#spent some time with a friend today and it was really nice!#it’s actually the second time I’ve hung out with a friend in a week#third if you count Sunday as being part of this week which I do#and I realized that this isn’t something that’s really happened before?#like just hanging out with friends without any specific reason to (like an extracurricular) this frequently#which yeah is sorta sad but it’s also nice because it means that things are improving!#I’m getting better at friendship stuff#another separate realization is that even the people who seem like they have a ton of friends to do things with don’t always actually have#a ton of friends to do things with#like hang out in a general sense sure but their specific interests and activities they like doing there’s not always a friend who will do it#like I guess I just assumed that you would do something that you feel meh about with a friend who wants to do the thing because#it’s your friend! and just by spending time with them you’ll enjoy yourself even if the activity isn’t your first choice#but I guess that’s not how everyone works? or maybe I’m just lonely? I don’t know#but my friend made an offhand comment that none of their friends would ever want to do [activity we were doing] and it just sorta baffled me#and made me sad#because they have a bunch of friends who care about them but seem to have this set in stone view of who they are#and so the stuff that my friend does that doesn’t fit that mold or that isn’t part of why they’re friends with my friend isn’t seen#they deserve to have more friends who enjoy every part of them! everyone does

I want to overanalyze everything Arle says and how others interact with her. 4.1 spoilers ahead
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(meanwhile Fontaine is the nation of human trafficking, actual slums exist and the law doesn't really apply to the wealthy)
She's very good at being unsettling. Half of what she says is a double-bind, she states things and the opposite of them at the same time. It's not even lies, she just rules out any possibility of truth. A conversation strategy the only goal of which is to throw people off balance. This creates a feeling that she might stab you right now in broad daylight or maybe give you a poisoned piece of cake.
A truly lovely woman.
Also an interesting parallel:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(first meeting with Furina and Arle's farewell to us)
Similar words but we understand what she meant each time, right? She's good. One has to constantly guess with her. It's your fault if you guessed incorrectly.
Tumblr media
Demanding too much before she voices her actual request. The classics of bargaining. Again, she's good.
Tumblr media
Traveler: "he would not fucking say that"
Personally, I think she's bullshiting to check our reaction. One of the best ways of getting information out of someone is to say a thing that is obviously untrue.
As a side note: interesting how hoyo are keeping the story suitable for all headcanons. Haters and indifferent people "know" that he had no chance of learning what food the traveler likes (their character doesn't interact with the boy that much). Shippers can "know" that we share Childe's love for spicy seafood and honey roast, not cake. Shippers who like cake can assume that she reads his letters. I also don't think he knows anything about Arle's taste in desserts, he's too self-centered for that. Anyway, lovely.
Alternative: it's a metaphor. This is obviously not a tea party, it's a battlefield. Childe would totally say *that*. But that's too subtle for most players, I doubt hoyo would do it.
Tumblr media
Everyone who had read Tartaglia's actual letters to home stifled a laugh there. Anyone who has *seen* our dear boy really. He doesn't write about what he contemplates or feels, only about actions. Here's a headache medicine for our dear father. Please tell Anton that people in Liyue don't eat stones, it would be ridiculous. I'll take the first boat home once I've finished making a bloodbath out of this lovely city.
Tumblr media
(a reminder in case anyone forgot)
So. Bullshiting again. Is she trying to check how close we are? Or to demonstrate that she doesn't, in fact, read his letters (even if she does)? I'm not considering the option that she's actually clueless, she's the Fatui spymaster after all.
(if she's trying to learn from us how to mimic his style to get to his family it would mean she's clueless and it would be bad writing)
Also I know that a lot of people are shouting "have you forgotten about the Vision??? stupid traveler, you have a proof that he's alive" and honestly I'm surprised. Why would we want to share *any* information with her? The traveler was visibly upset when Paimon blurted what she blurted. Also, yeah, let's tell a totalitarian country military official that her colleague recently gave one of his favorite weapons to an enemy of the state. Surely it will go swimmingly. That was intentional.
And then her farewell and her thanking us for helping the twins. Her unhingedness is suddenly gone. She might not be genuine but there's no double bind at least. She starts to say things that could be true or untrue.
Also this:
Tumblr media
Not even a guess that the Gnosis could be used to power the Oratrice? After the Akasha terminal plot it's a pretty obvious option to anyone, would she really miss something like that?
Is she trying to push us to do something? It's hard for me to believe that she genuinely doesn't understand. But also she shares that info about a curse. Meh. I don't understand what's happening here.

Have you ever struggled with accepting yourself? Or like, played games in your head of "but I've lived like this my entire life!" I'm just struggling with this feeling that I'm not really a guy, but also I've lived 20+ years as one and have been pretty meh about gender up until a few years ago, so maybe I am a guy? idk if that makes sense. I guess part of me is starting to accept I'm some flavor of trans, but another part is still unsure and scared about exploring this and trying to make sense of what this all means for me.
Sorry for the ramble, I'm just lost right now and idk where to start
Oh totally! I realized I was probably a trans woman at 18, and I remember freaking out in a college dorm bathroom and repressing it (my exact words/thoughts were “I’ll just try being non-binary for a while”, which, points for being technically correct past-Lily). I didn’t get my shit together and star transitioning until I was 22-23 😅
We live in a world that assumes you’re straight and cis (and skinny, neurotypical, not disabled, often white, etc etc) and it’s *hard* to get past that. And there’s this weird double think where it feels like you know that cognitively, but actually internalizing it and applying it to yourself can be really really difficult! It’s natural to have a hard time getting there, so to speak.
Something I find useful (personally, this may not be applicable to others) is to break things down into smaller points, rather than “would I rather be a man or a woman”. Some example questions:
Do I wish I was born as the other sex?
Do I wish people assumed I was the other gender?
Do I want boobs?
Do I want to wear femme/masc clothing?
Do I wish I was (or to be perceived as) a lesbian or a gay man?
If thinking about these questions and knowing the answers makes you Feel Something (giddy, nervous, anxious, etc), that can be a helpful way to interrogate yourself on this stuff!
(This is a modified version of how I’ve talked people through deciding on starting hormones; look at a list of the effects separate from ideas about gender: do you want boobs? Softer hair? Facial hair? Etc.)

Can I request miles 42 with an alien male s/o that has completely white eyes and struggles with social ques/ human culture🫶🫶🫶
miles 42 w/ an alien boyfriend !
i’m listening to charlie’s inferno rn, hope this is half decent <\3
established relationship
warnings: meh
pairing: earth 42 miles x male!reader
requests: refer to the blog guide besties
Tumblr media
★⋆ ⋆☆⋆ ☠︎︎ ⋆☆⋆⋆★✧
i’m gonna go ahead and quote the anarchist hobart brown rn and say i ain’t got a scooby doo where tf ur from or how u two met, that’s up to u
but at the same time i guess w the avengers n shit aliens aren’t something people can deny, so while miles was maybe a bit skeptical at first, it wasn’t the hardest thing in the world to believe
especially when you’ve got those big white eyes
not to mention how wildly awkward and clueless you are when it comes to earth customs
what’s christmas, you say ? it’s where this guy in red and a really big beard sneaks into ur home to drop off concealed items in a box that’s determined by lists that you’ve been put on depending on ur actions throughout the year. yeah, he sees you when ur sleeping my guy, be scared
i imagine miles explains it in a less lowkey way but i like to imagine ur now scared of santa and the concept of christmas
culture ! so much to learn
miles is obviously most eager to teach you about his own, his mum would be very happy to tell you things too
when he eventually tells her about his alien boyfriend, that is
you get to try foods from their culture, maybe try to learn spanish if you can
if you have some uncanny ability to grasp language’s immediately, then miles’ mum is thrilled, very happy to talk in her first language with you
gonna go ahead and assuming this miles is also fluent so, spanish all around if you can
go ahead and share ur own culture too, they’re admittedly intrigued
he occasionally likes to ask you about certain things, like if you have an equivalent of something on your planet while holding the thing up or showing you a picture
is specifically intrigued w art on ur planet, but he’s not the kinda guy to overwhelm you with questions
maybe like a handful a week
it takes miles a little while to get used to the fact that ur from off planet, so it takes him a bit to clock that you don’t understand a lot of things ur seeing
but eventually he’ll get into the habit of briefly explaining things to you, general concepts and guidelines
it becomes pretty second nature to him as some point and subconscious
like if ur staring at kettle and he notices how ur white eyes are just locked on it he’ll be like “…don’t touch it-“ cause he doesn’t want you to burn urself, he might fail to explain that at first
social cues ? who doesn’t struggle w them from time to time
miles likely won’t know how to help you at first, it’s an adjustment you both have to make to help each other out
so maybe you come up with some kinda signal when ur with other people, like he might do something discreet to help you out
ur still abrupt asf about it though because you never expect the signals, he honestly loves it about you lmao
might help you practice whenever he gets the free time, only if you actively wanna improve, he doesn’t mind otherwise
he cannot stress how important it is that you don’t wander off in the streets, if that’s something you tend to do
he loves you dearly and isn’t mad about your curiosity, but i feel like he’s able to read a room really well . if he feels like you aren’t safe then he’ll tell you to put your head down so people don’t see ur eyes, then ur both out
will figure out some way to hide them, it’s not even an if in certain situations
ur eyes are mesmerising to him but there’s no point if they put you in danger, so there are scenarios where he just won’t let you go certain places
not in a possessive way, it’s just literally the safest option
hates to be controlling like that sometimes but it’s better than risking it, he hopes you know that
while earth 42 is in flames i do still think that there would be a tight knit community in the neighbourhood, in those kinda circumstances all you’ve got is each other, y’know ?
so while it may not be the safest for you in some streets, you’ve got a home with miles and can feel secure enough
i cant even begin to imagine the amount of organisations you’ve gotta stay under the radar from
have fun w that

Why Dont More BNHA SI-OCs end up Animals?
No, seriously, Nedzu is both terrifying and an INCREDIBLE asset.
If you were a Villian. An ends justify the means sort of bloke, as it were, why WOULDN'T you try and make another Nedzu? Sure, he promises terrible, terrible, blood soaked Vengeance, the likes of which sane men fear to contemplate and madmen shudder to behold, but? It's not like THEY'LL get caught!
They are VERY smart.
They have a plan!
Are you catching the sarcasm? Cause they sure are catching these Probably A Stoat Hands! And a tire iron! No survivors! *Nedzu's back up coughs awkwardly* Fine. SOME survivors! But he's still upset.
He dislikes Labs.
And think about it! Really, what is more likely? Some rando has? Two(2) SEPERATE Quirks? One of which not only kicked pre-birth, but is continual and very likely the ONLY THING keeping THAT PARTICULAR SOUL in that body. While the other is? *spins the wheel* Meh. We'll figure it out later.
Those are VERY different Quirks!
They would require VERY different secondary adaptations. Some of which might CONFLICT. Fatally no less. It would also be a rather notable quirk mutation, from their parents.
Possibly HEREDITARY.
Gonna have your OC grapple with the reality the not ONLY have a Chronic, Life Threatening, Quirk Reliant Medical Condition. That if the ever get arrested, falsely or not, they better PRAY those cops both notice and GIVE A SHIT about their medical bracelet... or that's it.
One pair of Quirk Suppressing Handcuffs.
Any medical grade Suppressant.
They'll die. Plain and simple. Dressed up in fancy medical jargon, their body will just... given out. Like a puppets who's strings are cut.
Oh, and it's HEREDITARY.
Because Quirks run in bloodlines. And once a mutation happens? It's here to stay! So her/his/their KIDS all stand the chance of being yoinked from another world. And their grandkids. Great grandkids. For however long it takes to shift into something else.
Here's a brochure on adoption.
You know, assuming you live that long.
Is it a great idea to explore? Fuck yeah! Am I gonna do it? Fuck no! So free to a good home I guess, just lemme read it! But!! You know what SIDE STEPS all this?
Quirked Animals!
Perfect for all you dub-... actually, let's not lie to ourselfs, WILDLY UNETHICAL scientific needs! You can splice in genes for intelligence Quirks! Maybe you'll get it right! Ballpark it! So what if loads of them die horrifically? Something, something, in the name of progress! They tell themselves.
Nedzu :) Violently :) Disagrees :)
But he ALSO! Only soooorta gives a shit about... like a small handful of humans. A fellow Quirked Animal? Who needs Schooling and legal Gaurdianship? A guide to the world of humans?
Not to MENTION? My Ace ass love the concept? Of abstracting attraction!
Because!
You are a Cat.
You are a Quirked Cat. You Quirk allows you sentience and memories of being human. Do you still find humans attractive? Or was that your human body? Do you find CATS attractive? They are animals. Your mind rebels. But? Were two images, drawn upon a wall, presented too you? Which would be desirable to you now?
Well groomed fur? A charming grin?
No one and nothing?
You are a Cat. A teenager. Around you, your peers speak of dates and crushes and dreams of marriage in some far off future day. You struggle to reach the seat of your desk, too see the board properly. You have nothing you can add to their conversations.
Clothing feels oppressive and wrong against your fur.
It feels worse to be naked.
You are a Cat.

Hi! I was on the asexual tag saw this blog and just wanted to see if anyone else who is aspec can relate to my ramblings. Rambling tldr: not claiming a label despite that label actually relating to my experiences because it just doesn't fit perfect enough and because it doesn't fit perfect enough in my mind I don't think I want to use it.
Now, back in 2020 I claimed being 'asexual' by name and then a couple of months later claimed being aroflux which eventually changed to 'greyaro' over a year later. And those two terms fit me the best, grey aro ace is me. However, because I'm greyaro I still feel romantic attraction though it is rare but its still present enough in my mind to continually be wondering about what label to put it as. For the most part, I don't have a label even when the attraction - romantic/sensual/alterous/aesthetic - arises. Which again doesn't rise often, but I daydream about it a lot or reminisce about old crushes - particularly the one about a girl way back in high school days. (Let me tell you that was a wild time in my mind). Back then I was thinking I was bisexual only to cancel it out because I didn't want to have sex with her. However I never questioned if I wanted to have sex with boys (I just assumed I would, thanks heteroallonormativity). But the romantic feelings I had for her were the same like the boy crushes (which came up every few years). And for a timeline purposes, before her my last crush (boy) was in the 7th grade, she was the 11th grade, and my last crush currently was senior year of undergrad college (the best one honestly I could actually talk to him and not be overly ridden with anxiety and embarrassment). And despite so many years passing I always wonder - does the bi label fit? Was that with her an bi experience? I know its whatever I feel like it was but also I'm wondering if my hesitation is because deep down having that bi label attached makes the 'im not straight' thought more permanent? If that makes sense? Like 'im not straight' in any way, not even hetero aro/ace? And maybe that thought just makes my head spin a little. I thought about the pan label too; but when I read the definition to see the differences between bi and pan I realized that pan definition doesn't connect the closest but bi does. However I still can't always make it fit. It's like when I was going by aroflux despite the fact it did not fit for me, it was clunky in my brain calling myself that. But then I read about grey-aromantic and it fit perfect! But not my romantic orientation is still in murky waters; I ID as a girl so for the most part of my life boys have been what I've been romantically attracted to, however hetero isn't me. I usually just go as fluid for all my attraction titles which I do like but that opens up more discussion of "okay, but who, what gender?" So in that case I guess bi would be the correct answer...despite the fact gender doesn't play a part (hence fluid label I go with and or queer) but it isn't all genders I fall for, I lean in some directions more than others. So it kind of does, doesn't it? But again I'm like "....meh it just doesn't fit/doesn't fit the way I want." And I am one of those people who agree that you don't have to use every label or any label including micro (for example, aegosexual I can relate to but I don't feel the need to have two microlabels) however, once I start thinking in depth I start to question myself as I do because I'm a thinker. And I think a lot because in real life I'm not in the space where I can speak about this openly with the people in my life.
Wonder if anyone else has had something like this on and off throughout their life too?
Thanks for listening~
you can be bi and greyromantic at the same time, if that helps! but not wanting labels is totally valid and if that feels best then go for it!

i remember when jjk was more than just cheap shock value
no genuinely… and that’s something i really wanna talk about too in this ask i hope you don’t mind! 😭 i just have a lot to say…
i think in the beginning jjk truly did have genuine plot/story and there was MEANING in people’s words/actions and deaths would actually service the story/be impactful… like. a side character like riko/haibara who we only see in a few panels had SUCH an impact on a character like suguru and made him make choices that he believed would have been for the betterment of his loved ones. satoru’s OWN first death had impact on him bc it reminded him that he’s not infallible and he didn’t wanna take another chance at being hurt -> infinity being up 24/7. toji killing himself and dying again for the sake of his SON. i feel like after hidden inventory death was just… callous? and not in a good way that it services a story — it was just genuine shock value. i guess i could excuse nanami’s death to service the story but it’s like… he didn’t HAVE to die. and if he DID die, wouldn’t the mourning period for satoru be THAT much stronger? we just got a “damn that’s crazy” like ??? do you remember when yuji died and satoru sat down, closed his fist, raging & saying how he’d murder the higher ups? shoko saying that she hasn’t seen satoru be that emotional in a LONG time? like THAT was genuine anger/mourning bc someone satoru cared about DIED and it was on his conscious… you’d think that hearing about the death of his old friend/his student would send him into a mini spiral but no…? like i know gojo is used to this but he’s still HUMAN…
and again w the deaths/random plot as shock value i agree. it’s SO unnecessary. yuki/nobara/choso dying had no value. is higu dead? i forgot bc atp i just assume everyone is w the way this shit is going… like none of those deaths serviced the plot in ANY way??? just… shock value. and i get wanting to do shock value! it was used super well w riko and same w geto killing the village! but otherwise it’s like… what’s the point? same w the plot itself like… sometimes it doesn’t make sense…
and in terms of what’s happening w sukuna & gojo. i won’t spoil anything. but at least from what we’ve seen… i’m of the firm belief that gojo didn’t have to die/if he DID have to die then it should have turned into the six eyes theory/him reaching enlightenment! and also for sukuna as well… why does he seem weaker now and less scary 😭 like he was more frightening in yuji’s body in the beginning of jjk… same w the massacre in shibuya. THAT was terror. rn it’s not that scary. and also gege keeps sidelining yuji and it’s pissing me off… we JUST got yuji leveling up and now he’s pushed aside again 😭 i think gege forgets that this is yuji’s manga 😭 also don’t get me started on twin theory. it would’ve ate more than nephew/uncle i’m sorry i’m still hung up on that. also girl i’m still confused w kenjaku too 🤨 idk. i feel like gege genuinely started losing the plot both literally and figuratively… i think i would rather a big break and have him regroup/think about where he wants to take the story than what we have going on now but at the same time i respect/understand the fact that mangakas don’t get that luxury in the slightest… idk i just wish he knew how he wanted to take the ending of the story in the beginning bc at this point it just feels kinda :/ meh :/ which is sad bc jjk really was THAT bitch for me! still is but like… idk. the crown is tipping major rn is all………..
also remember how gege is always hating on gojo… i feel like it’s not a joke anymore and it’s kinda really upsetting me… just the way he’s taken things w his character/how other characters interact w him… idk. like the gojo we know is the gojo that gege presented to us in the beginning and it just seems like gege lost that along the way… the stuff he did to gojo was like not necessary and if it was, then there were better ways of going about it! and it seems like he’s forgotten about a lot of other characters………… like we’ve lost the plot. genuinely……..
sorry i keep adding on i just keep thinking of stuff but also… i care more about itafushi like more than anything. this story from the beginning has been ABOUT yuji AND megumi and their relationship. yuji ate sukuna’s finger and became a vessel willingly to SAVE megumi. yuji now is trying to SAVE megumi but i feel like gege doesn’t care? like we only got yuji seeing megumi for a split second… i feel like we should’ve gotten more info about megumi too! bc more than anything, this story is about itafushi wanting to save each other. gege just completely forgot about them and now that i think about it, i think that pisses me off the most 😭😭😭 like plot is LOST. fr.

Warming Up To You: Part 3
A/N: Here's part 3, who knew you were such good friends with Amy?
Part 1 Part 2 Masterlist
Tumblr media
_______________________________________________
You woke up the next morning cold and alone, thinking back to the previous night, you couldn't help the teasing smile on your lips. Sitting up, the blanket fell to your side, you stretched your arms above your head and let out a tired yawn. Who could have guessed sleeping on the ground would be so uncomfortable?
You took a quick glance around the cave, noting it had become a lot brighter since the sun had risen. You were unsure what time it was, but from the brightness of the world outside, you could only assume it was early afternoon. You thought about searching for Shadow, considering he wasn't around when you awoke.
Maybe he had things to do or maybe he was embarrassed about last night; you like to think it was the last option. Getting up and strutting to your bag, a small note fell and fluttered to the ground. Picking it up, your eyes scanned over the messy writing, 'Get out.' boy was he a pleasant host.
But, with your back sore and a nice, warm shower sounding great; you left. Making it through the forest with ease this time, you found yourself back in Hedgehog Village, surrounded by people you rarely spoke to. You felt a twang of pain in your lower back and quickly got to moving, you could just imagine it now:
The hot steamy shower water soothes your aches and pains, once dried and in only the comfiest of PJs, you'd order some take-out and watch a movie.
It sounded great.
Walking past Meh Burger, a blue blur stopped you in your tracks. Sonic stood before you with a smile, his fingers messing with the brown bandana around his neck as he looked off into the distance.
"Hey (Y/N), long time no see, huh?" why was he talking to you? Sure, you were 'friends' in a sense, you spoke whenever you came across each other's paths. But you never actively looked for a conversation.
"Erm, hi?" you gave him a meek wave, unsure where to go from there.
"Soooooo," he drew out, leaning back and forth on his heels as he finally turned to look at you, "Where ya been?"
"Huh?" you questioned, eyes widening. God, what if Sonic knew you were hanging out with his mortal enemy? Would you be evil and a criminal just by association?
"I-I haven't been anywhere," you stuttered out, sweat forming along your forehead. Sonic gave you a quizzical look, tilting his head to your bag, "Then, uh, what's with the camping sack?"
"Oh!" you gasped, following his gaze to the backpack, "This old thing? I, erm, went on a walking trail; yeah, that's it." Sonic furrowed his brows, tapping a finger against his chin, "Which trail? I'm just curious, I tend to run along them all the time."
"Ughhhhh, it's pretty secluded, I don't think you'd know it."
"Uh-huh," he huffed, growing more and more investigative, "Are you feeling alright, you're sweating a lot."
"Yes!" you accidentally shouted out, Shadow was right you were a terrible liar. Sonic stepped back once your voice raised, he knew something was off but he just couldn't put his finger on it, "O-kaaaaaay, well, when you go on this secluded trail of yours, I'd love to join."
"Y-yeah, maybe." you stammered, slowly starting to walk away. Before you could get far, a hand reached out for you, "You sure you're alright?" his eyes showed such concern for essentially a stranger.
You nodded your head rapidly, tightening your grip on the backpack straps, "Peachy," you mused. With that, you set off back to your house, a little more urgently than before. Sonic returned to his table at Meh Burger, still watching as you walked off in haste.
"Everything ok, Sonic?" Amy asked, munching on her burger. Sonic shrugged his shoulders, playing with a french fry "Yeah, I guess. It's just, (Y/N)'s acting pretty strange, I'm worried something's up."
"Eh, most people in this town are loco." Sticks shrugged, "I once saw Lady Walrus rustling through my trash, I knew I couldn't trust her and her bushy tail." she continued. The group stared at her confused, "What?" she huffed, but the gang didn't reply.
"Maybe they're just having an off day?" Tails inputted, taking a sip of his drink. Sonic sighed once more, it was slowly becoming a habit, "Yeah, maybe."
Across from him, the pink hedgehog faltered in her movements, slowly placing the burger down on her plate. She reached a hand over to Sonic to comfort him and hopefully set his mind at ease, "Hey, how about I go talk to them?"
"You don't need to Amy, really." he tried to deter her, he shouldn't get any more people involved. Besides, you said you were fine so that's the end of the story, right?
"Nonsense, (Y/N) and I go way back. I'm sure I can get them to open up a little." Amy waved away his worry. Knuckles lifted a brow, "I thought your only friends were us?"
Amy growled under her breath, "I have plenty of friends outside of this group, thank you very much." she huffed. Sticks spoke up, waving her arms around with sarcastic relief, "Great, now that's all outta the way, let's get back to Lady Walrus. Y'know, anotha thing I don't like about her is her little paws; they leave marks all ova my trash!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
You had laid out everything needed for the perfect shower: shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, scented candles, fluffy bathrobes and a warm towel on the radiator. Still armed in the sweat-ridden clothes from earlier, you were hankering for a good clean.
Just as you turned the shower nob a knock at the door stalled you. With a sigh, and a few mumbled curses, you turned the shower off again and shuffled to the door with vengeance. Ripping the door from its hinges, you saw Amy on the other side with open arms and a beaming smile.
"(Y/N), hugs!" She quickly embraced you, not really giving you room to reject her, "Amy?" you questioned back. The pink hedgy cringed, her nose flaring, "Ew, what's that smell?" on closer inspection and a few accidental sniffs, Amy pulled away from you.
"Gracious (Y/N), you stink. Do you not bathe or is your body wash infused with garbage?" Amy pinched her nose, giving you a good look up and down. You tried to act calm, emphasis on tried, "Well, I was about to go take a shower but someone stopped me."
"Oh, hehe, sorry." she rubbed the back of her neck before moving to the couch, "How about I make it up to you through therapy!" she cheered, patting the spot next to her.
"Therapy?" you gawked, "I don't need therapy, Amy."
"Of course you do, people who admit they don't need therapy are the ones that need therapy the most. That's the number one rule for someone like me who's a licenced therapist." She patted the couch again, insisting you join her.
You gave her a sceptical look, one eyebrow raised, "Since when were you a licenced therapist?" however, you still joined her on the couch; curiosity peaked.
"Remember back in school you were doing drama and I was sneaking off every night?" she said as though it was a casual thing. You nodded your head along anyway, "You said you were going on dates, and I quote, 'Doing normal teenager stuff'."
"Psssh, noooo," Amy laughed, "I was training to become a licensed therapist in these night classes held at the local gym. Anyway, back to you-"
"Woah, woah, woah, are we really going to ignore that you went to night school for therapy while learning history and crap?"
"Yes, now stop interrupting. Look, (Y/N), Sonic's worried about you-"
"He is?" you cut her off once more, this time she gave you a pointed look, "Sorry, sorry." you weakly apologised, a teasing smile on your lips. Amy rolled her eyes but continued, "Yes, he is. And as your longest-running friend, I too care deeply about you and want to know you're alright. So, spill the beans. I know you were out last night, so where were you?"
Her facade broke immediately, there was no more nice Amy. Instead sat a very concerned friend with a nose for mystery and getting into other people's business. You shook your head immediately, "I-I wasn't out last night," you stuttered out.
Amy wasn't having any of it, "Yes, you were. You have bags under your eyes and you stink worse than Sticks. But the real tell-tale sign is that I know you'd never go on a hiking trail early in the morning."
"H-how'd you know that?" you gawked, she really did know you. Amy flicked her hair over her shoulders, "You'd always be late to morning classes since you slept in all the time." You sighed defeated, "Fine, I'll tell you. But, promise not to tell your friends, especially Sonic?"
She looked apprehensive but nevertheless agreed, "Fine, deal. Now spill." And so you told her, you told her about meeting with Shadow and going back and sleeping in his cave; however, you failed to inform her of the impromptu cuddling session.
Amy was a passionate shipper, if she saw anyone in town that looked like a match, she would violently throw her whole heart into it and see them become a couple. And you were no different. For years she had been trying to set you up with people, even back in school. But you never fell for anyone like the way she had hoped.
She had claimed you were too picky:
"What's wrong with him?"
"He's too much of a neat freak."
"What about her?"
"Collects used plasters."
It just never worked out, but Amy wouldn't give up. So the moment you told her about Shadow her brain had just about exploded, "You like Shadow! Oh, I can see it now! You'd make a lovely pair, his edginess mixed with your witty comments."
"Amy, you can calm down. He doesn't even see me as a friend yet, never mind anything like that." Amy's ears deflated at the thought, her mind dwelling on Shadow's realistic character. But it didn't stop her for long, "But it could happen," she spoke with such glee; her ears perking up again.
"It could, doesn't mean it will." you shrugged. Amy pouted before slouching down against your couch with arms crossed, "What's up with you now?" you laughed out. Amy sighed dramatically, "Shadow, he's a- well...he's not exactly the most morally right guy out there."
Ah, so now you were getting to the part of the conversation you were dreading the most. You rubbed the back of your head sheepishly, looking everywhere around the room but at Amy, "Yeaaah, I thought you'd say that. Listen Amy I-"
"Jus- just promise me you'll be careful, please?" she gave you a pleading look. A small smile made its way onto your face, "Promise."
"Well then, I best be off." she jumped up from the couch as though you didn't just pour your heart out to her about a guy you had only met three times. Amy was by the door within a second, not even giving you any time to get off of the couch and join her.
"Do you have any words of wisdom for me, oh dear therapist of mine?" you mused, leaning your head back along the couch to catch a glimpse of the girl in pink. She laughed along with you, "Only to get to know him more, the best way to someone's heart is through their stomach."
"Gross,"
"I meant cooking, bake something for Shadow." she sighed, once more rolling her eyes. She stepped out the door, slowly closing it until all you could see was a smidgen of her face, "Good luck, ta ta!" and the door slammed shut.
Bake something for Shadow, huh? Did the guy even eat? Who Knows? You'd think more about it in the morning, for now, your shower was calling.

Postal 4 + Poostall Royale Fic
The Day Grandpa Slayed
I got the idea to make a short little fic where Poostall Dude & Doe are the ones who helped p4 get his ‘special’ petition outfit together :) This isn’t that good & is just silly ..
————————————————————————
“Okayyy! I see you!” Doe yelled out from her seat across from the other two sitting on the sofa perpendicular to her. Of course she also had her phone out, taking pictures with a wide smirk as she watched the men in front of her.
Dude had to glance away from Poostall to give her a frown which got him a slight slap on the shoulder from the man in front of him. “Don’t make faces. You’re already going to ruin your makeup Dude.” Poostall fussed before he took hold of Dudes face to make him face forward again. Dude mumbled out a sorry before Poostall got back to work on filling in Dudes eyebrows.
Honestly Dude didn’t give a fuck about her taking pictures or either of them joking around about it really. But damn that flash was bothering his eyes and he could deal without her constant snickering. It wasn’t the fact that Dude was man getting his makeup done that was making her giggle of course. Poostall was the one doing the makeup for christ sakes since she didn’t feel like it. It’s just that she liked picking on him particularly for being oldest Postal Dude. It didn’t necessarily get to him that much, he knew he had killer looks and charm but still both her and Poostall Dude were a handful and ‘evil’ rascals most of the time.
But he always also found himself liking that though. Sometimes he wished it was easier for him to still be a fast, sneaky, sly piece of shit person but with his aging bones, he found it harder to do as the years went by. So seeing the both of them gave him a feeling of nostalgia..though he isn’t in a hurry to admit that. Especially to Doe.
“Oh come on…I mean it. You look good! If this doesn’t get people signing your dumb thing I don’t think anything else will.” She said as she finally sat her phone back down and leaned back in the recliner. “You’re lucky you got Mr. Short Stuff helping you too. He’s better at makeup than me anyways.”
Poostall moved back from Dude to check out his handy work from further back. “Hmm…I dunno. Does that look okay to you?” He asked as he gestured towards her for Dude to turn his head back towards her.
Doe slipped off her sunglasses and squinted. “Hm..Yeah.” She said with a shrug before reaching back into the bowl of chips she’d been eating from. “Looks fine to me…Don’t forget to put on those really big eyelashes though! I think it would complete the look.”
Poostall nodded before digging back into his own makeup bag. “Did you actually want those on though old man? We can just do more mascara or something.” He said as he pulled out a couple false lashes and a small thing of what Dude assumed to be eyelash glue. (Hey. Dude kinda knew makeup…he’s fallen down random YouTube rabbit holes at night).
“Eh, fuck it. I’m already committed to wearing fucking stockings and high heels. At this point nothing is too much for me.” He replied. Looking down at himself he really didn’t know exactly how he gotten himself into this position but meh. Worse stuff has happened and he genuinely didn’t care when it came down to it. Maybe some people would laugh or something but he’s gotten that all his life so what reaction could happen this time that he’s not used to?
“Mkay. Do you wanna pick a set?” Poostall asked as he laid some of the fake lashes in their packaging in between them. Yeesh, they really made all these options for eyelashes? He’d kinda just assumed they had only one normal option which were just long and big and then the rest were more for parties where they had fake gems and whatnot. He’d have to try to learn more about this shit especially if these two knew a lot about it. It would make things less confusing for him to understand.
He picked up the set with the biggest lashes and handed it over. “Uhm, I guess this works? Unless I can’t use that or something..”
Poostall grinned. “You can. There isn’t a set you can’t really not use Dude.”
-
A bit later the look was complete. Dude really had done himself up from head to toe. Maybe going through all this just to get some signatures was pretty over the top but everything was said and done. Plus, Dude actually found himself quite amazed with how the makeup turned out as he looked into the small makeup mirror Poostall had handed him. The makeup really tied the look all together and he found he was actually feeling pretty confident! Old him would have definitely gave him shit for looking like this but for some reason, current him felt actually pretty attractive.
“Jesus fuck man. You really out did yourself.” Dude complemented him as he looked at himself from different angles with the mirror. He even made different faces in the reflection a couple times which made Poostall snicker. “Eh, it’s not much. Me and Doe usually take hours with makeup before we hit up clubs. Kinda just threw stuff together just now but I think it looks great too.”
“I mean it. Like you could probably uh- get some kinda career with these skills. I think that’s a thing right? You could be one of those uh..makeup gay guy influencers I see on YouTube.”
There was…many things about that statement that Poostall could say. Especially since the older guy in front of him was for real wearing high heels and Dude currently had a boyfriend but instead he just raised a eyebrow and gave a sarcastic thanks before beginning to put his makeup products back into a little bag.
Dude helped him gather his things back up before he pulled out his own phone to look at himself on selfie mode on the camera. “Do you all really think I look good?” He asked as he fixed a small smudge of lipstick. Poostall nodded, more concentrated on getting his stuff back together while Doe spoke up again to reassure him. “Like I said Dude, if this doesn’t work nothing will.” She smirked as she watched him check himself out. “You should upload a picture even. Tag me and Poostall though!”
Dude barely even knew how to navigate most social media but oh well, fuck it. Maybe he would share it somewhere, just keep it on his phone for memories sake.. or to show his boyfriend later. Either way, he snapped a photo or two before setting his phone back onto the couch with a sigh. “After I’m done I think I’m going to call it a day.” He grumbled, leaning back into the seat. The girl in front of him took another bite of a chip and nodded, crossing one of her legs on top of the other. The day before he’d basically gave them a tour of the town basically.. he’d been dealing with their asses for about a week now and letting them even sleep in his trailer…and even she knew that they can be annoying so she quickly understood. “Yeah. It’s supposed to rain later on I think. That’s what the cute weather lady said on the news earlier anyways. Yknow the one with the long hair? Blue eyes??”
Dude shrugged and checked the time on his phone. “Well it’s six now..”
“Uh.. yeah I would probably go ahead and head out now if you wanna make it back before it gets bad.” She said, picking up the remote next to her and flipping the channel from the old horror movie that had been on, to the weather which made Poostall huff. “I was watching that dumbass.”
“Oh shut up. You’ve seen that movie tons of times.” She grumbled back as she tossed the remote back down.
What was totally insane to Dude was that the two weren’t siblings..not because they looked similar obviously, since all ‘Postal Dudes’ do but just because they had that kinda energy. Plus, they’d both met each other without some funky ‘brain damage’ situation or anything weird. What they’d told Dude at least was they’d met each other at work and eventually moved in together since they just clicked so well..
Thinking of the fact there is apparently multiple versions of himself always just gave him a headache though, but sometimes he did wonder what happened to the one he’d met ages ago with the brown jacket. He understood that situation a bit more since he’d gotten pretty badly injured but nothing crazy to Dudes knowledge made him be able to meet these two but he wasn’t even going to question it. He’d met them, they’d seem nice, they’d needed a place to stay so he’s leaving it at that until whatever else eventually comes up.
-
Seeing that he indeed should go ahead and probably get ready to leave he stood up.
“Wait! Wait! Can I take a picture of you fully?” Doe asked as she lifted up her phone again. Dude rolled his eyes but posed anyways with a hand on his hip and a leg sticking out some. “Jeez.. you got some killer thighs man. Work it!” She giggled. “I know.” Dude dramatically sighed as he gave her another pose. “It’s a blessing and a curse.” He joked as he turned around to give her a over the shoulder pose, making her smile more and Poostall chuckle again.
“You gonna give us a twerk or something?! You got too much cake not to.” Doe joked as she zoomed out on him on her phone. “Cake?”
“Ass.” Poostall clarified as he stood up to go grab a drink out of the fridge. “Oh.. uh. Why not?” Dude said. He was in a playful, silly mood anyways. He liked seeing them finding joy in stupid crap so why not? He slowly dropped ‘it’ low and then to his sudden embarrassment both Doe and Poostall let out a wheeze. Doe laughed pretty hard until her eyes watered up. “Grandpas serving cunt!!” She yelled as she continued to record.
It left him feeling more self conscious than he thought he’d be so he suddenly stood back up, (ouch!! his legs!) before giving a small laugh of his own though his face was red. “Agh, shut up. I need to hurry up and take my meds so I can leave, assholes.” He smiled shyly before quickly making his way to a cupboard and pulling out all the meds he takes everyday.
-
Once he’d taken them and things had calmed down enough, (though Doe was still wiping her tears away) he stood near the door. “Alright. I’ll be back probably around nine. I’m going to pick up some food us even though I don’t think you all deserve it.” He joked.
“Aww, I’m sorry Dude. Well be good while you’re gone I promise and I’ll tease you a little less…eventually.”
“Hm..I’ll believe it when I see it. Anyways, be good you two. Im not saving your asses again like I did Monday night again.” Dude said, placing a hand on Doe’s hair, ruffling it up a little since she was the closest of the two. “Yeah yeah. Don’t worry. The hot chick is on anyways so I’m good.”
-
Dude soon left after giving a couple reminders, leaving Doe and Poostall alone.
“Hey…. My Doe-eyed Deary?”
“Hm?”
“Didnt Dude drive by a club the other day? Wanna go check it out while he’s out?”
“I like the way you think.”

I was rewatching the 4.1 trailer again (I just keep going back to it again and again because it's so good? The music?? The characters??? I WANT TO PLAY THE ARCHON QUEST RN SO BAD guess who'll be counting down days and then hours and then minutes until the update haha....)
So! My observations! (in brackets are what should be the timestamps of what I'm referring to/quoting, fyi):
(0:26) I can’t be mistaken, that voice in the beginning is Neuvillette's, and he says "I will arrange false charges against you so that you may secretly investigate inside the Fortress." What made me confused initially was, The Neuvillette— The Chief Justice— was pretty much doing something against the "laws he holds so dear" (not that I'm saying he's "stone hearted" and all that most assume of him, it's just that it feels wrong, to me at least. Neuvillette as I perceived was someone who would uphold the laws, but never at the cost of an innocent's life and yeah, yeah I get the whole deal with Navia's dad is contradictory, but look at Childe's case Neuvillette apologised to the unconscious Harbinger: "I am sorry. If you have been wronged, we will find the truth, but the rules of the court must be upheld.") Basically, I say he's doing everything in his power to protect the people of Fontaine from the prophecy. I believe Neuvillette is being wronged with the whole "Melusines can't be trusted! The same goes for Neuvillette!" like no, just no... But then the Melusines were 'born' from an Abyssal Monster aka Elynas....
Additionally: (2:55) Lyney asks "where did you take my siblings!?" Siblings, as in plural, perhaps the other orphans from the House of the Hearth who might have been sent to infiltrate the Fortress of Meropide??
(3:00) "Since they have no way to dispose of the leftover remains, they have ways to transform them into other forms and keep them in the Fortress forever" words by Wrio which hints that the "siblings" (if not someone else) Lyney mentioned might have been dissolved which is very scary since it means that this Primordial Sea water is now rather... accessible if I must say. (Like initially, I didn't care... not that I actually didn't, but morelike "meh, it would be taken care of by the traveller" because! that place where Traveller found the Primordial Sea water, it was like a tiny lake thingy, so I was thinking it wouldn't suddenly multiply and flood all of Fontaine... right?)
(3:06) Wrio is running away from a flood of Water of the Primordial Sea in the Fortress (it's kinda blue-purple, beautiful, glowy liquid so it's definitely not just some crack in the wall), whiiiiich kinda pretty much tells us of what was flowing in those pipes someone tells us to stay away from (I mean what else would be in pipes? Some kind of gas? Okay. The Primordial Sea water? Heck, yeah.) Okay, moving on,
(3:06) Neuvillette enters the Fortress and boom—(3:28) Neuvillette using what looks like a great amount of power (or he's just simply impressive in whatever he does... okay jokes aside,) to dispel the Water of the Primordial Sea.
So, Neuvillette is able to dispel the Primordial Water, but (3:55) it also looks surrounded at the same time??? And is that Furnina's voice? (If it is, it makes me wonder if she will be alright because I've been getting anxious from her lines (3:18) "Who are you? What are you trying to do? Please don’t kill me, I'm beggining you..." She's the Hydro Archon, for her to feel threatened, it's worrisome...) and what does it mean: "you will see much in the human world from the delightful, to the depressing... And one day, when you have dwelt among humanity long enough, you will be placed to bring judgement over all, as the spokesperson for Fontaine's past"?
Honestly, the more I listen to it, the more it makes me feel it isn't Furina's voice. But anyways I'll just consider that it could be her and will present to you 3 possible explanations for that dialogue (I could be horribly wrong):
One: it was Furina and she said that to Neuvillette (in the scenario where she must exhaust her powers to somehow prevent the Primordial Sea water from dissolving her people)
Two: it was said to Neuvillette but by the Previous Hydro Archon. It makes sense, him being (speculated, though at this point its basically a fact) the Hydro Dragon and having existed prior to Furina and alongside the previous Hydro Archon. And the part, "placed to bring judgement to all, as the spokesperson for Fontaine's past", could refer to him becoming the Chief Justice, someone who upholds the law as well as have memory of Fontaine's pasts
And lastly, the third possibility: it was said to the Traveller by... someone. The traveller is someone who isn't bound to the laws of Teyvat, and essentially, Irminsul. And tampering with Irminsul would have history changed, but the traveller will know (as we've seen with the whole Greater Lord Rukkhadevata and The Balladeer stuff). The traveller is essentially a witness (if you want to know more about this, I suggest you could watch this video if you had time to spare: the video). But if it was told to the Traveller, the whole judgement thing doesn't work out... unless the traveller of course decided to rebel against Furina because of her "failing to take action as an Archon", unlikely if I must say... (but then again, we did kind of rebel against Ei in Inazuma, but that would be repetitive too).
Sorry for the long rant hehe...
imma be real with you chief, i don't think its useful to make any kind of concrete predictions, esp lore ones, based on trailers. genshin trailers are notoriously cut v misleadingly, just to hook you with shock value. they put together visuals that have nothing to do with audio, like they'll show u boss battle with dramatic music and audio is gonna be like "oh no!! Traveler is DYING, someone help!!!" and then turns out audio is from joke part of the quest where traveler pretends to drown
that said, i think we'll get info on Neuvillette and i personally think its connected to former hydro archon and the fact that like half of oceanids left fontaine bc waters are "corrupted". idk if he existed before furina did tho. bc he's mentioned to appear about around time furina does, by the Narzissenkreuz director frex, who calls him "new Iudex" at the moment of time when furina builds opera house. so he was AT LEAST not a public figure before. and from that trailer audio about like living among humans and making judgement, it might be that he only appeared when furina became archon.

Novel Score
It's sometime around the beginning of a month, which apparently means these days that it's time for me to do a roundup post of the books I read in the preceding month--in this case, January 2024. Once again have been keeping on top of it during the month which helps me actually produce it in a timely manner. Because I started this back in November/December, doing monthly book posts isn't a New Year's resolution, unless the resolution was just "keep doing it". I'm keeping doing it.
Book list under the cut, book-related ramblings may include spoilers for Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series, Martha Wells's Murderbot series, Kelly Meding's Dreg City series, and maybe others. You have been warned.
Ashok Banker: Siege of Mithila, completed January 6
As mentioned previously, I am rapidly running out of books by male "diversity" slot authors in my collection. I read the first Ashok Banker book, Prince of Ayodhya, a few years earlier, and was kind of meh on it, so I wasn't sure if I would continue. But I did pick up the other one as a library discard (ah, the days when I got books and CDs as library discards…back when they used to have a sale rack in the local branch all the time, instead of saving them up for periodic bulk sales…) so I hadn't entirely given up on it. So, in not quite desperation, I turned to Siege of Mithila as my next diversity read.
The series is apparently a retelling of the Ramayana, which is some kind of important epic in India, though I can't judge if it's like "the Bible" or "King Arthur" or "The Iliad" or what, but I assume it's somewhere on that level, at least among certain cultures. My brief skimming of the Wikipedia article on the Ramayana implies that Banker is following the story pretty closely, which means that sometimes it gets a little weird plotwise, but is perhaps more revealing culturally or something. And sometimes it's a wee bit problematic…like the way that the main adversary for the first two books is Ravana, lord of the Asuras (basically demons), who rules over the southern island kingdom of Lanka (like…"Sri Lanka"?), which is populated entirely by Asuras. Which is about like if there was a fantasy series set in England where they had to fight evil demons from the western island kingdom of Eire or something. (Wait…do they have those?) One wonders if this series (or the original Ramayana) are quite as popular in Sri Lanka, then…
Anyway, we mostly follow Rama, the titular Prince of Ayodhya from the first book, and his half-brother Lakshman, but a lot of this book is also set back in the palace in Ayodhya following Rama's father the Maharaja, his three wives, and the evil (and hunchbacked--oh look, it's equating deformity with wickedness, that's awesome) witch Manthara as she and Ravana try to sabotage the kingdom from within. Rama and Lakshman end up going to Mithila instead of back to Ayodhya, and foiling a big Asura attack on the city, which comes unbelievably close to the end of the book and is not quite solved by deus ex machina, but doesn't feel particularly satisfying.
One element of the series is that some of the characters are just like ridiculously powerful sages who were like "I've been meditating for 5000 years so I'm really wise and can do anything, though I guess I should let Rama solve a few things on his own to gain some of his own wisdom". Not that this is all that different from, say, Gandalf or Merlin, of course... There are also some odd storytelling choices, like switching to a different set of characters just at a dramatic point in a different storyline, or, in one major side-quest, just skipping the ending of it and coming back to it a couple of chapters later in flashbacks. Also, one character is given important advice by a ghost which he then completely ignores (luckily other people overrule him, but it bugged me).
The book kind of feels like the second book of a trilogy, but not quite, which makes sense because apparently there are eight other books in the series, so it's not just about fighting Ravana and the Asuras. I'm on the bubble about the series, as you may have gathered, so I don't know offhand if I'll be going on.
T. Kingfisher: Clockwork Boys, completed January 9
I paced myself going through Siege of Mithila, taking seven days for it (I started on December 31st to get a little head start), so it put me a bit behind on my Goodreads challenge (100 books for the year, again). This means, time to read some shorter things! I haven't read any T. Kingfisher yet (though I have read, like, the webcomic "Digger" under her real name, Ursula Vernon, if nothing else), so I let my wife, who has read a lot of them, suggest which one I should start with, and this was the one she chose (at the time; it may have been a couple of years ago). We have it as an ebook from Kobo, which sometimes makes it a little hard to tell how long the book actually is in pages, but Goodreads claimed it was under 300 pages, so it seemed a possible three-day read.
I was, I guess, vaguely expecting a steampunk story involving two boys who were made of clockwork or something, but apparently it's more straight fantasy (not too similar to the Ramayana was far as I can tell, though, which is good because I like consecutive reads to vary in genre if at all possible) where the Clockwork Boys are the bad guys. Also, apparently this is the first of a duology, a "long book split in two" duology as opposed to "book and a sequel featuring the same characters" duology.
The characters seem somewhat interesting, though I'm not sure I'm 100% won over. Sir Caliban for some reason reminds me of both Sanderson's Kaladin and Bujold's Cazaril, but maybe it's just the similarity of names enhancing certain similarities of character. And the demons also made me think of Bujold's Penric books. Maybe the tone is a little light for me on this one. We've got the second one as an ebook too, so I'll finish it off at some point and then maybe take a look at Nettle & Bone or something.
Kelly Meding: The Night Before Dead, completed January 12
As I may have also mentioned previously, I've tried a whole lot of urban fantasy series. Many of them, my wife has enjoyed more than I have, and is all caught up on them, but most of those I'm only a few books in. (I've given up on relatively few--Jennifer Estep and Jess Haines, among others.) For whatever reason, my wife didn't like the first book in Kelly Meding's "Dreg City" series, Three Days To Dead, and this time, to be actually clever about it, I decided to read the book myself and decide if I wanted to continue on in the series before it went out of print. As it turned out, I did like the first book, and I kept reading it on my own. When the series got dropped by the publisher after four books, I even went and bought the last two books (self-published, probably print on demand) to finish the series.
So this is the last one, which is supposed to wrap up the main conflict. Our main character, Evy Stone, started out the series waking up after death in a newly-vacated body; she was part of a group that worked to deal with paranormal threats. This world has beast-form shapeshifters named "Theria", vampires, and lots of types of fey--mostly pretty usual when it comes to urban fantasy--and their existence is unknown to world at large, etc.
Thie book does seem to wrap things up well enough, at least for the main characters, though it's hard to say if all the resolutions are satisfying. Still, it was enjoyable enough. She does have a couple of other, shorter series which I can try next, since we do actually own them. (And maybe some stuff under a different name?)
Lois McMaster Bujold: Brothers In Arms, completed January 15
Next (chronologically) in the reread order, this is the one where Miles goes to Earth and discovers the existence of his clone-brother Mark (spoilers). It starts up with a level of frustration--why does Miles have to stay at the embassy, and why aren't his mercenaries getting paid?--but things mostly work out in the end. Ivan shows up again (by authorial fiat--it's a bit too much of a coincidence, really), we meet recurring character Duv Galeni, and of course Mark, as mentioned already. It's not a particular favourite, but it's pretty good. And without it, how would we get Mirror Dance, and thus Memory?
I feel like I should be able to say more about it, but I've already talked about the Vorkosigan series a lot in previous posts, and, like I said, it's not a particular favourite. I guess I could mention how the first time through the series I read them in publication order, and so this was before The Vor Game and Cetaganda… Also, although we don't see much of Earth outside of London, we do get a good look at the gigantic dikes being used to hold back the ocean, because in the intervening mumble-mumble centuries the sea levels have risen. So presumably the icecaps have melted or something, though it doesn't seem like the Gulf Stream has shut down or anything, so maybe they have managed to mitigate things somewhat. An interesting view of future Earth, anyway, without going too overboard on covering the vast majority of the planet not relevant to our immediate plot.
Seth Dickinson: The Traitor Baru Cormorant, completed January 20
Taking another book from my list of authors to try (currently stored on my pool table); I picked this one because apparently the author has a new book coming out, and I do see people talking about the character from time to time, so clearly this is a book/series that has had some staying power and cultural impact, as opposed to something obscure that apparently sank without a trace. But this is a book that my wife tried, and either didn't finish or didn't want to continue the series.
And, having finished it, I can see why. I wouldn't say that it's a bad book…but I didn't, in the end, like it. I read it all the way to the end, and I've decided I'll leave it there and not try to continue the series. And probably I won't look for other books by Dickinson either. Like Ian McDonald's Desolation Road, which I read last year, I felt, as I was reading it, that this was a book I would have liked a lot better when I was younger, but these days it just doesn't do it for me.
It has the feeling of fantasy, in that it's set in a different world from our own, and there is none of the futuristic technology that would explain this as being a colony world…but there is also little or nothing in the way of magic. A little alchemy, maybe, but I don't know that it's out of line with what you could achieve with actual drugs. No wizards, and I don't think there were supernatural creatures either. But it's fantasy-coded, and maybe there's some minor thing I'm forgetting. It's not about magic, though. It's really about colonialism, and what happens when you're sucked into the colonizer's system so far that you think that the only way to help your people is by going along with that system. And Baru Cormorant is somewhat autistic-coded, perhaps--not only is she a savant, but she seems to have trouble figuring out the motives and feelings of others. Puts too much confidence in the ability to explain everything using economics (the character and possibly also the author, quite frankly), in a way which reminds me mostly of Dave Sim's deconstruction of faith and fantasy in Cerebus: Church And State. Not sure if it counts as grimdark, but it feels like the honorable are punished for their naivety like in "A Song of Ice And Fire". I lost sympathy for the main character partway through, and never got much for anyone else either. One character I liked and hoped to see more of was (gratuitously?) killed in the middle of the book. I was forewarned of the existence of a plot twist at the end of the book, and when it came, although I wasn't completely surprised, I was disappointed, and I didn't feel that it worked.
So, yeah. Your mileage may vary, but this book did not win me over.
Charles Stross: The Annihilation Score, completed January 25
I wanted something a bit more light-hearted after the previous book, but not, apparently, too much so. Charles Stross's "Laundry Files" series is set against a backdrop of cosmic horror and the looming end of the world, but also of British governmental bureaucracy, out of which he can usually pull of a fair amount of humour, as well as humanity. The main protagonist of the series is Bob Howard (named in honour of Robert E. Howard, inventor of Conan and friend of Lovecraft), computational demonologist, and the books in turn have paid tribute to a lot of different sources--James Bond, vampires, American evangelical megachurches, and--in this book--superheroes. But also, in this book, Bob is not our narrator; instead, we get his wife, Mo, in the fallout of a scene in the previous book (which we get from her POV here) with dire implications for their relationship…which has always been kind of a three-way between Bob, Mo, and Mo's soul-eating sentient violin, and this triangle has now come to a crisis. Plus there's superheroes.
Stross notes in the introduction that he never really read American superhero comics, so he had to pick a few brains about them, but the book really isn't about American superheroes either; he references the British superhero anthology series "Temps" (which I never did manage to read, since I only managed to find the second book, but now I feel like I should check out) as contrasted with the "Wild Cards" series.
All in all it's pretty decent, with lots of witty read-aloud bits, but the pacing is odd; there's a lot of plotlines, and some of them don't seem to progress for a long time. Some of them turn out to be red herrings, I guess, but overall it doesn't gel as well as it could. We don't see much of Bob (which makes sense since this isn't his book), though Mo is a perfectly fine protagonist. I'll be fine going back to Bob for the next book. If I can ever find it.
See, apparently this is the last book in the series I own right now, and probably the next one, The Nightmare Stacks, came and went while I was behind on reading it, and now it's out of print (and possibly never had a mass-market release at all, which is still my preferred format) and seems like it'll be hard to find in any physical format. I mean, I went on a site which allows you to search indie and second-hand bookstores, and the title didn't even come up on search. I have long been resisting switching wholeheartedly over to ebooks (a transition my wife has already made), but I can see that at some point I may have to get used to the fact that ebooks are just replacing mass-market paperbacks for the cheap release format. (I still can't manage to bring myself to spend as much as $8, let alone $12 or more, for an ebook, though. Like…what am I paying for? The publishing costs are minuscule compared to physical copies, and I expect that saving to be passed on to me. I guess I don't know if the extra is being passed on to the author in a non-self-published situation, but given our current corporate hellscape I'm gonna say probably not. Note: if you think this makes me a horrible person who hates writers to make money, please remember that I am married to a writer who I would love to make enough money that I don't have to work, but the publishing industry is horrible and they're the ones that actually have the capability to allow writers to make enough money to make a living, and they're not doing it, so I don't know what to tell you. I've bought thousands of books in my life, even if I don't go out of my way to buy the most expensive ones, because that's a good way to go broke. Get off my back, person I made up for this parenthetical aside.)
Martha Wells: System Collapse, completed January 28
I may be the last person in my house to have read Murderbot. My wife had already read some of Martha Wells earlier books (Raksura series, I want to say) before she read the Murderbot novells, and she loved them and read them to/got our kids to read them too. I eventually scheduled one in (novellas are good when I'm behind on my Goodreads challenge) and…it was okay, I guess? And I kept reading them because, well, more novellas. Last year I read the first novel-length story, Network Effect, and I liked it somewhat better than the novellas, for whatever reason.
I had been putting off the latest one for a little while, though, partly because of my Vorkosigan reread--I generally don't like books that are too close in genre too close together, and they're both kinda space opera-ish, though quite different kinds (Murderbot's future is more corporate-dominated), but next up I'm taking a break for a Dick Francis reread, so I thought I might as well put it in now. Though I've got to say that, since we have it as a physical hardcover as opposed to the digital novella ebooks, I'm really not a big fan of the texture of the dust jacket. Like, it is physically unpleasant to touch, being just a little bit rough. But not as bad as some I'd run across in the past few years, so I don't have to, like, take off the dust jacket to read it.
In the end I didn't like it as well as Network Effect, though I did like the middle bit where Murderbot becomes a Youtube influencer. The early part of the book, Murderbot is in a bit of a depressive state and not fun to read, like the first part of "Order of The Phoenix" or something. I guess if a character is too hypercompetent then nothing challenges them, but I wasn't a big fan of the emotional arc.
Dick Francis: Forfeit, completed January 31
I remember precisely where I was when I first heard of Dick Francis. See, I went to this convention in Edmonton in the summer of 1989, "ConText '89". It was an important convention--a reader-oriented rather than media-dominated SF/Fantasy convention, for one thing, and also it resulted in the formation of the first SF/Fantasy writer's organization in Canada, currently named SF Canada. Oh, and also, I met a cute girl there (Nicole, a YA author guest from northern Alberta), started dating, fell in love, got married, had three kids, and we're still married today.
I also saw this posting for a writing course out at a place called the Black Cat Guest Ranch, in the Rockies near Hinton, and decided to go. There I met Candas Jane Dorsey (who was the instructor for the course) and several other writers, and we later formed a writers' group called The Cult of Pain which is still going to this day. Anyway, I went out for a second course there, with Nicole coming along this time (though we may not have technically been dating and didn't share a room)--I think it was in mid-February sometime--and one evening we were all hanging out in the outdoor hot tub, watching snowflakes melt over our heads, and talking about books. And Candas and Nicole started rhapsodizing about this guy named Dick Francis. I said, "Who?" And they both told me I had to go read him, like, right away.
Dick Francis, apparently, was a former steeplechase jockey turned mystery/thriller writer. Now, mysteries and thrillers were not really my thing--I was into the SF & fantasy--but I supposed I was willing to try it. I was in university and trying to read other stuff outside my comfort zone, like Thomas Hardy and The Brothers Karamazov and William S. Burroughs, so why not. Plus, I wanted my girlfriend to like me. And the first one I picked up was one that one of my roommates had lying around, called Forfeit. It was pretty decent, and I went on to others--Nicole had a copy of Nerve, and I soon started to pick up more--and eventually read almost all of them (a few proved elusive, but I tracked down a copy of Smokescreen not long ago…).
Every book was concerned in some way with horse racing, but there was a wide variety--sometimes the main character was a jockey, but sometimes that was just their side hustle, and they had another profession, or sometimes they did something else like train horses or transport horses, or paint pictures of horses, or they didn't do anything about horses but the romantic interest did… He covered a lot of different professions over his books, they were usually quite interesting, and his characters were always very well-drawn. After his wife Mary (apparently an uncredited frequent collaborator and researcher) died, there was a gap of a few years before he started writing them with his son Felix. I think I read all of those ones, but after he died and Felix started writing solo novels, I haven't really kept up on those ones.
Instead, a few years ago I decided I was going to reread all the books, in publication order, interspersed with my series rereads as I was already doing with Discworld and Star Trek books. Forfeit is his seventh published book…and when I went to look for it on my shelf, I discovered that I actually didn't own a copy, and probably never had. I had just borrowed it from my roommate, and then given it back (a rookie mistake). Was it in print? Of course not, don't be silly. I had managed to find a used copy of Smokescreen online, as I mentioned, but for Forfeit there was only more expensive trade paperbacks, or $8 ebooks. They didn't even have it at the library! Except, well, they did…but I'd have to interlibrary loan it. I went back on forth on which to try to do, and eventually went ILL, and it came in for me at the library on the 20th. So there, overpriced ebooks. (And person I made up for the earlier parenthetical aside.)
Dick Francis novels have turned to be pretty rereadable, because they're not primarily mysteries of the sort where you don't remember which of the suspects is guilty; they're mysteries where the main character has to figure out who's behind the crimes and then avoid getting killed by them. Some of it is competency porn as they use their special skills to solve problems. And some of it just because of the engaging characters, which are maybe not quite all the way there in the earlier books (the ones I've reread so far are still books from the 60s, so the female characters could be more nuanced). In Forfeit what I recalled from that first read (some 34 years ago) was that the main character was a sportswriter, it started with one of his colleagues killing himself, and his wife was disabled and bedridden. (And one exciting scene in the middle of the book in which spoilers.) Though it turned out I was conflating two suicide openings (Nerve also starts with one, a gunshot suicide on the first page, whereas Forfeit's is more falling out of a window), and the exciting scene is missing an element I was sure was there.
So that's eight books in one month, which is basically enough to keep up on my Goodreads challenge, but I also managed to squeeze in a couple more on the side track. First of all, there was my brother's book, Paths of Pollen, which came out last year; my mom went to the book launch in Toronto and brought back a signed copy for me. As one might expect, it talks about honeybees (and the time he was working on our stepfather's apiary), but covers a lot of pollen details I didn't know, about all the other bees, beetles, butterflies, insects, and other animals that also do pollination. It's a sobering look at how plants reproduce and how we're screwing it up in a lot of cases. (I hadn't realized before how much insects use pollen as food…somehow I thought they were nectar-eaters and they just picked up pollen because the plants forced them too, but I guess it makes sense that they also eat it.)
Then there was another one of the Love & Rockets ebook bundle that I've been going through. This volume, Esperanza, is around the latest stuff I read in the Love & Rockets Vol. 2 comics (which I have only read once or twice), so it's fairly unfamiliar to me. Despite it being named after Esperanza "Hopey" Glass, most of the book seems to revolve around Vivian, a.k.a. Frogmouth, a hot, buxom woman with an unfortunate voice, who both Maggie and Ray are lusting after, despite her problematic relationships with some violent criminals. Ray and Maggie do meet up again briefly; Maggie's working as an apartment superintendent, Hopey's working in a bar but trying to get into a teaching assistant job, surreal things happen with Izzy, Doyle's around as well, and we see brief glimpses of Maggie's sister Esther. It was interesting but I didn't find it altogether compelling.
With ten books for January, that means I'm really read up to 36.5 days into the year, or February 5th, so I'm a little bit ahead. I'll be taking advantage of this to start off February with a longer book, for my female diversity slot--Fonda Lee's Jade Legacy, to wrap up that series. More about that next month, of course…

how would you rank the characters in s7 i assume cheryl and toni take the top 2 spot but everyone else?
yes, they are top two, always.
cheryl: forever my fav, but i think what they've done with her this season is so, so good. the way they've used the 50s to show cheryl's growth is on par with how well they're using it show choni's. i do think the difference in her is also a result of her not having jason related trauma, but it's also obviously showing how much she's matured over the course of the show. i'm just so proud of her every week and pray they can keep it up for just nine more eps.
toni: her best season, bar none. they've finally figured out how to write her and write for her, and it's both so satisfying to finally see and frustrating that it took them this long to do it. but this is the toni i always knew she was, and seeing her perspective and struggles has been so nice. my single complaint is that she's missing so many episodes. anyone that has a bad word to say about her this season is dumb and nasty and has no empathy for black characters.
tabitha: no we haven't seen much of her but i love her so much and i miss her so much and i just can't rank anyone else higher than her, sorry.
reggie: we haven't seen much of him yet but i already love him so much. it's so interesting to see such a different version of him and think charles is doing a great job. best boy for sure.
archie: i do not find most of his plots interesting and he's been kinda meh in the last few eps, but i can't deny that i've found him really endearing for the first time in seasons. i do wish they would pull back on the straight savior stuff a bit, but still. i'm charmed most of the time.
kevin: it's been nice to see him get some meaty stuff to work with again, and to not be made a villain for once. i wish the writers would give his relationship with clay more onscreen development, but i'm glad kevin's journey has at least gotten some focus and has been taken seriously. i really hope they take the time to show that it helped him with his internalized homophobia in the present.
midge: listen is it unserious of me to put midge so high? yes, but i think she's cute and i love her dynamic with cheryl and toni and i appreciate her existence when it comes to fangs and i don't care which way they choose to bring her back to the present (there's a lot of ways i can think of), just that they do.
clay: i really like this guy and think he's sweet and a great match for kevin and a great fit on the show and in the gang. i wish we knew more about him and still think he should have been a topaz to give toni a family as well as kevin a love interest, but whatever.
veronica: i'm happy to see her with a bit of her spunk back, but i will just always struggle to find veronica or her stories interesting. i think she started the season off strong but now she's just fallen back into boring business and family related plots or mooning after boys with betty. meh. still, gets point for variety.
betty: i usually love betty, but find her kinda meh this season. i understand what they've been trying to do with her and i think lili is doing a good job, but it just feels so repetitive every episode, omg. we get it, betty is horny and wants to fuck the patriarchy both literally and metaphorically, can she come up with something else?
fangs: i don't mind him this season at all and i appreciate that he shaved and cut his hair so he doesn't look like the nasty man he was last season, but it's not like he's gotten anything to do for me to enjoy. but i don't hate him so good for him.
jughead: ranking him below fangs... look how they massacred my boy. i grew to love him at lot in the time jump, but i guess i'm just never going to like high school jughead because woof. the fact that i completely forgot about him until i almost hit publish says it all. completely isolated from the rest of the cast, with the most boring storylines on the show that's largely just him and guest stars... it's bad for him. not even tabitha could get me to pay attention to him.
julian: he does his job as a villain well and nick seems lovely, but obviously he's last. the one good thing i can say about him is that i'm glad they went with him over jason because i hate jason and think they've beaten that dead horse more than enough, and i'm actually intrigued by the dynamic between julian and cheryl.

Fic Writer Ask Game
🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
🙋‍♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic?
💖 What made you start writing?
❌ What's a trope you will never write?
🎯 Have any of your readers accurately guessed major plot points? Care to share which?
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. [I actually don't know if you should pick or I should pick, let's pick both. Or just pick one, you decide. You pick a character and tell your headcanon and/or I pick Nik Ryder and you tell me a few headcanons.]
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
(I've already answered this one, so I'll just paste the answer again) I'm gonna go with Where do broken hearts grow? because it's an emotional rollercoaster (for me) and I was very stressed about posting it. At that time I felt that I went too far for a fanfic and if I remember correctly that chapter was 4 different versions which were toned down a lot, but then I thought "meh, what the hell" and posted it at 2 am 😂
🙋‍♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic? I had a class called "creative writing" for two semesters which I liked to call "fanfic writing 101" and I always joked with my friends that I'll ace this class (which I did haha) because I used to be a very prolific fanfic writer since I was 12. So a few people know I used to write but do not know the specifics and do not know I still do it (and they won't find out")😁
💖 What made you start writing?
(I've already answered this one, so I'll just paste the answer again) When I joined tumblr choices fandom there were already many fics, but most of them were still set in the original blades universe, and I wanted something different. I'm a sucker for the domestic vibes and angst (together, preferably, lol) so assuming the "write what you want to read" stance I just sat down and wrote my first fic which I am too ashamed to look at now 😁
❌ What's a trope you will never write? mpreg + any fucked up things like in*est, the rest is up for discussion (but pls be reasonable)
🎯 Have any of your readers accurately guessed major plot points? Care to share which?
I can't think of anything, really. Maybe I'm a mastermind? 🤔
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please! + 🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
I decided to merge these two questions into one. I started writing short fics for Lucifer x MC, but I'm still not sure if I'll ever post them 🤐 Perhaps. But here's a snippet:
Tumblr media
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. [I actually don't know if you should pick or I should pick, let's pick both. Or just pick one, you decide. You pick a character and tell your headcanon and/or I pick Nik Ryder and you tell me a few headcanons.]
Okay, call me dumb, but I also don't understand 😂😂😂 Let's just do it like you said, the second option, I'll give you headcanons for Nik in my fics.
I don't have that many for him, honestly, he's still in the making, but here's what I can think of for now:
he curses a lot
after the whole bloodwraith case, he took 3 months off and chilled in Costa Rica 🍹
he started a "secret" project meaning reading about the fae (history, politics, all that jazz) after Cal mentioned to him that Niamh basically disappeared from Earth 🤐
he might or might not have a fling with someone 🤐🤐
he hates portals (and just like Geralt of Rivia he always makes everyone aware of that)
he had a nasty fall out with Cal, so they're not on the best of terms
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write? Niamh and Jude. Niamh because I decided to start my series a year after the events of nightbound + she didn't exactly have much personality in the book, so I feel like a can do basically anything with her - and it's the same with Jude since he's my OC.
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
I don't know if I'd say it broke my heart, but it definitely makes me very melancholic and nostalgic and leaves me with a heavy heart, it's the one I've already mentioned > Where do broken hearts grow?

if venomous could live his ' perfect dream life ' , what would that entail ? would he be single , be in a relationship , have children , pets , an ideal career ?
watch the final episode of ok ko /hj
A more serious answer, though? This is going to be a long ramble. I'm putting it under a readmore link because of the amount I've typed. I'm also assuming this "ideal reality" fix would happen like, right this second as if it was some weird magic anon thing. But I'll leave in a couple paragraphs for LB too :>
While it is confirmed that PV's ideal life is going out and causing destruction with Fink at his side, I do like to ignore that detail. I don't really have a good reason for it like I usually do for my other headcanons, it's just preference really? I just don't like it and that's enough for me to say "he actually felt very meh regarding that part in his life" and the real reason why that was so fun was truly just because Fink was there with him. They do get every other detail right though in my head. Fink is definitely part of it and they do villainous things together. PV supports her esports career. PV does eventually marry Boxman. I think retirement is on that list of things as well - he hates being money(well really power) obsessed so the moment he can finally chill about things regarding that he'd probably quit working pretty quickly. He still is a menace to society though no matter what - so while he'd not on the grind anymore he'd still do things like destroy people's stuff or fight people for kicks. As for children, definitely reconnecting with K.O and being forgiven is on his list, and then there's every single Boxman bot he'd be step fathering(I guess is the term?), and Fink. Roleplay wise, you also have to add Varian to this list of kids. Finally being able to say he's a good enough parent so he'd be comfortable with stuff like this. I also like to think PV's favorite place to be is a greenhouse. I think he'd have a mix of regular plants and then the freakish horrors he makes in there. He really likes plants. So the house he probably retires to has something like that, or is just a really good, ideal place for gardening and such. Regarding Shadowy Figure... PV sadly has it convinced in his mind that he'd be better without him. If you could yank that guy out of him, great! Do it! Kill him! This is also where I stray from canon a bit. If you remove Shadowy from PV he will have difficulty when it comes to feeling things like anger. While Shadowy is pretty much just PV's power hunger personified, I like to write it as being negative emotions in general in a way? That powerless/hopeless feeling people can have, specifically. PV has himself convinced that Shadowy isn't this, however, so part of this dream life would be pretty much removing the ability to feel hopeless or powerless. Which I think would also remove the ways the brain is supposed to feel sadness and such. Also, while we're here, I like to write PV with hating the fact that he likes the idea of being powerful. So while it's tempting to say his dream life he'd be the most powerful person to ever exist, he also acknowledges that this want and desire has caused him SO. MANY. PROBLEMS. He'd rather have the desire to be powerful taken out of him too currently. So his dream life would be him being capable of judging both having power and not being a shitty person + having his loved ones safe.
Now. If you ask Laserblast this, the answer I think would be different. I think he'd still really like to garden, but also he thinks he doesn't hate the job of being a hero. He's not about to wish for world peace but he also isn't going to go around asking for fights either and cause destruction like PV. He just wants to show that he can be as good or even better than his teammates(especially Carol). So just give him more power. Nothing bad could come from it. Also, I think LB has issues with being considered a villain. After "dying" in front of Carol I think one of the reasons he would have never considered a villains' "market"(PV's word not mine) is because he doesn't like villains, he doesn't want to be considered one, he does want things to get better and help... it's just his desire for power comes top on everything else. So, again, just give LB more power and he's happy I think.

Natasha's Symbiote in Marvel: CH 2: Convincing
Tumblr media
Natasha Romanoff was an awesome assassin. Her skills were obvious when she didn't panic because of the voice that sounded in her head.
Instead, she actually pulled out a dagger out of her sleeve and picked up the gun on the shelf beside the door and got ready for action :"who's there?"
Ali inside of her was honestly really satisfied with how cool headed she was even though someone was just inside her brain :"calm down, Natasha. I mean no harm, I promise."
While pointing the gun around as she gently walked around with the dagger in her hand, Natasha calmly looked around :"oh?
And why would I believe you? If you had nothing to hide, you would speak to me like a normal person instead of doing it like this. What are you? Some kind of a mutant with telepathy perhaps?"
Ali was interested as he internally hummed :'mutants? Guess that means that I'm in a normal type of marvel universe.
Meh, I'm not complaining. Would be boring if there weren't any villains to beat the shit out of. And besides, any marvel universe is better than its zombie universe...'
Without letting her guard down, Natasha looked around, but she didn't alarm the others for the fear of this unknown person suddenly targeting the children.
Ali answered with his deep voice :"no, I'm not a mutant or whatever. The reason why I'm talking inside of your head is because I literally can't talk any other way."
Natasha snorted as she checked everywhere for any signs of this unknown being :"hmph, so are you a mute or something?"
Ali chuckled inside of her as he denied :"no, I'm not. Well, I technically am if I'm not bonded with somebody.
So I'm not at the moment. Let me introduce myself. You can call me Majesty. I'm a Klyntar. Nice to meet you."
Natasha raised a confused eyebrow as she frowned :"a Klyntar? So are you some kind of an alien? Wait... Bonding... Are you a Symbiote?!"
'oh? Well, since this is a universe where mutants are around, I guess it's not that much of a surprise that Symbiotes are here as well.'
Ali obviously knew what she was talking about, but he still had to act like he didn't :"Symbiote? Is that what you call us here???"
Natasha frowned with a slight look of worry :"great, a Symbiote has attached itself to me... Sigh, are you a liquid like slime that has to bond with living beings?"
Ali hummed in agreement :"yes, I am. Have you seen any of my other kind perhaps?" Natasha sighed :"yes, I have.
And I'm pretty sure that I don't like them since both of them are murderers. One of them is even a psychopath who enjoys killing. So I don't have a very favorable expression on your kin."
Ali frowned. He knew that she had a point with how bad the reputation of the Klyntars was on earth, but he still felt a little offended since he was also a Klyntar now :"I think this is when you humans use the word "racist", right?"
Natasha's face twitched in annoyance as she rubbed her temples :"a Symbiote is calling me racist, as if it couldn't get any weirder..."
Ali internally rolled his eyes <metaphorically> as he huffed :"well, can you blame me? You've seen only a few of my kin, but you say that we're all evil.
It's like I came to earth and saw a bad person, then I assumed that all humans are bad. How would you feel about that? Maybe you just had bad luck when encountering Klyntars."
Natasha rolled her beautiful eyes as she put her arms up in surrender :"alright, geez. You win, I apologize. So are you saying that you're a good Klyntar or something?"
Ali hummed in curiosity before he asked :"I will answer that after you answer this question. What was the reputation of those guys who those "Symbiotes" bonded with when they were just normal humans?"
Natasha was confused, but she thought about it for a moment before answering :"Eddie Brock was a person with cancer who was left by every one of his relatives, and Cletus Kasady was a serial killer. Why?"
Ali hummed in understanding as he answered :"that explains it. You see, we Klyntars, or Symbiotes, don't have a personality at first.
We create a personality that is similar to our first host so we can bond with them. So if either of these people were the first hosts of a Symbiote, it's no wonder that they were bad guys."
Natasha had a look of realization as she nodded in understanding :"I see, so that's how it works.
That's why Carnage is so violent, he first appeared bonded with Cletus Kasady, so that explains it. Alright, I answered your question. Now it's your turn."
Ali chuckled in amusement :"I already told you my answer in a sense. If a Klyntar is a bad guy or a good guy depends on its first host. You, Natasha, are my first host."
Natasha calmed down while looking around with a raised eyebrow, because she didn't know where to look when talking :"so you're a bad guy?"
Ali was silent for a moment before he gently asked with a confused tone of voice :"Natasha, you good? Do you need to go to therapy?"
Natasha smirked with a light chuckle :"never thought a Symbiote would tell me if I need to go see a therapist. Since you sound so "caring" does that mean that you're a good guy?"
Ali shrugged <again, metaphorically> :"Well, you're one of the good guys, right? That means that I'm also a good guy."
Natasha snorted as she looked around suspiciously :"unless you don't eat brains, it would be very hard to convince me that you're not a bad guy."
Ali curled his lips as he tried to convince her :"Well, it's not like the brain is our main meal. The reason for why we eat brains is because of the chemical in the brain, phenethylamine.
The reason for why we eat it is both for staying healthy and sane. And we also feed on our host's adrenaline during fights.
In fact, the reason for why we bond with others is to have a steady supply of phenethylamine. But don't worry, because of my regenerative power, yours will return to normal the moment I eat it."
Natasha raised an eyebrow in confusion :"phenethylamine? Is there something that has it other than brains?"
Ali shrugged nonchalantly :"why don't you check that thing called google to see what foods on earth have phenethylamine?"
Natasha raised an eyebrow suspiciously :"didn't you say that I'm your first host? How do you know about Google and such?"
'Heh, because I was a human as well.' Ali snickered internally at the thought before he answered :"I had to look into your head to learn your language, so I looked to see and know your common sense as well."
Natasha immediately frowned, but before she could let out her dissatisfaction, Ali explained :"don't worry, I didn't look into anything private.
I should've done it since the more we know about our hosts, the better it is. But I didn't want to look into anything private and lose your trust.
After all, I want you to be able to trust me, so I wouldn't do something like check out your private memories.
I only checked things like what is a common language you speak and some things to know so I won't be clueless."
Natasha stopped frowning, but was still wary :"how should I trust your words? How would I know if you're lying or not?"
Ali shrugged helplessly :"is there any way for me to prove it? No, there isn't. Just try to believe in me, okay?
After all, we need to trust each other if we are going to team up. Your trust is very important to me, so I definitely wouldn't do something that would result in you not trusting me."
Natasha calmed down as she raised an eyebrow :"never thought that a Symbiote would be so reasonable considering how the others act."
Ali rolled his eyes with a sigh :"Natasha, you're being racist again." Natasha let out a light chuckle as she nodded :"alright, sorry."
She stopped chuckling as she got serious again :"from how you're talking, it seems like you're planning on staying. But what if I don't want you to bond with me?"
There was a few seconds of silence between the two before Ali sighed :"I'm sorry, Natasha, but I won't leave. There's a reason for it that I hope you will understand. Do you know what a perfect host is?"
Natasha sighed with a frown before she shook her head :"no, I don't know. What is it? Since it involves the host, I guess it's very important."
Ali nodded as he explained :"you see, we aren't evil beings. Klyntars, or Symbiotes as you call us, are actually peaceful beings who want to create the perfect symbiosis so we can become the ultimate being along with our host.
Being with a perfect host makes that a lot easier. After all, being with a normal host already makes the person a nightmare to fight against, a perfect host is many times more than that.
And you Natasha, are my perfect host. I am a little bit special, I can actually sense my perfect host, that's why I came to you.
I can still bond with other living beings, but there is no way that I will choose a normal host when I have a perfect host.
So yeah, I hope you will get used to me and learn to trust me, because I'm staying with you. But it's not a bad thing at all, me being special isn't just limited to me being able to sense my perfect host."
Natasha sighed as she rubbed her temples :"I don't have a choice, do I? Seems like this matter about"perfect host" is really important to you."
Ali nodded as he got serious :"Though we are a benevolent species, there is no literature on my home planet.
And though it is our goal to make the universe better, we create no art, no music, no culture. At least, not as other civilizations would understand it.
All We Have Are Our Hosts, the beings we join with, to porge through the cold and unforgiving cosmos with.
The bond between a klyntar and its host IS SACRED, they give our lives context and our existence meaning.
They give us history. All we have are our hosts to tell us who we are. That's why even a normal host is extremely important to us, just imagine how important a perfect host is."
Natasha thought about it for a few seconds before she sighed in defeat :"alright, fine. I will be with you, but if you go berserk and harm innocent people, I will definitely get rid of you."
Ali smiled as he nodded excitedly :"thanks! Don't worry, I've already said that I won't do something that would result in me losing your trust.
You should check how we should get phenethylamine then. But don't worry, even if there's no other way except eating brains, I will only eat the brains of bad guys."
Natasha nodded with a sigh before she raised an eyebrow :"shouldn't you come out now so we can meet face to face?"
Ali was silent for a moment before he asked suspiciously :"you won't attack me once I show myself, right?"
Natasha rolled her eyes before she shook her head :"no, I won't. Don't worry, now that I've agreed to let you bond with me, I won't go back on my words unless you break my trust."
Ali was silent for a moment before Natasha felt a weird sensation from her shoulder blade, like something coming out.
As the jet black liquid started to come out gently and slowly so as to not alarm Natasha, it finally formed a head with horns coming out of the corners of its mouth and some spikes from the back :"hello again, Natasha. It's nice to meet you."

My thoughts on the G3 Monster High Movie (spoilers under ‘keep reading’)
Hi, so obviously this is going to contain spoilers for the new Monster High movie (which yes, is leaked, though its not fully edited so that’s not really something I plan to talk about since that’s not exactly fair LOL) and I just have many thoughts from being a fan from the beginning and seeing now what’s about to be the 2nd rebirth (reboot more proper term but eh) of Monster High. Again, spoilers of course and I just wanted to share my own opinions and hopefully interact with other folks who have seen it too and/or just want to talk about it :)
I’m not a professional reviewer or anything and I will avoid being overly rambling, apologies in advance! To start with a quick review of the plot itself, the movie begins with Clawdeen in the human world basically doing a Tony Hawk until she crashes into someone and oh no, exposes her wolf ears and scares everyone! I have to say and I don’t want to comment much on the placement editing but seeing the placement Clawdeen jumps is so funny it reminds me of Neil Breen movies. ANYWAY.
She’s a fresh little 15 year old and is accepted to Monster High, and the whole half human thing does come into play already with her dad being a human, and I guess Clawdeen’s mother is dead? The rest of the movie seems to hint at this, and half human/monster folk will change into their human form when they feel intense emotions like fear for example, which, ok I guess. That answers the question how anyone could even find out about the secret other than seeing Clawdeen’s dad. Cut past scenes music dances, the main trio meeting for the first time, first class, I feel silly I already forget the teachers name but he teaches about how terrible humans are and the whole Jekyll/Hyde situation (RIP Jackson and Holt, you will be dearly missed) and Clawdeen being led to believe by the teacher that Jekyll’s lab is still on campus and he had a ‘magic potion’ that would eradicate his human side, which prompts Clawdeen to search for it, Draculaura is counted in because of her love of witchcraft is found by Clawdeen and Frankie (which is by the way, is frowned upon by monsters) and eventually end up in trouble due to the witchcraft. But you know rules are made to be broken, they find a way into the lab to find out the teacher led them, knew Clawdeen was half human and then takes the potion for himself to not actually become “full monster” but (and I quote) “The Ultimate Monster” that literally steals monsters powers because turns out, he’s the son of Jekyll/Hyde and wants to commit the revenge that was originally stopped, but of course he was stopped too and Clawdeen ends up being accepted by everyone realizing being 100% monster doesn’t mean you don’t have the heart and soul of a monster. Confetti. Woot.
Plot thoughts: What I typed out is a very simplified version of course, but so far, in comparison to what Welcome to Monster High was, this is a much stronger start to rebooting the franchise. Plenty of the spirit of g1 monster high is in this for sure. Like from Freaky Fusion that never got expanded upon, Monster High is very old and rich with all sorts of history, it’s not magically built by Draculaura. I’m very interested where I assume the animated series will pick up on for telling any history, or in fact, another movie. The ending of the movie has implied there might already be another one in the making, hinting at vampire society. Not sure yet but I’m sure we’ll find out. Now onto characters, what I really cared about the most!
Clawdeen: While the half human change is certainly, something, in the context of the movie it makes sense. Even if it’s a little... meh at best? Her character isn’t too bad, she’s not the sassy original Clawdeen so it’s definitely a change, but it’s not bad at all, and I’d like to see where it goes. It’s not exactly mentioned if she’s super interested in fashion, again, we will have to see.
Frankie: I. LOVE. THEM!!!!! The writers really captured how quirky Frankie is, not just their personality and learning the world around them, but to even their limbs coming off and this time around Frankie knows what parts of people they have, it’s a very cool aspect and I also just adore how ND coded they are. Definitely plenty of g1 elements but the genius element added in from g2, but still full of freaky flaws. Also the fact they are openly nonbinary, chefs kiss. I hope Garrett is proud of them in this movie, it is just one step but it is a step at all. Definitely the best character!
Draculaura: Now she has a pretty dramatic change in character, she’s very closed off and a bit “snobby” (not sure what other word to really use tbh) but once Frankie and Clawdeen see her witchcraft and immediately find it cool, she opens up and shows she is caring. Definitely wildly different from g1 and g2 Draculaura’s personality, but it’s welcome. I also just want to say I’m glad that Dracula in g2 and g3 is such an old-timer/boomer, it’s a charm I’m actually glad carried over from the first reboot.
Cleo: Genuinely very glad she’s back to her queen bee roots. No fearleading leader (yet?) but I love the classic mean girl who also will do the right thing when it’s needed most. She doesn’t have as much screentime as the trio, but I really enjoyed her in this.
Deuce: Very interesting to see him more involved again, he like Cleo doesn’t have a ton of screentime either, but he’s very laid back and it was interesting to learn that he specifically was the first in his family to go to monster high, due to a stigma against gorgons. Definitely hoping more is expanded on that in the animated series too. No answer who Lyra is supposed to be, and also in terms of Clawdeen x Deuce, I can’t really tell if they’re going to push that or not. In some areas, it seems like they want to try and push that, but on the flipside, they really do just seem like friends. I’m not really the best to judge on it, but I do kinda hope it’s just a friends thing after all.
Lagoona: Sad she has so little time on screen!!! I definitely wanted more of her, I genuinely hope that she gets more time to shine in the animated series. It’s also a neat take to see her and Cleo as best ghoul friends, it’s really sweet. Again, can’t wait to see it more fleshed out in the future.
Ghoulia: Also not tons of screentime (but feels like more than Lagoona?) from what I can tell, she has that zombie quirkiness but it does feel strange she actually speaks instead of zombie moans... going to take getting some used to.
And last, Heath: He’s Heath LOL not much to say but he’s certainly there!
Not sure how to really finish this off since I wanted the bulk of my thoughts just out somewhere, if you read through all of this thank you! I’ve been kind of avoiding a lot of monster high fans in recent times due to how much fighting and drama there has been and many, many extreme reactions towards this reboot, it doesn’t feel worth my time to engage with it. There are critiques to be made so far, but a lot of things feel like out right bashing and the fact Garrett himself had to state stop with the harassment (since actors and even VAs are being harassed online) and he wants to support this project even without being on it is a bit sad. A lot of anger also feels extremely recycled from the first reboot that happened, which in hindsight, had its criticisms too absolutely but it’s very weird seeing posts online even go as far as say g2 did things better... when I know deep down all of us know how rushed it was and faded out terribly. I like to think this time around the franchise can be a phoenix rising from it’s ashes, we’re off to a much better start than last time, and personally I’m excited to see where everything goes. Again, if you read this far thank you!
