adorable little romantic visual novel through Twitter (RIP). I was absolutely charmed, an instant fan, this gorgeous little game that let me relive the trials and tribulations of grade school life but in a more queer and trans friendly world. It was exactly the kind of game I wanted when I was growing up in a VERY small town in the Canadian Maritimes. So when they did a call for writers I think I was physically vibrating from excitement putting together my resume and sample scene—I actually remember exactly where I was, it was one of those weird, stars-aligned, stranger than fiction moments, but that’s a story for another time!
When I joined the team, we were basically a few writers, the producer/CEO and the programmer sitting around in a room figuring stuff out. I VERY ENTHUSIASTICALLY wrote a single VERY LONG episode which—instead of making me cut it down—the project leads generously cut in two and became Episode 4: Drama and Episode 5: Make Up, and I’ve been working with the company as a writer and narrative designer since then!
LongStory’s the first game project I ever got to work on, it’s near and dear to my heart, so when I got asked to join the team on a follow-up I was once again vibrating with excitement. The company is no longer a few people sitting around in a room, it’s basically doubled to a dozen actual employees and then a bunch of part-time contributors like me, and we’re working on not one, not two, but three—okay, one of them is in very early development, but still—games, with more coming down the line! It’s like we’re a real game company or something?!
YOU MAY HAVE HEARD WE’RE DOING A KICKSTARTER! We’re taking preorders through a crowdfunding campaign to finish development on seven shiny new episodes. We would ABSOLUTELY love if you supported the campaign, with just under two weeks and little over half way to our goal we really want to make it happen!
But, long story short (har har har), we wanted to make sure you know that there is a free Steam demo that you can very much play if you haven’t already! The team, including our narrative lead and I, put so much love into this demo which, let’s be honest, is the first full episode of LongStory 2. If you play it and like it, let us know what you think! In the meantime, I’m going to be here writing about what it’s like to work on LongStory, maybe take a look at some fun new additions to LS2, share some of our favourite fanart, answer some asks… talk about the music I’m listening to… uh… share cat pictures… SO YEAH! Game 257 - LongStory by Bloom Digital Media
I picked up this game through the itch.io Indie Bundle for Palestinian Aid. I chose to donate 10 dollars, and I found about 60 games in the bundle that I was actually interested in (and that I didn’t have from previous bundles.) So, the consideration for this game will be if it was worth the 17 cents (rounded up) that I paid for it and the hours that I played it for. The bundle has since ended, but I still encourage you to make a donation to the organizations listed here.
What did I think it was at first? I think I actually played this on mobile when it first came out? There was only one episode out then so I’m curious to see what it’s like now.
How was the character creator? It’s pretty neat! You can pick between two nebulously gendered protagonists and choose your name and pronouns. I wish you could choose your appearance in a little more detail?
How was the game? It honestly felt a lot like a middle grade novel. The game is a slice of life game where you navigate your 8th grade year with tons of zany drama. There’s dating, a mystery, friend fights, and your meddling protagonist is at the heart of it. You make choices and talk to others in order to develop relationships.
The game touches on several serious topics like homophobia, transphobia, school violence, learning disabilities, open relationships, and bullying. It’s tricky to do this and balance key ideas like a character who refuses to remove a mascot costume. Your choices do affect the story in some ways, but at times I found myself wishing to have less “dramatic” choices.
The cast is diverse and includes quite a few interesting characters. I followed the romance path with Abby and enjoyed it, even though there were lots of fights and our relationship was affected by middle school dramatics. You have the option to declare crushes on other people, and by the end of the game you’re able to declare an open relationship as 9th graders. It’s an interesting choice to be sure.
The graphics are OK but some characters look much more detailed than others, especially as the game continues on. The soundtrack was OK but songs were frequently reused and it became annoying at times. There are a few original songs but I found them kind of cringy honestly?
What did I not love? I think the game had a hard time finding it’s audience. It covers all of those tough subjects, but it’s also written to be appealing to middle schoolers? There’s some coarse language at the start but it fades out by the end of the game. I don’t know that I would want this game to be my kid’s first experience with open relationships or non-binary people because of how the game skims over those topics without a ton of discussion, however, as an adult I found it pretty juvenile. I did really like how the game handled helping a classmate with a learning disability, but the other topics seemed to be kind of thrown in there.
At 3 hours and 17 cents, was it really worth it? There are lots of dating sim games or slice of life games out there - I honestly didn’t really love it? I think there are better games in this genre but there are worse ones too. LongStory fell in the middle of the pack to me.

Alfa-Bank
Alexey Giyazov was hired by Alfa-Bank, Russia’s fourth largest bank and the largest privately owned bank in the country, in 2018. During his time there, he has put together and led a sizeable in-house team of top-level marketing, web sales, design, PR and internal comms experts.
His responsibilities also include oversight over the Alfa Research Center, a major research organization in its own right which combines global best practices in UX (user experience) and CX (customer experience) to deliver the best possible product to the public. The research centre has its own neural network, which is designed to capture people’s emotions, as well as ‘smart’ glasses, panoramic action cameras and controlled simulations of real-world environments such as public streets, offices, homes and public transportation. The researchers use these facilities to tailor the Alfa-Bank customer experience to reflect what matters to people.
Giyazov is renowned for his approach to advertising, having worked on a number of attention-grabbing and influential campaigns with high-profile public figures like Vladimir Pozner and Ivan Urgant – both of whom are well-known TV presenters – and the rapper Morgenshtern. He was also responsible for hiring the highly regarded journalist Tatyana Lysova to the marketing team. Lysova, who was previously the editor-in-chief at the Vedomosti daily business newspaper, is in charge of the editorial office at Alfa Investments.
The term ‘giyazovism’ has emerged in the marketing world, offering an acknowledgement of Giyazov’s influence and referring to buzzy projects that challenge expectations and change the face of the industry.
Alfa Chance
Giyazov was appointed head of the Alfa Chance charity in 2020. The foundation offers grants to help students finance their research projects, thereby supporting their development. Partners of the project include a number of higher educational institutions such as HSE University, Novosibirsk State University, Altai State University and Far Eastern Federal University.
Awards
The newspaper Kommersant published an industry-wide ranking of marketing executives in 2021, naming Giyazov as Best Marketing Director.
In 2020 and 2022, he placed among the finalists.
