Getting back into HotD for a bit now we have a release date for season 2 and....

I gotta say I really don't understand one thing about the HotD fandom that didn't seem to be as big a thing when the show first came out but is now huge even with people who are pro team black:

Everyone's always refering to Rhaenyra's kids as 'half-breeds' and 'fake valyrians' and Alicent's kids as pure blooded valyrians?? Like Harwin and Alicent have the same amount of Valyrian blood (0)???

Besides whatever weird regressive moral panic everyone seems to be having about Rhaenyra having kids out of wedlock, social rules about bastardry don't change genetics?

Only difference is Rhaenyra took a huge L having them look like Harwin and the Hightowers have weak genetics or something. Jace as a future king would have just as much Valyrian content in his blood as Aegon, and his kids even more Valyrian blood than Aegon's if he had them with Baela, who has more Valyrian blood than Helaena.

I see this thing all the time where people are saying Rhaenyra is destroying house targaryen and weakening her blood line by trying to have her kids inherit but the line actually gets weaker overall if Aegon inherits instead, so really the only problem is that her kids were had out of wedlock and like guys, how is that something we're condemning in 2023?

In the show the religious moral purity argument makes sense sure, bc they're a heavily patriarchal society that undervalues women and doesn't let them inherit except under very strict circumstances, and also that likes to punish and censure women having any of the same freedoms as men (reminder here that Aegon also has bastard children- he just doesn't raise or love them).

This is just something that is so weird to me as the defining reason people give to call Rhaenyra a 'spoiled whore' (?? In 2023??) and support Otto stealing her throne. I like and find characters interesting on both sides (especially Alicent), but at the point the show is at Rhaenyra is both the legal, rightful heir (as decreed by the king) and whatever her faults, a morally superior choice to Aegon if you think about relative ability to rule fairly and with the good of the people in mind.

Anyway rant almost over, but I would be interested to see if anyone could explain to me how Rhaenyra's children are less Targ than Alicent's apart from in appearance (which no one cared about when it was Jon Snow) and why their paternal parentage should even matter to US as the audience when we know for certainty that Rhaenyra's their mother. Even in-universe over half the realm supports Rhae (showing they don't care either).

(Side note: the Velaryons weren't gonna get done dirty at all in the long run either bc Luke and Rhaena's children would have both Velaryon blood and a huge chance to claim more dragons for the Velaryon house with the double dose of Targ blood on top. If they wanted the Velaryon look desperately they could just marry Rhaena's kids to Baela's kids, or to Vaemond's children/grandchildren.)

No hate to people that prefer the greens or anything I just don't understand the flack Rhae and the Strong boys get, especially since even if you don't like Rhae, characterisation-wise Jace and Baela as a ruling team (diplomatic, dragon riders, honorable, intelligent, dutiful, like and respect each other etc.) have the best chance out of the whole crew to successfully unify and rule Westeros in the future.

It just feels like it has to be a sexism thing bc otherwise it doesn't make sense to me 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Bnha 375: A Mess

So guys, our gals are back with some premium drama and let's start talking about it without wasting anymore time:

So finally! After like 30+ chapters of completely and utterly neglecting this battle, Horikoshi finally decided to bring it back into the picture and we're back again at the Okuto Island, which is ofc a beautiful Southern Island, completely isolated by the world where Ochako and Asui vs Toga is talking place.

Let's also ignore the fact that, this is probably the only battle that is not taking place in a symbolic location like Kamino or UA, because ofc those spots are reserved for our Big 3: Bakugo, Deku and Shouto.

Firstly, I hate the fact that Ochako is not a part of the Big 3, like why?

She was given so much importance in the beginning, always helping Deku out, having her own goals etc and now it's all given to Shouto. Not that I have anything against Shouto. I love the Todoroki plotline but sometimes it feels so off to not have a proper female representative in the show who actually does something and be a part of some major event.

That's total disrespect.

Anyways, enough rant. Let's just talk about the chapter for now:

Man, Ochako's going strong with this one. Guess her CQC training is getting better and coming handy. Also, what's up with this misdirection thingy? Is Toga some sort of Ninja whose voice echoes from every direction? Also, 4 people on one villain? Not wise.

Toga intelligence coming into picture. Also, unlike leaks this Wednesday, the real version says 30-40 minutes which is pretty accurate for Toga because we've seen Toga use Ochako and Deku's blood.

I like how Toga didn't took into account that Heroes would make a proper combat strategy only for her. Guess the heroes are not taking chances with this one. But for Toga, this just means that every path she takes will lead to her dead end.

Just like a normal person, she's afraid of dying.

But thing to notice here is the fact that previously Toga never had a strategy in mind. She was just playing around, doing her lovely dovey stuff etc etc.

But hostility and Resignation turned her into a full fledged villain.

I love how great this line is! Toga has turned into a villain now and this needs no more explanation.

She was a normal girl with an abnormal quirk. The society never accepted her and she had to leave home. Wearing a school uniform to camouflage herself with others because the world would be a little less harsher.

She joins the league, and finds someone she cares about the heroes she loves so much took him away...and when she comes back home, she finds all of her stuff thrown away.

She has no family to live or care for. No one that could give her the happiness or validation she seeks. And finally when even Deku and Ochako whom she thought would be a little more understanding does not give her a proper answer, she unleashed her full powered army.

It's ironic how the heroes already did everything in their power to secure victory and are still losing, and how the villains just decided to believe in their friends and just keep on winning making the situation even worse.

I like how this is the first time, Tsu's intelligence backfired on her! Being a proper villain now, Toga also took measures to stop Asui.

Since, Asui is a cool headed and calculative person , it was just as easy to predict that she would go after the veil. But, but, but! It literally backfired on her.

Also, does Asui not know about how quirk copying only works with the people Toga loves? Did Ochako not warn them?

Anyways, so this battle of intelligence just keeps on getting better and we have Asui being attacked by the high ends now.

Lol, classic shonen trope. At least I thought so. I thought it would be a game of Ochako recognising who the real Asui is. Or was Toga planing on killing Ochako pretending to be Tsu?

And then, a miracle happened.

Aren't usually these type of things reserved for heroes? Even Kinoko wonders how worse this situation is gonna get?

And we have, Ochako going for a last ditch effort saying they never had a chat about love like Toga wanted, which I guess was to distract her? She looked pretty serious about it but who knows? She's been thinking about Toga this entire time, afterall. We don't know what's going on in Ochako's mind either.

And Toga replies with how great it would be if we could. Which makes sense. It implies that all hope is already lost. The author is making it look like it.

And woah, we have SAD GIRLS PARADE!

Dayum! This was epic or what!

And finally look, who do we have here going the real battlefield?

I'm not sure if Tsu passed through the portal or not but this was chaotic! Like super duper chaotic!

Also, it reminds me so much of the 1st Paranormal Liberation War with Gigantimachia reaching the main battlefield and the war reaching its final climax. I can't help but think how similar the panelling is.

And with Ochako being here it opens so much possibilities.

You can't help but notice her between all the powerhouses and her being the only normal person-hero here. With her being in the front and centre it feels like she will be the one to turn the tables.

The seemingly normal, chubby little girl from Kansai will the first in destroying the plans of AFO.

Conclusion;

I really liked this chapter. It was a bit rushed with how we got to see this gang after a long time and yet it was just for one chapter. It has some major good points like mind game b/w Tsu and Toga. Villains relying more on nakama power than the heroes. Asui still coming in the clutch, like she's used to and Ochako entering the main battlefield.

Now this was good. This is literally the first time where Ochako is a part of something major. I know, she could be just there to counter sad man's parade but maybe she could contribute to something better.

I would talk about this in my next article.

LIFE OBSERVATIONS ❁❁❁

I see a lot of men crying about women/female nature and how they were manipulated/cheated/ betrayed and then they go to the gym to grow from pain, but they only become colder/ narcissistic/ egotistical and this stupid villain archetype that gets you pretty empty arguing and crying about women's bodycount/ their loose s*x lives/etc... But the stupidest thing is that the highest percentage of humans who consume p*rn, onlyfans, and all that shit are men, WTF?, if you see that this is happening it is mostly because we are allowing it. if men were really picky(mature), if we learned to manage our s*xual energy better, if we became more sensitive to life and less to our egos(minds), if we find something more transcendental than our beliefs/thoughts/feelings, and we become really clear about what we want from life/relationships and know what our real needs are...well, nothing of this would be happening. This whole issue of relationships/dating is something quite psychological and energetic, women are looking for the father figure that they did not have or had but is no longer in their lives in other mens, looking for the father archetype’s in each man (someone economically stable, independent, emotionally intelligent, funny, masculine, strong, wise, attractive, adventurous) and let me tell you that this is called: Divine masculine (the same thing happens with men). Why do men only look for s*x? Because if they unconsciously/instinctively see that a woman has nothing more to contribute/offer to a relationship other than demands and s*x, then they will only look for what gives them pleasure the most, that is s*x, and then they will forget about her / this goes both ways, and this my friends is called “Hookup Culture”. The funny thing is that as long men and women don't find something more transcendental than society, Ego, their minds and themselves... they will only continue to become more perverted, stupid, with shitty mental health’s, making decisions they regret, s*xually dirty /nasty because they don't know anything more transcendental than that. Also i noticed that depressed people are mostly sensitive people who don’t fit in with the superficialities of the society/world and well, traumas, childhood issues and all that too. Another thing, therapy is a very powerful / important but delicate process, so trying to do therapy on your own is like trying to do surgery on your own, because you are treating something very important but delicate that is your mind/mental health. Also therapy can make you really attractive, not the attractiveness of the Ego or Narcissism but genuinely attractiveness, Yes you can do the route of Ego attractiveness, it’s Okay, nothing is stopping you but see how it goes on the long run, it could make you feel very empty and is a really really hard working process, and therapy is a healing process, but you have to know how to go to therapy and this is where people stagnate or do not have good “results”, because many go to therapy just because they want to heal or be treated but they do not know very well what they need/want to heal, so my recommendation is to make a list of things that you want to treat in therapy, because that will open the doors and possibilities of your deep healing. So don't do things like self-diagnose and stuff like that because it's a pretty stupid move for your evolution/process. Another thing, if someone did you wrong or did hurt you your job is take care of yourself, of course you could talk with your friends about the issue and with your therapist, but is not your job destroying the life of that person, actually that is very nasty and it leads nowhere, because starting to destroy/expose the lives of the people who hurt you so that other people practically destroy them, you are committing a horrible crime, you are practically leaving no room for error and growth, which is part of human nature, you are practically using again the tyrannical practices that the Nazis did, yes I know it is painful, but your job is to take care of yourself, heal and move on, not destroy someone else's life, and if you think they should pay, believe me they will pay, Saturn will take care of that, don't worry. 🌿If you wanna see more posts like this, tell me on the comments<3🌿

1. What genre of music do they listen to the most? Would people assume they would like that style of music or is it wildly unfitting to their appearance? (ie; cutesy pastel girl likes heavy metal)

hehe he has a playlist JUST for this. but he mostly listens to like... indie/alt stuff..? like guitar n bass heavy. and usually in minor chords.

i think it fits tbh, he looks like an indie kinda guy

2. In terms of power scaling in-universe, are they about as strong as everyone else, stupidly overpowered, extremely weak, etc?

now this kinda depends on which Archer we're talking about.

see, there's actually TWO Archers. from two different universes/stories. like he acts differently enough in each version to be classified as an entirely separate character

so theres Demon Hunter Archer (DH) where he is, you guessed it, a demon hunter.

and there's Spider's Den Archer (SD) where he's kind of a... nosy jack of all trades type with no powers at all nd hes just a regular person

DH Archer? significantly weaker than his peers. doesnt use his abilities properly, can do stuff on his own but its like. nothing spectacular. hes very mid power wise here.

SD Archer is also like, not spectacular. he is lacking in physical strength and stamina and endurance but like. his smarts? insane. i ranked the main cast based on intelligence and Archer was up at the top, tied for first place with two others (a seeeecwwet). but apart from that hes pretty mid too actually. a bit LESS mid than DH Archer but still mid

as mentioned, most of these are songs that he'd LISTEN to, more than like... songs that describe him. and also theres a mix of DH Archer + SD Archer who are basically like.... two different characters with how they act.

i'm currently fixated on SD Archer BUT. DH Archer actually DOES have a song tht best describes him. "switch it up" by the happy children. and its mostly the chorus (i forgor the lyrics) but about needing to get ur face smashed on a truck, u know. like something about his hopeful nature and that he's willing to get up and try again

SD Archer doesnt have a defined theme like that BUT. out of these... I Wish actually fits pretty well. surprisingly.

i wouldnt call this a personality change since its more like... him being a different character depending on what universe hes in. BUT.

the key difference between the two? DH Archer is more bright eyed and hopeful and is more willing to fight for the future. SD Archer is shit miserable and pessimistic and full of malice and evil (makes pipe bombs in your garage). also SD Archer is more deadpan and aloof at first (like when you meet him before he warms up to you). DH Archer is more... awkward.

6. When it comes to food, are they more into savoury, salty, sweet, sour, spicy etcetc food? Are they picky with their food or will they eat just about anything that isn't spoiled?

he'll eat just about anything, but he prefers savoury stuff the most

HMMM... his theme/leitmotif would be like... bass guitar heavy. thats His Instrument. and it would probably start out all like somber n sad, but then devolve into something... violent and angry? but finish off in a hopeful kinda way..

OH GOD YEAH. yeah. he has all of my mental issues and hes trans n gay and also seems aloof and quiet at first until you get to know him. hes super heavily based off of me but with like... a little touch of his own flavour. he is different from me in his own way

funny thing, Archer's character actually started as a self insert for a demon hunter story. when talking about him, id refer to him as "i" or "me". but he ended up becoming his own thing with time, completely separated from me :]

17. Are they capable of holding their own in a fight or are they laughably easy to beat?

UHHH depends on which one we're talking about again

DH Archer can hold his own against like... weaker, fodder type enemies. but with stronger n a bit more intelligent ones? ehhh not so much. and probably not much against other demon hunters either.

SD Archer isnt one for physical altercations at all. he'd get his ass beat. he'd probably end up getting enraged and try going for low blow fury type attacks, like going for the eyes or just hitting whatever's in the way, but like. he's really easy to deal with

18. Do they swear often? On occasion? At All?

all the time also he says slurs

19. How do they text people? Lots of exclamations? All lowercase? Very Serious And Grammatically Correct? 1 Billion Emojis? Cutesy uwu speak? Etc etc.

he types in all lowercase, doesnt shorten his words (you -> u, tonight -> tonite, etc.) and uses apostrophes. he doesn't use emojis unless its ironic and you rarely see him using punctuation of any kind.

he talks super blunt and just say what he means. no typing quirks, we die like men

hard to befriend for sure, mostly because he's so closed off at first. if youre enough of an extrovert or spend a long enough time around him he'll grow to like you tho.

he does not care at all as long as its a variation of his name. most of the time he doesnt have a reaction to nicknames, but if its someone he likes romantically he'll like... blush a lil but not say anything

I had a funny thought that turned a bit angsty. Let's say Alpha has their kid with them and said kid is just like their Omega parent and it's really obvious to those who know their Omega parent (like Naruto's kid in front of Iruka) and the Alpha just goes "yeah, my mate hit copy/paste with them. That's all them. I'm pretty sure they reproduced asexually like sponge and I'm just here for fun." It's meant as a joke and I feel like, some of the Naruto Omegas would laugh, make a joke ("you think you're fun?"), and move on and some would get very weirdly insecure about it. I feel like Neji specifically (in the au where he has his one kid) would be like "did...do you not like our kid? I tried very hard on on them. Are you mad that they are more like me?" I also feel like some Omegas would be like "are you not feeling valued? Why do you think you're disposable like this?"

Yessss, I love this, send me more things like this, please!! But you’re totally right!

Naruto thinks it’s hilarious how strong his genes are! You joke about him hitting copy and paste and he’s like “of course, because our child had to have the best genes!” Until it’s time for you to help your child with their homework, then Naruto is suddenly all, “they learn more like you! They’re basically a carbon copy of you, intelligence wise, they only look like me so I think you should help 😊”

Sasuke doesn’t find it funny, but also doesn’t care. He hns in acknowledgement of what you said but doesn’t say anything back. Uchiha genes are strong and you were both aware of that, he expected his child to look exactly like him (even though he was secretly hoping for a more balanced mix). Tbh, he’s likely too busy figuring out how to deal with a child that can out-brood him and mentally apologizing to Kakashi, to give your joke much thought.

Shino does get worried when he hears your joke. He knows that his child looks and acts a lot like him, and when you start adding the clan things, like his kikaichu and the glasses and the high collar, suddenly his child looks like a miniature clone of him. Has Shino been leaving you out by accident? Has he been pushing his clan and family traditions so hard that he’s forgotten to incorporate your family traditions? Are you going to love your child less because of him doing that? Will you resent him? Leave them both? He gets a bit lost in his head. He sits his alpha down that evening and apologises formally, promising to always consider what you want in regards to your child a little bit more etc. Words are not his strong point but he feels like he owes you a good apology at the very least. Of course, his alpha is like “baby, please calm down, I’m not going to leave our family because our child wears the same sunglasses as you??”

Shikamaru snorts and makes a comment about how he doesn’t hear you complaining when their child sleeps through the night every night and goes down for a nap with enthusiasm. Then his alpha is like ‘true tho’ and the conversation moves on.

Sai is just like, “humans can’t reproduce asexually?? We had sex, don’t you remember??”. Joke killed instantly.

You are absolutely right about Neji though, he takes it quite personally. It was so hard for him to expand your family, and there’s no way he’s ever going to be able to do it again, so the idea that you might be unsatisfied fills him with equal parts despair and anger. On one hand, he always hears people talk about how much they want a mix of them and their partner running around, and he can understand why you might be disappointed and he’s heartbroken, but on the other hand, his alpha knows what he went through for their pup and for them to disregard that and disrespect their child makes Neji very angry. Neji brings it up passive aggressively the next day and his alpha really has no idea how he reached the conclusion he reached. His alpha tells him how much they love that their child is just like Neji, how they’ll also grow up to show more of them in time. Then they make a mental note never to joke about their similarities again.

Iruka takes the joke in good fun, as he does most things, and his response will depend on who is there with him. If the pup is there, Iruka will turn the joke on them, saying “well, if they’re exactly like me then it means they must love vegetables! We’re only eating vegetables from now on!” He finds their protests very amusing. If the pup isn’t there, he makes a joke about how lucky they are that their pup takes after him, because then there’s a hope that they’ll be able to [insert household chore alpha is bad at] in the future.” Then he side eyes you hard, before laughing at your offended face.

Itachi finds the joke vaguely amusing, and if he’s only around very trusted people. He may even joke back, letting you know that if he did know how to produce children that way, he wouldn’t have needed to get married to you at all. He finds his alphas fake offence even more amusing. Itachi likes having a child that’s just like him because he feels like he can understand them and their needs better. His aim, after all, was to make their childhood happier than his, and if he knows how to make them happy, he feels a lot more relaxed. Although, this sort of joke might be inappropriate if Itachi has only just given birth. He’s a lot more sensitive at that time and might take it as a critique than a joke.

The joke makes Gaara feel a little isolated. Him and his alpha are a team, they made the pup together and they raise the pup together, the pup is literally both of you, so why would you say that? He ends up pointing out all the physical features and behavioural traits that the pup shares with his alpha, no matter how small, and when his alpha just laughs and says “I know, sweetheart, it was just a joke”, that makes him feel better. It was just a joke, he feels relieved and a little embarrassed that he still fails to pick up on these things sometimes.

A Mad Rant About Chase Davenport: A DisneyXD Character That Hasn’t Been On Air Since 2016

If you opened this post you know who he is. You know what Lab Rats is. You know why I’m here and you’re in this shit with me.

I am going to set up one quick thing, though. Disney has Unofficial Rules for how their sitcom casts look and Lab Rats was no exception to those rules. This means Chase’s actor doesn’t exactly represent what we are Told about Chase and his appearance/age. For this analysis we’re not going to look at the screen for what Chase looks like, we’re going to look at the script. The beloved leo-dooley-lab-rats did some looking and calculated that at episode one of Lab Rats, Chase is either 14 or 15. Every character in the show calls Chase small, a runt, wimpy, etc, and it’s worth noting that he’s also the youngest of his siblings. So when I talk about Chase, his self perception, his deal with masculinity, I ask you to not picture Billy Unger but instead imagine a skinny 14/15 year old boy. A little gamer rat of a kid. Cool that’s it let’s go.

Chase’s primary bionic ability is extreme intelligence, from day one of life this kid has had a super computer built into his brain. This extreme intelligence is why he’s granted the position of Team Leader despite being the youngest and smallest. This enhanced intelligence Especially stands out next to Adam, who iirc had his intelligence artificially knocked down by his bionic chip in order to balance out being super strong. So Chase spends the first 14/15 years of his life locked in a basement with nobody but his siblings, Eddie The Wall Menace, and Donald Davenport. Davenport isn’t exactly mature or wise or a good role model or at all suited to raise three children and yet he’s the only caretaker Chase had growing up. Davenport’s emphasis on the importance of intellect above all else, his focus on Chase’s intelligence, his jibes at Adam’s intelligence, and his misogyny (which isn’t very intense but definitely Exists) would and definitely did effect Chase. This isn’t me blaming Davenport for everything or saying Chase is beyond blame, I just think it’s important to recognize that Chase’s developmental years were spent in Donald Davenport’s gamer cave and the only people he ever spoke to were his siblings and a robot that hated him. Speaking of siblings, Bree and Adam mock Chase for being small all the time. Like at least two jokes per episode levels of all the time. Davenport makes the jokes a little less iirc but he definitely still makes them and god knows Eddie makes them.

And that’s his life for 14 years.

Shock And Awe Chase is actually kind of an asshole in Lab Rats. He’s controlling, he’s got an insane superiority complex, and he demeans and sabotages anyone that he considers competition. Oh my god it’s almost like this kid was raised being called Team Leader and getting bullied by that team for being small and told his only value was his intelligence which isn’t even technically his own intelligence it’s a super computer welded onto his brain oh my god who could’ve imagined he wouldn’t turn out so great woooow. He’s the smartest man alive and he’s got the need to prove it because that’s what matters, right? It doesn’t matter that his big brother throws him across their room and his sister laughs, because Chase is the smartest boy ever. The robot that watches them from the walls calls him weak and a girl but it’s fine he’ll win in the end because he’s Smart. He’s also got that same low level Disney Sitcom misogyny that all the 2000’s and early-to-mid 2010’s Disney shows have. The beloved hairasuntouchedaspartoftheamazon once said:

“Chase has to get over his misogyny. Like it's funny his misogyny is not because he thinks women are less than men in general he just thinks everyone is stupider than him specifically and he's a man so a girl must be dumber than him. He needs to get over that, and it needs to be intellectually. He's aware any given woman on the planet could kick his ass physically. He needs to learn that computer brains can only go so far.”

And that last sentence is what a better show would’ve fixated on for giving Chase an arc and making him grow as a person. He’s put his entire value on his STEM smarts because he’s not only been taught that he’s terrible at every other skill or type of intelligence, he’s also been taught that those other skills and intelligences are unimportant and worthless anyway. He’s barely a teenager and he grew up in a weird as fuck, closed off environment so ideally as he grows up and away from that place he’ll also grow as a person.

Sadly Lab Rats was a Disney channel show so that never happened.

Chase’s flaws are openly discussed but only ever as a joke. There’s never any deep-dive into why the fuck he’s such a fucked up little man or any attempts to grow. It’s just, “Here’s Chase. Freaky little man. Girly. Has nearly killed people when trying to prove to himself and others that he’s worth something. Weird, right? Wimpy. Anyway -” like Bruh.

For FOUR SEASONS Chase NEVER evolves as a character. like yeah disney sitcoms rarely have character growth but Lab Rats had an actual canonical timeline of events with Supervillains and Plot Developments and CGI, they claimed to be Different from the rest of the disney linup AND YET THE CHARACTERS REMAIN STATIC. Hell when his character gets carried over to the mighty med crossover series (Lab Rats: Elite Force) and he has to deal with Superheroes (the embodiment of “computer brains can’t beat or explain everything”) his mental state never changes. Chase should’ve had breakdowns on bathroom floors. He should’ve gotten his shit wrecked, and his old bones broken so that they could heal into a healthier shape. He should’ve gotten a friend other than his siblings that wouldn’t betray him, that would support him but still call him out for being an asshole, that could show him there’s more to life than calculations. Give him reason to grow and then let him grow.

but chase hasn’t been on the air since 2016 and disney did him dirty when he was on air anyways so fml guess i’ll spend the rest of my days imagining the wacky adventures of chase and his wizard bestie (who is, crucially, a girl that doesn’t excel in computer smarts but is still an intellectual equal) who wingman for each other (badly, but they try)

*At a speed dating event*

Grian: Oh wow, people are really shallow.

Grian: *Checks his pulse* Sorry, not yet.

Ellen: Good, I'm not fucking a ghost again.

Grian: When you said 'Magic in Bed', I wasn't expecting this...

Ellen: *pulls out card from deck* Now, was this your card?

Grian: Holy moly-

Grian: Are you trying to seduce me?

Sam: Well, yuki and I finally did it!

The rest of the squad: *gasps, shocked expressions, etc.*

Sam: That's right... We kissed!

*Grian is crying after a breakup*

Ellen: There there, Grian.

Grian, still crying: Thanks, but how did you get into my room?

LAN XICHEN AND JIANG CHENG:

JC stans want Jiang Cheng to end up with Lan Xichen because he is the First Jade of Lan, while Lan Wangji, who is Wei Wuxian’s husband, is only Second. For once in his miserable life, Jiang Cheng will get the better end of the deal than Wei Wuxian, right? But the thing is, as far as the narrative goes, nobody can beat Hanguang-jun other than Wei Wuxian- his own brother included. We are repeatedly given evidence that Lan Wangji is stronger than Lan Xichen, is more of an expert at the guqin than Lan Xichen, is more skilled in Clan Techniques than Lan Xichen, is more righteous than Lan Xichen, etc. etc. Nobody but Lan Wangji could have survived the 33 whip lashes, fought 33 well-trained Elders while also protecting his dying beloved, undertaken dangerous night hunts in desolate areas with no expectations of repayment, and end up Hanguang-jun. When one hears of the name ‘Lan’, one thinks of Hanguang-jun, Lan Wangji, the Second Jade of Lan, and then, Lan Xichen, his brother, the First Jade. Lan Wangji did have more freedom than Lan Xichen, but it is not that much more, and thus we can attribute his values and his morals as his own. Where does Xicheng come in? We know that Jiang Cheng does not care about pesky qualities such as honour or integrity, to say nothing of his homophobic tendencies, but if he were to become a “disgusting” cut-sleeve, he would not settle for anything but the best, which Lan Xichen is not. Jiang Cheng is also extremely jealous and vindicative, easy to offend and anger, and can absolutely never handle being below anyone. Lan Xichen might not be as talented as his brother, but he is still leagues better than the “Wielder Of His Own Damn Sword”, Jiang-Zhongzu. They would not mesh well together. But we know all this. Let us talk about Lan Xichen. Rulers should be good to their people and their primary strength should lie in being able to detach themselves from their personal feelings in kingdom-related matters and take a professional approach. In the book’s context, a Sect Leader should be cold and practical in the matters involving the Sect. Jiang Fengmian fails to do this with his wife, and ends up getting most of his Sect killed due to his cowardice. Lan Xichen does this with A-Yao. As Sect Leader, Lan Xichen’s warmth causes less diplomatic incidents, since he is good with pacifying and mollifying prickly Sect Heads, but he can be easily swayed by weakness, real or feigned, and such beliefs work to his disadvantage. One more thing I would like to point out is that Lan Wangji, after losing the love of his life and being whipped 33 times (with a Spiritual Weapon) for treason, only remained in seclusion long enough to heal his body. If he could function in such a painful situation, all the while caring for an orphaned child and watching his brother happily interact with the person most responsible for, why could not Lan Xichen? He wasn’t even physically impaired! Oh boo-hoo, my most trusted friend of 20 years betrayed me and killed my Sworn Brother? Yes! Yes, he did, and it was a most traumatising thing to do, but he did not do it without your own help and encouragement! It is not Lan Xichen’s fault for being taken by a Master Manipulator, of course, but it is his fault for being passive and taking the easy way out 2/3 times in order not to upset his Sworn Brothers and the rest of the elitist Cultivation World! There are metas that state that once Lan Xichen is given confirmation of ill-will and misdeeds, he does not hesitate to choose the path of righteousness and conviction, but it is the time that he takes to obtain such confirmations is what irks me. He makes no moves of his own, does not go out of his way to investigate events he himself was suspicious about until his brother encourages (read: forces by showing unignorable evidence) him to, and spends most of his time after the Siege sitting on his hands (other than rebuilding his Sect, I will give him that) and entertaining A-Yao! *Sigh* This is quite a cruel take on him, and if we view him through the same lens we do

our favourite characters many of his faults will fizzle out quickly, but I just think he should not be let off as scott-free as he currently is being let. If I have misunderstood something, or mentioned anything wrong, please do not hesitate to correct me! It will help with my understanding of his character and help me write better fics.

I try not to say much about LXC and maintain a neutral POV on him because he is, from what I read in the novel, a good character. Not perfect and certainly not as wise as he's often made out to be, but good. Honestly, to me he comes across as someone who is somewhat naive, unaware of his own prejudices, but willing to pursue the truth when prompted. He also seems to be a bit stubborn and is very confident in his own judgment. I believe all of that can be attributed to the fact that he's a Sect Heir and a Sect Leader later. He needs to have that solid belief in his judgment to lead.

To me, LWJ and LXC present interesting parallels. Both loved (platonic in LXC's case, love is love) people from lower social classes, both were confronted with somewhat unsavory characteristics. The parallels are very striking, tbh.

LWJ loved a morally strong man - LXC loved a morally weak one.

LWJ's love for WWX enlightened him - LXC's love for JGY blinded him.

LWJ took WWX to task on every mistake - LXC covered up or made excuses for JGY's red flags.

WWX's taught LWJ to challenge and question everything - JGY taught LXC to trust blindly and accept excuses.

LWJ learned to fight, even if it meant disrupting peace - LXC learned to look the other way in order to maintain peace.

It wasn't until LXC was pushed by LWJ and WWX that he took action but he still took action. Arguably, it would've been just as painful for LXC to suspect JGY as it would've been LWJ to suspect WWX. When you love someone and their character sinks to the gutter, the hurt is immeasurable. It is nearly the worst betrayal you can face. I don't blame LXC for wanting to avoid it.

Also, LXC had a lot of reasons to act the way he did. As readers, we have the benefit of hindsight but when people are confronted with difficult situations and insufficient information, they act differently. So yeah, it is a bit dissatisfying that he doesn't get called out for some of this foolishness, but honestly, it is a minor thing.

As for LXC and JC, I agree. It is definitely a way to one-up WWX with the 'better' Lan. We don't really know how skilled LXC is and how he can stand against LWJ or WWX. I'm rather certain he's stronger than JC at any rate. JGY was able to fight and defeat JC but he had to trick both LXC and LWJ into sealing their powers. His cultivation is strong. He's just not as sharp and intelligent as LWJ and WWX are but they're exceptional.
